Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. My name is Evan Mick, and today I'm here with Sydney Mills, who just broke the Hillsdale total rebounding record with 1,147 rebounds and counting. So what did getting this record mean to you? I think this record is mostly just like a testament to all the time that I've put in here. Being a fifth year, I've been here for quite a while and gone through seasons in our first couple where we didn't win very many games. And now we've kind of built the program up to be in a successful one. And it kind of just shows how much time I put in and how much hard work I've put. in an effort every day. And I'm happy to be able to get that record and keep it going. So did you know that you were getting the last rebound when it was the one to get the record? Yeah. So on Thursday, I had a pretty good night. I ended up having 17 rebounds against Ohio Dominican. So all of my teammates after the game were like, you know what that means, right? Like, you're two away. You're two away. And so going into Finley, I was pretty confident that I would be able to get two rebounds. And my coach just kept me in for the first quarter the whole time. And
Starting point is 00:01:00 Everyone went crazy when I got it. So I knew that it was coming up and I knew I only needed two, which is a pretty low number. So I know we've talked about this before, but can you just explain again what your secret to rebounding is? Yeah. From a young age, my parents always told me like, you got to find a way to contribute, like, on the court. And sometimes scoring just isn't there for you.
Starting point is 00:01:21 And I kind of took that pretty personally from a young age and kind of just know that I can contribute every single day by rebounding by just like going in there. and, you know, that's an effort, energy thing. So I've kind of had that in the back of my mind since I was little, and kudos to my parents for kind of instilling that in me. So a couple of games left this season to especially to further this record, but what do you think is next for you and this Chargers team? I think we have a ton of potential coming up in the next few games.
Starting point is 00:01:48 We're right now kind of fighting for good placement in the GMAC tournament, and one good thing about our league is that every single game is very winnable. For our team, I think our main goal would be to try to address, advance as far as we can in that GMAC tournament. And if we can, we'd love to upset the Ashland Eagles. I mean, they're really good. So we'll see what happens there. But that's kind of a team goal. And then personally, I just want to continue my mindset in the last few weeks has been to just give my 100% effort at all times because once these couple weeks are done, I'm done too. So just keeping keeping the foot on the gas.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Thank you for joining me. And once again, congratulations to Hillsdale's new all-time rebounding leader, Sydney Mills. You're listening to 101.7 FM, ready for Hillsdale. Have a great day. The
