Israel is prepared to unilaterally attack Iran unless its ballistic missile program is dismantled.
That, according to a report by the Jerusalem Post, citing unnamed Israeli defense officials
who call Iran's ballistic missile program an existential threat to Israel.
They add that if the program crosses an unspecified red line, Israel will have to act.
President Trump is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Etinjahou this week
to discuss the matter.
All of this comes amid ongoing talks
between Iran and the U.S.
about Iran's nuclear program,
which Iranian President Massoud Peseskian addressed today.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, for its part,
will take steps toward the success of this path
and hopes that the other side
will also remain committed to this objective
and its requirements,
without making excessive demands.
He said he's hopeful of reaching what he called a fair resolution,
but leaders in Tehran say they have
a right to a nuclear program and they will not surrender that right.
There is global outcry today over the sentencing of former Hong Kong pro-democracy media
mogul Jimmy Lye. The court's handed the 78-year-old lie a 20-year sentence, drawing condemnation
from democratic governments everywhere. The United States called lies sentence unjust and tragic,
and the United Nations and European Union called it a monumental injustice. And the UN's human
and Wright's Chief added that the case risks criminalizing normal journalism and civil society work.
Jimmy Lye's son, Sebastian Lye, says he had hoped the government would consider his father's age and health.
His life is at threat. He lost 10 kilos over the last year alone. He's got heart issues now. He's got diabetes.
We're incredibly worried about his life. He was convicted of supposed conspiracy to collude with foreign forces
and conspiring with others to publish so-called seditious articles critical of the government.
That came after Beijing imposed a so-called national security law on Hong Kong, which has been used to silence dissent.
Authorities in China and Hong Kong defended the court's decision, saying it reflects the spirit of the rule of law.
Football fans in Seattle are celebrating today after the Seahawks victory over the New England Patriots last night in Super Bowl 60 by a score of 29 to 13.
We love our Seahawks. I'm so proud. This is for the whole city.
This rocks, man.
I was just so proud.
Seattle place kicker Jason Myers set a Super Bowl record with five field goals.
Kevin Walker, the third, was named Super Bowl MVP after running for 135 yards,
adding two catches for 26 yards.
That makes him the first running back to win that award in nearly three decades.
