Starting point is 00:00:01 With World Radio News, I'm Kent Covington. U.S. Special Envoy, Steve Whitkoff, says the Trump administration is making headway on a possible end to the war in Ukraine. We have a security protocol agreement that's largely finished, a prosperity agreement that's largely finished. And I think the people of Ukraine are now hopeful and expecting that we're going to deliver a peace deal sometime soon. Whitcomb's remarks coming during a cabinet meeting this afternoon. President Trump added that he personally asked Russia's Vladimir Putin. Putin not to fire on Ukrainian cities and towns for one week as the region experiences record-setting cold. Trump said Putin agreed to that provision, but the Kremlin will not confirm that, in fact.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Russia launched an overnight drone attack on the Ukrainian port city of Odessa. No injuries were reported. Democratic leaders say they're determined to see Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem removed from office one way or another. That comes after two fatal shootings in Minnesota involving federal. Immigration agents, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. We intend to proceed with impeachment proceedings if Christy Noem is not fired. Christy Noem is a complete and total embarrassment. She's a disgrace.

President Trump, though, has given no indication that he plans to ask for the Secretary's resignation. Funding for DHS has now become a sticking point for Democrats ahead of a Friday deadline to avoid another government shutdown. Starting point is 00:01:49 There are literally hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of linemen, both from in-state and out-of-state, that are out working. Mississippi also sent hundreds of National Guard troops to cut fallen trees off of highways. The National Weather Service says another wave of Arctic air will push temperatures into the teens Friday night with dangerous wind chills. At least 11 people were killed today in a highway collision in South Africa. World's Mary Reinkert has more. A deadly crash occurred when a truck collided with a minibus taxi on a highway just south of Durban in South Africa's Zwazulu-Natal province. Emergency vehicles say a school child was among those killed.
Starting point is 00:02:30 Eight others, including the minibus driver, were seriously hurt and taken to the hospital. Police are investigating what caused the crash.
