Episode Date: September 17, 2026

How to handle social trolls? In this episode of Wolf & Owl, the boys are back with another collection of bizarre listener questions, questionable role plays, and deeply unnecessary discussions. Elsewhere, Romesh and Tom revisit their infamous Josh Widdicombe and Ross Kemp role play before attempting another one that goes spectacularly wrong. They also discuss tummy sticks, music speaker etiquette, and whether you really need social media to stay in the loop. And we address the topic of when friendly banter begins to cross a line. Starting point is 00:00:33 Actually we have another really good story for a while. No, we haven't. That's a really great story back in the day. Yeah, um, that's when they made an effort, isn't it? Am I right? Okay, should we do our first one? Yes, let's do it. Shall we? You go. I think you go first. Okay. All right, boys,
Starting point is 00:00:48 it's me again. Vern. I threatened our word if you did some more, so I'm afraid after your intro from your Do We Need a Summer Body podcast. I was once again compelled to turn your amazing songwriting skills into a track. This time it's not AI. It was taken from your actual audio so your vocals and melody once again it's only short
Starting point is 00:01:08 hope you enjoy keep up the banter and bollocks cheers verne well thank you for this French should we have a little love the end name I do well email special song welcome
Starting point is 00:01:20 email special we do list of questions and we try to help out if we can yo rumskron get Nathan got the answer and pull your trousers up this is unbelievable
Starting point is 00:01:59 oh my god that is Vern what an absolute legend that is a legend that is sick that's legendary stuff oh my god I can't believe how good that is
Starting point is 00:02:15 crushed it Vern thank you so much man holy shit that was great that's actually a banger yeah isn't it we could release that We could, yeah, we have to give Verne some sort of You put the whole thing together
Starting point is 00:02:32 Yeah We had to make it a bit longer as well How long does your I think you just put it out as it is Yeah no but how long does the track have to be To enter the charts Oh that's a good question I don't think
Starting point is 00:02:43 Because didn't that A chicken thing from Minecraft Get into the charts That's only like a minute long Yeah but that's less than a minute I'm guessing Steve's lava chicken Yeah What about a guy with a fish song recently
Starting point is 00:02:56 It's about one pound fish Yeah Yeah that's about 15 years ago, I think. Have they butchie for mock the week yet? No, I've never been but. They never wanted to be on it. That was a long time ago, the fish.
Starting point is 00:03:12 He's about one pound fish. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It feels like that's then, very, very, very cheap, that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What about Wakey wines? What's happened to him? Well, Prime went down the toilet and now, I don't think he's got the same.
Starting point is 00:03:23 It's prime gone now, that's it. It's not gone, but you're not paying. You were living off it for a while. You were living on that prime life because you had a big garage full of it, right? I didn't have a garage full of it, but they were sending it to me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Thank you so much, Vern. Vern is the kind of name. If you were to give Vern a project, he'd come away and do it well. Just name-wise. If you walked in and you were like, you had an operation to do. And you only knew people by name.
Starting point is 00:03:48 Yeah. Would Vern? Vern would be someone I'd look to and go, yeah, I'll take Vern. Yeah, I guess so. Yeah. Yeah. What other names are in the mix?
Starting point is 00:03:56 Ian, Kevin, Bruce. So you've got a choice to see Vern, Ian, Kevin and Bruce. Yeah. Okay. Your pool of go-to names, by the way. All right, do you want to do the next one? Who do you go with Vern, though, right? Out of those, yeah, I would do, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Yeah. All other things being equal. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Dear Wolf Owl Swan and the Coyote. We are the parents of two boys, the Capabara, age 13, and the golden-haired tamarin age 10, and all four of us love the pod.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Oh, nice. Hmm. we've recently returned from a family holiday to tagazut in morocco our apartment was in the hills with wi-fi that hardly worked the capy bar and the golden-haired tamarin decided that role plays would be used for our evening entertainment for thirty-night nights the boys re-enacted the ross kemp and josh whirge roleplay from the 27th of july episode the only challenge we had as parents were trying to explain what tommy six is appreciated. Yours truly the elk. 13 nights in a row of doing... That's incredible. That's a long... That's a longest shot. I was a bit nervous when the podcast team decided to clip that up and put it on social.
Starting point is 00:05:11 I was ecstatic. I... Because Ross and Josh are going to see that. Yeah, Josh is my friend and I was worried about Josh getting offended. Slightly. And Ross, you hate. I don't hate him. I just think... I've said my view. Yeah, no, I know.
Starting point is 00:05:28 I don't want to get into it again. You've already compromised me on the traitors enough as it is. Tummy sticks. How do you explain that to a 10 and 13 year old? It's fully erected penises and you sort of use them in a sword fight. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Does that help? Yeah. Yeah. That's pretty much it. Yeah, that is it. Is there a different way of explaining tummy sticks? I think, no, I mean, that is what tummy sticks is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:58 I think there's a world where you could you could say that... Tommy sticks is... You could put a lollipop stick in your belly button and do that. Yeah, sure. Okay, so let's... Tommy sticks, Capibara and Golden Head Tamarin.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Tommy sticks is where you stick a lollipop stick into your belly button and you have a little sword fight. Well, I mean, I'm guessing if you listen to the show, you've just heard Romish's... Oh yeah, that's true. He went straight in with the actual explanation. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Yeah. And Romish, by the way, an incredible tummy stick. I was actually a West Sussex tummy sticks champion four years running. I could actually I would say for Ross Kemp's defence he would be insane at tummy sticks. To have that level of aggression. If it was actually a tummy stick though, do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:06:47 Yeah, that would be like a lollipop stick or... Yeah, but what I'm saying is... Do you ever play poo sticks? We throw some sticks in a river. Yeah. Do I ever play that game? When you see a river and a bridge, don't you get... like a cut of bridges do you not get excited
Starting point is 00:06:59 and go oh fucking poo sticks Grace still like women being past Grace still how old is Grace 4 and half right okay so fucking hell when she's gonna grow out of that do you not play with the boys if you're on a family walk break off a couple of branches
Starting point is 00:07:16 of a tree I'm breaking off something during a walk you don't break off a couple of branches for I'm in yeah we probably have done yeah it's great man yeah it's great all right well look First of all, what I would say is I'm surprised that children of that age are listening.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Yeah, I am slightly. Well, it actually makes you feel about your boys not listening. Well, they're not listening because I've got no interest. You know what would be amazing getting Alex and Charlie to act out the Josh and Ross Kemp thing? Which finishes with tummy sticks? No. What's wrong with you? Not a tomm.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Alex would obviously be Ross. Right. Charlie would be doing amazing Josh. Yeah. I think you probably would actually. Yeah. Hi, you sexy bitches. Oh, hello.
Starting point is 00:07:56 I have just returned from a semi-relaxing holiday in Greece. and stayed at a small adults-only boutique hotel can you whistle no my partner and I are both teachers so we look for a quiet
Starting point is 00:08:10 adults-only hotel as this is our one week away in the sun before we get ready for another year of teaching Ramesh I'm sure you remember what it was like preparing for another September
Starting point is 00:08:22 anyone who was there anyone who was there was this one guest, let's call him... Anywho, I think that's supposed to say. Oh, any who, any who, there was this one guest, let's call him the graying chimpanzee who insisted on playing music through his speaker around the pool. Oh, God. He would play, tapping his feet to the music with no care for any other guests. I'd say he was probably mid-50s and thought he was a life and soul of the hotel. My question is, do you think it would be acceptable to launch a speaker into the pool and tell
Starting point is 00:08:58 this great man he is a selfish who should know better of course I didn't do this but I dreamed about it every day how would you have dealt with the situation and do you think it's acceptable for adults to play music around the pool when no one else wants to hear it yours the annoyed anaconda
Starting point is 00:09:14 yeah I'm speak around the pool is a no no right that's a foe yeah I think it probably is I I'm slightly I have been known to take a speaker to the beach in the past but But in my defense... Beach is slightly different.
Starting point is 00:09:30 But in my defense, I really am careful with the volume. Because, you know, when you get a couple of loungers or whatever, or you put towels down? Yeah. And you're sort of away from other people. I would go so far as to, like, walk away from where we are just to see if it can still be... You know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:47 It's only like... We're just, but you're a very respectful guy. I try to be. So I would hate to think that our music is bleeding into... Also, put away, you're a DJ. So you have exemplary. music taste. I think around the pool loud
Starting point is 00:10:01 is a problem actually. I actually think... I don't think you can launch it into the pool. I think after a while you can. So how many days... No, I think that there's a note that goes over. First of all, delivered by a waiter. Get a few of you to sign it.
Starting point is 00:10:16 That's a bloody good idea. That's just pop into your head. Yeah. Really good. I think you go to other people as this... I would say it popped into head so quickly. It might be something that you've done before. No, no, I haven't done it.
Starting point is 00:10:25 But I think this is... I mean, I've mariner. made it with the thought since reading it. I think you send a note over. You get other people to, like a petition, saying, look, you know, and then when they read it, no one looks over, reading a book or doing whatever.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Hopefully at that point, the guy goes, no one likes this music. He probably slopes his shoulders, walks back to his room, as little thing to himself and goes down without his speaker, becomes a part of the holiday for everyone, and everyone gets on with him.
Starting point is 00:10:55 if he doesn't if he doesn't like do anything and keeps on playing the music I then think someone has to go over you draw sticks someone goes right who's going to do it tummy sticks yeah we go with tommy sticks yeah under the water
Starting point is 00:11:11 hold your breath on enough whoever the winner goes over and says look mate we sent you a note and as you've seen that we've been over the for us six hours we've had a very competitive game of Tommy sticks tournament I'm the winner I've got the biggest dick essentially and it's my duty to come over in
Starting point is 00:11:29 and tell you to turn the fucking music off Yeah If he still then plays it I think someone is with every right Then you can launch it into the ball Yeah But sometimes these these incredible new It could be waterproof
Starting point is 00:11:40 Yeah Yeah And then then Then you want to do it break it Or yeah then you've got to launch it somewhere else right Yeah Yeah Yeah I think this
Starting point is 00:11:50 That's what wasps would come and useful If you could train wasps to go and sting him Yeah I think I think that's a little of jam all over his speaker or honey or golden syrup. So then like something sweet with the wasps. I would say if you're pitching that as a real suggestion, I would say there's quite a few steps between you applying the honey and him waiting for wasps. Right, you play the guy.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Right. You're just sitting there listening to me. What are you listening to? I'm in Van Halden. Okay. Hey, mate Hey, hey, hey, hey, mate Turn off your music
Starting point is 00:12:28 You're never gonna guess what What's that? Two of the waiters are having a fight One of them got caught kissing The other one's wife They've literally going out and mate They're fighting outside You've got to see this
Starting point is 00:12:36 It's a really, really good fight Well, I'll probably just let him get on with it No, seriously, you have to see this No, I believe you but I'm just chilling Mate, you can't miss this Nothing's happened here for days I'm cool man, thank you there You know, mate, seriously
Starting point is 00:12:50 I think you really regret not seeing it I think I'll be fine okay hey mate it's me earlier after you remember the fight hey mate yeah
Starting point is 00:13:02 the fight went crazy but actually what's incredible is now the waiter and his wife having sex in a pool okay where
Starting point is 00:13:10 no the other pool the kid's pool the waiter and his the other guy's wife having sex in the kids pool okay cool do you want to come
Starting point is 00:13:19 with watch not really man I don't know if I've given any impression that I'm somebody that would like to watch something like that. But I'm not... It's just you're on your own.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Sure, but I'm not sitting here thinking I hope I catch a glimpse of somebody having sex in the kids' pool. And I'm sorry, I apologize if that's the manner which I've been conducting. I thought you were going to be a lot more creepy and weird
Starting point is 00:13:42 than you actually are. Why would you think I'd be creepy and weird? Some of the stuff that we've been saying over there about you, because you're on your own and you don't talk to anyone. You just listen to your music. Right. And it's, by the way, your music is really, really upsetting quite a lot of people.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Is it more upsetting than repeatedly bothering somebody to let them know there's a waiter fucking in the kids pool? Like, of the two of us, who do you think's been the most disruptive to the other one? Yeah, I know, but your music's disrupting loads of people. I'm only disrupting you. And if I'm honest with you, I didn't want to disrupt you, but I want a game of tummy sticks. So I had to come over here and talk to you. You want to go away? Basically, here was how it's going to go.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Sorry, sorry, mate. You won a game of what? Tummy sticks. Tummy sticks. How does that work? Me, I don't know if you've met Big Clive over there. We both had to get erections and have a sword fight with our dicks. You had a sword fight with your dicks.
Starting point is 00:14:34 How do you... I'm surprised he didn't come over and ask me to have a look at that. Well, no. How do you decide a winner? Whoever becomes unerrect. So... So whoever loses their erection first? Yeah, I maintain an erection on Big Clive.
Starting point is 00:14:50 And your prize was coming over here to talk to me. Well, yeah, the honour was mine. to tell you to turn the music down or we're going to put... But you didn't tell me to turn the music down. You said that there was a waiter having a fight with somebody else because he was shaking his missus or something?
Starting point is 00:15:03 The actual plan was to get you to go out to their kids' pool because a waiter's not actually having sex with someone. So the weight is not having sex with the kids' pool? No, it was a ruse. And basically when you go, we were going to get your speaker and cover it in jam. So wasps come all right.
Starting point is 00:15:20 You can spread jam on the speaker? Yeah, because you know what you said? that note to you that we all signed. Oh, was there, oh yes, I remember that now, yeah, the note, yeah. So what we're going to do is then cover your speaker and jam, so wasps come over. Right. And you get stung by some wasps and then you blame the speaker. You're hoping I was going to get stung by some wasps?
Starting point is 00:15:36 Yeah, yeah. And then I'd blame the speaker for getting me stung by a wasp. Yeah, that was kind of, because it had, what, secreted jam? We weren't really thinking it through at this point, we're just all quite upset about the music. So I just wanted to clear something out. Did you win a game of tummy sticks to spread jam onto my smart speaker? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:55 So then I'd have been the holiday hero because I was one who got to stop playing your music. Right. And everyone would sort of like me. And you're staying at this hotel, are you? I'm over there with my family. I'm over there with my wife because she's adults only. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:07 It's adults only that are able to integrate with the sort of the normal adult world. Yeah. It feels ridiculous now. I'm over here saying all this. Yeah. So, but are you right to turn your music down? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Are you right to stop playing tummy sticks in the swoon pool? Sorry. Because we're both causing an issue, aren't me? Yeah. Yeah. I've got my music up too, lad. You got your cock out in a pool. Well, you put it like that, mate.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Yeah. Yeah, it does. Yeah, it doesn't look good. All right, yeah. Fuck off. Would you like me to send you over a drink? No, I'm good, thank you. Bear in mind the way it hasn't had sex for his wife.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Well, he probably has. It's not enough kids pool here. Right. Okay. That's not affected whether I'm going to have a drink or not. See ya. Yeah, see you, mate. So, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Yeah, I think that. that hope that helps anyway we do think the guy is a bit inconsiderate but but I think I think there's a possibility I know it sounds unlikely it's a possibility that that guy thinks
Starting point is 00:17:09 he's doing a public service yeah I do that he thinks he's got great music taste and there's no atmosphere at the pool so let me just put some music on yeah I think sometimes you just have to talk to the people yeah yeah okay and if you get
Starting point is 00:17:21 he might get upset he might get his feelings hurt yeah but that's part of life that's life baby sometimes you've got to eat those gravers before you crunch them this is an advertisement from BetterHelp
Starting point is 00:17:36 Now we've been wanting to talk about this for a while now We're very happy to be sponsored by BetterHelp And genuinely of all the things that we've worked on This is the one that feels most relevant To the people that listen to this show Because if you're a regular listener You'll know that this stuff comes up a lot And the response we get when it does is always the same
Starting point is 00:17:52 People saying thank you for saying that out loud Which suggests that a lot of people Are sitting with things that they haven't said out loud allowed to anyone. And the gap between thinking about getting some support and actually doing something about it can feel enormous. And we get that. Life is busy. It never feels like the right moment and it's easy to keep putting things off until it feels more manageable. Except they don't get more manageable on their own. That's sort of the whole point. Better help exist to close that gap. And the numbers speak for themselves. An average live therapy session rating of 4.9 out of 5 based
Starting point is 00:18:24 and over 1.7 million client reviews. People are not giving that rating to something that isn't working. And the practical side of it matters too. Better help is built to fit around your life rather than the other way around. Different ways to connect, different types of professionals, depending on what you actually need. Marriage and family therapists, social workers, counsellors, you're not just getting whoever's available. Because it turns out just hoping everything sorts itself out is not medically speaking a recognised treatment plan. It really isn't.
Starting point is 00:18:53 We have checked thoroughly. Yeah, we have. If you've been thinking about therapy, BetterHelp can help you take the first step. Sign up and get 10% off at BetterHelp.com slash Wolfowl. That's BetterH-E-L-P.com slash Wolf-O-L-L-A. Hey, Wolf and Al. I have the unfortunate problem of having a rather large nose. My mates have always taken the piss out of me for it.
Starting point is 00:19:18 To be honest, I've always been completely fine with it. Oh, that's good. It's just normal lads banter and I can give as good as I get. The problem is that one of my mates has taken the joke so far and so often in front of other people the people outside of our friendship group now seem to think it's fair game too. For example, during a rugby game recently, my coat shouted across the pitch asking if I was alright
Starting point is 00:19:35 and more importantly, how's your nose? This is met with laughter from everyone on the pitch all at my expense. Normally I'm pretty good at laughing things off but it's got to the point where it's actually starting to bother me especially when it comes from people I don't know or people who aren't part of my usual circle. I haven't really got the same banter or comeback with strangers
Starting point is 00:19:51 so I end up just feeling a bit self-conscious and embarrassed. Have you got any advice on how I can deal with it or even just a way of changing my mindset so I don't feel so self-conscious about it, particularly when it happens in front of people I don't know. Love the pod from the insecure ibis. Is ibis an animal? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Oh, it's just a hotel trained. Named after an animal. Oh, okay. I've got a, this is going to blow your mind. Lion Bar. Yeah. Listen, I sort of, there's an element of this one. I kind of
Starting point is 00:20:22 I can relate to a little bit How can you relate to it? With the tool thing Oh I see I think I was There was And also when I Yeah I think growing up
Starting point is 00:20:32 I'd have that thing With a group of mates And then once it's sort The banter starts filtering out And it's people you don't know It can become It can become A little bit
Starting point is 00:20:44 Yeah I can see where you're coming from It can become a bit too much I think Your First Port of call is very difficult to do. You know, is to sort of have a chat with your friends and just say that I think this, certainly the person who's sort of done this the most. But I think it's very hard then to, you don't want to alienate one person and go, look,
Starting point is 00:21:06 you seem like you've taken this further than anyone else because then all of a sudden it becomes a, it's like you're aiming to target at them. But I think, have an actual chat with your mates and go, look, I think this is, it's gone too far. But it's a really hard thing. I think there's a masculine, like a matter of sort of masculinity here where I think we all take stuff on our shoulders when it comes to things like this and laugh it off or try and have banter back. But can actually that stigma and those jokes can, you can walk away from it and it can rest on you. And you can feel stupid for letting it be.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Oh, it's just banter and whatever. But you've taken it as a personal slight. And I think those things can chip away at you over time. And before you know it, you're in a situation, you know, where your self-esteem gets hit and you start worrying that, oh, you know, am I thinking too much about this or am I taking this too personally? And actually speaking to people and saying, look, you know, and it seems a really silly thing to turn around and go,
Starting point is 00:22:12 oh, you got all to take the make out of my nose, but do you know what, it fucking stung a bit the other week when so on. that happened and and I think the cold heart truth of it I think that when you're in a group of lads and a group of men and I don't think this ever really changes
Starting point is 00:22:29 I think people are very comfortable if the joke's on someone else and it's not on them and that's the real thing I think that people are vulnerable and people are worried about being a person under the microscope or being a person that everyone's getting a laugh from
Starting point is 00:22:45 so what they do is they hide within a group and they'll go and they don't think that's always a personal thing I think quite a lot of that comes from a vulnerability of just hoping it's not going to be them so actually turning around and I'd say you will know the people in your group of friends the people around you who there's people that are more sensitive or the people that who are actually listen to you and try then to go to them and go look this that fuck me off the other day and that pissed me off that that upset me and actually try to get that don't go to the pick don't don't don't don't turn the
Starting point is 00:23:17 to the people that you know or will will basically turn around and say well it's just fucking banter or oh he's going to become a right cry but he can't have it he can't handle it and then they'll make that a thing because what you have in a lot of these groups is you'll have a thing I think it's called
Starting point is 00:23:36 it's like a victim blaming it's a mirroring thing so even if they feel guilty for the thing that they've done instead of it sort of emitting guilt and this is a very male problem instead of turning around and going oh I do that I'm sorry, I did that, that was wrong, I shouldn't have done that. They'll turn around, they'll feel guilty, but instead of actually sitting with that guilt and feeling that guilt,
Starting point is 00:23:54 they'll flip it onto the person who's being vulnerable and turning around saying, you know, that's upset me, and that will be the reaction for a certain amount of people in your group. So it's just finding the people you'll actually talk to and speak to. And not taking yourself out of the situation and realizing that it might take some time, it's not going to happen people are you know we don't live in a movie we don't live in a fucking drama where you say something everyone goes oh actually we should it will take people
Starting point is 00:24:24 time to go actually that isn't acceptable behavior and a lot of that is age based a lot of that comes through the shows of time but I pick the people around you that have a sensitive adult way of seeing things and let them be the people that that help you hopefully sort of extinguish this kind of behavior really great eloquent beautiful I love the way you're sat the way you deliver that whole thing? Thank you. It's in there somewhere. No notes.
Starting point is 00:24:49 No notes. I actually think that I think that you just need to tell your friends that you don't like this anymore. Do you know what I mean? At the end of the day you've been obviously like when I was growing up and obviously with my eye, you sort of the self-defense mechanism is that you make jokes about it. I have to, you know, made jokes about it at gigs and made jokes about it on TV. And the problem is that everybody then thinks that it's fair game to joke about it.
Starting point is 00:25:21 And then it becomes very difficult for you to defend yourself because you've gone, it looks like you've been all right about it this whole time. But actually what you're doing is you're trying to get in there first or you're trying to laugh along because your other option is to go, this is a bit out of order. So I think you actually, it's just a thing of like your friends, if your friends should understand that you don't want to spend all of your social occasions, sitting there worried about when it's going to come up, when one of them's going to decide to make this joke, because then there's a situation where you're just, part of your
Starting point is 00:25:53 brain is focused on that the whole time you're out and about, or with your friends at all, and you don't want that, and your friends don't want that for you. So it's one of these things of, you know, I often think when you have to have an uncomfortable conversation with your friends and it might feel slightly uncomfortable, you've got two things could happen, either you don't ever say anything and you live the rest of your life like this in getting increasingly self-conscious, where you have one unpleasant conversation or a difficult conversation
Starting point is 00:26:19 and their behaviour changes. And this is often the case with things like this, is if people think that it's open season on a certain thing, then they will talk like that. The way that people conduct themselves is often led by the group, or typically with blokes, it's led by one alpha in the group,
Starting point is 00:26:36 the perceived alpha or whatever. And so I think it's probably a thing where you've got to say to your friends, I don't really, you know, I don't mind a couple of jokes, but this is sort of taking it too far and having the chat with them. And then if other people see that your friends, your close friends aren't making those sort of jokes, then the model that they're setting up there is that you don't say those sort of things. And it's like Tom said, people love, they see it as an easy way to get in. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:27:05 They think, oh, they're all making a joke about that. I'm going to make a joke. They're all going to laugh and it's going to make it look good. Your friends should not be giving people those opportunities. So I think it's having a difficult conversation with them, but then you're on the other side of it and things become a lot easier, hopefully. And I will say as well, just to add to that, because that's amazing advice, is that when we're young, and I don't know if you agree with this, when you're young and you're in a place where you're in this big groups, you have this thing that you don't want to fall out of anyone, you think all your mates are going to be your mates forever. And if you bring something out of this up and how you actually feel when no one goes along with that, they're probably not worth hanging on to anyway. And that I understand because I carried too many fucking wrong-ons around in my life for too long.
Starting point is 00:27:47 And I look back now and think what they did and what they sucked away from me as a human being and actually think, I wish I'd just lost them at fucking 17 when I knew that they were a prick. But I just held on because I didn't want to be like, you know, and I got too long in the tooth and too wrapped around the wrong sort of people. So have those hard conversations. But if people can't understand the maturity in which you're taking it, they're probably not worth knowing anyway. Thank you so much, Ibis.
Starting point is 00:28:14 Good luck for the future. Hello, Wolf, Ow, and Coyote. Oh, God. Hullensian Hermit here. Is that right? Yeah. Literally just finished. It's literally the first time I've seen that, man.
Starting point is 00:28:29 When I heard Rom saying he needs a push on tickets in Hull. My hometown, I haven't got tickets yet, as I didn't know you were coming here, because I don't have social media of any kind. Just before you carry on. Thank you for that. My PR will be getting sacked. Continue? After I took your advice to put a phone into the grey scale to help spend this time on it a few years back. I eventually got to the point where two years ago I didn't need it anymore and have no phoma at all from not having it.
Starting point is 00:28:57 So it all got deleted. Thank you. Well done you. Fucking hell. Credit to society. However, because of this, I do rely on friends and family to tell me when there are up and coming shows and events that I might be interested in. And yet somehow this one has slipped the net. I'll be buying tickets at the end of the month and I'll see you there. See you there. My question is, what are some good alternatives to stay up to date with what's going on in terms of shows and events without turning you back to social media, whether your algorithm knows what I'm interested in and make sure I know what's coming. Thanks so much. Love the podcast and generally get so excited to listen to it every week. The Hallenshund Hermit.
Starting point is 00:29:36 What a great name? Really good name. Tom, any advice? I mean, I'm a social media. I mean, you're never off social media. Yeah, I'm an absolute whore for it. Yeah, absolutely slut for it, aren't you? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:46 My algorithm is fucking, yeah. Shout out Tommy Robinson. Big shout out Tommy. No, I, I don't know. No, but saying that, I think there's things within the group of people I've got who will mention something's happening or, like, there's this happening, there's that, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:09 Luke Coombs when I went to watch it, Combs, by the way. Got that wrong, I've been saying it wrong, wrong the whole time. Luke Combs. It's Combs? Coombs. Okay. And you're saying Coombs? Yeah. So, yeah, it's quite a few different things that, I suppose, around the gaggle of parents at the school gates or whatever you hear about things
Starting point is 00:30:26 happening locally. I think it's just chatting to people, isn't it? Actually, you know what? I find that's one of the best things on holiday. Chance people, what they're going, what they're doing. Yeah. So, yeah, go on holiday and try and chat some people, and hopefully they can keep your days. I think it's being more chatty about... You've probably got posters up and around how I'd imagine. I do have...
Starting point is 00:30:47 By the way, can I say the one show of his that hasn't... He sold out the O2 to nearly three nights in a row now. Two nights. Two nights sold out. This guy's... You're now, by the way, and I'm very proud of you. You're an incredible arena act. Like, you've sold out the...
Starting point is 00:31:03 I looked at your tickets here over there. Your poster came up on social media. I was like, the sold-outs are so fucking depressing for the rest of us. I was like, this guy's... Well, they shouldn't be depressing. if it's a friend that it's happening to. No, no, no, I'm happy for you. But I'm like, fucking on, this guy's nailing it.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Hard and nice. That's what happens. If you put the tour on sale 10 years before the tour starts, you can sell those tickets. But the whole, but the whole is... Hull, I think, yeah, I bet it's selling nice now. Who knows? But what should we be doing more to let or let?
Starting point is 00:31:36 Because there is weirdly, actually, there's a lot of times where I will play somewhere and then put up that I've been there, I'm giving a guy I didn't know I didn't know you were there Well if you've not got social media I would I would like put a list together
Starting point is 00:31:50 All the people that you're interested in seeing And then sign up to their mailing lists Like go to their website, sign up to their mailing list And also A lot of like music streaming If it's music gigs Or for anybody It'll if you follow certain artists
Starting point is 00:32:05 It will pull out Who's playing in your area Oh really? Soon and then it will notify for you. So like I've got notified by music gigs through that quite a lot. So I think it's, because you're not on social media and those things aren't being delivered to you
Starting point is 00:32:19 passively, I think you just have to be a bit more front-footed about it and kind of look for the sort of things you're into. And then like often on like ticket sale websites, you can put in what your interests are and then it will let you know. Like you go, I'm into, I don't know, I'm into hip-hop or whatever. And then it'll start sending you when things are near you.
Starting point is 00:32:37 So I think you just have to be a bit more front-footed about it in a way that social media just sort of let it come to you. Usually you could meet this going on hold, by the way. I could do if I had any inclination to do that, but but it's just I don't think that's
Starting point is 00:32:53 I'm happy to meet you, but I don't want to, I mean what Tom's suggesting is we make, we like properly meet up. Yeah, yeah, I don't think either of us would enjoy that. I don't know, he's not on social media, you don't do a lot of it now. Yeah? You've really pulled back. Do you think so? Is it upsetting you? No, I used to, there was a
Starting point is 00:33:11 certain element me that I used to get a kick out of putting out certain things of my stories. No, I do still look. Yeah, no, but you'd comment.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Oh, I see, right. Yeah, it's like being seen. Oh. I mean, I'm currently
Starting point is 00:33:26 deleting Instagram for days at a time and then download it again I feel like that. I'm not, do you know what? I don't, genuinely,
Starting point is 00:33:34 I don't use it at half of it. I don't look it as much I used to. Sure. If I had the inclination to put so on up, I don't spend
Starting point is 00:33:39 ages on it. No. I've actually fallen into a bad habit. I've got a little bit too into X and West, comment on how bad West Am are. That's become quite addictive at a moment. Yeah, yeah, get that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:51 Yeah, I've noticed on social media, on videos, I've noticed this on my videos, and I'm assuming it's happened to other videos, but I don't know, because I don't know what the origins of that are. But where people basically imprint in their comment what they think is happening in that video.
Starting point is 00:34:09 And what I mean by that is, they'll go, these two clearly don't get on, right? Or, you know, like, not about us, but like, they'll watch a video and they'll go, I like the way, I don't know, I like the way Ramesh got shut down there, for example. And that isn't what happened in the video, but people watch it, and then they have their own interpretation of what they think happened. Or his mum was clearly pissed off with him in that or whatever. So they'll just, like, imagine what they're, they'll extrapolate what they think is going on.
Starting point is 00:34:37 my desire to correct them is so strong but I don't I don't ever because it's sort of thing you just have to accept that some people are going to take it
Starting point is 00:34:47 because you can't go around mopping up everybody's kind of fucking different interpretations of what's happening that thing yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:34:54 I do comment oh you thought I was having to dig at you didn't you no no but I comment I get pissed off I know you do I know you do occasionally
Starting point is 00:35:01 but that's not a bad thing but what I mean is then you sort of I don't want another thing to take up my time You know what? I don't actually, if it's a real proper person, I'm like, cool, okay, you're your own type of opinion. I think all gloves are off. If you're a fucking idiot who's on any social media, you've got a picture of a caravan or a fucking cat or something like that. I live in a world where you're fee game and everyone should just go in on you.
Starting point is 00:35:25 Because I just think we live in a world now where you think you have carte blanche to say and do your name. None of the rules of society applicable to you. So you can go and say whatever you want. you almost treat social media like the Wild West you can bowl around just fucking from town to town like a lone gun person shooting down wherever you want. Really pushing it with this analogy.
Starting point is 00:35:44 Yeah, but my point is I think that you're a lower level of fucking human being if you can't go, oh no, this is me. So someone puts up something and I go, okay, that's Claire or John or whatever and go, that's it. You're Dan or, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Stephen? Yeah. Or Vern. Yeah. I look it and go, well, that's their opinion. But I just think, If you're playing by this whole game of like, I'm into caravans,
Starting point is 00:36:09 you know, I'm going to caravage my favorite thing. And I want my profile pictures. I'm like, you sad fuck. Well, you just, I don't think you're playing by the rules. Yeah, I, um, I,
Starting point is 00:36:19 we had a video from the Romishang and Nathan show the other day. And obviously, like, you know, I'm regularly getting this. Yeah. Color on one fingernail. Somebody said that one finger, so the original comment was,
Starting point is 00:36:29 I was laughing at this clip until I saw the fingernail. Yeah. And we know what that means, right? And somebody said, what does it mean? And he said it's a signal for to notify other people that are of the same persuasion that you're a paedophile. So he said, I have basically, this is like a universal sign for being a paedophile, right?
Starting point is 00:36:57 It's like a secret thing. And then so people have gone, that sounds like obviously it sounds insane. They've got it sounds insane. The problem is if you're like a conspiracy theorist or whatever, there's nothing that can dissuade you of that thing. So he's gone, I can't believe you don't know that. And they go,
Starting point is 00:37:13 do you not think it would be mad for a paedophile to identify themselves with like a fingernail convention? And he's gone, yeah, well, they've got you too, I guess, or whatever. And this guy's like, he's not stopped. He still, that video went up weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:37:27 He still keeps going. Romish is part, basically, he's insinuating that I'm part of a paedophile ring. So I got in touch with, like the guys at Kerb and the social team. And I said, I know that people are allowed to say
Starting point is 00:37:39 they don't like you, but this guy's insinuating publicly that I'm a nonce. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is there some sort of, and they said, I don't know, I don't know what the rules are
Starting point is 00:37:49 about that sort of thing. The guys, I mean, I'm allowed to, can I take legal action? The guy's saying I'm a fucking pedophile. You should be able to sue him. But has he got a profile that's him? He looks like it.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Then you should see the fuck out of that guy. I mean, yeah. I mean, I don't, I've not looked at his profile, but Harry, stop fucking saying I'm a nonce. Thank you, much for listening and watching the Wolfenau podcast email special
Starting point is 00:38:14 Wolfelaupod at gmail.com please could you send in any questions, queries or stories? Tom's after some stories aren't you? Yeah, I think it's funny stories.
