Who Are These Podcasts? - Ep93 - Game That Tune

Episode Date: February 4, 2018

We're joined once again by Doug from Who's Right (@Whos_right_pod ). If anyone has a reason to hate us, it's Doug. First we bashed his show on episode 86. Then we had him cohost on a show that review...ed a three hour podcast about the earth being flat. And now he's listening to terrible video game music and nerds discussing topics that couldn't matter less. Sorry Doug. At the end of the show Karl shoehorns in more Isotopes music. Starting point is 00:00:00 It's show time. That's what we come in Our caseroves like all over the Mandarin Doug W-A-T-P W-A-T-P W-A-T-P W-A-T-P Who are these podcasts?
Starting point is 00:00:46 W-A-T-P Who likes these podcasts? Not W-A-T-P Who likes these podcasts? That one's beyond me Who are these podcasts? W-A-T-P. W-A-T-P. W-A-T-P.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Hello and welcome to W-A-T-P 93. Who out there is podcasts? The show that puts the mental and judgmental on your host, Kara, with me as always, is Doug from the Who's Right Podcast. Howdy again, sir. Thanks for joining us, Doug. Great to hear from you. I'd like to remind our listeners you can visit whoarethese.com, our Facebook page, or on
Starting point is 00:01:33 Twitter at whoarethesepod. Email the show watpshowatgmail.com. We're always looking for podcast suggestions, also. If you like what you hear, don't forget to give us a positive five- star review on iTunes. Today we'll be reviewing a podcast called Game that Tune. It's a suggestion from John Regan, one of the show's co-hosts. Doug and I have both listened to the show separately. We have not discussed it with each other beforehand. Doug, this week I'm gonna change formats. We're gonna do something very different. We're only gonna talk about the good parts of the show. Party in the mush this of morning radio. I'm joking. So this is a show that has four co-hosts, John Regan, John Harrington, David Fleming, and Jesse Moore. And these guys are video game nerds
Starting point is 00:02:21 who talk about video games. guys are video game nerds who talk about video games. So, uh, this is the first podcast I've ever listened to that has pissed me off. Really? I, I, I could, I would rather listen to a podcast from my high school bully talking about finger blasting my mother and listen to another episode of this piece. It's so harmless though. It's just it's just these kids who have nothing going on in like video games. What's so and ranging about it. So I listened to it back and forth the work and it made me want to crash my car. So the good thing, I guess, yeah, if I was diagnosed with rectal cancer and I was given two hours left to live, I would listen to this. That's the only time I would listen to this because it would make it seem like an eternity of a life left.
Starting point is 00:03:13 That's a good point. This show is an hour and 52 minutes or so. It goes out and I listened to this whole show twice all the way through it. Are they get the clips and everything? Holy shit. You had to been fucking bleeding from your ears man. This is I'm not a good I'm not in a good mood if that's what you're I'm doing I Was getting my clips this morning, and I'm not happy about it. Let me play the clip I think sums up the show now the show is called game that tune and the promises to game show between these four guys They play video game music at the guess which video game it's from.
Starting point is 00:03:46 But that's not really what this show is. Here is a clip that sums up the show. You know, it just seems like a really, like, you know, well done, like, hand-tron hardstyle besides scrolling game. You know, you jump around, you grab shit and throw it, do some ground pounds. Apparently, you can like, inhale a bunch of air and like blow all the enemies off the screen and you can play you Can play a two-player mode. There's a two-player mode of the second player gets control of bird Okay, so it's literally a game no one's ever played and the one guy's explaining how the game works
Starting point is 00:04:19 There's too much people have never played this game before that's what this entire show is because this is their 95th episode. They've been doing this for two years and they're picking games from the year 1995 because the theme is the 90s is episode 95. All right, these are all games from 95. So you have obscure games no one's ever played or heard of and then they talk about them at length. Who is this for? So, so the and that's not even what I thought was the worst part that for me the worst part was they would intro a song yes, and then there would be about a 42nd awkward silence and then I Have that yeah, and then they would go on to another song from the same game
Starting point is 00:05:00 Yeah, and then there'd be another awkward conversation I guess and then another fucking song from awkward conversation, I guess. And then another fucking song from the same fucking game. So I, because I like your show so much, I jumped into episode 96. Okay, great. No, no. No.
Starting point is 00:05:19 So I wanna play my clip, if we could, the one that says my summary clip of this shitty fucking show. Okay. Sweet alright. I like it. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty good. So who wants a little trivia on this? Pretty good. So who wants a little trivia on this? Please it's so bizarre that they play this music and the music will last for two minutes straight for no reason It's just repetitive nonsense and then they'll fade it out and then like you just played There's that dead air this long block of dead air and then they go. Oh sweet nice. I like that. That was good
Starting point is 00:06:01 What what what what it's going on They could have done this show in probably in all fairness, say 25 minute show that as you said, the clips are very monotonous. Right. The music, the music. So they could have just played a snippet of the the music from the game and then did whatever trivia they wanted to and then got the fuck out of there. Okay. So back to playing down got the fuck out of there. I'm just going to play down to the dragons or whatever they are. Right. I just want to play a quick example of this is the kind of shit that's going on.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Not for most of the show. Most of the show is them just nerding out, but this is the kind of music that we're listening to for like I said, up to two minutes at a time in some points. Hi, so Doug, video game, you're telling me that don't make you mad? Video game music sucks, especially back then when it was all electronic. So I actually have a friend, Pete, who used to earn a living writing and recording video game music. And he would just spend hours at night playing guitar and putting drum tracks to it.
Starting point is 00:07:13 And so I know this firsthand, video game music is not well composed. It's just nonsense, because they have to put out as much of it as possible in order to fill up fucking hours and hours of time that these idiots are sitting there in front of the TV playing these games. This is not brilliant masterpieces of work
Starting point is 00:07:27 that we're talking about. Guys, pick up a fucking pink Floyd Elm. There's good music out there to listen to. It's not this nonsense that they play in the like, oh yeah, sweet, that's pretty good. So if, you know, I only sent you four clips and that's... It's funny.
Starting point is 00:07:42 It's funny. It's funny. The one that says, uh, sped up 50 times, what that is is a transition from one song I only sent you four clips and that's it's funny. It's funny. It's funny. But the one that says, uh, sped up 50 times, what that is is, is a transition from one song to another song. Or no, uh, them talking a song and then them talking again, but I was nice enough to speed up the song 50 times. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:59 It's good. Okay. And many enemies will scream at the side of the player and attempt to run away. Hmm. and many enemies will scream at the side of the player and attempt to run away. Sweet. Nice. Yeah. Great start. it love it. Oh Shit All right, I have to play this for you and I apologize if it's a lot of dead air in nonsense But I put together a compilation this is from episode 95 all of their reactions to video game music beautiful. Oh, yeah It's to video game music. Beautiful. Yeah. That's nice.
Starting point is 00:08:45 It's awesome. Hmm. Sweet. Yeah, that's nice. Yeah, I felt like he's getting a hand job. Like a little electric guitar in there. Nice. Sweet.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Hmm. Oh, it's just getting good. Yeah. Yeah. Nice. I felt like that was going somewhere. Short and sweet Yeah
Starting point is 00:09:08 Hmm Cool, yeah, I like it. I like it. Yeah, yeah, definitely neat sweet all right All right It could not be more awkward. I wish that I could have heard that before we started recording. I would have asked you to put a bed of porn music
Starting point is 00:09:32 underneath it. That would have fucking great. You're right. I missed out on that one. Missed my opportunity. So Doug, did you notice, this is a podcast that they put out. They talk about it that it's a podcast, but the origin of it is that it's a live
Starting point is 00:09:47 Twitch show. Did you know that I did not okay? So I actually watch these guys on YouTube because they put it out live on YouTube Facebook and Twitch every Wednesday night I want to see what's going on here and Basically you have the the four quadrants with each guy's face. And you watch them in real time, react to this music that awkwardly. There's no audience for this. They have like seven followers across three platforms. And this is one of the thing I hate about the internet. I love the internet. Trust me. All that means is one of them don't have a mom. Exactly. They're having. Okay, so there's these nerds having a normal nerd conversation that you would expect them to have behind closed doors
Starting point is 00:10:32 But instead they turn into a show and the fact that there's one fucking asshole give me to their patreon They're going well. Yeah, the fans are demanding more stop it guys. Just hang out and just do this shit bands are demanding more. Stop it, guys. Just hang out and just do this shit like you normally would on a regular phone conversation. Does that have to be a show that you're putting out embarrassing everyone? Whatever they're getting from their Patreon, I have to assume is them trying to seed it. Probably. I mean, they're up to 60 bucks a month, so. Oh, that fucking pisses me off. That's too much for you. So I got to ask, is this the worst show you've listened to yet? Man, it's up there because the premise of it is garbage. The content of it is ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:11:19 It's nonsense. No one would want to listen to. And then I have to play an example of just once again, terrible broadcasting, as if this would be a surprise, go figure these dorks who don't have human interaction very often aren't good at broadcasting. We got our Patreon Go-Aiden. We got a occasionally worthwhile crowd
Starting point is 00:11:37 in our 24-7 video game music stream. We stream ourselves playing games, we goof off, and we have fun, man. And I think it's just one of the things I'm really proud to be a part of. And I'm glad that we've kept it going. So another year, another set of great shows. And, you know, here's two, here's two, you know, a great 2018. Fucking hate that you know nonsense.
Starting point is 00:12:02 When you're doing a show, try to think about what you're saying before you say it. Don't just mumble your way through the conversation. So I was thinking for some reason, I had it in my mind that if you were to take a prostitute, right, you take whatever they're getting from Patreon and buy them a prostitute, get her naked, put her in the room with them.
Starting point is 00:12:21 And I'm just picturing them poke in her vulva like it's a video game button, you know, like, what do I do? Why is she squirt again? I've seen this in videos. I don't understand what's going on here. I have actually a clip out here that kind of goes with this conversation. At the very beginning, they talk about the theme of the show and the theme, the winner of the last week's show gets to pick the theme of this week's show. So they talk about how the theme... There are no winners on this one. Right, right, right.
Starting point is 00:12:47 They talk about how the theme is the 90s, and then they say something that is very telling. And David Fleming won last week's episode, and David, what's that fantastic theme that you got in store for the people of the night? Well, we had been having so much fun talking about the 90s, while we're in the 90s episodes, I figured I would keep on keeping on with the 90s. Yep, it's been four fantastic episodes, we're into our fifth, straight 90s episode.
Starting point is 00:13:18 And, you know, I've been really enjoying this run that we've had, man. Like, I think it's filling in a lot of our gaming habits. Like, it's telling the story of what we were all doing in the 90s. Yeah, not getting laid. That's the story of what you guys were all doing in the 90s.
Starting point is 00:13:33 What's sad about it is, and this is what I don't understand. They're adult too long for their teenage years, because they're still trying to relive these years. And remember when we had this console and we were playing this video game, this is so sad to think that that's when they peaked, when they'd never even touched a boob, and they were playing video games by themselves,
Starting point is 00:13:53 that was the most fun time in their life. So I guess I didn't even realize that they were adults. Yeah, oh yeah, these guys are adults, unfortunately. So they did four episodes, right? Of the 90s, right, video game music. And then I've got one in parentheses. They're short. It's nice episode was games from the 90s.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Wow. What a twist. Oh, boy. I just listened to two hours of 90s video game music. And then like I said, I jumped into that other episode and it's more 90s video game music. Yeah, it's not good. And they try to touch on pop culture from the 90s,
Starting point is 00:14:36 I guess, and I think that's what they were doing. It's so depressed. It's frustrating. If you know when you ever watch UFC or boxing, sure. Okay, so you know when the fighters sitting there getting his hands wrapped and he's always got ear buds in and he's sitting there with his eyes closed and you can tell he's getting angry, he's listening
Starting point is 00:14:56 to this fucking show. I have a clip on here that I know you picked up on this. This is just terrible production value. Oh man, so John Ring says Charles Nelson Riley, which is sadly incorrect. David and Jesse both say Knuckles Chaotic's which is sadly incorrect. Oh, fuck really? So the thing that's interesting about this is that that delay sound is actually the exact setting that David Gilmore had on comfortably numb. They have fucking nailed it. That is perfect.
Starting point is 00:15:28 I mean, the fact that there's just this crazy echo and that's okay, that's fine. It's very sporadic. I'm not technically savvy to know what it is. I'm obviously not either. So remember, we have four hosts on this show and we have one of them using a delay pedal and it turns into this. This is what I just call confusing mess on his face. Please don't tell me that's also not a taker. What is that guy's name?
Starting point is 00:16:05 He was looking at the chat. I think you're saying this game. Are you supposed to be able to make kinds of tales about anything they're talking about right there? So I know this is a comment theme in your show, but I've got to ask, what were they hoping what happened by sending you this show to review? I know.
Starting point is 00:16:24 This is the depressing part for me because the guy John Regan reaches out and says I like your guy show Would you check out our show? They've been doing this for two years so they should be good at it by now, right? And then I listen to this and I'm like he has to know I'm gonna hate this show. This is garbage Do they think I'm gonna listen to this and say man? We listen to a lot of bad shows, but these fucking guys are nailing it. I don't understand. So I can tell you from past experience, that's exactly what they were. No, little stuff about that. Here is a clip where these guys also think that they're hilarious. And this guy just starts riffing on bird name jokes. No, it's just nine pallet swaps of the same bird.
Starting point is 00:17:08 Just be as confusing as possible. Great looking game, but we can get flicky. Just recolor the bird. Flicky, picky. Got flicky, picky, wicky, dicky, hicky. Keep going, chicky, ticky, chicky, ricky. I don't know if you're ricky already. Ricky, red, and Clyde. A little nicky, yes.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Wow, John, and Astel juniors. Oh, man. Hey, you know what, guys? This right here, this rambling, boring conversation, this could be a podcast. That's why I don't understand about this show. Is it? It's not a show. And they even say it's like they're poker night.
Starting point is 00:17:43 Like, we get together, this is what we do to hang out. It's like that's fine. You guys can do that. Why are you putting it on Twitch? Isn't it embarrassing? I was watching the video feed of this, and they have the little side scroller of the comments that are going on.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Most of the comments in the side scroller in real time are from the host themselves. And they have like this one guy, there's one patron on Guy, who loves the show, who's typing in a couple of things here and there, but it's just embarrassing. And speaking of embarrassing, this is the douche chiliest moment of the entire episode,
Starting point is 00:18:18 which is hard to do. But I think you'll hear it, Bidog, this was rough. Should we just drop that beat again in all of us freestyle like 16 bars over it? Because that was so pretty good. Oh man, that's terrible. Yes. You're first job. My name's Johnny D, and I'm here to say, I really suck a game that tuned in a major way.
Starting point is 00:18:38 I don't know wrestling, I don't know most games. Really not that good at keeping up with a beat, because play the saxophone shit right over to over to David you Napoleon dynamite motherfucker man it it lacks the charm of Napoleon dynamite though you're not even rooting for them at least with that guy you're kind of rooting for him's like guys it's a hopeless nerd these guys you're accurate then you're pissed at them for existing and fucking ruining podcasting with this nonsense. So when I brought that up, first thing, right, when you started recording, I told you this made me angry
Starting point is 00:19:15 and you said, oh, it's just harmless fun. You have the same anger as I know that I am. I pissed too, I'm with you on there, but I'm used to this. I do this every fucking week. So it's fine, I'm over it, but. Why would you do this to yourself? I don't understand. Dude, I don't understand either.
Starting point is 00:19:30 When we, you know, this idea came about based on open Anthony's new Jack Tober and they would listen to other morning radio shows and just goof on them because they're all terrible. And I thought, oh my God, podcasts are terrible. We could do the same thing. I had no idea they would just stop being fun at some point and you're just sitting here going,
Starting point is 00:19:48 what the fuck is, what the fuck is going on? Can we have a little bit of quality control? Can we, can we, can somebody just fucking step in a little quality control? I assume that your significant other has a black eye every weekend. Oh my god, she hates Saturday morning when I have to start clipping these shows.
Starting point is 00:20:03 She makes herself scarce. You know, you, you, you've had some problems She hates Saturday morning when I have to start clipping these shows. She makes herself scarce. You know, you, you, you've had some problems in the last couple of weeks with, uh, other shows wanting to try to take you down off iTunes and all that shit, whatever. Yes. Uh, so this show here has made me rethink my stance, all that. I think that the FCC should get involved in podcasting. Yeah, I think I should send a note into it to I too, to say, I want the show taken off of your site. And I don't even, I don't think I have to give a reason.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Just listen to seven minutes of it. I need random seven minutes of it that you want to. I'll give you another example. This is, these guys try to be funny and it's the worst thing that could possibly happen. They're talking about some bird game and this happens. It's back to school, but they're birds. Yes exactly To school Yeah, beat
Starting point is 00:20:57 Epic fail. Holy shit. These guys are clever. Yeah, beat to school These guys are clever. Yeah, beat beat to school. That's a good one. Beach the school The guy said it nobody laughed and the other guy repeated it. They're like oh right. We're laughing. Ah, yeah That was funny joking I Notice that one of the guys sounded like crusty the clown when he laughs listen to this clip. I picked up I picked him. That's the spirit, John. That's uncanny. I've never heard a real human being sound like crusty, but I did take that clip and sweeten
Starting point is 00:21:32 it. That's the spirit, John. Anyway. Yeah, just as I was driving down the road listening to this piece of shit. And he did that. And that was the only time that I cracked a smile was because it made me think of the simpsons. Right.
Starting point is 00:21:50 You're like, oh, there's right. There are entertaining things out there. I almost forgot. They do this part where they get into the lightning round. Do you remember the lightning round? Yes. I have an example of that. They're talking about this virtual boy system that Nintendo put out in 95, it was a terrible
Starting point is 00:22:06 virtual reality game system. And the guys just naming off video games just to guess whether it was part of the system or not, it sounded like this. It's John Regan, Mario Tennis. Oh yeah, that's Phoebe. Yes, that is correct. Spikes!
Starting point is 00:22:21 Back to Jesse. So what is that drop they keep playing? I don't know. So I was gonna ask you I know you're pretty good with the drops. I don't know that I recognize drop that they played Yeah, I they kept playing this I wrote down spanks Spikes Is it is it like spanks like hot pants? I'm getting space space? Fuck I don't know I don't think it doesn't make a sense It doesn't matter. It's bizarre. They keep playing a Tim Allen drop
Starting point is 00:22:50 Which is funny in 93 and then they play this whatever spanks or space I couldn't make eyes or tails of what they were doing or why they were doing it and this as you mentioned dog I do like to play my drops this clip right here provesD.P. is the king of playing drops in real time I don't think any of them are him, but I play this play the same sound effect anyway. Oh Wait, yeah, oh The ones you always have on the sound board, John. I just want to hear some on the sandboard, John, I just want to hear some. I don't think so. I just.
Starting point is 00:23:25 Oh, Jesus Christ. So it's funny because they only play that clip or that drop. What? Like 47 times. And every time that they play it, it's like the first time they've heard it. And it's the funniest thing they've heard. I don't understand how it fits into the show.
Starting point is 00:23:39 I don't know. Did they play it on the one that you listen to episode 96, also? I don't. I didn't make it. I don't play it. It's like it's a mainstay. Now, they played on the one that you listen to episode 96 also. I don't, I didn't make it all. I don't play that. It seems like it's a mainstay. Like, I don't think that they brought that back because they were doing 90s.
Starting point is 00:23:52 It seems like that's a drop they use all the time, but I could be wrong. I mean, listen, I've been told your show takes things out of context, only listens to one episode. I can promise you all 96 episodes of this show suck. I've only listened to one show. I know for a fact they're all garbage. I was just sitting here thinking I'd just thought of this.
Starting point is 00:24:14 I bet if you go back to their very first episode, because I'm assuming it's chronological. So it's back with like pong. So it's just three minutes of And and and then you get a cool hell. Yeah, that's rocking. Yeah, that's awesome This is a drop that I pulled that's awesome I also have this clip the thing that they do is they play mute these music beds But then when they start talking about the video game, they play distracting music underneath while they're talking. This is the most distracting music you've ever heard as a music bed underneath people talking. Very odd. Very odd. But I think, I said they're like aliens.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Yeah. The whole games is very unusual. Alien, if you were the one who you almost have to soldier on through it. That's exactly how I felt listening to this. I had to soldier on through it for the sake of this podcast. But could you think of more distracting music to play in the background? It'd be like if I was talking to you and then we're just like, so anyway, Doug, I was trying to listen to this show. What? I found it a little bit distracting with some of the music they were playing. It's like Jesus Christ, guys. You don't have to have nonsense playing in the background of the Strathfuel from your boring conversation. You can just speed it
Starting point is 00:25:41 along, speed it up. It would would be better if they would have played an episode of home improvement underneath the entire show so that I can just focus in on that. That's not a bad idea. Maybe what we can do is re-put out their show for them, taking out the audio that sucks, meaning them, and putting in decent audio, maybe mastodon, home improvement, I don't know, anything. I have a clip on here
Starting point is 00:26:07 that's just kind of sad. So they talk at the end about how this is their 200th episode, or not 200th episode, 2nd year, their 2nd anniversary doing the show. And Jesse one of the co-hosts gets very sappy. I'd like to say I love that it gives us an excuse to all just you know talk about stuff we love to each other and I just you know I love you guys and you know I just it's cool. This makes me stat made me sad. Now I feel like a dick. Really? No you feel like a dick.
Starting point is 00:26:43 I'm not real that's what I was trying to have a human moment there sorry I couldn't pull it off very well so you think how much do you think that the suicide rate would increase if you just had this running nonstop on the other end of the suicide hotline I don't know I think it make people feel good about themselves right at least it on the other end of the suicide hotline. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha I know what point it is. Why would I know that? So they have a channel on YouTube that you can go in there and listen to video game music. So these guys are all in on video game music because if this is a real art form that people would actually enjoy.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Do you think that, or maybe you know, are any of them married? No, I doubt it. Okay, so there's four hosts. What's the over under on how many burgeons are on this show? I'm gonna put it a three and a half there, Doc No, I have a I have a betting man but three and a half would give me pause for a second This is this is an example of nerd humor
Starting point is 00:28:03 This is the, this is an example of nerd humor. This is the Sega Saturn gets roasted. Only ever released on Saturn, AKA the most popular Sega console all time. I was pretty mean to have it with Jesus. Were you being sarcastic, David? Yeah, I couldn't really tell. Doesn't everyone love their Sega Saturn? I mean I own like four. Yeah 4th-second Saturn One makes an amazing door stop
Starting point is 00:28:38 The worst part about this dog and you'll agree with me They're all trying to tag each other's bad joke So it just keeps going and going and going. Like that Sega Saturn thing, the guy is talking about like, oh yeah, he's a Sega Saturn as a door stop. Oh yeah, I put him on my arms and then climb mountains. You're like, oh, wait, what? I guess, can we just, and I appreciate it with you and Anthony on who's right. As soon as someone says something stupid, you go, okay, that's dumb. Moving on, next thing. You don't have to try to tag each other and you can't make it right.
Starting point is 00:29:10 When you say something dumb, you just have to let it die. Move on. Okay, so there's probably different tiers of that, right? So a good podcast would just edit that out, so nobody would even know that it was said. Potentially. That's what I do. So I don even know that it was sad. Potentially. That's what I do. So I don't know if it's a good podcast. But a show like ours, we try to keep it as real as possible
Starting point is 00:29:31 as you know. And I don't mean that, like, how black people say it. I just mean that we just don't do a lot of editing. So you're not like keeping it real, but you're trying to keep it real. I get it. Right. And that's just because we're like a low level comedy, whatever.
Starting point is 00:29:46 And then there's whatever this is, I, I do know that our show, Who's Right is better than this show. I know that. I know that too. Who's right? Doesn't make me want to punch babies. I'm pretty sure it's better. You know, I actually have that written down as about punching a baby. As a note for this. I like the, I'm have that written down as about punching a baby as a note for this. I'm just pitching you with Post-it notes all over your monitor and what I'm just says, punching babies. As similar to what A's Ventura, Lace is out or whatever. Right.
Starting point is 00:30:18 So, when we might as well enrage our listeners, here's an example of them cracking themselves up. And I will warn you As I like to do I have sweeten this you're like a reliable old Toyota camera like it ain't fancy But as long as you keep the oil changed. It's gonna keep running man I really hope you change your title from the Mario tennis ultra smash of game that you Camry of Game that came to the 1995 Toyota Camry of Game that's a show. That'd be fine.
Starting point is 00:30:53 You're kidding. That's the thing. That's the thing. You think they market themselves as a comedy podcast? I don't think they market themselves at all I think the only way they get listeners is by emailing shows like mine and say will you rip out my show please? Hey guys, cuz we got two listeners and here's proof Well, I hate to tell you but I had to download it on two different computers. Oh shit. It's real listeners. Fuck I feel so bad for you.
Starting point is 00:31:26 No, just a tear down the fourth wall, as they say. Doug called me on Monday, really pissed off. It's got an hour log commute. And you know, you're, you're heading into work. You're not really looking forward to the next eight hours. You want to have some nice peaceful fun time in your car. And I have to listen to this is in raging. So I apologize, this is two shows now, the Florida Society and this show they're just long and just tough, just tough to get through. Yeah, so as much as I like your show, I fucking hate you.
Starting point is 00:32:03 I hate you, I totally, I totally get that. So one of the things I know to send, I'm getting back to the structure of the show and the way that it's created. So they're playing video game music for each other and the point of it is that you're supposed to be able to guess the game based on the music. But as we mentioned, they're talking about games
Starting point is 00:32:23 no one's ever played or ever heard of. So what they do is they play the music, but as we mentioned, they're talking about games no one's ever played or ever heard of. So what they do is they play the music and then they go into what they call a trivia section. And actually, I think I have a quick clip about that. All right, are you guys ready to... Please get some trivia. You guys ready to get some trivia? It's not even trivia, what is this is hints? I don't know why they keep calling some trivia. You guys ready to get some trivia. It's not even trivia. What is this hints?
Starting point is 00:32:46 I don't know why they keep calling it trivia. I can't articulate this well, but it's it's like a nonsensical hint that nobody would pick up on, but then nobody answers anything. They just move into another song from the same fucking game. Well, right. So they'll put out a trivia thing that's only something a nerd who's waiting for you to understand. This game was released in Japan in 1994 when it did come out in Germany in 1995 and it had a misspelling on the front cover.
Starting point is 00:33:15 You're like, oh, okay. And you're not making that up. No, that's like the kind of shit they talk about. They'll come back and back. Well, I've never played this game, but I believe that this would be a Voltron 7. Like, what? But the whole thing about this though
Starting point is 00:33:30 is that when they do get these right, it's because of what they call trivia, which are hints, that's why they get it right. And so the music aspect is totally pointless. There's no reason to play this music at all. You can totally take it out of the show, and it'd be the same show. I think, so I used to play video games a lot
Starting point is 00:33:49 when I was a kid. Okay. So I wasn't, unexcited, I guess, when you sent me what we were gonna listen to and then of course two minutes in, I wanted to punch baby. But as far as I know, you could play the theme from Super Mario Brothers and maybe Pac-Man.
Starting point is 00:34:06 And other than that, there's no songs worth a podcast on that. All right, full disclosure. And I don't talk about this often, but I do play in a band called The Isatops. We're an instrumental rock band. We've covered the Super Mario Brothers theme. I might pop it in at the end of the show, just to prove that how big of a dork I actually am. We've also done Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Was it too in the way we used to cover? There are songs that people would know that are kind of interesting.
Starting point is 00:34:38 But you get into all these obscure video games from the Sega Saturn console. And even if you did play a sign that somebody knew like Mike Tyson's punch out, how long do you want to listen to that for? Yeah, so I don't even remember how that sounds. Maybe I'd pick it up if you were to play it, but it's, it's that electronic bullshit. And then it's like four minutes long. And it's, right, It's like four minutes long and it's right. Right, right. Just talking about this fucking show makes me so angry.
Starting point is 00:35:08 I'm not an angry person, Carl. I guess you are. What are you talking about? The only, yeah, hold on a second. Your whole, the whole promise of your show is to be confrontation with your co-host. That is incorrect. What do you mean you're not an angry person?
Starting point is 00:35:22 No. I mean, obviously, at least a sweetheart, but isn't the whole point of your show like fuck you, I'm right. And you don't know you're talking about. You've got it all wrong. You obviously haven't listened in the last. Yeah. Okay. So that, yeah, that's what we do. By the way, we have to talk about your guys technical issues. I don't know why you haven't used tried Skype. We seem to be having no problems with us. So we can get into that. We actually recorded this morning.
Starting point is 00:35:50 All you do. And yeah, and it's, I think it's our funniest episode yet. So it'll release hopefully a little bit before this one. But we've been spending a lot of time, you did an episode on the InWriteable rant. Yes. Right. So we've been spending a lot of time. You, you did a episode on the unreadable rant. Yes. Right. So we've been talking about that show for the last couple of weeks. Anyway, about the hosts, but all I've heard that.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Yep. Um, so we interview her but all. And it is amazing. I'm telling you. I hope your but holes more interesting than she is. I like you. Yeah. She's, she's. I like Julia. I know. She's wonderful.
Starting point is 00:36:27 But I heard you guys bitching about Google Hangouts and all the other things that you've tried to do to to record your show. So that's what I wanted to tell you. So we just recorded and it was just another technical nightmare. Oh no. And we wanted to get on here and try Skype. So we jumped on Skype and tried recording.
Starting point is 00:36:45 And it went flawlessly, but we had already recorded our show. So in the future, that's what we're going to be using. Okay, yeah, I thought that was interesting because as you were going through all the different things you've tried, and Kevin and I used to try a lot of these too when we first started out, and I hate Skype, but unfortunately, it works the best out of all these stupid. And it shouldn't. It's owned by Microsoft. They're putting very little work into it.
Starting point is 00:37:07 You would think that this, there'd be a way better service out there. And there just isn't for some reason. Well, interesting. Fun stuff, fun stuff for all the other podcasters out there. I have a clip on here that, you know, we've been talking so I don't remember what these clips are. But I do think that you'll now start getting some more like five star reviews for your your help and other podcast and dude, I just hope that somebody gives me a five star review because they see how many one-star reviews are and they want to be contrarian. It's unbelievable. Do you know how many one-star reviews we have right now, Doug?
Starting point is 00:37:40 I'm gonna go with 42. 78, 78 one-star reviews. I can't imagine there's another podcast out there that has as many one-star reviews as we have, because at some point they would just give up and go away. You know what's funny, I don't think I ever told you the story and maybe you don't give a shit, but when your gimmick came on, you were gonna review our show.
Starting point is 00:38:03 And I'd been listening for quite a bit before that. I thought, you know, I need to get on there and review his podcast and give it five stars before he does my show because after he does my show, I'm sure I will not want to interact with him again. Which was very nice of you, by the way. Thank you for doing that. That's funny though, because we're hoping that we are going to enjoy our show. We didn't.
Starting point is 00:38:26 And yet here we are, co-hosting shows together. So I don't know what happened. Did you listen to John O'Brien Brandax when he was talking about me marking out to you with the WATP and all that? I played Cliffs of it. Yeah, we run over the whole thing. So me and John talk a lot outside of podcasting.
Starting point is 00:38:49 And he's like, I cannot believe that one that you'd go on that show after they ripped you apart. And two, what were you hoping would happen by going on a show? You know, a lot of the same shit that he had said on his podcast. Yeah, yeah. Fuck you, John.
Starting point is 00:39:03 Wow. I thought we weren't talking about the Philly Phenatic anymore. I thought you wanted to stay away from talking about him in the show. I can't help myself. You can't help it. I love it. Yeah, yeah. We played, so yeah, the Philly Phenatic talked about us for 23 minutes or so.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Who's counting? And yeah, I played a whole bunch of clips from that and what I said was I was not gonna talk bad about Brand X on our show. Oh right, that's a good point. So we can go on here and talk about it all day. Plus, we were like in the 40th minute at this point. There's no way if he was listening to he would have made it this far. I can't imagine anyone's so listening to the show.
Starting point is 00:39:42 I have a clip. Before I see what I do with this in post, I have a clip that is called Nerds being Nerds. I don't remember what it is, but it sounds like this. Is one of the bosses a guy riding a robot horse? Yes. Awesome. That looks so cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:01 No! Okay. Yeah. That's just what you'd expect. Just geeking out about the graphics of a video game. Makes sense. I had a feeling that this was going to happen with this episode. After listening to it for a half hour or 45 minutes, I knew that you can't go for you can't record an hour podcast about this podcast and not get repetitive.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Right. This is true. We don't have a lot more to say about it. I have a few more clips. I know you have another clip to play, but we could probably, well, speaking of bringing this home, I have a clip that I call, bring this thing home, and I have a couple of comments about this. And yeah, before I go into the, you know, just bringing this thing
Starting point is 00:40:45 home, I just wanted to say a quick thank you to everybody. This is just about right around now is the two year anniversary of us starting this wacky little podcast. All right, two things. He says, okay, it's time to bring this thing home. And then there's 12 more minutes of this show. This is the problem. When you do a two hour long podcast, you just lose sense of time and you just think that you talking is a good thing. It's not. Try to get it down to a tight 40. Get it to a tight 25. Make it interesting. You know, all killer no filler, as they say. Secondly, and I already said this again, we're being repotitive, but shouldn't they be better at this by now? They've been doing this podcast for this long and we're being repotitive, but shouldn't they be better at this by now?
Starting point is 00:41:25 They've been doing this podcast for this long and they're still this bad at broadcasting and being entertaining The problem is no one's giving them real feedback. You know these people they put out their show and then their mom and their mom's Friend and their aunt go on iTunes and say five stars. Oh, you a great. And they just think, oh, everyone loves us. You're garbage, it's garbage, it's not good. Stop it. It's not fun, it's not fun. It's not fun, it's not funny. You know what's fun and funny?
Starting point is 00:41:53 It's not fun, it's not fun. It's not fun, it's not fun. It's not fun, it's not fun. It's not fun, it's not fun. It's not fun, it's not fun. We got a lot of feedback from our planet-manored show. And one of them, one of the tweets I got was that that Clips should be a staple on our show and I agree. That's a fun one
Starting point is 00:42:12 Doug you want to play the last clip you have here. I don't care at this point Cool hell yeah, it's pretty rocket. Yeah Cool hell yeah, it's pretty rocket. Yeah That's it talking about video game music. It's fucking great. That's fucking great. Yeah, I Disagree so I I would be willing just to sit here and be quiet for a second Why you go grab some porn music drop it in on other clip, and then, because I think the payoff on that would be worth it. Okay. I'll tell you what, I'll do you one better, Doug. I'm not gonna waste your words or my time. I'll put it in in post.
Starting point is 00:42:53 I'll put it in at this exact moment right now. Nice. Sweet. Mmm. Oh, it's just getting good. Yeah. Yeah. Nice. I felt like that was going somewhere. Short and sweet. Yeah. Nice.
Starting point is 00:43:14 Mmm. Cool. Yeah, I like it. I like it. Yeah. Definitely. Sweet. All right. Like it. Yeah. Yeah. Sweet. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:31 Wow, that was hilarious. That worked out just like you thought it would. Yeah, I'm assuming I'm gonna think it's great. Yes, exactly. I just have this clip that I thought was ridiculous. They start cracking themselves up again, telling these keg jokes. It's just a giant mechama made out of empty keg. Oh, oh. Kegma. Kegma. Oh my god.
Starting point is 00:43:54 Yeah, you need to beat him so that you can get your deposit back. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Final fight takes place at Mike's beer bar, and you're trying to dismantle keg's sigma I'm gonna try something here and I had no plans on doing this, but I'm assuming that the guy that sent you this request is going to listen to this. He may not have made it this far, but if he did, I want you guys to take all the clips and shorten them to like five seconds. That's it. Just play one five second clip and that's your episode.
Starting point is 00:44:45 Put another one out next week. You know, I was going to try to give him real good advice, but I don't give a fuck. Nobody's going to listen to this anyway. Nobody's going to listen to a podcast about 90s video game music or or any video game music. Well, the the promise is terrible. And that's the thing. Maybe in the earlier episodes where they're playing video games that people have played before it's different, but the promise is not terrible. If you have, and I'm not a video game guy, but if you played video games all your life growing up and you wanted to have this name that tune style game for video game music, I can see that being maybe entertaining for a little while.
Starting point is 00:45:18 But this has gotten so far away from that, most of the show is them trying to crack each other up about the gameplay of something that they've never, you've never even experienced in your life. So there's, there's no, there's nothing you can relate to. There's nothing fun about it. Yeah, I think we've set it off. Maybe, maybe they should just veer off, wait, just veer off into 90s pulp culture in general and quit focusing so much on, on the video games. I'll do you one better, Doug. Just don't have a show. 90s pop culture in general and quit focusing so much on on the video games.
Starting point is 00:45:45 I'll do you one better, Doug. Just don't have a show. You guys are one. You're trying to give advice. Yeah, here's the advice. Turn off the camera. We don't need to see you guys nerding out over your stupid game that tune. Video show that you do on Twitch.
Starting point is 00:46:04 Seriously, we're going to look back at this era and it's gonna be the era where everyone thought they were a TV star or a podcast star and it's gonna be pathetic. I'm part of that. I am an anti government guy. I don't like the FCC. I'm not into regulations, but I would love for there to be like an FDA for entertainment. You know what I mean? Like instead of the Fruit and Drug Administration saying, okay, you can eat this food. It's good. Like this is a show that we deem listenable.
Starting point is 00:46:36 Just listenable. That's the only criteria. It doesn't have to be amazing. You don't have to be Arty Lang in 2003. I just needed to be fucking listenable as signed off by the FDA so that we can put it on the internet and I'm not wasting my goddamn time with this nonsense. It's giving everyone else a bad name. It's it's okay. If it makes you feel something, that's what that's what everybody
Starting point is 00:46:58 striving for is to make you feel something. But if it makes you want to punch a baby, then it shouldn't be allowed to be played. That doesn't make me feel something now. I have to admit, it's not a good thing, but it doesn't make me feel something. I did want to just say quick shout out to Maynard and Tim and big thanks to both of those guys for being great sports. When we did the show last week, they updated their website great sports. When we did the show last week, they updated their website. And I did challenge them to put a link of our show on the main or the proof shows. And they did. So thank you very much. They also now have a tagline on their their homepage full of good cheer and nonsense. Who are these podcasts? So thanks for taking our quote there and making a part of your your show.
Starting point is 00:47:45 We appreciate that. Yeah. Good for them. Those are, those guys were, were really great. I mean, their show, but really nice guys. So you can't play on there. Anyway, Doug, I feel like we're, we're off format today. Yeah. We're kind of all over the place.
Starting point is 00:48:00 You know what, that means it's time to get back on to format. It's time for, I know what's coming on. Yes, that's right. It's time for the teaser. This is the time in the show. We play a clip from the show. We'll be reviewing next week. T people excited about next week's WATP. I know the last time I played a teaser for you, Doug, you were not that impressed. Correct. You felt like it wasn't a great tease that people wouldn't be all that excited about it. Yeah. I thought you were going to play it right now. I know you would think so because normally I'm normally I like to do that sort of thing. But I just said, what I just felt right now. I know, you would think so because normally, I'm normally, I like to do that sort of thing but it's like, say,
Starting point is 00:48:45 what I just felt right now is what the audience feels every week, just hanging on your every word on this part of the show. I will spit out my beer, that's really funny. I'm not exactly, you guys, you're in pins and needles, you cannot wait to find out what we're gonna listen to next week. So here is a clip from the podcast,
Starting point is 00:49:04 we'll be reviewing on next week's episode. This is the Native American legend of Wojak, a woodchuck who was the ancestral father of the Delaware Indians. Wojak is where the word woodchuck has its origins, and that's just another word for Groundhog. Okay, so put the Groundhog on pause for a few minutes, we'll come back to him because he is an important part of this story. Yet there are so many other elements that contribute to the legend of Groundhog Day, it's a circuitous road will travel over a few hundred years, mixed with pagan traditions, Christian celebrations, and Native American folklore. This is a show called Twisted Filly, this is episode 64, Punx Hitani Phil from January
Starting point is 00:49:52 24th, 2018. This is a suggestion from Ted, who writes in the show shows that neither W ATP treatment and he says, Twisted Filly and podcasts we listen to, they cannot stand bad reviews. In fact, the host of Twisted Philly is offering $100 just for the identity of someone who left her show a bad review. That doesn't,
Starting point is 00:50:15 fucking putting a bounty out. Yes, he writes, that doesn't sound unethical scary or fucking crazy at all. Just two bad shows surrounded by Yasman, both of which are just trash. Checked them out, I'm sure you will agree. So he sent me a screen grab of the post. This is from Deanna Marie, who's the host. Listen to this dog. This is amazing. No joke. $100 to whomever finds out who Miss Ginger 58 is
Starting point is 00:50:42 on iTunes. Don't post it here. Don't make it public. I don't plan on making it public either. Just let me know privately via DM or email. I'm tired of this woman personally attacking people and someone needs to stop her disgusting bullying via iTunes. It's obvious she doesn't listen to the shows, she reviews. She's just out to rip people apart. Again, this is not a joke.
Starting point is 00:51:04 You can take a hundred dollars cash or the equivalent and twisted Philly merch. That's a fucking darts assist right there. Holy shit, you know what? I'll tell you who it is. I just want t-shirts. That's fine. Thank you. Yeah, there's somebody's gonna sell out their friend for a fucking twisted Philly hat. So I know. So Doug, you asked me, I believe you asked me, that's when we were talking offline. Why don't you, what people know you're reviewing their show? And my take is we're honestly, and it's weird to say this, because it doesn't seem this way.
Starting point is 00:51:41 We're not trying to be confrontational. We're putting on a show. Our content happens to be a lot of podcasts suck. We pick a podcast or a listener speak a podcast every week for us to review. Really, the goal is to put out an entertaining show that people enjoy and want to listen to. It's not to have Twitter wars or to have these battles with iTunes or our hosting company about getting taken down and going to court. And that's the shit I don't care for at all. And honestly, I'm just happy being under the radar. It'd be great if no one who, you know, does a show, listens to our show. However, this intrigues me.
Starting point is 00:52:18 The fact that these people are putting bounties on people's heads because they said something bad about their show. I agree. These people need the W-A something bad about their show. You're all in. I agree. These people need the W ATP treatment. This sounds like fun. I can only imagine if I can give you some feedback from, from somebody who has been reviewed. Yes.
Starting point is 00:52:35 So I asked you to tag me, you know, and the way I look at it is if you don't tag the person that you're talking about, then it's kind of like a pussy way out. You're, you're talking shit about them it's kind of like a pussy way out. You're talking shit about them, but not giving them a lot of people probably don't even know that you've reviewed their show. Right. And it would be much better if you were to just say, this week we tag, we review whatever.
Starting point is 00:52:57 And if they wanna hear it, they can hear it. But at least they have the opportunity then to know that they're being reviewed. Yeah, but I think that when you do that, you're also trying to get their listeners to listen to your show too. And if you're going out there and putting yourself out there and saying, Hey, we listen to your show, you suck, fuck you. You're bringing on a lot more than what I'm trying to bring onto the show.
Starting point is 00:53:21 I'm literally just trying to entertain the people who enjoy our show, not to get all the fans and friends of all the other shows out there to hate us. Cause that's not working out real well for me. Hahaha. By 78 one-star reviews. It's not working out all that well. So yeah, I hear what you're saying.
Starting point is 00:53:40 I mean, when when open Anthony used to do the, Joctober, their fans would go on the Facebook pages of these other shows and just put up the most ridiculous shit that they'd have to take the Facebook page down because it was so offensive. And that, you know, it was kind of them doing that without them actually doing that. They didn't tell people to do it, but they knew they would. And that's where it kind of gets a little bit aggressive.
Starting point is 00:54:05 I'm not trying to be aggressive with the show. We're really just trying to have it off. And I'm probably wrong in this, but I don't view the people that listen to your show as people that would actively go out and harass the people that you're reviewing. And that's not the style of the show. Maybe my mother-in-law, but most of the people who listen to
Starting point is 00:54:25 show are nice people who would not do that. I agree with you. Well, Doug, I want to thank you for joining me again. And you know, the next time we do this, I'm going to pick a show that's not so long and awful. And pick one that's good. Well, I can't promise that. That I can't promise, but it won't be as awful. It's funny. I I I messaged Doug last weekend I said hey, love to have you back on the show
Starting point is 00:54:51 Here's the podcast we're reviewing. I didn't even look at the length of it until after I set the tax and then I go online I'm like fuck it's a two hour long show and dry made you listen to a three hour long show the last time For my co-host you've only done this show twice. I think you've listened to more hours of bad podcasts and everyone combined. I urge people to, one that we just did, I actually sent the link to several of my friends that listened to podcasts and asked them to do it. Just send me back the time how far you made it. That's all I want to know. I just want to know how far you made it in. Far the furthest or the longest anybody made it in six minutes. Holy shit. That doesn't surprise me.
Starting point is 00:55:34 And you know what? It's not as if something happened after the six minute mark that all well, you know what, you kind of missed the point because then this happened. No, six minutes. It's fine. You've gotten the gist of it by then. We didn't have to listen to all two hours of this fucking show. So I would ask that everybody that the four yeah, who's that are on this show head over to who's right podcast.com and do a review on our show. I would be more happy to listen to that. That would be fun. Maybe they can play your guys theme song as a video game music bed. We talk a lot about sex and stuff like that, so I'm sure they couldn't relate. Well, you guys also talk about peeing into buttholes, which I do not think has anything to do with sex.
