With World Radio News, I'm Mary Muncie.
President Trump says the United States needs control of Greenland,
and those who don't back him on that may face economic consequences.
I may put a tariff on countries if they don't go along with Greenland,
because we need Greenland for national security.
Trump's statement today was the first time the president has mentioned
using tariffs to force the issue.
Meanwhile, a group of U.S. senators met with Danish and Greenlandic officials,
in Copenhagen to discuss the tensions.

When you ask the American people whether or not they think it is a good idea for the United
States to acquire Greenland, the vast majority, some 75 percent, will say we do not think
that that is a good idea.
Trump insists control of Greenland is vital for the construction of the Golden Dome Missile
Defense Shield.
A crisis within a crisis. That's how some are describing the current situation in Ukraine,
as temperatures plunged to below freezing following Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

The call comes as a senior hardline cleric called for executions of detained protesters
and issued sharp warnings toward the United States.
On the White House lawn today, President Trump told reporters he was satisfied that Iran is
not executing peaceful protesters.

But human rights groups outside Iran say thousands may have been killed during the crackdown.
Iran's exiled crown prince urged the U.S. to follow through on earlier promises of support for protesters.
