Starting point is 00:00:00 Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life? You know, the same way you can skip an ad? I get it. I'm Siaya and I live in Ice Cove. I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned. And today I'm still figuring it out. Somehow things usually get worse before they get better. Apparently, that's how I roll.
Starting point is 00:00:22 So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride. Stream a new episode of North of North Tuesdays on CBC Gem. all right play date time episode 200 could you bring your cowboy hat you have my cowboy hat i think i have your cowboy boots oh uh yes i can bring my cowboy hat okay i couldn't i can't find well actually this is kind of funny uh for the podcast play date sorry nothing oh yeah we're telling me a story yeah i was telling you sorry what were you saying i was listening to you when i when we left nashville flute when i flew home to maine i had acquired or i had brought boots and you had brought me boots yes and i
Starting point is 00:01:15 brought my cowboy hat and then i had acquired a bunch of clothing in nashville so when i was packing the morning of my flight it was the night after my show i was a little hungover i was like oh god i can't fit any of this shit i was like my only option here is to go full cowboy because you can't wear cowboy you can't wear cowboy like i couldn't fit the boots and the hat in my bag i actually i disagree i think you can go half cowboy because it's like okay he just bought those there if i'm wearing like nice boots and a nice cowboy hat and then like my boots are athletic shorts and a t-shirt yeah yeah that was like a fucking idiot my boots are also not under the radar they are they're like alligator alligator and then green yeah they're green
Starting point is 00:01:55 play date is brought to you by bear bells rusty show me your bear bells i mean there was no i was so i just basically wore the the jeans i had bought which that's awesome did you wear a t-shirt instead of the no i had a different uh like collared like button-down shirt because the other thing is on the i didn't really have a jacket and i want to be like warm on the plane yeah so i was just dressed fully like a guy who's like a cowboy which i am thinking like i look kind of mysterious like you know there's not like mysterious it's like the it's like you're peacocking at the airport yeah yeah but like you know when you're flying from nashville right then it's like okay maybe this guy's like a legit cowboy or like yeah exactly and then i
Starting point is 00:02:43 land in maine and i'm getting off the plane and you see if and there's also like okay this guy's from a rustic county right right you know there are parts of maine where you could that could be your outfit and uh but i'm walking through and i'm getting cool like guys being like i don't in my mind i feel cool a little bit with my music playing and stuff and then i get out my parents are waiting for me at the car and i get out to the curb and they're both like and like pointing and laughing and oh no and then ever and then i'm like fuck now i'm like an idiot now everyone here knows this isn't like my thing getting into your parents bmw makes really really gets rid of the cowboy allure it was in well no even into their electric fully electric car
Starting point is 00:03:21 putting your bag putting your saddle in their smart car yeah strapping their saddle strapping your saddle to the toolie of their smart car fucking bullshit man um and so i anyway when i was getting ready to fly back same thing no i mean nothing had changed yeah that's true you didn't get it actually acquired a new hat so the problem had worsened uh so i left my cowboy hat in maine because i couldn't stomach doing it again yeah i mean i did wear the boots going to portland so for the people at home portland jetport is the size of this studio essentially and i don't know if you experience this but every time i go there i see like 20 people i know the thought of dressing like a cowboy at portland international jetport
Starting point is 00:04:10 i would rather there are a lot of things i would rather do yeah no i'd rather get kicked in the balls than do that i wasn't i was not worried i don't really know that many people in maine outside of like my family yeah but if anyone saw did anyone see you and be like will he no why are you why are you just i mean i feel like that would have been hysterical i don't know i wasn't that worried about i was more worried about the random people or like you know what i was worried about like a guy who's like a real random guys he's like watermelon bacon i was worried about like a guy who's like a real cowboy being like hey buddy your boots are on backwards or something
Starting point is 00:04:51 it's stolen valor yeah what yeah what what two or infantry were buddy this button not like yeah yeah I went through it. What range were you on? Your boots are on back. I was like, fuck. I knew these were uncomfortable. Your toes are out the back.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Oh, my God. I went through a little bit of a stolen valor phase where I was, like, obsessed with those guys getting caught that they weren't in the Navy SEALs or whatever. Oh, those videos? What is that? Why do we want to see that? Does it make us feel better about, like, not about our lives? or like why do we why do we like seeing guys get in trouble for that i don't know i think it's like i think we like watching videos when there's like complete moral clarity on one it's clear
Starting point is 00:05:44 it's like obviously movies yeah yeah or like like the like throwing cheeseburgers at a pedophile or something yeah it's like he eats them yeah no no he catches it out of the nice thing i just fuck i got burgers on the mind i made we made some dank burgers last night on your grill yeah i've been getting good at them do you have have you kind of started working on a special sauce i feel like that's like we we made a special dylan made this so what's the name it's a team effort i'm gonna give my my sous chef credit here it's kind of like the it's the nuclear codes where you all know what ingredient you put in but no one else knows the other one so no one can ever recreate so no one can ever exactly uh and well we had we grilled on saturday okay and then we
Starting point is 00:06:32 had leftovers and so yeah on saturday it was like we were drinking i just made like very like classic cheeseburger right you can get a little experimental on sunday and then on sunday i got a little experimental and uh we went to whole foods and got a bunch of stuff and so dylan made like a homemade burger sauce and what's in his sauce or is it it's kind of i'd have to kill you magician i actually don't know he's making it while i was grilling uh grilled onion he makes it in his room we grilled onions on the grill i made some broccolini on the grill that was yummy what is broccolini it's like broccoli and asparagus at a baby i did they is it did it exist or did we make it google it bless you did we like genetically engineer broccoli like which came first the
Starting point is 00:07:17 broccoli or the broccolini when i was a kid i thought there was a chance maybe broccoli was like the top of broccolini but then the scale was way off does it i feel like i didn't learn about broccolini until i moved to la i'm not even lying i it was served at a restaurant that we went to growing up but that was the only place i'd ever like damn way damn way i grew up down in south carolina we south carolina all we have a collard green what you did the voice way earlier that's just southern guy that's not that's just like country bump i know i know every time i do a southern exit you look at me like it's a black was that a black sun oh i just think collard greens was a bad isn't that like your guy's thing yeah i do like collard or like mustard greens
Starting point is 00:08:02 yeah collard greens are great yes i've never had them i just think it's i think associated with black people for whatever reason well there's that i you know i'm thinking of the off in the office oh yeah i think taken out of you know when they that video came out of joe rogan like every time obviously we don't we don't say the n-word but there was like a compilation he said it like a hundred times apparently joe rogan can you just google has he said it because i don't want to just accuse him if he has it he has 20 times across the 12-year span yeah okay so averaging two almost two a year that's that's insane but like if you it you know if someone took my collard greens comment out of context and like they're like rusty rusty does collard greens in
Starting point is 00:08:53 a southern accent on average twice a year yeah that could start to look that could start to look bad yeah yeah reminds me of like that um chet holmgren uh interview where he's like they're like what's your favorite thing at thanksgiving like collard green oxtail they're like you're not eating oxtail at thanksgiving yeah wait what is broccolini did we ever figure it out i mean it was just broccoli right he's also wearing a broccolini versus broccoli one dollar broccolini versus a thousand dollar broccolini in the hood prank uh well regular broccoli we know what it is oh broccoli that's what i had last night and thick and woody you had large has a large head
Starting point is 00:09:41 and thick woody stalks she gave me a large head on my thick woody i can't feel anything close your mouth um yeah wait so here's a question for another chad holmgren question for you he wears a do-rag now what purpose does a do-rag serve for a white guy it's not real what do you mean it's like a photoshopped picture bro i've seen him wearing it in person not in person but pull it up no i'm pretty sure it's like ai dude he i've seen him wear it i mean it's not It's not real Bro what do you mean it's not real It's not a real picture
Starting point is 00:10:29 What do you mean it's not a real picture Like why who would fake that It doesn't even look real What do you mean This is a Centel tweet Do you know NBA Centel They're like a parody account for NBA Centel
Starting point is 00:10:47 That doesn't mean it didn't happen He photoshopped it i bet he's i mean he definitely owns one if he's eating oxtail he definitely owns one i owned one in college i'm not not not proud of it but were you rocking it um rocking it's a strong word i mean yeah they can't fight there's no photo of him without it maybe it's not definitely real it's the nba centel yeah the ultimate like nba troll but other people have i mean they definitely just wait can you just say google is it real yeah maybe it's on like quora quora that's what i fucking sound like um
Starting point is 00:11:31 no it's not real it's ai generator i wanted it to be real so bad yeah wait can you go to the video of him talking about it uh this one yeah that might be my favorite centel posts because it actually looks cold when he figured out when he figured out how to use photoshop whoever runs that took it to another level i get out one at eight out of ten see centel gotta retire that do-rag picture they've used it too many times so but i also gotta clear up this quote he is from minnehaha minnesota that is a fact minnehaha how does he have that accent that is impossible maybe like everyone from minnehaha just sounds like that like there's this one pocket of what is where is that outside minneapolis
Starting point is 00:12:24 yeah i think it's just like an affluent suburb of um that would be hilarious maybe it's something about the name chet because every chet i know talks like that have you ever seen that white guy on tiktok that's trying to get waves he like wears a new rag every day oh i have seen that yeah i thought about it when i was a kid but uh yeah it was just too much of a commitment i mean there are white guys i mean he wore it for a long time how does it not what are you most proud of listen a lot of y'all said i couldn't do it my hair too straight do you does this boy even know what he is but come on look at it oh come on he's drowning it's about half a year worth of work i did it i proved all you haters wrong
Starting point is 00:13:21 and yeah that's what i'm most proud of so far couldn't you just like gel your as a white guy like your our hair is pretty malleable you could just like gel it into that position right i have absolutely no idea what if i was like you can it just takes a while but yeah i could send you some links if you're looking for the right kind of gel good point can you go to the can you go to the blue guy the blue do-rag one to the right yeah this white boy is trying to get waves he uses og walker red alert all right what else is going on um wait have you seen have you seen you know those jubilee videos where yeah it'll be like one one girl versus five secret boys or the other way around yeah yeah there's one where it's like
Starting point is 00:14:13 one white guy and the rest are black people and he grew up he was like adopted by a black family and it is they i think he like gets to the end yeah you know which guy i'm talking about and they they were like mad they like couldn't believe he sounded he sounded like chad holmgren a little bit yeah we should probably talk about something else so what would you guys like to what's going on in your life oh man i am just grateful to be alive another day on earth i was thinking about with the cowboy boots there was one time um after middle school we were all going to practice we had run the mile that day because it was like part of did you guys have to do that like run the mile once a semester for your like p i think it was once yeah once a year maybe yeah yeah for the
Starting point is 00:14:56 presidential fit we had to do every presidential fitness thing once i don't think we i think it was just the mile by the time and uh you do like sitting reach oh we had to like touch our like hands behind her back did you have to do that i think that's just like i think that's just like making sure you don't have scoliosis wait really i think the nurse is just like i i thought that That was like an athleticism thing. Now, everyone bend over and check your testicles for wumps. What exercise is this? I feel like scoliosis would help you make them touch more.
Starting point is 00:15:32 Yeah, it depends on which way you're curving. Yeah, I don't know. But anyway, so we go to the locker room after school, and my friend's like, fuck, fuck, fuck. And he's like losing his mind. And we're like, what's wrong? and he had worn cowboy boots to school that day and forgot to bring an extra pair of shoes
Starting point is 00:15:51 to run the mile. So he had to run the whole mile in cowboy boots. Just go barefoot at that point. Yeah, why not just go barefoot? That's a good question. The track is pretty bumpy. I mean, I think it was hot too. Yeah, yeah, Texas.
Starting point is 00:16:05 It was really, really hot. I mean, it was like 100 degrees that day. So he ran the whole thing in cowboy boots and he finished with like a 20-42 time or something like that. It was so funny. His feet were, like, bleeding. I thought you could just, like, walk it.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Can't you, like, walk a mile in, like, 13 minutes? Yeah, I mean, he was slowing himself down. Yeah, I think he took a couple breaks. Guys, this episode is brought to you by Bear Bells, and we are here to talk about the new Camp S'mores flavor. Guys, S'mores. Can I tell you about my S'mores history? Please.
Starting point is 00:16:39 When I grew up, we used to always make S'mores, and i would this my innovation was i would put the graham cracker on the middle and put the marshmallows on the outside but it would make my hands so messy that i gave up maybe you could do two more like a club sandwich oh baby i didn't even think of that um anyway i'm gonna try this now yeah please oh my god it's gas right this is better than when i put two marshmallows on the outside and the graham cracker in the middle all right guys barebells is the number one protein bar in the u.s barebells makes protein bars with

Starting point is 00:19:45 And his strides were just, like, literally, like, eight inches long. And he ran it in, like, 36 minutes. We were like, how is that even, like? And he was, like, it wasn't like he, like, got tired. It was just like. It's, like, around the thing, like, kind of, like, he just, like, stutter-stepped around the thing. Man. Step counterpoint, sir.
Starting point is 00:20:05 like a hundred thousand steps to run a mile dude i uh i this is the opposite of running but i joined wait the opposite of running skiing bingo no the opposite of running would be pickles or something right random random uh i'm being random wait oh that right dude when i i remember like you remember like that was like a time in our lives like being random was like you're the funniest i remember when i we dropped my sister off at college at xavier she her roommate that she had found like on facebook or whatever had a little brother that was like my age okay and we went to meet him and meet him like before like it was like the godfather it was like they were like moving in and like i was brought over like there was like a basketball court and it was like oh
Starting point is 00:20:56 you guys got it be friends and they had established that like oh we both love like being random or whatever like there was like i don't know they had had some time like he liked we were like set up and i just remember i walk up i'm like oh hi i'm will and he's like i like bacon that was the first thing he said and i just went like oh fuck he's too random he's i've met my i've met my match yeah and like i don't like this guy now i don't want to hang out with him i like bacon he's like i'm like you know listen i'm all all about being random but i still start with the hi i'm will like he didn't even say hi i'm blank right also you gotta like you gotta pick your moments right you gotta be in the middle of basketball it's all like medes i mean that would have crushed
Starting point is 00:21:36 yeah anyway was he aware that he was in the presence of the author of the random book series crazy crazy times or something probably not no probably not fucking or maybe he was he was so like maybe you inspired him yeah yeah have you ever seen so random no i somehow missed this that's a youtube video no it was a disney channel it was like their snl and i somehow it must have been like right after i stopped watching disney channel can you pull up the so random intro is that the uh like debbie ryan show uh no i don't think she was in it but watch this intro this is fucking crazy oh yeah it's just a show about being random
Starting point is 00:22:27 it's actually not as crazy as i remember I think I was just Oh Cody Simpson I think you're right I think it was like their SNL So random Different special guests Like every episode
Starting point is 00:22:58 Alright please stop I can't watch more of this show So that's kind of what I grew up on Yeah so Okay Alright so backtracking I got distracted No I did it myself
Starting point is 00:23:12 You got distracted I got distracted Well no I said the opposite Of something was pickles And that was on a whole i joined gold's gym no way wow which is a very intimidating yeah yeah starting are they like whistling at you and being like fresh meat no they're cat calling yeah no well so i'm gonna fuck your ass whoa there are some like the freakiest looking dudes you've ever seen there
Starting point is 00:23:40 like into like like their bodies are like bursting at the seams but they don't seem like freaky they're not freaky guys they're like oh they're not no it's like they're like too old like it's like they're like old and like clearly this is like their life yeah but they just look gross down on the beach or the venice one the the venice one you're not at like muscle no no okay i'm at the venice which is actually a good like it's massive in there yeah so there's also like an outdoor there's like a back and a front outdoor there's two outdoors and the insides near there one time justa maybe yeah anyway it's right by my house and uh do you have like a workout routine are you kind of just like i'm figuring it out i'm new to the game uh i'm still i still haven't
Starting point is 00:24:27 really you know there's a few things i'm like scared to do i i want to go with like a armand goes so i might start trying to meet up with him in the morning he's pretty big yeah um you know who i also saw there recently was wait you go there yeah yeah oh you go to that yeah i thought you guys can like spot each other oh my god yeah yeah i'll happily work out i knew i guess i did know that maybe but i didn't realize wait when when do you go usually uh after work okay like as soon as i leave here i go straight there so i've been the first so far i've been a member for three days uh-huh and i've gone twice nice i've gone in the mornings okay yeah yeah but i don't know how sustainable that is so we'll see i go like in the mornings like early afternoons
Starting point is 00:25:07 on like the weekends and that's typically when i see like armand um but i saw lucas there the other day luke has joined as well okay recently yeah okay yeah we were talking about he goes after work too does he okay i've always seen the ones after work is always dicey because then it's like if we have a shoot or something like i'm sleepy or i'm tired yeah it's like it's harder to like it's easy if i just get up and do it then it's like yeah i did it i don't know we'll see anyway uh that the moral of my story was that day one 10 minutes like i walk in and walk around pick a machine i'm sitting machine and i look to my right i didn't even notice it's arnold schwarzenegger's working out like i've won one machine over no way and i was like oh my god
Starting point is 00:25:50 all right this is like i felt it felt like seeing like it felt like seeing babe ruth on your first day of batting practice like it's like i'm gonna be a star i'm gonna be the the greatest weight lifter it's like sunday morning it was uh no it was friday morning friday morning okay friday morning at like 8 30 or something yeah he i'm shocked he doesn't just have he do you think he just enjoys the camaraderie it's also like he started that gym oh he started the whole goal this is the original golds it now it's like a national change technically joe gold well technically joe but arnold was like or he i don't know how do you already know all that you've been there three days i knew this before all over the walls though yeah i knew this was like yeah well of
Starting point is 00:26:35 course joe gold started no i i knew this before because the actual original original golds is on pacific it's not a gym anymore but you drive by it's right by my old house like a store um it's like nothing honestly but they recently repainted the the facade of it that says it doesn't say gold it says gold's gym but it used to be like really faded and i thought it was cool like that was the old and then they just like repainted it wait why don't they have a gym there anymore it's tiny like it's like probably 1 15th the size of the new but they just keep it as like a landmark yeah interesting yeah yeah but then you'll get to know all the characters there yeah what's crazy is like no matter what time during the day i go like there is always somebody there like i went
Starting point is 00:27:23 at like 11 a.m on a wednesday one time and all the same people that i see all the time were there and i was like are you guys just like perpetually just at the gym all day well it was like i was like running late to work and then i had to like take a shit really bad so i just pulled over and i went to gold's gym and i took a shit and i left but like as i walked through the gym i was like oh my god workout was that i haven't used it where's the oh i know where the bathroom is i think yeah and then um but there's two guys that i'm pretty sure like live at the gym or they live in their car outside the gym and then they come in during the day and then
Starting point is 00:27:58 when the gym closes, they go back and they live in their car. Are they huge? One is. And then the other, I don't think works out. Because he's always just like ripping metal, like, or ripping electric guitar. Ripping metal? Stop ripping the weights
Starting point is 00:28:14 in half! Sorry, he's ripping electric guitar in the gym? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He like plugs in like headphones into his guitar and listens to it and he has his phone playing some like chord progression
Starting point is 00:28:26 and he's just like going at it all day. Are you allowed to do that at the gym? In the like back area where all the microwaves are. What? Microwaves?
Starting point is 00:28:34 Yeah, yeah, yeah. You mean all the microwaves? How many microwaves? Wait, what are you talking, where, there's like a new part of our gym I just saw. There's a part where,
Starting point is 00:28:41 where? There's a part of the gym where there's like a big table by like the lockers, not in the locker room. Like upstairs? Downstairs.
Starting point is 00:28:51 like when you come in you just hook a right and there's like a back corner over there oh really have you been to locker room yet no oh i mean i live so close like i have no reason to to go to the locker room to pee during like a workout or oh to pee to be maybe but not to like change or anything oh yeah is the locker room like are there like guys in there like snapping towels and like is it gross pretty close i mean it always smells like horrible in there but there's always like roided up dudes who were just covered in bacne everywhere bacne yeah because like why is that a thing that it you get acne when you because it like boosts the testosterone and testosterone gives you acne i think so isn't that why you get like acne during puberty i don't know i i somehow
Starting point is 00:29:37 avoided that which was awesome my brother had had you know not to put him on blast but he had pretty bad acne and i never got it really even like a little on my face or on anything did he get like accutane yeah i've heard that's like terrible for you uh i think it's i think the impact of having like cystic acne on your like mental health is probably so much worse yeah but i heard accutane just like really fucks with like your hormones and everything in your body you know how to make a hormone fuck her ass you don't pay her shit i always get that one wrong uh both my sisters i think went on it and i had like cousins that went on it and i think it's just like at some point you're like i would do i would take 10 years off my life to just have skin clear
Starting point is 00:30:30 skin really yeah i just the no drinking thing was kind of a non-negotiable for me at 13 so at 13 i was just so i didn't get on it yeah did you start drinking at 13 no no i'm just kidding that's dude i'll use some of these like actors or like famous people will be like i've had a drink every day since i was seven years old yeah how are you like alive yeah my dad said one time my grandpa was mowing the lawn he was just curious and he was just like i just like took a huge swig of the whiskey and i was like how old were you he's like seven i was like oh my god even stomach it was like jesus yeah i remember going on a high school trip one time and i was a senior in high school and there were like some sophomores that came by and they like fully like knew what they
Starting point is 00:31:17 were doing like with like they're like games they're like throwing the shaker behind their back making like tom collins what the hell yeah what high school do i go and they were like yeah we've been doing this since we were like 12 and i was like oh my god they were like yeah we'd always go to this one person's house in like sixth grade wait what is like what is like knowing what you're doing look like if you're eating taco bell you're gonna want a white not a red wait a white wine like they're like they know what to pair they're like really classy alcohol yeah yeah what were they like they yeah they knew like what gatorade went best with spedka yeah that was the first thing i ever drank was blue gatorade really okay yeah honestly maybe it was something like that i
Starting point is 00:32:02 thought it was i can't remember which came first there were two isolated instances like you know you did you drink and then and then just not drink again for like a year or something or did were you i never tried it until until you were good to go yeah i just do it to like second semester or maybe first semester senior year of high school whoa the first time was either it was either six angry orchards or vodka and blue gatorade i can't remember which came first i remember i've never had i've never had a cider since then because i was i was over the toilet vomiting for like the entire night do you have to pee i have to poop out my ass this episode is brought to you by mug vanilla howler come on willy when when did you have that

Starting point is 00:36:08 cold sometimes i want cereal but i don't really do well with dairy so i was like you know what i'm gonna get lactaid milk i'm gonna get lactose free okay milk so i can have my sick snack without sort of have your cake and eat it too i'm gonna have my cake and eat it which i you know i thought i was going to be the first guy to be able to do that the saying is you can't do that yeah right i disregarded that and i have a little beef with lactate i got diarrhea to the fucking nth degree more than if i just had regular milk and i was like are they just lying or am i just do you think my body is just maybe so stupid it just maybe it's the cereal that makes you shit this whole time it's been the cereal what kind of cereal dude honeycombs which i've never had
Starting point is 00:37:00 before but i saw a guy talking about how when he has a sore throat he eats honeycombs and he puts a little less milk in it so it would scrape all the shit off his throat it didn't work but uh but i just literally the second i took the first bite went into the bathroom and i had to like hold myself down i was gonna like i it was like you're gonna pop through the ceiling literally like it was like sitting on top of a fire hydrant it's gonna like blow my ass off wait what what are honeycombs are they good now they're buns what's the best cereal all right ready cereal all right ready wait i need to think cereal draft oh wait wait wait oh okay no no let's say it on three oh say the best cereal three wait wait wait a second i'll do three two one and then
Starting point is 00:37:45 we'll say it on like on what would be go are we talking about the best tasting or like you can only have one for the rest of your life i guess best tasting because if it was like one for the rest of your life it'd be like cheerios we're all like cheerios all right no they wouldn't be cheerios mom would be like all right ready no okay i'm gonna wait for him yeah i don't mind okay i'm ready i'm ready three two one I feel like Andrew and I both had much more words. What did you say? I said frosted mini-wheats, the ones with the chocolate chips in them.
Starting point is 00:38:24 I didn't even know those existed. I didn't know they made them with chocolate. I do like frosted. The mini-chocolate ones. I just don't like frosted mini-wheats. The first half of the bowl is great, but at the end, they're too soggy. God, that first one, I want to fuck it. And then by the end, I'm like, this thing sucks.
Starting point is 00:38:38 I eat cereal raw, so I don't have to deal with that. Oh, well, that's not a mushy stuff. Is that you raw-dog it? that doesn't count why because i don't know i just never grew up drinking it with milk i just drinking it it's a fucking breakfast you drink it at the end uh i said like how do you drink your pancakes he drank guy drinks breakfast write that down uh i said reese's puffs i've never had i think it's the best cereal my mom would never let us have them so it's a good one my mom would draw these weird lines in the sand where she was like we're not allowed to have apple juice because
Starting point is 00:39:09 she thought it was too sugary and then when i was like 16 i was like you know what i'm gonna google this orange juice is sugary more sugary by a fucking mile oh we weren't my mom didn't let us have orange juice either she said it was like mainlining sugar that's what i fucking told her after i googled it we did so i was for the record we were i wasn't reese's puffs were like on vacation or like at a friend's house like yeah in my house it was like family guy the best we got was raisin bran which is pretty good whoa yeah raisin bran's pretty awesome that was the best you got like we weren't allowed to have any like sugar i'm with you really i'm right there with the raisin but on raisin bread is the same shit as as as frosted mini wheats though where that
Starting point is 00:39:45 first bite is like sure i can get a little yeah but you got to go fast when we i remember we'd go to mccain we'd go to mccain every summer and we'd say you should run for president man no we'd go to i'm sorry i'm sorry what the japanese did to you um so the japanese wasn't he in the middle east or i thought the japanese poked him with sticks for like months and like broke his arms and stuff who tortured john or no maybe it was vietnam vietnamese the north vietnamese the vietnamese people would break his i was gonna say like i don't think he's that old they'd break his arms well i think he didn't he die Correct.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Oh, oh, oh. John McCain? John McCain died? Like five years ago. No way. Dude, such a bummer. Yeah. Wait, are you guys McCain-ing me?
Starting point is 00:40:35 That would be... No, it was probably, yeah, probably five years ago. 2018, six years ago. What? Eight years ago. Whoops. Yeah, he was like a child. He was born in Coco Solo, Panama.
Starting point is 00:40:49 Wait, what? Wouldn't have that on my bingo card. Was that part of the U.S.? I think he has to be a natural-born U.S. citizen. Yeah. I think Panama is part of the U.S. Not to be a senator, but to be a president. Oh, yeah, he ran for president.
Starting point is 00:41:01 What the hell? How is he going to be president? Wait. Isn't Panama owned by the U.S.? Oh, at the time it was. Because it's like they owned the straits, I would think. Also, if you're on a, like, naval base, which he probably was. Wait, click on it.
Starting point is 00:41:14 Yeah, look at birth. It's just a video. Oh, yeah, Naval Air Station, yeah. Yeah. Loophole. But they'd break his arms. i believe don't quote me here they'd break his arms wait for them to heal and then break them again they were those guys were no bueno and that's why i don't eat pho
Starting point is 00:41:34 jacob wanted to get pho i love pho i've never had it something about that with the exception of thailand something about that area cuisine wise scares me like spicy murky waters you've never had do you even know what is skylar tried to get me to eat like a hundred times i never did it i'm sure i'd love it i'm sure like everything else i'm stubborn about it's like the best kind like he said he said he was shocked that he thought it was right up my alley specifically i think he would love it yeah what is what is it is like ramen yeah kind of yeah it's not far off it's like noodles and yeah i think the noodles are bigger yeah which is you like ramen the big thing i love ramen but i don't i don't like like uh like i rarely eat ramen out you're talking like
Starting point is 00:42:29 the i'm talking like pre-packaged yeah yeah well the good you gotta get out there man well we had that ramen a whole life i mean the bright side this is like how i feel about movies yeah it's like oh my god i've got the fact that you still have that to unlock yeah it's gonna blow your mind but i only have that one region and india so i guess you don't you've never had indian food you know this about me i tried curry that one time when you and i were on a flight and i shit myself okay the airline curry can't be this i know also yeah you might shit yourself that's part dude you never had like tikka masala i mean it's hard to say like you know it could have happened at some point but i've never like sat down at an indian restaurant this is great any foods maybe
Starting point is 00:43:14 that's top top three cuisine i just remember i was scared so i've been scared of curry my entire life you and i were on that flight home from wherever yeah curry was the thing for some reason was what they were serving that day and i got it and i was like you know what fuck it and i was like having such a good time like this is so good and then and if i like airline curry i'm sure like the place the michelin star place down the street would like yeah my fucking cock would explode jesus yeah why do you guys let me talk why am i talking like that i don't know it's just do i normally talk like this well sometimes but today i've definitely been i've been talking like dan powers you're on a heater i'm on a heater i think i've just i literally i haven't with the
Starting point is 00:43:59 exception of saturday the furthest i got out of bed was the kitchen from wednesday until what'd you do on saturday you made to the i had an iron fitting for golf that i was just like i don't want reschedule this so i went sick what is an iron fitting uh i want to get i'm getting new irons and so you go to a guy who is good at like building clubs well and he like walks you through it and he fits it in your hands it in your hand it's all molded and yeah yeah literally the iron chooses you yeah it kind of does feel like olivanders where he's like like uh he'll you'll be hitting one and then he'll be like okay try this one and you'll hit one he's like no definitely not grab it grab it back that's one yeah you remember when you remember when you cried at
Starting point is 00:44:45 all vendors yeah i cried at the wine shop because the one chose you right the one the one did choose you yeah well and i got yeah i got picked for like the big we were hammered yeah and then i got picked to be like it's like i was so luke and i were so mad and the one chose me that would be like if we were at if we were at star wars world yes and i got chosen to like kill darth vader the chosen one i know i know chosen to be the chosen one i know man i watched everything on i watched every show this weekend i just what are you even watching i watched a little uh i've also been i was also kind of i don't know like i are the medicine the over-the-counter medicine can be like kind of strong like i was just kind of like loopy all medicine taking a mucinex which
Starting point is 00:45:42 there should there isn't anything in there that would alter your mind um yeah i was taking z cam i was taking advil i was taking um oh my god the robitussin the robitussin i was feeling i was feeling good that's a whole cocktail i was feeling i almost i thought about making lean with ginger ale but then i was like whoa i've i've never done it what i don't or robitussin i don't even know or mucinex or anything robitussin is just like unk medicine it's like what they give you like Like, McCain, they probably, like, if McCain got sick at that POW camp, they'd probably give him Robitussin. Okay. Did your parents also not let you just have, like, medicine as a child?
Starting point is 00:46:28 Did yours? Yeah. I feel like every time you talk about your childhood, it feels like you, like, grew up in, like, Guantanamo Bay. No, it was a lovely childhood, but we didn't, no. Quite honestly. No sugar, no TV, no medicine. Yeah, I mean, it was. You were, like, Little House on the Prairie.
Starting point is 00:46:44 No medicine feels like insane. Were they, like, anti-vaxxers? No, no, no, no, no. not not no medicine i think they were just always like averse to like i don't know like i said i didn't really get sick much so maybe maybe we never had to confront it but like if i was sick it would just be like go sleep make you know my mom make me soup or something and i just but i've literally never taken like any like all those things that people take i've never taken maybe like advil sometimes yeah but never really more than i've never taken uh like
Starting point is 00:47:16 zyrtec or yeah or z-quil or dayquil or nyquil or did they take you to the doctor i guess you weren't sick yeah yeah i had a like good i went to the doctor i'm fully vaccinated you broke got my covid booster um my dad was telling me that they the doctor gave us our like hpv shots or whatever at like a very young age and he was like that feels like weird right it's not like a sexually transmitted disease yeah but i think like you probably can't there probably has to be some way you could get it otherwise yeah i think kids all get them don't they no no like he was just he was just like like why shocked that it was that early i guess yeah i remember getting a tetanus one like every god isn't the needle like the size of
Starting point is 00:48:07 like your fist yeah that was a really scary guy thick punches that one was scary um we had to get a lot for school do you remember that that was like part of your physical was getting like eight shots well you got a physical at school no for school oh oh yeah that was the worst it was like you'd go get your binders for the year it was the worst day ever it was like let's go to staples for an hour and a half and then we're gonna go and get you a million shots staples and then you're running into everyone you know from school there i think i need to start getting my shots again i just don't go to the i haven't been to the doctor since i've been an adult and i get right out like what am i just saying i never get sick and then i immediately got yeah that was wild i think god
Starting point is 00:48:50 smited me god's plan my doctor here is unbelievable like she operates in beverly hills and it is like going to the gucci store for walmart prices because she's like covered by my insurance so So no matter where I go, I pay the same amount of co-pay. Got it. But the overall vibe and the level of service is like Beverly Hills level. They're like massaging your... Wait, what is so nice? Is it just a...
Starting point is 00:49:18 What's so nice about it? I mean, the inside literally looks like a Gucci store. Is that what you want your doctor's office to look like? Yeah, I want the whole place to be like Louis Vuitton wallpaper. Why are there so many purses in here? No, but the inside literally looks like... His office feels very shoe heavy. I just feel like it looks like the inside of a Gucci store that I would imagine.
Starting point is 00:49:40 I don't think I've ever been in a Gucci store, so I'm having trouble picturing it. It's just very clean. Yeah, it was very clean, very nice, very aesthetic. It almost looked like it had the Louis Vuitton wallpaper, you know what I'm talking about? Where it's brown. I do kind of know what he's talking about. Yeah. Am I getting designer right now?
Starting point is 00:49:59 You've never heard of Louis Vuitton? No, I'm saying you want your doctor's office to look like the Louis Vuitton store? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get what it's like upscale. It's like, it's nice. I want it to be like sterile and like clean. No, no, no, no. I want it to feel like I'm going to get like a massage at the end, you know?
Starting point is 00:50:17 Like I want it to feel like a spa. Massages are too sexual for me. Do you ever get worried when you knew the doctor was going to look at your penis, you were worried you were going to like think of something sexy? Well, that kind of sucked because like all of her like helpers were like my age. They were all like my age And so that was a little tough I probably haven't said this on the podcast Tell me
Starting point is 00:50:39 Hit me I had something where I had to get my ding dong checked out I remember this And it was just like a young girl my age And I was like oh fuck I'm sorry You said you're sorry? No I just felt bad I was like is this any like some weathered old man
Starting point is 00:50:53 Who's seen a million penises It's her first penis my girl was like putting wires on me and she was like is it okay like if i lift your shirt up and i was like oh yeah and i started lifting it and she was like well not right now and i was like oh yeah no problem no problem it was just like the worst and then i had to pee in a cup and then i had to be like carry it out and be like where do i put my pee and she was just like uh put it over there or i'll take it and i was like i don't want to grow my usual usually there's like a little windy no i had to like walk out with it and i was like here's my red
Starting point is 00:51:29 full of blood um wait speaking of things that happened i saw the fray on friday dude in no way how was it it was awesome were you solo i went alone yeah well i had a we were shooting a sketch and the last shot was like a sunset shot on friday just like sunset's like 8 p.m so it was like i didn't know if i was gonna be able i had actually bought tickets and then i was like i don't think i'm gonna be able to make it so i'd sold my tickets got it and so then i was but then we wrapped the shoot and i was like if i hustle i could get there probably not miss much i looked up over my head was the seventh song so i was like i think i should be good to make it in time so i booked it over to the youtube theater and uh i made it in time i bought a ticket
Starting point is 00:52:19 on my phone on the way yeah i was gonna say the concert had already started and i bought a ticket and nice what you watching at the youtube theater dude the fray mr actually the youtube theater is a lot like your doctor's office it's very clean it's new it's nice it's like you've been there yeah i went for jim harbaugh's like press conference oh really like yeah when he signed to the team just as a fan no i was working there oh you worked yeah you worked there that recently Mm-hmm. I mean he's been the coach for two years. Yeah, I guess you're right. I was here like two years So it's like tail end. Well anyway, so I go to the YouTube theater a park I go to the show Well, I get there also I'd done all this I was tweaking ball
Starting point is 00:53:00 I get there the opener still on they must have like pushed the show time because it said show starts at 7 But I get there at 830 and the opener still performing. Oh weird like no way they've been going for an hour and a half dashboard confessional There were some songs where I was like, I think I've heard this. This has been on in a commercial. Yeah, it was fun. It was like punky. It was good.
Starting point is 00:53:24 And then the fray came on, and they brought the house down. And over my head was awesome. Did you see any detards? Didn't see any detards. I was kind of curious what the demographic was going to be. It was obviously older, more like 30s. Right. very heavily latino which i was like interesting like the phrase like yeah i mean
Starting point is 00:53:50 it's also like la so it's like maybe it was just like a numbers game but at least the section i was in felt like oh i was like one of the you know i would have guessed that the fret i thought the fray was maybe the whitest that's what i i think that's why i even made note of it i was like i expected this to be like the whitest crowd of all time yeah it'd be like if you went to like a george strait concert and everyone was like chinese you'd be like this is odd right yeah exactly it was like exactly and it's kind of like that it's like that okay um anyway over my head was great and then i was so tired i mean we'd shot for 12 hours or whatever and i was just like a couple beers i left after over my head i didn't even see how to say really i was
Starting point is 00:54:39 wonder if you were a fray fan or not i mean i am like i missed i love you found me and how to save the life which are the end i got to see uh look after you i'll look after you yeah you and i used to love that song yeah it's a freaking banger yeah listen we listened to that in that party bus and uh aiden sullivan was like apparently willie and i were we got like hammered at this bar and we were taking a party bus back to boston and we kept playing that song and in the morning our friend aiden sullivan was like you guys were like having a bro fest to that song we were just getting like very emotional yeah that song's so good dude that post 9-11 genre of music like the that's like what happened is like they all that's like why music is that way is like
Starting point is 00:55:34 everyone was making like sad like i feel like that was like 2005 or six i think it dude i think it was there was some lingering feelings like when did uh what song was it again uh look after you look after you 2000 september 13th dude i think we were still dealing with it because they music like people like weren't making like happy music i feel like for like a minute for like 2001 to like yeah 2003 maybe stop being music no i think it was just sad it was pretty close to the anniversary of 9-11 it was on the four-year anniversary september 13th all right i just heard that one time that music was sad and i wanted to bring it i believe that's true but i it's true okay here's here's maybe what i here's what i'll rebuttal with i bet the fray the fray
Starting point is 00:56:24 was making sad music as a result of that and then by the time they had gotten over that this was already their like niche yeah and maybe they had written or i think this was like kind of their their big break i mean they maybe they wrote it right after 9-11 what's the green day song that's about 9-11 september wake me up when september ends that's about his dad i thought it was about 9-11 no i mean that was my favorite song when i was a kid but i think his dad died in uh wait what yeah yeah wait when was september i thought it was when his dad died it also could just be a complete coincidence oh my god maybe you're right use it as a emotional tribute to september 11th and oh it says about the death of his father in september 1982 yeah yeah no i think it was just
Starting point is 00:57:15 like a like it lined up perfectly yeah yeah um did they play what's that green day song time of your life or whatever they played that when we graduated high school and i think i thought i i think i thought that that was always tacky but i kind of liked it really it was nice it was like a it was like a it's a bit like i was in like an early 2000s movie they did um i did it all by uh one republic you know that one i i did it all you know that one by ron in high school yeah yeah i think for mine it was um gangnam style no it was uh this sucks it was um that kim petras song treat me like a slut i actually really like him petras you don't like kim petras club kim petras
Starting point is 00:58:07 hey google couple of competitors uh no i don't know who this is can i do it quick this guy rocks yeah all right all right quickly quickly sorry sorry i can't remember what this is but i if i if i wrote it down it's worth it is like you want is that treat me like a slut no okay this is let's see who this is oh okay all right this is awesome do you know that guy i'm forgetting his uh dean withers do you know dean withers he's like a yeah debates people so dean withers is live and this guy joins him i don't know if it's debate or to just talk this is my favorite fucking clip i've seen all week this like got me through the
