Woman Evolve with Sarah Jakes Roberts - From Verse To Life
Episode Date: October 15, 2025Today Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts shares a moment from Conference with Bible teacher Jennifer Lucy Tyler. If you've been wanting Scripture to feel clear, alive, and practical, this will meet you right ...where you are. Jennifer unpacks a simple toolbox to read the Word with confidence: pray first, observe what it says, interpret what it means, and apply it to real life. She uses familiar verses like Philippians 4:13 and Jeremiah 29:11 to show why context matters and how God's character anchors us in every season. Jennifer also shares from her new book, When Dreams Fall Apart: How Unanswered Prayers Deepen Your Intimacy with God, speaking to the messy middle between what we pray and what God performs. It is a timely companion if you are trusting God in a hard season and want language for hope and perseverance. Want more from the Woman Evolve 2025 Conference? What's up? It is your girl, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and you are listening to the Woman Evol podcast. I really hope that this podcast finds you in a good place, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I had a powerful deconstruction of a false identity that I experienced over this weekend that I can't wait to unpack with you more and more. But suffice it to say that,
when you ask God to show you yourself, put on some sunglasses because it's going to shine right on
through. But it's been beautiful to recognize areas of my identity that my fear, my shame built
and being able to deconstruct those and to reconstruct God's version of who I am.
Part of the way that I do this is by going back to God's word about his creation,
recognizing his heart towards his creation and his character and in the process of learning
God's character and his heart, I am reminded one of what I need to be striving towards,
but also what came crashing into my life the moment I became aware of his presence.
I wanted to share this episode with you because I feel like it's very powerful for you to
recognize how to engage with scripture in a way that is transformative. I get so many
questions from people like, I don't know where to start. I don't know where to start.
This is your go-to guide on where to start with all things Bible. And it is being brought to you
by Jennifer Lucy Tyler, who has an amazing new book out. I want you to check it out.
It's a powerful story of her testimony, but also reconciling with God when life isn't going the way
that we anticipated, leaving room for grief, leaving room for hope in the midst of it all. And I believe
it will be a blessing to you. Let's get into this week's episode.
And it is an honor to be here. I just first got to thank Pastor Sarah for her heart for this particular session.
She reached out to me and she said, you know what? I want to do a woman evolved Bible study.
And I said, all right, say less. Because if there is not one thing,
that I really, really enjoyed doing is studying God's Word.
But what's so interesting about it,
and I'm just going to just share a little bit of background on myself
before we dive into today's message,
is that God, he truly knows how to use the foolish things
to shame the wise, right?
I definitely was far, far from God, and God used his scriptures.
He used the word of God to transform my heart and to transform my life.
And it has birthed in me a desire to teach other women to get into God's words.
So for those who don't know who I am, my name is Jennifer Lucy Tyler.
and oh and I well praise God I was like okay and I am from Washington D.C. Any DMV? Oh the DMV is up in here.
The DMV is strong in here so I'm from D.C., southeast D.C. Period. And I love God and I've seen him operate in my life.
in so many seasons and so many ways and most recently I'm trying to operate this clicker
let me make sure I got the right button oh y'all see what shall see oh there it is oh I mean
how do I go back okay all right they should have told me how to work this can y'all see the picture
okay let me do it okay what picture do y'all see oh yeah oh yeah it says current look
Let me put on my glasses, so let me stop playing.
Let me stop acting like I can see.
Okay.
So that is my husband, Jeff Tyler.
We would have been married 14 years in September,
and that is our miracle child, Justice Joy.
Justice is absolutely a miracle.
It took us almost 12 years to have her.
and, you know, we can praise God for that.
During that season of infertility, we suffered several miscarriages, depression in some moments,
difficulty and challenges within our marriage, even.
And I've wrestled with the question that so many of us have asked of the Lord,
And that question is, where are you?
At some point in our lives, suffering and hardship hits all of our doorsteps.
And doesn't that become the question of your heart?
God, where are you?
Where are you in all of this?
And ladies, we are living in times where so much is happening in our nation, in our personal lives,
and throughout the world, that our faiths.
can be shaken if our foundation isn't built on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.
And so every Christian is going to experience valleys.
You're going to experience a wilderness season.
You're going to experience even the promised land, but it's up to us to aggressively cling
to Christ through them all.
But how do we cling to Christ if we don't know his word?
how do we lean into what's true, what's pure, and of good report,
with all of the messages that we're seeing in the media and on social media being spoken
among us, how do we discern truth?
And when everything has seemingly fallen apart in my life, how do I move forward with trusting
in the sovereignty of God?
And so I wrote a book about it.
And that is more than a shameless plug, but I have to share it because I believe that every Christian has been in this place.
When their dreams have seemingly fallen apart.
And the book is called When Dreams Fall Apart, How Unanswered Prayers Can Deepen Your Intimacy with God.
How many of you know God answers prayers?
but there's often a messy middle from the time that we prayed,
from the time that we may receive that yes,
or maybe that not yet, or maybe that not this way, right?
So that book is for those people that are in that messy middle
from the time they have prayed and they're believing God,
and they need to see who God is.
They need to trust in God's character.
And so, evolved women,
my objective here today is to give us a toolbox.
And this toolbox is going to show us how to practically lean into the truth of God's word.
This toolbox is going to help us to make much of God and his goodness
and to be able to see how he is working today because of his track record throughout scripture.
So my prayer for you,
all has been consistently that after this message, that with all of the transformative messages
that you are going to get at Woman Evolve, that you will be able to go back to your rooms
and with excitement, take what you have heard and study it out for yourself.
It is not enough for us to just be able to get a scripture and know a scripture.
and don't know how to really understand the context of it and to know what God is truly saying.
And so my prayer has been that I will walk around here and see women in circles with their
Bibles open and excited to just be in God's word. Amen?
And so every Bible study starts with prayer.
We are going to go to the source.
Father in the name of Jesus, Lord, we thank you.
We thank you for being in this room.
We know that we absolutely need you and your spirit leading and guiding us into truth as we study and as we desire to hear from you through your word.
Lord, you know each and every individual woman in here and what she needs.
For some, this message may be a refresher.
For some, it may be brand new.
Lord, however you meet these women, I just ask that you meet them where they are.
May this message bear much fruit in their lives and give them even greater hunger and thirst to dive into God's word.
In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
So every Bible study starts with prayer.
because apart from the Holy Spirit, the Bible methods are skills without power.
Okay?
We need the power of the Holy Spirit that leads and guides us into all truth to marry the Bible study skills that I'm going to teach you all today.
And so we want to make sure that when you open your Word of God, that prayer is the first thing that you do and that you're praying through.
throughout your study time, right?
You know why you need to pray throughout?
Because what happens?
I'm studying, right?
Okay.
My phone, let me just pick up this phone.
The baby starts crying, the doorbell rings,
distractions, right?
Because there's an enemy that wants to keep us away
from this truth.
Do you realize that every time you
say, I am going to get into God's word that it seems like something comes up. When you say, you know what,
I'm about to walk through this book of Jeremiah from begin. I'm about to read through a Bible study
plan. I'm going to read the Bible in a year. All of that. And then we get distracted, right?
And so that's why prayer is so important because literally when I'm going to the word of God,
it's warfare.
It's warfare because there's an enemy
that doesn't want me to open this book.
He wants to keep me away from knowing God.
He wants to keep me away from knowing
the truth of God's word.
And so we can't start Bible study without praying.
I also repent as I pray.
Repent of sin.
We don't want the distraction
and the blockage of sin
to stop us from being able to hear from God.
And so through our prayers, that's what we want to do as well.
We also want to thank him, right?
Because we're women of faith.
So as women of faith, we're going to thank God for revealing his truth to us in advance.
So we want to start off with some prayer.
And then, why do we need to have a process for leaning into Scripture?
It's important for us to have a process for this, because as flawed human beings, we all are tempted
to read our own ideas into the text instead of slowing down to uncover the God idea.
So if we believe the Word of God in 2 Timothy 316 that says all scripture is inspired by God
and it's profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, and for training in righteousness
so that the man of God may be complete and equipped for every good work,
then we must believe that there is an intended meaning within the text.
and we have to study in order to uncover it.
Secondly, the Bible was written to us, but not for us.
Now, that may sound like blasphemy to some of y'all, but hear me out.
The Bible was written to specific audiences with unique cultural and historical contexts.
that's different from our historical and cultural context, right?
And so that's why when we study,
it is important to even understand and to go a little deeper,
and I'm going to show you guys how,
to understand some culture and some historical context
so that we're not just,
so that we avoid the misapplication of scripture.
Now, y'all see this scripture here, this verse in Leviticus, did that pop up?
It says, but anything in the seas or the rivers that does not have fins and scales of the
swarming creatures in the waters and of the living creatures that are in the waters is detestable
to you.
Now, where did I just say I was from?
I'm from D.C. I'm from Maryland.
That means we love crabs.
I don't know.
How many of y'all love some shellfish?
You love some crabs.
Okay?
Now, if you were to take this verse in Leviticus
and you were to apply it literally,
how many of us would be going to see Jesus?
We may need to repent.
That's the danger of,
misapplying scripture and not digging deeper and leaning in to understand what is actually happening.
See, this verse was not written to me, but what we find is that it does teach us in Leviticus
about the holiness of God, right?
Leviticus is about the holiness of God and the importance of Jesus coming to fulfill the law
that we could never fully obey.
And because this Bible was written for us,
we got to know that studying it is not a sprint.
It's not a marathon even, because a marathon has an ending.
Because studying the Bible is a lifelong journey.
None of us arrive.
none of us get to a place of arriving.
I don't care how many MDives are behind your name and doctorates and theology degrees.
This is a lifelong journey for all of us.
We are all on this journey.
So I encourage you, ladies, be patient with yourself as you decide to take this journey to,
okay, I'm going deeper into my word.
And I'm like, man, I'm not understanding this or this is a little more challenging.
Be patient with yourself.
You know, for some of you, as I prayed in my prayer, understanding how to lean into
scripture this way that we're going through is new.
But for others, you may know how to study, but maybe experiencing a season of spiritual
dryness.
Has anyone experienced a season of spiritual dryness?
Am I by myself?
Because I've experienced that.
So now is the time to re-engage and drink from the well of living water that only Jesus Christ can give.
Because the Bible is living, breathing, and active.
His word is alive.
And as we lean into it, we cannot remain where we are.
And ladies, the Bible is a book about
God. The Bible is a book about God. And as we learn about God, we learn about ourselves. We learn about our need for him
due to the sin in our lives. We learn about the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. We learn about,
if you look through the Bible, sometimes it can read like a soap opera. We learn about the
messiness of humanity and the need for a perfect savior right we learn about redemption the redemption that we
have in Jesus Christ and we learn about our ability to walk in freedom in Christ I love this quote
I got to share it with y'all one of my favorite Bible teachers her name is Jen Wilkins she said in
Genesis, it does this by placing God as the subject of the creation narrative. In Exodus, it places
God in comparison to Pharaoh and the gods of Egypt. In the Psalms, David extols the Lord's power
and His Majesty. The prophets proclaim his wrath and justice. The Gospels and the epistles
unfold the character in person and the work of Jesus Christ.
And the book of Revelation puts his dominion over all things.
From beginning to end, the Bible is a book about God.
And so why are we not opening it to learn about God, our creator, our everything?
So these are some common mistakes that I want to share when we're
reading the Bible. Just a little, some mistakes that I've made. I'm not saying that y'all have made them.
I'm saying I make this. Has anyone ever did this? Lord, do you have a word for me? I need something.
You have to give me something in here. Okay. Now let me tell you, the Bible is not an eight ball.
I'm an advocate ball, okay?
Now, I will say, in God's loving mercy, there have been times I have done that, and I have gotten
a scripture that I was like, okay, I needed it.
But what that does is it can often rob us of truly understanding exactly what's going on
because we're cherry picking a scripture
and we're not taking time to read through the entire context.
But also, God wants to have a conversation with you all
through his word.
And so he wants us to open up the word
and actually read through it,
not just shake it and, you know, okay, God, what you got?
You know, so we want to give and make room for the Holy Spirit
to speak to us as we study God's word.
Another common mistake that many of us make is that we get more comfortable with reading
a bunch of books about the Bible more than the Bible itself.
Now listen, I'm an author too, y'all.
You know, so I'm not saying that you can.
can't learn from books, right? But you want to make sure that in your diet, that within your diet,
you have more word than everybody else's words on the word. Because what happens is you'll end up
getting confused because you're hearing from all of these different voices instead of sitting
before God and His Word with the Holy Spirit to really hear what he has to say, what the say of the
Lord, right? And so those are just a couple of, you know, common things that I wanted to share
about reading the Bible.
Now, what translation do I even start with?
Ah, man, there's so many translations of the Bible.
You know, I brought my new King James version up here.
I typically don't use a New King James version,
but this Bible is special to me,
so I wanted to bring it here to Woman Evolve.
But there's lots of different translations to choose from.
So there's a word for word translation.
There's thought for thought.
There is a meaning for meaning, and then there's paraphrase.
Okay?
So how many of you love the message Bible?
I love me a good message Bible, scripture, okay?
They make it plain because it's a paraphrase.
So what they have done is taken the idea.
ideas in scripture, and they basically paraphrased it and put it into their own words.
But when we are saying, okay, I want to try and seriously study the Bible, it's always good
to maybe go back and compare, if you're reading a paraphrase or even a meaning for meaning,
to go back to a word-for-word translation, or a thought-for-thought. Why?
It's because those particular translations are most closely, they're translated directly from the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic text.
And so if you want to really get into some study, you want to have a couple of different translations that you're working with.
So the translation that I may read a devotional with, you know, is something maybe like an NLT or a CSB.
but then if I'm getting into some study, I may want to go pick up that ESV, right?
Translation.
So you want to pick up and have a word-for-word translation at your fingertips.
Is this good to any of y'all?
Amen.
Good.
Praise God.
All right.
So this method that we're talking about is,
an investigative way to study in scripture called inductive Bible study. Inductive Bible study is what I'm
passionate about, is what I've been teaching about in ministry for the past eight years. It has
revolutionized how I study God's word. It slowed me down. It has helped my discernment to grow.
It has helped me to grow in the word because I know God in it even.
deeper way. And so first, we start with something called observations. I'm going to make some
observations of the text. And that simply says, what does the passage say? Before I do anything else,
what, before I go into meaning, what this means to me, or what this actually means,
and I'm going to talk about what this means to me
and what it actually means in a minute.
But you start with what does the passage say, okay?
And you do that by simply making observations.
So if any of you are, if you have,
huh, let me think.
My husband, he is a teacher,
and sometimes he has people that will come into his classroom
and they will sit.
any teachers in here and you get observations you get someone making observations on your teaching
and they're checking meticulously for specific things when you make observations of the text
first you want to read the entire text so if you're studying a scripture i always say go back
and read that entire chapter so you can understand more context or then go back and
the entire book, right? Because that book is going to give you more context. And then your observations,
you answer some questions. What style or genre is this written in? Because we have to understand
the Bible is written in different genres. You got poetry. You have narratives. You know, you have
apocalyptic literature. So the way that I seek to understand a poetic book like Psalms is going to be
different than a letter like Corinthians, right? So you want to understand what style or genre
is it written in. And then you want to answer some questions. Like I said, what do the verses
before and after it say? Right? Because if we are seeking to see,
that's important for us to understand the context.
You want to know who wrote this and who are they writing it too.
If you look throughout scripture, there's usually clues right there in the very first line,
the first couple of lines of the chapter, who they're actually writing it to.
You want to ask, where is the story taken place?
Why did they write it?
What is the author intending to communicate?
The author who was inspired by the Holy Spirit is intending to communicate some things.
And then the way that you can do that as you have this passage in front of you is you can look for keywords and phrases that stand out, right?
If you have a particular passage, and we're going to go through a sample passage, but you're going to be able to look for keywords in front of you.
phrases, things that are repetitive, because anytime something is repeated in scripture,
God is, that's intentional. He wants you to take note of that. So you want to take note of
key words that stand out, phrases, things that seem essential to the text. And you want to
slow down and just look at that, circle the words and underline the things that you don't
understand. Don't seek to interpret it right then and there, just say, okay, I'm going to go back
to that, right? Because you're in observation mode. Now, while observation, it leads to an accurate
understanding of what the scripture says, interpretation helps us to go a step further to
understand what it means, what the text means.
Context rules and interpretation, right?
In order to understand the context, we've got to make sure that we're reading everything.
The book that it's found in, so if I'm studying John 316, if I really want to understand the context even further,
I'm going to read that entire chapter and then that entire book of John so that I can know what's going on.
This helps us to avoid some things called isogesis versus exegesis.
Let's talk about that.
Anybody heard of isegesis in the room?
Okay.
Anybody haven't heard of isegesis?
All right.
So it's like half and half.
I love that.
So isogesis is when we read our own interpretation into the text.
So that simply means I'm reading my Bible, I'm looking at a scripture, and before I do any kind of work or any kind of study, I'm reading my own interpretation into the text.
I'm saying, oh, this is what I think it means, you know, and it may mean that or it may not mean that.
All right?
So that's what Issa Jesus is.
What's happening, y'all?
Is that thunder?
Is that the Lord speaking?
You pleased.
Thank you.
And then exegesis is when we take time to do the interpretation work, right?
Let's show an example of that.
So this is one of my favorite verses.
Philippians 413.
Can y'all read that for me?
Right.
How many of us had that on our Instagram bio?
We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
And a lot of times we may try to read into that particular text that God will give me the strength to win this tennis match.
Or he's going to give me the strength to close that business deal.
And I'm just, he's going to give me the strength to do this in X, Y, and Z, right?
But in context, it's a little bit deeper than just what God can do for us, right?
In context, if we just read a little bit more, we'll learn what's happening.
And so what is actually happening in that verse, Paul, he is writing a letter to the Church of Philippi
in prison.
He's in prison, and he doesn't know whether he is going to live or die.
He is writing this church to try to encourage them.
And he is thanking the Philippian Church for his concern for him and care.
And so then he says in verse 12, in verse 11, not that I am speaking of being in need, for I've learned in whatever situation to be content.
I know how to be brought low and I know how to abound in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger and abundance and need.
Then he says, I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Those all things, he's talking about contentment.
He is talking about contentment.
He is praising God for his provision.
And then he's like, hey, I have learned to be brought low and I've learned to be without,
but I am content in every situation I can do all things.
through Christ who strengthens me.
And so this verse isn't merely just something for us to just take and apply to any situation.
It's about a heart.
It's about our contentment in Christ.
We can be content in Christ.
We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
So that's just an example of a little bit of exegesis versus
is isegesis. Scripture will never, ever contradict scripture. This is another important tool when we
move into the interpretation stage. Interpretation stage is it takes some work, it takes some
patience, because that's when you take your Bible, right? And you know those, some of you have it in
your Bibles, those margins that have cross references, that's when you take the time to go through
your cross references, because it helps you to understand, and it helps you to understand that
the scripture interprets scripture. It ties in together. And so it'll help you to understand
what God is actually saying. This is also the point in my study where you break out that concordance.
I still break out that big, fat, strong concordance.
That thing still works, okay?
But that's when you break out those Greek and those Hebrew lexicons,
and you slow it down and you look up the words.
Because in scripture, the words mean different.
Like, you can't just read it all the time for face value.
You want to dig deeper.
and learn, okay, what is God truly saying?
What did he originally say?
And so then after doing that work that you did on your own,
that's when I say, okay, consult a trusted commentary.
And the reason why I say don't jump to commentaries
or Bible study notes and things like that right away
is because if you slow down and you take time to actually do this work,
you'll see that the Holy Spirit is in you just like he's in those people who wrote those
commentaries. And so those commentaries will do nothing but really just confirm what you've already
studied. And so those commentaries are helpful when you get stuck, but you don't want to just
run to a commentary. You want to just slow down and just look at the cross references. You want to
look up some words, you want to just dive deeper and trust that the same Holy Spirit that's in
them is also in you, leading and guiding you into all truth. Because the Holy Spirit, he wants us
to understand. He wants us to have this truth. Amen. And then finally, we get to the fun part.
This is the part we all like to jump to. But this is the story.
part that we want to slow down and make sure we do all of that work first before we get to,
how does this even apply to my life? Right? Because the word is meant to be lived out. It is meant
to be practiced. And so application is important, but we don't want to jump to application.
So in application, we're going to answer these questions. How does the meaning of the text
apply to my life, what aspects of God's character has this book or chapter shown me more clearly?
Because why is that important?
The Bible is a book about, it's a book about God.
So I'm going to see God's character all throughout the scriptures.
And so you want to ask what aspect of God's character has this book, chapter, or verse shown me?
And then what steps can I take to better live in light of this truth?
You also kind of ask, where is the gospel?
Because the gospel of Jesus Christ, his redemptive plan, it is all throughout Scripture.
So you're going to ask, where is the gospel in my application process?
And finally, how is God calling me to respond?
Now, this is where the Holy Spirit really gets to speak to us individually, because how he may be calling you to respond to this text that I've studied is going to be different than how he has maybe calling me to respond.
Is he calling you to forgive?
Is he calling you to repent?
Is he calling you to make a change in some secret area of your life and to release some things?
How is he calling you to respond?
Bible study without a response bears no fruit.
It bears no fruit.
And so God desires to bear much fruit in our lives.
So we have to sit with this text.
We have to sit with the Word of God.
and have a response.
How is the Lord calling me to respond?
All right, so y'all ready for some practice?
Some practice.
We're going to do a quick practice run
with the remaining time that we have
on a familiar passage of scripture.
One of my favorite scriptures.
It's probably on your bumper sticker.
How many of y'all got it on your bumper stick or have it in your house somewhere?
You have it on a t-shirt.
Jeremiah 29-11, for I know the plans that I have for you.
This is the Lord's declaration.
Plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Amen?
Now, when I hear this verse immediately, I want to shout and
take off. I want to shout and take off running in here because it is encouraging. That is an
encouraging verse. But let's look at some, what's the C word? Context. Let's look at some context.
Let's look at some context. So first, I'm going to come up to, come up here and see what
scripture I got up here. All right. So before we get to verse 11, if we read this entire chapter,
it says, for this is what the Lord says. Verse 10 says, when 70 years for Babylon are complete,
I will attend to you and will confirm my promise concerning you to restore you to this place.
For I know the plans I have for you.
Then that comes, right?
But we're going to go a little further.
I want to go up to Jeremiah 1.
Give me a second.
Let me just flip to my Bible.
Jeremiah 29, verse 1.
All right, so this, so let's make an observation.
This is the text of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the remaining exiled elders, priests, prophets, and all the people Nebuchadnezzar had deported from Jerusalem to Babylon.
Okay?
So who is he writing this letter to?
He's writing it to these exiled people, these exiled, not just people, but some exiled
leaders, elders, priests, prophets, and all the people that Nebuchadnezzar had deported
from Jerusalem to Babylon.
And so they are in exile.
They are in exile due to their sin, because the people of them.
Israel, as we see throughout scripture, the children of Israel and Judah consistently had this
thing where they sinned against God, right? So they would do the same. They would sin against God,
and then they will repent, and then, you know, God will forgive them, and then they'll sin again.
And so this time they were sent into exile to a place called Babylon, right?
And he says, so as we study this and we continue reading, we go to verse four, it says,
this is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says to all the exiles, I deported from Jerusalem to Babylon.
Pause.
Who deported them from Jerusalem to Babylon?
Who put them in exile?
It was God.
God put them in exile, right?
But then God, he puts them in this place of exile,
this place of suffering, this place away from their homeland.
And then he says, I want you to build houses and live in them.
I want you to plant gardens and eat their produce.
That's in verse five.
He goes on to say, I want you to find wives for yourselves
and daughters to men and marriage.
He wants them to multiply and to not decrease.
He wants them to pursue the well-being of the city that he has deported him to, right?
So what's interesting here is that he, we are seeing that God is the one who exiled them,
but he wants them to bear fruit even in their exile, right?
So we're learning something, we're seeing something about, not about us right now,
but about the character of God, right?
But we're going to get to us in a minute.
So then he goes on, and he says,
when the 70 years for Babylon are complete,
I will attend to you,
and I will confirm my promise concerning you
to restore you to this place.
For I know the plans I have for you,
and Jeremiah 29-11, right?
And then he says,
you will call me to come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
You will seek me and find me when you search me with your whole heart.
I will be found by you.
This is the Lord's declaration, and I will restore your fortunes
and gather you from all the nations and places where I banished you.
I will restore you to a place from which I deported you.
So we see declaration more than once.
That's something to pay attention to.
We see restore more than once.
That's also something to pay attention to, right?
God is trying to set, he's trying to share some things.
So what do we see about God's character in this passage?
Well, we see first that at times it is God who allows suffering.
It is God who may allow a different,
and tough place, right? So in this particular passage, he's allowing this moment, right? But in that moment,
in that place, in that place of exile, he doesn't abandon them. In that place of exile, he's still
with them even in their sin, even though they have sinned against God. He is still with them in their
difficult time. But then also, another thing that we see about God is that he still helps them
to bear fruit even in a place of hardship. So we see that God is a God that will help us,
even in a place of difficulty, even in a place of suffering, that he will still be with us and help
us to bear fruit that shows off, not us, but shows off his glory, right? And then also, before we get
to verse 11, for I know the plans that I have for you, there's a 70 years of exile, right,
that is happening. And so, God is a God that's not on our timetable. That's something else
that we see about him. So I don't know what, what?
where you are in your journey and in your life and what you're waiting for,
but God is a God.
He operates on his time, but it is in the right time.
And so, another thing that we see about God that we can shout about is that God is a restore.
He was a restore even to people who did not deserve his restoration.
But he is a restore.
He says that I will restore you to the place from which I deported you.
And so these are some things that we can abstract about the character of God.
So looking at this, yes, how would I apply it?
God does have great plans for me.
He does have great plans for me.
He has given me, and he will give us a future and a hope,
but we got to understand what may also come with that.
The future and the hope and the plans and all of that,
it doesn't always come overnight.
Sometimes there's tears with that.
There's exile seasons with that.
There's times that we feel alone with that, right?
Before we get to verse 11, we may have to walk through our 70 years of exile.
That could look like the fact that I'm wrestling and trusting the Lord to heal my body from cancer.
It could look like I just got laid off from my job from the government, right?
but I know that God's plans are good for me, but no matter what, he's still with us even in
our exile moments. And so I share that to say, Jeremiah 29-11 cherry-picked is not enough.
It's so much more that we're able to receive when we just slow it down and study.
in context and lean in to God's word.
We take time for some observation,
some interpretation, and some application.
So how many of y'all going to go back to your rooms
and do some inductive Bible study?
Glory to God.
I want to pray over y'all because I believe
that with this, and I already know that with this type of message, there's going to be a challenge
to keep us away from God's word. But that's not what we're going to do, because evolved women
are calling to operate as disciples requires us to be able to lean into scripture at all times.
because it's not just about us.
We're not just studying for us.
You're studying for the woman beside you.
You're studying for your children.
You're studying for the generations that are ahead of you
so that you can sit down and that you can sit and walk through
the scriptures with your daughters, with your sons,
with your friends, with your neighbors,
with the person on your job,
because we're in times where it's so much false messages
that are being communicated that we want to be discerners of truth.
And so all of those questions and all that stuff in a slide,
it wasn't just, you know, busy work.
This is work powered when you're,
When you couple it with the Holy Spirit, that's going to help you get free and stay free.
It's going to help you once you receive all of the word and everything that you're going to get this weekend.
Because there's some phenomenal women that are speaking here and incredible speakers.
It is going to help you to be able to take what they give you and to really implant it.
in your heart by studying their words that they say and studying it out and really bearing some
fruit in your lives. So let's pray. Father, I thank you for these women. Lord, I thank you for the
disciples that are in this room. Lord, I thank you for transformation that will take place because
of their hunger and thirst to lean into your word like never before and to study your word. Father,
I thank you that these women evolved will want to know you in an even greater way.
Lord, I pray for a fresh revelation as they study, Lord, that they would see you and know you
in an even deeper way and that you would continue to transform our hearts, Lord.
We need you.
We need your spirit, Lord.
And so I just prayed that your Holy Spirit was rest on them throughout the entire rest of the
the conference in their lives, that every time they open their word, Lord, that they would be guided
by you and that they would have a hunger to go deeper. All these things, we just thank you for.
In Jesus' name we pray, amen. Evolve.
