Jack McGuire from Barstall, the spinning back fist show, as well as a college football
and gambling blogger at Barstall here on the Will Kane.
So Jack, great to meet you.
This is our first time talking.
I want you to help me through with something, okay?
A take that you may be strong on this.
Everybody has a strong opinion on this.
And I'm not, you know, although I'm, I guess to some extent known for having a strong opinion.
Brony, LeBronie, LeBron James, Bronny checks in, play.
with his dab for the Lakers.
And I got to tell you, like, I'm supposed to be like,
this is the worst thing in the world,
sports is supposed to be a meritocracy,
or I'm supposed to be,
this is the most amazing emotional moment.
I'm neither,
but I air, Jack, on the side of,
okay, cool, I think it's kind of cool.
If LeBron has this juice and he wants to play with his son,
play with your son.
So I'm kind of with you.
When I was watching it,
wasn't like, oh my God, this is the most emotional thing I've ever seen. And then, obviously,
I was also like you and not saying, this is so dumb. Like, how dare LeBron James? Let's not
forget. Brony isn't me. Like, it's not like LeBron adopted me and then brought me onto the court.
He still, he may not be NBA quality, but it's, it's not like this is the worst thing that's
ever happened. There's guys that have been in the NBA that are legit, like, awful. I think of
J.R. Smith's brother, Chris Smith. J.R. Smith was like, I'm not coming back to the next
because you're not giving me enough money. But if you, if you employ my brother, like, we'll do,
that's happened a lot. That's happened with. Now, Thanasis is almost a meme at this point with
the honest, but I think that is a little bit better than Brony because Thonassus at the same point.
He's like 6.10. But if LeBron wants to do it, LeBron wants to do it, it'll be interesting to see how much
she truly plays because they didn't even sign him to a two-way contract he's on a one way
he's on the roster he's a laker all right so i don't like nepotism but i understand it's it's
going to exist in life there's nothing you can do about it i mean a high-powered CEO wants to
hire his son okay guess what he can do so guy that starts his company builds it from the ground
up dave portnoy wants to hire his son that may or may not exist out there somewhere
in America.
His dog.
Great.
Okay.
He wants to give it to the peaches or whatever the dog's name is.
It's his company.
He can do it.
He can do it.
And so LeBron, although he's not an owner, he is basically the guy who runs the Lakers.
He's one of the best players of all time.
And if he wants to bring in his son, I don't see it that differently from a Nepo baby
that doesn't have the resume to run a company that happens all the time.
But here's what I want to do now, now that you've brought this up.
LeBron is selling himself short on this juice.
you know, let's be real.
Bron, he's not good enough.
He's not good enough.
And I hear you saying, okay, but he's not me.
He's not terrible.
But he's there because LeBron has the juice.
So the real test is when one of these guys does exactly what you said.
I want my adopted son, Jack, on the Lakers with me.
That's when you have real juice.
And I would love to see that moment when LeBron brings in his white, and I don't know you, Jack.
So forgive the characterization.
Unathletic, five foot, nine.
Am I in the ballpark?
um adopted son checking in for the lakers now no no i must say um a go-to insult online is like oh you're
short people have recently been tweeting a lot at me and like oh jack you're five-five i stood next
to a uh a child social media star recently and they said like oh my god jack mac how tall are you
you look like you're you're five foot three i'm six feet tall i will like you can come measure me right now
I won my JV football MVP in 2011.
I was the quarterback.
We went undefeated.
Now, that's my athletic.
That's how, and it's Connecticut high school football.
So that's my athletic accomplishments.
Does that mean that I should be anywhere near even a D3 field?
Probably not.
So, yeah, it would be the ultimate test of juice.
So you're six feet.
Yeah.
You're not fine, nine.
You're six foot.
Yes, on the record.
Okay, what happened after JV?
How do you go from JVMVP to you just,
you just noticeably left out anything about varsity?
So they brought in a better quarterback than me, Dante,
who's still my lifelong friend,
which goes to show how good of a teammate I was.
Like, I was almost like,
and I was like, man, I'm supposed to be the guy.
But Dante Chiaffi, a great friend of mine still to this day, invited to his wedding.
So it goes to show lifelong relationship.
And then also, I think the players surrounding me got a little bit better.
I just didn't.
They got faster.
They got, like, I just, I wasn't slow, but I was not, like, they were just better.
Dante was six four.
I wish I had known you a few days ago.
You know, there was a guy that tweeted at me when it came to Kamala,
Harris not appearing with Joe Rogan, why would she appear with this racist?
And I was like, calling everything racist is very 2020 at this point.
It's a fidget spinner.
It's over.
That argument, that thing.
And it had huge, it had huge, like, fear factor and social credibility.
And it's totally done.
And it's so sad.
It's not even a joke now.
Now it's sad that I said it reminded me of, you know, Uncle Rico saying what he could have
been.
And I was trying in my mind when I wrote that post to come up with the perfect metaphor, like
what is really sad?
athlete hanging on to what but you just helped me it's hanging on to jv mvp yeah i i so i kind of like
to use it very similarly when someone is like because people will say they'll look at me i'm i
mean i'm not offended when they say these things like how like you look like a bum like how dare you
talk about a football player or basketball you've never played the game you never put on the pads
You never played basketball
And then I'm like, hey guys
And I'll send the photo of the trophy
Here, I'm gonna pull it up right now
And then I can even give it
I'll send it to your your squad over there
So they can even put it in
But I'm gonna pull it up right now
I'm gonna search it because I've tweeted it at people
Multiple times like hey
Oh, you think I didn't play? Here's a photo
Yep, here it is JV Team MVP
2011 up this way
And there we go
Is it a way
It's a plaque?
Is it a piece of paper that you friend?
It's not actually a trophy?
Oh.
And then this could be fake, but it's not.
Like I could, well, it's kind of like you brought up Joe Rogan and Kamala Harris.
It's kind of like the New York Times had this headline recently.
It said like Trump says that Kamala didn't work at McDonald's.
But one of her friends said she did.
I have friends that said, like, I did win the JVMVP trophy.
Now, is it in any record book?
Probably not.
Like, it's not like, like, like the McDonald's Corporation called my school and what's like,
can you confirm this?
And they were like, we can't, but we don't, we can't confirm any JPMBPs.
Like, we don't keep records of it.
Right, right.
So can't confirm or deny.
And there are several friends that say he was JVMVP.
So it's on the resume.
no I'm I'm cool with brawny I'm cool with this whole thing I mean I I think it when I say I'm cool
with this not like I've given my stamp of approval now will cane won't criticize like I'm I'm not
upset this is happening in the NBA and if I would say if I was LeBron I might do the same I have a son
I love watching them play it's one of the best ways we connect we talk about sports and I mean
it would be awesome for him to do what I do I don't want him to do what I do I actually don't want
him to do what I do for a living, but it would be awesome to have something to be together again.
And so good for LeBron and Brani.
Yeah. And also, I mean, we know that in terms of athleticism and whatnot, one of the biggest
factors of somebody is like their genes. And we know LeBron has the ultimate genes. So it's not,
it's not an adopted. I mean, he's not the exact same as LeBron. It's kind of shocking how
small he is. Because like, I mean, I guess there's a.
obviously the mother as well, but it's not like she's a short woman or anything.
But I kind of feel bad for the kid.
I will say it is the ultimate gift in a curse one of in America right now.
Because, yeah, you're in the NBA.
You get to play.
You have unlimited money.
But the mental toll that has to take on.
Like, it's something that you can't, I mean, there's other famous people out there that he can talk with.
but I mean, not to write a sob story for Bronny James
because there's probably seven billion people out in this world
we could write a sob story for before him.
But I do, there is an aspect where as a human you look at him,
you're like, damn, that's probably sick,
but also like that may stink a little bit.
Yeah, I think absolutely.
I don't think it would be awesome to be LeBron James' son.
By the way, you made me think about something else.
I don't have the stats on this,
but I don't feel like there's a lot of,
of professional athletes, sons that end up, certainly not at their father's level.
They might end up as pros, but they're not ending up at the father's level.
Now, obviously, we're going to be able to come up with some.
You and I could rattle off the griffies or whatever it may be.
But it doesn't, to me, doesn't statistically in my mind bear out as much as you think
it would, because you point out, it's genetic.
So much of it is genetic.
And so that makes me think one of two things is going on.
those kids are not growing up hungry
so they don't have it internally
on whatever it is. Or the pros
are picking wives that are unathletic
or super small and then
therefore like Bronny is short to your point
I don't know how tall his mom is but that's
what's going on like LeBron picked the super
and I think she's his high school sweetheart but
he picked a super small like
life partner and
these guys need to start factoring
this in on their I mean if they
want to have successful children that rise to their
father's standards otherwise you're going to be
super sad like brawny pick pick bigger more athletic wives no you if you're lebron i mean well he
didn't go to college but the best thing to probably do if you are male and like you you almost like
there is a level of responsibility you have to take when you have kids at that stature where it's like
hey like i'm bringing somebody into this world and there's going to be a lot of pressure on him
And one thing that will alleviate in a little bit is genetic supremacy.
So, like, maybe instead of marrying the 5-8 alpha fee, you marry the 6-3 volleyball player.
And then it's like, okay, chances are that this kid's going to be pretty legit.
Now, that's like, somebody, if someone is doing this right, this is like, we're getting into some crazy talk right now.
But like, Shohay Otani's wife is like 6'4 and she plays basketball.
And she's like a professional Japanese basketball player.
Yeah.
Their kid will be like generational, I would assume.
If the kid ends up, now you are right, it's the nature versus nurture.
How much do they care about it?
How much do they have the hunger?
One person that's kind of interesting in how they've done it is Vladimir Guerrero, his sons,
instead of being like, we'll just live in like a gated community in Florida.
He was like, no, like, you're going to play in the slums of the Dominican.
And, like, his kids turned out pretty damn good.
Oh, that's interesting.
By the way, I don't think we're venturing into dangerous territory.
I don't think this conversation is even close to edgy because I'm going to say you this,
everyone does it or they should be.
Yeah, yeah, no, you're right.
I was a pussy there.
And I'm joking about the athletic side, but I don't know if you're married, Jack.
I know you're young.
Like, you got to think about this stuff in your life spouse.
Like, is my wife super dumb?
That's going to be a problem for my offspring.
Like, you know, I love her.
She's super nice.
She has a great personality, and she's hot.
But if she's super dumb, you've done something to your family tree.
That's just a fact.
That's the truth.
You've rolled the genetic dice.
And so everybody, and by the way, we all know it,
and we're all thinking about it in some way.
So why wouldn't you think about it when it comes to pro athletes?
One thing that I thank God for,
And I feel like I won the lottery.
Like both of my parents, they're very smart and they're very, they come from amazing families and whatnot.
And I'm very proud of my last name and both of my parents who are still, I'm fortunate, are still in my life.
But you are right.
Like when it comes the time, like when you're picking a life partner, like you don't want the woman oil, like, and it could be opposite, but you don't want the woman who like forgets to or doesn't know how to like put gas in her car.
Like, there's a disconnect.
Like, like, there's a, there's a chance God would be,
and I, not even a chance.
I think God would be disappointed in a way.
Now we're getting into more interesting territory.
You brought up showing you, Tani.
I'm going to use that as, I'm going to use that as a transition into the World Series.
You're the gambling blogger, in addition to college football at Barstool.
I like everybody else in America, to be honest,
I'm a baseball fan when my team matters.
They did last year.
They won the World Series, Texas Rangers.
So I am not as plugged in as I was a year ago, Jack.
But I care.
It's Yankees, Dodgers.
So I think I'm going to ask you this from like a gambling perspective of your picks.
I'm going to ask you two questions.
We won't do them at the same time.
But first, you know, who do you think takes this series?
I've read in.
I've watched some meaning I know that what?
It would be the Dodgers are probably a little deep.
defensively, maybe the Yankees up top outside of Otani have with Soto and Stanton and Judge
more power, and the Yankees deeper on the pitching staff side with the Dodgers having to work
a ball, a bullpen game or two into this World Series.
But how does it play out?
Who wins the World Series?
Well, so, unfortunately, as a Mets fan, I am in this weird spot where, like, I mean,
I grew up a huge Mets fan, still a huge Mets fan, and this magical run happened.
and, you know, there's a part of you where it's like, this shouldn't have even happened.
But also, two games away from the World Series, it kind of sucks to even think about the World Series.
I think the Dodgers are just too much at points.
I even think there's an – now, here's the thing with the Yankees.
Gene Carlo is unbelievable at this moment where there was a lot of the season where he wasn't that.
And that adds kind of an aspect of the offense for the Yankees.
Yankees that catches them up a little bit.
I still think, I think we're in the midst of a potential seven game series.
These two teams, they're not 100% similar, but they are similar.
They have superstars, Shohay Otani, Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Muki Bats.
We could go on and on.
And then the Dodgers even have, and the worst part about the Mets loss was that wasn't even,
now, Otani and Bats played really well.
But the guys that really killed him were like Tommy Edmund and Kike Hernandez.
So I think this series will really come down to the auxiliary players on both offenses.
Who shows up?
Tiaska Hernandez had a really bad NLCS.
But if he can get going and then Kiki and Tommy continue, it's going to be difficult for the Yankees.
but the Yankees have better pitching.
I'm going to take Yankees in seven, unfortunately,
and I won't be going to the parade,
just like I didn't go to the Liberty parade this morning.
The WMBA, New York Liberty,
had the parade outside my apartment this morning,
and I did not attend.
How well was that attended?
Were there people in the streets for the Liberty?
I got to say, I wanted to wake up and make a video,
kind of like a jokey video.
There was a decent amount of people.
And it wasn't like, they didn't bust them in.
I don't think they bust them in either.
Was it the illegal immigrants in Times Square?
Is that what it was?
There was people with a lot of merch on.
I was like, all right.
And to be honest, it makes sense.
There are so many people in then also.
The Liberty have been selling out, they've been selling out their games for a few years now.
It's not just the Caitlin Clark effect.
But I did not go to that parade.
all right i take dodgers i'm gonna take dodgers i guess i'll go in seven to be safe um
it seems like it is always the auxiliary players it's always i mean you want your stars to perform
but when they do it always feels like they're just meeting expectations the difference maker
are the auxiliary players which i've never used that word before and i think it's great i love it
auxiliary players um so then the second prediction i'm asking for is MVP and like you said
ton of stars bets otani soto judge
Who's the MVP?
Where are the odds?
What do you place your bet for MVP?
For an MVP bet in this series,
I think I would kind of get a little crazy,
and I would look at a T. Oscar Hernandez.
I would look at a...
I wouldn't look at a Volpe, even though I am a fan of Volpe.
I don't know, but you kind of think of a guy.
Who can hit some big home runs deliver?
I think Todd...
If it's Yankees...
I think if your prediction is right at Soto.
I think if Soto plays like he has been,
I mean, that's how you get your Yankees in seven,
and I feel like it would be Soto.
Yeah, I was just like, I mean, for an MVP,
you kind of, you want to look at potentially some longer odds,
series player props.
I'm pulling them up now.
You know, like, like, series most MVP.
why can't I find this maybe it's for whatever reason I can't find it but the
MVP yeah I mean playoff leader this is a great radio by me right now um but they
can't I can't find it but I I would look for like a little stab that's about
above 10 to 1 so you're not gonna get a soda there if a gun to my head you're like
you have to pick the MVP and you're or you die I would take one
Soto. But in terms of like, if you want to place a bat, I would look like kind of in like
the Tommy Edmund. I mean, even I think a Gene Carlo may even get a nice little price
there. He's probably like in the 500 plus 500 plus 750 range, maybe even more. Because I mean,
Gene Carlos, it's almost hilarious. Like he was been not the biggest disappointment, but
kind of a disappointment for the Yankees, specifically this year. And then ever since he got into
the playoffs, he's turned into, I mean, this is one of the.
the best playoff runs for a Yankees player in a little bit.
I mean, I know A-Rod went crazy in 2009,
but I think it's, in terms of true numbers,
it's getting up there, and it's quite shocking.
And that goes to your point a good price.
You're right, I mean, you're going to get a return on Genecarlo's Stanton.
All right, let's turn to college football.
I know you're a college football fan, as am I.
Here's what I'm thinking about this week.
We're going to pick games, you and I,
which I'm going to lean heavily on college football this week instead of the
NFL, because as I've stated, a couple of times on this show, I'm way more into college football
this year than I am the NFL. And I think that's obviously in part because I'm such a fan of the
Texas Longhorns, but it's also, I just think it's more exciting. And here's what I was thinking
about, Jack, I counted up 29 teams, 29 teams halfway into the season here, who are sitting at one
loss and have a real shot, at least some shot at a 12-team playoff. Now, that's going to all change
starting this weekend because we're actually starting to play each other.
But, and I'm not going to rattle them all off, but it includes, you know, Army, Navy,
Boise State types, Notre Dame obviously is still in there despite that horrific loss.
And then in each of the power four conferences, you know, five teams still alive,
roughly in each conference with one loss.
And I don't know, it's, it's, this has made college football when you combine it with the 12th team
playoff way better i mean it's incredible right now i think yeah it's it's a fascinating topic i've
been debating it for so long in terms of the playoff what's better right because you list those
29 teams right and everyone's like oh march madness and whatnot but how many of these teams can
really win the national championship i would say it's probably around the same
that we came into previous years which is in six to eight maybe this year maybe this year
years a little bit more.
But I think it adds to, like in an NIL era and whatnot, adds to the kind of aspect of
teams are kind of rising up.
Like we see teams throughout the country are a lot better.
And like even you look at in Alabama, Georgia struggled this year.
And those teams have struggled in the past.
But then also, I mean, even the 512 game will be amazing.
6-11 and yeah so I'm very excited I think college football I usually think college football is a little bit better than the NFL and I'm a big NFL fan but I love college football this year's so interesting it'll be interesting to see in four to five years how we'll feel about this playoff but it is interesting because it's like okay Texas A&M for example or in LSU they both lost week one in previous years that might have been like nail on the call
often. Not 100%, but your climb back to the top was going to be really tough. Now they're
playing each other right this weekend and a huge, huge game, marquee game of this weekend in my
opinion and probably a lot of people's opinions. And I think that has a lot to do with the
cultural football playoff. And then like even look at Notre Dame Navy. Like that's, this is the
biggest Notre Dame versus Navy game. I don't know, since like the 40s, 50s.
Like, these guys, and like a playoff spot is on the line specifically for Notre Dame because they lose this one.
There's not a lot of, you look at their schedule.
It's like where are you going to prove yourself the rest of the way?
So it opens up a lot of interesting conversations that I think is overall good for the sport.
So I'm going to play this game with you then since you just said this, about eight or nine teams have an actual
shot at winning the national championship with 29 sitting at one loss now what i get excited about
and what makes me like college football better than the NFL and why i get more excited by
saturday than sunday is i'm actually interested in teams like sm u or pit who are sitting there
and theoretically have a shot at winning the acc right and getting into the college football
playoff and their control of their own destiny there's other teams like that as well i think you mentioned
A&M. Let's start there, actually. Do you think A&M is a team, again, one loss, in control of their
own destiny? Do they have a legitimate shot at winning the national championship? They're right
at that border. I think Wegman's not good enough. The key is to really have, but they have
close to the talent. But I think you match them up. I think their defense, like their
defensive line is disgusting. So you put them against, let's say, and I mean, that game in late
November, and I'm sure you're already thinking about it, is going to be, and I really hope,
Texas, they're both 10 and 1 at that point, and it's the first game in a while. And like,
there's a lot. And I know, like, I'm a classic Yankee, right? I grew up in the north and
whatnot. But, like, there's a lot of people who are big time college football fans that don't
understand Texas versus Texas A&M and how big of a deal it is.
And if our first game back is 10 and 1 versus 10 and 1, I think both those teams in terms
of like, if you actually had to rate teams from 1 to 25, not based on on field results,
but just like who are you going to favor in the game?
Texas is better.
But like Texas A&M is right around that 8 to 12 range, in my opinion.
So I think they could do it, but I don't think they have the quarterback when a Texas,
who is even more talented, they have more weapons
and their wide receiver core and whatnot.
Texas has a quarterback.
They have two.
Like I would take over Wegman without even,
like I wouldn't even think about it.
Like just right away, yes, yes.
Right.
So that category of team is that is part of the vein of college football
that I'm interested in.
So here's some others.
And I'm I ask you,
do you think they have a legitimate shot?
Clemson.
You think Clemson and the AC has a legitimate shot
win the national title.
Yes.
They're right in that Texas A&M range,
but I'd rather take Clemson because I think they have a phenomenal defense.
And I think K. Klubnink is kind of turning a corner.
It's going to be difficult, though, for them.
They're right at that.
Right.
Like, I think the ACC has three.
Or no, two.
It's Clemson and Miami.
Pitt, I understand.
Like, I think Pitt may lose tonight to Syracuse.
Like, I don't think they're that good.
like they're good don't get me wrong it's a great year for patin arduzzi and the pittsburgh panthers
but like they're not i would not i would not put miami i would not put miami i'm a little
stricter i don't think a nm can win the national title i don't think miami can win the national
title i'm pretty and i'm a fan of clemson um but i don't think they have the complete
package i also don't think i'm here going to ask you this one the big 12 champion and that
one's interesting as well. It's wide open. BYU, Iowa State. And then under that, the one lost
teams, they're undefeated like Kansas State. However good they are, whoever emerges,
they're just, in my mind, it's going to be hard to convince me they can make a run through a
playoff. Yeah, I don't, like, I mean, I just, I can't see it. I, uh, I think Kansas State's
the best team in that division, but, um, or that conference, I just don't see it from them. Um,
I think BYU, I mean, you even see it.
And, like, I mean, I know people think they'll look at Vegas and they'll roll their eyes,
the look at odds, the roll their eyes.
I mean, this is legitimate money that is, and there's millions and millions of dollars in these markets.
And, like, UCF is favored over BYU this weekend.
I know it's a UCF, but, I mean, I just don't think of UCF or BYU is that good.
Kansas State would be the best chance, but I think they would be the four seed, right?
and then and then the four seed would play would get a buy and then and then they'd play seven they'd play the
five the winner of the 512 yeah like I mean in the 512 maybe like Texas you know right or like
Georgia I mean I just like there's there's levels to this and I think uh Kansas state's not in that
that tier one last
last one, Notre Dame.
Yeah, I would say so.
They have some really tough injuries on their team.
They had a cornerback that just went down this week, or last week, that is an NFL
prospect.
They came into the season with a left tackle that was an NFL prospect, like first rounder
that is out.
And I, I'm really disappointed in how Riley Leonard has looked in terms of throwing the
football.
I think he's not bad, but, you know, I look at other teams, like,
and I just, I don't know if he has it.
I can give you quickly, like, my team so I think can win the national championship really quickly.
Yeah, go.
Georgia, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Penn State, Notre Dame.
And then we get into, so look,
I'm at six, and I was struggling a little bit.
And I don't agree on a few of those, I guess my list.
Did I say Alabama?
And that's, you did.
And I don't know that Alabama can.
And I don't, I don't know that Notre Dame can.
So then we're down to,
and I don't know the Penn State can.
And now we're down like four.
Right.
So it's like, we're down to four.
And that's, that's probably college football elitism.
That's probably, okay.
okay, you're a Texas Longhorn fan,
you're picking the big brands,
and I get it.
But I'm just unconvinced
of Pitt State's ability
to win the big game.
Alabama's already shown
huge vulnerabilities,
not just in the results,
but the way they play their games.
Oh, my God.
There's something wrong.
There is something wrong.
There is something wrong.
And on that note,
my friend,
Fox News contributor,
Outkick founder,
Clay Travis,
has been doing this conversation.
Caleb DeBoar,
regret leaving Washington?
And made me think about this.
Like,
obviously,
I don't think he probably does regret leaving Washington.
And I think he's probably going to be fine.
He's getting huge recruiting classes at Alabama.
But it's that whole maximum.
You don't want to follow the guy.
You want to follow the guy that follows the guy.
You know, and we've had the conversation about like,
did Max Kellerman really want to follow Skip Bayless?
And, you know, whatever it may be, you can look at it in life.
Do you want to follow, I don't know, Peyton Manning at Tennessee?
but the truth is the answer is yes you do because those opportunities we can do this like okay but it's a better life just to put 10 years in at at Washington 15 years in at Washington be the legend at Washington and I get that and I love that I like it when athletes do it like it like it when dirk stays 20 years with Dallas obviously I'm a homer on that but I like that trading teams for an athlete doesn't feel like the same thing but for a coach it's climbing a literal ladder and he had the opportunity to go to the top of the ladder and if he's ambitious at all you take it.
when the opportunity is there.
So yes, you don't regret leaving Washington for Alabama.
I think, and this is something I'd have to talk with with Clay,
because, I mean, like somebody like you, Clay,
like these are like incredibly ambitious individuals
that take opportunities.
And both you guys and other people, too, understand
Alabama doesn't come open a lot.
Also, the Alabama that's open after Nick Sabin is,
insanity. The cupboard is not bare. It's the opposite. You walk into a program. You don't really
have to rebuild. And I know they have, they've had two tough losses and whatnot. But still,
like, he walked in and kept because of the opportunities that Nick Saban did through recruiting
and the NIL and the boosters and whatnot. And he kept one of the most talented rosters in
college football. You can't do that at Washington. Like, you just can't. Like, he even probably
noticed it, and I think I mean, and I'm sure you even agree with this in a little bit of an
aspect. Like, I mean, there was an aspect of, like, Washington being lucky to beat even Texas
last year. And he probably looked at it and was like, man, like, there's levels to this.
there's levels to everything.
There's levels to facility, to NIL donors, to whatnot.
And I'm not trying to disrespect Washington in any way.
It's just, it's different.
And it's when Alabama comes open, you go and take it.
And if you're Kailin DeBore, you've lost, what, 13 games over the past 12 years of your coaching?
He's the most confident guy in the world.
Why wouldn't you be?
And you don't get to the point of even being.
Purdue's head coach, unless you are an incredibly ambitious person.
Like, there's so many roadblocks along the way where you're just like,
oh, I'll just spend more time with friends or family.
Like those, and that's cool.
Like some people like that.
But like to get to the top of college football, I mean, I went to Fordham.
And I went to Fordham in New York City.
And there was a gym.
And it was right in between the football, like where the head football coach was.
and then the, like, the offensive coordinators, the young guys, whatnot, grad assistants.
And so you, when you would go to the gym, you would see them.
And they were nice guys and whatnot.
And Fordham's a good FCS football program, but there's levels to this, right?
In terms of, like, I mean, like, they, Fordham played Bowling Green this year and lost by 33 points.
The amount of hours that even you put in at that point, when you're at four,
like it's investment banking hours with no pay so you like and think about how much and that's
even for grad assistants like that's not the head coach so the levels you have to take up like yeah
when Alabama calls it's like if you pay me my money I'm coming and and also it's a great point you're
already revealed to be ambitious it's part of your character so why would you not by the way my number
one rebuttal to Clay would be, Clay, you followed Rush Limbaugh.
Yeah, yeah.
You're probably on a top five list of guys who followed the guy.
Exactly.
Like, there's, and like, and I think Clayley, I think I would, like, and I don't want to say
he doesn't believe that because that's unfair.
I would just almost be like, let's talk about that because I don't know if you even
believe that.
Like, it makes complete sense.
Like, also, what's worse, right?
staying at Washington and being like a man and like oh you you bubble up a few years here and there
and it's like and it's like I could have been the Alabama coach but if you go to Alabama
and it doesn't work out I mean like look at like how many coaches get fifth chances like this
he would be on his second chance and also nobody in the coaching community with you know this
the fraternity of the coaching community is insane with the ADs and whatnot nobody
in this country and in that world would blame him unless he does something really insane
for not succeeding after Nick Saban one of the hardest jobs out there but that's why he's
getting paid what 10 million dollars like it's like right like what are we talking about
right take the it doesn't work out let's play will versus the somewhere else
yeah he gets his check from Alabama and he gets a job somewhere else it's not the
end of his road.
All right, let's play Will versus the experts.
I do this every week.
Pick five games.
Games I'm going to watch, Jack.
James I want to watch.
They're not me trying to find the best bets out there.
But games I'm interested anyway, and so let's make it a little more interesting.
For college, one pro this week.
Let's start with the game that's been mentioned, Notre Dame at Navy.
Notre Dame is giving up 13 and a half.
this game's so difficult because it's like this game is so it's so fascinating because
if you i i almost would like i i can't because like i mean it's a huge production and whatnot
but like i'd almost want to go on the field and like look at the difference between
notary name's offensive line and navy's defensive line is like it's varsity versus jv same
in terms of the flip, but that's Navy's game.
They're always smaller.
They're always, and they, so what do they do?
They run a system that is essentially like, we're going to confuse the hell out of you.
You've never played anything against anything like this.
Yeah, you played against top tier offense, but you've never played against something like this.
And then we're going to run the ball down your throat until the end of the game.
And if you don't want to play that game, we will break you.
But then again, it's like the talent on Notre Dame, like, it's just insane.
Memphis drops 44 on them.
I think Memphis has a similar offense to Notre Dame, but it's like, how many points is Notre Dame going to score?
But then it's like this offense for Navy, I was sure early in the week I was going to take Notre Dame.
Right now, my gut's telling me, Notre Dame, a team who struggled to put up points against Northern Illinois and Miami of Ohio.
won't score enough points to cover the number,
so I'm going to take Navy.
And I think it's just...
That's...
So that's what I'm going to do.
It's the number.
So I'm taking Navy plus the 13 and a half.
I just don't think Notre Dame's offense has shown
they're going to put up that many points to cover that.
So give me Navy.
Missouri taking on Alabama at Alabama,
coming off their loss to Tennessee,
but Alabama's favored by 16.5.
Jack, I went back and forth on this one because I just don't...
I think Alabama's flawed.
and they have not blown people out.
They've played so many of these games.
But then on the other hand,
Missouri's quarterback is hurt.
He may or may not play.
Like, I, man, I've gone back and forth on this.
It's the 16.5 points.
It's not, do I think Missouri is going to win?
I don't think they're going to beat Alabama.
But if I give them 16.5, do they hang within that?
Come back and forth.
I'm going to stick with the points.
I'm going to stick with Missouri.
So, Brady,
Cook's not playing, and Drew Pine is going to be their starting quarterback.
Drew Pine from New Canaan, Connecticut.
I think he's not good.
I don't know how they're really going to score.
Now, Brady Cook's doubtful.
I didn't know Brady Cook was for sure out.
Is he for sure out?
Now, don't get me wrong.
We've seen this before.
They play little games in the media and whatnot and say it's doubtful.
And then it's like, oh, Brady Cook's coming in.
I would assume that number reflects he's not going to play.
And I think it's just a good kind of by-low spot on Alabama.
So I'm going to take Alabama here.
I just like, I don't know Drew Pine's going to have some really difficult.
I mean, even Josh Heiple and Nico I'm 11,
a team that's like offensively really head scratcher at this point in the season
where it's like, how are you guys not scoring more?
And Nico just throws the ball over.
Like, if you put on a Tennessee quarterback jersey and you can throw the ball 100 yards,
you just, like, throw the ball over your wide receivers nonstop.
Joe Milton must have taught him that.
But even there, Alabama's defense looked pretty good.
So, but then it's like, this is so tough with college football.
It's like Alabama allowed 42 points, the Vanderbilt.
But I'm going to take Alabama.
Well, you just talked to me into it.
I didn't know.
So if Brady Cook's not playing, then I'm going over to the Alabama side of this bet.
Texas Vanderbilt.
It's in Nashville.
Vanderbilt's getting 18 and a half.
It's just, I think, like, the Texas players are too, like, they're just too, there's just so much better.
It's a lot of points.
It's almost, it's a lot of points, but I just think, like, and I know Isaiah Bonds in this
weird kind of
a situation where he's like questionable
he plays and then he's still questionable
he's been but like I mean
Texas has probably four to five guys
Diego Pavia
magic
I think it runs out
no like it runs out
it runs out yeah it just watch this
I'm taking Vanderbilt plus the points
Texas will win but I'm nervous
I'm feeling nervous
I have the minute they beat Alabama and I
saw that quarterback. That quarterback looks like the kind of thing. I've seen it happen with Texas
where one guy, one quarterback, K-State ran through like four of them in a row where it's
like, we're better, but that guy, we can't stop that quarterback. And I feel like he's kind of that
guy. Texas is a win, but I'm basically taking Diego Pafia plus 18. 18 and a half. I don't blame
you. I mean, it's not, it's not an easy one for me. LSU, A&M, we talked about it earlier. It's at
college station, and that means
at A&M, although they're ranked 12th and LSU's
ranked 8th, A&M is giving up
two and a half. I'm going to take
LSU because
I know A&M looked good last week,
but Wegman did not look good before. I know he was supposedly
fighting some injury, and they just
were kind of lost there for a little bit offensively
until like last week.
So I'm going to stick with LSU's
consistency on this and go LSU over A&M.
Now,
LSU's
like Brian Kelly's so frustrating on the road.
I mean, like his road, home road splits since he's been at LSU, have been really
concerning.
That being said, though, I just think this, like the weapons that LSU have, and it's a shame
that their top running back got injured, but they still are decent at running back.
But I really think Garrett Nussmeyer is a really good quarterback.
And with Kieran Lacey out there, Anderson, and then I'm forgetting the other wide
receiver's name.
But these, like, they, I think that's always going to keep them in the game.
And I think they're going to handle it.
But that being said, this is going to be one of the more raucous environments of teams.
And I know this is insane to say ever played in in college football.
I think this is going to be like if you had to rank raucous environments throughout time, top 100, this one will be within it.
It's at night.
Kyle Field.
Kyle Field is insanity.
And these fans, and you know it.
And there's like, here's the thing.
with being a little bro, like a little brother,
when you do get some confidence,
you get a hundred times more loud than you've ever been.
And I know it's not turned out well for Texas A&M
when they have had confidence and always falls apart.
And I know you're a Texas guy.
And I just like the rivalry.
I kind of enjoy the chaos.
But this band base, like I would assume the economy of Texas,
Like, if you're trying to call for some oil right now throughout the Texas area, like, no one's picking up.
They're already playing, like, no one's talking anything but football right now in that area.
And I think these fans are going to be insane on Saturday night.
I'm so excited for it.
It's a main event.
I think that was last weekend with Georgia in Austin and F1 in Austin.
Everything felt like it was happening in Texas.
A&M, I saw, first of all, I won a list of 100 most rock.
environments in all of sports.
I want that list.
Well, do you know?
And that would be really hard to compile.
Really hard.
RG3.
Do you know what place he said was the most raucous environment he ever played in?
What?
Rensselaerfield.
Ain't him?
No, no.
Rensler Field, East Hartford, Connecticut,
Yukon against Baylor on a Friday night.
I was there.
I was there.
And he said it was the loudest he's ever played in the stadium.
in his entire life.
He said nothing compared.
So that's in the top hundred.
No,
RG3 was spitting there.
He was spitting there.
RG3.
RG3 says things.
By the way, speaking of a little brother,
I saw an A&M guy wearing a shirt this week.
I saw it on social media.
It said,
welcome to the SEC 3015,
and then it had a longhorn
with his horn sought off.
A&M was bragging about Georgia's win over Texas
saying welcome to the SEC.
No, it's amazing.
Texas A&M, and I mean, we could spend probably five hours talking about the Texas A&M Colt, that is.
But I love them.
I admire it a little bit.
I admire it.
If my son went to A&M, even though I'm a Texas fan, if my son went to A&M, I could live with myself.
I could do it.
The way they never give up.
the amount of pain that fan base has been through and they show up every weekend
and I know there's been some down times and whatnot where it's not like they have $110,000
every weekend but man they get four wins and they're like Natty we're going to the
it's like you guys haven't even made the college football a play out
last one of people who always the reputation is always think they're going to
the Super Bowl when they win four games, it's the Dallas Cowboys.
So obviously I'll be tuned in for this game.
I think everybody will.
I think this is a good matchup, Cowboys Niners in San Francisco, Niners minus four.
Cowboys coming off a buy.
They were awful two weeks ago, awful.
And this is why I hate NFL.
And I don't, meaning picking games.
I absolutely hate picking games in the NFL.
hate it because
who knows
Cowboys have a bye week
maybe they figure something out
I'm tempted to take the Cowboys
I'm going to take the Cowboys
Plus 4
Yeah
I will die
Being a Dak Prescott believer
Oh I didn't know that about you
Yeah no I will die
Being a DAC guy
And I also will die
As saying
one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL's ever seen that never won
a Super Bowl is Tony Romo and I don't know what it is but I'm a now I'm a Jets fan so it's
like you know I just like it's not like I'm a Cowboys fan or whatnot but both those guys
like I feel there is sometimes with Dak where it's like you wanted to throw like the
phone at the screen but he is yeah so and but I'm going to take the Cowboys too I think
like they're a frustrating team but it's just like man if the cowboys get going like you never
know and i think um i'm going to take them here and i think the the 49ers are in a really
tough spot i mean it's not something funny on twitter like the 49ers healthiest wide receiver
right now was shot in like his chest four weeks ago or eight weeks ago that's right like that's like
like it's a conundrum but it is true and obviously george kittles their best receiver right
out, but true wide receiver.
Ricky Pearsall, like, I mean, this man almost, almost, like, was severely hurt from a robbery
in the great city of San Francisco.
The great city of San Francisco.
Yeah, no.
The big city, great city of San Francisco.
All right, Jack McGuire, you can check him out.
He's the host of Spinning Backfist.
He does.
College Football, UFC, betting.
gambling, everything over there at Barstool Sports.
Check him out on X at Jack Mac CFB.
It's been fun, Jack.
Glad to get to know you, ma'am.
Thank you.
Yeah, you check me out on Instagram, TikTok, too.
But this was a lot of fun.
I had a lot of fun discussing everything from, like, we really covered a lot of topics here.
And it was in a quick, it was a quick 50-minute sprint, but it was, like, we covered
a lot from who we should have children with to.
the cult that is Texas A&M.
Did you know that the milkmen...
That's a good conversation.
Did you know that the milkmen
grab their testicles?
Have you heard about this?
No.
The Texas NAP...
What are you talking about?
Have you heard about this?
Oh, the milkmen.
I've never heard them called...
No.
Oh, really?
I saw the Texas Tech cheerleader.
Yeah, they're for sure they look like milkmen.
Yeah.
Do you know that, like, historically,
as recently as like 2008
Texas A&M and like the
the male cheerleaders
yell leaders sorry
and it's about like mail
the yell leaders were the original pronoun police
it was like no I'm not a he
like they were like no we're not male cheerleaders
we're yell leaders
they if you look it up and I swear to God
just look it up on your phone to pop up right away
even on YouTube
there was a tradition with the yell leaders
that when Texas A&M were struggling or they were on defense and it was a big play
or like they were dry, the other team was driving and it was late in the game,
they would grab their testicles so they would feel pain with the players that are on the field.
This is not a bit.
Now that you say it, I can picture them doing it.
I can picture them grabbing it, but I've never heard the why, the feel pain part.
I can picture them doing that, but the feel pain's new to me.
There's photos.
They like to deny.
this part of their history, but it's real.
It is, it is real.
Like, they put this in their, like, yearbooks and whatnot.
Like, this is, this is real.
All right, Jack McGuire.
Good to see you, man.
Thank you.
All right.
See ya.
There you go.
I hope you enjoyed that conversation with Jack McGuire at Barstool Sports.
Again, check him out on X, Jack Mac, CFB, and Instagram, and TikTok.
