Starting point is 00:02:08 Will Cain Show. So Tommy, how's it going? I know that I don't know how many days you're in, but you're like into the process of convincing yourself that you have to try, adopt, and like Diet Coke. Yes, correct. So this is day, uh, today we're be day seven or day six um yeah you know it's a new year's resolution i take my new year's resolutions very seriously uh and i always see people talking about diet coke how much they love diet coke and it makes me feel left out and there's nothing i hate more than being left out of something and so when i see people be like oh my little taste of joy diet coke at 2 30 i said i want that i want to feel that joy so i've been trying to get myself to like it the issue is i don't
Starting point is 00:02:57 Well, wait, are you a soft drink guy? Do you have something you're trying to replace with Diet Coke? No, I like, like regular Coke, Coca-Cola. I'm not a huge soda drinker. Like, you know, I'm not going to have it every day, but I'll treat myself once in a while. I'm not cutting out regular Coke. I honestly think regular Coke's, I think Diet Coke's probably worse for you than regular Coke. That's what people say, like with all the chemicals and stuff, but I don't know.
Starting point is 00:03:22 I'm not a huge soft drink guy either. I quit when I was in high school because I, like, wanted to. faster myself as a big time high school athlete and that's one of the things you had to do when you know older people like me like we didn't know about creotin until college or whatever else we're doing now protein diet it was just like hey you should cut out soft drinks which i did and honestly i never missed them like of course i started drinking gatorade which is a bottle full of sugar sugar but um i never missed soft drinks i'll do it like you like as a treat here and there it's not like nicotine for me i can't have a treat of nicotine because then i have a treat of nicotine because
Starting point is 00:03:57 is then I have a treat all day long. But I can have a soda here or there. But, I mean, if I'm ranking them, Dr. Pepper is the best. But, again, because I'm old, I'm like, well, I got to watch what I eat. And so I'll do a diet Dr. Pepper and I'll do a Diet Coke, but I don't compare them against the thing that they're trying to become. Like, it's not Diet Coke versus Coke to me. I'm not choosing between the two.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I'm doing something that has less sugar. You're probably right, more chemicals. But, you know, theoretically is not as bad for me as just the full leaded diesel Coke. Yeah, I mean, I'm probably in my, like I feel like in the new year, a lot of people, they try to eat healthier and to break habits, bad habits. I am starting the new year trying to get myself addicted to something that might not be very healthy to me, but, you know, teach their own. But yeah, no, like there's, like you go to a movie theater, I'm getting a cherry Coke, a huge thing, a cherry Coke. I'm having a slice of pizza. I want to wash that down with a Coke.
Starting point is 00:04:55 There's times where I'm not, you know, there's people that drink soda every day, like to have it for dinner every day. I'm not like that. But there's certain things. You need that. You need that. Just a can of Coke. Oh, delicious. Hey, speaking of vices, I think I asked you this.
Starting point is 00:05:11 I think I asked you this last time we were together. Did you quit vaping, but you're doing, or maybe, maybe it was Jack McQuire told me, are you Lucy? Because that's like you're, you know, the bar store brand of, yeah. But I don't. Yeah. Are you, are you, you don't do that? I do it sometimes. So my New Year's resolution is I'm only, another one,
Starting point is 00:05:32 is I'm only allowed to do it if I'm drunk. So because there's times where you, like, I don't know why when I'm like, you know, I have some drinks. I crave a Lucy. I like putting a Lucy in. But if I'm sober, so if I'm drunk, they don't count. If I'm sober, no, I don't do it too much.
Starting point is 00:05:50 But if I do, I prefer Lucy. Lucy is for those who don't know the nicotine pouch competitor was Zen or Alp or one of these others yeah yeah that's my that's my life struggle right there okay uh let's talk sports man I you're a northeasterner so I never know with you guys like where you are on college football I mean did you just kind of exempt it from your life and now you don't follow it or you're a college football guy that's all I'm focused on this weekend Tommy right so I'm locked in the NFL playoffs. See, like, I, I, I, no college football?
Starting point is 00:06:27 I'll watch them. Like, they're on. I'll watch them. But, like, I'm a pretty casual college football, like, very casual college football fan. Because, like you said, I grew up on Long Island. There's no, like, Rutgers and Syracuse, I guess, are the, the biggest, uh, close teams. I went to Fordham in the Bronx. That's an FCS team.
Starting point is 00:06:47 So never really got into the culture. Like, through work now, I've been able to. go to a bunch of different college football games and atmospheres, and it's awesome, but it would be weird for me at, you know, 28 to just pick up, like, I don't have my roots cultured in, like, a college football team. I think when you don't have a team that you're really passionate about, it becomes harder to follow the sport as a whole. Have you been to, I mean, you've been with Barstow for a while, have you been to a college
Starting point is 00:07:12 football game? Have you been to a home? Forget the bowls or the championship. You've been to a home game somewhere? Yeah, I've been to Michigan. Ohio State, Texas, Florida State, a decent ham. I mean, the atmosphere is awesome. There's no denying it.
Starting point is 00:07:30 That's what I'm getting at. Like, it's contagious. And look, I'm an NFL fan as well. It's like, lately, I'd say the last five years, three years. I mean, college football has surpassed it. But this is all personal. This is because the Longhorns are good, and they've been in the semifinals two years in a row.
Starting point is 00:07:49 At the same time, the Cowboys are atrophic. but so I like I watch wildcard NFL weekend but I just don't have a dog in the fight so there's no passion in it for me where I'm totally wrapped up in Friday night and tonight for that matter Notre Dame Penn State this is yeah I'm born and raised I went to law school at UT yeah I'm a huge Longhorn fan oh so yeah then obviously yeah I'm rooting for him yeah and I don't feel I don't feel super confident I mean I think Ohio State is a monster so um and it's one of those don't you think it's true like sports the best sports seasons are the seasons that exceed expectations period that doesn't mean a championship you have to exceed expectations you fall
Starting point is 00:08:32 below expectations and the problem is like you're a yankee fan your expectations are always high so you lose in the first round of the playoffs that's a bad season for you like my favorite seasons have been probably due to the dallas mavericks the texas rangers a few years ago because like came out of nowhere can't believe it look at us we're winning um longhorns are right at that level right now of meeting expectations. Like if they had lost last weekend, it's below, it's a sad season. If they go further than this, even if they lost in the championship game, it would be a good season and I'd look back on it fondly.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Yeah, I like Texas because I went there, well, you know, went there for a game and didn't go to school there. And I like the atmosphere there. And then I'm a Giants fan, so I'm just drawn to the Manning family. If I could be frank with you, what I'm rooting for, if you're like, hey, Tommy, you get to decide what happens in this game. I want Ohio State to get up big early. Quinn Ewers to go.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Not a bad injury, but he comes out of the game. Arch Manning comes in, drives Texas to a victory, and, like, they beat Ohio State. That, to me, is that's theater, as they say. That's drama. Like, I'm watching college football. I'm rooting for storylines. That storyline, to me, is tough to beat. And I'm sure you take that.
Starting point is 00:09:47 My producers think this is my worst take. I like Quinn. He's a good college quarterback. I want to see Arch. I don't want Quinn benched. I don't even want a job share. I want like 20% of the plays for Arch. By the way, if you're a Manning fan,
Starting point is 00:10:04 I don't know. You probably already do know all this, but you're going to love Arch. Like I think of all the guys that we know, the famous Manning's, he might have the best personality and the most fun game of all of them, meaning like he can run the ball.
Starting point is 00:10:19 You know, Peyton's funny. So on the whole personality front, it's tough. By the way, Eli's funny, as it turns out as well. So, but Archie seems like a good dude. Yeah, I mean, he's a Gen Z. Manning. Like, he's a Manning who grew up with TikTok and like social media. Like he, he, and I think having like Cooper as his dad is also a cool storyline where it's like, if he's just one of their kids, it's still cool, but like the fact that he comes from, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:46 the brother, the lame duck brother that everybody makes fun of. It's the perfect sports story. I want it to be the Giants quarterback next year. Like, I'm in full. I want the Giants to tank again in 2025. I know people are saying Arch is probably going to stay for two years, but I want Arch. I feel like if the Giants suck again and they have the number one pick, Arch will come out. They'll make him come out.
Starting point is 00:11:07 They'll be like, Arch, you get your ass to New York. Well, you know, by the way, I don't know if he's going to stay one or two years to that point. Well, here's what you do. you you stink and because you can't project how much you're going to be stinking into the future and when Arch comes out you start stacking first round picks so trade this one away
Starting point is 00:11:27 you know what I mean so that in a couple years you've got two first round picks with the ammunition to jump up I mean if Arch is who everybody thinks he's going to be you might not be able to because the number one overall pick is just going to go him and no one's going to trade it away but that's what I'd do I'd start stacking up ammunition
Starting point is 00:11:43 I would do that I mean the Giants are like I almost think the end NFL at this. It's crazy it sounds because the quarterback is so important, but the quarterback almost has to come last. Like, I feel like the best teams have they've built up the rest of their team, and then you get your quarterback towards the end because you get them on their rookie deal before they're making, you know, $65 million a year. Like, your most success is going to come when you have a really talented other roster, and then you have a quarterback in like year three, four. The issue is the Giants have almost no good players. Like, it's, it's, it's, it's,
Starting point is 00:12:17 one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. They have almost zero talent on their roster. It's baffling. And so I feel like they've just got to get a few more guys who can play football before they take a quarterback. Hopefully, Art. Well, I don't know if you're going to pick games, but since you're an NFL guy and you said you're locked in on Wild Car Weekend, which is, it's, okay, you pick them. By the way, Wild Card Weekend, I'm tempted to say it's the best week in the NFL, it's probably not. It's probably next weekend. It's the second round, the divisional round of the playoffs. I think it's the best weekend in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:12:49 But there's six games. Let's do this quick together then. Let's do this. Bill's Broncos. And by the way, I'm going to do the line because it's Bill's minus eight and a half. I think the bills win, but I think the Broncos keep it close.
Starting point is 00:13:01 I'd take the points. Yeah. So I actually, if I only have one, I love the over here, 46 and a half. I think the Bill's offense is unreal. And I think Bo Nix is kind of the real deal, too.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Like, I think the bills are going to get at least 30. points and then you're saying can the Broncos score you know 17 i think they can i would take the broncos as well i think i think they'll keep it close like a 30 to 24 game or something like that i think the i love bo necks i love watching him play um you know he's a guy i feel like it was in college for 10 years or so uh but yeah i think the bills will beat them but sean peyton is a really good coach too i think that they could they could keep it closer i think you like have the bills in the fourth quarter be like uh oh just one they'll have one little um
Starting point is 00:13:45 Uh-oh. Speaking of Bo Nix, being in college for 10 years, I did see, I don't know this was on my Instagram feed or something, Belichick talking about Bo Nix, because he's like the perfect Belichick-style quarterback. He wants somebody that's taken X amount of snaps, right, who's already played a lot of football. And the rumors are already Belichick, I don't know what, Raiders.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I don't, but like, is he the North Carolina coach for what will it add up to a month? I think he's going to stay. I mean, yeah, I saw that, too, where it was like Brady's going to try to get him to coach the Raiders, but I don't know. I think, I almost, I know people are like, oh, Belichick has to go get the record for wins of Don Shula. To me, like, that's such an arbitrary, like, that's such like a, who cares? Like, Bill Belichick's already in my book, like the greatest NFL coach of all time, like an arbitrary number of wins doesn't matter. I think if he really wants to add to his legacy, going to college and. building up a college football program,
Starting point is 00:14:45 then I think that adds to as I can see more than going to the Raiders and winning, you know, 15 games over two years. Oh, well, because it's so hard, I don't think he can do it, North Carolina. Like, I can't imagine he's jumping into this pool that Sabin's like, I can't swim in these waters. It's changed too quickly. But it's kind of funny, you bring that, he's not chasing Shula. He's chasing Sabin.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Like, he's shoving all the different chess pieces off the board, right? The only other chess piece on the board when it comes to greatest coach of all time is Sabin, But then you have to go, well, college coach versus pro coach. Who's the best college coach of all time? Sabin. Who's the best pro coach, Belichick? If he goes to North Carolina and make some respectable, like, nine and three, then now you're like best coach.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Hey, he did it in both. It's like Messi Ronaldo. Yeah, but until Messi won the most recent World Cup, it's like, yeah, but Ronaldo's won everywhere he's gone. Belichick will have that on his resume. What do you think as like a bigger, you know, college football guy? what would you say is a success would be like if bill check achieves this like is it making the playoffs then it's like well then forget it that's the ultimate success i mean because winning
Starting point is 00:15:52 the championship i assume is pretty unlikely pretty unlikely yeah i think if he takes him to a 12 team playoff yeah absolutely i think then now you're like look at belichick he did it everywhere he went yeah that would be awesome uh ravens stealers ravens nine and a half. I also, same thing as Bill's Broncos for me. Ravens win the game. Steelers keep it closer than nine and a half. I, so this is, I hate betting against Mike Tomlin. I think he's one of the best coaches in football, especially as a dog. He always covers. But watching the Steelers the last month, I just don't know if they can move the football enough to keep up with the Ravens. I like the Ravens here. They're my Super Bowl pick, actually. I think this is finally
Starting point is 00:16:42 Lamar's year. Now, this could just be because I'm seeing, I don't know if you're seeing any these TikTok edits, but they're unbelievable. Maybe I'll send you one. It like starts with the chiefs celebrating. Like it starts like Travis Kelsey dressed as Santa and it's playing like, I'm feeling 22, like some, some Taylor Swift song. And then it just goes, bam. And it's like Lamar Jackson and with like this insane hype music behind them. And it's like, please save us, Lamar please save us like everybody's like last year was you know I don't know if you're an Avengers guy but it's like last year was Infinity War this year's end game like Lamar is finally doing it this year and maybe this is a bad way to bet football but I'm seeing
Starting point is 00:17:23 enough of these TikTok hype edits or I'm like Lamar Jackson is doing it this year like they're giving me goosebumps TikTok hype edits yeah yeah whatever whatever team gets more TikTok hype edits is where my money's going I got to go check out the Bill's high bet it's now because if I'm picking between Ravens and bills to take down the chiefs, I am going to go with Josh Allen and the bills. And you know the reason for that. I mean, ESPN has told us is because I'm a racist because I think Josh Allen should be MVP and that he'll take down Patrick Mahomes instead of Lamar Jackson.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Well, then I'm a racist. But I actually do think it's time for Allen. I do. That's the only drawback, obviously, with betting on the Ravens is Lamar is black, so we can't do that. Yeah. Right. Right. By the way, Northeast guy, I asked you if you've been to all these college campuses
Starting point is 00:18:13 and home games. I say this. I'm not doing a name dropping thing, but I feel at some point I feel weird because I say it so often. My nephew plays for Clemson. My in-laws are super big college football fans. For some reason, they went to a Steelers game recently, and my sister-in-law was like, this is a college atmosphere. Like, of all the NFL games have ever been to, a Steelers game, and I know this isn't in Pittsburgh this game but it's a college atmosphere in Pittsburgh like you go to bars and it feels like a college bar everybody's got the flags up and everything
Starting point is 00:18:44 and as much attention as the Cowboys get and again I'm a Cowboys fan it's not the same kind of passion like there's a lot of Cowboys fans but there's not the depth I would volunteer there's not the depth of a Steelers fan I lived in New York Tommy for 15 years
Starting point is 00:18:58 so I'm not going to give it to you Giants fans I don't think you have a lot more passion than Dallas fans but Pittsburgh and there's a a few places like that that's like a college. Green Bay, I would say, is up there, too. Like, that's all they have in that town is just the Packers. Yeah, I've never been to
Starting point is 00:19:15 a Steelers game. I have some friends in Pittsburgh and they say, yeah, it is like, the fall there is fantastic. I think there are teams where, like, when cities just, I don't want to say, but like the Bills, I think Bills Mafia is like a college atmosphere, the tailgating. Oh, yeah. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:19:31 the Giants and Jets do not. Like, I've said, like, you would have to pay me to go to a Giants game. I want to take free tickets. Because MetLife Stadium is, have you been? Yes, several times. And I know where you're going. I hope you're going where I think you're going. Yeah, the traffic's awful if you want to drive. The train is awful. The stadium itself is just a bunch of concrete. There's no character there. Personally, like, I'd much rather sit on my couch on NFL Sunday, have my laptop up, check the other scores, check my fantasy team, my bets. It's like going to a, and the Giants are awful, which is another big part of it.
Starting point is 00:20:08 You'd have to pay me maybe $500 to $1,000 to go to a Giants game on a Sunday. You know, I talked about this when they awarded the World Cup final because I think it came down to Dallas and AT&T where the Cowboys play versus MetLife. And MetLife got it because, hey, it's New York. And if you're traveling from Spain and Portugal, you want to go to Dallas, you want to go to New York. But the truth is, it's a horrible venue. To your point, it's hard to get in and out of. of the stadium has no character and met life was built i believe within a year or two maybe the same year as at t and t now i don't know if you've been to the cowboy stadium but it's awesome
Starting point is 00:20:45 like it is it's 20 years old now and it is i would say if not it's probably the second best stadium in the nfli in la um it's nice there's good food it's easy to walk around it looks good on TV and in person. I went to Allegiant for the Super Bowl last year in Las Vegas, which is brand new. And I was like, 20-year-old AT&T is better than this. So I don't know what the Maras and the Roonies are doing
Starting point is 00:21:13 or whoever built MetLife, but you built at the same time, and you lost the memo. It has no character. It's not a nice stadium. It boggles one. I haven't been to Jerry's world, but I've seen, obviously, watch games there.
Starting point is 00:21:27 It does, nothing about MetLife Stadium would make you think it was. built in the last 50 years. It's bizarre. Yeah. Okay. This one, this game is, I believe, every year the one o'clock game on Saturday, the Houston Texans.
Starting point is 00:21:44 If they're in the playoffs, they get the one o'clock game on Saturday. And they're playing the Chargers. It's Chargers minus three. This one, I take the favorite. I lay the points. I like the Chargers a lot. Yeah, this is probably my favorite play at the weekend. I love the Chargers here.
Starting point is 00:21:58 Texans this year are just, I like. the Texans like I like C-Day Stratt like Tamiko Ryans but I'm not letting myself get fooled by them again like they no no tankdale now um obviously no digs I think that Chargers I like Jim Harbaugh on the playoffs they'll go in there they'll run the football um I think they win comfortably I'm gonna lean on you for this because I didn't look at the news before we did this is Jalen Hertz playing so Green Bay Wisconsin it is Philadelphia minus four and a half is probably for Hertz I'd be I'd be stunned if he doesn't play i think i actually thought he's even out of concussion protocol but he'll play okay then i'm
Starting point is 00:22:37 taking philly and laying the points i like the packers i don't i this is maybe because i have a graph king's uh packers super bowl future before the uh season uh so i i'm maybe just rooting with with the bet here but i like the packers what they did in the i mean to your cowboys last year in the playoffs like that first round same thing seven two matchup going to the nfc east winter uh I just liked them in the playoffs, and they were bad down the stretch, but I think they could turn it on. And the Eagles are really good, and this could be because I hate the Eagles, too. But I just, I like Jordan Love a lot.
Starting point is 00:23:12 I hate the Eagles. I love Sequin. I'm sorry for you. I'm sorry for you. I'm sorry for you Giants fans. I mean, I love Sequan. It doesn't bother me, to be honest. And really? Yeah, like, because the Giants were so bad with, like,
Starting point is 00:23:25 if Sequan was on the Giants this year, maybe they would have won one or two more games. Like, it, I still am okay letting him go, and I, I don't have an issue with him. It's just to the Eagles. Yeah, I mean, really? I hate the Eagles. I wish you went somewhere else. I wish you went somewhere else, but like, it is what it is at this point. I hate the, do you hate the Eagles more than you hate the Giants?
Starting point is 00:23:48 Yes. Okay, because, yeah, I hate the Eagles more than I hate the Cowboys. So that's, there's just something. I don't know why that is. Yeah, they're just feeling. I mean, it's obviously the fan base. a part of it is the fan base um i respect oh yeah yeah it's syriani the cowboys in the eagles have been good at the same time as well so like in the 90s it was buddy ryan versus jimmy johnson
Starting point is 00:24:12 and then later we i just feel like we've met the eagles too many times when it mattered uh so that ramps up the hate but when i say i hate eagles fans i actually respect them that level of insanity. I respect. So, but again, I lived in New York for 15 years. I don't ever remember a passionate debate with a Giants fan. In part because we were never
Starting point is 00:24:36 like, it's like, we're good, you're bad or vice versa. I haven't and by the way, it used to be the Redskins. But I don't have feelings about the Redskins anymore. I have no feeling towards them. Yeah, the only one I could think of is the, the, they played in the playoffs in the 07
Starting point is 00:24:52 Giant Super Bowl run. Romo, yeah. The quarterback, but, I mean, I was like 11 at the time. And I mean, at that point, it's 20 years ago. Other than that, yeah, it's like, I would almost borderline say, I don't even really hate the Cowboys that much. Like you said, the Giants are so bad where it's hard to just, you know, it's hard to hate anybody but the Giants.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Back to the Packers, I think you're optimistic. They destroyed the Cowboys last year, but that's not the team we saw this year. And Jordan Love was one of my fantasy quarterbacks. and I just couldn't. He was good, but he was never great. He was never like, oh, Jordan Love is going to win me, my fantasy game, or the Packers, their real game.
Starting point is 00:25:34 And so, I don't know. I think the Eagles are a behemoth. Josh Jacobs, though, they're running game this year's way better. Yeah, right. Yeah, that's fair, yeah. Speaking of the Redskins, commanders, buccaneers, this one's tough. This might be the toughest prediction of the weekend because... Like, I love Jaden Daniels.
Starting point is 00:25:55 I think he's great. I'd hate to bet against him because you don't know when he's just going to take over. But you could almost say the same thing about Baker at this point. And it's, I'm slow to get on the full. Like, I was an early Baker guy at ESP. When I was at ESPN, I was an early Baker guy. And then it just kind of all went away. And now it's back.
Starting point is 00:26:14 I don't know. I think I'm going commanders. And by the way, you get points. You get three. Bucks are favored. Yeah, I'm very torn on this one. This is another one where I like the over. Both these offenses, just high score on 51 points.
Starting point is 00:26:26 You know, we're looking at like 27, 24 or something. I think that's doable. The bucks score like 30 points every game. I would go with the bucks here. I think they're just a rookie quarterback in the playoffs. Just tough. But if there is a guy who could break that trend, it would be Jane and Dano because I do think he's really special. But I don't know, I just think the bucks were, you know, just really good this year.
Starting point is 00:26:49 It'll continue to just be, you know, at least good enough to win one playoff game. but that's a tough. Are you, as an NFC East Guide, do you think we're set up here for the next five or six years of, for the first time and forever, it's going to be dominated by the commanders? Like, I don't think the Eagles stay where they are
Starting point is 00:27:05 for much longer. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the commanders have like a setback next year. I feel like that happens a lot where a team has a really good year and then, you know, they get the hard first plate, or they didn't even come in first place, actually, but they get a harder schedule
Starting point is 00:27:19 and then they take a little step back. But I do think, yeah, Jada Danes is the real deal. He's unfortunately quite the real deal. But the commanders are also just like a cursed franchise where I wouldn't be stunned if for whatever reason it falls apart. We thought the same thing with RG3 too. Yeah, I was going to say, yeah, something like an RG3. Okay, last game then I want to ask you about Tommy Smokes, the dating game.
Starting point is 00:27:44 Last game is Minnesota, Los Angeles Rams. It is in L.A., but maybe moved to Arizona because of the fires. Minnesota is favored by one I think I'm taking the Vikings they're really hard to even though their record I don't that's a hard team to bet on against another really good team
Starting point is 00:28:04 but I'm going to do it I'm going to take the Vikings this is the toughest game for me I was I had finally bought into the I know it sounds crazy but I finally bought into the Vikings when they were 14 and 2
Starting point is 00:28:16 all year I was like this team they're frauds their frauds and then they were 14 and 2 so I was kind of on them going to the Lions game. Sam Darnold looked so bad. He looked so bad. Like he looked like he was seeing ghosts again, like against the Patriots years ago,
Starting point is 00:28:33 against a Super Bowl winning quarterback, Super Bowl winning coach at home or at least kind of at home maybe, depending on where they play. I think I'm going to take the Rams, but I don't know. I'm very torn here because I can see the Vikings, you know, coming back and it's like,
Starting point is 00:28:49 wow, I'm dumb for not taking the team that won 14 games. but I don't know. It's going to be hard for me to stomach putting my hard-earned money on Sam Darnold after watching that performance last week. Sam Donald's a little bit like Quinn Ewers. Like how much does he have to do
Starting point is 00:29:04 to get his job back next year? You know, like the whole Ewer's thing is like how high does he get drafted because the team definitely is arches next year. But what if he wins the national championship? If he wins the national championship, then I would guess his draft stock goes way up. But if he doesn't, you know,
Starting point is 00:29:21 does he transfer? and go play, I don't know where. It's kind of the same thing with Sam Darnold. Like, when does he earn this team? I think if he wins a playoff, I mean, I think they should probably franchise to attack him and then let McCarthy, like, you know, have another year to recover.
Starting point is 00:29:40 But, yeah, it's interesting. I would have said he earned it. And then I think, I literally think he could have cost himself tens of millions of dollars with the Sunday night performance against the Lions. That's how bad it was. Tens of millions. Millions. Yeah. Overall guaranteed next contract. That's not crazy.
Starting point is 00:29:56 All right. I don't know the ins and outs, Tommy smokes, of this. I know it, I saw it. I know you're doing this. I assume it's still, is it still going or is it over? You had a dating competition. Oh, that was over. That was a one night event. It was a one night deal? You should have stretched that out. Okay, you got to tell me about it. Yeah, I try to throw as many dating shows for myself as possible. That's a major part of the content I make here at Barstool is, oh, can I have Hot Girls Fawn over me? Call me crazy.
Starting point is 00:30:29 I like making that type of content. I've done like four different data shows. I'm usually good for one or two a year. I'll put them out. Yeah, that most recent one was we have a Barstool bar in Scottsdale, Arizona. They were looking to like do content in there. So I said, here's a crazy idea. We take 16 Hot Girls.
Starting point is 00:30:48 They all fight from my heart. They loved it. So we did like a speed dating. It was like a tournament where I would date two girls at once, like a minute, two minutes, pick the winner of the matchup, winner advances. And then at the end, I surprised the winner with a marriage ceremony. So they had to legally marry me. Wait, what?
Starting point is 00:31:08 You legally marry them? It was a fake priest, but I wanted to get their reaction of like, I told them at the end. I was like, we're legally marrying right now. Like, this guy's an ordained minister. And she was gay. What'd she do? She said, yes. Yeah, she was game.
Starting point is 00:31:24 She might have known it was probably fake, but yeah, I could have literally got married. So you've done this a handful of times, these dating things for Barstool? Yeah, different. So I did that. I did one at the office last year where I just had like six girls in. That one was probably funnier because it was just like the most ridiculous. Like I did like little challenges and one of them was it was a basketball challenge. And it was like, I was the defender.
Starting point is 00:31:52 And then it's like, let's see who could score on me. And the second, a girl scored on me, she was immediately eliminated because I can't date a woman who's more athletic than me. So that was like that, those type of challenges to determine, like, who can give me the nicest compliment, things like that. And then Chicks in the Office is a big podcast we have here, a pop culture podcast. And I've been a special guest at some of their live shows where I go on stage and I'm blindfolded and it's three girls. And it's like questions, like Honeymooners game or whatever. So, yeah, all that being said, I like doing dating content. Have you liked any of the girls?
Starting point is 00:32:26 Have you, for real, though, through any of this, have you liked? Yeah? I mean, like, you know, like enough. I mean, you know, the issue is a lot of these are done outside of New York City, so I'm not going to pursue, like, you know, someone that doesn't live in New York. But yeah, there's been some nice girls throughout the, my goal for this year is to get on Love Island, actually. Well, I was going to ask you that. So I'm actually, I'm a dating show fan, and I don't care what people think about that.
Starting point is 00:32:56 I am. But I don't like, well, I can't say I don't like because I've never watched The Bachelor, really. I'm sure an episode has, like, washed over me or two somewhere. But I've never invested in it. Because the truth is, like, the whole love aspect, I know this sound, it's not what appeals to me. It's the social experiment aspect of it all that I really like. And so, like, one of my favorites is love is blind. I love Love is Blind on Netflix
Starting point is 00:33:21 Because I like the whole social experiment Like are you serious? Do they really falling in love without ever seeing each other? And then I like seeing the layers peeled back Oh, now they go on a honeymoon together Then they're introduced to the real world Then they're introduced their family I like just seeing it either fall apart or survive
Starting point is 00:33:38 You know, whatever And I perfectly accept at this point Some of these people are, you know, fame hounds They're just searching the fame and it's not real But I don't know I guess I can delude myself in this thinking sometimes, because there's got to be reality for it to have some stakes for you to care about. But I like the social experiment.
Starting point is 00:33:56 I think you could go on with the expectation of, like, yeah, I might get some fame, but I think that's not like mutually exclusive to you also can't fall in love. You know, I think you could go on and be like, yeah, I want to get famous, but you also could end up meeting somebody that, like, you fall for. I actually am not, I don't watch a lot of it. Like, I watched one season, Love is Blind, thought it was very funny. Like, and then me and my friend, we watch the, the Bachelor, or no, we only watch the Bachelorette because I think that's a lot funnier than the Bachelor, because the Bachelor to me, it's like, all right, it's a lot of hot girls and that's good to watch, but it's whatever. They're fighting.
Starting point is 00:34:35 To me, like, the character, the male characters you get on The Bachelorette, they are so weird. They're so, just such bizarre men. Really? To watch them and treat it like a sitcom. Because, like, every time the girl walks in the room, they, like, fall over each other. You get up and be like, you look beautiful, Samantha. Samantha, you look so beautiful tonight. Like, it just, like, pure comedy.
Starting point is 00:34:57 And Love Island, I actually have not watched a full season. So if I get on, I'm going to have to do that before. I don't know what Love Island is. And that was, like, the big one this year. Like, it went crazy viral. Like, everybody was watching it besides us, I guess. But, yeah, that apparently is a good, I think it's on Peacock, I want to say. okay um yeah because well for being honest and i like to be honest with the audience the the engineering
Starting point is 00:35:23 the social engineer is part of it but also you're putting yourself into the show and so meaning it is better for me like the bats reverse the bachelorette if you're going pick her don't pick her you know right not just on looks part of it unlocks but like because she's crazy or you're a bad fit i i mean the whole like projecting yourself into the optionality is is part of the fun. Yeah, it's a good point. I guess I can't really do that when I'm watching The Bachelorette,
Starting point is 00:35:51 but again, to me, that's just comedy. The Bachelorette's a sitcom. All right, well, I'll make you promise. I'm in on the next dating. Let me know in the next Tommy Smoke's dating night is dating show, and I'm going to be watching and commenting. All right, deal.
Starting point is 00:36:07 I could almost guarantee there will be another one at some point this year. Make the people wait a few months, but then we'll be back. Okay, we'll promote it. We'll promote it, okay? Right here, we'll promote it on before. On the Will Cain Show.
