Starting point is 00:00:00 With World Radio News, I'm Mary Muncie. We know the name of President Trump's pick for the Federal Reserve Chairman. Trump posted on social media this morning that Kevin Warsh is the man for the job. Warsh is a former Fed governor and a visiting fellow of economics at the Hoover Institution. Analysts, like the Brooking Institution's David Wessel, say all eyes are on Warsh to see if he will act in compliance with Trump's second. policies, or whether he plans to forge his own path. We'll have to see. I don't think he will be perceived as independent unless he does things
Starting point is 00:00:40 that demonstrate that. And it may be a while before we know. Warsh is scheduled to replace current Fed Chair Jerome Powell in May. Trump and Powell have had a turbulent relationship with the president regularly criticizing Powell over his refusal to lower interest rates more aggressively. Former CNN anchor Don Lemon is under arrest. Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a statement today saying federal agents took Lemon and three others into custody this morning. She says the arrest come in connection to the Sunday morning demonstration that took place inside City's Church in Minneapolis earlier this month. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche was tight-lipped about Lemon's arrest this morning when asked about it by reporters.
Starting point is 00:01:28 Do you have a reaction to it? I don't know what that means. What are you looking for me to do? Jump up and down? No, I don't have a reaction to it. I don't know that the charges are unsealed yet. So, no, I can't. I'm not going to comment on that.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Lemmon's attorney issued a statement calling the arrest a First Amendment violation. He insists Lemon was in the church, not as a demonstrator, but as an independent journalist covering the protest. Meanwhile, in Washington. It'll be beautiful. So I'm going to sign this. President Trump signed an executive order. earlier today to bring the Indy car race to Washington, D.C. The race will be held this summer in honor of America's 250th anniversary. The president also gave an update on ceasefire talks
Starting point is 00:02:13 between Russia and Ukraine, saying he thinks the peace process stands a chance. I have ended eight wars. All of them, I thought, were going to be maybe tougher than this one. Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, the Senate is racing to find a compromise to a compromise to a avert a partial government shutdown at midnight tonight. But it may be inevitable. Even if the Senate can work out a deal, the House still has to approve it. And the House doesn't reconvene until Monday. For World Radio, I'm Mary Muncie.
