As the showdown over Homeland Security funding continues,
Senate Majority Leader John Thune warns that the department is set to shut down next week,
that is, unless Democrats negotiate with Republicans about changes to immigration enforcement
to reach an agreement on a funding bill.
If they actually do want to fund the government, Department of Homeland Security,
and we need to, then they need to sit down with the White House
and figure out what it is they actually want.
We haven't seen what that is yet.
Among the demands Democrats have clearly stated
as a requirement for federal agents
to take off their masks and identify themselves.
It's about people's basic rights.
It's about people's safety.
But Republicans say in this political climate,
removing masks would open agents
to personal attacks and violent targeting.

battalion and ordered operations Savannah Shield to protect at-risk communities.
Separately, the Kaduna State Governor announced Thursday that all 183 Christians abducted last

U.S. job openings fell again in December, dropping to about $6.5 million, the lowest level since
2020.
That figure was well below what economists had expected and points to continued softness in the labor
market. The number of openings declined across industries from last month's revised count of nearly
6.9 million. Workers quitting their jobs stayed steady and layoffs were largely unchanged.
The soft hiring picture comes even though overall economic output has grown. For World Radio,
