Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi, it's Lainey. Hi, it's Sasha. And welcome to the Lainey Gossip Podcast with Sasha Answers. How are you? I'm okay. Yeah? We've had a rough day in our city. Yes.
Starting point is 00:00:15 So we don't want to listen. It's not what this is about, but we just want to send love to people and to send hopes of safety. Yeah. It's a very scary time. But we're going to do it. We'll fluff it up. We'll talk about something as mundane and useless as Meghan Markle.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Yeah. And what she'll be wearing to her wedding. Because time's a ticking. Well, I have been thinking about you because, first of all, there are some outfits that I hated last week. Oh, okay. Like the over-the-shoulder jacket was bad, bad, bad, bad. That was a bad call.
Starting point is 00:00:52 I don't know why. It seemed so useless to me. and the lines were ugly and there were some angles where the photos were taken that looked like complete shit. Yes. So she's had a little bit of,
Starting point is 00:01:05 I forget what she was wearing. Maybe they were like really big, wide leg pants or something. Something that looked super frumpy. She's trying to do that bigger silhouette thing and I just don't know if that is, it's being tailored properly to her. Well, I'm down with frumpy as you know.
Starting point is 00:01:18 I know you know, but you do it in a tailored way. Not always. Well, no. I just, I don't, I don't think she's going for the frumpy look. I just think she's going, I don't know. I hate the pants. Tell me what you think of the cut of these pants that she's so into, the hoof pants.
Starting point is 00:01:37 You know, that's what I was talking about. They cover the shoe. That's what I'm saying. What the fuck is up with these pants? Like the Victoria Beckhams and yes, that's what I'm saying. These big billowy pants. I mean, obviously it's a big trend right now and people are doing it a lot, but it takes a certain person, I think, to pull it off.
Starting point is 00:01:53 And even then, it still is a bit of a fashion flop for me. I hope it's a trend that kind of goes away. I hate it. I think it's terrible. Although I will say that this past weekend when she was in that green South portrait dress and that was good. Yeah, that was really good. And the caped Stella McCartney, I liked a lot too.
Starting point is 00:02:11 And then she was wearing something the other day that was just black and really like a silhouette hugging. Yeah. Showed the shoulders. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That was beautiful. A lot of shoulder showing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Which is not what we're normally used to seeing from these royal people who have to like cover skin because I don't know, it's, they have to be delicate and modest, which I think is bullshit. So I love that she's kind of saying, no, fuck that. It's warm. I don't want to be hot. And in an overcoat. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Like me showing my shoulders is not going to mean the death of society and that like I'm going to in five seconds show you my pussy. Right. Yeah. It doesn't go from A to pussy. You're right. Well, that is, that's actually the implication of these, I call them old-timey pearl clutchers who are like, oh, Scandal, shoulders, or a little bit of sheer, it must mean the next
Starting point is 00:03:00 step is pussy seeing. It's true. Anyway, but what is your prediction or what do you think of, like, what do you think the silhouette, let's start there, what do you think the silhouette of the wedding dress is? Because I didn't like that Ralph and Russo engagement dress in the portraits. You know that one? Oh, the black one?
Starting point is 00:03:19 with like the sheer panels it was so basic oh okay well i don't think she's gonna do that i think i don't know i think she's probably gonna go for a pretty classic silhouette like i imagine the bodice will be tight and then she's gonna have a big bottom um so you think it's gonna be classic i think it's gonna be classic princess but i think it's gonna be and for some reason i yeah i do feel like she's gonna go quite classic i feel like there's gonna be a fuck ton of lace i don't know why these are just my predictions they will probably be proven wrong but i do see like epic beautiful lace from her yeah and you see like satin and well i hope she knows i hope she if she knows what's good for her no satin because as we all know satin is like the butt of all fabrics
Starting point is 00:04:00 because everything's greasy and gross so hopefully she won't do that so lacy i feel like lace i feel like she's gonna go all lace i don't know why but i think that that would be super beautiful Yeah. I mean, the chick is so fucking… She's gorgeous. Gorgeous. It's unreal. There's no way…
Starting point is 00:04:17 I mean, of course, there's going to be people who are going to be like, that's disgusting. But, I mean, for the normal person, everyone's going to be like jaw drop when they see her. Okay. So, designer. So, I'll tell you that, you know, people were thinking… Erdem. Erdem. I wish it was Erdem.
Starting point is 00:04:31 That would have been the way to go. People are saying Erdem, maybe. some people are saying Ralph and Russo because they did the engagement portrait some people are saying
Starting point is 00:04:42 Roland Mouret then like the latest is Christopher Bailey as his last thing for Burberry I would love if it's Christopher Bailey because
Starting point is 00:04:52 then I think we're going to get something a little bit more interesting like more McQueen style as well yeah what do you think
Starting point is 00:04:59 I was hoping for Burberry I was hoping for Christopher Bailey so that is where I'm at Because I think she needs to go for something youthful, too, right? That's kind of the whole name of her game anyway, is she's trying to be, yeah, like this new kind of nouveau princess.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Not with those asshole pants. Sure. But that's very Victoria Beckham, so give her a fucking, you know, give her a slack on her slacks. Yeah. So I would hope that she would go something a little bit more mainstream, more mainstream for, like, her audience, those, like, kind of fashionista people. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:31 and someone else is getting married and we've like gotten so much yeah what are people saying about Gwyneth because I know that's where you're going
Starting point is 00:05:39 well what is happening is she fucking is this is this the road to marriage oh yeah for sure for sure
Starting point is 00:05:47 oh yeah she's like she has a fucking shower every weekend I know but okay and Monique Lulier right her mother
Starting point is 00:05:54 was carrying a bag which is and then Monique Lulier did her like bridal I think she had posted like another what do you call it wedding shower brunch situation and Maria reminded me that Gwyneth
Starting point is 00:06:07 and Monique's kids go to the same school right so there's like mommy friendship there I don't know why like just because your kid goes same school as like Monique Lillier listen Monique Lillier is gorgeous I don't know I know that's not what you would pick but like I think it's so basic yeah but Gwyneth is kind of basic when it comes to her fashion she's not like everything's beautiful on her but it's never anything super crazy this isn't like jenna lyons she's not like someone who's like mixing patterns and prints and like fucking doing shit but she she has a special relationship with valentino ford yeah she's a special relationship tom ford she's a special relationship with valentino she we know she can like wear gucci
Starting point is 00:06:47 she's a special like she's worn exclusive gucci before um when john batista valley just did her like engagement party dress. Yeah, which was very, very like beautiful but streamlined. Yes. There was nothing crazy about it. I'm not saying I was breathless about it. But you have access to… The best of the best.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Like ateliers. Yeah. So when I think of Monique Lulier, I do not think of Monique Lulier on the same level as John Bautista Valli and Gucci and Valentino. You know how some people can go either way with their first weddings? They're either like ditch all the, you know, the tradition and let me like fucking wear a pantsuit. And then there's the ones who are like, this is my first wedding.
Starting point is 00:07:28 I want to feel like a bride because I hated my first marriage. That's what I feel like Gwyneth is probably doing. If she picks Monique Lulier, that is what she's doing, right? That's what she's putting out there, which is like, I want to be a princess. Do you still love your wedding dress? Yes. I don't remember where it is, but I do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Like it was so simple. I got it made. Okay. Do you love your wedding dress? No. Your wedding dress was actually, I don't, I've seen pictures of it. It's like so the antithesis of who you are now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Like I think if you redid it, it would be a whole different ballgame. It was before I figured out what my style is and what I'm comfortable in. So I. Do you still have it? Yeah, I do. It's at my mom's. I want to put mine on. I'm just very sad that mine might not fit, which would be like really sad for me.
Starting point is 00:08:13 But I love mine. I love mine. It wasn't anything special though, as you know. It was like plain. No, you look gorgeous. and the headpiece and I looked good, but like it was fucking amazing. Yeah. Thanks. I'll take that. I take that. I'm, um, Jacek and I will have been married 17 years this November. So are you guys going to end two? So we're three years away from, so we're three years away from a 20th anniversary.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Yes. Please tell me. I want another. Oh look, Jacek's freaking out that you just said 20. And I want another wedding. I want you to have another wedding. Please. I'm only just telling. He's never heard me say this before. And he says with someone else. As if.
Starting point is 00:08:54 He's just heard me say this for the first time. So I have like essentially two years to work on him. Please. For to agree to have another wedding. He doesn't have a say. And then we can plan the wedding. Because just because I want another dress. I would do the same thing to be quite honest with you.
Starting point is 00:09:10 If I was like, I want like new pictures, a new part. And people do that all the time. Their 20th anniversary fucking go out and do. Oh my God, please do that. I, now that all of our, most of our friends are married off, like I need something to look forward to. And I love weddings. We're three years away from being married for 20 years.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Yeah. That's fucked up. It is fucked up. I'm an old ass fucking cunt. No, but you're not an old ass cunt. What happened was your old ass cunt got married very early. I did. Which is why I don't like my wedding dress.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Yeah, of course. Because like, who has taste when they're 25? Oh my God, I would have worn like something super, super trashy and sluggish if I was getting married at the same time you did. You would have been Britney. I totally would have been Britney. Okay, ready? Yes, ready.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Okay. Dear Sasha and Lainey, I hope this isn't too petty to answer, but I wanted to help a friend and don't know how to approach her. Never too petty. No, this is, you've come to the right place. Let's call her O. O and I have been in a big group of friends since high school. We are not best friends per se, but we are very close. We are both in our 30s now and we see each other at least twice a month when we get together
Starting point is 00:10:14 with all the girls. My gripe has nothing to do with O's personality or what kind of friend she is. It's just the way she dresses and sometimes the way her makeup is put on. Her clothes are often just too tight or too short and her foundation is always too dark on her. Think tan mom. It's never blended properly so that you see that harsh line from her jawline to her neck. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Again, I really do love O, but I just want to help her out so that she doesn't stand out like a sore thumb when we're all out. Just a few little adjustments would do her so good. Any advice to tackle this without offending her? Love, Penny. We always talk about this. What do you do when you have a friend who is jank style? The jank style, I feel, is harder to combat. The makeup is an easier thing to do, right? Yes. Makeup is easier. The jank style, I don't know. You might have to just live with it. You might just have to live with the jank style.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Some people just dress bad. And some people really do love wearing tight, short things, you know, like no one likes having mismatched foundation, but people like having their fucking pussy hang out with their skirts, right? Like, I mean, sure. So with me, and this is what we say, whenever we see somebody who has bad makeup, bad hair or something, don't we always say, oh, homegirl, where are your friends, right? Like, because you have to be, you have to have friends who will help you out when it
Starting point is 00:11:34 comes to that. I totally agree with you in terms of the style thing, although I have found that it's become something that is so endearing to me. Like, I embrace it in certain friends that they know that they just love dressing like 2004 Britney. Totally. And that is just, they know exactly what it is. They know that it's funny and that I would never dress like that and they own it and
Starting point is 00:12:03 that's totally fine. And in that sense, I never want them to change. I am exactly the same way. It makes me laugh. It is part of their personality. 100%. And it's something that I love about their personality. That said, that is not the same as like a fucked up foundation.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Yes. Totally. Agreed. The foundation is insulting, I think. Everything else with the clothes, as you said, like I also find that so endearing. It's such an endearing quality for people who dress. Sort of just like messed up. and it's hilarious and it's so cute. I adore it. Foundation. The foundation. Well, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:40 I was thinking when I was reading this out loud is when I was going through my health shit or whatever, for some reason, like the only thing I felt like I could control was my eyebrows. Do you remember how I grew my eyebrows so thick? Yes. Nobody told me that I should not do that anymore until my mom literally had to sit me down over Skype and was like, okay, like I know you're going through like a hard time right now but like the eyebrows aren't helping and so I was like really like but I'm like trying to do like a Cara Delevingne thing and she was like no they're like really really bad and I was like okay um okay so it took my mom I didn't agree with you I loved your thick eyebrows they were when I look at pictures they are so big I don't have them on
Starting point is 00:13:21 my phone because I don't have pictures of myself on my phone remember no I don't know erase them all. But I'll have to find a pair. I'll have to find a pair. I'll have to find a picture because they were really big. Anyway, my point being, it was like my mom, who was my friend, who had to be like, no, no more. You can't do that anymore. And so you can, I think going back to our writer, there's like kind of two options, right? If you want to, you can go the direct route, which I think maybe you and I would probably be a fan of, right? Which is you don't have to be, I don't you don't really have to beat around the bush. Just be like, you know what? Your, um, your foundation is really a little bit too dark for you. And like, you're not blending it into your,
Starting point is 00:14:03 your neck. I don't think you pull it out like right before you're going to a movie. I don't think you like when the movie starts, look over and say, Hey, I've been meaning to tell you your foundation sucks, but I think you do it on a night out where you engineer a situation where you're getting ready together and you're putting your makeup on and you're like, Oh fuck, I love this, whatever. And she starts putting her makeup on and then you just like go with your thumb and you're like, oh, can you, you need to blend this more here. Like you just, yeah, no, no, no. Are you sure this is the right color for you? Try mine. Try mine. Yeah. And then here, just try mine. See how much better this is? Yeah. Oh my God. Like, you know, I think that you do it
Starting point is 00:14:40 that way. Yeah. I agree. Then the other pussy way out of it is if you host a beauty night, because lots of people host those, you know, you go to like a department store, you go to like a little cute like beauty boutique and you get all your makeup done and then you get her makeup done professionally so that when she looks in the goddamn mirror, she's like, oh, this is what it looks like. And then you don't have to say anything and the problem will most likely be fixed that way. I mean, I'm trying to think of a way where our writer here doesn't have to spend any money, but it could be as easy as like whenever O's birthday, if maybe O's birthday is coming up, then your gift to O will be like literally a makeover.
Starting point is 00:15:19 But I don't know if I would. You don't call it a makeover. You just say, you know, let's go to a makeup experience together. Yes, together. And have a fun girl's day. Yes. And then you take her, you sit her in the chair and then the expert will be like, oh. You've been doing this?
Starting point is 00:15:40 Let's lighten this up. Yeah. But it could be as easy as, yeah, having her come over, doing your makeup together and being like, you know, you really should think about having like a lighter shade. And then though, if there, we might be looking at a situation where O insists in her eyeballs, the way she sees the dark foundation and the lines that don't match to the neck in her eye, like through her lens, she might just see it as like amazing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Yeah. And if that's the case, unfortunately you try. Yeah. You got to try. You got to try. But once you try and it doesn't take hold, then that's just the way it'll go. Yes. I agree. And don't touch the clothes. I know we touched on that, but just let her be with the short and the tight. Some people just have different eyeballs. Like they just see. Well, people are like straight up colorblind. Yeah. She could be totally foundation colorblind. No, But it's also just, like, haven't you sat beside somebody, I don't know, haven't you, like, been in a conversation with somebody and they'll look at a dress? Because you and I are always, like, looking at celebrity outfits. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:54 And you and I typically hate the same thing. Yes. And we might not love the same thing, but we do hate the same thing. Yes, true. And then, like, two doors over, somebody will be like, oh, my God, I love that outfit. And you're like, what eyeballs do you have? It's true. It's true.
Starting point is 00:17:07 I find that with the site a lot. Like, you know, after the Oscars or the Golden Globes, we'll do our best and worst or whatnot. And we'll get readers writing in being like, what are you talking about? I love that dress. And it'll be the dress that like a Sofia Vergara where I'm like, no, I'm over it. That's it. Yeah, but you're more – well, when it comes to dresses like Sofia Vergara, you also just get bored. That's why you don't like things, right?
Starting point is 00:17:32 Like Sofia Vergara, you're like, boring. I've seen it a thousand times. But it doesn't mean that the dress isn't fucking nice. Yeah, I guess, but… But it's Sofia Vergara. Exactly. Got it. Got it.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Anyway, so try, take up those suggestions. Timing is everything. Yes. And then if you can't change it, you got to learn to love it. Yeah. And if you can, send us a picture. Yes. We want to see.
Starting point is 00:17:52 We always love references. Maybe your eyeballs are wrong. Yeah. Maybe you should send a picture of me. Maybe O is amazing and maybe it's your eyeballs that are the problem. Hey, we never thought about that. Check your face. Maybe check your own face and then check O's face and send us both faces and let us see.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Okay? Agreed. All right. Hi, Sasha and Lainey. Love the podcast. Thank you. I know you guys love the topic of social media, so I have one for you. I hope it makes the cut.
Starting point is 00:18:17 I'm more like Sasha when it comes to Instagram. It's not like my life, but I do participate in it and often get sucked into the perils. The internal drama usually comes when this friend comments on any of my posts. A little background. This friend is someone from university. We had some classes together and shared and continue to share some of the same friends. We are friendly and we see each other at functions like stags, weddings, and birthdays. But outside of that, we don't hang out much on a regular basis.
Starting point is 00:18:42 She's not a wretched person, but she's just abrasive and loud. Not my cup of tea. So here's the problem that's causing me annoyance. Whenever I post something, she will always have a comment. But the comments are usually rude and or very sarcastic. Example, when I posted a trip from a recent trip to Indonesia, she wrote in the comment section, I guess you must have gotten a raise. Or when I posted a picture of a girl's night out, she'll write drunk. Wait, let me say that part again. All right. So or when I have posted a
Starting point is 00:19:08 picture of a girl's night out, she'll just write drunk. I'm like, what the fuck is going on? It's not only random that she feels the need to write comments on everything, but everyone can read her comments as well. I feel like if I block her, that's too aggressive. But if I ignore her, then she's getting away with being a bitch. So what should I do? What would you do if you were me. Confront or not confront. Thanks. Anonymous. Oh my gosh. I mean, every week we talk about social media now. Jesus Christ, people. That's so weird because if I saw a comment like that on someone else's Instagram after they got back from a trip and some asshole was like, I guess you got a raise. I would actually think badly of the person who said, I guess you got
Starting point is 00:19:45 a raise. Like, what the fuck's wrong with you? Well, speaking of petty and like, yeah, unnecessary. So I don't know that, you know, she's saying ignoring them means that they're letting them get away with it. But I don't know that it's in this case letting them get away with it because I'm pretty sure that everybody else can read the tone there. Right. But it must be kind of somewhat embarrassing in a weird way that someone is like kind of trolling your ass on all your pictures, right?
Starting point is 00:20:17 no one wants to have you know like people are posting like this happy moment and then their comment section to have somebody stand out and like calling them out who knows why might have like a bit of embarrassment for our writer do you know what I mean like yeah I like a little I don't know I'm cringing for the person but you're also like oh my god why are you ruining my fucking post like I said I get crazy ass fucking comments all the time and it I can't I don't delete them because you can delete people's comments on Instagram yeah okay I don't delete them i let them let them breathe i think it's really funny i know but not everyone's built like you right you have some thick ass skin but i i do agree with you i don't think you should be
Starting point is 00:20:58 giving oxygen to this this girl um and i don't like by confronting her like oh who cares you know you say that you don't really care about instagram so if you go and confront her then it just makes you look like you're invested in something like this so yasik's chiming in here because he loves to do that. He wants to point out that it might be different for, on my Instagram versus someone, you know, who has an Instagram account and it's mainly just people they know. And, but I think that in that case, because it's so intimate and it's even worse, it's like, you know, when it's mainly people, you know, then like clearly when you go to
Starting point is 00:21:39 Indonesia and your friends know how you got to Indonesia and someone is like, you must have gotten a raise your your circle of friends some of them i'm presuming went with you so like they're gonna be like what the fuck and on party nights when you go out with your friends and that bitch is like drunk well yeah yeah like your friends were with you like yeah so i don't know like i i just don't know what the benefit would be because then you let her know that she's bothering you which is exactly why she's leaving comments like that some people also have just like really bad humor. You know what I mean? Like, I wonder if this girl really means harm by what she's writing. I mean, listen, I'm not debating the fact that they're totally useless comments
Starting point is 00:22:25 and like slightly mean. But I wonder if she's just trying to be like, hi, notice me. Like, let's be friends. Like, I'm just leaving funny notes. You know, some people just have like bad humor taste. Yeah. And that could be it too. Either way, I just don't think you should touch it. Like I think you should just let her do her thing and eventually she'll stop when you don't like it or you just like don't talk about it. Yeah. I don't know that the – there's going to be – whatever downside there is to not responding is not going to be as low as any downside there is to you getting back at her in any way. Yeah. Like you're going to be escalating a situation. You're going to be growing an – you're going to be growing a situation that right now seems –
Starting point is 00:23:09 pretty minor. And the joke's on her too, right? As you said, like all your friends are pretty much aware that these are like super bizarre comments to be leaving, right? So everyone's kind of eye rolling her. No one's really thinking about, you know. Clearly she didn't go to Indonesia and she wasn't out the night that you guys all got drunk. So I don't know. I'm not really sure. Don't block her, but also don't respond. Yeah. Do what you're doing, which is nothing. Going to Indonesia and getting drunk with your friends. Sounds amazing. That's life. Live that. That sounds really, really good. Do you not care, really do you not care at all when people leave shitty comments on your page or on your pictures? No. I mean, listen, when I go,
Starting point is 00:23:48 for example, to your Instagram and I'm checking like what you're posting, I'm just looking at your post and your caption if there is one. And then I'm leaving. Like I'm actually not clicking on, Like, I'm not tapping on view comments. Like, I don't give a shit what other people are commenting. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, but again, I think we've established that you and I don't behave on Instagram the way that other people behave. So, I get it.
Starting point is 00:24:13 I do think that people scroll through the comments to see what other people are saying. But because they're scrolling through the comments and they have an understanding of what's shady and what's not shady, that's why in this case, I do think that people are going to look at her and be like, what's your… Yeah. Okay, bye. Yeah, totally. Anyway, good luck.
Starting point is 00:24:33 That's an invitation for all of you listening. Good luck on your future trips and your future drunken nights with your friends. Yeah, they sound way more fun. Okay, last question. So before I start, I just want to say that I'm a 25-year-old woman who is a homeowner and has a landline. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:24:49 This is – I love that this reader wrote this or this writer. Can you send this to Duanna? Because Duanna is constantly scoffing and making her like know-it-all fucking judgy face. Duanna, eat a dick because landlines are so rad. You can walk around. There's no interruption. You can like go anywhere with it and you don't get crazy brain.
Starting point is 00:25:10 There's not that fucking delay. And you're talking over each other. You can hear everything crystal clear. I love a fucking landline. Yes. So I love this person already. Okay. This has nothing to do with why I'm writing, but I wanted to grow our.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Yeah. Sorry. Great. So she was just trying, she just says that she wanted to grow our little landline club. Okay. So now that that's out of the way, here we go. I'm newly single. In order to understand this dilemma, I need to give you a little bit of the background.
Starting point is 00:25:36 My ex-boyfriend and I were together for over eight years and have been together since I was 16 and he was 17. How many years? Eight years. Okay. So you do the math while I'm reading. Both of us were practically babies and grew into adulthood together. We were together for a long time and I was ready to get married, have a family, the whole
Starting point is 00:25:52 nine yards. We had a beautiful relationship with many great loving moments. But unfortunately, many hard and terrible moments as well. His abuse of alcohol led me to ending the relationship and really broke my confidence with myself and trust with men, as he would turn into a complete man whore when drinking by flirting with women and physically touching other women behind my back and in front of me. Needless to say, I finally had the courage to realize that even though I will always
Starting point is 00:26:13 have love for him, I couldn't build a strong, trusting relationship with him anymore. Good for you. Yep. And I didn't want my life to continue that way anymore. So now here we are, single and 25, with family members calling me left, right, and center with potential guys that they want to set me up with. Not that this is awful, but what is awful is that I've really never dated ever. When you date someone as a teenager in high school, you don't go on real dates or really date at all. You hang out at a house party or in the parking lot
Starting point is 00:26:38 with a giant group of people. So needless to say, this is where I could use some advice because I don't know if I know how to date anymore. Are there rules to dating? If so, what are those rules? I have so many questions that I can't even remember them all. So if any other wise advice comes to mind please share and i will have my notepad and pen ready sincerely wishing dating was as simple as a landline um all right initial thoughts laney i don't really want to give any rules like any rules are bullshit yeah because every it doesn't it's so every time you're dating someone it's like you're dating different characteristics and different flow and all that kind of stuff. Exactly. It's too hard to lay out ground rules because there shouldn't be any.
Starting point is 00:27:25 I mean, there used to be the rule where don't fuck on the first date. Well, I fucked Jacek on our first date and then we got married. 20 years later. Yeah. We fucked on the first date after eating pasta. Like there's, that's another rule. Like don't eat pasta on the first date. No, that is not a rule. Well, there's like that rule where if you, some women believe that you shouldn't have like gassy heavy food on the first day because when you fucking open up and have sex you're gonna like he fucking we fucked and it was amazing and then we slept like we went to bed and he fucking farted all fucking night and hot box me the first night the first night we fucked look at him well you know what see and this is a perfect example that would have been like a no-fly zone
Starting point is 00:28:07 for me you would have been like this is the person i meant to be with so like you know so again that rule of don't fuck on the first date well i fucked him on the first date and like now we're married and we just talked about you me wanting a 20th anniversary wedding if we make it to our 20th anniversary so you know that rule doesn't apply to every situation would i would i have fucked other guys on the first date hell no yeah i just felt like fucking him i was like oh yeah this this might work this might work like you know he might fart but like fucking will be good That was your fucking train of thought Okay
Starting point is 00:28:43 So I don't think that Yeah, I don't want to give you any rules I actually am really excited for you Like you're going to have the opportunity now To go out there and make rules of your own And part of dating is trial and error Yes, you're going to have shitty experiences And I'm sorry for that
Starting point is 00:29:03 And you're going to have great experiences And I'm excited for you to experience those but going in with your pad and paper with a set of rules, I, I really don't, I don't want to restrict you in that way. And I would think that, um, you know, she said that they got together at 16 and 17 and now she's just kind of like coming out of the dust of that, you know, really hard relationship. But the good news is you're 25. Most 25 year olds are single too and kind of trying to make their way and have had a bunch of like shitty relationships in the past as well. So I don't think you're like this 50 year old who's like being in a, you know, trapped in a 30 year
Starting point is 00:29:37 relationship. It's like, what do I do now? Like, you know, you're fucking still hip to the fucking jive, you know, like, you know, what's going on. Hip to the fucking jive, which is how old I am. But I don't think you should like get too worried about the fact that you've been in this like really long relationship and now you don't know what you're doing. Like no one knows what the they're doing no and that's what's so interesting too like i'm uh like you're right i your advice would have been like yeah maybe fuck him on the first date and my advice would be like no don't fuck him on the first date and we're both fucking wrong because it doesn't matter until you're with the person yep um getting to know them and then i'm sure in your head too you're wondering like
Starting point is 00:30:19 when do i divulge you know that i had this like you know pretty um tumultuous relationship um and we've been asked that before a couple of times on this podcast like when do you divulge your history. And again, I would say like… You feel it out. You feel it out. Yeah. It's like you got to get the vibes off the person across the table from you and how comfortable the conversation goes. Yeah. Like I've had guys before tell me like their whole fucking life story on day one. And sometimes it's worked and sometimes it hasn't because it just depends on the fucking dude. No, I don't think there are any rules. There's common sense, but I don't see that those are rules. Like, for example, when you're going out with somebody, make sure your friends or your
Starting point is 00:31:03 family know where you are. Like, just check in. But that's common sense. I would do that now. When I'm going out with friends, I always text Jacek being like, hey, I made it to the restaurant or hey, I'm heading to the movie now. That's just common sense. That's not a rule. Another common sense thing would be like, I don't know, don't fucking give them any money. Like, Yeah. That's common sense, right? That's not a rule. No, I agree. But in terms of rules, like should it be a lunch? Should it be a dinner? Should it be breakfast? Should you fuck? Like when do you kiss? You know, whatever. I, yeah, you feel it out. And if it turns out to be that the choice you made is wrong, whether it's dinner or lunch or your outfit, then you know better next
Starting point is 00:31:45 time. And also I don't necessarily even think those things are wrong. Like if you're, I hate the expression, do you, but like, you know, if you are just doing you and you're being open and like, and the person isn't receptive to that and they're put off by it, then that's kind of their problem too. Um, I don't think you need to change and like, uh, change who you are. Like if you are a really open person and want to talk about things that are personal, then like do that because you'll eventually stumble on a person that also really loves that part of you. Um, so it's just about finding the right match and there you know there is going to be trial and error and you're going to meet a whole bunch of fucking dick munchers like shitty people who are useless
Starting point is 00:32:29 but then there's going to be someone good down the line and you're 25 fuck you you're 25 you are in an eight year relationship so go out on lots of dates have fun on lots of dates and the rules don't get caught up on the rules go and have fun and like can you touch base with us That's what I was just going to say. We're always like, please just tell us. Yeah. We would love to live vicariously through you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Touch base with us in six months. It's going to be so, so great. And if it's not great then, then maybe we'll have some rules. Yeah. But for now, nobody should start out with all these rules. Date, date, date, date, date. Before we go though, I wanted to share something with you. Oh, please.
Starting point is 00:33:06 That's kind of like a PSA. Oh. For the people. But I saw this happen on Twitter where a woman did this and turned on her like recorder and recorded the conversation and then transcribed it on Twitter. And it was like amazing. And then it kind of happened to me today. So, okay. So my cell phone goes off and it's a random number that I don't recognize. Okay. But it is like an Ottawa number, Ottawa area code. Okay. I don't pick it up because I was on my way like to pee or something. And so they left a message, but the
Starting point is 00:33:38 message was automated yes so it was like please call this number um and so I was like oh okay well I'll just call see what's up I was just in one of those moods normally I wouldn't because I I was like probably telemarketing but normally which you love by the way this is a fun fact about Lainey loves telemarketers I love I will always unfortunately I get disqualified by telemarketers on the second question like usually they want an age range and sometimes I don't meet age range. And then I'm like, oh, fuck. And then they're like, are you a member of the media? And then I'm like, yes. Anyway. No, I love, Jacek is like, that's why I shut it down. And I'm saying, no, I will, because I love a survey. Everybody knows I love a survey and a quiz. I fucking love
Starting point is 00:34:25 a survey and a quiz. And a lot of these telemarketers are like quizzing you about fucking shit. Anyway. Okay. Anyway, Jacek, watch me. Next time. Okay. Just because you said this, enthusiastic, the next time I'm going to lie about not being a member of the media and then I'm going to participate in the fucking survey. I love it. Anyway, I love fucking telemarketing. Anyway, so I decided to call back. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:45 Because I was like, but I didn't call back from my cell phone. I called back from… Back from your landline. From not my landline. Not just my landline, but my office phone, which I never do. So we work at a media company. Yes. So it comes up like Bell Media where we work.
Starting point is 00:35:00 And so I pick up… So someone picks up the phone and they're like, Canada Revenue Agency. Yes. I know where you're going with this. And then I'm like, oh, so this is it, right? Yeah. Because obviously now I know it's a scam. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:15 And so I'm like, hey, you left me a message and told me to call this number. Oh, and you played with this number. Yeah. So what is it? And they're like, oh, hi, can I just call you back from my end? And I was like, why do you need to call me back from your end? Like, I'm here right now. You left me a message.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Let's go. and he he was like um sorry i can't hear you very clearly oh wow and i was like impossible i'm calling you from a landline yeah like this is the clearest you're gonna get right um he's like so uh um i just want to call you back i'm seeing you are you calling from the media and i was like uh it doesn't matter where i'm calling from what are we going to talk about yeah what do you want to talk to me about and he's like um um and i when i was like do you do this how many people do you con every day
Starting point is 00:36:01 you did that oh good for you okay and what did he do just fucking stumble he hung up on me yeah that is intense
Starting point is 00:36:08 well I got those robocalls two days ago right because it's fucking tax time and it was that automated message which was like
Starting point is 00:36:15 we have a problem with your tax return like you owe this amount of money and in order to avoid that call this number yeah
Starting point is 00:36:24 so you just fucking caught their game which is so hardcore why the fuck would they answer They're not going to call you like that, everybody. So be careful out there. Yeah, there's a lot of like sketchy things right now.
Starting point is 00:36:36 But, you know, if you're onto it, then it's also really fun if you have the time to just fucking yell at them. Well, that's what's so beautiful about this. Lainey has no time ever for anything because you're juggling your 50,000 jobs. But I love that you took the opportunity to do this. Today I just happened to, I was in a little bit of a rush, but I just, I was in that mood. I was just pissed off at the world. I actually really enjoyed that.
Starting point is 00:37:00 And I was like, you know what? I'm going to do that. Because at the same time, let me say this. I also really love telemarketers when it's legit, when you need my market research on like soda brands or whatever. You didn't like that he was giving a bad name to telemarketers. But you don't get to steal my money. Can you imagine?
Starting point is 00:37:14 Oh, anyway, it's so sad to think that like so many old people just must be like, okay, yeah, I'll give you all of my money. But I saw a woman do this on Twitter and I was like, oh, haha, this is so funny and so awesome. And then I was like, you know what? I'm going to take that woman's example. Yeah. anyway so good luck out there that's your psa um keep sending us your questions to
