What's Your Drama - When to Instagram Block

Episode Date: March 19, 2020

Technical note before we get into things. The audio is a little less than perfect now that Lainey and I will be social distance podcasting, but we have one little tweak to make it better for next time... so don't lose your balls - we are working on it. Please see attached this high tech set up we've got going on. With that said though, there's still enough drama to go around!First up, how do you Instagram block someone who is no longer your friend? Is there a time limit to when you can do that and is there ever even a damn point? Our next letter is a doozie. Our writer wants to know how to ignore a friend after her friend abandoned a dog. I repeat ABANDONED a dog. Finally, we end on yet another friend drama. How do you stop your good friend from always talking about her work? Which leads me to ask you to vote on something. What's worse: Someone telling you about their dreams or someone telling you about all their work details? We hope you enjoy the show and keep sending me all your DRAMA, especially during social distancing! Send your advice questions my way at sasha@laineygossip.com. We also love hearing from you on Twitter at @sasha_tong and @laineygossip and Instagram at @lostandfoundapothecary and @laineygossip. And of course subscribe wherever you get your podcasts, and make sure to leave feedback and comments because it helps others find our show!  Hosted on Acast. Starting point is 00:00:00 Do we have to explain to people what this is? Yeah, we will. Okay. You just follow my lead. Oh, okay. Excuse me. Your drunk ass lead. Great.
Starting point is 00:00:11 I love that I can just tell like the minute I saw you. You have like a smile in your eyes. A twinkle of drunk. I need it. Okay. Okay. Are we ready? I'm ready.
Starting point is 00:00:21 Okay. In three, two. all right so uh the new reality is that we must be a part to save the world it is true it is true so you're actually literally so true yeah you're at your place i am sash yes i am i'm laney i am at my place yeah and we are recording this on we are doing this fucking gorilla style as you say because we're doing this on facetime but we also have a cell phone going i'm wearing two headphones i will attach the picture to the intro because this is some like tech like high tech but very low tech situation we've got
Starting point is 00:01:21 going on here. Hey, but the pod must go on. Must go on. So if we do sound, if the audio isn't perfect, just like, roll with the punches, people. We're trying our best here. Yeah. If the audio isn't perfect, excuse me momentarily for the audio while I yell at my dog.
Starting point is 00:01:36 Oh god, the dog even... Elvis! Sorry, he was trying to steal a piece of pie. Because you're making pies now, right? out of all the anxiety you're all i'm doing is baking and cooking and i mean i'm writing we're blogging in the daytime but i haven't left my house in right now we're recording on tuesday march 17th i haven't left my house since saturday march 14th have you gone out for walks and stuff by the way if you can hear that everybody that is elvis drinking out of his water bowl
Starting point is 00:02:11 um I can't hear that oh I'm so sad I know that I asked you today over text like I actually just miss hugging people and that when the day comes okay I'm not there yet no but when the day comes yeah I feel like you will want my embrace all right well I feel like we should because we're letting people know that this is how we're podcasting for the foreseeable future hopefully the short foreseeable future yes because we are social distancing we encourage you to practice social distancing as well please um we have not gone to work our workplace has been um well they've encouraged us to work from home and also our province in canada ontario has instituted um declared emergency which means that pretty much the only thing that's open is essential services
Starting point is 00:03:05 So everybody is encouraged to stay home and you do that to flatten the curve. That's the expression everybody's familiar with because we do not want to overwhelm our healthcare workers and have everybody get sick if you are going to get sick at all at the same time. So anyway, everybody, we do encourage you to listen to the experts, stay home if you can, only go out when you absolutely need to. And if you do go out, be safe. Observe.
Starting point is 00:03:37 I think it's something like three meters. Yeah. I mean, ideally, it's three meters, but it is about six to 12 feet. If you can stay away from people. That's right. OK, so now that that's established. Yeah. Let us know if there are audio issues because we want to do this.
Starting point is 00:03:53 We still want to maintain our weekly schedule. Absolutely. If not more. I mean, like if you've got drama, we've got time. Yeah, we have. that's what I was thinking today I was like there better be a lot of questions coming because like we have
Starting point is 00:04:08 as a collective nothing to do yeah so well I mean I have to write but I'm also working but I'm just saying we have a lot of down time yeah but I welcome all the questions okay so yeah we may be able
Starting point is 00:04:25 to record more than one what's your drama episode a week so if you've got drama send it in Yeah, please. I would like to begin with an announcement. Oh, God, I know where you're going with this. While I'm not even in your personal space, I know that some fucking little bitchy thing is going to come my way.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Fuck you. I'm not saying anything bitchy about you. I'd like the people to know that you have chosen a BTS bias. I have. Okay, yes, that's where you're going, of course. I have. I picked the dad of the group, as is important. Okay, so just to give people some background, in particular, like, with boy bands, no matter where they're from, you, like, the terminology is that if you have a fave.
Starting point is 00:05:13 Yes, wait. Remember when we, before we started this podcast, I was like, okay, what are we going to talk about? You said, follow my lead. Just follow my lead. I thought it was going to be, like, a little bit more interesting than this, but we're going right into BTS. Okay. Okay. Okay, so for those of you who are unfamiliar, when it comes to boy bands and terminology, you typically always have a fave.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Of course. And what you call your fave is your bias. So there are seven members of BTS. Yes. I have asked you to pick a bias. Yes, you did. And you cooperated. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Actually, to be quite honest with you, I picked the bias before you asked. I will tell you that. I'm very, I'm so proud of you. And I feel like you did this for me. I did mostly just so that I could participate in the conversation because getting texts from you is very one-sided. So I was like, might as well, might as well engage. We have, we have a four-way text with it's you, me, Duanna and Kathleen.
Starting point is 00:06:19 We have other texts with other groups, but specifically I have dedicated our four-way texts with Duanna and Kathleen, really to BTS, and I've encouraged all of you to pick a bias. Your bias is Jin. Yes. And I like that choice. I find him the most
Starting point is 00:06:37 attractive, the one with the least amount of makeup, and I find that he is... You know when I picked him? I picked him when they did that carpool karaoke, and he was sitting in the very far back, and he was just having some shits and giggles by himself.
Starting point is 00:06:54 And I enjoyed it, and that's the day I was like, that person so he's known as the as i've told you now as you know but we're letting other people know who are uninitiated to bts he's known as like first of all he's the oldest of the group at a ripe old 27 yeah that's fucking geriatric for a boy band but okay yeah and he is known as like the dad joke guy of the group but also he's the most immature i i also find this is perfect for me. Okay. Anyway, so that was our announcement to start. It's like school, you know, when you have daily announcements. Ding, ding, ding. I have picked my bias. It's the third week of March and Sasha has picked a bias, a BTS bias. Okay. Shall we get to other people's drama? Yes, please.
Starting point is 00:07:43 All right. Here we go. Am I reading this week? You sure are. Okay. Here we go. Hi, Sasha and Lainey. Hope you're doing well and you and your families are staying healthy. Thank you. It's Not so much a problem that I have, more me just being petty and wondering what is the best way I can get away with it. A former friend still follows me on Instagram. We had a falling out four years ago and haven't spoken. I unfollowed her after the falling out, happy to no longer see her in my feed. I don't do much on social media, but when I post stories, she looks at every single
Starting point is 00:08:15 one. It annoys me and I wish she would just mind her own business. Should I just get over it or block her? she could potentially see that i blocked her and i don't want to give her the satisfaction of knowing that it bothers me four years later i think maybe i answered my own question but would love to hear you i i answered i think maybe i answered my own question but would love to hear your thoughts thanks l all right l okay um have you ever unfollowed someone on instagram no because because you typically don't ever need to unfollow someone um but isn't what you're supposed to do
Starting point is 00:08:52 just to mute them like no if you don't care you're supposed to act like you don't care and just mute them yeah but she can't do that because she unfollowed the person so she unfollowed the person yeah and the other person still follows her and like sees her stories oh this is i mean this is i wish i knew i wish i knew why they had this big falling out me too okay but i mean whatever happened they had this falling out she unfollowed l unfollowed the other person but the other person still follows her and it's been four years and it it bugs her ass that like that the other person still watches all her stories and can see her feed which kind of makes me sad for the friend you know i also think that this is a little out of our like age demographic situation
Starting point is 00:09:49 or maybe it's not because listen we dug into the dick pics last week we can dive on in on this one i i think it's because there is a whole culture and like a thing associated with who you follow how who you like i mean we've been through this before right within your friend group you're you know within a certain community and demographic you're supposed to like photos and then if someone notices that you're not liking enough of their photos then they can get mad and so this is a thing this is definitely a thing so what happens when someone you hate is following you can you do anything about it well see I guess that's what I was asking I wish I knew what the fallout was if the fallout was like stole your man or she like said you were
Starting point is 00:10:35 a fucking smelly cunt or something behind your back or something like really inflammatory then I would be like block the bitch just fucking don't let her see anything but if they just had like I don't know like if it was just I don't know a writer even called herself a bit petty so if it's just something light and they're no longer friends because they don't really like each other anymore I don't know do you really have to go through that trouble it just seems like she would look our writer would look extra extra petty to have to block her like what does it matter to you that one other fucking person's looking at your shit especially four years later that's my thing it's like if you had blocked her if Elle had blocked her when it happened when all this shit
Starting point is 00:11:15 went down it would be one thing but four years later if you block her out of the blue then she knows that you're thinking you're so bothered yeah and that as you just said because you answered your own question you're kind of giving her the satisfaction that you care so I would try in your mind to like turn it around and you be the one to be satisfied that this person still cares enough about you or hates you enough because that's the other side of the coin yeah to like watch all your stories and you know care enough to watch your stories when they go up I would also dig deeper to understand why like you pretend like I think our writer's pretending like she's over it but there's still some scar tissue right there's obviously still some scar tissue because if you
Starting point is 00:12:00 really didn't care then I don't know why you'd be so bothered so I would be curious to know I would hope that our writer would give us some more feedback on this because I'm curious I want more layers I want to understand why she's still that annoyed I don't know if I was over someone and they were still looking at my shit I would sort of I wouldn't be annoyed or mad I'd kind of find it funny but here's the thing but here's the thing with stories like with stories what's so interesting is that instagram allows you to know who sees your stories and everybody who uses instagram knows that when you watch someone's stories it's they can see you it's logged yeah so this person is doing it with the knowledge that l is gonna know
Starting point is 00:12:44 that she watched her stories like right because she because she's over it is that a flex from the friend yeah well yeah I think the flex is absolutely that her friend I think doesn't care that's why I keep on saying I think that it would be interesting for Elle to understand to herself why she still cares because friend doesn't give a flying fuck yeah right didn't care enough to to delete her as a friend doesn't care enough to like stop watching her story right it ain't no thing to her so what you have to do Elle is you have to think about that like take that in maybe you have already and really appreciate that this person is pulling the ultimate flex on you and is like yeah this is someone i used to know i follow them on instagram
Starting point is 00:13:31 i check in once in a while watch the stories i know that you know and i'm still fucking doing it how you like me now i don't give a shit yeah and exactly respond accordingly with the same swagger which is to kind of you and i both agree sash i know what you're gonna say is go about your way like you would post extra extra pretty things i would that i would not um but yeah i would liar of course you would look of course you would it doesn't seem i mean at the end of the day it doesn't seem like i would do it subtly like i wouldn't do it to the point where it gets to be super thirsty i haven't been like honestly during the time of coronavirus my instagram use has been so minimal like there's there are days ago my last post on instagram was fucking oh like 10 days ago
Starting point is 00:14:27 no maybe last post but aren't you just constantly on social media i cannot stop i'm on twitter i'm on twitter i'm on yes i'm on twitter a fuck ton like you but instagram i've i forget almost like there are times the only time i go on instagram is when someone sends me a linked instagram and i have to open it to go see what it is otherwise i don't think to open instagram my last post on instagram was march 9th today is march 17th so yeah like it has been a full-blown almost two weeks i i just yeah i haven't been on it you know what i think we should do one day is let people in one day to our um our coronavirus group chats we don't like it's not like we say anything salacious but it's it the only thing that gives me fucking joy these days and oh my god
Starting point is 00:15:16 obviously friends and people are doing this around the world and it's just i was laughing on my couch for hours last night um but i always think that we should like was last night the transcript wait was last night the night that we decided to do our commune decided about our commune yesterday right then today we talked all about um duanna found that great thing that you wrote about um oh right about joshua jackson on who josh yeah there's just so much there while there is so much bad stuff out there there's so many like funny things going on that just lift the mood well i think we all need a mood lift i would hope that everybody listening out there like you know while everybody is in social distancing mode that you do have people that you can connect with even
Starting point is 00:16:03 though you can't connect with in person and that is the beauty of technology while we shit on social media a lot or Sasha does I mean that is something that is something that has been valuable for people and I also want to give a shout out to people who may feel extra lonely because I think it's worse for you know people who have loneliness and mental health issues it's bad at the best of times and right now when there is so much encouragement to keep your distance i think about those people too so me too but yeah i mean on our our group chat we've been keeping we've been propping each other up by like you know being silly with each other but also the other day we started talking about um you know if this is the end of civilization and we have to start all over
Starting point is 00:16:49 again and we had to build our own commune like we assigned roles to each other yeah who are we also invited who our fuck boy was gonna be yeah i i don't know why we turned into like well a one like why our village our colony had one man yep that's just the way it went and the only person that was allowed to fuck that one man was kathleen but he doesn't get to be the boss like in cult right no no no no no no no yeah we just like toss them around no i didn't i did not co-sign that kathleen gets to fuck him only just because she declared she's the youngest like i don't know why that matters but um anyway one day we will maybe release yeah for people's shits and giggles but yeah if you do if you decide to to do a commune role play group chat situation make
Starting point is 00:17:35 sure you assign roles yes and the rules are someone has to clean someone has to be the doctor you're the doctor i guess you were assigned i was voted doctor i was voted doctor i think a cleaner a doctor you were the person who was just supposed to go out and we I was the ambassador slash spy or something like, and we couldn't, Duanna was really upset because she didn't have a role. No, I gave her a role.
Starting point is 00:18:03 She was a person who made maps, who drew maps, which is really good at geography. These are not good roles, quite unnecessary, but we're that boy. I don't know how I got the ambassador role because that would mean that I'm the one going out there,
Starting point is 00:18:19 possibly like risking my body for infection. Yes. As we've told you, you have courage, so much courage. Great. Um, anyway, so L sorry about that segue, but I think, sorry about that segue, but I think it's clear. Just do nothing on Instagram, live your life. Do not worry about that one person who's like, you know, kind of trying to, i don't know yeah like i think that that person is posting up on you and you gotta like you know do not respond you actually just need to figure out how to actually not care so figure that out yeah okay next yes i'm a huge fan of your podcast thank you here's my drama since you never know who knows who i'm blinding all names including my own but oh but they gave us fake names which is
Starting point is 00:19:15 amazing yes so they say i'm tahani and was close friends with janet for years are you ladies sensing the good place theme yet yes at first she was a cool chick we talked careers life goals politics and feminism boys were fun and important but not the sole purpose of life right fast forward to her meeting her now husband chitty she immediately turned into a cookie cutter stepford wife all janet could talk about was how amazing she was spoiler alert he wasn't how she couldn't wait to marry him move to the suburbs and have babies with him oh i found it annoying but tried to be happy for her i eventually met my husband michael janet couldn't care less because she was in baby making mode i traveled for her bachelorette bridal shower and destination wedding but this chick didn't come
Starting point is 00:20:04 to any of my events nor did she send gifts or a gift what a cheap ass sorry sorry go on the final straw was when i saw a facebook post of hers janet had a baby boy and asked anyone would adopt her dog oh no janet what oh janet okay and asked if anyone would adopt her dog because she quote couldn't juggle a newborn and a dog. I love animals and was so grossed out that she dumped her dog, aka her first baby, when the real thing came along.
Starting point is 00:20:41 I was so done that I permanently ghosted her. It wasn't a mature move, but I'm not a confrontational person at all. Cut to the purpose of my email. It turns out Janet just started working in my building and I'm anxious about randomly bumping into her. What do I say or do? Help.
Starting point is 00:21:00 oh gosh okay janet okay so our we are speaking now to uh tani and janet is the the abandoner of dogs of the dog okay of all dogs we're gonna assume first of all we're gonna assume not that i agree with this as a rationale but you know some people might that janet wasn't giving up her dog for like allergy reasons like her her her baby was deathly like would die if the dog was around right we're gonna just go with that baseline right yes yes because like presumably you would state that you would put on your Facebook post hey my baby will die if I keep this dog yes right I think yeah exactly okay um what's interesting is I there's this girl I follow on Instagram I will not obviously out her i love her she's so cool and so rad mouth the name to me mouth the
Starting point is 00:21:57 name to me no you wouldn't know anyway i swear to god it's like you i swear to god it's a person that i don't really know i just follow her okay um and she has two kids and had like this beautiful dog and like there were all these glorious pictures of them and one day she put kind of her dog on sale on instagram she was like stop it i'm a single mom i'm a stay-at-home mom i've got these two kids we fucking love this dog but this dog needs a lot of um activity and it's going out and i just don't have the time we bought it for this amount of money would anybody want to adopt it i it was so hard for me because i love this person in a way because i buy goods from her but i had to be like i can't follow you anymore because that's not and it's horrible because like
Starting point is 00:22:49 who am i like maybe it's money problems maybe maybe it was just like really she was just spread too thin but i don't know i don't think i feel like if you're gonna do something like that maybe not put it on facebook or instagram to fucking sell slash adopt your dog you know what i mean like that that opens yourself to a whole bunch of a judgment um and it's and it's just fucking gross it's gross like and especially because you know you and I have dogs like and we don't have kids so I can't really get it from that standpoint but like that shit is your ride or die too like you're not gonna fucking hang one of your kids out on Facebook for adoption are you just fuck I don't get that that would make me angry too I listen I don't want to sound like
Starting point is 00:23:39 a fucking jackass and we're so we're only going to address this situation for sure once in a while of course there are extenuating circumstances where you can't keep your pet maybe i i personally go with maybe we'll go with maybe i yeah i personally and you don't have the lens to be able to see that situation but i other people might so okay fine but in this situation with janet and given the information she has it's one of those classic cases of oh i'm so obsessed with my baby and i just don't really want to deal with this dog anymore which is foul foul it's foul it's foul and um i think that that speaks to to me legitimately a character flaw well that's why I'm so glad that our writer cut her off.
Starting point is 00:24:35 I wish that our writer had confronted her and would have told her why she could no longer be friends with her. But what does Tahani do now that she is going to run into this person? So Tahani is a non-confrontational person. And I think that that is going to work well for you. So you don't like confrontation. I don't want to make Tahani do what is not in her nature. so I'm gonna say Tahani if you see this person just kind of like do the classic like head nod okay and keep going I'm really busy be on your phone have your phone with you at all times yeah
Starting point is 00:25:15 right I think there yeah I don't think there's any reason I mean you know Tahani why you cut this person off right so and because you didn't feel like confronting her because you just didn't have you know just didn't want to which is fine fair game um i think you can just go about like she is just a like stranger right like that's how you're gonna act right otherwise you're gonna be fake then you're gonna fucking hate yourself if you're fucking nice to her then you're gonna maybe actually have to have a conversation with her about why you ended the friendship so just do what lady does to me in hallways which is fuck you basically give me a little bit of a smile but just continues on doesn't say anything it's like we are we've never met we're ships in the night
Starting point is 00:25:58 she's yeah she's cordial that's what you need to do yeah treat me like lady does yeah don't do anything that would reflect badly on you like you know don't give her the fucking finger or you dog a bitter fucking cunt bitch which is what i would like to say to her but you just the word is cordial so that you are unimpeachable you are a cordial employee of this building who is very busy you always have your phone in your hand you always give a curd head nod you know bow if you need to be asian like you know we're gonna bow okay yep this is where i'd bow but remember like i'm not sure if um if you know you're still going to work because of uh social distancing right now and COVID-19 but when this is over and we have to hope that it's going to
Starting point is 00:26:52 be over soon I think that our social interactions are going to be way different like I think that we are going to want to keep our distance I know you will no no I will not you fuck oh you no lie you're such a fucking liar there will there will be a there will be a time frame where it will be hard to get back i swear to you the last thing i want is for us to finally get connected with each other and then still remain disconnected so no that is not what i want well it is it's what i want because i'm already an uncomfortable hugger like i do not like that hugs have become part of the culture i i will handle a handshake but i like the asian way when you see each other you just bow you know from your waist hello and then you move on um sorry to break it to you
Starting point is 00:27:41 asian people also hug do you know that some of them but it is also in our custom culture custom to nod but we also are uh we hug what do you know what fucking someone you don't know like you know there are that's true there's this article about how the standard greeting between anybody in la which is really ironic because la is full of backstabbers and like cutthroat fucking people in the entertainment industry that in la the standard way of greeting somebody even just an acquaintance is a hug and i'm like i do that no what do that yes i don't you push your breasts up against somebody that is just like an acquaintance correct i why i because i don't know and there's actually sometimes i don't hug uh the beginning of the interaction i hug at the end
Starting point is 00:28:30 And then sometimes when I hug a stranger, I think, why did I do that? Why did you do that? I don't know. It's instinct because I have a heart. I don't know what to tell you. It has nothing to do with heart. I have a heart. No, you don't.
Starting point is 00:28:43 You have one that's functional, but you don't have an emotional one. Anyway, all I'm saying is for Tahani, the new reality after social distancing is over might be that people will just be like weird and awkward and keeping their distance anyway. so that could bad advice no yeah bad advice no this is bad advice just i like what we had said before you went into this tirade which is a head nod a bow a smile just treat them like a stranger i'm just saying hugs are special and i just don't know why we're so we're not more discriminating with them why did you add hug into the narrative no one asked if she was gonna needed to hug the person she just wants to know when they're washing their hands they were good enough they were good
Starting point is 00:29:27 enough friends in the past where a hug would probably be like a thing ghosted her fucking dog abandoned her nose that's great so if you ghosted her just a head nod uh and keep walking with your phone so yeah but agreed great on a different tip though please reconsider hugging we don't need to hug strangers i you i want this still that part deleted okay uh final question um dear lady and sasha friend drama oh all kinds of friend drama all right i've been friends with he for over a decade she's always been high maintenance but she's worth the extra effort and lately she's always been high maintenance but she's worth the extra effort but lately she's been driving me crazy she started a new job and all she talks
Starting point is 00:30:16 about is this job over text at dinner at brunch at spin class it never ceases let me clarify how long this new job has been one year i've been listening about the ins and outs of every detail for an entire year it's all so mundane who she likes or who she dislikes all the details of her projects i'm so bored you guys it's gotten to the point where i don't even want to go and hang out with her because that's all she talks about you two might be the wrong people to ask because i know laney gossip likes to show their work but i need to know how to deal with this help s okay so s has a friend called p and he is obsessed with her job right listen for me the top two most boring things are someone talking about their mundane work life and also the second one being
Starting point is 00:31:10 dreams I hate those two topics I don't like talking about them I hate it when people I hear you about dreams I don't want to hear about people's dreams yeah and I like last night I had a dream that kind of dream and they tell you and like as if you're supposed to be able to picture it as if you give a flying fuck what they did for eight hours while their eyes were closed I could give two shits I don't even remember my dreams I don't know how why so many people can remember their dreams uh i don't know maybe because you don't sleep long enough no you get deeply you get i do dream but i never remember my dream then oh like you mean you know that you've dreamt you just don't know that yeah yeah okay um okay so what do we do here i i mean god
Starting point is 00:31:56 i know a couple of people who are like this you can say it to my face over face time no what do i'm interested like you guys have a whole fucking podcast about work i fucking love knowing interesting work stories but i don't give a flying fuck who you work with how you feel about that person what your daily meeting was why are you giving me the finger because you fucking love when i you you're always whenever you come over you're like okay tell me everything i want to know that's called gossip and drama that is not like what meetings you went to and like how many conference calls you had and how you feel about fucking bob could give two shits you're like you like that what you like listening to people's detailed work fucking stories i do the ones that
Starting point is 00:32:48 our writer is talking about listen my best friend we've talked about this before she works in fisheries that's fascinating and she her husband always jokes that she has like the most boring job because her job is literally counting fish like she right okay the scientific way of putting it is that she studies the migration of salmon which i fucking love it but she's not telling you about the behind the scenes of that job like the paper pushing she's doing no yeah she is i know all the people at her office and she's in management now. So we talk about her management decisions. I mean, we haven't like for the last couple of months, but like we, for example, we love going on like two, three hour walks. And when we're on these walks, I'm like pumping her info, like, tell me
Starting point is 00:33:41 about this and what, you know, every year she has to interview people for seasonal staff. And I'm okay now I'm boring I'm so bored this already I literally just checked out for a solid no pass but what's interesting here that just made me think about what our writer do is maybe make it interesting maybe ask the questions that could be more interesting right like oh well what is that dynamic like maybe you can get better stories out of these work stories that she's giving you because you're asking when you're talking to Fiona Fiona might be delivering some boring ass shit but you being a little sneaky little person always looking for the gossip probably ask the right questions right yeah like what's Mary like well it's Mary's whatever like
Starting point is 00:34:31 I bet you do that yeah well I mean I I yeah I think that I hear you that for sure some people can be boring i for example am married to somebody who is really granular oh my god he's so granular he's so granular oh my god give him one topic like tires and he can talk about like tires for a really long time he can't he's he's so i love him too but he's so granular as you can attest to like thank you for being my witness and so he will drill down into like the most yeah like detail about as you say tires and it is like i hear you i hear you s i get it where yeah and and then but like i don't know i i'm married to him so i can say whatever i want to him and to so what i do is i say this is my eyes are crossing this is so boring i will say
Starting point is 00:35:43 to him fucking spice this shit up or right take out some of the granularness right well that's what i'm saying right yeah are asking them to punctuate the story with more interest you gotta to make it sexy yeah if this is a good friend of yours and you can speak honestly and I'm saying this to you I'm saying this to my husband I'm saying Jacek sell me on this story it is great and also to be honest all our friends do the same thing to him like you have Joanna has and so if it's that open and and you can make it into a joke it becomes funny like you can deliver it in a way that's like dude you gotta yeah give me some you know give me some skin here totally there's also the other alternative if you don't want to do that because you feel like that would be too mean
Starting point is 00:36:30 is maybe just start piping up with your own story phrase you know sometimes people have like lopsided friendships where there's that one friend who just dominates the conversation and they just are so used to it that that's all they do maybe it's time for you to speak up a bit so that you can just push the conversation the way that you want to i don't you know you didn't say if you tried doing that or not i'm sure you have in your mind but maybe you need to actively try to move the conversation to what you want to talk about right stop her dead in the tracks and say whatever else whatever else you want to talk about yeah i agree with that too so either those both uh yeah yeah try both you can do those concurrently like a combination jump yeah right yeah it doesn't have
Starting point is 00:37:14 to be one or the other you can you can do that at the same time so that you don't you're you don't become the dickhead who then dominates the discussion with your boring ass life totally um so you guys can like sell each other on your the sexiness of your lives yeah totally right yeah i like that yeah because that's also friendship like you know we're lucky i mean our friends are like we we're performative for each other yeah like duanna really when duanna's telling us a story it is a fucking performance yeah it totally is it is and we are just like yes encore we're all in it yeah it's a it's it's it's a play and and she and she in particular takes it very seriously and so you know that's part of it too where and i'm not saying like friendship has to
Starting point is 00:38:03 be about performing for each other and there's no authenticity like of course you maintain the realness, but when you're out for dinner, you all want to have a good time. Totally. Totally. Yeah. Okay. I like those two strategies. Okay, so take those two and keep us posted. Keep us posted if you want to. I mean, we all have the time now
Starting point is 00:38:21 to keep each other posted. Totally. Totally. So, on that note, please send us all your drama because, again, we have time for your drama. We would like to record the podcast as often as we can during social distancing.
