Hello and welcome to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
My name is Evan Mc today.
I'm joined by my special star right here, Cole Dalke,
Cole Safety on the football team, me retired kicker.
Get some Hillsdale College Charger Baseball today.
University of Hillsdale, Highlestow College,
whatever we're going to call us.
He plays the University of Finley, Finley Oilers today.
Already played two games on Friday.
Split the series, one to one.
Hillsdale, very not the great.
greatest performance in game one.
Well, it was in that game 21 to 2, but a great bounce back in game 2.
You're able to stay calm and win that game 5 to 3.
So, you know, split the series so far.
Hillsdale needs to win both of these games in order to win the series.
Yeah, you're looking at the Chargers.
They're about mid in the north right now in the G-Mack.
Finley Oilers, top of the north, and they split last series, which is looking pretty good for
our Hillsdale Chargers.
Hopefully they can pull both of these away today.
Yeah, Pat McLean on the mound today for the Chargers.
darting pitcher first time all season usually a relief pitcher but had some struggles and lost a lot of
pitcher so they finally pulled the trigger and made mclean a starter uh and i'm gonna give it aside to my
partner sack a falter offensive lineman just got out of class so he's gonna be our lead today
so have a good one and enjoy today's game well let's talk a little bit more about our starting
picture that pat mclean he is from birmingham michigan uh 1.82 er a on the season pretty good
on the team so far he's got two wins under his belt i think we're looking for a good matchup between
the strong pitcher and uh finley's they got some strong bats but we're bringing up one of our best
pitchers to start so we'll see how this goes up to bat first is nick palm short stop number seven
mclean on the mound iron him down first pitch strike by mclean low low but it got in the box
oh one count little outside and away from mclean just a little outside and away from mclean just
One one will be the counts.
Just missed that one.
Just missed.
It's all right.
He's got a good arm on him.
Got to catch him on some different pitches.
There you go.
Klinge gets another one down.
Strike two, one two count.
Palm is a pretty decent hitter for the Oilers.
He has a 0.327 batting average so far this season.
See if McLean can clean him up.
Get some swinging.
Down to shortstop.
He throws it and just safe.
Paul was able to run that down to first base.
Good play by the infielders, but couldn't make it in time.
Good effort over there on the left side.
To do you have made a diving play.
Just couldn't quite get there.
Aaron's throw was on the money.
Just got beat out by Nick Palm there.
Yeah, Palm's a fast runner.
Now up second.
Number two, Keelan-Daniel right-fielder for the Oilers.
First hit, or first pitch right down the middle, but fouled off.
number two. He's a little behind on that one, the better there. Hopefully,
hopefully Patrick can stay ahead in this count. That one looked right down the middle, but it
got called ball, maybe a little outside, one-one count from Clean. Palm takes two,
the throw, errant, but the second baseman stops it before it rolls the outfield.
Palm steals second on the pitch called ball outside, two-one count, runner on second. Zero outs.
And Nick Palm had a pretty good jump on that one.
Had a decent lead.
And even if the throw was on the money, I feel like Nick Palm might have got there.
He was moving pretty quick.
Real speedster right there on second.
The pitch fouled off.
2-2 count.
Wave McLean to get back in front on the count.
Watching Palm on second, don't want him to steal third.
He's shortening up his lead a little bit, so he should be good.
Both Keel and Daniel swings a little behind on the pitch.
I'm looking to see a little fastball.
try to keep him at bay.
Pitch.
Oh.
Hey, strike three.
Fooled us for a second.
Thought it was an outside ball, but it got right in the box.
Strike three out one for McLean.
Count of zero, zero.
One out in the top of the first.
Runner on second.
Next up, number 17, Casey Marinack, center field.
Clayne with the first pitch, a little inside on the right-handed batter called ball.
One-o count.
pitch up and it is just fouled out right outside of the third base one one count good pitch by mcclain
the pitch high and inside ball two two and one looked like mclean didn't have all that but
he should look to get back in the count palm saying staying steady at second base not taking any two big leads
and the ball is
there it is
pitch right down the middle
ball hit right to the third baseman
easy catch and throw out at first
that brings us to two outs top
of the first runner on second
with a smart heads-up play there
keeping palm on second base
before he made the throw over to first base
yep McLean looking good
in his first start
he's usually a clean-up pitcher
but they threw him out here
this morning
this afternoon, I guess.
Pitch.
And it is grounded right down the middle.
Shortstop grabs it and makes the throw to first base.
That is the third out of the top of the first.
Switching over to Chargers bats.

Anchorage, Alaska was founded in 1915 as a temporary city when construction on the Alaska Railroad began.
Since then, it has become the home to more than 40 percent of the state's population,
and is equidistant from Tokyo, New York City, and the North Pole.
The name Anchorage comes from the term Anchorage,
which means an area that is suitable as a safe harbor for ships.
Pre-1915, locals refer to the area as Nick Anchorage
because it was a safe place for boats to land coming to and from the now-abandoned town of Nick.
After it became an official city, residents held a vote to rename the area.
Anchorage actually came in third place behind Alaska City and Lane,
but the Postal Service and other government agencies decided for them
when they never changed the city's name in their systems.
Now, Anchorage remains true to its meaning,
as it's still a safe harbor for ships and cargo planes seeking fuel alike.
I'm Megan Pitcock, and this is What's in the Name,
on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
And we are back. Hillsdale Charger Baseball, bottom of the first,
and first batter just got walked.
Sorry to miss that.
4-1 count and batter
heads to first.
That is number 16.
Guard Swenson, our center fielder, on first now.
Next up to bat, number 32,
Rocco Tanuda, third baseman.
Guard coming off a really good second game
on Friday against the Oilers
with a really nice play out in center field
late in the game to seal the victory.
See if we can keep this going into today's matchup.
First pitch.
And strike.
Just got in there.
Now, Finley's starting pitcher today.
Aidan Kiesling, a right-handed pitcher from down the road into Fiance, Ohio.
Coming in with a 6.08 ERA.
Swenson grabbing a lead at first.
The pitch.
And it is grounded, but just fouled out, just outside of the third baseman.
O2 count.
Bottom of the second, no outs.
Bottom of the first, no outs.
Although Keesling's ERA is not the best on their team,
his batting average of his opponents is pretty good i'm guessing that's why he's starting up today
just tends to give up some big hits hopefully the chargers can get one here today pitch and fouled off
another strike uh to new day to live for one more and uh roco is one of our good hitters with a
point well one of our many good hitters with a point three one four batting average coming into the day
Swenson still grabbing a lead
and he tries the pickoff
but Swenson gets back in time
smart play by the pitcher but just couldn't get him
O2 count
and the pitch is grounded but fouled off
just outside of the third base once again
Tenoed is getting in front of it
got to grab one
way to stay alive
O2 count has fouled off two now
pitcher's eye in the first base
in the pitch
and he goes swinging.
Might have been a ball a little outside.
Looks like he fouled him off, though.
That was close.
Pitcher had the batter
swinging at a little ball outside,
but he just got tip of it.
Stay alive.
O2 count.
Swenson's still grabbing a lead.
And the pitch is fouled off.
Way outside, pulled it a little bit.
He stays alive, though.
O2 count, zero outs.
That ball was cool.
crunched. Too bad it just pulled it
way left of the foul pole.
Hopefully we can straighten that one out
because that one was over the fence.
Tenuda has been ahead of all these
pitches. Maybe look for a little
change up. And the pitch
swing just missed it.
Pitch right down the middle. Couldn't get a hand in it.
First out of the inning.
That was the second pitch in that at bat where the catcher
did not, was not able to complete the process
of the catch there. First one was on a
low foul ball by Tanuda, but that
and Rocco didn't even quite touch it.
So that might be something that the charge you have to look out for in the future.
Absolutely.
You could steal some, snag some bases with the catcher keeps dropping these.
Number 33, Will Lehman.
And the catcher tries to pick off again, just couldn't get him.
Swenson's being smart out there at first, getting a good lead, but getting back in time.
Back to the batter, number 33, Will Lehman, first baseman.
He's got a good bat on him.
There it is.
And the ball, ball is thrown high inside for a ball, and Swenson takes first and grabs it.
Throws a little high from the catcher.
Second base couldn't quite handle it in, but the center fielder had him on the backup.
Swenson now on second, 1-0 count, one out.
Guard with a nice jump on that one.
I was able to make it second pretty easily.
He's been looking for that steel, had a big lead, had two failed pickoff attempts.
good catch on that pitch on that jump second pitch just inside layman got caught looking one-one
count not a bad take a little inside but still call a strike swenson's still looking to get
a distance away from second base oh another strike call real inside layman looking one two count
Hopefully he can get a hold of one of these, but both those strike calls have been a little bit inside.
Pitcher looking back at second.
Pitch comes and way outside.
Ball two.
Two-two count.
Swenson on second, one out, bottom of the first.
Pitch.
And Lehman fouls it off.
Good pitch down the middle.
Layman was able to get a piece of that one.
Still, two-two count.
Good fight to stay alive there by Lehman.
It's our heavy bat first baseman.
0.270 batting average coming into the day.
And the pitch, and he gets some swinging.
Strike three for Kiesling.
That'll leave us with two outs for the Hillsdale Chargers
in the bottom of the first.
Now our cleanup coming in.
Ryan, Weehe, our catcher.
Number 26 from Cleveland, Ohio.
Looking to bring us home with a runner on second.
Weehee coming in with a 0.22.2.
two batting average.
Two home runs as well.
And the pitch,
ah, just got him swinging a little outside,
but Wehee chased it.
O-1 count.
Runner's still on second.
Swenson still getting his lead.
Kiesling with two strikeouts so far this inning.
The pitch fouled off.
Weehe stays alive.
O-2 count.
Fowls off that ball just inside the box.
Besides the first at bat,
at keesling walks guard swenson he's been dealing pretty good and already in a favorable count here for the oilers
keesling looking back at second swenson with a large lead and the pitch is low called ball one two count
two outs runner on second keesling has some pitches to spare with a one two count hoping to get his
third strike out of the inning and weehe looking to get on base for the chargers
The pitch.
Ah, get some chasing.
Almost looked like a drop third, but they call them strike three,
and that'll end the inning for the Hillsdale Chargers.
You are listening to Chargers Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
We will get you back in the top of the second,
when the Oilers take the back.

Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and as I recently had to confess, I'm the one that barged in while my roommate was
sleeping, talking to myself, slamming the door, and turning on all the overhead lights.
Even worse than my complete lack of situational awareness was the grammar of that previous sentence,
but it's kind of hard to spot, so let's rewind.
I'm the one that barged in.
Did you spot it this time?
If you pointed at that, you're right.
Unless I'm an AI or something not alive, who is preferred to that when referring to a person?
Keyword person.
Don't use who for animals, no matter how many thousands of dollars, you're not.
spent on their food. This rule gets tricky when you're referring to groups of people, like
sports team. When in doubt, I vote for using who, even if the subject is a reference to people
and not actually a person. That's your Grammar Minute. Visit thegrammerminant.com for more
tips and tricks. And welcome back. We are at the top of the second inning. Still a zero-zero
ballgame. One hit for Finley, zero errors for either team.
Keyesling, Finley's pitcher just came off a good inning with three strikeouts.
Now McLean back up to pitch against.
And first pitch is a strike.
Looked a low, but called a strike 0.1 count.
The batter, number 22, Gavin Smith, first baseman for the Finley Oilers.
Smith comes in with a 0.287 batting average.
And the ball is hit to right field and right over his head as 22 takes first.
going second. Smith might go
three. The throw comes into the shortstop.
Smith slides.
And he is safe at three.
Smith with a triple.
Line drive right over the
right fielder's head. What a hit.
McLean. Good pitch,
but Smith just got a hold of that one.
Slightly misjudged over there by the right
fielder Tyler turning.
Turner came in just a little too much.
Ball sailed just over his head.
Thankfully, the center fielder guard was able to
get over there and help it and make sure that it didn't get too far out of hand.
Great relay by the Chargers.
Way to make up for what looked like a lost playing.
Keep it manageable.
Now up to bat.
Number 12, Mason Myers, left fielder for the Oilers.
McLean with the pitch.
Oh, that one looked down the middle, but it's called ball.
1-0 count.
Got Smith on third, zero outs.
McLean with the pitch, and that is way inside.
Two-0 count for McLean.
Meyer's sitting well with a 2-0 count.
Looking to drive his guy in on third.
The pitch.
And another inside ball.
3-0 count.
McLean's got to take a second and get composed.
3-0 count.
After that big hit, still zero-outs.
Runner on third.
Isn't able to find the zone on that one.
4-0, and that's a walk.
Runners on first and third.
Zero outs, top of the second.
Four straight balls from McLean.
but he'll be able to bounce back.
He's a good pitcher.
He's just got to stay composed.
Now, number six, Isaac Ramos,
the catcher for the Oilers.
Up to bat.
Runners on first and third, zero outs.
The pitch, and the throw,
and he is safe.
Myers steals second.
Catcher, not able to gun him down.
That first pitch.
He'll do a throw by the kicker on the ball there.
Oh, strike actually called.
Good play by the Chargers.
Just had a better jump by the base runner.
First pitch is a strike, 0-1 count.
Runner stole second, runners on second and third.
Second pitch comes in.
A little low and outside.
Ball, one-one count.
Runners on second and third, zero outs.
That strike, Meyer's had, or that Steele Myers had a good jump,
and we just couldn't gun them down.
Great throw by the catcher, good catch by the shortstop,
just couldn't get there in time.
The third pitch, and it is got by number six.
Center fielders running for it, and it bounces and goes over the fence.
That is a ruled double.
Ramos got a hold of it and launched it to center field.
Couldn't quite get it out, but it did take a bounce over the fence.
That is ruled a double, and runners on second and third.
Make it home.
Two zero.
Oilers.
Three hits on the inning, two runs, and still zero.
out. Petra clean in his first start giving up a couple hits here. Hopefully he can settle down a little bit and get us out of this inning with minimal damage.
He had a really strong first inning, so we're still looking for something good out of him. He's a great pitcher, so we still have belief in him.
And five shows Bunt. Number five, Miles Sioritino shows Bunt on this first pitch, 1-0 count pulls back just in time.
The third basin with a point 229 batting average on the season.
Runner on second, 1-0 count, zero outs.
The pitch comes in and Cortino rips it to left, but just out of bounds, just out of foul.
Used to football, not out of bounds.
Yeah, that football mindset, we were thinking out of bounds, just out of play there.
Yeah.
Fowl ripped to left field, great contact, but couldn't get behind it just a little bit.
McLean 1-1-count zero-outs, run around second.
Third baseman for the Oilers looking to get a hold of another one.
And McLean throws it to second.
McLean tries to get the pick-off at second and throws it just a little high,
rolling to the center fielder, and Ramos gets third.
Yeah, it was just a little unfortunate placement there by McLean.
It was high and away, or high and behind our second baseman, Billy there,
coming in to try to make a play.
Just couldn't quite get there.
Good play by guard to catch us in center field and get the ball back in,
so we only had the runner steal third.
And a grounder to third baseman throws, and he is out at first.
Way to get the first out of the inning.
A good pitch by McLean and good clean play by the third basement all the way to the first.
Another good play at Rocco, making sure he holds a third-based runner at third
before he can advance home and make the throw over to first base.
We're looking at the top of the second one out runner on third.
First pitch, a little high-end side for ball.
Number 13, Drew Tucker, the second baseman for the Oilers, up to bat.
He is ninth in the inning, so next up will be Nick Palm again.
And the pitch, and he gets them swinging.
Pitch is a little outside the zone, but he got him swinging.
Great pitch by McLean.
One-one count with one out on.
the inning. The pitch, and that is fouled out, high and right, and just outside of the stadium.
First baseman was looking to make a play on it, but it got just outside. One ball, two strikes,
one two count. Tucker looking to stay alive. McLean looking to get him out. Runner's still on third,
one out on the inning. And the pitch, and that is high. Two-two count. Ball a little bit high,
but McLean is still ahead
so he should be sitting well
this next pitch
popped up to right field
and the right field gets under it
makes a great catch
throws it in runner from third
takes it off and he makes it safe
Ramos on third makes it safe home
but the right fielder still got the out
on that two outs
third run of the inning scored by the
Oilers
good hustle and good catch over there by Tyler
Turner just a little far
to get the runner tagging up from third.
That is good tag by Ramos in for the third run of the inning.
Now we have two outs, top of the second.
Up to bat again is Nick Palm, shortstop for the Oilers.
And Palm with the pitch, grounds it right to first, makes the play,
tags them out.
That is the end of the top of the second.
You're listening to Chargers Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM,
and we will be right back with you in the bottom of the second.

Perfect.
Brian Holkren, Fox News.
We are
back at the bottom of the second inning
with the Oilers versus Chargers.
Kiesling coming off of the great first inning,
one walk, and then three consecutive strikeouts.
Up to bat is number 21 for the Chargers.
Tyler Sowers, or left fielder.
He'll be up in about 40 seconds.
It was a really nice defensive finish there
for the Chargers after a couple of missed queues early.
Able to get a couple outs really quick there to end the inning
and keep the runs.
damage to only three after a couple nice hits by the oilers early.
Now up to bat is Sowers, looking to get us on the board.
Let's go Chargers.
Kiesling, first pitch is grounded to third.
Third baseman makes a catch, the throw, and he is just out.
Sowers is a speedster running down the first baseman line, but just couldn't make it in time.
That is out one for the Chargers of this.
Great play by the third.
Baseman, Seoratino, to make a good throw to the first baseman.
Now, number 25, Carson Tucker, our designated hitter today.
The pitch, ooh, a little inside, but called a strike.
O-1 count.
Good take for Tucker.
Definitely want to see what you're hitting.
Second pitch, low and outside.
That's a ball.
1-1 count.
Kiesling couldn't hold on to that one.
Catcher again with his third drop of the day.
Could look for that to be some steals once the charges get
on base. Third pitch for Keesling, framed inside, strike two. Looking at a one-two count right now.
I still say good take by Tucker. Definitely got to, you got to like what you see before you swing.
Just got him there. Tucker got out swinging strike three, and that is two outs on the inning for the
charges. Keesling looking great out there on the mound. Very quickly after just four
pitches, charges already have two outs on this bottom half of the inning. Hopefully Tyler can
something going with the bats.
Yep, that's number 23. Tyler Turner,
Chargers right fielder for today.
In Kiesling, with four strikeouts already in this game.
The first pitch,
wanted to swing at it, but held back, and that's called strike one.
O one count for Turner.
Looking to get on base here.
Pitch, and fouled off by Turner.
O2 count.
that one was a little inside just got a piece of it launched it back at the back net keesling ahead with an oh two count right now
keesling looking for his fifth strikeout already in two innings and the pitch is fouled up going right and just outside of the stadium
the first baseman was looking to make a play on that but turner stayed alive oh two count two outs bottom of the second
hopefully Tyler can barrel this one up a little bit more square
get this ball in play and uses speed to get on first for us.
Yep. Looking to choke up on the bat. Just get on base. That's all we need.
And the pitch is low. Ball 1. And the catcher could not hold onto that one either.
One two count, two outs. The pitch, and he got him swinging. Strike three. Three outs on the
inning. That is Keesling's fifth strike out of the game in just two innings.
Very quick inning for the Chargers on offense.
Now we are two innings in.
The Oilers are up.
Three Chargers still looking to get on the board.
Oilers with three nice hits.
One of those being from Ramos.
And one from Gavin Smith there, the first baseman.
Gavin Smith with the big triple to start the Oilers out in the top of the second.
Now the Chargers back up pitching McLean
Has it had a pretty good day so far
Great first inning
Let a few get away from him in the second
But he's looking to bounce back
Again, one of the great pitchers on this Hillsdale Charger roster
With lots of support from his infield and outfield
Great roster coming into the event
The defense has been able to make a couple of good plays here
As long as the ball stayed on the ground
Hopefully this inning McLean can
throw some favorable pitches and get the bats of the oilers to put the ball on the ground
and let the charge of defense make a play.
Again, McLean, a great pitcher.
He is at 28 strikeouts on the year coming into this game.
And we're looking for a lot more of that.
Definitely need to get the batterers out before they can make contact with that ball.
Chargers only looking at one error so far.
Hopefully we can keep it that way.
McLean, again, great pitch.
Let's try and get some strikeouts here.
Up to bat.
Number two, Keelan Daniel for the Oilers.
The first pitch, low and outside.
Ball one, counts going to be 1-0.
McLean tried to get him swinging.
Just couldn't make him chase.
Second pitch, that one looked like a beauty,
but called a ball just outside.
2-0 count.
Homeplayed umpire, I like to take his
a little bit more time before he makes his call,
so we're always on the edge of our seats,
those close ones. Absolutely. Another ball way high on that one. 3-0 count. McLean's need to slow down a little bit.
3-0 pitch and that is way inside, almost hitting the batter. Look like it took a bad bounce on
somebody. I think it might have been off the umpire's right leg there. Yeah, Bell's checking his right
shin. Hopefully he's all right. Took a rough hit there, but that'll send a runner to first with zero
out and McLean's second walk.
Now coming in, number 17, Casey Marinack.
The pitch, and that is right down the middle.
Strike one.
Great pitch by McLean.
You'd like him to watch first, Daniel, with a large lead.
And pitch, safe.
Low pitch called ball one as Daniel takes second.
Great lead off by Daniel, great jump.
The catcher got the ball.
Quick opt time.
Great throw.
Just couldn't get there in time.
Close call.
Catcher looking for an out on that, but
ump calls him safe.
That puts Daniel on second.
1-1 count, zero outs.
That one was pretty closer.
I thought we might have got the tag there,
but must have just barely slid around that.
The pitch is got a hold of it,
but fouled it off just outside of third base.
That'll bring us to a 1-2 count.
Very favorable for McLean with a runner on second.
Daniel on second, still looking to take a big lead.
The one two count.
McLean with a low pitch, he was a little bit worried about Daniel on second,
probably got away from him a little bit.
Two-two count.
Comfortable with sitting and watching pitches.
Let's see if McLean can take advantage of that.
And that is inside and bounces off his elbow, hit the runner.
Runner 2 first.
We got runners on first and second, still zero outs on the inning.
and the catcher goes up to talk to McLean.
There's a little bit of this is just coming from McLean's first start
rather than being our relief pitcher here.
Clearly he has the talent and some incredible pitching abilities,
hoping he can just settle in a little bit more in his first start
and keep the ball over the plate and let a defense make some plays behind him.
Yeah, and our catcher, Ryan Weehee, one of the leaders on this team,
probably just telling them, hey man, calm down.
It's your first start.
You're a great pitcher.
Let's use your talent.
Now the Oilers, cleanup hitter number 15.
Luke Senton, our designated hitter.
No outs.
Runers on first and second.
Hopefully, chargers can maybe turn a double play here.
And the first pitch is a little high and outside.
Ball 1.10 count, zero outs.
Runners on first and second.
We're looking at the top of the third inning.
And the throw to second base.
McLean saw Daniel's taking a big lead,
decided to throw it back to the second baseman.
No harm, no foul.
Complete catch, and Daniels got back in time.
Now McLean looks to reset on the mound.
1-0 count.
Oilers up 3-0.0.0.0.0.
Just trying to keep Daniel honest there.
For sure.
And that is strike 1.
1-1 count.
Daniel's still looking to take a big lead.
That's why McLean had to throw it back there.
Might look at another pickoff attempt.
McLean looks back, the pitch.
And it is ripped by number 15 down to center field.
Does he have it?
And a catch.
And the center fielder throws it into the shortstop,
but cannot get the runner on second and time.
Daniels goes from second to third on that tagoff,
but runner on first stays.
First out of the inning for the Chargers,
running on first and third.
Senton got a hold of that one but just couldn't hit it quite far enough and popped out to the center fielder.
Guard Swenson with a great play on that and a great throw into the cutoff.
A base runner on the corner here.
Most likely expecting an attempt to second base here by Mary Neck.
We'll see if they make this throw considering Daniels a fast runner might take home.
Big lead.
And a swing and a miss.
Strike one.
one count for Gavin Smith up to bait that the first baseman with a triple in the first inning or the second inning excuse me
dangerous hitter up but mclean knows he can take him one out oh one count and that is fouled off oh two count
run around first looked like he was going but he pulled back just in time very aggressive secondary lead
there wondering if that was just to get something to get the pitcher to think about him or if he was
actually contemplating probably not going to run
here with an 02 count. Don't want to risk a ball in the air. Smith, a dangerous bat, but down in the
count. And the runner takes second, and he holds. Catcher holds, lets him take second. Runners on second and
third. Ball outside, one two count. I assumed that was coached up to take the pitch no matter what
and let the guy move to second. Got lucky with the ball. And he pitch in strike three. Smith gets
caught swinging second out of the inning for the Hillsdale Chargers.
and a strikeout for McLean.
Runners on second and third, two outs, top of the third.
Clean with a nice pitch there, able to get the second out of the inning.
Hopefully we can finish up, even though they've got runners at second and third,
we can get away with no runs scored as long as he continues to do well.
And up-to-bat lefty Mason Myers for the Oilers.
And this first pitch is fouled off.
Almost went behind the net, behind the catchers.
Almost went over the net.
Good foul off, good pitch by McLean.
Way to stay alive, 0-1 count.
Left fielder for the Oilers, dangerous batter with a 301 batting average coming into the day.
And strike two catches them swinging.
Low pitch and Myers just could not get a hold of it.
O2 count with two outs.
McLean looking to end the inning here.
And they call a bulk on McLean sending runners to third and home.
That is another run for the Oilers.
Finley now up 4-0-0 after that bulk call.
Runner on third, still two outs, still 0-2 strike count.
And the coach has some questions for the official.
Looks like the coach is unsure on why that was a call.
Balt call.
Yeah, McLean was still looking in for the sign.
Looked like he'd just gotten in and was getting ready to get going.
Must have been something to tip the home plate umpire off.
And just like that, it is now four.
4-0 for the Oilers after the balk.
McLean's still looking to end the inning here.
Zero-two-count, two strikes on them.
The pitch and Myers stays alive, fouls that one off.
Good pitch by McLean, but Myers just got a hold of it.
Still, zero-two count with two outs.
The pitch, and that is low in inside.
Call ball one.
One-two count.
The ump took a second on that one.
You can never tell with these close calls.
One-two-count, two outs.
And the pitch is grounded right between second and first to the right fielder.
Runner from third goes home, and the right fielder catches it, throws it in.
Runner on first, that ups the score to 5-0.
Runner on first, two outs for the Chargers.
Chargers were looking like they were going to get into that inning with no damage
after a rough start with a walk and a hit by pitch.
But then after a balk and a good hit by the Oilers, all of a sudden it's 5-0.
Yeah, Myers was able just to sneak it between the first and second basement on that one.
And the pitch.
First pitch called a strike.
O-1 count.
Good comeback for McLean.
Up to bat, dangerous hitter, Isaac Ramos.
Myers still taking a big lead.
McLean is taking a little peek, but I think he's focused on the batter now.
Going.
And he takes off the catch, the throw, and he is called out.
Got him.
Great catch and throw.
great operation, great throw by Wehee to get that out on the steel.
Really nice play by the catcher there.
Able to end the inning on a high note and just get away with only two runs score.
Yeah, McLean, great pitcher.
Still his first start so you can expect some bumps,
but really not where you'd want to be for the Chargers,
looking to make a comeback with their big bats coming up.
Next up to bat is, yeah, looks like it's Billy Paroski.
Badder, second baseman, number 18.
279, batting average so far this season with two home runs.
Dangerous batter, and then after that, number nine, Eric Jossack.
Aaron Jaseek there, the shortstop.
Oh, JCP.
Apologize.
Shortstop, number nine, 282 batting average, one home run himself.
And then back up top to the starting batter, Swenson,
after that. So we're guaranteed three really good bats this inning. Kiesling, very strong
game so far. Five strikeouts and just two innings. Here in Jayzeek, both a pretty solid on-base
percentage, our middle infielder's there. Hopefully we can get some of our faster players on base
and some of our stronger hitters and guard and Raku Jununa to come up and hit him in.
That's what we're looking for to start off this inning from the Chargers here.
right-handed pitcher, Tiesling.
Definitely one to look out for.
He is a tough pitcher.
But the Chargers will look to take advantage of his abundant strike pitches.
Hopefully they can catch a few and get on base.
Now up to bat.
Second baseman, Billy Peroski.
Right-handed batter, Perotsky, looking to get on base for the Chargers.
Still zero hits so far for the Chargers.
First pitch comes in, and.
Paraski watches it.
O-1 count just inside the zone.
Looked a little low, but Paraski wanted to see it.
Next pitch, low again and outside of the zone this time, 1-1 count.
Paraski got a good eye looking for what he likes.
Another pitch, and Paraski fouls it off.
Over to the Oilers bench.
One-two count.
Paraski saw what he liked but just couldn't get a handle on it.
Geesling looking for his sixth strike out of the day.
And the pitch is high and outside.
The Oilers were looking for a strike, but it was called ball.
Two-two count.
Again, Perotsky with a great eye to stay tight and not swing at it.
And another pitch, high and outside.
Full count for Kiesling, his first of the day.
And Peroski with a great eye to let that one go.
We had a battle back there by Paraski to get it to a full count.
Absolutely.
Paraski with a great eye so far.
Three-two pitch, and Paraski swings.
looks like it was just fouled off way to stay alive on that one
it got a little nervous though there for a second I didn't know if he
quite tipped it or not and catcher dropped it so I was expecting a mad dash for
first but seems like he got a piece of it and there you go three two pitch high in
inside that'll send Parrotsky to first and his first walk of the day for
Kiesling way to get on base for Pirozky and our ninth hitter number nine
Aaron Jasek shortstop for the Chargers from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Looking to move Perotsky to second or further.
And a rip to third base, past the third baseman.
Runner goes to second to third.
And they stay put.
Runners on second and third after a writ past the third basement.
To the left fielder, couldn't get it in time to stop the double.
What a great start for the Chargers, a walk and a double.
Very well-hit ball by Aaron Jaceyak there, right down the left field line.
Third baseman couldn't quite get a glove on it.
And Billy, with his wheels, he's able to get to third, standing,
as well as Aaron getting the second with a standing double there.
And now we got our big bats up, top the lineup.
Guard Swenson with runners on second and third, looking to cut this lead.
Guard hit in his first plate appearance.
First pitch, low and outside.
One-0 count.
Keesling seems to be feeling the pressure now.
Two runners on base, zero outs.
And Swenson rips it right down the middle.
Sends one runner home.
Sends two runners home and they can't get it in on time.
Swenson with the singles sending two runners home.
Two runs on the board for the Chargers and one hit.
Just like that and not many pitches.
The Chargers already have two runs in the bottom of this third here.
Hopefully this can continue as Rocco comes up to bat.
This could be one of those struggles that Caden Kiesling has been facing this year with this high ERA.
He's been able to strike out a lot of our batters,
but if we're able to barrel up this ball like we have been in this inning,
we can see a game.
Get real close, really fast.
Absolutely.
Number 32, Rocco Tenoota back up to bat.
Big bat on him.
Runner on first.
First pitch is high.
Called a ball.
The Chargers already with two runs.
and two hits in this inning looking to continue their streak.
Zero out so far in a 1-0 count.
Swenson getting his lead on first.
The pitch and called a strike.
Little inside, but just caught the box.
1-1 count for the charges.
Tanuda looking to keep the streak of hits going.
And the pitch, and Tanuta rips it,
but just outside of the third base.
Called foul.
Tanuta really got a hold of that one.
Line drive, looking to go left field,
but just couldn't stay in.
One two count for Tenoota.
Runners on first, still zero outs.
And that ball was really close to hitting that line there over just past the third base bag.
I thought maybe he was going to sneak in there and touch some white paint.
One two count for Tenoota.
And the pitch, and he gets a hold of it.
And it drops right in front of the left fielder.
Another hit for the chargers with a runner on first and second.
Still zero outs on the inning.
Way to get on.
base.
Really nice hit there by Rocco, low breaking ball, trying to get him to chase.
He was able to reach his bat out there, poke it right over shortstop's head and short of the
left fielder.
Looks like the oilers are coming together on the pitcher's mound and have a little discussion.
After a great start for Kiesling, he has now led up three hits and two runs in this
area.
Coach had some words for him.
It doesn't look like anyone's coming from the bullpen.
What, yeah.
He just wanted to give his pitcher a second to take a breath.
and refocus before they go in and go at Will Lehman here,
who's hoping to continue this as we've got runners on first and second,
with no outs.
So the tying run is now at the plate.
Absolutely.
Layman, another great hitter for the Chargers, number 33, our first basement.
Layman coming into the day has a 270 batting average and three home runs.
to drive our guys on first and second home geeseling after the meeting about to deliver the first
pitch and that is called a ball high and inside one o count a little close there we're waiting again for
the ump to make his call it was kind of right on that edge weren't quite sure if it was going to be ball or
strike but it was called ball huge lead for the for a tuna at first and that pitch is swung at but caught
a little bit of a foul one one count looked like he was a
he missed it, was wondering why the runners weren't running, but it was foul-tipped.
Big lead at first for Tanuta.
Decent lead for Swenson at second.
Looking to move the batters.
Looking to move the runners.
Lehman at bat.
Pitcher looks back to second, delivers the pitch, and a bunt for Lehman.
Picked up by the third baseman, thrown out at first, but he advances the runners to second and third.
Smart play by the Chargers here.
Lehman sacrifices his own ability to get on base.
to move the runners to second and third.
Now we got two in scoring position with our cleanup, Ryan Wehee up to bat, number 26.
Isn't that's just something you don't expect as the Oilers defense there?
You got a big first baseman, third hitter.
You're expecting a power hit trying to get both runners maybe one to score,
maybe get Rocco over there to third, but instead he lays down the bun
and they're able to get both runners now in scoring position as our catcher Ryan Weehee comes up to that bat.
Smart play by the Chargers, only one out.
Wehee up. Watches the first pitch get called ball.
Low.
1-0 count.
Runners on second and third.
Only one out in the bottom of the third.
Two runs for the charges so far this inning.
Huge lead on second in the pitch.
And Weehe sends it up.
Center field sitting right under it.
And he makes a catch and they send the runner from third.
And he gets there.
Number 16, Swenson tags on third.
makes it home after a sack fly from Wehee.
Runner, still on second.
Tenoota did not feel like going to third.
Probably held there by the coach, smart decision.
Now up number 21, Tyler Sowers with two outs on the inning
and three hits and three runs for the Chargers.
Sowers looking to continue a strong inning.
Kiesling looking to get his flow back.
First pitch right down the middle.
Sowers didn't like it.
He didn't swing.
Good eye on him, but 0.1 count to start.
start it. Sowers for sure looking to drive in.
Tanuda on second. And the pickoff attempt and he misses.
Ball goes past the shortstop. Center field catches it and Tanuda gets to third.
That is the first error for the Oilers on the day and the second miss pickoff attempt by both teams total.
Tanuta now on second. Sowers doing a little more pressure to get the guy on third home.
Yeah, another missed pickoff attempts in today's game, one by each team now.
This one a little different as he was throwing more to the left side of the bag and just wasn't able to quite corral it.
Oh, Sowers with a tough swing, but a strike.
Couldn't quite get a hold of that one.
If he did, it might have been gone.
That was a big cut by Sowers there.
One two count for a Kiesling, looking to get another strike out on the day.
Runner on third, two outs.
And the pitch high.
Good take by Sowers, ball two, two, two count now.
The pitch and fouled off by Sowers.
Way to stay alive, still two-two count.
Sowers trying to battle, stay alive,
keep the hopes of getting Rocco Tunauna in on a hit here
as he continues to battle against Kiesling here.
Kiesling looking for his sixth strikeout, I believe, on the day.
Sauer's looking to continue this run for the Chargers.
And he grabs a hold of it, rips it right down the middle,
between the second and shortstop, driving Tenoota home, and Kiesling.
Grabs first, the fourth run-up for the Chargers this inning.
Way to rally back for the boys.
Now up, heavy bat, designated hitter.
Number 25, Carson Tucker.
Very hard hit ball there.
Just left to the pitcher's mound there,
but the shortstop was playing pretty far to the left.
I wasn't able to be in a position to make a play there.
I'm guessing they were anticipating a little bit more of pull.
Seems to be a lot of times their infield is shifted over to the left.
You get the left field really close to third and the second base really close to second base.
The first pitch comes in and Tucker fouls it off.
Out of the stadium.
Tucker, great bad is the designated hitter today.
We got runners on first Tyler Sowers with a one-two count was able to pull it out with the grounder.
And the pitch, another one fouled off to the right side.
Tucker seems to be behind it a little bit on those first two pitches.
Kiesling looking to get his sixth strike out of the day.
Tucker looking to continue the great inning for the Chargers.
So far four hits and four runs at the bottom of the third for the Chargers.
Sowers with a lead on first.
And he throws and he caught him sleeping and the first baseman is able to run him down.
Sowers didn't seem ready for that.
Had a large lead, the pitcher threw it.
Sowers took off for a second and got hawked down by the first baseman.
Not how you'd like to end that bottom of the third inning,
but the Chargers still with four runs.
Now, you are listening to Chargers baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.

And we are back with Chargers baseball. Top of the fourth inning coming in with a one-one count
for McLean, zero outs on the inning. Oilers, after letting up four hits and four run.
are looking to maintain their lead.
And the pitch, number six, Ramos, rips it to left field,
but we make the play.
Out. Tyler Sowers, tracks it down and catches it
for the first out of the inning for the Hillsdale Chargers.
Real nice start year to the fourth inning for the Chargers.
After a great at bat in the bottom of the third,
getting a quick out and giving Patrick a little bit of confidence
as he tries to recover from those rough back-to-back innings
there in the second and the third. Absolutely.
A very talented picture looking
to hold the Oilers to no more.
First pitch down the middle
but called a ball. Number
five, C-R-T-O.
Wanted it, but did not
swing. Smart look.
It was called ball. One-0 count to start.
Pitch coming in a little
low, 2-0 count for McLean.
One out on the inning.
And another ball for
McLean. 3-0-Kout.
count. Seorotnio, Seorotnio, looking to take this pitch probably with the 3-0 count.
That is right down the middle, called a strike. Smart take by the batter, though.
3-0 count. After that strike, it is now 3-1. The pitch, and called another strike.
The batter wanted to throw his bat out and take first, but the ump told him it was a strike.
Great pitch by McLean, just got in the box.
Full count now.
Three, two, one out in the inning.
And the pitch just inside.
Couldn't keep them going.
That's ball for it.
And Seornton O'n will take first.
Now up to bat, number 13.
Drew Tucker, second baseman for the Oilers.
McLean was battling back, but just couldn't hold him off.
Sending one to first with another walk.
Still, one out on the inning.
And the pitch, a little bit inside called ball one.
You'd think McLean would be looking at first still be big leads taken from the runners lots of steals today for the Oilers
He's going and he takes first and the throw is low but can't get there in time
Great throw by Weehe great catch by the second baseman but just couldn't snag him in time and that is another stolen base
Runner on second two-oh counts
they were trying to see if Tucker had swung on that one
but it looks like they said he held off
2 o count
McLean shouldn't have to worry about the runner anymore at second
and focus on this batter
and the pitch and fouled off
great pitch by McLean Tucker just got a piece of it
and fouled it off
as a pitcher it's really a mind game when you have a runner on first
because there's always that threat to second
but now with the runner on second
not likely to steal third.
You can focus on the batter here.
Get some strikes down.
It looks like on the steel attempt,
the home plate empire actually called that a strike.
So it's a one-two count as balls popped up
and over behind the press box for a foul ball.
Another foul for Tucker.
That means that was two fouls with two strikes,
which means he's still fighting off these strikes for McLean.
This gives McLean a little bit more wiggle room
with one of those balls actually ending up being a.
strike you got to feel a little bit more comfortable Tucker trying to stay in here with a one-two
count and he sends one up to the first baseman and he catches it that is two outs on the inning
great way for McLean to rally back get another out for the on the oilers Tucker just got under it
and sent it straight up to the first baseman couldn't foul that one off or get that one in play
Now up to bat for the third time today.
Number seven, Nick Palm, shortstop for the Oilers.
McLean looking to end the inning here with two outs.
Runner on second.
Oh, the first pitch, he swung.
But it looked like he also got hit.
A little foul ball right off the foot there.
So that one's not going to feel good.
And it's going to be a strike.
That's a double whammy there for Palm.
He's going to be hurting a little bit right there.
Confusing looking play.
Palm looks to be.
be in pain. I'm sure that right foot isn't feeling too great right now. That'll bring us to an
0-1 count, one strike. Still, run around second and two outs. Taking a quick breath, making sure
Palm's all right, able to keep going. He's trying to walk it off, flexing that leg a little bit
as the chargers are itching to try to end this inning here. Absolutely. And Palm is a great hitter.
lots of power and speed on that ball and right down to his foot can't feel good but he knows he needs to stay in this game
palm taking the box again tough player the 0-1 count for mclean and that is a ball outside ball one
one-one count with two outs guy on second starting to take a bigger lead getting a little greedy
McLean doesn't seem too worried about him
focused on the batter and
Fowled off
Palm got a little piece of that and sent it out of the stadium
Pass the left
left side
Staying alive the one two count
McLean should be feeling good now with
head in the count
Chargers are still holding on to their one-run lead
after a really great at that
in the bottom of the third
And the pitch just outside.
They wanted a strike call just outside.
2-2 count.
McLean looking to, or Palm looking to stay alive here.
McLean looking to end the inning.
And Palm catches a little bit of it.
Center fielder backing up and he makes the play.
Palm, got a hold of that one, but ended up right into Swenson's lap.
Great play by the center.
fielder and way to get out of that inning for McLean.
Really good back-to-back half innings there by the Chargers.
Starting in the bottom of the third, lots of really nice hits,
really nice way to get guys in scoring position and deliver, get them across the plate.
And then coming back in the top of the fourth there with a really nice performance by McLean,
letting his defense make plays for him and allow him to get away with no damage done.
It's still five to four boilers up.
Absolutely.
After three and a half, both teams with four.
hits. Both pitchers had a little rough stretch, but overall are looking pretty good.
The errors on both team seem to be their pickoff attempts at second base, one for each.
Wonder and if that's keeping them at bay from trying again or if they're going to try to convert
again in the future. Yeah, looking at that, you look to see more bigger leadoffs on second
base considering two errors so far maybe hoping the pitchers won't attempt again but the charges are
looking to extend their scoring streak four runs in one inning only down by one so far looking to
come back in the first of two games today don't forget at the end of last inning
uh Tucker Tucker uh Tucker up to
Sauer's thrown out at the end of last inning.
Tucker did not finish his at-bat, so he is up now again, the heavy-handed, designated hitter.
Kiesling, first pitch called strike.
O-1 count. Tucker, waiting to see what he likes.
Good take, but called a strike.
And that next one way outside, one-one-count, looked almost like Kiesling lost control of that one.
Next pitch, grounded to the third baseman, and he is thrown out.
Nice play there by the third baseman able to get over there in front of the shortstop field at glove side
Couldn't quite beat out the throw there and that is the first out of the inning for the oilers
Kisling with a good at or a good pitch showing after a rough hit now
Number 23 Tyler Turner up to bat looking to make something happen for the chargers and Turner rips it down the middle but it bounces off the mound slow
the ball down and the shortstop makes the play to the first basement. That is the second out of the
inning. That was just, that was just tough there for Tyler. Dibble to barrel up that first
pitch, sees one he likes and just get slowed up by the mound there unless the shortstop
make a play on it. Now up to bat number 18, Billy Perotsky, looking to get on bat or get on base
after two outs for the Chargers. Takes the first one high, one O count.
Paraski not looking to get out quick like the other two.
And the second pitch, oh, that one looked a little outside, but called strike one one count.
Good take Paratsky.
Again, he has a great eye so far this game.
Paraski showed bunt but pulled back, but still called a strike.
Just got in the box, but he didn't like what he saw with the bunt there.
One two count.
You look for him to just swing now.
Kiesling with a great inning.
so far. And the pitch is low. Another drop for the catcher. There's been a lot of those today.
Maybe that could attribute to some steals later in the game, but not right now with no runners on base.
2-2 count, two outs in the bottom of the fourth. And that one is way outside. Ball three and a full
count now for Paroxi. Looking to get on base. Three-two pitch, and Paraski gets a tiny piece of it,
dropped right in front of the catcher, but he makes the throw to first,
and that will be three outs in this inning.

After four, we're looking at Oilers, five, Chargers, four, both with four hits and one error.
Both teams still have their starting pitcher in for the Chargers.
That's Patrick McLean, number 42.
Had a great start in the first inning, rough stretch between two and three, and then again,
pulled back for the fourth inning to play like the player he is.
Great pitcher he is.
Keeling Daniel looking to start it off for the Oilers here
their right fielder
and number two hitter
up to bat Daniels for the Oilers
got on base
last at bat
stole a few bases
first pitch
first pitch called strike
Daniel wanted it but pulled back
0 1 count
Daniel wanted to swing on that one but didn't like what he saw
still called a strike
Drake just got in the zone.
And Daniel rips it.
Makes contact, but way out left for a foul.
O2 count, great start for McLean.
Way to get ahead in the count.
Daniel with a 3-1-9 batting average coming to the game.
Definitely a dangerous bat.
And the pitch?
Just outside.
Called a ball.
Good take by Daniel, good eye.
McLean, good ball.
Close to the zone.
One-two count.
He was looking for that quick little three-pitch.
inning or start to the inning there but didn't quite get that last strike and another one fouled off
got way under it fouled it right behind the net or right behind the catcher one two count daniel stays
alive mccleine looking to end this batter quickly and the one two pitch a little low just outside of
the zone you're looking at a two two count first batter of the inning zero outs
Daniel with a good take.
And the 2-2 pitch, and Daniel rips it right over the first baseman's head.
Right-fielder running it down.
Daniel goes to second.
Right-fielder Tyler Turner throws it into our second baseman, gets it in before Daniel can turn the corner again.
Daniel on the 2-2 count with a double.
Very hard hit ball there over the first baseman's head.
I wasn't able to quite make a play a little bit too high up there for him.
Tyler Turner there to keep it to just a double.
McLean with a good pitch, but Daniel got a hold of it.
He's a dangerous runner.
Very fast, very aggressive, definitely a guy as the charges you don't want on base.
Next up to hit is Casey Maruniak.
McLean with the first pitch, and that is way inside.
1-0 count to start the second batter off.
Daniel on second with a big lead,
and McLean goes for the pick-off attempt.
but Daniel makes it back in time.
Good throw this time, no error, safe throw.
No harm, no foul on that one.
Just keeping Daniel humble with a large lead he had before.
McLean looking to get one against Maruniac with a 1-0 count right now.
Daniel with a short and lean that before.
The 1-0 pitch and Maruniac gets a hold of it,
but Guard Swenson makes the catch.
Daniel tags.
throw comes in and gets there
just before the throw got there.
Safe.
Daniel on third.
Great tag and run, but great play by Swenson.
Good throw just couldn't make it there in time.
I thought for a second the way the ball came out of Gar's hand,
I thought we had a chance there at third.
But Daniel with some pretty nice wheels,
was able to get to third and get under the tag.
Daniel's fast runner, Swenson's a great throw.
It was really up in the air.
First out of the inning.
Number 15. Luke Settin' up.
And the first pitch is high and outside.
Called ball one, one o count, one out on the inning.
Daniel on third, second pitch, low and inside.
Second ball of the batter.
Two-0 count, one out.
We're looking at the top of the fifth inning.
Oilers leading the chargers five to four.
Still got a runner on third.
Sent in the clean-off, looking to take Daniel.
home and the third pitch called a strike just got in the zone senton got caught looking
two one count and the two one pitch and sent and rips it to the second baseman make sure yeah
great play by the second baseman uh billy parosky held the runner at third and then made the
play at first second out of the inning for the chargers the charges the charges were all playing
nice and tight on the infield there making sure just in case the situation like that happened
A quick ground ball to second base allowed them to keep Daniels at third,
despite his ability to run, and they're able to still get the out and keep the runner at third.
Great play by the second baseman.
Now up to bat.
Number 22, Gavin Smith.
Remember how to triple earlier in this game.
Very dangerous batter.
Two out so far for McLean.
And the pitch.
And he got a check swing, but he's called safe.
One-0 count.
Even then it looked like it got the zone, but ref didn't see it that, ump didn't see it that way.
Again, football guy saying referee.
McLean with the pitch and Smith fouls it off.
One-one count for him.
Got under that a little late, fired it back behind the catcher.
Still, runner on third, two outs on the inning.
And that one is close.
Very inside pitch, almost hit the batter, stays alive though.
a 2-1 count.
McLean avoids a runner on first and third.
Two-one count.
And the pitch, again, inside but fouled off.
Smith is guarding the plate a little bit.
That ball looked inside, but he was able to catch a little bit of it on the inside of his bat
near his hands.
Two-two count for the pitcher McLean.
Two outs on the inning.
Runner's still on third.
And the pitch, another one inside.
again almost hit the batter.
Full count here for McLean with a runner on third.
Two outs.
Potentially the last pitch of the inning.
McLean looking to make it so.
And the pitch comes in and fouled off by Smith.
Able to grab a piece of that and foul it out out of the stadium on the right side.
Still a runner on third.
Two outs.
Full count for the batter Smith.
McLean looking to end this inning.
and Smith looking to drive in
the runner on third here
or just get on first with a walk
and the pitch comes in
and it is low and he will walk Smith
runners on first and third now
with two outs
now that in the left field
those numbers.
Those can be a little frustrating
as a pitcher when you get to those long
at bats, those long
to get the full count,
get the foul ball
really hoping to finish that one off
with a strikeout and the inning
just didn't quite clip the zone
there on that last pitch and now McLean's got to do it all over again.
Number 12, Mason Myers, the left for the Oilers up to bat with runners on first and third.
Big lead from Smith and that one is fouled off.
Really got a hold of that one Myers did but couldn't keep it in,
fouled off outside of the stadium on the left.
McLean already starting good out early.
O one count. Two outs, runners on first and third.
McLean making sure to keep an eye on Smith at first.
And he takes it, and it's a foul ball.
Smith looked to take second, but it got fouled off by Myers.
Both teams got some action going in their bullpens.
Not sure if anyone's going to be used quite yet,
but it looks like there might be some pitching changes in the near future for both teams.
Weehee, the catcher for the Chargers, looking for a steal.
He got ready for that one last pitch.
O2 count and he takes second
The steal
The grab he throws it
Whoa
And he's got him in a pickle
First and second
And he's out
What a play right there
Runner stole second
Pitcher threw it into second
The runner on third
Daniel got home
But
Smith got caught in a pickle
Between second and first
And tagged out
So the runner that went home
Does not count
Oh it does
He does count.
Yeah, he was able to score before the runner going his second got tagged.
So good play by the Oilers, able to put themselves in a position like that.
Chargers were able to get it out and end the inning with just only one run scored.
And you're listening to Chargers baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor, this is Minute of Honor.
Here's Jenna Suhita.
January 10th, 1970, near Fuatoplong Vietnam, specialist John Baca was setting up an ambush with his
unit. When one of the tripwires detonated in the jungle ahead, a platoon was sent to investigate.
Soon they came under intense enemy fire from concealed positions along the trail.
As they prepared to engage the enemy, a fragmentation grenade was thrown in the midst of the patrol.
Baca said later, at that moment he thought of his mother.
He called her only the day before, telling her that he was working in the post office, safe
from action on the front lines. But with the lives of his friends hanging in the balance, Baca acted
quickly. With complete disregard for his own safety, Baca used his steel helmet and his own
body to cover the grenade and absorb the lethal fragments. His conspicuous gallantry at the risk of his
own life directly saved the lives of eight men. For the extraordinary courage and selflessness
he displayed on February 10th, 1970, specialist John Baca was awarded the Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. And we're back at the bottom of the fifth
inning. The Oilers getting one run right before the inning ended. That puts the Oilers at six and the
charges at four. There was a pitch pitcher change for the Oilers coming in. Number 41 left-handed pitcher
pitcher Sebastian Stevens. Yeah, a pretty chaotic end to the inning there for the Oilers. They were able to
do a little play that's pretty common with runners on first and third. Try to get the throw to short.
to the second base in order to get the third base runner home.
And as our shortstop tried to catch it and throw back home,
a little bobble, a little fumble on the transition there.
And so the run did end up scoring,
and they just resorted to try to get the guy who was running to second.
He was never really even trying to get there if they threw to second.
It was really just trying to get that guy on third to score, which they did.
Now number nine, Eric Jassiak up for the Chargers.
new pitcher Stevens and there is a call to home plate from the coach and
unsure what that was about but the game is back on.
There about a little equipment malfunction from the catcher there wanted to make sure he
was all squared away something didn't seem quite right with him.
Jackieck up to pit up to bat Stevens with his first pitch and low called ball
one-o count Stevens a 4.78 ERA
pitcher coming in for
Kiesling after a
good four innings
and J.C. gets a piece
of it, but it is in the
hands of the center fielder.
Casey
Maruniack makes the play for the
boilers.
We saw a contact there. It just ended up
going, thought it might have landed in the
gap there, but good play by the center fielder.
Now we're up, big bat.
Center fielder guard Swenson.
Hoping to get on the board for the
Chargers. And first pitch for Stevens is a strike. A little bit inside. Swenson didn't want it,
but it's called a strike. Next pitch, low in the dirt. Catcher couldn't hold on to it. One-one count.
Swenson, again, a big bat, making a ton of plays in the field so far today. Looking to get on base for
the Chargers. And another ball in the dirt. Two-one count for Stevens. A little lefty-on-lefty action.
looks like Stevens is trying to get him to chase outside a little bit,
but guard being disciplined, not biting.
And Swenson gets a hold of it.
Could go outfield and the catcher, or the center fielder makes a play.
Casey Maruniac ran it down.
A little center fielder to center fielder right there.
Fortunately, Poiler Centerfielder came out on top on that altercation.
Swenson, great hit.
Looking to go left middle, but Maruniac with the speed to track.
it down. Now up to hit. Another big bat, Tanuta, the third baseman. And first pitch, low for a ball.
Stevens, looking to get his third out on his third batter, the bottom of the fifth. Two out so far.
Stevens, one-o-count. And the pitch is another low one. Ball two for a two-oh-count, two-outs.
Toon-noot, a good eye on both of those. Stevens.
Another miss.
3-0 count for the Chargers.
Tanuta, great eye just sitting in there and letting them throw these balls.
And takes one right down the middle.
3-1 count.
Smart play for Tanuda.
Good pitch by Stevens, trying to get back in this.
And the pitch way outside, and that's a walk for Tanuta.
Going to first.
Stevens, first walk of his outing.
Outing.
There you go.
That helped me out a little bit.
Stevens on his third pitcher, first walk of the outing,
and looks like the infield is coming to check on him,
after two great pitches against batters and then walking his third one.
Yeah, as football players don't always have the best baseball terminology,
it takes us a little bit to get acclimated.
Tenoed on first, two outs so far this in it.
Looks like they're just trying to give them.
I'm a little breath.
Don't know if they're going to quite take him out yet.
He had a good start to the inning,
but it looks like there might be some movement coming from the bullfin,
and there is.
Just after two outs in this inning,
it looks like they're going to switch something up a little bit.
They might not like the lefty pitcher
against the majority right-handed batters of the chargers.
And I will tell you for sure,
the switch is not coming from the outfielder.
because the outfiters are all stretching and laying around.
Number three for the Oilers, Colin Becker,
with a 3.14 ERA and is outing so far this year.
Right-handed pitcher.
The thing that might be what they were thinking,
wanted to get a little something,
a little different arm slot, different angles
against our primarily right-handed batting team.
Absolutely.
A little weird a series of actions right there after three batters and two outs.
New pitcher coming in.
So I will have a little break to let him warm up.
Throwing heat.
Lehman, the first baseman number 33.
It's going to be the next one up to bat with Tenoota on first base.
Two outs so far this inning.
Tars is looking to rally a little bit with his two outs here.
with only another after this inning only two more potential appearances for the chargers.
We've got to make everyone count.
So even though there's two outs, they're really hoping to try to get one more run across,
if not more, before this inning ends,
and try to put a little bit more pressure on the Oilers as we're sitting here on the bottom of the fifth,
watching Colin Becker continue to warm up.
Absolutely.
And you've got to remember with this double header, this first game is only seven innings.
While the next one will be all nine, this first one is a little different.
Now with the second back-to-back double header between the Hillsdale College Chargers
and the Finley University Oilers.
Rocco getting ready on first base.
Looking like he's just talking to the coach there, getting ready.
Maybe he's going to steal, maybe not, with only two outs,
trying to make sure we keep our guys on the base paths as Will Lehman gets ready to take the plate.
Layman, big hitter coming up against this new pitcher. Becker.
Layman to move the bases.
Two outs.
First pitch, high and inside.
Ball one.
And Becker checking back it first.
And the pitch.
Oh, cold strike.
That one looked outside, but must have clipped the corner.
One-one count.
Two outs in the inning.
Rutter on first.
Oilers still up six to four.
And the pitch, and it is a little outside.
Lehman caught swinging for another strike.
Couch's going to be one two now.
Big swing there from Lehman.
He was looking to jump all over that slider there.
Just couldn't quite connect.
Layman's a dangerous batter if he gets his hands on the ball.
It'll go far.
And he is hit, hit by pitch, and that will send another runner to first.
Now the charges have runners on first and second out.
after that hit by pitch, Becker, not a good start.
It's another one of those tough things with a pitcher coming in.
Already two outs in the inning.
He's just kind of forced in there, Guy on first.
He's not able to start off the inning on his own terms.
He's got to try to come in and recover what was given to him.
And he ends up hitting layman there.
Clean up here, Ryan Weehee.
And he pops that one up.
Looks like a foul ball.
Is a catcher going to get it?
Nope, just over the net.
The catcher was looking to get the third out of the inning on that foul ball, but it just got out.
Ryan Weehee looking to make contact early.
O-1 count.
Runners on first and second.
Two out so far in the inning.
Weehe looking to even up the score.
And Wehi gets a hold of it, but it is looking to go right to the center fielder.
Great play by Casey Maruniac to make that out, and that will be the.
the third out of the inning.

And welcome back, Charger fans at the top of the sixth inning coming in with a 801 count.
After a swing, a 02 count in the chargers made a change at pitcher, bringing in left-handed pitcher.
Brendan Smith, number 35.
is a 4.46 ERA.
Shunleway and number 12, Mason Myers
hit it right past the pitcher to the second baseman,
but he babbled it a little bit, couldn't make the out.
Myers now on first.
Just off the edge of the pitcher's glove there,
slowed the ball up enough.
Billy had to come in running, charging from second base,
and just couldn't quite make it.
The ball was moving a little too slow.
for him to get the out at first.
Yeah, that tip definitely messed up the timing a little bit.
Now, Isaac Ramos up to bat with a runner on first.
And he shows Buntz it right to the pitcher, throws to second, gets the out.
Heads up play by the pitcher there.
They're trying, Oilers trying to advance the base runners up to second at the price of an out.
But instead, they end up in the same situation just with another out and a runner on first.
Already in this inning, one out, one runner on first.
Mike Sjortnino up to bat.
Smith on his third runner batter already.
And Sjortno fouls it off to the left.
O one count.
Oiler's base runner's got to be a little bit more careful now
with a left-handed pitcher on base.
The pickoff moves to first are going to be a little bit more common,
I'm guessing.
Yeah, definitely not seen as big of the lead from Ramos right now.
The pitch comes in, and that is a swing and a miss.
Oh, two count.
pitch from Smith got him
chasing it. Third batter,
O2, Count Smith looking for
his first strikeout already.
And the pitch coming in,
and that one's floating a little bit,
but Seorch Noe fouls it off.
Smith, lucky,
he, uh, nothing more dangerous
happened. Seorntonot
No gets way ahead of that one, fouls it
off to the left. Still,
O2 count. Runner on
first. And the runner goes,
the runner goes to second,
Catcher got it and bobbled a little bit before the throw.
Looked like great timing could have had him, but just a little mishandling of the ball there.
Yeah.
Just a little funky there on that transition.
This wasn't able to quite get a good relay between pitcher, catcher, and then back to second.
Good steal by the catcher Isaac Ramos for the Oilers.
One ball, two strikes now for the pitcher Smith.
And that third one, swing and a miss.
Got him chasing first strike out of the day for Brendan Smith.
Myth. Two outs now for the chargers on the end.
You know that in the second baseman number 13, Drew Tucker.
Coming in now, Drew Tucker, number 13.
Actually, looks like the coach might make a change.
Drew Tucker heading to the bench now.
Looks like they're bringing in a new second baseman.
A little pinch hitter action.
Looks like they're trying to get someone to face off against the left-handed pitcher.
Most likely, I'm anticipating a left-handed batter.
trying to give them an advantage over the new new face on the mound.
Yeah, Brendan Smith with a strong inning to start,
but the Oilers bringing in a new batter number one.
Aiden Booth.
Now Aiden Booth normally plays infield,
so he may come in to be a permanent second baseman as well as the pinch hitter.
Pinch hitting for the oilers number one.
Looks like I was wrong.
He's another right-handed batter.
Brendan Smith looking out to take out another batter.
with two outs on the ending so far.
And he pitch and he goes second and he's out.
Ramos tries to steal second but gun down or tries to steal third.
Gunned down by great throw by Wehee.
After missing him while he ran to second,
Wehi was able to get him going to third.
Coach looks furious, might not have been his call.
Runner may have taken his own liberties to go to third.
up for the Oilers, Colin Becker.

And we are back in the bottom of the six inning.
Finley Oilers, six runs so far this inning.
Hillsdale Chargers, only four.
Chargers have one and a half innings to get on the board.
It's left fielder Tyler Sowers, number 21 up to bat,
against new pitcher last evening, Colin Becker.
Becker had a good start for the Oilers coming in for Sebastian Stevens
after only a few batters for him.
And Becker throws his first pitch outside for a ball.
Remember, Stevin's pitched for three batters, got two.
two outs and then got pulled for Becker, right-handed pitcher.
And the 1-0 pitch is fouled off.
Sowers got a little contact on that one, but couldn't keep it fair.
One-one count.
Becker with the third pitch of the inning, outside called ball.
2-1 count.
Sowers, good take there.
And the pitch, and fouled off by Sowers once again.
Got a piece of it, but again, couldn't keep it fair.
2-2 count with zero-outs on the inning.
Chargers really looking for any way to get a base runner on so that way they can advance
him and put them in scoring position.
Just trying to get it so they can tie it up and hopefully take the lead here soon.
Chargers got some guys on base last inning but couldn't make anything happen with it.
And Becker with the 2-2 pitch and ball inside.
Going to be a full count now for Sowers.
Chargers haven't quite been able to check.
to run across since the third inning when they scored four.
Hopefully they can have a little repeat magic here in the sixth.
Sowers with the full count.
And the pitch is outside.
That's ball.
Whoa, late call.
Little outside pitch, but called strike three by the umpire.
And that is out number one for the Finley Oilers.
The strikeout for Colin Becker.
Sauer's already passed the left-handed batters,
box on his way to first when that ball was called a strike three.
Carson Tucker, the designated hitter end to bat once again.
Becker looking for another strikeout.
Chargers looking to get on base.
And that one is way high, called a ball.
And the second pitch is batted off foul ball.
Tucker couldn't get a hold of it, pulled it a little bit,
one one count, one out on the inning so far.
Becker looking for his second strike out of the inning.
And the pitch is way outside, in the dirt and behind the catcher.
Catcher couldn't get a hold of it, couldn't stop that one.
2-1 count now.
And, oh, another outside ball called a strike.
Count's going to go to 2-2.
Becker fighting back for a favorable count.
Tucker looking to get on base.
2-2, count 1.
out and another pitch way outside called a ball another full count
Tucker had to take a quick peek back at the umpire make sure that one was called a ball
a little nervous he was going to get rung up like his teammate there three two count second full
count of the inning and that one called strike three Sowers got caught looking or
Tucker got caught looking just like his teammate Sowers that is two
back-to-back strikeouts on full counts now up to bat looks like there's a change
Tyler Turner getting subbed out for number 11 Nolan Coppins left-handed batter
looking for a favorable matchup against the right-handed pitcher come Copens coming in to
play right field and pinch hit now bottom of the six inning with two outs copens batting
269 here on the season.
And first pitch,
low but swung at by Copens.
Strike one.
And the second pitch, swung on by Copens,
fouled to the right side near the bench.
O2, count, two outs.
Becker already ahead in the count.
Again, Finley is up.
Six to four on the chargers in the bottom of the sinks.
And Becker with the pitch,
and Copens just gets a piece of it
to stay alive.
still 02 count
The O2 pitch and Copens
Gets another piece of it but fouls it off
Staying alive on these pitches
Still O2 count with two outs
Copen's really battling being
O2 this whole at bat just trying to stay
contacting the ball hopefully getting one in play here
And Copen swings and misses
That's another strikeout for Becker
And that is three outs on three batters for Becker
and that is going to do it for the Chargers.
After six innings, going to the top of the seventh,
you're listening to the Chargers Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds out of time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and let's settle this question once and for all.
What does it mean to say that something is inflammable?
Despite the misleading prefix, inflammable means the same thing as flammable.
That is, it refers to something which is easily set on fire.
That prefix, by the way, comes from Latin and literally means in.
Saying something is inflammable is essentially saying it is in flames.
A common misconception is that inflammable means both easily set on fire and not easily set on fire.
Fortunately, this is not the case and it only means easily set on fire.
The correct way to say that something is not easily set on fire,
on fire is non-flammable. Or to reduce confusion, you might say incombustible, which kind of makes
things worse because it's the same prefix, but it means the opposite thing, and that's English for
you. That's your Grammar Minute. Visit thegramomorminit.com for more tips and tricks.
And we are back at the top of the seventh for the first game of our doubleheader reminder,
since it is a double header, this first game will only be seven innings. The Finley Oilers are
currently up six to four on the Chargers.
Chargers looking here to hold the boilers to no runs this inning.
That way they can come back in the bottom of the seventh here, try to put together a little three-run
inning and end the game on their own terms.
Now that ain't number one.
Finley with six hits with one error in the Chargers, four hits in one error.
Left-handed pitcher Brendan Smith, hoping to take down some batters here.
Number one pinch hitter that just came in last inning.
Aiden Booth rips one to shortstop and gets right past him to the left fielder.
And Booth is on for a single.
He ripped a grounder.
The shortstop just couldn't reach it.
Left fielder threw it in to keep him on first.
Aaron Jazeag trying to dive there, just couldn't quite get there.
Ball just outside of his gloves reach.
Now lead off hitter Nick Palm up again to bat.
Runner on first, zero outs.
Brendan Smith, after coming in last inning,
is looking to get some outs.
And Palm lays down a bunt,
and Smith tosses it to the first baseman.
Palm is out on first, but Booth advances the second.
Finley, one out, runner on second.
Smart play by the Oilers.
Worked out a little bit better than it did for them last inning,
where their bunt
ended up with no advancing of the runners
in an additional out
versus this inning now.
Oilers got a runner on second and one out.
Daniel's a dangerous runner.
The Chargers hoping that he does not get on base.
And the first pitch low,
starting with a 1-0 count.
Daniel has stole a ton of bases so far this game,
hoping they can get out here with Smith.
Again, Booth.
Came in last inning to pinch hit for Drew Tucker.
And the ball is swung on, flying deep to left field and caught.
Booth tags at second and double guesses it and goes back.
Smart decision.
The left fielder, Tyler Sowers, threw it into the third basement.
Great speed.
Would have been an out if Booth committed to the run.
Two outs now, runner on second.
Daniel after a pop out to left field.
Now number 17, Casey Maruniac, up to hit for the Oilers.
Two outs now for Brendan Smith.
And this first pitch is in and called a strike.
Got just inside the own.
Maruniac's got something to say to the hump, but that was still called a strike.
O one count.
Smith hoping to keep these strikes coming, runner on second.
Doesn't seem to be too worried about him.
And the pitch comes in.
That one will all outside.
It's going to be a one-one count.
First ball for the batter.
Booth taking his big lead on second.
Smith's not too worried about him.
The one-one count, two outs.
Looking back at the runner, and the pitch comes in,
and swing and a miss for Maruniak.
Strike two on him.
So one-two count, two outs.
Chargers looking to come out without any runs given up on this last any of the game.
One ball, two strikes, two outs.
Runner on second.
And strike three to end the inning, Smith with a strikeout.

Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group.
On August 6th, 1945, an atomic weapon was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, in hopes of ending World War II.
However, few are aware for days prior to the bombing, American pilots dropped leaflets over the city, warning the people to leave.
Read this carefully as it will save your life, it read,
We are in the possession of the most destructive explosive ever devised by man,
and then it urged them to evacuate their city.
Even though over 100,000 people lost their lives in Hiroshima,
the Empire of Japan still refused to surrender.
It took a second bombing on Nagasaki before the Emperor himself.
ordered the surrender over the objections of his military leaders.
This has been the Making of America.

And we are back at the bottom of the seventh inning coming in with a 1-0 count.
First batter for Becker.
And that's another ball called 2-0.
Number 18, Billy Paraski, the second baseman up to bat.
Possibly the last inning of this game.
Chargers need at least two runs to tie it.
And Paraski catches it up the middle, bouncing right to the second basement,
and he throws it to first, and that will be the first out of the inning.
Parovsky, good slash, but couldn't quite get it past the second basement.
First out of the inning for the Finley Oilers.
Now up to bat, number nine, shortstop.
Aaron Jossiak.
One out on the inning so far for Becker.
Chargers still looking for two more runs.
And that one is outside.
Ball one for Jasek.
Jasek.
Jasek.
And the second pitch and Jasek
grounder right to the first basement.
And he's,
He grabs it and touches first for the second out of the inning.
Jason couldn't get there in time.
Now, big bat up.
Guard, Swenson.
Center fielder looking to make something happen.
Two outs left.
Or two outs.
Bottom of the seventh.
Only one out left for the Chargers to make something happen.
Chargers got to put something together right here if they want to keep this game going.
And first pitch, low and outside.
Ball one.
Becker came in, end of the fifth, and he's been doing real well since then.
And Smith takes one on the inside.
One-one count.
Strike one for Becker.
And there you go.
Swenson gets a hold of it, launches it between the first, or between the shortstop and the third baseman, and gets two first.
Way to get a guy on base.
Now up Rocco Tanuda, with a guy on first.
Poilers.
seem to have been playing pretty aggressive, almost shift-like defense.
That put the shortstop in a tough position.
Currently where he's starting at against Rocco,
he would have been in a perfect position for guard,
but because they're left and righties,
he was way out of position for guards hit there.
Guard on first, and the first pitch, outside ball one.
Two noodle, looking to make something happen.
One-0 count, two outs.
Chargers still need two runs to tie it.
and Becker looking back at first seems to be worried about the guy taking the lead off.
Pitch comes in and is way out.
2-0 count.
Becker might be a little overwhelmed by the guy on first.
Tenuda looking to get on base.
2-0 count.
And the pitch.
And oh, that one's called a strike.
A little outside.
Tanuda's not happy with it, but 2-1 count for Becker.
Still a guy on first and two outs in this inning.
Tenuto looking to swing.
swing here now. Becker still worried about the guy on first and the pitch comes in another one outside.
That one looked to be in the same place as past pitch but called a ball this time. Three one count.
Becker seems to know that the home plate umpire likes those outside pitches so he's trying to
really paint those outside edges try to ring Tanuta up there.
Still worried about the guy on first three one count and the pitch comes in.
Check swing call it a strike. Full count for Tanuta.
Another pitch around the same area as the last two, and Tenuda thought he wanted it, but pulled back at the last second.
Now Swenson with a large lead, full count here.
Swenson takes it, and that is ball four.
Tying run is now on first base in Rockwood, and the game winning run, Lehman steps up to the plate.
First baseman, heavy back, great hitter, Will Lehman, looking to drive the two guys on first.
and second home.
Two outs.
Big leads at first and second.
And first pitch, outside.
Ball one.
He really loves those outside pitches,
knows the uncle give him some.
Layman, good take.
1-0 count, two outs.
Runners on first and second.
And Lehman loads up, takes a swing,
but it bounces off the back net for a foul ball.
one one count with two outs.
Layman's swinging hard if he gets a hold of one of these.
It could go far.
Layman really liked that pitch.
He was going all after that one.
Looking to end this game with one swing.
One one count for Becker.
Big leads from first and second.
Pitch comes in.
And that one is high and inside, almost hitting the batter.
Two-one count.
Layman, good take there.
Becker, getting a little overwhelmed by all the runners on base.
Big lead from Swenson on second.
Pitch comes in, that one right down the middle.
Layman didn't like what he see, didn't swing.
Two-two-count.
Two-two-count, two outs, two runners on base,
and two runs needed to tie this game for the Chargers.
Lehman with the pitch, and he grounds it down to the shortstop,
makes the throw, and he is out,
and that will end this first game of the double-header.
Finley Oilers, six, Hillsdale Chargers, four.
