The U.S. Supreme Court hearing oral arguments today in two cases that could determine whether states can protect female athletes from having to compete against men and boys who identify as female.
At issue is whether laws in Idaho and West Virginia are discriminating based on sex as they prohibit biologically male athletes from competing in women's sports.
Lower courts had struck down the bans as unconstitutional violations of title.
and equal protection. House Speaker Mike Johnson spoke outside of the Supreme Court today.
House Republicans will always stand for American women and girls, and we hope and pray that this
Supreme Court will do exactly the same. Lawyers for the states maintain that separating sports
based on biological sex preserves fairness and safety for female athletes and is consistent
with Title IX's definition of sex. A decision is expected by early summer.
In Ukraine, another day, another Russian barrage.
Authorities say four people were killed and six more were wounded after Russian forces attacked the postal terminal in Kharkiv.
First responders rescued 30 people from the ruins of the building and in the Ukrainian city of Odessa.
Authorities say that attack occurred in a residential area in damage to fitness center and a public hall.
U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Tammy Bruce criticized Russia for, in her words,
its dangerous and inexplicable escalation of the war.
Some relatively good news this week on inflation.
World's Mary Muncie reports.
The Labor Department says inflation held steady in December,
with consumer prices rising three-tenths of a percent last month,
the same pace as November.
That largely beat expectations.
Core inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy categories, also ticked up two-tenths.
Compared with a year ago, inflation stands at 2.7 percent.
That's far below the peak seen in 2022, but still above the Fed's 2 percent target.

Conservative cartoonist Scott Adams, best known for creating the Dilbert cartoon strips,
died today at the age of 68, after a moment.
months-long battle with prostate cancer. Scott's ex-wife, Shelley Miles, said Adams died peacefully
surrounded by loved ones. Adams had spoken publicly in recent weeks about considering Christianity
late in life, sometimes framing it in practical, even tongue-in-cheek terms.
