T.P. Welcome to a very special bonus edition of where these podcasts I just got back from New York City for people hoping to hear the New York City show
That's not going to happen today unfortunately
We might be able to pull it together, but let me explain what happened.
If you don't care about that, don't listen to this episode.
I just want to explain what happened,
just to get it out there.
I'm not gonna make excuses.
It's all my fault.
I totally fucked up.
I'm an idiot.
I need to do better.
I'm so disappointed with myself.
The show overall, even though it was a failure
for the first 20 minutes,
ended up being fantastic. Everyone I taught to who was there had a shitload of fun. I had a ton of
fun. Anthony Cumie brought it. You know, we had Brian Johnson and Eric Nagel and the whole crew
crows Andy producer Chris. I can't think enough. Jenny Jingo's Vinnie Paulino, everyone did such a great job.
And what happened was, I started having a computer issue
about, well, where did we go from Detroit?
Something with my audio jack.
Now, I run my entire show off of my computer.
It has my sound board, it has all my video clips,
it has all the software that I use to run the show.
I'm not gonna get through all the minutia of it,
but just let me explain that this show is 10% me, 90% my computer. So I was having some issues with the audio
jack for whatever reason. Plugging in my headphones, it works perfect, but plugging anything
else into the audio jack I was having this weird I had to like push it into it in a certain
way and then pull it out a little bit and use an adapter and to get it to work. That's why I was late 20 minutes last weekend. So whatever. I was
like, I got to get this fix before New York City. I take it to a place called the Mac
shack. They put it in a brand new part in it at the same time. I went to Best Buy and
I bought another component that gives an audio jack out from the USB.
So I'm trying to cover all my bases.
I think I got this figured out.
It turns out because it seemed like very much a hardware issue.
It was not a hardware issue.
Because then when I got the computer back and I was even testing out the USB audio jack,
I was still having the same issues.
So it's a software thing.
Like what the fuck?
So I updated my operating system.
I got all new software on there,
and I got it to work and it was working.
And I said, okay, good, this is working.
Great.
Go to New York, spend all day prepping for the show.
I'm pulling together tons of audio and video clips.
I'm getting them from Vinnie and Kroge and Andy and Jen.
Everyone's contributing all of this stuff.
I'm putting it all on my computer.
We take it to city winery. We sound check, it's working, it sounds great, it's gonna be amazing.
I made sure that everything was recording perfectly, so it wouldn't sound like shit.
And it did. Everything was great.
So then we go in the green room, we have some dinner, and it's time for the showtime.
I come out not working.
Not working. It was just working.
Now it's not working.
Why is that? Why does technology hate me?
I don't know. It doesn't make any fucking sense and I'm sure someone's gonna be listening to this and understand why that happens
I don't. If it is working, I don't touch anything and then it's not working. That to me does not compute.
It doesn't make any fucking sense to me. Anyway, the point is
South working. So I'm running Streamyard here. so now I'm on Discord, so I'm streaming the show to Streamyard
and Discord while also running the show, all of the audio, all of the video, and recording
the show to my computer.
All of this is happening on this one machine that I is pretty crucial to the whole operation.
So beginning of the show, it fucks up.
I decided to reboot.
We were gonna do a dabble battle at the end.
Missy B had this awesome idea.
People come up and do their Southern John impressions,
and we came up with lines for them to say,
and we had this awesome competition going on.
So I said, okay, I don't need the computer for that.
Missy B, you do the dabble battle, and I'll troubleshoot this.
So I restarted the computer, I tried it out.
Still not working, I restarted it again. Got again got everything fired up started working. Yes. All right
Let's go time to do the show boom nope nothing
So I'm at a point now where I can't play any clips. We can't react anything
I'm sitting next to Anthony Cumia and and missy and Vinny and producer Chris on the stage and there's nothing to talk about
You know and God bless those guys. Thank God Anthony is such a pro that he had people laughing.
I wasn't paying attention.
I'm trying to chop some of my computer.
I see the room erupting and laughter
because he's just doing whatever impression.
And it is killing it.
So then I say, okay, I have to run this show off a computer.
Producer Chris has his computer.
Give me your computer.
I've never used his computer before for anything.
And I get his computer. I get all my files. I load them onto his computer. I've never used his computer before for anything and I get his computer
I get all my files. I load them on his computer. I plug that in now that
Break stream yard and discord because I had all of the audio coming in from the sound guy in my computer to go to
Streamyard and discord so that is gone and there's no way to reconnect that that would have been a whole other thing
That would have been a 30 minute so that would have been a 30 minute.
So, I don't even get started.
I'm a sound checker this place.
So anyway, so that would have been a whole other thing.
So there's no way to do that.
Whatever, it's a live show.
We got to make this happen for the live show.
So I was literally downloading software
on the Chris's computer that I needed
while pulling up clips, trying to figure everything out
so people could see the videos,
as I'm starting the show and playing videos,
I'm logging into my email so that I could get software
downloaded and get into my stream yard account,
and there's just a million things going on
as I'm trying to do this.
Now, I'm not saying that it was impressive by any means
that it was a total fuck up and every single way,
but the fact that I was able to do a show off
of someone else's machine, when my machine is 90%
of the show was something.
It was something, all right, it wasn't great,
but it was something.
It was, I think someone made the analogy,
it was literally that dream you have
where you show up to school with no clothes
on. I mean, I was just like, holy shit, I'm here up on stage and I have nothing. I can't do
anything. Once I got Chris's machine, I got all my files on there and I've got the software
I needed and I got back on. We got StreamYard going. There was no audio because the audio wasn't
connected, but we got StreamYard going and I was able to do the live show and people could
hear it and see it. and everyone was loving it.
We did a Centering John segment followed by an O.P. segment that was epic with Anthony.
We did Patrick Michael segment after that.
We came back to some best of Centering John stuff.
What else did we do?
We did to catch a dabbleer.
Cardiff got us again.
He's constantly stumping us us again, he's constantly
Stomping us with these these been doing a great job if that's what he's trying to do. I don't fucking know
We didn't get to Q&A. We ran out of time
We did have net news with Lucy type box live on stage reading the net news
So oh and all and I talked to a lot of people at the show, we were hanging out, and I got nothing
of positive feedback, so I really appreciate that,
even if people were just being nice,
but it seemed like people genuinely had a good time,
and I definitely had a good time.
It was crazy to how horrible everything went, obviously,
to have my computer failing.
Again, this is my fault.
I should have bought a new computer this week. I thought about it, I'm my fault. I should have bought a new computer this week.
I thought about it.
I'm like, maybe I should just get a new computer.
I have other computers.
I could have loaded up another computer
and had that as a backup and had that ready to go.
Maybe my setup is too complex to fucking be good with.
I need to rethink everything that I'm doing.
And I hear everyone loud and clear,
this is insane that I can't just run a live show.
I did it in Chicago, I did it in Nashville, no problem.
And these last two outings have just been fuck ups.
And it's 100% on me.
I'm the one who runs the show, I'm the one who plans everything.
And I'm not doing either of those things well.
So I need to get better and do better.
So that's my explanation.
I know people are annoyed with me.
And people on Patreon want to watch the live stream are extremely annoyed with me. I would be too. I am too. I know people are annoyed with me and people on Patreon want to watch the livestream are
Extremely annoyed with me. I would be too. I am too. I get it. I'm sorry. I fucked up
If it makes you feel any better. I know it won't no one feels worse about this than I do
I never want this to happen ever again this fucking blows and I really appreciate everyone's support
Because of you guys the listeners. I've turned my hobby into my full-time job and that's you know, everyone's dream come true
I couldn't be happier about it and I feel so disappointed when I got people down and when I fuck up
So I just want to say this is all just out the top of my head
Not gonna happen to can't why so that after to try it all right fuck that I'm not gonna say it's not gonna happen again
What do I know I'll find new ways to fuck up. I'll find new innovative ways to fuck up.
Thank you everyone who came to New York
and I did see some comments coming in.
People had a blast and I do appreciate that.
I'm so glad people who came came.
The live shows are something different entirely.
People bitch about the live shows.
I got it.
I don't like podcasts when they're alive
as much as I like them when they're in studio.
So I understand that, but being there is really a lot of fun and we had a lot of fun.
City winery again is great to us.
I showed up in my dark brand insured.
I bought the Suttering John dark brand insured and that was kind of funny how a lot of compliments
coming from the staff at the city library.
I might show it like, oh, I don't think you understand why I wear this, but okay cool
I mean trust me in man hat and I'm not getting any guff from anybody for wearing that shirt
So it was fine, but anyway
Everyone is reached out and want to help me with my audio issues. I might take you up on it
I got to get a new computer. I'm gonna buy a new computer
I'm gonna fucking rethink everything that I do because I'm so annoyed that this happened.
I can't believe it'll let this happen.
I, you know, at a certain point,
because I got everything working
and I started thinking, it's gonna work.
I just needed to work for New York City.
It's just gotta work this one time.
Why would I think that?
Why would I possibly think that was gonna happen?
All right, well listen, I feel like this is like that
very special episode I did after Marissa tried to ruin going on. I'm just going to be able to
get the idea of what's going on.
I'm just going to be able to
get the idea of what's going on.
I'm just going to be able to
get the idea of what's going on.
I'm just going to be able to
get the idea of what's going on.
I'm just going to be able to
get the idea of what's going on.
I'm just going to be able to get the idea of what's going on. room recording from producer Chris's zoom. I know, I know.
Not the best. I think the audio engineer at the show was recording. I've reached out to the city winery to see if they have a file that I can grab. That would be nice to be amazing
if they recorded off the board. He said he was going to record it. I go, oh, great. I assume
to be off the board, but who knows, but that would be cool. I could mix that and make a good sounding show.
Because when I was recording the show at first
before my computer failed, I went back, listen to that,
I'm like, oh, this sounds amazing.
This would have been perfect.
But, oh wow.
All right, I think that's enough out of me.
Who's stupid fucking blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Yes, I agree.
Okay, folks, guess what?
The episode's over!
I gotta go. Goodbye. Goodbye!
