Great. I mean, I'm curious to know first about what that picture was with that girl.
Was he like, like scissoring her or were they just like, or was she just in the picture?
Hi, I'm Lainey, TV reporter, talk show host and founder of LaineyGossip.com.
And I'm Sasha, television producer and fashion reporter on LaineyGossip.com.
This is a show where we get right up in your business.
This is What's Your Drama?
you want to talk about jean shorts i do so i have two pairs of jean shorts one of which we
bought together on our romantic trip to bam which i want to say that it's almost our one year
anniversary of our it is our one year no we left in june oh we drew left in june yeah right i was
gonna like commemorate it with you please like we should commemorate those beautiful four days
that we spent together yeah well we could do it again in like a physically distanced way like we
could have our high tea again from far apart we have nothing else high tea date yes yes you treated
me like a lady that trip I loved it and you fucking duck you made you put you actually like
put out some of the best content ever you did a cinema verite on yes for some reason on my sleeping
yes I loved it was fucking so amusing anyway sorry yes you bought jean shorts that trip
I know that.
I did.
And I love those jean shorts.
I still wear them.
But…
And I have another pair, but they're the same wash.
Yeah.
And also, I think that I need more than…
Because I've been walking in my jean shorts.
So, I…
In lockdown, I've walked everywhere.
If I need to go with the dogs, I'm walking, I'm walking, I'm walking.
I'm walking to have socially distanced visits.
Not very often, but occasionally.
Walking, walking, walking.
So, obviously, I need more than two pairs of jean shorts because, you know, ass sweat.
Right?
Yes, continue.
You know, though, that I don't really wear shorts.
Right.
So this is why I, so I don't want to spend a lot of money on jean shorts.
The most, the most I want to spend is like $39.99.
Okay.
So, you know, the kind of stores where you get a $39.99.
Like a garage or a Forever 21.
How did you know?
Garage is the site I'm on.
But this is where teens live.
It's like my niece who's going into university.
in September, by the way.
So she's, well, she's still a teen.
That's where she shops, a garage.
Yeah.
So it's cheap and cheerful, but these are-
The fades aren't going to be good.
The fades aren't going to be good.
The fades are fine.
My issue is they're all like labia.
You mean they're so high that it's like-
Correct.
These are my lips.
Yeah.
Okay.
You know, I walk, as we walk around now in summertime weather,
The shortness of the shorts on the teens is my favorite thing in life.
Oh, you mean they're not jammed up.
They're just, it's so short that like everything's hanging out.
Yeah.
That's the problem.
You know this.
It's not like you've never walked around downtown Toronto.
Yes, yes, yes.
Like, yes, but that's the style.
I know, but I'm not going to be that style.
No, no.
I'm not showing my labia.
No.
Okay.
Yeah.
You know me.
I wear turtlenecks in the summer.
I do not like showing skin.
I have to show skin because it's summertime and I faint.
So do I just get them two sizes up?
Oh, that's interesting.
Can you just not shop at Garage or Forever 21?
Yeah, but then.
Because you're not going to get, you're not going to get, you're going to, they're still
going to be that length.
But I'm not fucking paying $200 for a pair of jean shorts.
The shorts that we got last year in BAMP, I bought them for like $50.
Do you remember how excited I was?
Why don't you just go look up the brand of those and just buy a couple more of them?
Because those were cheap.
I don't remember the brand of them.
I do, but I can't find them.
They don't, like, I can't find the thing.
You can't find the brand?
No.
No, I don't trust you.
I feel like I could find them.
Fine.
But also not to, you know, I am very anti-fast fashion these days and for a long time, but
I would think that you could find them at Zara.
I really could.
I think you should go Zara.
Oh, I don't like the watches at Zara.
Or H&M.
No?
No.
It's hard because they have like vintage washes and that's not the kind you like, right?
No, I like a bit.
I like, first of all, I need it to be frayed and I want a hole or two in it, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I will go on a hunt for you.
Okay.
Because now I feel.
That's exactly why I wanted to talk.
Okay.
Okay.
Mission accomplished.
Thank you.
We're done.
I'll try my best.
I'm not a shorts person.
I like am basically a never nude.
So I will try.
That was what I.
What about when you go away?
like in those days where I used to go when I used to go out of my house and travel a beach holiday
what you don't wear shorts no I have shorts I have jean shorts too they're like but they're
the ones that you probably don't like they like are like the mom jeans that have been cut to jean
shorts um so they're loose and they kind of go up your fucking ass which I know aren't your
vibe um but also I find I have I have inner thigh chafe so shorts anything in the summer is just not
good for me. Like my thighs touch. So do mine. But jean shorts, there's a particular kind of
chafe from them because they're not soft. So now I just do biker shorts. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah.
You don't want to do a biker short? I don't have a biker short. I have biker shorts. I just find
that biker shorts- Oh, I've never seen you wear them. Yeah, but I don't, biker shorts give me,
like I have a fat pussy. Okay. So you have a fat pussy in biker shorts and if you wear jean shorts,
your fucking labia falls out too. I don't know what to do for you then. It's not just the labia,
but it's like the back of the ass. You know, like it's the ass cheek. It's that part from behind
where the… The ass cleavage. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Okay. And I don't have a nice enough ass to be
able to pull that off. My ass is flat. I have a flat ass. Like if I had a bubble ass, it would
be one thing, but I have a flat ass. Anyway, flat ass, big pussy. Great. That is the title
of this podcast, for sure. Or the name of our new band that we'll have to create for this.
Flat-ass fat pussy is the best. Oh, did you say big pussy? I like flat-ass fat pussy.
That's the best. Okay. All right. Let's get into some business here. All right. Here's our first
question. Last summer, I worked with this boy named Mike, not his real name, obviously, at a
restaurant and I formed a huge crush on him. I worked as a hostess and he was a waiter. He's
one of the nicest, funniest, and hottest guys I've ever met and he treated me so well. I honestly
think he was attracted to me too, but I think we were both too hesitant to say anything because
we weren't really getting that close. At the end of last summer, we went off to our respective
colleges, which are hours away from each other. I was really hoping to get to work with him again
this summer, but coronavirus took that job away from me. I follow Mike on Instagram and we still
like each other's posts a lot. I've recently been debating sending him a flirty DM or just asking
how he's doing. But then I found out he might have a girlfriend. I saw a post of him with a girl.
I don't know if I'm being ridiculous and just need to move on or if I should just be bold,
risky and reach out to him. I genuinely feel like we would make an amazing couple. And I think it
says something that I still think about him a lot after a whole school year between us. Please let
me know if you think I should just let it go and stop living in my fantasy world or if I should go
for it. Thanks, Samantha. Okay. Love this rom-com. Yeah. Yeah. I also love that we always get like
questions like this, but they're always so riddled with pain and suffering or like some sort of
dysfunctional past. And so nice to be like, oh, this is just like a fresh new love. This is my
summer crush from 2019. And I want to know if it should be my summer love of 2020.
Great. I mean, I'm curious to know first about what that picture was with that girl. Was he like, like, scissoring her? Or were they just like, or was she just in the picture? Like, where are we on that spectrum?
Yeah. Yeah. I do think that people make assumptions on social media that are outrageous
and also very, very on point. Okay. I thought you were going to go with incorrect.
So Samantha, I want to know what your social media report card is. Are you typically off
base with your assumptions or are you like you nail it every time? Yeah. Let's go with
whether or not this is, we don't know, right? Where are, I can hear you're clicking by the way.
Oh, okay. Can you maybe not surf?
Pulling back up the email because it goes dark. Okay. Um, can, okay. Let's, let's go on the basis
that there's just a girl in the Instagram picture, right? Cause that's where we're,
that's all we have right now. We don't know if she has any good gauge of anything on social media.
I mean, I'm inclined to say, yes, of course. Like, I don't know if you should do a flirty
thing, but I would do a nice check in. I'm not putting any pressure or putting out any
vibe out there first. Yeah. Because it's his response, right? His response will be the key.
For sure. And you know what? You have the perfect excuse or a perfect entry point, which is,
hey too bad we're not working together this summer again whatever right yeah like yes keep
it casual your opening is just shit fuck coronavirus you know wish uh we could be
working again together hope you're well or that was so much fun yeah yeah exactly throw a little
like that was so much fun i was i've been thinking about like how much fun we had are you working
this summer whatever like leave it again whatever you send leave it open-ended right like give him
an opportunity to answer you back and then just gauge how it goes, this back and forth,
open up the conversation. Of course you should. Yeah. And this is the time that it's like,
because no one can see anybody, everyone's reaching out via DM more so than ever now
and trying to like hook some sort of feeling up. 100%. Like everyone's hungry for a little bit of
love right now. Yes. Now here's what I do know about social media. Samantha, around the time
that you reach out to him and send him a DM or whatever, you want to post a really hot photo of
yourself too on the feed. Yes. And let's pass it off to you, Lainey, for that because your vain
ass, thirsty ass has really good timing with that. So set the scene, the light, because you find good
light. So where is the light? Yes. How do you get the light? Find the good light. Well, I don't
actually know how to find the good light. I just know when it hits me that it's good light.
It's magic hour. That's typically a win-win around like what? 5.30 PM. Yeah. On a summer day.
Yeah. A late afternoon or mid is 5.30 late afternoon or mid afternoon?
Who knows? Mid-ish late, whatever. Between mid afternoon and late afternoon,
5, 6 o'clock, usually really good light. Get that good light, Samantha. Take a great selfie. I want
you to look hot. I want you to look fresh. I want you to look pretty. I want your freckles to be
popping. I just want you to be in the essence of all your young summer hotness. Get that up on the
feed around the time that you DM him so that he knows what he's working with here. Yeah. I love
that. Right. Fuck. This was easy. Great. I wish I had something like that right now to look forward
to. I, that's the one thing that I, like, I, I feel, well, I know we talk about missing out on
online dating and like, I, and I know it's like a shit show out there. So it's always, what,
what is that expression? The grass is always greener. Yeah. But those games are fun. Like
the posting of a of a hot a thirst trappy photo before a dm is is i think that's fun yeah and but
there is i was talking to one of our single friends the other day and it's so gnarly out there
like an extra gnarly and guys are this is a female friends and she she um dates men so from what she
has had to say is like the shit that these guys are asking for is so repugnant like like what
All they want, they're like, hey, how's it going?
Can you eat my ass?
Like right out of the gate.
Like, let's talk about you eating my ass.
Fuck off.
Eating my ass.
Yes.
Always.
It's something so gross.
It just seems like that seems to be the running theme for women and men sliding in their DMs right now.
Can you eat?
It's always, like, it's honest to God.
Hi, how are you?
Can you eat my ass?
Yes.
Are you willing to eat my ass?
And I clarified, really, like, just one after the other.
Like, there's no any, like, nice back and forth.
No, it's, hiya, how are you?
Are you down to eat my ass?
You know who I'm talking about.
I do.
Who has these.
I, well, I mean, I just, I'm still not over the time when our friend was, like, talking to some guy online.
And then he started sending her a series of progressively raunchy, like, it got raunchier and raunchier, which we loved because it was just so fucking funny.
But it was like, it went from here's me and what I look like at work to, oh, look at my
asshole.
Like, yeah, it goes dark.
And then quickly look at my cum on the shower door.
Yeah, I love that.
That picture is like literally imprinted in my brain forever and ever.
OK, but to our writer, I totally forgot her name already.
Samantha.
Samantha, keep us posted.
This sounds like fun.
OK, next question.
Hi, Sash and Lainey.
I started a new job back in September in a small 10 person firm. It's a typical office scenario
job. When I joined, I realized that aside from the managing partners, all males, there was a
main group of girls my age in their late twenties that made up the rest of the office. Having come
from a background where I worked with a lot of older people, I was excited to work with people
my age. Wrong. Oh, I was excited for you. I quickly realized that they had already formed
a five-person clique among themselves and it would be quite impenetrable. I know I can have
an odd sense of humor and be sarcastic at times, but I found it very hard to join into this group.
I really like my job and find it interesting, but feel like I'm constantly an outsider to any
inside jokes. Anything outside of the office of the managing partners makes me feel like crap,
especially during this time of COVID where I know they're likely having separate side group chats.
It's made me feel quite alone at work, especially in my line of work where we can be working 12
hour days quite easily. Some of the girls also like to suck up to the partners and make fun of
them in a teasing way. It's never really been in me to do that sort of thing. Am I missing out on
something by not doing this? Honestly, most of the time I feel like the little pranks they play
on our bosses are just not funny and quite childish and immature. This may very well be
one reason I'm not in the clique. It's like I want to be in a part of the group because I want
to feel a sense of belonging, but I also don't want to be fake and not true to myself. You can
also harshly tell me if I do need to tease the boss once in a while and play games like that.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. And please call me Leah. Okay, Leah.
Well, I think we're going to be on the same page with this one.
Yeah. Well, what's your instinct? No, you first. You first. You first.
I read. You make me read all the time.
Fuck. Okay. Well, there's a couple of things. I mean, I don't want to take it away from Leah,
But I remember when I moved to Toronto and I, like, first walked into those eTalk doors, there was a strong click going on.
And that click included our friend Amy, our friend Lara, and our friend Duanna.
Oh, they can seem intimidating at the beginning.
And they were so intimidating.
And it was impenetrable.
I fucking hated Amy so much.
She was so mean to me.
And now we're, like, so close.
But I actually hated her.
I also really disliked Duanna. I didn't like her. I thought they were like these East Coast
fucking hoes. Uh, Lara, I will say was really nice to me, but, um, it was hard. Um, but I think
what worked for me is I didn't push myself. I didn't rush any friendships and I sure as shit
didn't change my behavior in order to be part of theirs. So I think with Leah or Leah, whatever
she called herself, um, where she's like, should I start fucking making fun of my bosses to fit in?
no like you know should you start to curb your behavior so that these girls will like you
no that's high school shit you are like a fully formed adult woman who has a lot going for her
you don't need to backtrack or fucking kowtow to a group of girls right like there you go yeah
i get it though i mean i get it it can be lonely when you see all these people being friendly with
each other and having this dynamic to feel like you're not a part of it. And I think that I
understand the compulsion to change in order to feel, as she said, a sense of belonging. I get
that. I think we all get that. I do too. Yeah. Because it sucks to be on your own and feel like
you're not liked or included. Yeah. As many stories that we are telling and watching and
all the messaging that's coming about like be unique and celebrate your own uniqueness. It
doesn't change the fact that like the day-to-day, minute-to-minute existence of someone who is
unique and doesn't fit in or doesn't feel like they fit in is terribly, terribly isolating and
painful. So Leah, I get that. Yeah, I do too. But at the same time, like I think what you're
saying, Sasha, is if being friends with a group of people means that you have to camouflage a part
of yourself, then are they really your friends? Yeah. And I mean, maybe it's hard because I don't
think Leah's writing to us and being like, I want to be the sixth member. She just wants to be liked
and feel included. And I think that just might come with some time. And it took a lot of time
for me to be included in, into that initial group. Uh, when I first moved to Toronto,
I felt like a total outsider and like totally not, um, I didn't think I would ever really
become friends with them, but it just took time. And if you just start to like do your thing and
just keep on doing your thing and acting the way that you do, ideally, if they're not, if they're
actually nice people, they will come around. If they actually just continue to like cock block
you from their friendship then they're dicks yeah like most people will slowly open up will
slowly warm up i'm not uh quick to warm up to people as we nor are you we have incredible
stranger danger yeah and i don't like people like fucking with the things that i have already set in
place yeah but i see good people so i i sense leah leah that you're a good person and if you continue
being like this nice, lovely, warm human being, then eventually if they are good people, I feel
like you're going to be welcomed in. Just might take a little bit of time. It might. And I really
like what you said just now about like stranger danger, because I want to give those five people
the benefit of the doubt that maybe they're just cunty like us on the outside. Yeah. But on the
inside. Well, you're nice on the inside, not me, really. But there's also something to be said
about like, I know that for me and Sasha to say this to you might seem a little bit unfair in the
sense of, because we do have friends that we work with. We're lucky that way. But there are a lot
of people who have lived their lives perfectly fine without establishing close friendships with
people who they work with. And that's okay too. I think sometimes it has its benefits to not
weave in your personal life into your professional life and become buddy-buddy with the people you
work with. Shit can get super murky. I would almost count your blessings that you can sign
off after your 12-hour day and have zero drama. That is confirmed truth. You will never have any
work drama or like personal work drama by kind of keeping things separate.
So Leah, especially right now, of course, COVID-19 is heightening all of our sensitivities
and nerve endings and emotions.
So maybe something that wouldn't have bothered you before is bothering you now.
I certainly feel much more raw, you know, I'm more anxious, more stressed, more scared.
Everything is upsetting to me.
And one of those reasons is because I do miss my friends.
like a misuse, Ash. But you and I are lucky. You and I have seen each other more than-
We usually do. It's true.
But that we've seen any of our other friends, really. I'm over every other week. Well,
on your front porch. But I think that that is also something to take into consideration.
And it's not to say that those emotions aren't valid during a pandemic, because of course,
they are and we don't know how long it's going to last for. And I also think that you seem,
you seem like the kind of person who's just so confident in who you are, that you have an odd
sense of humor, that you can be sarcastic, that if you don't think something is funny, you don't
laugh. I mean, I love that about you and I don't even know you because you know what? I'm the kind
of person who feels that they have to laugh out of a sense of like social lubrication. You do?
Well, there have been times when I'm in a professional setting
where I've done that.
Oh, yeah, sure.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yes, I actually have done that too.
I almost like fucking want to kill myself when I do shit like that.
Well, there you go.
And Leah, you're this like, oh, God, I can't tell you how much I admire that,
that you're just like, I'm not going to laugh at that.
That wasn't very funny.
You've got to earn my ha-ha-ha.
Yeah.
And I don't ever want you to mute that or like dull it.
That's awesome.
And, like, you know, not to sound all Pollyanna, but one day people are going to be like, fucking right, that girl is so cool.
I'm going to make it my point today to make her laugh.
If I can make Leah laugh, I am the shit.
Right.
Yeah.
And that's what it is.
It's like, don't change your behavior because then, like, then what are you doing?
You've lost many, multiple ways if you do that.
Do you, Leah.
Yeah.
And good luck.
And hopefully this will be over.
Fuck.
What will be over?
This fucking bullshit.
No.
The bullshit is lasting for a very long time.
I'm sorry.
September.
September.
Absolutely not.
What planet are you fucking on that you think by September we're going to be good times?
I'm sorry, but there are countries that are like wide ass open now.
And what are those countries?
Australia.
What did those countries do before?
People are going out for dinner in Australia.
Beijing.
Yeah.
But what the fuck did they do?
Locked down.
They locked their asses down.
Fine. Let's get to one more question. Yeah. Hi, Sasha and Lainey. As of writing,
it's been roughly 65 days of staying at home isolation. Early on in isolation, a friend of
mine back home, Tracy, started making cocktails on her Instagram stories and dubbing them
Tracy's Cocktail Hour. In the first few days, she realized that she'd been wearing only crop
tops in her videos and thus it became an ongoing joke. Tracy's videos are very fun. She makes lame
jokes, adds funny captions to them. Sometimes she adds a little history about the drink and
because she works in communications, occasionally a nice visual artistic flourish, like a lovely
errant swirl or whatever. They're very charming and fun to watch with the end result being a very
professional looking cocktail, especially as her bar ingredients and tools grew over the past
several weeks. Part of my brand, Barf on Instagram, the Barf was this person. Her. Yeah. Yeah. Part of
my brand, Barf, on Instagram is how I'm really into wine. I post a lot of reviews of wines I buy
and try, and a lot of people ask me about them. I said to Tracy one day via Instagram message,
because we're not close enough friends to have each other's numbers, that we should do an IG
live together as a fun thing to do, because really, what else do we have to do on a Saturday
night? So we did. We made a cocktail together that combined our two interests. It was fun,
and we both learned something new. A week or so later, Tracy invited me to her, quote,
birthday party, which was a Zoom trivia game. She also asked people to make a baked good to
help her celebrate. But if possible, could it please be Alison Roman's birthday cake? Oh,
because that was what she was making. Was this before or after Chrissy Teigen? For fuck's sakes.
Okay. So I made the cake, which called for not only a lot of eggs, but a bunch of egg yolks,
leaving me with four egg whites because everyone is into rationing things lately. I kept them and
figured I could use them for something else. A couple of days passed and I realized that the
only realistic thing for me to make with the egg whites was a cocktail or several. I googled some
cocktail recipes that included the few types of spirits I had and thought, oh, this weak ass bar
situation is funny and I'm bored. Let's put it on my IG stories. I have a very self-deprecating
presence on Instagram, so I made the video exactly like that. I'm not fancy and therefore this isn't
because I have to measure everything out with a tablespoon.
It got some laughs, and people really enjoyed it.
The next day, I finished a workout, and while wearing a spruce bra,
I made a different cocktail for my IG stories,
because I still had tons of egg white from Tracy's birthday cake.
You know where this is going, right?
Again, self-deprecating and still sweating.
People really enjoyed it and said I was inspiring them to make cocktails.
Now, some people even sent me photos.
Another friend was inspired to start his own cocktail series.
Tracy, as it turns out, was not pleased with my making cocktails on IG.
She DM'd me several hours later after I posted the second video.
Tracy lives on the West Coast and I live on the East Coast and basically said that my
video was a bit too on the nose.
I honestly had no idea what she was talking about, but eventually I was like, oh, I didn't
do X or Y like you do.
It was more or less the sports bra that set her off coupled with my making cocktails because
even though no one has, quote, a monopoly on content, a heads up would have been nice.
She even said, you have enough serialized content, leave some for the rest of us.
I was so mad about the whole situation that I just went to bed. The next day, I messaged her
back and told her that I wasn't particularly interested in cocktails being a regular part
of my IG content, but thought I would stop if she was actually really upset about it.
She didn't tell me to stop. And in the intervening three weeks or so, I've made a couple of other
cocktails on my stories but nothing regular and now tracy isn't speaking to me i replied to her
stories and stuff but she just ignores what i say even if i have a legit question i know emotions
are running okay okay i know this is the best i i don't even know isn't this like one of the best
questions i know emotions are running high for people right now but should a 30 something be
upset with another 30-something about Instagram content that is similar but not the same? Are we
really expected to go around asking people if we can make similar content to them? Because I truly
don't care if people go around posting wine reviews or whatever content I have. Plus, because
we live in different places, our follower overlap is less than 10 people. My friends where I live
say I should just leave it, but Tracy and I share a mutual friend that's very close with both of us
and I don't want her to feel weird about it at all. This is so dumb. Any insight would be great.
Thank you. Right. And she, I hope that's not her real name. I don't know. Did that audio sound
crazy? We should, we should, we should change her name. You think? I don't know. I don't know. Did
I just, let's see. Let's see if Karen's really a Karen. So Karen is, is not Karen. I can confirm
that Karen was being funny by saying Karen. So Karen chose her pseudonym to be Karen. I'm hoping
because she's aware enough to know. I don't know. Are you aware, Karen, that you just did a really
Karen thing? Yeah. Oh, I love this. I love this so much. There's so many layers. So many layers.
okay I have to pass this one to you then because why no I'm just I'm not over Karen yet I love that
Karen chose herself to be Karen and but is Karen aware that in self-identifying as a Karen after
telling us the most Karen story you might not be as aware as you think you are how about if she is
aware I almost want like you can't live you can't be a 30 something and not know Karen I don't know
well actually you're right and on Instagram social media so yes all right Karen art all right
we love that we just get to address her as Karen the whole time though this is the best
oh my god okay where are you at going with this
well okay they're so well content the word I hate the most is so annoying to have people talk about
content and like it's my content and like this is the content i put out this is my fucking brand
content and there's a part of it that's like that shit's free for everybody to have right like
nobody gets to as karen said you don't get to say i get to do the wines or i get to do the cocktails
right however there still is an element of stay in your lane respect right like it would be like
lady gossip putting out two podcasts which you have but yours and duanna was like an alt
advice column i would be like can like i don't think that makes sense right like it's a little
too close for comfort especially with two granted they're not like super tight friends but they know
each other enough to respect each other so for me like when karen talked about doing the one sports
bra cocktails what was funny because karen was like oh god i don't there's nothing else you can
do with egg whites but make a cocktail i'm like okay there's plenty of things you can you can
fucking make yourself a fucking omelette like you're good there's lots of things you can do
with that but fine let's pretend like a cocktail or do a facial totally or throw them in the
fucking garbage but she decided to make cocktail fine but then the fact that she just kind of kept
on dropping cocktail content, I'm a little bit on Tracy's side a little bit. It's a bit stinky.
Karen? Karen. Karen, you're totally a Karen here. I agree with you, Sash, that it's, first of all,
even though they only have 10 followers in common, the fact of the matter is, is that you're both
in each other's online lives. So it doesn't matter who you know in common, you know each other.
Yeah. And I think things like this are so preventable and they're so preventable and
it's so easy. All you had to do the first time was be like, I have some egg whites left over
from a Zoom party that I was at for Tracy's birthday.
She has a great Instagram account and she makes cocktails.
So I was inspired by her to look up what I could make with egg whites.
And look, I found a cocktail.
Here's the cocktail I'm making.
But also heads up, Tracy makes great cocktails.
Right.
If you had credited Tracy, which I'm thinking you never did,
because if you did, you would have told us.
And if you drop that detail into your email, I would be on your side.
If you said every time I make a cocktail, I do a shout out and I tag Tracy, who's been doing cocktails and that she's a good follow.
I'd be right there with you.
I'd be like, well, I don't know what this fucking bitch Tracy is talking about because you like are sending followers over to her.
You're giving her shine.
You're saying that you're like inspired by her.
She's OG cocktail chick.
Exactly.
But you didn't do that, Karen.
You didn't do that, Karen, because you're a Karen.
Karen.
Right.
You didn't do that because you wanted to own and claim your own content because, sure,
it came from your head, but what would it have cost you, Karen, to at least say, normally
I do wine, but you know what?
I'm going to do a cocktail.
But hey, best cocktails are over at Tracy's.
Her videos are hilarious.
You didn't do that, Karen.
Right.
You didn't do that.
Crediting is so important.
You know, as, and I know you hate this, but I, content creators, like getting credit as
a content creator is my thing.
Like if I came up with an idea that is so special and personal to me, and then for someone
to jack it or for me to perceive that, I never want anyone to think that I'm jacking their
idea.
So you'll see on Laney Gossip, there are links everywhere.
Someone said this, this piece was great.
As this person said, I will try to credit where, even when people email me and give
me an idea, I will credit in the post thanks to a reader called Karen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So this Karen, if you want to make up with Tracy, all you need to do, it's a simple
thing.
The next time you make a cocktail, just shout out your girl Tracy.
but also I think the step before that is you say hey Trace you know what like I had to think about
this you're right you're right to be kind of a bit like pissed at me because I should have credited
you and I promise moving forward I will do that my blunder like oh no I'm just shouting you out
or just shouting you out yeah yeah um but I think that she needs to reach out to Tracy and and um
acknowledge that because that's part of it too and again Tracy doesn't own all cocktail content
but and that's not to say that you can't do it moving forward but as Lainey said like I really
think that that's the key and that's why I wanted you to take the lead on this first is because it's
true like you understand this whole realm of giving credit where credit is due like you can't
steal people's ideas or and it's hard because it's not a it's not again it's not Tracy's deal
It's not a seal, but it's a little bit too sly.
It's a tip of the hat, though.
There's nothing wrong with what we're talking about.
But the way Karen did it was not a tip of the hat.
No, no, no.
It wasn't a tip of the hat.
Nor was it.
Listen, maybe in your mind, Karen, purely, this has nothing to do with credit because
it was your idea.
Black and white, you came up with it, or at least this was genuinely and organically what
happened to you that day.
Egg whites left over.
Google, Google, make a cocktail. I think I'll put it on Instagram. Fine. I think maybe if you don't
like the word credit is that I think we should all, and all of us can be better at this, get
into the habit of building a muscle of creating more space. How about that? Yeah, I like that.
This is an alcohol space that you and Tracy share. Your wine, she's cocktails. In that space,
everybody should be fucking sucking each other's dick check out tracy tracy says check out karen
check out sasha blah blah blah this was in the end it benefits everybody everybody nobody loses
yeah but this mentality is so this mentality means that like there's only a few seats at
the table and you're not pulling up chairs pull up the fucking chair karen to take your friend tracy
i love this letter and i and i i feel bad i hate dogging on people who like give us like
you know such a thorough letter and and she know i think she's also knowing that this is a bit dumb
too but i think she thought we were going to be on our side and sometimes i feel bad that we
had to call karen a karen but karen but you signed it karen but karen also like if karen
listens to the pod then i think karen knows how we can be right i know yeah right yeah but i feel
bad now see it's because i didn't drink any alcohol i have empathy today but anyway karen
why am i think you did i think you did something a little a little sketch here's how i'm on karen's
side i'm drinking wine and not a cocktail you are i'm drinking a rose karen so there's my tip to you
