Hello and welcome to 101.7 FM, Ready for Hillsdale.
This is the Charger Rundown, and my name is Evan Mick.
I were doing things a little bit differently today.
We don't have an interview for you, but you have a lot of sports updates.
Hillsdale Football's head coach Keith Otterbyn announced retirement
after a very successful 22-year career with 11 winning seasons,
four conference championships and two division two playoff victories.
Huge shout out to Coach Otter.
Replacing Coach Otter is coach Nate Shreffler,
who was a Chargers offensive coordinator for the last 13 seasons
and has been coaching at Hillsdale since 1998.
He's also a Hillsdale College Football alum.
The Great Midsd West Athletic Conference announced that Hillsdale College Football had the co-player of the year,
so a huge congratulations to star running back, Mike Herzog.
Including Mike, Hillsdale had three first-team all-conference players, including Nick Affleter and Riley.
They also had three second-team All-Conference players in Ili-Lie Hidemis, Ben Gino, and Sam Lee.
The Charger Volleyball team won big this past weekend, winning the GMAC Conference Tournament again, as they always find a way to do.
The all-tournament team included four Hillsdale players, including Ali Weiss, Lauren Pais,
Marilyn Popwell, and the tournament MVP, Maisie Brown.
First, they defeated Cedarville in three sets.
Amanda Killicker had 16 digs, Adelie Wig's had 12, Marilyn Pappelwell had 17 kills,
Maisie Brown had eight, and Adi Sysol had seven.
Addie Sissom also had six total blocks.
Lauren Pesalia had 33 assists, and Audrey Riley had six service aces.
They defeated Finley in three sets as well, starting all three sets in a deficit, and slowly
digging their way out all three times.
Amanda Killaker had 17, Maryland Popple had 15, and Alie Seh had 11.
Megan Culp had 12 kills, Marilyn and Pappel had 11, and Masey Brown had nine.
Masey Brown had seven blocks, Megan Culp had five, and Sidney Saar had four.
Marilyn Pappelowell also had four service aces and Lauren Pesalia had 36 assists.
They then defeated O'DU in an exciting five-set match to win the tournament.
A'Irise had 19 Diggs, Audrey Riley had 13, and Amanda Killer Care at 11.
Macy Brown had 15 kills, Maryland Pappell had 13, after dealing with an early entry, but playing through the pain.
Megan Culp had 10 kills, and Emery Braswell had 7.
Lauren Pissale had 35 and Josie Tassol had 9.
Macy Brown had 6 blocks, Marilyn Pau had 5, and Megan Culp had 4.
The Chargers are D2 tournament bound.
so follow along on the Hillsdale Chargers website when those games get announced.
The Hillsville women's basketball team also had a very successful week.
Sidney Mills got to her 1,000 rebounds in the game against Quincy,
and head coached coached Brianna Brennan got her first win as head coach,
but they unfortunately fell to McKinjury the game after.
In the win versus Quincy, Sydney Mills had 31 points and 15 rebounds,
Caitlin's plane had 16 points of five assists,
Lauren McDonald had nine assists and six rebounds,
and Sydney Panasick had eight points.
Versus McKinjory, Laura McDonald had 17 points and nine rebounds.
Sydney Mills had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds,
and Caitlin's playing had 11 points and Kendall McCormick had 10.
The Chargers play at home versus Lake Superior State on Tuesday and at Roosevelt on Saturday
the 15th. The Hillsdale Men's basketball team continues their undefeated season against Michigan
Dearborn, defeating them 80 to 46. Being at this game, I don't think the score defines how dominant
the Chargers were. Joe Ruter had 21 points, shooting four for nine from three and also adding
four blocks. Charles Woodhams had a double-double scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds, which included
six offensive rebounds. CJ Yerian and Ashton Janakowski each had 10 points, and Yerian
added eight rebounds. They travel up to Northern Michigan on Tuesday and play at home against Grand
Valley at 3 p.m. on Saturday. And thank you for listening to the shortened version of the
Charger Rundown on 101.1.7 FM, ready for hillsdale. Thank you and roll chargers.
