Starting point is 00:00:00 The detectives never found Misty's remains and they have not been able to tie those genes or any evidence to any suspect. In September of 1992, 14-year-old Misty Copsey leaves the Washington State Fair with her best friend. Misty is never seen again. Part of the problem was habeas corpus, right? There's no body. They have never found her.
Starting point is 00:00:28 And so it's a story without an ending. Five months after Misty's disappearance, investigators find a pair of jeans crumpled up along the side of an isolated stretch of highway in the woods of Washington, squarely in the dumping grounds of the second most prolific serial killer in American history,
Starting point is 00:00:48 the Green River Killer. This area was sort of a shark tank for predators, not just the Green River Killer, but others. There's a number of people that were at work in this area during that timeframe that could have done this. And the biggest challenge with this case is that we don't have Misty. Western Washington was a veritable killing field for young women.
Starting point is 00:01:15 I'm Sarah Kalin, an investigator who specializes in cold cases and serial killers, and I'm determined to find out what happened to Misty Copsey. That's the biggest case in Puyallup. A 14-year-old just disappears, never seen again. That's a serious case. If you profile it, this was someone that knew her. Did he give her a ride? We do not know. Did he tell the cops, I drove up to an area that is not that far from where these genes were discovered.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Yes, he did. To me, there's no one who was floated as a suspect that we could absolutely rule out. All in the pursuit of answers to the question, who took Misty Copsie? I don't ever want to rehash the feeling of being with her at the very last time and not knowing it was going to be the last. How? Why? What happened to her?
Starting point is 00:02:15 Listen to Who Took Misty Copsie wherever you get your podcasts.
