On this vote, the aza 51, the nays of 48, three-fifths of the senators duly chosen and sworn not having voted in the affirmative, the motion is not agreed to. A pair of dueling health care measures failed to pass in the Senate with Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire this month, minority leader Chuck Schumer.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Now Republicans have all but guaranteed that tens of millions of people We'll see their premiums double or triple or more next year. Republicans now own America's health care crisis. But Republicans say Democrats just blocked a better plan. The GOP proposal would send money to Americans' health savings accounts rather than re-uping Obamacare subsidies. GOP senator and physician John Barrasso argued. The Democrats get their way.
Starting point is 00:00:51 They will send another $83 billion directly from the federal government to health insurance companies, Which, you know, what have we seen with these things? That just raises prices even further. Republicans called the Democratic Plan the Obamacare bailout, and the White House says the Affordable Care Act is only growing more expensive and less effective. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted revisions to a U.S.-backed peace deal between Russia and Ukraine. White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt told reporters that President Trump is aware of the changes but offered no further comment.
Starting point is 00:01:26 She also said that Trump may send representatives to Europe for meetings on Ukraine, but only if he thinks there's a real chance of signing a peace agreement. The president is extremely frustrated with both sides of this war, and he's sick of meetings just for the sake of meeting. He doesn't want any more talk. He wants action. He wants this war to come to an end. She went on to say that the president has already spent more than 30 hours in meetings on Ukraine in the past couple of weeks. Zelensky previously said any deal that cedes Ukrainian land to Russia is unlawful. off the table. It's not clear yet what revisions Ukraine has made to the plan.
Starting point is 00:02:02 The U.S. military and Japan carried out joint flight drills this week in what defense officials are calling a show of strength at a time when China is stepping up military activity around Japan. World's Benjamin Iker has more. American B-52 bombers and Japanese F-35 and F-15 fighter jets took to the skies over Western Japan. The drills came one day after Chinese and Russian bombers flew a long joint route near Japan, prompting Tokyo to scramble jets. Japan says the region's security environment is growing more dangerous, especially as Beijing increases pressure around Taiwan and expands operations near Japanese islands.
