The following is a special presentation of WRFH Sports.
First and 10 at the 25 in Dragon Territory.
Then two whiteouts to his left, two to his right.
As I say it, a little of a crossing cavern on the right side,
he was going right to the post and nobody was anywhere near him.
That's a touchdown and this is a tie ball game now.
Touchdown for the Hillsdale Charger.
Are you ready?
Hillsdale Charger Football on Radio 3 Hillsdale 101.7 FM starts now.
Camden Mulder and I'm here with Sarah Catherine Sisk and we're going to be reporting the game for you today.
Hi guys like Camden said. My name is Sarah Catherine Sisk. We're so excited to be here.
Evan Mick and Hannah Connolly did a pregame interview with our starting quarterback Colin McCurnan yesterday and so we're going to go to that so you can hear a little bit about him. He's a sophomore. It's his first game starting because our
Other quarterback got a concussion last week, and so it's going to be a big day for him.
So let's hear what they have to say.
Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
I'm Hannah Connolly.
I'm here with Evan Mick, and Colin McCurnan, the starting quarterback for tomorrow's game
against Ashland.
The former starting quarterback, Cole, got a concussion in last week's game.
So Colin is step up to start today, or tomorrow, should I say, this will be playing
today. And Colin, let's just talk a little bit about what does that mean for you. You're stepping
up. You're leading the team. You're a sophomore. So it's a little bit newer. You're younger than
some of the guys. How are you going to be leading them tomorrow in the game? Well, first off,
it's just super cool to be able to lead the full team out there. It's awesome to have my family,
come out and see. I only live about an hour away, so they're all coming out to see. But I can't
say I'm not prepared. I do feel very confident in the team's ability to do well against
Ashland. I think we have a very good game playing cooked up. I think we have a very good game playing
cooked up. I think we'll be able to execute.
So, Colin, this is obviously your first start as your career, but how are you preparing
differently and what's the same for you as it has been?
I think really through football, preparation comes the same because you'll never know when
your number is called. I don't think anything's been different. I think I've been just as
locked in as I have every other week.
Yeah, but I don't think anything's different.
I think it's just the same old.
Get to work.
Right.
So getting to work, you're prepping for Ashland, you're watching film.
As the quarterback, what are the things on defense that you're looking to capitalize on in the offense,
some of their weaknesses, or what are some of their strong suits that you're looking at
to make sure that, you know, you're prepared for everything against them?
So they do run a lot of open middle.
So a lot of post throws, post-dig concepts will be open.
Some RPOs will come in the game.
I think that we'll be able to capitalize in the run game as well.
I think we have an advantage up front, and I think our running backs can get the job done.
So this will be playing, obviously, right before the game.
So what does your pregame routine look like?
What are you currently doing while this is playing?
So right now I'm out with three or four other quarterbacks,
throwing some short routes, top of routes.
I'm kind of probably sitting on the corner of the field, just thinking,
listen to music.
I'll be out there, warming on my arm, warm on my hips, same old kind of deal.
So, yeah.
So team time, you're excited.
You know, this is your first start.
What are you most excited for for this game?
I'm most excited just to honestly live in the moment.
I think it's going to be super cool opportunity to walk out there
and start a college football game.
It's something that I've been talking about my whole life.
And I'm just really excited to execute and win.
Well, thanks for joining us, Colin.
Good luck tomorrow.
And we're super excited for you to get that W against Ashland.
Thank you.
Okay, Sarah Catherine.
Radio Freehold.
Two and a half minutes left on the clock until the game starts.
Ashland and Hillsdale both have O&2 records right now.
So today is going to be a big game for both teams.
Yeah, absolutely.
We just had a really beautiful version of the national anthem sung by a student, I believe.
And I know normally Hannah and Evan like to pick a game-changing charger at the beginning of each of these games,
basically just someone who they've been keeping their eye on,
and think is going to be a really key player in the game today.
I know we've talked a little bit about this,
and I think our head's sort of in the same spot, but who are you thinking?
I mean, I think we definitely have to first just bring up Colin,
who's starting today, as you said, for his first game as the quarterback,
probably, you know, it's a big day for him, so a lot of pressure,
but I think he can handle it, and he could really, you know, change the game,
be that game-changing charger if he rises to the occasion.
Yeah, absolutely.
I think another name to point out is our wide receiver, Shea Ruddy.
He's definitely the best wide receiver on the team.
And so that's going to be a really integral part of the game today.
So I think basically if he can catch the ball, I think we can definitely win the game.
Yeah, and him and Colin, I mean, good choices for us in the sense where they really need to work together to change the game, the wide receiver and the quarterback to, you know, really important players on the team.
And we'll have to see if they can do it today.
a win for the Chargers. Absolutely. Ashland traveled out here from Ohio. They're located in
Ashland, Ohio. As we said, their mascot is the Eagles. Their colors are purple and gold.
So we'll, we'll have to, oh, and it looks like we're about to do the coin toss. So we'll see which team
wins that. We have, I see Landon, Bink, one of the captains standing out there.
Let's see who else that is.
I'm trying to see their numbers.
The visitors making the call.
They called tails.
The Ashland called tails.
Okay.
So let's see what it is.
I guess it says the captains out there should be number 23, Connor Pratt,
number 25, Vince Francis Gown.
Number 26, Logan Van Inken Fort, and like you said, 96, Landon Van Bate.
Hillsdale won the toss.
Okay.
So Ashland's receiving.
Okay.
And it's good to note that both Landon Van Beek and Logan Vanekvore are out for injuries for this game.
So they will not be playing.
Good to know.
So two of our team captains are not playing.
Are out for today's game.
Yes, as you said.
We'll have to see how that plays out.
Yeah.
Definitely.
Yeah.
So we have a really fun tradition about our games historically between Ashland and Hillsdale.
So we have a trophy tradition.
The traveling trophy game between Hillsdale and Ashland grew out of a shared tie between the two schools
in the form of Hillsdale College graduate Donald R. Mossie.
A World War II veteran from Elkhart, Indiana, Mossie graduated from Hillsdale College in 1951
after starring as a guard on the Charger football team.
Mossie went on to become an incredibly successful entrepreneur in several fields
and played an important role on both the seminary board at Ashland University,
where he served for nearly 40 years,
as well as on Hillsdale College's Board of Trustees from 1966 until his passing in 2010, 14 years ago.
The traveling trophy between the two schools was originally dedicated in his honor,
and the tradition persists until today.
So that's exciting.
We'll have to see who gets the trophy then today and how that tradition plays out.
Fun little tip of knowledge, a fun fact for this big game versus Ashland.
Absolutely.
Oh, we have, they're about to start the game.
Let's see here.
Is that number 46?
Number 46 kicks off.
That's Evan Mick, who also sometimes does the play-by-play commentary for Radio Free Hill Sale.
So the ball was spotted at the 27th yard line.
We have the teams regrouping there.
Okay.
See, Ashland snaps the ball.
Passes it to number 13.
Down at the 30-yard line, it looks like.
That was a, did we say this completed pass?
Yeah.
Jack Trachett, number 12, took him down.
And we are at the 31-yard line.
A live free webcast of today's game is available through Hillsdale Chargers.com.
You can click on the live video link on the navigation bar at the top of the page for Saturday's broadcast.
Let's see here. We're regrouping again.
Okay, so it's the ball number four.
Oh, it was.
Chargers took down number 28.
There was no gain on the play.
We are now at fourth down.
The Chargers have a 26-21 edge over their rival Eagles all time
and have split the last two meetings with Ashland winning the most recent contest, 3814.
So today's a big game for the Chargers to see if they can make that comeback and get the win.
Let's see.
That's number one, Shea Reddy, caught the ball.
We have the student pet band playing a fun song in the quick break while we have the two teams regrouping after Hillsdale caught the pass.
To the grammar.
Okay, we have passed to number 85 on the Chargers, fighting and stay up.
It was a complete pass.
Completed pass number 85, Andrew.
The first down for the Chargers.
They're making some headway, heading down, trying to make it down to the end zone, see if they can get a touchdown.
Ball was handed off to...
Oh, that guy just rolled right over his head.
It was Kyle Riffle.
Small gain.
Kyle was taken down my number 36 on the Ashland Eagles.
Number 13, pass number 30.
to Kyle Riffel number 30.
They lost one yard on that play.
We'll see if the Chargers can get back to first down
or if they'll head to fourth down after this next play.
I think Kyle Riffel will be a key player this game as well.
It looks like he's got the highest average rushing yards
for our team this season.
I know he's,
definitely had some big shoes to fill but I feel like I've you know been hearing his name a lot
this season and he seems to be doing a pretty good job in the past there was complete to hillsdale's number 85
and over from our former coach Otterbine.
He was formerly the offensive coordinator for the Chargers
and has become the 30th head coach in Hillsville College history.
For now at the 20-yard line, Ashland has the ball.
Quarterback number 14 passes to 21, a completed pass.
Oh, he's taking the ball down there. He's got him.
He takes him down. It looks like around the 15-17-yard line.
He was brought down by Chargers to go.
Jack Trachian.
He was brought,
the Ashland was brought down by Chargers number 12, Jack Trachet.
They're rapidly approaching the end zone.
So we'll have to see if Ashland gets a touchdown in any of these next couple of plays.
You know, people sometimes say that Hillsdale has definitely been a back-half team in the past.
And we're known to be able to, you know, change the dynamic of the game in the second half of the game.
So we'll see if that happens today.
And number 28 from Ashland just scored a touchdown.
So the score is 0 to 6 Hillsdale, Ashland.
And we'll have to see if they can score the field goal here and bring up the score to 7.
Got nine minutes and 39 seconds left on the clock.
Going for the field goal.
And Ashland scored.
So they got the extra point after the touchdown.
Bringing the score to 7 Ashland, Zero Hillsday.
We have a quick timeout.
So you're listening to Chargers football on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds out of time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and I have a potentially upsetting opinion.
Mechanical pencils are just better.
Some of you were assuming the buzzer went off because my opinion is wrong.
First of all, it's just an opinion so it can't really be wrong.
Second, there was a grammar mistake in that sentence.
Mechanical pencils are just better.
Then what?
Snails, pomegranates, pens, markers?
This is called an incomplete comparison.
Terms like better, worse, smaller, and so on are comparative adjectives.
When you use these, you should always specify both of the things you're comparing.
As with everything, there are exceptions.
If you're writing informally, and it's obvious what you're comparing based on context,
you can sometimes get away without specifying the second object.
Mechanical pencils are just better.
Could be a clippy response to a friend who has just made the opposite assertion.

I am Camden here with SK, and we are so excited to be talking about,
today's football game here at Frank Underwater Stadium we have Hillsdale College
versus Ashland University Ashland recently just scored a touchdown so the score is
seven Ashland zero Hillsdale and we're getting ramped back up to see what else
is going to happen in today's game just had a kick off from nine 87 a J.
Rhodes from Ashland University a little update on some out-of-town scores we have
Finley versus Lake Erie seven zero they're in their first
quarter we also have Ohio State versus Marshall and they are tied 7-7 in the first
quarter watch to see what else is happening in those out-of-town games as our own game here in
Hillsdale progresses so I just had a little five-yard gain just a reminder the
score is seven Ashland zero Hillsdale with about nine minutes and ten seconds left on the
clock. Oh, we just had a flag. That looks like, yeah, I think that was a flag.
Then we all start. Offence. 23. Five-yard penalty for offense. It's still second down.
Yeah, it was a penalty for a false start. So we're back to the 35-yard line.
Second and 10. Ball was passed to Chargers number 21. He's running.
making it down, making some serious, serious ground.
He was, that was 25-yard,
25-yard carry by Hillsdale.
It was number 21, Zach Tetler.
The charges are pushing forward, getting close to potentially their first touchdown of the game.
Ball pass to number 18, and he was taken down by,
it looks like Ashland's number nine right before the 30.
yard line.
Let's see.
It's the second down the Chargers.
Historically, the Chargers have a 26-21 edge over their rival Eagles and have split the last
two meetings with Ashland winning the most recent contest at 38 to 14.
Ooh.
Oh, we had an incomplete pass to number 19.
Trying to see who 19 is.
Oh, another solid attempt by the Chargers.
We had number 30 trying to run with the ball, but was taken down by the Ashland Eagles.
Let's see, yeah, number 30 is Kyle Riffle.
As you said earlier, Kyle has been a major player so far in this game.
He's been running with the ball quite a bit, so we'll have to see if that continues.
Definitely.
We've historically had some, I definitely think he has big shoes to fill.
I know we have people like Michael Herzog and stuff who came before him,
who have broken records for their rushing yards.
And so I definitely can imagine that would feel like a lot of pressure.
We have just about six and a half minutes left in the quarter.
The score is still seven Ashland zero Hillsdale.
There was just a two-yard pickup.
So we're at second down, second and eight.
Let's see what the charges are going to do with this play.
Oh, number 13 tried to pass to, it looked like number 87,
but now it was intercepted by number 24 from Ashland and he ran it down to the other end and scored a touchdown.
Ashland just scored on Hillsdale's play. So we now have the new score.
13 Ashland, zero Hillsdale. Ashton looks thrilled about their touchdown. That was a
shocking moment for Ashland to be able to pull that out while Hillsdale had.
had control of the ball there.
Mm-hmm.
Let's see if they can score that extra point.
We're down at the end of the field.
And Ashland scored the extra point.
So the score is now 14.
Ashland, zero, Hillsdale.
It's definitely going to be interesting to see if Hillsdale can clamp down on their defense
and keep Ashland from siphoning off points like that
because we're about halfway through the first quarter
and Ashland's already made two touchdowns.
So, you know, this could potentially be an exhausting game
for the Chargers if this is the way that it keeps up.
But as I said before,
sometimes they do their best work in the second half of the game.
So we will see.
We've historically seen that, like you said,
we've historically seen that from the Chargers.
They can pull through back at the end of the game.
And, yeah, today could be another example.
of that. Absolutely. And two touchdowns is not, it's not a game ending score. There's still, as we said,
just under six minutes left in this first quarter early in the day. Beautiful day out here,
might I add, in Hillsdale, Michigan. Right. And yeah. See, it looks like we've got Ashland's
kicker lining up, I think is that, AJ Rhodes? Yeah, like I said, it's, I mean, it's only half a quarter in,
which means they've got three and a half quarters to turn the game around. Looks like, yeah, that is
Jay Rhodes, a 6-1, 170-pound junior from Worcester, Ohio.
Kicks the ball.
Let's see.
All the way to the end zone, it went.
It was a pretty impressive kick.
So we had a touchback there, and now the chargers are taking back over at first and ten.
on their 25-yard line.
Mm-hmm.
See, hands off to who was that?
There's a pile of a guy, so it's hard to see who that was passed to.
There's a gain of four yards on that play.
A reminder that a live webcast of today's game is available on Hillsdale Chargers.com.
You can click on the live video link on the navigation bar at the top of the page for the broadcast.
Personal foul called on 99.
Defense sounds like he grabbed the face mask of the other player.
Interesting. I think that's 99.
That must be Michael Schemeck, I think.
A junior from North Canton, Ohio.
We're at first in 10 for the Chargers.
Scores still 14 Ashland, zero chargers, five minutes and 30.
seconds left in the first quarter.
All past the Hillsdale's number 21.
Taking down on the 45-yard line.
Three Ashland Eagles were involved in that take down of the charges number 21, the
line of scrimmage.
They're getting set back up up.
a new play. We'll see if they can make any ground. Oh, there's a whistle out on the field.
Let's see what's happening, why the whistle was called. Offside, 99 defense. Offsides for number 99 defense.
Second down for the Chargers. There's a result of the penalty. The ball is on the 49 yard line. Let's see for the second down.
Number 21 with the Chargers trying to run with the ball once again stopped pretty much in his tracks.
That was Zach Tedler, right?
The Chargers.
He's been trying to break through the line of the Ashland Eagles quite a few times in these past couple plays and has continued to be stopped.
So we'll see if this next one on the third down, if he can break through, make some headway for the Chargers.
We're third down and seven from the 47th yard line with the Chargers.
Oh
Incompleted
An attempted pass to number
23
And it was knocked
knocked out of the air by
One of one of Ashland's
Players
I think is that number three
And now it is fourth down for the charger
So it's a make or break moment
They have one more
One more shot to
To gain some yards
And get back
to that first down so they can continue toward the end zone.
We'll see if they can do it.
Oh, and there was a punt and...
It's at the 17-yard line is where the ball landed, so...
So it's first and 10-yard line.
So it's first and 10 for the Ashland Eagles now
after the Chargers punted the ball
and it landed at the 17-yard line.
No score yet for the Chargers.
I can imagine I would be not happy if I was thinking about working myself out of that hole right now
so really in the game but I guess it's a good thing they have time left let's see here there was
whistle out in the field actually there's getting set up okay and Ashland passed to number
looks like 28 and he was he was taken down
By number 43, Carson Ingraham.
Ashland has been consistently scoring this game every time I've had obsession with the ball,
so we'll see if they do that again this time or if the chargers can stop them and get back on offense
to try to even out the score and get a touchdown.
Yep.
Third down already.
Ashland has made almost no headway.
in terms of yardage when they've had possession of the ball this go-round.
So it seems like...
That's a step in the right direction for sure.
The chargers might be tightening up their defense as they get a sense for how they need to play
this game to keep Ashland from winning.
See, here, Ashland's number 14 passes to zero.
Take the ball.
Oh, and the pass was complete to number zero on Ashland, and he was knocked out of bounds.
By number zero on.
the Chargers also Ryan Nixa.
But it's now first down.
The Eagles made just enough headway to get out of that dangerous fourth down territory,
and they're back to first down.
It looks to be just under the 30-yard line.
Mm-hmm.
About 29.
14 hands off to number 15.
Makes it to the...
Around the 35-36 yard line, let's see.
35.
It's now second down for Ashland.
There's about two minutes left on the clock in the first quarter.
Scores still 14, Ashland, zero Hillsdale.
Eagles have the ball.
Number 15 gets taken down by number 12.
It's Jack Trachett.
He stopped him at the, what is that?
34, 34, 35-yard line.
So not much headway there again.
It seems that Ashland does really well when they can get the ball out of the pack and pass it to a wide receiver.
Someone who can run really far.
That's how they've scored their first two touchdowns is getting it to someone on the outside.
So let's see if.
Definitely.
Oh, hard hit.
Oh, it takes number 21 on the Eagles taken down after getting hit.
Brutal hit.
Yeah.
He didn't get taken out that first time, though.
That looked painful, but he seems to be okay.
He's up.
He's up.
He's a complete pass to Drew Johnson, wide receiver for the Eagles, a junior from Van Wirt, Ohio.
He's 5-11 and 197 pounds.
Hand off to, let's see, that was number 15 with the Eagles.
But big pile up with the charges.
We are currently second down for the Eagles.
About 18, 17 seconds left in the first quarter.
The chargers have yet to score.
Let's see if Ashland can do anything to score in these last few seconds.
Passed, complete, it looks like, to number zero on Ashland.
It didn't seem to make any headway in terms of yardage.
And that is the end of the first quarter.

All right then.
Let's hit the road.
Welcome back to the second quarter of the second quarter of the first.
of today's football game, Hillsdale Chargers against the Ashland Eagles.
Score is still 14 Ashland, zero Hillsdale.
It's been a tight game.
Ashland has had some really good offense.
They've obviously scored twice, but Hillsdale's holding their own too.
So we'll see how the next three-quarters of the game go.
That team 132 is taking on Ashland at home today.
in the most recent clash for the traveling trophy
that these two teams hand off
and have had a tradition going
since
looks like there was a foul
number 88 on the defense
based on the reaction of the crowd
people seem to be pretty frustrated by that foul.
It is
First down with the Eagles in possession of the ball.
About 14 minutes and 30 seconds on the clock.
Second down, six yards to go.
Looks like we're at the 42nd yard line with Ashland in possession of the ball.
They're getting ready to start the next play.
So number 14, hands off to number 28.
He's taking the ball down.
Finally gets stopped by the chargers around.
the 34-yard line.
Ashland definitely has a very energetic offense, I think.
So I think Hillsill has got to stay on their game to make sure they can stay on top of that
and clamped on that before it gets away from them.
Match their energy there.
Yes, match their energy, if you will.
Oh, number 14, looked like they were going to pass to 28, but it was a fake-out, long pass.
Attempted pass down to number four.
it was incomplete
so
interesting play but it failed
there for the Ashton Eagles
so they are
looks like still at second down
with 10 yards to go
yes 13 minutes
and 30 seconds left in the second
quarter yep it's definitely
a warm day out here today
glad that I'm not playing football
same
just for the 39 yards
line quarterback number 14 almost sat intercepted by number 43 with the chargers running down to the
end zone let's see if he can score a touchdown here and touchdown chargers touchdown for the
chargers finally broke through to turn that game around so now that brings us this score of
six to 14 we'll see if if they get number 43 carson ingram there scored the touchdown he
intercepted Ashland's pass and ran almost half the length of the field there to score the touchdown
for the Chargers. The crowd is electric here. They're so excited for the first score with the home team.
We now have number 10 on the charger holding for number 44. We'll see if he gets this final game
point. I bet, I bet Ashland's start to sweat. Yeah, yeah, definitely. They're going to have to
to really lock in.
Like Sarah Catherine said, number 44 is about to make an attempt at the extra point.
And the point is good.
It's good.
That brings us to a score of 7 Hillsdale to Ashland's 14.
Just a reminder, you're listening to Chargers football on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome to the old ball game, where we talk about the peasant.
of America's favorite pastime.
I'm Tate Christensen.
Today we take a look at baseball cards.
In the mid-1800s, baseball and photography were both becoming popular,
so baseball teams would often have their pictures taken.
Soon, some of these photos appeared in wallet-sized editions,
but they soon became a means of advertising.
Companies began printing cards with baseball pictures on one side
and advertising on the other.
Most of these companies were cigarette companies.
The oldest surviving card is from the Brooklyn Atlantic's around 1860.
But the most famous baseball card of all time, often called the Mona Lisa of baseball cards,
is the 1911 American Tobacco Company card of Honest Wagner.
Wagner was one of the greatest hitters and defensive players of his time.
His card was rare due to his objection to the use of his image for commercial purposes.
In 2022, the card sold for $7.25 million.
This has been the old ball game on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to today's football game, where the Hillsdale College,
Chargers are taking on the Ashland Eagles at home.
We are in the second quarter now, and Ashland is leading with a score of 14 to Hillsdale's 6.
Oh, it looks like the point was reversed then, that extra point.
It was.
That the Chargers had originally scored.
First down for the Chargers for the Eagles.
With 10 yards to go in the second quarter, 13 minutes, and.
17 seconds. Let's see here what Ashland plans to do to work toward getting another touchdown.
Pat, handoff to number 28 and taken down a little small pile up looks like on the 25-yard line.
Number 41, Jacob Vance took down the Ashland Eagle, who's running with the ball.
They're regrouping for first down.
10 yards to go at the, it's like the 26, 25 yard line.
Pass number 14.
There's 44.
Passed number 44, I think.
But he was brought out of bounds on the far side of the field.
Brought down by number six, Will Wims.
So we are now third down with three yards to go.
In the second quarter, 12 minutes and 10 seconds.
remaining in this quarter.
Ashland's still in possession of the ball.
An update on some out-of-town scores.
It is the second quarter in the Finley-Lake-Eary game.
Score 14 Finley-Lake-Eary 6.
We have Walsh and Kentucky Wesleyan 10-0 in the first quarter.
So I have to continue to see how some of these out-of-town games play out as we see how the Chargers do against the Ashland Eagles at home.
at the Frank Moneywater Stadium here in Hillsdale, Michigan.
First down, 10 yards to go.
Ashland's stolen possession of the ball.
Pass to number 28, trying to break through the center there,
which, as we said before, it seems Ashland kind of struggles with that sort of play
when they try to break through.
Chargers have really strong defense there, not letting them break through the center.
It's now second down, eight yards to go.
So small gaining yards there for the Ashland Eagles.
but not enough to get to first down.
14 passes to Ashland's number 12 and taken down by number 20 on the Chargers.
He almost scooped up under number 12.
That was Bart Bixler with the Chargers, number 20.
Got right up under Ascham's 12 there and stopped him from advancing any farther with the ball.
It definitely feels like it could be anyone's game today.
Hillsdale and Ashland have a tradition of passing off a trophy of the traveling trophy game between Hillsdale and Ashland grew out of a shared tie between the two schools in the form of Hillsdale College graduate.
That was a good stop from the Chargers.
The previous stop from Bart Bixler brought it to third down.
It looks like we are still at third down.
The 35-yard line.
Oh, fourth down now with 11 yards to go.
from that most recent stop from the Chargers.
And nine minutes and 50 seconds left in the second quarter.
Shea Ruddy, number one, is now in the game.
He was one of those game-changing chargers we talked about before the game started.
He, as Sarah Catherine said, is by far one of the best receivers on the Chargers.
He grabbed the ball after a kick and is running down.
of the field with it. He made it to the
looks like 22nd
26th yard line.
Brought down by the Eagles, Zach Highton
on the 27th yard line.
It is now first down, first in 10 for the Chargers.
They now have possession of the ball after Ruddy
was able to
able to get that, be on the receiving end of that kick.
It's a big day for a sophomore Colin McCurnan, as we talked about earlier.
It's his very first game as the starting quarterback for the Chargers after another quarterback,
number five, Cole Cantor was concussed recently.
So I'm sure Colin is definitely excited, but I can imagine he's probably a little
especially against Ashland with just such a rich history between the two schools.
It's definitely a big game for us for sure.
Yeah, so basically there is a common graduate between Hillsdale and Ashland.
And we tied with Ashland quite a while ago.
And so now there's a trophy that sort of gets handed off back and forth between whoever has most recently won a game.
And so I definitely think it feels like there's a little extra skin in the game.
for both teams for that reason.
Both teams also have
the same record
right now. So
that's, we're going to see which
one of them will
break that. Oh, a pass, an attempted
pass. And number 10.
Number 10 from Ashland knocked the pass.
And it was
the pass was attempted to also
number 10, Aiden Kowach with the
Chargers from
Caledonia, Michigan.
It is fourth down with eight yards to go,
eight minutes and 31 seconds left in the second quarter.
Chargers have the ball.
Punt from number 90 on Hillsville College Chargers.
Number 20 for the Eagles catches it.
Tempts to break through, but the chargers are bringing him down and pushed him back.
Actually, he had made some headway and in the tackle pushed him back.
to the
35th
yard line.
Brought down by number 20,
Bart Bixler for the Hillsdale College Chargers.
A few more updates on
some out-of-town games.
We have Ohio,
Dominican versus Thomas Moore. They're in their second quarter.
Zero for Ohio, Dominican,
three, to Thomas Moore.
Oh, and there was
two yard penalty for the holding on the returning team
Ashland appears to be huddled on the other side of the field
discussing their next moves
result of the penalty the ball is being spotted at the 26 yard line
with the Eagles in possession of the ball
so they are on offense and we'll see if charger defense can hold them back
from scoring yet another touchdown.
We've got eight minutes and 15 seconds left in the second
quarter. Ashland leading 14 to Hillsdale's six still. Still anyone's game. That's a really close score.
Definitely. No saying how today's game is going to end. And as we've said a couple times,
you know, major rivalry between these two teams. Beautiful day for a football game.
Beautiful sunny day here in Hillsdale, Michigan. We have number 14 handing the ball off to Ashland's
zero.
Ashland definitely feels like they move well.
They feel like they're a little bit more, if they can get past us,
it feels like they're a little faster and a little more agile.
But I feel like if we were in the right spot,
we definitely, it's hard to break through us.
Yeah, Hillsdale continues to have pretty strong defense today.
As we've said, anytime the Ashland Eagles try to break through the center of Hillsdale's defense,
it's, they're stopped almost every time.
Is that a completed pass, the number four on Ashland?
Ashland Eagles.
And taken down, it looks like by number 11 on Hillsdale team, push number four from
Ashland Eagles out of bounds.
Taken down by number 11, Gavin Chenvee.
We are now at second down with six yards to go.
Ball is still in the possession of the Ashland Eagles.
With six minutes and 47 seconds left in this quarter, it feels like this quarter is flying by
isn't it Sarah Catherine? Definitely.
A lot of action out in the field.
Absolutely.
Oh, number zero on Ashland was taken down by Hillsdale's number 43.
Just grabbed his feet there and yanked him right out from under him.
And we're now at third down with eight yards to go in the second quarter.
Ashland's getting down to the wire here on if they can make a score while they're still in possession of the ball.
third down is a dangerous spot to be in it is we've got some students out here supporting it
definitely seems like some more kids have showed up than there was at the beginning cheerleaders are
looking well number 14 attempts to pass to number 13 on ashlin and the ball was just out of his
reach tries to stretch and grab the ball and misses it and just rolls onto the ground so ashen's
attempt to break out of that third down territory was unsuccessful
We are now looking at fourth down for Ashland with eight yards to go.
Still in the second quarter here, five minutes and nine seconds remaining.
The two teams are getting set back up again.
Another out-of-town score update.
Ohio State is at 28 points versus Marshall at seven in the second quarter.
It's the number two for the Ashland Eagle punts the ball.
Tries to run to get it before it goes into the end zone.
Number 12 from Ashland, but just bear it.
really missed it. So the whistle was blown and we are switching. Hillsdale is now going to be on
offense. See if they can score another touchdown and try to even out this score going into
halftime, which will be in five minutes and 50 seconds. Very exciting game today. But I would say
both teams are evenly matched. Yeah, doing a good job. Definitely. That's what always makes for
an interesting game.
See, Hillsdale's got the ball and see if they can make something happen.
Hands off to number 21.
See, it's taken down by the Eagles at is at the 22nd or 23rd yard line.
Two-yard gain by the Chargers.
Second and eight.
Just under five and a half minutes left to go in this quarter.
They're at the 22-yard line.
And as we've been, oh, and a fake out there.
It looks like they were going to hand it off.
And then, oh, interception from Ashland.
Number 20 from Ashland intercepted the pass.
Jumping around the field there.
Seems pretty excited that he intercepted the pass.
Hillsdale appears to be frustrated.
Oh, and there was a...
The crowd is thrilled by that call.
Obviously, we're home at Hillsdale,
so stadium's filled with lots of Hillsdale fans.
and they were happy to have to hear that.
They called interference on that, on that attempted interception.
We are now at the 37th yard line after the penalty.
Second down, eight yards to go.
Now we're first down 10.
Ashland is still leading 14 to Hillsdale's 6.
Hand off to number 21, tries to break through the center.
there right through the middle and gain some yards. I don't know it was enough to get down to
a first down. So we broke out of second down territory, we're now first down with 10 yards to go.
Four minutes and 36 seconds left in this quarter. Hillsdale's making some headway, trying to
get into that touchdown territory. Pass number 21 again. We have Hillsdale's number 21. Zach
Tetler who keeps getting the ball handed off to him and he's running with it.
Yeah, he seems to be doing a good job today.
Making some consistent efforts to get the chargers closer to a touchdown.
Four minutes and 18 seconds remaining.
Score is still six chargers, 14 Ashland.
There was a 15-yard penalty against offense.
I believe it was a-hillsdale for hands to the face.
I just call it on number 38.
So 15-yard penalty.
We're still at second down, but any...
That hurts.
Any gain that number 21,
Zach Tetler,
previously made in the past two plays for the Chargers,
has pretty much been reversed after that penalty.
Back down to around the 28th yard line, I guess.
I can imagine the Chargers are frustrated with that call.
Mm-hmm.
But still four minutes in the half,
only second down.
Crazier things can happen.
Crazier things have happened,
excuse me,
Hillso could still score a touchdown.
Makes it to around the 35th yard line.
34th.
Gained five yards on that play,
but it's still third down
with 13 yards to go.
As we've said before,
third down is not a place
any team wants to be in because you're getting
close to obviously losing possession of that ball,
but let's see if Hillsdale can with this play breakthrough.
Oh.
Our quarterback, Colin McCurnan, sophomore, who is starting for the first time today,
was just sacked on that play by Ashland.
That's brutal.
We're now at fourth down, 22 yards to go.
Just about three minutes left in the second quarter.
Mm-hmm.
Scott, let's see.
Looks like we're at the 24th yard line.
Oh, it looks like, I believe the Cargers called the timeout.

possession of the ball. Appeared to be a fumble by Ashland and then Hillzell was able to grab the
ball two and a half minutes left until halftime so big move right before the conclusion of the first half
of the game the the charges are excited you can feel the energy from the team down on the field
score is still 614 with two minutes and 29 seconds left in the game as we said the chargers now have
possession of the ball it's first down 10 yards to go and
And we are about to conclude the second quarter.
So it will be interesting to see if Hillsdale can pull out a touchdown fast at the end of this.
Oh, and number 30, Kyle Riffle had the ball trying to make some headway, but was taken down by Ashton.
Ashland.
Just a little over two minutes left until halftime.
Second and 18 yards to go.
Let's see
Let's see what's going on here
Are they calling?
Is that two minute timeout?

From the break here at the Frank Money Water Stadium, Hillsdale's possession of the ball, a minute in 54 seconds left on the clock.
Second down 16 yards to go.
We are now third down a yards to go.
So Hillsdale's, they're making some traction, they're moving.
They are still, you know, in third down territory, which is not where anyone wants to be, but moving toward the end zone, trying to score before the quarter ends.
So number 13.
Attempted pass.
Attempted pass, number one for the Chargers.
Try to pass to Shea Reddy.
Shee Reddy is the intended receiver.
Obviously did not catch that ball, as Sarah Catherin said.
Chargers look like they're regrouping trying to figure out what they're going to do.
And this last, just over a minute and a half, if there's anything they can do to try to score
and, you know, even the playing field going into the second half of the game.
There's no foul on the play for a defensive pass-in-fares.
There's no foul on the play, so now chargers are at fourth down is what the rest said.
So it might look like that that interception was
potentially for nothing
and they didn't gain anything out of it
but it's not over till it's over
they still could break out of fourth down.
Yeah, that's true.
He's at number 90, Ian Woodward with a punt for the chargers.
Oh, and the ball appears to have hit number 11
on the chargers down by the end zone.
That's Gavin.
to Navy.
So we had a touchback there.
And now the ball is in possession of the Eagles.
First in 10.
One minute and 42 seconds left until halftime.
So we're getting down the wire here in the first half of this game.
Some updates on some out-of-town scores.
We have Gannon versus Cuts Town.
Zero to 23.
They're in their second half.
Central Michigan,
versus Ball State, 10 to 7, also in their second half.
And the Ohio State versus Marshall game still at 287, and they are at halftime.
We'll have more updates on the out-of-town games as our game here in Hillsdale progresses.
There's a three-yard game by Ashland as they were in possession of the ball.
score though is still 6.14 with a minute and 18 seconds left to go.
Let's see what Ashland plans to do with what little time they have left.
It is only second down, so they're not in a bad spot yet, but, oh, and the whistle was blown.
Let's see what happened on the field.
Score is still 6 Hillsdale, 14 Ashland.
There's no foul on to play.
There's the official fault.
There's not give the defense time to match up.
There's no foul on the play, but the wreck just announced they did not give defense time to match up.
So, resetting here, but no foul on the play.
Second down and seven.
14 hands off to Ashton's 28.
Breaks through the Chargers.
That normally doesn't happen.
28 has been taken down a couple times by Charger defense when he tries to run through the center,
but he made it through and there was a gain in yards.
So they now are at first and 10 with 49 seconds left in the second quarter.
Good play by Ashland, working towards scoring another touchdown before halftime.
We'll see if they can do that in 49 seconds.
They're in a good spot being at first down, first and ten, as I said earlier.
So both teams are huddled talking about their plan of action going forward.
Another out-of-town score update, Finley is 14 versus Lake Erie at 6 in their second quarter.
Walsh and Kentucky Wesleyan, 23-2-3, also in their second quarter.
And Ohio Dominican versus Thomas Moore, zero to three, also in their second quarter.
And Eastern Michigan versus St. Francis does not start until 2 p.m.
So once, or that game just started actually.
So we'll have some updates on that one soon.
It's a high stakes game today.
Asshland and Halesdale have both yet to win a game this season in the GMAQ.
They both are at 0 and 2.
for each of their
their season records so far.
One team will continue on a losing streak
and one will break that streak that they've had.
So let's see, yeah.
And obviously, records can really change the momentum of a team for a season.
Obviously, once you get that win,
it can really change the team morale
and you can continue to win after that.
So we'll see how both teams do
and which one's able to pull through
at the end of today's game.
Only 10 seconds remaining on the clock until halftime.
Second down, 11 yards to go.
It does not look like Ashland's going to score a touchdown.
And they do not, as the second quarter of the game just ended,
and we are officially entering halftime.
We still have Ashland and lead at 14 to the Chargers 6.
You are listening to Chargers football on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM,
we'll see you back after half time.
Welcome back to the Hillsdale College Charger football game
where the Chargers are taking on the Ashland University Eagles today
here at home at the Frank Moneywater's Stadium.
That was just a beautiful tribute to the Get 2 Foundation
thanks to Hannah and Evan in that quick commercial break there during halftime.
Foundation does great things and it was awesome that they were able to speak about it.
As Sarah Catherine said, we're here at the Frank Muddywater Stadium.
Score is still 6 Hillsdale 14.
Ashland, the chargers are back out on the field, getting ready to warm up as we are approaching the beginning of the third quarter.
Mm-hmm.
As we've mentioned before, Hillsdale and Ashton have a pretty complex history of going back and forth with this traveling trophy because we basically have a student.
a pretty complex history of going back and forth with this traveling trophy because we basically
have a student in common with Ashland University who I think went to Hillsdale for undergrad and
Ashland for a period of time as well and so we tied a game with them a while back and ever since then
there's I guess a trophy that the two teams will trade off every time somebody wins right now
Hillsdale and Ashland have both yet to win a game this season.
So that's another reason why this game seems to be pretty interesting so far.
They seem pretty evenly matched.
I don't know.
Camden, who do you see winning today?
Winning today's game, you know, as we've said earlier,
Hillsdale tends to be a bad half of the game team.
You know, they can pull it forward at the end.
The score is still really tight and we're home in Hillsdale.
So I'm going to vote Hillsdale, but Ashland's,
been proving to be a tough competitor and they're definitely putting it all out in the field today.
So I hate to say it's a toss up, but I do think I'd put my vote on Hillsdale.
Fair enough.
What do you think?
That's tough.
I don't want to be a pessimist.
But yeah, I feel like, you know, as a Hillsdale college student, I sort of have to say
Hillsdale, but I do think it's going to be a pretty close game.
Last week, the Chargers faced off against Michigan Tech, and we had a couple players of the week.
Our offense player of the week was Andrew Konyetskney.
We had offense scout team, Kyler Carson.
Defense was Vince Francisco and defense scout team, Ryan Ruddy, special teams, Matt Soderdoll, EP Award, Hunter Spurling, and the Big Stick was also.
Hunter Sterling. The EPP Award, I think that stands for every player, every play, right?
Well, Hunter Sperling won. Annie won the Big Steak Award, so that's big week for him.
Big week. I haven't heard Hunter's name much today. I wonder where he is. I don't know.
Maybe we'll hear it a little bit in the second half of the game. Maybe he's one of those
second half of the game, back end of the game players. It's going to pull out the win for the
Chargers. We just got to watch a nice halftime performance from the Hillsdale College cheerleaders.
which is pretty entertaining and we've seems like the student section has all but disappeared um there's
10 guys left yes some from i think some of the men's dormitories here they like to wear um
costumes yeah to the games another part of halftime was the competition amongst the men's dorms
yes between simpson and galloway yes who won i believe it was simpson that that makes sense yeah
the the guys in the dorms who are evidently not on the football team
went out and faced against each other.
Clearly.
For the halftime game.
That was fun to watch.
They did some passing.
Some of the,
they caught some good passes.
Maybe they should try out for the football team.
I don't know if we do tryouts,
but you could ask.
This might be their chance to get recruited.
We've got the pet band out here today.
They've been sounding good.
It also looks like they are maybe down a couple players.
It is hot over on that side of the field.
That's true.
Our visitors sit.
It's a warm day.
on the home side and up here in the box we're in the shade but across the field they're in full
sign because i don't know about you sir katherine but i do not see a cloud in sky no it's a beautiful
day here in hillsdale beautiful day beautiful fall day yeah ashlyn's lucky to get to be here today
they are lucky and they're beating us so they're probably feeling extra lucky but as we've said it is
anybody's game it really is the clock just reset and
it's back up at 15 minutes. It looks like the third quarter is about to begin. The teams are
filing out in the field getting set for the punt. We're going to see obviously what happens from here.
Ashland has the ball. I'm sure everybody, all the players are eager to start the second half of the game.
I can imagine after having two losses and no wins yet this season. They're ready to
ready to change that.
For sure.
Let's see here.
We have Shea ready out in the field,
one of our game jane charters we talked about earlier in the day.
One of our best receivers.
We'll see if he can receive this ball.
As receivers do.
Oh, it's heading back right for him, actually.
Perfect.
Caught.
He caught it, and he is running with it.
Yeah, he's making his way.
Some serious headway.
Almost to the 25-yard line.
Looks like he's about, what is that?
23?
24.
24.
I believe it's 24.
24-yard line.
Exciting moment for the Chargers, kicking off this third quarter.
Absolutely.
Some positive momentum for the team.
We'll see if they can keep it up.
Yeah, Chargers taking over first and 10.
24th-yard line?
Yeah, I feel like if the Chargers just keep doing what they've been doing,
They seem like they're, you know, once they kind of find their spot, they're being a little bit more consistent now.
They just needed to get in the groove.
Yeah.
And they're continuing.
So good for them.
We have some switches being made.
Number 21, number 23 are now off the field.
They were replaced for this play.
We'll see if that helps the chargers at all, switching up the.
The manpower.
Second and 10.
Oh, the whistleblown.
Flag on the play.
Looks like.
Is that off?
To me, it looked like 98 jumped the gun, but we'll wait for the official call.
The reps are discussing.
Yeah, we're not qualified enough to speculate, I don't believe.
False start.
Number 18, offense.
Five-yard penalty.
Well, that's why.
one way to start the second half of the game with a full start so looks like the chargers with that
five-yard penalty are back on the 18th yard line it is second down with 15 yards to go 14 minutes and 10
seconds left in this third quarter some slight momentum there for the chargers and set back with that
penalty so we'll have to see if that is discouraging it all if they're able to shake it off and
score a touchdown in this run here let's see hands off too is that looks like
there's a huge pile up it's hard to even tell i know number 30 Kyle Riffle
Kyle Riffle taken down around the 20 yard line gain of three though Kyle Riffle another person that
potentially i mean hindsight's 2020 but could have been a game changing charger today he's been
doing a good job when he's getting in is a gain yeah getting handed off that ball and running with it so
something is better than nothing Kyle's been an integral part of the team today and the the strategy
See, third and 12 for Hillsdale.
Quarterback number 13, attempts a pass to number eight, and it was a little too long.
Number nine from Ashland had his hands on number eight who was intended to receive the catch and was pushing him out of the way.
So that was unfortunately not a successful pass.
That's a lot of pressure on our quarterback, Colin McCurnan.
He's only a sophomore, and it's his first time starting as quarterback for the Chargers.
and so I can imagine, especially with a game like this, that would be a lot of pressure.
I would not want to be in his shoes today.
Me neither.
That is, that's the statement of the day.
We are fourth down, 12 yards to go, 13 minutes and 17 seconds left in the quarter.
Number 90.
Yep.
Ian Woodward, the punt.
Made it to the, around the 30-yard line.
So that's where we'll pick up with Ashland in possession of the ball on defense.
score is still six hillsdale 14 Ashland
losing that
point earlier in the game that
that would have made it 7 to 14
that could be a defining moment in the game for the Chargers
yeah that's true if they're not able to do a two point conversion
or anything like that to make up that second point
or make up that point they lost that could be
yep that could be the nail in the coffin for them
whether or not they win today's game so
we'll have to keep watching that and see if they're able
to make up that lost point or
what they're able to do.
First and 10 for the Eagles at the, what was that around the 24th yard line?
Oh, almost completed, but an incomplete pass intended for number four.
It looks like number four stopped in.
We've had that a couple times today.
Yeah, it's the same number. It gets a little confusing.
Both, yeah, both schools will have earlier it was zero zero.
We had 10, 10, too, when, number 10, A.m.
I'll watch earlier with that that play.
Second down and 10 yards to go for the Ashland Eagles.
Yeah, I mean, I really, neither team can afford to give an inch.
To make any mistakes or not be on their A game right now.
There might have been a slight gain in that play.
About four yards.
Four yards.
So it'll be three and six.
12 minutes and 41 seconds left in this third quarter.
As we've said before, third down, not a situation you want to be in.
So the Ashton Eagles are at third down, and that would be a divisive moment in this segment of them having possession of the ball.
Number 14.
Oh.
Attempted pass to Ashland's number 85 by their quarterback number 14.
The pass was incomplete.
A charger was right there on his tail.
Intended for number 85.
We have the two teams
getting reset up on
the field. Ashland's now a fourth
down. Four and six.
Twelve minutes, nineteen seconds
on the clock. If they can't
break through here, we'll be back to a Hillsdale possession
and we'll see if the charges can score another touchdown.
Try to even
the score.
Oh, and just
Ashland punts the ball.
Punt from Ashland.
Oh, number six is down.
who just punted the ball is now down on the ground rolling around holding it clutching his foot
he looks like he's in quite a great deal of pain we'll have to stay posted on that hillsdale's number one
shay ruddy caught the caught the punt there's a personal foul there for roughing the punter
automatic first down for the eagles after that penalty so they went from fourth down to
lose possession back to first down after the penalty what do you say the personal fouls for being
rough on a punter mm-hmm well so oh he's being helped off the field hope he's okay he appears to be
walking alone nevertheless you never want an injury that's true
talking to him and gave him what appeared to be a fist bump.
So the Eagles are now at first down.
First and 10.
14.
He hands off to is that number 28?
He's running.
He's making quite a great.
Oh, he gets.
He's been,
dang, ran himself out of bounds after multiple chargers attempted the tackle.
33rd, your art line?
Mm-hmm.
That was a good run by Ashton's number 20.
who's consistently been passed off the ball today by the quarterback and tries to break through the center.
Most of the time it has not worked for Ashland, but it just did.
I guess that was the, what, 27th?
Mm-hmm.
What looked like the end for Ashland actually ended up being an opportunity for them to get a touchdown.
Pass intended for number 13, straight at the end zone.
Incomplete.
So no touchdown for Ashland yet, but they're roused.
rapidly approaching the end zone. Second and 10, 11 minutes and 30 seconds left on the clock.
That would have been a great pass if it was completed by the Ashland Eagles. Great attempt by the quarterback to score for the Ohio team.
Number 14 passes off again to 28. Like you said, Camden, every time they try to go right up the middle, it's like, I don't know why they keep doing that.
they haven't really been able to break through that.
So the Chargers just took them down there, number 28?
Mm-hmm.
I mean, I'm no football expert, but I would stop doing that if I was them.
It doesn't seem to work ever.
Especially when they've had so much success throughout the game on the outsides of the field.
Right.
When they're able to either do a long pass to someone on the outside or run one of their guys along the outside,
apparently that must be a weak spot for Hillsdale.
Yeah.
14 passes to 12.
Oh, almost catches in the end.
he caught was that a that was not a touchdown it's not appear to be a touchdown okay so
the out of bounds so that was not a touchdown fourth and eight for the eagles the eagle he um it was
number 12 he had the ball lost it for a second by the time he caught it he was out of bounds
on the end zone so that was why that call was made and it was not a touchdown for the eagles
A little hard to see.
He kind of did a backwards
somersault there.
At first it looked like he didn't even catch it,
but by the time he popped up.
It was there.
It was in his hands.
See, they call a timeout.
You can imagine that was frustrating for the Eagles.
Yes.
Close call for the Chargers, though.
That's a little wake-up call for them.
So we're currently on a time out,
and you're listening to Chargers football
on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute,
where we're saving the English language.
60 seconds at a time. I'm Lauren Smith, and I'm here to tell you that companies are not alive.
You're probably thinking, what? Let me explain. Imagine a fictional corporation called
Chicken Duggets Incorporated, which is not important to the example, but there you go. You have a
comment about their marketing strategy. And things have already gone astray. A brand is an it,
not a they. You have a comment about its marketing strategy. Grammarians like to our
argue about whether they can be used in the singular form to replace he or she. Let's assume for a
minute that it is an appropriate substitute for the somewhat awkward he or she construction. If so,
then like he and she, singular they is an animate pronoun that should only be applied to things
that are alive. As we all know, companies are not alive. That's your grammar minute. Visit thegrammer
minute.com for more tips and tricks. And we are back from that time out. Number four,
14 with Ashland. Oh, pass to number 13.
It looks like those.
It was a complete pass, but was it out of bounds?
The reps are checking it out.
If it wasn't, that will put the Ashland Eagles one yard.
Oh, and they are going to the one yard line.
They're one yard away from the end zone.
That is an unfortunate place to be right now for the Chargers.
And a great place for the Ashland Eagles to be.
That's true.
It's all about perspective.
Wow.
pass. Yeah. Great catch by the Eagles. Great catch. That's as we said that seems to be Ashland's
strong suit those long passes. Is that a touchdown? It's a touchdown. Ashland's number 15 it looks
like just scored the touchdown. So furthering that gap between Hillsdale and Ashland with Ashland
with Ashland leading 20 to 6. We'll have to see here if they can score that extra point. And if they'll go for
the field goal or the two point conversion. Yeah. We got it.
around 10 minutes left in the third quarter.
So it looks like he's getting set up for the kick.
Number 97, AJ Rhodes kicking, I believe.
Maybe number 10 holding for him.
We can't quite see his number.
Just snap the ball, kicked by number 97, and the point is good.
So he scored the field bowl.
So now it is six Hillsdale, 21, Ashland, with 10 minutes,
and 12 seconds left in the game.

Seconds left in this third quarter.
Score is 6 Hillsdale, 21 Ashland.
A.J. Rhodes, number 97, with Hilsdale or with Ashland, is set to kick the ball.
Yeah, it's been a really interesting game so far.
You know, it was seeming pretty evenly matched, but, you know, Ashland's pulling ahead.
And as time goes on, it's going to be harder and harder for the charters to make up that distance.
Let's see.
Catch by Hillsdale's number one.
She ready, running with the ball.
Made it to, looks like the 35-yard line returning the catch.
And just barely steps out of bounds there.
So
38 yard line is where the ball is set.
The two teams are meeting to start the play.
Hillsdale's on offense with the ball.
Number 13, Colin McCurnan passes to Hillsdale's number 87.
Shuffs off in Ashland Eagle and then about two steps further gets tackled, taken down.
So good headway though from the Chargers.
Ty Williams, number 87, was the one with that catch.
First down for the Chargers.
Oh, 13, attempts to hand off to Shee Reddy,
Shee Reddy, number one, our wide receiver, and fumbles the ball.
She appears to have jumped on top of the ball,
so it didn't, it was not grabbed by an national eagle.
However, the play was not carried out the way the Chargers intended.
Nine minutes and eight seconds left in this third quarter.
Second down, 13 yards to go.
Colin McCurnan's running with the ball,
trying to pass to Hills is number 85 as he steps out of bounds,
but the pass was complete.
We'll up to see if the Chargers can pull through here.
It's third down, seven yards to go.
Mm-hmm.
See if they can get seven-yard gain, make it back to first down.
Get him a step closer to scoring a touchdown before the end of this third quarter.
See number 13, quarterback.
Oh, stacked.
Seems like he hesitated just a second too long.
Puts the chargers at fourth down, 13 yards to go.
They haven't had an advanced in a hot second.
so we'll have to see or if these few failed plays here will be just enough to put the
put the ball back in Ashland's possession oh and punt from number 90 Ian Woodyard
number 20 Ashland Eagle catches it he's making his way looks like he's steps out of bounds
it looks like the 25th yard line yes score is still
21 Ashland, 6 Hillsdale, with 7 minutes and 46 seconds left in this third quarter
with Ashland in possession of the ball.
Hoping to score another touchdown to further the gap between the two teams.
But it is not over.
It is never over until it's over.
About a quarter and a half left.
Half of this quarter, full fourth quarter, if the chargers can pull,
together.
They could still come out with a win today.
Hillsdale will play away games for their next two games.
And the next time they will be playing at home will be October 12th.
Nope, actually.
They're playing home for their next two games.
Sorry, those are the Eagles.
No, Hillsdale is because October 12th is homecoming, right?
Yes.
So October 12th, they will be facing.
Walsh for their homecoming game and that's the next home game only three home games left
wow ashland's number four caught the ball made some small gains but was tackled around the 30-yard
line so it's third down for ashland that was a quick quick turnaround I mean they could
obviously break through and get back to first down but they went it was that was quick from first
to third down for the Ashland Eagles.
Yeah.
Quarterback hands off to, it's hard to see the number.
There's a big pile up on the field.
Small gain for the Ashland Eagle.
It appears Hillsdale's Dakoki was an integral part of stopping the Eagles advancement
on that play.
And we have Shay Reddy back around the 35-yard line for the Chargers.
We're talking about him a lot today, but he's been.
a big part of a lot of plays.
Yeah, as the
Ashland Eagles
kick the ball,
let's see, kick the ball,
and see he caught it.
Right at the 28, 29 yard line?
Yep.
We'll see what the Chargers can do today.
Because their last two
games have not been so great,
and they've lost by, you know,
decent significant.
Signatement margin?
Yeah, their first game, they lost 1642,
the second game they lost 621, which is what the score is right now.
Oh.
So.
A lot of time left.
Five minutes and 48 left on the clock for this third quarter.
We have Colin McCurnan running the ball himself.
Oh.
Oh.
He made some significant headway.
Runs out of bounds at the 38.
The Ashland Eagles were pushing in from the side, so he stepped out.
Gane of four.
A gain is a gain.
Two and six for the Chargers.
I don't think Colin has run the ball at all yet today himself.
So that was an interesting choice for him.
He typically seems to pass.
Oh, passes it off to number 30, Kyle Riffle,
and there's a big pile up on the field.
Let's see if it was enough to get them back to first down.
Gain of four yards.
So now we're at three and two.
The Targers just need to run two more yards to get back to that first down position.
They are appearing to take a slow and steady wins the race approach,
just slowly moving a few yards forward.
Rather than Ashland, who typically scores, as we've said,
when they are able to throw the ball.
Break out away from the middle of the ball.
Yeah, and run long distances with the ball.
Slag on the play.
I don't know what that meant.
I guess that means.
False start and football.
It's the same hand sign that means traveling in basketball.
Oh, full start, offense, number 67.
So there was a penalty.
We'll see what the penalty was.
How many yards?
I believe a five-yard penalty.
So we're at, let's see here.
Number 13.
Running again.
Oh, throwing.
Passes.
Oh, meets his intended target number eight for the chargers.
out at around the 39-yard line.
Number eight with the Chargers is Joe Schmidt.
So he caught the ball.
And that was just enough.
Yeah, just enough to bring it to first and ten for the Chargers.
Got four minutes on the clock left in the third quarter here.
Still trailing.
Ashland's leading 21 to Hill's Sales 6.
But, you know, crazy things happened.
Yeah, that was a good play.
seems as we've said i can imagine that number 13 Colin McKearinen is feeling the pressure today i know i would be
yeah first down is being challenged oh first down is being challenged the spot that the runner went out of
bounds is being challenged so i guess we'll see what the refs have to say while they're making
that decision you're listening to chargers football on radio free hillsdale 101.7 fm

Welcome back to today's game. Hillsdale College Chargers versus the Ashland University Eagles.
Just a reminder, I am Camden. And I'm Sarah Catherine.
And we are here calling the game for you today. We are still awaiting the decision on the
challenge per first down. Both teams are standing on the field, just waiting.
to see. The issue was where the Hillsdale Chargers stepped out of bounds with the ball. I believe
was number eight, Joe Schmidt, who received the catch from number 13, Colin McKearinen. So obviously,
this must be close if they're taking this long to decide. Yeah. And this will be a big deal for the
chargers. Talking to Ashland, one standing in the middle with the football. Yes. And the Chargers were previously
at fourth down, correct?
Yes, but then they just
Right, but if this is overturned, then they'll lose possession of the ball.
Right.
So this is a big deal in the course of the game,
only three minutes and 59 seconds left in this quarter.
We'll see.
I feel like most of the times, you know,
more often than not, a challenge decision is not.
That's fair.
Yeah, you know.
Two more refs just walked back on the field.
Yeah, it looks like we've got eight, seven refs on the field right now.
Looks like.
After review.
The ruling overfield stands.
The ruling stands.
Yep.
So Chargers are back to first down, first and ten.
The crowd goes wild.
They seem to be pretty happy.
They do.
Seems like there's, yeah, there's somewhat of a student section here.
It looks like a few people came back.
And their second timeout.
I was.
So Ashland is now out of challenges for their game.
That was their second time out.
So hopefully they don't find anything else that they would want to challenge because they can't.
Chargers are at first and 10.
Got little under four minutes left on the clock in the third quarter here.
Ashland's still up 21, the Hillsdale's 6.
Colin McKearinen sacked by it looks like number 99 from Ashland.
I'll be curious to see how Colin does if he continues to start next.
game you know it's like I feel like you'd probably have to have at least a game where you're just
getting your feet wet and it's kind of there's no way other than to jump in the deep end so he's really
I think he's you know doing a yeah he's doing it he's doing a great job he's doing a lot better than I would
that's for sure me too and yeah we'll have to you know charge a nation can't keep you updated on
cool canter pass number 87 complete but he was tackled so
Definitely gain some yards there.
It's now 3 and 6 with 3 minutes and 5 seconds left in the third quarter.
The clock is still running.
Turgers are getting set up.
It looks like the 43rd yard line.
We will see what the 2nd 6th at the 43 yard line snaps to Colin.
Colin passes who is that too.
Number 23 hits his intended target.
Number 23 caught the ball.
That was a first down for the Chargers after that passed.
They are now right at the 50-yard line.
So halfway across the field, a lot of ground to cover still, but it's first down.
And there's two minutes left, two minutes and 15 seconds, actually.
So a lot can happen still.
Oh, Colin passes off.
It looks like to number 21 on the Chargers.
Zach Tetler makes a small game.
and it's now two and four one minute and 50 seconds left you know they've said that hillsdale is a back half of the game kind of team but they might have to be a fourth quarter kind of team today hands off to 21 goes straight up the middle it's taken down a little before the 40 yard line at third and one hillsdale so one yard to go for the charger
to get back to that first down.
An update on some out-of-town scores.
Finley and Lake Erie, 35 to 6.
They're in the fourth quarter, so that game is almost over.
We have Walsh v. Kentucky Wesleyan, 30 to 3,
and they are at halftime.
56 seconds left in this quarter for the Chargers and Eagles.
First down Chargers.
They're back.
Falls on the 40-yard line.
First and 10, let's see what the Chargers can make happen in these last 40 seconds.
37 seconds now.
Throws down the middle.
Hits number 23.
It's a touchdown for the Chargers.
Wow.
Played by the Chargers.
You see who that was Kim then?
It was past number 23.
Connor Pratt.
Connor Pratt.
Connor Pratt, who received the touchdown there.
I'm sure that might, you know, that might change things around for the Chargers.
As we said, they're a second half kind of team.
Connor Pratt, number 23, is one of the team captains for Hillsdale.
Big moment for him.
Number 44 is getting set up to kick.
Number 10's holding for him.
We'll see if, what they can do here.
It looks like.
Kick is good for the extra point.
Bringing the score to 13.
Nationalist still leading 2113.

Welcome back to the Hillsdale College Charger football game.
They are taking on the Ashland Eagles here at home.
Hillsdale just scored their second touchdown of the game.
Got 26 seconds left in this third quarter.
In the third quarter.
I was surprised that they didn't go for the game.
that two-point conversion. I know. When they're down. Yeah. One point. Yeah, that's what I was saying
before we went to commercial is, as you were saying earlier, that first point they missed out on with
their first touchdown might be the cause of some regret later on in the game. Yeah. But we'll see.
I mean, if they scored another touchdown, there'd be an opportunity to go for the two-point conversion.
Lots of opportunities. The Eagles takes the snap. Number 28's taken down at the,
just before the 25 yard line.
I don't know.
We'll see if that touchdown was enough to get the Chargers re-energized
to turn it around in the fourth quarter.
Three seconds left in this quarter.
And that's the quarter.
We've got Ashland's still up, 21 to Hillsdale's 13.
I've just finished up the third quarter.

Welcome back to Hillsdale Charger Football.
We're here at Muddywater Stadium,
where the Chargers are taking on the Ashland University Eagles.
We just began our fourth quarter.
Ashland is currently in the lead.
21 to Hillsdale College is 13.
Ashland's number zero ran quite far with the ball, putting them in a good spot to try to score another touchdown.
It appears to be second and ten.
Oh, first and ten.
That most recent past brought them back to first down.
So Ashland's making a serious play after that.
Hillsville touchdown in the last quarter some more updates on some out-of-town games
Ohio Dominican versus Thomas Moore Thomas Moore is winning three to zero and they are in the
third quarter so that's a pretty low-scoring game no touchdowns yet
Chargers stopped the Eagles around the 42nd yard line I believe that was number 97
Tim. That's Hunter Spurling. That's Hunter Spurling.
Hunter. The guy who, yeah, got the big stick award and the every player every play award last week.
So, you know. He's back making some, making some plays in this game.
Yeah, we can see why he got those awards.
Snaps the ball. Hands off to number 28 on the Eagles.
Let's see. Makes it around the Chargers taken down at the 47-yard line.
The Chargers almost formed like a wall with their bodies there trying to stop.
trying to stop the eagle.
And he just completely spun out, went around.
Yeah, he evaded it.
Still third down, though.
Third and three.
About 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
We'll have to see what the Austin Eagles can do.
Let's see.
The Eagles, possession of the ball,
snap the ball to number 14, passes it to number 13.
See, that's an incomplete pass.
Fumbled the ball.
Had it into the ball.
hand and then on the tackle
flew out of his arms.
That can't be a good feeling.
No.
Cannot.
I win the tie with by Jack Tratchett.
Yeah.
I've heard his name a couple times this game.
Seems to be doing a pretty good job.
It is now four and three for the Ashland Eagles
after that failed pass.
Let's see.
Maybe they're getting in their heads a little bit.
I don't know.
The Chargers are.
coming up from behind with that extra touchdown.
Number two, punts the ball.
Oh.
No chargers were back there to receive it.
Just in between the
5 and 10 yard line, maybe around 6 or 7.
So that is where we will pick up
with the chargers in possession of the ball.
12 minutes and 46 seconds left in the game.
Score is still, 21 Ashland,
13 Hillsdale.
And we're just rounded out that fourth quarter.
order. Like we said, neither the Eagles nor the Chargers have won a game yet this season. So I can
imagine they both want it pretty badly. I think it's definitely achievable for both of them.
One of the Chargers tried to, Zach Tetler was handed the ball from quarterback Colin McKearinen
and tried to break through the middle but was stopped by the Eagles defense.
They were unable to make much headway with that play.
So it's now second down with 10 yards to go for the Chargers.
Colmikiernan passes to number 85.
It takes almost three guys to get him down,
but there's a little pile up there on the 10-yard line,
around 12-yard line, 12-yard line.
Complete pass.
Complete pass.
It's number 85.
Number 85's been doing a lot today as well.
He's had quite a few passes, I believe.
Andrew, number 85, Andrew, he was one of our players in the week last week,
from remembering correctly.
Oh, good for him.
So him and Hunter making some plays in this game as well.
We're at third and six, the Chargers,
just waiting to see what they might do in these next 11 minutes and 30 seconds.
Snaps the ball to number 13.
Colin McCurnan.
Colin's running.
He passes to 85.
85.
Out of bounds.
But the
was a completed pass
out of bounds.
That same Andrew.
What was his last name?
Connie X-Ne.
Yeah.
I'm not going to ask.
So we're now at first
in 10 for the Chargers.
Still in possession of the ball.
We are at the 20-yard line.
In 10 minutes.
and 52 seconds left in this fourth quarter.
Let's see hands off to who was that I can't see his number.
Was that to 21?
Is that clear?
No.
Yep, it was.
Carrier down around the 15 yard line.
It's been a good game Camden.
It has been a good game.
Looks like we're now at second in 10.
So that's good for the Chargers.
Mm-hmm.
As we've said, beautiful day here in Hillsville, Michigan.
Not a cloud in the sky.
Just a little warm.
It's a little warm.
Let's see here.
We have number 13, Colin McKearinen, passing the ball to number 17.
Barely catches it with Ashton's number one, trying to slide in front and block it, but he misses.
So completed pass by the Chargers.
At first, it looks like he intercepted it, but, no, that was a good play from the Chargers.
It looks like we're sitting at the 29-yard line.
and it's third down with one yard to go.
So the charges just barely have to inch forward to get back to first down.
Time is nine minutes and 37 seconds.
See, hands on to, is that number 30, Kyle Riffle, down at the 29-yard line, I don't know.
We'll see.
First down for the chargers.
They're now on the 31st yard line.
A gain is a gain.
A gain is a gain.
I know, as we've been saying, the charge.
Chargers make some slow advancements when they're a win is a win moving across the field.
So right now is no exception to that trend for the Chargers in today's game.
On the 31st, we have Colin fakes out.
It pretends to hand it to number 20.
Long pass to number 16.
Incomplete.
Ashland's number nine tried to block the pass, but I believe the reason for failure was just number
what is that 1916 was unable to
unable to catch it
David Dorn was the intended
charge. David Dorn was the intended
receiver of that
pass
second and 10 for the chargers
little under nine minutes left on the clock
let's see what
Colin is going to do
looks like oh he handed off to number 30
Kyle Riffle
however he looks like he made a small gain
Looks like it was a gain of two yards.
So now it's 3 and 8 on the 33rd yard line.
A gain is a gain.
A gain is a gain.
So now the teams are resetting on the 33rd yard line.
Eight minutes and 20 seconds left in this game.
Score is still.
21 Ashland, 13 Hillsdale with Hillsdale in possession of the ball.
Oh, number 13.
Almost lost it there.
It almost baffles a snap.
Throws the 23 and complete pass.
Pass was a little short there.
Just a little short.
Probably a little flustered after.
Yeah.
The ball almost like, it like popped out of his hands.
I wonder what happened on that snap.
The target was Connor Pratt, who I believe made our most recent touchdown.
Yes.
One of our team captains, right?
Yes.
So now, it looks like we're still in the 33rd yard line for fourth down, eight yards to go.
Mm-hmm.
Looks like are we going to go for?
The punt to Woodyard, punt in the ball.
Over to the right of the field.
Oh, out of bounds.
The punt was out of bounds.
Not much time left in the game.
Only eight minutes.
Only eight minutes.
In one second.
Every second counts.
True.
Every second, every yard.
Today's game has been a great example of that.
Every yard makes a difference.
Every moment makes a difference.
and both teams.
Both teams approve that.
We're set up on the 30-yard line.
It is first in 10 for Ashland.
We have...
Oh, number 15.
Running right up the middle,
taken down at the 35-yard line.
Same playbook for Ashland there.
They keep going up the middle.
I know, and it's...
I mean, Hillso rarely lets them through.
So...
Let's see, was that a five-yard game?
Jack Tratchett was able to stop that.
I tried it with the chargers.
Second and five for the Eagles.
Seven minutes and 30 seconds on the clock.
Eagles quarterback passes to number 15 again.
Looks like he takes it to the 45.
That's pretty good.
It's made some gains there.
It looks at about 10 yards.
So it's first and 10 for the Ashland Eagles.
Almost halfway down the field.
they definitely make larger moves than the Chargers do.
They do.
At least in these little moments of the game.
It'll be interesting to see if that pays off for them in the end
and if they're able to clench the victory.
Tens off to number 15 who's running the ball.
Moved out of bounds at 42nd yard line, 42-yard line.
Pushed out by, I believe, number 41 with the Chargers.
Pushed out of bounds.
by a charger.
Number 41, Jacob Vance.
So yeah, as Sir Catherine said, we're now at the 42 yard line.
It's second down, 13 yards to go.
Six minutes and 28 seconds left in this quarter.
The final quarter of the game.
Time seems to really be flying by now compared to the first quarter.
Let's see.
Number 14.
Oh, interception by a charger.
reception by number 25 on the Chargers.
He's moving down the field and he's finally stopped at the 15-yard line.
Great play by the Chargers.
That's number 25, Vince Fransicone.
That's great.
I don't know.
We got a lot of energy over here on the home side.
Yeah.
Wow.
Person 10 for the Chargers.
26-yard line.
Exciting, exciting moment for the Chargers.
I wonder how the Eagles are feeling now.
Do you think they're nervous?
Probably.
Even if the Chargers score, though,
without that two-point conversion,
the Eagles will still be in the lead
and with only six minutes and eight seconds left in the game,
it's hard to tell what will happen.
Only time will tell.
Let's see here.
we have some switch it looks like kyle riffle was just taken off the field swapped out for this next play
as we've said kyle's been an integral part of the game today the strategy of the chargers absolutely
we're set on the 15 yard line second down nine yards to go number 13 throws to 21 he takes it and gets a
touchdown that's 21 yeah that uh let's see
That brings us to 19 for the Chargers.
As we said before, the Hillsdale College Chargers are a second half team.
They really are, and today is great proof of that.
The score is now 21 Ashland, 19 Hillsdale.
Let's see now if the charges go for the field goal, if they go for that two-point conversion.
I know. I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what they're going to do.
I know. I have never cared more about a football game.
I know.
Oh, it's hard to do.
What are they doing?
It's hard to tell.
This could be a, oh,
Chargers just called the timeout.
I'm not surprised, given how tight the score is.
Well, with Hillsdale's timeout,

The Charger football game versus the Ashland Eagles here at Frank Moneywater Stadium.
We are about to see if the chargers are going to go for that two-point conversion after their
recent touchdown or if they're going to go for the field goal.
Scores 21, Ashland to 19 Hillsdale.
They're going for that two-point conversion.
We'll see if it's successful.
Shee Reddy.
Our game-changing charger.
Complete the pass on the two-point conversion.
Tying the score, 21-21.
Eagles to the charges now.
He is the game-changing charger.
He just changed the game.
Just changed the game.
The score is now tied.
Yeah.
Between Ashland and Hillsdale, all because of Shea-Ruddy, our game.
changing charger. Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow. Defining moment. We don't want to get ahead of ourselves
here, though. You're right. You're right. We've got five and a half minutes left. Something's going to
happen. What it is, we don't know. But it truly is anyone's game. Yeah, I mean, the Chargers
got the energy. They've got, they've got nothing to lose. Except the game. Exactly.
So yeah, we'll have to see, we'll have to see what the Chargers decide to do and how the Ashland Eagles
decide to respond.
Yeah, I bet they're sweating right now.
Plus it's a hot day.
Yeah.
So definitely they are.
Wow.
Let's see here.
So number 46 is about to,
looks like punt the ball for the chargers.
Kick off.
See the Eagles catches at number 25.
At the 10-yard line.
And it's only five minutes and 29 seconds left in the game.
My prediction would be both teams get one more chance to touch the ball with five and a half minutes left.
Yeah.
And right now, Ashland's an interesting spot because they have the ball right now, only five and a half minutes left.
If they don't score and Hillsdale ends up with the ball, I'm wondering if Hillsdale could just run the clock.
Yeah, I know. I guess. We'll have to see.
I don't want to make too many rash predictions, but, oh, number four.
Takes down number four on the Eagles at the 27, 28 yard line.
Yes.
This is just energy is so high.
The stakes are high.
I know.
I'm sitting right on the edge of my seat.
And I can't believe another same number, same number play.
Number four caught the ball.
Number four in Hillsdale took him down.
Yeah.
A lot of coincidences today.
with that. Let's see. 14 hands off to zero.
Taken down at the 30-yard line by number 41 on the Chargers.
That is Jacob Vance. Another name we've heard quite a few times today.
It is now third down.
Yep.
The crowd is electric here, especially after that recent touchdown and two-point conversion from the Chargers.
You can feel the energy.
Okay, so we have number 14.
Oh, he's up the middle.
He's running with it.
Oh, no.
Can he stop him?
Number four takes him down at the 30-yard line.
Hillsdale's number five right behind.
So number four and five took down Ashland's.
Ashland's receiver on that play.
That was a massive gain in yards for the Eagles.
puts them on the right side of the field to score a touchdown.
At some point in the game, we lost our Hillsdale College cheerleaders.
Yeah, I think that was after halftime.
I wonder where they went.
They're missing a high-stakes game.
I know we're needing that energy right now.
That being said, there's no lack of energy from the crowd.
Right, but you can never be too safe when you're tied this late in the game.
Good point. Good point.
Looks like the Ashton Eagles didn't make much of a gain on that play.
They're second and eight.
Three minutes left on the clock.
On the 27th yard line.
If they can score here, that'll really put the chargers under a lot of pressure.
Oh, fakes out, handoff.
Number 14, passes, number 21.
Oh, and he steps out of bounds.
Was that complete? I think that was complete.
Yes, I believe it was.
Yeah.
It was complete.
Number 21, Drew Johnson from the Ashland Eagles caught that ball.
Once again, those long throws for the Ashton Eagles really get them some good gains.
So it seems to be the strongest part of their game and of their strategy,
at least today at the Frank Moneywater Stadium versus the Chargers.
First and 10 for the Ashland Eagles.
14, hands off to 28.
He runs up the middle.
Number 21 takes him down.
Is that Zach Tetler?
It is Zach Tetler.
Just kidding.
It was rock bound by number 41.
Jacob Vance.
Can't see from that far away.
We knew there was a one at the end of it.
So, and they've both been doing a lot of this game.
That's true.
Two minute timeout for the Chargers.

I'm Lauren Smith, and I have a potentially upsetting opinion.
Mechanical pencils are just better.
Some of you are assuming the buzzer went off because my opinion is wrong.
First of all, it's just an opinion, so it can't really be wrong.
Second, there was a grammar mistake in that sentence.
Mechanical pencils are just better.
Then what?
Snails, pomegranates, pens, markers?
This is called an incomplete comparison.
Terms like better, worse, smaller, and so on.
are comparative adjectives.
When you use these,
you should always specify
both of the things you're comparing.
As with everything,
there are exceptions.
If you're writing informally,
and it's obvious
what you're comparing
based on context,
you can sometimes get away
without specifying the second object.
Mechanical pencils are just better.
Could be a clippy response
to a friend who has just made
the opposite assertion.

Welcome back to
the end of the game here.
We're here at Frank Muddywater Stadium
where the Hillsdale College Chargers are
taking on the Ashland Eagles at home.
We just have a timeout.
Ashland is in possession of the ball.
Second seven.
Let's see what happened there.
Handed off to number 28, and it looks like
down at the 15-yard line.
Brought down by
second charge, time out of the half.
It looks like there is, they called another time.
Hillsdale called the time out this time, which makes sense.
There's a minute 54 left.
The game is tied.
Ashland is at the 11-yard line.
It's 3 and 10.
Crazy moment in the game.
So we're tied to 21.
We've got the home stretch of the game left.
It could be anybody's game at this point.
As we've said, both Hillsdale and Ashland have yet.
to win a game this season.
So I'm sure they're both eager to get their first win,
as well as we have a pretty deep history with Ashland of going back and forth.
We have actually a traveling trophy that gets handed off,
defending on who has most recently won a game.
So, yeah, eager to see how that pans out today.
I'm sure we've got it's third down.
Third down for the Eagles, third in 10.
This is a high stress moment for the Eagles and the Chargers.
Snaps to number 14, who throws.
Oh, incomplete pass.
Number 14.
His intended target was number four.
I can't see.
Let's see.
What number is that?
It's like they miss his intended target number four, I believe.
Oh, 44.
Oh, 44.
There's a lot of numbers out there all moving around.
So they're going for the field goal.
Number six holding for number 97.
The crowd's going wild.
Oh, the cheerleaders are over here.
They actually are here.
Ashland scored, I believe.
Oh, perfect kick from Ashland.
So they scored three points there.
Ashland's now at 24 to Hillsdale College is 21.
I'm sure that's a disheartening feeling for the Chargers,
especially so late in the game.
But who knows?
They have a minute and 46 seconds to come back.
They could score a touchdown.
They could score their own field goal.
There's a lot of things they could do at this point in the game.
They just have to make sure that Ashland doesn't intercept any of their passes.
She's going to throw and catch.
Mm-hmm.

stadium where the Hillsdale College Chargers are taking on the Ashland Eagles.
The Ashland Eagles just scored three points, bringing their score to 24 to Hillsdale College is 21.
We've got a minute and 46 left on the clock.
The Eagles are setting up to kick.
And out of bounds, I believe.
Yes.
Number one, Shoe Reddy was there to catch the ball, but he didn't need to because it was out of
bounds.
Went out of bounds.
So now we have the Chargers setting up, obviously, at first and 10.
They're at the 25-yard line.
Possession of the ball.
A minute and 46 seconds left on the clock.
This is a nail-biter.
Mm-hmm.
We'll have to see what Hillsdale starting quarterback, Colin McKearinen,
is going to do with this last minute in 46 seconds.
As we said, this is his first game ever starting.
He's a sophomore, and he's throwing it to...
Number 10.
Number 10.
Taking out of bounds at the 38 yard line, 33rd yard line.
Second and two for the Chargers.
Eight yards for the Chargers there.
So now we are second down, two yards to go.
C quarterback steps back.
Looks like he's running the ball.
He passes to number one.
Shee running.
Pass.
Steps out of bounds.
It looks like just after completing the pass, but I guess we'll see.
Out of bounds.
Out of bounds.
So back to the 33rd yard line.
It is third down, two yards to go.
Good idea from number 13, Paul and McHiernan.
Yeah, other than the out of bounds part, it was a great pass.
Shea Ruddy had the catch.
Phenomenal catch, but like you said, minus the out of balance part.
Let's see.
Chargers have played a great game.
It's been tough.
It hasn't really been a moment where they can slip up.
Throws to 85.
Was that completed?
It was complete.
To number 85.
Andrew Connie Exney.
Another person that's, another player that's been.
Yeah, what award did he win last week?
That is such a good question.
One of them, for sure.
He did.
13 passes to 10 who is just taken down just shy the 50 yard line.
Looks like maybe 47, 46 yard line.
One minute and five seconds left in this game.
He steps back, passes to number 85.
Andrew Connie Exney, and he was the offensive player of the week last week.
Gotcha.
Makes sense.
He's doing all.
it again this week. Less than a minute left on the clock, 56 seconds. Oh, what's the rough saying now?
We've got less than a minute left in the game. Let's see what's going on over here.
Set in the ball.
Looks like Herzl is going to set up to kick, are they? No. Second in ten. So I don't know about that.
there's 54 seconds left that is that's true i just don't know who would catch it for them
so we've called macaritan throwing oh incomplete pass to number 87 is that corner
no 87 is tie williams oh looks like somebody is official time out for an injured player
official time out for an injured player is that number 87 tie williams at stone
I believe it is.
In the ground.
He's trying to get up.

Welcome to the old ball game, where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime.
I'm Tate Christensen.
Today we talk about the man, the myth, the legend himself, shoeless Joe Jackson.
Jackson was born in 1887 and spent the majority of his life in South Carolina.
In 1908, Jackson began his professional career with the Greenville's
spinners. Eventually, he signed with Connie Mack to play for the Philadelphia Athletics.
In 1911, he began his first full MLB season, hitting a whopping 408 batting average, a record
that still stands today. Shulis Jackson's famous nickname comes not from his time in the MLB,
but from a mill game he played in South Carolina. Jackson reportedly had blisters on his feet
due to a new pair of cleats. So he took his shoes off, playing ball in his socks. As the game
continued, a fan, who was heckling the players, noticed that Jackson was running to third base in his
Sox, the fan shouted, you shulist, son of a gun, you? The name stuck, and he was called
Shoeless Joe Jackson for the rest of his life. This has been the old ballgame on Radio Free Hillsdale
101.1.7 FM. We are back in Muddy Waters Stadium, here where the Hillsdale College Chargers
are taking on the Ashland Eagles. The Eagles are up 24 to 21. There's just 46 seconds left in
the fourth quarter of this game. It's been a close game for sure, and you can definitely feel
everybody's energy in these last final moments to see what the Chargers might be able to pull off.
Number 13, or quarterback, looks like the Chargers are running the ball. He passes.
Misses his intended target at number 85.
Incomplete, pass. And it was 4 in 10, so
looks like the Chargers are back on defense with 39 seconds left in the game.
Wow. Update on the injured player, Ty Williams. He walked off the field while we were on
break. So he was all right.
It's really been a great game.
It really has. I think the charges have
really laid it all out
on the field.
Just 32 seconds left
in this fourth quarter.
The Ashland Eagles are still leading
24 to Hillsdale colleges.
21.
So.
The Eagles appear to be talking to the refs.
That clock is still running, though. It seems
like they're just probably trying to run down the clock.
Interesting.
Interesting move.
Well, six seconds left, five.
It looks like things might be set in stone as the game just ended here with the Ashland Eagles,
winning 24 to 21.
Another loss for the Chargers, making it their third loss in a row.
They've yet to win a game this season.
But there's always next week when they take on, let's see who they'll be playing next week.
They will be playing at Finley at 2 p.m. Eastern Time on September 28.
Great game.
It was a great game.
Yeah.
They really, it was so tight there in the end, and they both worked super hard.
Proud of both teams.
Final score, 24, Ashland, 21.
Hillsdale. Thanks so much for joining in today. We've enjoyed talking through this game for you.
