The following is a special presentation of WRFH sports.
Good afternoon and welcome to TFO Partners Field at Glenda and Glenda and Glenda Hills Stadium.
I'm Christian Papillon.
I'm Dan Daryngowski.
And this is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
We're just underway in the top of the first inning.
Right hander for Hillsdale, Logan McLaughlin, has a one-two count on Ohio Dominican leadoff man.
Gavin Lawler.
The Chargers come into this game, having won the first game of the series.
They dropped both games of the double header yesterday,
and they're looking for a series split as McLaughlin delivers ball two.
And a swing and a miss, strike three.
That's the first strikeout for McLaughlin, first out of the game.
And the number two hitter for Higher Dominican steps up to the plate.
Stephen Chapman.
Chapman is solid hitter from the right side for Ohio Dominican.
And that first pitch just misses.
That's ball won.
The charger pitchers work pretty fast as McLaughlin delivers.
That's a ground at a third.
It looks a little bit too hot for Tunita to handle.
It's off his glove.
And that will probably be an error on Rocco Tunuta at third.
Chapman reaches first base.
It seems like that ball just skipped off the top of his glove
and won out and left field.
We'll see.
Hopefully he doesn't make that air again.
Yeah, that's not great.
You don't want to be giving free base runners away this early in the game.
McLaughlin delivers the first pitch to Trace Chafin, and that's ball one.
McLaughlin is not using much of the pitch clock.
He's throwing before it hits 10 seconds.
That one's popped up into right field.
Looks like he's under it.
And that's two outs.
Just to note, first seems they're taking a short lead.
He knows up against a right-handed pitcher.
Batterstein fairly close to the base.
Yes.
And it will be number 28, Carson Willis, up at the plate for Ohio Dominican.
McLaughlin delivers the first pitch.
That one is lined into right center.
That's a base hit.
And runners going to third.
Right-fielder couldn't handle it very well.
And that's a couple of early fielding miscues by the Chargers.
Ohio Dominican has runners on the corners with two outs.
It looked like he just bobbled the ball up there.
I mean, the runner looked like he was going to stay up at second,
but as soon as that ball popped up,
he made the run to third,
and there was no chance to throw him out from there.
Looks like he tried to pick it up maybe a little bit too quickly.
And it's Braden Reed at the plate.
McLaughlin throws.
That one's a little bit inside.
that's ball won. The second pitch that's grounded over to second base, fielded by Parodzky, and thrown to first.
And after getting into a little bit of trouble in the first inning, McLaughlin escapes. It's a shutout still.
And this is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. We'll be back right after this.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
We are about to start the bottom of the first inning.
Chargers got into a little bit of trouble in the top of the first,
putting runners on the corners with two outs,
but escaped without giving up a run.
On the mound for Ohio Dominican is right-handed pitcher Colin Hennessy.
He comes into the game.
and he will be facing lead-off hitter,
Gards Swenson for the Chargers shortly.
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see Hillsdale struggling a little bit with defense.
We'll see if their offense can make up for a couple errors that they've produced so far.
Yeah, a couple of miscues.
The error at third on the first, for the first base runner,
and then just mishandling the ball on the base hit in right field,
allowing the runner to go to third.
Nothing came of it, though, so Chargers are still in good shape.
And Swenson comes to the plate.
He's hitting 333 coming into the game.
Very solid in the lead-off spot for the sophomore.
And he steps into the left-handed batters box.
And as he set delivers, that one's up the middle.
Diving stop by the shortstop, but just not able to come up with it.
And Swenson reaches on what's probably a base hit.
I don't think you give him an error on that one.
No, surely not.
It would have been a tough play to get up and throw that the first.
But it was a good effort from the shortstop.
Yes.
And now it's the third basement, Rocco Tanuda.
He's hitting 300.
He's a junior.
He's been a contributor on the team ever since freshman year.
And as he's set, delivers that one misses ball one.
Tanuta is really good at getting on base.
He has on base percentage like right around 400,
every season so far with the Chargers is that's strike one it's a one one count nobody out
swenson on first base conservative lead at first there's a pickoff attempt at first but
swenson dives back with plenty of time swenson's a bit of a base dealer he has i think he has 10
this season where i think he leads he leads the chargers and stolen bases and there's another
pickoff attempt, makes it back safely. And with a good contact hitter and in the top of the
lineup, you don't want to allow him to take second. Swenson goes, here comes the throw, and he gets there
safely. That was a really good jump there. He had that time perfectly. Right as the pitcher made
any sort of motion towards home, he went. So now, Tanuta has
a runner in scoring position with a
one-two count as
Hennessy delivers
that one misses inside
that's ball two
it looked like a curveball didn't get enough drop
on it
Tenuda leads the Chargers in home runs
this season with five
and that's ball three
that's a full count now
nobody out
runner on second base
and the Chargers best power hitter at the plate
Hennessy sets
takes a look at second
and here's the pitch
and that's right
to the short stop
Swenson holds at second
and the throw to first
will get to Nuda
that's a bit unfortunate that he
hit it to that side
he needed it right at the shortstop
maybe if it was a little bit off
a little play
could cause of confusion
but good fielding, good throw
nothing much you could do there
and now Nolan
Copens steps up to the plate. He's hitting 300 this season. Swenson at second base. The first pitch is in there
for a strike. Chargers really want to capitalize on the base hit by Swenson to lead off and the
stolen base. The O-1 is also in there for a strike. That's two quick strikes on Nolan Copens.
It looked like he painted the outside corner. And the pitch, that one misses.
that's ball one.
Gutsy take there.
It looked like he's going for the same spot.
Yeah, he likes that outside corner for this batter.
Set, that one is way inside,
and Swenson is diving into third base safely.
He kind of got away there from the catcher, Noah's shot.
So now Chargers have a prime opportunity to score here
with the runner on third, one out,
and Nolan Copens at the plate.
The pitch.
That's right back to the pitcher.
He takes a look at third, throws to first,
gets Copens and pulls Swenson at third base.
Good, smart play from the pitcher.
Check to run at third.
Newy had enough time to still get to first.
Yeah.
Because if you make that play too quickly to first,
Swenson might have time to score.
Now, Jake Figman steps up to the plate,
sophomore from Palm City, Florida.
runner on third for him.
He grounded up the right side to second
and that's thrown to first
and the Chargers make a threat
but are just kind of short for this inning.
So after one full inning, it's zero to zero.
We're going to be going to the top of the second
right after this.

We're about to go to the top of the second.
Both teams made threats to score in the top of the first inning,
but came up short.
And we have pitcher Logan McLaughlin getting ready to face.
Mason Hess of a higher Dominican, hitting 304 at third base, and he steps up to the plate.
McLaughlin, set, and the pitch that's in there, strike one.
Nice curve ball, I think that was.
Started in the inside and moved out.
Second pitch, that's a swing and a miss, strike two, kind of through a fastball to the same location as that first pitch, breaking ball.
McLaughlin ready, set.
And that's a swing and a miss, strike three.
Quick out for the first batter.
McLaughlin is only at 15 pitches so far through the first four batter, first four outs.
Jonah Hayne is up to the plate now.
McLaughlin's been working really quickly this game, not letting the pitch clock drop below 10.
That first pitch misses that's ball one.
fairly close to the plate in that batters box yes that one is a little bit high that's ball two
and it's a two oh count on haine hayne is a 222 hitter this season for ohio dominican the pitch
and that's a cold strike that's one two one McLaughlin sets delivers that is called strike too
that one was right on the outside corner i think the two two that's lined into center field that's a
base hit for hain just popped that right over the shortstop right no chance to get at it nice solid
hit well located wasn't a very hot shot but it was high enough that the shortstop didn't have a chance
of getting to it and it will be the catcher noa shot to bat now he's the number eight hit
for Ohio Dominican.
The pitch goes into left field and it's caught, caught by Figman,
and Hayne runs back to first.
That was nice play there.
And it's Granthorn second baseman for Ohio.
Stepping up with two outs, runner on first and the top of the second.
McLaughlin throws.
That one misses high and outside, ball one.
Hain with the conservative lead at first.
The pitch.
And that one misses ball two.
Sure checks over.
The 2-0.
That's fouled back.
That's strike one.
That was a bit of an off-speed, yeah?
Yeah.
It's a little break trying to work on his tunneling and get the batter to second guess.
Throw them off balance a bit.
Throws.
That one just misses.
ball three it's a three and one count
McLaughlin is
working really quickly. Do you think there's
a strategy to that at all?
Yeah I mean it keeps the batter
off balance and he's not able to
properly guess as
was that oh battered through his bat
thought it was ball four? Yeah he thought it was
ball four that was called strike two
he thought that one was close
and now the pitch
that's a swing and it's fouled
back out of play
and it's still three and two.
Runner went, but it's a full count,
so he will be taking off as soon as the pitch is thrown.
Maybe we can see a pickoff move here.
Yeah, first baseman doesn't seem intent on holding him.
The pitch, that's a fly ball into center.
Swenson's camping under it, and he makes the catch.
That's going to be three outs,
and the Chargers have another scoreless inning.
We're going to be going to the bottom of the second inning.
This is Charger Baseball.
on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. We'll be back right after this.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and I'm here to talk about email subject lines. Don't ask me how, but I just found out recently that chat GPT can generate these for you.
It seems to like long, complete sentences, such as, I really enjoyed our conversation at the conference yesterday.
This is grammatically correct, but the problem is that email subject lines are like social media,
post captions. Our lizard brains get three words in, and by then we've already decided if this is
something we want to read. Thus, when you're writing an email subject line, sacrifice every word
you don't absolutely need. For the sample sentence, you could shorten it to,
great to meet you, or follow up XYZ conference. If you feel the need to add more details,
just know the recipient probably won't read them. This is a great time for brevity and a great
time to break almost every grammar rule. That's your grammar minute.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
I'm Christian Papillon.
I'm Daniel Daringowski.
And we are here in the bottom of the second inning.
Chargers and Panthers are tied zero to zero.
Panthers have three hits to the Chargers won.
And they're getting ready to hit in the second inning, try to get something started.
It'll be Tyler Sowers, Tyler Turner, and Noam Dickler to try to get something started here.
A good first inning for the Chargers.
Kind of able to get some knocks on that pitcher.
None of them, I believe none of them struck out.
It was all grounded in.
Grounded or pop-ups, which it's good to see.
And hopefully, into these later innings,
they're able to get more of the bat on the ball
and get some men on base.
Yeah, most of the batters in this lineup don't strike out very much.
First pitch breaking ball to Sowers.
That's called strike one.
Look like he almost tried to bump there, but held up.
Yeah.
Breaking Bowl may have thrown him off.
I don't know.
Here comes the O-1.
He checks up an appeal, and first base umpire says he went.
That's strike two.
So that's quickly he's down 0-2.
And as he sets, throws, that one is called strike three.
Sowers just goes down.
I think we might have jinxed him.
That pitch seemed a little bit low, but...
Tyler.
Now it's Turner at the plate.
It seems we have either the pitchers don't to some zone really well,
or it's getting a little bigger than what we can see up here in the press box.
Yeah.
Tyler Turner is a 3.46 hitter this season for Hillsdale.
He's the right fielder this game.
And the first pitch is inside ball one.
That one was...
pretty far in Turner had to dodge that one.
And it's 1-0.
Enise he throws,
and that one is ball two.
Those pitches wildly separate from each other.
It would be interesting when the pitcher decides for pitch number three.
Yes.
Eni sets, throws,
and that one also misses.
It's a 3-0 count.
I mean, McLoughlin worked fast on the mound,
but Hennessy's also working pretty fast this game.
He's also using about 10 seconds
of the 20 available to him on the pitch clock.
And that's a strike.
Looks like Turner thought that was ball four.
Took a step towards first.
But then there was a call.
All four of those pitches were seen pretty low.
For pitch five, he goes that way.
That one is grounded to short, and a quick throw to first will get Turner in time.
So there's two quick outs on the chargers this inning, and it will be Logan Dicler.
And Dinkler is the catcher of this game.
He's hitting 200 in the 7 spot.
And we have the first pitch.
Breaking ball, strike one.
Kind of interesting.
Now he's starting up top where the previous battering he was throwing low, low, low.
Yeah, just switching things up.
Fastball misses.
That's outside.
We're on a 1-1 count.
Tennessee throws. That one is grounded up to third base. And there's the throw across. And first baseman scoops it. That's three outs. Chargers and Panthers are still in a scoreless tie as we go to the top of the third inning. This is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. We'll be back after this break.

Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. I'm Chris.
I'm Daniel.
And we are here in the top of the third inning.
We're back at the top of the lineup for a higher Dominican.
Gavin Lawler is getting ready to hit.
He struck out in his first at-bat this game.
And Lachlan is still going to be the pitcher, it looks like.
He's had a pretty solid game.
Give it up a few hits, but no runs yet.
Lawler steps up to the plate of 400 hitter going into the game.
Center fielder.
McLaughlin is set, throws, and that one misses outside ball one.
You know, both shortstop.
The second baseman is actually playing in the outfield a little bit.
That second pitch hits the strike zone.
That's strike one, one-on-one count.
Both middle infielders are playing quite deep here.
That one is low and away.
That's ball two.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the MLB, isn't he?
force to come in in the infield?
If it were MLB rules, yeah, he'd have to be on the dirt.
But I don't think college has implemented a shift rule like MLB.
As that pitch has fouled back, it's a two-two count now.
And it's not that extreme a shift that we have there from the second baseman, Billy Paraski.
That one is lined into left field.
That one is down the line.
That's in the corner.
That's going to be a double for Lawler.
And the throw-in, a little bit of a celebration at second there from Lawler.
And first batter of the inning is on.
Look like that ball landed 10 feet in from the foul line, just a well-hit ball.
Very well-placed.
Textbook extra base hit there.
No chance of Jake Figman getting to that one.
And the number two hitter, Stephen Chapman.
He singled his first time up.
Big swing and a miss.
Strike one.
More conservative lead at second.
Hillsdale not really holding on, but they're choosing to use the second baseman instead of the shortstop.
And that one is fouled up the right side and out of play.
McLaughlin has two quick strikes on Chapman.
Chapman, a 356 hitter.
Good average at the top of the lineup for High Dominican.
As that one is crushed into left center field is back, it's at the wall.
It's off the top of the wall.
and the throw comes in, that will score a run, and that's back-to-back doubles.
That one just barely missed being a home run there for Chapman.
Yeah, I think it hit off the yellow topping of the wall
and luckily bounced in for the Chargers, but it saves a run.
We'll see if the Chargers can keep this other one out of home.
Yeah, that one, two straight hard hits there for the Panthers.
It'll be Trace Chaffin at the plate.
Chafin flew out in his first at bat this game.
He shows Bunn's but pulls back and takes ball one.
That's five total hits so far for Higher Dominican through this third inning.
That pitch has called for strike one.
And you wonder, there's no activity yet in the Hillsdale bullpen.
But if McLaughlin can't get out of this inning, he might not be in this game much,
longer. He shows Bund and misses the
Bunt, strike two. Front foot is facing
almost towards, his front foot is drops to the left towards third.
Seems like he's trying to line it down that line.
And he swings and misses at strike three. That's the first out of the
inning for Ohio Dominican.
And it'll be Carson Willis.
Willis also hit a single his first time up this game.
And a pickoff attempt towards second.
Chapman gets back with plenty of time.
Just making him think about it.
Leads a little bigger than the previous runner.
Those guys have to pay some more attention to him.
That pitches outside.
That's one ball, no strikes.
Willis hitting 267 coming into the game.
And it looks like Luke Loughlin takes another look towards second.
Chapman runs back.
taking a pretty aggressive lead there.
The 1-0 is in there for a strike.
One change I noticed with Bublik ever since giving up those two hits,
he's not even coming set till 10 seconds.
This stark difference from when he had already released before 10.
It's taking a little bit more time.
He throws another pick-off attempt at second.
Chapman is still safe.
I would guess that maybe Chapman's not trying to steal third,
but he wants to score on any base hit.
into the outfield.
And that's why he has such a big lead there.
Runner dancing.
The 1-1 is in there for Colts Strike 2.
Braden Reed is on deck for Ohio Dominican.
The pitch that is into right field that's dropping.
That's a base hit.
And runner around third, he will score.
And Willis will take second on the throw.
That's an RBI single there for Carson,
Willis and he takes second on the throw in.
Hillsdale's coach runs over the bullpen.
They get to tell someone to start warming up.
Yeah.
I think the Hillsdale coach, Tom Vassella,
he probably wants to have McLaughlin at least finish this inning.
Runner on second, one out.
And that pitch hits the outside corner.
That's strike one.
After kind of dancing around Trumbled to the first two winnings,
Ohio Dominicans finally see.
seems to have figured something out this inning, and that's ball one.
Braden Reed steps back in.
The clock sets.
That pitch is in there, strike two.
Agreed.
Stay as far back in the batters box he can get, his foot is firmly on that white line,
as much time as he can out of the baseball before swinging.
That one's grounded up the third baseline foul, still strike two.
Just got a piece of that one.
It's a good take.
I'm confident that would have been.
being called strike curious he did not swing yes the one two gets a piece of that one that's fouled up
to the right side a little bit a little bit behind on that one after being a little bit ahead of the
previous pitch the one two McLaughlin throws fouled back and it's still strike two read has been
battling this set bet McLaughlin sets and he's back to
Working pretty quickly,
pitch clock was at about 12 when he threw that one,
and that was another foul straight back.
A lot of yelling coming from the stands.
Yeah.
We have Reed steps back up.
McLaughlin throws that one is up and in.
That's ball two.
After throwing, I think, five consecutive strikes or something,
that is a ball two.
Two, two, that is lined into center field.
That's a base hit.
But the runner holds it third, so it's runners on the corners with one out.
And we have Mason Hess at the plate.
Three or four hitter.
And it looks like there's going to be a little bit of a conference on the mound.
The coach is going to talk to his pitcher.
Even if they choose not to pull him, I think he needed to take this time and kind of take a break,
reorganize the defense.
and, you know, got one out.
Runners at the corners.
Double play would get you out of this inning.
Let's see if we can make something happen.
And just get his head in the game,
and at the same time it gives your bullpen guys
little extra time to warm up.
But sometimes all you need is just to reset.
And you get out of the inning,
sure, giving up two runs is not ideal,
but it's better than four.
and you still have plenty of game to get something started on offense.
So coach goes back to the dugout.
McLaughlin is still in the game,
and Hess will step up to the plate to take the first offering from McLaughlin.
That one is up, that's to short, thrown to second, thrown to first,
and that's a double play.
Like you said, there, maybe he just needs to get his head into the game correctly,
and one pitch after the bound visit.
He gets two outs, and we go into the bottom of the third inning.
Ohio Dominican now leads two nothing after putting up two runs that inning.
We're going to be back after this.

King of America from the Jefferson Media Group.
One year after the Louisiana Purchase,
President Thomas Jefferson commissioned Meriwether Lewis and William Clark
to lead an expedition to map America's newfound territories.
Beginning in 1803, their journey would take over two years and cover 8,000 miles.
Jefferson was hoping they'd discover a waterway to the Pacific Ocean, but none existed.
Instead, what they found was a vast land bathed in splendor and rich with natural resources.
Along the way, a young pregnant Shoshone woman named Sakajua joined their expedition and proved invaluable as a liaison with native tribes.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
We're getting ready to go on to the bottom of the third inning.
The Chargers are down 2-0 after giving up two runs at the top of the third.
and looks like Colin Hennessy is still going to be in the game for Ohio Dominican.
He's pitched two shot at innings so far, and he's going to face Billy Paraski of the Chargers.
He's right-handed batter.
See if he can have a solid up at bat and get on base.
The bottom of the lineup is hitting pretty well for the Chargers.
Paraski is hitting 3.09.
J.SIC is hitting 3.0.9. J.6 is hitting 3.
21 from the 9 spot.
First pitch hits the inside corner.
That's strike one.
Now Hillsdale with only one hit to Dominican 7.
Let's see if they can change that.
And NSC delivers, that's strike two.
That looks like both pitches just caught the corners of the strike zone.
And as he throws the O2, that one is outside.
When you have two strikes, sometimes you throw one a little bit outside
to see if you can get him to bite.
and the one two is also outside that's two balls two strikes now on parrotsky
Colin Hennessy has only thrown 24 pitches so far this game and he's ready oh and that one
hits him in the leg and parrotsky will be on first the chargers get the leadoff man on
and it'll be the shortstop erin jasek up to the plate good hillsdale gets a man on base
good way to start off the inning.
Let's see if they can get him around
and cut down on this 2-0 lead that the Panthers have.
Especially with the top of the lineup coming up right after J-SIC.
And J-SIC hits that one hard to short,
thrown to second out.
J-SIC digging towards first,
and that's a double play.
So as soon as it started,
now the Chargers have two outs with nobody on.
After a higher Dominican turns a nice double play.
and guard swenson at the plate he was he's one for one today he singled his first time up and stole a base and
annes he delivers the first pitch that's low ball one nancy's been very efficient so far this game he's
going to be throwing that one that's low and in ball two he's at 30 pitches through almost three full
innings, he's averaging just over 10 pitches per inning. The 2-0 catches the zone that's strike
1. Checking, see if they're learning from their previous match-ups, see if that's changed the
pitcher's approach to pitching to him. 2-1 is low and in, that's ball 3, 3-1 count on Swenson,
and on deck you have Rocco Tanuta ready to bat if Swenson gets on. As he sets, that one is low and
in, that's ball four. Swenson will take first.
first base and now
Tanuta is up.
And now it kind of makes you think.
You know, the double play was kind of unfortunate
because you have two out of the three batters
reaching, but you have the double play
right in between them.
Catcher called a bit of his
own personal mound visit. It's a short
timeout. I'm going to reset and see
and
to know,
he should call it stole on his first
trip to first base. We'll see
if they attempt a more elaborate pickoff.
maybe a back pick or something.
Seem pretty standard, that pickoff.
Yep.
And Tanuta is at the plate.
That's the first pitch.
And that one gets away from the catcher,
and Swenson's going to take second base.
That looked like a past ball to me.
I don't think it was a wild pitch.
Yeah, it seemed like the catcher just misjudged
where that pitch was going to end up
and just didn't clamp the mitt right.
So Tanuta has a runner in scoring position with two outs, a 1-0 pitch.
That one is in the zone, strike one.
Looks like it had a little bit of inside-to-outside action on that one.
Swenson taking a shorter lead.
The breaking ball misses high, and that is strike at ball three.
Sorry, ball two.
Two and one on Rocco Tanuna.
Hennessy checks the runner, throws the pitch, and that's,
hit into the gap a dive but just missed swenson will score and tenuda will stay at first base
yeah almost looked like you guys met under it just seemed that didn't survive contact to the ground
or it tipped off the top part of the glove yeah that was hit into the gap center fielder
um Gavin lawler almost made the play on that but just
came up just short and that will be
a hit for the Chargers.
Nolan Copens at the plate. That one is up the middle. That's a base hit.
Tenuda will hold it second and that is three straight hits
for the Chargers or three straight base runners. Swenson
Walk. Tenuta had an RBI single and Copens had a single of his own.
Two to one Ohio Dominican now and Jake Figman at the plate he's hitting three
54 this season. He has five doubles and a home run to his credit this year so far.
And it looks like there's going to be a mound visit. And the higher Dominican coach is going to try to
settle his own pitcher down in the third inning. Interesting that both pitchers got off to a fairly
strong start and they both have run into trouble in the third. I think it's a little emblematic of how
in college baseball, obviously, you know, start off strong, but, you know, especially, you know, especially,
especially this early in this season.
Going long-distance these innings can be hard.
And sometimes you had hiccups like this and batters just,
they don't need to get your entire matchup.
They only need to get one pitch out of your hole,
whatever you've prepared for them.
Yeah.
And it's the second time these batters have been facing Hennessy.
The pitch to Figman hits him in the leg or in the back somewhere.
And that will be bases loaded.
For the Chargers, Tyler Sowers at the plate with a chance to do damage.
Tyler Sowers, having a solid season, he steps in against Hennessy.
Dominican is Jared Horstyn warming up in the bullpen.
That pitch is outside for ball one.
Probably put Horstead in either in the fourth or if Ennese gives up another run or two,
than maybe even this inning.
Sowers with the pitch, that one's ball too.
Sowers is 0 for one in this game.
He's struck out looking his first time up,
and Hennessy will come set and throw.
That is strike one.
This is a golden opportunity for the Chargers
to pretty much erase the stakes of the top of the third.
That one is in the dirt that is a third.
is a 3-1 count.
You have a little bit of win today going out to left field.
We'll see what the pitcher decides for this.
It kind of has to be in the zone.
You can't, yeah, that one is up.
That's off the shortstop's glove.
That will score a run.
That will score two.
That's a base hit for Sowers, scoring two runs.
Chargers lead three to two.
Just could not make a point.
play on it. It was a hard hit. Shortstop had to range a lot to get to it.
Came up just short, just like on that diving play in center earlier this inning.
I don't think that will be recorded as an error, but definitely a missed opportunity.
Yeah, maybe a defensive miss cue, but not an error.
Close play, but that would have gotten them out of this inning. Instead, two score.
And the first pitch to Tyler Turner is strike one. And the 01.1.
that one misses that's ball one
Tyler Turner over won this game
he grounded out his first time up
hitting 346 coming into the game
checks the runner throws that one is inside
ball two and we've got
Orston continuing to warm up in the Ohio
Dominican bullpen
and doesn't look like there's much activity
in the Hillsdale bullpen right now
and Turner hits that
to right left field, right at the left fielder, and that will be the third out of the inning.
So the Chargers answer back to the two runs Ohio Dominican scored in the top of the third
with three runs in the bottom of the third.
We're going to be going to the top of the fourth inning.
This is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.

I'm Bill Hemmer, and these are the most impactful moments in American history.
Thanks to technological breakthroughs, improvements in transportation, and a booming labor force,
America saw significant economic growth in the late 19th century.
But with many new and changing sectors, the stock market was a beast that was incredibly difficult to follow.
But all that changed in 1896, when a journalist by the name of Charles Dow published the very first Dow Jones Industrial Average.
The index followed 12 industries, including cotton,
tobacco, gas and sugar. Now it wasn't just bankers who had access to this previously exclusive
information. With the birth of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, ordinary people and investors
had a way to follow the highs and lows of the U.S. stock market, as well as the temperature of the
country's economy. For more, go to Fox Newspodcast.com. I'm Bill Hemmer. Fox News.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. I'm
Christian. I'm Daniel. And we're here in the top of the fourth inning. If you're just tuning in,
the Chargers now lead three to two after scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Both teams kind of had a little bit of struggles on defense in the third inning. Ohio
Dominican got two runs, Chargers got three. And for now it looks like number seven, Logan McLaughlin is still in the game.
And he's going to be ready to face Jonah Hayne of Ohio Dominican.
interesting now all these batters on there second possibly third time through seeing him we'll see
and get through this inning scoreless the first pitch is popped up down the left side
and figman will make the catch looks like he ran it a little bit too far on that one but he was
able to recover and make the catch on there and that's the first out of the top of the fourth
It's impressive.
Aaron Jusset almost got over there as well,
but they called them off and good play was made.
McLaughlin is ready.
The pitch.
That one's up the middle.
That's going to be a base hit for a shot.
And that will bring up the number nine hitter, Grand Horn.
And there's still no activity in the Hillsdale Bullpen.
They're probably going to let McLaughlin,
try to figure it out a little bit, want to preserve the bullpen arms as much as you can.
And now that the Chargers lead, there's a little bit less pressure on McLaughlin.
First pitch misses outside, ball one.
Runner taking a more conservative lead, although still inching out.
That one is popped up into right, and that's going to be an easy catch there for Tyler Turner.
Runner goes back to first.
We have two outs.
And it'll be Gavin Lawler, who's one for two in the game today.
In the center field, their number 50, Gavin Lawler.
Lawler hit a double in this game already.
And he steps up to the plate with two outs and a runner on first.
Glefflin throws and stopped by the catcher there.
Logan Decler.
Good from the catcher to keep that ball in front of him.
I wasn't able to catch it but kept it right on the plate so he could throw to second if the runner went.
That one is outs.
side ball two it's a two oh count on luller mclaughlin takes a look at first come set the pitch a big swing and a miss
runner goes and they they got him at second that's caught stealing to end the inning so after a little bit of
trouble in the third McLaughlin settles down throws the scoreless fourth inning we're heading to the
bottom of the fourth with the chargers leading three to two this is charger baseball on radio free

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
We have a new pitcher in the game for Ohio Dominican.
It is Jared Horstyn.
So after Hennessy through three innings, gave up three runs.
There's a new pitcher and we have, looks like we still have Noah's shot at the catcher.
position but knocking out the Ohio Dominican starter early.
See, no shot getting his reps and he was a little late out there because I believe he was
getting ready from being out on the field.
Slow putting his gear on is what I think.
And it will be Logan Geichler up to the plate for the first batter for the
the chargers. He's the catcher.
Batting seventh today.
So it'll be interesting to see what the new look for the charger hitters is for this
pitcher. And Horstyn comes set. It's ready. Delivers. Swing and a miss, strike one.
Fast delivery. In three seconds, then he's already looking back at his catcher getting the signal.
O-1, a swing and a miss, that's strike two.
Two quick strikes on Dykler, and Horstyn is coming set, throws the pitch, and a check-swing foul,
still strike two.
And it seems like Horstyn's been trying to get, he's in his rhythm right now, he's trying to go,
bam, bam, bam.
All these pitches have been exactly where he wants it, it seems.
the O2, that one first miss, that one's ball won.
Still close, didn't miss by much.
He's definitely locating where, pretty much where he wants to.
That one is in there for strike three called.
That's the first out of the inning for the Chargers.
And that will bring up Billy Paratsky, the second baseman.
He was hit by a pitch in the first inning, or his first at bat, my mistake.
and it will be his first at-bat
against
against Orston.
The first pitch
looks like he showed
Bunt briefly but pulled back
and called strike one.
I believe there's a bit of a repeat from his first at-bat.
The pitch, he shows Bunt,
missed the bunt that's strike two.
Peraskius down
O'N-2
and
Orston has thrown a lot of strikes so far.
That one is a swing foul back, and it's still an 02 count for Perotsky.
If you're just joining us, the chargers are leading Ohio Dominican 3 to 2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
And we have Paratsky up at the plate, watches that one go outside, and it's a one-two count.
Good.
The pitch.
That's swung and popped up in the infield.
Catchers calling for it, and he makes the catch.
Kind of dives for it.
But Noah Schott makes the play.
Maybe there's a little bit of wind influence on that.
I don't know there's a little bit of a breeze going from right to left field.
G6 steps off to the plate.
if you can get on base here two outs the first pitch is strike one j six a solid hitter for someone in the nine spot hitting 321 this year
and that's popped up and it's going to be it's going to be caught by horsten and that will be a one two three inning for horston
so we're going to be going into the top of the fifth inning chargeers
still lead three to two. This is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. We'll be back after this.
I'm Bill Hemmer and these are the most impactful moments in American history. 1798. The ink was still

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
I'm Christian.
I'm Daniel.
And we're coming into the top of the fifth inning.
The Chargers lead the Ohio Dominican Panthers three to two.
And it looks like Coach Tom Vissella is sticking with Logan McLaughlin for now.
he's thrown four innings giving up two runs so far and he had a really quick fourth inning so why not give him the fifth
and it'll be the lead-off man for high dominican gavin lawler who is one for two today so far
deep deep positioning from second baseman in the outfield grass first pitch is a check swing does not go that's ball one
the second pitch comes quickly and that's ball too
McLaughlin back to working pretty fast
comes set throws the pitch
and that's in there strike one
Lawler checking with the umpire
that one is up to shortstop
J-Sick throws to first
and that will be the first out
really hard hit ball
hit straight to J-Sick but fielded well
throwing a first first
Plenty of time.
He's number 26, Stephen Chapman.
Yep.
Nice play on the hard hit.
And Stephen Chapman's at the plate.
He is two for two today,
with the run scored and a double.
That one is on the outside corner, strike one.
Gets just ahead of that one,
fouls it up the left field line,
and it's an 0-and-two count now.
Sorry.
Fairly quick deliveries, I was going to say.
but
McLaughlin's
O2 pitch misses outside
that's a one and two count
one and two
that one is high
checks up
and that's two two count now
see that pitch
looks like it could be setting up a curve ball
ripping into out
and down
and that's a grounder
to J-Sick
he has a throw
and gets him by about a step
that is a really nice play
by J-Sick
range
in for the grounder
kind of the opposite type
of hit than the first play this inning
he made where there's
kind of a hard hit right out on the first time
he had to use quite a bit of range on
that one and Trace Chaffin
steps up to the plate for the
third at bat of the inning.
That one's in the dirt for ball one
throws the pitch, another
one to Jasek
and he throws to first
Culpins comes up with it
and that's a one two three inning
all of them ground balls to shortstop Aaron Jasek.
So we're going to the bottom of the fifth inning. Chargers still lead three to two.
This is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. We'll be back after this.
You're listening to What's in a Name on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Today we'll be taking a trip to one of the most famous cities in the world.
New York, New York. Its origins start back in 1624 when a group of Dutch colonists,
settled on Manhattan Island, founding what came to be known as New Amsterdam.
When the British gained control of the area in 1664, King Charles I gave the lands to his brother,
the Duke of York, temporarily changing the city's name to New York.
This became its permanent title in 1674, a full century before the founding of the United States.
Another nickname you may have heard for the city is The Big Apple.
This was popularized in the 1920s by horse racing journalist John J. Fitzgerald.
Jazz musicians also started using the term further
spreading the name in the late 1920s and 30s.
It slowly died out but was brought back in tourist campaigns in the 1970s, solidifying its place as the big apple.
This is what's in a name. My name is Megan Pitcock, and you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7F.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. We are in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Chargers lead the Bantors three to two, and it's going to still be Jared Horstead.
on the mound for a higher Dominican.
After a really quick inning for the fourth,
he's coming out for the fifth to face the top of the charger lineup.
Guard Swenson, who is one-for-one today,
is getting ready to hit.
Lefty steps in.
We'll see if the pitcher changes.
That one is down and in, ball one.
Swenson has been pretty productive in the lead-off spotty's.
One-for-one, a walk is still.
and base he takes ball two hitters count there for swenson as the pitch is outside ball three
probably waiting making him throw you a strike here and that one is inside ball for swenson has walked on
four pitches that's his second walk today and that brings up third baseman rocko tunuta who
is one for two today he had an rbi single his last time up
Tenuda
Linson has reached on all three at bats, one hit and two walks.
And he's not the guy that Ohio Dominican wants to have standing on first.
And Tanuta rips that one down the line, just foul, got a little bit ahead of that pitch.
But that one was crushed.
About a foot or two.
Would have been right down the line.
And Swenson would reach third on that if it had stayed fair.
Yeah, that one was, that one had double written.
all over it if it had stayed fair. Swenson is taking a fairly conservative lead right now.
Horstyn throws to first. Swenson dives back in time. We say conservative, but Swenson's been able
to time the pitchers wind up fairly well. I'll steal a couple bases. He has at least 11 stolen
bases this year as another pickoff attempt. He dives back with time. Just with nobody out,
if he can make it to second, then, you know, Ternuda only needs to take.
hit a single to drive him home. He's a fast runner there. Horstyn throws that pitches high ball one.
And Swenson decided not to go. He takes his lead. Horstyn checks the runner. Come set. And the throw,
and that's a soft ground ball to Horstyn. A throw to first. Tenuda will be out at first. Swenson
will take second on the grounder by Tanuda.
a double play. Chopper to
third made it impossible for the pitcher to throw
Swinth and out second, but it gets Rocko
first.
Yeah, it's not ideal,
but it's better than a double play, and you still have
a runner in scoring position now with only
one out.
Being Nolan Copens at the plate,
that's fouled back
strike one.
Horstyn is
looking for the signal,
and it's
about to come set.
checks the runner, throws the pitch, and that one's in there for a strike.
So no balls, two strikes on Copens.
Copens is one for two today.
He has a hit and a run scored.
And that one is hit into left field.
That one is also foul.
It's just a little bit behind on that one.
Left field, they're cheating also way towards the foul line now.
Yeah, definitely.
Don't want to have those extra base hits down the line.
And that one is up the right side to second.
Out at first, Swenson will take third on the play.
So now Jake Figman steps up to the plate.
There are two outs with a runner on third base.
Swenson has managed to take the extra base on both groundouts this inning.
Figman steps in to that right-handed batters box.
the delivery and that's called strike one figman's hitting 354 coming into the game nine rbis and that one is
a foul grounder straight into the dugout and almost took one of the coaches head off maybe he's
aiming at the ohia dominican guys a little behind the back and that one is up the left side the third base a long throw to first
And he is safe.
That's an infield single for Figman, and Swenson scores.
That one was really good hustle by Figman on that grounder.
He able to beat that ball out.
Extend Hillsdale's lead to two.
Another guy in first.
We'll see if they can make something happen from here.
Tyler Sowers, one for two today.
He's stepping in the box against Horstyn.
That one is called for strike one.
Chargers now lead four to two, and the pitch clock winds down.
As there's a pickoff attempt, Figman makes it back.
It seems a high Dominican has attempted a lot more pickoffs than Hillsdale this game.
E.O1, foul tip, that's strike two.
Sounded like he barely got a piece of that one.
Well, it's a conservative lead at first.
extends it a little bit.
Horstyn checks the runner and throws the pitch in the dirt.
Ball one.
Figman is taking a lead slightly more conservative than Swenson.
And then he'll jump out to secondary.
And the pitch is in there strike three.
So the Chargers get a run on the infield single by Jake Figman,
but aren't able to do any more.
They now lead four to two after five full innings.
We're going to be going to the top of the sixth inning.
This is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.

selection on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. We're here in the top of
the sixth inning. The Chargers now lead to Iron Dominican 4 to 2, and Logan McLaughlin is
still on the mound after throwing five innings. Looks like Tom Vissella is going to stick with
his pitcher as long as he can. And we're going to have the number four hitter, Carson Willis,
stepping up to the plate for Ohio Dominican.
Slides a little hiccup at the first and two runs along the third.
Lawn's had a pretty good day out so far.
Yeah, there's only been like one inning where he hasn't looked all that good,
but otherwise it's been a pretty strong game.
First offering misses outside ball one.
Looks like the middle infield is still playing pretty deep.
The 1-0 pitch is in there for strike 1.
It might not be like an individual like batter decision.
It might be just second baseman Billy Peroski just likes to play a little bit deep.
And that one is outside ball too.
Short stops fairly out there as well.
Not quite in the outfield, but probably just a specific thing.
That's another grounder to JASIC and a throw to first.
And that's four straight plays for the Chargers where it's been a grounder to JASIC for an out.
He's given a lot of action there.
He's running his pay here at shortstop.
Yeah.
And it'll be Brayden Reed at the plate.
The designated hitter is one for two today.
Stepping up against McLaughlin.
First pitch, there's an appeal.
He did not go, says the first base.
So 1-0 count now.
And McLaughlin comes set the delivery.
And that one is in there for a first base.
a cold strike.
So one-one count with one out in the top of the sixth.
That's a ground or foul.
Left side.
And it's a one-and-two count.
As he steps in,
go on, ahead, one-and-two.
We'll see if he goes with an off-speed or another fastball.
The pitch, in the dirt, that's ball two.
Looks like he was going for something
that looked like fastball or change up didn't look like a breaking ball the pitch that's popped up
high to the right side and i'm bill hammer and these are the most impactful moments an american
good awareness there by billy parrotsky and tyler turner out there both of them were converging on
the ball and turner ended up making the play good play you're calling off the second basement
and it's a clean catch.
First pitch, swing and a miss for Mason Hess.
And that's strike one.
McLaughlin comes set, delivers,
and that one is down and in, ball one.
If you're just joining us,
the Chargers lead the Panthers 42
in the top of the sixth inning.
That one is at J-Sick just under his glove.
That will be a base hit for Mason Hess.
That one was a rocket shot.
It would have been a tough play for Jay's. It seemed like it just got underneath this glove.
Yeah. No error on the play. That one was just hit hard.
And it will be the seven hitter, Jonah Hane, who is one for two.
Steps up to bet left-handed. First pitch hits the inside corner for strike one.
No, Rocco Titino, the third baseman, seemed to be coming in on that play looking for a bunt.
Yeah, he's playing in. That one is fouled.
back towards the press box and Tanuta does look like he's ranging shallower as McLaughlin is getting
ready for the delivery. Checks the runner quickly. The pitch and that is popped up to the left side.
Tanuta is under it and he will make the catch. So that is three outs after a base hit and that will be
the end of the top of the sixth. We are going to the bottom.
bottom of the six, Chargers still lead four to two. You are listening to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale
101.7 FM. We'll be back after this. Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English
language 60 seconds out of time. I'm Lauren Smith, and today we're going to talk about the difference
between me neither and me either. Depending on who you ask, there really isn't one. Colloquially,
they do both mean the same thing, so I'm in the camp that says they're pretty much interchangeable
with a slight preference for me neither.
Actually, both phrases are probably grammatically wrong
for somewhat complicated reasons I'm not going to drag us through.
On the internet, you will sometimes see people argue
that me neither is used to agree with negative statements,
such as I don't eat grass, me neither,
while me either is used to agree with positive statements.
They typically don't give an example of that latter case,
and I'm pretty sure that's because there's not one.
I certainly couldn't think of any.
So the summary on this issue is don't use either one in formal writing,
but also don't get too picky in a casual conversation.
That's your Grammar Minute.
Visit thegramomit.com for more tips and tricks.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.7 FM.
I'm Christian Papi.
I'm Daniel Dengowski.
And we are coming into the bottom of the sixth inning
with a 4-2 Chargers lead.
And Jared Horstyn is still on the mound for Ohio Dominican.
He has only given up one run and one hit this game.
so far he's going to be facing Tyler Turner to start the inning and it looks like there's a little bit
of activity in the charger bullpen I think that is Brody Romick warming up and Turner is coming up to the plate
McLaughlin has pitched well this game it'll be interesting to see if he gets the seventh inning
after this Turner over two on the day
As he steps up, Horstyn comes set, ready to deliver the first pitch.
And that one is in the dirt bowl one.
Close inside one, but see if he goes back there.
He comes the 1-0. That one is grounded up the left side, right to third base.
A throw across the diamond in time.
Really nice diving stop there by Mason Hess at 3rd.
And Turner is out by a little more than a step.
number 34 Logan
Deichler is at the plate
also O for two
to face Jared Horstyn
We are here with one out
In the bottom of the sixth
The first pitch
And that misses just a little bit
That's ball one
Logan Deichler takes the next pitch
Also a ball
It's 2 and O
A hitter's count now for the catcher
Orston is coming set
and throws
and that one is just a bit inside
that's ball three
I don't think you give him the green light on this one
no
timeouts called
it says like the umpire
the first base umpire called something
it doesn't not a parent who called it
particularly but
it's three oh count
that one he does have the green light
but he flies it into
mid-depth right field and that will be an easy catch for Carson Willis.
So Billy Paraski will come up to the plate now with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning here.
He's 0 for one today.
But with the hit by pitch, Horstyn's first offering and that gets away from the catcher ball one.
So past ball, no, it's so much a wild pitch,
seemingly it just gleamed off the top of his glove.
Yeah, it doesn't really matter with no one on base, so it's just a ball.
And that one misses a little bit up, that's ball two.
Kind of want to make him throw you a strike on this one.
And there it is, that's strike one.
It's two and one count.
We still have some pitchers warming up for both bullpens.
one wonders how much longer Horstyn is going to have in this game.
Paratsky checks up and that's ball three.
It looked like he wanted to swing but then it was up and inside and he checked up just in time.
3-1 and that's called for strike two.
It's a full count with two outs now on Billy Paratsky.
Horstyn comes set, the delivery.
And that's a grounder and that's off the play.
plate foul.
Down chopped it foul.
Good effort.
Just got a piece of that to stay alive.
Making Horstyn throw him another pitch.
Parrotsky steps back in the box.
Horstin comes set.
The pitch.
And that one misses high.
That's ball four.
Parachsky is on base.
That will bring up the shortstop, Aaron Jasek.
Jasek is
Aaron.
O for two today.
Hitting over 300 on the season.
A really good hitter to have in the bottom of the lineup.
He can turn it over to the productive top of the lineup really well
because he's not one of those typical nine hitters.
The first pitch is called for strike one.
And Pirozky takes a relatively small lead off of first.
The pickoff move.
And Parratsky dives back with plenty of time.
No attempt to tackle.
them there just to throw over and check his lead.
Yes, more of, you know, I know what you're doing there sort of thing.
J-Sig pops that up in the infield second baseman is calling for it,
and Grand Horn will make the catch at second.
So Chargers get a base runner, but no more runs.
And after the top of the six, the Chargers are leading, or after the bottom of the six,
the Chargers are leading four to two.

That's when he murdered his pregnant girlfriend.
He arrived at her house somewhere around 9 p.m., stabbed, strangled, and bludgeoned her.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
We are coming into the top of the seventh inning, and after throwing six strong innings, giving up only two runs, they've called it a day for Logan McLaughlin, and now is relief pitcher Patrick McLean coming into the game.
McLean has been very good out of the bullpen recently for the Chargers.
He's usually their eighth inning guy.
He's coming into the seventh and going to try to get some outs here for the Chargers, preserving that four to two lead.
And it'll be Noah's shot at the plate for the first batter.
Shot steps up to the plate.
And McLean comes set and the pitch.
And that's a hard hit into left field.
That's a base hit for Noah's shot on the first pitch he sees this inning.
No shot for Jasek.
That ball was hit.
Just to his right, our left, skipped into left field.
Yep.
So McLean is going to face the next hitter, Grant Horn, the pitch, and that's high ball one.
McLean has a 1.56 earned run average this season.
two saves and he's only given up three runs in 17 innings of work that pitch is a big swing and a miss
that's strike one and it's a one one count now on grand horn it's a four two lead for the chargers in the
top of the seventh mclean is going to throw the pitch that one is in the left center field gaps
wenson ranging dives misses it and that's going to be extra bases he's going to be extra bases he's going
for third base and he's going to dive in safely with an RBI triple.
A big triple for Grand Horn.
It scores Noah's shot from the first.
Swenson just missed that one out in the center it seemed.
Tough play.
I mean, I don't think he could have played that conservatively.
I don't think he could have had time to get around and hold the ball up and hold him to a double.
I think he had to go for the catch there and fortunately didn't make it, but we'll see.
What the chargers can do now, they can maintain this lead.
Now, four to three.
And his leadoff hitter, Gavin Lawler, he tries to check his swing, does not check it, and that's strike one.
Gavin Lawler won for three today with a double, and a big swing and a miss that looked like
That was a breaking ball that fooled him.
We have nobody out, a runner on third base,
and then no balls two strikes on the batter, Gavin Lawler.
McLean comes set, and the delivery.
And that one is in the dirt, ball one.
Got a one-two count.
Panthers have 11 hits this game, but only three runs to show for it.
And that's fouled up the left side.
Nice catch there by the third base coach.
nonchalant just left hand snag yeah hit pretty hard and then he just grabs it
mclean set the one two pitch and fouled up the right side first base coach tries to make a play on
that one but he missed it maybe needs to get some more reps in in practice yeah that was it a little
farther away from him that's easy for the third base coach yeah
another one two to loller and that is fouled most like he fouled it off himself and it's straight down bounced right up his body and then the catcher barehand and threw back to the pitcher it's still a one-two count another one-two and that is called strike three that's one out so first out of the inning for pat mclean and we'll have stephen chapman who is two for three at the plane he has a runner on third with one out
out. It's had a solid game today. McLean sets, delivers, and that gets away from the catcher.
Runner's coming home and he scores. It's a tie game. Tied at four here in the seventh inning.
And it will be Chapman still hitting with a 1-0 count. Nobody on now. Tie-game. And McLean comes set.
The 1-0. Checks his swing, ball two.
I mean, if you're thinking about efficiency, the Chargers and Panthers both have four hits.
I mean, four runs, but the Panthers have 11 hits to the Chargers five.
So generally speaking, charges have been better at keeping runners on,
as that's a long drive to left and an amazing grab by Jake Figman out there in left field over the shoulder grab to rob extra bases from Stephen Chapman.
He caught that just about at the warning track.
also it probably 320310
Amazing catch saving
Potentially double
Maybe even a triple
Yeah
That one
Definitely robbed extra bases
From Chapman
Who's been swinging a hot bet today
First pitch to Trace Chaffin
Is called a strike
And McLean has two outs now
No one count
Nobody on
That one is outside
A 1-1 count
Janefins steps back in.
McLean comes set and throws the pitch.
That one is grounded over to JASIC.
And the throw to first scooped up, gets him in time.
And McLean gives up two runs, but no more than that.
And we're going into the bottom of the seventh inning with a 4-4 tie
after the Panthers tack on two runs.
This is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
We'll be back after this.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and this episode was requested by a grammar fan from Florida.
This episode, by the way, as you may have noticed, is free.
You're getting it for free.
Or are you?
The economist in me wants to say that it's not free.
It's zero cost, so there's one problem.
But the other problem, which is more relevant to grammar, is that free isn't a noun.
It's an adjective, meaning that it describes a noun.
And four is a preposition which must perceive.
seat a noun. So for free is wrong because it's a preposition and not a noun. This runs into all
kinds of problems. You want to say that you're listening to this episode for free. So are you listening
to this episode free or freely? And does that even mean the same thing? For free is broadly
accepted in modern English and is even included in the Collins English dictionary. Personally, I think
the distinction is interesting, but I don't mind this expression at all. That's your grammar minute.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
We're going to the bottom of the seventh inning in a 4-4 tie.
The Panthers got two runs off of Charger reliever Patrick McLean and the top of the inning.
And we're going up to the top of the lineup for the Chargers.
It'll be Garts-Wenson leading off.
We have a new pitcher in the game for the Panthers.
Jared Horstyn through three innings gave up one earned run.
and now it's going to be Andrew Mock, another right-hander for Ohio Dominican coming in for the seventh.
Panther hitters have been hot today, getting 11 hits total so far.
Only four runs to show for it, having a little bit of trouble generally scoring those runners once they get on base.
Chargers have only five hits, but four runs.
Swenson is stepping up to the plate for his at bat.
He is one for one today with two walks and a stolen base.
And two runs scored for that matter.
Mock comes set and the delivery.
And that is called strike one.
Wenson is ready.
Muck comes set.
The pitch.
That one misses low.
And that is ball one.
Good.
Interesting windup.
and with his feet diagonal facing the battery.
Yeah.
And that one is outside for ball too.
Kind of an interesting stance from Mock as he's getting ready to deliver.
Not much of a windup.
And that is hit into center field, ranging back.
It's at the wall, and it's over his head,
and he can't handle it.
Swenson is running to third base, and he's diving, and he's in there.
it looks like that's probably going to be a triple for Swenson
unless they decided to charge an error to center fielder Gavin Lawler.
It looked like to me though it just was hit over his hand.
He started backpedaling.
It looks a little too early,
which is why he ended up not being able to make the play, I think.
So I wouldn't be surprised if they gave him an error though.
The Chargers have a runner on third base with nobody out.
And it'll be the third base from Rocco Tanuta at the plate.
Tanuta takes ball one.
He is one for three today with an RBI single.
No error given.
Yep.
Looks like that's just going to be a triple for Swenson.
A swing and a miss for Tanuda.
That's ball one.
Strike one, my mistake.
It's a one-one count.
Mock is set.
Pitch.
Tenuda hits that one deep to right, left field.
It's back.
And it's caught by the left fielder.
Swenson is tagging.
He will score easily.
But wow, what a catch there by the left fielder.
Jonah Hane, robbing extra bases from Tanuta.
Chargers still get a run out of it on the sacrifice fly.
But what a play.
Real tough play to make.
and he went right into the wall after making that catch.
Really good play saved.
Extra bases and a man possibly on second or third.
Yeah.
I mean, Swenson was scoring that regardless.
Even if the left fielder had a good recovery,
Swenson's just too fast and he would have scored on the sack fly.
But the catch still saved a runner one out with a run scored
is better than having a runner on second with no outs.
Nolan Copens steps in
and the pitch is in the dirt for ball one
it's now a five to four lead for Hillsdale
in the bottom of the seventh inning
the delivery that's hit foul on the left side
and it looks like it's in the Ohio Dominican bullpen
in the vicinity it's a one-and-one count now on Copens
and we have mock coming set
the pitch
Looks like a breaking ball misses high, and it's a two-and-one count.
There's a little more motion on the second ball that pitch was setting something up.
Two-one.
That one is fouled back, and it's a two-and-two count here with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
It seemed to have a little drop on it.
I can't tell if that was a slider, a curveball, or something else,
but definitely followed that same tunnel the previous pitch had.
And that is chopped foul.
It looked like he hit it off his leg.
He's taking a little bit of a break.
And Mock's catcher is coming to talk to him a little bit.
As Copens takes a little bit of a break.
Chargers next game will be on Wednesday here at Lenten and Glenda Hill Stadium against Devonport University.
Make sure to come and check that one out where they play that.
And it looks like Copens has recovered.
covered he's back in the batters box
mock comes at the delivery
another foul
down the left field
line and out of play
crush that ball
foul
one of those foul
ball home runs and
we have
pitchers ready
and that one's an inside pitch
up the right side and that's going to be
a base hit for Copens
just a
well-placed grounder up the right side there to bring up jakeman figman one for two on the day
with an rbi i having a good day today and he steps up with one out and a runner on first base
mock checks the runner come set and the pitch and that one just misses that's ball one
came in just a little high runner not
quite towards the grass, but getting a fairly middle of the road lead.
Yeah.
Plenty of time to get back in the event of a pickoff attempt.
Figman fouls that one back, and it'll be a one-and-one count.
Figman is ready, the swing, and it's fouled straight back over the press box.
Out into the parking lot, probably.
I'll see if I can snag that on my way out.
Yeah. Figmund batting. Chargers with a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Have a runner on first one out. One-two count. The pickoff attempt. No tag attempt. Copens makes it back easily. Another one of those just try to keep them honest pickoffs in a legitimate attempt to get an out. The one-two is in the dirt. Copens hurries back to first. Briefly thought about taking the extra big.
base there. And we're a two-two count on Jake Figman with one out. Mock is coming set. Delivery that's
grounded up the left side to short. No time to get the runner at second. The throw to first gets
Figman by a step. Very close play. No room for error there. Yeah. Good throw.
Catch. Smart play by the shortstop, not to attempt to double play because there's no way they were getting copens at second. And then if they tried, Figman is safe at first by a mile. So they get one out, runner advanced to second. Tyler Sowers at the plate. The first pitch is low and it's ball one. Tyler Sowers, one for three today at the designated her position with two runs batted in. And that pitch is in the dirt, the throat of three.
third is high and copens will take third on a pitch that's in the dirt that was a little bit both on
the pitcher both on the catcher not a complete passball or drop but yeah just an unfortunate circumstance
the two-o pitch is in there for a strike maybe a perfect throw to the third baseman gets him at
third but otherwise it was just in the dirt it was a well-timed decision to run by copens uh fouled up the left
side and that will be two balls and two strikes with two outs a runner on third base for the chargers
and tyler sowers at the plate looks like he's getting a little bit more pine tar on his bat
and he's gonna step back up into the batters box
Mock ready to throw the two-two pitch.
And that is called strike three.
So Mock escapes the inning, only giving up one run.
The Chargers lead five to four after seven innings of play.
We're going to go to a short break.

Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. This is Charger Baseball. I'm Christian. I'm Daniel.
And we're here in the top of the eighth inning. The Chargers have a five to four lead.
and Pat McLean is coming back out to pitch the eighth inning.
He gave up two runs in the seventh.
Chargers got one back in the bottom of the inning.
Now lead five to four.
We'll see if McLean can hold the lead this time against Carson Willis.
The first pitch is in there for a called strike.
And McLean has been a really good pitcher this year so far.
He had a bit of a hiccup in the seventh, but he's been consistent so far.
and that's in there for another called strike quick 0 and two count for mclean against carson millis we have braden reid in the on deck circle
that one misses high and outside that is ball one we have a one and two count nobody out the pitch and that one misses inside that one was pretty close good take to have with two
strikes though for the batter the two two is in there called strike three that's one out willis doesn't
seem all that happy about that though no definitely definitely expecting another chance to get back up there
and hit especially when you're only down one um close calls like that can make the batter mad even if
it's the the correct call if it's borderline you want to get that call and brayden
read now to face mclean that one's inside for a ball one o steps back in mclane comes set the pitch
and a check swing foul back and it's one and one clang getting a lot of command over his pitches right now
covering from his hiccup in the seventh it seems like he's found his rhythm and he's working
through these batters now wants to just attack the zone as much as he can
The pitch that's grounded over to third, Tanuta with the hard throw and he gets the out.
Really nice heads up play by Tanuta ranging in on that soft ground ball and he gets the out.
So there are two outs now and the six hitter Mason Hess at the plate.
One for three on the day.
And McLean has had a good eighth inning so far.
We have first pitch.
And that's a little high ball one.
McLean is coming set again, ready to work quickly.
The pitch.
Check swing.
And it looks like he went.
That's a strike.
I really seen that he went around and then decided that he shouldn't have swung.
Yeah, sometimes it's just too late.
That one is inside ball two.
You know, those check swings sometimes you see it looks good,
and then right after you've committed to swing,
you see it's moving outside or dropping below the zone or something.
Yeah, too late to pull back.
Very unfortunate, but...
That one is chopped foul up the third baseline,
and it's two and two.
McLean has really been attacking the zone this inning
after giving up a couple of runs in the seventh.
He's been throwing a lot of strikes.
And that one is just misses.
That one is ball three.
McLean thought that was a strike,
but now we have a full count on Mason Hess.
The pitch, a swing and foul back.
Still a full count with two outs in the top of the eighth inning.
Income set.
That is lined into left field,
Figman ranging back. It's in the gap and Hess is going to run to second with a stand-up double.
So after almost getting a called strike on that pitch, a couple of pitches later he gets a double.
And that brings up Jonah Hayne to hit with a runner on second and two outs.
McLean probably just wants to throw more, some strikes, attack the zone.
Hope to get a quick out here.
they're bringing in a pinch runner for Mason Hess.
It's going to be number 33.
Will Shermer get some speed, try to, you know, tie the game here.
Hane represents the go-ahead run at the plate.
Shermer is the tying run on second.
Pitch, misses inside, that's ball one.
And McLean is going to come set.
pitch clock at 10 throws swing and a miss strike one if you swing the pinch runner getting a bit of a jump as it's not committing to going we'll see what he does on this pitch yeah i mean he's been put in to run he's gonna try to do whatever he can to tie the game here and that one is a strike it's a one and two count especially in in the eighth inning you gotta just do whatever you can to tie the game here and that one is a strike it's a one and two count especially in especially in the eighth inning you gotta just do whatever you can do whatever you can
can to tie the game.
That pitch is just inside ball two.
And we have a two-two count with two outs, a runner on second.
Chargers holding onto a 5-4 lead here in the top of the eighth inning.
Oh, the Chargers bench wanted that call.
Yeah.
And that is grounded right to Perotsky at second, throws to Copens, and that will be the third out.
McLean escapes a little bit of trouble with a scoreless inning,
and we're heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.
Chargers lead five to four.
This is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM, and we'll be back after this.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds out of time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and today we're going to talk about the difference between me neither and me either.
Depending on who you ask, there really isn't one.
Colloquially, they do both mean the same thing,
so I'm in the camp that says they're pretty much interchangeable
with a slight preference for me neither.
They typically don't give an.
example of that latter case and I'm pretty sure that's because there's not one. I certainly
couldn't think of any. So the summary on this issue is don't use either one in formal writing,
but also don't get too picky in a casual conversation. That's your Gramer Minute. Visit thegramomor
Minut.com for more tips and tricks. Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale
101. 101. I'm Christian Papuil. Daniel Daryngowski. We're here in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Chargers lead the Panthers five to four.
There's a new pitcher on the mound for Iod Dominican.
It is Andrew Holcomb, coming in relief of Andrew Malk.
So he's going to try to hold the Chargers scoreless
so the Panthers have a chance to tie into the top of the 9th.
It will be Tyler Turner, Logan Dykler, and Billy Perotsky,
as the hitters this inning for the Chargers.
The Chargers got into a little bit of trouble in the top of the 8th.
We're able to hold the Panthers scoreless after giving up a double.
Tyler Turner steps up to try to get something started for the Chargers in this inning.
They would love to extend their lead, give their closer a little bit of a cushion as they head into the top of the 9th.
And Holcomb is coming set.
his first pitch is way up there and that's a ball.
Interesting to see if Hillsdale gets a man on base what their strategy would be.
The 1-0 is low.
Definitely it's, I mean, you're probably just trying to get one run, two runs.
I mean, a 6-4 lead is much lower pressure for the reliever even than a 5-4 lead.
So 2-0 on Turner.
The pitch misses outside.
It's ball three.
Big hitters count.
Probably want to make him just attack the zone with this one.
Don't want to give them a free strike if you don't have to.
The pitch.
And that misses inside.
That's ball for.
Tyler Turner walks on four pitches to reach base.
And that will be Logan Dykler at the plate.
He's over three on the day today.
Oh, no.
We have a pinch hitter.
Sorry, for Logan Dykler.
It will be Carson Tucker.
Number 25, the pinch hitter is hitting 286 on the season, and he comes in to try to move the runner.
The pitch, Tucker shows bunt, pulls back, and is called for strike one.
It looks like they're just trying to move the runner's manufacturer run here.
Tucker shows bunt again.
There's a back-pick attempt, and that will be he pulled the bunt back in time, ball one.
Back pick attempt unsuccessful as Turner makes it back to first in time.
Looks like pitcher Holcomb is looking for the signal.
He comes in, the pitch clock down to five, four, three, two.
And there's the pickoff attempt and Turner makes it back.
Used up all of that pitch clock on that time.
He checks the runner.
The pitch shows bunt.
It's bunted.
Turner's going.
And Carson Tucker's going.
with a sacrifice bond to move Tyler Turner into scoring position with one out.
And it's Billy Paraski at the plate.
I think it's probably a good strategy.
The bottom of the lineup has pretty good average,
and if they can, one of them gets on, you turn it right back to the top.
Guard Swenson has not been retired yet today.
And it's Paraski with the pitch, and that misses high, that's ball one.
And pitch with a man on second, we'll see if he can pull
in the, uh,
anthers infield playing in.
One o is fouled back.
That's strike one.
Ohio Dominican's second baseman is also shifted pretty far towards the left side.
He's almost right by second to hold the runner.
Holcomb checks the runner quick.
Checks again and another check.
And he will throw the pitch.
And it's up in a way that's ball two.
It's a two-one count here with one out.
Chargers have a runner on second and a five-to-four lead in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Panthers have out hit the chargers 12 to 7,
but the chargers have just, they have more walks and more run.
It's to show for it.
And a hot shot to the third baseman, he just can't handle it.
It kind of eats him up there.
No runner advances, but Paraski,
makes it to first base safely on what's probably going to be an error for the third baseman will shirmer
so aaron jesick is up one out runners on first and second for jacic just a difficult play to make there
yep and it was registered isn't there makes sense that's jacic swings at the first pitch
Fells it back
And that's strike one
J-Sick was ready for that one
Comes back in
Quick look at the runner on first
For Holcomb
Look at the runner on second
Still looking
The pitch
And it's outside
And it's a one-on-one
Almost looked a bit like a pitch-out attempt there
If Turner tried to steal third
On that pitch
pitch misses up and it's a two one count
infield playing pretty close to double play depth shortstop is barely in the outfield
grass second baseman shaded a little bit closer towards the bag
the two one pitch is fouled back and it's two and two now one out
guard swenson in the on deck circle he is two for two today with two walks
and a big triple.
So if Jason can get on,
well that's called strike three on J-Sync.
Swenson will step up to the plate with two outs,
runners on first and second.
Number 16 guard, Swenson.
Big day at the plate for Swenson so far.
He will step up to the plate.
Holcomb comes set,
checks the runner,
and the pitch, and that is flown into center field.
It looks like it's right at him, and that will be the third out of the inning.
So the Chargers make some noise, but don't come up with any runs.
We're going to go into the bottom of the ninth inning,
and it looks like we're going to have McLean try to close out this game.
This is Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.

Soon, his tent was overflowing
and Graham would rise to lead America's

Welcome back to Charger Baseball
on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
I'm Christian.
I'm Daniel.
We're here in the top of the ninth inning.
The Chargers holding on to a five to four lead.
And we have Pat McLean on the mound to try to close this out.
He came in in the seventh inning, gave up two runs,
but then had a fairly easy eighth inning.
And if he closes out this game, he's going to get the win.
Logan McLaughlin had a solid start for the Chargers.
Only gave up two runs through six.
And then he was relieved by McLean.
McLean's first pitch of the inning is called strike one.
Noah shot the catcher at the plate, two for three today.
McLean comes set, the O-1.
Outside.
The catcher tried to frame that one a bit.
Didn't get the call from the umpire.
No luck there.
McLean ready to throw a pitch again.
And that one is hit into right field.
A diving catch.
What a catch there by the right field.
Tyler Turner.
Saved extra bases probably there.
That was something.
Really good defense overall by the Chargers.
A little bit early in the game, a couple of misplays.
But generally speaking, really nice defensive plays.
Ios been a team that has just been putting barrel to the ball
and putting the ball in play.
Sometimes it's gotten away from the Chargers,
but overall they've done a good job of keeping the ball in front of them and denying extra bases and getting outs when they can.
We have a pinch hitter in for the Chargers.
It will be Garrett Roach steps up.
He swings at Strike 1.
That one is fouled back.
It's going to be an 0-and-two count here.
One out, nobody on.
Chargers leave 5 to 4 in the ninth inning.
Chargers aiming for a series split here.
They won the first game on Friday before losing both games of the doubleheader yesterday.
That is swing popped up in the infield to Nuda going for it,
and he will make the catch close to the pitcher's mound.
Two outs, and the Panthers are down to their last out,
and it's Gavin Lawler stepping up to the plate for the Panthers again.
Lawler 1 for 4 today with a double.
Maclean
ready to pitch.
Come set and the delivery.
Called strike one.
Good at bat here.
Hopefully,
what the Panthers are hoping for,
they can get on base and extend this inning with two outs.
And the 0-1 pitch just misses inside.
It's one-and-one now with two outs.
One ball, one strike, two outs.
Chargers lead 5 to 4, and that one is in the dirt. That's going to be ball 2.
We have two outs for McLean. The wind has picked up a little bit again, blowing out to left field slightly.
The 2-1 misses a little bit outside. It's going to be ball 3.
McLean in his third inning of work on track for the win if he closes this out.
The 3-1 is high, ball 4.
And Gavin Lawler will reach base with the walk.
And that will bring up Steve Chapman.
Chapman's not the hitter you really want to face this game.
He's two for four.
He had a deep flyout earlier in the game.
It was almost three for four today, and he has a double.
Want to watch out for this hitter.
McLean comes set.
The pitch.
And that's fouled back, and that is strike one.
Chapman is looking to drive in a run.
Lawler might be looking to steal.
He's not taking that much of a lead, though.
And that pitch is low, ball one.
Runners think fairly conservative is second baseman is cheating a little bit towards the bag.
I'm sure that they've already thrown one runner out.
One one is in the dirt ball too.
Yeah, I mean, you want to get a run,
but you'd also want to give them a free out on the bases.
And Chapman has had a good enough day,
and he's a good enough hitter that they're probably confident
that if they're going to score a run,
it's going to be because Chapman drives him in.
Just checks up on that one.
That one must have just missed the zone,
and it's called ball three.
A little bit of a motion from the Hillsdale bench,
so wanting that call.
And Hillsdale has someone in the bullpen.
That pitch is a swing, fouled back,
Strike two. It's a full count now on Stephen Chapman. Three balls, two strikes, two outs. Chargers lead five to four. And there's a runner on first for a higher Dominican.
Plain is coming set. Going to throw the payoff pitch. Runner goes. Called strike three. The ball game is over. The Chargers win five to four after McLean battles through three innings. Really good performance.
overall by the Charger defense
to win this game 5 to 4.
Chargers
salvage a series split at home
against Ohio Dominican
and they will
be ready to face
Devonport University on Wednesday.
