The following is a special presentation of WRFH sports.
Good afternoon and welcome to TFO Partners Field at Glenda and Glenda Hill Stadium.
We're here to watch the Hillsdale Chargers take on the Dragons of Tippin University.
Chargers coming off a double-header sweep yesterday.
And I am Christian Papuaul.
My partner in the booth today is Ty Ruddy.
you are listening to WRFH Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Before we start, we're going to go to some pregame interviews with Hannah Connolly.
For the Hillsdale College Baseball team.
Augie, how do you plan to maintain your momentum?
With Augie Hutchinson, outfielder for the Hillsdale College Baseball team.
Augie, how do you plan to maintain your momentum from the previous two games
to ensure a strong start in your final game of the series?
I think just keeping the energy.
keeping the focus and towards the end goal, which is ultimately winning the conference championship.
So I think just collectively as a team, just working hard every day towards that one common goal.
And I think that we definitely could see yesterday the bullpen had a pretty big impact on the momentum of the game.
So how do you see them playing and contributing to the success and turning the tide in our favor if we need that?
I think just the consistency, throwing strikes, not allowing any free back.
which is what we preach as a whole, just doing their job.
And if they do that, at a minimum, just doing their job,
then we should be good as a team.
Awesome. Thanks, Augie.
I'm here with Danny Passanelle Outfielder for the Hillsdale College baseball team.
Danny had a pretty big day yesterday, so I wanted to ask him a couple questions.
Looking beyond this series, how does a win in the last game impact your team's confidence
and momentum heading into this game?
Yeah, it's big not only for the rest of the year, but especially this year.
we lost game one, which is a tiebreaker.
So if we were to split and we were even with Tiffin at the end of the year,
we'd fall behind them in conference standings.
And then just in conference, every win's huge.
Our conference is kind of a toss-up this year.
So if we can just make the tournament and get in,
and I feel like we'll have a pretty good chance going into the tournament.
What are some adjustments that y'all are planning to make in today's game from yesterday?
I know y'all had a win, but there's always things to fix.
So what are you guys looking to fix today?
Yeah, I felt like we left too many runners on base.
Our pitching did great.
yesterday so hopefully they can just continue what they did yesterday and then yeah just a lot of
weekouts too many strikeouts there's there's always a lot of things that you can improve on so just hopefully
we put it together again today for another great great thank you annie going to face the top
all right thank you hannah so we have the left-hander paul brophy on the mound for the chargers
going to face the top three for the dragons.
Dietchel, Fairbrother, and Swonger.
Ty, what do you think of the Chargers' chances today?
Well, I think in any sport, really,
coming off a two-game win streak is confidence-inducing.
And so I think if they play the way they did yesterday
and keep that confidence to have a good chance
to pull this one out, too.
Yes, two really good games yesterday.
an 8 to 3 win and then a walkoff in game 2 on a Aaron Jasek ground ball.
So we're just about ready to get underway here.
And Chargers defense, it looks like the infield from at first base,
we're going to have, sorry, at first base we're going to have Will Shannon at second,
Rocco Tunuta, at short Aaron Jasek, and at,
And at short, and third, Josh Nowak.
Our outfielders, in left we have Hardenburg.
In right we have Saly.
And in center, we have Pasinole.
First pitch.
It's a strike.
And here's the O-1.
And that one misses for a ball.
Paul Brofe, left-hander on the chargers.
And steps back in.
And here comes the 1-1 on the way.
And that's foul left side.
Lefty-lefty matchup between Groffy and Dietzsche.
Here comes the 1-2.
And that one misses for a ball.
There goes a ground ball, shortstop.
J-SIC has it.
in time.
A little bit high that throw, but
had enough to get him.
So that will bring up
Andrew Fairbrother to the plate.
There's nobody
on, and there's one out here in the top of the first
for the Chargers, or for the Dragons
rather. And the first
pitch is in there called Strike.
And
that's fouled off.
Here comes the O.
One two.
And that's outside ball one.
And here comes the one, two.
That's a swing and a miss.
Struck him out.
That will be the first strikeout of the game for Bofi.
So, Christian, what kind of things are you looking for today from the Chargers?
I think good starting pitching is really important here.
Yesterday, in game one, Daniel Higden, the freshman, he had a really solid game.
He went five innings giving up two earned runs, and that put the Chargers in a strong spot.
They're in a strong spot here too.
Oh, yes.
First pitch is ball.
First pitch to Swonger.
And that's a ground ball to short again.
J. Sick has it. And it's in time.
And that will be the end of the top of the first.
So we go to the bottom of the first with a scoreless tie.
You are listening to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
And we'll be right back after this.
You're listening to What's in a Name?
Though this particular Michigan City's name at first look has a fairly simple origin story,
it's a bit more complicated than at first seems.
The name Detroit comes from a French word that means straight like a body of water,
which in turn comes from the city's positioning around the Detroit River.
The river comes from Lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes.
The city still remains as one of the oldest and most important cities in the Midwest.
Though the name comes from French settlements in the early 18th century,
which was roughly 300 years ago,
the land itself has been populated for over 11,000 years by many different peoples,
including the Iroquois and the Huron.
Rich in resources, it was highly contested,
and after many battles ultimately ended up within the United States,
first as a territory and then is part of the state of Michigan.
It has since earned the nickname of the Motor City due to its history with Henry Ford.
This has been What's in a Name.
My name is Megan Pitcock, and you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Still, 101.7 FM.
We're just getting ready to start the bottom of the first inning.
And we have the top three hitters for Hillsdale, Tanuda, Saly, and Shannon.
And Rocco Tanuta, the freshman, leadoff man, he's had a really solid start to the season.
He's hitting over 300, an on-base percentage over 400.
And yesterday in game one of the double header, he had a big two-run doubles.
So really good table setter for the chargers coming up to the box.
As the dragons also have a lefty on the mound, Brunex,
we're just getting ready to start here.
What are you looking for on the hitting side of the chargers today?
Yesterday, the chargers were really good at wearing down the pitchers.
They ran a lot of long counts.
They forced the dragons to bring in a new pitcher every inning.
Because the pitch counts were getting so high.
So we'll be looking for more of that today.
comes set the first pitch it's in there for a strike one
Tenoota went one for three yesterday in game one
that double
here comes the pitch
and that's also a called strike that's an O2 count on Tuna
finds himself behind early
and here comes the O2
and that one's up and in for ball one
Chargers are a very patient lineup it seems
they don't get to phase being behind in the count.
As Tenoota, Skies won in the infield,
and Fairbrother is under it, and he makes the catch.
So that's won away, and Jacob Sully will step to the plate.
Up to bat from Monsedo, Michigan.
Silley is the right fielder for the Chargers.
Swing and a miss, strike one.
Salia is hitting 254 this season, but he's slugging over 500 because of six home runs,
as he'll swing and miss at strike two.
So he also finds himself down O and 2.
And here comes the O2.
And that is high fly ball into left field.
It's left fielder is under it, and he'll make the catch.
So that's two down for the chargers.
And we've got Will Shannon coming to the plate.
He is one of the best hitters on the Chargers this season,
hitting 333 with five home runs.
And he also had a big hit yesterday with a multiple RBI double.
First pitch.
That one misses ball one.
Here comes the 1-0.
That one misses ball 2.
Here comes the 2-0 pitch.
That's grounded foul.
So now it's a 2-1 count on.
Will Shannon with two outs in the bottom of the first, still scoreless tie.
Shannon takes ball three outside.
So with a 3-1 count here, what are you looking for from Will Shannon?
You got a chance to take a little bit of a, I mean, you can swing at this next pitch, right?
Yes, and the pitcher has to throw it in the zone, and Shannon knows that.
As he winds a single into left field, that will put a runner on for Jeff Landis.
20. Jeff Landis.
Landis is the designated herder in today's game.
Another good start for the season, hitting 274 with four home runs.
He'll take the first pitch, and that's a strike.
And Shannon waited on a good pitch and dribbled in the left field for a base.
Waiting on the 0-1.
And a swing and a miss, strike two.
Chargers seem to be a little bit more aggressive today than yet.
Yesterday they were getting ahead in the count early and really working the pitchers.
Here comes the O2 and that one misses outside for ball one.
And comes to one two.
Ball two.
A little bit chilly today at the field.
It's 38 degrees right now and there's wind blowing from right to left.
And it's blowing in a little bit so that might knock down some of the fly balls.
as Shannon
grounds into right field
that's a base hit
looks like Shannon
will hold on second
and that's the base hit for Landis
so two on two out
up to bat
from Northville, Michigan
44
Joe Hardenberg
so you talked a little bit
about how it's
how it's chilly today
well it's sunny today
but it's also chilly
how do you see the weather
playing a factor early in the season?
like this.
I mean, usually baseball is in warmer weather,
so it might affect the pitcher's grip a little bit more.
It might not be able to get as much break on the pitches.
But it's probably not going to be that effective today.
It's still a pretty nice day outside.
Right.
As Hardenberg has the O-1, he grounds it up the third base line, but foul.
Another thing about these chargers is they score a lot of runs with two hours.
Yesterday in the first game of the double header, all eight of their runs came with two outs.
So getting that third out's been a challenge for Tiffin this series.
The 1-1 is low for a ball too.
Both runners taking a small lead off the bases as a 2-1, grounds to short, and they'll go to second for the third out.
So chargers make a little bit of a threat, but they still go scoreless,
and we will go into the top of the second with the chargers and dragons tied at zero.
You are listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM, and we'll be right back after this.
This is The Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group.
The year is 1842 and a patient is about to have a tumor surgically removed,
but for the first time in history, it will be done painlessly.
Born in Macon County, Georgia, Dr. Crawford-Long was a surgeon and a pharmacist who had experienced the brutality of performing surgery without anesthesia.
But all that was about to change.
He administered sephoric ether on a towel and had his patient breathe through it.
And to the delight of everyone, especially his patient, the operation was painless.
Dr. Crawford-Long had discovered anesthesia.
In 1845, he used that same method on his wife during childbirth.
And it must have worked because she bore him 12 children.
This has been the Making of America.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 1.1.7 FM.
We've got a scoreless tie right now if you're just tuning in.
Chargers got two hits, but couldn't get any runs out of it.
The left-hander, Paul Brophy, comes back out to the mound for a second inning after setting the
Dragon is down one, two, three.
Now we have Mirabal in the box.
At bat number 19, Isaiah Mirabal.
As he's waiting on the first pitch from Brofey.
So what have we seen from these Tiffin hitters in the past two days here?
Well, yesterday and then so far today.
What I saw from yesterday is he was, they were very inconsistent.
They'd have some innings where they'd put some hits together and others where they just went down one, two, three.
Here comes the O-1.
He checks his swing, but the umpire says that he went, so that'll be strike two.
Quick O2 for a ball Brophy here.
No, all's two strikes.
Here's the pitch, and that's outside for a ball.
Maybe he tried to get him to chase there.
and the one two is in there called strike three so now here comes brazier into the box
first four batters down for brofee here comes the first pitch to brazier and that is lined into right
field and that will be a base hit good series so far for brazier at bat number 10 Tommy
Now it'll be the lefty Tommy Thamondon to face the lefty Paul Brofey.
As the pitch is also lined, it's into left center, it gets past everyone, it's at the wall.
Here comes the runner, he scores, but Thamon will be out at third.
Brazier scores the run, so the dragons will train.
and out for a run there.
Hatback number 23,
Ty Hatfield.
Now we'll have Ty Hatfield in the box to face
Ball Brofee.
Here comes the first pitch.
And that is in there for a strike.
The 01.
That misses.
That's ball one.
The 1-1.
That is strike two called.
Very good.
at getting ahead early in the counts right now for the Chargers.
And he will swing and miss that's Strike 3.
So Chargers give up a run, but nothing more than that,
as we'll go into the bottom of the second inning with Tiffin 1, Chargers 0.
And you are listening to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM,
and we'll be right back after this.
Welcome to the old ball game, where we talk about the past of America's favorite
pastime. I'm Tate Christensen. Today we talk about the origin of baseball's favorite concession food,
hot dogs. At early ball games, there were no official concession stands, but local people would
sell food to fans who tended to eat things you would eat without utensils. And at the beginning
of the 20th century, German immigrants began to help shape the culture, and people began to love their
dachshund sausages, which were served with a milk roll and sauerkraut. In the 1860s, Chris von deraqi,
a German immigrant and owner of the St. Louis Browns, introduced the hot dog to baseball fans.
At first, they were served without buns, and instead, customers would keep the white gloves that the hot sausages were served on.
However, the gloves were eventually not being returned, and this frustrated the company.
Somewhere along the line the split bun was introduced, and it fit just like a glove.
And now countless hot dogs are eaten every ballgame.
This has been the old ballgame on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
If you're just tuning in, the Dragons hold a one-zero lead against the Chargers.
after an RBI double by Tommy Thayman.
And right now for the Chargers,
we've got Will Mallard, the catcher for the Chargers, in the box.
Now, for the Chargers, the top of the lineup has been very productive.
The bottom, not so much, but it's still early in the season,
so they might just need a little bit of time to get settled in.
And here's the first pitch.
That misses low and in.
That's a ball.
So Hillsdale's looking to string together a couple of hits here.
Down 1-0 is not a big thing, but you don't want to let it slip, you know?
Definitely not.
And if you can get a runner-on of these, the lower hitters for the top of the lineup,
that's a good recipe for scoring runs.
That was pretty consistent with what they were doing yesterday.
So if the bottom of the lineup can perform, you know the top has a chance to bring them home.
Oh, yes.
And Millard will line one into left feet.
that's a base hit.
So he's on, and now we have Danny Pasanoe coming up to the plate.
Trevor City, Michigan, number eight, Danny Pasano.
And another lefty, lefty matchup here.
How much do you think the platoon advantage plays a role in these matchups?
I'm sorry, you said what?
How much do you think the platoon advantage plays a role in this matchup?
Lefty, lefty stuff.
Okay. I mean, I think, well, both teams have a lefty pitcher, right?
So it's, and you know, your lefties are typically more difficult to hit, I think, for right-handed, right-handed hitters.
So I think the fact that they both have lefty pitchers gives each of them a little bit of advantage in the defensive game a little bit.
Yeah, as Pasoenal just bunts foul, that's strike one with, if one of these,
next hitters can get on it would be great to give the top of the lineup multiple base runners so no
balls one strike and passinal steps back into the box and another pickoff attempt he's safe they're
probably just trying to keep him honest there he's not taking a big enough lead that he would indicate
stealing passinal fouls it back passinal hit a triple yesterday he has his
average up to 232. He has four stolen bases on the year. He grounds at the second. They'll turn to
short. They got one. It's too late to get the double play. So it'll be a fielder's choice out.
And we've got Aaron Jasek up to bat. Jasek walked the second game of our double header yesterday.
He walked it off with his hit. Looking for some more heroics from him today.
Jay Sake is also a two-way player.
He usually plays shortstop,
but he saved a game against Findlay last week on the mound.
So kind of a jack-of-all-trades.
How does Hillsdale match up against the rest of the G-MAC this year?
They are on a two-game win streak,
but they are towards the bottom of the G-Mack right now.
Findlay is near the middle.
I mean, Tiffin is near the middle of the GMAC.
And Findlay is one of the top teams.
So to get a win against the GMAC leader, it means something.
Yeah.
And if they can keep that rolling today, maybe that builds a little bit of confidence going into this middle.
It's a late part of the season later on.
Yeah, Hillsdale in conference right now is three and four.
So they are just towards the bottom middle.
of the GMAC and Tiffin is
4 and 3 so a win here
would bring them even with Tiffin.
Stoppage on the field.
I'm not exactly sure
what is causing a stoppage.
I'm not even
but we've got J-Sick stepping into the box.
Looks like we're back.
It comes the first pitch
and J-Sick will take it for
strike one.
Here comes
the O and one and swing and fouled back.
So J.SIC will fall behind O and two in the count.
But like you were saying earlier,
these Hillsdale hitters tend to be pretty patient
and falling behind doesn't appear to frasel them too much.
Definitely.
As JISIC will take ball one outside.
Here comes to one and two,
and Jsick will swing and miss,
So that's two away.
And we've got Josh Nowak coming to the plate.
Up to back from Grand Leads, Michigan, number two.
Pardon me, Kate Nowak.
Pardon me.
There is a Josh Novak on the team, but this is Caden Nowak in the box.
And there's the first pitch.
Swing and a miss, strike one.
Cain Noak off to a solid start.
hitting over 300 this year also.
What kind of things are you looking for in these lefty versus lefty matchups?
Just seeing the ball well and taking good pitches, running long counts.
They're working the runner on first, trying to keep them honest with those pickoff attempts.
Yes, as the runner goes, and the catcher can't handle the ball.
So Millard will be safe at second.
Pardon me, Paso. Milard was doubled off.
No Wack in his third season with the Chargers.
He'll swing and miss, strike three.
So that will end the inning.
No damage for Tiffin.
We're going to head to the top of the third.
And you are listening to Charger Baseball
and Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
And we'll be right back after this.

The Dragons hold a one-zero lead against the Chargers going into the third inning.
Paul Brophy is still on the mound. He's pitched solidly today. He's given up one
run in two winnings of work.
At bat, number 11, Alex
Deal. Getting ready to face
Alex Deal, the number eight
hitter on the Dragons lineup.
The first
pitch is low for ball one.
Here comes the 1-0.
That's
foul left side. That's
strike 1.
Brofey is a senior on the Chargers.
This is his fifth year
pitching for them. He hasn't seen that much
action this season. This is the second
start as the 1-1.
This called for strike two.
Another quick count here for Brofeet.
Here comes the 1 and 2.
He's swinging a miss, struck him out.
So it'll be the number 9 hitter, Grabowski,
coming up for the Tiff and Dragons.
Ad bat, number 24, Aiden Grubowski.
So here comes the first pitch from Brofey to Grabowski.
It's outside ball one.
I've noticed a lot of consistency from Paul Brophy today.
I mean, like we were talking about as the Tiffran hitter swings and misses,
as we were talking about with the Hillsdale hitters,
they don't get frazzled when they get behind in the count.
I think Paul Brofe does a nice job of keeping his composure
when he goes down in the count and battling back,
as we've seen him do multiple times today.
Yes. The breaking ball goes in there for strike two. Here comes the one, two. It's grounded to short.
J.SIC has it, and it's thrown to first. That's two away. So now we've got the top of the order again with Dietchel and Fairbrother in the on-deck circle.
At bat number nine, Adam Dietzl.
So here comes the first pitch from Brofey. And that's just a little low for ball one.
Got two outs here for the dragons.
And that's in there for strike one.
And that's grounded over to second.
Tenuda has it and throws him out in time.
So a quick one, two, three inning for Paul Brophy.
And so the Chargers lineup, the top of the Chargers lineup is going to come up to bat,
the bottom of the third inning.
And you are listening to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
We'll be right back.

Welcome back to Charter Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
If just tuning in, the Chargers' top of the lineup is about to bat at the bottom of the third.
They are down 1-0 against the Dragons, and it looks like the Dragons have brought in a new pitcher.
After Brunix pitched two shutout innings, they have a new pitcher, Joey Kench, a right-hander.
And so Tanuda will be facing a new pitcher now, which it doesn't seem to be a problem with the Charger lineup.
The first game yesterday, they were facing a new pitcher almost every inning.
I think it was every inning, actually, so getting all these new looks doesn't seem to phase the charger hitters.
Up to back number 32, Rocco Tanuta.
And maybe at the top of the lineup here, if they can string together some hits,
we'll give confidence to the bottom of the lineup.
Who you said has struggled a little bit through the early part of this season.
Oh, yes.
And here comes the first pitch to Tanuda.
Here's the first pitch from catch.
and that misses ball one.
Tenoota having a very good season, especially for a freshman,
out of Bartlett, Illinois,
and he is hitting over 300.
Here's the 1-0, and he'll take it ball two.
It seems an interesting strategy for Tiffin to remove a pitcher
that seemed to be rolling.
Maybe it was the pitch count.
Yeah, maybe the pitch count was getting high.
You never know what happens.
In the dugout, maybe there's some sort of tweak or something like that.
But I agree that's a bit of an odd choice to substitute a pitcher who had two shutout innings there.
That pitch gets away from the catcher.
That's ball three.
So Tanuda is up 3-0.
He's probably going to be taking here.
And the pitch.
And that is in there for a strike.
It looked like Tanuda had no intention of swinging at that pitch.
So now it's 3-1.
Second baseman playing a little bit deeper than the rest of the infield.
Tanuda grounds it left side foul.
If I had to guess, Tanuda had every intention of swinging at that last pitch
just because he was up so far in the count.
Oh, yes.
So here comes the three-two.
And another foul left side just misses.
So as you're keeping yourself alive here in a full count,
what kind of things are you looking for?
Are you looking for to swing automatically?
Are you very judgmental about what kind of pitch you take?
I think he's got to try to make contact with anything that could be called a strike.
And here comes to another three, two.
And that is inside ball four.
Tenuda will be on with the walk.
They're the patient Hillsdale hitters again.
Drew a lot of walks yesterday.
That's their first one today.
Up to bat number 22, Jacob Salee.
So now we've got Jacob Salee coming up to bed.
Sali is a senior.
He's played four full seasons with Hillsdale, waiting on the first pitch.
And that's in there for a strike.
One on nobody out for the Chargers right now.
O one count on Silly.
Here comes the O-1.
Almost a pitch-clock violation.
So that will be, it is a pitch-clock violation.
That will be an automatic ball.
I don't know if that was intentional to get a little bit of extra rest in there,
or if he just didn't realize that the clock was running down.
Yeah.
And here comes to another pitch.
And that's in there, ball two inside.
Took great care to get that one out of his hand quick, I think.
Yes.
Salih seems to have found a power stroke this season.
He has six home runs, which is more than all of his previous seasons combined,
and we're only a small ways into the season.
Oh.
Tanuda almost caught sleeping there on the back pick there
with ball three to Salee,
but he makes it back to first in time.
Do you think he was trying to steal there?
I think you're exactly right.
I think he just got caught sleeping.
I think that was exactly right.
He just kind of took a little bit of a lead,
and they caught him there.
I don't think he had an intention of stealing it, it looked like.
And that's a check swing.
That's fouled off the right side.
So now the count is full.
They're making this pitcher work a lot more than they made Brunex work.
Which, as you said, was their strategy yesterday.
So maybe they're trying to go back to that a little bit more.
Yes.
So here comes the 3-2.
And that's inside another walk.
Back-to-back walks for the chargers.
So now Will Shannon, one of the power hitters on this charger lineup,
will have two runners on with nobody out.
it's a good situation here
even a base hit
if it's hit to right field
that probably scores to Nuda
Yeah and it goes
So Tiffin's predicament here goes back
to the exact thing that you talked about
at the top at this inning
Yeah
about how
It's a bit of an odd choice
To remove a pitcher who was
You know
I kept this charger scoreless
The Tiffin pitcher
struggling a little bit here heading into the meat of hillsdale's lineup so i think shannon might be
looking for for some heavy contact here with two on because danny pass in his uh pregame interview with
hannah said that the charges were a little bit disappointed that they left some hitters on base
yesterday so we're looking to remedy that today i think as shannon just steps in to the box
awaiting the first pitch from kensk kensk watches the runners throws the pitch
that's inside for a ball.
You have to wonder if maybe Tiffin was planning a bullpen game today,
so they started one of their better relief pitchers first.
And that is a drive into left.
That's off the wall.
Tenoota is going to score easily.
But that will just be a base hit for Shannon
because Sali will be held at second.
So we are all tied up now in the third inning.
and first baseman for the Chargers,
Jeff Landis will come up to bed.
He's the designated hitter today,
but he also plays in first base.
Okay.
Hillsdale's got some room to work here.
No outs on the board yet,
so they're driving in this inning.
Landis had a single his first time up
to put runners on first and second,
but nothing came of that.
But if he can get another hit here,
that likely scores, at least it scores Sali from second.
Looks like we've got a mountain visit here.
The Tiffin coach is conferring with his pitcher.
Got the infield in.
So Hillsdale, your strategy is to just keep working this pitcher, right?
Keep his arm tired and keep his pitch scout going up and up and up.
Make them try to bring in a new pitcher like they did yesterday.
It's a good spot to be in with nobody out and two runners on.
That was a really solid hit there by Shannon out to left.
Just was not quite to the right spot to allow Salita advanced a third.
So Shannon had to hold with a single.
And it looks like Tiffin may be just brought in a new pitcher, actually.
So.
Yeah, I can't see anything going on in the bullpen.
But it might be that maybe he's trying to buy some time for a,
pitcher to warm up a little bit more.
Yeah.
But it does look like we've got a new pitcher in.
Left-hander.
Left-hander Andrew Siller.
So, yes, new pitcher
coming in for Tiffin.
So Hillesdale right back to where they were yesterday,
wearing these Tiffin pitchers out
and making the coaches, you know,
substitute pitchers constantly for Tiffin.
looks like they're headed back to that strategy that they stuck to yesterday.
It is quite possible that they've brought a left-hander in because, I believe, if I recall correctly,
it was all right-handers that faced them yesterday when they scored eight runs.
And then their starter was a left-hander, and he shut them down for two winning.
So then as soon as they bring in a right-hander, they've got three straight base runners and a run out of it.
Right.
So it could be the different, where the ball is coming from, from their view.
Maybe a strategy move here from the Tiffin coaches to see,
to see if it was the, uh, yeah, the lefties who are, you know, giving Hillsdale some trouble.
And maybe that's the case.
You've also got the lefty, lefty matchup against Jeff Landis,
so it might be a little bit more difficult on him.
But then again, he did hit the single off of the left-handed starter.
of the bat number 20, Jeff Landis.
So we're back in action.
Landis awaiting the first pitch from Siler.
And that's low and away.
That's ball one.
The wind seems to be really blowing.
The American flag out in center is basically straight blowing out to left field.
Here comes the 1-0.
That's fouled back.
Strike 1.
Landis, 274 hitter this season.
not counting his single that he hit in the first.
Here comes the 1-1.
And that is out to right field, running in,
and it will drop.
That will be a base hit.
And the bases are loaded for Joe Hardenberg.
Two for Landis today, both singles.
So now Joe Hardenberg has a real chance to do some damage here
with the bases loaded and nobody out.
Up to bat number 44.
And Hardenberg is another one of the top of the lineup for Hillsdale is really solid.
I mean, from Tunuta through Hardenburg, you've got a bunch of really solid hitters.
And here comes the first pitch.
And that's up the left side.
That's in the outfield base hit.
Shannon is trying to score.
He will.
So that is a 2 RBI single for Joe Hardenberg.
Looks like Landis will hold it second.
and the Chargers now hold a three-run lead, a three-one lead.
They have six hits already today.
Yesterday they were doing a lot of damage with walks.
Now they're just getting hits all the time.
Will Millard will step into the box with nobody out.
He has a base hit today.
He is part of the Hillsdale Chargers solid freshman class.
Millard, Jasek, and Tenuta are all freshmen.
And he shows Bunn.
He bunts it up the third baseline.
And he will be retired at first, but he advances both runners.
So now the Chargers have second and third with one out for Pasano.
Danny Pasano will step into the box.
Chargers really would like to add some more runs here.
Dan Passenol
Checks the runners
Here comes the pitch
Looks like that was a breaking ball
Missed up and in
Here comes the 1-0
To Passenol
That one misses for bowl two
Command problems for the Tiff and Dragons
Here on the mound
Yeah it looks like they're just having a tough time
hitting any sort of rhythm
Passenol pop it up
Behind the backstop
foul. So we've got a 2-1 count with one out. Runners on second and third for the
Chargers in the bottom of third. Here comes the 2-1 and that one is way inside.
That's ball 3. So 3-1. Dragons don't want to walk the bases loaded here. So here's
the pitch and that one's inside ball 4. He does walk the bases loaded. So now
Aaron Jasek, he struck out his last
time up.
Maybe looking for some more
more of what happened yesterday.
Yes.
Really big RBI opportunity
for JISIC.
I think the key is just not to hit an
infield grounder here.
You could basically hit it anywhere else.
It'll swing and miss, strike one.
JISC is waiting for the
01 pitch.
And here it comes.
Outside, ball one.
Runner's retreat.
I think also something you really don't want to do is walk a runner.
Walk a runner in.
Obviously, that's just giving up free runs, which is never ideal.
Yes.
As breaking ball is in there, strike two, that movement on the breaking ball from the left
hander looks like it's going to be outside and then it just catches the corner of the plate.
That's tough against the righties.
And here it comes.
That one is low.
That's ball two.
So two and two with one out here.
And as you mentioned about walking a runner in,
I think that Hillsdale actually got an RBI from a walk yesterday.
And Jasek grounds it to the third base,
and he can't handle it.
And everybody's safe.
That is likely an error on the third baseman for the Dragons deal.
So that will be another run.
That's one of those things with a,
You know, the pitcher is, the pitcher has to trust their defense,
and that's probably extremely frustrating for, you know,
you even said that the only thing you really can't do is hit an infield ground ball.
And he did that, and the defense just couldn't handle it.
Kind of, kind of bobbled a little bit.
Third baseman was probably trying to make the throw before the ball was in his glove.
He was already thinking double play.
I think that's probably right.
Caden Nowak steps in.
He swings and fouls off.
strike one.
Rocco Tunuta,
a Chargers leadoff hitter,
is in the on-deck circle,
and he'll get to bat
as long as Novak
doesn't hit into a double play here.
Here comes the O-1.
Nowak swings and fouls that one off, too.
So he finds himself behind O-2.
And he talked about how strong
the top of the Hillsdale Chargers lineup is,
so if they can make it back
to the top of that lineup,
with bases still loaded,
they're in obviously an amazing spot.
Oh, yes.
and that's another swing and another foul ball.
Very aggressive at bat here from Caden Nowak.
I mean, if the bottom of the lineup produces,
then the top of the lineup doesn't have to do too much
and the Chargers will score runs,
which makes this a very big at bat.
And Noak will swing and miss.
That's strike three.
So that will be two outs.
Rocco Tanuta is going to be the hitter now
with two outs and the base is loaded in the bottom of the third inning.
Chargers lead four to one.
Up to bat, number 32.
Rocco, Tenuto.
Keyet bat here for the Chargers.
Here's the pitch.
And Tanuda will hit it.
Oh, it's caught by the shortstop.
But the throw to third is not in time.
Everybody is safe again.
I guess that was all that's all the shortstop for the Dragons could do there is try to get the out of third.
It was hit in a tough spot.
It was probably going to be a base hit.
anyway. Pretty good recovery from a from a hit that I didn't think he was going to get to.
I thought that was going to left field all the way. Yeah. But they're going to give Tunita a hit on that.
Jacob Salee will take strike one. Sali is 0 for one with a walk at a strikeout today.
The 01 is in there, strike two. So another 02 count. Here comes the 02.2.
And he will swing and miss that's strike three.
So the Chargers inning is over, but not before they add five runs.
We're going to be going to the top of the fourth inning.
Chargers lead five to one.
You are listening to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM, and we'll be right back after this.
Welcome to the old ball game, where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime.
I'm T. Christensen.
Today we talk about the origin of the seventh inning stretch.
There are two commonly told origin stories.
The first has to do with President William Howard Taft.
When he was president in 1910, he threw the first pitch at an opening game in Washington, D.C.
Following the top half of the seventh inning, rumor has that the Taft stood up from his seat to stretch.
The crowd thought he was leaving and stood out of respect.
The second myth centers around a small school in New York,
whose coach and also the Catholic school's prefect of discipline,
saw that the crowd was going a bit stir-crazy.
So, in the middle of the seventh inning, he called for a timeout so that spectators could stretch.
The game then carried on as normal.
No one knows for sure which, if either of these stories are true.
But regardless, the tradition has stuck around for many years.
This has been the old ball game on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
If you're just tuning in, the Chargers now lead five to one against the Dragons of Tiffon.
University. They scored five runs at the bottom of the third off of a bunch of hits, walks,
an error. And so now we've got Paul Brofie still on the mound for the Chargers. He's pitched
very well. One run in three innings, only two hits. And he delivers the first pitch that's grounded
to second base. Oh, Tanuta can't handle it. And that will be an error by the second baseman.
Hard hit grounder just kind of ate him up there a little bit.
So the leadoff man for Tiffin is on base.
At bat number 42, Logan Swanger.
Now, Logan Swonger is the hitter.
Lefty, lefty matchup.
And he will bunt.
Brofie has it.
And he throws, not in time.
He is safe.
So Tiffin getting a couple of base runners early.
Hill's down, sorry, Tiffin looking for a run here in this, in this fourth inning after a less than ideal third inning.
Oh, yeah.
And now Mirabal will hit with the runner on first and second, nobody out.
Pretty good bunt there from Swanger, too.
It was a tough spot.
Brofie was probably the only one who could get to it.
And there's the first pitch, hard foul ball, down the left field line.
so now we're
0-1-1
doesn't look like there's much
activity in the bullpen of either team
so
Hillsdale's coach
is probably going to stick with his
starter
that the 1-1 is outside
ball 1 now it's a 1-1
count
and I think that's the right call
as long as
as brofies
continuing to
strike people out here and there
and let his defense do some of the work
yeah and the 1-1-1
that's into right center that is caught and the runners will retreat so that's one away
Salee will make the play so the chargers with the double play have a chance to get out of this
little jam here and we have Brazier hit coming up he hit a single his last time up
add that number eight Cal Brazier and I think what hillsdale's coach Tom Vassell will be thinking is as long as
Brofee doesn't give up multiple runs.
He's probably going to want him to pitch fairly deep into this game.
First pitch is fouled off by Brazier.
Yeah, I think that makes sense about letting Brofie go so long as he stays consistent.
How deep is Hillsdale's bullpen today in case they need it?
I don't know what their pitcher usage was for the second game,
but I do know they only use two pitchers in game one.
Freshman Daniel Higden pitched five innings,
got the win and then they pass it off to the relief staff he only he threw two innings and closed it
out so we're o and two right now on brazier here comes the pitch and that is low for a ball
seems that on three o's the batter is going to take and on oh and two the pitcher is going to try to
get the batter to chase something yeah that seems like it's it seems about right so far here's the pitch
and that is ground ball
that is just foul
no wax got it at third but still a foul
ball we've got
Fairbrother at second swunger at first
razor in the batter's box
with a one two count here's the pitch
that's just misses outside
ball two
to the count
I'm looking at my grophy
pitch log is down to five as he deals
just misses outside that's
Ball three. Prophy has struck out four batters today in just over three innings of work,
so really good at locating the zone usually.
As we have the full count pitch, and that is fouled, and it's out of play.
The hitter is playing a little bit open here. What do you think his strategy is?
I think he's trying to see the pitch. I believe for left-handed pitching, it usually comes inside.
to a right-hander so you might want to be able to see it into the plate a little bit more as that
one's popped up foul the oh the wind will blow that one the wind is blowing hard from right to left
field so just made that one curl back Shannon couldn't quite get a glove on it it's a foul ball
as you mentioned earlier that that flag out in center field there is really showing us how
How much the wind is working on this ball here.
Especially on those high pop-ups.
There comes another three-two.
And that is into right center.
Salih looks like he's got it.
He'll make the play.
And the runners will hold at their respective bases.
So there are two outs.
And we've got Tommy Thayman coming up to bat.
He doubled his first time up,
was providing the dragons with their only run of the game so far.
At bat, number 10, Tommy Faman.
And Rofi is at 46 pitches so far.
So he probably still has at least another inning or two in the tank,
assuming he gets through the batter as well.
First pitch just misses bowl one.
So we've got a 1-0 on the Dragon center fielder,
left-hand hitter Tommy Thaymond.
He'll swing and miss.
That's strike one.
Here comes the 1-1.
Thaman shows bunt.
The throw-it-a-second to try to pick the runner off is just a little late.
Thamon tried to bunt the runner over there
and almost ended up getting Swonger picked off.
Maybe a little bit of miscommunication there.
Pardon me.
Yeah, Swang.
Fair brother.
at second. And that is
ball three. Top
fourth. Three,
three one count with two outs now for the dragons.
Here's the pitch.
And that one misses. That is the first walk
that Paul Brofey has given up today.
And the bases will be loaded
for Hatfield.
Dragon's designated hitter.
So Brofe, just looking to escape here
if you can...
Yeah, I mean, your options are
striking.
out or let the defense work, but what you don't want to do is have Tiffin hit in more than
more than a few runs that I would think that damages both confidence and then also
not ideal for the scoring situation either.
Although with a five-run lead, with a four-run lead rather, you have a little bit of,
a little bit of comfort.
But best to keep the foot down in the pedal.
Hatfield struck out swinging his first time up today.
Both for one on the day
as he steps in again against Brofe.
Here's the pitch.
And that looked like a breaking ball.
That was in there, strike one.
I think he's just going to try to pound it into the strike zone here.
As strike two called.
That one's also in there.
It's working so far.
Decent movement on what looks like a breaking ball.
That's a ground ball to third.
They will get the out at second just barely, but the Chargers will escape.
After an error to lead off the inning, they don't give up any runs.
They still lead five to one going to the bottom of the fourth inning.
So a little bit scary there, but got away from.
Got away.
You are listening right now to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
We're going to go to a quick break, and we'll be right back after this.
You're listening to What's in a Name.
Though the name comes from French settlements in the early 18th century,
which was roughly 300 years ago,
the land itself has been populated for over 11,000 years by many different peoples, including the Iroquois and the Huron.
Rich in resources, it was highly contested, and after many battles ultimately ended up within the United States,
first as a territory and then is part of the state of Michigan. It has since earned the nickname of the Motor City due to its history with Henry Ford.
This has been What's in a Name. My name is Megan Pitcock, and you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
We're here in the bottom of the fourth inning, Chargers leading 5 to 1.
Paul Brophy pitching very well today.
He got into a little bit of trouble last inning, loading the bases,
but he was able to escape without any damage.
So now we have Will Shannon coming to the plate here with nobody on, nobody out.
And it looks like he will be facing Kenji's.
still. He's the pitcher who's settled things down after the dragon pitching got into some trouble
last inning. Here's the first pitch. And that one's low ball won. So what's Hillsdale's strategy
here in the box moving forward? I mean, are you swinging and continuing trying to get hits?
Or are you kind of, you know, being less less aggressive and trying to just keep his lead?
I think you're just trying to make the pitcher work for it as he takes strike.
one there on the outside corner you just want to make sure that you're making the pitcher throw
a lot of pitches because then you're going to be wearing down the bullpen and especially in the
fourth game of a series the bullpens might be a little bit thin right now Shannon will take
strike two so hillsdale's looking to take their own pitches not necessarily swinging for the fences
here just kind of tying these pitchers out.
That pitch misses outside.
We have a 2-2 count here for Shannon.
Power-hitting first baseman for Hillsdale.
2-2. He grounds it.
Back to the pitcher.
And the throw-to-first is in time.
He will be the first out of the inning.
Now we have the team's designated hitter, Jeff Landis.
Two-for-two with two singles today.
Solid day at the plate.
for the senior
and Landis
will line that one but right at the
Tiffin's second baseman
so that will be two outs.
Two quick outs
right now for Tiffin's pitching.
Which is what they're looking for
after last inning they need to get back
out of offense. You need to get some more hits
to keep themselves
in this game.
So
Joe Hardenberg
who also singled his last time up he's one for two today he'll step in and it's in there for strike one
here comes the second pitch that was up and away that's ball one so one one count two outs nobody on
for the chargers bottom fourth you'll just get a piece of that foul that one back the left-handed
pitching for tiffin has been really solid yeah i think you were right when you mentioned that
as Hardenberg goes down on a swinging on a strike three.
I think you were right that it must have just been the left-handed pitching
that was given Hillsdale some trouble in those first two innings.
I don't recall how many runs that the new pitcher was responsible for in the last inning.
It might not have it even been any, but definitely very quick inning for the Dragons.
As we're going to go to a quick break, you were listening to Radio Free Hillsdale,
101.7 FM will be right back after this.
Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor.
Here's Jinnah Suhita.
On the night of October 2nd, 1952 in Korea,
private first class Jack Kelso was defending a vital outpost
against a vastly superior enemy force
when the commanding officers became casualties.
When an enemy grenade landed in a bunker
holding four Marines besides himself,
he unhesitatingly picked it up, rushed out into the open,
It rolled it back at the enemy.
The grenade exploded as it left his hand,
but Private Kelso refused to move to safety
and instead returned enemy fire,
allowing other Marines pinned down in a nearby bunker to escape.
Kelso was mortally wounded while providing cover for his comrades.
He gallantly gave his life for his country,
and for his valued fighting spirit,
aggressive determination, and self-sacrificing efforts for the sake of others,
Private First Class Jack Kelso was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor on Radio Free Hill Sale,
1.7 FM.
And welcome back to
Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale,
101.7 FM.
We're here in the top of the fifth.
Looks like that coach Tom Vissella
for Hillsdale has sent his pitcher
Paul Brophy back out to the mound
for the fifth inning. Pitching very well,
only three hits, one run.
And he'll throw the first pitch,
and that's a called strike.
To first pitch to
Huzinka.
And that is ball.
Zinka pinch hitting for a deal will probably play the rest of the game at third base.
As that's a shot into left center, back at the wall, it's off the wall.
And that will be an extra base hit.
Huzica will stop with a double.
So another runner on for Tiffin.
And now here comes Krabowski, the second baseman for the Dragons.
By back, number comes the Lord.
waiting on the first pitch
there it is
it's swing and a miss strike one
five run seven hits one error for hillsdale
one run four hits and one error for tiff
again for tiffin too the bottom of the lineup
can produce that leaves things easy for the top of the lineup
and that will be ball one inside
of course for tiffin it has been the bottom of the lineup
getting most of the big hits
so it's been the top who's been struggling a little bit
Um, Dietl and Fairbrother and Swanger are all, well, Swanger has a base hit, but Dietzsche and Fairbrother are both O for two.
Fairbrother reached on the error by Tenuda last inning, but it doesn't count as a hit in the books.
We've got the one-two pitch, and that misses up and away. That's two balls, two strikes.
Nobody out, runner on second base for the dragons. Rofi comes set, delivers.
And that is foul ball down the left field line.
And looks like the wind has picked up even more.
It was kind of a breeze at the start of the game.
And now it's really blowing out to left field.
Here comes the 2-2.
And that's in for ball 3.
We've got Pizekon's second, Brofie in the box.
The payoff pitch is fouled back.
That's still strike 2.
Tiffin leadoff, man, Dietzsche, on the on-deck circle.
waiting for his turn to potentially
potentially bad in a run
and that's the 3-2
it's inside ball 4
so now we've got Dichel
Ad bat number nine
Adam Dichol
So Brofey looking to get himself out of another pickle here
Yes
Two on already has to catch your
visits to mound here
Looks like they're just gonna try to settle him down
I don't see the coach coming out to talk to him, so it's probably just conference,
making sure he's still feeling good.
Game plan for facing Dietzsche, who is 0 for 2 against Brofey today with two groundouts.
Looks like everyone's going back to their spots, just a quick conference.
This is very similar to what happened last time, where the Dragon's got a lot of quick base runners.
So then if Brofie's able to settle down again, it'll basically be a repeat of the last inning.
Ditchell shows bunt
He bunts it
A very good bunt
Brofey fields it
He throws the first in time to get the out
But both runners will advance
So
Dragons have runners on second and third
With one out
So the dragons really threatened here
Brofey looking to put him away for sure
Fairbrother reached on that error
Bytonuda last inning
The 13
Andrew Fairbrothers
almost started a rally for the dragons but didn't amount to anything so here comes the pitch and that's
ground ball to short that will score a run but they have him out at first so we have a five two ball game
runner on third two outs it's probably the right play there you now you have two outs you only need
one more to get out of the jam.
Yeah, you're certainly not looking to take a risk on turning anything double.
I mean, it's a pretty routine play.
Just get the out at first.
When you try to cut them down at home, you risk at having bases loaded one out.
And the first pitch to Swanger is in there for strike one.
Swonger is one for two.
He had a base hit last inning.
He'll foul that back.
That's strike two.
Brofie is again ahead early in the count
He only has given up two walks today
One to Grabowski and one to Thamon
And here comes the O2
That's up and in, that's ball won
Looks like that one got away from him a little bit
Really high
He may have been trying to throw it up and in
But not that far
Here's the one two
Oh, breaking ball just misses inside
So we've got two balls, two strikes, two outs.
Dragons have a runner on third here in the top of the fifth inning.
Here's the pitch.
Ground ball foul down the right field line.
And we're still at 2-2.
Rofi looking to put one more away to get out of this inning with minimal damage.
It's only one run scored so far.
and Grabowski leading off third base a little bit.
Here's the 2-2.
And that's another foul ball out of play on the left side.
Looks like it went into the Tiffin bullpen area.
Looks like we've got a little bit of activity in the Hillsdale bullpen.
They might have a pitcher warming up and they're a little just to be ready to relieve
Brofie if he gets into any more trouble.
Then another 2-2.
and that is fouled down the left side once again.
Real battle here.
Oh, yes.
So here comes another two, too.
And that one misses ball three.
We've got a full count.
Full count to Swanger.
Mirabell on deck, ready to hit in the event that Swonger gets on.
There's the 3-2.
That's way outside.
That's ball four.
So runners on the corners.
Prophy's just his third walk of the day
But it comes at a time when he could have
Could have got himself out of an inning
So not ideal there
But he's looking to
Looking to bounce back with this one here
He only gave up one walk in the first four innings
And this is a second walk of this inning
So
Might be getting a little bit tired
Sensing a little bit of fatigue maybe
Yeah
Inside ball one
Especially as I've noticed
Most of these counts are going
are going pretty deep as well.
As the Hillsdale hitters have been doing the Tiffin pitchers,
it looks like Tiffin's returning the favor now a little bit.
Yes.
It's probably profy's last inning, whether he gets it out or not.
Swonger will run and he takes second base.
Throws a little bit late there.
But Grabowski does not attempt to steal home.
So we've got runners on second and third.
Mirabal in the box.
one and one count and the pitch swing and a miss that will be strike two that was that was a good spot for brofie to hit
here comes a big pitch here comes the one two and that's gets away swanger's coming home that will
probably be a wild pitch on brofie swanger goes to third gravowski scores and now
Now it's a 5 to 3 game.
Still two outs, 2-2 count.
Prophy really wants to get out of this inning, I think.
He really needs to get out of this inning.
The pitch.
Oh, does he check?
No, he does not.
He will go down swinging.
That is strike three.
Diffin does a little bit of damage, but the charge was escape,
still leading 5 to 3, going to the bottom of the fifth inning.
We're going to go to a quick break.

This is The Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group.
The year is 1842 and a patient is about to have a tumor surgically removed, but for the first time in history, it will be done painlessly.
Born in Macon County, Georgia, Dr. Crawford Long was a surgeon and a pharmacist who had experienced the brutality of performing surgery without anesthesia.
but all that was about to change.
He administered sephoric ether on a towel
and had his patient breathe through it.
And to the delight of everyone, especially his patient,
the operation was painless.
Dr. Crawford Long had discovered anesthesia.
In 1845, he used that same method on his wife
during childbirth.
And it must have worked because she bore him 12 children.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Just tuning in, the Chargers lead five to three.
They gave up two runs at the top of the fifth.
Now we're going to the bottom of the fifth.
And it looks like Andrew Siller, the Tiffin pitcher, he's coming in again for another inning of
war.
He got out of the jam that the dragons got into at the bottom of the third inning.
And he's been pitching very well ever since to face.
Charger catcher, Will Mollard.
Mallard is one for one today.
He has a single and a sacrifice.
And that first pitch is up and away.
That's ball one.
Mallard was one of the players who was key in the rally last time up.
And that next pitch is up and it's popped foul.
So that will be a strike.
And the pitch.
And that is into right field.
And looks like easy play for right field or swunger on the Dragons.
So that's won away.
That box score out in right field for the dragons says 0-050.
So other than that one inning, they played pretty well.
They've relied on decent pitching except for that one inning.
So looking to continue the trend for the most part.
And Pasoenol will take.
take ball one that gets away from the tiff and catcher pass an old drew a walk his last time up he's
over one today with the walk and on the other side hillsdale looking to repeat their third inning
run here comes the pitch and that is called strike one erin jacic in the on deck circle ready to
hit one one that that's the breaking ball that's in there strike two good horrid
horizontal movement on that pitch.
And now the one-two.
And that's fouled off.
Back towards, a little bit towards the left field.
Here comes the one-two.
And that's inside.
That's ball two.
Two balls, two strikes.
Nobody on one out for the Hillsdale Chargers,
bottom fifth inning.
And another breaking ball that's in there,
called strike three.
That's two outs for.
Two quick outs for the Tiffin pitcher, Kench.
Those lefty breaking balls.
I'm sorry, Siler.
So it looks like they've brought in a new pitcher, my mistake.
It's just, it's another lefty pitcher that they've brought in.
Number nine, Aaron, Jason.
So I'm sticking with the lefty trend for Tiffin, then.
Yes.
Really trying to keep these Hillsdale hitters off the field, off the bases.
Yes.
J-Sig finds himself at a 1-1 count.
Here comes the pitch from Siler.
And J-Sig, Joe's Bunt, pulls it back, but still called Strike 2.
I actually believe that it's been Siler all along,
and I mistakenly called him Joey Kinch the first time he came up
because Joey Kinch is a right-handed pitcher.
So I think this has been the same pitcher that we've been seeing
since the end of the third inning.
So it's been Siler on the mound, producing for Tiffin.
Trying to keep them.
Jason grounds it to the first baseman.
It's a race to the bag.
Looks like they will get them in time.
So the Chargers will go down, one, two, three.
We're going to go to the top of the sixth inning
where the middle of the Tiffin lineup is coming to bat.
You are listening to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
We're going to go to a quick break, but we'll be right back after this.

I'm Lauren Smith and I run the Grammar Minute Instagram account.
If you haven't seen it, you should because there are pictures of llamas there.
I was on Instagram this afternoon, partly because very few people on that app are formal enough to use semicolons.
There's one particularly wrong way to use semicolons and that is using them to separate items in a list.
I like chocolate milk, comma, hot chocolate, comma, and cocoa.
These items should be separated with commas, not.
semicolons. The only time it's acceptable to separate list items with a semicolon is if the clauses
themselves have commas in them. So for example, I might say, I like sweet things like chocolate and
hot cocoa, semicolon, salty things like chips and guacambole, semicolon, and hot things like tacos. Because
each item in the list includes a comma, it's okay to separate these with semicolons.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Looks like the starting pitcher for the Chargers, Paul Brophy, is coming out again for the sixth inning.
And he's going to be facing Brazier on the Dragons.
First pitch is it catches the plate, strike one.
Brazier is one for two today, a single and a flyout to right.
He grounds it to short.
J6 got it, and in time got it.
I got him out at first, so that's one away.
Pretty routine play there.
So if Brofie performs this inning kind of keeps Tiffin to, you know,
keeps the damage minimal like he has so far.
Do you think they'll stick with him in the seventh inning or do you think they'll
bring in a reliever?
They might want to bring in the relief staff at that point.
Sixth innings is pretty good for a starting pitcher at this point.
First pitch, it's a little bit low.
That's ball one.
I guess that's true because he wouldn't want to rest.
anything you just get a fresh arm in there to close things out especially in a five to three game
and see bunt it kind of bounces around milard and he gets him in time
that was what a throw by milard there in the snag out there on first base very impressive
looks like tiffin's head coach joe wilkins he might want to challenge that play he's out of the dugout
or is that Tiffin's third base coach?
It might be the third base coach.
But it looks like they might want to challenge this play.
Really close play.
I mean, it was a really close play.
I think it could have gone either way.
Yeah, I think that's right.
That bunt took a little bit of a weird balance as soon as it hit the turf.
There is no video replay.
All right.
So it will not end up in a challenge.
And we have Thayman coming up to bat.
So that will be strike one on the hitter.
That one is in there, strike one.
Two outs, nobody on one-one, strike two.
Here's the pitch.
Can't quite get that over.
That one's outside ball two.
Two and two count.
That's fouled back.
Looks like it's a pinch hitter that's up.
Havrilla, that's batting in place of Hatfield.
And the pitch fouled off.
Again, with that play on Feynman, I mean, it was really close.
A bang, bang play.
He may have been safe, may have been out.
It's tough to tell even from up here.
That pitch.
Looks like it hit him, and he will take his free base.
So now we have...
He have Rizika batting.
He came in for deal and hit a double his last time up.
As he grounds one up the left side,
Noak will throw across, and that's in time.
So after a little bit of trouble with that really close play at first,
and the hit-by pitch,
Brofie settles down really well.
He's only given up three innings, three runs in six innings, pardon me.
And we go to the bottom of the sixth inning with the Chargers leading five to three.
You are listening to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
And we've got Andrew Seiler back on the mound for a fourth inning of work.
He hasn't given up any runs.
He's struck out four, walked one.
So all of those runs that were scored in the charges in the third inning
are charged to their right-handed pitcher.
And Noak, that's a pitch.
It's swinging and bounces over the wall.
That will be a ground rule double for Chargers hitter, Cain and Noak.
Ground rule double to left field, very solidly hit.
And now we've got the top of the lineup with Rocco Tanuta batting.
This is a good spot with the.
getting a runner on before you get your leadoff man up?
Yeah, I think that's right, especially against the pitcher who's heading into his fourth inning here, as you said.
Maybe I'm getting a little bit fatigued, looking to work him a little bit as they try to put this game away.
Tunaura will take a strike.
He doesn't look too happy about that, but he has a single on a walk today, RBI.
He shows Bunt.
And that's a foul bunt.
He's down 0 and 2.
So now with an 02 count, runner on second,
nobody out.
Here comes Siler.
Ground ball up the right side.
That will advance the runner.
And Tenoota is retired at first.
So Noak is at third base now with one out.
We have Jacob Sali batting.
and Silly a little bit of a slower day for him he's over two with two strikeouts and a walk
and Sali will hit that into left field that's a base hit no whack will score
that's a beautiful hit there right in the gap right in left field to bring a runner in there
and the chargers have gotten one of the runs back from the fifth inning trouble
Number 29, Will Shannon.
And Will Shannon is going to come up.
He is two for three with an RBI hit.
And he will take the first pitch coming, and that's ball one.
Sili takes a little bit of a lead off first.
Pitch.
And that is into center field.
That's going to get down.
Base hit.
Sili is going for third.
He will be safe.
Chargers have runners on the corner with one out.
and Jeff Landis is going to be the batter.
Jeff Landis is also two for three today.
The Hillsdale finding the gaps in the same angle,
two runners on with a chance to bring another one in.
That was a pretty good play by the center fielder
to keep the ball in front of him
and not give up extra bases to Shannon.
Yeah, a quick relay.
That easily could have been another run for the Chargers.
But Chargers might be beginning to figure out Silor here a little bit with their fourth inning of facing him.
And the first pitch that misses ball won.
And Landis is ready for the pitch.
And that one's in there, strike one.
Infield positioned to get a double play.
Doesn't look like Shannon is leading that far off of third.
And that is into center.
Shannon is tagging.
There's the catch.
And looks like Shannon will score.
That will be a sacrifice fly for Jeff Landis.
Hit pretty deep to left field.
So now Joe Hardenberg is going to come up to bat.
He's playing pretty well today.
He has a hit.
And Tiffin making a mountain visit here.
Maybe looking to give some relief to Siler.
Siler's had a very solid outing until today.
This inning, I mean, this inning he's given up two runs,
but before then he was just shutting the Chargers offense down.
And it looks like that will be it for him.
He's going to be going back to the dugout.
So it looks like a new pitcher coming in.
It's the right-hander.
Can't see his uniform number just yet.
But so the chargers will be seeing a new arm now as Harnberg at least will be facing him.
And another righty who they kind of had a field day with in the third inning
until Tyler came in and shut them down a little bit.
It will be, I think that's number 30, so that that is Francisco Alvarez for the Tiff and Dragons.
He's a senior out of Ohio, so maybe he'll have something for the Chargers' bats.
Chargers have really been hitting the ball well.
They have 10 hits.
They've drawn a lot of walks.
and they've even
forced an error out of the Tiffin defense
and if you put the ball in play
things happens
if you force the defense to make a play
sometimes they'll mess up
while they're trying to close this inning out
for Siler he'll still making a little bit of run
with two more
runs here
and once again
forcing Tiffin to use a lot of pitching
where Hill's deal they've only used
one pitcher so far and in game
one yesterday. They only used two. Daniel Higden went five innings, giving up two earned runs,
and then Chad Stevens pitched a perfect two innings to close things out. Yeah, and like you said,
Hilsdale, or Tiffin here is on their third pitcher. Hilsdale is still riding with,
he'll still riding with Brofie, who will probably, we'll probably get a closer in the seventh
inning, but for the most part, he's kept his arm pretty fresh. Tiffin, Tiffin, Tiffin,
pitchers are really weird.
Ilstale is really wearing these Tiffin pitchers down, and it's not going the other way so much,
as Tiffin would probably hope.
Yes, I mean, they've had a couple of good innings against Brofie, but they haven't been able to string much together
as Hardenberg steps in against Oliveras.
Here's the pitch, and that's the ground ball.
It looks like it's just foul up the third baseline.
Pretty hard hit. Nice stab by Tiffin third baseman. So Hardinberg finds himself behind O and 1.
And here comes the next pitch. The O1. He checks his swing. That's ball. It's ball one.
Successfully held back on that one. So here comes the 1-1. And that's in there, strike 2.
So it's a 1-2 count. There's a runner on first and two outs here.
Bottom of the sixth inning, Chargers held a 7 to 3 lead.
And that is grounded foul again, third baseline.
Looks like he's getting ahead of these pitches a little bit.
He's hitting a lot of pulled foul balls.
Arnberg waiting on the 1-2 pitch.
And there it comes, swing and a miss, that's strike three.
So Alvarez will get out of trouble with an out.
But not before the Chargers put up two more runs to lead seven to three.
We're going to the top of the seventh inning with the 9-1-2 hitters, I think, coming up for the Dragons.
And so we're going to go to a quick break, but you are listening to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
We'll be right back after this.
Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor, this is Minute of Honor.
Here's Jinnah Suhita.
On June 6, 1918, gunnery sergeant Charles Hoffman was serving near Chautau-Tierry, France.
His company had taken Hill 142 and was attempted to consolidate their position.
But immediately after taking the position, enemy forces began launching several hostile counterattacks against the line.
Sergeant Hoffman was attempting to organize a position on the north slope of the hill when he saw 12 of the enemy armed with five light machine guns crawling towards his group.
Given the alarm, he rushed towards the hostile detachment, bayoneted the two leaders and forced the others to flee, abandoning their guns.
His quick action, initiative, and courage drove the enemy from a position from which they could have swept the entire hill with machine gunfire and forced the withdrawal of American troops.
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty, gunnery Sergeant Charles Hoffman received both the Navy Medal of Honor and the Army Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Looks like the Chargers have brought in a new pitcher.
freshman Logan McLaughlin
Retrofreshman out of Milford, Michigan
And so he will come in relief of
Brofey
Who pitched very well for six innings
He gave up three runs
So
Very, very solid outing for Brofe
He's on track for the win
If the Chargers hold the lead here
Hillsdale not looking to do anything fancy
Just kind of closed this series out
with a nice, strong, solid
7-3 victory over the Tiffin Dragons.
As the first pitch
to Grabowski is called a ball.
The 1-0
that catches the corner. That's
strike 1.
And that is fouled
third base side.
So McLaughlin just trying to
hold the Tiffin bats to as
little as possible here.
And the 1-2
misses outside, that's a ball.
Logan McLaughlin has not
seen that much action for the chargers this year but he has had a couple of appearances and it's a
three two count and that misses ball four for for for grabowski he will draw another walk
but mclaughlin he's pitched three in a third innings he hasn't hasn't given up any earned
runs and he struck out three batters in his two appearances before today so very limited appearances but good
results in those limited appearances.
And Deichel will take strike one.
With Fairbrother in the on-deck circle,
McLaughlin is looking, he delivers,
and that is grounded up the right side foul.
For two strikes and zero balls here for McLaughin,
the chance to put one away.
Just looking for a quick out here.
And the pitch.
And that's fouled off.
so it's still owing two
except i mean aside from that walk there
mclaughlin has been attacking the strike zone
here's the pitch
that's up and in that's ball one
looked like they were trying to
maybe pitch out a little bit
to get the runner
may have been attempting to steal
runner goes
and the throw to second
it looks like they got him
the
the
the freshman from
will mallard
a freshman from
o'fowland illinois
throws a strike over to second to nail the runner
and now we're a two two count
on the hitter
and ooh that one looked close but
it's called strike
three that was an interesting call there from the umpire
it wasn't exactly clear
yeah yeah it wasn't it wasn't and even
even Millard there was pretty hesitant.
Didn't quite know.
It looked like he was going to go around the horn.
He thought he might have had the strike, but wasn't quite sure.
But ultimately, two down for Hillsdale.
Now, Fairbrother will bat with two out, and he takes strike one.
So nobody on now.
Logan McLaughlin, after that lead-off walk, he's pitching well.
And that one will also count.
the outside of the plate. That is strike two.
That was a beautiful, beautiful frame there by Mallar. It looked like that one might have been
a little bit outside, but he brought it right back in.
Oh, and that one's fouled off, right side, out of play.
And a good catcher can make all of his pitchers better.
And Millard's contributions can't be understated there.
the game yesterday his pitchers through really well they only gave up three combined runs only two of them were earned
this game only three runs just letting the offense do its job and the one two just misses ball two
two and two on the hitter and that will be called strike three McLaughlin has a scoreless inning three batters faced
really solid.
So we're going to be going to the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Chargers lead the game, 7 to 3.
They have 10 hits.
And so we're going to go to a quick break now.
You are listening to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
And we'll be right back after this.
Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor.
Here's Jinnah Suhita.
On September 17th, 1944, First Lieutenant Donald K. Schwab was leaving his company across exposed ground in France when intense enemy fire came without warning from the woods directly in front of them.
Schwab protected his men and led them forward into the enemy fire.
He rallied his force and struggled to within 50 yards of the Germans before ordering his men to hit the dirt.
He rushed forward alone, firing his carbine at the German foxholes aiming for the vital enemy machine pistol mess.
He charged the German emplacement, ripped off the half cover, struck the German gunner in the head,
dragged him back through a hail of fire to friendly lines. First Lieutenant Schwab's action
so disorganized hostile infantry resistance that the enemy forces withdrew, abandoning their
formidable defensive line. For his extraordinary heroism and selflessness, above and beyond the call
of duty, First Lieutenant Donald Schwab was awarded the Medal of Honor. This is Minute of Honor
on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale,
101.7 FM.
If you're just tuning in with us right now,
the Chargers hold a 7 to 3 lead
in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Olivares is the pitcher.
He got the last out of the sixth inning,
so he will come out to pitch for the Dragons.
And we have Will Millard,
the catcher for the Chargers in the box,
who had a beautiful strike to second base
to catch the runner stealing.
First pitch is low and away, ball won.
So here comes the 1-0.
And that one will also miss.
Catcher tries to frame that one a little bit,
but umpire's not buying that one.
That's ball two.
It was, yeah, it was Grabowski that Millard caught stealing last inning.
Here's the pitch.
Called strike one.
Mallard has a hit and a sacrifice today.
Pretty good contributions offensively and defensively.
2-1, that one catches the outside.
The umpire seems to like that outside corner today on the righties.
2-2 count.
And here's the pitch.
Millard will foul that one off.
Just gets a piece of that one.
And we're still 2-2.
Like I was saying, he's been calling it mostly on Tiffin batters,
but also on Charger batters.
He likes that outside part of the plate.
I've noticed the same thing.
His strikes on it a little bit wide,
and gets to the outside corner.
And that one misses ball three.
So we've got a three-two count for Millard.
Oliveras delivers.
And that is into left field.
That's a base hit.
Another hit for Millard today.
Very good day offensively.
I have Danny Passano.
Up to that, number eight, Danny Passano.
He's drawn to walk today.
He's grounded into a field.
choice and he will step in against oliveres here's the first pitch he shows bunt pulls it back oh
millard malard almost caught sleeping there the back pick barely safe really nice throw there by the tiffin catcher
and passanel will have ball won he was probably running on that bunt that passanil was showing
Passanel takes a pitch in the dirt
ball two
so Pasadno
2 and 0 in the count
and oliveras comes set
here's the pitch
and that one's low ball 3
and 0 count for Paso
real chance to add some runs here for the chargers
here's the 3O
and he takes it inside pitch
strike one though
I mean seems that he's calling that
there on the lefties too. I mean, he's been consistently calling that for both teams. So
it's something that the hitters can get used to as he takes in a pitch that's a little bit too
far inside. It's ball for the runners will be on first and second base for Aaron Jasek.
Up to back. Number nine, Aaron Jasek. Yeah, with any game, any given umpires, a little bit
different. So that's one of those things just have to kind of pick up on as you move along.
And you're right, he likes that outside call.
And as long as he's consistent, there's not really a problem with it.
JASIC shows Bunt, but it will be strike one.
Trying to maybe move a couple more, another runner into scoring position at the cost of an out,
then give No Wack and TNUTA real chance to bat him in.
JASIC pulls back in other Bunt.
This one's a ball.
JASIC is 0 for 3 at the plate today, but he did reach on an error.
And here's the pitch.
goes Bunt again. That's up the third baseline. Looks like they're going to, oh, they get him in time,
but the runners will advance the second and third, which is probably what Jasek was trying to do all along.
Yeah, it looks like you said, advanced another runner in the scoring position to get these other,
these other hitters a chance to bring some guys in.
and Caden Nowak will come up to bat with runners on second and third and one out.
He had a big ground wheel double his last time up.
And then Rocco Tunuta will wait in the on-deck circle.
Tunuta won for three with a walk today.
And Noak will take a ball low and away.
That's ball one.
Looks like Passanil will be leading off of second a good amount.
and that is grounded up the first base line
a little bit too far to be fairs foul ball there
infields has been drawn in
just got to try to cut down the runner at home
in the event of contact
noak looking to put the top of the lineup in a good position here
which he does hits the gap in right field
will bring in one runner
we'll bring in two runners
and he'll get to first himself
so heading to the top of the lineup here
Hillsdale puts brings in two more runs with another man on first big two RBI single there from
Kaden Nowak and so yeah double and a single today two for four day very good setting up the top of
the lineup with Rocco Tanuta looks like looks like the Tiffin coach wants to talk to his pitcher a little bit
looks like there is some activity in the Tiffin bullpen Chargers lead nine to three nine
now after that two-run single by NOWAC.
They have 12 hits.
So, very, very good offensive day.
And the defense, only giving up three runs, too, has been very good so far.
They just need to shut them down for two more innings.
I don't wonder. Sorry, go ahead.
And it looks like Tiffin's going to be bringing in a new pitcher.
And so as they make that pitching change, what did he want to say?
I was just going to say you have to wonder, at least I'm wondering, how much deeper Tiffon can go.
You mentioned that yesterday they had the same kind of thing.
They were bringing in new pitchers just about every inning, and this is their fourth pitcher?
I think it's their fourth.
So you've got to wonder how deep they can go without bringing back in some guys who's already fatigued.
I actually think this is their fifth pitcher.
They had the starter who pitched very well.
They pulled him.
They had the right that won in the third.
Yeah, that's right.
Then they had Seiler who pitched very well.
Then he just got tired.
Oliveras.
Now this pitcher here is right-hander.
Can't quite see who it is.
He can't quite see his number yet.
I think he's number five.
What would be Matt Carden out of Lewiston, New York.
So he will try to pitch for the,
dragons try to maybe get some outs.
He'll still in a good position here with one out, and I think still one runner on first.
And their top three hitters in the lineup.
They've got Tunuta, Sully, and Shannon, which is a very good one, two, three.
Heading right back into the strong part of their lineup with Tiffin bringing in a new pitcher,
another righty where they've had some success, which they've had, some,
some success with
thus far
struggle a little bit with
Seiler who was a lefty
but
and they couldn't
get anything done off
of the starter
but I guess he was
more of an opener
than a starter
giving him two winnings
shut out ball
and it's probably
a good idea to have a hitter
like NOWAC batting ninth
because he can set things up
for your leadoff man
Tanuta
who's more of an on-base machine
than a power hitter.
And now for tip in number five, Matt Perkins.
Which, you don't need that much power in the lead-off spot.
You just need to get on base at the table for the rest of your guys.
Let the power hitters at 3 and 4 do the work.
Oh, yes.
As Tanuda takes the first pitch, strike one.
Here comes the pitch from Cardin.
And that one's outside.
Ball 1.
No whack at first base.
Leading off a little bit. Delivery from Cardin, right back to Cardin at second.
And relay to first, they get the double play to shut down the Chargers rally.
They do get two runs out of it.
So they will lead nine to three going into the top of the eighth inning.
And so that's it.
We will be going to a quick break.
You are listening to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
It will be right back after this.

Today we talk about Jackie Mitchell, one of the first and one of the only female baseball players in baseball history.
Mitchell was born on August 29, 1913 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Growing up, Mitchell played many sports, including basketball, swimming, tennis, and baseball.
In her teenage years, the Mitchell family moved to Chattanooga, where she joined a baseball school,
and scouts from the Chattanooga Lookouts saw her pitch.
In 1931, she signed a temporary contract with the Lookouts to play two exhibition games that year.
On April 2nd, 1931 in a game against the New York Yankees, Mitchell, at just 17 years old, was put into pitch for the lookouts.
The first batter she faced was Babe Ruth. She threw three pitches to him, two swings and misses, followed by a called third strike.
After Ruth, Lou Gehrig was up to bat. Again, she took only three pitches to ring him up.
Many people are skeptical of this game, however, and think that it was staged or was a publicity stunt.
Following this game, Mitchell played baseball on and off until her official retirement from baseball in 1937.
This has been the old ball game on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball at Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Looks like the Chargers have another pitcher on the mound.
They're going to be facing Tiffin's hitter.
First pitch to Swonger is called Strike.
It's gotten a little bit warmer today over the ground.
course of the game. It's 43 right now. Wind is blowing out about 15 miles an hour, right to left
field. This is Wonger fouls off strike two. My mistake, I think it's the same pitcher. I think it's
still McLaughlin. And that'll be a ball inside. And then the one two quickly comes in, and that's
ball two. McLaughlin seems to work fast. He likes to work fast here. I was noticing the same thing. He
doesn't usually let the pitch count go below 10 or 12 seconds as he strikes out the first
tiffin batter called strike three on him so now we've got miraball miraball will also face swangert
and hillsdale pitching works faster than the tiffin pitching from what i've seen and here's the
first pitch and that will be a half swing strike one yeah marra ball a little bit a little bit hesitant on that
wasn't quite a check and wasn't quite a full swing there put him in a bad spot and if he decided he didn't
want to swing a little too late the second pitch goes in the dirt gets past millard that's ball one
now the pitch from mclaughlin and that's out low and outside that's ball two good scoop there from
Millard. Not that it would have gone
much of anywhere, and there's no runner's on,
but...
Two, one, and that's
on the right side,
wind into right,
and that's a base hit
with one out.
Up to bat, number eight, Cal Brazier.
No, Kyle Brazier will come to
bat.
Runner on first, one out.
It's the top of the eighth,
and the dragons are down
nine to three to the Hillstill Chargers.
They got to put in some work here.
First pitch is in there, strike one.
I mean, if McLaughlin pitches well this inning, do you give him the ninth also?
Strike two, I mean, I don't...
I would think so, right?
I would think so.
For the most part, he's done a nice...
I think he had one walk, but he's done a nice job of hitting the strike zone.
He's letting the defense do a little bit of work, and I don't think he's giving up any runs yet.
Strikes him out swinging.
McLaughlin, like I said last inning, he hasn't had that much work to do this year,
but when he's come into the games, he's been very effective.
That pitch just misses ball one.
I think including this game, he's maybe thrown five innings now and still hasn't given up any runs,
has a good number of strikeouts.
And especially in a game like this, I would think maybe it's a good opportunity to get a young picture,
young pitcher some innings just to
you know get them that collegiate experience
yeah
mcgloffin is a freshman
and that's a drive into left center
that will be a base hit they almost
get the runner at second
pretty shallow left center they had a chance
at miraball
heads up play there in center field but
ultimately tiffin is safe
miraball safe on second
almost took advantage
to some bad Tiffin base running there.
That was a little bit too close
for that one Tiffin would have liked to see.
That's outside ball one.
You'd assume that if you get a hit
that hits outfield grass,
everyone's going to be safe at the next base.
You get at least one bag, I would say, yeah.
That one's in there for a strike.
So, really good performance
for the red shirt freshmen so far.
from that hit there.
And McLaughlin, that's a foul ball.
That's one and two count.
Avrilla is waiting on the pitch.
Here comes the pitch.
And another foul ball.
He's staying alive in there.
He shoots that one on the right side.
We're seeing McLaughlin really go after the strike zone.
Like you mentioned, I think the first inning that he pitched,
he's really, he's not.
not doing much much of anything fancy he's kind of just attack him looking for some strikes
looks like he hesitated on the pickoff attempt at second mirror ball's safe just trying to keep him
honest you know tiffin has been a little bit iffy on the basis it's only really gotten them in
trouble once but still with that caught stealing last inning and that pitch oh that just misses
that's ball two so we're at a two-two count here with two outs dragons have runners on first and second
base here in the top of the eighth chargers are up nine to three two two and that's in there
called strike three McLaughlin pitches another scoreless inning gets into a little bit of trouble
but that's two scoreless innings for McLaughlin and we go into the bottom of the eighth inning
Chargers are going to bat we're going to go to a quick point
break, but you are listening to Radio Free Hillsdale, Charger Baseball, 101.7 FM, and we'll be right
back after this.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and I'm here to talk about the golden rule of commas. It's going to be a lot
simpler than it sounds. Are you ready? Here it is. When in doubt, don't use them. Let me explain.
People are often tempted to put commas in places they don't really belong, a common mistake for
example, is to put them between dependent clauses, such as I went to the store, comma, and then the
park. This is just an unnecessary slowdown for your reader, and it can imply separation of
ideas that actually go together. If you say a sentence out loud and don't stop to take a breath,
you probably don't need to put a comma there. Give your reader the freedom to skim. Don't slow them
down when you don't have to. If you're not certain whether your sentence needs a comma,
chances are it doesn't.
In writing, it's better to be a fast talker with fewer commas
than a slow talker with commas every few words.
That's your grammar minute.
Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
We are here in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Chargers are winning 9 to 3.
They have 12 hits on the day against three runs and six hits for Tiffin.
and looks like Tiffins brought in a new pitcher.
They are going to be throwing Patrick Dinnon, right-handed pitcher, sophomore out of Cleveland, Ohio.
So another new look for Chargers' bats.
It hasn't seemed to be much of a problem for them.
They've had a couple of hitters who have a couple of pitchers on the dragons,
excuse me, have given them a little bit of problems.
Like Seiler, he kind of fooled the Chargers' bats for a couple of innings.
as well as Tiffin's starting pitcher Brunix.
He pitched two scoreless, but otherwise hasn't been that much of a riddle to solve for the charger bats.
And so we have Sully batting against Tiffin.
Jacob Sully.
Sully has one for three with a walk today.
He takes strike one.
And then in his come set and he throws.
Another pitch.
And that one's also in there for a strike.
Two quick strikes for Patrick Dinnon against Jacob Silley.
And next pitch misses a little bit outside.
Maybe trying to get him to bite a little bit.
Umpire who calls the outside pitch.
Throw it a little bit more outside than that.
Maybe you can get a swing.
And the one-two on the way.
And a swing and a miss, but drop third.
They're going to get him out at first.
So it's a strikeout.
So one down for dinner in his first inning.
Showing a little bit of promise.
But Hill's still at the top of their lineup here.
Where the heavy hitters sit.
So maybe looking for a chance to take advantage of this new pitcher, this new arm.
You've got Will Shannon.
He's three for four today, RBI's with N.RBI, three singles.
He'll take bowl one.
from dinn that's a chopper in the infield it's a foul ball hit the batters box that one looked fair for a second
but i guess it bounced off the plate or something showed promise but not so and that one is on the
outside corner again called strike two so dinan is up one and two with one out here's the one two
and struck him out swinging.
That's two strikeouts for Patrick Dennan, Tiffin pitcher.
Maybe you ask yourself, why didn't Tiffin bring him in earlier in the game?
Yeah.
Could he use some help right around inning six and seven with Siler starting to get a little bit fatigued?
And Jeff Landis will take ball low.
Landis, the designated hitter, he has two hits today and a sacrifice fly.
I'll take a ball inside. So Landis is up to 2-0.
Two outs here. There's nobody on. The 2-0.
And that is ball in. That's 3-0 now.
Landis with a chance to swing kind of what he wants here, but still got to keep in mind the chance to get on base with a walk.
And that one's right down the middle, strike one.
Looks like Hillsdale's warming up a pitcher in their bullpen. It might be their closer.
And the 3-1, that's low and away, so Landis will be on first with the walk.
And Joe Hardenberg, two for four today, he will come to the plate with a chance to add some more runs.
And the pitch from Dinan, that one's up and in, ball one.
Landis leads off first.
That doesn't look like they're going to be trying to hold them very much.
And Denon throws the pitch.
And that's a foul ball, right field line.
And it lands in the Hillsdale bullpen.
That was quite the hit.
And like we were talking about last game,
there's not that much room to make a play in that right field corner.
It kind of cuts pretty tight there when you get close to the bullpen.
left field there's a little more room and here comes the delivery to hardenberg and that's in there strike two
so it's a one-two chargers have a runner on first two outs here in the bottom of the eighth one-two swing and a
miss for hardenberg that's three strikeouts for patrick dinan and hillsdale will go down one
two three so now we're going to be going to the top of the ninth as the chargers
bring in a new pitcher to try to close things out.

Welcome back to Charger Baseball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
The Chargers are going to be trying to close things out here in the top of the 9th.
They went down very quietly, 1, 2, 3 in the bottom of the 8th.
And now they're winning 9 to 3, so they've given the ball to Andrew George, 510 Jr.
out of Slovenia, Ohio.
Try to hold Tiffin's bats to as few runs as possible win the game.
Charger offense has been very good today.
Pitching's been solid too.
Only one really kind of rocky inning for Jack Brophy, the starting pitcher,
fifth inning there, giving up two runs.
Up to bat, number 25, Connor Huizica.
We have Huizinka batting against George to lead off the game, lead off the inning.
And he will take strike one again on that outside corner.
Tiffin looking to
He'll ground it to first
Shannon will take it all by himself
That's one away
So now we're gonna bring up
Grabowski for the
For the dragons
Oh my mistake it looks like it's a pinch hitter
For Grabowski
This is gonna be Jack Clancy
Pinch hitting
And he will take strike one
And then Dietzsche is still in the
On deck circle
Did that hit him? Was that a
No, that was a foul ball, I think, off of his...
No, it just missed him.
All right.
My mistake there, it's one in one.
And the infield is going to just talk to their pitcher, George?
Looks like Tiffin may have thought it hit him.
Might have hit the umpire.
I thought it had hit Clancy, but I guess...
I know.
Maybe not.
The way it bounced, it looked like it either hit as bad or hit.
him may have been off the umpire then because yeah because i heard a sound too so it must have
must have hit someone and it didn't look like it hit the catcher no and wouldn't have bounced
that way but looks like we're ready to resume play here everyone's all good jack lancy steps back in
ander george comes set here's the pitch and that just misses that's ball too there's a two one count
nobody on and one out.
Top of the ninth inning.
Two one.
That misses outside.
That's ball three.
And that will be a line into center.
It's caught.
So that's two outs.
Nice play out there by Pasoanel and center.
So Hill's still now, just three strikes or one out away from finishing off this series
with a commanding nine to three win over.
Tiffin.
After a disappointing 7-0 loss in game one of this series,
they have really come back with a double-heder sweep yesterday,
and then they're winning big today.
I just strike one to Dichel.
Oh, that one kind of gets past the catcher.
So that'll be ball one.
We're just a little bit of a delay.
I think the umpire got hit again in the foot.
Now George comes set.
The 1-1.
That's deep left center.
Ardenberg's got it.
The ball game is over.
Chargers win 9-3-3-3-3-tick-down Tiffin three games in a row to win the series 3-1.
They pull even with Tiffin and the standings, the G-Max standings.
What a game.
Ty, did you see anything notable at the end there?
It was a fun game.
I think Hillsdale was really solid all the way through.
able to keep their bats going for the most part.
Had a few difficult innings,
but had that big five-run third inning
and then six and seven, two runs each.
Their pitching was really solid all the way through.
So I think just a really good game on both sides of the ball
for Hillsdale, Tiffin struggled a little bit,
and Hillsdale was able to take advantage.
Very nice wind to close out the series with for the Chargers.
So yes, that's the game.
Thank you for listening.
