Starting point is 00:00:01 With World Radio News, I'm Kent Covington. The death toll from nationwide protests in Iran has now climbed to well above 600. What that death toll is exactly is impossible to say, with communications largely down after the Iranian government cut phone and internet service in a bid to quell the uprising. President Trump has said the United States may intervene if the Iranian regime violently targets protesters, but he told reporters aboard Air Force One.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Iran called to negotiate yesterday. The leaders of Iran called they want to negotiate. I think they're tired of being beat up by the United States. Protests erupted weeks ago over Iran's collapsing economy. State-run media showed large pro-government rallies on Monday, as authorities signaled that they intend to crack down further on demonstrations, challenging the country's leadership. The British government is pledging to develop new tactical ballistic missiles for Ukraine.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Those new Deep Strike missiles would carry a warhead of up to 200 kilograms over a range of more than 300 miles. The UK's Ministry of Defense said the missile would provide Ukraine with a long-range option to counter Russian aggression. Meantime, firefighters rushed to extinguish flames in Kiev after a Russian drone attack on an industrial neighborhood in the capital. No casualties were reported. Mexican President Claudia Scheinbaum says she had a productive call with President Trump, about security and combating drug cartels. World's Benjamin Iker reports. She said Trump again raised the idea of U.S. military help, but Scheinbaum said her words, We told him, so far it's going very well, and it's not necessary. Scheinbaum claims her government is also cracking down on cartels, leading to fewer homicides and falling fentanyl seizures.
Starting point is 00:02:01 But the Trump administration has reportedly asked for more, quote, tangible results and more cooperation to dismantle the cartels. For World, I'm Benjamin Eicher. Social Media Giant Meta is appointing former Trump official Dina Powell McCormick as the company's president. Facebook and Instagram's parent company announced the appointment Monday saying the former Trump security advisor is the perfect choice. The 52-year-old Egyptian-born executive also served under President George W. Bush. Bush and is married to Pennsylvania's newly elected GOP Senator Dave McCormick. Met his founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said McCormick's experience in global finance and relations makes her uniquely qualified for the role. For World Radio, I'm Kent Covington.
