Starting point is 00:00:02 The following is a presentation of WRFH sports. Game day is here. The players are ready. The fans are ready. This is Charger football. Ruddy's standing at his own 35. He's initially hit up the 35. He's got room.
Starting point is 00:00:21 He's going to go. He's a 50. One man to defeat. See you later. Touchdown Chargers. Cook back to pass. He's back to the backfield. Badger again.
Starting point is 00:00:32 Badger on the sack, receives it at the charger. Ten, he has some room and a burst of speed. Make the kick or miss at the 15, 30, 20, 15, 10. Touchdown Chargers. McCurn and in the gun. It's not a give. It's not a give. It's not thrown to Rennie.
Starting point is 00:00:48 It's caught at the 45. He's to the 40. 35, 30, 20, 10, 5 touchdown. Chargers. Hillsdale Charger football on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM starts now. Welcome in to Frank Muddywater Stadium on the beautiful campus of Hillsdale College.
Starting point is 00:01:08 I'm Ted Ferringer alongside me's Carson Brower on this beautiful Saturday afternoon for the second week of GMAC play for the Hillsdale College Chargers as the Thomas More Saints come to town. Last week, Hillsdale with a heartbreaking loss to the 20th ranked. Northwood University G-MAC foe. They lost 7 to 10 with a final kick that would have tied it up by Dylan Didario. 37-yard kick was blocked, and the Chargers are now 2-1 on the year, looking to improve the 3-0 at home. Now, this matchup with Thomas Moore. The Saints are 0-3.
Starting point is 00:02:02 But they've put up a fight. They played Dayton. They played Tiffin. And they played Ferris State. So they've played some top teams across the country. And their defense has put up a great fight. Their offense, however, is lacking production dead last in the GMAC. Now, the Hillsdale College Charger offense is not lacking in that department.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Carson, who's your impact player for this Charger offense? Yeah, I'm looking at Tuck Carrico, who leads the GMAC in touchdown receptions, and there's a reason for that. All the eyes of the defense are on Shay Ruddy, dragging defenders away, open up big opportunities for Tuck Carico to go have a big game today. So we will see if the Chargers can bounce back from last week's loss. Now, folks, you're probably wondering who's the new voice, who's the new color and commentator for me in the booth this afternoon? Carson Brower, sophomore studying rhetoric and media from Texas. And unfortunately for him, he is calling a game with a Nebraska fan, and he's a Michigan State football fan. So both of our teams play today at 5 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:03:17 So that will be a rather interesting one to watch. So here we go. Thomas Moore to kick this one away. The Chargers won the toss, elected to receive. And who's back deep to receive? but Shea Ruddy standing at his own five. One of the top G-Mack special teamers in the land, and it's going to be a short pooch kick, fielded at the 32,
Starting point is 00:03:42 and then thrown by Jonathan Metzger to Ruddy, and it's going to roll out of bounds at the 26-yard line. Coach Ryan Stokes trying to put in some wrinkles so that Shea Ruddy can get some touches here after teams have been kicking it away from him. And if that throw by Metzger, would have been caught by Ruddy, I think that would have been a touchdown.
Starting point is 00:04:05 It looked like he had a whole lot of green grass ahead of him, and really a great play. As you mentioned, we've seen them kicking away from Shea Ruddy as recently. Such a dangerous return man. First down in 10 for the Chargers. They're at their own 26. Boyce in the gun, Inkeshoe 2 is right.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Two receivers to the far side. One to the near. Boyce gives you and Kishu running left. He's to the 25. He makes a nice move. He's to the 35. And out across midfield and a late hit on the far side by a Thomas Moore cornerback. And that's going to add more to the explosive run for the sophomore from Texas.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Flags fly as Bendig issue breaks across half field. Good explosive run hitting the gap hard. Couple broken tackles. And an extra 15 yards is a reward for that hard run. Defense number two league hit out of bounds. 15-yard belly, push-out. So instead of a 15-yard run, make that a 30-yard run net there. In Gishu is showing some nice explosiveness.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Last week, he was a bit banged up with his ankle, but no problems on that run. Now we have some confusion where the ball is to be spotted. And now it's going to be at the Thomas Moore 37-yard line. So Eli Boyce in it, quarterback for the Chargers. Usually Colin McCurton would get the call to start the games, but the junior from Holland, Michigan with the start today. Play action, McCurnan, looking right or check that voice rather. It's caught by Stanton at the 29-yard line.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Boyce really brings a nice dual threat to the quarterback position. Definitely a better runner than McCurton. and with a nice throw there. Second down and four for the Chargers. They're at the Thomas Moore, 31. 14 minutes left in the first quarter. Boyce in the gun, Haber to his left, two receivers to the far side. Ruddy to the near.
Starting point is 00:06:14 It's 1v1 with Ruddy down here on the near side. Boyce, quarterback power all the way, running right across the 30, down inside the 20. Nice cut there from Boyce, up the field and inside the 20 yards. line. We're seeing a lot of aspects of the charger offense right off the bat. Explosive run from Benegissue followed up by a good play, good quick rollout play to get Boyce on the move. And then boys using his legs to scramble for the first down and set up the chargers right on the edge of the red zone. First down in 10 for the chargers are at the St. 20. Boys in the gun and Gisha to his left. Carrico to the nearest side. Now he motions to the far and it's a fake to Carico quarterback. Keep
Starting point is 00:06:59 And Boyce is going to get down to the 16-yard line. Some more eye candy there getting their athletes. Ruddy, Carico, Stanton, pre-snap motions to try to distract that linebacker core of Thomas Moore. So Colin Davis to check in for the Chargers, Tuck Carrico to check out. There's a huddle for Hillsdale at their own 20. Now they break Stanton and Ruddy to the far side. Boyce in the gun and Gishu to his right, second down and six. Chargers at the Thomas More 16. Boyce back to pass, looking left. Now back to the right. He's got a wide open man down the field and a touchdown for the Chargers. It's Andrew Kinesney.
Starting point is 00:07:43 However, there's a penalty marker lying at the 20-yard line. Flags down in the area you'd expect to see holding, but maybe something unusual in the touchdown stands for the Hillsdale Chargers. Chop lock offense, number 20 and 19. Number 71 to 15-yard penalty. Second down. An unfortunate penalty there is going to negate the six points on the board for the Chargers and push Hillsdale all the way back to the Thomas More 31. Those are mistakes you cannot concede this early in the ball game
Starting point is 00:08:23 as the Chargers have always at home so far started off games. Lightning Quick. on the offensive side of the ball. So here we go. Second down in 21, Boyce in the gun. Hees you to his left, two receivers to the far side, one to the nearer. Play action, boys, rolls out, caught by Metzger at the 25,
Starting point is 00:08:41 and he gets down to the 20. Another flag lying down on the field. Looks like Andrew Kinesny and a defensive end from Thomas Moore got into a bit of a tussle at the 40. Penalty marker at the 30-yard line. It's just going to go against Thomas Moore. Number 90 of the defense, the 15. And so now one side concedes a penalty and then the other side concedes a penalty.
Starting point is 00:09:06 So we're just trading off on penalty markers so far. And Hillsdale's back where they started basically at the Thomas Moore 11. This time, though, they got a first down, first and 10 from the 11. A couple costly mistakes from each team, but Hillsdale ends up on the better end of it. So Hillsdale slowing down the tempo a bit. Now they break the huddle. in the gun. Vermeulen to his right. Metzger to the nearest side, stand to the far. First down in 10 for the chargers at the Thomas More 11. Quarterback run to the right.
Starting point is 00:09:40 And Boyce gets inside the 10-yard line. Boy, oh, boy, are they calling a lot of quarterback power to the right running in between that right tackle and right guard, and they're getting some good push there. That's like the third quarterback power we've seen. They've been successful so far, though. I think the shortest gains men four, and five yards is a pretty significant yardage to get on first down. Second down and six for Hillsdale. They're at the Thomas Moore, 7, Hillsdale, nothing. Thomas Moore nothing. 1133 left in the first quarter.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Chargers driving, Boyce in the gun. It's a gift of Ruddy running right. He makes a move, and down inside the five. A almost touchdown run there. from Shea Ruddy, but a really good tackle there from the Thomas Moore secondary. Like you said, stellar open field tackle. Shea Ruddy is so hard to bring down. So great job by that Thomas Moore cornerback to save a touchdown probably.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Shea Ruddy putting that 4-4 speed on display there. So now it's third down in five for the chargers. We're at the Thomas Moore 6. Boyce back to pass, looking towards Ingeishu in the flat. caught by Ingeishu touchdown. Chargers. And Hillsdale draws first blood against Thomas Moore. Took two times to get into the end zone there. But great job of voice finding Nguishu in the flat.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Just able to turn the corner, explode upfield, and get right inside that right pylon. And Hillsdale overcomes a tough chop block penalty. and now Dylan Didario on the field to make this a seven-point game. Snap, good, hold good, kick is up, and kick is good. Hillsdale, 7, Thomas Moore, nothing. 10.45 left first quarter. You're listening to Charger football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale,
Starting point is 00:11:53 101.7. You're listening to The Making of America. I'm Michael Emerson. In the 1860s, Alexander II of Russia needed money, so he reached out to America's Secretary of State, William Seward, and offered to sell him a land we now call Alaska. Andrew Jackson was president at the time, and along with Secretary Seward agreed to the purchase in 1867
Starting point is 00:12:38 for $7.2 million, or $130 million in today's country. Any question as to whether it was a good buy or not was put to rest in 1896 when billions in gold were discovered, followed by billions more in oil and mineral reserves. Alaska became America's 49th state on the 3rd of January, 1959. Be sure to follow our new Making of America podcast on Apple, Spotify, and your favorite podcast player. Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium on this beautiful Saturday afternoon in Hillsdale, Michigan. I'm Ted Ferringer alongside me's Carson Brower. Hillsdale leads Thomas Moore, 7 to nothing. 10.40 left in the first quarter.
Starting point is 00:13:30 And now we will see the first drive of this Thomas Moore offense. They're going to try to respond to what really was just a day. dominant offensive drive from the Charger offense. Really kind of did exactly what they wanted to do on that first drive, grinding all the way down the field, eventually punching it in for that touchdown. So here we go. Play action for Kessler, and it's caught by Ben Faye out in the flat, and that's a nice little gain on first down out to the 21-yard line.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Nice little acrobatic catch from Ben Faye there. May note that they're only at the 21-yard line. And on that kickoff coverage, Hillsdale Chargers did a great job getting downhill, exploiting the gaps. First man there made the tackle, so Thomas Moore starting this drive pinned back in their own territory. Chesser, in the gun. Williams, two is right, one receiver to the nearest side, one of the far, second down in five. It's a give to Williams, and he stopped at the line of scrimmage to set up a third down in medium. Great fill there by Gavin Chenevee.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Lee who's filling in for an injured Jacob Vance. Lee had a phenomenal game last week for the Charger defense at Northwood. I read the stat line. It was 10 or 11 tackles. Just incredible. Very, very dominant game. They're down in five for Thomas Moore. They're at the Charger 22.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Check that. They're at the Thomas Moore 22. It's a throw out to the far side and it's caught for first. out of the 30-yard line. Ryan Nixie in on the tackle, but, man, oh man, nice pitch and catch there from Thomas Moore offense. Ben Chesser, the quarterback for Thomas Moore, is only a sophomore, 6-1-195 pounds, and he stood in well there. First down at 10 for Thomas Moore at their own 31. Give to Williams running right, and he's out across the 40-yard line.
Starting point is 00:15:38 A couple broken tackles, and Williams explodes just for another first down. A couple positive plays from this Thomas Moore offense. I'm curious to see what they can get going in their game. That was a run there from Martavius Smith, rather. They checked Williams out and Smith in the game, and he showed some nice explosiveness on that run there. So first down in 10 for Thomas Moore. They're at their own 42, 826 left in the first quarter. One receiver to the near side, two to the far.
Starting point is 00:16:07 Hard count here from Thomas Moore. Now Chesser. Give to Smith, running left. Nice burst to speed from him before he's hit down by Cost Davis at the 49-yard line. Tough hitting there from Davis, fifth year senior for the chargers. And that veteran secondary didn't really wrap up.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Just kind of hit him with a hit stick. It was effective, though. Big hit. Runner fell forward, but you could hear that. Boom, all the way from up here in the box. But a nice run there from Smith. Second down and four for Thomas Moore. They're at their own 48.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Chester in the gun. Smith to his left. Two receivers to the far side. One to the near. Play action, Chessor. Looking right. He sacked in the back field. Luke Panola.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Drake Badger. Neil Likens in on that sack. And it's a third down and long. Pocket really just collapsed right there on the quarterback Ben Chessor. Three chargers getting home on that sack. One of my favorite players on this charger defense is Luke Panola. The sophomore has a spectacular game. It seems every week, week in, week out.
Starting point is 00:17:22 And he was in on the sack there. Third down in nine for Thomas Moore. They're at their own 43. Chester back to pass. He's getting pressure from Biennick. Throw to Smith out in the flat. And it's incomplete. Colin Morrow.
Starting point is 00:17:34 in on the force in completion, but there's a penalty marker lying at the Thomas 435. We will assume that's a holding call as that pocket was collapsing with pressure from Evan Beannick. But we'll see what the call is. It looks like the referees on the field are actually calling a completion and then a fumble recovered by the charger defense, which could be a huge momentum shift instead of getting pinned back. shift on the offense. That was declined. Holding number 58 on the offense.
Starting point is 00:18:13 That's that he was also declined. Wow. Wow. The referee gets fumble recovered by Hillshill. Wow. What a call there. The Charger defense. I don't know if Smith for Thomas
Starting point is 00:18:27 Moore had full control of that football, but the referees on the field believe that was a fumble. Wowsers. So Hillsdale's going to get beautiful field position to start their second drive of the game at the Thomas Moore 40. We have a new quarterback in the game now for Hillsdale. It's Colin McCurnan.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Hillsdale 7, Thomas Moore, nothing. First down in 10 for the Chargers. McCurnan, back to pass. Looking towards Kinesne, caught by the senior, and he gets down to the 30-yard line. And now for a first down, little RPO read there from McCurton. And he slipped it in to Kinesni behind that. Linebacker core of Thomas Moore. Quick little pitching catch there.
Starting point is 00:19:12 Great run from Kinesny after the catch. Sets Hillsdale up at the 30-yard line, already in field goal range. Let's see if they can punch one in for the touchdown real quick. First down in 10 for the chargers. They're at the Thomas Moore, 29. McCurnin and the gun in Gishu to his right. Ruddy to the nearest side. Now Kerikow motions from left to right.
Starting point is 00:19:32 McCurnan rolls out, looking towards Ruddy, and it's caught by Ruddy at the 12. And he's going to get wrestled out of bounds at the 10-yard line. And that's the first grab for the phenom senior, who was nominated for the All-State Good Works team, known for his great volunteer work in the community. So that will involve a ceremony at the All-State Sugar Bowl in January. So that's neat. I tried to ask if he had any extra tickets so he could bring me along.
Starting point is 00:20:11 He does not, unfortunately. First down to 10 for the charges of Thomas Moore 11. Motion from Ruddy from left to right. McCurnan's going to keep it. Burst to speed, steam, and a touchdown for the Chargers. Quarterback run for the senior from Brighton. And Hillsdale leads Thomas Moore, 13 to nothing. Great piece of running there from McCurman.
Starting point is 00:20:35 I think everyone's eyes, including my eyes. I own went to Shea Ruddy motioning across the backfield. McCurnan takes advantage of the lacking defense, sees a hole, runs over a defender right at the goal line. Touchdown Chargers. So, Tadario on to kick the extra point. Scurro to hold, Davis to snap. Good hold, good snap. Kick his up, and it's good.
Starting point is 00:20:59 Hillsdale 14. Thomas Ford, nothing. You're listening to Charge Your Football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale. Hillsdale yet again returns triumphant in the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Awards. Our congratulations go out to all of our first place winners. Starting point is 00:21:35 Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Hey kid, what's you doing over there? Me? I I'm listening to Radio Free Hillsdale. You're what? Don't you know? All the cool kids listen to Radio Free Hillsdale. Oh. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. And that makes you a cool kid.
Starting point is 00:22:08 Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium on the campus of Hillsdale College. I'm Ted Ferringer alongside Nees Carson Brower. Hillsdale leads Thomas Moore 14 to nothing. as Dylan Didario is going to kick this one away, and it's a touchback for the Chargers. So on comes Ben Chesser in company for this Thomas More offense to try to respond to a dominant Hillsdale offense and defense. It's Charger dominance on all phases of the game so far, so we'll see if, Thomas Moore can try to get back into this one. First down in 10 for Thomas Moore.
Starting point is 00:22:53 They're at their own 25. Chesser in the gun. Williams, two is left. Two receivers to the near side. One to the far. Chesser, up to the line. Now he's back again. Motion from Faye from left to right.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Give to Williams running right. And he's going to get hit down at the 26-yard line. So a gain of one for Thomas Moore. really just a dominant start all around for this charger football team. We had one passing touchdown, one rushing touchdown, one recovered fumble. Thomas Moore really needs to get something going on this drive if you want to see this game go anywhere.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Second down in 10 for the Saints. They're at their own 25. Chester in the gun. Williams to his right. Three receivers to the near side. One to the far. It's intended for a target out in the flat and it's caught to the 30-yard line. And Layton Scott in on the tackle is going to set up a third down in five. Nice acrobatic catch there from Thomas Moore's J.T. Cooper. But third down and you can hear Frank Muddywater Stadium getting a little loud below us. Third down in five for the Saints.
Starting point is 00:24:12 They're at their own 30. Chess are in the gun. Williams 2 is right. Blitz shown from Lee. Chester, back to pass, and the ball falls incomplete. But Layton Scott is going to be called for pass interference, penalty marker lying in midfield. Can already see the Thomas Moore offense starting to walk down the field and the official signaling for... Defense number 29 to 15-yard penalty, pushout.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Defensive pass interference. Cornerback just really didn't get his head around there. Pretty blanket defense. Just a great throw. Force, quarterback to make a play. Receiver went up and got called for the penalty.
Starting point is 00:24:59 So first down in 10 for Thomas Moore. They're at the Hillsdale. Check that. They're at the St. 45. Chester in the gun, Williams to his right. It's a quarterback keep to the right.
Starting point is 00:25:12 And Pinala is going to bring them down at the 49-yard line. Red pretty well there by the Hillsdale Charger Defense. A little fake handoff, but body swarmed to Ben Chester as he pulled that down for the quarterback draw. And so now Thomas Moore is taking their time here for the second down in six. They're at the St. Forty-nine, three-45 left in the first quarter. Hillsdale 14. Thomas More, nothing. and Chester in the gun.
Starting point is 00:25:46 Williams to his left. One receiver to the far side, one of the near. Blitz shown from Panola to give to Williams, and he's brought down at midfield by Drake Badger. And that's going to bring up a third down in about four. Neil Likens checks out for this charger defense. And Jirogi checks in. The phenom.
Starting point is 00:26:14 phenomenal sophomore for this Hillsdale defense at that defensive end position. Well, see if you can make an impact here. Chesser in the gun, Williams to his left, motions out from Faye. Chesser, back to pass, nearly sacked. Going to try to get a first down when he's brought down by Luke Panola. After a 42-yard line. And the native of Sionsville, Indiana, says no sir on that play. And there are two yards short of.
Starting point is 00:26:44 of a first down is this Thomas Moore offense. So we'll see if they're going to go for it. Great open field tackle there. It looked like Ben Chester had room to get that first down. But Luke Pinola and Colin Moorra, Morrow together, got there, made the play, made the tackle. Bringing up a big fourth down for this Thomas More Saints offense. So here we go, fourth down in one for this Thomas More offense.
Starting point is 00:27:10 The Saints are at the Charger 46. Three receivers to the far side. It's he give to Williams. He's going to try to get the first down, and he stopped short. Cost Davis and Luke Panola forced a turnover on downs. Fantastic defense there from the Chargers. Two great open field tackles right in a row. Getting that ball back to the Charger offense with good field position,
Starting point is 00:27:35 starting to strive at their own 46. Luke Panola made the deciding tackle on 30. down and fourth down. The junior from Zinesville, Indiana, is quickly becoming the foundation of this charger defense. First down and 10 for Hillsdale at their own 46. Eli Boyce back in the game at quarterback, Hayward
Starting point is 00:27:59 to his left. It's a fake pitch out to Hayward and Boyce is going to get out to the 49-yard line. So a gain of about three, but there's a penalty marker at the 48. Offside defense number 93. Light up in the neutral zone. The five-yard penalty. And that is going to put the Chargers in Thomas Moore territory at the St.
Starting point is 00:28:33 49, Hillsdale, taking their time a bit now. 152 left in the first quarter. Hillsdale 14. Thomas Moore, nothing. and voice in the gun. Hayward 2 is right. Bunch formation to the far side. It's given to Hayward running left.
Starting point is 00:28:49 And he's immediately hit down at the line of scrimmage. Nothing doing there on that run left. Whole line shifted, but Thomas Moore moved with him. Hayward brought down for no gain. Second down in five for Hillsdale. And with 120 left in the first quarter, who's going to look to bleed this one out. Boyce in the gun,
Starting point is 00:29:18 and Gishu, who is right, second down in five for Hillsdale, at the St. 49. Ruddy to the near side. Boyce looking to the far side across the middle, intended for Stanton, and that ball falls incomplete.
Starting point is 00:29:36 We've only seen one ball thrown Shay Ruddy's way early in this game, and it looks like they're rolling a safety over the top of almost every one of his routes. So something to keep an eye on for sure is how drawing two defenders over to Shea Reddy's side should be able to open up some holes from some of these other receivers. Third down in five. One minute left in the first quarter. Boyce in the gun and Gishu to his left, ready to the far side.
Starting point is 00:30:04 That's good to the near. Boyce rolling out, looking, looking, and he's going to run for the first. down and it looks like he got it all the way down to the 41 yard line and move the chains for this charger offense. Great run there from Eli Boyce to pick up that first down. Quarterbacks doing it with his legs, running backs doing it with his legs really shows you why the Hillsdale Chargers have the number one rush offense in the GMAC averaging like 248.3 yards per game.
Starting point is 00:30:41 First down in 10 for the Chargers at the St. 41, Boyce in the Gun, motion from Rabido from left to right, give to Ingechu running right, and Ingeishu fights down inside the 40-yard line. And that'll set up a second down in medium. Really well done there from this charger offensive line so far as this first quarter winds down to a close. Hillsdale College 14 Thomas Moore nothing

Starting point is 00:32:57 Boyce, back to pass. It's the second down in eight for the Chargers, caught by Kinesny out in the flat, and he's going to lunge forward for a first down out to the 30-yard line. Great pitch and catch there from the Chargers as they flipped the field, picking right back where they left. Off at the end of the first quarter. positive gain first and 10 at the Thomas Moore 30 yard line
Starting point is 00:33:19 first down in 10 for Hillsdale they're at the Thomas Moore 30 they're huddling now at their saint 35 now they break the huddle Stanton and Carricko to the far side Boyce in the gun Vermeulen to his right Ruddy to the near side now Ruddy's going to motion from left to right it's a give to Ruddy
Starting point is 00:33:39 running right he's to the 30 and hit back rather emphatically there at the line of scrimmage and a great play from that Thomas Moore secondary. Number one, Toto Luani getting off his block and knocking Ruddy back for no gain. Rare sight to see for this charger offense. We've got a plethora of substitutions for this charger offense. Will Simpson, the freshman from Dexter, Michigan checks into the game. Colin Davis, the senior, checks out. Boyce in the gun, Ingeu to his right, second down in 10 for the Chargers at the Thomas More 30.
Starting point is 00:34:19 Boyce, back to pass. Looking across the middle, he's got Sipson. Touchdown, Chargers. A beautiful throw there from Eli Boyce to the freshman from Dexter, Michigan. Hillsdale, 20. Thomas Moore, nothing. What a perfectly placed ball right over there, layer. layering it over the linebackers, dropping it in below the safety,
Starting point is 00:34:44 and then the tight end just does the rest. That's a really impressive throw there from the junior from Holland, Michigan, with it looked like cover two as Dylan Dadario on to kick the extra point to make it 21 to nothing. He'll still leads Thomas Warren. It had to go over the linebacker core, but right in front of the two high, safety look that Thomas Morehead and Eli Boyce dropped it in with perfection. So now in some other scores from around the country, Texas leads, the top-ranked Longhorns, rather lead Tennessee, 7 to 3, 740 left in the first quarter.
Starting point is 00:35:34 So that's kind of the game to keep an eye on as we'll see which team is going to be crowned The real UT by the end of today. 1333 left in the second quarter. Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore, nothing. Dylan Didario to kick this one away for the Chargers. So far, Hillsdale offense is three for three on their first three drives. Four touchdowns. And the defense has not allowed a single point yet from this Thomas.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Thomas Moore offense that has struggled throughout much of the year. But this Thomas Moore defense that has been much hyped is being shown right now. But it looked like, oh my goodness, Thomas Moore with a huge return, Dylan Dadaria with the tackle. But some special team struggles here from the Hillsdale College kickoff unit. And it's going to be a huge return all the way down inside of Hillsdale Territory at the Charger 42. Saints Returner, a couple broken tackles, a couple of huge blocks laid out by that Saints Return team. One hurdle and all he saw was open grass in front of him. Thankfully, Dylan DeDario able to track him down and drag him out of bounce around the Hillsdale 42.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Amari Wash with that kickoff return of 510, 175 pound freshman. out of Detroit, Michigan. So first down in 10 for Thomas Moore. Give to Smith up the middle, and that's going to get nowhere. Loss of one on the play. Second down in 11 for Thomas Moore. And guess who is there again? Name of the day, Luke Pinola, getting in on that tackle for loss.
Starting point is 00:37:29 Man, he has been everywhere today so far. 12.53 left in the second quarter. Chesser in the gun, Smith to his left. Two receivers to the far side, two to the near. Chesser, back to pass. Moves up in the pocket. Now he's going to run, trying to outrun Panola. Panola with the mistackle, and Chester's forced out of balance of the 36-yard line.
Starting point is 00:37:56 And that's a nice run there for the sophomore. Great run there from Chesser. Quick little stutter step to give Panola back on his heels, runs out of bounds, protecting his body, third down in five. third down in five for this Thomas Moore offense. They're at the charger, 37. Chester in the gun, Smith, to his left. Two receivers to the airside, two to the far. Chester, back to pass, looking right.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Now he's going to move up in the pocket, but Drake Badger brings him down. At the 36-yard line, well short of a first down. It's going to be fourth and about four for this Thomas Moore offense. We will see if they're going to stay on. on the field or try to pin the chargers back deep and it looks like they're going to try to go for this one fourth down and four hillsdale's done a great job all game don't think there's been a converted first down from thomas more other than that pass interference penalty great downhill defense let's see what they can do to get a stop on fourth down here we go chester in the gun smiths
Starting point is 00:39:00 two is right motion from fay from right to left thomas more at the hillsdale 36 chester back to past looking across the middle and it falls incomplete. Cost Davis in on the coverage and another turnover on downs for this Thomas Moore offense and the Hillsdale
Starting point is 00:39:20 Chargers and Colin McCurton and company are going to come out and try to add to this 21 to nothing lead midway through the second quarter looking to take a shot there on fourth down Chessor overshoots his receiver.
Starting point is 00:39:39 Looked like we had a diving attempt for an interception, but better off to get the ball at their own 36 instead. First down in 10 for the charge of offense. Threat their own 36. McCurner in the gun and he shoot two is right. It's a screen pass out to Caracote the 35, makes one man miss and hit down at the 42-yard line. We have a bit of a scuffle here on the sideline between Jonathan Metzger
Starting point is 00:40:03 and a cornerback from Thomas Moore, but no flags on the play. Hillsdale's going to have to be careful with any penalties here as the momentum increases for this Chargers side. Been of a lot of penalties so far in this ball game. Second down and four for Hillsdale. They're at their own 42. McCurnin, the gunning.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Heeshoe 2 is right. McCurnin, back to pass, looking across the middle, sitting in the pocket, looking for Davis, and it falls incomplete. Dangerous pass. Davis bracketed down the field. Kind of lucky to see it fall incomplete, but we have a flag down in the backfield in what seems to be what could be a late hit on the quarterback. So the penalty markers picked up second down in four. No, check that. The chain gain is now changed it.
Starting point is 00:40:58 The chain gang. Man, that's a tough word to say. is now changed it to a third down and four for this Hillsdale offense to try to keep this perfect streak alive. So far, they're three for three on touchdowns for three series. Third down and four. McCurn and over the middle, pass complete to Colin Davis at the 49-yard line. And these Hillsdale tight ends are getting some great receptions here. finding soft spots within this linebacker core of Thomas Moore, and enough for a first down. Going back to that last touchdown pass, that's three of the last four passes that have been tossed out to tight ends with the other one being to Tuck Carricko.
Starting point is 00:41:46 First down in 10 for Hillsdale. They're at their own 49 McCurton in the gun, Ruddy and Hayward in the backfield with McCurnin. It's a keep McCurnin up the middle across midfield and all the way down inside of the 45 yards. hard line down to the 42 of Thomas Moore. Great heads up running there from Colin McCurnan. Sees the gap get plugged, takes a cut right back. Pride turns what could have been about a one-yard gain into an eight-yard gain, bringing up second and two for this church or offense.
Starting point is 00:42:19 Second down in two. Hillsdale in a huddle at their own, 46. Now break the huddle. McCurnet in the gun. Hayward, two. was right. Ruddy and Davis to the near side. Stanton to the far. McCurnet throws to Davis and he gets chopped down at the 30, no, at the 41 yard line, but that's enough for a first down. They keep looking at this tight end core. I think they feel like they can exploit these linebackers
Starting point is 00:42:53 of Thomas Moore who end up being put on our athletic tight ends and man coverage. first down in 10 for hillsdale at the thomas more 41 chargers 21 saints nothing 848 left in the second quarter mccurton under center and guicheu in the backfield standing in rabidot to the far side it's play action mccurton rolling out thrown for rabidone it falls incomplete A little bit of an inaccurate throw there from McCurnan. It looked like Rabido had some room to run, but had his hips turned the wrong way. Pass falls incomplete. Brings up second and 10 for the Chargers. Usually McCurnan makes those passes look easy, but the feet were not set on that play as he was rolling out to his right.
Starting point is 00:43:47 That's going to set up a second down in 10. McCurnet in the gun and Gishu to his left. Rabido to the nearest side. Two receivers to the far side. Play action. McCurnan looking out towards Rabido. And nice grab from him. Down to the Thomas Moore, 3.8.
Starting point is 00:44:08 The number 74 to 10-yard penalty. Second out. Holding call there on the center for that charger O-line. Jesse Mendez. Barely felt like the ball had touched McCurnan's hands before the pass got out. Very rare to see a holding call on something of such a short distance, but brings up second and 20. Second down in 20 after that unfortunate penalty marker. McCurner in the gun and Gishu to his right.
Starting point is 00:44:40 McCurnan rolling right throws and caught by Ruddy at the 46-yard line. Much better throw there from McCurnan on the run, but it's still still, still doesn't really cut into this massive distance to get a first down. So now it's going to be about a third down in 16. So we'll see what coach Otterbine draws up here. Third down in 15 rather. Chargers at the Thomas More 46. McCurn in the gun.
Starting point is 00:45:17 Back to pass. Looking, looking, stands in the pocket. It's nearly. Intercepted at the 32-yard line of Thomas Moore. Pass was intended for Luke Stanton. But the Saints played excellent. Zone coverage on the play, and McCurney could not fit the ball in over the head of that linebacker core.
Starting point is 00:45:42 So now Ian Woodier to punt this one away, two punt return us back deep for Thomas Moore. Great defense there from Thomas Moore. Dugan with his eyes in the backfield, reads where the quarterback's trying to go, just gets his hand up and bats that ball away before it can be turned into the first down. Hi, punt there from Woodyard, and it's going to hit down at the Thomas Moore 12. So we'll see what Ben Chessor and company for this Thomas More offense can do to try to fight into this. 21 point deficit against this charger squad.
Starting point is 00:46:28 That was the first stop by that Thomas More defense on the Hillsdale offense so far today. So they can use some of that momentum to try to get back into this ball game. Chess are in the gun. Williams, two islets, two receivers in the airside, one to the far, first down in 10 for the six. first down in 10 for the saint offense. They're at their own 12. Motion from Faye from left to right.
Starting point is 00:46:55 Give to Williams running right. And he's brought down at the 16 yard line. It looked like the ball might have popped loose for a second there right at the end of the run. But thankfully, Williams is able to hop right back on top of that for the Thomas More offense. Hopefully give their defense a little bit of a rest from what's been a pretty. grueling day against this Hillsdale Churcher offense so far. 6.55 left in the
Starting point is 00:47:25 first half. Chesser in the gun. Williams, two is right. Two receivers in near side, one to the far. Second down in six, four Thomas Moore at their own 16. Motion from Fay. Now he's going to motion back to the right. Chesser looking for Fay in the
Starting point is 00:47:41 flat. And Faye hit down by Scott Eaton. Great tackle there. From the sophomore from Ohio. And that's going to bring up a third down in about four. Great open field tackle. Once again, these Chargers defenders are flying all over the field.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Frank Muddywater Stadium's getting loud. Let's see if the Hillsdale Charger defense can get a stop. With Thomas Moore pinned back in their own territory, this could set up for good field position for their next offensive drive. Third down in three for this Thomas Moore offense. Chesser back to pass, looking, looking for. Rose cut for a first down. Luke Pinola in on the tackle, but it's all the way out to the Hillsdale 25-yard line,
Starting point is 00:48:28 and that's enough to move the chains. Keep this drive alive. Good little job from the receiver there, settling down in a soft spot right in front of the linebackers, got popped on the catch, but able to convert the first down. First down in 10 for Thomas Moore. They're at their own 25. Chessor gives to Williams. running right. And Chesser
Starting point is 00:48:51 tackled by Nolan Strait. At the Thomas Moore 28-yard line. So it's a gain of three. Good penetration there from the right side of the Charger defensive line. Evan Bynick got back, almost got to the ball carrier
Starting point is 00:49:09 before the handoff was even made. Thankfully for Thomas Moore got it out of the quarterback's hands and picked up a few yards. Chessor, in the gun. to his right, two receivers to the far side, one in the air, second down and seven for this Saint offense. Thomas Moore is at their own 28, Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore, nothing. Chesser gives the Smith running right, he is a burst to steam, and enough for a first down all the way out to the Thomas Moore 39-yard line,
Starting point is 00:49:38 and it looks like this run game for the St. Offense is heating up a bit. Great explosive run there from Martavius Smith, chopped down by Alex. Lee of the Hillsdale Chargers, but not soon enough before the Thomas More offense could pick up just another first down. It feels like they're sort of getting rolling now on the offensive end of the ball. First down and 10 for Thomas Moore. They're at their own 39. Chesser in the gun. Smith to his left, two receivers far side, one to the near, four minutes left in the first half. Give to Smith. And he gets across the 40-yard line before a penalty marker flies. So we'll see what the verdict.
Starting point is 00:50:19 is on that. There's a foul. They're looking hands in the face on the offense. Number 69, the 15-yard penalty. First down. Costly penalty there from the Thomas Moore offense. 15 yards backwards sets up first in 25. After the offense had finally started to get going,
Starting point is 00:50:43 they're just knocked back. So they got a long way to go before they can think of having another first down. Thomas Moore trying to get back. into this ball game. They have some life on the run game, but then, as you said, Carson, just an unfortunate mistake there is going to push him back to a
Starting point is 00:51:02 first down in 22. And now the clock's winding down in this first half. 354 left and counting. The Saints trying to put some points on the board. Chessor in the gun play action, throws out in the flat, caught.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Nice tackle there by Luke Panola, but Thomas Moore receiver gets out past the 30 yard line to the 33. Set up a nice little screen there to get back a good chunk of yardage. Like we've been saying, it's just mistakes you can't make. Your defense is finally getting a break. You want to keep this drive. Sustain this drive ideally till the end of the half.
Starting point is 00:51:41 So really big two downs coming up here to try and convert. Second down in 16 for Thomas Moore. Quarterback keep running right. and Chessor's forced out of bounds by Evan Viennick and Alex Knee. It's going to leave, rather, it's going to be a loss on the play. And Smith to his right. Three receivers to the far side flushed out of the pocket, throws out in the flat to Fay. And Faye gets out to the 38-yard line, but it's going to be fourth down in 11.
Starting point is 00:52:32 and I would assume Thomas Moore is going to have to punt this one away after going for it on the prior two fourth downs. Good swarming defense there from the Chargers. Scott Eaton getting the tackle brings out what looks like the punt team for the Thomas Moore offense or special teams rather. Hillsdale, be careful about a fake punt here. I love punts in college football. especially in D2 because that means Shea Ruddy has a chance to run it back. It's a high punt.
Starting point is 00:53:10 Fair catch called by Shea Ruddy at the Hillsdale 29. So no chance at a return for the senior from Temperance, Michigan. But 208 left in the second quarter.
Starting point is 00:53:28 So Hillsdale's going to have one more play before the two-minute timeout. And with their offense firing on all cylinders, they can try to add to this 21-point lead. Two minutes should be plenty of time to sustain a good drive, get the quarterback going, and hopefully put some more points on the board. Voice in the gun. First down in 10 for the chargers at their own.
Starting point is 00:53:55 29. Play action. Voice, looking, looking. Throws across the middle, incomplete intended for Luke Stanton. looked like Boyce was surveying his options. He had Ruddy in the flat, Carrico along the sidelines, and Stanton across the middle on a crossing route. But the ball falls incomplete.
Starting point is 00:54:17 Stops the clock now. So with 202 left in the second quarter, Hillsdale is going to have one more play before the two-minute warning. Boyce in the gun and Keeshoe 2 is right, Stanton to the far side, Keriko and Ruddy to the near. Second down in 10. And it's a quarterback key. Boyce, he's got some room and enough for a first down all the way out to the Charger 42-yard line.
Starting point is 00:54:44 Stumbling, spinning, and breaking tackles. What a great run that brings us down to the two-minute timeout. This is a two-minute timeout. So Hillsdale, Coach Hodderbine, an offensive coordinator for this Hillsdale squad, is going to try to draw up. A nice, I'm not going to say two minute warning, or two minute drive rather, but they're going to have to keep up the speed because they have a minute 55 to try to score a touchdown. Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore, nothing, some scores from around the country. Texas still leading Tennessee 7 to 3.
Starting point is 00:55:30 So we'll have to keep an eye on that. game as it progresses. So that's the end of the first quarter. And just beautiful weather here in South Central Michigan, quite opposite from last week's rainy weather. Last week it got me kind of sad how bad the weather was. I went to the library and was studying for a while, but the cold front moving in. I keep hearing news of this El Nino changing the weather in the continental United States and last week I felt
Starting point is 00:56:10 quite chilly but sunlight is back in the upper Midwest and it's just the quintessential Saturday for college football in the Midwest. First down in 10 for Hillsdale at their own
Starting point is 00:56:27 42. It's an end around with Ruddy and he's to the 45-50 tackled at the 48-yard line, but there's a flag on the field. Bowling, offense number 75. It's 10-yard penalty. Push-out. And that's going to negate the run there from Ruddy.
Starting point is 00:56:51 Boy, oh, boy, there's been a lot of flags in this game so far. They're trying to get Rady the ball more. But in the times he's gotten it, It's just unfortunate timing with either holding penalties, pre-snap penalties. So we'll see if they can get him more involved in this second half. 147 left in the second quarter. Boyce in the gun. Hayward 2 is right.
Starting point is 00:57:22 First down in 20 for the Chargers at their own 32. And there's a timeout called on the field for Hillsdale. and we'll take a time out with them. You're listening to Charger Football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale. We'll be back in 30 seconds. We all have a story. In this country holds millions.
Starting point is 00:57:49 From the founding to modern day, from small towns to great cities, from citizens to famous leaders. Our American stories shares them all. As host Lee Habib says, America is the star every time. Listen on Radio Free Hillsdale 101, point seven fm welcome back to frank muddywater's stadium on the campus of hillsdale college
Starting point is 00:58:17 hillsdale leads thomas more 21 and 147 left in the second quarter charges with a first down in 20 at their own 32 after an unfortunate holding call on an end around from shay ruddy that would have made this a lot more manageable boy in the gun heyward two is right three receivers to the far side none of the near. Boys back to pass looking for Carrico in the flat. Carrico makes a move and gets out across the 41-yard line and his helmet comes
Starting point is 00:58:49 off after an attempt from a Thomas More defender to try to strip the ball. And with the clock running, we'll see if the chargers can kind of pick up the speed here a bit as they've got 90 seconds left.
Starting point is 00:59:09 in this first half. We have some confusion on the field here with some umpires. You know, we're telling off an offensive player. There's a 10-second runoff. He'll sell as a lot. I let you not take a time out, so please set the game clock to one minute and 28 seconds. And the 10-second runoff is going to make it
Starting point is 00:59:29 less than 90 seconds for the chargers to try to add to this 21-to-nothing lead over Thomas Moore. Boyce in the gun. Hayward's who is right, two receivers to the near side, two to the far. Boyce, back to pass. Moving up in the pocket. makes a nice move out across midfield
Starting point is 00:59:44 and the Chargers are inside of Thomas More territory So it's a first down for the Chargers and Eli Boyce's running ability He's been the difference for Hillsdale so far second down, no first down in 10 for Hillsdale Boyce back to pass he's pressured in the backfield and sacked all the way back to the Hillsdale 48 And now Hillsdale is going to have to call a time out to try to draw up.
Starting point is 01:00:26 About four or five plays, I would say. They have one timeout remaining. The play action has been excellent so far for Hillsdale. I think overall the charges are going to have to get the ball into the hands of Shea Ruddy, be more creative as they're running him outside the tackles and get that offensive line to really hold these defensive ends of Thomas Moore at bay a bit more. But so far, Hillsdale has been dominating so far on all phases of the football, especially through the first quarter. Thomas Moore's hung in there, though. The past couple drives, the defense, the last drive, stopped Hillsdale, and then the offense got the running game going for Thomas Moore before having to punt it away.
Starting point is 01:01:26 So now a second down in 15, boys back to pass intended for Ryan Scura, and it falls incomplete at the Thomas Moore 46-yard line. Charge your offense slowing down a bit here. See if they can get into the groove before the end of the first half. Thomas Moore is going to receive the second half kickoff. And now Chargers sub in their big guns. Carrico, Ruddy, and Davis in the game now. Third down in 15 for Hillsdale.
Starting point is 01:02:01 They're going to want to be careful. They don't want to give Thomas Moore a chance with 59 seconds left in the first half. Boyce back to pass. Looking over the middle, it's caught by Tut. Carico at Thomas Moore, 31, and that's enough for a first down. Beautiful throw there from Eli Boyce. Thomas Moore playing zone coverage, and really tricky about zone coverage, is being able to drop it in behind that linebacker core,
Starting point is 01:02:32 and Eli Boyce did it beautifully there. 53 seconds left in the first half. Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore, nothing. First down in 10 for the Chargers at the last. Thomas Moore 31. Boyce in the gun and Gishu to his right. Two receivers to the far side, one to the near. Boyce in the gun.
Starting point is 01:02:53 Back to pass, looking left, now right. He's going to throw to Ingeishu out in the flat and Gishu's going to get a nice little gain out to the 26-yard line and he goes out of bounds smartly to stop the clock. Second down at five. Second down and five for the Hillsdale College charge. They're at the Thomas Moore, 26, Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore Nothing, 46 seconds left.
Starting point is 01:03:18 In the first half, Boyce in the gun, Vermeulen, two is right, three receivers to the near side, none of the far. Kerrico, Ruddy, and Metzger, all to the near. Boyce in the gun, looking left. Fires, and it's intercepted at the 16-yard line, Tut Kerrico, with the 10-yard. tackle and Thomas Moore defense bending but not breaking here stopping the chargers on the last two drives in that zone coverage I was talking about before that time boys just did not see the linebacker who was spying him right in front of Carico so now with 39 seconds left Thomas Moore is going to try to put some points on the board
Starting point is 01:04:11 cut into this 21-0-0 lead the Chargers have on them right now Out comes Ben Chester Smith to his right, two receivers to the far side, two to the near. First down in 10 for the Saints at their own 25. Chargers playing a cover three. Chester is just going to do a quarterback draw up the middle and it looks like Thomas Moore is just going to be content to run this clock out
Starting point is 01:04:43 and head to halftime down by three touchdowns but you got to give the Saints credit the second quarter they put up a fight holding the chargers to only one touchdown and we'll see if they can get back into this game for the second half chesser nice throw from him caught out in the flat by Jaden Combs and that's going to be the final play of the first half. Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore, nothing. Saints are going to receive the second half kickoff from Hillsdale. You're listening to Charger Football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale. We'll be back for second half action.
Starting point is 01:05:36 You're listening to The Making of America. I'm Michael Emerson. Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium on the campus of Hillsdale College. I'm Ted Ferringer alongside me's Carson Brower. Hillsdale leads Thomas Moore, 21 to nothing. Second half action is about to get underway here at Frank Muddywater Stadium. So far through the first half, I mean, the first one and a half, quarters it was all chargers but towards the tail end of the first half thomas more got a bit
Starting point is 01:06:16 comfortable their defense got two stops against the red hot charger offense and then a late turnover from eli boys has the chargers stop the chargers from putting on more points here So Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore, nothing. First half stats, Hillsdale, 14 rushes, 91 yards. Thomas Moore, 17 rushes, 42 yards. Passing yards, Hillsdale 145. Thomas Moore 44. So in about every statistical category, Hillsdale leads.
Starting point is 01:07:04 But again, Thomas Moore, defense. kept the Saints in the game as the second quarter was progressing. So now we're at a bit of a crossroads with this game. Thomas Moore, are they going to continue the momentum that they had through the end of the first half? Or are the Chargers going to retake some of the energy they had to begin the game? And also, Carson Brower won $250 over halftime, so we'll have to talk about that as well. year field goal, $250 richer
Starting point is 01:07:41 for my color commentator, so that's pretty fun. Now what you should do is take the $250 and go bet on the Florida Old Miss football game tonight and try to double your money. If I were a betting, man, my money would have to be on Ole Miss.
Starting point is 01:07:59 after that game against LSU, I feel like you're not going to have a letdown game. You're trying to prove everyone wrong. You did it beating LSU, go out and get another big win, big statement win for the resume. Unfortunately, for the Rebels, the game's in the swamp against the 21 ranked, 21st ranked Florida Gators. So I don't know if it's going to be an easy game for Ole Miss.
Starting point is 01:08:23 First down in 10 for Thomas Moore. It's a sweep to the left and a nice run out into the boundary. And enough for a first down. Moore offense picking up a first down on the first play the second half 14 52 left in the third quarter hillsdale 21 Thomas Moore nothing first down in 10 for the saints at their own 38 Chester in the gun Smith to his left one receiver to the near side two to the far it's a give to Smith and he gets hit down almost immediately guess who's on the tackle Luke Panola.
Starting point is 01:09:10 I feel like that's a pretty safe guess for anyone who's been listening to the game so far today. That man has been flying around, really making himself the face of this defense, tackle after tackle, plugging the holes, dropping the Thomas Moore running back for only a gain of one, really getting off to a good start to this second half for the charge of defense. Second down in nine for Thomas Moore. They're at their own 39. Chesser, under center, Smith in the back. backfield, two receivers to the far side, one to the near.
Starting point is 01:09:44 It's play action chess, rolling right, and it's complete to Faye out to the 45-yard line. A nice play there from the tight end on a little release to get in behind the blitzing, charge your defense. That's going to set up a third down and three. Common theme from the game has been these third downs,
Starting point is 01:10:08 Hillsdale's been pretty good at getting off the field today. Don't think Thomas Moore's had too many plays in our territory. Chester, in the gun, back to pass for this third down and three, throws out in the flats and Smith, and he falls down at the 42-yard line, so it's going to be a loss on the play. And now it's decision time for this Thomas Moore coaching staff. And we'll see what they do, and they're going to elect to punt. So on come Shea running, the most dangerous return man in all of D2 back standing at his own 21-yard line.
Starting point is 01:10:51 And it's a decent punt, fair cut and nearly muffed. And Metzger picks it up back at the 20. So a fair catch called by Ruddy. It hits him in the chest. and then Metzger picks the ball up back at the 20-yard line, so avoiding disaster for the Chargers special team squad there. Something we're seeing across all the levels of college football nowadays are these sort of wobbling punts that hang in the air a little too long.
Starting point is 01:11:25 Looks like Ruddy just had a little bit of trouble judging that. It was turning awkwardly, just bounced right off the numbers. Thankfully, the Chargers is able to hop right back on top. First down in 10 for Hillsdale at their own 21. McCurner in the gun and Gishu 2 is right, quarterback power right. And he gets out to the 24-yard line. With that punt from Thomas Moore previously, sets up the Chargers one drive closer to hopefully another shutout.
Starting point is 01:11:54 I don't know if it's a no-hitter like baseball where you don't talk about it when it's happening, but Chargers is looking for their second shutout of the season earlier this season with a home win against Wayne State 49 to zero. McCurnan and in the gunning, he shoot two is right, running to the far side, Metzker and Carico to the near. Second down in eight. It's going to be a throw out to Carico in the flat, and he's immediately hit by a crew of Saints on the play.
Starting point is 01:12:27 And that's going to bring up a third down and long for the Chargers. Seems like they're trying to get their wide receivers involved in these plays by these quick short throws, but Thomas Moore's been very explosive, going back to the second quarter, making some good shoestring tackles on Tuck Carico, not really letting the charger offense get too much going in the passing game. Third down and seven.
Starting point is 01:12:51 McCurnan in the gunning, he shoots who is right. This is a big third down for this charger offense to try to get back on track. Hillsdale 21, Thomas More, nothing. McCurnin, back to pass, looking towards Carrico. It's caught for a first down all the way out to the 34-yard. line and that ball thrown by McCurnan was on a line there. Beautiful ball there from McCurnan. Great way to create separation there from Caracote.
Starting point is 01:13:15 Quick little comeback route. Loses the defender by just a step. Gets his head around and McCurnan's got that ball already right on his numbers. First down in 10 for this charger offense. They're at the Charger 34. McCurnan under center. Hayward in the backfield. bunch formation to the near side.
Starting point is 01:13:38 It's a give to Hayward up the middle and he burst forward to the 39-yard line. I haven't seen a whole lot of Ben Gissue since that first drive of the game where he converted on that receiving touchdown. Wonder if his ankle might be bothering him again this week. Something to keep an eye on for future games for the Hillsdale College Chargers. Huddle for this charger offense at the 35. Now they break it. Second down and six for Hillsdale. They're at their own.
Starting point is 01:14:10 38 McCurnan in the gun. It's a pitch out to Hayward in the outside. He cuts up the field and gets out to the 42. Blake Hayward, a tough runner for this charger offense. More of a power back junior from Texas. Really runs hard for this charger offense. We have an injured Thomas Moore. player on the field.
Starting point is 01:14:37 So they're going to have to attend to him. 9.48 left in the third quarter. Hillsdale 21. Thomas Moore, nothing. Hillsdale, trying to get the rhythm back into this offense after a bit of a sluggish end of the second quarter. But kudos to Thomas Moore defense, bending but not breaking, keeping this within a three point game or three.
Starting point is 01:15:05 possession game. And the player for Thomas Moore is being helped off the field. So we will see what Hillsdale will draw up here. Texas leads Tennessee 10 to 3. Three minutes left in the second quarter. So the top-ranked longhorns are still holding strong at Rocky Top. So we will keep you updated on that. If anything happens there, third down and two,
Starting point is 01:15:42 Nolan's Drake in the game. No, check that. Avery Holt, the power running quarterback, the running quarterback for this Hillsdale offense, and that's going to be enough for a first down out to the 44-yard line. Nice job from the sophomore. Something I'm seeing that these Hillsdale Charger offenses do, doing really well is everyone is blocking. Tight ends, wide receivers, half backs.
Starting point is 01:16:10 Even when the quarterback's not involved in the play, he's getting out there and lead blocking. Really sets up good for a run offense like ours. So now we have a wild cat first down in 10 at the 44 and running with a wild cat. He's across midfield to the 40, 30, makes a cut at the 15, down inside the 10. Creative play call there from the charger. Offensive coaching staff.
Starting point is 01:16:35 It's going to be a flag on Hillsdale for a hold call, and it's going to negate the explosive play for the senior phenom. Offense. No, zero. The 10-year- and pedaling from the spot, push down. Even though the play didn't count, that really shows you and puts on display the athletic ability of Shea Ruddy really gives why there's so much hype around him here at Hillsdale College.
Starting point is 01:17:01 Saw the hole and hit the hole, made a couple defenders miss, and the only person left to stop him was the single high safety way down the field. He's got the it factor. And I think the offense here is going to have to find creative waves to get him the ball, but we just saw it there. He went 60 yards in the blink of an eye. First down in 12 for the Chargers at their own 42 McCurnan. Oh, the ball's on the ground.
Starting point is 01:17:30 And it's recovered by Thomas Moore at the Charger. 42. In the blink of an eye, you can go first in goal at the five from a 60-yard run from Shea Ruddy, have that called back for holding, and then Thomas Moore picks up a fumble on the subsequent play, just goes to show the wild nature of football. So now Thomas Moore has life. Judson Lawry the strong safety for the Thomas Moore defense. Quick to that ball on the ground picks it up, sets Thomas Moore up with their best starting field position of the day.
Starting point is 01:18:13 First down in 10 for Thomas Moore at the Charger 44. Chesser back to pass looking downfield. He's got a man and it's caught. Touchdown. Thomas Moore. And the Saints are back in this ball game. What a pitching catch there to Jade. Combs kind of settled right behind his cornerback.
Starting point is 01:18:36 It looked like he was just standing there waiting for the ball. Ball came, turned, and made a great play to get in the ends on there. Putting Thomas Moore on the board and cutting this down to a two-score game. Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore, 6. The Saints on to attempt the extra point to try to cut this to a two-possession game. And now there's another penalty marker on the field. The five-yard penalty. Davis Burleigh to attempt the extra point.
Starting point is 01:19:10 It's going to be a bit more difficult for the kicker. It will be a 25-yard attempt instead of a 20. Snap good, hold good, kick is up. And it's good. Hillsdale, 21, Thomas Moore, 7. You're listening to Charger football right here. on Radio Free Hillsdale. Welcome to the first episode of The World Outside

In 2017, a Bolivian Wildlife Sanctuary took in a cat named Tigrino. They thought he was an Onsilla, a small South American wildcat with golden fur and black splotches. But Tigrino's spots looked different,
Starting point is 01:20:14 and he was only 18 inches long, smaller even than most house cats. This year, biologists announced they had a whole new species on their hands. They named it the Tilkayo. This is the first time a brand new cat has been discovered since 1923. That's all for now.

If you want to find out what really happened in the news this week, stay tuned for Under the Radar on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.1. 7 FM. Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium on the campus of Hillsdale College.
Starting point is 01:21:22 Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore 7. Hillsdale's getting creative on their special teams, moving Shay Ruddy up as an upman on the return team, and he gets a return inside of Thomas Moore territory at the 40s. So play action, no, not play action. Give doing Gishi running left for the Chargers. and he gets tackled at the 33-yard line, and there is another penalty marker on the field. We're going to have to get that number for you
Starting point is 01:21:53 when the stat sheets come around in the press box. This might be the most penalized football game I've called here since my freshman year. So another holding call for the chargers, and they're going to have to now start their drive at Thomas Moore 48. Boyce in the gunny. Gishu to his right. Rabbitoh and Carico to the near side, stand to the far. First down, and 19. Play action, Boyce, rolling right. Throws and incomplete intended for Rabido. The ball just sailed on Boyce there. Second down in 19. Coming up.
Starting point is 01:22:42 Being stuck behind the chains kind of forces you to take a shot down the field on first down. I think the play was there for the Chargers. Just a tough throw to make for Boyce. Like you said, though, it feels like we haven't gone three plays without a penalty flag. Just seems like this game isn't really getting into a rhythm. It was about to compliment Shay Ruddy's tenacity out there on the perimeter setting the edge for Nguishu. But flags fly regardless. second down and 19 for the charges.
Starting point is 01:23:11 They're at the Thomas Moore 48. Boyce in the gun back to pass. Looking for Metzger. Ball falls incomplete. No, it's tipped it at the line and intercepted. And Boyce forces him out of bounds of the 48-yard line. But now there's another penalty marker on the field at the 40-4-yard line of Thomas Moore. So we'll see what the call is.
Starting point is 01:23:36 but that would have been the second interception thrown by Eli Boyce in this game. That one didn't seem to be too much. The illegal blindside block on a return team over 55. That's a 15-yard building, first down Thomas Moore. And Thomas Moore's defense is putting their offense
Starting point is 01:23:57 in beautiful positions for this second half. That one didn't seem to be too much to Boyce's fault on the interception. Ball was tipped at the line. Thomas Moore linebacker right there. Falls right into the bread basket. On the return, though, you may have heard a legal blindside block, setting them back 15 yards.
Starting point is 01:24:20 Just every other play. It seems like there's a yellow tarp down on the field. First down in 10 for Thomas Moore at their own 30. Chessor in the gun, Smith to his right. One receiver to the far side, one of the near, give to Smith running left. And he's hit down by Jonah. Jensen at the line of scrimmage.
Starting point is 01:24:38 So this Hillsdale defense is going to have to stand strong. Forget what happened on the last possession and get a stop. Hillsdale 21. Thomas Moore 7. The game has had a lot of momentum swings throughout this afternoon. All Hillsdale to begin the game. And Thomas Moore started hanging around at the end of the first half. And they've kept that momentum going into the second.
Starting point is 01:25:02 Chester in the gun. Smith to his right, second down in nine for the Saints at the wrong. on 31 Chester back to pass looking over the middle and it's caught no it isn't intercepted Colin Morrose running it back the other way for the Chargers
Starting point is 01:25:18 but the umps declare it incomplete I thought for a second it could have been a Julian Edelman like catch from the Super Bowl against the Falcons where it went the ball was kept up in the air by an arm and a leg
Starting point is 01:25:36 but it's declared incomplete. So now a third down in nine for this charger defense. Thomas Moore at their own 31-703 left in the third quarter. Chesser and the gun spit to his right and the Bulls on the ground. And Hillsdale has a chance in recovering it. They have to look in the pile. And yes, Evan Bienic with the run. recovery and the huge turnover there puts the charger offense in prime position to add to their
Starting point is 01:26:15 14 point lead. Just a mishandled snap there from Ben Chesser. It seemed like a little bit low, but at some point you just got to fall on the ball so that you're not given the Hillsdale Charger offense who's had some struggles as of recently this great field position to hopefully get that gas back in their engine. First down in 10 for the Chargers at the St. 26, McCurnan in the gun, Inkeshoe 2 is right. Scur to the near side, ruddy to the far.
Starting point is 01:26:47 Motion from Ruddy from left to right. It's a fake to Ruddy. McCurnan running left, and it's going to be a loss on the play. For the senior from Brighton, Michigan. He's going to lose about one, using a lot of pre-snap motions there to try to free up the corner. coverback run play, but the Saints were not fooled. 6.34 left, third quarter and counting.
Starting point is 01:27:14 Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore, 7. Second down and 12 for the Chargers. At the Thomas Moore, 28, McCurner on the Gunningishi to his right, Carricko and scorer to the near side. And the ball is intended for Carrico, and it falls incomplete at the Thomas More 20. Boy, oh boy. It's 1V1. Shea Ruddy at the far side against a Thomas Moore cornerback.
Starting point is 01:27:44 And I like my odds every day of the week with that matchup. So we'll see if the charges can exploit a Ruddy one-on-one matchup with a St. quarterback, cornerback, rather. Third down and 12 for the charges. McCurn in the gun throws Inguishu out in the flat, good blocking from Carrico. And Ingeishu is going to get inside the 30. down to the 28. Decision time now for the Chargers.
Starting point is 01:28:11 You're up 21 to 7 over Thomas Moore. It's a fourth down in 12, and you're at the Saints 28. Looks like the offense is staying out on the field. Kind of surprising to see, but we can see if they can convert. Like you said, they should have exploited that ruddy one-on-one at the top of it. McCurner in the gun. Back to pass. He's got three receivers to the left.
Starting point is 01:28:39 And he dropped in the back field. And Thomas Moore, defense comes up with another huge stop. And it's a big loss on the play for McCurton and Company. And now Thomas Moore is going to have prime field position at the charger 37-yard line. Boy, oh, boy, if you're listening to this game, do not go anywhere. Things are getting rather interesting throughout much of this second half. as Thomas Moore is going to have a chance to cut into this 21 to 7 deficit against the Chargers. Caden Thompson there for the Thomas Moore defensive line.
Starting point is 01:29:15 Great penetration off the right side of the Hillsdale Charger offensive line. Just gets through, gets his hands on the quarterback and swings him right down. Chester in the gun, Smith to his right, first down and 10 for the Saints at their own 37 play action. Chester throws incomplete. Nix in on the coverage and it looks like he. He's banged up on the play as his helmet went flying off. So we hope he's okay as the trainers will attend to him. And we're going to take a 30 second time out.

Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium on the beautiful campus of
Starting point is 01:30:58 Hillsdale College. I'm Ted Ferringer alongside me's Carson Brower. Hillsdale leads Thomas Moore, 21 to 7 in a rather momentous second half. Chargers started the game off dominant, going three for three on the first three drives for three touchdown. They had a 21-0-0 lead before Thomas Moore stopped the next two drives by the Chargers and then scored a touchdown to start the second half. And that's how we're at 21 to 7. Chesser, four of the Saints is in the gun. Smith, who is right through receivers to the near side, one of the far, second down in 20 for the Saints at their own 27.
Starting point is 01:31:38 And Smith's hit the line to make it a third down and long. While we were away, yet another penalty flag flew, setting the Thomas Moore Saints back behind the line of scrimmage. All these costly mistakes are starting to pile up for the Saints who have sort of gotten momentum on their side here, up 7-0 since those first three drives of the game. But nothing doing on this drive. Turn down in 19 for Thomas Moore.
Starting point is 01:32:06 The Saints throughout thrown 28. Chesser back to pass. He's going to throw it down. and a double coverage where it's incomplete. Nearly brought down by the Thomas Moore receiver, but great double coverage there from Cost Davis and Layton Scott. And now Thomas Moore is going to have to punt this one away, and Shay Ruddy is going to have a chance to return it. That was a really pretty ball in there from Chesser,
Starting point is 01:32:39 but cost Davis just looked like he was able to get a hand on it, break up that pass, and hopefully set up for a dangerous return here from Jay Ruddy. Ruddy standing at his own 35. Thomas Moore to punt this one away at their own 15, and the punter has trouble with the snap. Still gets the punt away, but it's going to go out of bounds at about the charger. 33-yard line. No, check that.
Starting point is 01:33:06 The Thomas Moore 33-yard line. and there's a penalty marker at the 25. That punt didn't even get back to the original line of scrimmage for the Thomas More Saints on this drive. Just all these self-inflicted wounds just are piling up. Five men in the back on the offense. That penalty is declined. Pushed out. First down for Hillsdale deep into Thomas Moore territory.
Starting point is 01:33:36 Hillsdale 21, Thomas Moore, 7. The Chargers trying to add to their 14-point lead here in an interesting second half that keeps getting more interesting. Boyce back in at quarterback. He's in the gun. Empty set, Ruddy. In Gishu to the far side. Carricko and Stanton to the near. First down in 10 for the Chargers. At the Thomas More 35. Now they shift. And Gishu goes to the backfield. It's a kid doing
Starting point is 01:34:09 Gishu up the middle and he moves the file down to the 29, no 31 yard line of Thomas Moore. At this point in the game there's been a lot of momentum shifts, a lot of turnovers, a lot of penalties.
Starting point is 01:34:26 Hillsville's going to want to reestablish their run game, take advantage of this clock. Get back the dominance on the offensive line to build the lead back to 21 points. So now we have different formation now.
Starting point is 01:34:44 It's second down and six for the chargers at the Thomas Moore 31 Wildcat. Ruddy running right makes a cut. And inside the 25-yard line, down to the 21. Another helmet on the field. Looks like it fell off a Thomas Moore defender, but that's enough for a first down for the Ruddy Wildcat, which has worked well today. Back to back plays.
Starting point is 01:35:10 When coaches talk about games being one in the trenches, that is teach tape right there from the Charger offensive line. On the Nogisu run, good movement on the left side to open up a hole for him. And then Shayradi doesn't need much of a hole, but the right side of the line gave him one to get that first down. First down in 10 for Hillsdale at the Thomas Moore 23. Boyce in the gun and Gishu to his left. Boyce running left.
Starting point is 01:35:32 QB power all the way. And he gets inside the red zone to the 19-year. yard line before Thomas Moore stops them there. Two, 58 left in the third quarter and counting. Hillsdale 21. Thomas Moore, seven. Hillsdale driving, trying to add to this 14-point lead. They're in Thomas Moore. Territory.
Starting point is 01:35:57 They're in the red zone looking for a touchdown. Boys in the gun, Hayward 2 is right. Bunch formation to the near side. In Stanton, Metzger, and Davis. Voice back to pass. No. QB draw all the way and he gallops inside the 10-yard line. Another play with great movement up on that front line for the Chargers.
Starting point is 01:36:23 And really impressed this drive of how they're controlling the clock, running the ball, getting back to what put them to what gave them that 21-point lead to start the game. Really just pounding the rock, good old-style football from the Charger offense. first in goal for Hillsdale at the Thomas More 10. Boys in the Gun, Hayward to his right, another quarterback run up the middle. And he gets down inside the five. More substitutions for the Chargers. Ryan Scura.
Starting point is 01:36:56 Ben and Gishu check in. Hayward now checks back in with Carrico. And it looks like they're going to do a wildcat formation. with Ruddy here. It's a second down and goal. Balls at the Thomas Moore for 90 seconds left in the third quarter. Wildcat with Shea Ruddy at quarterback. Hayward to his right.
Starting point is 01:37:22 Ruddy picks it up, running right. He's to the five. Looking for the pylon and a touchdown for the senior from Temperance, Michigan. Healdsdale, 27. Thomas Moore, 7. We've mentioned that 4-4 speed from Ruddy before. Really impressive using that explosiveness to gain the edge, turn the corner. And from the four-yard line, you don't need much.
Starting point is 01:37:47 But Shay Ruddy got just inside that right pylon for a charger touchdown. Dylan Zedario on to complete the extra point with a buck-fick 15 left in the third quarter. The kick is up and it's good. Hill still 28. Thomas Moore 7, you're listening to Charger Football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale. At Radio Free Hillsdale, we can stop and smell the roses. Starting point is 01:40:00 It's a give to Smith up the middle. And Smith is stopped at the line of scrimmage by Jonah Jensen and company. So you kind of feel in the crowd after that. drive there from the Chargers that things have settled down a bit at Frank Muddywater Stadium. Charger dominant seems to come back, has come back a bit as they lead Thomas Moore, 28 to 7 after a chaotic third quarter. Chesser in the gun, Smith to his left, two receivers to near side, one to the far. Now the tight end motions out to the far side.
Starting point is 01:40:40 Chesser back to pass, moves up in the pocket. and he's hit down at the 32-yard line. Good job turning nothing into something there from Chesser, using his legs getting out of the pocket. It looked like he was going to go down on his slide, but instead falls forward. Make this third and very manageable for this Thomas more offense. It really needs to get something to go ahead.
Starting point is 01:41:05 10 seconds left in the third quarter. Chesser back to pass in the second down in seven, and the ball's incomplete. at the Thomas Moore 39. Jonah Jensen, the Air Force Academy transfer on the block, and that's going to leave one second left in this third quarter. Great pass break up there from Jonah Jensen, really reading the eyes of the quarterback, sees his receiver settled down, gets right up behind him and gets a hand in there.
Starting point is 01:41:37 As we see the Thomas Moore punt team actually come on the field for this fourth down. Thomas Moore is going to punt this one away. Be careful for a fake. It's only a fourth down and three for the Saints at their own 28. Ruddy back deep to receive at his own 31. And he does not have a chance to return it as the ball falls out of bounds at the 30-yard line. And that's the end of the third quarter. Hillside, Thomas Moore, 7.

I'm Lauren Smith and I'm back with another controversial opinion. We should not use exclamation marks. This is a bit of a generalization. In informal writing, of course, you can do whatever you want. You don't have to remove the exclamation mark from your keyboard.
Starting point is 01:42:36 But when you're telling a story or trying to be persuasive, you should try to structure your sentences so that the emphasis is clear without an exclamation mark. This punctuation mark often conveys a sense of extreme urgency or anger, which is often misplaced. Secondly, it usually violates the show don't tell rule of storytelling. An exclamation mark is a serious tell. It doesn't let the reader imagine what's going on. It just forces them to conclude that someone is experiencing a strong emotion. The tone of an exclamation mark is usually meant to be friendly, but it often comes off as overly caffeinated and possibly manic. Use exclamation marks sparingly, if at all. Starting point is 01:44:14 I'm Ted Ferringer. Alongside me is Carson Brower. Hillsdale leads Thomas Moore, 28 to 7 at the start of the fourth quarter. Hillsdale at midfield trying to add to this 21-point lead. So the charger offense huddling at their own 45, taking their time, take advantage of this running clock. Colin McCurnan in the game at quarterback. And Gishu, 2 is right, Ruddy to the far side. Carico motions from left to right. Play action.
Starting point is 01:44:47 McCurnan, looking towards Rutty, and it's caught by Shea at the 36-yard line. And we're getting some more production, some more chances for Ruddy. more touches for him as this game continues really a beautiful route there from Shea Ruddy he only had 23 yards in the first half very quiet half for him but great route there picks up about 16 for the charger offense
Starting point is 01:45:18 first down in 10 four Hillsdale at the Thomas Moore 36 McCurnan play action looking towards Ruddy to double move from Ruddy he's got a step and it's gone all the way way down to the five-yard line. Man, he really went up and got that ball. A little bit of an underthrow ball. Ruddy shows off that vertical leap as well as the speed with the double move.
Starting point is 01:45:41 Goes up and gets it. Shea Ruddy climbs the ladder. Get that kid a contract. First and goal for Hillsdale. 42 left in the ball game. First down and goal for Hillsdale at the Thomas Moore 5. Avery hold in at quarterback for a QB draw, and it's going to get down to the four-yard line.
Starting point is 01:46:16 Boy, oh boy, what a grab from Ruddy. The ball was underthrown. It was one-on-one coverage. You knew they were going to take a shot along the boundary. The defender did not have his. head turned and boy oh boy ruddy climbed the ladder and brought the ball down second down and goal ball at the thomas more four hole is going to flip it to kinesny and it's a touchdown for the chargers he was rolling to his left and a little shovel pass to andrew kinesny charges now make it
Starting point is 01:46:58 34 Thomas Moore 7. Really beautiful play there from hole. Everyone was expecting the quarterback run. Drew two defenders, just flips it around the edge to Kinesny, gets in for the end zone, and that kind of feels like it's going to slam the door here on the Thomas More Saints.
Starting point is 01:47:16 And Dylan Dadario on to attempt the extra point to make this a 28-point game. Scorer to hold, Davis to snap. Good snap, good hold. Kick is up. And it's good. Hillsdale 35 Thomas Moore 7. You're listening to Charger football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale. What does disaster look like?
Starting point is 01:47:55 In the early morning hours of April 18, 1906, the city of San Francisco fiercely trembled as a 7.9 magnitude earthquake shook the city. Buildings collapsed. The ground split as the San Andreas fault divided for nearly three hundred, hundred miles. For three days, the city burned as fires and smoke engulfed the city of fall. The catastrophe killed more than 3,000, and even more lost everything they had, with property damage nearing $400 million. That would be $14.4 billion today. In the wake of the tragedy, San Francisco was forced to rebuild, now with the knowledge that urban America was not an invincible infrastructure. For more, go to Fox News Podcast.com. I'm Bill Hemmer.
Starting point is 01:48:45 Fox News. Hillstone College students earned two first-place honors at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System College Media Awards in New York City. Erica Kaiba won Best Specialty Show for The Poetry Fix. And Lauren Smith was named Best News Director Radio for her leadership and original news coverage.
Starting point is 01:49:04 Congratulations to Erica, Lauren, and everyone at WRFH who helped make this achievement possible. This message is brought view by Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Welcome back to Frank Moneywater Stadium on the campus of Hillsdale College. I'm Ted Ferringer alongside niece Carson Brower. Hillsdale leads Thomas Moore 35 to 7 with 1153 left in the ball game.
Starting point is 01:49:28 And oh my goodness, Chesser, back to pass for Thomas Moore, absolutely rocked in the backfield as he's sacked by Evan Beinnick. That's going to be a huge loss on the play. Evan Bienix having a really nice game today, one fumble recovery, and just getting a lot of pressure right up the front of that defensive line. Good push to get that quarterback uncomfortable in the pocket, finishes it with a sack of his own. Second down in 17 for Thomas Moore.
Starting point is 01:50:04 Ball at the St. 18. Chester in the gun. Smith to his right. Chester back to pass. He's rocked by Bionick. again and the ball is up in the air and boy oh boy
Starting point is 01:50:16 no one's drake is unable to bring in the interception and a roughing the passer just placing its body upon the quarterback and the 15-nard
Starting point is 01:50:30 penalty and a ruffing the passer call on Evan Biennick and the crowd does not like that call at all the crowd definitely did not approve of that call.
Starting point is 01:50:43 Can't say that I did necessarily either. Gray pressure once again from Episbee-N-A, getting home on the quarterback, forcing just like a dead duck throw from Chesser. But with the flag, it's a Thomas Moore first down. First down in 10 for Thomas Moore. They're at their own, 33. Chester in the gun. Smith, two is right, two receivers in the airside,
Starting point is 01:51:05 two to the far. Chesser rolling right. Throws, caught. J.T. Cooper with the grab all the way out to the Thomas Moore 39. Thomas Moore is doing a good job of getting Chester out of the pocket, getting them on the move to the right or left to just avoid the menacing defensive line so far of this charger defense, including Evan Bionick, Drake Badger, causing some chaos right now. Second down and four for Thomas Moore. and Chester's going to move up in the pocket, make a nice cut before Scott Eaton brings him down at the 42 and a half yard line. But nice job from Ben Chesser on that play.
Starting point is 01:51:54 We'll set up a third down and one. Thomas Moore at their own 42-yard line. Big third-down-in-one here. And it's a QB's sneak. And I don't know if he got it. He needs to get to the 43 yard line. And the referees are inquiring. Now it's fourth and about a foot.
Starting point is 01:52:24 Hillsdale 35. Thomas Moore 7. There's 10 minutes left in the ball game. So Thomas Moore needs to convert on this fourth down to keep the drive alive. It would be a huge. It would be a huge momentum swing here. And a great pat on the back for this defense to get a stop on fourth and a foot. Fourth down and one.
Starting point is 01:52:49 We have a timeout called by Thomas Moore to confer on this play. John Lindley's got to be really impressed with his defensive line this game. It doesn't matter how many they bring it. It feels like three, four, or five. They're just always getting pressure, always getting home, making good stops. Way to stop him on third down and force this fourth down conversion for Thomas Moore. Really impressive stuff from the defensive line today. And so now some of that crowd getting loud is going to have to charge up one more time for this fourth down and one.
Starting point is 01:53:26 I don't know if this is new this year, but a lot of people now have cowbells. I keep hearing in the crowd. It reminds me of the tradition down in Starkville at the University of Mississippi State. or Mississippi State University, rather, where they give quite a bit of people these cowbells. So it just, it sounds quite loud. I mean, it's a nice showing for the Hillsdale Faithful, the crowd. Free entrance for all members that want to come to the game. So that's neat.
Starting point is 01:54:01 Fourth down in one for Thomas Moore. They running up the middle and it's enough for the first down. out to the 45-yard line. So nice job, but that Thomas Moore offensive line, and with 941 left in the ball game, they're going to try to cut into this 28-point lead.
Starting point is 01:54:24 Now, I'm not going to venture out and say that Hillsdale is going to win the game outright because after that chaotic third quarter, you just don't know what's going to happen. First down in 10, 4. Saints at their own 44. It's a sweep to a receiver from left to right, and he stumbles down at the Thomas Moore 41, so it's going to be a loss of four on the play as mass substitutions for that
Starting point is 01:54:56 charger defensive line. Going back to that fourth down conversion for the Thomas More Saints, really impressive run there from Smith. He was contacted all the way back behind the line of scrimmage. but made a good second effort to fall forward and gain even two or three yards off that play. Second down in 13. Chesser in the gunsmith to his left. Thomas Moore thrown 41. Chesser back to pass. Looking for a receiver down the field in double coverage and it falls incomplete.
Starting point is 01:55:29 No one's Drake. And Ryan Nixa in on the coverage. sent out third down and 13 Thomas Moore at their own 41 trying to cut into this 35-7 lead Hillsdale owns over them right now. Chessor in the gun Smith to his left two receivers the far side, two to the near. Chester back to pass. Blitz from the charger defense and incomplete intended for a receiver at the 43. line of the Chargers. And now it's fourth down and long, and I would assume Thomas Moore will go for it.
Starting point is 01:56:14 No, they're going to punt this one away. And with the punt, that means there's a chance for Shay ready to run one back. The most dangerous man in returning punts in all of D2, standing back at his own 25, with 827 left in the ballgame. and it's a decent high looping punt and a fair catch is called by Ruddy at the 28-yard line of the Chargers. Those were some great third and fourth down plays from that Charger defense. Getting penetration on the inside,
Starting point is 01:56:54 forcing throws from Chessor quickly. Look out of bounds on the third down throw and then just an inaccurate pass on fourth down. Number 95, Jaden, Nagori getting pressure on inside back-to-back quarterback hits so pretty good day if you have him in fantasy football first down in 10 for Hillsdale at their own 27 no one Avery hold in it quarterback for the chargers more of a running quarterback and he makes a nice cut all the way up to a first down so nice job from the sophomore as hillsdale now with a 28 point lead's going to get some good playing time
Starting point is 01:57:33 from their you know, backups and younger kids, sophomores and freshmen, which will be beneficial as the year and this season
Starting point is 01:57:49 winds on and the next couple of years. So first down in 10 for Avery Holton Company at the Charger 37. It's, no, Holt keeps it and he's going to get out to the 45. Nice job from him.
Starting point is 01:58:07 Kind of seeing, oh yes, go ahead. Kind of seeing why we have this like revolving door of quarterbacks at Hillsdale. Kind of everyone can do it. Colin McCurnan's had a good day. Eli Boyce has had a good day. Every hole, even with a touchdown pass, and now a couple great runs from himself. The depth of this Hillsdale team is one of its strengths.
Starting point is 01:58:32 at the running back position, at the quarterback position, the receiver position. And even with the loss last week, they're in contention to win the G-Mack this year, as it's a give to Hawk Hasselman up the middle to midfield. And that's enough for a first down as we're getting under six and a half minutes left in the ball game. Hillsdale 35, Thomas Moore, 7.
Starting point is 01:58:57 Next week, Hillsdale, is traveling to Lake Erie College. That's a one o'clock kickoff in Erie, Ohio. There's another first down in 10 for a hole. And Drew Ruddy in the backfield at running back, and he's immediately hit in the backfield all the way back to the 43-yard line of the Chargers. Thomas Moore, they have a lot to hold their heads up
Starting point is 01:59:28 about from this effort, Today, their defense forced a couple of turnovers. They made the game interesting in the third quarter. Next week, they host Walsh at home for a night game at 7 p.m. And now second down in 15, Holt rolling out to the right. It's caught by Rabido, and he's hit down at, Inside of Thomas More territory at the 49. So the next home game for the Chargers will be against Walsh.
Starting point is 02:00:06 Right here, coverage will be on Radio Free Hillsdale. For the homecoming game, as another flag is thrown on the field for the charger holding penalty. So coverage, as I mentioned, will be right here on. 101.7 for a great homecoming game against Walsh and some great traditions from this school as there will be mock rock where it's a dance competition among the dormitories in the splux following the game. Second down in 25 for Hillsdale at their own 35. Holt running left. Hawk Hasselman out is lead blocker and he's hit down at the 39-yard line. Lake Erie and Walsh, Hillsdale, our favorite to win. And then the home game against 9th ranked Finley on October 17th at 1 p.m.
Starting point is 02:01:11 Again, coverage will be on Radio Free Hillsdale. Will be the Chargers, you know, Super Bowl for the 2026 season as they contend against a national powerhouse in the G. G-Mack and all of D-2. As Holt on a third and 22 is going to run it up the middle, and an offensive line of this charger squad
Starting point is 02:01:38 will push him out to the 44-yard line, where Hillsdale's going to punt this one away with 429 left in the ball game. But overall, in what was a sloppy game, a lot of penalties
Starting point is 02:01:57 turnovers, the Chargers showed great ability to handle the chaos when things weren't going their way to buckle down and put the game back in their pocket, so to speak.
Starting point is 02:02:16 So many things to learn from these efforts today in a really impressive Charger team that is considered by many to be the best in quite some time as Carico with a nice special team's tackle there. And Thomas Moore out to try to work into this 28-point lead. But again, as I said before, they have a lot to hold their head up about.
Starting point is 02:02:50 The next couple games for them, they'll play Walsh next week at home. and they traveled to Ohio, Dominican, Ashland, Lake Erie, Finley, Northwood, and Kentucky Wesleyan. So they still have two of the nationally ranked GMAC teams still to go, whereas Hillsdale played the 20th ranked Northwood University squad last week. So Hillsdale's set to improve to 3-1 on the year as Chesser fakes the handoff and runs up. the middle to the 15-yard line.
Starting point is 02:03:31 Today, Carson, after calling this game, is there anything you saw that was very encouraging from the Hillsdale side of the ball? I think I've harped on it a lot today, but the defensive line has looked really fantastic today, getting pressure, forcing Chester out of the pocket, having a couple fumble recoveries, a couple sacks. They just looked really sharp. and I think Coach Lindley is going to be really happy in the defensive line room
Starting point is 02:03:58 with how this game was played for them. A nice run there from Thomas Moore and it's another first down in 10 for the Saints. They're at their own 26. Chester in the gun, Smith to his left. Chesser back to pass, looking over the middle.
Starting point is 02:04:17 It's intercepted by Ryan Ruddy at the 45. And he's hit down inside the 20-yard line. Ryan Ruddy, the junior out of Temperance, Michigan, with an interception. And what a way to end this game for the Charger defense that rose to the challenge in this second half. And I have to give a shout out to my boy, Ryan Ruddy. I live with him in the sweets.
Starting point is 02:04:47 What a nice play from him. The brother of Shea Ruddy. And that Ruddy families, they have three sons on the Charger. football team. They have a fourth one. Breck, who is visiting today on a visit. So there could be next year another three Ruddy's on the field for the Chargers as Drew Ruddy with a run for Hillsdale. Inside the 20-yard line, not many football programs where you have one brother intercept the pass. And on the next play, another brother with a two-yard run just goes to show the neat traditions, the neat legacies here at Hillsdale College with their sports and their sports teams.
Starting point is 02:05:37 But yes, I have many great things to say about the Ruddy family. Just phenomenal people. Is Cole Cantor in it quarterback? And he makes a nice cut down inside the 15-yard line. Nice bit of running. there from Cole Cantor letting the other guys eat a little bit as we head to the two minute time out
Starting point is 02:06:05 my little brother's favorite part of ice cream Sunday is the cherry on top and that interception from Ruddy just goes to do that for the Hillsdale Chargers there's a little messy in the third quarter little iffy I know Chargers fans were holding their breath I was on the edge of my seat up here in the box
Starting point is 02:06:24 but the Hillsdale Chargers have put together a very prominent fourth quarter effort here, running the ball, controlling the line of scrimmage, and just overall a great fourth quarter performance, hoping to punch one more in, get some other guys, some touches, and maybe get someone a first career touchdown today. A lot of good things can be learned from times when things aren't going your way, when flags are flying, turnovers are happening, to take. command and finish the game on top. And that's exactly what the Chargers have done today.
Starting point is 02:07:06 Now, with that being said, the coaches will probably go to the film. And this squad will hear a lot about those flags for this week. But right now, it's a good feeling, good vibes around Frankie Muddywater Stadium. As Cole Cantor back to pass in his third and seven, and he's going to be brought down at the 15 yard line. And we will see if the charges are going to come on to attempt a field goal. And they will. Dylan DeDario on to attempt a 24-yard field goal ball spotted at the 24.
Starting point is 02:07:51 So 34-yarder for Dylan to Dario with 125 left in the ball game. game. Likens to snap, skirt a hold, kick is up, and it's good. Hillsdale, 38, Thomas Moore, 7. That would have been good from 45. And that's a great way to end a game, get a nice special team's play from this Chargers squad as Tennessee is trailing Texas 10 to 13. Nine minutes left in the third quarter. So that'll be something to keep an eye on. I know what I'm doing when this game ends.
Starting point is 02:08:39 I'm picking up here and I'm going back to the dorm and I'm going to watch the end of that ball game. You have a lot of homework this week? I don't have too much homework. I think I just got a whole lot of confidence. college football on my schedule. We got Michigan, Iowa, our game, Michigan State, Nebraska. Obviously, it should be a good end to the game in Knoxville. Tennessee's 0-14 all-time against number one-ranked opponents. See if they can break that streak. I know Knoxville's known for some crazy endings of recent. So definitely just a lot of college football on the agenda for me today.
Starting point is 02:09:18 Life does not get much better. as Dylan DeDario's kick is going to be a touchback. It almost went out of bounds, but it fell into the end zone. Now's the time to give a little appreciation to people on the football team who don't really get the appreciation they deserve. Dylan and Dario had quite the day for the Hillsdale Chargers. That kickoff probably didn't get above the heads of any of the players on the field. But that's four touchbacks for him. five for five on extra points and a 34-yard field goal.
Starting point is 02:09:55 Highest scoring player on the team today, really an impressive outing from Dylan Dadaria. I want to give a shout out to everyone today that has helped with the operation, to Caleb who helps set up to Hershey, who's back at the station running the board. We could not do it without you. Week in and week out, so big thanks to you guys.
Starting point is 02:10:16 And overall, chargers are going to improve to 3 and 0 at home. December 99 to 5-yard penalty 3-0 at home and the crowds this year have definitely been louder than in the past so that's very neat fun vibes around this college
Starting point is 02:10:35 a lot of cool things happening the construction on the quad the amazing academics the in my opinion one of the best college presidents in all the lands so this place is really thriving in a time where I think higher ed is struggling.
Starting point is 02:10:56 It's sunny in 65 degrees, and you can kind of feel a buzz around campus when people talk about this Hillsdale College football team as well. Not known for their success as of recent years. Definitely in my sophomore year, I didn't see a successful team last year, but you're here in buzz and people are excited for what this program has going forward, especially maybe having that opportunity to compete for a GMAC championship this season. First down in 10 for Thomas Moore at their own 37. It's a give up the middle to Smith, so it's a nice game from him, but that may very well be the final play of the game as the clock is now winding down inside of 30 seconds.
Starting point is 02:11:42 Hillsdale, 38. Thomas Moore, 7. And on the final play of the game here on a second down in four at the Thomas Moore 43 to give up the middle. And we will see if Thomas Moore will try for one more play or if they're just going to let the clock wind down. And that looks like that's it, folks. And week four is in the books. Hillsdale, 38. 4.7. Coverage
Starting point is 02:12:23 will be on our coverage for the game at Frank Moneywater's Stadium on Radio Free Hillsdale. We'll be on October 10th against Walsh at 2 p.m. It's the homecoming game. So you should tune into that.
Starting point is 02:12:39 Ted Ferringer, Carson Brower, signing off. You've been listening to Hillsdale Charge your sports on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Now back to our regular programming, already in progress.
