Will versus the experts picking the five biggest games in college football this week?
with Outkicks Trey Wallace.
It's Will Cain of the Will Cain show, streaming live every Monday through Thursday, 12 o'clock
Eastern time to subscribe on Apple or Spotify or watch us every day, hang out in person live on
YouTube and Facebook.
Today is a Canaan Sports, sports exclusive edition of the Will Cain show.
We're going to start every week picking the games in part, taking on various experts across
the world of sports and see who's better at college.
and pro football. Before we get into it with Trey Wallace, we've been debating, and we've got to get on it
if we're going to do this here on the Will Cain show, we've been debating well not to put together
a fantasy football league. Now, let's go through this very quickly. I am a procrastinator, and I'm
not good at answering. So we're pulling Young Establishment James out of the penalty box for another
quick skate around the ice, an efficient lap, no more than a lap and a half around the ice.
to read off for me the names, James, of people that you have suggested we invite into the Will Cain Show Fantasy Football League.
Who are you suggesting should be a part of this league?
All right.
So after you, the crew, we go down Bobby, Pete Hegseth, Lawrence Jones, Sage Steele, the Duffies, some of the Navy Seals, Tyrus, Marcellus Wiley, Jersey Jerry, Stephen A, Dan Dakeach, Doug Bergham, Andy McCarthy, Byron Donalds, Ethan Strauss, the Ruthless guy.
Michelle Tafoya, A.J. Persinski, maybe The Rock, Nick Adams, and Billy Football.
Oh, Justin Time.
Okay. He made it around a lap and a half.
Now, there's some obvious strikeouts in there.
I don't think The Rock is going to play fantasy football with you, James.
And I think that Stephen A. Smith is going to ghost that invitation if I text him.
I'm not going to get a reply.
I also think that some of those, like,
the Duffies probably shouldn't be in our fantasy football league because the last time Rachel
was in a Fox and Friends fantasy football league she didn't even she didn't even do it she outsourced
it to Bobby Burrack of Outkick so here's my opinions the best leagues are 10 to 12 teams okay okay
so if we do this there's four of us right now that would need we need six to eight more
individuals Hegseth would do it I could get Hegseth in I don't know and we've got to do it
quick because we'd have to draft next week.
Let's just say, all right, so now we're up to five if we include Heggseth.
Lawrence is not a great text responder.
So I don't know if I'm going to get Lawrence to participate.
Maybe.
I'm not going to chase him.
So I want you to go a little more slowly and I'm going to give you a thumbs up or thumbs
down on this invitation list right now.
Go.
Okay, so after Lawrence Jones, we have Sage.
I'm going to hold that on that.
Sage.
Duffies.
No.
No Sean?
No Duffies.
Okay.
Any of the SEALs?
Sean may be able to.
Any of the Navy SEALs?
That's possible.
There's so many of them I'd have to figure out who's most into football and figure out
who I would invite in there.
But it would be fun to have a warrior in the chat.
Who else?
Tyrus.
Tyrus is a go.
I think what you could do, Tyrus and Tyrus would be fun.
Yes, so mark that down.
All right, we've got two Fox Sports.
Marcellus Wiley or Mark Schlereth?
Well, Mark and I haven't talked in a while.
Big fan of Mark Schlarith, so I don't know if he would do it out of the blue.
Hey, join my fantasy league.
Marcellus is spamming me with invitations to get into all kinds of like pickum leagues and all that,
which makes me feel like he's already overtaxed.
That doesn't make me feel like I should return the invitation because actually I haven't
accepted any of his for his pickum leagues so um i i feel like marcellus has already got too much
going on all right jersey jerry jerry ghosted me last time he's getting so big for his
britches and did you guys see the video going around of him with uh hillary clinton and and a o c jersey
jerry is not is not a lefty and big cat set him up to make it look like he did this viral
video with AOC and Nancy Pelosi.
And I may, Jerry, Jersey Jerry is in the Sage Deal maybe category.
Okay.
I'm sorry, Jersey Jerry won lib of the year for a reason, okay?
I only saw that in passing.
Jersey Jerry is going to file defamation lawsuits on everybody for making him live
of the year.
He should because I only saw him in passing and just assumed he was.
And next up is, uh, we have Dakeach and Doug Berger.
Well, you're not going to get Dan in on because you keep mispronouncing his name.
It's Dockich.
And if we end up inviting him, at least over the phone, hey, Dan Dakeach, would you join?
Hello, Mr. Dakeach.
He's going to say no.
I mean, why do you think Doug Bergam is going to play fantasy football with us?
Why is that?
I think, I think one of his staffers would.
That's not Doug Bergam, though.
All right, Doug Bergam is a yes.
He's a go.
I want you to invite Doug Bergam.
Well, pretend it's him.
Okay.
Andy McCarthy
Big Jets guy
Big football guy
Andy's a Jets guy
He's a fan
Put him in the maybe
category as well
Byron Donald's
Yes
We were inviting
Byron in
Byron's big football
fan
I think he would do it
Let's see if Byron
Put him on the invitation list
Tinfoil
We got to get Politico's
Navy SEAL
and talking heads
into this
So yes on
Yes on
Byron Donald's invitation
Yes 104
Do we say
Yes to Bobby
at the top?
Yeah.
Okay.
Bobby Burak of Outkick, yeah.
Okay.
Bobby Burak of Outkick, yes.
Yes.
Ethan Strauss.
What are we up to, Tenfoil?
Tenfoil, what are we up to?
Like eight?
Five.
So that's nine?
Depending on how many seals.
We're up to nine.
Yeah.
We want 12.
Plus a seal.
I think 12 is the magic number.
All right, what do you got, Young James?
We need two more.
We got, okay, we got six more here, and they're all pretty decent.
Any of the ruthless guys?
Maybe they have like one collective.
Holmes would be good.
Homes would be good.
We have A.J. Prisinski. He always likes our stuff. He's not doing it. He likes every single one of our posts. I think there's a shot. I think Aaron Judge will do it, James. I don't know. You know, sometimes ex-players. They've got time on their hands.
Got Michelle Tofoya.
I don't know about Michelle maybe
we don't have any women so you know
she and Sage are on the list
who else? Nick Adams
and I'm sure Nick is a yes
I would think Nick is yes
so maybe on Nick
he might have some funny posts about the league too
could be a fun time
then the last one is
Alpha male Nick Adams
Billy football
Billy football
we'll be lucky to get any of these barstool guys
in um but um okay so i put like four or five people in the maybe you're up to nine we will figure it
out and i will give you the green light to make these invitations the ones that i need to send out
i will post show and we will see if we can do this and set a date for a draft see if we can get
these guys in to the will cane show fantasy football league okay there we go i i would suggest if
you're listening right now you need to put about a 30 to 40 percent
confidence meter on this actually coming to fruition, this happening.
But I want to get into week one of college football.
I want to go Will versus the experts to make picks in the five biggest games
and break down whether or not you'd pay for a free agent to your favorite team
with Outkicks, Trey Wallace.

We're joined today on the Will Kane show by the senior college sports writer for Outkick.
He's also the host of the Trey Wallace podcast.
We're joined by Trey Wallace here on the Wilkine show.
What's up, Trey?
Man, I have done by hibernation for the last couple months, taking a nap or two, and now it's nonstop for six months of college football.
So I'm stoked, ready to go.
It's here, finally.
Trey lives in what I think might be, if we were.
were drafting a top five most underrated places in America, I think Trey lives in an absolute
top fiver. Now, I've made this argument, Trey. Now, I have a little bit of an emotional connection
because I spent COVID in eastern Tennessee. I lived outside of Knoxville. You live outside of
Knoxville. And we both lived there east of Knoxville toward the Smoky Mountains. And I don't know
that people outside of eastern Tennessee know how pretty it is in eastern Tennessee.
And I made this argument, Trey.
I think Knoxville might be the ideal town.
If you're going to live in a town and not out in the country of the mountains like you do,
Knoxville might be the ideal town.
Now, here's why, and I want to hear your response.
300,000 people, an airport that will get you almost anywhere,
you might have to get a connecting flight,
a big college campus in the University of Tennessee,
plenty of business if you have high ambitions to achieve,
you've got plenty of local economy,
meaning you don't have to, you know,
seek greener pastures in New York City.
You can have a nice, really good life in Knoxville, Tennessee,
and you can still in that size of town,
do a decent job.
You won't know everybody, but you'll know a lot of people.
You'll go to the store and you'll go to the restaurant,
and you'll still have a good chance of seeing friends and neighbors.
I have loved Knoxville so much.
I've said 300,000 is about the perfect-sized town in America.
It is a spot where you can get around anywhere you need to be in 10 minutes.
And it is an economy that continues to boom.
It is a spot where if you want to, you can get away to the Smoky Mountains from Knoxville within 30 minutes.
You can go hiking.
you can do whatever you want you can go white water rafting if you want to um in the campus
you can be at the university of tennessee pretty much 15 minutes from where you're at
knoxville anywhere at knoxville it takes me 30 minutes to get there which is easy and it is one of the
this i i'll give it to you this way when when i joined outkick i had an opportunity to move wherever
i wanted to move uh i had lived in nashville for seven years didn't feel like going back
and living in Nashville, been there, done that.
Nashville feels like Atlanta now.
And I decided to stay in East Tennessee because of how beautiful it is,
because of everything that I get to do, because of the airport.
Like you mentioned it, the airport, dude, I can get to wherever I need to be
on a college football Saturday, either by a direct flight or I'll connect in Charlotte
or Atlanta, and I can be anywhere.
Like next week, going to Lincoln, Nebraska.
We're going to cover Colorado and Nebraska.
I got I got an hour layover in Chicago
and I'll be in Lincoln within three hours.
It is perfect for me
and that's why I don't think I'll ever move.
I have made the argument to my friend and co-host,
Pete Heggseth, who moved to Nashville in the past year, two years.
The Nashville's already graduated past its golden age.
Like Nashville has probably, it might be at the peak of its golden age,
but if it's not at the peak, it's just gone over the hump,
meaning it's all downhill from here for Nashville.
I saw it happen with Austin, right?
It's an awesome city, a great city that everybody recognizes,
and then it gets too much.
And it becomes a caricature of itself.
Now, I think at some point I've got to put a top five list together
that Knoxville will be on to see what other towns kind of check these boxes.
But I want to ask you this.
We're going to do a Will v. the Experts competition here,
and Trey's going to be opponent number one on picking the games in week one of college football.
We just had week zero.
So it's week one of college football.
We'll have Will versus the experts.
But I want to ask, while I have you here,
because your job requires that you've gone around and you've done this,
and you live right there, like you said, 20 minutes from Neeland Stadium,
what do you think is the best, give me your top three,
I'm curious if Tennessee makes it, your top three home college football environments.
Oh, goodness gracious.
I think I would go, I think I would go Death Valley in Baton Rouge
at night, that is a tough place to be.
Growing up along the Gulf Coast, too,
that was a spot where me and friends would sneak over,
you know, without the parents knowing,
go to a game in Death Valley.
I think the big house at Michigan is another one
where it's just, you know, 110,000 people crammed in.
It's beautiful, the surrounding areas.
The stadium's kind of like, okay,
but overall, fun environment.
But I think Neeland Stadium is probably the other would be in my top three.
And what they've been able to do with the stadium continuing to build.
It's going to look fantastic here in about two years when they get all the renovations done.
So I would say that would be my top three in no particular order.
And that's not a shot to anybody else in college football.
But number one on that list is certainly Death Valley because that place becomes a menace to your liver.
right around 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
And it's a wonderful place to watch college football.
Just make sure if you're an opposing fan
that you probably take your shirt off leaving the stadium
because it could be hell on earth for you.
Is it Philadelphia Eagles level of hostility at Ellison?
Oh, brother.
Oh, yes.
It is a, that we, I'll give you an example.
We went over to the game right after, I think it was her game, Katrina.
Went over, Tennessee played LSU on a Monday night.
And we went over there.
It was just me and my father.
I actually had traveled down from Tuscaloosa, where I was living at the time,
went to the game, met him there on a Monday night.
You have to imagine all these folks are dealing with Hurricane aftermath as well.
But you got a college football game.
Tennessee was down 17 points at halftime.
Didn't look like they were going to win, whatnot.
It looked like it was over.
Tennessee came back and won that football game.
And I remember telling my father, who was a Tennessee fan,
I was just wearing neutral colors, who was a Tennessee fan.
I remember telling him, hey, bro, you might want to take that shirt off.
There are 85,000 pissed off LSU fans here that have been drinking since 8 o'clock in the morning,
and you just beat them with everything else going on.
If you want to get out here alive, please do this, dad.
It is one of the craziest environments.
would tell all college football fans, if you have not experienced this, and especially Oklahoma and
Texas fans since they've joined the SEC now, if you've not experienced Death Valley, make sure you go,
make sure you go. It is something that you will remember for the rest of your life. They will be,
they're so nice to, like before the game, they're so nice, Will, brother, they're going to offer you
gumbo, jambalaya, you can have crawfish with them. It's going to be a great time. After the game,
they're going to hate you. But before the game, they are so hospitable. So just make sure you go
of Death Valley.
So my biggest takeaways from what you just shared with us is, if my son ever calls me
bro, I'll make sure to not do whatever it is he recommends.
I'm not your bro.
Second, the way that recommendations work, I've realized this at least about myself, is
if somebody recommends something, you know, if I hear it one time, you know, I'll remember it,
but I'm not necessarily going to, it's not a call to action.
I feel like I need to be hit two, three times.
Once I'm hit two or three times, with a.
recommendation that's sufficient for me now i'm like i think i got to watch that on
netflix or i've got to read that book your ls u thing i mean you're not you're not pioneering a
path i've heard that a lot but i feel like that's the third or so recommendation where it's like
it's number one at night my buddy ryan rissillo is a big fan of lsu at night so as a texas fan
that's got to be number one on my college football to do list is going to death valley now speaking
of LSU.
And by the way, I did get that stare from my father when I said bro to him.
He's not your brother.
I was a 19-year-old college kid.
I got that stare for him like, hey, boy, what did you say to me?
So let's just put that out there.
I've had to tell my seventh, going eighth grade or that.
I'm not your bro.
So speaking of LSU, Brian Kelly just, you wrote about this on Outkick.
Brian Kelly doesn't like what Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State are doing.
And it's a pretty fascinating.
thing what they're doing. Oklahoma State is putting QR codes on the back of their helmet so that,
I guess, fans watching Oklahoma State games can scan their QR codes while they're watching a game
if you get a good shot on your television and you're watching a close-up of the quarterback.
And I started thinking about this, Trey, who's going to get the close-ups so that they're QR code?
And I don't know, I guess these aren't individualized QR codes. It's a QR code for the entire team,
right it's not to each individual players in a in iL so it's to the program at large the collective
for the cowboys right so you can scan that QR code at any given time and you can donate to to
the cowboys nil i don't really care about brian kelly's uh criticism of this program here's what
it got me thinking tray what if you had individualized QR codes and you could donate to individual
players in iL right and of course the quarterback is going to have a huge advantage because he's
going to have his helmet shown the most you're going to see the back there'll be a couple shots
of offensive linemen you'll get some wide receiver shots in there but i started thinking about
the impact that could have on recruiting so you you know you're going to want to go to a program
that's going to get a lot of tv time national games maybe or maybe you just want to have the most
passionate supportive fans seeing your QR code all the time i started thinking about this tray like
you know, I think fans would do it.
Like fans would realize, okay, I'm going to take a player
because I'm a homer and this is how I pay attention.
Texas. Texas has a young freshman wide receiver.
He's a freshman that's your name Ryan Wingo.
He's from Missouri.
When Ryan Wingo, and he's a five star, he's a stud,
when he was coming down to his decision,
it was Missouri versus Texas.
And if you'll look in research right now,
most people are saying Missouri is at the forefront of NIL.
They're doing it really well.
and that's why out of the blue, Missouri is getting a lot of big time players.
Ole Miss is another one.
And so I started thinking about Texas's wide receiver depth chart.
Okay, and it's stacked.
It really is.
And they've got kids coming in behind Wingo, who are really big.
It looks like this next recruiting class could have three, five stars in it.
And I just started thinking, this is me thinking when I'm reading every morning,
what if Wingo doesn't like his playing time?
What if he doesn't like his targets?
Like, he won't be the top guy this year.
And next year, if there's some other guys competing for targets, what if he starts shopping around?
But Texas fans could see his QR code and start donating directly to his NIL.
And I think, here's my take, Trey.
I think fans would do it.
I think fans would start donating directly to keep guys in the program they're worried about losing
if you were able to scan a code and donate directly to a player's NIL.
I don't disagree with you because the biggest thing right now that we're seeing in college football
is that these collectives that are out there right now in the schools are trying to get folks, fans.
I'm not talking about boosters.
I'm talking about regular fans that back the stadium or watch on television,
trying to get them to give individual donations to the complete NIL fund.
And so what we're getting out with the QR code is, I kind of agree with you for like a running back from Oklahoma State, Ali Gordon.
Like he is a guy.
If he had a QR code on the back of his helmet, which you will.
But if it was individualized for him, he would.
would make a lot of money, in my opinion, because you would have fans that want to contribute
to the star running back or the star quarterback. I think the reason why Mike Gundy did it the way he did
it, well, was because, okay, we don't want to individualize it. And we don't want after the game,
okay, well, dang, this guy made $3,000, you know, and the star wide receiver made $1,200.
You know, they don't want that discrepancy. So they're like, all in the one fun. To me,
in my opinion, if you want your star players who stick around a program,
you need to start prioritizing them.
And it's not just television time that they're going to get
or how many yards they have receiving.
You kind of hit it.
You talk about Ryan Wingo.
If Ryan Wingo was on the sidelines or whatnot,
and there were fans in the stadium
and maybe he popped up.
Somebody can get a QR code and you can scan it
and give him money.
I think that would go a long way
in saying, okay, well, you're not getting on the playing field,
but you know what?
Fans appreciate you this much.
Look at how much money you're getting
because we know what you can do in the future.
We know that Isaiah Bond is going to make a lot of money for Texas this year as one of the star wide receivers for Quinn Newers.
But at the same time, you look at it from an individual standpoint where it is difficult for fans to wrap their heads around.
Well, wait a minute.
Okay.
I like the star quarterback.
I like the wide receiver.
How much do we really need to keep the other guys?
Like, I don't know what's going on.
I don't know if that other guy's shopping around and looking for other NIL deals.
So what is a priority?
So what you're talking about is a smart maneuver
because it gives fans the chance to say,
okay, this is how much we love this kid.
This is how much we want to keep this kid.
And here's what it made me think, Trey.
So look, there may not be that many fans.
And I'm using this example,
and everybody listens like,
here's Will talking about the horns again.
But I'm using it as an example.
There may not be that many fans that actually know
we don't want to lose Wingo
because he's our number one receiver in two years
if he'll stick around.
So, but what it may.
me think, because there may not be that many fans, like, that know the depth chart that well
or keep up with recruiting. But it did make me think, even beyond college football, thinking
about pro football, like, as a business model, it's, I think they're, I'm not saying right or
wrong, because I think it would be an ugly visual for players to score a touchdown and immediately
start pointing to their QR code. That would, that would not go, I think that would be a really
ugly visual for the sport. However, I also think there would be a lot of fans that would donate. So,
for example, it's harder in the NFL because we have a salary cap to deal with. But, you know,
the appetite in America for sports is so big. And the appetite for winning is so strong that let's,
you know, I don't know about the Cowboys, because they're a mystery, to be honest, when it comes
to what Jerry's willing to spend. But take, I don't know, the people.
Panthers. I saw a thing in the athletic saying the Panthers are one of the worst run
organizations in the NFL. But like if the fans could, if the fans could help the Panthers
sign a free agent by their own charitable contributions in their own pursuit and their own desire
to win, I think fans would. I'm not saying right or wrong. I think they would. And I started
thinking about that from an owner's perspective like sports probably hasn't even scratched the
surface yet on the amount of money that it can generate because of the appetite all of us have
for winning. I'm a Rangers fan. The Rangers won the World Series last year, and it was an
awesome moment for me, right? I mean, I've never had that before. Would I have paid more to feel
that way? I might have, if there have been some way for me to say, you know what, I want you to
bring back Jordan Montgomery next year. Oh, you can't afford it, Ray Davis? Well, here, the fans
will help. There's no salary cap in baseball, right? There's will help, we'll help contribute.
to signing fresh. The point is, I think fans would actually help sign people, free agents,
to their teams and players in college football if it helped them get wins. It's a whole new
revenue stream. Well, it's also outside the realm of when you look at some schools and how they
do it right now and even in college, it's okay, give $9.99 a month to this collective and let's put
it together in a fund. No, I think that when you look at some of the star players on the team,
We were talking about Texas, even Arch Banning, okay?
Like, hey, nobody wants Arch Manning to go anywhere.
Okay, let's make sure that we find a way to contribute to an individualized NIL fund to make sure that he doesn't leave.
Like, we think he's going to be the starting quarterback.
We know he is after Quinn leaves, but there is that chance.
You just never know with college football.
I think when you look at other teams and whatnot, and I agree with you here, I think that fans are so invested.
Look at ticket prices.
Look at how much money fans will pay to go watch some of these big events for their teams.
How much money they'll throw out for an NFC championship game or a college world series baseball game or the playoffs and whatnot when it comes to college football.
I think that at the end of the day, if you gave them the opportunity outside of some monthly subscription, yes, they would fund individual players as much as they could.
And maybe that's because they like them.
Maybe that's because, okay, it's the star quarterback and he's on television a lot and, you know, we love what he does for the program.
Well, you know what?
Maybe it's that linebacker.
It's got a cool personality that you enjoy that's busting heads.
I think I agree with you in the sense of that if you let fans take over a little bit more than they are, I think that you get an opportunity to raise a lot more money.
And then also at the same time, Will, we're coming up on a new thing in the NCAA and college athletics with revenue sharing where athletic department's going to have to.
to come up with $20 to $25 million a year to be able to pay these players.
Well, they're freaking out right now on how to come up with this money.
Not every school like Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State has that money laying around
to pay these players.
I think if you let the fans get involved, you're going to see a lot more financial exposure
for these guys.
And at the same time, makes the players feel good, not going to shop around.
They got some extra money for themselves.
Let's roll.
all right week one college football means week one of will versus the experts and this week's
expert is tray wallace the senior college sports writer at outkick now next week we'll
integrate NFL games into this pick but this week because it's solely the province of college
football we'll do five college football games tray and i'll pick them we'll see who did a better job
at the back end of this first weekend in college football all right let's start with the biggest game
of the weekend. It's also a game I have a personal invested interest in. I tell everybody who'll
listen, Trey, my nephew plays for Clemson. So we're going to start with Clemson, Georgia, neutral
field. Georgia, by the lines I just witnessed, favored by 13 and a half. I think Outkicks
latest in your article I saw was at 13. So it's gone to 13 and a half. I am going to take
against my best interest in terms of familial harmony,
I am going to take Georgia minus the 13 and a half, Trey.
Well, I'm going to go, I'm going to go Clemson,
and I'm going to take the points that I'm giving.
I ain't definitely going money line.
I'm taking the points, and I'm giving in the 13 and a half.
Hopefully, that gets up to 14 by kickoff.
But as we stand here right now, I think Clemson has a lot to prove, and I think that if this game is close at the start of the fourth quarter will, I think that's where Clemson can show that this is a different team compared to years past.
And let's not forget, Tabo Sweeney has a lot to prove, okay?
He does.
In the ACC this year, and I know what Georgia is.
Trust me.
I saw Georgia destroy Oregon two years ago in Atlanta, and it was ugly, and then Oregon was contending for a playoff.
spot the end of the year. But I do think at this moment, I want to take Clemson and the points here,
and I think this game is probably 10 points heading into the fourth quarter. I think Clemson gets
a fieldgoer touchdown late, and I cover the spread. I want to believe, but I don't yet feel like
I have the evidence to believe in Cade Clubnick, not at the college level. Incredible high school
quarterback. And once I see it from Cade Clubnick, I'll believe it. But until
I see it, I don't know if they can score enough points to keep up with Georgia.
And what I suspect will be not just, you know, as is always the case, a good defense,
but a good offense with Carson Beck.
So I need to see it from Cade Clubbing until then I'll be taking Georgia.
All right.
Let's move to Death Valley.
Let's go LSU.
Well, it's not going to be a Death Valley.
It's a neutral field as well, but it's LSU versus USC.
And USC is getting four and a half by the lines that I just saw, which has come down.
I think it was six. It's come down to four and a half.
I am taking LSU.
Now, I might be guilty, Trey, of reading too much into Lincoln, Riley could be on the hot seat,
and USC hasn't put it together yet, but LSU is legit good as well this year, so I'm taking LSU.
I don't disagree with you.
I hate that it came down from six, but is what it is.
But in the back of my mind, Will, I look at the losing streak that LSU is currently on in openers.
against non-conference opponents.
Lost two to Florida State in a row,
lost to UCLA.
Okay, can they finally open this season
with a win against a non-con school?
I think they do.
I'm taking LSU to cover this one.
I think they are badass on defense.
I think Harold Perkins is going to get after Miller Moss,
and Lincoln Riley is going to open the season
with a loss, and the conversations in Los Angeles
are only going to pick up for Lincoln Riley,
and it will be fascinating to watch the entire season.
let's stay in the SEC
and it's Texas hasn't even kicked off their first game in the SEC
and I could already be accused of being an SEC Homer
because it's A&M Notre Dame.
This is a home field game at Kyle Field.
Notre Dame's getting three and a half
and, you know, they say that home field basically is a field goal,
at least as it's in the NFL.
I think Kyle Field is definitely worth that.
I think I guess I'm an SEC Homer.
I'm taking A&M.N.
and giving away the three and a half.
Yeah, I think Notre Dame goes into college station,
gets past the first quarter,
settles down with Riley Leonard,
former quarterback at Duke,
who should be able to throw the ball around
on the A&M secondary, in my opinion.
I know that A&M has a good defensive line,
but their secondary is what worries me.
I'm taking Notre Dame, taking the points.
They're going to go in there.
They're going to win outright,
but I'm taking Notre Dame to get this one.
Just get past the first quarter.
Don't freak out with 110,000.
thousand folks at Cal Field and College Station, and you'll be okay. But this is a, this is
Freeman's year, Will, to finally do something. And I think they go into college station and grab
the win. I've seen mock drafts already have A&M quarterback Connor Wegman in the first
round. Like, and I don't, I don't know that he's shown that yet at all. But that's suggesting
he's going to be a stud this year. They are really, really pushing it out there if we're already
he's starting to see that about Connor. I know that he's talented. Okay, I get that part,
but I want to see what he looks like in this offense. And look, running backs by receivers,
haven't helped out in years past. But last year, okay, I'll give him a little bit of wiggaroom.
This year is a whole new ballgame. So, you know, big, it's crazy too, because one of your biggest
games in the season is to open this season at home. A lot of pressure on Connor to get things done.
That's why I think a veteran like Ryan Leonard for Notre Dame comes in.
and it snatches the glory away from him.
All right, as a quick half-time report here, I'm going to ask Trey this.
He wasn't prepared.
But is there anything more controversial you can do than like a Donald Trump tweet, Trey,
or a Donald Trump Instagram post?
It depends on it depends on what we're talking, of course, about, we're talking about
Brittany Mahomes, who's out there, Patrick Mahomes' wife is making national news because she had the nerve
to heart Donald Trump post, and it's bigger news than Steph Curry speaking and at the DNC or
endorsing Kamala Harris.
Dude, you know how I get in trouble sometimes and I don't get into, I have to go back
and like check myself.
I don't bookmark tweets.
I like the tweets if I want to read something later and I find it interesting.
So I'll like it.
And then at night, when I'm kind of relaxing and chilling out, I'll go back and look at my
likes and scroll through, then I'll read my articles. But I have caught myself liking some
controversial tweets that I didn't expect maybe other people to realize that I did. And so, yes,
I would say there is nothing more damning than liking a Donald Trump tweet, even if you don't
agree with what he was saying. I think that's the best part. Well, your likes on X are now private
and the bookmark feature is wonderful.
I'm using that left and right now
to go back and read things that I wanted to read.
It is crazy how, and Brittany Mahomes,
greatest comeback story in sports.
I mean, I really have no love for Brittany Mahomes.
And it's not like, oh, I'm a Donald Trump,
you know, stands to anybody that stands with Donald Trump,
I'm there.
But what I like about Brittany is she's not bending.
Like, everybody's going at her,
and she's like, bring it, fools.
I don't care.
And all of a sudden, now,
you know, Taylor Swift's
want to be besty
is in social media
want to be star is somebody I'm going
go Brittany.
Well, you know what happened
is she no longer has to hang out
with Patrick's brother at game.
So life got a lot easier
for her when it comes to
whatever the hell she is doing on social media.
And it's
it's crazy that we're at a point in
society that if you like
a tweet, I don't care
if it was just saying Donald Trump is going to be in this debate tonight.
If you liked it, because his name is in it, you're going to get scrutinized.
We are just, it's just a crazy-ass time in this world.
All right, back to Will versus the experts.
All right, we're going to leave the SEC now.
Miami, Florida, Florida is at home, and they are getting two and a half.
I, in this one, Trey, am taking brand new Miami quarterback Cam Ward
and the Hurricanes against Florida going against the SEC.
Actually, we're not leaving the SEC.
We're staying in the SEC because I got Florida in this matchup,
and I'm betting against the ACC,
showing my, you know, eternal objectivity.
I'm taking the hurricanes.
Good for you, Will.
I think that's a nice pick.
Cam Moore from Washington State, good quarterback.
Like, you know, getting paid a lot to be there at Miami.
I did pick Miami to make the playoffs this year.
But I think Graham Mertz and the Gators,
I think they have something to prove on Saturday afternoon.
I think Graham Mertz is a really good quarterback.
He was surrounded by bad coaching last year.
Defense didn't help him.
I think the Gators kind of shocked folks out there and Billy Napier.
Wow.
They're going to cover it.
You and I are on opposite sides.
We're on opposite sides of every bet so far except LSU versus USC.
This is good stuff.
And you want to know what the best thing is?
You picked Miami.
The best thing is a school can drop a game will in the opener and still being attention
for the playoffs.
So I'm good.
We're all gravy.
I know. I've got a producer who's a big Florida State fan. Trust me. I know.
I feel bad for that. I'm sorry.
You picked Miami to make the playoffs. I was just going through playoff predictions earlier today.
I read the athletic. I think the athletic does a really good job. I know they're owned by the New York Times, but they do actually a really good job of sports coverage.
And there, or maybe this was ESPN. This was ESPN's college football experts picking the college football playoffs.
and all but one they had a dozen pickers
had as their national champion
either Ohio State or Georgia
and the one outlier was
somebody picked Oregon
but you know the the 12th team
playoff had some variability
the semifinals didn't have much
variability it was almost always Oregon
Ohio State and Georgia and then some
threw in a Texas or something else
for for the final spot in the semifinals
but everybody had their championship game
just about as Ohio State Georgia
and one of those is your champion.
Yeah, I've got, I've actually,
I got Ole Miss playing Texas in one of the semi-finals.
I got Texas advancing to the National Championship game,
playing Ohio State at the end of the day.
In my opinion, Ohio State will win that game
and win the National Championship.
But I don't think, you know,
I don't think this is going to be some Georgia, Texas thing,
however it plays out.
I do think Ole Miss and Texas is going to be fascinating to me
for the whole season to watch them both play.
But, yeah, I've got a,
I've got a longhorns versus butt guys national championship game.
And it would be fascinating to see if Ryan Day can finally beat Michigan as well.
The Quinn Ewers Bowl.
All right.
Finally, the last one here, Penn State, West Virginia, at West Virginia,
West Virginia getting eight and a half.
It is, in my estimation, the only one of the five where I'm taking the dog.
I'm taking West Virginia plus the eight and a half, Trey.
West Virginia is going to beat Penn State on Saturday,
straight up, going to beat him.
Garrett Green at quarterback, that environment in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Let me tell you something.
If I could be there at that game through what another big games going on,
I would be in West Virginia for that one.
I think Neil Brown and what they have done,
a turnaround last season,
and I think when they have a quarterback,
that environment is going to be one of the craziest
that you see on television this weekend.
and I highly advise people to tune in.
And at the end of the day, the Mountaineers are going to be celebrating.
It's going to be a fun environment.
And, yeah, Penn State's going to drop the opener of the season.
That's going to be a fun opening weekend, week one, with these five games right here.
That's what we're going to do every week on Will v. Texas.
We're going to pick the five games that you want to be watching.
I'm not going to be finding the easiest or the best bets of the week,
but putting bets on the five games that you want to be watching anyway.
And that's an awesome slate of games for Saturday.
got the dreaded
wedding weekend at the same time.
But that actually can be fun because
all the guys will be figuring out ways
to figure out what's going on TV.
So you end up with a bunch of guys watching games
and you'll figure it out on Saturday
wedding day to get week one college football.
Our last thing I'll talk to...
Just grab each one of your friends
and have them pull out their iPhones
and each one of them pulls up a different game
and then y'all just sit around.
It's real easy to keep up with this.
stuff. And, you know, when something crazy happens, you can all have fun with it at the same
time. You know, I got into a debate with Tommy Laren on the Will Kane show earlier this
week about whether or not it's inappropriate to break out the phone and watch a game during
dinner with your wife and your kids. And I guess I married really well because my wife wouldn't
even be mad. And I wouldn't watch some random game most likely, only if it was an important
game for me. And I have boys. So the boys would probably be like, what's going on?
in the game. So it would be something we would discuss. But I was on the side of this is completely
appropriate. And Tommy, and for that matter, Trade, the audience all said I was the ogre in this
scenario, that you should always prioritize family time and you better be present. They made me
out to be the real bad guy here. Dude, my beautiful lady will let me throw up the phone,
lay it on sideways, and watch football if I need to. Now, look, it's my job, okay, but at the
same time, she understands it. She gets it. For five months out of the year, she knows that
college football is my life. And it has to be. So she doesn't care. Look, ma'am, we were having
dinner last weekend. And SMU, Nevada was on. And I just happened to check the score. And she's like,
sweetheart, you can watch the game if you want. You can throw it on your phone. I said,
oh, okay, cool. How was your day? Now let me watch SMU and Nevada drive the field.
All right, this is the last thing on wanted to ask Trayloss. I have not watched the Netflix
documentary on Connor Stallions and the sign stealing scandal at
Michigan. You wrote about this at Outkick. So my questions are short, but they're twofold.
A, should I watch this documentary on Netflix? B, is this why Harbaugh left Michigan?
Yeah, you should watch it just because it kind of gives a difference out of the story of what happened at Michigan from Conner Stallion's point of view.
He's been, you know, waiting to talk for this long. Netflix held the rights, paid him an amount of money where he didn't say anything up until.
So, yeah, I mean, it kind of humanizes him in a weird way, Will.
but, you know, whatever.
You do learn a couple of things.
I think that, you know, he's lying for a good amount of it,
but that's just my personal opinion.
And then, you know, at the end of the day,
I think that, you know, look,
the Michigan thing and why Jim Harbaugh left,
he was tired of dealing with the NCAA.
He was tired of dealing with his athletic director, Ward Manuel.
They were coming after him.
He was going to have to go back in front of the committee infractions.
So, yes, that is one of the reasons.
And also, he just won't a damn nasty Jim.
but you accomplished everything, gave Michigan what they wanted.
Now he can go to the NFL, have fun.
And, you know, the NCAA gives him a four years suspension.
He's like, okay, I don't care.
Who gives you shit?
Like, whatever.
It doesn't matter.
I'm not coming back anytime soon.
Don't worry.
He climbs top of the mountain while I stick around for the fallout.
All right, you can read Trey stuff at Outkick.
Whenever you want, it's Trey Wallace.
And check out the Trey Wallace podcast as well to carry you through the college football season.
It's been a lot of fun.
Thank you, Trey.
Well, I got a spot for you here in East Tennessee whenever you want to come back,
brother got a couple bedrooms for you and the old lady and the family awesome wonderful thanks
the invitation we'll see you tray thank you brother there you go again check out ray wallace the
tray wallace podcast at outkick dot com i'm going to go back to the guys in the willition we're
going to wind up the day here with this um it's not only kickoff for college football
let's kick off for the english premier league baby and two a day
is an Aston Villa fan.
How are we doing so far?
Are you waking up on Saturday and Sunday mornings getting a little football in?
I love it.
It's hard not to crack Guinness at like 8 a.m. or something like that just to watch him.
I'm getting into it.
It's really fun.
Ashtonville is a fun team.
I'm glad you suggested it.
I feel like you put it into my mind, but I'll accept it.
I think I gave you a perfect recommendation.
You know, I've been thinking about this.
And I told you that you should pick between West Ham and Aston Villa.
And the reason why is you've safely secured yourself from not being accused of being a frontrunner,
but both could compete for a top six spot, which puts you into Champions.
Four puts you into Champions League.
Six puts you into Europa League.
Astonville is already in the Champions League.
So you get to watch Champions League football this year because they're in there.
And if I say football again, I want you guys to kick me out of this show.
Champions League Soccer
And I love
I think my favorite color combo
is powder blue and maroon
Isn't it clear it?
I don't think that's what they call it
Claret.
Yeah, I was going to say.
See, I'm already learning.
Look at me.
Tinfoil.
Tinfoil is that a separate color?
Claret from Maroon.
Remember when we did this
and you guys quizzed me
on the differences between
Burgundy, scarlet, maroon?
Is Claret different than maroon?
I've literally never heard of Claret.
So this stumped me
who was like,
an expert on this kind of stuff.
So we're going to have to do like soccer team reds, maybe.
So it's, I just looked it up.
We should do soccer team colors.
Yeah, we'll do that.
And we're trying to think of like, what's the next one of these segments?
That's it.
It'll be it.
It's a red wine from Bordeaux and it says deep purpleish red color.
Okay, okay.
That's where it comes from.
So, yeah, no American team's ever going to be the color of red wine from Bordeaux.
But put it up side by side and say,
with Texas A&M and tell me that's not the same
color, maroon and claret.
It's the same color, right?
Yeah, I think so.
And I think that
that's an awesome combo with the powder blue.
It is. The only thing I feel
a little weird about with Aston Villa
becoming a fan is I looked it up
and they say, Ashton Villa
chooses you, you don't choose Aston Villa.
So I don't feel like I had it in a moment.
It means like the team chooses you,
you don't choose the team.
So something should happen
where you should become like a fan of that team
so I don't feel bad about it
but you know I'll take it
This looks a little bit more like
Mississippi State
They don't have the blue in there though
No no the blue
There's a lot of
There's a lot of
Which is the same as A&M
And there's no American teams that made that color combo
They all go maroon and white
Or maroon and black
My high school
The Sherman Bearcats
maroon and white, maroon and black.
No American teams are doing the combo with the blue.
We're really missing out here.
I can't think of a single basketball, baseball, or football team
in college or pro that are doing that color combo of West Ham and Ashton Villa.
The closest thing you're going to get to that color combination is the old oilers with the scarlet red,
the lighter shade of red.
That's bright red.
Right, right.
That's the bright red.
The closest you're going to get is a bright red, which I love.
But I do think it's, you know, right for somebody to pick up.
Yeah, that's Ole Miss's combo.
The Ole Miss is basically the old Oilers look.
They mix in some Navy, too.
But anyway, Astonville is a great squad.
Manchester City, my Gloryhound team is off and running.
We're in good shape.
So enjoy it, man.
This is going to be fun.
If Champions League draw just came out, we're good to go.
Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday afternoons for Champions League.
It perfectly fits in a sports watching schedule.
It conflicts with nothing except for big noon kickoff and college game day.
That's the only thing it will interfere with.
I've noticed this.
Every once in a while, I want to watch college game day,
but there is a soccer game going on at like 10.30 a.m.
And I have to watch that.
I have one question, though.
I have one hurdle that's stopping me from watching these.
And it is the fiancé.
She does not like soccer.
And so we have the big TV in the living room.
And it's on, you know, the app.
And so she doesn't really want to watch it.
So I've been watching it, like, on my phone as we do other things.
So how do I convince her?
Yeah, but what is it conflicting for her?
Fox and Friends Weekend?
I would get that.
She wants to watch you, man.
She wants to watch Fox and Friends Weeks.
She wants to watch you.
That's what it is.
I didn't want to say it out loud, but it is.
It can conflict humbly with Fox and Friends Weekend.
But you could watch Fox and Friends Weekend until 10 a.m.
Eastern Time and then pick up a soccer game.
They start at like 8 a.m.
But you'll have a 10 a.m. game.
You'll actually have a noon game as well.
And then you've got to make a college football choice
on what is the college football game at noon
versus whatever's happening on the pitch.
But it's a wonderful morning ambiance.
Like, does she want to watch Love is Blind?
First thing on Saturday morning?
No, you're drinking coffee.
You're scrolling the Internet.
She does.
And it's perfect just in the background, though.
It's not like football where it dominates the ambiance.
It's like you can't do anything with football's on, but watch football.
But soccer, it can almost wash over you while you do other things.
And the commentators have nice soft English accents.
It's nice in the background.
It's very wonderful.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know.
She just doesn't like the game.
I don't know.
I got to convince her on the game.
I want to actually get into it with me is the thing, really.
So what I'm thinking, my wife and I enjoy the Rex, welcome to Rexum documentary.
and they have a women's
they talk about the women's soccer team
that is attached to the main team there
and I wonder if maybe
Aston Villa also has something like that
I don't think that's going to sell her
I mean a woman's team that's your pitch
that's your pitch? I don't know I'm trying anything
no offense but
I don't know that's going to work
you don't like soccer
you don't like soccer but hey
here's some women soccer she wants to watch the hot guys on Aston Villa
Like the really attractive men that are playing soccer
is what she wants to watch.
I don't know how white people watch.
I think.
If you like women's soccer, stick with the U.S. women's national team.
All right, that's going to do it for today on the Canaan Sports Edition of the Will Kane show.
We'll see you again on Monday.
