Welcome to Frank Muddywater Stadium.
We apologize for the technical difficulties.
Kentucky Westian started with the ball.
They tried it out on the field.
There's a three and out.
And so now the Chargers, led by Colin McKearnan and company,
are going to come out here and try to get points on the board,
their first possession.
But it looks like Coach Schreffler is going to punt this one away.
It was a fourth down in one.
Ball at the Panther 39.
So less than a yard.
Coach Schreffler decides to pun it away.
Ian Woodyard standing at his own 47.
Whistles on the field, timeout called by Kentucky Wesleyan.
There's 1221 left in the first quarter.
I must say the atmosphere today is unbelievable.
The weather, oh man, it feels like 80, 85.
Are we in Florida right now?
sweating up here.
This feels like August football.
This feels like a scrimmage during the last two weeks of camp or something,
but it's Hillsdale's homecoming,
so a lot of alumni showing out to support the Chargers today.
A really cool atmosphere before the game.
Across the way, we're looking at the student section,
which is the largest I've probably ever seen.
This is my first homecoming game I've called.
Hillsdale does not want to replicate what they did last year on the homecoming game.
So we'll see if the Chargers can get a victory.
this year and then following the game it's the it's the famous Hillsdale College
mock rock the mock rock the Super Bowl of Dr. Arms little college up here in the middle
in nowhere Michigan yeah the betting favorites are Simpson we'll see what happens so fourth down
at one coach Dreffler is going to decide to go for McCurton under center he's going to
power forward first down chargers he gets crossed to the third
37 yard line. That's going to be a fresh set of downs. First down in 10. Ball at the Panther
37 yard line. Chargers trying to add some points on this board and break this zero to zero
opening tie 1154 left in the first quarter. McCurnet in the gun,
gueshoe to his right, two receivers in the game, both to the far side in Ruddy and Carrico.
Kernan rolling right looking looking throws he's got Carrico down the middle
incomplete carrico with a little post route in between the cover two set up from the
Kentucky Wesleyan secondary and the throw was just a little low and a little too far outside there
little bit in front of him but he had green before him so that would have been that would
have been six but brings up second and ten so now second down in 10 ball still at the
Panther 37. Chargers with it. McCurnan in the gun, Gishu to his right, three receivers in the game.
Ruddy to the near side here one-on-one. It looks like it's man-to-man coverage.
Ruddy motions across the field. It's a fake. Power left with McCurnan. He gets down to the 33-yard line,
takes a big hit. My goodness. A little jet sweep eye candy there. McCurnin fakes the jet sweep,
runs back left and gets a couple. It's going to set up third down. Third down and medium.
Hillsdale bringing in the jumbo package.
It looks like they got two tight hens out there.
Connor Pratt checks into the game.
Skura checks out.
Chargers kind of slowing down the tempo a bit.
It's third and six.
11.06 left first quarter.
McCurton and the gun.
Balls at the Panther 33.
Gishu to his right.
Motion from Kineski.
He motions back to the right.
McCurnet back to pass.
Standing at his own 40.
He throws.
Caught by Pratt.
First down, hit down at the 24-yard line.
There's a flag on the field.
It looks like the near side judge here is saying off sides on Kentucky Wesleyan.
They're going to defer it.
We'll see what the verdict is.
A lot of substitutions going on in the game so far.
Ruddy checks out.
Defense.
Opinions to train.
So Metzker checks into the game.
First down for the Chargers.
Nice.
First down.
there nice pitching catch from mccurnon to pratt connection so first down in 10 ball to panther 24
mccurin the gun gishu to his left two receivers to the near side give to gishu running right he's got
ahead of steam and gets to the 22 yard line had an opening there in the first initial three yards got
hit by the linebacker core of that panther defense it's going to set up second down and long my goodness
a lot of substitutions coming in and out here early yeah he'll still definitely trying to switch up
Pace, keep Kentucky Wesleyan defense guessing in this first possession here.
Chargers trying to get some points on the board.
Ignite some of this momentum in the building right now.
This energy from the student section and the alums.
McCurton in the gun, Gishu to his left.
Second down in eight, ball to Panther 22.
Motion from Kineski.
McCurnan, back to pass.
Throws Kineski into the flaties to the 20 and gets down to the 15-yard line.
A nice screen route.
Just dump it over the defensive end's head and it goes for about seven for
Colin Davis.
My favorite
position in football is the
tight end.
Pretty versatile.
When they get rumbling out in the flat.
They're difficult to stop. Great job there from
Andrew Kineski to sophomore.
He's really had a standout year so far.
So McCurton, under center for this third down
and one. Ball to Panther 15.
They're inside the red zone. Gishu in the backfield.
Motion from Kineski.
It's a give to Gishu up the middle
and he gets hit in the backfield.
leans forward for the first down
but I don't think he's going to get it.
Stop short at the 15.
It's going to set up a fourth down
and half a foot.
Great job there by that
blitzing secondary
Kentucky Wesleyan
Panther.
And now Coach Dreffler has a decision to make.
Bring on Jude Barton onto the field
and get some points on the board
from the fresh kicker or go for it.
It looks like...
I think he's going to give the alums a show.
They're going for him.
for the second time on this drive.
So here we go.
McCurnan under center, eye formation,
Gishu in the backfield,
fourth down at one,
ball at the Panther 15,
give to Gishu up the middle.
He's got it.
Touchdown, Chargers.
On homecoming weekend.
Still,
6.
Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
But that was...
Might have been the biggest toll
we've seen for Gishu all year.
Great job from the offensive line
to open it up for the...
freshman Freenom, excuse me.
So now Jude Barton.
First start last week to kick the extra point.
And it's an interesting formation here.
It looks like it's a fake.
So Scurroo's in shotgun with two linemen in front of him.
He's standing at his own 10.
Now Barton's going to motion across the field from left to right.
Scurl's going to throw it.
And it's a touchdown.
Colin Davis.
With the two point.
The two point.
conversion
little backyard football action
on a fake field goal
oh my goodness
that was amazing
man that was fun to watch
was he the long snapper on that player
I think he might have been
there's no way he could have some trickery
here at Frank Moneywater
Stadium Hillsdale
8 Kentucky Wesley and nothing
you were not kidding about
Coach Dreffler trying to put on a show
for this all the alums
in the building today for Homecoming.
Was Scura a quarterback in high school?
It looked like he might have had some
some QB blood in his veins.
It was a nice little jump pass there.
A little jump pass from Scura
to Colin Davis.
Wow.
Big trickery here this afternoon.
Razzle dazzle. It's not even
halfway through the first quarter.
So now Jordan Westridge
for the Chargers.
It's going to kick this one away.
844 left first quarter hillsdale eight kentucky wesley and nothing
demora brown standing at his own five to receive this one
for the panthers westridge division one transfer from northern arizona university
transferred in it in january it's kind of bolster this special team's room for the
Chargers. We'll see if you can get a touchback here. Approaches the ball, high kick. It's going to get
near the end zone and touchback lands right on the S of Hillsdale at the northern end of the field.
So on Trots, the Kentucky Wesleyan offense for their second possession of the game led by Harrison
Birch, 6 foot 185 pound. Redshirt freshman. Wow, redshirt freshman from Russellville, Alabama.
See if he can respond to really a great drive from the charger offense, converted on two fourth downs and a little mercury on the extra point.
Birch standing at his own 20.
He's in shotgun.
McCray to his right to give him McCray up the middle and he gets to the 27, pushed forward to the 2930.
Wow, great job there from the offensive line.
of the Panthers.
They do have some experience up on the O-line, the Panthers do.
Three returning starters, and they have their senior captain, Tarent, Young.
So they're going to lean upon Young to kind of bolster that O-line to try to protect Harrison Birch.
Second down in five.
Ball at the Panther 30.
Birch in the gun.
McCray to his right.
Three receivers in the game to the near side, one to the far.
Give him McCray.
He's to the 30.
Fights his way to the 34-yard line.
He's going to be short of the first down marker by a yard.
Third down and one coming up.
Vance with the tackle.
The standout linebacker, kind of that quarterback of the defense here,
going to try to rally these guys and get a stop.
Put more pressure.
pressure on that Panther defense. Here we go.
Birch, in the gun. McCrae's who is right.
Ball at the Panther 34.
It's a fake to McCrane. He's locked in the backfield at the 28-yard line.
Drake Badger with the sack.
Birch had no chance.
Boy, oh boy.
Free runner right into the backfield.
Absolutely.
Just,
Birch had no time.
He went to hand the ball off.
By the time he was ready to go through his possessions,
he was staring at the dirt.
And that's going to make it a fourth and six,
a five-yard sack,
and now we got an interesting formation here for Kentucky Wesleyan.
Oh.
A shotgun formation with an O lineman
now reverts into the normal formation for punting.
So the punt is low, nearly blocked.
It's going to bounce at the Hillsdale 40.
Roll down, take a Hillsdale Panther bounce.
Picked up by Shayroddy.
He's to the 50 along the sidelines.
Scampers out at the 40-yard line.
Flag on the field, though.
A bit of a dangerous recovery there, but he turned it into a nice return.
So we have an injured panther standing at the charger 29.
He's going to walk off the field under his own power.
But now the flag, in these situations, you've got a charger running down the far.
side line it's got to be a block in the back or something we'll see what the verdict is
it's going to be holding on the charge of the
front of the
it's going to be holding
on the chargers
got to take away from that
30 35 yard
punt return from ruddy
I just want to go back real quick to that last defensive play an excellent
by Drake Badger. That's one of those things that really shot the chargers in the foot last week,
two weeks ago, the third downs. They couldn't get off the field. They did this week.
So here we go. First down in 10, McCurnet and the gun. Gishu 2's right, three receivers in the game,
one of the far side to the near side. Motion from Kineski, 631 left in the first quarter. Give to Gishu running left.
He's to the 40. Makes a move. Shimmies up to the 48-yard line. Great job from him while the
freshman's been playing well through four games.
That's going to set up a second down and two ball at the charger, 47.
Hillsdale, 8, Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
Again, I keep saying it, a lot of substitutions in that receiver core for the
Chargers, a really deep position group.
Now we have Ruddy and Pratt, both split out to either ends.
One-on-one, it looks like Kentucky Wesleyan's playing man.
McCurn in under center, motion from Ruddy.
It's an end-round to Ruddy.
He's to the 45 and gets hit down to the 46-yard line.
Lost a couple on the end of round, trying to attack Kentucky Wesleyan's defensive ends and contains,
but well done from Nolan Forsha there, 6-2-20-pound Jr.
Kind of that middle linebacker for Kentucky.
Not tricked on that play.
So now third down in three, ball at the charger 46, 521 left first quarter and counting.
McCurnin and the gun, Gishu to his left.
and to give the guiche you running right he's to the 45 and hit down at the 46 yard line so kentucky
Wesleyan is going to force another fourth down fourth and about four and the chargers
and now do you go for it in your own territory at vault your own 46 and no coach shreffler says
he thought about it not on the third fourth down i think we're going to punt this one away so ian
woodgird comes out to punt it for the chargers standing at his own
32 yard line.
Beck Deed to receive
this Woodyard's punt standing his own
15. Jeremiah Lynch. It's a fake.
And
they were close. I think
the upback who received a direct snap
is not going to get it.
He got to the
Charger 49
and I believe he's short.
The offense is running on the field like they got it.
Maybe a little bit of mind games
there for the ref.
It's a really close.
They gave it to him.
Head rep.
Deems that Chargers got a first down.
There we go.
Man, the story of this game so far has been
some special teams.
Trickery.
The fake extra
point.
And now a fake field goal with a direct
snap to an upback. My goodness.
We're not even through the first quarter yet.
I didn't quite see who it was, but the offensive line
did a really good job of giving him a second effort.
First down in 10. Ball at
midfield it's give to ruddy running left he's to the 50 45 40 makes him move hit down at the 33 yard line deep gashing run there from running to get deep into Kentucky Wesleyan territory I call that formation sling sling formation they had a shotgun on the back to each side a lot of options from there first down in 10 for the chargers they're at the panther 33 Hillsdale eight Kentucky Wesleyan nothing 3 41
left in the first quarter McCurnan in the gun standing his own three eight yard line
he shoot to his right bunch formation motion from Kineski from right to left
McCurnan in the gun looking looking has all day to throw down the field caught
by Pratt at the 10 five touchdown Chargers a beautiful pitch and catch from
McCurnin to Pratt and we have a little six seven little six celebration from Pratt
in the O line
And that's going to make it 14 to nothing.
Hillsdale leads Kentucky Wesleyan.
You can feel the energy in the stadium today.
I mean, the offense is dialed in.
So Barton, to make it 15, counts out his steps.
Snap good, hold good, kick is up, and it's good.
No.
It's incomplete, wait, not incomplete, excuse me, it's missed.
So Jude Barton is unable to convert.
on the extra point and that's going to make it Hillsdale 14 Kentucky, Kentucky Wesley and nothing.

Welcome back to Frank Moneywater
Stadium on the beautiful campus of Hillsdale College.
I'm Ted Ferringer alongside
me's tie-ruddy in the booth today
for this homecoming matchup
between the Chargers of Hillsdale
and the Panthers of Kentucky
Wesleyan.
Still leads Kentucky Wesleyan with 324 left in the first quarter 14 to nothing.
Man oh man it's been all chargers through the first 12 minutes of the ball game so far
so on Trots Harrison Burch in the Kentucky Wesleyan offense to try to respond
with the charger defense has been playing well so far so here we go fresh set of downs
for the Panthers starting at their own 25 first and 10 give to McCray and he's hit the back
field by Jacob Vance before leaning forward for maybe a yard to the 26 yard line second down and
nine 309 left first quarter and counting brought down by number 47 107 panthers huddling up at
their own 22 four receivers in the game three to the far side one to the near side Burton in the
McCray to his left
Burton rolls to his left
looking looking
finds nobody throws it out of bounds
pressure there from the
Chargers forces it
a throw away from Burton
now third down in nine
pursuit from every angle there
from the back side
and from the front side
it's got to throw it away
Burton getting no rest
for time to throw here
from his O line so far
the Chargers have been playing
excellent
in the trenches.
So Hillsdale's gotten off the field twice now.
They had, like I mentioned, they had an issue with that two weeks ago.
Let's see if they can get off the field here.
Third down in nine.
Panthers have their own 26, 244 left in the first quarter.
Burton in the gun, McCray to his left, four receivers in the game.
Three to the far side, one of the near side.
Vance showing blitz.
He might get him.
Wow.
Caught over the middle and a first down.
All the way up to the 39-yard line.
Emmanuel McCray.
The tailback went out of the backfield for a little flat route and beautiful call from Kentucky Wesleyan OC.
Couldn't quite tell if it was a design screen, but Vance flew straight to the line and Burs just dumped it off to McCray.
Hillsdale was bringing the entire house.
An all-out blitz and Wesleyan converts.
So now first down in 10.
Ball at the Panther 38.
Burton in the gun.
McCray to his right
back to pass looking looking
throws caught at the 45
and another first down completion
out to the 49 yard
line
to their own
10 yard
game
Will Ray with the reception
and that's going to move the Panthers up
to their own
47 yard line so the last two plays have been
first downs for the Panthers.
133 left in the first quarter.
Burton in the gun.
McCray to his left.
Motion across the field.
Give to McCray running right.
He has some room to the 50, 45, 40,
and brought down at the 38-yard line.
But a nice burst to steam there.
Caught up at the line of scrimmage,
bounced it off tackle,
and able to pick up about 11.
The Panthers now in Hillsdale territory,
I think for the first time today.
Panther's finding some room to run with McCray on the outside of the tackles there.
Some nice speed from the Panther tailback.
Burton, in the gun.
Ball at the charger 39.
Back to pass.
It's 1v1.
He's got a receiver downfield.
Caught it to 10.
5.
Down at the one yard line.
Cameron Brogan with the reception.
What a piece.
Beautiful throw.
Gorgeous throat.
Just on the back shoulder.
Brogan, a 5-11, 175-pound junior.
That's about how big I am.
About 5-10, 5-11, buddy.
Boy, is that dude fast?
Now we have a little bit of a tush-push formation for Kentucky Wesley.
And the ball's at the charger won.
And they're going to try to push Birch into the end zone.
And I don't think he got it.
Second down and goal.
That was an odd play.
It looked like both lines just sort of fell over.
Nobody really moved.
But it's going to bring up second down and one to go to the goal line for the Panthers.
Brogan was one-on-one.
I believe Ryan Ruddy was in coverage.
That was Ryan Ruddy with a botched coverage, yes.
Ryan Ruddy, the brother of Shay Ruddy, but also my co-host, Ty Ruddy.
Yes, your name is Ty.
Very nice family.
They gave me some food at their tailgate.
Very tasty food.
Some grapes.
I'll have to give Ryan the business after that one.
Not bad coverage, but he got beat.
He got beat by Birch and Brogan there.
That QV wide receiver connection was just simply better.
Yeah, a really good throw by Birch there, dumped it over the shoulder.
That's a hard throw to make, but it's also hard to catch, especially when there's coverage.
Obviously, coverage could have been a little bit tighter, but...
Some out-of-town scores before we start the second quarter.
Notre Dame 42, Arkansas 13.
Now, guys.
Last week, let's talk Notre Dame football here for a second.
My brother and I, we got out of the Dale, and we drove down to the Purdue, Notre Dame.
game. A little bit of secrecy, right? Oh yeah. We had to get out. I've been here for much too long
studying. So we go down to South Bend, right? Yeah. Beautiful campus. It's gorgeous. I mean,
it's like, she touched her on Jesus down there. Oh, yeah. Well, actually, you know, I'll keep you guys
updated. As we go throughout the show, I'll kind of detail our adventure, how we ended up in the
student section on NBC, how that all went down. But right now, it's...
Charger football.
So second down in goal.
We got a new QB in the game for the Panthers.
They're in Shotgun.
McCray, to his right, it's going to be QB power right?
I don't think he got it.
Didn't get it.
It's going to be third down in goal from the one.
So the Panthers went with the pistol formation there.
I heard the other day that one of the Cardinal sins of calling an offense
is going shotgun on a goal line.
play. Yes, we have the new QB in the game was key posy, a freshman.
A little bit bigger of a guy than Harrison Burch, the 6'180-pound starting quarterback. So now
it's third down in goal, shotgun. Bodge snap, give them a great, and he's hitting the backfield.
It's going to be fourth down in goal from the charger two. A good.
Go-line stand for Hillsdale with one more stop would ignite this crowd.
That was a bad snap, and I have a feeling he was not supposed to give it to the running back.
He sort of, running back sort of took it, and he looked at him.
He's only, he's not a quarterback.
He's a wide receiver, freshman wide receiver, botched shotgun snap, and almost fell past him.
And then he and McCray, the running back, were fighting over who's going to take him.
it. So really
interesting
turn of events here. I mean
Wesleyan drove right down the field
with Birch and now
they might squander seven points.
Which will make Ryan one of the
luckiest men in the world on come Monday
dinner. I was trying to figure out who was
19.
Not a starting number for the secondary
but once I went down that roster
and saw Ryan Ruddy from Ottawa Lake.
Ryan Ruddy.
Wait, you guys are not, you're from Temperance, Michigan.
Temperance, Michigan played high school football at Ottawa Lake Whiteford.
Two-time Division 8 state champions in Michigan.
Yes, they're Michigan royalty.
Michigan royalty.
And I am just, athletically, I'm Nebraska peasantry.
Yeah.
However, back to this Notre Dame game.
Let's hear that.
We show up, right?
How long do you think it takes to get there?
It's about an hour and a half to South Bend, right?
It's hour 45.
the game's at 3.30 against Purdue, right?
Frank, we're getting up at 6.30 in the morning.
I want to get good parking.
So we're on the road by 645.
And then we stop at Meyer to fill up with gas.
I don't know what people's opinions are of Meyer,
but it has saved the city of Hillsdale, Michigan.
That much is true.
So now it's fourth down in goal.
Birch is back in the game for the Panthers.
Shotgun, give him to the craye, up the middle,
and he's...
I'm not going to get it.
Chargers with a goal line stand led by Jacob Vance.
Even after a second effort, Jacob Vance able to just pull him out of the end zone.
And that's going to keep the Panthers scoreless at the start of the second quarter.
Now there's some good and there's some bad news.
Vance deserves the name, Hercules, I think.
That was one of the most impressive things I've seen so far from the Hillsdale defense this year.
I mean, he grabbed him by the jersey and pulled him backwards.
The good news is Chargers stopped him.
Bad news? You're on your own, too.
So McCurnan under center and, ah.
It looks like Wesleyan jumped.
D-line jumped.
The deal is, though, is so moved first.
So did Stras.
Ryan Strasser number 77.
He might have jumped to try to try to sell the off-sides.
the refs are consulting we're about to get a call ball is at the charger one so if this is half a distance to the goal
wow it will be on strasser and now it is first down three 10 ball is at three inches from the goal line probably
Yes, it is, oh man, it's within three to six inches of the end zone.
So McCurnan under center, Gishu standing in the backfield,
and McCurnin's just going to be able to get some more room for himself on second down.
Ball now, you got maybe a yard.
So ball's now spotted at the two-yard line.
That wasn't much, but that was a really good push from the offensive line.
McCurton was, I mean, standing in his end zone.
able just fall forward for about two.
So a little bit more breathing room here, but not much.
Bringing up second down.
Second down in nine.
Chargers 14, Kentucky Wesley and nothing.
Motion from Kineski.
McCurnin, under center, Gishu in the backfield,
give the Gishu, breaks one tackle in the end zone,
and leans forward to the five.
Good job from the freshman, not giving up a safety.
That was a little misdirection on that play.
Learning the other day that the Hillsdale Chargers
do not have a count.
in their offense, but that looked like about the closest thing that they might have to it.
And Gishu able to pick up about three or four on that play.
Third down and six for the Chargers at their own five.
McCurnin's now in shotgun, standing at his own goal line.
Gishu two is left.
Two receivers to the near side, one to the far.
Motion from Kineski from left to right.
QB power up the middle with McCurton, and he leans forward to the 10 and a half,
maybe 11. It's going to be fourth down for the Chargers and
fourth and one. Here comes the special teams to punt this one away with Ian Woodyard.
McCurnan, about a yard from the marker,
got hit by a Wesleyan defensive back that it looked like he didn't even see.
I mean, he was airborne.
So Woodier to punt this one away.
Not a great showing from the offense.
standing at the Hillsdale S in the northern end zone.
Good snap.
Punt is low to the right,
bounces at the charger 40 and
takes another Hillsdale bounce to midfield.
So Harrison Burch and Company
are going to trot on to try to respond
to cut into this Hillsdale 14, Kentucky Wesleyan
nothing lead.
We'll be back in 30 seconds.
You're listening to Charger football right here

Janisteen, Fox News.
Welcome back to Frank Moneywater Stadium on the campus of Hillsdale College.
I'm Ted.
He's tie in Chargers lead, Kentucky Wesleyan, 14 to nothing.
But the Panthers are driving.
Birch at his own 41, gives to McCray, and he gets up to the Charger 33-yard line.
That's a little spin move to pick up about two more.
Go ahead, Ted.
We stop at Meyer.
We have to get gas there, right?
Yeah.
We thought about, should we go?
buy some snacks in Meyer? Yes.
Because it's early in the morning.
You sneak him into the game room? What would you buy
if you have a $10 budget
at Myers? Meier for a
little snack before you know your next
meal is going to be at 1 o'clock in the afternoon.
This is 7 o'clock. Probably some checks
mixing corn nuts.
Second down in five for the Panthers.
Gifton McCray. He runs laterally
along the sideline and gets hit
at the 32-yard line.
Tackled there by Ryan Nixa.
Well, I went with a
protein bar, all natural.
No synthetic ingredients, you know, the drill.
I can't remember maybe a Laura bar, Lara bar or something.
It's a pack of six of them.
They had about a thousand calories per bar, so I felt energized.
It's a whole meal.
We get back in the car and I applied my compression socks so that my ankles don't get swollen when I drive.
Let me tell you, folks, buy some compression sleeve.
They're life-changing.
Third down and four for the Panthers.
Birch back to pass.
He's got a running back in the flat,
overthrown.
Jacob Vance on the coverage.
Fourth down and four.
Hunter's spurling, like free reign charging
through that offensive line like a bull.
That is a guy I don't want to be playing.
I don't blame Birch for throwing that one up to heaven.
Man, just kind of threw it out of bounds and hope for the best.
And the Panthers are going to attempt to field goal here.
interesting. This is a, oh man, this is a 49-yard field goal.
With a lefty kicker. Cole Cothorn going to attempt to kick a 49-yard field goal, and it's
no good. Just short. Just short of the crossbar, and Panthers stay scoreless.
Anyway, back to my little Odyssey down to South Bend. We get back in the car, fill up with gas,
do all that and we start driving and Google Maps doesn't put us on interstate 80 like the main
thoroughfare we went through all these back roads through small no nothing Michigan towns
it was very beautiful it was a very picturesque morning a country drive in Michigan there's nothing
like it really is nice like the interspersed groves of trees with open fields
was kind of a mist,
changing leaves.
Very beautiful drive.
It was just the quintessential
country drive before
a Notre Dame football game, you know?
I got to.
Like in the opening of Rudy,
the movie.
Yeah, well, that's it.
Yeah, so we drove down there, right?
We get to South Bend in record time.
I drive the speed limit, but about four over,
because if you go five or six,
the...
They can nab you.
They can have you for a speeding ticket if you go about five over.
But if you're going the speed limit, you're a geaser.
So I was just notified by Mr. Bertram that the 80-90s under heavy construction
would have had been seriously backed up.
You know, I usually do argue with Google Maps over that stuff.
But thank you, Mr. Bertram, for that tip.
Next time, if we head out that way, I'll keep that in mind.
Maybe the back roads are better.
I was going to say, I drove there about a year and a half ago for a high school football game.
It's right around South Bend, and I remember taking maybe one or two turns the whole time from Hillsdale.
So it's interesting that you kind of took a winding road, but I guess that makes sense.
Yeah.
And then I got sick of it, and then we got back on the interstate, because I want my life to be faster.
We have to get there faster.
No chill.
You know what I mean?
Uh-huh.
Today, it's just everything's so fast.
The way you get your news and travel.
That's why I like driving better than flying, because I think flying, like, you can go from one time zone to the other and just walk off a plane in four hours.
They're like, huh, where am I?
What have I just done?
Anyway, we get to South Bend in record time
because if you go six over, the cops are going to tag you.
And now it's parking, right?
Well, I had, this is where artificial intelligence improves your life.
Because you don't want to get tagged for the $80 parking.
So you ask Chad GPT, and it says, oh, there's this neighborhood just south of the campus.
You should find parking that.
for 20 bucks at someone's drive i'm like yes
save $60
there you go i'm tuned in now
so we drive down drive down there
we're going through these neighborhoods
and i'm thinking oh i don't
i don't have to pay $20 i can park for free
on the side of the road
so we found a spot because there's signs on
one side of the road that say
no parking during Notre Dame games
but on the other side
there are no signs
It looks like Wesleyan was
Challenging a spot
Or was it a fumble
I believe
it was something to do with the
running back in the flat with pass interference
But I don't know
It looked like he was shoved out of bounds
As the ball is in the air
But nevertheless
Chargers with it
They're leading Kentucky Wesley in 14 to nothing.
9.05 left in the second quarter.
McCurnin in the gun.
Gishu 2's left.
Motion from Ruddy from right to left.
Givder Ruddy the 35.
Sorry, from the 30 to the 35, hit out of bounds of the 37-yard line.
I think I have dyslexia with numbers while calling football games.
Well, it's hard on this football field.
Well, that's the way it is in anywhere, but you have to count up and then down.
And it's just, he ran from the 30 to the 35.
Picked up about six yard gain second down and four ball at the charger 38 McCurnan and pistol,
Gishu in the backfield with him, standing at his own 30, 836 left in the second quarter.
Bunch formation to the near side in Ruddy and Kineski.
McCurton back to pass, caught by Ruddy at the 38-yard line.
Nice pitching catch there, and it's a first down for the Chargers.
I didn't want to mention this earlier, but there was the same sort of screen route that they ran with
with number one
second or third play of the game and he dropped it so a little bit of redemption there
redemption from ruddy the standout junior who had two phenomenal seasons so far at hillsdale
mcernan in the gun first down in ten ball to charger 43 give to guichew it's an end
around to ruddy he's at the 35 40 makes a cut gets off a tackler and hit down back to the
line of scrimmage maybe gets one i thought he'd have some room there and then
He got a little interesting as he got to the line of scrimmage.
He almost ran into the back of his leading blocker and then got tripped up and then hit by a panther.
So now second down in nine.
7.28 left in the first half.
McCurnan in pistol.
Gishu behind him.
Two receivers in the game.
One to the far side.
One to the near side.
Hill's still 14.
Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
McCurnet, back to pass.
Sets.
Crows caught by Kineski down to the 44-yard line.
Athletic play from him.
The ball was thrown a little behind him.
He adjusted his body and then leaned forward to convert and move the chains.
An absolute laser from McCurnan.
And yeah, Kineski can't be able to adjust perfectly and pick up a ball that was a little bit behind him for first down.
First down for Hillsdale.
Ball is now spotted at the Panthers.
They're in the Wesleyan territory.
Give to Gishu.
He's to the 45.
Spin move down to the 38-yard line of the Panthers.
Gashing further in to Panther territory.
6.30 left in the first half.
I wonder if Gishu's taking a little bit of inspiration from Aspen Jainty last year.
I was just going to say his stance is straight up.
His stance in the background sort of looks like what they call Ashton Jentee, Mike Myers, right?
He's just sort of standing there ready to strike at any point.
completely vertical but it's been working so far this season second down and four ball at the panther 38 motion from metzger
give to to geishu up the middle he gets near the marker at the 34 yard line and it's going to be
I don't actually know what ashton genties measurables are but they have to be pretty similar to
yeah yeah
They look pretty similar in terms of size.
Chinty might be a little bit faster than Gishu, but Gishu having a great season nonetheless.
So third down and one.
Ball at the Panther, 35, McCurnan under center.
Gishu in the backfield, it's going to be quarterback sneak from McCurnan,
and he's going to get down to the 34-yard line, 33, first down for the Chargers,
moving right down the field.
That's been working really well for Hillsdale.
So I'm driving through the neighborhoods in South Bend.
Back to South Marin.
And we'll get some more of the neighborhoods in South Bend.
But first, Charger Football.
McCurn and in the gun, Gishu to his right.
First down in 10, ball at the Panther 33.
Metzker and Carrico to the top of the field.
It's a throw down the middle.
They're ready to the 10.
five touchdown chargers ruddy one-on-one on the near side and just
dusted his defender they really like that route especially with their fast
receivers they'll run a five-yard out McCurton will pump fake and then they'll
throw it up to the sideline and it works like a charm there for Shay Jay Ruddy
you can just call him Shay he's your brother so used to calling him by his first name
McCurnum with a great ball.
So Hillsdale 20, Kentucky Wesley and nothing.
On to the extra point for the Chargers.
And it's up.
And it's good.
Snap, good, hold good, kick is good.
And Hillsdale leads Kentucky Wesley in 21 to nothing.

Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium.
Hillsdale College.
That's Ty attempting to be Ted.
I am, Ted.
Sit down, son.
Hillsville College up 21-0.
Jordan Westress, kicking it off into the end zone.
It's pretty hard, isn't it?
Doing play-by-play.
But it's received by McCray at the 5th at the goal line, brought out to the 10,
and he smoked by...
The Charger Special Teams, it's Tut Carrico with the hit.
No surprise.
Wow, he's everywhere.
I was on a roll, man.
That guy is awesome.
Tut.
Tut.
Demolished that guy like he demolished Gen Cam last year.
Complete domination.
Tutte is a very intelligent young man.
Great athlete.
Great person.
Great in the classroom.
a model student model hillsdale college
charger
through and through
so first down in 10
panthers trying to respond
with birch they're at their own 11
give de mccray and he's hit at the 10
I just thought of the fact
back to the line of scrimmage
it should have been one of our
one of our key stories coming in the day
but tuck carco is a hillsdale
college charger through and through
but he's really a Kentucky Wesleyan panther
at heart
uh I don't know if he's ever been
associated with Kentucky Wesleyan however
he lives he lives he was
born and raised in Owensboro, which is also the home of Kentucky Wesleyan.
Played high school football on their field.
I mean, if I grew up in South Bend, would I be, I mean, I could be a Michigan fan in South Bend.
There's probably some of those people out there.
But second down in 10, ball at the Panther 11.
Birch back to pass, pressured and asked to throw it away.
Almost a safety on Kentucky Wesleyan.
But I mean, are there any mission?
Michigan fans, U of M fans that grew up and were born and still live in Columbus, Ohio?
Is that even possible?
Well, that's a good question.
If anyone is listening to this.
There's a couple players.
If anyone's listening, please send tips to.
I used to do this in high school where I'd put my phone out on air.
I'm not going to do that.
I almost sent my hills to email.
I had so many numbers just terrorizing my phone for the next couple months.
Third down and 10 for the Panthers.
Birch back to pass.
It's a huge throw down the sidelines.
Incomplete.
Intended for DJ Perry, the freshman receiver with Nolan's Drake in coverage, and it falls incomplete.
Just overthrown him.
Man, Birch has some arm strength.
Yeah, that was about a 45-yard throw in the air, and he overthrew him.
So now on comes.
Punt return for the Chargers.
Perry had a step on Chenevy, but just overthrew him, and Shay Ruddy back to receive.
Ruddy back to receive.
Joyner to kick this, punt this one away, rather, for the Panthers.
3.50 left in the second quarter.
Hillsdale, 21.
Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
It's hit by a charger gunner.
So a lot to unpack on this play.
At the Kentucky Wesleyan, 46.
Yeah, roughing the punter in the end zone.
And then it's a near muff by a gunner from the Charger Squad,
which nearly caused a turnover.
And then a penalty on the other end of the field.
So really a good day from special teams with the fake field goal and the fake punt,
but maybe not the prettiest moment there.
Not a bit of a sloppy play from the Hillsdale Chargers there.
And with that penalty, Wesleyan's going to accept it running into the kicker, get a five-yard penalty and then redo the kick.
So I guess we get it redo the fun.
Joyner, standing at his own two-yard line for the Panthers with 340 left in the first half to punt this one away to Ruddy standing at the Panther 46-yard line.
If Ruddy runs this one back, I think Wesleyan, Kentucky Wesleyan's going to regret accepting that penalty.
Joyner, decent punt filled by Ruddy.
No, not fielded by Ruddy.
Ruddy backs off, bounces at the 50 and takes a Panther bounce all the way down to the 30-yard line.
So I'm in South Bend, Indiana, driving through the neighborhoods, and one side of the road is you have to pay for parking,
And the other side is there's no sign.
And we find this spot.
Do you know in Christmas vacation when the Chosen Tree lights up gold when Clark Griswold goes out?
And there's an angel choir?
Yes, that's the spot, man.
I'll tell you why in just a second.
First, charger football.
First down in 10 from all, Colin McCurnan, ball at the charger.
31. Gishu in the back field with him.
Gifty Gishu running right east to the 30, 32, 35, 40.
and hit out of bounds of the 48-yard line,
getting this crowd pumped up and the sideline
nearly to midfield.
Great run from him.
A little, it's really interesting running wide
outside the tackles.
You have to run almost double the distance
for like a 10-yard gain.
You have to run 20.
But he did a really good job bouncing it outside
at the 32 and creating more space for himself.
They get a first down for the charges.
Now balls of their own 47.
McCurnan under center.
It's a pitch out to Riffle is to the 45, head of steam.
It's over a Panther defender down to the 41-yard line.
Great burst to speed from the senior.
And that's going to move the chains.
Colin Davis checks into the game for Andrew Kineski.
C.D.8.
80?
CD-80.
So we'll see what Colin Davis does on this play.
First down in 10.
Chargers in Panther territory at the Panther 42.
Motion from right from right to left.
McCurnan in the gun.
McCurnan's going to keep Qie power to the right to the 30, 20, 15, 10, 5.
He's in a touchdown.
Oh, he's out at the one.
It looked like he might have had that.
Colin.
But they're going to call him out of the one.
McCurton showing some athleticism with the legs
all the way down to the Panther 4
Oh, he stepped out earlier than I thought he did
But still a beautiful run by Colin McCurnan.
Hey, he ran to whose side?
Colin Davis's side.
Colin Davis.
Nice ceiling block there from the junior.
So I'm in South Bend and I find the spot, right?
It's a perfect spot because it's a
at the end of the road by the stop sign.
It's the last open spot.
So when you pull up to it, no one parks behind you.
So you don't have to parallel park or try to pull out.
And so I'm thinking, I'm from a small town of Nebraska.
We never had to parallel park for our driver's test.
Right.
There are no parallel park.
We don't have people for that.
So I found a spot and I stop.
I'm like, ah, am I going to get ticketed for this?
And then I walk up to this house and ask this guy,
can we park here, sir?
And he had a beautiful house.
Like, a really nice house.
And he said, oh, yeah, sure.
Like, sir, you have a beautiful house.
You know, you gotta butter him up a little bit.
You gotta butter him up.
What if he lied?
You said, no, you park there.
And then, you know, I come back and 20 hours later,
you come back and you got a ticket.
It's just like, oh, man.
So we get out of the car.
And we start walking towards,
the stadium to which we forgot our jackets because it's kind of cold you know and kind of like
it's kind of early in the morning it's overcast and you're like what is going on because the wind
kind of blows weird but the forecast is supposed to be like 70 we brought jackets ended up not
needing jackets because it was so hot surrounded by 110,000 people I would imagine there's a little bit of
heat in that stadium 77,000 sorry 110,000's a big house it's not a very big football stadium
Coming up is homecoming coordination.
And then I guess I'll finish my story.
But first, Charger football.
So McCurton under center pitch out to Gishu running left.
He's wrangled in the backfield by, man, a pride of Panthers back to the tent.
So he's going to lose five or six on the play.
That's going to set up second down and go.
goal from the Panther 10.
Do Panthers travel in a pride?
Yeah.
Did it really?
You see what I did there?
Yeah, I did.
That was nice.
I knew lions travel in a pride.
I didn't know Panthers did too.
Oh, I don't know.
I mean, it sounds right.
I mean, I feel like they're kind of cat like lions.
That's true.
McCurton, in the gun, second down and goal.
They got nine yards to go.
A minute, 20 left in the first half.
It's quarterback keep up the middle,
and McCurnin's helmet pops off.
He faked the jet motion from Brutty and he got maybe one or two.
But he's going to have to come out of the game because his helmet came off,
which means Pete McDevitt?
Are we just going to see a little bit of Pete McDevitt action?
No, no, no.
Eli Boyce.
He is my sweetmate and 1FS Simpson.
We'll see what Boyce will do on this play.
I think he's going to have to come off.
I believe that's the rule.
McCrner has to come off for at least one play.
Coach Dreffler is talking to the side judge.
We've seen a little bit of trickery already today,
and I know that they have a package with Shea Ruddy and the Wildcat.
It would be interesting to see if they go to that here on the goal line.
I think we should say something about the homecoming.
Phil's got as elected not to take a timeout.
We'll take a 10-second runoff.
Please set the game clock to 103.
It's 103.
So Hillsdale going to take a 10-second runoff instead of a timeout.
And it's going to be 103 on the clock.
At halftime, the Hillsdale Homecoming, King and Queen,
the culmination of a weeks long.
Oh, we're staying on air for that.
Are we?
We should.
We need to.
It's like the biggest event of the year.
It's true.
We have all the names ready to go, all the bios.
Yeah, we could do some introductions.
So we'll save that for halftime.
For now, it's Charger football.
From the 8.
From the 5, rather.
From the 5, rather.
So we have some...
A little bit of chess match with the wrestler.
...competing coaches here with...
And we have a 10-second runoff,
accepted by the Chargers because of it.
Helmet falling off.
And the refs congregating again, and neither McCurnan nor Boyce are on the field.
So we have no quarterback on the field.
What we really do.
Shea Ruddy.
Shee Ruddy was a D8 quarterback.
Division 8 quarterback.
Division 8 quarterback for Ottawa Lake Whiteford Ball Club down south near the Ohio border.
They, senior year, they won the state title at 4.
field always brings me back to that viral video with day la salle have you seen that video
this is a great video i don't think he's gonna hit him every play a lot of iconic moments
they're gonna know we came before we all i don't know where that guy is now but he should be in
broadcasting probably playing in the NFL i don't know about that but you know who is playing in the
NFL. Isaac Tesla. Who would have thought in 2022 in the fall that in three years time,
the kid from Hudsonville, Michigan would be playing for the Lions.
What a great small town story, too. It's just like how in three years, Ted and Ty will be
working for ESPN. Call in games, big games, every Saturday night at 7.30.
And who doesn't love an underdog story? This is true. Yeah. Tesla, another
one of those small town underdog stories, played quarterback in high school at a really small school,
made a name for himself here at Hillsdale, transferred to Arkansas, a couple good years there.
If he's listening to the broadcast right now, Isaac, I'll take a signed jersey.
If anyone is listening that knows him.
Make that too.
Please reach out to him right now, tell him to head and tie from 101.7 with like a signed jersey.
I don't even watch NFL.
I'm not a big NFL guy.
You know, I've seen two games this year, a total of probably 10 or 12 plays.
And both of Isaac Tesla's one-handed catches were in that bunch of plays that I've seen this year.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
Anyway, I'm in South Bend, right?
And we start walking.
Remember we grabbed our jackets when the weather was kind of sketchy?
We didn't need our jackets.
It was like 80 degrees.
We toured the law school.
Have a family friend that goes there for law school.
Nice.
Oh, man.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.
Beautiful architecture.
Beautiful campus.
Much bigger than here.
I felt like a little homeschool kid going to the big city for the first time being like, oh, my goodness.
There's just so many people around, the tailgating.
I mean, Division I won football in the United States of America is insane.
Yeah.
So the game starts at 3.30, like I mentioned.
So what time do you think Ted wants to get into the stadium to get our seats?
I guess if Ted Ferringer wants to be in the seat, game starts at 3.30.
Ted Ferringer wants to be in the seat around 1-130.
We'll get back to that.
But first, charge your football.
36 seconds left in the first half.
Hillsdale 21, Kentucky Wesley, and nothing.
It's a third down and goal for the Chargers.
They're at the Panther 5.
Five yards to add to this three touchdown lead.
McCurnin's in the gun, Gishu two is left.
We have a bunch set to the near side with Pratt, Ruddy, and Carico.
We'll see if the chargers can get a touchdown out of this drive.
McCurnan, back to pass, looking right, rolls to his right, throws incomplete,
overthrown Ruddy, who's running out of real estate.
At the corner of the end zone, and that's going to send out.
Hillsdale.
Hillsdale's kicking team.
I believe we have a new kicker.
Hillsdale been experimenting a lot, so they went from...
With the special teams.
They went, Jordan Westridge, D-1 transfer to Jude Barton,
the really walk-on, and now we have a new kicker.
We'll get that name to you.
But first, we'll see if the kick is good.
It's a 24-yarder, snapback, hold good, kick is up,
Ben. No good. Wide left. That was Dylan
D'Dario.
A freshman out of Granger, Indiana.
Interesting. So there's a flag on the field. He missed it
wide left. The freshman stepping in for some of the kicking woes
for the Charger Special Teams. And now we have more
controversy with 28 seconds left in the second quarter.
Longest two minutes of last two minutes of a fourth quarter,
I've seen it a long time.
Hillsdale had some kicking troubles last year,
and it wasn't entirely on the players.
They had two kickers total.
They had three total.
One of them was down with an injury from most of the year.
So they were really looking for some relief for their two kickers.
Brought on Jude Barton from the club soccer team.
Defense.
opposition
automatic
perfect.
So a change of events here.
Colin Davis is the long snapper.
You cannot touch the snapper
when he's snapping the ball
because he's defenseless.
The Panthers,
I've never heard that,
roughing the snapper.
And now they basically gift
the Chargers
four more tries.
From the five.
From the five yard line.
They've already stopped them four times.
Three times.
rather. And now you just gift them
four more. So really
tough going there
for the Panther
Special Teams unit and now
Chargers are going to try to run this one in.
Eye formation.
First down and goal
from the Panther 5. McCurnan
Under Center rolls out. He's going to throw it.
Rolling, rolling, throws incomplete
for a diving
Kineskney and you thought
that was a run all the way in
Chargers elect to throw
on that play. That's some old school
90s Nebraska ball right there.
Throwing from...
Eye formation. No. The formation was
the play called... I got it. I don't know
if Nebraska would probably throw in the 90s.
The pads are too big.
I thought Nebraska was a three yards in a cloud of
dust time team, especially in the 90s when they were good.
Ah.
Husker football in the 90s.
Huskerland. Nothing like Huskerland.
Second down and goal. Ball at the Panther 3.
Pitch back to Gishu running right
following his blockers and he's tackle.
and it's going to force third down in goal.
Maybe he got one yard on the play,
and now it's third down and goal from the Panther three still.
So no, he didn't get any yards on that play.
He just got back to the line of scrimmage.
Oh, continue.
The Chargers really making this drive sort of like
the last 50 to 30 meters of a 400-yard dash
when you're just dog-tired.
You're going to cross the finish line.
But it's taken away too much time.
Track. The sport of track is so humbling and so difficult.
So we're back in South Bend, right?
And we tour the law school, and, you know, I'm just blown away by the beauty.
I don't know what the classes are like, but it sure helps when the architecture of something is just amazing.
Right, right.
We had to go get some food, right?
So we walk across campus, first to the dining hall where they asked,
they asked me if I was a Notre Dame student.
I said I wasn't.
They said, you cannot eat here.
Wow.
They turned you away?
Like, I was going to pay.
Good thing you had that 1,000 calorie protein bar.
Hey, you're a master storyteller, man.
That's Chekhov's gun right there.
Third down and goal.
We'll get back to the South Bend story later.
Motion from Kineski.
McCurnin in the gun, looking towards Gishu, he's going to throw across the middle,
and incomplete.
It hits off a Panther defender and ricochets into the back of the end zone.
So another throw on third down and goal.
And now it's a fourth down.
That was a lot of miscommunication.
From the charger, sorry, from the Panther 3.
That looked like a three-way miscommunication right there between McCurnon.
Crossing route across the middle that the goal line,
was underthrown, but the receiver had no idea the ball was going for him.
And now the Chargers are going to go for it.
With nine seconds left on the clock, Hillsdale 21, Panthers nothing.
McCurnan's in the gun, motion from Kineski.
Three receivers in the game.
He's looking towards Carrico.
He's got him in the end zone.
Touchdown.
Chargers.
And Carrico just said, folks, step aside.
I got it covered.
And that makes it Chargers, 27.
Panthers, nothing.
with five seconds left in the half.
Now the freshman kicker on to make this
hopefully a 28-point game.
Counts out his steps, scurro to hold.
Neil Likens to snap for the Chargers.
Snap, good, hold good, kick is up.
And it is good.
Drills it.
Hillsdale, 28.
Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
You're listening to Charger football.
We got another flag.
Oh my goodness.
In the last two minutes, there have been at least five flags.
Some sloppy football in the last couple minutes here from the Kentucky Wesleyan.
Panthers, and as I say that, it's on Hillsdale College.
The charges are guilty of a fall starts.
So now they're going to have to back the freshman up to make an extra point to the 20.
So now it's a 30-yard field goal.
Last kick looked like it was good from 45.
He drilled that thing, so.
So they...
Just got to repeat that.
We'll see if the kicking was to continue
or the freshman will separate himself
and try to become the new guy,
the new sticker for Charger Football.
Snap, good, hold good, kick is up.
And it's good.
Halesdale, 28, Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
You're listening to Charger Football right here
on 101.7.
I'm Emma Wehrman, welcoming you to Far East Close Up,
where we provide Westerners a front row seat to the customs, cultures, and everyday life in East Asia.
Today, we talk about the history of the ninja.
Ninjas were covert agents in feudal Japan known for espionage, sabotage, infiltration, and assassination.
The word for ninja in Japanese is Shinobi.
Shinobi were trained in ninjitsu, which is the art of stealth.
And they were most prominently used during the Sengoku period from 1467.
to 1600, as this was a time of much civil war and social upheaval in Japan.
While the ninja was characterized by stealth and adaptability,
he did not achieve this with a black suit.
Instead, he dressed like monks or peasants to blend in.
Though ninjas of history no longer exist,
there are still modern-day practitioners of ninjitsu
who choose to study martial arts, stealth, and espionage techniques.
I'm Emma Weirman, and this has been Far East, close-up.
On Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale. I'm Ted He's Ty and we have five seconds left in the first half.
Hillsdale leads Kentucky Wesleyan, 28 to 0.
On Trots, the Panther offense after a charger.
Charger dominance on offense?
I would say, yes.
In the trenches, the chargers have probably dominated the game so far.
but Harrison Burch really hasn't played that bad.
Pretty efficient game for the freshman.
He's got a lot of arm talent as he rolls out to his right.
And...
He catch that.
A nice throw.
No, incomplete.
Along the sidelines for
Panther receiver,
but he's going to be out of bounds.
So that's the end of the first half.
And now we're kind of getting to the main event of the afternoon, really.
The main event of the week?
Homecoming is a very big...
big event at hillsdale college it's a week full of festivities for the students and a lot of
alumni come back to support the hillsdale college chargers for homecoming and go ahead ted
take it away well the homecoming court for 2025 uh man these names are going to be difficult to
pronounce maybe you know some of them i know a lot of them we have we have ella tierney it looks

The guys, the ATO rep, Hugh McCauley.
Hill College cheerleaders.
Delta, Nick Oliver Beezer, Sigma Chi rep.
Lance Linter is an independent representative with Nathan Rastovich, independent representative.
independent representative, but really is Simpson.
I mean, that should say Simpson next to his name.
Andrew Winter, independent rep.
Also, Simpson.
And Andrew Agbe is the Delta Sigma, representative.
So I don't really know.
We have a halftime show, a little dance here from the cheerleaders.
Who's the betting favorite?
I was just going to say that.
Can we even talk about these things?
I think, and I don't know, if we're politically commentating the politics of the homecoming court,
like who you think is going to win, I think with Simpson, it has 179 odd members,
that Andrew Winter, I think, is the betting favorite, in my opinion, to be homecoming king.
I would agree.
For the girls, I have no idea what the, like, the political opinion.
or like what the voting is like among that.
Like that's just a part of campus that I don't know about.
Andrew Winter is definitely the favorite.
He's very, very well liked around campus.
An awesome guy.
He has this hat.
He's always wearing this hat.
Yeah, yeah.
He's from Nebraska.
He's from Lincoln, Nebraska.
So not too far from me.
But yeah, sorry, I cut you off there.
No, I think you're exactly right.
I think Simpson, 170 guys.
all of whom I would assume love Andrew Winter,
not to mention the hundreds of other students around campus
who appreciate the warmth that he brings to the campus.
He's an awesome human being.
I wouldn't be surprised even if Nathan Rastavec,
the other essentially Simpson representative,
sicked all his guys on Andrew Winter and said,
let's go all him.
I think it's maybe, yes.
I know what Nathan's the south side R.A.,
he lives across the hall for me.
Really, I'm affiliated.
Like, I don't know.
I actually forgot to.
Did you?
I believe I won't.
I won't reveal my vote.
No, don't.
I won't reveal my vote.
I won't reveal my vote.
That's over-air.
I'm going to be honest with you.
In terms of the queen candidates, no idea.
Eliana Tierney, representing Kyle Omega.
So, Kyle Omega.
The queen came out of Kyle Omega last year.
Lizzie Pinola.
brother plays linebackers for the Hillsdale College Chargers.
Could it be back-to-back for Kai Omega?
And one thing that's going to be interesting to note is the off-campus house harbor
was represented one homecoming queen king the past three years.
Wow.
Past three years and they don't have a representative on court this year.
So the streak is over.
It will not be a four-peat, but they had a great.

But first.
Your 2025 homecoming queen is Cecilia Jantzen.
Wow.
So Cecilia Jansen, independent rep for the girls is queen.
Andrew Winter.
And Andrew winner is.
Hillsdale's Homecoming King.
And we have some, well, we have everybody rushing onto the field for their cheering on their candidates.
Everybody's going to go congratulate their people.
That's a wonderful sight to see.
So Cecilia Jansen, an independent representative out of West Wing, the off-campus house,
Andrew Winter being hoisted by his fellow Simpsonites.
he's got the hat he's got the hat he's always got the hat on and
wow every candidate right now is being thrown in the air but we should probably give some more

I hope one day to write fiction,

Good for him.
So those are the Queen and King of the 2025
homecoming court of Hillsdale.
And now we have a lot of craziness happening right now.

A very well-produced documentary came out last year from some Hillsdale College students
detailing the 1985 season and the Hillsdale College Chargers Road to the National Championship.
So check that out if you get a chance.
Very cool to see a lot of alums on campus just going to show the kind of legacy that
current students are a part of meet some cool people and just feel the love that this place and the good people it's produced over the years it's touched a lot of lives and it's really neat to be a part of but that's a wrap on homecoming court 2025 two independents win i don't know was it two independents last year as well it was a kyle mega and an independent last year
And with that, it looks like I'm going to take a break.
I don't know about you, Ty.
Let's take a break.
Let's take a break.
We'll be back for the second half.
Yeah, we'll be back for the second half.
You're listening to Charger football right here on 101.7.
Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium on the beautiful campus of Hillsdale College.
I'm Ted alongside me's Ty Ruddy.
If you're just tuning in, Hillsdale leads Kentucky Wesley in 28.
Eight to nothing.
Through the first half of play, Hillsdale has outgained Kentucky Wesleyan in pretty much every category.
It's been charge your dominance through one half of play.
Rush yards, my goodness, Hillsdale's rushed for 144 yards through two quarters.
Fourteen first downs to the Panther five first down.
first down.
So really,
offense efficiency,
defense efficiency,
all leaning towards
the Chargers.
Well, some score updates
from around
the country
with football.
Oh, man, I love Saturdays.
Saturday, sir. There's nothing better.
Best day of the week.
Sunday is the Lord's Day,
but Saturdays
these are college football days, man.
Notre Dame beat Arkansas
56 to 13.
So maybe Sam Pittman's era
is probably going to come to an end
in Arkansas.
Sam Pittman plays at Arkansas now?
No, he coaches there.
Oh, really?
There's Isaac Tesla as coach.
Wow.
So it looks like the Sam Pittman era
will be probably coming to an end.
That's a tough loss
for the Razorbacks
at home against the fighting Irish.
So, yeah, back to this little town.
Speaking of the fighting Irish.
Northern Indiana called South Bend.
You probably wonder why they called South Bend.
Well, it's the St. Joseph River that runs through the town, which also runs through Hillsdale.
Funny enough.
That's right.
You could probably just set up a boat.
right down to South Bend
to Notre Dame Stadium
but no we do the whole
we walk around we get some food
we got some five guys
we did it right
we got into the stadium you said
130
we got it at 2 30
okay I mean it was
I figured I'd go safe
I'm not a psychopath
well I did at like
143 I'm like yeah we should probably
so we're going
so we go into the stadium
and
The tickets we got from the family and friends, so they're on, they're in the Purdue section.
They're in the away section up in the nose, not the nosebleeds, because it's really a small stadium,
but they're up pretty far away from play.
And then something insane happened.
And I will tell you what happened.
Whoa, cliffhanger.
Something unbelievable happened that really scared me, but also just confused me.
So we'll get back to that.
But first, start of the second half is underway.
Kicked there by Crawthorne of the Panthers,
and it's going to bounce out of bounds for a touchback past Brutty.
On comes McCurnan and Company to add to this 28-point lead.
They lead.
Kentucky Wesleyan, well, 28 to 0.
Pretty easy math.
28 minus 0 is 28.
Surprising for a history major can do that mental math so fast, but yeah.
Not hard.
So here we go.
ball is at the charger 25 to add to this four touchdown lead first down in 10 McCurnin in the gun
gueshoe to his right three receivers in the game two to the near side one to the far side motion
from Kinesini and we have four flags on the field false start 61 offense five rides have the
Refes have no mercy in D2.
They're calling out the number.
Every one of those refs threw some laundry.
That backs them up.
So first down and 15 for the Chargers.
They're at their own 20.
Keep an eye on tonight.
It's a white out.
Oregon at Penn State.
That's right.
Yeah.
In honor of Charlie Kirk, too, which is going to be great to see.
Fake there for McCurton.
It's a fake power to Gishu and McCurney.
It's up to the 30-yard line.
It gets back 10 yards, and it's going to set up second down in five.
Yeah, I feel like they haven't done a lot of whiteouts in the past two years.
Yeah, because they do them during prime time.
I remember they've done it with Michigan, but man, talk about...
The noon, the noon, big noon kickoff when Fox bought the rights.
It changed all the scheduling.
Gotcha.
But talk about an electric atmosphere.
Second down in six.
McCurton in the gun, give to Gishu.
He's running left, and he's hit...
Maybe loses he are or gets back to the line of scrimmage, yes.
We need to bring back more whiteouts.
I'm glad that ABC got the rights to that game.
And talk about some tough realignment with the conferences,
but also the TV rights.
CBS, I think, really lost out on some of the big games.
They went from SEC at 3.30 with the iconic announcers
to now doing some of the more JV.
games, which has been really interesting to see.
Third down and six. Chargers at their own
29, McCurnum back to pass. It's a screen to
Kineski's to the 30. It spins forward
to the 35 and he's going to get a first down.
Athletic play there for Andrew Kinesny
and it's going to move the chains.
So I'm up in the nosebleeds
and we sit down. We're one of the first
people to be in the stadium. We're just kind of taking it in. It's awesome. And then this boom
happens behind us. Loud. Anyway, back to the game. We'll have to discuss more on what was this boom.
This better be a really good story. McCurman, under center, give Deguuu running up the gut.
And he burst his speed down to the 41-yard, 39-yard line, rather.
He runs about as hard as Isaiah Pacheco in the NFL. I mean, he is,
He always puts his head down and he never gets tackled on Gishu, that is, never gets tackled on first contact.
He's always putting his head down and making a second effort.
Good there for about five.
Second down and six.
Good for four.
Ball at the charger, 39.
Motion from Kinesny.
McCurnan and Pistol, back to pass, looking, throws McGishu in the flat.
He gets to the 39, 40.
And skirts out of bounds.
near the first down to 45.
Little tightrope act along the sideline.
And it's going to be marked out at the 43.
It's really hard to count those hash marks.
Third down and two yards for the Chargers.
They lead Kentucky Wesleyan, 28 to nothing.
12-0-2 left in the third quarter.
McCurnin, under center.
Gishew in the backfield with him.
Running the far side with Carico to give Teguuu up the middle
and he stopped short of the first down, hit in the backfield.
By a pride of Panthers.
We need a fact check.
We need a fact check from our studio.
Yeah.
Lily Faye, please look up if a group of Panthers,
if it's called a pride or something else,
because it's a pride of lions.
Pride of lions, and you're right, they're both cats.
So I can see it, but on the other hand, do Panthers, they live in the jungle?
They're kind of lone hunters, right?
Do they live in groups?
I know they go in trees a lot, which is kind of odd.
Panthers, I think.
You can't fit more than one panther in a tree, though.
That is true.
Ian Woodier, to punt this one away, staying at his own 30, takes the Hillsdale bounce and lands down at the...
Panther 15.
Okay.
Not a bad punt from Ian Woodier.
So a couple fun facts for our audience here today.
A Pride is for lions, confirmed by Lily Fay,
a streak of tigers, a sloth of bears.
Okay, that's interesting.
And we're still waiting on that, uh...
A bloat of hippopotamus, is that funny?
A bloat of hippopotamus.
We're still waiting on...
It would be funny if she just was coming up with these.
And we're just sounding like idiots.
A leap of leopards.
There's no way.
She's puppeteering us right now.
Back to the game.
Back to the game.
11 minutes left in the third quarter.
Bukert back to pass.
Sorry, I brain farted on his name.
Sorry, Birch, you know why?
They haven't been out on the field much.
Harrison Birch and the Kentucky Wesleyan offense have not had a lot of opportunities to respond
because the end of the half, Charger offense was on the field for the two minutes
felt like 30.
Yeah, yeah.
So now 1029 left in the third quarter.
Hillsdale, 28, Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
Birch in the gun.
McCray to his right, bunch formation to the far side.
Birch, back to pass.
Shovel passes it to McCray at the 15.
He's to the 20.
Leaps over, Matt, the 25s.
Spunned down by Jacob Vance of the 31.
We saw a hurdle two weeks ago.
Yeah.
And Shea went up and then straight back down on his tailbone.
nursing that injury for a little bit.
Two more that our studio assistant just sent us.
A basket of crocodiles and a zeal of zeal of zebras.
So two more fun facts for audience.
We're still waiting on the Panthers, though.
I'm interested what the Panthers would be.
So first down in 10 for Birch and Company and the Panthers.
First and 10 at the 32 fumble by McCrae,
and it lands all the way to the Panther 48.
And the Chargers have it.
McCrae's fumble, he coughed it up at about the 40, and that ball bounced at least 10 yards.
After a really nice move at the line of scrimmage, a second effort got him about five more yards,
and then he just sort of threw the ball.
Popped out about 15 yards, Chargers first down at midfield.
We have...
I can do no wrong today.
We have confirmation.
Pride of Panthers, or a pack.
Okay.
A pride or a pack of Panthers.
Thank you very much, Louis Faye.
That was, boom.
Oh, no.
Just like that.
We picked the right homecoming king.
And now this, man, it's going to be a good weekend.
First down in 10 for the Chargers.
Ball at the Panther 49.
McCurnin and the gun.
Running in the back field with him.
Give to Ricci.
No, it's an end-around to Carico.
It's the 50.
45.
Fights forward to the 41-yard line,
tackled by a pack of Panthers.
Come on.
That was your chance.
No, I'm changing.
To save it.
Okay, yeah.
So.
So this boom, you're a wonder.
Back to Southbound.
I turn around and this guy is laying over on the bleacher holding his arm.
And the bones of his arm are like the wrist is almost twisted the wrong way.
Do you know when you grab somebody like this and twist?
It was so weird.
It was like purple.
Man.
We'll have to get back to that.
But first.
Second down and three for the Chargers.
They're at the Panther 42.
Gishu up the middle.
Still running.
Trucks over to Panther Defender at the 20.
Six-yard line.
Tough running from the freshman from Wiley, Texas.
And this Charger O-line is taking over right now.
Colin Davis checks into the game.
Andrew Kineski checks out.
Keep an eye on that kid.
CB 80.
That kid's got a spark, I'm telling you.
First down in 10 for Hillsdale.
They're driving into Panther territory at the Kentucky Wesleyan, 27-809 left.
And the third quarter, give to Gishi running, right?
He's got some room.
He's to the 20, 15, 10, 5.
Touchdown.
Chargers.
There's a flag on the field.
Two flags on the field.
One at the 24 and the other one at the 21-yard line.
Has to be a hold.
Has to be a hold.
The refs are signaling holding.
that looks like that touchdown's coming back
but an excellent run with excellent vision by
Gishu just
some
a little bit of undisciplined blocking on the
outside there by the receivers
whom I did not see
we're now
shocked we're like
what do we do we're standing here and this guy
is just like oh man
he's got a purple wrist
he's broken arm he doesn't look good
he's a little bit older
and he there's another guy next
to us and he says, quick, quick, grab my phone and call Angelica.
So he has a guy because he can't move his wrist.
He had another guy fish his finger into like his front pocket on his plaid shirt and call his wife.
We'll get back to that.
But first.
First down in 17 after that holding call, McCurnet back to pass after faking and end around.
He's out a ton of room to run.
He's to the 30.
25, spun down at the 24.
Takes a heavy hit, but gets back some of the aridage that was retracted.
Subtracted?
Subtracted from the hold on that potential touchdown from Ben Gishu.
So this guy calls Angelica on the phone.
He dials her number, and then he's holding it to his ear while he's talking to her.
and he says
man this is really difficult to say a story
when I'm trying to do play by play
722 left in the third quarter
McCurnan in the gun motion from Kinesny
Riffles in the backfield with him
throw out in the flat to Kinesny
he's to the 20 down to the 18 yard line
lands really hard on his shoulder
but gets up just fine
so pass complete to the sophomore
starting tight end
it's going to make third and short
Gain of four is going to set up.
What is it exactly?
A third and two, 6.50 left in the third quarter.
Hillsdale, 28.
Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
McCurnan in the gun, Ripple to his right.
Ruddy and Scura to the far side.
Motion from Ruddy from left to right.
McCurney back to pass, looking towards Reddy, caught by Ruddy at the 15.
and hit down at the 16-yard line.
Loses a yard on the move.
Well, he starts talking Angelica on the phone.
And he is so distraught.
He's like, I can't.
I just, I cannot miss this ball game.
I've been here all day.
He does not want to leave.
Wow, the men with the purple wrist wants to stay, huh?
He wants to stay because he loves his fight in Irish so much.
So then the EMTs arguing with EMTs about staying.
I want to know what the boom was.
That was him falling onto the bleachers.
First down in 10, ball to Panthers 16.
McCurnin back to pass.
Throws incomplete.
Intended for Kinesny in the end zone.
Double covered.
Good coverage there from the Panthers,
and it's going to be second down in 10.
Well, this argument ensues, and then the game starting.
It's just, man, they got to do something about nosebleed culture
during football games have to be it's like the zoo up there you know what i mean yeah yeah it's it's it's
it's pretty unruly second down in 10 for the charges 545 left third quarter give to tetler running right

hasn't said and they'd heckle during the show and stuff.
Unruly.
Spitting their peanuts on the ground.
Yeah, it's just.
So that's nosebleed culture, huh?
Yes, but they start arguing, fine, he finally take care of him.
So now a seat opened up.
I can stretch my legs out.
Well, a lightning strike, and they say on the big board, the game is delayed.
Wow.
McCurnin, back to pass in the gun, looking right to Tatler in the flat.
and he tight ropes along the sideline gets the first down down to the four before getting knocked out of bounds athletic play from him
450 left in the third quarter hillsdale 28 kentucky wessian nothing
what he did not get the first down i could have swore excuse me that he got a first down but he did not so now it's fourth in two
and coach streffler decides to kick a field goal here get the freshman
Some more experience kicking at the D2 level.
This will be a 25-yard field goal from the right hash.
Skir to hold, lichens the snap.
Kick is up, and it's good.
The freshman kicker is two for two.
On a PAT and on a field goal.
Dylan Dadario, making a name for himself.
in this Hillsdale Special Teams room
that has seen a little bit of turbulence
over the past year or so.
So things are looking up.
Now there's a rain delay.
Have you ever been in a football game with a rain delay?
I've never been at a football game with a rain delay,
but I was at the Indianapolis 500 one time
when it got delayed.
For context, it starts at noon.
It was delayed until 5 p.m.
It got delayed five hours, but go ahead.
It's a long time to wait.
Please leave the stadium.
You got to go into the bleachers.
Well, they wanted you to leave the stadium and go to like a gym, but we didn't do that.
And all we could do during the first quarter of being up in the nosebleeds was look at,
what do you think we're looking at?
We're looking at the big Jumbotron and just looking at all the students in the student section having a grandhold time.
And it's like, I'm just stuck up here.
What are we doing?
The man with the purple wrist, arguing at the EMTs.
What are we doing, man?
We're like, it's a bunch of old people up there.
This is no fun.
Yeah.
So we got, you know what?
We're going to use this.
We're going to use this to our weather delay to our advantage.
Jordan Westrich to kick it away for the Chargers.
It's going to land in the end zone.
And Frank said, we got to leave.
We're done.
I'm done.
We're leaving.
He wanted to go back.
I'm saying I'm not leaving that perfect parking spot.
He wanted to come back to the Dale?
He wanted to leave.
Oh, wow.
Because he was, he was fed.
up. A lot of some of the people, some people were standing right in front of you.
Yeah.
It's really standing in a football game.
Like when you're up there, I think that's like sitting, like he should be sitting, you know?
I got sure.
You know what I mean?
Like I don't want to stand up.
The person behind me has to stand up.
It's like some 90-year-old guy.
I don't want him uncomfortable.
But yeah, football etiquette, man.
Well, we'll continue the Notre Dame saga.
Fourth, or not four, four minutes left in the four.
third quarter.
Incomplete patcher from pass.
Oh my goodness.
From Perch.
I'm fumbling right now.
Sorry, folks.
Jacob Vance got a hand on it.
Harrison Burch with an incomplete pass in the gun.
He's looking left.
It falls incomplete.
Jacob Vance almost had a house call there on a pick six.
Yeah, there was a lot of green in front of him.
But just able to get his right hand on it,
it's still a pass deflection, though.
So second down in 10, ball.
at the Panther 25.
Hillsdale, 31, Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
Birch in the gun, McCray to his left.
Bunch formation to the far side.
Birch, back to pass, looking, pump-fakes.
Moving up in the pocket, he's going to scamper,
has to move to the 30, 35, 40, moves out of bounds
near the 41-yard line, and moves to chains for the Panthers.
Hudson Jones was there for the Chargers in hot pursuit.
Red Shirt Senior.
Transfer from Eastern Carolina.
Western Carolina.
Transfer from Western Carolina.
FCS School.
Right around Charlotte.
Maybe an hour outside of Charlotte.
Pretty good program they got down there.
Hudson himself a pretty good athlete.
Four-time state champion wrestler at Charlotte Christian.
Yeah.
Four times.
Four times at Charlotte Christian.
First down and ten for Birch.
Sorry to catch you off.
first out in 10 for birch and
Kentucky Wesleyan offense ball thrown
45 birch back to pass
flag on the field
and we got Ryan Ruddy in the game
we're keeping a close eye
on sophomore Ryan Ruddy
we'll see what he can do
but back to the South Bend thing
Frank member he didn't want to go
or he didn't want to stay
the problem was that the lower level part of the stadium, it doesn't connect with each other.
So you can't move throughout.
But you can move through the upper level where the nosebleeds are.
And we f*** this out for 30 minutes.
Skeaned.
Okay.
First and 15 for Kentucky Wesleyan.
Oh, high looping throw caught by Brogan, the 35-yard line.
And.
Wowsers gets all the way down to the Charger 32 a nice loop and throw there from from Birch
Brogan's had two really good catches so far so now it brings up fresh set of downs for the Panther offense
they're inside Charger territory at the Hillsdale 32 birch in the gun mccray behind him
two receivers to the far side one to the near birch going long he's got Brogan down the field
He was double covered a little seam route right in between of that cover two defense and falls incomplete for the junior receiver
So we figured out you can move throughout the top most part of the stadium and I'm thinking myself okay we have to go
We have to go section A B and we finally find it like where's the student section? Because when when they're
They get back on this, go when they let us back in.
We need to be in the student section.
We're going to get in the student section.
We're going to use this to our advantage.
And we find the student section.
Funny enough, the one we picked by accident was the exit for the student section that was ground, like, near the field.
It was the student section.
It was the most exposed, audacious, greedy option.
But we didn't know.
So now we're sitting in line, kind of looking around.
I'm trying to think to myself, like, I don't go here.
They're probably going to check student.
How do I look like I'm in Notre Dame?
I don't have any Notre Dame garb.
Pull your rosary out, right?
Yeah, wearing it around my rosary on my neck.
Here.
You know, we're trying to study how they're sitting.
Like, what are they saying?
Turns out they're just normal people.
So we're leaning against this.
the exit.
We sat there for like an hour.
Did you talk to any of them or?
Yeah, we did.
They speak Latin?
No, we studied up.
So now another use of AI is,
you can look up
sophomore dorms, what major buildings
should we go to.
We studied up.
Where do I live, Kavanaugh,
where? I'm a history major.
I go to Dechio Hall.
Just to Marchmont
our classroom is
blah.
Oh man,
funny stuff.
Second down in 10 for
the Panthers at the Charger
32.
Birch back to pass.
He's got a man downfield
and it's
incomplete.
A Panther
had it in his hands
at the two.
Ryan Nixon coverage
but it falls incomplete.
So,
you know,
we're sitting there.
We're studying up
and then.
And all of the sudden, they just, just craziness, just people started flying back.
We got to go now.
So we.
Now or never, Frank.
Now or never.
So we get in line.
We get a nice, a nice group.
We get in.
And I'm telling you, the field is right there.
Third down in 10 for the Panthers.
Birch in the backfield, give to McCray flag on the field.
False start.
and boy oh boy was it a beautiful sight so you guys were close enough to storm it i mean there was
we were right there we were four rows from from the wall from the wall wow and then the NBC camera
started it's it hangs just it's like on a dongle and it just for uh what do you call that thing
the sky cam right yeah yeah and it just came back and four hundreds of times all was doing every celebration in the
buck.
Third down and 15.
Ball at the Charger, 37, Kentucky Wesleyan, trying to cut into this 31-point lead.
Aaron passed from Birch intercepted at the five.
Coast Davis brings it back to the 33-yard line.
So we're in the student section, and that camera made it on the Jumbotron like five times.
I mean, think about where we had come, man.
You come so far.
From unforgotten nosebleed shenanigans to NBC fame.
To NBC fame.
And for our listeners, there is a video of...
So, guys, if I...
It's too bad we don't have video because I could probably put this up on our page of myself and my brother.
And people at Holesdale would know because we wear the same clothes every day.
It's like the Varendier uniform.
We're on TV.
McCurned back to pass.
Low throw to Carico
out on the boundary
and he fights his way to the 41-yard
line. So my question for you
would be how
long, you mentioned that you were on the Jumbotron,
but how long was it before
you found out that you were on NBC?
I mean, was that right when you got there?
No, but I knew that we had a chance
because they filmed that
B-roll constantly.
It's just whether
NBC wants to switch to that look for five seconds.
So I was probably on the B-roll hundreds of times,
but they picked one glorious shot.
If I didn't get on there, I'd have been really sad.
Second down in two for the Chargers.
They're on 41, Gishu, up the middle, and he's stopped.
So it'll be third down in two.
So we made it on there.
Atmosphere was a 3.30 game turned into a night game.
Right.
And the delay happened at a minute 30 left in the second quarter.
So when they came back out, the head ref announced that they would have no break in between the second quarter and the third quarter.
So you just played the last minute 30 of the second quarter and then went right into the third quarter.
And there was like 21 points scored in a minute 30.
Holy smokes.
McCurn had power left.
He gets out to the 46-yard line and that moves to chains.
41 seconds left in the third quarter so not only an entertaining day but a pretty entertaining game very entertaining game we're in the student section for kickoff return interception touchdown from Purdue and then they taunted us I'm saying us because I was you know student for one of them yeah yeah yeah how dare they tell my Irish like that 16 seconds left third quarter hillsdale 31 Kentucky Wesley and nothing McCurnan under center
motion from Ruddy. Play action. McCurnan throws caught by Luke Stanton at the 39-yard line.
Move the chains again into Panther territory. And that's the end of the third quarter.
The third quarter, sir. So now I finally feel like we're a part of it. Like we touched Notre Dame.
You know what I mean?
I felt so distant up in the nosebleed.
Like we weren't a part of it.
We went from, and there was a parent we were sitting next to up in the nosebleed.
They're like, that's my son, that's my son, look at home, he's on NBC.
And I just would have loved to see the look on their faces when they're up there
and they would have seen me two hours later.
And I was just talking to that guy.
So yeah, we came so far, man.
And it was a phenomenal.
day and absolutely
like you said you called it an
Odyssey
truly was an
Odyssey
so who was the
who
who originally sent you the footage
was your mom your dad
I found it
you found it
and you rewatched the game
well
Notre
I'm a data driven guy
so I know this stuff
right
Notre Dame has a deal
with NBC where they can put up
the full
copy of the entire game
on their YouTube
channel so I was just waiting for them to drop that on their YouTube channel Notre Dame Fighting
Irish so once they put the full game on there then it's just like oh easy money you scan through
the YouTube videos see where they were using the sky cam and just watch every it's going to be a hard
cut to the crowd and there's only like 10 of those right I mean process of elimination there you go
yeah I'm on NBC McCurton and pistol give de guiche you running right he's to the 40 makes a cut
he's to the 30 stiff arm at the 25 20
15, 10, 5.
Touchdown for the freshman from Texas.
What a run.
An exclamation point on an outstanding performance today.
And with 14.51 left and the fourth quarter, Hillsdale leads Kentucky Wesleyan, 37 to nothing.
A dominant showing from Hillsdale College.
O line.
The O line showing out.
the Hillsdale offense, really turning things around from last week.
So on to kick the extra point, lichens to snap, skirt a hold, kick is up, and it's no good.
Kicking woes continue, however.
So do the penalties.
There's a flag on the field.
You're going to have to update me with the new kicker name.
Dylan Didario, number 36.
Dillon Dajaro is the new kicker now.
Number 36 out of Granger, Indiana.
So two missed PATs, but two made field field goals from,
no, one field goal made from the freshman.
And that'll make it 37.
lead over Kentucky Wesleyan.
I mean, have you been to Michigan State games, Michigan games?
Any fun little atmospheres that you've gotten to experience?
I've got to be honest with you.
My favorite football atmosphere is small town southeastern Michigan football.
Whiteford High School, Blissfield High School, Britain-Dierfield High School.
Those are some of the best atmospheres I've been in.
I have been
games at
the big house.
I watched them play
Central Michigan one time.
I believe I watched them play
Ohio State there twice.
This Jordan Westridge
kicks the ball off for the Hillsdale Chargers
and they're going to let it roll out of the back
at the end zone.
I've been to the Big House twice
three times, I think.
Once to watch, I believe it's
Western Michigan, not Central Michigan
and then twice for the game.
Ohio State versus Michigan
and it's an electric atmosphere.
It really is.
The big house is a great atmosphere.
I believe that's the only college football stadium,
the one college football stadium that I have been to,
other than...
Are you a Michigan State fan, right?
I'm a Michigan State fan,
but I've never made it up there for a Saturday game.
They weren't worth watching for a little while there,
so I was content to watch them lose on TV.
They are 3-1 now, though, so...
Birch, in the gun.
Kentucky Wesleyan setting up.
shop with their own 25 he's going to scamper out to the 30 make a nice move and slide down to the 39
yard line it's a good job from him been to lucas oil stadium too i just remembered that big 10
championship for a colds game big colts fan oh really you know daniel jones number three in the league
passing yards really turning his career around i'd love to see a career resurrection akin to gino
Smith. I've been a Daniel Jones
truster the whole time.
First down in 10 for the Panther offense
or at their own 37.
Birch in the gun, McCray to his right, give to McCray,
makes a nice move in the hole and hit down
really hit down hard there by Ryan Ruddy at the 42
yard line. Wrapped up by Jacob Vance and Ryan delivered the final blow there.
Dang. He was a
well maybe I shouldn't.
In high school Ryan was a
I mean, you should.
Very hard hitter.
Was you a very, very hard hitter?
And known for at least his first two years for leading with the head.
But he fixed that up and he's a good ball player now.
Birch and Pistol.
Give to McCray another nice move from him.
Evan, no, Neil Likin's in on the stop.
It's going to set up a third down in about five.
Third down in medium.
Ryan Ruddy is a pretty strong guy.
Funny enough, I've been, oh, what's the word?
Not influence, pure pressure into wrestling him outside the library.
Right.
He just attacks me.
I'm trying to get stuff done.
Yeah, I can confirm.
He's strong dude.
Third down in five.
Ball at the Panther 42.
Birch in the gun.
McCradu's left.
Throw across the middle is caught.
Nice move there.
from Ray
and he fights his way down
to the 41-yard line.
Talented move there
from Will Ray
and it's going to move the chains.
McCray Dirt certainly
looks like he has the athleticism. A couple of really
nice moves there but
looks like he's got
excuse me, looks like he's got some
deceptive strength too because he was
dragging a couple of Hillsdale charts.
Chargers there for about five yards to bring up a first down.
First down in 10.
Panthers in Charger territory.
Gives him a craye running right.
He's got the edge to the 40.
Hit out of bounds of the 38-yard line.
Carson Ingram on the stop.
And second down in six for the Panthers.
Yeah, you know, funny enough,
I do not like Michigan State football or Michigan.
I despise them, in fact.
I actually went to a Michigan State game in East Lansing freshman year against Nebraska.
Really?
Yeah, it's a cool stadium.
It's kind of a cool vibe.
Birch, in the gun.
McCradee who's left, looking right, looking left, now right, rolls out, got a man downfield, incomplete, overthrown.
His receiver in the end zone, it's going to make it a fourth down.
I'm curious if you've ever been to the big house.
You've ever been to Michigan Stadium?
You don't have to like the Wolverines, but I highly suggest to go into a game there sometime.
It's a good atmosphere.
We should go.
Yeah, we should.
That's fine.
We should just bring all the guys.
Maybe Ohio State, Michigan?
I mean, if you can get those tickets.
If tickets aren't a thousand dollars.
Third down in seven for Birch and the Panther offense caught on the outside, but tackled there.
Not by Ryan Ruddy, but I believe that's a new face.
Alex Lee on the tap stop, and that's going to make it fourth down and seven.
Panther slow to get up there, so we're going to take an official's timeout.
Go ahead, Ted.
You know, I think we're going to take a time out with them.
We'll be back in 30 minutes.
30 minutes.
30 seconds, 30 seconds.
This is the Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group.
In 1982, a doctor and his wife began an organization in Virginia Beach that has changed
the lives of children all over the world.
Dr. William McGee, a plastic surgeon and his wife, Kathy, volunteered to help children in the
Philippines suffering from one of nature's most debilitated.
facial deformities, cleft lips and palettes.
They soon realized the demand for these corrective surgeries
far exceeded their capabilities.
So they founded Operation Smile,
a medical volunteer association,
bringing together doctors and nurses who travel the world
performing life-changing surgeries on children in 60 countries,
and they do it for free.
This has been The Making of America.
I'm Michael Emerson,
and you can visit us at Jefferson Media Group
Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium. I'm Ted. He's tied. Panthers are driving right now to try to cut into a 37 point Hillsdale lead. 10, 16 left in the ball game. Panthers at the charger four for a second down and goal. Were you watching the Virginia Florida State game last night? So I saw, I was not watching the game, but I saw the highlights this
morning and just an incredible last play there by that defensive back.
Did you see it how fast they rushed the field?
Yeah, it was.
Second down and goal.
Give to McCray up the middle and he stopped at the two.
I mean, the second, the second that defensive back hit the ground with the ball.
The student section was in the end zone.
Another, another very neat place to go to school, apparently, Charlottesville.
Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech's in Blacksburg.
I've heard Virginia UVA is just a hate school.
So now it's third down in goal, 922 left in the ballgame.
Give to McCrae running right, and he's getting tripped up at the 6.
Wow.
So now fourth down in goal, charge your defense trying to fight here for a shutout.
So after a long pass there, Panthers set themselves up nicely from about the 15
to see if they get some points on the board
and the chargers are making a stand
for the second time today
not letting the Panthers make that final push.
Fourth down and four.
Fourth down, we'll see
what Coach Young he's going to do here
and he's going to go for it.
To verge, in the gun, McCray to his left,
two receivers to the near side, one to the far side.
McCray looking right throws incomplete.
Beautiful defense there by, it's like a young inn getting some playing time.
I don't have his number right in front of me.
Number three, Andrew McCarthy, not a youngan.
He's a junior out of Monroe, Michigan.
That's where I hail from, Monroe County, Michigan.
Great defensive play there by Andrew McCarthy, able to stick his hand, knock out the ball.
before the receiver retained possession.
Chargers are back on offense.
So it's turnover on downs.
And we got a new quarterback in the game.
Eli Boyce checks in to get some playing times
at the helm of the charger offense.
And a little quarterback power left.
Gained five yards there.
It's going to set up second down and medium.
going to get some new faces in the game that we probably haven't seen on a varsity field with a
charger uniform on. So that will be neat to see. They're throwing some, looks like some
phone footballs in the crowd. You need to get one of those up here. I would really like one to be
up thrown up here. So we'll see if someone comes over here. But in the meantime, Tetler.
Up the middle and he gets near a first down at the 21 and yes, the far side judge says move the chains.
First down for them, fresh set of downs at the 20.
Oh my goodness, no, 17-yard line.
That's a first down for the Chargers.
Boyce in pistol, Tetler in the backfield with him.
Schmidt to the far side.
And it's a give to Tetler up the middle and he gets nowhere.
Please bear with me, folks.
There is a whole new group of guys in the ball game that I have no idea who they are.
See Joe Smith out there, number eight, took his fifth year at the exhortation of the coaches.
Really wanted to go to grad school.
They said stick around one more.
year. We'll get you some touches.
They'll have another year in the pads.
So he made it happen. Where was he going to grad school?
That I don't know. That I don't know.
Boyce in the gun.
Tetler in the backfield with him.
Boyce rolls right. Makes a nice move.
Another cut tripped up at the 23 yard line, but two flags on the field now.
Really nice explosive move from him.
My goodness.
And quick decision making, too.
A young sophomore, showing some moves.
Defensive end in the backfield, one pump fake, one move, and turned up field.
No need to stay back there when the defense is closing in and try to make some sort of wild pass on first down.
Just pick up what you can.
And he picked up a first down.
So first down for the Chargers.
We'll see what the penalty is.
Cody
10-yard penalty
from the end of the run
all the next
since a first down
for the chargers
brings them all the way out
to the
34-yard line
first down in 10
620 left in the ball game
Hillsdale 37 rather
Kentucky Wesleyan
nothing
boys in the gun
Tettler to his right
Motion from Metzger, fake the jet sweep, voice up the middle, he gets nowhere.
Back to the line of scrimmage, maybe.
Probably lost one on the play.
You'd love to see the sort of showing we got from the Hillsdale alumni today.
I know we've mentioned it a couple of times, but homecoming week is a good place,
good time to be a Hillsdale College Charger.
A lot of families enjoying themselves in the audience today.
A lot of free food.
A lot of free food for the students there.
I'm a starving boy.
Mamasaga Burger Paddies
after so many of them
it's just a lot to handle
Boyce back to pass
he's got a man down field
falls incomplete intended for Joe Schmidt at midfield
and that's going to bring up a third down
and 11 Smith wanted a penalty
but the ball looked uncatchable I think
and yep
third down and 11 for the Chargers
Third down and long.
Boyce, in the gun.
Teller 2 is right.
Bunch formation to the nearest side.
Boyce, back to pass, looking, looking throws.
Caught.
CD 80.
Caught by Colin Davis at the 46-yard line.
Athletic play from the red shirt sophomore out of Leno way,
Michigan, right? Adrian.
Runaway Christian High School.
Should have known that.
First down for the Chargers.
Nice play from him.
449 left in the ballgame and counting.
Hillsdale, 37, Kentucky Wesley and nothing.
Boyce under center.
Motion from Moulton.
Tetler in the backfield.
To give the Tetler up the middle, makes a nice move,
and scurries out to the 46.
yard line.
Gaines nine on the
drop down by number plusy Mason

Mason Bell on the tackle.
Second down in short for the charges.
Panther 44

As things start to wind down here,
Hillsdale looking to face
Tiffin in a 4 p.m. matchup next week.
Tiffin is also 1 and 2.
Second down and 1 for the Chargers.
At the Panther 44.
Boy, Sunder.
center give the teller running right he stopped at the 45 loses a yard tiff that's in a way
game correct that game will be at tiffin at 4 p.m. next saturday tiffin and hills to have a good
rivalry going a good game last year that i think ended in a charger loss but a good game
nonetheless.
This year they're looking to reverse that outcome.
So now it's a third down and two.
Ball at the Panther 45.
Voice Under Center.
Tetler in the backfield.
The lone receiver, pitch back to Tatler.
He's got a burstle speed.
He's still at 35, 30, 25, 20.
Tackled at the 17-yard line, nearly broke three for six.
And the crowd's loving it there.
First down, Chargers.
The baseball game.
guys are out on the field throwing
Do they have
What are they playing anybody over there?
They just having some fun in the sun?
They look like they're in uniforms.
I do think they have
They have an alumni game.
Interesting.
Courtesy C.J. Yerrian.
The esteemed
DJ of the Frank Muddywater
Stadium.
Give to Tettler running left.
Hit down at the 11-yard
line.
Now DJ, that's a very important job.
You need to have some good songs.
I'm trying to think of a...
What's Ted Ferringer's walkout song?
What's Ted Ferring's...
Bam, bam.
What's that called?
I think he's shipping off the Boston.
Shipping off the Boston.
You know, since I'm a big,
just a big Notre Dame guy after last weekend.
Big convert.
Bam-bant.
Boyce, under center.
Riffle in the backfield.
First down at 10 at the 15.
Riffel running left.
Down to the 12.
No, eight,
eight-yard line, seven-yard line.
Two minutes left, folks.
Two minutes left with Ted and Ty,
and then you have to take a break for two weeks.
Which, what are you doing for fall break?
Fall break, I got a couple plans.
all up in the air.
On, interestingly enough, on Wednesday of Fall Break,
I will be directing the short film that I wrote and am also producing.
That will be coming out sometime in March.
What's more fun about that is I just signed on a singer to sing.
Wait, yeah, I know that this, yeah, he's a decent singer,
but what I'm at,
What I'm wondering is
I will be probably headed either to Nashville or Washington, D.C.
To film it?
No, no, after we film.
It'll be filmed in Hillsdale.
Now I'm just going to take a trip to...
Just by yourself?
I got a couple friends from home and then a roommate
who have been talking about a return to D.C.
I was in D.C. over the summer.
Mike get back down there to see some friends.
Oh, that's nice.
Take a look at D.C. in the fall.
Man, I'd like to go to D.C.
Want to tag along?
Who's with, the roommate, like the guys you know, do they go to school in D.C. or something?
No, no, they go to school here.
Oh.
Jacob Waldvogel, Hillsdale Native will be our co-pilot on that trip.
Oh, I see.
First down in 10 for the Chargers, ball at the Panther 15.
They're in the red zone, folks.
Boyce in the gun, Riffel 2 is left, power left.
He's at the 10, makes a cut at the 5.
Touchdown.
Boyce.
A little sally from him
and that's going to make it 43.
Hillsdale, Kentucky Wesleyan, nothing.
Good to see the young guys.
Getting some good experience.
Dario to attempt the extra point.
Ryan Skuro to hold.
Neil Likens to Snap.
Snap, good.
Good, kick is up, and it's good.
Hillsdale, 44.
Kentucky Wesley and nothing.

Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium on the beautiful campus of Hillsdale College.
These tie.
Chargers are going to come away with a homecoming victory.
They're up on Kentucky Wesleyan, 44 to 0.
Harrison Birch and the Kentucky Wesleyan offense is back on the field to try to spoil a shutout for this Hillsdale defense.
High throw to the nearest side incomplete.
There's protest flag and, uh,
Nope, the ref says no, sir.
So now second down.
Second down in 10.
Panthers at their own nine.
There's one surefire way to tell an absolute route in football.
And it happens a lot in high school.
And the coaches leave the box before the game is out.
you know things are things are pretty dire and the hillsville college coaches up in the box just left so
looking to ride this one out from the sideline I guess third down and 10 for the Panthers
they're at their own nine perch in the gun mccray to his right three receivers to the far side
Brogan to the near side.
Birch back to pass, throws, caught.
It tackled at the 16-yard line, short of the first down.
You better believe Kentucky Wesleyan's going to go for it.
And in these last couple drives here when Hillsdale,
the chargers have been letting their young guys get some playing time.
Pretty good demonstration of camaraderie here for the alumni.
the old guys all cheering on the young guys
who are finally getting a chance to play some.
Fourth down in two.
Ball at the Panther, 17.
Birch in the gun, McRae, 2 is right,
54 seconds left in the ball game.
Steps up in the pocket and
stops short of the first down,
