Starting point is 00:00:08 Welcome to Who Knew with Matt Stewart, the show where the guest write the wrong answers. I'm the titular Matt Stewart. Our first guest was voted Best Stand Up in the Chicago Reader three years in a row. It's first time guest, Deanna Ortiz. Who told you that? How did you find that out about me? I found it on the online. Oh, pretty interesting.
Starting point is 00:00:28 I mean, I depict there were many different credits and accolades. Yeah. That is a strong one. One of Timeouts, 10 comedians to watch? In 2025. In 2025. That's still pretty fresh. But not top 10 comedians to listen to on a podcast.
Starting point is 00:00:45 No. But you also got an album out. So if they do want to listen to you, you can do it that way. We actually sort of met working on the same project separately, this hatch sleep program. I did a show about history to fall asleep too. And Deanna did one about crime to fall asleep too. I still listen to your up. episodes. I got a, I had, they gave me a hatch and I like listen to a history and then I
Starting point is 00:01:13 listened to my own voice to fall asleep. Oh, that's perfect. But the history is great. I was actually, I listened to a couple of our episodes last on. It is, it is a good way to go to sleep. Here and I'm about, you think crime? And I'm like, that's not going to be good. Yeah, it might keep you up. But it was pretty low key crime. It was like, um, Martha Stewart, uh, going to jail. Yeah. Yeah. No, no murder, no scary. Yeah. It was all just like bank robbing. and heists and stuff like that. I did one, can never be one.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Yeah. They should be able to rob a bank. Let them try. Yes. They're good news stories in a lot of ways. Our second guest this week is Australia's premier farm-based comedian, as she always says,
Starting point is 00:01:56 Farmy is funny. It's Raywin Pickering. Thank you. Farmy is funny. Yeah. Well, that's why you always say it. It'll be on my headstone. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:08 I guess. Okay. We'll get the order in early. So no one take it. Yeah. And finally we have Perth's finest. The editor of this very show, it's Connor Schmidt. Hello, in person.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Live in the studio. Yeah, very exciting. So good. I could reach out in touch if I wanted to. Okay. And it turns out. Because where do you normally live? Perth, so the other side of the country.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Okay. I was going to fly in from Chicago, but... Whoa. Slightly. In this economy? Yeah. All right. So the way the show works is ask a relatively obscure trivia question
Starting point is 00:02:46 and our contestants have to write a convincing fake answer. I then read their answers well as a real one and they have to guess which one is correct. And the first question comes from listener Connor Tyrell from Dublin in Ireland. And the question is, what does the term alpha Kevin mean? Whoa. Alpha Kevin. So while you're writing your definitions of Alpha Kevin, I'll let the listeners know how the scoring works.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Guests get one point if their fake answer is guessed by one of the other contestants and another point if they correctly guessed the answer. By the way, I'm also playing as The House. And I've put it into my own fake answers for each question with the help of the question writer. And we get to a point for each one of those that I guess choose. So each of us can go up to three points per round, which seems fair. But the probability actually favours me, the House. quite a mathematician listener anyway
Starting point is 00:03:38 I never really fact-checked that to be honest the house always wins though due to this though if you've listened to previous episodes you know that is an absolute lie mainly because to even things out the guests get triple points in the final round anyway most of our questions come from our great patron supporters if you want to submit a question
Starting point is 00:03:56 sign up on any level by patreon.com slash dugorn pod linked in the show notes all right the answer in here is question number one what does the term alpha Kevin mean It's the person with the biggest sausage at a barbecue. It's the nickname for the alpha of the group of boys who get stranded, Lord of the Fly's style. It's an actor who uses his natural accent,
Starting point is 00:04:21 even when the role clearly calls for a different one, coined for Kevin Costner after he played Robin Hood as an American. Which is a foreign slang for a particularly unintelligent young person. You've got a sheep that submits to all other sheep in the flock Is referred to as an alpha Kevin Apparently originating from a feud between two shepherds One of which was named Kevin Well finally, Victorian street slang for a cheap carriage
Starting point is 00:04:50 That has been rebadged with a more expensive brand Yeah, right Wait, can you repeat the last one? Victorian street slang for a cheap carriage It gets like a horse and car Yeah, yeah. That has been rebadged with a more expensive brand. Someone's born like a home brand carriage and put a Porsche label on it.
Starting point is 00:05:10 And then they're, they are an alpha Kevin because they did. The carriage is an alpha. Yeah. So I think it's like, we know what you're doing there. Yeah. Nice try alpha Kevin. I don't know. I mean, I can explain all of these if you like.
Starting point is 00:05:24 I'm sure. The funnest part of this show for me is someone asking me to explain something that I, Just saying for the first time I know absolutely nothing about it. Yes, yes, yes. I think what's happening here. All right, Deanna, what do you think? I love all of them.
Starting point is 00:05:42 My heart is going towards the person with the biggest sausage at the party. I like how it's a person. It could be a man or woman or child. Yeah, that's true. Anyone can be a Kevin. That's true. That's kind of sweet. It looks like Johnny's alpha Kevin this one.
Starting point is 00:06:01 He gets extra onions. Oh, I like you little, you little alpha, Kevin. Yeah. He's so chubby how chuffe is. And it gives a real power to the guy handing out the sausages. Oh, yeah. He gets to be alpha Kevin. He's God deciding to be Alfa Kevin.
Starting point is 00:06:19 That's right. So you got to lock that one in? I'm going to lock it in, please. Awesome. Raywin, what do you reckon? Well, look, naturally, I gravitate towards a sheep one. but I have never heard of it, so I know. Oh, right.
Starting point is 00:06:34 I mean, unless it is an obscure, was that the German? No. It was after two feuding shepherds. Yeah, it doesn't say where. Well, the question. It might have from Switzerland, but it doesn't say that. But Switzerland notoriously doesn't feud. Oh, that's true.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Out of all the countries, man. Not externally. Maybe internally. Internally, there's a lot of drama. There's so much strife internally. Question writer was Irish, right? Question writer was Irish, that makes sense. So in my mind, it went to Irish shepherds.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Yeah, and I assume Irish sausages as well. Irish stranded boys. So you're ruling out sheep? How much you know about Irish sheep? Yeah, the Irish sheep. Well, it would have had to have been a famous few. between shepherds, which I like that idea.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Just a couple, yeah, that it's entered into the vernacular that everyone knows about this. Yeah, Al-Fashire. This fucking Kevin, yeah. Um, uh, It's real,
Starting point is 00:07:48 just before you make a scene, I just want to remind you, this is really important. I don't want to, look. Oh my God. Hey, I'm on your side. Take your time.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Yeah. Way out your option. Maybe I'll go the carriage one. Carriage, okay. But if it's that fucking sheep one, I know I'm going to lose respect. You'll lose respect, but you'll gain a new anecdote to work next time. Yeah. Next time you're at the day job.
Starting point is 00:08:19 I'm chatting to the girls to the flock. Yeah. Years will never believe it. That was very good. Oh, no, it wasn't. That was awful. I was really hoping I was going to skate through unnoticed. It's all right.
Starting point is 00:08:33 I'll boost it in there. Connor, what do you reckon? Like you, I immediately went for the Shepherds as well because I love the idea of it being a feud. Yeah. And it's just become so famous.
Starting point is 00:08:43 But then you said the Kevin Costa one. And that is, that feels like something that people get so angry at that latch onto it and out of spite for that one singular performance and also because I'm going to go with Alpha Kevin. And also, there's just something fun about them going,
Starting point is 00:08:57 I know it's not right, but fuck it. That's real. That is pretty alpha. It's pretty good. Robin Hood's American now, okay? Yeah. It still happens as well. Like, the Odyssey later this year,
Starting point is 00:09:07 everyone's using the natural accent. Which is like... Which I also don't mind because... I don't care because what, yeah, what was the accent meant to be? How we're supposed to know? And it's the same, Robin Hood would have spoken in words that we would not understand
Starting point is 00:09:19 because it was like ye oldy times. You know what I mean? I can't. Who gives us shit? I can't understand. There were no cameras back then either. Anyway. Where do you draw the line?
Starting point is 00:09:29 Oh, it's a beautiful question. Unfortunately, we don't have time to answer it. I'm going to explore. But here is who wrote the answers. Now, the one about shape, which Connor was apparently nearly going to go for, even after everyone had locked their answers in, that was Connor. Still playing the game. Almost had you.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Yeah. I was putting the hooks in. Maybe it's Irish ship. Maybe you wouldn't have heard of this because it's in Ireland. I was really trying to. I'm coming out swinging. Okay, if that's the game we're playing I'm not gonna trust anything you said
Starting point is 00:10:01 I'll immediately change tact because I've lost faith now because I didn't get it. Now the one about the stranded boys that was Deanna. Yeah, guess what movie I was watching before I jumped on? Lord of the Flies.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Raywin went for the one about the cheap carriage. I'm afraid that was the house which made it easier for me to explain because that's what I was thinking in my head. Um, okay. Connor also went for a house one,
Starting point is 00:10:30 the Robin Hood, Kevin Costum one, I'm afraid. Uh, Bugga. Uh, Deanna went for the one about the biggest sausage at the barbecue. That was Raywin.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Yeah. Oh. No. I got a point. Was that in your head because of the earlier, the pre-show fairy bread chat? That feels like a very barbecue adjacent sort of dessert. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Yeah. A sausage is dessert? Uh, or you can have a dessert. A dessert. Absolutely. I know, I think that.
Starting point is 00:10:56 The sausage is the main course. The fairy bread's dessert. Got it. I see. You have a sausage in bread, then you have sprinkles on bread. Yeah, yeah. It's all bread-based. Real carb-heavy.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Bread and cheese to start. Entres. A beautiful culture. I love it. I love learning about it. And that means no one went anywhere near considering the real answer. German slang for a particularly unintelligent young person. It's a second German-based term, which included the word Kevin.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Oh. The second? There was one, oh, well, you weren't here for it. Oh. A little while back. Talking about on the previous episode. This is question one, Raywin. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:34 I should have had an advantage then. It was from a previous episode of this show. Well, because I mean, I don't remember anything. I discounted that in my head because I was like, well, Kevin's. Yeah. So, that's stupid. Kevin's not a German name. That's right.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Kevin's were really big in the 90s, American Kevin. Kevin Costner, Kevin in Home Alone and stuff. So it became like a buzzword. in America in Germany I remember I remember this question now real alpha Kevin
Starting point is 00:12:02 he's a real little fucking Kevin this guy I think that's got something to do with that but it was actually pretty recent it really rose the prominence in 2015 I don't know how to do a German accent
Starting point is 00:12:12 but it would sound crazy coming out of like that type of yeah oh it starts with Alpha Kemp that was Swedish that was very Swedish very Swedish
Starting point is 00:12:24 she'll take that My last name is German, but I could not ever possibly do a German accent. Al-Qa-Nine. Unfor-Given. You're getting there. You're getting there. Yeah. You're in Europe.
Starting point is 00:12:40 You're in Europe. Yeah. All right. We are over in Europe, actually, with the next question. It comes from Dan Faulkner from Ramsgate in the UK. And Dan's question, basically, Dan just wants you to come up with a fake species of fish. Now, Downey, you don't have to describe it or anything. You just got to give us the name. The common name, doesn't have to be the Latin name, a common name of a species of fish.
Starting point is 00:13:06 And while you're coming up with those answers, I'll tell the listeners a bit more about Alpha Kevin. This from Wiki, the word Alpha Kevin, helpfully, Wikipedia says a combination of alpha male and the given name Kevin. That is helpful, thank you. The word is representative of a particularly unintelligent young person, and it was the subject of a 2015 online poll for the German word of the year, and particularly the youth word of the year. However, it was struck from the list of suggestions on account of being discriminatory towards people bearing the name Kevin. Oh, that's thoughtful, I suppose. It is discriminatory. Yeah. I tell you what, it sounds like Germany is a bit of a woke nanny state, you know? Okay, glad we've got you on the
Starting point is 00:13:52 record say that. Seriously, Germany, you know, we're living in Trump's America now. We don't worry about Kevin's feelings. We do have two white men in a podcast studio, so we should start talking about workness. Well, we did. It's happened already. All right. So the answer to question number two, which of these are real species of fish?
Starting point is 00:14:14 Splashy Douglas. Oh. Carpenter's flasher rash. Creamy spotted Blenny. The red-breasted sponge sucker Hurried gulping-gulper Or river hamster Okay Ray, when your turn to go first
Starting point is 00:14:34 Splashy Douglas Carpenter's flasher ass Creamy spotted Blenny Red-breasted sponge sucker Hurried gulping gulper or river hamster Well Um Um
Starting point is 00:14:48 I'm between the hurried gulp and golper and the Splashy Douglas. Those are to my two favorites. I like how Douglas is. That's a funny one. Let's do that. Even if it's not. As soon as you said Douglas,
Starting point is 00:15:04 I'm like, yep, Douglas. That's a good fish name. Awesome. All right. Locked in Douglas. Connor. I loved Douglas. As soon as you said Douglas,
Starting point is 00:15:12 I thought that was it. But then River hamster. Yeah. I love the idea of a guy seeing a fish being like, that looks like a hamster. Yeah. And we're in a river. So are we locking it in?
Starting point is 00:15:25 Douglas Hamster. Douglas Hamster, beautiful name. If anyone's writing any fiction at the moment, I reckon that's a name up for grabs for a lead character. Douglas Hamster. Hamster. You got a hamster? Lock it in.
Starting point is 00:15:42 All right. A couple hamsters. Oh no, one hamster, one Douglas. And Deanna, what are you thinking? Douglas Bean. What was the carpenter one? It was like the second one. Carpenter's flasher ras.
Starting point is 00:15:53 Flasher ras. And then there was a creamy. Creamy spotted blenny. That one sounds legit. It also sounds like a dessert in London. It really does. I think I'm going to go with the carpenter, the second one. Carpenter.
Starting point is 00:16:09 All right, locked in. Could be that because you're a big fan of the, I could tell you about a carpenter joke. And maybe the listener has gone, I'm at all appreciate this. I do. I do love, well, actually, I also, you know, the cliched,
Starting point is 00:16:21 cool Christian counselor. Yeah. No, I don't know but yeah, yeah. That's pretty cool. Did that bit make it over to America? Yeah, you can believe that.
Starting point is 00:16:34 I'm sure we came up with it. All you got to do is turn your hat backwards and like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Let me, I'm not like another, I'm a cool youth person. Let me wrap with you. All right, answers are locked in. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Very excited. Someone got it right. Let's go through it. Whoa. The creamy spotted blanny, which you said sounded like a British dessert. That was written by the British man, Dan, the questioner writer. So I think he might have been. Hungry.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Yeah. The red-breasted sponge sucker, it sounds like an Englishman eating a dessert. That was Raywin. The hurried gulp and gulp-a, still of another hungry person. That was kind of. Now. Almost had you again, Raywin. No.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Oh, my God. But I'm afraid, like the first round, Ray when moved on from your answer to the house. Splashy Douglas was one of mine. Connor went for River Hampster. That was Deanna. Oh. There's points on the show.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Come and go me. Another set of guests would have clapped that, but not these two ourselves. No, that's okay. Glad to give you the point. That's excellent work. No, I don't clap when I was on the board. It's the first time we were on like two years ago. You remember that?
Starting point is 00:17:49 Get a fucking laugh. What are you doing? I thought it was per episode. Come on. Okay. You get one clap one time and hold on to it for the last to life. You're not getting another one, Deanna. I don't think that you remember this.
Starting point is 00:18:06 That was pretty depressing round of applause that one. Okay. That means Deanna was also correct as the carpenter's flesh arrest. Wow. Multi points for Deanna. You don't get a clap for that one, though. Absolutely not. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:18:21 And they had a chance to make up for it, but they did not. Oh, no. Nothing, if not consistent. Yes. Wow. So I think after the first round, you got a point in the first round, didn't you, Connor? No. No, Raywin did.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Raymond, fucking hell, come on, man. Hell, yeah, dude. I could have gotten away with that. You were just going to claim it? I love that. I was going to say nothing at all. Yeah, I think all of us have a hundred points. Not that I think about it, if I had to go back and think.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Because if you say nothing, then you can't convict you of the crime. Oh, is that true? Yeah, I think so. So after two rounds, the scores are Connor yet to score. Ray went on one, Deanna on two, but out in front on three points. It's the house. Can I just say, looked it up. Carpenter's Flasherrass is beautiful.
Starting point is 00:19:04 It's kind of like a goldfish, but with these blue stripes. Oh, can I have it? Gorgeous. Oh, yeah. That's a hot fish. Yeah. And I guess, as I'm looking at it, probably wanted me to say it, like, let the R run into the. Lacheret.
Starting point is 00:19:18 So flash her ass? No. The carpenter's flasher ass. She flounder flashing her ass. I imagine. That carpenter's flash and rash. Flash her ass. Is that company a flasher ass?
Starting point is 00:19:31 That's so funny. All right. Question three comes from Beeksy Stevens. From W.A. Oh, do you know Beeksy? Well, no, I'm just aware of the... I mean, it's a memorable name. A prolific question writer on this show.
Starting point is 00:19:46 From W.A. But not from Perth. And when I put the quiz together, Conor wasn't going to be on it. So I don't know. You've got a bit of local knowledge, perhaps, here. Do you know much about South Bunbury and their local shopping strip? I'm going to Bunbury. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Is that the longest jetty or something? It's such a funny. How interesting WAA is. The longest jenny. On the bucket list it goes. I'll sit down and making a note in the... We actually, it was too long to walk out. We didn't bother.
Starting point is 00:20:17 I've wanted that, Jenny. They have a little train. on it that you can, yeah. We just, we look at it. Yeah. It's pretty cool. Yeah. It's like a kilometer out.
Starting point is 00:20:26 It's like a pier. And what's a kilometer? And what's a kilometer? I'm kidding. Huh? Oh, it's a pier. Okay. Deanna, don't be an ass. I mean, an arse.
Starting point is 00:20:39 So Beeksie's question is, what is the name of the florist in South Bumberry, Western Australia? Oh, Bexie. Basically, it's just like a, you know, they've tried to name. their florist a little bit quirky. What's their... You know, it's like... Something's...
Starting point is 00:20:54 Maybe the most famous ones are Thai restaurants will have... Walk right in. Yeah, yeah. Shirt and tour. You're ready to go. Oh, yeah. That is one.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Oh, is it really? Walk right in? Oh, my God. So that's the kind of vibe you're going for. Yeah. Weak wordplay. And it was a florist, sorry? A florist.
Starting point is 00:21:15 A florist. Yeah. Flower shop. Yes. Just in case, Deanna. pronounce those florists as like flow rice or something. Celery. No, I get it.
Starting point is 00:21:26 All right, well, they're writing their answers. I mean, I encourage listeners to look up a carpenter's flasher ass if they get a chance. But Dan writes that of these beautiful fish, during courtship rituals, the males can undergo spectacular color changes within seconds as they dash in and out of the rock work, displaying intense colors and flashing their elaborate fins to attract a female. Carpenter's flash a rass. All right, the answers are in for question number three. What is the name of the florist in South Bunbury?
Starting point is 00:22:02 Self-raising flowers. Florist Gump. Don't blame it on the bouquet. Bunberies anyone? Flowers for funerals. Dandy lion, no. What? Or gardenia up your ass.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Gardini up your ass. Gardini up your ass. Okay. Some real good solid stuff in here. Self-raising flowers. You should have been like buttercup your ass. Like why'd they go gardenia? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:41 They only read it after the song was done. They're like, shit. You should have been like buttercup your ass. in there punching it up for them. Out of all the flowers. Come on. Needed the second draft. All right, Connor.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Self-raising flowers. Floris Gump. Don't blame it on the bouquet. Bun berries anyone. Flowers for funerals. Dandy liar. No. Or gardenia.
Starting point is 00:23:03 Gardine yop your ass. Gardini yop your ass. It's so funny. Don't blame it on the bouquet. has a similar vibe to guard, we're all having trouble saying, garden you up your ass
Starting point is 00:23:24 where it's like that first pass, they're like, God, I have to name this something somewhat interesting. Don't blame it on the bouquet. Fuck, yeah, let's do it. Yeah. When I reckon normally, probably the option is just going, let's call it,
Starting point is 00:23:38 Bumbrey flowers. Mix flower shop. There's a new cafe around the corner from here that's called simply mics, which I think is, I don't know, there's someone so funny about it to me, that it felt like that was, they're in the,
Starting point is 00:23:55 that workshopping ideas. What have we just called it simply mics? It's your cafe and someone misunderstood. Let's just keep it simple. Yeah. All right, so you're going, don't blame it on the bouquet, Connor. Please. Deanna, what do you reckon? I,
Starting point is 00:24:09 I like the one that says flowers for funerals. Because I think that would be really funny in the name of the title to make. Also, it's for funerals. We only do flowers for funerals. Just to be clear. If you want weddings, go down the street. You're coming in asking for flowers for a spouse of birthday, we will fucking beat the shit out of you.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Yeah, I mean, you're going to have them, but it would be a bad omen. You come in asking for flowers of that, these flowers are going, Gardea nip your ass. We're going to get it by the end. Ray, what do you reckon? Can I just have them really quickly?
Starting point is 00:24:45 Self-raising flowers. Flores Gump. Don't blame it on the bouquet. Bun Berries anyone, flowers for funerals. Dandelio, no. Or gardenia up your ass. Um, I think I like self-raising flowers. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:05 Maybe that's the only one that would be okay. I don't know. I probably wouldn't be called my business any of this. No. No. All right, locked in. Okay, yeah. Here's who wrote the answers.
Starting point is 00:25:19 We can get some help with the pronunciation of Gardena up your ass. That was Connor. You gave me pronunciation and help, which made it harder. Because you've got a Y in there. And the Y is, is it meant to be attached to the N or the U? It's a Y sound in Gardinia, isn't it? Gardinia. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:41 So Gardini up your ass. So if you put a space between. between Gardein and Yop. Oh, okay, sure. If you're gonna, just for, if I'm gonna do any more Gardinia based pun, you know, pronunciation advice,
Starting point is 00:25:53 maybe just space out the letters a little. Really great getting pronunciation advice from you. Yeah, and especially when you said pronunciation. Just the basics there, kind of to be honest. Dandy lie, oh no, hopefully I got that pronunciation right.
Starting point is 00:26:08 That was Diana. That's good stuff. Tell. I like that a lot. Once you said, oh, I spelled it N-A-U-R, And then I was like, fuck, I just should have had him say no. Because that gave my hand pretty clearly.
Starting point is 00:26:22 And it's hard to get out of my head once it's pointed out to my up. But I guess I would say it naturally like dandy lie. Dandy lie. Oh no. No. Dandel lie, oh no. Dandy lie or no? Dandy lie, oh no.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Beautiful. A beautiful name for a business. It's a thinker. Yeah. Stunning. Stunning. It's on par with simply mics. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:51 Bun berries, anyone. Flowers for funerals. The animal, for that was Raywin. I loved it. Yeah. I loved it. Do you have any law behind that?
Starting point is 00:27:01 Why are we for funeral? I don't know why you said it as a question mark, though. Like, there was no question mark. You were like bun berries, anyone? Yeah, it's just bun berries anyone. Oh, right. Yep. It's a statement.
Starting point is 00:27:13 Yeah. It's so long because it's for a funeral. It's for funerals. Bum buries anyone. Flowers for funerals. You know why I got it wrong? Because I didn't connect the Bunbury bit until the last second pass. But anyway, whatever I did got convinced Deanna.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Yeah. You got a little assist there. Yeah. Thank you. Don't blame it on the bouquet, Connor. I'm afraid that was the head. I've gone for a house answer every time. Ray, we went for self-raising flowers.
Starting point is 00:27:48 I'm afraid that was Beeksie. Oh. Also the house. So Florist Gump is the winner? Yeah, potentially the worst of all of a florist gump. Love it. I mean, to have, if you give it any sort of, any sort of explanation, it's on a forest street.
Starting point is 00:28:09 Oh. But I just think that makes it more confusing. It doesn't help. So two points for the house And one point for Ray When that round As we hit the halfway mark We got question number four
Starting point is 00:28:24 From Penny Privet from here in Melbourne The question is What defense tactic Does the Japanese water scavenger beetle Utilize against predators? What defense tactic Does the Japanese water scavenger beetle utilize against predators?
Starting point is 00:28:39 This is a fun question And while you're writing your answers Here's a little bit more info about that. Florist, according to their website. At Flores Gump, weddings are our specialities. You weren't quite right. Weddings, anyone?
Starting point is 00:28:54 Weddings, anyone. I think, well, yeah, the Australian accent also supposedly naturally puts upward inflections. So apologies for that, Ray. You weren't to know that I was going to do that. weddings are our speciality with over a thousand brides in the past seven years we have gained intense knowledge and have learned that the idea to a perfect wedding is to not overcomplicate
Starting point is 00:29:21 something so beautiful it's a great great bit of work there hopefully someone in bumberies listening and they can get it snap out the front of that place sometime soon anyway while they're still writing their answers let's go for a quick break we're back the answer is for Question number four, what defense tactic does the Japanese water scavenger beetle utilize against predators? To scare of predators, they begin an elaborate string of flaunting musical movements that have been compared to a man playing guitar for an uninterested woman. Oh.
Starting point is 00:29:59 Been there. Different to an interested woman. Been there as well on the other side, shamefully. The Japanese toxic scavenger beetle. Option two, it can make a noise so high-pitched, it can make certain predators explode. Whoa. Oh, that's pretty sick. That's so sick.
Starting point is 00:30:22 That's actually really sick. Oh, my God. That's badass. Option three, it can detach barbs on its feet, shooting out like Spider-Man casting a web. Option four, when eaten by a frog, it crawls through the intestines and escapes out the bum. Option five, it inflates an air bubble under its wings and flies away. Or finally, it shits itself and plays dead to appear as unappealing as possible. All right.
Starting point is 00:30:53 Deanna, we're back to you. So you've got the playing guitar. Playing guitar for an uninterested woman. You've got the high-pitched noise that makes predators explode. You've got barbed wires on the feet that can be shot like Spider-Man webs. You've got escaping out the ass or ass. You've got air bubble under its wings or you've got playing dead and shitting itself. I'm torn between playing dead and shitting itself or having the predators explode with a high-pitched noise.
Starting point is 00:31:27 And I think I'm going to do play dead and shoot yourself. Finally answer. Thank you. And thank you for asking. I was really touching that you would ask me such. Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. Ray one.
Starting point is 00:31:45 I liked the bubbles under the wings, or it was like air bubbles under the wings. I feel like I've heard of that. So lock it in. Vague memory means. I'll bet everything. Connor, what do you reckon? I also think.
Starting point is 00:32:09 it's the shit itself and play dead. I hate to double up. But I feel like that was the only one really that seemed like it would be logical. Like a thing that... You're related to it. Yeah. When you're making your way through Northbridge
Starting point is 00:32:25 late on a Saturday night. Wow, fantastic local reference for me, Matt. I appreciate that. Just for you and... Beeksy. You and Beeksy. Let's have a drink, Beeksy. And Bunbury next time I'm down.
Starting point is 00:32:37 Um, um, am, um, mum, mum, mum, mum. Yeah, I think that's the only one that really jumped out at me as like a who knew it style submission question. Yeah. Yep. All right. You don't reckon that, um, that, uh, you know, making things explode or shooting barbs like Spider-Man. You don't think they're noteworthy? The people that listen to the show are all fucking gruts.
Starting point is 00:33:04 Yeah, grubs, yep. Grubbs and grubs. All right. Here's the right the answers. The one where it looks like they're playing guitar for an uninterested woman. Right, what do you know? Hey, Connor.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I did like the visuals. It just came to me as well. It just, you know. It'll be like, give me a second. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, the tune is little. Sorry, I just got to.
Starting point is 00:33:30 And I just got it. I just going to be worth it. Don't worry. I promise this is going to. Making their predators explode with the high-pitched noise. That was Penny, the question writer. Shooting barbs from their feet like Spider-Man. That was Raywin Pickering.
Starting point is 00:33:50 The air bubble under its wings. That was Deanna. Oh. I kind of figured like an opposite Mary Poppins would just be like, could be fun and silly. That's actually the other name for the Japanese water scale. Avenger beetle. It's the opposite Mary Poppins beetle.
Starting point is 00:34:12 Deanna and Connor went for shooting itself. I'm afraid that was the house. I also wrote one on you. Oh my God. And that means no one got the right answer, but it was in the wrong regions. They crawl out the ass. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:34:27 Or I think he said the bum. Yeah, Penny wrote it as bum. Well, that's why I kind of didn't. I was like, oh, that's someone riding it. Yeah. I just counted that because what was the, of the question. It was what defense technique does it use
Starting point is 00:34:40 when it's being attacked or threatened or something? No, no, you've extrapolated it. It just says, and then, what defense tactic does it use against predators? The predator is the frog. Yeah, well, against predators made it seem like
Starting point is 00:34:52 it was going to be like a general thing that it always does when it's being attacked. No one is just being eaten by a frog. All right. But it's fine. I'm not going to, you know, I'm not. But it's just a game. I'm having a good time.
Starting point is 00:35:01 It's fine. But I do agree with you. Thanks, Gina. I actually want to lose. I want to finish with zero points. It's fine. You say that three quarters into the game. Just in defensive penny, I did sort of rewrite that a bit.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Her version of it probably didn't have that issue. Sure, okay. Just so it doesn't say like Connor's just shitting on our supporters. Instead, we're shooting on you. Yes. And pretending to be dead. Wait, you just meant to shit on yourself. But that tactic would work.
Starting point is 00:35:32 I would certainly run away. Oh, yeah, yeah. All right. Penultimate questions, three different people sent it in. That's how good it is. To the point that I reckon I might even maybe make a do-go-on episode about this one day. The question comes from Jen Meister from Lunenburg in Nova Scotia in Canada. Jenmeister General.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Hopefully see you, Jen in September. Katie Drinkwater from Sheffield in England and Amelia Mello from Melbourne. So from three different countries it's been sent in. And the question is, in the 12th century, King Henry the second of England had a court jester named Roland what is he best remembered for the 12th century
Starting point is 00:36:16 English court jester Roland what's he best remembered for while you're writing your answers here's some more info about the frog bum beetles which I think should be its name Penny writes in a video taken by ecologist Shinji Siguera
Starting point is 00:36:34 a tiny aquatic beetle known as the Japanese water scavenger beetle pulls off a death-defying feat to rival Houdini. First, the frog snags the beetle and gulps it down whole. For a tense 115 minutes, nothing happens. Then the great reveal.
Starting point is 00:36:50 The same shiny insect wriggles its way out of the amphibians' anus, leaving both frog and beetle alive and seemingly no worse for where. All right, the answer is in for question number five. In 12th century, King Henry the second of England had a court just to name Roland. What was he best remembered for? Here are your options. He became known for performing the roly-poly where he would cartwheel around the room while not spilling a cup of wine.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Option two, after being sentenced to death, after angering the king, he dressed up a dead pig in his clothes and presented it as his corpse. The king was so amused that he let him live. Option three, he was a professional flatulist. Who each Christmas performed a routine that involved a jump, a whistle and a fart in quick succession. Option four, his act included wearing an incredible amount of woolly hats, which at the time was seen as a ridiculous and foreign style of headwear. Option five, he was known as Roland of the Dogs, and he had a spectacular acrobatic routine with the King's hunting hounds involved. Or finally, he invented the pull my finger bit. So a couple of fart related ones, actually. Ray, and what do you reckon?
Starting point is 00:38:12 Rolly Polly, pig corpse, Christmas farder, lots of hats, dog man, or pull my finger. Kind of like how wholesome just wearing a bunch of hats is. Got a bunch of hats. He's like, what is he doing? He doesn't need five. Yeah, and it's some really unimpressive number. He's got four hats on. This guy.
Starting point is 00:38:35 This guy. This guy's out of control. One head and four hats. I believe it. Well, that's tickled you. That has tickled me. But, oh yeah. I think that was, what was the dog one?
Starting point is 00:38:55 Like the four. It's pretty vague. Yeah. I think that's why I'm jogging. A spectacular acrobatic routine with the king's hunting hounds. Yeah. Oh, you juggled them? Yeah, I think I kind of like that
Starting point is 00:39:10 There's just something about how vague it is That's like, yeah, maybe Roland is famous for that All right I'm not convinced But they all sound crazy Yeah That's a different time, quite literally Connor, what do you reckon?
Starting point is 00:39:25 I would love it to be the pull your finger I'd love for there to be a historical record Of where that bit came from Oh, there will be I mean, we had a previous episode where the question was when was the high five invented and it was a couple of baseballers. It was a baseball as Dusty Baker and someone else.
Starting point is 00:39:40 There you go. Dusty Baker, great name. That's a fantastic name. I agree. Well said. Thank you. Glad we got that out of the way. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:39:51 I think similarly, the roly-poly, like that having a historical, you know, point. How did it come from? Yeah. I'm going to go with Rolly Polly. Something about that Twigs is true for me that that's why that's called Rolly Polly because there was a guy called Rolet.
Starting point is 00:40:12 Yeah. But I guess, no, the roll part would come from the fact that you're rolling. Yeah, but maybe that's when what rolling came from too. Roll and roll. Okay, sure. Connor, that's where language comes from, the past. You're all right, fuck it. You convince me.
Starting point is 00:40:29 And Deanna? I think it's the dressing the pig up. in his clothes and the king is like you son of a bitch you son of a bitch you turn to the end yeah because I think kings are twisted unpopular opinion
Starting point is 00:40:45 kings are twisted and sick and I think that that would be up in their alley I do love that this is like a real Hail Mary and the case like yeah I can't say mad at you wrong I gotta do something you are a card
Starting point is 00:40:58 that is very good come on makes him do it for him at special occasions now, oh, roll, make sure you do the pig bit
Starting point is 00:41:05 again. You gotta do the pig bit, man, that's such good stuff. And he's just like, and back stage going, oh, fucking so sick of this pig bit. It's really starting to smell.
Starting point is 00:41:14 I need a new pig. I'm using the same pig every time. I guess that's being resourceful. You're not murdering a new pig. Oh, it's expensive. Okay. Is it you would know,
Starting point is 00:41:23 I suppose? This is who wrote because you work on farms. Yeah. I'm not suggesting. I'm a pig. God, that I do the Roland bit.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Put the words in my mouth. I'm not a clown. Connor finally gets cancelled after this one goes there. Finally. And whatever listeners are hearing, this is what Connor approved. Exactly. So you can imagine the nasty shit he took out of it. The really awful stuff, yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:47 All right, here's the right. The answers. Inventing the pull my finger bit with Deanna. That's so good. That's so fucking funny. Hi. Is that also? It had to start somewhere.
Starting point is 00:41:59 Yeah. We don't know for a fact, actually, that it wasn't started in the 12th century. century. Is that also... Can you say it wasn't? Yeah. Is that also taught in Chicago's L-impro?
Starting point is 00:42:08 Is that the point of my finger bit? Yeah. Yeah. It's history. The one with the incredible amount of willy hats, that was written by one of the question writer's Katie. That was really good. I did.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Very good job, Katie. You made Ray Wednesday. The Rolly Polly Origin story. Raywin wrote that. I got you. Well done. Well done, Raylan. Very good.
Starting point is 00:42:37 Now, at least I didn't pick the house. Jesus Christ. Diana went for the dead pig. That was Connor. Oh. You're sick and twisted. I'm a sick and twisted. That was wild.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Raywin went for Roland of the dogs, which was Amelia, okay, the house. And me and Amelia together. put together whatever that was. And it really feels like our hearts weren't in it, to be honest. But I love how you picked it.
Starting point is 00:43:10 And that means that Deanna really wasn't that far off with the pull my finger bit. He was a professional flatulist. Wow. And every Christmas, and not only was he got, he, because of his skill, the king gave him a manner to live in. Wow. And every Christmas he had to do this act, which included him. Jumping, whistling and farting in quick succession. Maybe even concurrently.
Starting point is 00:43:37 Wow. Yeah. What a lot. Makes you think. That's all you have to do. I love that. You have to do a do go on because I want to know more, but I don't want to do the research. Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:47 So I'm like, you could do. That'd be great. Okay. No, I think I do think I, yeah, just that and like the history, like, flatulists. Yeah, I wonder if there are flatulists. There are. Well, there was a guy like in the 90s and English. guy called Mr. Methane.
Starting point is 00:44:05 And that was his whole shit. So I reckon there's enough in an episode on this. Yeah. Yeah. So going into the final round, the scores are Connor on one point. Raywin and Deanna
Starting point is 00:44:16 three points a piece, but way out in front on eight points of the house. Now, going on the final round, it is worth for you three, not for the house, it's worth triple points. So it's still truly anyone's game. If you absolutely dominate this round, you can get nine points.
Starting point is 00:44:32 So you can, Anyone can still win this. The only way that I can win is if I want to do that. You got a dominole. You got to dominate. And what do we win? You, yeah. Breaking rights.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Yeah. Yeah. That's enough for me. Thanks. Yeah. There is. You get to have a shot of Malort with me and Connor. So.
Starting point is 00:44:52 Oh. Done. Thanks for volunteering me met. Why not me? Well, because you might win. That's your prize. Why would the prize? So what do I get a vote?
Starting point is 00:45:01 Well, you are not going to win. Like we were saying it's truly anyone's game But we're talking mathematical possibilities only All right All right Final question comes from Helena Kirk from Birmingham in the UK Actually previous guests on the show
Starting point is 00:45:18 And Helena's question is What is the synopsis of the 2007 movie Red Line? So this will be your longest answer Like a short paragraph Two three sentences long So 2007. 2007 film Redline.
Starting point is 00:45:34 What is the synopsis? While you're writing your answers, here's a little bit more info. I don't want to give too much away, saving it for a dug-on episode, but a little more info about Roland. And this is from Atlas Obscura, written by Linda Rodriguez-McRobby. Roland, court-minstrel to 12th century English king Henry II, probably had many talents, but history has recorded only one. referred to variously as Roland Le Sarker,
Starting point is 00:46:05 Roland la Fartere, Roland le Fartere, and Roland the Fartre, Roland really had a single job in the court. Every Christmas during the court's riotous pageant, he performed a dance that ended with one jump, one whistle, and one fart executed simultaneously. For this, Roland was gifted a manor house in Hemingstone Suffolk and more than 100 acres of land for farting on cue. Farts are, and have always been funny,
Starting point is 00:46:35 an odiferous invisible thread in the rich tapestry of global comic tradition. They are funny in virtually every culture, every language, every era. The oldest joke in the world, according to the University of Wolverhampton, is a fart joke. This is the joke or the English translation of it.
Starting point is 00:46:55 something which has never occurred since time immemorial. A young woman did not fart in her husband's lap. Apparently that would have really cracked up the Sumerians of 1900 BC. Master Athenian playwright Aristophanes peppered his comic plays with fart jokes, as did Shakespeare. Jeffrey Chaucer used well-placed farts to puncture pretension in his Canterby Tales. and at least two stories in the 1001 Nights hinge on farts.
Starting point is 00:47:32 An ode to a fart in Parliament from 1607 was popular for decades after the fart itself had dissipated. Mark Twain's fart joke, a mock Elizabethan diary entry titled 1601, or conversation as it was by the social fireside in the time of the tutors, was long considered unprintable as it featured Queen Elizabeth Sparrow.
Starting point is 00:47:55 buttering verily in mine eight and sixty years have I not heard the fellow to this fart. The 1942 Bing Crosby and Bob Hope vehicle rode to Morocco got big laughs out of a whoopey cushion gag. And in 2007 in an interview with the New York Times, Sarah Silverman called Fart Jokes, the sign language of comedy. And a 2009 book is called Eat, Pray, Fart. It was so fun. Did not know that. That's good stuff.
Starting point is 00:48:28 The world fart championships are, or at least were in 2013, a thing in Finland. Farts are funny, and they're everywhere. It's beautifully written stuff from Linda Rodriguez Macrobby. All right,
Starting point is 00:48:41 the answer is for the final question. What is the synopsis of the 2007 movie Red Line? Determined to stop the wave of crime ruining the neighborhood, aspiring superheroes Juniper and Margo set up an alternative emergency line to 911. It promises an immediate, if violent response. Okay, that's option one. Option two, a serialist masterpiece where the camera closely follows a long looping painted red line
Starting point is 00:49:08 that spans the walls floor and ceiling of a single room for the entire four-hour runtime. No dialogue, characters or editing to be found. What will you find at the end of the red line? It's option two, option three. When two retired conductors, Steve Carell and Brian Cranston, lose their pensions to a corrupt auto racing tycoon, they build the world's fastest station wagon for one final race. Along the way, they recruit Keanu Reeves,
Starting point is 00:49:36 a quiet mechanic with a mysterious path and an encyclopedic knowledge of trains. Option three, option four, beautiful auto mechanic and aspiring singer Natasha gets a gig illegally racing flashy sports cars for a wealthy music producer named infamous who bets big money on street races with his millionaire friends Jerry and Michael
Starting point is 00:50:00 or finally local school teacher Harry Ball has lost his spark his students don't respect him his family is drowning in debt and his best friend is not talking to him one student takes it too far and Harry is faced with an ultimate decision can he live with the consequence
Starting point is 00:50:19 Where is the line when it's covered in blood? Okay. Scary. Yeah. Connor, what do you reckon? You've got the superhero 9-1-1 alternative. You've got the serialist masterpiece following the red line with no edits. You got the retired conductors, Steve Crowell and Brian Kranson, teaming up with counter-reed.
Starting point is 00:50:42 You've got the beautiful auto mechanic and aspiring singing Natasha. Infamous. Yeah, and the music producer named Infoferenced. who bets big money. Oh, you've got the local school teacher, Harry Ball, who has to figure out where is the line when it's covered in blood?
Starting point is 00:50:58 Hmm. The retired conductors, I think, is such a, you know, fan casting for any movie. That's the three, like, the internet's dads, Brian Krantz and Steve Grell and Keanu Reeves. Yeah. So I do not think that's real, sorry.
Starting point is 00:51:15 Wait, because it's too well cast. No, I think it's just like, That's, you know, I feel like you'd know of it. So many fancasting things just use those three actors all the time. Well, yeah. They're a good act, you know. This is also 2007. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Oh, true. Yeah. Yeah, I do not think Brian Cranston was a movie actor at that point. He's in so many things. Orrall, I don't think. Maybe he was trying it. Well, what was Anchorman? This is first one.
Starting point is 00:51:42 It was like Steve Correll. Yeah, good point, good point. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they'll probably smaller parts compared to Keanu Reeves, I'm guessing. He would have been probably top build at the time. Such an in-depth character for a love strains.
Starting point is 00:52:01 Love strains. I'll tell you anything. I'll tell you about it. What was the superhero 911, please? Juniper and Margot, aspiring superheroes, set up an alternative emergency line that promises an immediate, if violent response. Okay. And the last one?
Starting point is 00:52:18 Last one was the local school teacher, Harry Ball, who lost his spark and he sounds like he killed one of his students. Doesn't say that out loud, though. Spoiler alert. I mean, it's sort of, it's, it's, it's, it's, um, I'm going to, I'm going in the subtext there somewhere. I'm going to go with that one, this called, give me ball. All right. You got balls. You got it.
Starting point is 00:52:42 If you want ball, you got it. Thanks, man. Diana? Diana. Diana. Oh, is that another one? What? Is that another American-Diana, Diana.
Starting point is 00:52:52 Diana? I don't think we... Nick Cave sings, oh, Diana. Oh, Diana. My God. Nick Cave's in the studio with us. He just dropped in. He heard that I was here.
Starting point is 00:53:04 I'm going to look it up and make a note to myself to look up this song. Good tune. All righty. We had the conductors. Conductors. The teacher? Yep. Got the superheroes.
Starting point is 00:53:19 The racing. Mechanic and music producer. So I'm also with the Jerry and Michael. Yeah. It's a lot happening in that one. There's a lot and also not that much. Yeah. Okay, I'm thinking of like fast and furious.
Starting point is 00:53:37 Because, okay, when I think of Red Line, I think of the train in Chicago called the Red Line. Oh. So I'm like, there's something going on. I'm, I think, racing. I'm going to say the music and the beautiful woman. Okay. The infamous man and Natasha.
Starting point is 00:53:58 All right. Lock them out in. I am thinking the 911 that superhero one. Yeah. Locked in. Let's lock it in. Okay. Here's who wrote the answers.
Starting point is 00:54:14 the surreal masterpiece, surrealist masterpiece following the red line. That was Connor. Yeah, I thought, I was trying to think of something that would be like submittable like this. It was also the type of film that I would fucking hate. Really?
Starting point is 00:54:32 You hate watching four hours and following a red line? I hate like the concept that it's like, oh yeah, this is, you know, a four hour and you have to sit through it and you have to watch the whole thing to understand it. To try and then there's no characters. you have to follow the red line and try and. Deanna, do you want to shit on that at all?
Starting point is 00:54:49 It's a suicide cult film. Because, as you know, Deanna, kind of really tore yours apart, the one about Steve Carell and Brian Cranston. I wasn't terrible. I was just going to say, that's hack, that's hacked. And I was, I was like,
Starting point is 00:55:01 so actually it wouldn't be that crazy. I'm so sorry. No, I just think, I just... Let me show my trickles today. In defense of Deanna, I'd say, surrealist masterpiece is fucking lame. Yeah. You know wrong.
Starting point is 00:55:13 Well, nobody picked it, did they? To call your own work a surrealist master's movie. It would be a masterpiece. Yeah, well, the type of person that would make a movie like that would call it a surrealist masterpiece in the logline. Yeah, yeah. Now, Connor went for the one about local school teacher Harry Ball. That was Raywin. Yay.
Starting point is 00:55:35 Raywin went to an row you've got for mine. Yeah, I'm in your head. I'm happy that I didn't give it to the house. Ray when went for the one about the super heroes. I'm afraid that was Helena, the questioner on it, okay, the house. But that does mean, Deanna is corrected. It's about the aspiring singing Natasha. What?
Starting point is 00:55:54 Have you heard of it or you can... I remember the cover of the DVD. Really? I can see that cover in my head and it very much is giving Fast and Furious vibes. Yes, it's like knockoff vanity project apparently. Apparently, this guy called Daniel Sadek, it was a vanity project to show off his fleet of expensive Ferraris and Lamborghinis, basically. Amazing. I haven't looked into it, but the fact that it says that it's like, he's either based infamous on him, I reckon, or maybe even plays him.
Starting point is 00:56:33 But it's so funny that one of the descriptions is, yeah, so he's hanging out with his millionaire friends, Jerry and Michael. He's actually really cool and popular. That's why I didn't go for it. I was like, that sounds crap. That's like a bizarre tangent to be. Oh, yeah, and there's Jerry and Michael. The game's all here. Jimmy, Michael, Natasha.
Starting point is 00:56:53 That's for real. This guy's cool and he hangs around cool people and he's got cool cars. So Helena writes, here's a few snippets of reviews. One of the worst movies of all time. I've seen it five times, someone wrote. Redline threatens to be. So bad that it's good. Alas, no such luck as nothing can hide the fact that this has to be one of the worst acted movies of the year.
Starting point is 00:57:17 There's another review. Another one said, rides on the coattails of other trashy racing movies. This is probably one of the worst of its genre. Helena also says that it's on the bottom 100 list from Rotten Tomatoes with a 0% critic score. Wow. But a 47% audience score. I wonder if the guy, um, some bots to do that, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:57:41 But, yeah, apparently most of the positive reviews were about how the lead is hot. Sometimes that's all you need. Yeah. If you have the sound off, exactly. It's actually a riveting movie. Helena says I haven't quoted any of the positive reviews because they all include a lot of 2007 level misogyny.
Starting point is 00:58:05 Oh, my goodness. Which I think gives a pretty vivid picture there. All right, well, as I'm tabulating the scores, where can people find you? Deanna, if people listening want to find your work, if they're in Chicago, you're a performer. What's that regular, your residency you've got? Yeah, if you're in Chicago, nine times out of ten, you can see me at the Lincoln Lodge. I teach classes over there. I'm there most nights of the week.
Starting point is 00:58:30 I'm also, all my dates and stuff are at my Instagram or at my website, Dian Ortiz.com. If you're not in Chicago, I am touring the United States with my solo show. called Funny Slut, which is a show. I worked in social media for porn stars. Porn, not pawn. For five years, I did their social media and the show is all about how watching porn every day for five years made me a better person. It won't work for you guys. But that's the keeping out for that. I'm trying to get back out on the streets. That's very fun. Great. I'm not for sure. I love that. Yeah. Yeah. Got to bring it out to a Melbourne Comedy Festival
Starting point is 00:59:06 One year. That's what I'm trying. Yeah, I'm trying. Are you finding Vs is equally difficult? We should really get some sort of a program where we make it easier for each other. Yeah, I haven't looked into it because of that exact reason of time, energy and money. Yes. Of which I have none. And Raywin, how about you?
Starting point is 00:59:30 Look, I have no shows coming up. Can I have you? Can I have you started? You can I have some show splits. You can follow me, Raven's Picks on Instagram. I just recently posted Ariel for the first time in a while. It's a lot of farm-based stuff too.
Starting point is 00:59:53 It's a lot of farm-based slash garden, slash garden stuff. Just moved into a new place. So, like, it's going to be a lot of garden stuff. Awesome. Chickens. And it just realized you're like the opposite of Diana. Deanna's American dating and Ozzy Europe.
Starting point is 01:00:08 And I'll see dating an American. Are we dating each other? We're going on a couple of dates. I'm not like, good. Not ready to put it into terms yet. Yeah, yeah. I'm like, I made a huge mistake by saying that. Yeah, maybe we should do each other.
Starting point is 01:00:24 And you're like, oh, that information is no longer. Oh, no. Oh, no. And Connor, what are you? I do think. Oh, so yes. Nope, no, I don't think anything. Go on.
Starting point is 01:00:35 Listen to this show. Please, I work on this show And if you keep listening to it, I'll keep getting work on this show. You can also follow me on Instagram at CMR Schmidt 11. Not particularly active, but I could be a fun follow.
Starting point is 01:00:49 But you can also follow my band on Instagram, which is... Hello, editor Connor from the future here. The Instagram handle for that account has now changed to Short Supply underscore band. Short Supply all one word underscore band.
Starting point is 01:01:07 We really organized this well. We really know what we're doing. Thank you. If you want to see, Connor trying to play guitar at women. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Real interested women. Not two women.
Starting point is 01:01:22 Definitely not. Yeah, we're getting started out, looking at doing some gigs soon. Oh, just getting started out. Be the first followers on Instagram. Yeah, please. Good Lord. Been playing together for a little while,
Starting point is 01:01:34 but we're looking at some originals. going and doing some gigs around Perth and then maybe elsewhere. Well, you feel free to edit in a clip of one of your songs now if you want to just to really get the sizzle going. All right, final scores. In fourth place, very respectfully on one point, it's Connor Schmidt. It didn't go out with zero. I can be happy with that.
Starting point is 01:01:55 Thank you. Thank you. Now, an equal second place with six times Connor's score. Whoa. Raywin and Deanna. Hey! Yay! Just maintaining the lead the whole way through,
Starting point is 01:02:10 like a hot girl in the movie Red Line. I'm not you. On nine points, it's the house. Unbelievable. All right. It's great. Well, thanks for having me. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:02:25 And I just like, we've overstayed our booking in this studio by near half an hour now. This is, this might be one of the longest episodes we've ever done. So enjoy editing that, Connor. Thanks so much for being involved. Deanna, come back anytime. So love it to meet you.
Starting point is 01:02:40 I love to. Thank you so much. You too. Ray one and Connor. And yeah, if listeners enjoy the show, tell people you know who might like it. Share the word. You've got the 200th episode coming up next week.
Starting point is 01:02:53 It's going to be a live one. It'll be in your feeds. But anyway, cheers for tuning in. And now that you know it, I've been Matt's show it. Goodbye. Do you have any questions? No, I've been listening, studying, kind of contemplating how I'm going to act if I lose. These are important things to get locked down.
Starting point is 01:03:25 I'm seeing a guy who's Australian and yesterday I was like, what should I say? What should I do? He was like, chill. I was like, what should I mention? And all I could think of was fairy bread and Uluru. Oh, that's a pretty good. Are I impressing you guys? It's good to drop it. Drop that knowledge. Fairy bread. Fairy bread is really good.
Starting point is 01:03:50 Have you had fairy bread? No. You got to have it the right way as well. It can't be butter. It has to be crappy margarine. Oh. Oh, okay. And it has to be the spherical sprinkles, not the line ones.
Starting point is 01:04:03 And I think you have to be a child. Yeah. I don't know, man. So it's going to be hard for you to, you're really going to have to go back to childhood to enjoy it properly. Yes, man. I had very bad of 24th birthday party like a month or so ago. That was pretty fucking good.
Starting point is 01:04:17 Do you have fairy bread and just call it something else or is it you just don't have it at all? No, I, it's not called anything else. It's just sprinkles on toast, I think, is what we would call. We don't toast it. Fresh. Oh, sprinkles on bread, even better. Bread, margarine spring. Yeah, it's really, I mean.
Starting point is 01:04:35 I don't know about the margarine thing. I feel like it's, it can be butter. I don't know. I think the cheapness of it elevates it. It's not deserving of real bad. It's so funny that it's even thought of, you know. It was just like a thing that probably people who didn't have enough money in the 80s and 90s.
Starting point is 01:04:55 It was just like a real budget working class treat for kids. Yeah, exactly. Has to be cut diagonally as well. Can't be. I don't like the gatekeeping that Conno is doing here, I'm not standing by any of this. I don't know. Let me find a pen.
Starting point is 01:05:09 I'll be right back. Jesus Christ. Shee margarine. East Coast, West Coast. You're talking to the guy with like a, he's writing a book on the rules of fairy bread. Yeah, that's what I'm going to plug at the end of the show. You got the World Cup on there too. You're probably there at all the games and stuff.
Starting point is 01:05:29 Yeah, no. I'm just learning the rules of soccer now because Scotland came to. No, no, no. They came to Chicago. They came to Boston. Scotland came to Boston and drank all the beer. And that's a new story that I can get behind. I actually saw that as a new story.
Starting point is 01:05:46 Yeah, it's so nice. These little Scottish people are just having the time of their life. They love it. They love it. They're just cute. They're out there punching people, having a good laugh. Yeah, we can't we? Yeah, I've been watching a bit where at the time of recording,
Starting point is 01:06:07 Australia is about to play there. Yeah, right? A really big. Show us how much we're into it that they'll be playing in about 15 minutes. Anyway, I'll give you score updates if you need them. Well, they just played America and I think we won. Sorry to bring that up. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:24 The easy bit. Yeah, it was very one-sided. Yeah. And do we just need to draw to move on? You need to a shore moving on and potentially can still move on if we lose, just to Paraguay. You'll be editing this out because it'll be really old news by the time this comes out. Yeah. I'm just looking up where it is.
Starting point is 01:06:40 Or we can call it from the future and we can say here's what's exactly going to happen. Oh, true. Wow. How about we have to get it right right now. That lucky win from Australia that, you know, that goal in the 90th minute to secure it. Just at the end there. It's been played in San Francisco. I reckon I went to that stadium if it's the where 49ers play.
Starting point is 01:07:00 It is. It's at Levi Stadium which a FIFA don't allow them to keep the sponsor names. How Levi's got a very, like, iconic. sort of logo shape. It's just got a sheet over it. Really? But it is. So Levi's social media accounts
Starting point is 01:07:17 have changed their logo to their logo with a sheet over it. Very clever stuff. That's fun. Probably getting way more attention than they would have. Americans are fun. Beautiful.
Starting point is 01:07:26 I think of it as the home of fun. Finally somebody said it. Definitely the past four or so years have been the funest in history. It's so fun. It's been a really interesting and fun time.
Starting point is 01:07:40 And I imagine a really cool time to be seeing, you know, up close and personal. It's been so fun. Unrelated, does anybody know how I can get a visa
Starting point is 01:07:48 to any of it? It's unrelated. I just wanted to start a conversation with my new friends. Well, I think dating in Australian, you're going the right way. Oh, yeah. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:07:58 That's right. It's all in. Fairy bread will be on the visa application. Yeah, absolutely. And then there'll be bits of silence, Deanna that Connor will edit out later. Make them work for myself.
Starting point is 01:08:14 You don't need me to vamp. I mean, you can. You certainly can vamp. Please. No, no, no, no, no. I was listening to one today and it was like all the outtakes were at the end. Yes. And I was just like, oh my God, I'm going to have to really turn on the razzle-dezzle.
Starting point is 01:08:28 To make those outtakes. Oh, it's going to be so special for me. My favorite thing about one of the bars of yours that I read is that you're a regular at Zanis. It's the most American sound. Zanis, is there a yuck yucks or chuckle heart or something? I love the American comedy club names. They're so fun. When you get into the suburbs and like the middle of America,
Starting point is 01:08:52 that's where all the like the chuckle huts and the freaking frack's comedy venue. Yeah. It's like that's where all the stuff is. And, you know, for the most part, I try and steer clear. But Zanis is fun. I don't know. Has anybody toured in America? No.
Starting point is 01:09:07 No. I do a lot of podcast editing to us. I've been, I've wanted to for quite a while And I've made multiple attempts at the certain working viz you need But it's so expensive And also just As particularly at the moment Apparently they check your social media on your entry
Starting point is 01:09:32 Yeah, you have to provide like five years or something Yeah And I just don't know if it's worth spending like 10 grand on a visa just to be turned back from a tweet. It's a sign. It just feels like such a gamble at the moment. That's crazy. 10 grand is crazy.
Starting point is 01:09:49 I didn't realize it was that way. Yeah, it's like it's going to have to sell quite a few tickets to get anywhere near breaking even. Yeah. And that's, you know, before flights and accommodation. What's the fee at a chuckle hut? Does that cover it? Do you know what the door deal is like? But that's pretty much the reason why,
Starting point is 01:10:09 with my other podcast do go on and I'm doing some stand-up shows while I'm over there we're doing a Canada tour in September. So we're going to be close. We're hoping people from Chicago and Boston and wherever travel up.
Starting point is 01:10:23 Are you guys going to be in Toronto? Toronto. I do listen to the podcast and I listen to the announcements all the time and you guys say, we're going to Canada and I was like, not Chicago skip ahead.
Starting point is 01:10:33 You'll get people. Chicago was our number one on the list for the American tour. But that was, we were definitely going to go there. But, yeah, unfortunately not. But yeah, we're going to Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal. We're here. I love that.
Starting point is 01:10:49 Exciting. Pretty pumped. Have you sent... You get to see ATB. Yeah, ATB. Me and ATB are going to do some spitchos around the place. Oh, sick. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:58 Are you going to speak French as well? Uh, we, we. Do you know the Nick Cave song, Old Diana, Deanna? You must be familiar with it. Oh, okay, great. How does it go? Oh, I just, I mean, I'm like, you know, like normally people who have a well-known song with their name in it just get it like, it gets sick of it. But yeah, no, that's fun they haven't.
Starting point is 01:11:22 It's great song. I don't know it. Well, everybody, I mean, D&I, I feel like is such a rare name that everyone's like, there's no fun songs about it. But I feel like I would have heard it because I do no songs. Well, do you know Nick Cave much? It won't be one of his bigger ones, probably. No, I keep thinking that you're saying Nick Cage, as a Nicholas Cahian.
Starting point is 01:11:39 Oh, yeah, true. So what happens if I have an option and I already sent it to you and then I think of a funnier option? Do it. Send it. As long as you let me know, which you have done.
Starting point is 01:11:56 What would be our, like, I was just thinking, what would be the Australian version of Kevin? Of like, of a Kevin. Was it a Keith? Oh, it's maybe a bit old school. Bruce. Okay, can I ask you guys? then everybody makes one of how Americans say Craig, like, yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:15 But then how do you, how would you say it? I don't know. Well, it's fun because Americans can't tell the difference. Can't tell the difference. Say Craig. Craig. Because you say it like it's Greg, but with a C. Yeah, yeah. But it's interesting that kind of tells the difference. But it's sort of like we can't tell the difference between, like we'll say words wrong like, like celery and salary, I think we use interchangeably.
Starting point is 01:12:38 But they're different words. and should be pronounced differently. Celery and Salary. Two words that sound very different. In Victoria, not over in Perth. It's like the Melbourne accent switches. Salary and so, well, you're from Queensland, so maybe you don't have that.
Starting point is 01:12:52 Well, that's just me. Don't worry about it. I feel like to say Craig. It takes up so much space in my mind. Yeah, right. Craig. Craig, Craig. They are. I love Craig.
Starting point is 01:13:03 I'm a big fan of Craig. They are aware of it, though. Craig. Because the previous, this is going to be a boring tangent, so you're welcome. The previous... You can edit it out and out. Or you could just cut it out and after. God know.
Starting point is 01:13:16 I'll have to hear it. The previous Brewers manager was called Craig Counsel. And he went to the Cubs, which is the Brewers' biggest rival. Brewers being a baseball team. Yes, yes, yes. Because that just sounds like you're talking about it. Sorry, yes. The Milwaukee.
Starting point is 01:13:29 I'm a big baseball fan, major league baseball fan. Damn it. And so that was seen as a big betrayal because he went to the biggest rival. And now all Brewers fans call him great. as a, so they know that it's Craig and Greg. They don't, they know that it's, that they're, you know, it's not pronouncer. They don't think they're pronouncing a Craig. No, there's no way.
Starting point is 01:13:51 And also, I think if you told anybody that they were pronouncing it wrong, they wouldn't believe you. Right. Like if they're like, it's actually Craig, they'd be like, no, it's not Craig. You're rascal. It's also, it's like, you know, pronouncing you're different. You just have an accent. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:06 It's similar Americans. No, you guys have the accent. I don't. I'm kidding. It's like, wait, you, yeah, porn and porn sound the same to us, but in America they're like very different, right? Porn and porn. Porn and porn.
Starting point is 01:14:22 Yeah, yeah, exactly. Porn. What are you guys saying to me right now? Pond. But then, that's why I don't understand. Why do Americans have porn stars? The pun doesn't work over there. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:14:35 Porn shops. Porn shops. And then pawn. Pond. The show is pawn stars. Pond stars. Yeah, we call it porn stars, which makes it like, like a, well, maybe not funny, but it makes it work. It makes it like I understand why it's called that. But it's, you say pawn stars. Like if I'm going to pawn a ring, like I'm going to the, yeah, pawn and then porn is explicit content.
Starting point is 01:15:03 When you porn, yeah, porn a ring is different. To ponder yourself. What are we doing? What are we doing? What is going on? It's, and it's morning, Ty's morning on a weekday here, Deanna. It makes sense for me. It's late.
Starting point is 01:15:20 I don't know. I've been awake a long time. Your mind is in the gutter already. Connor, just quickly, I just realized I hadn't been recording our cameras in here until just now. Amazing. For you in the edit, you'll have to use the auto switch. No, the Zoom auto switch Oh, okay.
Starting point is 01:15:42 So it's gonna be shit house. But for the listeners, for the viewers right now, the quality has just gotten really good. For all of us, apart from Deanna's camera, I guess. Douglas brought us into 4K. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:54 All right, Connor. I've not done that before. Sorry about that, man. That's all right. It's me being here's throwing you off. Yeah. You're not used to staring at my face in real life. Even when, when there's zooms.
Starting point is 01:16:04 She was like, should I record my screen? None of that prompted you to think about. No, Deanna recorded it. Audio. Because Dan is on Zoom, I think there's about six different things I had to press record on. And I did all but one.
Starting point is 01:16:19 And probably the one that I didn't do was arguably one of the more important ones. But I got the audio's been recording all the time. I mean, you're almost 200 episodes in and you haven't done it until now. So, you know. From 200 onwards. Set the clocks back to zero.
Starting point is 01:16:34 Start again. I got to rub off days since Matt's fucked up. It was only on one anyway. All right. So, Raywin's going for Splashy Douglas. There's, old, older Australians will often be really, there'll be really anti-American pronunciations of words too. Like ass.
Starting point is 01:16:56 Ass. They're like, we say ars. A-R-S-C, we say ass. We don't say ass. That's American. Yeah, the American crap in it. We say ass. Which I think is a really fun hill to do.
Starting point is 01:17:08 die on. Oh yeah. I've even had a conversation with someone where like they've been so committed to that where like a cross between a donkey and a horse is an ass and it's like, no. You've taken that way too far. It's still an air. Surely you can say ass. Strong call them asses. That's funny. It's going to be pretty disappointing for the up to 400 people who watch this show on YouTube. Yeah, the quality. One episode went into four digits, actually.
Starting point is 01:17:44 Yeah, not bad. We do all right. Yeah, so they're going to be pretty shattered about the quality of the picture. Yeah. It's all right. The quality of the guests and the comedy is going to lift it.
Starting point is 01:17:56 This one might go big. More people listen on the podcast feed, though, Deanna. Hey, I'm one of them. Perfect. So there you are. We got one. Guys, don't worry.
Starting point is 01:18:07 We got one. One listener. And are you still doing your podcast about sex in the city? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. It's called The Show Sucks. And I hate the show Sex and the City. And my friend Jonah is watching it with me and he loves it. Well, he's watching it for the first time and he really likes it.
Starting point is 01:18:23 But we just kind of go into why the show sucks. Real yin and yang sort of stuff. Yeah. And it's kind of like, okay, I'm 30 years old. And that's the age that Carrie Bradshaw was when the show started. So like, is my dating life. That's the kind of the thing. I'm like, my friends would never treat me the way that she's treating her friends.
Starting point is 01:18:41 Like, I just think Carrie Bradshaw is a shitty friend. And I'm trying to convince everyone about it. But yeah, we were on season two right now. Big is back. It's bad news. Nice. So it's pretty. Have you guys, do you guys ever have the one where it's like, yeah, I know somebody that had piercings?
Starting point is 01:18:58 Two piercings in his hand. Oh, no. That's real fun. That's real fun. Wow. That's a, that's a deep cut. All right, but that's fun. You know, right around the corner from our studio here,
Starting point is 01:19:12 it's unfortunately, it went out of business, but there was a laundromat that was Sex and the City themed. That's cool. It was called Soke in the City. And I just had like, the walls were the New York Skyline.
Starting point is 01:19:27 And there was a TV behind like a, like a... 24-7 Sex in the City. Yeah, 24-7 Sex in the City was like a, you know, a thick glass protective screen so I can still be the cheap
Starting point is 01:19:42 the cheap TV I love that someone has a passion for laundry and sex in the city but I mean the idea of soap in the city
Starting point is 01:19:50 is very much the kind of vibe we're going for on this question as well that's great there's a vegan restaurant
Starting point is 01:19:58 that's in Chicago and it's called kale my name and I think it's a pun on say my name by Destiny's Child but there's
Starting point is 01:20:05 no other evidence that backs that up outside of kill my name. I love when people are looking at names going, I think what they're trying to do here is. I'm not quite sure. I also, I think, because the bun, I'm thinking, my brain was just like going bun like bakery's bun.
Starting point is 01:20:29 And then the berries, anyone, I'm like, Roman's going with absolute fucking gibberish here. I guess I'll read it though. She doesn't know what she's doing. Too much time spending with flocks of sheep. Well, I thought it needed to be written as separate words or else you'd fuck it up. Ah, well, I mean, you were right.
Starting point is 01:20:56 Yeah. You also misspelled berries, I think, which also threw me off a bit. B-U-R-Y-S isn't a word. So that, that, there are all these things playing together. Some of which were your fault. Well, that's because it was, yeah. I would say more of which were my fault. But it got you the point.
Starting point is 01:21:17 So otherwise I certainly would have given you a pity point for fucking you up there. But we got through it, I think. Yeah, no one noticed. No one noticed. Yeah. It was actually really smooth. Do you got anything up coming up? You need a plug, Rowan?
Starting point is 01:21:35 No, not really. That's so. Yeah. I'm so sorry. I don't have anything to plug. I'm like, that sounds so nice. Yeah. You can just, that fucking sounds so good.
Starting point is 01:21:45 To not have a looming deadline. Yeah. Is it Comedy Republic that you do? No, it was at Ms. Moses bar. Oh, okay. Yes, so we have a comedy night. Deathbed comedy. But we're actually handing that over to the next person.
Starting point is 01:22:06 Is that because Jordan's going to sit in here? Fair. Yeah. It's a shame you not doing, because I'm only here for a few days if you were doing something I'd come to. Oh, well.
Starting point is 01:22:15 I want to see your show in 23 and I really, really enjoyed it. It's one of the highlights. Yay. It's a very good time. Oh, that's so nice of you.
Starting point is 01:22:22 Give you a cash payment after the episode. Thanks for bringing it up. I think I might go to Comedy Republic tonight and see you check out that way. Yeah, I'd recommend that. Yeah, I'll try and make it to Chicago. I think there's something on tomorrow, maybe. but it'll, like, as in, there's a big episode, like, coming up.
Starting point is 01:22:45 Yeah, sick. I'm hinting at the 200th episode and I did that really badly. Next week. Because I know that it's not going to. Oh, is it next week? Recording tomorrow, but it comes out next week. This is 199. I went to Chicago a couple of years ago.
Starting point is 01:22:59 Oh, yeah. And absolutely fucking loved it. I think it's my favorite city that I've been to in America. Oh, I love it. I'm biased. I love it. It's one of the best cities ever. So great.
Starting point is 01:23:10 Is it your hometown, Deanna? Yes, yeah. The sausage style I loved. I've always been a tomato sauce kind of guy when I'm out Alfa Kevin at the barbecue. Yeah. But the place I went to, I had to find, a lot of them don't do veggie ones. So I found the specific one that did veggie ones. And they had a wall of shame for people who asked for ketchup.
Starting point is 01:23:36 Yeah. And so I'm like, No, of course I'll have it. I'll have it, you know, Chicago's salt. It was awesome. Wait, so what is, can you explain? Don't put me on the wall. Yeah, Chicago style hot dog is, it's no ketchup.
Starting point is 01:23:51 So it's mustard, tomato, celery salt, sport peppers, which is like a little spicy. And then relish. Perfect, the perfect meal. That's really good. I've never had one. I'd really like to go to Chicago one day. So I'll get one there. You guys come to Chicago.
Starting point is 01:24:06 Please, if you guys do any. up message anybody even if you're just listening if you come to Chicago message me I have hard opinions on things that you should and should yeah okay it's absolutely blasphemous to be to say that I really like because I'm a big Milwaukee brewers fan who Milwaukee and Wisconsin people hate Chicago and Illinois oh they do yeah well I see Milwaukee in the summer gorgeous amazing in Milwaukee you just drink beer every single day like I think Milwaukee's like yeah just the Milwaukee in the summer you like go on the river and you go to a curry and And then Chicago is, you know, where all the stuff happens.
Starting point is 01:24:39 Yeah. Yeah, I had a really great time. I went to saw a few comedy shows, but they were all improv ones because that's sort of like what the sort of known. Is Second City Chicago? Yes. Yeah, Second City, Chicago. The I.O. Did you ever do improv, Deanna?
Starting point is 01:24:59 Are you just straight into stand-up? You're better than that. I would say that, like, improv in Chicago for a long time has been very. very segregated where like there's like the improvisers play alone and the comedian and the standups play alone and never the two shall meet but it's a lot more where it's uh we've we've come to terms and we're now a family um but i do think there's so much comedy to be had in chicago like any night of the week there's really fun improv sketch storytelling stand up blah blah blah blah blah blah there's so much to do i'm sure yeah i don't know if i'll be able to duck down from um
Starting point is 01:25:30 whatever the nearest canadian cities that i'll be in but um yeah i think in in melbourne anyway there There's quite a few crossovers who are pretty successful improvisers who do standups like Ben Russell and... Oh, yeah. Yeah. Et cetera. I was like... You got the one for sure. Maybe that many. I mean, you and I, we...
Starting point is 01:25:55 I mean, Ruffle did a great stand-up show this year. You and I met in a... We met, yes. Doing one term of improv. And it was Chicago style improv as well. What level did you make? I made a level two. Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 01:26:11 It's all pickles and relish and whatever. Yeah, I did not enjoy it that much, but I respect it. But fuck up, did not. Yeah. I think it is, it just feels like an entirely different world from stand-up. I enjoy, I enjoy watching a good one though, but it is. Same is stand-up. There's, but the bad stand-up and bad improv is rough.
Starting point is 01:26:34 Yeah. But that's probably bad everything. Yeah. not bad I guess that's true not bad podcasting bad podcasting still oh no bad
Starting point is 01:26:43 even the worst podcasting good entertainment it's just something to get into you just re-badge him as a sleep show you know
Starting point is 01:26:50 yeah honestly I want an award for best sleep podcast like good or bad I don't know
Starting point is 01:26:59 I still I get I haven't done recorded hatch shows for ages but I still get every now and then
Starting point is 01:27:05 every few weeks I'll get a damn I go to sleep with you every night. I just want to appreciate it. I'm like, it's really, it's really sweet. All the time.
Starting point is 01:27:14 But it is funny because it's also saying like, yeah, your voice really puts me to sleep. I'm like, my other jobs I'm really hoping to more keep you awake a bit. It's kind of crucial if you stay awake. Yeah. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:27:27 it's so random. I get so many messages from people that are like, when are you bringing back crime for bed? And I'm like, talk to the company. I'd love to do it. But yeah. Every few ones of those,
Starting point is 01:27:36 I'll screenshot sent to them. I'm like, oh, just letting you know people are loving them. Yeah. Hey. Get me back. I do the same. Yeah. So I, um, because we, I couldn't gig over there because I couldn't get a visa. Well, that was why I'd booked the trip to while I was in Chicago's because I was sort of planning. I didn't get it. I'm like, I'm just going to go. I got the flights. I'm going to go anyway. And I had a, like, uh, organized a meetup with, um, patrons of, of the podcast. And we met at this great, like it was like a, I don't know, it was a Mexican restaurant slash craft beer place and it was real fun.
Starting point is 01:28:15 And, yeah, it turned out a couple of them were improvisers who came. It was probably like, you know, 20 old people rocked up and we had a great time. It was fun like they'd come at different times. It was like they're all taking shifts with hanging out with me. Making sure you're okay. That's awesome. But yeah, a couple of them ended up being improvised. So I ended up going to see their shows.
Starting point is 01:28:35 and it drank Mallort with some old improvising legend at one of the clubs. He's like, I haven't had this in 20 years. It was awful, but it felt like culture, you know? Awful, awful culture. Malortz is like a Chicago liqueur and it's like the worst tasting shot. I genuinely love it.
Starting point is 01:28:56 I love Lourts. What does it taste like? It's supposed to taste like bitter grapefruit, like the rind of a great fruit. But it also has like, wormwood and other stuff in it that gives it a really horrible aftertaste. I like it. But I think it's because I'm Chicago trash. But yeah, I always tell tourists, when you come to Chicago, people say, you got to have Mallory. You got to have it. And I say, if they say that to you, they're lying.
Starting point is 01:29:21 If they say that it tastes good, they're lying to you. They want to, because they want to pull a prank on you. But I'm glad you had it. That's fun. Yeah, no, it was fine. And just to have it in that sort of, it was fun. This guy's like, one of the guys was on the show that night. It's like, oh, you're from a shot. I've got to get you a shot. And then the club, the guy started the club. I forget which one.
Starting point is 01:29:39 It was one of the big three ones. He was there. And they're like, oh, this guy's never done. And he's shot him a lot. You want to come do on with him. And he's like, I haven't. It was like this sort of, like kind of grizzled old comedian guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:53 I haven't had a shot of my lord in 20 years. Amazing. Was it maybe the annoyance theater? Maybe, yes, maybe. Then I, if it is, then I know the owner that you're talking about, and that's really funny. And it's, like, fun. And, like, he's like, I'll do a shot of a Lord with you, my guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:09 Yeah, it was, it was, everyone's like, this is an honor. This is an honor to be doing a show with this guy. I'm like, sick. You should be lucky. I feel honored. That's great. Sorry, Matt, I sent you a question asking for more information than I didn't use it. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 01:30:22 You guys have, you guys have Taskmaster over there, right? We do. Yes. So the English taskmaster came to Chicago and I was on the show. Oh. And afterwards, I won. It was absolutely insane. Amazing.
Starting point is 01:30:38 And I literally. Holy shit. Yeah, they did a live show. Why? And you do all the tasks live? We did all, like, most of the live shows that they, you know, the live shows that they were in the audience. We did a couple of those there.
Starting point is 01:30:49 There was two comedians and then three audience members that had to play tasks to get on the stage. And it was just so cool. That's fine. I was hanging out with my dear good friends, Alex and Greg. We're best friends. Awesome. And I mentioned Mallora and they're like, we should do a shot of Mallory.
Starting point is 01:31:05 And I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. And the venue found some and we did it all together. And I was like, but remember that you like me. I remember that, like, you had a good time in Chicago. I'm sorry. The fun bit is that it's bad. Yeah. I know, yeah, but it felt so weird to be like, but not for Greg Davies, you don't do it.
Starting point is 01:31:22 It's not funny. I feel like English people know about. like local horrible food and shit. Yeah. They make people have when they come. Yeah. It's, but I love,
Starting point is 01:31:35 I do like doing those kind of things, having the local specialties. Yeah. And Chicago has so many. I went and had deep dish pizza somewhere. And, yeah. It's for tourists.
Starting point is 01:31:46 Don't eat it. You have tavern style. Yeah. Yeah. Tavern style is just, it's just normal pizza. Yeah, it's just cut into squares instead of triangles.
Starting point is 01:31:54 Yeah. Deep dish is for tourists. So if you, come you have to get it and it's just people people have it and then they go oh my god how do you eat like that and i was like we don't i have a dish once a year if that i really i really enjoyed it and i it was i ordered like a medium and i and i and they're like that's pretty big and i it's a lot of he's like i'll give you the box you'll be taking some of this home with it absolutely you ordered a medium dish for yourself yeah yeah i didn't and i don't do this anymore because of a recent doctor's
Starting point is 01:32:26 appointment. But I would normally eat a large pizza myself. It would be a normal pizza meal. So I thought a medium deep dish sounds about right. Yeah. Doctor saying I've got to cut down
Starting point is 01:32:36 on the carbs and sugars. So medium should be right. It's not a lot. That's so funny. That's amazing. And it tastes like an hour and a half to cook. It's way too much. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:32:49 Really? Way too much. Wow. But I didn't, I did like it. Yeah. I mean, it would just be nice like soft.
Starting point is 01:32:56 Bread. It's like a difference between, it's almost like a cache mix with a pizza. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. The paper in the filling. Oh. Not in the bread's not deeper.
Starting point is 01:33:05 The fillings deep. The fillings deeper. Oh. Oh. I thought it was the bread. Like a deep. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:11 The bread is more like a pie crust and then everything else. Like it's pizza dough, but it's shaped like a pie crust and then everything is filled inside. It's a beautiful, it's a beautiful creation of man. Yeah. Wow. Wow. Chicago style. Chicago style.
Starting point is 01:33:24 Pizza, Chicago style. Hot dogs. you got Mallort. Chicago's out comedy. Yeah. Yeah, like literally there's a whole school in Melbourne called. Yeah. What's it called?
Starting point is 01:33:35 Improv conspiracy Chicago style. Yeah. The long form. Interesting. Yeah. This is Chicago style of everything. That's true. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:33:44 Just the way we like it. Good. Just been tagged in a gig plug coming up for a country gig in you so else. comedian, podcaster and certified funny guy, Matt Stewart, that feels good. Certified. Certified. He's certifiable. He's got to say certified, not certifiable.
Starting point is 01:34:09 I hope they haven't taken that from one of my, our buyers. Yeah, you've written that yourself and you forgot. Certified can't, I feel like I would not have written that. You can certify yourself. Someone else may well have that. Yeah. I'm so hungry for a Chicago style hot. I'm starving.
Starting point is 01:34:30 Is there a Portuguese tar place around here? Yeah, it's right across the road. Oh, I go afterwards. I'll head over there with you. Fuck yeah. Sorry, Deanna. Sorry, it's all right. I'll have a Chicago-style hot dog, I guess.
Starting point is 01:34:43 Chicago-style Portuguese tart. Actually, nice. Portuguese tart with onions and relish in mussels, but no ketchup. That's important. I'm pretty sure you can get Chicago-style hot dogs at Lord of the Fries. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm waiting until I go to Chicago.
Starting point is 01:35:01 Yeah, I want to get it authentic. You'll have it. Really, really. There's a bunch of cities in the U.S. is the country maybe that I want to visit the most. Yeah, well, you let baseball's lives a bit. Exactly. It's pastime. Yeah, it certainly is.
Starting point is 01:35:13 And I... What's the Chicago team called in? White Sox. There's two. The Chicago White Sox are in the American League and the Chicago Cubs are in the National League. Oh, that's right. The Cubbies. The Cubs are the Brewers biggest rivals.
Starting point is 01:35:23 But I like the Cubs. Like, I've got no ill will toils and I'm just supposed to hate them. Because I, you know what's so funny too is that... They do suck at the moment as well. Sorry. That the Cubs, the Cubs are the Brewers biggest rivals
Starting point is 01:35:34 and the White Sox are the Cubs' biggest rivals. It's like the Brewers aren't even like a thought on our lines. Well, I don't know. The Brewers have been on the Cubs most recently because we seem to beat them a lot. That's the... I'm not watching that. I only watch them when they play the socks.
Starting point is 01:35:50 Yeah. Are you a sports fan at all? When the teams are doing well, then yeah, but not really. I've been recently getting a, to rugby. And Chicago, yeah, they just got a rugby team a couple years ago and they've been pretty good.
Starting point is 01:36:03 They just won the, whatever the end of the game is. They just went out of the. Cool, cool, cool, cool. Very loosely into it. Nice. Are you north side or south side? North side. Is that the difference between around Wrigleyville?
Starting point is 01:36:18 Is that the difference between the two baseball teams? I'm sorry? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. So Wrigleyville is the Cubs because the stadium is Wrigley. on the north side. Yeah, north side and south side
Starting point is 01:36:29 is the White Sox. Yeah. And the White Sox are doing well. White Sox were the worst team in baseball last year. I think they set a record for the most losses. And then this year they're doing well.
Starting point is 01:36:38 It's great. I love to see it. There's nowhere you can go, but up, I guess. Yeah, totally. But they're head of their division. They're doing fucking great. Sorry, I hate,
Starting point is 01:36:47 it's the same as me forcing my high school girlfriend to listen and me playing music for her. I'm forcing you to listen to me talk about baseball. What's the number one thing? Because I know what? the number one thing recommended to me was by locals in Chicago,
Starting point is 01:37:00 like I'd ask the guy at the pub with the deep fried pizza and stuff. What thing to do? What would you reckon the number one thing that would have been recommended to me would have been? The architecture tour. Yes. Oh, wow. That's what it was. Got it in one.
Starting point is 01:37:13 Guys, it's incredible. It's amazing. It was really great. It is history. It's like, do I give a shit about architecture? No. But the history and it takes you up and down the river. It's gorgeous.
Starting point is 01:37:24 That's cool. Yeah, so that is 100, and everyone recommended to me. And I'm like, that was really great. Yeah. And I think it's also that tour or something like that was where the infamous the Dave Matthews band, going under on the boat. Tour bus emptied their sewerage on a bridge and it landed on a boat. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:37:47 That's a tourboat. That's a fantastic story. Yeah, that's a great story. It was a do-go-on bonus episode, I think years ago. That's why I would have heard it. That's so grim. I was so shatted that the one I'd booked. I'm like, I'm looking in the maps and I've looked up the bridge.
Starting point is 01:38:05 And I'm like, oh, no, we're turning around before we get to the famous bridge. You wanted to experience it? See if you can still smell it. No, I just. Take me to the bridge. I want to go to sleep. Please. Please take me to the shit bridge.
Starting point is 01:38:17 Yeah. And I caught the red line. I went down to Gary on the train. Oh, no. I was on a different train. Did you really go to Gary? Yeah, yeah. I got it. Man loves Gary.
Starting point is 01:38:28 I knocked on the door of the baseball team. I'm like, oh no, the door is open. I put my head in. It was off season. I said, hello? And the guy came out. He was the general manager of the team. And he's like, so what are you doing here?
Starting point is 01:38:43 And I'm like, I've come from Australia. I'm a big fan. And I was wearing, you know, I was wearing merch and stuff because I'd bought merch years before. And he's like, oh, do you want? Do you want to have a look around? And he gave me a tour around the stadium and it was sick. Wow.
Starting point is 01:39:00 But I also... What team is this? The Gary what? The Gary South Shore Railcats. Never in my life. They're mine old team. I really sure. Oh, actually, I'm wearing a Gary T-shirt right now.
Starting point is 01:39:12 But it's not the rail cats. It's just... It's just Gary. I don't know if you can see that, but... It's a great thing. Never, I've never met anybody that has so die-hard for Gary, Indiana. Love Gary. It's just so funny there's a city named Gary.
Starting point is 01:39:28 I think it's funny when there's a man named Gary, but a city, that's a whole other thing. And where are you going in September? Oh, I'm going to Calgary. But anyway, I think they say Calgary. I need to find a town named Craig for that same year. One of my favorite moments in Chicago was when I went to catch one of the trains, probably to go get the hot dog. And I was struggling with the ticket system for it, you know, like it's. stupid tourist sort of thing.
Starting point is 01:39:56 And the guy was manning the gates, said, he asked me, he's like, oh, you don't know the system very well. And I said, no, sorry. I'm not from, I'm from out of town. And he goes, he held the gate open. And he goes, and it's my, I think it might be my favorite American expression. He goes, don't worry, I got you. And he just held it over and just let me go through.
Starting point is 01:40:19 I got you. I got you. I love it. I'm weeping. That's so. It's very romantic. And he do got you. He got me.
Starting point is 01:40:28 It was so, I love. I'm like, I really was sick. I'm like, holy shit. I feel so, I feel so. I feel so. Embraced. I'm being nurtured by the big windy city. You say $2.50.
Starting point is 01:40:40 That's incredible. It's really beautiful. Well, he was mainly saving me from the embarrassment of like staring at a little machine going. Yeah. What is this? All right. The answers are in for the final question.
Starting point is 01:40:53 What is the synopsis of the 207? I've never, do I say it like that? 2007. You can say it however you want, Maddie. 207 founded clumsy. 27 founded clumsy. That's right. Oh, God.
Starting point is 01:41:07 Well, you'll edit that bit out. Go again. All right. Well, you shut the fuck up and let me get a claim, mate. You'll be enjoying listening to this again next week. All right. I'm sorry, man. Do not encourage him, Diana.
Starting point is 01:41:23 Boys, boys, boys, boys. There's no fighting. Come on. Fettle down.
