Starting point is 00:00:01 With World Radio News, I'm Kent Covington. President Trump is heading to Davos, Switzerland today for the World Economic Forum, where he plans to make his case once again that the United States must acquire Greenland for national security reasons. We have to have it. They have to have this done. They can't protect it. Denmark, they're wonderful people. And I know the leaders, they're very good people, but they don't even go there. European leaders have already been discussing the matter, including at an emergency EU meeting. They're hoping to talk Trump out of planned terror.
Starting point is 00:00:31 against countries that oppose a U.S. takeover of Greenland. President Trump said he spoke with NATO chief Mark Rota today, who has not endorsed the takeover bid, but Trump says Ruta committed to finding a way forward on Greenland. Ukrainian President Volodymer Zelenskyy says he likely will not be attending the World Economic Forum in Switzerland this week. Zelensky says he'll only show up if documents on security guarantees with the United States and the prosperity plan are ready for his signature
Starting point is 00:01:01 if not, he says he's needed at home. That after a major Russian air strike overnight knocked out heat and power to about half the apartment buildings in Kiev. Authorities in Guatemala say at least 10 police officers are now dead following coordinated violence linked to street gangs. World's Mary Muncie has more.
Starting point is 00:01:24 The unrest began over the weekend when inmates took control of three prisons holding 43 guards hostage. Officials say, the gangs were demanding special privileges for their leaders. After police regained control of one prison, gunmen launched multiple attacks on officers across Guatemala City. President Bernardo Aravello approved a 30-day emergency order, later backed by Congress. It limits public gatherings and allows police to detain suspected gang members without a warrant. Security is now heavier in the capital.

Starting point is 00:02:27 She replaces fellow Democrat Phil Murphy, giving Democrats control of the governor's office for a third straight term. for the first time in more than 60 years. Cheryl immediately signed two executive orders during the ceremony, one freezing utility rate increases, and another aimed at expanding electricity production, including solar and nuclear power.
