Starting point is 00:00:00 With World Radio News, I'm Paul Butler. The FBI says it stopped a potential terrorist attack on New Year's Eve in North Carolina. Happy New Year, and it is a happy new year, although it came very close to not being such a happy new year for a lot of people. At a press conference today, U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson announced that an 18-year-old suspect had been arrested after planning an attack for more than a year. He was planning this attack in support of ISIS. The suspect had discussed his plans. with two undercover agents. When the FBI searched his home,
Starting point is 00:00:33 they found weapons and detailed notes for the attack, which he had hoped would kill Christians, Jews, and LGBTQ individuals. Officials believe the suspect was working alone. Police say a Kentucky woman is facing a fetal homicide charge after a chemical abortion. World's Travis Kircher has more. State troopers were called to a Campton Kentucky Health Care Clinic on New Year's Eve,
Starting point is 00:00:58 according to a spokesman for Kentucky State Police. Clinic staff told officers that a 35-year-old woman walked into the facility and told them she'd ordered abortion pills online and aborted her baby. Afterwards, she'd said she'd buried the baby in her backyard. Abortion, including chemical abortion, is illegal in Kentucky unless the mother is at risk of death or serious injury. The woman was arrested and is now charged with fetal homicide, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence.
Starting point is 00:01:28 For World, I'm Travis Kircher. Next, Unborn Children have new protection in Puerto Rico. World's Dennis Crowley explains. The Puerto Rico Legislature has passed a law, identifying unborn babies at all levels of pregnancy as persons. Puerto Rico's governor has signed the measure into law. The legislation lists benefits an unborn child could receive, including health insurance and property rights.
Starting point is 00:01:57 The measure does not change current Puerto Rico law, allowing abortion to preserve the health of the mother, including mental health. For World, I'm Dennis Crowley. Meanwhile, all eyes are on the Big Apple's newly inaugurated mayor, Democratic socialist Zeran Mendami. Software engineer Taylor Conlon says he's optimistic about Mendami's leadership. Because I think he has a lot of energy and has the right idea and can kind of bridge the gap between a lot of different parties. But flight attendant Beverly Helm expressed concern. Because New York is the quintessential place of everybody's dreams come true. And I don't think this particular person is about that.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Speaking yesterday, Mom Donnie said he was elected as a Democratic socialist, and he intends to govern that way. For World Radio, I'm Paul Butler. For more sound journalism grounded in facts and biblical truth, visit worldradio.com. Thank you.
