Starting point is 00:00:09 Welcome back to another episode of Heart on the Hill, the final episode of Heart on the Hill. I have been dreading this moment and this time that I'm going to have to say goodbye to this show, but I'm excited for the future. I'm excited to move on and try new things and do new experiences and do all of this stuff. So I'm very excited for that. But this is a sad moment for me as I embark on this new journey. I leave behind an amazing... opportunity I had and that was to be the creator of this show, Heart on the Hill. And so today I'm
Starting point is 00:00:46 not going to talk about all the news going on. I want to reflect. I want to reflect together on what we've been through, what we've seen, where we're going. So I want to focus on the past, the present, and the future, not only of this show, but of this country and this world. So for the last time, without further ado, let's get into things. So I started this show with the hope of bringing in a new perspective. I looked at the media and I didn't see anyone or anything about me and what I wanted to hear. I didn't see things about how I was feeling as a young person. As somebody who is part of this younger generation, I didn't see people talking about the things I was concerned about.
Starting point is 00:01:37 I didn't see even a conservative perspective on these things. the mass media doesn't understand me, I feel. And so I still feel that way, but I felt that a lot at that moment. And so I decided, you know what, I am not just going to sit by and let that happen. We're going to start this show. We're going to do something. We're going to talk about what's going on in this country. We're going to be honest with people. We're going to have these tough conversations. And I've not been afraid. I wasn't afraid back then either to call out both sides. I wasn't afraid to say my opinion. That's what it meant on this show was, let's have these conversations. Let's be honest. Let's have these discussions. And so that's what I did from day one on
Starting point is 00:02:16 this show. And that was my goal is to really look at what is going on in the news and let's be honest with the American people. And also, why aren't we just talking about some of these perspectives? Like, these are perspectives in America that we need to have conversations about and have conversations with. Why isn't the media talking about these things? And so that's what we talked about on this show. We had the tough conversations that they don't want to have. And as I started this show, too, I really wanted to just become a better radio host reporter, right? This is, I'm in college. So for me, it was a learning opportunity as well.
Starting point is 00:02:48 And it's been wonderful. And I have learned so much in creating this show, editing this show, doing all of that. It has taught me so much about who I am and what I want to do in life. But it's also made me a more informed and a better citizen of this country. And I hope it's done the same for you. As every week, I have to look at the news. I have to understand what's. going on. I can't just walk in here not knowing anything. I have to be able to understand what is
Starting point is 00:03:15 going on in our current political situation. What is going on in our country? What is happening here? What is the pulse in this country and in this world? How are things changing? And as I've been doing this show, things have changed a lot. I mean, I've now, this is the second president I've covered on this show. I have been able to talk about President Biden and President Trump. I have been able to have conversations on both of them and talk about where we are as a country and where we're going as a country. I mean, I started out. President Biden was in office and we were seeing chaos. We had the war in Ukraine starting up. We had an Afghanistan withdrawal that was ridiculous and shameful. I mean, we saw the chaos in the economy. We saw the confusion in the country. We saw a president
Starting point is 00:04:02 who the Democrats wouldn't say was on the decline, but who was declining. And then eventually we saw the 2024 early on in the election, he had to drop out because he couldn't do it. And the American people hadn't been told that for years because the mass media covered it up. But we talked about these things. We had these tough conversations. We talked about what was going on in our country
Starting point is 00:04:24 and what is going on in our country. And we saw those years we're seeing now as well, a lot of stuff going on in our country. And I never shied away from these tough topics. And so that's what we did. that is what we were looking for. That was the goal of this when I first started. And I am so blessed to have had this journey up until this point. So now I want to go into where are we now, not only this show, but as a country and a world. And I think this show, I have changed a lot of my opinions over time. My thoughts have changed. That's the beautiful thing to this point today where I'm sitting here. The mica of sophomore junior year is very different.
Starting point is 00:05:11 And I think that's a beautiful thing that I've been able to have on this show. I hope you've been able to take away if you've been a listener for a while now is that people change their opinions on things. And there aren't just this and that. There are so many things to consider as we learn more information, this, and that you have to consider all of these things. And that's what I've tried to do. And, you know, people might be like, wow, his opinions have changed on some things.
Starting point is 00:05:34 that's concerning. No, it's not. That's normal. That's how people are. People don't just have the same opinions forever and ever and ever. They learn more and they consider things and maybe they have the same opinion, but it becomes more refined. They fine-tune their opinion. That's what's happened to me a lot too, is fine-tuned my arguments. That's what college is for too. It's for learning. A lot of these other institutions need to learn that and students need to learn that. You're not at school to be an activist. You're there for academics. You're not at school to be in indoctrinated, you're at school for an education. And that is why I have been so blessed here and how I think done well on this show is because I understood that. I took time to learn. I took time to figure things out and I'm still working through them and I've worked through them through this show. It's allowed me an avenue to think about things and reflect on politics, my opinions, how the world is shaped around us. And it's given me an appreciation for other perspectives and opinions because I look at it and I say, why are they feeling that way? Let's look at that. Let's look at why somebody may disagree on this or that with me. Why? What is the root of that disagreement? How can we discuss
Starting point is 00:06:45 these things as people? Because there is so much more than politics. It's people behind the politics that I care about that I want to talk about and talk with. I want to hear, why do you believe that? Because I can have my opinion, but I have a different life than you. What are you feeling? And why are you feeling that way, has something impacted you that makes you feel that way. And so we need to have these conversations. That's where we are in America right now. Look, I think we're at a critical point in our country. I do think there is a lot of divide. I think that a lot of people are still united. I think that the elections show that there is an overwhelming consensus that people want to change. But I do think there is some division in this country. I think obviously we've seen it
Starting point is 00:07:28 with this Trump administration now playing out that there is a lot of division. There's a lot of still hatred in this country and that breaks my heart but we were here in the present we need to work on that we need to listen to people again we need to as i've said agree to disagree again in this country that's where we are in the president i tried bringing that into the show i was fiery at times i would go off about this or that or whatever i would talk about these things i would go off on joe biden president joe biden i would go off on everything right but i also was never really nasty about it i was having these conversations and being honest with you. But it wasn't trying to be mean to somebody. It wasn't trying to push them down. It was trying to understand and reflect and say, here's what we believe.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Here's why we believe it. And look, there are things that do need to be called out. You have to call things as they are. You have to call out when you saw a president declining in a party covering it up and the media covering it up. You have to call these things out. You have to call other things when, hey, that is wrong. That is not what we do as a country. We have to. have to call these things out and you should. But that doesn't mean we become inhumane about it. We're all humans at the end of the day and that's what we need to focus on currently in this country. And I hope that you were able to see that through this show is that that's something I've always wanted for you to take away is, yeah, politics matters. But at the end of the day,
Starting point is 00:08:53 where people, we're human beings, we have souls, we have lives. Politics shouldn't be your whole life. It's not mine. It's never going to be. I want to have a life and have experiences with people and memories with people that transcend politics and move past politics. And so I really hope you were able to take that away from this. And where we are in the present, like, talking about this show-wise, we've gone to the point now. We're covering this new administration. We've been talking about Doge. We've been talking about upcoming elections in the midterms. We've been talking about all of these things. And as I been looking at it. Look, I won't be here now doing this show, but I've looked at where are we looking in the future? How is it looking at? I know I said I'd update you on all of these things,
Starting point is 00:09:38 and well, no longer because the show is coming to an end, but you can still take a look at these things and think about the long-term effects of somebody's not going to run for the Senate or the House. What does that mean in that district? Is that a swing district? You can think about these things. You can think, is that a swing state? What are these things? And so I hope you still do that and take a lot of these points I made about like how you look at it in the future and the implications these things have. And I hope you can continue to apply that to how you look at politics and a political lens because that's what really matters is let's look at what does this mean today, but what does this also mean for tomorrow? What does this mean for five,
Starting point is 00:10:19 10 years down the line? And as a young person, too, that was what I wanted to bring in. I've talked about this before too. I think we need to look at those long-term effects. I think a big thing I've been such an advocate for, advocate for this season specifically has been our national debt, our national debt. Our country spends so much money and we're in debt and a lot of older generations who are in Congress, a lot of these people who work in Congress, they're not going to have to pay for it. They won't be able to pay for it. It's going to fall on my generation. So let's have these conversations of how you're spending in D.C. from your generation, from these members of Congress, right is affecting me and my generation and we're going to have to pay for it and we didn't make
Starting point is 00:11:01 these decisions we didn't even vote for some of these people we weren't old enough and they've been in office for longer than we've been alive so let's have those conversations let's discuss where we're going in the future let's talk about education and how expensive it is let's talk about how the average home buyer is a lot older now let's have these critical conversations of how these things shape our country not today and not only tomorrow but in 5, 10, 15, 20 years down the line. That's what we need to talk about because these are the things that build up over time and they can change the American dream and how you can get to the American dream. We're not having these conversations. We need to be having these conversations. We need to be shedding a light on the fact that these are major issues that young people are going to be facing and that we feel like sometimes we don't have a voice. So these are things at the present we need to talk about so we can work on them for the future.
Starting point is 00:11:54 You can't just get to the future and expect everything to be perfect if you don't work on it in the present. Live in the now, work on it in the now so that in the future, you don't have to worry about that. There will be other issues in the future you have to worry about. Get things handled. Bring down that national debt. Make sure people can afford homes. Make sure people can live the American dream out. Make sure we're getting proper education and that schools actually teach students, schools actually
Starting point is 00:12:19 educate. These are things we actually need to focus on in our country and that young people and all people should really care about is what is this doing for me? What is this doing for the next generation? What is this doing for our country? So now I want to talk about the future. Where do we go from here? Now I talked about how everything in the present can help dictate the future, can help move us to the future. But I think there is a lot more here to discuss. I think there's a lot more to the future that we need to talk about and where our country should be. So I'm just going to give you a little hope of mine where I think I hope this country is within the next several years. I hope we have our freedoms protected. I hope we make sure we preserve liberty. We preserve these things. We make sure that our country is still that beacon of hope and
Starting point is 00:13:13 opportunity, that beacon of freedom that we all love and call our home. I hope that we still protect these things because they are sacred and we are the people who defend them. We are the defenders of liberty. We are the ones who cherish and champion these values and may we never let them get away from us. May we never go against them because they are what have made us a nation and made us strong as a nation, made us a superpower, the superpower as a nation. These are the ideals and values that are.
Starting point is 00:13:49 grandparents, great-grandparents, they lived out, they had, they knew maybe if they didn't fully have them, that they could get them, that America was always moving forward, that America had perfect ideals. We may not be perfect all the time, no country is, no person, is, but we are striving for a more perfect union. for a more perfect union. That's what we should want every single day in this nation. How can we become a more perfect place? How can we work every single day to make sure that we protect our people,
Starting point is 00:14:38 that we make sure they can live their lives without the government controlling everything? Make sure they can go out and do what they want to do. lives, live out the American dream. I see in America where people have these opportunities, people have their liberties, have their lives, are able to pursue what is good, are able to look at these things and not be concerned that they can't afford groceries and prescriptions and they can't do this or that. They can live out their lives. They can buy a home. They're not worried about the national debt. I mean, this is such an idealistic thing I'm saying right now, of this. It sounds great, right? These are
Starting point is 00:15:20 hard things to achieve, but this is what I'm hoping for that we realize we reign in spending. We look at what we're doing as a country. We look at our culture as a country and we say we need to protect what we had and what we want as a country, what
Starting point is 00:15:35 we have been promised as citizens of this beautiful country. That is what I hope we get in the future. And I think we can get there. But it takes us having conversations. It takes us having discussions and it takes us having these conversations that aren't easy to have. It takes us being honest with ourselves, with our leaders, and with each other.
Starting point is 00:15:59 It takes us actually taking a stand and having these conversations. If we don't have these conversations, we can't expect things to change. We can't expect the way the status quo to be changed, to be altered. Right now our status quo is spending, spending, spending, Our status quo is huge bureaucracy. Our status quo that we have right now is, you know what, let's have all these regulations. Let's go and look at what we're doing and our culture is going crazy right now. That is not the status quo we want. We want to go back to when we had life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness at the forefront,
Starting point is 00:16:39 at the forefront of our nation and our people. And I think we're getting there. I think we are getting there. I think we're working things out like everyone. We struggle at times. Like every country, we struggle at times. But we are the greatest country on this earth. We are the most blessed country on this earth.
Starting point is 00:17:01 We do so much. We do so much. And we are so much. And we can be so much. It just takes us thinking and reflecting on these things to continue forward. And that's, I think, what we'll do. I am so thankful that I have been able to have this show as an outlet to think about these things and to ponder them. And I hope you continue to do so as you live your life, find new radio shows to listen to, and just reflect on how we move forward as a country.
Starting point is 00:17:39 So I want to just end here. I have a few more minutes left that I want to talk about things. But I just want to say thank you. Thank you so much for. taking time to listen to me talk. I know sometimes I talked about the same subject every few weeks and it might have annoyed you, but it was honestly a blessing to me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to just work through all of these things on this show. Thank you for listening for some of you so many years now. I was a sophomore when I started this, as I said, and my confidence has grown because of this
Starting point is 00:18:19 show who I am. I've grown because of this show. Everything. I've learned so, so, so, so much. And it wouldn't be possible without Hillsdale College, without the radio station, WRFH. I'm so blessed by them. Thank you so much for this opportunity. Thank you to everyone for listening. And some of you for just telling me you listen and the world to me that people actually listened and cared what I'm saying because I'm a 22 year old guy now. I was 20 back then when I started this right? What can I say? What's going to do anything impactful? But it did. It seemed to impact some people because you would talk to me about it. And you don't know how much that meant to me that people were actually listening and caring what I had to say about
Starting point is 00:19:09 these things. So always remember your voice matters. What you say matters and that people actually do listen to you, even if you don't think they are, they're listening to you. And they want to hear your opinion. I want to hear your opinion. We should all want to hear each other's opinions and have these conversations because they are so important to who we are as people and who we are as a country. And so I am so thankful that I've had this opportunity to have these conversations. And I'm so thankful you welcomed me in to your drives, maybe while you're doing chores at home, maybe if you're on a run, whatever you're doing, that you welcomed me in and you listened to this show and you gave me the chance to explain what is going on in our country and our world.
Starting point is 00:19:57 You took time out of your week to listen to me. And for that, I am so blessed, honored, and thankful. I hope I never let you down. I hope I always gave you the right information that you felt like you needed, that you could hear, that you could understand, and that you could talk about afterwards and bring up in conversations. So I am just so, so, so, so overwhelmed with gratitude in this moment. And I know it's a long thank you, but I just want to really emphasize that because it has meant the world to me. This really has.
Starting point is 00:20:36 And as I depart from here, I am excited for the future. I am blessed by so many opportunities upon the horizon. But I will always remember Heart on the Hill and this show, this radio station, I will always remember that this has shaped me so much. And it will always be of heart of who I am and in my heart. So thank you so much. Stay strong. Speak your voice.
Starting point is 00:21:03 And always remember that it takes some heart. Take some heart to get things done. It takes standing up and having the heart to stand up. So you've been listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. And this is Hard on the Hill, signing off for the last time. Thank you.
