With World Radio News, I'm Kent Covington.
At the White House, President Trump welcomed Ireland's Prime Minister in the Oval Office.
Well, thank you very much. It's a great honor to have Tyshak Martin from Ireland, and thank you very much to be in here.
He said the two had planned to talk at length about trade, but for reporters invited into the room, the war in Iran was top of mind.
The president again said that the military mission is going extremely well, systematically devastating Iran's military,
If we left right now, it would take 10 years for them to rebuild.
But we're not ready to leave yet, but we'll be leaving in the near future.
Prime Minister Martin, for his part, said Ireland's official position is to emphasize diplomacy.
We have to continue to work to seek.
Can we bring peace, different regime to Iran, where Iranians can live in peace again?
Trump this week said that U.S. and Iranian officials have begun talks aimed at ending the war,
but he said it's tough, in part, because it's unclear who is actually in charge in Iran right now.
And meantime, Israel says it has killed two more of Iran's most powerful leaders in airstrikes.
Ali Larjani headed Iran's Supreme National Security Council, and many saw him as the country's de facto leader,
given that its newly named Supreme Leader had yet to be seen in public.
Also killed was besieged commander Golomreza Soleimani, whose forces had brutally cracked down on protesters
recently killing tens of thousands of Iranians.
President Trump on Tuesday also said that he's not happy that many other nations are not stepping up to help guard the Strait of Hormuz from Iranian attacks, and he particularly called out NATO allies.
NATO's making a very foolish mistake, and I've long said that, you know, I wonder whether or not NATO would ever be there for us.
So this was a great test.
The president hinted in possible consequences but did not elaborate.
The Iranian regime says only certain countries will be allowed to say,
send ships through the strait. The attacks on oil tankers and refining facilities have caused
oil prices to spike. A new study finds the science behind medicinal marijuana to be far weaker
than many people assume. World Terrace and Waters has more. The study appears in the Lancet
Psychiatry Journal. In the largest review of its kind, researchers at the University of Sydney
analyzed more than 50 clinical trials spanning 45 years. And they found little evidence the drug
works for the very conditions people most often use it for, anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
For depression specifically, researchers could not find a single qualifying trial. The researchers
urge patients to explore more effective treatments before turning to cannabis. For World, I'm Harrison Waters.
