The Pentagon is pointing to early gains in its campaign against Iran's military infrastructure.
U.S. leaders say forces struck well over 1,000 targets across the country in the first 24 hours
using attacks from air and sea, as well as cyber attacks.
Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dan Cain.
This was a massive overwhelming attack across all domains of warfare, striking more than a thousand targets.
in the first 24 hours.
Those strikes hit missile sites, naval forces, and command centers tied to Iran's
Revolutionary Guard.
The effort has been coordinated with Israel, whose jets flew hundreds of sorties.
President Trump today said this was the right time to strike after failed negotiations.
This was our last best chance to strike what we're doing right now and eliminate the
intolerable threats posed by this sick and sinister regime.
Iran responded by firing waves of missiles and drones at U.S. and allied positions across the Middle East.
Four U.S. service members have now died in the fighting.
In South Sudan, an official says at least 169 people were killed after insurgents raided a village in a remote area.

Unmanned aerial drones are now helping to deliver God's word.
World's Dennis Crowley explains.
A Bible drone has been designed to get Bibles to areas hard to reach and into countries with closed borders to Christianity.
The drones cost $12,000 each.
And Cisneros, the company that builds the drones,
says they are equipped to carry 100 printed Bibles or 200 audio Bibles to distances of just over
six miles. The company says audio Bibles are essential as the drones are flying into some areas
where many people are not able to read. The company serves areas where fewer than 1% of a population
is Christian. For World, I'm Dennis Crowley.
Emergency services in South Africa say at least six people were killed
when part of a building collapsed in Johannesburg today.
Two others were trapped under rubble and three people were missing.
An emergency services spokesman said one person had been rescued.
The rescue effort was complicated because parts of the building were still unstable.
