folks we really apologize for the technical difficulties. Caleb came up in the box and fixed it for us
and Colin McCurney just scampered in for a touchdown here at Frank Moneywater Stadium.
And Hillsdale ties it up seven all with 703 left in the first quarter.
McCurnan really redeeming himself after he threw a pick six and Jacob Tiamu ran it back the other way.
but now Dylan Thadario is on to attempt the extra point.
The hold by Scura, snap by Likens, and the extra points good.
So we're all tied up here at Frank Muddywater Stadium 7 to 7.
You're listening to Charger Football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale.
Welcome back to Frank Moneywater Stadium on the campus of Hillsdale College.
I'm Ted Ferrenshaw joined by Joe Van Cat.
Hillsdale 7
Tiffin 7
it's been a bit of a chaotic
first part of the first
quarter
the Chargers received the ball
to start the game McCurnin
threw a pick 6
Tiffin linebacker ran it back the other way
but then the charges marched down the field
and the subsequent drive
and that's where we're at now
so this is the first
look at this
Tiffin offense
as it's a give to Ronald Blackman up the middle, one of the best running backs in the GMAC,
a three-time all-G-MAC player and past GMAC MVP who leads the conference in rushing yards.
They're going to rely on him a lot today with a backup quarterback in the game.
And Blackman strung out there by Biennick and Likens,
and that'll set up a third down and long all the way back to the Tiffin's.
Chargers really selling out to start the run here at the beginning of the game.
It's going to be positions like this where we see what Cain Mack can really do back there.
We haven't seen him throw the ball yet.
This is going to be the first obvious passing situation of the game for the Dragons.
So here we go.
Third down and 14.
Mack in the gun, Blackman to his left.
Tiffin deep in their territory at the 6.
Mack, back to pass.
He's in the end zone.
He throws an incomplete to the far side of the field, the incomplete pass.
That'll be a freeing out for this Tiffin offense.
And he's lucky to get rid of that ball at all.
He had Drake Badger coming off the edge right up in his face.
Nearly a safety for the Chargers.
And now Tiffin is going to punt this one away.
Shatten.
is standing in his own end zone.
Ruddy is waiting at midfield.
It's a good punt.
Ruddy calls for the fair catch at the 48-yard line,
so good starting position for the Chargers.
And now Hillsdale comes back out onto the field this offense.
Nice drive.
Just moments ago from McCurne,
who really had good short-term memory from that pick six to start the ball game.
So we'll see how the third possession of the game goes for this charger offense.
First down in 10, Hillsdale.
At the Tiffin 48, McCurnan in the gun, Gishu to his right,
ruddy to the near side.
McCurnan, quarterback, run all the way, and he gets to the 47-yard line.
Chargers really like that QB lead running right behind their strong part of that offensive line.
Jesse Mendoza, fifth year senior at center, 65-295, Zach Affalter, 6-4-330.
So there's some big boys on that right side of the line that the Chargers like to exploit.
Second down in nine, Hillsdale, at the Dragon 46.
motions from left or right.
McCurnan rolling right.
Looking, looking,
pressured, finally just throws it away.
Third down and nine.
It's a nice stiff arm by McCurnan.
Survived to throw the ball away.
Nearly a sack by that defense.
He's going to set up third down and nine.
And we'll see what the Chargers call here.
Unfortunately, when it's a throw on second down
and you don't get some yards out,
out of it. These third down and longs
really make this offense one-dimensional
when it really depends
upon the run. On that first drive, they did a great job of staying
ahead of the chains, picking up three, four yards
on first and second down each.
One away from that here to start this second drive.
McCarren, back to pass on this third and nine
throws. He's wide open at the 40,
30, 25, and down to the 20-yard line.
There was the dragon defender on that
half of the field.
not sure what happened there clearly a miscommunication on defense and ruddy is wide open to pick up the first down
and that's a coverage bust for tiffin and the one guy you do not want to leave open was wide open
four 25 left in the first quarter hillsdale seven tiffin seven mccurnon in the gun
rabid owen skirt to the far side now rabidot motions from near far to near to give to geese
you up the middle.
And he gets to the 19-yard line.
Tiffin defensive line is doing much better on this drive,
holding their own up front against the good offensive line by the Chargers.
Now Hillsdale, using the clock to their advantage, taking their time.
It really seemed like Tiffin on that last possession played some more hurry-up football.
So we'll see how that offense comes out on their next possession as well.
It's a quarterback run all the way on this second down at nine.
And a huge block from Gishu at the 19-yard line flattened the outside linebacker.
And his helmet just came flying off.
And the crowd loves that one.
It's a great block by Gishu, setting up his quarterback for a nice eight-yard run.
Third down and short coming up.
Boy, oh boy, that's the type of stuff you want to see from this offense,
especially those skill players, taking some pride in blocking.
I think a part of the game that's often overlooked, third down and two,
chargers at the Tiffin 12, ruddy motions from near side to far.
And McCurnan's going to try to run for the first down.
I don't know if he got it.
It's going to be fourth down in a foot.
And I have to believe field goal range.
And it looks like they will kick.
Wow.
So chargers are not going to chase points.
They're just going to take what he's given.
And it'll be a 30-yard field goal for Dylan Dadario, the sophomore from Elkhart, Indiana.
2.22 left in the first quarter. Good snap from Likins. Good hold from Skura.
And the kick is no good.
Hillsdale 7, Tiffin 7, so no points on a promising drive.
If I'm the Chargers there, I really would have gone for that, I think.
That's about a yard, maybe even less fourth down.
You've been getting good push up front.
Trust your offensive line to go get you that yard.
Kicking has been inconsistent this year.
I think that's a play you got to go for.
So here comes this Tiffin offense.
They're going to start their second possession of the game at their own 20.
Mack in the gun, Blackman to his left, 2.15 left in the first quarter.
Mack, back to pass, looking to the far, comes back to the near,
incomplete, Schenadvy on the pass, break up.
Second down in 10.
It's good coverage by the Chargers backside defense.
Good hold up front by the offensive line of the dragons,
gave him time to pass, but nothing really open there for Mac.
Second down in 10. Tiffin at their own 20, give the Blackman up the middle.
And he spins away from Jensen, gets out to the 33-yard line before Panola brings him down.
But that's enough for a first down.
So Blackman's showing why he is the G-Max best running back there, two broken.
and tackles by an Air Force transfer and Chenevy.
Two of the best tacklers on this Charger defense.
So now first down in 10 for the dragons at their own 34.
Mack in the Gun.
Now there's flags flying and whistles blown.
And that is something that this spread offense number 74.
Bobby R. Kennedy.
And that is something that this spread offense cannot.
handle and that is pre-snap penalties are difficult to overcome when you want to speed up the place.
First down in 15, Mac pitches it out to Blackman, cuts it up, and Blackman fighting all the way to the 40-yard line.
What a tough run there from the fifth year senior out of Lincoln, Ohio.
My goodness.
That run set up by great blocking on the perimeter.
The tight end cracks down on the defensive end,
and the guard pulls to the defensive back.
Set up a huge gap.
So second down in four.
That's a 40.
And a little quarterback run there for Max.
Going to bring up third down in three.
We don't call a lot of spread offenses in the GMAC.
This is kind of fun to watch.
A little difficult to call, honestly,
because you can't really comment much on the.
the previous play because his tiffin offense is already lining up 34 seconds left in the first
quarter back in the gun this crowd's getting into it now blackman to his left two receivers
to the near side one to the far and now mac communicating with the offensive line and there's
some miscommunication and tiffin's going to take a time out talk this one over with 18 seconds left
It's a third down and three for the dragons at their own 41.
You know, we should check some scores around the nation for Division I football.
I will be very interested to see as I load up BSPN how Tommy Carr is doing against Indiana.
What do we think, Joe?
I watched the beginning of that game before coming over here, and he was struggling a little bit.
Through an interception early, fumbled the ball.
but that Michigan defense was doing well, holding Indiana to only six points on two drives that they had deep in their own territory.
And still, three minutes left in the third quarter, Indiana six, Michigan, nothing.
I think Indiana's overrated.
And I think the Huskers let him get away with.
They sure did.
O'Graths should have had that one.
Third down in three.
Tiffin at their own 41 and to get to Blackman running left, and he gets out of.
to cross to 45 and enough for a first down.
Right away, I think Blackman is showing why he's one of the best running backs in the GMAC.
Multiple mistackles caused every run.
Absolutely.
That's great penetration by the Hillsdale defensive line.
Got up the field and they blew up to play, but he just made a miss and he turned it into a game for first down.
And that's the end of the first quarter.
Hillsdale 7.
Tiffin 7.
You're listening to Charger Football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale.
serving fans, it's time for our miracle.
Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor.
Here's Jinnah Suhita.
On February 20th, 1945 on Iwo Jima,
Private First Class Jack Lucas and his three companions
were sneaking towards the front lines when they were suddenly ambush.
Two grenades landed directly in front of them,
and Private Lucas unhesitatingly hurled himself upon one grenade
and pulled the other under himself,
absorbing the force of the explosions in his own body
in order to shield his companions.
amazingly, Lucas survived the explosion.
He had just had his 17th birthday, six days earlier, making him the youngest Marine to receive the Medal of Honor.
Lucas enlisted at the age of 14 without the permission of his mother.
He lied to the recruiter about his age, claiming he was 17.
But by his inspiring actions on Iwo Jima, the young man protected his comrades and enabled them to continue the advance.
For his valiant spirit of self-sacrifice, private first class Jack Lucas was awarded the Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor on Radio for Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium on the campus of Hillsdale College.
I'm Ted Ferringer alongside me's Joe Van Cat.
Start of the second quarter, Hillsdale 7, Tiffin University 7.
And Evan Biennick of the Chargers side is going to be penalized for an off-sides.
And now Tiffin will have the ball in Hillsdale territory at the 49.
So what stood out? What are the main points from the first quarter?
The Tiffin running back Ronald Blackman is for real.
Already 31 yards of rushing in that first period.
First down in five for the Dragons.
They're at the Charger 49.
Mack delayed handoff give up the middle and that'll get them to the 45 and bring up a third down and short.
I do a great job disguising these runs.
Nice little draw play there.
A wide open gap.
Second down in short.
Mack throws across the middle and it's caught all the way down to the 21 yard line.
As I'm going down and look at the name of that running back that came in.
Daniel Weems, a great run, by the way.
The pace of this Tiffin offense is impressive.
Hillsdale does not look ready to handle this pace that the dragons are playing with.
Their defense is just not ready when this ball is snapped.
Just a great play call there from the Tiffin coaching staff.
And now Mack is going to split outside.
We have the running back.
Daniel Weems in at quarterback in a wildcat formation of his first down in 10 at the Charger 23.
And Weems looking for the outside running left.
He has some room, a burst to speed.
And he goes into the end zone for a touchdown.
But there's a penalty marker on the field and it's going to be coming back for a hold.
He went in the end zone.
untouched, but that's because that
wide receiver on the outside
had a hold of the defensive back
didn't let him get out to make the play.
And the
perennial problem
off the first of final,
the perennial problem of
trying to run outside is just
the increased propensity
of holding calls are
devastating
for football teams.
So first down in eight for the dragons.
Throughout the Charger, 21, 1356 left in the second quarter.
Hillsdale 7, Tiffin 7.
Both teams battling for playoff contention.
Tiffin currently only has one loss in the GMAX, so they're fighting for conference title contention.
Ponola on a blitz.
But Mac gets it out, throws it out to the far side, and that's enough for a first down.
McKinstree on the grass.
The 6-foot-6-215-pound receiver.
These Hillsdale defensive backs are giving a lot of cushion to the dragons on the outside,
and they're taking advantage of it, picking up five, six yards at a time before the defense is even ready to make a play.
First down in 10 for Tiffin. Max splits out again.
Weems in it, quarterback. It's Wildcat formation.
Dragons at the Charger 12 wings. First up the middle.
sink for the goal line. Touchdown
Tiffin University.
It's a great patient run by Weems.
His original hole was plugged up.
He bounces it to the other side of the field,
heads up to middle.
And it was an impressive drive.
It was an impressive drive
from this Tiffin University
offense, creative, I would say.
I would call it a creative drive.
A couple wildcat calls.
You had a draw play at about midfield that then was followed by a quick to the line in under six seconds for another play.
I mean, just beautiful, beautiful execution by this spread offense really reminds me of what Scott Frost was trying to do at Nebraska back in the day,
modeling off of Chip Kelly from Oregon.
Did not work at Nebraska.
It could work.
if I would be coaching a football team, I'd probably run spread, no?
Would you not be a spread offensive coordinator if you had to pick an offense?
As Rudolph's extra point is up in good.
If you have the offensive personnel to do it, sure, but that is not the case in Nebraska.
So now Tiffin Leeds Hillsdale, 14 to 7, 13, 15 left in the second quarter.
Now, Hillsdale went down by seven.
They responded well.
McCurn and company drove all the way down the field and tied it up at seven.
Now they have another opportunity here to respond.
And what they did on that drive that was successful was the slow, methodical pace.
Positive plays on first down.
Get ahead of the chains.
Don't let this Tiff and defense stay on schedule.
So if you're the charge of,
that's what you're looking for coming out of this next break.
You want to keep the same momentum you had, run it up the middle,
take advantage of the defense where you have an advantage.
Yes, you can see the defense is huddling right down here below us,
and the boys are not happy with their performance on that last series.
But very early in the game, only the start of the second quarter.
So a lot of game left.
But if the Chargers want to qualify,
for the Division 2 playoffs.
They're going to have to probably win out.
And this is one of, if not, the last really big test on their schedule.
So now Rudolph kicks it away from Ruddy.
Fielded at the 29, run up to the 35.
I'm being very careful not to kick it to Ruddy today.
I really don't know why teams are kicking.
to begin with. Last week,
a huge matchup here at Frank Moneywater's Stadium
against the 15th ranked Finley Oilers
and Finley was kicking it to Ruddy.
So Tiffin did their homework, not taking any chances.
First down in 10, four Hillsdale
at their own 35. McKeown and in the gun,
Gishu 2 is right, three receivers in the airside, one to the far.
McCurney, back to pass, throws to Gishu,
and he's pushed out of bounds at
the 38-yard line.
Two polar opposite offense, offenses.
Hillsdale really taking their time, huddling between every play,
getting the play clock down to under 10 seconds most of the time.
The chargers have a size advantage at offensive line.
So we'll see if they can take some ownership here in the trenches.
second down in seven, charges up the 38.
McCurnan sprint out to the left, looking for running on a double move, but he sacked.
And he lost the football.
And it's covered, recovered by Tiffin at the charger, 38.
And now McCurney is shaking up on the field.
And that is not good news for Hillsdale.
It's good to see him hop up and walk off the field.
Hopefully just got his win knocked out.
out of him. You really can't afford to lose
another quarterback if you're the Chargers.
And the Hillsdale crowd does not
like that hit at all.
So here
comes Tiffin.
Kane Mackin
company trying to add to this seven point
lead. Tiffin 14, Hillsdale
7. First
down in 10 for the Dragons at the
Hillsdale 38. Mack in the
gun. Blackman in the backfield. Give to
Blackman. Patiently waiting
the hole gets down to the 36 yard line.
Second down and long.
And they're going quick again.
Second down in eight.
Tiffin at the 36.
Mack back to pass, looking across the middle, caught by McKinstree.
That's a nice ball by Mack right into the gap of the zone.
Jacob Bance had a play on the ball, but just passed his fingers.
And Diffrance hurrying it up.
First down and 10 for the dragons at the Hillsdale, 26.
Give the Blackman.
And he runs down inside the 20 down to the 19.
So here we go.
1145 left in the second quarter.
Mack, the starting quarterback for this dragon offense, directing traffic,
trying to get on the ball here.
They're snapping the ball with about 10 seconds.
Lining up and getting ready for the next play to give to Blackmun.
and up the middle churns those legs.
He gets down to the 18-yard line.
And now the dragons look like they're getting nice push-up in the middle.
Hillsdale had the advantage in the first quarter in the trenches,
but Tiffin really taking it to him now.
And there's an injured Tiffin offensive line and on the field,
and we're going to take a timeout as well.

Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium. I'm Ted Ferringer, alongside Joe Van Cat. Tiffin 14, Hillsdale, 7-11-16 left in the second quarter. So there's still an injured Tiffin offensive lineman at the 20-yard line. It's a third down in three for this Tiffin offense who really picked up some steam at the end of the first quarter and into the start of the 30-yard line. It's a third down in three for this Tiffin offense.
who've really picked up some steam at the end of the first quarter and into the start of the second quarter.
So we'll see what the play call will be for this Tiffin offense.
It's military appreciation day here at Frank Muddywater Stadium.
We're honoring all current active military members and veterans.
We had a flyover before the game, and I must say, boy, oh boy, our planes cool, Joe.
That one especially, Ted.
What a beautiful plane flew in the Vietnam War.
It was a old piece of American history.
That was really cool to see.
Third down in three, Tiffin at the Hillsdale 19.
Mac in the gun gives it to Blackmun.
He's running left.
And he's got enough for our first down churns all the way down to the 13-yard line.
What a strong run there from the senior from Ohio.
Blackman's had several of those where he gets hit at or just past the line of scrimmage,
and he just keeps his legs churning and turns it into a pickup of three, four yards,
and it's enough for a first down there.
He will probably be the best running back.
This Hillsdale defense will face all year.
First down in 10 for the dragons.
They're inside the red zone at the Charger 13.
It's a give to a Tiffin receiver running right tackled by the G-Mack defensive player of the week last week.
Luke Panola had 17 tackles against Finley.
That's a great read by the linebacker Panola there.
Disguised the run by fake handoff to Blackmun who's been getting the brunt of the carries
and they handed off to the receiver coming across.
Second down in 10. Tiffin at the 13.
give to Wienes.
And a great tackle there from Jacob Vance.
Another captain on that Hillsdale team.
And that'll be a third down and a long situation.
A third down in nine to be exact.
Only a gain of one on that previous play for this Tiffin offense.
This is the first opportunity where this Hillsdale team has really been able to expect to pass coming.
So we'll see how this back end of the defense holds up.
Tiffin at the Charger 12.
This Hillsdale defense needs to stop.
The Dragon's trying to add to a seven-point lead.
Tiffin 14, Hillsdale 7, 918 left in the second quarter.
And Tiffin's going to call a timeout.
They're going to want to talk this one over.
Third down and nine.
You are at the Hillsdale 12.
What is Joe Van Cat drawing up on his man?
Madden. A little
HB toss to the left.
Maybe run on third down
and nine, see how far you get if it's
a fourth and short, then
I think I'm shooting for the end zone
here. So far, this Hillsdale secondary
has been susceptible up the middle.
So I'm sending my tight end right up the seam.
Maybe have another
receiver in the slot coming right
underneath him on a slant across the middle.
We'll see what the
dragons draw up, but I think
they're going to take an actual pass here
and not leave this one on Blackman.
A beautiful afternoon here in South Central Michigan.
It's parents' weekend for Hillsdale College.
And right after this game today, Joe and I will be working the event for the Catholic's first Protestant soccer game, known as El Classico.
It should be a good one.
If you're a student and you're listening to this, broadcaster show up 6 p.m. Hayden Park.
Here we go.
We're down in nine for this Tiffin offense.
They're at the Charger 12.
Mack in the gun, Blackman to his left.
Mack, back to pass, throws, caught.
And touchdown, Tiffin.
What a throw by Kane Mack, who got hit by Jacobance as he threw it.
It's a nice playfake by the Dragons.
fake the toss out to the left to Blackman,
and they're going to throw a great ball
right across the middle as he gets hit by the linebacker Vance.
Josiah Raber on the grab,
did a great job of reaching across the goal line.
And now Rudolph on to attempt the extra point.
It's up in good.
Piffin 21, Hillsdale 7906 left.
Second quarter,
you're listening to charge your football right here.
here on Radio Free Hillsdale.
He's instituted some pretty sweeping reforms in our school.
Like what, Connie?
Like taking the gum machine out of the cafeteria.
What will you hear?

And Sundays at 3 a.m. on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium. I'm Ted Ferringer. I'm joined by Joe Van Cat.
Hillsdale Trails Tiffin, 21-7-906 left, second quarter.
Number six, Indiana leads Michigan six to three, 14, 12 left in the fourth quarter.
Low-scoring game in Ann Arbor, my goodness.
It's a classic Big Ten defensive battle.
A defensive battle or a battle of two bad offenses?
Probably a little bit of both.
I'm surprised Indiana is struggling.
Maybe Michigan's defense is really that good.
They've got a great defense, especially up front.
Great defensive line.
So Rudolph, to kick this one away, it's going to be a pooch kick away from Reddy,
but it's still going to find Reddy at the 20.
He's running left.
He has some good blocks and hit down at the 44-yard line.
I think maybe if he got past that tag,
goal he would have gotten deep into
Tiffin territory
this charge of special team just finds ways
to get the ball in his hands even if they
kick it away from him even if they kick it on the ground
he still gets the ball in his hands
and he still brings it out for a good starting
field position for the charges here
first down in 10
four hillsdale at their own
42 mccurin in the gun gisheeshoe
in the backfield with him
ruddy and carrico split out to the
far side stand to the near
now carrico
motions from near to far get to guicheu and he bounces off some tacklers gets out to the 48 yard line nice tough run from the sophomore from
Texas that's exactly the kind of thing that was working for the charges on their first offensive drive where they scored that touchdown
stay ahead of the chains pick up good yards on first down keep the whole the whole playbook open for themselves
He's a 48-yard line.
Second down in five. Chargers at their own 48, 8-29 left in the first half.
McCurnan in the gun.
Man, Ruddy, one-on-one to the far side.
We'll see if McCurnan looks that way.
Kinesni motions from left to right.
McCurnan, quarterback run all the way.
And he fights to the 49-yard line.
Third down and four.
And Garicoe checks into the game.
Rabido checks out.
Chargers are going to need this first down.
This is four-yard territory in my mind.
A third down in four.
Two chances to get four yards.
Just average two yards, and you get the first down.
Here we go.
Chargers at their own 49.
McCurnin back to pass, looking for ready.
across the middle throws, but the ball is deflected as McCurnan went to wind up to throw.
Great pressure there from the Tiffin defensive lineman.
And now Chargers are going to have to punt this one away.
That's not what you want to see at this point in the game.
You're down by two touchdowns.
Hillsdale 7, Tiffin's 21.
Down two touchdowns.
Haven't been able to stop the dragons on defense, really.
Josiah Raver.
So Josiah Raver back deep to receive this punt,
standing at his own 11.
Dylan Dadario to punt from the 35 to low punt.
It's going to roll down.
Oh my goodness.
He's going to roll down all the way to the four-yard line.
So a nice punt from DeDario.
Bill, that's a four-yard line.
Ian Woodard usually is the punter,
but they've used to D'Dario.
He's a bit better at half.
having more of those Aussie style kicks low and away from the punt returner to try to trickle down inside the five.
And DeDario did his job there.
First down at 10 for Tiffin from their own four.
Mack in the gun.
Wienes to his right.
McKinstree to the nearest side.
Two receivers to the far.
725 left in the second quarter.
Mack is standing in his own end zone.
It's a give to Weems, and he's going to fight to the 8-yard line.
A violent tackle from Seth E.
He is on that play, the defensive end for these charges.
My goodness, second down in six, so a four-yard run nonetheless.
Tiffin at their own eight, Mac, and pistol.
Wains in the backfield, it's another gift to him.
And he goes nowhere.
I saw an obvious hold on Davis on that play.
No call by the referees.
Third down and six.
Third down and six, the Chargers really need a stop here.
Down two scores already.
Only six minutes left.
In this second quarter, you can't afford to give up the first down here.
You're the Chargers.
You need to stop.
So here we go.
This Franklin Water Stadium crowd trying to make
impact. Third down and six. Panola showing blitz. Mack in the gun. It's a gift of
Williams running left and he's got a lot of space and enough for a first down out to the 18 yard line
before he's hit out of bounds by Schenevy. But move those chains and if you're a Tiffin fan,
you are clapping right now. That was a nice play. It's a great blocking on the perimeter on that
far side of the field by the wide receiver and the tight end crashing down and creating a great
lane for him to run through.
First down in 10 for Tiffin at their own 19.
Mack in the gun.
It's a gift of the Wien's running right.
And he has so much room to the left side of that defense all the way out to the 28-yard line.
Had great success running to the perimeter here.
Up the middle, Hillsdale's had a little bit more, a little bit more of an advantage.
But on the outside, these wide receivers are holding their blocks well and creating lanes for their running backs to run through.
Boy, oh boy, this offensive line is blocking well for the Tiffin Dragons.
Play action, Mack throws it across the middle on the second down in short,
but it's going to fall incomplete pressure there from Shennevy from that corner position.
And now it's a third down in one.
Tiffin at their own.
It's 29, 523 left in the second quarter.
Last week, these charges had a lot of success on third down and one.
We'll see here if they can keep that up,
and they can get a stop here for Tiffin to punt the ball.
It's a wildcat formation weems in as the quarterback.
It's a direct snap, and it's a fall start on Tiffin.
It's going to back them up.
And that'll help out the chargers a little bit on this third down.
It's a good push up front by the Tiffin offensive line,
and it looked like they would have picked it up.
So very fortunate for these charges.
So now a third down in six.
Mass substitutions for the Tiffin Dragons.
Tiffin trying to add to their 14-point lead.
They currently are leading the Chargers, 21 to 7.
Five minutes and 21 seconds.
Five minutes and 21 seconds.
Thank you.
The clock will start on the side.
So now we have some clock.
Difficulties and that's quickly fixed.
So here we go.
Another third down.
We'll see if the charger defense can get a stop.
Mack in the gun.
Leams to his right.
Blitz thrown from Panola.
Mack back to pass.
Looking, looking throws incomplete.
Intended for Raber across the middle on us when.
He was open, but the ball was a little too far to the outside.
And now.
Pass rush by the Chargers forced him to speed up a little bit and couldn't follow through all the way on his throw, which led to an errant pass.
Great push up front by the Chargers defensive line.
And they'll get the ball back to five minutes to go.
Ruddy waiting for this punt all the way back at the 30-yard line.
518 left second quarter.
Chargers will not receive the second half kickoff.
So the ball bounces at the 40.
and Chargers will have decent field position at the 31.
So Hillsdale drove down the field in the first quarter, tied it up at 7,
and then Tiffins had 14 unanswered points.
So the Chargers trying to cut into this two touchdown deficit.
They have plenty of time to do that.
509 left second quarter.
Can't get sped up here if you're the Chargers.
You've got plenty of time to keep the ball on the ground
to do what's been working for you.
You don't need to air it out too much.
McCurnet in the gun,
Gishu, to his right,
Ruddy, Carrick, go to the far side.
McCurnin, quarterback lead.
And he gets up to the 41.
Ilsa's going to have to be careful.
Get a touchdown here
and try to run the clock down
and then get a stop after halftime
and then get back into this game.
I've been impressed with this
Tiffin offense overall, and the defense has been holding its own in the trenches.
Its offense is unlike anything Hillsdale's had to face so far this year.
This really punched him in the mouth a little bit.
Second down in five. Chargers at their own, 36.
McCurnan rolling against the grain, looking, looking, and just sprints out.
At the 36.
And now it's another third down for the charge.
Huge play here if you're the Chargers.
You have to pick up this first down.
You have to assume, based on the rest of the half,
that if you punt this back to Tiffin, they're going to score,
so you really can't afford that if you're the Chargers.
The two names to keep an eye on, Ruddy and Carrico,
are both to the far side on this third down and four.
Chargers at their own 37 McCarrenan, back to pass, looking for Ruddy.
And now he's pressured and set.
all the way back to the 30 yard line.
And Tiffin is going to force another punt out of this charger offense.
It's not a lot open on the backside, and McCurnan just holds onto the ball a little bit too long.
This Dragon's Pass rush has been given on the fence back there.
So now Ian Woodyard checks in as punter for this.
Special teams
unit
320 and
counting left in the second quarter
it's a booming
punt from Woodyard
it's going to be fielded at the
25
and a couple missed tackles
and Tiffin
will have good starting position
at about the
34
in their own territory
three minutes
left. Tiffin can move
down the field pretty quickly and they can
score with not a lot of time remaining
and set themselves up.
Three score lead going in a half time and
they'll get the ball coming out too.
Chargers is going to have to use that. This charger defense
is going to have to use that momentum that they really built
up on the last possession. We'll see if they can get a stop
here. First down in 10.
For Tiffin at their own, 34.
Mack in the gun, Blackman,
two is right. It gets through the near
side. Motion from Raber
from left or right. Pitch out to
Blackman.
A huge collision with him
and Colin Morrow
with the line of scrimmage.
Second down and long.
That's the best push that they've had up front
on this Charter's defensive line.
Stopped Blackmun for no gain, which hasn't
happened very often.
Second down in 10.
Tiffin still at their own,
34 Mac back to pass.
Fires in at the 40-yard line.
Nice grab there from McKinstree.
Third down and one.
one, especially with the spread offense, you live in the third down and one range.
Absolutely.
And this is the backside of the Charters defense.
They're playing a very soft zone right now, and they're able to find gaps in there pretty easily if you're Kay and Mack.
He hasn't had much trouble fitting the ball into these windows.
Third down and one, Tiffin at their own 38.
The clock is it probably going to wind down to the two.
minute warning.
And we're going to take a time out with them.
Tiff and 21, Hillsdale 7.

Hillsdale's trailing Tiffin University 7 to 21 with two minutes to go in the second quarter.
order.
Charger defense looking for their second consecutive stop as the Hillsdale offense is still
looking to cut into this 14 point deficit.
Tiffin to receive the second half kickoff, so Chargers defense is going to have to get a stop
and then Hillsdale is going to have to get some points on the board before half time.
Back in the gun on this third down and one.
Tiffin at their own 38.
Blackman in the backfield of Mac.
Mack, back to pass.
A huge hit by Colin Morrow.
And on a fourth down and one.
On a fourth down and one, that's exactly what the doctor ordered.
Dial up some pressure from the secondary and get the offense back out on the field.
I got to say, I'm a little surprised that you throw the ball there if you're 10.
You have your old G-Mack running back.
You can only need to pick up a yard.
That's probably what I would have done if I were them.
So Ruddy back deep to receive the pun.
He's waiting at his own 14, above 55 left in the second quarter high punt,
fielded by Ruddy at the 16-yard line.
148 Hillsdale down by two touchdowns.
The chargers are going to have to play.
a bit faster than they're used to.
They still have all their timeouts,
but you need points,
any kind of points,
to cut into this two possession deficit.
With only a minute 48,
they've got to air the ball out a little bit,
and they've had very little success
against this Tiffin defense with passing the ball.
Their front is getting pressure on Hillsdale.
Their defensive backs are playing good coverage.
So we'll have to see something change if you're the Chargers.
First 10 and 10,
4 Hillsdale at their own 17,
McCurney in the gun.
Gishu to his left,
give the Gishu running right.
And Gishu gets out across the 20 to the 21-yard line.
And the clock's running now.
It's going to be under 90 seconds,
so these substitutions for Hillsdale are going to have to go.
Chargers do not seem to be in much of a hurry.
Just run 20 seconds off at the clock.
and they're still huddling at the 15-yard line.
I am very shocked by the speed of play so far.
We've just lost about 40 seconds.
Now 1-10 left in the first half.
McCurnin back to pass, moving up in the pocket.
He finds some blockers, and a burst to speed cuts it up to the 38.
So now with 101 left, it's going to stop the clocks momentarily.
And now the clocks wind again.
First down and 10 for the chargers at their own.
39. McCurnan in the gun.
It's 1 V1 with Ruddy at the far side.
McCurnan looks to the near and the ball falls incomplete pass intended for Carrico at the 47 yard line.
And it stops the clock for this charger offense.
But about 45 seconds just evaporated off of the scoreboard.
And you've only moved about 15.
yards up to field. If you're the
Chargers, you can't have that time lapse
during this second quarter
with only 49 seconds left.
You've got to be moving the ball quicker than this.
Second down in 10 for the Chargers.
Caricoe motions from left to right.
Chargers still at their own 39. McCurnan
back to pass. He cannot take a sack.
Fires it towards Scura.
And it's called
incomplete.
Scurra looked like
he had both feet in.
Ruddy's calling for a challenge.
And Coach Shreffler
declines to throw the red
flag. Probably smart to keep that in the back pocket
for later in the game.
And now it's a third down in 10 for Hillsdale
at their own 39.
Another 1V1 between Ruddy
and a Tiffin cornerback here at the near side.
Cornerblitz, and it's a quarterback run for Hillsdale.
And they're going to get up to the 43.
Check that 44.
And Hillsdale does not seem to be calling a timeout, even with the clock running.
It might be content to let this go into halftime.
And very interesting strategy here from Hillsdale.
On a fourth down in five, they're going to call the time out and punt it away.
And Hillsdale is content to go into the half down by two touchdowns.
That'll do it for the first half.
And that's it.
Tiffin 21 Hillsdale 7 will be back for second half action right here on Radio Free Hillsdale.
Welcome back to Frank Moneywater Stadium at Hillsdale College. I'm Ted Ferringer, joined by me's Joe Van Cat.
Unfortunately for me, my voice will probably be gone before the game of the week.
Catholics versus Protestant 6 p.m. Hayden Park. If you are a student or faculty member listening to this broadcast, make your way to Hayden Park.
Hayden Park tonight, 6 p.m., where the Catholics will try to score their first goal in four years.
I know Joe will be pulling for the Catholics.
Are you coaching?
No, you're working as crowd control.
I am.
I'll be working tonight.
So if you're a fan, make sure to go throw some punches.
Please don't.
We need to have Joe in a precarious situation throughout that game.
So a kickoff there from Dylan to Dario, fielded by McKin.
history all the way out to the 29-yard line.
And
Chargers are
going to have to have some short-term memory
after a pretty rough
first half.
But with that being
said, Tiffin really played a
smart first half overall.
I mean, the defense got a touchdown
out of a pick six.
And the offense has really impressed me.
One of the few spread offenses in the
G-MAC, efficient,
productive, adding two more
scores and that's how we're at the current score line kiffin 21 hillsdale seven mac in the gun blackman
to his right to give to blackman running left and he stopped at the line of scrimmage
luke pinola on the tackle second down in 10 great penetration by that defensive front again by
the chargers love to see if they can keep that up in this whole second half they had their flashes
in the first half they just couldn't sustain it and now tiffin's slowing up a bit huddling at the
ball spotted at the 29. Mack in the gun. Blackman's who's right?
Mack, play action. Looking across the middle, finds a man, completes it to him,
but Jonah Jensen on the coverage in the quick tackle for a short gain of two yards.
Third down and along. The charges can get a three and out here to start this second quarter,
this third quarter, excuse me. That would be a great sign coming out of the locker.
room.
Hillsdale
crowd trying to get
into this one.
Third down in
eight.
Tiffin at their own
31, Mac in the gun.
Back to pass, looking to his right,
fires.
Incomplete,
Chenevy on the coverage.
And boy, oh boy.
The dragon's sideline is
beside themselves with the,
they really wanted a pass interference,
but it looks like...
I saw a lot.
A lot of contact, but the ref is going to call it uncatchable, I think.
It's quite a ways over the head of the receiver, and even though there's a lot of contact, no flag.
So Tiffin's going to punt this one away, ready, waiting for the punt, at his own 30, 13, 42 left, third quarter.
We'll see if the Chargers go for a block.
Tetler last week, Zach, Tetler nearly had a block against Finley.
It was called back.
Good punt.
It's going to stop at the Charger 31.
So we'll see if the second half adjustments,
halftime adjustments rather,
will work out against this stingy tiffin defense.
When the Chargers had success in the first half,
they were good on first down, running the ball,
picking up three, four yards and staying ahead of the chains.
You're going to need to recreate that here.
in the second half as much as they can.
First down in 10 for the
Chargers. They're at their own, 31.
McCurnin and in the gun.
Stanton to the far side, ready to the near.
Now, ruddy motions from near to far
to give to ready on a jet sweep, running to his
right. Tripped up at the line
of scrimmage. It's a great tackle
there from the Tiffin
secondary, second down
in 11.
Not a lot of jet sweep looks
with Ruddy.
I believe that was the first of the game.
I think you're right, Ted.
That's something that they've done a lot in the past.
They're going away from it today.
And now Hillsdale breaks the huddle on this second down 11.
Chargers at their own 30.
McCurnan in the gun.
McCurnan, looking towards Carrico,
balls batted and floating precariously up in the air,
but it falls to the turf third down and long.
It's the third ball of this game that McCurton has had batted down at the line
or popped up in the air by the defensive linemen for the dragons.
Even though they're not necessarily getting back there and hurrying the quarterback,
they're doing a great job getting their hands up and just disrupting the passing lanes.
1250 left third quarter.
McCurman trying to convert on this third down in 11.
Ruddy in motion.
McCurnan looking that way, throws it towards Ruddy down the field,
and it's incomplete balls underthrown,
and Hillsdale's going to have to punt it away.
That's a great recovery by the defensive back for Tiffin.
Number 20, Jeremiah Moore.
Ruddy looked to be wide open,
and he got there just before the ball and disrupted that play.
And Ian Woodyer to punt this one away.
and it's a three and out for Hillsdale,
a start they did not want to have.
How's that Michigan game looking, looking, Joe?
13 to 6, Indiana.
Over time, Michigan's got the ball, third down and nine.
So we'll see if Tommy Carr can
gut out a victory at the big house.
Nice punt from Woodhirt.
It's going to stop at the Tithin 14.
1235 left third quarter tiffin 21 hillsdale 7
Chargers already got to stop to start out the game to start out the second half
and now tiffin
will trot out onto the field their offense looking for their second possession of the game
trying to cash in some points add to this 14 point lead back in the gun
Wemes to his right motion from Rotor.
Max steps up in the pocket and he sacked.
Drake Badger and Evan Beannick on the play.
And the quarterbacks brought down all the way back to the nine-yard line.
Tiffin really going away from the run in this second half as well.
Very surprisingly, we had a lot of success in that first half,
given the ball to Weems and Blackman.
And now Tiffin goes.
quick. It's a throw out in the flat to
Wienes on the second down
in 14. So Wimes
will get out to the 16 yard
line and bring up third down
and medium. Nice play there. I mean
they keep you, they catch you
napping. I mean, I look down for a second
look back up and the play's already going.
And they're really doing a great job of keeping
this Hillsdale defense guessing.
They never know what's
coming.
Even on his third down in
seven yards, they could very well be
a run.
Third down in seven, four,
for Tiffin.
The dragons are at their own
16. Mac, back to pass,
moves up in the pocket,
jumps, and throws
incomplete, nearly intercepted
by Jonah Jensen.
And the Hillsdale defense
is standing strong to start out this
half, giving opportunities
for this charger offense
to cut into this 14-point deficit.
They sure are. Great adjustment.
made in the locker room and they've come out and had success up front against this tiffin offensive line and ted the game just went final in ann arbor 13 to 6 indiana beats michigan
as a nebraska fan i offer my condolences if you're a michigan fan but i really don't feel that bad since you guys just won a national championship in 23
We won a championship 30 years ago.
So 29, Ted, don't sell us short.
I can't do math.
I'm a history student.
We read a lot, supposedly.
And with AI, no, I'm kidding.
I do not use AI.
Yeah, shout out to Dr. Yost class, though.
He's making you guys write like scribes and monks in the middle ages.
That's pretty sick.
It's very cool. It's a nice, nice project to work on copying a manuscript by hand.
Are you going to do the binding for extra credit?
I did not. I ran out of time, unfortunately.
I'm a big extra credit fiend, honestly.
How much is he going to give? A couple points?
I really don't know. He didn't say.
How was the midterm with that class?
Not too bad. He was rather kind to us.
He could have made it much harder than he did.
Second down in seven for these chargers at their own 49.
Wildcat with Ruddy in at quarterback.
He follows his blocks nicely in the Tiffin territory.
That's enough for a first down at the 46.
So great job from him.
And the Chargers moving the ball up to field now.
I guess if you're going to run quarterback lead all the time,
maybe just put Ruddy in as the quarterback.
He did a nice patient.
running there for the senior from temperance
and that moves the
chains for the chargers
first down and 10 for them
to Tiffin 46, 10 minutes left, third
quarter McCurnan under center
to give to
Gishu and he's immediately hit
but does a nice job of
leaning for a first down
first, sorry a one
yard gain
some strong running by Gishu's
met in the gap one on one by the linebacker
and he manages to
break the tackle, avoid a two-yard loss, and turn it into a gain of nearly a yard.
And now second down in nine. Chargers at the 45 of Tiffin.
Hillsdale, 7. Tiffin, 21. McCarine in the gun. Ruddy in the backfield with them.
Now Ruddy splits out to the near side with Kinesny.
Rabidot to the far side.
McCurnin. Back to pass, looking across the middle, fires it to Kine.
Nesney at the 35.
And that's enough for a first down.
Best throw of the day for McCurnin.
Tight coverage on the tight end.
But it was a perfectly placed football.
That's good coverage once again on the backside by Tiffin.
But this offensive line for the Chargers gave McCurnin all day to throw the ball.
And eventually, Kinesne came open and he delivered a dart.
First down in 10, four hills.
Dale to Tiffin, 36.
Ruddy back in and quarterback in a wild.
Calcat formation to give to Carrico running left, cuts it up, breaks a tackle at the 30,
and he's running back the other way to the 20, 15, 10, 5, and it's a touchdown, Hillsdale.
The Owensboro native juked out the entire Tiffin defense, but there's a penalty marker at the 11-yard
line. That's going to break my heart, Joe.
What a run by Hutt Carrico.
Great play design, first of all, by the Chargers.
They had Ruddy split out to the right and handed off back to Carico,
and he went all the way up the left sideline back across the field to the right corner of the end zone.
But it does look like this one's going to come back.
Now the referees are talking with Coach Treffler.
and the crowd's cheering like it's going to count.
So we'll see what the flag is for.
Carrico with one of the more creative runs I've ever seen.
A salmon.
A salmon.
Like in a river.
her, like, feeling the current and then jumping around the rocks and stuff.
I mean, that was just unbelievable.
From the view up in the press box, it was a very cool angle to see
because the entire Tiffin defense over-pursued on that play.
It looked like Carricko was dead to rights.
There was no way he could get out of that and score a touchdown,
but he snaked his way through the entire Hillsdale and Tiffin teams back.
all the way across the field, into the end zone, and it's going to be 21 to 14.
Hillsdale's got some life, and now let's see if the defense can keep up the momentum that they've built on the last two drives.
Exactly what the doctor ordered.
My goodness, some momentum needed to be pumped back into this crowd.
I was thinking of a river trout, honestly.
Do salmon? Sammons live in the ocean, correct? I believe so.
Salmon live in rivers too, I think. I have no idea.
Oh my goodness. I do not study biology. I can't do math. I don't know what I'm good for in today's world, honestly.
But with 823 left, third quarter, Hillsdale 14, Tiffin 21.
Didario is kicking this one at midfield because of the penalty on the personal foul.
So I'm assuming he's going to kick this through the end zone.
No, squib kick.
Field it at the five.
And it's a big return.
Oh, no.
Nearly brought back.
Alex Lee with the tackle at the 30.
No, check that 26-yard line about.
No, 27.
Great tackle from him, though.
That could have been bad.
Man, oh man, this field in the last two weeks has seen some wild special teams plays.
If I do save myself a lot.
In the last two weeks, we've seen two kickoff returns.
Personal fouls.
A blocked punt that came back.
I mean, last week against Finley was wild.
First down in 10 for his hiffin at throne, 27.
Mack in pistol, Blackman in the backfield with him.
It's a give to Blackman.
He gets up to the 28-yard line.
So we'll see how Tiffin responds.
After Hillsdale cut the deficit to just one touchdown.
And once again, great push up front by this Hillsdale defense.
They're really containing the dragons in the second half.
And so now Tisdiff.
Ivan's taking their time a bit.
Slowing down the pace.
Second down in eight.
Ball to 29.
Quarterback keeper fooled the entire Charger defense.
And Max sprints out to the 35 for a third down and short.
And that'll wind the clock.
Chargers are doing a lot of defensive line substitutions.
It seems almost first and second down.
they're putting in a line and then they'll change him out for a third short.
So we'll see if the Chargers can get a stop here.
Third down in two.
Tiffin at their own 35 Wildcat.
Blackman takes the snap, running left, looking for the first down and he's going to get it.
Out to the 37-yard line and that's enough for a first down.
move those chains.
They really seem to like this wildcat look
for the dragons, where you put weems
or
Weems or Blackman back there under center.
And they have a tight end
lined up right next to them and just follow
the tight end into the gap. Pick up two,
three yards seemingly at will.
First down in ten,
four Tiffin at their own, 37.
Mac,
play action looking to his right throws incomplete it was behind his tight end second down in 10
it's a great pass rush by neil lichens there off the edge get his get his arms up in the air and

second down in 10 630 left third quarter
Mack in pistol Blackman in the backfield with him.
It's a give to Blackman.
And he stopped at the line of scrimmage.
Third down and long.
This Hillsdale defense is coming alive in this third quarter, folks.
So here we go.
Chargers trail, the Dragons 14 to 13.
21.
Defense trying to get a stop to get this offense to tie this ball game up.
Mack, back to pass.
It's an all-out blitz from the Chargers.
It's a screen pass.
And it's a tackle by Panola.
He tackles Blackman a couple yards short of the line again.
And that might be the play of the third quarter, if not the whole game.
if the chargers end up coming back.
That is great pursuit of the ball carrier
by reigning Gene Mack,
defensive player of the week.
Luke Panola.
They had three blockers in front of him
and wide open grass if Panola doesn't make that tackle.
Force down in three.
Ruddy waiting to receive the punt at his own 20.
It's a low punt, fair catch sign called by Ruddy
at the 23.
and 22 to 20 yard by it looks like the ball was following for 23.
And here we go.
We'll see what Colin McCurton and the boys can draw up on this play.
The Wildcat worked really well on that last possession drove right down the field and scored.
It really did.
Given the dragons a taste of their own medicine with the Wildcat formation.
First down in 10 for Hillsdale.
At their own 23, McCurton and the gun, ready to the near side.
It's one-on-one down there.
Keep an eye on that.
509 left third quarter. Tiff in 21, Hillsdale 14, quarterback lead to the left.
And McCurnan looking for the edge. Maybe he gets one.
And he does. He'll get out to the 25.
And so now the chargers are going to huddle up, take their time a bit.
4.55 left in the third quarter.
he'll so break the huddle now ruddy's moved to the far side of the field with carrico
scura's now one-on-one to the near side mccurton another quarterback run
and he fights out to the 32 no check that 28-yard line and now it'll be a third down in five
it's back-to-back runs right up the middle for the quarterback here
Not playing super aggressive on this drive.
We'll see what they draw up here on third down and five.
Now all the receivers are to the far side.
Ruddy, Karakow and Skirah, third down and five for the Chargers.
At their own 28.
Ruddy motions from left to right.
McCurnan throws it to Ruddy.
That's enough for a first down.
Move those chains out to the 35.
Ruddy just settled down in the soft spot of that zone and a great strike by McCurnan.
And now we have a new running back in the game.
Connor Vermeulen checks in Hillsdale.
Boy, oh boy, taking their time.
Waiting for that play clock to get under 20 seconds to snap it or at least to break the huddle.
Here we go.
Wildcat formation.
First down and 10 for Hillsdale thrown.
35.
Running right.
Cut it up the field.
and he gets out to the 36-yard line, gain of one on the play.
And McCurnan checks in.
Blake Hayward and Vermeulen check out.
That prior play, the Wildcat formation with ruddy running behind Vermeulen and Hayward,
the two big running backs for this charger offense.
It was only a short game.
second down and nine. Chargers at their own, 36. McCarman. In the gun, Gishu to his right. Ruddy, one-on-one down here to the near side. Now he motions in towards the line. McCurnan, looking towards Ruddy, rolls to his left, cuts it up the field and a huge hit at the 41, 42 rather, but. Chargers are going to have to back up 10 yards. Chargers are going to have to back up 10 yards.
Hard. Tough penalty on that play. It seemed like the Chargers had some life to start out the possession with getting a first down. But now it's going to back them up all the way to the 26.
234 left. Second quarter, Tiffin, 21, Hillsdale, 14, second down and 19. Chargers now at their own 26.
Chargers have to look for a way to exploit these one-on-one matchups with Ruddy.
McCurnin, back to pass, pressured, moves up in the pocket, throws downfield, caught by Will Simpson at the 41.
Great ball by McCurnan, escapes the pressure in the pocket, gets out, and delivers a strike on the move.
Hit Simpson right in the hands, does up a third down in medium.
Third down in fourth.
Chargers at their own, 41.
The charge's really taking their time in the huddle here on this third down.
And Metzger, Carrick, go to the nearest side, ruddy one-on-one to the far on this third down and four.
McCurnan, back to pass, looking for Metzger on a double-covered receiver.
I mean, his double coverage near.
intercepted and brought back the other way.
He's very lucky. That's not six more points
for the Dragons. That is not a good
read by McCurnan.
Woodier to punt this one away.
Raber
is going to receive this
punt, awaiting to
receive rather, at his own 18.
13th, 3rd quarter.
Low punt, it's going to bounce to the 26.
And go down all the way inside the 10,
down to the 5-yard line.
So a nice punt there from Woodyard.
These charger punters, both Jedario and Woodyard,
really doing a great job of pinning the dragons
deep in their own territory and giving their defense
an advantage here to start out this drive.
Now the Charger offense is going to have to be looking for this defense to get another stop in this third quarter.
They've held this dynamic offense scoreless so far.
One 17 left third quarter.
First down in 10 for Tiffin at their own five.
Mack and Pistol, Blackman in the backfield.
One receiver split out to either end.
To give to Blackman.
and he goes off the right side to the nine-yard line.
It's a good pickup of about five on first down.
Keep these dragons moving, stay ahead of the chains.
They'll look to keep doing more of that.
Now we're under a minute left in the third quarter.
Second down in five.
Tiffin.
Mack rolling out.
Oh, throws to Blackman out in the flat.
It was behind him.
The ball was popped up.
nearly intercepted third down and five.
This charge your defense, man.
Colin Morrow went for the hit on Blackman and didn't realize that the ball was
tipped up in the air.
He could have had a pick six there.
Third down in five, tipping at their own 10.
50 seconds left.
Third quarter.
Tiff in 21, Hillsdale 14.
Mack in the gun, Blackman to his right.
Mack, looking out to his left.
complete intended for Raber and that charger defense is going to get another stop.
Another three and out forced for this.
Tiffin offense.
Jane Mack is having a really tough time in the backfield right now.
This charger front is getting great pressure and he's just not on the same page as his receivers.
The receiver broke in, Mack threw it out and there's nobody even near that ball.
So Chatton to punt this one away, standing in zone, end zone for Tiffin.
Chargers looking for the block.
It's not a very good punt.
It's going to be fielded by Ruddy at the Tiffin 36.
So it's going to be a short field for the charger offense.
So hopefully they can get some points out of this with 42 seconds left in the third quarter.
First 10 and 10 for them.
Man, on this first down, hard play action.
Look for just crossing around across the middle or something.
Watch ruddy out of the backfield here.
He had a jumpstart this drive.
First down in 10.
Chargers at the Tiffin 37.
So it'll be a short field.
McCurnan in the gun.
Carricko in motion.
Give to Gishu up the middle.
And he fights to the third.
33 and the offensive line pushes him down to the 32.
And the dragons end up with the ball.
But it looks like the referees are going to call it.
The forward progress of Gishu was stopped before the fumble.
And the Tiffin sideline was beside themselves.
They could not believe the call.
So it looked like the charges caught a break.
there. And with under 15 seconds left in the third quarter, we'll see if they get one more
playoff in a second down in five at the Tiffin 32. McCurnan running it up the middle,
fighting to the 30, and that'll be the final play of the third quarter. Hillsdale 14, Tiffin,
291. You're listening to Charger football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale.
Welcome back to Frank Moneywater Stadium.
I'm Ted Ferringer alongside Joe Vancatt.
Start of the fourth quarter, we've got an interesting one here at Frank Moneywater Stadium.
Tiffin leads Hillsdale, 2114.
And it was a really good third quarter for that charger defense, not allowing any points from Tiffin.
It really was.
I think only one first down for the dragons in that whole quarter.
Great stand by the charge.
charge of defense and let's see what the offense can do here so here we go on this third down and
three mccurton back to pass moves up in the pocket and it'll be tackled at the 32 are the 33 router
so that's a three-yard sack and now a fourth and six what do you do here joe you're at the tip in
33 land here you have to go for it the charger's kicker might have the leg but
so far he has not had the accuracy.
And even though it's fourth and six, it's a pretty long fourth down.
The offense is going to stay on the field.
Fourth and six, here we go.
Hillsdale at the Tiffin 33.
McCurton in the gun, back to pass, throws looking for runny and incomplete.
The ball is a little too far outside for the temperance native.
That's a turnover on downs on a rather short field for,
this charger offense, and now this Hillsdale defense is going to have to get another stop in this half.
If you're the chargers, you hate to not take advantage of that short field and get points.
But the defense has held strong so far.
They're going to rely heavy on them again.
So Mac in the gun, weems to his left, two receivers to the far side, none to the near.
First down in 10 for Tiffin.
kids to weems running right and he's strung out by cost davis all the way out to the 25-yard line
we're shaking up on the play but the ball did come out looks like they're going to say no the ball did not come out
he was down first so it's going to be second down and 15 for the tiff and dragons that's some great
pursuit from davis i mean the offense is struggling this defense is
standing strong, just pursuing him and not letting Wienes get outside.
So nice play from him.
Second down in 15.
Mack is sacked.
The ball's out.
And the ball's on the ground.
The ball's on the ground at the 19-yard line of Tiffin.
We'll see who came up with it.
And Tiffin recovered.
But Evan Biennick in on the sack.
As well as Neil Likens.
And it's a third down in long, third down at 24.
This defense is playing championship level football right now.
This defense is doing everything they can to keep the charges in the game.
They need something out of the offense on this next drive.
Tiffin at their own 19, Mac in the gun, Blackfield in the backfield with them.
And it's just a run up the middle to Ronald Blackman.
and Tiffin's going to have to punt this one away.
What a great possession by this charger defense.
Two plays of negative 14 yards,
and then you give up only six yards on the surprise run up the middle,
and you're going to get the ball back for your offense.
They've got to take advantage here.
So it'll be a fourth and 19.
They're coming out for the punter.
They are.
It looks like Hillsdale is showing like they're going for the punt.
Block.
Rudolph with a low punt going to bounce and roll out at the Charger 49.
So another great field positioning for Hillsdale.
I think Carrico might have gotten a finger on that ball,
which made it come off of his foot weird.
Only out to the 50-yard line.
The Charger's going to have half of the field already behind them.
They got to take advantage of this field position.
12.08 left in the game, folks.
Don't go anywhere.
We've got a good one here in Hillsdale.
Tiffin, 21, Hillsdale, 14.
Chargers at midfield, first down in 10.
McCurnin in the gun, Gishu to his right,
ready to the nearest side, scur to the far.
To give to Gishu, and he runs up the middle to the 41.
A gain of eight, so he'll be spotted at the 40s.
I sure thought he leaned to the 41.
And two.
And now Hillsdale.
They have some momentum.
That's exactly the start they need to this drive.
Establish yourselves up front in the trenches.
Give yourself a chance to take a shot here.
Second down and two.
Chargers at the Tiffin, 42.
Ruddy in motion give to Gishu.
And Gishu gets to the 40.
It's like they're going to mark him just short.
third and half of a yard.
30 and
third down and a foot.
So now we have more substitutions.
Spinazzi checks out.
Kerrico checks in.
11 minutes left in the ball game.
Tiffin fighting for their GMAC title contention.
Chargers fighting for playoff contention in Division 2.
McHeran in the gun.
Ruddy in motion on this third down and one.
To quarterback run all the way.
That's enough for a first down.
Out to the 36-yard line.
McCurnet slipped down.
It looks like he could have gotten another five, six yards,
but they'll take the first down all day.
And now the clock will be under 10 minutes here.
Before you know it,
Chargers trying to tie this ballgame up.
They trail G-Mack 5.
Tiffin University, 14 to 21.
And now we're in the money time.
The last 10 minutes of the ball game.
We'll see what the Chargers drop here on this first down in 10.
McCurnan back to pass, looking to his right.
He's going to throw down the field looking for Simpson.
It's going to be pass interference on the freshman wide receiver at the 20-yard line.
And that's going to move these chargers, 15 more yards.
and get a first down.
So we'll see, I'm assuming it's past interference.
And because it was beyond 15 yards, it'll be placed at the spot of the foul.
And that'll put it at the 24.
And that'll put it at the 24-yard line.
10-09 left.
Fourth quarter.
You can just feel that this charge of the crowd is hungry for a win.
McCurnan in the gun.
Ruddy one-on-one down here to the near side.
McCurnan looking that way, he's going to throw it up towards Ruddy.
And the ball's overthrown, uncatchable.
Second down in 10.
I like to see them trying to take advantage of these one-on-one matchups with Ruddy or Carico that they've got in all game.
But on first down, I'd like to see them get ahead of the chains a little bit.
Give that ball to Gishu.
Pick up four or five yards if you can.
Set yourself up in a better position than second, third down and ten.
Second down in ten for Hillsdale.
At the Tiff in 24, they trail the Dragons 14 to 21.
McCurnet in the gun.
calling for motion.
Now Metzker goes in motion
and to give the
Gishu and he
ran into the tackle
of Hillsdale.
That would have been more yards
on that run if that had not
that collision had not happened.
Third down and nine.
Chargers at the Tiffin,
23.
9.43 left.
Fourth quarter.
Boy, oh boy, if that collision
did not happen.
I think Gishu could have gotten a first down.
So here we go.
Big third down.
Ruddy in motion from right to left.
McCurton in the gun.
Timeout called by Hillsdale.
Man, third down in nine.
You're going to have to go for it on fourth down.
I would like to see a wildcat on third down, right?
Would coach Joe call a wildcat on third down?
down at nine? I don't know, Ted. I think you've had success over the middle, finding these
soft spots in the zone. I think maybe you'd send ruddy, send him right up at the middle,
have him sit down in the opening again like he has on those past few third downs. It's worked
so far. Don't go away from it. So we'll see what Coach Otterbine draws up for this offense on
a huge third down. The Chargers looking to get back.
to the division two playoffs.
They played in a bold game last year
against Upper Iowa,
so they do have some postseason experience
within the last year,
but they want to play in the big dance,
and they're going to need this win to do that.
Third down in nine.
Chargers at the Tiffins,
one and three, running in motion from right to left.
McCurnan, looking that way,
throws it towards running.
It dropped.
Dropped it to the seventh.
17 yard line.
That's not something you see from
Shea Ruddy very often.
He had the first down
and he just got a little bit ahead of himself.
And now it's a fourth down in nine.
Chargers are going to have to collect themselves
and get this first down.
Now it's an obvious passing situation.
Ruddy, Metzger, Kinesny to the nearest side.
Carraco to the far.
Motion from Ruddy.
McCurnan looking towards Ruddy.
Throws towards Ruddy.
Double coverage and it's intercepted at the three-yard line.
And a Tiffin defensive back runs it back to the 20.
Now, ironically, or maybe if Tiffin's looking at that,
it's actually worse field position if they just would have batted the ball down.
Lost about four yards.
It was a good return nonetheless,
but if Ruddy or Metzger would have gotten a tackle,
like would have tackled the defensive back at the five,
it's effectively just a punt at that point.
But nice return there.
Tiffin will be out starting their drive at their own 29-12 left in the ball game.
And this charger defense is going to have to get another stop.
Mack in the gun, Blackman to his left.
Two receivers at the far side, one to the near.
Mac, quarterback draw.
And he gets out to the 24-yard line, second down in six.
That's two possessions for the Chargers.
Starting in-plus territory, they have not been able to turn into points.
And this defense is held very well so far in this second half.
But they've got to be getting tired.
They've been on the field a lot.
They need some help from their offense.
Second down in six.
Tiffin at their own 24.
Mack, it's a quarterback keeper.
And Max sprints out to the outside.
And he'll be pushed out at the 29th.
Third down and one.
Nice misdirection there from Tiffin.
Everybody in the building thought they were going to give it to the GMAC,
the all GMAC player.
running back in the conference, but nope, give it to the quarterback.
Third down and one.
Wildcat formation, Weems in at quarterback.
Mack is split out as the quarterback or as a receiver.
Weems, I don't think he's going to get it.
He's going to lose two or three.
How do you do?
This Hillsdale defense is playing one of their best games of the year
in this second half and it's a fourth down.
Evan Beannick on the interior of that defensive line.
Just move right past the center.
Almost untouched.
Plugged up that gap really well and there was nowhere for Weems to go.
This Hillsdale defense is playing incredibly.
Ruddy waiting at his own 35, 720 left.
In the ball game.
Fielded at the 37.
Hillsdale, 14, Tiffin, 21, 716 left in the ball game, the military appreciation game.
Parents weekend is today.
And don't forget if you are on campus, if you're a charter student or a faculty,
member, please go to Hayden Park at 6 p.m.
For the Catholic's first Protestant soccer game.
First 10 and 10 for Hillsdale at their own 37.
McCurnan is going to run to his right.
Great misdirection from Rabidow, who is in motion going the other way.
And great gain on first down, out to the 45.
It's another great pickup on first down, Ted.
And when they've kept the ball on the ground on this first down,
they've had great possessions where they move the ball well.
They've gone away from it.
When they throw the ball on first down, they get behind the sticks, and they're not able to capitalize.
Second down and two charges at their own 45.
McCurnan.
In the gun, Gishu to his left, Ruddy to the far side, stand to the near.
McCurnan throws out to Ruddy.
Flag at the 49-yard line.
There's a penalty marker, but nice grab there from Ruddy.
Really soft coverage by Tiffin's secondary.
Gary. We'll see what the call is.
Offside
Zeefeb is under 56,000
So an offside call is going to add some more to that ruddy.
So an offside call is going to add some more to that ruddy grab.
Now a first down in 10 for the Chargers
at the Tiffin 46, 625 left in the football game.
Chargers, 14, Tiffin, 20,
21. McCurnan in the gun, Gishu to his right, play action. McCurnan rolling right.
Stops up in the pocket.
Throws incomplete intended for Caracote the 43.
McCurney did a good job of holding on to the ball.
The air defensive lineman from Tiffin came in, tried to swat it away nearly on the turf.
And there's that first down throw again that I was just mentioning where now you're behind the stick second and long.
Second down in 10.
Chargers inside a Tiffin territory at the 46, 615 left in the fourth quarter.
McCurnan gives it to Gishu running right.
He's got some nice blocks churning those legs to the 43.
Nice job from the sophomore from Texas.
Third down.
Third down in about seven.
Boy, that run looked like it had more yards game than actually.
than what it actually got
often running outside.
You have to cover so much ground laterally
before you can go north and south.
Third down and seven, Vermeulen in it running back.
Ready to the nearest side, Carrico and Skirro to the far.
Chargers at the Tiffin, 43, McCurnin, back to pass,
looking towards ready, incomplete.
Ball too far outside.
What do you do at this point?
Your defense is playing great.
You're at the Tiffin 43.
Do you punt this away, pin him back deep?
Or go for it?
I think you've had success pinning them inside their 10 and you've got to try it again and it looks like they will.
So Chargers are going to try to pin Tiffin back deep, confident in their defense to get another stop.
Woodyard standing at his own 43.
Weems back deep.
Check that Rayber back deep at his own 10.
And now more flags on the field.
Part of the final.
Time about Tiffin.
They're forced in a second out.
Timeout called by Tiffin.
And you know what?
We'll take a timeout with them.
You're listening to Charger Football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale.

Welcome back to Frank Muddywater Stadium on the campus of Hillsdale College.
I'm Ted Ferringer alongside me's Joe Van Cat, 526 left.
In the ball game, Chargers trailing the Dragons of Tiffin University, 14 to 21.
So a decent punt from Woodyard is going to put the ball at Tiffin 14.
So we'll see, effectively at this point, Tiffin can get any points out of this drive.
They end the ball game.
You need one more stop out of your defense if you're the Chargers.
They've held really well in this second half.
Played a great half of football.
Just need one more.
Mack in the gun.
Weems to his left.
It's a give to Weems.
Running right.
Great stop there from Beannick at the line of scrimmage.
Second down in ten.
Beannick has had himself a great second half here.
He's got a sack, a few tackles for loss,
and is really plugging up the middle of that field really well.
Second down in eight.
Tiffin, at their 16.
4.58 left in the game.
A sack here, a turnover, a pick six, and this crowd will come alive.
A lot of people in attendance for today's game.
Blitz shown from Panola.
Two receivers to far side, one in the near.
Quarterback run all the way.
Third down and long, tripped at the line of scrimmage.
And this Hillsdale Interior defensive line once again stops them for no game.
I think, yes, the offensive line of the Dragons has had no movement up front this entire second half.
Is it crazy for me to say this is the best defense in the GMAC?
Statistically, probably not.
But the Finley game last week, the Northwood game earlier in the year, this defense is unbelievable.
Third down and eight.
We'll see if they can get one more stop.
And it's a gift of luck.
The loss of two.
He gives deweens running right.
He gets nowhere.
I think if you're Hillsdale, you sell out for a punt block here.
I think you have to.
Your offense has not been able to move the ball.
Anything you can do to give them a short field.
Even just hurry up the punter and make him punt it shorter off the side of his foot,
whatever you can get out of this.
And so now Ruddy's waiting for the punt at his own 48.
Nearly blocked. Fair caught by Ruddy at the 47-yard line.
So on comes McCurn and Inc.
company to try to tie this ball game up.
315 left in the game.
Carrico's been real close to blocking a couple of those.
A couple of those puns, and now Caracos down on the field, limping off the sideline.
That's not something you want to see if you're the Chargers offense.
November 7th, don't miss.
Charger volleyball has the end of their season.
First down in 10 for Hillsdale.
It's money time now.
3.15 left in the ball game.
They're down by a touchdown.
McCurnin, back to pass.
looking to his left and he's going to run out of bounds at the line of scrimmage.
I think you go down, you score and you go for two and win the game.
But with how good your defense is playing, I don't know if that's the best strategy.
You got to score first.
I think they got to worry about picking up this 54 yards and getting into the end zone
before they think about any of that.
First down, no, second down and 11.
So McCarney lost a yard on that prior run.
At the charger 47, McCarney, back to pass.
Throws towards Ruddy.
At the 43, it's caught, and that's near a first down.
It'll set up a third down and maybe a foot.
2.35 left in the game.
It's a great route by Shea Ruddy there,
sold that he's going long and just breaks back to the ball,
and the strike delivered by McCurton.
Great throw there from McCurnan.
And look for the charges to run that QB run right up the middle behind Gishu again here.
Third down and one.
Chargers in Tiffin territory at the 44.
McCurnan, quarterback run all the way.
He did not get it, folks.
And with the two-minute warning, now in effect,
it will be a fourth down-and-one.
At the Tiffin' 44, you're listening to Charger Football right here on Radio Free Hillsdale.
He's instituted some pretty sweeping reforms in our school.
Like what, Connie?
Like taking the gum machine out of the cafeteria.
What will you hear?
A cup of coffee.
Sanker, panke or shmanky.

Welcome back to Frank Moneywater Stadium. Chargers 14. Tiffin Dragons, 21.
Fourth down and one for Hillsdale at the Tiffin 44.
This is the biggest fourth down of the year, folks, right here.
McCurton in the gun, Hayward, two is right, two receivers to the far side.
Now Ruddy motions from left to right.
McCurton running right.
He's going to throw it.
Across the middle, caught by Kinesny at the 36-yard line.
What a courageous play call on that fourth down and one.
It's a great design on the play, too.
Everybody on the field is following McCurton.
And then when he pulls back, they're thinking the ball's going to Ruddy coming across the field,
and he flips it to the other side to the tide end who's open for the first down.
First down and 10 for Hillsdale at the Tiffin 36.
90 seconds left in the ball game.
McCurnan looking towards Ruddy.
Throws incomplete.
Ruddy double covered.
Second down in 10.
134 left in the fourth quarter.
Hillsdale 14, Tiffin 21.
Chargers at the Tiffin 36.
Good coverage on that one by Jeremiah Moore for the Dragons.
Not letting Reddy have any room to move around.
Jammed him off the line and stayed with him the whole way.
now Hillsdale can take their time that incomplete pass stops the clock they still have two timeouts in the bag
McCurney getting the play guiche he to his left three receivers the near side McCurney looking towards the
near side throws caught by Kinesni at the 38 leaps over down to the 28 yard line they're going to get up to
the ball rather quick here they want to save those timeouts and now charges going fast
McCurnan in the gun, Gisha to his right, third down in three.
McCurton, looking to the far side.
It's caught by Kinesny again.
Three catches for him in the last four passes.
That'll be enough for a first down.
It's going to stop the clock momentarily.
Now a minute left in the game.
McCurton, looking towards the sideline for the play.
Metzger and Carrico to the near side, scorer to the far.
First down to 10 for Hillsdale at the Tiffin 24.
Hillsdale 14 Tiffin 21 McCurney back to pass looking across the middle and it's incomplete intended for Metzger at the goal line.
Chargers looking for a flag there are none.
Second down in 10.
They're really letting these receivers and defensive backs play on the perimeter.
A lot of contact there.
Some hand fighting with no flag.
Chargers again that incomplete pass will stop the clock.
50 seconds left down by.
a touchdown. D2 playoff hopes have to continue with a score. McCurn in the gun, Gisha to his right,
McCurran back to pass, steps up in the pocket, nearly sacked, and he's finally brought down,
call a time out, call a time out, and they do. 40 seconds left, third down in 10,
and Hillsdale's going to talk about this one.
if you're mccurton you cannot take a sack there that one hurts it's going to be third down and long
and now hillsdale is going to have two chances to get 10 yards you have one more timeout remaining
third down in 11 you're not quite inside of the red zone yet you're at the tiffie
and 24.
So you're really in no man's land.
You still have one timeout left.
Do you run it on 3rd and 11 to make the 4th down more manageable?
I think ideally they save their timeout, but that could catch them off guard.
And you can pick up some nice yards up the middle here, maybe even a first down.
I'm thinking of that draw play Tiffin had earlier in the game.
But we'll see what the play call is.
I'm assuming it'll be a pass.
40 seconds left.
Third down in 11, charges at the Tiffin 24.
McCurnan back to pass.
Looking, looking, throws.
Incomplete, nearly intercepted.
McCurnin had a man, Luke Stanton across the middle.
Fourth down in 11, 35 seconds left.
He had Stanton wide open over the middle.
That should have been a charger touchdown.
And McCurman just misfires and almost throws a pick to end the game.
coverage there from Tiffin.
Here we go.
Everything the Chargers want to do in the 2026 season.
All of the talent, all of the hard work they put in since summer camp comes down to this fourth down in 11.
Chargers at the Tiffin 24, McCurnan, back to pass.
Looking, looking, throws, and it's intercepted.
And that's going to do it.
Intercepted at the 10-yard line.
And Tiffin is going to leave Hillsdale, Michigan with a win.
And that pass rush by the Dragons defensive back coming off the far side with the Blitz.
Got to McCurn and made him speed up just a little bit.
He had, he had ruddy, but he just didn't have time to set his feet.
make the throw.
And that's going to be it.
Kane, Mack is going to take
the knee for
Tiffin, and that'll run the clock down.
No, the Chargers are going to call a timeout,
so I guess they'll have to kneel it out one more time.
And a timeout is called
by the Chargers.
And I guess we'll take a timeout
with them with 25 seconds left.
