With World Radio News, I'm Kent Coveington.
President Trump is removing Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noam from her post.
Trump announced on social media that Noem will be assuming the role of special envoy for the shield of the Americas,
a new security initiative in the Western Hemisphere.
The announcement came two days after Noam's testimony at the Capitol.
Thanks to President Trump's leadership and the hard work of the men and women of DHS,
our department has delivered historic results and has made our community safer.
Many Democrats have been demanding her ouster following a pair of fatal shootings in Minnesota involving federal immigration agents.
Some Republicans have also been critical of her leadership.
But the president is not among those critics, at least not publicly.
In his statement, he thanked Noem for her service and said she has, quote, served us well and has had numerous spectacular results.
Trump said he is nominating GOP Senator Mark Wayne Mullen of Oklahoma to replace Noem.
In the Middle East, traffic surged today after the
Israeli government ordered the evacuation of the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital of Beirut.
The exodus comes amid the sound of gunfire in southern Lebanon as fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed terror group, Hezbollah, intensifies.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heard there praising the cooperation between the U.S. and Israel,
and saying that Israel is very capable of striking what he describes as terror targets in both Iran and Lebanon.
Meantime, the Trump administration is working on plans to secure the Strait of Hormuz to ensure safe passage for oil tankers, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt.
It's something that is being calculated actively by both the Department of War and the Department of Energy.
They're working very closely, and this is, again, something they're monitoring.
And if and when necessary, the United States Navy, will provide assistance to escort oil tankers through the strait.
The strait, one of the world's most critical energy corridors, is under threat by Iran.
President Trump has also ordered the U.S. to provide risk insurance for maritime trade in the Middle East.
Police in London say they have arrested three men suspected of spying for China,
and one of those three is married to a lawmaker from the governing Labor Party.
World's Kristen Flavin has more.
Police say they arrested a 39-year-old in London and two others in Wales aged 68 and 43.
Police did not name them because they had not yet been charged.
The case follows several other investigations into alleged Chinese spying.
The British Domestic Intelligence Service warned lawmakers in November
that Chinese agents were trying to recruit them through LinkedIn and front companies.
