Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi and welcome back to another episode of When Reality Hits. Today's guests are one of my reality TV favorite couples. You first met them on Team Mom 2, and now they've built an entire new chapter together on HGTV with their hit series, Down Home Fab, and their home goods store, Down Home by DeVore. From marriage and parenting four kids to renovating homes and building businesses together, they have seriously. done it all. Please welcome Chelsea and Cole DeVore to win reality hit. Hi, guys. Hello. How are you all? I'm just so excited to be here. I am a Vanderpump rules. Oh, yeah, for sure. I watch. I watch whether I love it. I love it. How do you think about the new cast then? This was not even going to be a question. I was going to ask you, but I have to know.
Starting point is 00:01:12 I'll be honest. I haven't watched it, but I, because I'm like such an OG person. I'm like, I'm like so tied to like OG people that I will watch it, but I haven't yet. Have you watched The Valley yet? Nope. Oh, hey. You got to tune into the Valley. We're on season three now, but me. The Valley. Yes, I have. Okay, yeah. So we're on season three is Aaron. The O.Ds and their spin-off. Yes. I have a lot. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:45 So me, Jackson, Kristen, started the Valley. Obviously. Yes. I've watched that. Yeah. Obviously, Jackson's on anymore. Yeah. We're kind of like the O.G.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Yes. Okay. Yes. I watched that. And then this year, we added La La Laugh, Kent, and Tom Schwartz. Yeah. Yes. So me, me, Kristen, Doty, Tom Schwartz, and La La are all on the Valley.
Starting point is 00:02:07 So if you liked OG Vanderp, you have to tune it to the Valley. Um, okay, let's get started. Well, actually, I remember watching you guys on team mom. How that feels like forever ago. Does it feel like a whole new lifetime, like a whole lifetime ago for you guys? I literally, like we'll see it's so weird and maybe you have this experience. Like watching TikTok, I'll like scroll through and I'll see a clip of me on teen mom or 16 and pregnant. And I'm like, that does not even feel like me.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Oh, my gosh. How long ago was that for you guys now? Well, I think we left teen mom in 2020. 2020. Wow. At least six years ago. But you started in. But then I see clips from like when I was 18 and I'm like, this is nuts.
Starting point is 00:02:59 That is wild. I mean, you guys grew up on TV and now you have four kids, which is crazy. It's beautiful. So beautiful. I've always wanted like three kids and I have one. And so I give all the credit to parents that have four kids or even just more than one. I like to go back to the very beginning to see how you even got started on Team Mom. Like, what was that like in the very beginning?
Starting point is 00:03:28 Like, how was the casting like for you? How did that even come about for you to get on that show in the first place? So when I was pregnant, I was 17 and I was like sitting on my couch. And 16 and pregnant was a show was in their first season. And I was sitting there super pregnant. And I was like, oh, like, I could do this. And I think I don't know if this is 100% accurate, but I feel like there might have been like one of those commercials that was on back in the day where it was like,
Starting point is 00:04:02 we are currently casting for this because they used to do that back. I don't think they do this now. but everything's on social media now i feel like now's on social media but back in the day it was like after an episode of 16 pregnant or teen no 16 pregnant and they were like we're currently casting so if you are a teen mom or whatever you're pregnant right now and so i just like literally i just found the email last year i want to say and it i just sent them an email it had like three sentences and after that, it just continued on. So I sent them an email and then wrote whatever.
Starting point is 00:04:46 I was like, oh, I am this like girl in high school that is pregnant and my baby daddy sucks. And after that, it just like spiraled into like the phone calls. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe they needed someone from the Midwest. Yeah, I think they were like. They were like, they were like, great, great, perfect. She's from the Midwest.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Let's get her on. We need somebody from every area around the U.S. I mean, that show was huge. I just had Kail Lowry on. I saw that last week. Do you guys have any contact with each other? So I would say of anyone in the cast, Kale is like the person I talk to the most. And I love her.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Like she's killing it. And I love her so much. Yeah. And she has seven kids. So you guys are fertile. We think we have it hard. When I see her on social media, I'm just like, I don't know how you do. But she makes it look so easy too.
Starting point is 00:05:45 And I'm like, oh, no, we're like struggling with our floor. Listen, every, I'm sure you guys are doing fantastic, but everyone shows the great stuff. 100% social media. Everything like that. I have one kid and it's not easy. So trust me, we all struggle. we all go through our things, but everyone likes to show the best parts, especially on social media.
Starting point is 00:06:09 That's just part of it. But she'll talk about the funny stuff and like the hard stuff too. But I'm going to get me. She's honest. Yeah. She's very honest. And she's like a boss, man. She is a boss.
Starting point is 00:06:20 She is. Yeah, she's on her own network and stuff. So she's working and doing all that stuff. So I'm so happy for her. And for you guys, you all have left the drama and now you have an HD TV show. Like that has. to feel awesome to not have to worry about that type of drama anymore. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:06:38 It's just like so interesting. When we first started out, obviously teen mom is like very focused on not necessarily the drama. It's your life. Like it is real drama that you're having in your life. Of course. Yeah. It's because people always ask us they're like, is this scripted or back in the day?
Starting point is 00:06:56 Like they used to say it's scripted. And I'd be like, it's not scripted. It's real stuff that's happening. our lives, but they're asking us questions that it makes you talk about what's happening. Like, it's not scripted, but obviously it's a TV show. So they have to be like, what's going on with this? And I'm sure it's the same thing for Banner Pump is. It's like pulling out.
Starting point is 00:07:21 It's pulling out things without you seeing it. Exactly. And something that I know from doing reality TV for over 10 years is like, if you have an argument with someone or, you know, somebody. said something bad about you. You might like ignore them for a couple of days or, you know, not talk to them for a couple days, but no. You are going to face it.
Starting point is 00:07:44 It's going to happen and you're going to talk about it. Oh, absolutely. And I don't like confrontation. I will avoid that for, I would actually rather never talk to someone ever again than to confront them. I'm an overthinker of people pleaser. I don't like confrontation. So that can be like really tough for me at times.
Starting point is 00:08:06 I'm just like, oh my gosh. But our producers know what they're doing. They got to get it out of us, you know? Absolutely. Well, I mean, going from MTV, being on reality TV versus going to HG TV, it was almost like when we started HG, you're like, are you guys being for real with us? Like they want you to look good. And everyone's just like looking out for you and they're not trying to dig things out.
Starting point is 00:08:32 And it's just like, wait, I can just like be myself and be normal and like time. Listen, I love HDTV. I love like interior design and stuff like that. So you guys have like a dream job for me. How did how did that whole situation get started for you guys? Okay. So we had known or I at least knew that we were going to leave MTV. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Yeah. It just got to the point where I was like. like I feel sick when they like come to town or whatever. I was like my body's literally telling me like it's time for the next chapter of life. It was like you're not good like. Yeah. It was always talking about stuff you didn't want to talk about. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:16 And it was like things that didn't like. It didn't exist in our marriage at the time. Yeah. And so one night I don't even know what I was doing, but I just DM'd HGTV. We were building our current house at the time. And I feel like it's a common thing for, like if you're a fan of HGTV and you're building a house, you're like, you almost like envision
Starting point is 00:09:38 yourself. You're like, I'm on Instagram. I'm Joanna Gaines. Yeah. And so I just like mess with him. I was like, you're missing out on good. Like this could be so fun. And I deleted the message right after I sent it because that's very out of character for me.
Starting point is 00:09:58 I do not like shoot my shot at all. And they. they message back the next day and they were like, this is so interesting and we would love to like explore this. And then it just kind of spiraled from there. Then they gave us a shot and next thing we knew, we were shooting our first season and rolling with it. That's amazing. Cole, did you know that she was going to do that? Or was it just kind of like, hey, I did something. Here you go. Yeah. No, I had no idea. Like I mean, I'm always hands on and very involved in like during our building this house like it was hard for me to like not be here all the time and then
Starting point is 00:10:34 all of a sudden she's like oh i messaged everything yeah everything and so but i was just like i'm just going to send this i don't even know why i was thinking because that's just so out of character but i just sent it and i deleted it right away because i was like that is so embarrassing of me i think you told me the next day when you were like okay so here's the thing i messaged and then they actually messaged me bad. Yeah, yeah, I think I waited until they message back and then I was like, hey, by the way. No, I love that. How bad ass that you were able to just DM them and get a response, you know? Right. No, if the world worked like that all the time. I know, that'd be great. That's pretty incredible. How long have you guys been together now? Let's see. This year is our
Starting point is 00:11:22 10 year wedding anniversary. Wow. Before that, oh my God, how many, 12? I think we got together in 2014. 14, yeah, 12. Aubrey, my daughter was four. It was four when I first met her, she was four. Right.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Okay, yeah. I remember watching you guys. And it does seem like it was so long ago, but I still can remember especially looking at you all. I can remember like everything is flashing back, you know. Um, Cole, what was that like for you with her already being a parent and already having like this TV show and that kind of reputation and then like coming into to that world? What was that like for you? Um, well, let's see.
Starting point is 00:12:07 To start up, I was very, uh, let's say, Bachelor. Like, yeah. Country boy hung out my friends. We hunted. We fished. When I went to his house for the most time, he lived with all these guys. and I remember laying in his bed and he was like, yeah, one time a mouse ran across my chest.
Starting point is 00:12:27 And I was like, I was literally laying in that bed. Watch out. I am going to die. Well, you know, and I mean, doing man things. It's all we did. But I always knew I was going to be a father.
Starting point is 00:12:41 So meeting someone that you fall in love with, it doesn't matter what their situation is, honestly. Like, I'm, I'm a man. I know I'm going to be a dad. I can step in any role at any time. And when I met her, it literally, it was nothing different.
Starting point is 00:13:00 I was very also sensitive about, you know, if you don't want me to meet her right away, that's okay. I don't want to push you in anything. And I also don't want to get her hopes up too. So when we first finally met, I mean, the rest is history, obviously after that. But yeah, no, it was. It was just, I just knew this was my, my life. I mean, I was just made to be a dad, if you're like. That is incredible.
Starting point is 00:13:31 And now you guys have three more together. So that this worked out so perfectly for you. You do seem like a good old country boy. I need a real country boy. Yeah. And you need to come to South Dakota and find your. Well, you're from. Where are you from again?
Starting point is 00:13:48 Kentucky. Kentucky. Yeah. Yeah. I've never been to South Dakota, but I am still single and seeing couples like you guys, especially with like the stuff that Cole was saying about, you know, your daughter and, you know, wanting to be a father and all that. That like gives people like me hope because I've been told that people wouldn't date me
Starting point is 00:14:10 anymore because I have a kid and I'm in my 30s and blah, blah, blah. So those words have been like said to me. Yes. Well, I would. And I knew we were going to be talking. I was like, I have to talk to her because, like, watching you on TV, I'm like, I feel like our situation is like very similar. And I just relate to it so much.
Starting point is 00:14:33 And you just need. Before you get into it, I was going to say, as a man, though, if there are men, though, that won't date you because you have a child, then they're not a real man. So don't get discouraged. They're all real men out there. So sorry, go ahead. I didn't want to know. I'm also sweet.
Starting point is 00:14:52 I just feel late to like your story. And like even watching it was like, oh my gosh, I've totally felt what she's feeling. And it could feel really heavy like having people weigh in online or in the public of people being like, oh, how could they like this person, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, you just don't get it. Yeah. It's your real life. It's not fake.
Starting point is 00:15:14 It's not TV. It's your real life. And yeah. So I just like relate to your situation. so much and I'm excited for you to find like your Kentucky or maybe South Dakota. I've never been to South Dakota. So that would be interesting. Like for sure. After having my mommy makeover and seeing myself on the valley, I am really working on my health and getting in the gym and losing weight and just feeling good and healthy and doing all those

What would be your biggest difference between filming your younger life on MTV versus filming your adult life now on HGTV? I know we kind of talked about the drama and stuff, but what would be like the standout difference? I think the standout difference
Starting point is 00:19:09 that we would both agree on is like the children. So, oh, for sure. Teen mom was really, I love teen mom. Like, that was a great show. and obviously so grateful for it. But it was a lot of our kids' personal life, specifically our oldest daughter. It was her personal life, her relationship with her dad and everything at the time in my relationship. HGTV was so respectful. Like when we first started talking to them, the reason we wanted to work with them was because they were like, if you don't want, if your kids don't feel like filming today, they do not have to. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:48 It was like boundaries we set too. Yes. You know, once you learn and you're, you're a part of filming and you kind of realize what TV's about, especially doing reality TV, you're like, well, we have a few boundaries here. Like I don't, if my kids don't want to be on, they're not going to be on. Right. Or they don't necessarily need to be involved in the whole thing because they don't know any better either. thing.
Starting point is 00:20:12 If they could show everything they would because they don't understand, like, what people are going to say about it online or say about it in your life. And so I feel like that was for sure the biggest thing for us was I was like, really, this is so crazy. Like you guys are okay with us not. Like we'll have our kids on like a home reveal day or like us just goofing around the house. It's positive.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Yeah. That's all we. Oh, we need. I'm so happy for you guys. I has to feel amazing. Like, I can only imagine. Do you feel way more protective now about what you share publicly after growing up in a big chunk of your life on TV? 100%.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Like, even, not even like TV-wise, social media. I'm like very protective of Aubrey just because she's in her teenage years. And if how old is she now? She's 16. Wow. Wow. Don't you feel old? Because I do.
Starting point is 00:21:13 That is wild. But like we'll post our little kids doing stuff and comments here and there like, why isn't Aubrey in this whatever post? And I'm like, because she doesn't want to be. She's a teenager, man. She does not have her. No. We're just not going to force anything upon them.
Starting point is 00:21:34 And yeah. Sometimes people don't realize like, hey, you're not. watching a live TV show whenever you watch it because you know it comes out months later and be like just because your one kid isn't in one photo doesn't mean they're not there you know yeah that is like the biggest thing for us is like my little kids are like they still will like pose and like they want their picture taken or whatever but i'm just like she's not she has to i have her approve everything and like can i post this and if she doesn't want me to i don't because when i was a teenager i'd be show me that picture.
Starting point is 00:22:11 Right. I feel like that's a very... I still do that to this day. I mean, obviously I'm not a female, but I feel like your teenage years is a very sensitive years for... Oh, yeah. You're doing so much. You're coming out of being in the public for that.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Yeah. Yeah. That is a big one. A lot of people always ask me, like, because I have my son Cruz on the show and stuff like that. And I think it's so well done on the Valley. Like the Valley is about us, the parents. It's not so focused on the kids.
Starting point is 00:22:45 So there's a big difference in what you guys did and what I have done. But I also get to like have my platform to talk about autism and different things that can like help other people. And I feel like they've done such a great job showing how happy he is and how wonderful he is. So there's a lot of positives that are out there as well. And that's amazing. Yeah. Yeah. Wait, sorry.
Starting point is 00:23:12 What'd you say? I don't think we'd ever be the people that were like, we don't show our kids face or anything. Like, you're respectful of like the kids, which is exactly what you're doing. Protecting. The positive is, that's amazing. Yeah. I think the hardest part is any of the negative comments. Because if you come up for me, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:23:32 I signed up for this over 10 years ago. Whatever. You can talk about me. do not talk about my family, do not talk about my kid. That's where the redneck will come out. Yes. You have to hold back a lot when you read, especially when they're about your kids.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Like I remember I told someone, I think back on Team Mom days, they were talking about Aubrey. And I was like, I'll give you my address if you want to meet me in the yard. And Cole's like the nicest for like him to say that. Yeah, no. Here's my address. I'll be outside. Again, good old country boy.
Starting point is 00:24:06 I love it. Okay, going back into home renovations, how did you guys realize that renovation designed was something you actually could turn into a career? So when we built our house, our current house, it was the first house we ever, like, built. And we had done like renovations in our other past houses. Oh, for sure. Yeah. And then when we built this one ground up, we were just like, this was so fun. And we like found a passion in it. And then we were when we got done finishing our house. We were like, oh, no, we're done. Like, we want to keep doing that.
Starting point is 00:24:41 And so I think that sparked something in us that was like, how can we keep doing this? And that's just where it spiraled. Well, I think something really, like, exploded us when people were like, oh, you guys are building a house sale. Good luck with your marriage, dude. Oh, yeah. And then all of a sudden, like, the whole process, we were like, what do you mean? Like, we're picking out flooring and then we're going to go have a drink at lunch.
Starting point is 00:25:06 and then we're going to go do this. And I'm like, this has been a great time. An amazing process. So. Yeah. You know, that's great because a lot of people do say that renovations and stuff can really be hard on a marriage. So I think that kind of shows some strengths that you guys have with each other,
Starting point is 00:25:21 that it's something that you really enjoy to do together. 100%. Absolutely. And like we want to take that way off of like other couples or people because it's not everyone's passion, obviously. And so if we can take that on, we will because we're going to have a good time with it. Well, I think it's also, it comes down to hard-headed men, too, because if you're smart, guys, you just listen to your wife. And it goes really, I already knew that you're a sweetie, but now you're just going to take everybody's hearts.
Starting point is 00:25:53 This is true. Why are you? Say yes. You got a good one, Chelsea. And the way that you guys look at each other and stuff, you can tell that you guys are still so in love after all this time. And that's beautiful to see. that really is i have a brother-in-law from florida oh he's very
Starting point is 00:26:12 but you sound just like him and it's so funny what are you going to say cole he's very what when you when you like say country boy like that that man is country yeah my accent comes that i'm never going to lose my accent because even though i've lived in l.A. for over 10 years. I talk to my mom every day. I talk to my brothers and sisters all the time.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Like, her accents are as thick as mine. And there's no way you can lose it if you're still in constant contact with your people back home. You know, the people who say that they move to L.A. lose their accents. I'm like, are you not talking to your family? Like, how are you losing your accent? That doesn't make any sense to me. Like, goodness. So, Chelsea, you kind of focus more the design and Cole, you're like the handy man in the, in the situation. Have you always been, both of you always been good at that kind of stuff before you even got together? I'm not handy. I don't. I literally, I like pretty things. I've always mentioned fashion and makeup and all of that stuff. You know what I know what I want it to look like, but I'm just not like I try DIY stuff.
Starting point is 00:27:30 sometimes, but then when we got together and I was like, oh, I want new floors. And he was like, I can do it. I was like, this is perfect. Yeah. That is perfect. I mean, I'm kind of handy. Like, not really. Like, I couldn't go build something.
Starting point is 00:27:48 But if something was to be put together in my home or something, it was always me. So I've never had a man who, like, that I was with that was able to, like, build things or do anything like that, like period. But my dad and family, all the guys are just like that, you know. So I like, I didn't know pretty, but I had to put everything together by myself. I still want to me that, like your family's all like that, but you like didn't end up with someone like that like that. I feel like your next guy is going to be like the handiest.
Starting point is 00:28:20 I hope so. I'm sticking tired. No, I, let's see. I work construction throughout high school in the summers. And then once I graduated college, I actually just went full-time construction for 12 years. And then I don't want TV doing this. So I love it. I just always like to just get dirty and build things and just kind of been in my life.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Everything happens for a reason. Chelsea, do you like know how to do more stuff now or you just leave that all for him? I feel like I know how to, but like he just wouldn't let me do it because he's just going to do it. Okay, I have a very hard time watching. Yeah, if I were to try to do something, he doesn't, he's like never. I'm also very like ADHD. So I'm watching her. I'm like, I got it.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Yeah. You can just still sit. But in Florida, in Florida, we were doing a show in Florida. And she was out there with the jackhammer, jackhammer in concrete. So I'm like, she'll so hot in there. If I need him, like if he's not home or something, I'll do it. But if he's home, I'm like, oh, no. I help.
Starting point is 00:29:30 Yeah. And so it works out. Oh, so I think I know the answer to this, but who actually wins the most arguments during renovation? You do know the answer to this. Something else ever won. I don't even try. If you guys disagree on something like the flooring or the cabinets or anything like that, is it just whatever Chelsea says goes?
Starting point is 00:29:55 Pretty much. I mean, I, sometimes I throw. He likes to throw an idea. My ideas, I will admit, are out there. Sometimes they land, though. I like to think super crazy and outside of the box. So I'll give her my ideas, but I usually know what's going to happen, and I'm fine with that. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:30:14 She knows. I love it. I love it. Is there any renovation disasters that viewers never got to see? Ooh. That's a good question. Ooh, I'm trying to think. it's so hard to like
Starting point is 00:30:29 separate it yes there obviously has been some yeah I'm just trying to think of like what they were it's just behind the scenes of like I'm thinking of season one but I don't think it's anything it hasn't been anything like super major yeah it's like way is this island gonna face
Starting point is 00:30:47 we can't do this there's been some like there's been some like flooring layouts with tile that like we had a vision on and then they had to lay it different And I guess people wouldn't know that, but we were like, come on. Yeah. What is that in the drama?
Starting point is 00:31:07 What did that change in the drama? Like, going from my baby daddy to the child being late incorrectly. Yeah. That shows adulting. Yeah. I'm like, this is what we're upset about these days. I mean, how awesome. I love that for you guys.
Starting point is 00:31:26 What's one home trend that? both of you are over. I'm saying this with love because I literally have white cabinets in my house right now that I'm staring at. Yeah, we were going to do. White cabinets. I love them. I do think a white kitchen can be so timeless.
Starting point is 00:31:43 But right now I just like love wood cabinets. And I think those are actually so timeless. Like just wood tone everything. Yeah, that is really pretty. Yeah. My kitchen is one of the. very white kitchens and I was thinking about adding like a pop of color like I love like emerald green and stuff and I'm like that would be so like I don't know it would take a while to get used to it you know
Starting point is 00:32:11 like I'm not a color person but I love a green I love green. I love green. It's so pretty. I'm just nervous like here I'm going to show you really fast get your opinion so like this is my kitchen it's very And like this is kind of like a grayish blue, the island. But it's been like this, you know, we bought it brand new. So sometimes I want to like add a little color here and there. You could start you could start by just painting the hood over your stove green and see how you. See how you like it. And I don't even don't even know if it would be green.
Starting point is 00:32:47 But I love like the live plants and stuff like that. So there you go. Yeah. Looks good together. But that is a good idea. just like to try little things here and there because I can always paint it back. It's not like...

Starting point is 00:36:01 You can find good priced rugs. A rug is going to change an entire room. Yeah. Every single time. This is a more, it's affordable, but unless you know how to DIY, it might be a little bit more, but like lighting. I always say lighting and rugs change an entire vibe
Starting point is 00:36:19 of a space. And so if you're like on a budget, for sure, rugs. And if you want to change like dramatically, lighting is another option. Yeah. For sure. I would even say just adding accents.
Starting point is 00:36:32 Like you could add an accent wall to a room. I love an accent wall. Literally by going. Yeah. Like you go to Home Depot, buy some cheap pine wood and paint it costs you 100 bucks. Like I built these shelves back here for like maybe $12. Just like I mean, well, I just found scrap in the barn and so like it's just
Starting point is 00:36:57 small things really kind of transform the space. Yeah. I mean, I definitely agree with everything you're saying. And I even think like something as small is like changing out the handles, like door handles. Oh, cabinet. Yeah. Yeah. Huge.
Starting point is 00:37:14 Huge game changer. So if you're listening, those are easy ways that you guys are. I mean, yeah, you can find anything. Really. So being busy with four kids, can you just grab. a normal morning at your house. Chaos. Chaos.
Starting point is 00:37:32 Funny because I'll watch people's like day in the life on Instagram or TikTok and it's like so aesthetic. And I'm like if I filmed a morning routine in our house, it's me screaming, you got to go. Everyone get up. Like we're very tight be. And it's a shit show every single day. and my friend was like, you just need to record it because people see aesthetic stuff all day long. I'm like, no, I can't because I'm literally yelling at everybody.
Starting point is 00:38:04 Like our mornings are just yelling at everyone to get up. And what are you going to eat? We got to go. The other day I woke up and our daughter Elaine was eating a popsicle for breakfast. And I was like, oh my God, this isn't. You know. And you know what? We let her do it.
Starting point is 00:38:23 School's almost out. It's fine. you don't have to explain yourself to me. I'm not one of those. I live in L.A., but I'm Kentucky. Okay? So like, go play in the dirt. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:38:36 Every day we wake up and we're like, what is happening today? And like the most asked question that we get is like, how do you guys do it? And we're like, honestly, we're not really doing it. We're fighting for our lives every day. And I wish I was like very organized. I wish we had our stuff together. but we just don't. That's very common.
Starting point is 00:38:57 I tell everyone, I don't have a schedule because something is going to ruin it every day. So I don't wake up with hopes of having a planned out schedule. So why fight it? I just embrace the chaos every morning. Yeah. And the kids are almost out of school. They get out of school next week. And I'm like, when that's really going to start.
Starting point is 00:39:17 Whatever. Real life is about to hit. Who's stricter with the kids? Who's the stricter parent between? You are? A hundred people is like too nice. I'm a softie. They,
Starting point is 00:39:28 they walk all over me at all time. He'll try to like complain. Mm. And they're like, they laugh in his face. Oh. What's one parenting moment that humbled you very fast? Ooh.
Starting point is 00:39:41 So many. Ooh. The list is large. You know, Walker told me she was going to get me for Mother's Day. What? Wine. Oh.
Starting point is 00:39:53 I love it. Please don't embarrass me. I hope you didn't answer this on your little preschool fill out. Oh my God. That is so cute. I love that. I would have loved the gift. Just don't put it on your form at preschool.
Starting point is 00:40:07 Yeah, exactly. On Instagram, the little forms that kids fill out are hilarious to me. I think they're so funny. I mean, we're being humbled every single day. Yeah, we're being humble. I think an easy one is like with Aubrey being 16.
Starting point is 00:40:23 and you're like, well, we don't want you doing this or having you sleep over when there's boys, if boys are going to be there, stuff like that. And then it's like, Jill's be like, well, you did that when you were at this age because you forget sometimes you tell her stories about growing up. They're not telling you anything anymore. You're like, God, like, okay, well, we're not doing that. Yeah. She's getting close to the age that you were, Chelsea.
Starting point is 00:40:46 Oh, I know. That's why you're freaking out. I'm freaking out. Literally, if you're ever going to talk to me, she's like, I got to talk to you. I'm like, just don't tell me you're pregnant. Don't say that. He's like, mom, please.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Oh my goodness. I love it. How do you keep marriage fun whenever life gets so busy with your work and with all the kids? Well, I feel like we're lucky because we do. We work together every day, whether it's with TV or our store or whatever else we have going on. We're always able to be together. So we really kind of take time throughout our weeks and our days. and we're like, let's go have lunch and a drink and enjoy each other.
Starting point is 00:41:26 Yeah. And if we talk about work, that's fine. But it's just being together. But being together in an atmosphere where it's just her and I, like, we really try to take advantage of those moments for sure. Right. And not just work or with the kids. That's great. You guys seem super strong.
Starting point is 00:41:42 I'm really happy for you all. Thank you. I'm going to do some rapid fire really quick. Are you ready? Yeah. One home to court, train, that needs to disappear immediately. immediately. I know you said white cabinets.
Starting point is 00:41:55 Gray. Yeah, gray. Gray. Yeah. Sorry. Sorry, guys. That's not gray back there. It's a light blue.
Starting point is 00:42:04 You have a great. These are gray. We hear you. Yeah. One decor item you secretly judge in other people's homes. Ooh. Oh, my God. This is not rapid fire.
Starting point is 00:42:18 We're like, I don't know. I'm like thinking too deep. I don't know if I judge it on the spot. I get it. I don't know. kind of overall the like eat oh i know but we were uh definitely a victim of this that phase that phase while back yeah i love hobby lobby but like the very the big eight or limelash one of yeah yeah yeah of course we went through that too yeah but yeah i know what you made that's hilarious
Starting point is 00:42:50 who's messier in real life between you two okay i'm a shit show But we're both messy, unfortunately. Yeah. Okay. I will say I have my messy is my, well, I guess you have it too, but I have the ADHD piles. Piles. Like, I'm going to come back to this. I could tell you exactly there.
Starting point is 00:43:12 I think, unfortunately. I think it's you. We're both messy. Okay, fine. Okay. Who apologizes first? Cole. Cole.
Starting point is 00:43:24 I was going to say, I feel like I know the answer to this. Yes. Yeah. Who would survive longer without their phone? Him for sure. He's like, duh. Yeah. Whose side of the closet is scarier?
Starting point is 00:43:41 She owns the whole thing. I didn't even know where your clothes are. I don't either. I've got a couple pairs of stuff and I'll just wear it. Oh, I love it. Most random thing your kids have broken. Broken? Broken.
Starting point is 00:43:56 These are just random, funny, silly questions. Yeah. Random thing they broke. I mean, they break everything. So now I'm thinking of like the most random. Our son is like so sweet, so kind and everything. So I'm trying to think of something he broke just because like he would feel so bad. Oh, he, they were slamming his door and they broke his door frame.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Did he get as bad since he's such a sweetie? Of course. Oh, awful. Oh, okay, one thing in your house that absolutely does not fit your aesthetic. All the kids stuff. I'm blocking with my shoulder right back here. There's a pink kitchen. There's a Barbie house, a kitchen, like, and like random stuff.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Yeah, I get it. Trust me. Who's more likely to secretly shop online late at night? Me. Oh, yeah. I'm an online shopper too. I get it. I love an online shop.
Starting point is 00:44:55 Yeah, me too. What's one parenting hack that actually works? I don't even want to say what I was just going to say. I was going to say bribery, but I know that's not like the best. Don't take my parenting advice. We're surviving. Hey, that's what I do. Sometimes.
Starting point is 00:45:14 Yeah, you have to do it sometimes. And if people act like they never do that, they are lying. Okay. Everyone does that here and there. You don't think I've given Cruz a sucker to like do something for. me, but one or twice, like everyone does that. So I was the first thing with him to my... I mean, you have your days when you're like, I just got to do it.
Starting point is 00:45:35 Yeah, exactly. What's more dangerous? Toddlers or white furniture? Hmm. Some of these are silly. The mixture. The mixture of the two. I would say...
Starting point is 00:45:47 The toddlers are bad with the white furniture. Yeah. Who falls asleep first during movie night? Oh, during movie night? I fall asleep regularly the earliest. Really? But if we actually sit down and watch a movie, immediately when you sit down,
Starting point is 00:46:05 you fall asleep. It's because my battery. My battery is like, as soon as he never sits down all day. He's like, go, go, go, go. And then we finally are like, okay, let's sit down and watch a movie.
Starting point is 00:46:15 Out. Do you, like, what if you're watching a scary movie and he's over there, passed out? You're like, dang it. Now I'm up. Every time. I ask these two questions, too. everybody that comes on the podcast.
Starting point is 00:46:28 If you could be on any reality TV show, what would it be? I already have mine. Go ahead. Mine? Yeah. Or were you thinking together? I was thinking of yours. I think of yours.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Well, you think of yours. I would love to, like, host something. I don't know, like, even what reality show I'd like to be on, because I just, I don't even know. But, like, you, I feel like, you know. Yeah, of course I do. Because I'm just waiting next season of Traders. They're going to have me on, and I'm going to.
Starting point is 00:46:58 They're not going to have him. I'm going to tear it up and I'm going to win because I will plow through that. Wouldn't he be the perfect traitor? Because he's like a nice guy. Yeah, no one would ever like suspect you at all. And I'll be so dumb like, oh my, can you believe that? And they believe you too. I love it.
Starting point is 00:47:18 Triters. So many people say Triters. Everyone loves that show. Oh, so good. Obsessed. I was thinking for you like Survivor or something. Oh, I do that too. anything. I'll do every show, competition, fitness, whatever, except for I'm not going to be
Starting point is 00:47:33 on naked and frame. I'm sorry. Yeah. That is driving. That's a good boundary. I can't do that to my wife. So, okay, the last question that I have for you guys is who is your favorite reality TV star of all time? You can go back to way back in the MTV days. You can go to now, whoever, but I want both of you guys to pick your one favorite. I have so many because I just watch all of them. Yeah. I watch all of them. And like, I don't know if it's because I'm talking to you or not, but I'm like, Lisa Vanderpump is an iconic queen. She is.
Starting point is 00:48:14 She is. Like, there's so many that I love and like that's just what came to mine. Like, it's just iconic. Yeah. She is. Because of everything we've watched together. What reality TV? Man, I don't know right now.
Starting point is 00:48:29 trying to think who's your favorite traders my cat was doing the same thing coming across this is Patrick oh Patrick I love it
Starting point is 00:48:41 I mean I did really like Rob on the last trader because I feel like we literally are like the same yeah yeah I think that's why you would do good at traders too because you kind of have that
Starting point is 00:48:55 Rob vibe you know like the country boy I'm sure you can wrangle the snakes. Oh, give me all the snakes. Well, thank you guys so, so much for coming on when reality hits. Can you tell everyone where to find your social media, or they can watch your TV show or anything else that you want to share about? Yes, so Chelsea Huska on Instagram.
Starting point is 00:49:17 Coldabour on Instagram and TikTok. Yeah, I think it's Chelsea underscore DeBore on TikTok. I don't know, but Sound Home Fab on HGTV. And yeah, thank you so much. I'm so excited to chat. It was so fun. I could talk to you guys for a whole other hour. I was like, oh.
Starting point is 00:49:33 Yes, but if you guys ever come to L.A., let me know. I'd love to meet you guys in person. Absolutely. That would be awesome. Yeah, well, good luck on everything. Congratulations on everything that's happened for you guys. And I hope you guys have a great week. Thank you.
