Woman Evolve with Sarah Jakes Roberts - A Breath of Fresh Air

Episode Date: January 7, 2026

Listennnn… welcome to 2026, sis. We are starting this year a little different, on purpose. No performing, no pretending, no "I'm fine" faith. Just real. In this episode, Sarah opens up about what it... actually means to go rogue. Not rebellion for attention, but breaking up with the patterns, the fears, and the "truths" you picked up in the air that are keeping you stuck. We're talking identity, confidence, and the sneaky way old labels try to follow you into a new season. If you've ever been quicker to believe the negative than receive the good, if one comment can disconnect you from feeling loved by God, or if you can tell your heart has gotten a little guarded… pull up. We're getting in Ezekiel 36:26 and asking God for the kind of renewal that doesn't just sound good, but changes you from the inside out. By the end, you'll be ready to write your own Go Rogue statement, challenge what fear has been "authorized" to say over you, and start breathing fresh again.

Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to 2026. I am so grateful to be starting this year with you. And if you are listening to this on audio, then you may not see that we are going rogue in every sense of the word this year. Now, fret, not my pet. I am going to explain what it means to go rogue, but I'm also hoping to show in physical representation a little bit. bit of what it means to go rogue because I got my natural hair out and not a drop, not a concealer, not a drop of makeup on. I am going rogue. Usually my hair is braided down and underneath the wig, but I just felt like there was something to be said about questioning the areas of my life, not just spiritually, emotionally, and mentally, but even in my physical appearance, where I have an opportunity to go rogue, to break out of my rules, to break out of my fear, and insecurities and to accept radical acceptance and love and to own it. And so I am looking forward to this year of us going rogue, doing the radical, having confidence,
Starting point is 00:01:17 fighting the good fight of faith, but also dissecting what stands in the way of us doing that. Before we kick off this year with some amazing conversations with individuals whom I think you will enjoy getting to know or getting to know better because you may already be aware of them. I really wanted to set a foundation for what it means to go rogue. If this is your first time listening to the podcast, then you may not know. I've kind of been debating with the audience for the last couple of months about whether or not go rogue should be our theme. Part of the reason why is because when you do a quick little Google search,
Starting point is 00:01:54 words like rebellion, breaking the rules, breaking authority come up, and We definitely don't want to do anything that encourages negative behavior, but I couldn't shake it. I couldn't shake this reality that there are many norms that we have accepted, that there are many philosophies and practices that we have accepted, that the only way that we can fully step into what God has for us is if we are willing to go rogue from those patterns, those systems, those philosophies. And so this is our year to examine what we have accepted as a norm and to rebel against it, to take back the authority that God has given us from our fear, our nerves, our anxiety. I am recording this a little bit before the new year, as you can imagine, it takes a little bit of time to get things edited and turned around. And I feel like spiritually, I feel like the Lord is taking me through my own process.
Starting point is 00:02:55 of examining things that I just accepted. And I wanted to have a Bible study with you all. So you're going to hear some clicking and some clackering and some pages and some clicking. And that's because I'm literally going to do the study right here with you. I've got some notes, of course. But I want to start by telling you a personal story about what this means for me to go rogue. And what I believe the Lord is doing in my heart right now as it relates to highlighting things that I have accepted, that God wants to see me transform.
Starting point is 00:03:27 And sometimes we can recognize areas that God wants to see us transform, but to be comfortable taking our time to experience that transformation. It's one thing for God to highlight something. It's another thing for us to change it. But it's an even deeper desire when we deem it as unacceptable. This isn't just something that God wants to change in your life. When God highlights an area of deficiency, when God highlights an area of immaturity,
Starting point is 00:03:56 it's not just something that he wants to, he's willing to gradually change it, but it's not something that he wants you to treat as casual. It's something that God brings up because this is standing in the way of you being transformed into the image of God. This is standing in the way of you stepping into what God has brought you in the earth to do.
Starting point is 00:04:15 And the more that we treat as casual, something that God wants to radically transform, the less power, the less intensity we bring into that transformation. And so the Lord highlighted something for me. And in, you know, the spirit of transparency and vulnerability, I'm going to share it with you. So many of you know my story beyond the teen pregnancy, but just growing up in church and not really feeling like I felt like I fit in. And because I didn't fit in, you know, when you grow up in church, like everyone's cracking jokes, things are funny. They'd be like, Sarah's got a demon or
Starting point is 00:04:51 Sarah don't know the Lord for real. And so they said a lot of things to me that I never refuted. I was too young. I just accepted it. I never questioned it as much as I just kind of assumed that what they said was my truth. I assumed that what they saw was the only thing about me that there was to see. And though I got older and, you know, like I had my teen pregnancy, but I want to through a lot of other things and not just like, you know, things that happen. But even let's take the team pregnancy, like just, you know, having sex, having sex outside of marriage, getting pregnant. Like, this is another thing. Like, there's something wrong with you. There's something. You don't get it the way other people get it. And then when I was continuing to just wild out, wild out and be
Starting point is 00:05:43 rebellious, like, I took money out my mom's purse or I would like ditch a family outing to go do something with my friends. And I think there was a part of me that just kind of felt like if there's something wrong with me, I might as well do wrong. If there's something wrong with me, I might as well be wrong. And little by little, I really felt like my heart got bad. Like I felt like maybe I just have a bad heart. Maybe there's something wrong with me. And though I began to really develop my own relationship with the Lord and maybe one day I'll kind of go into what that experience was like for me, I never really, confronted this mentality of you have a bad heart, there's something wrong with your heart, you make bad choices, there's something wrong with you. I accepted the grace of God,
Starting point is 00:06:30 but I don't know that I experienced the full transformation of God in that area. I knew that I wanted to change my ways. I knew that I wanted to be a reflection of God in the earth, but there was this little bit of distance between like, am I doing enough? Has it changed anything? Maybe there's a part of me that was irrevocably broken and it can never be fixed. And so I feel like that has been highlighted for me and I'm trying to figure out what exactly it was. I think there was something that took place. Oh yeah, it was something that took place in my marriage. And my husband said something to me and what he said and what I heard were two different things. And what he said fed into this idea of like, see, it's like I hear the enemy's voice telling me see, something wrong with you.
Starting point is 00:07:20 See, you just, you can't, you're never going to get it right. See, he's never going to see you the way that, the way that he says he sees you isn't really the way that he sees you. And I think even in me, I am more willing to accept negative feedback about myself as truth than I am positive feedback. And I feel like all of that is a part of that same tapestry or tapestry of me feeling like there's something wrong with me. And so I find myself attracted to comments and statements that confirm that even though they heard and I find myself resistant to things that speak against it and that's ultimately being resistant to the Lord and how the Lord wants to see my heart transformed. And if you cannot accept fully what God believes about you, you can't really accept yourself. Like, I want to say this real good. If you can't find a way, no, this is better. If you can't find a way to figure out what is blocking you from fully accepting what God says about you, then you're never going to experience the full freedom, the full confidence, the full joy, the full courage that is connected to your identity in God. I can accept it, but sometimes,
Starting point is 00:08:43 this is probably a terrible analogy, and I should have thought this out, but I'm just talking to you and I'm flowing, right? There's something to be said about like a subscription for, let's say, Netflix. And like, if you have that subscription to Netflix, like, it's working for the month. Maybe you pay annually because you a baller, but, you know, like it's working for the month. But the moment you stop paying, that access is denied. For me, as it relates to experiencing God's love for me, as long as I'm doing all of the right things, I can experience it. But there's, that one statement, that one thing that automatically disconnects me from it. And so I have been feeling like I need to really lean in to God specifically as it relates to me experiencing freedom and
Starting point is 00:09:30 deliverance in this specific area so that I can have that constant acceptance that allows my mind to be renewed on a cellular level, right? And I have experienced the renewal of God and so like embracing my story, loving who I am. accepting the call that's on my life, stepping into it with a joy. I believe I'm a good mother. I didn't think that I could be a good mother. But this idea of like any time you do something wrong, it is automatically confirmation that there was always something wrong with you.
Starting point is 00:10:06 I need healing from that. I need deliverance from that. I need to be able to separate the two. So that's what I am going rogue from. I want to go rogue from this philosophy that my, I want to say this properly. I want to go rogue. And maybe I want you to create your go rogue statement, right? Oh, I feel God on that.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Even as I'm speaking from my own heart about what God's bringing me to a place of deliver and sin, I want to go rogue from the idea that a misstep or a mistake is a reflection of my full identity. I want to go rogue from the words that were spoken over me that made me believe that there was something wrong with my heart, that I would never fully know who God is or be able to do anything in the earth for God. And I see the way that God has worked in me and through me. And I want to accept that as the norm and not a one-off. I'm years into this and I think I'm still waiting for like God to change his mind about me because I have experienced people changing their mind about me. But that's something that I want to see broken, that I will lean into the arms of our loving
Starting point is 00:11:23 father with so much intentionality and so much expectation that God's going to be there, that it doesn't feel like something that I can't fully trust. Because when you feel like someone's going to change your mind about you, you don't give all of yourself. No matter what you say, you give as much as you are willing to, lose if they walk away. But when you really believe that someone's not going to give up on you, that they will be there no matter what you bring all of yourself, the good, the bad, the ugly, not just the performative perfection into that relationship. And God has been so faithful,
Starting point is 00:11:59 scary faithful, like scary good, scary, compassionate. And I want to give all of myself to God in a deeper level. You may be listening to this and one of your goals this year is to go deeper in the Lord, to grow your relationship with God. And I highly suggest many ways of doing that. But the first thing is identifying an area of your life that you know is in a reflection of God's will, God's heart, God's thoughts towards you. Even if you don't know how to change them, I want you to pinpoint that area. And when you pinpoint that area, I want you to begin consuming the Word of God with that area. and mind, worshipping with that area and mind, praying with that area of mind, not for things, but for heart renewal. There's a scripture in Ezekiel where God is talking about the children
Starting point is 00:12:54 of Israel and how he will take the heart of stone that they have and turn it into a heart of flesh that really minister to me, even as I am undoing some of the narratives that I have accepted, primarily because there are some areas in my life where I know my heart got hard, where I said, hey, I'm always going to be this way, so I might as well accept it. You will know that you have a piece of your heart that is a heart of stone when you have accepted something that you know God wants to change. But in Ezekiel, the Lord talks about giving a heart of flesh where there was a heart of stone. That's not the text that I was preparing to use for you all, but in the spirit of us,
Starting point is 00:13:32 clicking and clacking, let's bring it up. mind you, and this is why, like, it's just hard to, it's like, when you read the Bible, one of the most amazing things to me, now mind you, written by different authors, written in different eras, the expression of who God is never changes no matter who's telling the story. Why then would I think that the expression of God would change when it comes to my turn to tell the story. I want to tell the story of the ancient people who came before me, who knew him as faithful. I want to tell the story of my grandmother who knew he was faithful, of my ancestors who knew he was faithful. Ezekiel 36 and 26 says, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.
Starting point is 00:14:19 I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. That's like that I want to dig into that whenever I see things, one, I love words. I love the way they come together, but then I always want to see what it looks like in the Hebrew. So let's do that. This is Ezekiel 3626. I'm reading out of the new King James Version, whichever version you have, I'm sure there's probably beautiful translations, but when we look at the original transcript, so that word from the root of 1129 through the meaning to build, so the heart of stone or the heart that was built, right? So when we think about stone, think about masonry and how stone is carved out of a rock, right?
Starting point is 00:15:09 So this isn't just a stone like a stone that was picked up off of the ground, but this is a stone that was carved and cut and created into something. So I will take the heart that was built in you, right? And let's see what flesh means. And that word flesh is freshness. And I will give you a fresh heart. It's body, a person, nakedness. Oh, I love that. Not that I love being naked.
Starting point is 00:15:37 But I will give the heart that was built and carved out of your being out of your flesh, out of your body. And I will give you a heart of flesh. That's so good to me. I wish I could. Sometimes my biggest part, my biggest struggle in communication is like feeling like I don't have the words to express what's happening in my heart when I'm reading. but what I see, what I visualize in this text is like you're made of flesh. You're this person with blood and skin and tissue and muscle and all of a sudden something happened to you and where there should have been a heart of flesh, there's now a heart
Starting point is 00:16:13 of stone and the Lord says, I want to take that heart out of you, out of your flesh, because it doesn't belong there. The heart that you're walking around with isn't the heart that I put inside of you. When I made you out of flesh, when I breathed the breath of life inside of you, you were supposed to be walking around with a certain type of heart and that heart was pure, it was naked, it wasn't contaminated by any means it was fresh and it was flesh. And I want to give you back the heart that I designated for you to have, not the one that has been built by your experiences.
Starting point is 00:16:45 And so even now, God, if this is resonating with someone and they realize that their heart has gotten hard, that they have a heart of stone, maybe their journey is different from mind. Maybe it's not something that was spoken over them. Maybe it's something they've done repeatedly. Maybe it's something that has shaped them in ways that they can't even articulate God. But in your words, you promise to your people that you would not judge them for that heart of stone, that you would not judge them for the way that life changed them, for the way that life challenged them, but that you have a gift for them in the area where life changed them, that you want to give them a heart of flesh. God, first of all, we say thank you. Thank you so much for looking beyond how we became,
Starting point is 00:17:30 the way that we became, and giving us solutions that require us to partner with you. And so, God, we surrender right now the areas of our life where there is a heart of stone. And we ask God that you would help us to recognize the ways that you are trying to give us a heart of flesh, that you would give us the strength to partner with you in making this exchange. Thank you for your faithfulness in Jesus' name. I just pray that over you. You may be thinking to yourself, okay, this is a good promise. It helps me to understand the character of God, that God is willing to make an exchange with me. But what does that look like in practice? One, that should change your faith. It should change your expectation. Allow this word to change your faith that God will
Starting point is 00:18:14 give you a heart of flesh. He'll give you the heart that he desired for you to have in the place where you have a heart of stone, right? And then if I were you, you, you, and everyone processes things differently, but this is just one tip for you. I would begin to examine the areas of my life where a heart of stone dictates the way I show up. No, I don't want to tell the truth or forget that person. I'm not going to forgive or I'm not going to say thank you
Starting point is 00:18:42 because they're going to switch up. Like I had, I'm going to give you an example of me changing my heart of stone. So there is a person in my life who, whenever anything, How can I say this without putting a person out there fully? There's a person in my life who I know receives confidence. I'm trying to tread lightly saints. I should have just been like hypothetical. I should have hypothetically, but now I'm out hearing you in my business.
Starting point is 00:19:17 But there's a person in my life who I know feels a great sense of accomplishment for being connected to me. and by me, I don't mean like who I am at my core. I mean whoever people think I am because of like my followers and the things that God has allowed me to experience. And I know that sometimes they use that and leverage it for their own areas of insecurity, to be honest. And so sometimes they will send me things.
Starting point is 00:19:48 And I know that though it's like, it's literally them being edified because of and being connected to me. And usually I just let it get under my skin. Oh, God gave me a revelation about stuff getting under my skin. Um, help, pause, let me, hopefully I'll remember to tell you all that. But usually I just let it slide and kind of roll my eyes and like it. But today I acknowledge that I was grateful for the support that they showed me,
Starting point is 00:20:17 no matter why they're showing the support. I really feel like if I could make it make sense, it would, it would be better. but the point is that there's a part of me that kind of rolls my eyes whenever they send something, right? There's a little stone in there because I know it's not for me. It's actually for them. And so I'm annoyed a little bit by their insecurity or by my perception of their, you know, being self-centered as it relates to something that someone has said. And instead, I really challenged myself to say, you know what? No matter how God sends support or who God is sending support through, you need to be thankful. for it and not be so critical and not be so judgmental because, you know, that sure you may be able to identify areas where they need to grow, but there's some areas where you need to grow as well. And just encourage them. Maybe they wouldn't be so thirsty for affirmation from other people if you were more willing to be affirming. And so that's just one area. So where I see God changing
Starting point is 00:21:17 my heart, where there was a stone. And so look for areas of action that rebrand. That, bail against what that heart of stone has tried to make you believe. So I hope that's helpful for you. I'm going to tell you about the thing God told me about things getting in my skin. And then I'm going to get into this devotion that I think will help you. And if you're driving or ride around not in a place, like I'm going to quote a few scriptures and you can choose how you want to engage with those. I highly suggest that if you have a moment that you kind of refer back, it for yourself, pray and see what God reveals to you. But I had this thing about like there's only, it's just a few little bars that the Lord gave me when I let something get under my skin the other day.
Starting point is 00:22:04 And I felt like the Holy Spirit really told me you can only let things get under your skin, but so many times before it begins to change who you are on the inside. When you let things get under your skin, but you don't do anything to extract them. Like a pimple is when impurities in your skin come to the surface. When something gets under your skin, your skin, if you keep the impurities inside, it's going to ultimately change who you are. So when we say something's getting under our skin, what we're saying is like, oh, it got my spirit, it got my heart, got my head, got my mind. If you don't do something with what got under your skin, it's going to change who you are. And so that kind of all ties together.
Starting point is 00:22:42 Okay, so we're going rogue. Let us set a foundation for what it means to go rogue. I want to start with how much, oh my, I've been talking for 23 minutes. That's nasty. work. Okay, so let's start with the air that we breathe. I want to call this a breath of fresh air. Okay. So for week one of going rogue, we're going to talk about needing a breath of fresh air. You are breathing air right now. And, you know, unless you're like checking the pollution on your app, an app that tells you about the pollution, or you just can tell the difference. Most of the time when air changes, we don't realize it. My husband and I went to Jacksonville, Wyoming for our anniversary, and I got altitude sickness because the air changed so quickly, but I didn't realize it.
Starting point is 00:23:37 It's not like I got off the plane and it was like the air feels different here. I just was breathing the air that was available to me, and I didn't realize that breathing the air that was available to me was actually making me sick. I want you to understand that we're all breathing in air, not just physically but spiritually. So I have my Bible. I could click, but I really like flipping through my Bible. I have a New King James Version Bible. A lot of times people ask me, what Bible would I suggest for people who are learning? Listen, there are lots of amazing study Bibles. I have this New King James Version Bible, not because I necessarily like the translation or felt like it's the better. I won this in the 96 Spelling Bee. I thought I don't, I didn't
Starting point is 00:24:22 cherish my Bible. Didn't care nothing about it. That sounds real ignorant, but it's true. You know, I didn't care nothing about my Bible. And then I just happened to be going, and I won this Bible. We were living at a house in Dallas. My parents moved to Fort Worth. If you're from the DFW area, you know, first of all that's like moving out of town. But when I was 15, my parents moved into a house in Fort Worth. And when I was going through my, I was 15 when that happened. I was going through a divorce. I was 21, 22, moved back home with my kids, was going through some boxes. and I found this Bible that I won in 96 and it just felt like God was like, you come here, holl at me.
Starting point is 00:24:56 So, okay, let's turn to Ephesians chapter 2, verse 1. And it says, and you, you tell me about now, okay, let me contextualize this for you. It helps me when I understand, like, what was the original intention of this manuscript? Things to consider when reading these letters from Paul. is it annoying? I try to break everything down because I never know where anyone is on their faith journey. So Paul was a part of a religious group called the Pharisees. And a part of him being a part of the Pharisees is that they were very, very strict Jews. And Jews were waiting for the Messiah. And some Jews believed that Jesus was the Messiah, but others did not. Paul was a part of the group that did not believe that he was the Messiah. The Messiah was the anointed one that would come and rescue and save Israel.
Starting point is 00:25:56 So dissuaded was Paul that he was the anointed one that he would literally kill anyone who was a follower of the way. Before they were called Christians, they were called followers of the way. He has this encounter on the road to literally kill more followers of the way where Jesus reveals himself. him. And when Jesus reveals himself to him, he's radically changed, transformed. It's a beautiful story. You can read it in Acts. But then he goes, he begins to travel and evangelize and to create, he converts Gentiles into followers of the way. And then in order to check on them, he would send
Starting point is 00:26:34 them these letters. These are the letters that we're reading when we read Romans, Corinthians, Ephesians, Philippians. These are the letters that we're reading. There's more letters, but I just listed a few. These are the letters that we're reading. And so in Ephesians, he's writing to a church in Ephesus. And by church, I don't mean like a building. I mean a group of people who believe in Jesus and are trying to figure out, how do I walk this thing out with Jesus? Like, how does it start? What do I need to do? Who was I? Who am I now? What do I need to be reaching for? So when you read those letters, it's very similar to many of us who are trying to understand who do I need to be, how do I need to show up. In these letters, they're very distinct, right?
Starting point is 00:27:17 So some of them are revelations that God has given him that he's sharing. So, you know, he's like an evangelist at the time who's had an encounter with the Lord, and he's sharing those things with others. And other things are really specific to the culture and the context of that particular church, that particular region. And as you go deeper in your study, there will be opportunity for you to dissect those. Sometimes Paul says, like in one of his letters, he goes, I permit not for women to preach.
Starting point is 00:27:45 That was his. He didn't say the Holy Spirit. The Lord told me that was something that his belief was, he doesn't say to preach it was about speaking. But, okay, so Ephesians 2, he's writing to the church in Ephesus. He's trying to make sure that they're like staying close and connected. They've had an encounter with God. And just like many of us, you can begin to lose your way once you've had that encounter
Starting point is 00:28:09 with God. And he's trying to make sure that they stay strong in the faith and that they create room for their spirit to really lead them and guide them. These letters would have been spoken out orally. So the way they're organized in our Bible is something that came later in the establishing of the Bible. But I want you to imagine that these are letters that are being read in a room full of people passed throughout the city read in a room full of people. And so they're almost like the manuscripts of his sermons, but they were letters that he wrote. And it says, in you, he made a live that's Jesus. Jesus made you alive who were dead and trespasses and sins. So you didn't even realize it,
Starting point is 00:28:50 but your spirit was dead. Your soul was dead. You had a heart of stone and you didn't even realize it. When we have an encounter with Jesus, that's what we should be awakened to. It's like, you didn't just save me so that I can go to heaven. You saved me from this heart of stone. You saved me from continuing to live out a life that wouldn't have been pleasing and acceptable to you. And so, God, I thank you. you so much that you brought me back to life. You have already experienced the resurrecting power of Jesus. If you have been convicted about an area of your life that was once dead to sin, that was once dead to trespassing trespasses, you have already experienced the resurrection power of God because he's brought you back to life where you're no longer comfortable with that.
Starting point is 00:29:35 I receive that even for myself, that area that the Lord has been highlighting that needs to change. it's like getting a pulse again. It's like an area that was dead and buried inside of you. And it's like they used the defibrillator. And now it's coming back to life. That's an area that God wants to bring back to life. Okay. And it says, in which you once walked according to the course of this world,
Starting point is 00:29:56 I was dead and I didn't even know it. I was just going along with what was happening in this world. And then it says, listen, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience. wait a minute in order for paul to help them understand how they were showing up in the world he said you are walking according to the course of this world according to the prince of the power of the air there was something in the air and you didn't even realize it when we talk about going rogue what i am saying is that there's a course of this world there's a prince of the power of the air and the lord wants to give you a
Starting point is 00:30:40 fresh breath. I want to give you a breath of fresh air. I want to give you something different to breathe in, but you have to realize in order to breathe in something different, you got to resist and rebel against an air that everyone else has accepted. That spirit, that same spirit, the prince of the power of the air, now works. It's the same spirit that works in the sons of disobedience. And so I want you to understand that as we talk about going rogue, specifically for those of us who the Lord has allowed to see 2026, what I want you to understand is that every age has an air. Oh, thank you, Jesus. So every era has an air, right? So when we think about the different generational, you know, the boomers, the silent generation, the Xers, the millennials, Zs, right? Every
Starting point is 00:31:32 generation has an air. But also, every age and stage of your life has had an age. And air to it. So some of us are having our air purified from air that we breathed in a long time ago. You know why there was such strict regulation that came about. I think it was in the 90s, maybe it was the early 2000s, about secondhand smoke. It wasn't necessarily something that you had to ingest in order for it to damage you. Sometimes it was just being in the vicinity and then the impact of it didn't show up until later. That's why they said, okay, we're not going to have smoking or non-smoking zones. We're going to do non-smoking only because the residue of that air sometimes didn't show up until later. There have been stages of your life. Maybe you're breathing fresh air now like I am,
Starting point is 00:32:24 and you've got a breath of fresh air, but the Lord wants to highlight some things that you breathed in in your past, some philosophies, some thoughts, some ideas, some wickedness that you breathe in from your past that the Lord says, hey, I want to give a breath of fresh air to that area of your life. Our culture has an air in it. There's an air to this culture. There's an air child. I'll just speak for myself. I grew up in the 90s. Art Kelly was doing what he was doing. Lord, Diddy was doing what he was like there was an air ludicrous. And no, this isn't no shape to ludicrous, right? But I'm just telling you the songs that I was listening to the Clark Sisters. I wasn't listening. I was listening to Kirk Franklin. But I wasn't listening. I wasn't
Starting point is 00:33:09 listening to a whole lot of gospel music and almost all of the music that I was listening to was about sex. It was about promiscuity. It was about under the guise of just sexual liberation. So here I am at 14 years old, you know, time of every woman needs her own splackavelli. Ma'am, what are you talking about? Why are you spelling splacaveli? That's very, you got to be a certain kind of person to even know what I'm talking about. but that's the kind of person I was, right? And it was just normalized. It was okay. It was in the air. Wasn't until I got older and really wanted to step into my integrity to have my own definitions of womanhood and sexuality that I had to begin to question, like, where did this idea of what it means to be, I'm this, praise the Lord, if you're a young and please, zip it right now, because I'm going to go a little bit deeper, just a little bit, not too deep. But like, who has defined your body, the worth of your. your body, who has defined your sexuality, why do you feel like it needs to show up this way?
Starting point is 00:34:13 It's something that I picked up in the air. And I had to intentionally go rogue and reclaim my identity, my sexuality, my womanhood from what was in the air and what was normalized. So there is a air of this culture. There's an air of this culture as it relates to communication, as it relates to relationship, as it relates to vulnerability, as it relates to power and authority. It's in the air. And if you're not filtering your air through the Holy Spirit, if you're not filtering your air through the word, then you may be breathing an air that is actually damaging your spirit. But you can go rogue from what is in the air.
Starting point is 00:34:53 You don't have to just accept it. You can go rogue. Every generation has an influence that shapes minds, normalizes desires, and determines what we call truth. But is this the truth that you are willing to, accept and stand by and stand on when you are standing in heaven. Is this a truth that you are willing to pass on to another generation? Is this a truth that can stand in the presence of God? If your truth cannot stand in the presence of God and you haven't qualified it, then that is not your truth.
Starting point is 00:35:26 That is your suggestion. That's what's in the air. But I want us to get to a place where we have a truth that is so solid that we are willing to stand in the presence of God and say, I tested this truth. I put this truth through the fire. I surrendered this truth. I laid it at the altar. And now this is a truth that I am willing to stand on in the presence of God. This truth aligns with what you say about who I am. This truth aligns with your spirit. That is the only truth worth standing on. And so you have to be willing to ask yourself, is there a truth that I need to go rogue from? Is there something that I have accepted that the Lord wants to reject? Paul calls that atmosphere a course, a path that carries you even when you aren't choosing.
Starting point is 00:36:10 You think that I think, I'm not going to leave you out there, I think that I made some choices, but sometimes things were chosen for you. When he talks about, I'm pulling up in Ephesians, II, you walked according to the course of this world. You didn't even make this choice. You think you are who you are? No, you aren't who you are. you're just following the course of this world. If you haven't said, like, why do I think this way?
Starting point is 00:36:34 How did I become this way? Why is this my dream? Why is this my purpose? Why do I want these things? Why do I want this relationship? Or do I just want to walk according to the course of this world? I'm very careful when I'm asked to, you know, talk to women who are single about partnership, about getting ready for a partner?
Starting point is 00:36:52 I'm like, I don't know that that's God's plan for their lives. I don't know if that's truly what they want or what society has projected on to them. And so I just say every woman needs to know the Lord and to know the love of God and to walk in her purpose, her individual purpose, because she's more than just somebody's wife. She needs to understand her individual purpose. And if God has that for her, God will put that desire in her heart. Maybe she's someone who's like, I'm off him. I don't want nothing to do with him. God will put a desire in her heart that will allow her to be open. Or if that's not God's path, God will help her to grieve that and to step into a sense of fulfillment that doesn't
Starting point is 00:37:29 include her having to automatically conform to the course of this world, right? The language is meant to awaken us. It's not meant to scare us, okay? And so when we talk about salvation, I want you to understand that salvation is God's saying to us, one, we'll take it back to John 316. Here is my son. This is my son and whosoever believes in him will not perish, but will have everlasting life. If you believe that following Jesus, if you believe that modeling a life like Jesus is the only way that you can experience the fullness of the Father. All throughout the gospel, Jesus talks about I am the way, the truth and the life. If you want to get to the Father, you have to come through me. If you believe that to be your
Starting point is 00:38:14 truth and if you don't believe that, or maybe you struggle to believe it, I am just praying right now that God would begin to open your heart to this being a possibility. I understand like religion, we've done a terrible job in many instances of being advocates for what it means to be relationship with Jesus, but I am guessing if you're listening to me, you at least don't mind hearing the name of Jesus. Because one thing you know is going to be in Jesus' name right here. So I am just saying that if you are feeling something in your heart that's maybe open to it, I want you to just search to keep your heart open, to search for ways that Jesus resonates with you and with your walk. It's not just being saved so that you can have eternal life.
Starting point is 00:38:52 It is an invitation to be saved from the air. Jesus was a breath of fresh. air. That's why multitudes were thronging towards him. That's why so many were chasing after him. He was a breath of fresh air. God wants to offer you a breath of fresh air in every area of your life. So I want you to understand, one, you're not crazy for filling the gravitational pool to be like everyone else. You're not crazy for filling the gravitational pool to make your life like everyone else. In Ephesians, too, it tells us that we walked according to the course of this world. There's a gravitational pool. When you're in the current of this world, it's hard to resist. It's hard to say, no, you can't carry me that way. No, you can't do this to me.
Starting point is 00:39:39 It is hard to resist. However, the Lord will give you strength, power, and authority to resist, but you're not crazy to feel the pool. No matter how saved you are, you're going to feel the pool because you're in the world, right? But you're not of the world. And so to be in the world means there there may be moments where you get caught up and you have to say, ooh y'all, I was gray water raft now here for a minute, but let me hold on to this limb. Let me hold on to this vine. Let me hold on to this branch.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Okay, sometimes you need a branch so that you can get to the vine. Let me hold on to this because I do not want to be in the flow of what's happening in this world. There is an air that works over time to keep people spiritually unconscious. It's working overtime. I'm going to just turn my page and share with you this last thing before we go. Let me see how long has this been probably too long and too lengthy. But hopefully it's helpful for you. Oh, 40 minutes.
Starting point is 00:40:34 That's not too bad. Okay, so I want you to understand the authority that the Prince of the Air has. Now, for someone who's like, the devil don't have no authority. I am telling you that if you look in Luke, I want to say it's, is it Luke 8? We're about to see. Okay. let's go to Luke 8
Starting point is 00:40:56 I think it's Luke 8 y'all hear my pages and I'm highlighting okay it's not Luke 8 I want to see I know it's in Luke let's see
Starting point is 00:41:13 oh okay hold on hold on it's Luke 10 okay so if you don't think the enemy has any I'm going to just read this to you. It's in Luke 10, verse 19, and it says, Behold, I give you the authority to trample on. So this is Jesus. Jesus is saying this to the disciples that he has sent out. And by disciples, this is bigger than the 12. This is the 70. We
Starting point is 00:41:39 often talk about the 12, but Jesus dispatches the 70. And he says to them, behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy. Wait a minute. Even Jesus himself recognizes, and Jesus has all power, all authority, but he says the enemy has power. And so I want you to understand that the enemy has the power. And when we see, the enemy has had power in my life. The enemy has had power in your life. And I want you to understand that he has the power to blind minds. He has the power to plant suspicion towards God. Look at Genesis 3. He has the power to distort identities and desire. He shaped systems that work against human flourishing. This is what the enemy do. His power is persuasive,
Starting point is 00:42:26 but let me tell you something, it is not creative. He continues to do the same thing over and over again. Once you recognize the way that the enemy shows up in your life, you got to know he ain't going to have no new tricks. Anytime the enemy is busy in my life, he's always going to make me think that I'm not good enough. He's always going to make me feel like I don't have what it takes. Like, it is literally the same thing. When I get to the bottom of what I'm feeling in any given moment, especially when I want to to give up on purpose. I don't feel qualified. It always comes down to you are not good enough when things are being said about me. I'm like, oh my gosh, that hurts, but why does it hurt? Because it echoes this idea that I'm not good enough. He never uses anything new for me. What is the enemy using in your
Starting point is 00:43:05 life? Is it lust? Is it temptation? Is it pride? Is it productivity? He's not going to have a new trick. It's usually the same thing that has taken place for years in our life. He's not creative, but he is persuasive, he will catch you slipping and you will forget that that is the same trick that he uses over and over again. So I want you to understand that what happened in the garden, it wasn't just a sinning. In Genesis 3, the woman tells God that the serpent deceived me and then I ate from the fruit. I could pull that up if you want to. But in Genesis 3, the woman says, the serpent deceived me and then I ate. That's in Genesis 3. And if you look at the, if you're interested in doing a study on that word in Genesis 3.
Starting point is 00:43:47 That word deceived actually means that she was slowly seduced in the mind that he utilized deception. And from that place of deception, I ate from the fruit. That means that she didn't just sin that the enemy first changed the air that she breathed. He planted different thoughts about who God was. And when the air changes, you change, your actions change, your ways change. We have inhaled a worldview that made sin feel natural. that made our sin feel justified, that made our sin even feel necessary.
Starting point is 00:44:20 And now we have the ability to say, you know what, I can either continue to accept it or I can go rogue. My prayer for you, I'm going to close this out. And then I'll pick it back up next week. And, you know, I know just for the record, because I know some of you all are hair police, you know, I am recording these in different settings and different times. And I don't know if I'm going to be able to be. able to get another one out today. My hair may be rogue today and it may be with a wig on tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:44:50 Amen? Not because I don't love it. I'm going to make sure y'all see it because I think she's very cute. But just anyway, stay focused. Please stay focused. It's weird when you go off on a tangent. But listen, I want you to understand that as we introduce this concept of going rogue, it's powerful. It talks about rebelling against authority. It talks about reclaiming our identities. I want to give you I have a definition that our team is using, but I just want to give you, when you Google going rogue, you're going to be like, ooh, sis. It says, are you ready? Because now that you have this framework, I'm hoping that it really resonates with you.
Starting point is 00:45:29 Going rogue means to act independently. You once walked according to the course of this world. It means breaking from established rules, authority or the norm, often behaving, unpredictably, rebelliously, or even dangerously. Oh my goodness, that sounds crazy or does it? When you look at the state of the world, when you look at what's happening in this world, the course of this world, when you look at the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the sons of disobedience, if we look at this world, does it seem crazy for us to say, you know what, I'm good? Does it seem crazy for us to say, you know what? I'm good. Does it seem crazy for us to say,
Starting point is 00:46:14 You know what? I'm going to act independently. It may not be what everyone else in my family's doing, what everyone else in my friend's circle is doing, what everyone else in my culture is doing, but it is what God is calling me to do in this season. There are so many people in Scripture who have shown us what it means to go rogue. Jesus went rogue. Are you healing on the Sabbath? Are you really going to allow that man with a withered hand to be healed in the synagogue? God, Jesus says, I am going rogue because I understand my assignment is to make sure that I allow God to move in me and through me by any means necessary, even if it confuses people who felt like they knew what was better for my people, for me, for this role and for this season of my life.
Starting point is 00:47:00 He went rogue. The angel comes to marry and says, you're going to become pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Sir, I'm not married. I've never been with a man. But sometimes in order to say yes to God, it means that you have to go rogue from your expectations of what your life would look like. It means you have to go rogue from what other people wanted from you. But let me tell you the beauty of God. The beauty of God is that God never allows us to go rogue alone.
Starting point is 00:47:25 Before Mary could even explain what was happening to Joseph, the angel of the Lord came to her and he was like, listen, don't put her away because she's going rogue. Come alongside her and help to facilitate what I'm doing on the inside of her. There are people who are assigned on this path with you. There are people. I'm thinking about Elizabeth. There are people who have already gone road. You want to talk about going rogue? Her husband had to go mute because he questioned God.
Starting point is 00:47:52 So she's going through this pregnancy alone and secret. She's older than she anticipated being when having children. The Lord still heard her prayers. It was just later in life. And then the Lord tells her to do something crazy and to name that boy, John. He should have been named after his father. would have been more traditional given the time and error that they were living in. But Jesus says, the Lord says, I want you to go rogue.
Starting point is 00:48:15 I want you to do something different. It's 2026. We have tried to do the same thing over and over and over again. This is the year that we are going to do something different. And we're not just going to dream about it. We're going to have to get rebellious with it. We're going to have to get active. We're going to have to get intense.
Starting point is 00:48:36 We're going to have to become necessary. components of what God wants to do in the earth and not give ourselves any other options. And so, yes, we're going rogue. And I cannot wait to spend the next few weeks talking to you about what it means to go rogue in specific areas of your life. We talked about salvation. I want to talk about the process of sanctification and how we are continuing to be made into the image of God and what that looks like and how it challenges us and what areas are brought up in the process of doing that. But before we head out, I want to pray with you because I just believe that it is your season to challenge the authority that has kept you from all authority. To challenge the
Starting point is 00:49:23 authority that has kept you from moving in power, moving in obedience, moving in the will and the ways of God. I want to challenge that. And I am praying that the Lord would begin to open your heart and that the Holy Spirit would meet you. If you don't know who Jesus is, and something I have said today in this podcast has made you curious about going deeper in your walk and deep in your faith with God. First of all, thank you. Thank you for trusting me with this part of your life. I know that for many people who aren't subscribing to religion or they've been hurt by church or you're coming from a different walk of faith, that it can be interesting. And almost like you're talking about going rogue, you can feel like a betrayal to what you have accepted
Starting point is 00:50:06 to say, I'm going to give this a try. Betraying your insecurities is the greatest thing you can do for your destiny. Betraying your insecurities is the greatest thing you can do for your destiny. It will radically change your life. Betraying the rules that fear created. It's the greatest thing you can do for your life. I want you to go rogue and to become curious about what God can do and meeting you in the process.
Starting point is 00:50:36 Lord, I thank you so much for the opportunity to experience your love. Thank you, God, for not giving up on us. Thank you, Lord, for seeing us. Thank you, God, for turning our hearts towards you and sending voices, people, experiences that would ultimately bring us to a place of surrender. We lay out our lives to you, God. We lay out our hearts and our minds, and we say,
Starting point is 00:51:04 we don't know who we are. we don't know what we have accepted as truth that you want to change we don't know what was true for a season that you want to be true for this new next phase of our lives what the Pharisees believed was true for a season but then you changed what was true you changed how that truth would be expressed God and if you're changing how truth will be expressed in our lives God we're just praying that you would help us to long for you more than anything that is familiar or comfortable. I thank you, God, for those who are listening for the work that you're doing on the inside of them. I thank you for the roots that you are giving them. And I pray, God, that you would just continue to create a hunger
Starting point is 00:51:51 and a thirst inside of them, that they would desire to see your kingdom come and your will be done first in their lives, God, and then through the works of their hands. God, I pray a blessing over woman evolve, not just our events, not just our podcast, but the people who are connected to woman evolve. God, whether they're male or female, I pray that you would just meet them in the area of their greatest need, that you would allow them to experience rest and trust in you. And as they experience that rest and trust, God, I pray that it radically changes them from the inside out. Thank you for trusting me with this season of their life, God. continue to clean my hands and purify my heart that you can flow through me with ease and with grace
Starting point is 00:52:38 God. You know the areas of my life where there are stones, God. I pray that you would help me to continue to confront them, to not feel shame that they exist, but instead gratitude that you have highlighted them. Thank you so much for loving me too much to leave me the way that I am. God, if someone's listening and they don't know who Jesus is, they don't know your son, they're curious about him, God. I pray that even as they're listening, if they're opening their hearts, God, that you would help them to confess with their mouth, that they believe that your son is their greatest shot, their only shot at salvation, that your son, belief in your son, will change their lives for the better, that it will empower them, that it would cleanse them
Starting point is 00:53:29 from all unrighteousness, but that you would also transform them by righteousness through their belief, God, I thank you that through their faith, that they will experience deeper and greater revelation of who you are. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for filling them, for meeting them, for forgiving them and for allowing them to be released in liberation and peace and confidence into a world that they will never face alone because you'll be with them. Thank you for this time together. Thank you for this message. In Jesus' name, amen. Evolve.
