Hello and welcome to Chargers baseball.
This is Connie Fuller, speaking.
We'll be going to sideline interviews with Hannah Connolly in just a moment.
I'm here with Will Mallard, catcher for the Charger baseball team.
Will, what do you think are some key factors that you all have to focus on in order to walk out today with a win against Tiffin?
So you get a win today, we really just need to have a lot of energy in the dugout.
It's cold out.
just being with one another, just making sure everyone knows that we're behind you is really important for today.
And can you give me some insights into the team's chemistry and why that's so significant to your team's success in today's game, but also every game?
I mean, we've been around each other every day for the past couple months.
We're all brothers and it's really important just to, again, have that energy and know that we have each other's back.
No matter the error, great hit, we're supporting each other and know that we're going to come out with a win today.
Awesome. Thank you, Will.
I'm here with Tom Vassella, head coach of the Charger Baseball team,
a couple of hours before their first game of the weekend against Tiffin.
Coach, as you were practicing this week for this weekend series,
what were some specific things that you and the team were focused on to prepare to play Tiffin?
Just paying attention to the details.
It's a lot of little things.
We've been playing pretty well, but when we forget about the little things
and guys are taking extra bags or we're walking somebody, like they always take advantage of it.
And, you know, it's hard to play from behind.
So pay attention, get out early, and then, you know, we'll see what happens.
And after reflecting on last weekend series against Finley,
what are some adjustments and improvements that the team has been focusing on this week
to better prepare for this series?
We have to eliminate the free backs.
Like, it walks, hit by pitches, stolen bases, those things have been killing us.
And Finley did a really good job of exposing and taking advantage of the things that we gave home.
If we cut that in half, we'll be in a position to win a lot more baseball games.
Awesome. Thank you, coach.
No problem.
I'm here with Pat McLean, pitcher for the charger base.
football team. Pat, what is something that you have learned from your games against Finley last week?
And how have you worked through that to use it to improve for this weekend series?
I think just coming out with more confidence this week will help a lot.
Last week kind of came out a little slow. So more confidence this week.
And can you talk a little bit about any specific game day routines you feel like you have to do to get in the right head space to be prepared for a game?
I usually just like to have a water, granola bar, sometimes snickers.
I'm feeling crazy.
So, yeah.
All right, thanks, Matt.
Cursonson.
You're joining us with a game already in progress.
The count is one and two on our first batter here, Katie.
And we are seeing Tommy McLean pitching for the Chargers.
A little foul ball down the first base line.
coach for Tiffin.
Today is blowing in, unlike last weekend.
And the delivery end the pitch, and is a Colt Strike 3.
Nice throw around from the team.
And so we will be seeing up next, Dutcheel, who is the designated hitter.
Duttle has a 365 batting average this season.
All right, they called ball for McLean on Dutcheel.
One out.
Two balls, no strikes.
One out.
A three degree afternoon in Hillsdale.
Oh, a big pop up down the left side field.
Looks like it's going to be a foul ball.
Two balls and one strike.
The wind today is blown.
fairly strong into right or to left field today partly cloudy it's a little chilly for a baseball
it is pretty chilly not envious of the pitcher's hands yeah hold out there a clean delivers
and it's another ball so that's two balls three balls one strike I apologize for that and one out
Ditchell just has to dig in here see what happens
Oh, and that's ball four.
He sends up to first, and that brings up Swanger.
Swanger, our right fielder for today, for the Dragons.
We'll be coming up to bat.
So now man on first, one out.
Swonger up to bat, facing to clean.
The delivery.
Nice line drive right up the center.
That will advance.
So we have a man on first and second.
Katie on first, Ditchell on, I'm sorry, Ditchell on first, Katie on second.
At the bat number 19, Isaiah Mirabal.
Bear ball has a 352 batting average this season.
All right.
Delivery.
It is a ball.
Just a little bit inside.
Man on second and first, one out, one ball, no strikes.
With McLean, the pitcher facing Miraball.
Oh, a nice ground ball right to short.
And a double play.
And the side is retired.
And so we will go to the
bottom of the first
no score
and you're listening to
101.1.7 FM
charge radio.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute
where we're saving the English language
60 seconds at a time. I'm Lauren Smith
and here are some words you may have been using
that don't exist.
Runner-ups should be runners-up.
A lot is never one word
unless you're talking about, say,
allotting a piece of property.
A lot is two words.
Participator is...
No, it should be participant.
Mischievous should be mischievous, with three syllables instead of four.
Thusly, might be a favorite of college students writing papers, but it's not a word either.
Just say thus.
English is an ever-evolving language, and things change over time.
Just pick up a copy of Chaucer if you aren't sure how much they've changed.
When in doubt about whether a commonly used word is acceptable, consult a dictionary.
This can also help you judge whether the word is formal enough to be used in print.

Hello and welcome back to Hillsdale Chargers Baseball.
The dragons have put their picture out, Ben Hubert.
Let's see what high school has been from.
Ben Hubert is from Ontario Canada.
Kellogg looks like Kellogg's right-handed pitcher at 511 as a senior.
So we'll see him face off against the Chargers centerfielder.
Passinald then Cassinald.
Debtzano.
Super deals.
Oh, he bit
deals.
Cold strike one.
Go bed.
Passing all did not swing at that one.
Super deals again.
Oh, swings and misses a little tip fall behind him.
He's now in a hole, two and out.
Shakes one off.
A little bit of a pause and delivers.
Oh, far outside of the left.
Passing all is 175 on the season with 17 at bat, so far.
We'll see what he can do today.
We can see if you can knock one into play and get to start it off on this inning.
I would hope so.
Hubert deals.
Ooh, a nice little tip foul, but isn't caught.
Right off the knuckles look like.
Yeah, just real close in on.
His hands, not much of an opportunity for him to hit it, just more of a defense of the plate.
So.
Come on, Ben, here go, kid.
See where he goes from here.
Hubert prepares.
And the delivery.
Ooh, a little bit high.
So now the count is even two and two.
Nice battle back from Pasoenol.
Bring himself into a fighting chance here.
And the delivery.
Another ball.
A little bit high.
this one much closer.
Personnel has fought himself back into a perfect position.
And we'll see where Hubert decides to put this one
to try to out smart Pasoenal.
Wind blowing infield.
Put the left and the delivery.
Oh, a pop fly right into the center field
that might into the gap.
Oh, yep, hits into the gap.
Makes a turn at first but goes back.
And a nice little single to battle back from that rough first count.
Just dropped right in the middle of all of them.
Yeah.
Second baseman had a shot at it, but couldn't quite make it.
It was right in that little middle section where he just couldn't make a play on it.
It's, you know, set anybody's ball and no one got to it.
Maybe the Bermuda Triangle.
Yeah, something like that.
Will Shannon.
So we'll see Will Shannon come to play.
The man on first.
Shannon is 361 on the season.
That's not a bad average at all.
Not at all.
See if he can keep it up.
Ooh, a nice little.
speeder high and inside on him took it with calm decisiveness looking over to the first base
coach steps back into the plate pairs Hubert deals and there we go that's a strike down the
center I don't know why I said there we go it's not our team but little nervous here
and one even count.
Shannon does a little wiggle.
It prepares for the ball.
And Hubert delivers.
Oh, a nice shot right down the center.
Seems that it might have hit the pitcher.
It's a double play.
Shortstop picked it up, tossed it to the second basement and threw it to first.
It's right off the pitcher, but it seems the pitcher is doing all right.
It's a really scrappy play by Tiffin, but hey, you know what?
They made it work.
Yep.
And that will bring up Landis, face Hubert, Jeff Landis from Midland, Michigan.
Hitting 290 on the season, the 17 at-bats.
That's not bad at all either.
He's getting pretty close to three there.
All outside from Hubert, just a little bit.
And it's a big boy.
It used to be about 6'1, 250 pounds.
Wouldn't want to pitch a nice ball for him.
The delivery.
Oh, a nice pop down the first base line, but it's foul ball.
We've got an even count, one ball, one strike, two outs.
Chargers, Jeff Landis, facing Dragons Finley, or Dragons Hubert.
I apologize.
Hubert prepares.
Delivers.
Oh, and a wonderful shot, but it seems like it's going to go right to the right fielder.
And so that's going to be out number three.
So next we'll see Thaman facing off with Hillsdale.
you are listening to 101.7 FM
Phil Still Chargers Radio.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute,
where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and I'm here to talk about the golden rule of commas.
It's going to be a lot simpler than it sounds.
Are you ready? Here it is.
When in doubt, don't use them.
Let me explain.
People are often tempted to put commas in places they don't really belong.
A common mistake, for example, is to put them between,
independent clauses, such as I went to the store, comma, and then the park.
This is just an unnecessary slowdown for your reader, and it can imply separation of ideas
that actually go together. If you say a sentence out loud and don't stop to take a breath,
you probably don't need to put a comma there. Give your reader the freedom to skim. Don't
slow them down when you don't have to. If you're not certain whether your sentence needs a comma,
chances are it doesn't. In writing, it's better to be a fast talker with fewer commas,
than a slow talker with commas every few words.
That's your grammar minute.
Hello and welcome back to Hillsdale Chargers baseball.
At the top of the second, we'll see McQueen back as pitcher.
And we will be seeing this is, so sorry, one second,
Thaman, Faman facing off with McLean here to start the inning.
Tommy Thayman.
Tommy Thaman's from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Went to Elder High School.
The delivery, he puts down for a button and tips it.
Thamon's been Hank 333 this season with 42 at bats.
42 at bats.
It seems like they started a little bit earlier than our boys did.
Yeah, for sure.
Right, the delivery.
That's a little bit inside, so one-on-one count.
on payment
one one from mclean that's another strike
so mclean is ahead
oh i'm sorry yeah mclean is ahead in the count
a nice little chipper right to short to first
gets him in time
thaman hardly swung the bat all the way through
he just kind of stuck it out there worked out for him i guess little tip
but just didn't get a whole lot of swing on the ball
and therefore did it didn't really hit it all that well Connor Huzyka we see Connor
Huzica coming up to back Connor's hitting 278 on the season with 18 at bats
right the delivery check swing it looks like it did not go that's gonna be a ball
the appeal to the first base ump player yeah interesting seems like he was kind of
blocked by the casual yeah and delivery oh another check swing foul
Well, it's his first base coach, but it looks like he's all right.
So it's going to be one in one for Hisica.
That's going to hurt.
All right, one in one.
And the delivery.
A little bit of a low strike there.
One ball, two strikes, one out.
Here in the top of the second.
And the delivery.
Just a bit high.
So we're two and two.
The clean seems to be trying to paint the edges for him, the delivery.
A little bit low here into the dirt.
So we're going to have a full count here.
Nice battle for Hezica.
We got one out top of the second, no one on base.
Mr. Hezika facing.
The delivery outside, and that's a ball four, walks him.
That's going to be the second walk from McLean today.
And now we will see...
Out of bad. Number eight.
Calarajor coming up to the plate.
Cows 233 on the season.
How many...
43 plate appearances.
Okay.
Away from Ontario.
And the delivery.
Big pop fly out to the...
Behind the press box here.
Big foul.
Oh, and one with one out and a man on first here.
He takes a look at man on first and then sets.
Ooh, a pickoff.
Does not catch him.
Seems to be getting back.
Pretty conservatively, not taking too big of a lead here at first.
Just enough to scare McLean.
And the delivery.
Ooh, a big shot out to left field.
Line drive down the line.
Man the first will make it to third and it looks like
Brazier will make it two second.
A nice little double for Brazier.
And Zika makes it to third.
Got all the way back, bounced off the wall back there.
Yeah, that was a nice shot.
Very good contact.
Up to bat.
Now we'll see.
Ty Hatfield coming up to bat.
A man on second to third, he's got a chance to bring in some runs and take the lead for the dragons.
Clean sets and delivers.
sends it a little bit low
so that's going to be ball number one
clean
Hatfield's batting
250 on the season with 52
plate appearances
it's not bad at all
since it in
oh and a nice shot to
left field
little dribbler
and that will bring in
two runs for
the dragon
so is that one run
I apologize one run
NCB man on third
so we'll have a man on first and third
with one out
Up to bat, number 24, Aiden Grabowski.
And we'll see Grabowski facing McLean.
Seems to be a little bit of a discussion with the man on first.
Grabowski's got three RBIs this season.
That's not a great stat for our boys here.
See the delivery, a little bit high, and it's a pass ball.
Will it be able to get any time?
Nope, and that's going to drive.
in Brazier. No play at the plate either. Second run, yeah, he didn't even make a toss. Just
seem the McLean didn't get there in time. So with dragons, two up, Cleon will start the delivery
against Hatfield once again. I'm sorry, Grabowski. Hatfield's set. And that's a strike for
McLean on Grabowski. It's going to be one-in-one, one out. One out.
on second.
Man on second advanced from first during the pass ball.
And the delivery.
Pulled back bunt, but still is a strike.
That will be one ball, two strikes for Grabowski.
Cleeden seems to have settled down a little bit now.
A little bit less pressure on him.
Just trying to get out of the inning without any more damage.
A little bit high here for his one-two offering.
That's going to be two-and-two with one.
One out. Clean.
Fist down, Kvazki.
Sets and delivers.
Inside, this can be all three, so three and two.
Full count, one out, man on second.
Top of the second.
Clean sets and delivers.
And that's ball four.
That's four men on base for Tiffin.
And now we'll see Katie come to bat.
Up to bat.
This first time up, he struck out looking.
McLean sets.
And the delivery.
It's a nice line drive up the middle, right to the second basement.
He throws it to first, and that's two.
Out, and that's going to end the inning.
So we will see Sill come up to face the Dragons next inning,
and you're listening to 101.7.
FM Hillsdale Chargers Radio.
Welcome to the old ballgame, where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime.
I'm Tate Christensen.
Today we talk about the origin of baseball's favorite concession food, hot dogs.
At early ball games, there were no official concession stands, but local people would sell food to fans,
who tended to eat things you would eat without utensils.
And at the beginning of the 20th century, German immigrants began to help shape the culture,
and people began to love their docks and sausages, which were served with a milk roll in sourcrow.
In the 1860s, Chris von der Ahee, a German immigrant and owner of the St. Louis Browns, introduced the hot dog to baseball fans.
At first, they were served without buns, and instead, customers would keep the white gloves that the hot sausages were served on.
However, the gloves were eventually not being returned, and this frustrated the company.
Somewhere along the line, the split bun was introduced, and it fit just like a glove, and now countless hot dogs are eaten every ballgame.
This has been the old ballgame on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Hillsdale Charger Baseball.
We are in the bottom of the second inning here.
Two runs for Finley.
They scored off of a couple of line drives and some walks from McLean.
We got just a little bit nervous, it seemed like, and kind of lost a bit of control.
So now it's a Chargers game to catch back up and get some runs here.
Up to back from Mucigo, Michigan, number 22.
Jake and Silly.
Salie up to bat here.
Wonderful walk-up song is a while.
That's what I was thinking actually.
I don't think I could pick a walk-up song that wasn't just a little bit goofy, but
Salih at bat, facing, takes a pitch outside, ball one.
And we are, he's facing Hubert, the pitcher.
So charges have to catch up and make some noise here.
tapes it off of his own leg.
Ouch.
It does not look like a lot of fun, but he seems to be all right.
The announcer in the booth next to us said that to feel what a foul ball off the foot
feels like is a hammer in the toe.
I think it's a little bit worse than that, to be honest, because you're doing it to yourself.
It's just a little bit more painful when you take the hammer and hit your own foot with it,
at least in my opinion.
I will not be trying that at home.
No, I wouldn't.
If I were you.
No.
Silly, the delivery.
Check swing.
And that's going to be another ball.
Right on the paint.
Yeah, right up at his letters.
It's going to be two balls, one strike, no outs.
Bottom of the second for the chargers.
Ebert sets.
And the delivery.
Just a foul ball off the right, the first base side.
That's going to be two and two.
No outs.
Scalese got 64 plate appearances and an average of 281.
Not too bad.
Pretty well for that many plate appearances.
Two-two pitch.
Oh, a high flight left field.
Let's see.
Left fielder's on it.
Left fielder gets right on the warning track.
It picks it up.
It's going to be one-up, but it was a wonderful drive out to left field.
The power.
So.
Up to back from Centerville.
Ohio, number 17, Zach Kent.
All right, we'll see Zach Kent come up to plate facing Hubert.
Zach Kent's from Centerville, Ohio.
Hubert sets, and the delivery.
A little bit outside.
It's going to go for ball one.
Ken's batting 267 on the season with 29 at bats.
Wind's still blowing in.
Seems to be straight towards the plate now.
And the deal, that's going to be a high ball too.
Two and O for Kent.
Confident in the box.
Laney back a little.
Hubert sets and delivers, and that is going to be a strike
right down the center, it seems.
There's going to be two and one for Kent.
Kent still heading the count.
Hubert sets, delivers.
And that's a ball three, a little bit outside.
So we're going to see Ken go up high in the count
and get into a really beneficial position for himself.
Come, man, here go, kid.
Go be on bed.
Heapid deals, a 3-1.
And it's up pop fly to center.
Centerfielders is going to pick that up pretty easily.
And so that's going to be out number two.
Right against the win there with that hit.
Yeah, I think if it is just dead win,
That would have been a lot better than him.
We're just going straight up against the wind and nothing else helping it.
We'll see Joe Hartnberg step up to plate is from Northville, Michigan.
Hubert set the two last boys down on pop-outs.
Let's see if you can do it a third time.
To delivery.
Oh, a little shoot down to the first baseman who tosses it to the pitcher, Hubert,
and that is a third out.
Go boys, let's go.
So three up, three down, and we'll see Chargers try to hold on to the situation.
Then you're coming up the next thing.
So you're listening to 101.7 FM, Hills L Chargers Radio.
Welcome to the old ball game, where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime.
I'm Tate Christensen.
Today we talk about Jackie Mitchell, one of the first and one of the only female baseball players in baseball history.
Mitchell was born on August 29, 1913 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Growing up, Mitchell played many sports, including basketball, swimming, tennis, and baseball.
In her teenage years, the Mitchell family moved to Chattanooga, where she joined a baseball school
and scouts from the Chattanooga Lookouts saw her pitch.
In 1931, she signed a temporary contract with the Lookouts to play two exhibition games that year.
On April 2nd, 1931, in a game against the New York Yankees, Mitchell, at just 17 years old,
was put into pitch for the Lookouts.
The first batter she faced was Babe Ruth.
She threw three pitches to him, two swings and misses, followed by a called third strike.
After Ruth, Lou Gehrig was up to bat.
Again, she took only three pitches to ring him up.
Many people are skeptical of this game, however, and think that it was staged or was a publicity stunt.
Following this game, Mitchell played baseball on and off until her official retirement from baseball in 1937.
This has been the old ball game on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Hello, welcome back to Hillsdale Chargers baseball.
seeing the dragons beginning the inning for Tiffin.
Seems like we've had a change.
It's going to be Adam Dichel up to plate against McLean.
And the count is one ball, one strike.
A little bit high.
Dechle leads the dragons in his batting average batting 365 this year.
It's not bad at all.
takes another strike here two one top of the third and the delivery that's going to be a little bit
low so two and two Ditchell the delivery little line chopper to first first baseman will just
field it himself and that's going to be the first out for the end of the chargers let's go
it's a little DIY play there for will shannon yeah he just took care of it himself the
pitcher was there for him, but figured it would just be easier to take it himself.
Fair enough.
Logan Swanger.
So now we'll see Logan Swanger come to plate.
Swanger took a nice single first time.
We'll drill up the center.
The delivery.
A big swing and miss here.
That's a strike one for him.
So one strike, one out, no balls.
And the delivery.
That's going to be a little bit outside for Swangers.
That's one-on-one.
Queen seems to have settled down just
to pinch since his first inning.
He's a little bit more confident.
And the pitch.
Two strikes.
Can't get up there.
You got this.
Can't get up there.
Swanger steps back in.
And the delivery.
Ooh, a nice chop to the right field side.
Right field, though, will field it and toss it into seconds.
That's going to be a nice single for Swonger.
What a leap by Turner, though, at second base.
That was some air time there.
He definitely jumped quite a bit higher than I think I would be able to on that one.
He was inches from the ball, but not quite.
Yeah, he was real close to it.
So we'll see Mirabult come up to bat.
Isaiah Mirabal.
Clean sets, pairs himself and delivers.
Mirabal takes a strike, a little bit low.
There you go, kid.
Oh, one-out-dig-kn that, kid.
That big football.
Four hits now for the tip and drag.
And the delivery.
Big swing and a miss.
That's going to be two strikes, no balls, one out.
Swung around first for the dragons.
We've seen four hits for the dragons this so far.
See if we can control the bleeding.
A quick pick-off for first, but no dice.
She seems to try to hold them back on the bag
and make sure he knows to not test him.
Takes a small lead.
And the delivery from Clangeloved,
Oh, a nice big swing and a miss.
Nice strikeout.
Now we'll see Tommy Thameen come up.
Now batting number 10.
Tommy Thaman.
Thamon's from Cincinnati, Ohio.
He's batting 333 on the season.
Playing sets, delivers the Thamon.
Showed a bun to pull back and seem to be a diversion for a steel for second.
Soonger moves to second with.
very little attention there.
A little bit of an offline throw from Sully up behind the plate.
Yep.
Big swing, offline to the left field side goes foul.
The score is 2 to nothing for the dragons with a man on second.
And two outs.
Some activity in the Tiffin bullpen out there, left field.
Just a bit of warming up back.
there. Two guys playing catch? Yep. Yeah. Clean sets. Takes a peek at man on second and then delivers.
Little bunt goes foul to the left side, their base side. So it's going to be one ball, two strikes.
Four Thaman. And he's behind on the count here. The two outs, he's got to play a little bit more
conservatively and protect the plate here. Delivery. Big little drag.
to the right field short shot tries to grab and it's going to drive in swanger from
second and set a fame into first the scores now oh sorry oh just that ball just sailed right
yeah it it was a hard hit ball but it just took a big art right over uh coner huzica uh the
the the reach the second baseman and just dribbles out into the outfield
So now we've got Thaman on first.
Zika, up to bat, the delivery.
That's going to be a ball one on the inside.
Clean sets and delivers.
That's going to be one in one.
Nice strike there.
Tiffin's going to lead three-nothing in the top of the third
with one in the third and two in the second.
Clayne throws a pick-off first,
just again to remind the man on first to stand his base.
Clint's really staying on him.
Yeah, he seems to be just checking on them every once in all, making sure they don't get any funny ideas.
A little chipper to shortstop.
He's going to go right to first, and that's going to be the third out.
Nice little pause.
He's going to really lunch for that.
Yeah.
So that's going to be the third out of the inning.
Finley put up another run, and Hillsdale will now have to try to contend and get caught up.
So you're listening to 101.7 FM.
You're listening to What's in the Name.
Though this particular Michigan City's name at first look has a fairly simple origin story,
it's a bit more complicated than at first seems.
The name Detroit comes from a French word that means straight like a body of water,
which in turn comes from the city's positioning around the Detroit River.
The river comes from Lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes.
The city still remains as one of the oldest and most important cities in the Midwest.
So the name comes from French settlements in the early 18th century, which was roughly 300 years ago,
the land itself has been populated for over 11,000 years by many different peoples, including the Iroquois and the Huron.
Rich in resources, it was highly contested, and after many battles ultimately ended up within the United States,
first as a territory and then as part of the state of Michigan.
It has since earned the nickname of the Motor City due to its history with Henry Ford.
This has been What's in a Name.
My name is Megan Pitcock, and you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Chargers baseball.
Dragons still have Hubert out on the mound.
Still some activity out in the dragon bullpen,
but Hubert seems to be holding his position for now.
Chargers are going to have to try to dig their way out of a hole here.
They let up two in the second inning and one in the third.
A couple of hits from the dragons.
and have only one hit for themselves here.
So they're going to have to start getting on the board and start making some noise here.
Yeah, the dragons are really out hitting us, 5 to 1.
Yeah, I think the only hit we've had so far.
It's like it was in the first and I believe is Landis.
So we're going to have to make some noise here.
Now up to back from Potomac Falls for Jim.
Our way out of the only.
23 Tyler Turner.
23 Tyler Turner from Tumont Falls, Virginia.
Step up to bat.
Turner's hitting 150 on the season with 40 at bats.
Pretty well for himself.
Steps into the plate.
It delivers.
Goes for a punt, but it's a little fly.
Popped right down the third base side.
Now we can get a hold on that,
so it's going to be strike number one for Turner.
Bill Hill is hard to get those down directed in the right way.
Yeah, it is.
Never could get that down.
It's a really high one.
Yeah, especially when it's tossed in pretty fast.
I was doing those in maybe eighth grade and I couldn't even get them.
Delivery.
It's a check swing, a real low pitch.
It's going to be one and one for Turner.
It pealed to the first base, umpire.
He said no.
He's going to have one ball, one strike, no outs here.
Chargers on the bottom of the third.
trying to claw the way back.
Cooper delivers.
And a big high fly out to left field.
Does he see it?
Yep, he grabs it.
It looked like he might have lost it there for a second,
but he gets a hold on that.
So it's a flyout.
You've been quite a few flyouts for the charges here today.
I think he's two before that one to the left fielder.
So it'll be a first out.
Now we got Caden Nowick up, Grand Ledge, Michigan.
It's our third baseman.
Hubert, Glivers.
That's going to be a strike right down the center.
Noick's got 304 on the season.
He's got 23 plate appearances.
It's not a...
Not that many.
Yeah.
So swing in a tip.
So that's going to be strike number two for Nook.
He got hit.
Umpire.
Takes a second. Seems his fees might have caught that one somewhere, but he's all right.
Steps back into the box.
Got Noek stepping back into the bat.
Hubert sets, just his cap.
It's ready to deliver to Noak.
And the O2.
That's going to be high and up left for a ball one.
One out on the inning.
Chargers are down O3 here.
We're going to have to fight in this inning to bring themselves out of this hole.
It's low and inside for Noick, so that's going to be ball number two.
Really fighting in this count, doing a good job to be competitive and stay in it.
Preparters and delivery.
A little foul down the left sealed line.
That was a nice little tag there.
Put some power behind it.
Yeah, for sure.
It was beyond the bullpen even.
Yeah.
Just straighten that out.
We get a nice little tag for him.
Chargers need that right now?
Yeah, they definitely do.
It's 2-2 with one out.
Dragons beating the Chargers 3-0 in the bottom of the third.
And the delivery from Hubert.
That's going to be inside.
So we've got ball three for Noak.
He's done a good job to bring himself back into this thing.
Really fight back.
Now we've got a 3-2 count on Noak with just one out.
See what he can do with it.
Hubert for the payoff pitch.
Ooh, and it's a foul tip.
Just a little bit, barely even moved it.
Had to come off his ankle a little bit?
Might have, but kept him alive, whatever it was.
So really battling for the ball here.
Hubert sets up, and three, two, once again,
another foul tip.
Fighting for his life here.
Good job of protecting the plate
and keeping herself in it.
And charges need that right now.
They need to get some hits on the board
and start racking some runs up.
Hubert sets.
And big swing and a miss.
Kurt Bar really got him there.
Yeah, just really big swing,
but just couldn't make connection with it.
So we're going to move on to Aaron J.C.
Now batting from Kalamazoo, Michigan, number nine.
Aaron Jace.
Jason is from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Number nine.
He's going to set up and try to bring some life to the Chargers offense.
Hubert delivers.
A big line shot down the third base line, but just goes foul.
Just inches, foul.
That's tough.
Real rough.
Jasek sets back up into the box.
Pryors himself.
Hubert's got back up on the mound and
sets himself up and prepares and delivery that's going to be ball outside so one-one
dragons have three nothing over the chargers as they try to bring themselves out of this hole here
in the bottom of the third and the delivery a little ground ball oh throw to first but not there
and so he makes it just on time air on the first base we'll have a man on first
Danny Pasolk coming to the plate, driver city.
Get going here.
Personnel has the only other hit for the chargers today.
Let's see if he can make another one.
Runner goes to second and makes it.
Easily.
He's a stolen base.
He's in there by quite a bit, yeah.
Yeah.
Now we've got a man on second in scoring position.
And Pasoenolt, one strike and two outs.
See if the chargers can get something going here.
Low and inside.
Passing all.
So that's going to be one ball, one strike.
Just J-SIC up on second doing a little bit of a dance to try to confuse the pitcher.
And the delivery.
Oh, a big swing and a miss.
Passing all.
Just was not expecting that pitch.
So now we got one ball, two strikes, two outs.
Hubert's just looking to get out of this jam here.
Sets.
Delivers.
A little bit inside.
That's going to be two and two.
Wind's still blowing in.
Center field straight to the plate.
Kaston's going to have to hit something pretty hard here.
Put it right in a nice spot.
Hubert delivers the two-two.
Check swing.
Low.
That's going to be three-two.
We're going to see a
Full count here.
You got this.
You got this.
Come on.
Passing all sets himself up, and Hubert does as well.
And three, two, pitch.
Just a little tip fly ball down the left field line.
Oh, and a fantastic catch.
Lays out and grabs at the third baseman.
Right over his shoulder, too.
Wow, what a great catch.
I didn't think he was going to get that one.
No, I was not prepared for that call because that was just a fantastic laid-out catch.
Yeah.
Well, that's a momentum shift for the dragons.
Yeah, that was a great position for the Chargers, but a beautiful catch by the Third Baseman.
Sends him down here.
And we will see Chargers go down after one hit, no runs.
Try to defend the game from any higher scoring from the Dragons.
So this is 101.7 FM. He'll still Chargers Radio.
The old ball game where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime.
I'm T. Christensen.
Today we talk about the connection between baseball and Thanksgiving.
At one point, baseball, not football, was the American sport of Thanksgiving.
The games played on Thanksgiving Day were not entirely organized events,
but many clubs would come together to play to mark the end of the baseball season.
As the evening standard once wrote, quote,
In the afternoon, there were several scrub games, that is,
games which the various clubs unite and play together.
The regular ball season is considered to close with Thanksgiving,
though many games will doubtless be played throughout the winter when the weather will permit, end quote.
In 1887, a New York Times article advertised a Thanksgiving Day game to be played on the polo grounds.
Later, the Times cited 1887 as the origin of indoor baseball,
which eventually morphed into the game of softball.
Yale and Princeton began playing American football on Thanksgiving,
and that tradition stuck around.
As baseball became more organized, it arranged for its season to come to a
end in October. This has been the old ball game on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Back to charge baseball, a delivery from McLean. And it's going to be to Brasier,
Cal Brazier, takes a strike with no swing. And Clayne's gone fast here. Sends a ball on a strike,
one-one on Brazier, the top of the fourth year. Plain sets and delivers once again, sends just another
strike for two and one here and sets up takes a look and sends it it's going to be two and two
plane's moving real fast here stretches his leg a little bit and gives us a little bit more time
takes the mound and goes at it right once again big swing and a miss but it gets past the catcher
let's see can you get it to first jet sit on time drop third strike and that's little throw out from the
catcher so it's going to be first out of the inning now batting for 23 tie Hatfield
and we'll move on to tie Hatfield and see what McLean can do now
playing sets up and delivers big fly ball pop fly foul to the first base side
plane sets back up and the delivery a little bit high
there so we got one-on-one count with one out and the top of the fourth dragons have three
runs charges have none charges really have to buckle down here and make some defensive plays
plane sets up big hot shot down to the center shark grabs it throws it's first gets it right and
top good recovery by the short stuff there he bobbled it for a hot second dropped out of his
glove but he recovered and was able to make the play at first popped right back up to his hand
he got it right off real quick so snow-coned it almost
Nice second out.
And that will bring up Grabowski.
Spaski steps into the bat, steps into the box.
I apologize, and McLean signs one.
Grabowski shows a bunt sign, but pulls back in time.
That's going to show him a ball.
Clayton's moving fast here, trying to get back in the dugout.
Little ground balls of third base, a beautiful dive to grab it,
but throws it past the first.
baseman and it's going to get Krabowski on first but doesn't get him the second.
Kesar did a great job of backing up the first baseman there.
Yeah, and a great grab by Noah got third even though he couldn't quite execute that throw.
It was still a great stop.
Yeah, it was a wonderful diving stop.
Right by the foul line.
Katie comes back up to bat and sets and delivers a big high pop out to center.
he's going to grab it here and
Centerfield who grabs it and that's going to be the third out
so four up, three down.
No runs, one hit.
And we'll see what Hillsdale could do
to try to dig themselves out of this hole once again.
So after three, charges nothing,
after four, or three and a half, sorry,
charges nothing, dragons three.
You listen to 101.1.7 FM, Hillsdale Radio.
This is The Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group.
The year is 1842 and a patient is about to have a tumor surgically removed,
but for the first time in history, it will be done painlessly.
Born in Macon County, Georgia, Dr. Crawford-Long was a surgeon and a pharmacist
who had experienced the brutality of performing surgery without anesthesia.
But all that was about to change.
He administered sephoric ether on a towel and had his patient breathe through it.
And to the delight of everyone, especially his patient, the operation was painless.
Dr. Crawford Long had discovered anesthesia.
In 1845, he used that same method on his wife during childbirth.
And it must have worked because she bore him 12 children.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball.
We're in the bottom of the fourth here.
the charges have no runs and the dragons have three
so the charges really need to start getting some offensive noise going here
and see themselves out of this whole
see will Shannon come up to fat
against Hubert once again
momentum is what we need
Shannon might be the guy to do it he's leading the team with the 361 average
really just needs to get a nice swing on this ball and get himself on base
and set himself up
to the cleanup. Hebert takes a step off the mound, readjust his hat and steps back up. There's
to the pitch and the delivery here. A little bit outside. The last time up, Shannon hit one directly
off of the pitcher's leg. See if you can hit one. Delivery, one fall, one strike. Try to say,
see if you can hit one that doesn't hit the pitcher this time. Shannon prepares, gets ready.
Hubert delivers.
Shot down the third base line, but goes foul.
Hubert is ahead on Shannon, one ball, two strikes.
Shannon's got to dig himself out of this position here.
The delivery.
Big outside, so it's going to be two strikes, two balls, knots,
in the bottom of the fourth.
Roger Shannon is up facing the Dragon's Hubert.
Hebert delivers.
A little bit high and inside, so we're going to see a full count here.
Quite a few of those today.
Shannon prepares himself, just his helmet and Hubert adjust his cap, and they stare each
other down just a little bit and prepare.
Hebert delivers.
Nice fly ball out to the right side, and the right field that grabs it.
Makes the catch that's gonna be out number one for Shen for the dragons
Just popping it up quite a bit and it right to the dragons
Yeah, it seems like we're at the one that fell in right between the shortstop and the center fielder early on but just haven't been able to replicate that magic
For one stroke of luck today. Yeah, so Landis steps into the box
pairs against Hubert. Hubert delivers
and it's a foul ball towards the dugout
Tiff and dug out.
Right off the tip of his bat too.
Yeah, just got a contact with it,
but just couldn't really make anything off of it.
So it's going to be one strike, no balls,
and one out for the chargers.
Chargers only have two hits on the day.
At least we need to start, pump that number up.
Strike two on Landis, right down the middle.
So Landis has O.N. 2 and 1 out.
Hewry is doing a fantastic pitching job.
Here's the O2 pitch.
Nice foul ball straight back to the box.
Landis O and two with one out.
Steps back into the box, Hubert, pairs himself.
Sets up for the pitch.
Set and the delivery.
And that's going to be a little bit outside.
It's going to be ball one.
One and two for Landis, one out.
Go ahead.
Come on, my bed.
Bears.
And the pitch for Hubert,
little fly ball goes foul,
and the third baseman will grab it.
Second out.
Another pop-out.
Now batting number 22, Jacob Salee.
We're going to see Jacob Salee come up and try to
pull something together here for the chargers
and get us on the board.
Sally's going to have to get over this ball and drive it.
Try not to pop it up, the delivery.
That's going to be strike-borne for Sally.
Hubert's really got his control today.
He's really painting the corners for Hillsdale.
We're just not really taking advantage of anything.
The delivery.
It's going to be one-in-one, a low ball for Sal.
Yeah, Tiffin still has people out in the bullpen,
but honestly, I don't know if they'll be needing them anytime soon.
No, I don't think so.
He's really got good control today.
Yeah. Even when they have, you know, our boys have gotten contact with the ball.
It's just been pop-outs.
1-1. Fells it's straight back.
So it's going to be 1 and 2.
Sal. Sally.
Ebert takes his time, walks around the mound just to pinch.
And gets set.
Delle, you popped out in the second inning.
So he can pops another one straight up, right by that to play.
And hits the top of our broadcasting booth.
a little bit of a bang.
Salih just stuck his bat out there
and managed to get a piece of that one.
It seemed like he was just trying to protect the plate
on that one. For sure.
So Hubert gets set for the one, two, two outs.
Come on Ben, here go, kick.
Let's see. The delivery.
A little bit outside.
It's going to be two and two.
Nice layoff on Sally's part
because that was close. Could have gone either way.
It's going to be two balls,
two strikes, two out, in the bottom of the fourth.
Sally looking to get his,
first hit of the day
and the delivery
a little liner down the third
base line third baseman
fields it clean lead but does not make a clean
throw Sally rounds
from first and goes to second
and uh
rounds on third but
stays at second
so
so Lee makes a nice
little
heads up decision
to run to second
and we'll have
Zach Kent
come up try to bring in the man at second so we've seen a couple of those today just uh balls very well
fielded but then just thrown over the first and just on the ground for sure on both sides too
the chargers have done it at least once or twice so kent delivered kent sends a little
ground ball the third base once again throws across the dime this time makes the play
So that's going to be the third out.
It's not nearly as hard hit as Solis, but it will make the play.
Yep.
So Kent sends one to third who makes the third out for him,
and that's going to send the chargers back to the field.
Score is three for the Tiff and Dragons and Zero for the Hillsdale Chargers.
We'll be back after a short message.

Hello, welcome back to charge of baseball.
We're in the top of the fifth with the tiff and dragons coming up at the bat.
Dragons have three runs, the Chargers have been having a hard time getting anything going on the offense.
Just a lot of pop flies and much else.
A couple hits, but only two, whereas the dragons have six hits so far.
I've been really getting it going on offense.
We'll be seeing Ditchell come to the plate.
Up to bat, number nine, Adam Dichill.
It's a designated hitter.
No hits on the day.
Definitely be looking to get one.
A little strike.
A McLean, right down the center.
McLean going fast once again.
That's a ball, this time a little bit outside.
So you'll see one in one on the count at the top of the fifth.
Clean sends again.
This one's inside.
Dechel kind of contorting to get out of the way of it.
Clean sets up.
Takes a little bit longer than usual here,
and then delivers.
And that's going to be a third ball.
So it's going to be three and one on the count.
And the delivery.
And a nice high fly ball out to center field.
At the center field, we'll grab it and make an easy stand-up play.
And it's going to be out number one for the Chargers.
That wind really killed that ball, too.
Yeah, we've been seeing a lot of those little pop flies that could have gone somewhere,
but just in swamped in the wind.
It's coming straight towards the, those.
plate so it's really a pitcher's game today clean sets up and delivers it's going to be a little bit
outside so it's going to be a ball on swanger swanger last time scored so gone down on a strike here so
it's going to be one-on-one on the count with one out top of the fifth delivery from McLean it's
going to be another strike nice right down the center swanger now is going to have to be a little bit more
protective of the plate and grit down here and the delivery little ground ball the first
the first basement will make the play on assisted just carried over to the bag and that's going to be
two up two down for tiffin nice little play there now to bat number 19 Isaiah mirabell
so now we'll see mirabell come up to bat last time up he struck out swinging
See if he can make any noise this time around.
Clean delivers.
And it's going to be a strike.
Delivers once again.
And a big fly ball out to right field and easily caught by the right fielder.
And so that's going to be the third and final out for us.
So the dragons go down in order, top of the fifth.
No hits, no runs.
After four and a half of play, this score remains Dragons three, charges nothing.
A 101.7 FM radio freehills there.
Welcome to the old ball game, where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime.
I'm Tate Christensen.
Today we talk about the origin of the seventh inning stretch.
There are two commonly told origin stories.
The first has to do with President William Howard Taft.
When he was president in 1910, he threw the first pitch at an opening game in Washington, D.C.
Following the top half of the seventh inning, rumor has that the Taft stood up from his seat to stretch.
The crowd thought he was leaving and stood out of respect.
The second myth centers around a small school in New York,
whose coach and also the Catholic school's prefect of discipline,
saw that the crowd was going a bit stir-crazy.
So, in the middle of the seventh inning,
he called for a timeout so that spectators could stretch.
The game then carried on as normal.
No one knows for sure which, if either of these stories are true.
But regardless, the tradition has stuck around for many years.
This has been the old ballgame on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Chargers Baseball.
We have a pitching change for the Tiffin Dragons.
Looks like number 50 for the Dragons, which is going to be Mason.
Brunex, it looks like the Dragon.
Brunix came from St. Ignatius High School for Broadville Heights, Ohio.
Pretty good out there.
And we will see Ardenberg come up to plate, try and pull the chargers out of the hold.
They found themselves in here.
Only got two hits on the day and no runs so far.
So charges are looking to bring themselves up on the offensive and get something going this inning.
Bottom of the 50.
Up to bat, number 44, Joe Hardinberg.
Hartberg steps in the bat.
Big tall boy.
Hartberg is 6-1-21-15.
He's a senior from...
Northville, Michigan.
To Detroit Catholic Central.
Central receives the first pitch, and it's a little bit outside,
so he's going to take a ball there.
Takes from the left-hander.
Nice.
Sets, and gets a check swing, but that's going to be a strike.
Go ahead.
Come on, Mace.
Pitcher, Mason Brunex.
It's a left-handed pitcher.
That in the delivery.
That's going to be a little bit inside for Hardenberg.
It's going to be two balls, one strike.
Hardenberg kind of had to scoot away from that one.
coming in at the ankles.
Your next steals.
And a pop flies straight up.
Looks to be out to right field.
And the right field is directly underneath
and he grabs it for the first out.
Another pop fly for the chargers.
First out of the bottom of the end.
Tyler Turner.
See Tyler turner come up to back.
Turner had a fly out last time he was up.
left field.
Now he's going to try and did something going for Hillsdale.
A little bit outside from Brunix.
It's going to be ball one for Turner.
And the delivery.
A little fly ball.
Seems to be out to right field.
And right fielder, once again, grabs it.
Easy little pop fly.
And that's another pop fly for Turner and for the chargers.
A lot of pop flies today.
Second out.
We'll see NOAC.
From the bat, struck out last time, swinging.
Which will count, so let's see if you can get something going this time.
Chargers are still only at two hits.
We really need to start getting some action going on the offense.
The delivery, that's a strike.
It seemed to be a little bit inside.
It really came in there for a strike.
Yeah, that was right on an elbow, it seemed, but called strike.
So one strike, two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the delivery.
That's a ground ball the first.
The first baseman seems to pass it to the pitcher,
and that's going to be third out of the inning.
So chargers go three up, three down,
and the bottom of the fifth, no hits, no runs,
score remains.
Dragons three, charges nothing.

The Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group.
On August 6th, 1945, an atomic weapon was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, in hopes of ending World War II.
However, few are aware for days prior to the bombing, American pilots dropped leaflets over the city, warning the people to leave.
Read this carefully as it will save your life, it read,
We are in the possession of the most destructive explosive ever devised by man,
and then it urged them to evacuate their city.
Even though over 100,000 people lost their lives in Hiroshima, the Empire of Japan still refused to surrender.
It took a second bombing on Nagasaki before the emperor himself ordered the surrender over the objections of his military leaders.

Hello, and welcome back to Chargers baseball.
Chargers are in the top of the sit here.
Tom and Thaymond.
We have Thaman up to bat.
Gatsmo Claim.
We're clean, sorry.
The seconds have a 3-0 lead starting the top of the 6th.
I just really need to set down here and get defensive.
Plain sends a ball to Thaman and then sends another one right here a little bit low.
Two balls no strikes in the top of the 6th here.
Plain and a big swing in the miss on a low ball there for a very ball.
low ball there for payment so it's going to be strike two balls is a real big strong
cut but just couldn't get a hold of it and McLean goes fast here again a little bit
high there Damon is down 3-1 here in the count he's gonna have to buckle down
delivers once again and a line drive the first first baseman will field it
himself and we've got the first out of the inning for the chargers
So up next is gonna be Connor Hezica.
Up to bat, number 25.
Connor Huizka, made it all the way around the bases in the second inning,
but in the third just couldn't make it the first, so it's what we can do here in the top of the six.
Ooh, ground ball right to the pitcher off of McLean.
Shortstop fields it, throws it to first, and it's in time for the second out of the inning.
Quaint seems to have grabbed a piece of it with his bare hand and shaking his hand like he's in pain right now, but...
Ouch.
Yeah, it does not look fun.
Looks like the trainer's going to come out and take a peek at it,
make sure he's doing all right.
He's just right comebacker off the ground,
little dribbler on the ground and popped up off the mound.
Clay and tried to get a hand on it,
but it seems to just clit him and does not look comfortable.
caution from the trainer to come out and take a look at him.
Quick visit.
Now, Brazier.
He's Zika down.
We're going to see Brazier come up.
And McLean's going to get a couple practice pitches just to make sure his hand is ready.
Brazier is ready.
So Brazier steps into the plate.
Plains sets.
Top fly looks to be straight up, but catcher doesn't look like he's going to be able to grab it.
He's going to be strike one.
Two outs in the inning.
No hits.
Up two down.
Brazier's got 10 hits on the season, 43 plate appearances.
A line drive down to the left fielder.
It's going to be an easy single for Brazier.
Brazier's on first two outs.
Briggs up Ty Hatfield.
A couple innings who had a fantastic diving catch over the shoulder
and see if he can make some.
something happened on the offensive side.
He's delivered a ball from McLean.
Man on first to Brasier.
Hatfield is ready, and the delivery from McLean,
it's a big high pop fly.
First base looks to be running for it,
but it's out of play and once again hits the top of our
broadcasting studio.
So we'll have one ball, one strike, two outs in the top of the sixth.
Hatfield step back into the box
and see if he can try to bring in Brazier for Tiffin
or if McLean can lock this down?
Chargers.
1-1 pitch, and that's another high-fly pop ball.
Looks like it's going to be right into the Hillsdale bullpen.
So it's going to be one ball, two strikes here.
Still seems to be just struggling, just a pinch with control.
It is stepping back onto the mound,
See if you can hold it together here and bring the ending to a close.
The delivery.
A little tip foul right back at our window.
Three fouls in a row.
See if you can straighten it out or if McLean can sneak one past him here and get a nice little strikeout.
One, two on the count, two outs.
McLean delivers.
A big drive out to right field.
and a fantastic catch from the right fielder had to track back a little bit but makes it easily
and sends him home so that's going to be the third out of the inning and we'll finish the inning
with one hit no runs for tiffin and the score will remain three for the dragons and and for the chargers

in the bottom of the sixth year.
Tiffin's pitching has been fantastic this game,
the first two innings, the first six innings.
So we'll see if the chargers can get anything going here
in the bottom of the sixth.
Siak will be coming up to bat.
Eric, I apologize. He's from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The last time he got on,
an error in the first baseman.
There's a great catch by the third baseman
threw it to first and just couldn't get it to him.
So we'll see if Jason can grab something here.
He receives a ball, steps back into the plate.
And the pitch, it's a big swing and a miss from Jason.
Just a little bit lower than he was expecting there.
Jason's got nine hits on the season so far.
The 150 batting.
average. Brunitz sets a
deliverance and a nice pop fly to
center field but it's
held up by the right fielder
and gets the
first out of the end.
Made both the center fielder and the right fielder
chase after it but right fielder
ended up with it. Yeah, I called that one a pop fly
but it's more of like a
line number five.
It just had some art to it
and made both kind of pitch in
try and grab through it but it was
good hustle by the right fielder to get to it
so now we'll see top of the order
for the chargers pass it all back up and buntz it and the pitcher bobbles it so it'll make it to first
base on time caught the whole dragon team off guard seems like yeah caught me off guard as well yeah
he was going to go for that bump but he did and sets it down and the page you just couldn't clean it
fieldly field it cleanly boy so help to bat number 21st one will shannon
Shannon up to bat.
Shannon O for two takes a strike, watched it by.
Did not like that call.
Did not at all.
Shannon takes the next pitch.
And it's a ball, so it's going to be one and one.
It looked right on the edge there.
It's going to be one ball, one strike, no one out on the bottom of the sixth.
And a man on first.
Go ahead.
It's eyes down.
man on first and delivers nice little ground ball the short looks to second and then first
it's going to be a double play says the chargers down it's going to be six four three double play
and so hill'sdale will go down with one hit no runs and he's score once again is three for the
dragons and none for the chargers and um look to looking for some charger i'm looking for some charger
on defense to try to hold it down once again and move into the next inning.

Welcome back to Chargers baseball.
We're in the top of the seventh here.
Same pitcher.
Maclean will be up on the mound, and we'll see Grabowski come back out.
Last time up, he had made it to first on an error, but couldn't turn it into anything.
Let's see if he can get anything going or if McLean can shut him down.
delivery in the pitch it's a little bit outside so it's going to be ball one on grabowski and the delivery once again
that's another one outside gabowski has reached based twice first on that error that we talk or um
first of about based on balls and then the second time was that error we just spoke about so no hits but
has been on base twice mclean sends another one to him and that one's a strike two balls one strike
Top of the seventh here.
No outs.
And the delivery.
Nice little tap fall towards the Tiff and Dugout, the third baseline.
Bounce right off home plate there.
It's going to be two balls and two strikes there.
The delivery.
Nice little drive to shortstop.
Makes it the first on time.
It's going to be first out of the inning.
6-3 and we'll move on to the top of the order with Katie Katie is 0 for 3 in the game
up to the back on 33 Griff Katie yet if the clean can keep it going the delivery
a little bit low ball one Clint has been working pretty hard through this but just
struggling a little bit with control throws again and we get a little bit of a
strike. He seemed to warm up, but we're having some action in the charger bullpen over to the right
side. So we'll see if McLean stays in the game. Next pitch. A big swing to miss. It's going to be
one ball, two strikes here. Clayton set once again. And the swing. Big high fly ball,
gone foul. And towards the bullpen, but out of play. So no play. No play.
play on it for the first baseman had three charges running after that ball second baseman lost his hat
in the process yeah yeah they were all kind of running for it pretty hard just couldn't uh can to get a hand
on it was out of play a little bit too far hat count one ball two strikes in the delivery a little chipper
right behind the plate and it's going to be another foul ball ooh katie lunch for that ball
yeah he's working real hard to stay alive and miss that bat
little ground ball to left side shortstop fields it and a nice play the first base that's going to be
two outs the ball almost died on him right there at shortstop he had to charge it a little bit harder than usual maybe
yeah he came up right on it and bounced right up his blood of a nice really really nice fielding on
just grabbing and tosses in the first base with good accuracy now we'll see uh Ditchell come up once again
0 for 2 officially.
And the delivery for McLean.
That's going to be
ball one for eachel.
Plain delivers once again.
It's a little bit high for a ball.
Two balls, no strikes,
and two outs.
In the top of the seven.
A little foul ball
follows it off himself and
does not look happy with that.
Can't be comfortable.
Looks like that one was off the hip almost.
Yeah. Ouch.
Yeah.
A couple guys following them.
We had umpire get hit as well.
So whoever said baseball was in a contact sport, eat your words.
The 2-1 delivery, a little dribbler to first base.
First baseman will toss to the pitcher and get there in time.
So, tear it out.
So Tiffin goes down 1, 2, 3, no hits.
The score remains three runs for Tiffin, 04.
Chargers.
and we move into the bottom of the seventh with the charges needing some offensive magic here.

On the night of October 2nd, 1952 in Korea,
private first class Jack Kelso was defending a vital outpost
against a vastly superior enemy force when the commanding officers became casualty.
When an enemy grenade landed in a bunker holding four Marines besides himself, he unhesitatingly picked it up, rushed out into the open, and hurled it back at the enemy.
The grenade exploded as it left his hand, but Private Kelso refused to move to safety and instead returned enemy fire, allowing other Marines pinned down in a nearby bunker to escape.
Kelso was mortally wounded while providing cover for his comrades.
He gallantly gave his life for his country and for his valiant fighting spirit, aggressive determination, and self-suffer,
sacrificing efforts for the sake of others.
Private First Class Jack Kelso was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

Welcome back to Chargers baseball.
In the bottom of the seventh here,
Chargers need some offensive noise.
Only got three hits so far in the game, no runs.
We dragged three runs the game, two in the second and one of the third,
so Chargers need to get back up into this game.
First pitch from Brunits, it's a strike to Landis.
Landis is their designated hitter, and he popped out today.
He's 0 for 1.
Linus really needs to get the bat on the ball and make some noise for Hillsdale.
0-1, and it's a ball in the dirt, so it's going to be 1-1 for the Chargers, or for Landis.
No outs in the bottom of the 7th here.
Landis gets ready, and Brunits deliver.
and Landis takes a swing in the chop at one but follows it off towards the Dragon's dugout.
It's a nice off-speed pitch from Brunas.
It really tricked them up there and all you can do is get a piece of it.
Just try to stay alive.
So it's one ball, two strikes in Landis.
Brin sets and delivers and check swing.
And that's going to be a pitch outside.
So two balls, two strikes and no outs on Landis.
another off-speed pitch just in the wrong batters box right let's see where landis uh
thinks he's going next time and the pitch it's inside and high but oh rough call
landis is not at all happy with that call it's going to be strikeout looking the first out of
the end of the bat number 22 land just had a couple words to the empire after that one did not seem
happy with that call I don't know if I was either yeah well high for my taste
Yeah, but Lannis is a big boy, so never know.
Pitch on Sally.
Sallie, that's gonna be straight number one.
Sally reached last time to first on an error.
It's O for two on the day, or two for two.
Sally receives one, and it's gonna be a ball
and a little bit inside for him, so.
It's one-on-one with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
Sally prepares for the pitch and the delivery,
Nice little pop fly up to in between the center fielder, second man, and the shortstop.
And second base, go ahead.
grabs that one.
Give me our second out.
A lot of pop flies.
Yeah, really getting under it.
Not driving anything too much.
The wind is no longer driving as much as it was.
Flag is just kind of hanging out in center field.
No real strong winds, but just still having a problem with getting any sort of distance on
anything. Kent receives a strike here to start off his at bat. Oh and one for him. Two outs in the
inning. And the delivery from Buditz. A little ground ball followed down the first base line.
It's a pretty chilly out there. Has it warmed up too much. We have our window here in the box.
Just cracked a pinch and hands are even a little chilly.
It's a little chill in here.
It delivers.
There's a deer on the road on the stadium.
Almost got hit by a truck out there.
A little bit distracting from the game.
Brunitz delivers, and Kent hits a high fly ball straight up to the centerfielder.
And a nice little can of corn for the centerfielder to field.
So it's going to be the third out of the inning.
Chargers go down with no hits.
It's going to be three up, three down.
So we keep the score at three runs for the dragons,
no runs for the Chargers going into the top of the A.
We'll see what we can get going next thing for the Chargers.

On September 17th, 1944, First Lieutenant Donald K. Schwab was leaving his company across exposed ground in France when intense enemy fire came without warning from the woods directly in front of them.
Schwab protected his men and led them forward into the enemy fire.
He rallied his force and struggled to within 50 yards of the Germans before ordering his men to hit the dirt.
He rushed forward alone, firing his carbine at the German foxels, aiming for the vital enemy machine pistol nest.
He charged the German emplacement, ripped off the half cover, struck the German gunner in the head, and dragged.
him back through a hail of fire to friendly lines. First Lieutenant Schwab's action so disorganized
hostile infantry resistance that the enemy forces withdrew, abandoning their formidable defensive
line. For his extraordinary heroism and selflessness, above and beyond the call of duty,
First Lieutenant Donald Schwab was awarded the Medal of Honor. This is Minute of Honor on Radio Free Hillsdale
101.7 FM. Welcome back to Charger Baseball. We've had a pitching change for the Chargers. Daily
Skies is in. He's a right-handed pitcher from Georgetown, Indiana.
skis is going to deal with a little bit more wind here the wind is picked up once again it is
sending in straight towards home plate so the dragons are going to have to contend with that trying to
get some hits out here dragons have been doing so pretty well hitting so far they've got seven hits out of seven innings
and have three runs on the day chargers are a little bit behind only three three
hit so far, no runs, so they're going to have to try to hold up here and make a defensive
stand so that the next happening they can try to get some offensive movement going and even
the score up. Maybe take the league.
Logan Swanger is back up to bat for the Dragons.
Swonger got a line drive out last time around.
See if you can get anything going.
It's two for three.
Throws down a bunt on the first pitch, but it's a little bit outside and checks it.
So it's going to be ball one for Swanger.
Swanger got a single in the first inning, or third inning, and scored.
Pitch of delivery, a nice line drive right past the short stop.
What a dive by the shortstop.
It was a good attempt to field it, but just couldn't get a hold of it.
So Swanger has a one base hit on the day.
Add it to his tally.
Up to bat, number 19.
Swanger seems like one of the few who can hit a line drive this game.
He's been one of the guys to really get his bat on the ball and drive it.
Everyone else has been pretty, having a hard time getting any sort of oof behind the ball.
We have a man, a foul ball from Mirabell.
The foul ball, big strike warfow ball for the down first base line.
Down the first base line, no one can get a hold of it, so it's going to be just a strike.
Man on first, no out in the top of the eighth.
We've got eight hits for the dragons now.
Only three for the charges.
If the charges are going to want to catch up, they're going to have to really start getting the baton of the ball and making some noise.
Skis in for relief.
It takes a throw to first, trying to scare the guy back on base.
Yeah, longer goes standing up.
Skies checks first once again, sets, and the delivery, the O-1.
Raybell shows a bunt but pulls back at the last second.
It's going to take a ball low, so it's one-in-one.
They're definitely keeping an eye on that guy at first there.
The charges have all day been really focusing on the guy at first
and making sure he doesn't make any runs.
The one-one pitch. It's a little bit outside, and they almost catch him on a throw to first from the catcher.
But it's just a little bit bobbled.
First baseman can't get the tag around, so it's going to be two balls, one strike on Mirabell.
This one, we're still on first.
No, that's in the inning.
Skies checks again, sets himself up.
And then the pitch, a little bunt, sack bunt.
He's going to throw it to first.
Skies gets him at first, but moves swunger to second.
So now with a man in scoring position and one out, we'll have Thaman coming to plate.
Thamon's got 333 on the season, and 42 at bats.
He's one for three today, a little RBI single earlier on in the game.
A man on second.
Skies delivers.
That's going to be outside for a ball.
So one ball, no strikes in and out, top of the eighth.
Man on second.
Skis really needs to buckle down here
and try to prevent any more runs from coming in.
Dry day, but a little bit cold.
Delivery, a little bunt down third base line.
Oh, and the third base,
let's it dribble past him thought it was going to go foul but it stayed fair and just a
just a rough play perfectly placed but faman just goes right down the third base line and uh
third baseman figured it might have been going foul but let it roll and didn't so now we've got
a man on third man out first sally a little frustrated with the third baseman over there but
what can you do sometimes when it's uh just one of those 50 50-50 balls he got him
make a choice and he made the choice and unfortunately it was the wrong one this time so skis delivers
it's inside and the catcher can't get a good hold on it but stops in the front so man on third can't make a
run for it and they're going to have a quick mound visit between the catcher and the pitcher
is like is up to bat and a quick conversation this matchup here between the chargers and the
Dragons is one of three this weekend. It's a nice game and then two more tomorrow.
Be excited to see what's going to happen tomorrow.
See if the Chargers can try to grab this one from them today and maybe put up another
fight tomorrow. Either way, it'll be an interesting game.
So one ball on those strikes, one out, top of the eighth. Ski's sets and delivers.
That's a little bit high, ball two.
Two and O, one out, man on second and third.
Ski's in a high pressure situation here.
He really needs to not let any runs in,
just to keep the chargers in a competitive position.
Ski sets and delivers.
And a big swing in the miss.
That's a nice strike on Huseca.
Skis could definitely use a strike out here.
Two balls, one strike, one out.
needs to sit some boys down and get the chargers back in the dug out and on the field batting.
Set and deliver.
And that's a little bit low in the dirt, so it's going to be ball three for skis.
It's three one and one.
Three balls, one strike, one out, top of the eighth.
Man on second and third, skis is in a real high pressure situation here.
It needs to throw some strikes and buckle down.
And the delivery.
Big drive down there.
Short stop, gap, shortstop, gets a tip of his glove on it, but just can't field it cleanly.
It's a hold on it, but stops the man from second from scoring, but man on third gets a run,
so it's man on first and third with a run scored.
Scores now four to nothing for the dragons.
Brazier at the bat. First pitch is a ball, and Skies really needs to get control of this situation.
Got a couple outs here.
Brazier's two for three on the day, with a double.
This is a dangerous spot for the Chargers.
Ooh, and a big drive in the left field for Brazier.
That's going to be over his head.
He's going to try to throw in.
Thaymond scores.
So now we have a man at third and second, another double.
It's a fantastic outing for him.
Big day for Brazier.
Big ribby for him.
That ball was way out there in left field.
It hit the, it bounced on the field,
hit the top of the fence.
I thought it was going to go over and be a double.
It looked like a ground rule double.
Ground rule double, yeah.
It ended up just being a normal double for me.
He tagged it real well and right over left-fielder's head.
The top of the eighth, two runs scored for the dragon.
and Skies really needs to hold on here and dig in.
Man on third and second for him.
Up the bat is Hatfield.
The pitch.
That's a little bit outside.
So we're going to one ball, no strikes and one out in the top of the eighth here.
Hatfield's one for three on the day with a single and a second.
Ski's sets and delivers.
And a foul ball straight back into the net.
So one ball, one strike.
He's working hard out here, but we've got some action in the Hillsdale bullpen warming up.
He sets.
Man on third.
And the deal.
That's another strike.
So one ball, two strikes, just right down the center for him.
Man on third is dancing around a little bit, talking up his boy at home plate and trying to distract the pitcher as much as possible.
We've got the second baseman taking a short infield stance.
looking for the sack bun.
And the pitch shows a nice line drive down the center field.
And two runs scored, three runs scored.
Oh, two runs scored, I apologize.
And that's going to pull in the man from second and third.
Both Brazier and Huzeka score on a single for Hatfield.
Nice single for Hatfield, just a real nice tag down the center field.
or yeah down center field and uh just hit the gap perfectly now we're going to have a quick meeting
with the pitcher coach coming out to give him some words of encouragement or maybe uh give him a
a break here let's see four runs ascending for the dragons makes seven zero right they've
really run up the score here hillsdale have uh fallen into a
even deeper hole.
You're going to have to work real hard on the offense
and the couple of innings we have left here to
try to bring things back up.
So skis will remain on the mound.
Just a quick pep talk.
Man on first and
only one out in the top of the
eight here. Four months morning.
So now we have Grabowski at the plate.
Two for three on the day.
Reached on an error in the fourth inning.
The skis.
I've been a rough day out. Let's see if he can bring something together here.
A big hit from Grabowski out to left field once again and a beautiful catch on the run for the left fielder
to keep the man at first from advancing the second.
We've got two outs here.
Grabowski really got a hold with that one.
Knocked it pretty hard, but left fielder got to it just in time.
And now batting number 33.
Griffith row back in to keep the man at first on first.
He's checks man on first and delivers it's a little low.
Katie's one for three on the day, the single and the first.
He sets, checks them up and down and delivers.
A big high and right up on the letters.
I had to step out of the box a little bit for that.
So two balls, no strikes, two outs in the top of the eighth.
And the dragons now have 12.
12 hits to the Chargers 3.
The delivery.
Big pop fly.
It used to be behind the broadcasting studio,
so no chance for anyone to get a hold on that one.
Yeah, the dragons are not afraid to swing the bat, that's for sure.
They're really getting a hold of it.
Some of them they're sending high, but recently, more than not,
they've been sending them out into the field
and right away from where the fielders are.
It's paying off for them.
Delivery, a little chip to the shortstop and a long throw.
Buddy gets him out first.
A nice throw.
Beautiful out.
It was a little chipper off.
It looked like the knuckles of the bat and just had to make a weird play on it,
but got a hold of it and threw it.
So on the top of the eighth, four runs on five hits,
leaving one man on.
The score is now seven for Tiffin, zero,
for nothing for Hillsdale

this is minute of honor on radio free hillsdale 101.7 fm back to charger baseball we are back in the
bottom of the eighth inning here uh the dragons are up seven nothing over hillsdale so hillsdale really needs to
start getting something going on offense here getting pretty low on innings left so if we're going to get any sort of
comeback it really needs to start now we've got hardenberg coming up to bat for hillsdale hardenberg's one
and two on the day my bad o for two you got a pop out in the fifth inning to right field see if he can
get past the popouts and drive one here to start off the inning hard bird from northville
Michigan, steps into the plate. Brunitz delivers, and that's going to be a low ball. So
Ardenberg steps back into the plate, sets up for the next pitch and the 1-0 pitch. That's going to be
one-on-one now. Strike seemed a little high, but still counts. So 1-1 on Hardenberg on the bottom
of the 8th. First man up, delivery, and that's a little bit outside. So it's a little bit outside, so
it's going to be two and one on Hardingberg.
Great pitch.
Hardenberg is a senior for Hills.
And the pitch in the delivery,
he fouls it off behind the first base side.
It's going to be two and two for Hardingbird.
No outs in the bottom of the eight.
Hardberg sets up,
delivery from Burnets.
And that's going to be a,
ball three so we have a full count here and we'll see where Hardenberg thinks he's going to go
and it sets and the livers it's a nice nice ground ball to the left side goes through both the third
and the shortstop so Hardenberg gets a nice lead-off single to set up the chargers for
the innings really need this momentum swing hopefully keep this going
the plate. I apologize to be a pitcher, but I didn't realize.
The last picture looks significantly like the first pitcher down to the same haircut and everything.
But we have Francisco Alvarez up for Mason Brunex.
Alvarez is from Ashtabula, Ohio.
Edgewood High School, he's a senior.
Come on, but.
The livers.
We've got Olegora out for no back pinch inning.
Alvarez has a 0.68 ERA on the season and five appearances.
Olligora out, and I apologize, he's up for Turner.
There's going to be a quick meeting at the mound between the catcher and the pitcher.
So Walgora out for Turner here today.
This at bat.
And we've got Oliverers out on the mound with a man at first, no outs, and a ball on the at bat in the bottom of the eight.
Oliveras sitting on a 7-0 lead here.
The comfortable position should be throwing pretty aggressively.
and throws a strike in.
We got a ball and a strike on the up back.
Both pens both quiet.
Seems like both men are who they're hoping to stay with for a little bit.
Alvarez delivers and adds another strike, so it's going to be one ball, two strikes here.
Alarids on the off, the on-deck circle.
Oliveras delivers.
Check swing, but he still gets in here.
That's going to be strike.
Take three in the check swing.
It seems to be a little bit outside here, but it sounds down.
Pitch now.
Will Miller.
Number three.
Will Mollard is taking the place of Novak.
Ballard hails from Ophalan, Illinois.
Never been there myself, but sounds fantastic.
Millard steps into the box and receives the first pitch.
It's going to be a strike for him.
Oliver's is thrown pretty well here.
No balls one strike and one out in the bottom of the eighth.
Big writ to the left side.
Gets down to the left field and gets down for a base hit for Millard.
That's going to bring up G. Syak with a man on first and second.
It's the first time today.
We've had two base runners and one inning.
Wow.
Up to bat number nine, Aaron Jason.
Take advantage of this, Jay Syak.
He's going to need to get a hold of one here.
and get some boys in. I apologize it's J-Sig, not J-Syke.
That's going to be a low ball one on the first pitch for J-Sig.
So we've got one ball on those strikes, one out in the bottom of the eighth with a man on first and second.
At the top of the order waiting on the deck.
One-O delivery.
Olivera gets him on a little cutter.
And it's gonna be one ball, one strike on Jasek.
Jason took a healthy cut there, just couldn't get a hold of it.
Delivery.
Jasek shows a bun, but checks it at the last second.
It's gonna go in for a ball two, so two balls, one strike.
Jasek has 51 played appearances this season and is batting 157.
Basic pairs for the pitch.
the pitch oliveres no break check second base then delivers oh it's a big swing in the miss from
jacic once again jacic saw the ball coming in just uh cut out at the last second he just couldn't get
his bat in the right spot it's going to be two balls two strikes and one out the man on first
and second see if jacic can pull one here and cannot it's a strike three big swing and miss
So we'll come back up to that.
Top of the order here.
Two outs, the bottom of the eighth.
First and second, we really need to take advantage of this goal for opportunity here,
especially with limited innings left here.
Get rid of that goose egg on the board out there.
Yeah, yeah, it's looking pretty ugly.
Oliveras takes a step off the mound and pulls a man on second back to the base.
He takes the mound and takes a look.
Arsenal
Big pop fly
Down the line
Left side
Fly out
So that's going to be
A third out of the inning
Fly out
Foul ball
So we're going to leave two men on
Three hit
Two hits
No runs in the inning
And two men left on
So that's
Seven runs for
Dragons and no runs for the Chargers
Going into the top of the ninth

Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and I run the Grammar Minute Instagram account.
If you haven't seen it, you should because there are pictures of llamas there.
I was on Instagram this afternoon, partly because very few people on that app are formal enough to use semicolens.
There's one particularly wrong way to use semicolons, and that is using them to separate items.
in a list. I like chocolate milk, comma, hot chocolate, comma, and cocoa. These items should be
separated with commas, not semicolons. The only time it's acceptable to separate list items with a
semicolon is if the clauses themselves have commas in them. So, for example, I might say,
I like sweet things like chocolate and hot cocoa, semicolon, salty things like chips and guacambole,
semicolon, and hot things like tacos. Because each item in the list includes a comma, it's okay to
separate these with semicolums.
That's your Grammar Minute.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball.
We've had a change of pitching up.
We've got Brandon Scott
and is a left-handed pitcher
from Adrian, Michigan.
Scott's got a 10.57 ERA on the season.
One win, one loss.
This will be a six appearance of the season.
Pretty big.
Six feet tall and 185 pounds as a junior went to Maui Christian for high school.
I believe I had a class with him in my sophomore year.
I think we were in, God, what was it?
Constitution together.
So let's go Brandon.
Brandon delivers.
And that's going to be strike one.
Brandon pretty tall and delivers.
That's going to be strike two.
He's delivering pretty quickly as well, just like McLean,
not taking any fun time in between,
just going right to it.
It was right for the third pitch.
Oof, rough call.
I thought it was going to be a strike, but ball low,
so it's two strikes, one ball.
the top of the ninth.
He's Dylan Dechle, who is over three on the day.
The set, and the delivery.
Big high fly foul ball down the third baseline.
Come on Adam, here you go, Kit.
Keep himself alive there, Dechel.
Scott sets up and delivers.
And that's a little bit outside, so it's going to be two balls and two strikes.
Dragons have two in the second, one in the third, and four in the eighth.
for a total of seven runs to Chargers, no runs.
Dechle files the ball off himself.
And so we'll stick at two balls, two strikes, and no outs.
Dechle leading us off here.
Tiffin at 12 hits.
That's a nice strike three on the inside corner.
And really disappoints Deichel.
So nice backwards K for Brandon.
Brandon Scott.
Yeah, Ditchell really not happy with that call, but brings up Swanger.
Two for three on the day.
He scored twice.
Swonger has been very effective at bat today.
Let's see how Scott tries to handle him here.
He's got a pitch around him or what will happen?
First pitch and felled off right at the third base dug up,
but goes straight over it and hits a light pole.
Swanger, big swing on that one.
It's going to be no balls, one strike and one out on them.
That's a little bit high that pitch there, so it's going to be one ball, one strike.
Steps on the mound and checks the catcher.
Sets and delivers.
That's a little bit on the inside.
We didn't seem happy with that one.
So two balls, one strike, one out.
On top of the ninth,
Chargers really need to sit side down and move on.
It's a big hit from Swanger all the way out into center field,
but the center field that makes a beautiful catch over his head,
pulls it in for out number two.
I really got some power on that one.
Swangler did.
Yeah, that was a great catch by the centerfielder too.
Yeah, he was on the run and made a nice little...
To bat, number 19.
I'm cutting it over his head.
Casually threw it in, like nothing ever happened.
Routine, every day.
Yep.
I always like when they do that, instead of making it look all cool and everything,
they're just like, ah, that was nothing.
Delivery from Scott to Mirabell.
Rebel takes the pitch for a strike, and it's going to be one strike,
no balls and two outs for them at the top of the ninth.
Scott delivers outside for ball one.
So one-on-one, two-outs.
out. Mirrorball's 0 for 3 on the day with a strikeout in the third inning and a sack
button the 8th. Marbella. Big guy receives the pitch and it's a little bit inside, has to
scoot off the plate just a pinch. That's going to be two balls in one strike. Bearbell
bouncing in the box waiting for pitch from Scott. Scott sets and delivers. That's going to be
way outside. That's going to be three and one on the count with two outs. Scott left-hander
facing Mirabelle the right-hander.
And the delivery.
And that's a strike two down the center.
So full count here with two outs.
See if Scott can wrap this up with a nice little bow
and throw a nice strike out here.
Pitch, just a little low and he walked them.
Sends him to first.
First man on base here.
It's sitting.
And we'll have Tommy Thaman come out to bat here.
Up to bat, number 10, Tommy Thayman.
Hamon steps in the box of Mirabell on first.
Two outs on the inning in the top of the ninth with Dragon's seven runs to the Chargers, no runs.
Pitch, it's going to be a little bit outside, the ball one.
Hillsdale has one more half inning to try to turn things around here.
I'll have to keep control of this inning.
Nice drive down the center field.
The center field that grabs it and tries to get it back in, but just can't again.
get it into second base on time.
There's gonna be a man on first and second
off of that single from Thaman.
That was Thaman's third hit.
Nice little line drive single.
So we'll have.
Hizica up to bat with two outs and the top of the ninth.
Was it like a walked in the second and scored
and scored in the eighth as well.
Pitch to Hezica, this strike.
Cots, sets, and delivers.
That's a little tip foul.
It's going to be two strikes.
No ball, two strikes, two outs in the top of the ninth.
The man on first and second,
and Scott really needs to clamp down here and get this out.
That's, delivers.
And a big swing in a Mitch, miss.
Perfect strike for Scott.
Tires the side. That brings us to the bottom of the ninth here with seven runs for the dragons and no runs for the chargers.
Hillsdale really needs to get some offensive noise coming up here.
So we'll come back to you in just a quick moment.
This is Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM.
Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of the Medal of
honor. This is Minute of Honor. Here's Jinnah Suhita. On September 17th, 1944, First Lieutenant Donald K. Schwab
was leaving his company across exposed ground in France when intense enemy fire came without warning
from the woods directly in front of them. Schwab protected his men and led them forward into the
enemy fire. He rallied his force and struggled to within 50 yards of the Germans before ordering
his men to hit the dirt. He rushed forward alone, firing his carbine at the German foxels,
aiming for the vital enemy machine pistol mess.
He charged the German emplacement, ripped off the half cover,
struck the German gunner in the head,
and dragged him back through a hail of fire to friendly lines.
First Lieutenant Schwab's action so disorganized hostile infantry resistance
that the enemy forces withdrew,
abandoning their formidable defensive line.
For his extraordinary heroism and selflessness,
above and beyond the call of duty,
First Lieutenant Donald Schwab was awarded the Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Charger Pates.
We're here in the brand new stadium at Hillsdale.
And it's a gorgeous stadium, don't you think?
Yeah, it really is.
Lenda and Glenda Hill Stadium.
Started construction last spring, I believe.
They completed it earlier this winter, really.
It's a beautiful all-turf field and amazing bleachers and a great new press box, too.
Press box is very nice.
I know the bleachers are about half full today.
It's a little bit cold for a baseball game, so everyone who is here is pretty bundled up, but we're going into the bottom of the night now for Hillsdale.
Hillsdale's got to really start making some noise offensively.
We got Shannon up here and still facing Oliveira.
Shannon's out for three today.
Oliveira delivers and it's a watch strike.
Shannon just lets it pass, so we'll own one on the count.
Shannon sets and delivers, or Olivera.
sets and delivers.
Sends one a little bit on the inside of Shannon.
So that's going to be one in one.
I believe I've also had a class with Will Shannon.
And I think it was Constitution as well.
Wow, just a class full of baseball guys.
Yeah, yeah.
A real nice guys, too.
That's going to be another ball for Olivera.
So it's going to be two balls, one strike.
Shannon calls time real quick.
Steps out of the box and readjusts.
Steps back in.
All bear on the mound.
It's one ball, two strikes.
I apologize, I got that wrong.
And the pitch.
Oh, it's going to be cold strike three.
A little bit low, but Shannon walks off.
See him pretty disappointed.
The crowd didn't like that one either.
Yeah, that was low.
It was a little bit low.
Shannon's a big boy, so his strike box is going to be a little bit bigger.
It brings up Jeff Landis, first base.
LANDIS is 0 for 2 on the day with a strikeout in the seventh inning.
The bottom of the ninth with the one out.
Landis used to get a tag on here.
It'll make some noise.
Get Hillsdale's momentum moving.
Oliveira delivers.
It's going to be a little bit low for him.
Tiffin is looking here to continue their winning streak and extend it to four.
Hillsdale is looking to grab a win here and
grab a win here and set off the weekend with a good note.
Oliver throws an outside and low ball to Landis,
so it's going to be two balls and no strikes and one out here in the bottom of the ninth.
Yeah, Hillsdale had a rough spring break with four losses and only two wins.
All those four losses were all in a row.
2-0 pitch is a strike in the inside.
Landis was a little bit disappointed on that one.
Olivera sets and delivers in the 2-1.
swings on that one it follows it off just a little bit behind it was a sort of a check swing but
less of a check and more just he stopped in the middle and bounced the ball off of it so
got two balls two strikes and one out on landis here all the bear sets and delivers here two
two pitch landis makes a nice little hit out into right field a little blooper right in front
of the right fielder so get a nice little single on that one
one. Salé back up. Our catcher. Come to bat. Number twenty, Jacob Selene. I have not had a class.
Jacob Salier. I don't know that I have it either, so. But I'd love to at some point during my career
here in Hillsdale. Come on, Frank. It's going to be a little bit low and outside. It's going to be
ball one for Saleh. So one ball, no strikes, and one out. Hillsdale. Hillsdale. It's going to be a little bit low. It's going to be ball. It's going to be ball.
So one ball, no strikes and one out.
Hillsdale Man on First, Plandis.
And the pitch, that's going to be another ball, a little bit outside.
So he's really got himself into a nice position here.
Can afford to take a couple pitches.
Come on, Frankie.
Two balls, no strikes, one out.
Alibera delivers the 2-0.
It's going to be another ball.
A little bit low there.
It's going to be 3-0 with one out, a man on first, Landis.
Landis taking a conservative lead.
Delivery, that's going to be ball four.
That's going to be four straight balls there.
Mount break with the catcher.
Now it's going to be a full-on mountain visit.
So we'll see Zach Kent come up in.
Centerello, Ohio.
Zach is going to come out and try to drive in the
man at second.
Yeah, and Kent's over three on the day with two popouts, one in the second and one in the seventh.
So we'll see if he can make contact, but maybe some better contact and get somewhere and maybe driving some runs.
That would be nice.
Perfect time to redeem himself here.
He's in a perfect position to drive one here and bring in some runs and get that QSAG off the right field.
Tiffin still 7-0 here.
With Hillsdale, I'm only six hits to Tiffins, 13.
The Humphire goes out to break up the mound visit.
She's going a little bit too long.
It looks like Oliveris is going to stick out there and stick it through.
So we'll see if Zach can't take advantage of Oliveras.
It's a little moment of lost focus.
There's a brown ball here.
Oliveira's working on a 7-0 lead.
little bit of wiggle room but doesn't want to give up anything here. Kent steps in. It's the first
pitch strike. Can't watch that one go by. O and one, one out. The bottom of the ninth. Allvera
sits, pitches. A big pop fly. Looks like an infield fly. The second baseman's going to take care of
that one. Kent gets set down. We'll see two outs.
Hardingham coming up to bat.
We've got one last down here for the charges to make some noise,
man on first and second.
See if you can get that goose egg off the board.
Hardberg steps up.
Alvarez delivers.
That's going to be a first pitch strike.
Hardenberg is one for three on the day with a single back in the eighth.
Ardenberg sets in.
A little five.
ball just like a tip doesn't even make it past the infield circle so count is
0 and 2 on Hardenberg with two outs it's last strike and last out here see
Hardenberg can take a cut and tag one here and on first and second keep keeping
pretty conservative steps off of the pitch it's gonna be missed outside quite a bit
So one ball, two strikes here.
Ardenberg, alive, needs to really buckle down here and turn on one.
Alvarez, the pitch, a little foul tip straight back towards us in the box.
Evan Farquhar in the box, or in the on deck.
It's a little bad if we can get on the base here.
One two pitch, way outside.
The batters will advance here easily, standing up for the,
basement, the man on second and third, I apologize. So the man on third and a man on second.
So now a little bit of pressure here on Oliverus, who's been struggling so far. He's got two balls,
two strikes, two outs. Hardenberg can really make a difference here in tag one or even
pull something. Swing and a miss, strike three. That's going to be the game for you, folks.
So Hillsdale leaves two men on.
And the opening game of the series, the Chargers go down 7 and nothing with 13 hits to 6 for Halesdale.
Chargers step off the deal.
That's going to be the game for you, folks.
Once again, Tiffin Dragons 7, the Hillstall Chargers, Zero.
Back tomorrow at 1 and at 4 for a double header against the Tiffin'Rewan.
Dragons. There's going to be seven innings each, so it'll be a little bit reduced to single-gate time, but
double the baseball, so we'll be in time tomorrow. Hopefully the Chargers can come back and
rally here and win both of those. So, once again, Chargers 0-tiffin-7. That will
conclude today's broadcast. I'm Connor Corey. I'm Tate Christensen. That was Hillisdale Chargers
