Starting point is 00:00:03 You'll never believe what I saw in the woods. Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is a large hairy humanoid cryptid said to inhabit North American forests. Mr. Foot is somewhat of a cultural icon as of the mid-20th century, appearing in many folklore and pop culture media moments. Most sightings claim the large ape-like creature is covered in dark hair and is roughly six to nine feet tall. Anecdotal evidence sometimes makes Bigfoot seem more supernatural than cryptozoological
Starting point is 00:00:32 with details like glowing red eyes, a foul smell, and even shape-shifting abilities reported. Although real-foot enthusiasts will tell you that these details are exaggerated for storytelling effects. Many sightings have been documented with some becoming more mainstream than others. The Patterson-Gimlin film is the most famous of these. Two hunting pals, Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin, shot a video in Northern California in 1967 of a tall, dark, furry figure walking and glancing back at their camera. The short, grainy 16-millimeter movies served for decades as the cornerstone of Bigfoot evidence. Many have claimed it was a hoax, while other experts have demonstrated that the stride and weight shifting of the creature work against the idea that it could have been a friend or one of the men in costume.
Starting point is 00:01:11 While some sightings hold up to scrutiny, others can't take the heat. There was a case in 2008 where a Georgia man, Rick Dyer, claimed he had shot and killed a Bigfoot after luring it in with Walmart pork ribs and barbecue sauce. He toured the body of this Bigfoot and reportedly raked in something between $60,000 and $500,000. Before this scam, he had already teamed up with a Georgia police officer to claim they'd found a dead Sasquatch and then go on to sell the frozen specimen, which turned out to be nothing but a frozen rubber gorilla suit stuffed with slaughterhouse leftovers for a whopping $50,000 before eventually being caught. Unfortunately, no conclusive proof of Bigfoot has been brought forward yet. I'm Olivia Henson, and this has been a crypted moment on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Thank you.
