Starting point is 00:00:00 With World Radio News, I'm Kent Covington. The Senate voted Thursday to send a message to President Trump about any potential further military action against Venezuela. Today's resolution would limit Trump's ability to launch any further strikes without approval from Congress. Senate Majority Leader John Thune remarked shortly before the vote. This is the Democrats trying to poke the president, and I hope that we have the votes to defeat it. But the vote succeeded 52 to 47, with funding.
Starting point is 00:00:30 five Republicans joining Democrats to pass it. Democrat Tim Cain said he was encouraged by the outcome. I came to the Senate obsessed about these warpower issues because I'm a military dad and I represent a state that has deep, deep military equities. But today's vote was largely symbolic. While it does clear the way for a full Senate vote next week, passage on the Senate floor would require a full 60 yes votes, which is unlikely, and even then President Trump would have to sign it into law.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Florida Governor Ron DeSantis plans to call a special. legislative session in April to redraw the state's congressional map. The Republican governor says he's launching the effort for two reasons. Our population has changed so much in the last four or five years. We need to get a portion properly and people deserve equal representation. DeSantis also pointed to a U.S. Supreme Court case in which he says the justices are likely to rule that racial gerrymandering is unconstitutional, and he believes Florida has districts that were racially gerrymandered, adding, quote, we're getting out ahead of that. The Democrats say there's only one reason for the move to try and win additional House
Starting point is 00:01:35 seats for Republicans in this year's midterm elections. New York Governor Kathy Hockel says free, limited universal child care is coming to the Big Apple. Hokel unveiled the program with newly elected New York City mayor, self-described socialist Zoran Mamdani. And today I'm proud to announce that New York State is paying the full cost to launch to care for the first time. Universal daycare for two-year-olds as proposed by Mayor Mondani.
Starting point is 00:02:02 OECL said the program is funded until 2028 to help working parents of two-year-olds in New York City. But critics warn of a steep long-term price tag for taxpayers in question whether the state can sustain the program once initial funding runs out. O'KL also announced her plan to enact universal preschool for four-year-olds across the state by 2028. Protests flared in Tehran again today
Starting point is 00:02:26 after Iran's exiled crown prince called for people to take to the streets. Witnesses say chance echoed from apartment windows and crowds gathered in several neighborhoods.
