Episode Date: November 20, 2019

Before we get started I need Lainey to help me wrap my mind around Pete Davidson and Kaia Gerber. Big dick, no dick...I. JUST. DON'T. GET. IT. If you understand the appeal please explain it ...no me.  After that, then we move on to your drama. Our first letter writer is all caught up in a long-distance love and doesn't know what to do because wait for it....her girlfriend already has a fiancee. Complicated much? Lainey and I are divided on this so please feel free to tell me I'm right. Then, what to do when you want to make a change to your appearance but your friends are against it? Tell them to eat a dick and do it anyway or listen to them? Finally, we end on some mother-in-law drama. We dish out advice on how to handle a MIL who can't stop gift giving garbage you don't need.  We hope you enjoy the show and now that we are back I need you to start sending me all your DRAMA! So keep your advice questions coming my way at sasha@laineygossip.com.  We also love hearing from you to be sure to send us feedback on twitter at @sasha_tong and @laineygossip and Instagram at @lostandfoundapothecary and @laineygossip. Starting point is 00:00:00 How can I remain confident in my decision and not cave to the peer pressure of trying to stay young looking? Going gray gracefully, I hope. Okay, Grace. Remember, does this not take you back to your birthday last month where Duanna and I were like talking about gray hairs and you go, oh, I don't have any grays. And we literally wanted to fucking throw hot water in your face. You've got social dialed in. Search is doing its thing. So why do your marketing results look the same as six months ago that's because you're fishing in the same pond as everyone else podcast listeners are a different audience entirely more engaged harder to reach through traditional channels and ready to act when someone they trust makes a recommendation
Starting point is 00:00:44 we're a cast and we put them right in front of you browse thousands of the world's leading podcasts book host reads or run your own ads and track every conversion in real time same skills you already have brand new results. Acast, acast.com slash advertise. Hi, welcome to What's Your Drama? I'm Lainey. I'm Sasha. And this is a podcast about your drama
Starting point is 00:01:17 and our judgment of it. We're really good at it, right? We're really good at telling you what you're doing wrong. Or right. Or right. But mostly wrong. Okay. But before we start, you are, like, you have, like, there's a big mystery. Like, there's a question mark coming out of your head right now. I just can't find the words about how Pete Davidson and now Kyle Gerber. I am in shock and awe. Like, I know we used to talk about big dick energy with him, but that was like a year ago he is still riding that fucking energy all the way into kaya gerber right okay so it
Starting point is 00:01:58 blows my mind in the last 12 months ariana grande um kate beckinsale uh-huh i like the diversity listen age diversity yeah so um so ariana grande kate beckinsale margaret qualley now kaya gerber All brunettes. All brunettes. He has a type. He has a type. But, like, a really great romantic resume. Like, wow.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Well, I guess I was thinking Kyger Burr's young, but he's actually fairly young. He's actually, isn't he like 25? He's 25. Yeah. And to me, he's actually like the Gwyneth Paltrow of, like, equivalent. You know, okay. Let me, in what way is he Gwyneth Paltrow? Let's talk about Gwyneth Paltrow's romantic history.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Yeah. Okay? So the first boyfriend we knew her with was Brad Pitt. Yeah. At his peak. Like, Brad Pitt, right? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Not Brad Pitt now, but Brad Pitt 90s. Yes. Okay. After Brad Pitt, it was Ben Affleck. At the beginning, Good Will Hunting, Ben Affleck. Yeah. She gets them at the top. You're right.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Right? Yes. Then after Ben Affleck, it's Chris Martin. Like Coldplay, second album, basically at the height of their artistry. Yeah, but he's only bookended like that, like Gwyneth. He had Ariana Grande and Kaya Gerber. The two in the middle are pretty much like, hmm? Question mark.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Mara Qualley is… She's not it. She is it. Like they're calling her one of the it girls. She was great in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I guess you're right. Thank you. Fine, fine, fine.
Starting point is 00:03:32 And Kate Beckinsale is… The mystery meat is Kate Beckinsale. She came out of nowhere. You have to admit that. Well, I don't know how they met, but Kate Beckinsale is super cool on Instagram, obviously a smoke show, and is like, is having a career resurgence right now. Listen, the problem I have here is not the women he's picking. They're all fucking A++.
Starting point is 00:03:51 It's, I'm not sure what's going on with Pete Davidson. Listen, I'm sure he's a nice guy. I get that he has like a blossoming career. He's pretty shit on fucking SNL. so in terms of being like attracted to his um uh like ballerness is that even a word he's not super like he's not like so talented that you're like oh my god i have to be with this talent yes but what you mean is when you have like ariana kate and you're taking off all these women then everybody else sorry what yes oh yes it wants to ask it doesn't he have a big ass interject with a penis
Starting point is 00:04:31 comment of course he does does he have we don't know well we ariana said that it was like nine inches but ariana is two feet tall anything to her would be big right so this is the we're not getting it from like no this is no this is not a smurf this yes well she is this is the same as you you think everybody who's like super tall but she doesn't have another ruler like she doesn't measure inches differently but listen she didn't go and grab a ruler and measure his dick and say It's very large. She looked at it and was like, oh, it looks bigger than my hand probably because her hand is tiny, much like everything you think is very big when it's not.
Starting point is 00:05:11 I think I have like a very good size perspective. Oh, all right. Yassik now is like having to be on board with that too, right? You just dug your own hole there, Yassik. Go on. Anyway, no, isn't it one of those things where if somebody suddenly is being wanted by everybody else, then that increases their stock value? Yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I just didn't know that people… I guess maybe it's just the whole bad boy. He's like Hollywood's bad boy. Maybe that's why people are interested. I actually… But Kaya Gerber… I just… I think she's, I guess, because of her…
Starting point is 00:05:53 You saw them kissing and now you have to legitimately confront this. Yes. I kept on being like, oh, they're just friends. They must just be friends. Anyway, it's sad for me because I like Kyra Gerber. I wouldn't want her to be with him. I'm amazed at like he – here's another comparison. He loves love.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Like he's like J-Lo. He falls in love constantly. That's true too. Right? Yeah. Which is kind of sweet, I think. Okay. How come I'm being the fucking –
Starting point is 00:06:22 I don't know the romance – I don't know how you're being the romantic in this, but we'll let you have this. Let's get to the drama. Okay. Okay. So first question. Hi, Sasha and Lainey. I would like to have your opinion or advice on things going on in my life right now.
Starting point is 00:06:37 I'm a 22-year-old interior designer living in Montreal, just moved into my first condo. So to many people, it seems like I have everything figured out. But on the side of relationships, I've always had trouble in that sector of my life, including family, friends, and romance. I had one serious, real relationship that lasted almost three years. This was also my first relationship. Fast forward to now, I traveled to Jamaica for a week, and the past two years, where I met my girlfriend, the first year I was hooking up with one of the guys she worked
Starting point is 00:07:09 with at the resort. What? Yeah, keep it going. Okay. It'll make sense. The first year I was hooking up with one of the guys she worked with at the resort, and I thought she was hot, but I've never looked at women past just a girl crush and like, yeah, I'd fuck her or I'd fuck Rihanna.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Long story short, I met up with her this year and we hit it off right away. From the second I saw her again, we spent a week in paradise. I fell for her on the first day, told her I loved her by the end of the week. The thing I left out… She's basically Pete Davidson. The thing I left out is that she's engaged. She's been engaged for a couple of years and the relationship hasn't been working out.
Starting point is 00:07:43 She doesn't feel she can be herself around her, but from what I can tell, she stays for comfort and she loves her. I'm sure since they've been together for a few years and that doesn't just go away. She finally really opened up about it recently and she said she stayed for security and she's worried that I'll leave her for a man and change my mind someday since she's the only woman I've been with. Long distance isn't always easy, but it has been workable. The worst part about her is the trust in my mind, which I do trust her with anyone else
Starting point is 00:08:12 except for her fiance. She moved two hours away to switch jobs and get a new start, but she still goes back once a week or every couple of weeks. I'm in love with her like I never have been and I've never felt about any other man in my life. I know people think I'm crazy for falling in love with someone across the world, but I know there are ways to work that part out in time. So, questions now.
Starting point is 00:08:34 How long do I wait for her engagement to end? Is it fair for me to ask that anyway because what if this doesn't work out? I'm not an easy person. I'm a cold bitch to most except for the people I love. and romance wise, I don't fall in love or feel good with someone often. It's rare. I can hardly hug my family and tell them I love them. But with us, I believe she's my soulmate. I went down to visit for the long weekend to spend a couple of days with her and I fell all in love all over again. Even if we argue or disagree about things, I know she loves me and misses me all the time
Starting point is 00:09:07 because she tells me so I feel it. She's made me the happiest and most frustrated I've ever been. Good one. Any advice, insight, or opinion on what I should do for her to be able to make a decision or step towards something, figuring out her relationship or following what she says is the woman she's been waiting for all these years. One of the first things she said to me is why she hadn't found me sooner before she got into this whole situation. Thanks for anything you could give me. Sorry for the terrible grammar and long message. Okay, R. That's R. All right. So R is in love with a woman from Jamaica who's engaged to a man. No, engaged to a woman.
Starting point is 00:09:47 No, because there was only one E on fiancé. Or is that a typo? I think that's a typo. Okay. No, because that's why she's skeptical of R because she's like, R's never been in love with a woman before. Okay, got it. So her girlfriend is engaged to another woman.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Okay. So. I mean. Wow, this is a mess. This is. This is a mess. Yeah. Um, where do you start? I mean, I am going to just dive on in and be a buzzkill. I, none of this sounds good. Um, you know, not only are you embarking on a long distance
Starting point is 00:10:26 relationship, Montreal and Jamaica are not close. Um, you are starting a relationship with a woman who is in a committed relationship. And on top of that, then I just, I just like look at my little crystal ball and think, oh, you guys are going to set yourself up for some disaster because already there's ticklings of trust issues. And if they do end up working out, if R and her girlfriend, you know, start something, then both sides are going to wonder, like, is someone else seeing someone else? Like, especially for R, the distance will make it so crazy that she might think that her girlfriend is still with her ex-fiance.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Like, it's just a garbled mess. And it just seems you're falling in love after a week. It feels very young, puppy love. And I just think danger, danger, danger, danger, danger. This is not going to work out well. Well, I think danger is… Okay, fine. I rewind on the danger.
Starting point is 00:11:28 I'm more like red flag, red flag, red flag. I mean, I love this drama. And I think this is exactly the kind of drama you should be having when you're 22 years old. And you've only had one serious relationship. and clearly you're figuring out your sexuality and this is exciting. Yes. It's really exciting to have met someone who has never made you feel or who you've like met someone who makes you feel like you've never felt like before.
Starting point is 00:11:53 And so I'm sorry for being entertained by this. Oh, I'm entertained by it. Thank you. This is what fucking makes our podcast tick. But this is precisely the kind of drama that you should be experiencing and working out and going through in this time of your life. That said, you're in it, right? So you think that this is like it.
Starting point is 00:12:18 And I get that. It's intense. But your girlfriend is with someone that she's been engaged to for a while. so even if this engagement is broken off she might be like oh i've been attached to someone for so long and engaged like why would i jump into something serious right away yeah now it's my turn to go have some drama and fun maybe i'm gonna go on a trip to montreal and find myself another engaged woman the timing are just isn't great um the other thing is that um and you're probably thinking this too is if r's girlfriend is so in love with her and is so like where have you been
Starting point is 00:13:08 all my life i you complete me then why the fuck hasn't she ditched the fucking fiance yet yeah That's your answer. How in love, how real is this if your girlfriend hasn't like broken up with her fiance? Yep. That is logic and math and super and facts. And facts. Yeah. So that said, maybe you should just take a step back and enjoy this.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Like you're super into this person. once in a while you're going to go to Jamaica fun times in Jamaica meet up with your girlfriend do the thing and then come home
Starting point is 00:13:51 I do not subscribe to this advice what and what and like stop looking for a future yeah but she that's like
Starting point is 00:13:59 asking some her mind's already in the future no my advice is go back to Jamaica find yourself another woman
Starting point is 00:14:06 and start it that way this until until you're I can't believe we're She's in love. She's still calling her her girlfriend. I know.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Exactly. Nothing we are going to say is going to cut off that love, especially when the girlfriend's texting and calling and being like, I love you so much. I miss you so much. I guess this is just a, I told you so in a few months then. Yeah. Yeah. You're fucked.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Right? Yeah. Yeah. You played yourself. Yeah. So either listen to us and maybe just like evaluate what's really going on. Because I'm saying go back there and have your fun. Or listen to me.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Listen to me because I don't think if you want to protect your heart and like really just your sanity for a little bit, I would cut things off with your girlfriend who has a fiance. The heart is gone. So. Yes, but you can use some logic in this and be like, oh, OK, I'm like knee deep into this, but maybe I should like crawl the fuck out of it because it's not going to end well. Can we just but can we get there?
Starting point is 00:15:03 How is this not going? This is not going to end well. And I feel like the way that Aura is talking, there's no turning back. We're just heading down and we're going to let it explode. Just brace for a crash. Okay. Then that's fair for right now. Brace yourself for a crash because the fiance is going to find out your girlfriend is going
Starting point is 00:15:20 to be in like a fucked up place of feeling guilty and being torn. And we'll run back to the fiance. And it's going to be messy. You are headed for like some even more drama. Yeah. So right back when that drama comes back. There you go. Part two.
Starting point is 00:15:35 There's, there's really, to me, you're asking us for advice. What we've done is just analyzed your situation and told you basically what you already know. But I don't know that there is a solution because you're in too deep. Like, seriously, the way R is sounding, is she really going to be like, yes, Lainey and Sasha are right. I am not going to do this anymore. Well, that's the hope. That's all I can hope for.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Otherwise, we look forward to part two of Disaster Zone. That would be a show that would be greenlit because no one would believe it or watch it. Okay, fine. Good luck. Sorry we were so blunt with what your situation is, but take it from these two old hags. We've seen it happen and this is what's happening. But at 22, your heart… It's a rite of passage.
Starting point is 00:16:21 It's a fresh muscle. Totally. It'll bounce back. An elastic heart. Totally. All right, next. Quick question. When was the last time a display ad changed your mind?
Starting point is 00:16:34 Now think about the last time a friend told you about something they loved. Different feeling, right? That's how podcast advertising works. I've decided that gray silver white hair is pretty damn cute and that I'm going to stop dying my hair. As it stands now, I don't have a ton of grays, but there are a few patches.
Starting point is 00:17:42 I'm not saying I'll never dye it again, but I actually hope I don't. This is a pretty radical change for someone that has been religiously coloring their hair for most of her life. Here's my question. I've been telling a few friends about my decision and they are very split. The hair dyers are horrified and those that have never died are cheering me on. I don't want people to think I'm letting myself go, but there's still so much stigma around grays and aging.
Starting point is 00:18:06 So what are your thoughts? How can I remain confident in my decision and not cave to the peer pressure of trying to stay young looking? Going gray gracefully, I hope. Okay, Grace. Remember, does this not take you back to your birthday last month where Duanna and I were talking about gray hairs and you go, oh, I don't have any grays. and we literally wanted to fucking throw hot water in your face.
Starting point is 00:18:29 We're not talking about me. I know, but I just wanted to put that out there that we hate you. But listen, I'm going gray and I can't – and this was why our – Okay, Yessic. Thanks for inspecting. Yessic is microscopically – Listen, I dye my fucking hair so you're not going to see that. But this is what Duanne and I were telling you is like, oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Like, is this a time that we like embrace going gray potentially? And then she had a mutual friend who was doing that with actually my hairstylist and went gray and looked fucking amazing. Yeah. So listen, I've been thinking about it. I will not do it. It's each, hey, each person to their own, right? And some people have good gray hair.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Yes. And some people have good texture for gray hair. I have wiry Asian hair. Will not work. It will look like pubic hair. I look over to your lovely husband, Jacek. He's got a good salt and pepper. He's got good gray hair.
Starting point is 00:19:27 He can do that shit. Grace, this is Grace's decision. Grace, I support your decision. Do your grayness. Go for it. Yeah. Fuck whoever. Find a really good hairstylist.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Yes. Find a good hairstylist, though. That is the advice. Yeah. Right? Like, you want to know how to step into this decision confidently and not waver, despite I, some people who are horrified, the people who are horrified, like, I think it's obviously really shitty for them to be like, God, no.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Yeah. Why? Yeah. Some people don't want to show they're great. That's fair too. Right? You and I don't want to show any great. Shut up.
Starting point is 00:20:06 You don't have any. That's why. Okay. But I don't want to. And that, I don't think anybody should judge you for that and call you like a vapid superficial bitch or whatever. And I'm not going to, we are not going to judge Grace for wanting to go gray gracefully. But yeah, definitely find a really kick-ass stylist.
Starting point is 00:20:27 And there is something really liberating about it. And this, you know, I've talked about this before fucking at length is when I stopped wearing makeup, it was like a real fucking mind fuck for me because like, listen, I don't wear a lot of makeup anyway and I never did in the past. But when you can look at yourself in the mirror and be like, meh, this is what I look like. Like, this is me. It is at first a bit jarring and then it becomes super empowering because obviously we're bombarded by people being like, do your lips, do your lips, do your hair, do your tits, do your
Starting point is 00:20:58 fucking everything. And that is becoming normalized when really what should become normalized is being able to wake up and be like, hey, this is me. I accept me. I like me. Like that is, that is true beauty when you can be empowered by your own beauty. So that's why I'm like, listen, it's not for everybody. I'm not saying everyone has to do that, but like, that's the point that Grace wants to
Starting point is 00:21:19 get to. That's what she's learned from the passing of her, of her friend, um, is to like, that's important to her is to be like, who am I? Do I like me? This is important. So fuck all the naysayers, try going gray. And I think like, yeah, as you said, if you don't want to do it forever, you can just fucking dye your hair again.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Get a stylist though. for sure, as you said. A must. And here's how. Like in your daily life, go and observe the people who are super great and super amazing at it and just walk up to them and be like, can you recommend me to your stylist? Do that. People appreciate that. Yes. I mean, it's not, I know it's scary to walk up to a stranger and be like, hi, what's your hair style? But when you're complimenting them and you're like, you look amazing. Yeah. Your hair is amazing. Can And you just tell me who your stylist is, you know, without being like, hey, gray, you're so old.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Totally. But that's the best way to do it. Like look for your examples of how you how you want to gray and go up to those people and be like, hey, what's happening? Yeah. Because for the most part, everyone who's going gray still goes to see a hairstylist, right? To like get that perfect shade or like whatever, have it all like layered throughout your hair,
Starting point is 00:22:36 the highlights because you can add more gray yeah so that you're not just having these weird patches and like someone when I actually started contemplating like do I sorry when I actually started to contemplate like do I want to go gray I saw fucking Kristen Crook anybody who remembers Kristen Crook from yeah what super what is it what was the show she was Smallville Smallville yeah um like honestly one of the most gorgeous human beings I've ever seen so beautiful fucking planet earth I can't handle it um and she started to let her grays go all around her face and I was like, oh, do I do that too? Like, it seems like it's becoming a bit of a thing right now. It's a bit of a movement that women are starting to embrace their grays. So like I say, be on the
Starting point is 00:23:15 crest of that wave. Listen, you mentioned normalization. That would be great if that was normalized and if it would be also normalized for people who don't want to go gray, that's okay too. As you said about like how we all feel good and what beauty means to every person. Listen, you're talking to somebody who got CoolSculpting. Right. So I'm not waking up in the morning being like, you're natural. Like, yeah, I just went and got some fat frozen in my stomach. I want to talk about that. Okay. But we'll save that. I have said so many times on this podcast, one day I will go for the facelift. I will go for the breast reduction. You're going for a full meal deal. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:23:59 But it's not like I hate myself. These are just things that I want to do for me. Yeah, yeah. I want to support that. I have other feelings about that. To each their own. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:24:09 Right? Well, also, I mean, I think that clearly Grace has thought this through. You know, the passing of one of your really good friends, which, you know, obviously that must have been a life-changing, literally, experience. clearly and, you know, we're so sorry that this has happened and what you've done is internalized it and you've, you've, you've made changes in your own life and that's, yeah, that's, it had an impact, obviously. And so, for you, this is not a decision you've taken lightly.
Starting point is 00:24:42 You've thought about it, you've mulled it over, it has, it's, it's not like a spontaneous wake up one day and I'm going to do this. And I think that that's the key here with whatever we choose to do with, like, how we define our own beauty is that you sit with it and you sit with it, like, personally. It's a very personal decision. And I think that only you know what's right for what will make you feel good about you. Sure. So go gray.
Starting point is 00:25:17 Get a stylist. Send us a picture. please send me a picture because I feel like Duanna and I are so close to maybe pretending to try it
Starting point is 00:25:25 and I'll let you know when I decide to and have one gray hair no I'm not talking about my gray I was like I'll let you know when I decide to like
Starting point is 00:25:35 I don't know get my lips done or something no that's what I was just talking to Lara about our friend she was like hey
Starting point is 00:25:40 like so everyone gets their lips done now I'm like yeah they do I haven't got my lips done I don't my lips are not
Starting point is 00:25:47 one of the things that oh they're perfect yeah Great. No, no. That's what you're trying to say. No, my lips haven't bothered me. She has no gray hair and her lips are perfect.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Everyone's okay. Cool? The other day I was doing a segment on the social because one of my things is my eyelashes. I have none. So apparently you can do castor oil on your eyelashes. I do castor oil. I put castor oil. You have six eyelashes.
Starting point is 00:26:07 Thanks, Yasmin. I have seven eyelashes on the top and no bottom eyelashes. Have we not been friends? I tell you I put castor oil on my eyes all the time. Yes. When I plucked my eyebrows so fucking bad. I wrote a fucking lady gossip article about fucking castor oil, you cunt bag. You've written thousands.
Starting point is 00:26:22 I didn't memorize every single one. Okay, castor oil totally helps with growing your eyelashes and also your eyebrows. Like when I plucked so fucking bad, you put castor oil every night, hair growth. Okay, this is my rebuttal to that. Three years ago, or was it two? So three years ago, I had a gigantic growth form on my eye. Yes. So is castor oil going to block my eye glands?
Starting point is 00:26:52 So listen, no. But if you go and Google that on the internet, they will say yes. Sometimes people have that. That is not the case. People put castor oil on their fucking cooch and their stomach when they want to induce labor, right? It like moves the lymphatic system. So, it like moves shit around, so maybe it…
Starting point is 00:27:12 I'm just saying, don't blame me if you get a fucking sty, but if you can put it… To grow my eyelashes. But if you can put some on your eyelashes at night, it does work. The end. Thank you. Finally, our last question. All right. Help.
Starting point is 00:27:29 I've been with my husband for 11 years, married for three. I have an okay relationship with his mother. Not super close, but we get along. Her number one love language is very obviously gifts, both giving and receiving. Clearly your mother-in-law is me. Totally. Which is unfortunate because for me and my husband, we hate giving and receiving gifts. I know I sound ungrateful, but she loves giving stuff, for lack of a better word, clothes,
Starting point is 00:27:55 decor, and knickknacks that we consider clutter and never use, that we end up donating or throwing away or guiltily stashing somewhere. Lately, she's started giving us gifts for no reason, no special occasion or holidays. Just every time she knows, we'll see her. It needs to stop. And my husband agrees he needs to be the one to say it, but we really don't want to hurt her feelings. Any advice on how we should say, please stop giving us things as nicely and lovingly as
Starting point is 00:28:21 possible? She's the type that might get irrationally offended over this. Thanks and love your podcast so much, R. Okay. I feel like this could be your wheelhouse. I, um, I hate stuff too. Um, I mean, for me right away, I'm like, this is scary because obviously she doesn't have the best relationship with her mother-in-law and her mother-in-law easily gets offended as she is noted. Um, like, can you like just watch Maria Kondo or Marie Kondo with her
Starting point is 00:28:53 on Netflix and be like, oh, great. This is a great idea. We're not going to do anything anymore. please no gifts. Like, could you just somehow insert, um, the message via Marie Kondo on Netflix? Uh, sure. That's one way. If you are, if I'm too afraid, that's how I would handle the situation. Cause I would be too scared to confront that. I don't like upset mother-in-laws. Yeah, I don't either. I listen, if you feel really strongly about it, the best thing to do is just be direct. Well, props to her husband for being the one who's going to actually step up and do it. But if you feel really strongly about it, that is what you should do.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Be direct. Have your husband be direct. Talk about the fact that, you know, you feel bad that it's creating so much waste and hope that she doesn't, you know, get offended, as you say, and run away. That's your advice. But, I mean, I would just keep accepting the gifts. You would, yes. Right?
Starting point is 00:29:59 Here's why, though. Yeah. I was wondering why you were giving that advice because I knew that wouldn't be the advice that you would fucking do for yourself. You would take all the gifts. Yeah, I would take all the gifts. Not only because I, like, listen, my ma, who doesn't listen to this podcast, so I can say this quite freely. She sometimes buys the most fucked up shit for me. Like some of the clothes
Starting point is 00:30:24 she buys for him. She buys Jacek clothes? She does. And they're so weird. Oh, I want to know what one of those are. What are they? They're so bizarre. She'll buy things for him that like my dad would wear. Oh, I love your dad. Like little Peter Pan collars. Correct. so does he does Yasik have to wear them when she comes over like no
Starting point is 00:30:47 no no no so let me let me just play this out yeah my dad wears my dad is adorable as you know most adorable man
Starting point is 00:30:55 and he's a little little man he's tiny he's as you said earlier he's Ariana Grande size yes and so
Starting point is 00:31:03 he wears these cute little striped shirts with you know the white blocked cuffs and a white Peter Pan a pan collar and it's adorable love yasik is six feet tall yeah and not a little chinese man no like
Starting point is 00:31:17 the look doesn't translate he just doesn't look good he just doesn't look good in in those clothes yeah but so she'll buy some of the most fucked up shit and okay like there are times when he will say, mom, I can't wear this. Okay. But we never say stop buying for us. Yes. Because it's pleasure for her. And because one day I know that the gifts will stop coming because the person who buys
Starting point is 00:31:47 them isn't going to be there anymore. Oh, of course you had to fucking play on the heartstrings like that. Oh. Yep. Okay. And you're going to think back and you're going to wish, you're going to say, wouldn't it be nice if she walked in that door with a knick-knack? Like, so, I just don't know what, like, I hear you that there's clutter.
Starting point is 00:32:07 There's things that you can do, though. You can very discreetly give it away. Yes. You, like, wait a little bit and then make a donation. Can you ask said mother-in-law, like, thank you for these knickknacks and all these items, but, like, what we really need is food. Can you bring out, like, can you request from mother-in-law? Listen, if mother-in-law is anything like my ma, there's, yes, they'll get you what
Starting point is 00:32:35 you want. Yeah. But then, I don't know, they'll be at the outlet mall one day and they'll just see something and they don't know if, you haven't put that on your list of wants, but they're like, I think this would be so great for Yassic or like me and I'll get it. And then it happens, it comes over and it lands on your table and you're like, oh. So what you're saying is it's love except the love. Yeah, and re-gift it.
Starting point is 00:33:02 Yeah. We have re-gifted a lot of, like, weird Peter Pan shirts. Can I have one of the Peter Pan shirts? I absolutely could wear one of those Peter Pan shirts. You know what? I'm going to show you the next time one of these shirts comes over. I know what they are. They're mint.
Starting point is 00:33:15 They're mint and white striped with color-blocked fucking collars. I see your dad in them all the time. I love them. It's, it's, anyway, it's really, or, or it'll be a grandpa sweater. Even, I love grandpa sweaters. Look what I'm wearing right now. This is Corey's 95-year-old dad's sweater that I begged him for. Like gigantic sweaters.
Starting point is 00:33:36 They buy me a XXL. I love that. They think I'm like 6'7". Yes, because again, it's coming from her family who don't understand size. Like to them, he's a basketball player. Oh my God, I love this. So that's all I'm saying is I get it. If you are really, really insistent that you don't want these gifts anymore, then fine.
Starting point is 00:33:57 like just have the talk and hope that it goes well. But if you can maybe tweak your perspective a little bit and think of it as gestures of love, as you said, and do something with those gifts, like repurpose them, re-gift them, whatever. Unless like she comes over every Monday and does an inventory. Like you haven't mentioned that. She didn't mention that. No. Because they're still giving stuff away. So obviously she's not keeping tabs on everything she's getting. Yeah. So give it away. There will be people out there who need it. I mean, And there's so many charities. Yeah, I would do it that way because I don't know that there are, I understand, there are
Starting point is 00:34:33 a lot of things to fight mothers-in-law on. I'm not sure this one is it. Okay, fine. My pussy ass one, ignore what I said. Listen to Lainey, it's all love. I get it. It's only because I have a particular relationship with my ma. So I'm just coming from a different lens.
