The following is a special presentation of WRFH Sports.
Crowd is roaring. It's a sold-out game here.
Takes the three.
Passes outside to Tavon.
Tavon takes the three. Got that one.
Back-to-back three is for the chargers.
They pulled ahead by three.
Hillsdale Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM starts now.
Welcome to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM.
You're listening to Hillsdale Charger Basketball.
We're moments away from tip off where the Chargers will be taking on the Ashland, the Eagles.
And with my partner, Jack Robinson, Jack, what can you tell us about Ashland coming to this game?
Well, Ashland is one of the best teams in the GMAC, as expected.
They were the favorites to win the GMAC this year.
But they currently sit tied with Hillsdale in a three-way tie for fourth place as where both teams are wrapped up at
10 and 6 with only two weeks left in the season.
So needless to say, this is a huge game for the Chargers
if we want to come out on top of the GMAC standings in the regular season.
Yeah, Chargers coming off a huge win earlier this week against Cedarville.
Cedarville, I believe at the time, was tied for first in the conference.
It's going to be a very close race down the stretch.
You've got a number, how many, is it eight teams still at play?
Eight teams still could win the GMAC regular season title.
Yeah, is Walsh.
Walsh and Kentucky Wesleyan currently lead at 11.
and four, but the eighth-seated Treveka Nazarene right now, nine and six with two weeks left.
They could still make a push in the last two weeks.
So this is a huge game for their chargers to win.
And we'll look out to jump to an early start as we're about to take center court for the tip in a couple of minutes here.
Yep.
And as you mentioned, Cedarville, 10 and 5 in the conference.
Ashland and Hillsdale, both 10 and 6 in the conference coming into this game.
They haven't played Ashland this year.
We're unable to beat Ashland last year.
what can you tell us about those matchups from a year ago?
Yeah, last year, Hillsdale had a 23 and 5 regular season record,
but two of those five losses were against Ashland.
And more importantly, we faced them in the GMAC semi-finals
and took a loss there too.
So 0-N-3 last year looked to get in the win column this year,
but they were really a thorn in our back last year, Gabe.
Yep, Hillsdale trying to overcome Ashland in this game.
It would go a long way and moving them up in the stand.
As we are at tip off. Ashland controls the tip. That's number 10. Simon Wheeler for the Eagles. Moving it around the perimeter.
Wheeler's been their best player this year. He leads them in scoring and assisting the sophomore guard. 5'10.
Not an overly tall player, but very skilled. As As Ashland turns the ball over, Wheeler was trying to work it inside of the big man, Victor Seals.
Unable to handle it. Chargers with the ball.
Ashton Janowski bringing it up.
Chargers setting up their offense.
Get it to Ruter on the wing.
Out to Yarian, kicks it to Wudom's.
Ruter, now in the corner.
Back up to Yerian.
Janowski outside, drives it toward the baseline.
Then goes back out to Wudham's.
He drives and then dishes underneath to Yerian.
Shot attempt, no good. Ashton with a rebound and they're running.
That is Wheeler, who, oh, what a great.
Pass. Great drive inside them, dishes into the big man Searles for the two-handed finish.
Great facilitating there by Wheeler to passes it to the 6-9 center down low, easy dunk.
Yeah, that was a nice no-look passes. Ruter drives inside for the Chargers. No good. Rebound Williams.
And Wheeler has it again for the Eagles. They try to set up their offense. A screen from Searles,
Wheeler takes the pull-up jump shot. No good. Ruter rebound. He's off and run.
Woodham's behind him, hands it off, swings it to Janowski,
ball in the hands of senior Sam Vasu,
give it to Yarian and now back to Woodham's at the top of the key.
15 seconds left in the shot clock.
Vasu driving baseline goes inside, nice move.
Good finish from the senior Sam Vasu on Senior Day.
He just got a great presentation right before this game started.
He's the only senior that we celebrated today,
but he had a great baseline drive right there, scored.
Yep, at the rim.
Only graduating senior here for the Chargers is Cyril's drives it in, gets the basket and the foul.
He'll go to the free throw line to shoot one more.
He's just too big, dude.
He's 6-9-245 listed at it.
He's shooting 70% this year on-field goal attempts, if you would believe that.
Yes, Cyrils takes a lot of high percentage shots, and he's taken the free throw here, and that shot is good.
as number one Caleb Glazer
checks in for Hillsdale.
Ruter has it at the top of the key.
Trying to get it over to Sam Vassu.
He has it now back to Charles Woodhams.
Back over to Ruter in the corner.
Quick drive.
He stops it out to Vesu for three.
No good.
Rebound, Ashland.
Wheeler brings it up.
Deep skip pass trying to get Williams,
but it's knocked away by Joe Ruter.
Ball goes out of bounds.
Fasuch just missed that last three-pointer, but he's our best three-point shooter by far.
He's 43% on the year.
So we'll live with him taking those shots all day.
Yeah, he's definitely shooting a high percentage.
Ashland throws it into Searles.
Seals wants to go to work on Glazer, passes it out to Wheeler, who finishes at the hoop.
Nice little drive there from number 10, Simon Wheeler.
That duo is just too good, Gabe.
And just imagine if they had their best player, Brandon Harroway out here.
The fifth year senior came into this year,
six on Ashland's all-time scoring list,
and they've been without him since November.
The Harroway, the G-Mack player of the year, excuse me, last year,
lost early this season for the Eagles, and they've had to adjust.
Hillsdale with the ball, the Sioux has it.
It's a screen from Glazer, little pick-and-roll action,
throws it inside to Glazer,
who amidst a lot of traffic is able to get a shot up,
No good, but he draws the foul.
He will shoot two from the free throw line.
And that was the best case scenario for Hillsdale is we only have one second left on the shot clock.
I didn't know where I said a little late there, had to force up a shot, got rewarded, got free throws.
One second left in the shot clock, and Glazer didn't have a good look, but Savvy moved there to draw the contact.
As Mikey McCollum checks in for the chargers, Sam the Sue will sit down.
Glazer makes the first free throw.
7-3 game with 17 minutes left in the first half
Blazer makes a second free throw
it's now 4 to 7 Ashland up
and number three Travelle Adams with the ball
Trevelle had a great game on their Thursday lost
number one-seated Walsh 19 points as he gets a quick bucket there
taking advantage he liked his matchup there on defense
drove inside and finished for two Chargers
back on the on
offensive end. Charles Woodams with the ball
swings it to Joe Rooter.
Ruter back to Woodham's. Woodham takes
the three, no good rebound Adams.
Eagle is off and running.
Ball now in the hands of Wheeler.
Wheeler calling for the screen. He gets it,
uses it, drives around, kicks it to Williams in the
corner. Strong drive and
one-handed dunk for Williams.
Their athleticism is certainly showing
Hillsdale is going to stop them from getting close to the rim like that because when they get close to the rim,
Ashlow is shooting 51% on the year on field goal at times because they get right to the rim just like that.
So we have an end one.
And on the offensive end for Hillsdale, Reuter drives in, draws the foul,
and he will be shooting one free throw when we come back from immediate timeout.

New Orleans, Louisiana's name has just as long and significant
a history as the city itself. Known for its exciting and vibrant Mardi Gras celebrations,
its significant cultural impact, especially in music and cuisine, and its unique position in
American history, New Orleans was first established as a city in North America by the French.
Its original name was La Nouvelle Orleon, which was after Philip the 2nd of Orleon, who had briefly
served as King Louis Xteenth's Regent. The name Orlean itself comes from its original name under
the Romans when it was called Arrelianum, after the Roman Emperor Arreelian. The Spanish
acquired the area from the French in the seven years
war in 1763, and the city
was renamed to Nueva Orleans.
This lasted until 1800 when
France got the territory back.
Napoleon sold the city to the United States
in ATO3 as a part of the
Louisiana purchase. Its named
was changed to the more anglicized New Orleans
and it has been called that ever since.
This has been What's in a Name. My name is
Megan Pickcock and you are listening to Radio Free
Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back. You're
listening to Hillsdale
Charger basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Chargers down early, 11 to 6 to the Ashland Eagles.
Very important game for the Chargers to keep pace in the GMAC run here.
Joe Router was shooting the one free throw after he was able to draw the foul and finish the
basket on the Hillsdale's last possession. Everything just looks so easy for Ashland on the
offensive side. I mean, I don't think they've made a shot outside of like five.
defeat so far.
As Rooter makes the free throw
to cut it to four
points. Wheeler has it for the
Eagles, swings it to Adams.
Adams handoff to Stannich.
Right back to Adams.
And Adams' mid-range
fadeaway shot is no good. Chargers with the ball.
Cole McQuinney bringing it up.
Quick pass to Sam Vassu on the wing.
Back to Mikey McCollum at the top.
Hand off to Router.
Back to McCollum for three.
No good off the front of the rim.
Rebound Adams.
Trying to get things going quickly here for Ashland.
Wheeler has it on the corner.
They're trying to single out Mikey McCollum on the defensive end.
They've attacked him multiple times in a row here as the charges are called for a foul.
And number 23, Cooper Davis.
Cooper Davis will check in for the first time for Ashland.
Inbound to the big man Williams.
Williams back out to Wheeler.
The Sioux playing defense.
Stanich has it.
Back to Davis.
Back down to Wheeler.
Williams sets the screen, drives baseline,
kicks it to number 33,
Ethan Conley, and Ruter fouls him on the drive.
No shot attempt.
Ashton will inbound it from underneath the hoops.
So two fouls now, back to back on the Chargers.
To look to limit those moving forward as getting in the foul trouble this early on could be trouble.
Definitely don't want to get into foul trouble.
And Hillsdale is able to steal the ball on the inbound.
And Vasu takes it coast to coast the other way.
Finishes at the basket.
Now only two-point game.
Chargers down 9 to 11.
Great steal there from Glazer.
Danich has it outside for the Eagles.
Back to Wheeler.
Williams right there, ready to set the screen.
We'll see how the Chargers play it.
Great pass.
And that was an excellent pick and roll there
where he got both of the defenders to converge on him
and found his man Williams underneath the basket.
That's two points for the Eagles.
It's incredible how, at his stature, at 5'10,
he's able to pass it right over those trees,
get a guy open.
And Mikey McCollum answers with a three for the Chargers
on the other end.
great shooting for McCollum.
He's coming off an excellent game
earlier this week against Cedarville
where he was the top scorer.
The charges will certainly look to
get that outside perimeter shooting.
They were 0 for three going on to the last one.
That's how we stay in these games.
Typically a good three-point shooting team.
Nice shot there.
And Ashland answers with a three of their own.
That was Ethan Connolly.
Now 16 to 12.
Eagles still leading.
Cole McQuinnie with the ball for Hillsdale,
kicks it to Vesu.
McCollum working around.
has it now. Weiler in coverage. Back over to the Sioux.
Finally able to get the ball inside to Mikey McCollum, who makes a beautiful fadeaway jump shot over a much taller defender.
What a play for Mikey McCollum. That's like some early 2000s NBA basketball right there,
that little mid-range turnaway, fadeaway Kobe-esque looking shot.
Yep, mid-range shot from the paint. Nice move there from McCollum,
who's shown he's more than just a three-point shooter. Connolly has it, Rooter and coverage.
driving physical.
Travel.
And they call him for the travel.
A little bit of a delayed call there.
But yeah, he was trying to go to work on Router.
Ruter not giving up much.
As he kicks his foot out in frustration after that call,
but he certainly moved his pivot foot when he was in the paint.
A lot of contact down there.
Could have been a foul call.
No foul call.
Travel.
Yeah, very physical basketball between Ruter and Connolly.
As Janowski's back in the game for the Chargers,
Eric Radicevich, Big Man, has checked in for the first time.
as well.
Mikey McCollum has the top of the beat.
Over to Janowski.
Drive, kick to Vesu.
They try to work it down in the short corner.
The pass is intercepted by Ashland.
Ashland slowly brings it up.
That's number five.
Aden Gregory.
He's in the game for the first time.
Gregory, handoff to Davis, up to the big man, Sears.
Seals trying to go to work on Radicevich.
Two biggest players on the floor.
He kicks it out.
and Chargers able to get the steel on the pass.
They got numbers here.
Router bounce past to Vassu.
Nice finish.
What a great fast break drill from the charger.
That was so savvy by Vesu.
He didn't hold it for a second.
He got it, kind of like tipped pass it up right into the rim.
Never brought it down.
Yep.
Great feed from Routed to Vesu for two points.
We got a tie ball game.
16 all here with 12 minutes to go in the first half.
Cyril has it up top for the Eagles.
A little handoff to Gregory.
Gregory kicks it out to Connolly.
Connolly taking another three.
That one, no good.
Rebound Vesu.
Kicks it ahead to Janowski.
Chargers wasting no time.
Janowski.
Oh, unable to finish the shot.
Great little turnaround move to set up the mid-range jumper,
but no good on the shot.
Gregory has it for the Eagles.
Million-dollar move, 10-cent finish right there.
Yeah, that's one of the highlights
will cut away before the end of the shot.
Exactly.
Cyril has it, takes the mid-range jumper over Radisovich,
and it's good.
A little patient move there from Cyril's.
If he's hitting that shot, it might be a long day for the Chargers.
18 to 16 right now, Ashton leads it by 2.
Router has the ball on the wing.
Drivers back towards the top of the key.
Now out to Janowski.
Radisovich posting up, doesn't have the ball.
McCollum has it.
Radisovich moves out to the corner.
Now we're to Janowski.
Ruter laid in the shot clock, puts the three up.
No good.
Radisovitch offensive rebound.
Now Janowski has it.
for the Chargers.
The suit coming off the screen.
Drives baseline.
Tries to kick it to the corner, but the ball is stolen.
You get a bounce pass right there.
Yep.
Gregory has it for the Eagles.
Gets a screen from Searles.
Over to Stanich.
They really want to get the ball to Seerles.
Searles.
One-on-one with Radicevich.
He's backing him down in the low post.
Little turnaround shot.
No good rebound, Router.
Good defense.
there from Eric. That was great defense. I was going to say he started off that possession on the
three point line. I would have loved to see Radisovich put more body into him so he couldn't get
down low like that so easily. But he did a great job at that low block to stay with him. Put some contact.
On the other end, Radisovich able to draw the foul. So it'll be Chargers ball as we go to
immediate time out. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM.

1-01.7 FM. Ashton leads 18 to 16 with 10 minutes and 23 seconds left at the first half.
Been a good game so far, Jack.
It sure has, and the main thing is Hillsdale shooting one for five from downtown.
Typically a really good three-point shooting team, 36% on the year.
And we're still in this game on a very good Ashland team.
So hopefully we can start knocking some of those down and maybe take this lead at some point.
We've never led for a single second, I don't think, so far.
Able to tie it up at 16.
As the Chargers have the ball,
Garrett Bolte checks into the game.
Has it near the top of the key.
Get some movement off ball from everybody.
Radicevich now has it outside.
Takes a deep three-point shot, no good.
Rebound Ashland.
Almost lost it out of bounds there, able to save it.
Almost a little trouble with the rebound.
He'll still stealing an extra possession, maybe.
Wheeler brings it up.
Hand off to Stanich, hand off to Davis.
A lot of movement on both sides of the ball here.
Wheeler has it.
A little pick and roll action with Williams.
Williams now has it in the short corner.
It drives quickly inside and finishes the right hand.
Nice quick move there from Williams.
Very impressive, skilled move.
Nice off touch right near the rim.
Look like Nikoli Okic almost.
Didn't waste any time.
Radicevich has it for the chargers,
kicks it to Janowski in the corner.
Back up to Radisovich.
Over to Woodhams.
Woodhams thinks about driving,
then kicks it back out.
They're trying to get bolty underneath the bass
feel like they have a size advantage there and Ashton double bolting had a great look at the basket
right in front of the rim was unable to finish it then commits a foul right on the other side and then
commits a foul afterward I think he was a little bit frustrated that's a very human reaction you miss an
open shot and you want to try to make an impact play another side but too much body into him on that one
it's been quite a while since I played organized basketball but I remember that feeling yeah exactly
miss a shot on the offensive end and then you get a little frustration
Go mess up someone on the other end.
As Ashton tries to get the back door pass, it's stolen by the Chargers.
Nice defensive play there.
Charles Woodham drives inside.
Little fadeaway jump shot off the back of the rim.
Rebound Ashland.
This time I called the game, he was on fire with you.
He has a little slow start for him on this one.
Hopefully we'll pick it up.
Another careless foul, though.
And another blocking foul called on the Chargers.
This time it's C.J. Yarian.
I'm going to call him for a push on.
Trevelle Adams. Chargers a little frustrated here.
Already have five team fouls.
With 845 left to go in the first half, they're down floor.
Yep, 16-20 game.
Ashland, inbounding from the sideline.
Wheeler has it at the top of the key.
I think his man, Davis, Davis kicks it down to Williams.
Williams really working well in the pick and roll right now.
Has it inside, and he's able to get the finish, strong finish with his right hand, fading away.
He certainly finished through some contact too.
I'm a little surprised they didn't call that one with the way that they've been calling foul so far this game.
Hillsdale unfortunately turns the ball over on the offensive end.
Janowski was trying to work it inside.
Bounce pass was intercepted.
Davis has it outside deep three-pointer for the Eagles.
No good, rebound boltie.
He'll bring it up.
Point guard, Ashton Janowski with the ball at the top of the key, trying to get things set up.
Woodham's has it on the outside.
Janowski gets a screen from Yerian, Yerian.
and holding the ball at the top of the key.
Woodham's with a wide open look from three and he buries it.
There we go.
Great off ball screen there.
Get some wide open.
I'm a little surprised, though,
that the charges haven't been attacking the 510 Simon Wheeler on the other end.
With his size and stature,
I think that they would be looking to go at him
considering they're still in a man defense.
But it's been working decently fine as we're only down through,
seven and a half left.
We'll see if they look to exploit that matchup as the game goes on.
Williams has it again for Ashland.
takes it outside to Stanich.
Stanich, quick pass to Wheeler, who drives in beautiful move from Wheeler.
No way.
Oh my gosh.
No way.
That was one of the most unconventional baskets I ever seen.
He threw it up, didn't touch the backboard, and it dropped right into the hoop.
He did a baseline drive, a little reverse layup, but he didn't hit any backboard.
It went straight up in the air.
Almost touched the raptors up here.
That ball in the air forever.
Chargers have it on offense now.
Woodham's little drive-inside.
He almost completely crossed.
Trying to get it down to Yerian, but the pass was tipped.
Ashland off and running.
And Wheeler is fouled as he drives to the hoop.
Wheeler.
Did you see the burst on that?
Quite an acrobatic finisher.
Oh, my goodness.
He took off from almost the free throw line after beating everyone back in transition,
gets foul going up.
Kind of look like John Moran on that one.
Is that what you're going to do today?
That was my player cop, honestly.
If he grew like five inches or so, the athleticism is just screaming at you.
It's all about the comparisons right now.
for Jack is Ashley Leeds 24 to 19.
We're going to go to a quick media timeout.
You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM.
Welcome to the old ballgame where we talk about the past of America's favorite pastime.
I'm Tate Christensen.
Today we talk about the origin of baseball's favorite concession food, hot dogs.
At early ball games, there were no official concession stands,
but local people would sell food to fans who tended to eat things you would eat without utensils.
And at the beginning of the 20th century, German immigrants began to help shape the culture,
and people began to love their dachshund sausages,
which were served with a milk roll in sourcrow.
In the 1860s, Chris von der Ahee, a German immigrant and owner of the St. Louis Browns,
introduced the hot dog to baseball fans.
At first, they were served without buns,
and instead, customers would keep the white gloves that the hot sausages were served on.
However, the gloves were eventually not being returned,
and this frustrated the company.
Somewhere along the line the split bun was introduced,
and it fit just like a glove.
And now countless hot dogs are eaten every ballgame.
This has been the old ballgame.
Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Welcome back to Hillsdale Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
Ashland leads the Chargers, 24 to 19, with six minutes and 55 seconds left in the first half.
Chargers haven't been able to get going, shooting the ball from the outside yet, Jack.
It's incredible that we're still in this game.
They're shooting 66.5% on field goal attempts, and we're only shooting just over 40%.
It's only a five-point game.
I don't know how we've replaced those points and kept it close so far.
As Wheeler misses the first free throw for Ashland, he was fouled on the drive.
Hillsdale now has 16 fouls to Ashland's three.
As Wheeler makes the second free throw now, 25 to 19.
Cole McQuinnie will bring it up for the Chargers.
Now ball in the hands of Joe Router gets it to Vesu coming around Vesu and a little
a little post move there, kicks it back out.
The Sioux has it in the corner.
To Mikey McCollum at the top of the key.
Out to Coma Quinny.
McQuinnie takes a three.
No good off the front of the rim.
Rebound Williams.
And Wheeler, the athletic point guard, brings it up for Ashland.
He might have missed that shot, but we must have said at least 15 off-ball screens
to get guys open there.
I love the offense Hillsdale runs.
Yeah, a lot of movement.
As Wheeler's pass.
is stolen by Vesu.
Excellent defensive play from Vesu there.
McQuinney has it.
Kicks it to Router on the wing.
Yerian now at the top of the key.
Kicks it to Mikey McCollum
off the screen for three.
Ball rattles around, but
goes in another three-porter for Mikey
McCollum. That's what the charges needed.
Absolutely. Just with the doctor order
to that one, cut the lead down to three.
Yeah, 25-22 now
with five minutes and 45 seconds remaining.
And Wheeler's pass goes off.
Off the foot of the Sioux will be a kickball violation.
Good defense, but the ball stays with Ashland.
And the Sue will sit down as Glazer and Woodhams check in for the Chargers.
Adams throwing it into Wheeler.
Wheeler with Woodham's on defense.
Woodham's is an excellent defender.
Glazer now trying to slow down Williams.
He's been hot for the Eagles.
Bill Adams has it outside.
kicks it to number four and then out to Stanich.
Stanich drives on McQuinni and finishes with the left hand.
Stanich has quite a high advantage on McQuinnie there.
I think the Eagles were looking to take advantage of that and they did.
He sure does, but he's not typically an offensive player.
He only averages six points a game, but he's their best defender.
A steal and a half per game and a block per game.
Glazer has it in the post going to work.
A little turnaround jump shot, no good.
Wheeler brings it up quickly for the Eagles.
He's trying to get the ball inside.
for a second, regains control, and takes it back out towards mid-court.
I think he's trying to get the one-on-one with Mikey McCollum.
McCollum.
Staying inside his wheeler gets a little too aggressive,
trying to get the ball to Williams under the hoop.
Pass goes out of bounds.
It'll be Chargers' ball.
He just dribbled the ball out for like 25 seconds there and then made a bad pass.
I mean, I don't know.
His teammate grade on NBA 2K would have gone way down, Gabe, let me tell you.
That is a great reference.
Just a great reference.
Charles Woodham has it for the charges on the wing.
Back to McQuinnie at the top of the key.
Back over to Woodham's.
They're trying to get it inside to Glazer.
Williams is playing good defense.
McQuinnie takes a quick turnaround jump shot.
Beautiful shot from Col McQuinnie.
That was pretty.
2724.
Coming up on four minutes left in this first half.
Close game back and forth.
Chargers haven't had a lead yet,
but they're within striking distance.
Wheeler drives hard.
Doesn't get the foul and misses the shot.
Chargers have numbers here as Wheeler's slow to get back into play.
Woodhams.
Strong drive to the basket, draws the foul, just couldn't get the shot to go.
He'll shoot two free throws.
I thought he was going to get it, Jack.
Really savvy, smart move there to attack when they have a five-on-four like that.
Put pressure on the rim, very close to getting an and one there.
We'll settle for two free throws instead.
high basketball IQ play there from the veteran Charles Woodham's.
First free throw attempt.
Good.
The net didn't even move.
And the high basketball IQ stems from Kevin Bradley.
I had him for two classes, pickleball and racquetball actually.
Very smart guy knows what he's talking about,
the first year head coach for Hillsdale.
Hillsdale's head coach, Kevin Bradley.
Got the chargers right in the thick of the thing,
thick of things in the G-Mac with less than two weeks to play.
It's been impressive how Hilsda lost four starters last year,
and they're still within striking distance with two weeks left here in the regular season
to win the G-Mack.
It's been the next man-up mentality here for the Chargers.
As Woodham six to second free throw,
it's now a one-point game.
Ashland up 27 to 26.
Williams has it way far away from the basket.
Doesn't look quite comfortable out there.
Little two-man action with Davis back to Williams,
and now Stanich has it for the Eagles, and Wheeler takes it.
Under 10 seconds left in the shot clock.
Got to get something quick here.
Five.
Wheeler's going to throw up the three.
No good rebound.
Mikey McCollum moves it forward for the Chargers.
You touched upon a partner.
They just made outside passes, never looked at put pressure at the rim.
Off ball.
O' McCollum takes the three, but the charges called for an illegal screen on the number.
on number one, Caleb Glazer.
Just imagine that the NBA called that
the Warriors wouldn't have had their dynasty.
As we will go into another break,
27 to 26 with three minutes left
in the first half as you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale

down by one. It's 27 to 26 with three minutes and 23.
seconds left in the first half.
And Ashland will be inbounding from the opposite end of the court
after the Chargers called for the illegal screen on offense.
It kind of seemed like the Ashland Eagles have been gone away from feeding their big
man Victor Searles down low.
It seemed like they started off the game by looking to get him going early,
but just gone away from it.
Cyril's back in the game now as Macyo Williams sits down.
Wheeler has it at the top of the key screen from Searles.
Seals now trying to drive on Woodham's.
He's got the size advantage, and he's got the basket.
Right on cue.
Nice finish from Searles.
Yep, they must have heard your analysis.
All the way from up here, birds eye view.
Janowski has it for the Chargers, down by three.
Kicks it to Woodham's.
Ball inside to Radicevich.
Radisovitch cross-court pass to Ruta for three in and out.
No good.
That was a great look.
Ball just couldn't go down.
Great fine by Radicevich, but Routis just unfortunately.
Unfortunately, unable to make it.
Yeah, a little bit of a breakdown in the defense there for the Eagles.
Ruter got wide open.
As the Eagles work it inside, to Cyril's again, he gets Radicevich up on the pump fake and finishes.
That's two straight back baskets for Victor Searles.
I can see why you're shooting 70% for the season.
I mean, they have great facilitators able to get him the ball down low.
He has great positioning, great size, able to finish.
Very patient, too.
Takes good shots.
Radisovich has it in the short corner, trying to back him down,
a little turnaround shot.
No good.
Rebound Cyril's.
Hands it off to Wheeler,
who slowly brings it forward for the Eagles.
Ashland,
hanging on to a five-point lead here
with under two minutes to go in the first half.
Davis has it outside.
Kick to Stanich.
Kick to Gregory.
Now to Cyril's in the short corner.
He's back and down, Radicevich.
Going to work, misses the turnaround shot.
Tipped ball, rebound Janowski.
Good defensive possession for the Chargers.
Three straight shot.
on possessions by Searles.
I mean, definitely an emphasis in their last time out for the Eagles, I would imagine.
Yeah, they wanted to get him the ball as number 10.
Wheeler is called for a foul away from the play.
That'll be the fifth team foul on Ashland.
Chargers have 17 fouls.
And Sam Vasu and C.J. Yerian will check back into the game.
And it looks like we're going to take a time out here.
We'll go to a quick break.

Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. You're listening to Hillsdale Charger
Basketball. Hillsdale down 31 to 26 against Ashton right now with a minute and a half left
in this first half. Inbound to Joe Ruter. Now to C.J. Aaron at the top of the key,
handoff to Sam Vassu. He's been good today. Gets it inside. Can't find anything, though.
as to kick it out to Woodham's.
Wudham's back to Vesu for three in the corner
and he buries it. Great shot from Sam Vesu.
Great shot, great find,
and it's great for Hillsdale's. We're able to keep it close.
We've never led in this game, but we've done a great job
to keep it manageable.
Yep, Chargers still within striking distance.
Adams has it in the corner, Vesu on defense.
Trying to get around to Vesu.
Excellent defender.
Stanis now and kicks it to Cyril's.
handoff to Gregory.
A lot of movement in this Ashland offense.
Lost the ball for a second, but Adams got it back.
He's driving hard.
Two seconds left from the shot clock doesn't get the foul, and the Chargers get the rebound.
Ruder drives inside, back out to Yerian.
Quick three-point attempt off the front of the rim.
No good.
It was a good look for Yerian.
Just didn't go down.
Chargers down by two.
About 30 seconds left.
Adams brings it up slowly for Ashland.
I think they'll try to use the whole shot clock here.
Yeah, there's about an eighth.
second difference on the shot clock and game clock.
Hillsdale, we'll get the ball back, but it'll be probably a rushed look.
High screen and roll, Adams and Cirrills.
He kicks it back to Cyril's.
Thinks about the shot now is driving hard.
Oh, they're going to call Router for the reach-in foul.
Couldn't see it from where I'm standing.
Kind of just looked like Searles lost it when he was dribbling, but there was contacts,
little tiki-tacky foul, and they're in the bonus, so they'll go to the free throw line.
Yep, Cyril's shooting the one-and-one.
1 as a number of players are checking in here.
Yerian sits down for the Chargers.
Caleb Glazer will take his spot.
Almost could work out to the Chargers benefit, though.
I don't know how good of a free throw shooter he is, but there is 12 seconds left,
so we actually could get a good look on the other end before the half expires.
Cyril's a 72% shooter on the year, misses the 1-1, so he won't get a chance at a second.
Chargers moving up quickly here, less than 10 seconds left.
Wudham's driving to the hoop
and a beautiful finish from Charles
Wudoms and that should end it
that will end it
Adams threw up a shot no good
we got a tie ball game. We do have a tie ball game for the first time since it was
zero zero at the beginning
31 to 31 Hillsdale
playing a tight game against Ashland
to keep their hopes in the GMAC alive
and we will go to a halftime break
you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale on
101.7 FM. Welcome back to Radio Free Hillsdale on 101.7 FM. We're listening to Hillsdale
Charger Basketball. Game currently tied 31 to 31 against the Ashland Eagles. Jack, it's been a great game
so far. We're about a minute from the start of the second half. What was the story of the first half?
Story of the first half is Hillsdale's typical leading scores, Joe Ruder, Charles Woodham's
and Ashin Janowski combined for only eight points in the first half on.
two of eight shooting, but we still are tied at halftime.
And Ashland's shooting 58% from the field to our 42%,
but we're just getting more shot.
We have more shot attempts.
We have less turnovers.
We have more free throws.
We have more three-pointers made.
So it all kind of balances out.
And it's been a great first half.
Excited to get back into the second half in 14 seconds.
Yep.
Good defense on both sides.
A little bit of a lower scoring game than I've seen the Chargers play.
Absolutely.
Considering that Ashland put up.
over 100 points on, I forget who it was earlier this season, but they put up 105 points on
someone. So for the charges only have allowed them to score 31 points in the first half, pretty
impressive. Yeah, Ashland, shooting a high percentage, 58% from the field is great, but the charges
chargers have limited their shot attempts. They also, yeah, only have four three, four free throws
and one made three-pointer. And it looks like we are getting started here. Hillsdale will be
inbounding the ball from the sideline.
Ashton Janowski has it, and we are underway.
Charles Woodhams now quickly kicks it to Sam Vasu.
The CJ Yerian at the top of the key.
Woodham's coming around a little handoff action.
Woodham's has Sears on him.
Now out to Ashton Janowski, he takes a mid-range shot, no good.
Rebound Williams.
Williams quickly gets the ball to Wheeler, who brings it up for the Eagles.
A little screen from Cyrils doesn't use it.
Kicks it to Williams at the top of the key and then over to Adams.
Adams tries to drive baseline.
Woodham's defense all over him.
Yeah, great feat to stay with him there.
Wheeler drives baseline now on Vesu and not able to finish the reverse layup.
Rebound C.J. Earian, he gets the break started on his own.
Tries a little bit of an aggressive pass to Woodham's inside is deflected and out of bounds.
I believe the possession will stay with the charger.
Wheeler fast or is Wheeler fast, dude?
He came out of nowhere.
He was like a blur.
Did not see him at all.
I thought that was about to be an easy basket for Woodhams.
Yerian has it at the top of the key.
Hand off the Sioux drives hard, right.
High off the glass, no good, rebound Searles.
Quick kick up to Wheeler.
Wheeler has Woodhams on it.
Woodham's an excellent defender.
Now Williams with Ruder in coverage.
Vasu trying to stay in front of Adams,
gets a little fadeaway mid-range shot no good nobody's scoring yet here in the second half
woodham's has it for the chargers to genowsky to rudder the sue has it now off the screen
kick to woodham's woodham drives hard baseline he stalled under the basket looking for a
teammate and he's called for an offensive three second there three seconds in the lane just
couldn't get rid of the ball he kind of got stuck at a bad spot under the rim and no one was
really moving. Usually Hillsdale has a lot of offball movement. Everyone was just kind of stuck in the
mud. I think he got into a position where he wanted to try to shoot, but he was so far to the basket,
he didn't have a good attempt, and the defense was too good from the Eagles. You're absolutely right.
Still tied game, three minutes in to the second half. A little handoff action. Cyril's giving it to
Wheeler. Cross court pass to Williams back up to Adams. Ashland, not able to get the ball inside,
just swinging it around the perimeter here.
Yerian playing some good defense and a turnover.
Another bad turnover there.
Just, I would say, a lapse.
Just kind of didn't look comfortable with the ball for some reason.
Even though he's one of their leading scores, he just didn't look comfortable with the ball at the top.
Want to be more careful there between Williams and Wheeler.
Yarian has it for the charges, top of the key.
A little screen action with Woodham.
Woodham now has it at the top of the key.
Picks up his dribble, finds Router on the wing.
Back up to Yerian.
a lot of screening away from the ball
Janowski able to get open for a three-pointer and buries it
Hillsdale takes their first lead of the game it's 34 31
with 17 minutes and 30 seconds left
nice offense there from the Chargers yeah huge for him too to get something
rolling that's his first points to the game
Janowski definitely want to get more involved offensively here in the second half
Williams has it backing down Router and they're going to call a foul on Router
with the body as Williams was backing him down.
That's another foul on the Chargers, their first foul.
And that was something that kind of not plagued them in the first half,
but something to just be careful of as Ashland was in the bonus
for the last like around five minutes of that first half.
Yeah, we'll try to get the numbers on the foul totals for the Chargers.
I don't think anybody is in serious trouble yet.
As Seerles takes it inside against the area,
and he's able to get the tough basket.
Cut that lead to one point.
Janowski has it for the Chargers.
Over to Woodhams.
Down to Vesu.
The Chorger's leading score.
Really solid first half.
Ruder has it.
Back to Vesu.
Over to Yerian.
Yerian at the top of the key.
Woodhams off of the screen gets a good look from three.
No good rebound.
Williams.
And then up to Adams.
Ashland taking their time here,
getting things set up.
little screen and roll action, ball to Cyrils, and back over to Wheeler.
Wheeler, cross court pass to Adams.
Adams tries to drive, pull up, jumper, and it's good.
That was a nice move.
That was very nice.
And to your point earlier, Yerian's the only one with three fouls, so not too bad in terms of filing trouble.
Woodham's has it for the chargers.
Over to Janowski.
Janowski backing down, Wheeler dribbles away from it.
Nice mid-range shot.
Janowski with two back-to-back buckets.
That's big for the Chargers.
We're gonna need him on offense.
Wheeler brings it up, Vesu and defense.
Quickly to Searles, then out to Stanitch on the wing.
Trying to get it to Williams inside, but good defense from Rutter.
Now trying to get it into Searles as Adams drives puts up a high arcing layup off the glass and it's good.
That was pretty good defense, but just better offense from Adams.
Janowski setting things up here for the Chargers.
gets it inside to Yerian and then quickly back out to Ruter.
Now Janowski has it over to Wudham's on the wing.
Back up to Ruter at the top of the key.
Ruter takes a three and it's good.
First three-pointer for Joe Ruter.
Typically the Chargers leading score.
He's a little bit slow in the first half.
Gets his first bucket here in the second.
39 to 37 Chargers leading.
Yeah, that's just a six point.
And it was kind of interesting to see that Ashland moved,
decided to go into Zubb.
to start that possession, then switch to man.
We're just a little step behind the transition there.
As Seals, has it knocked away by Janowski.
It'll be Ashland Ball when we come back from immediate timeout.

In 1961, President Kennedy informed the world of America's intent to send man to the moon and back again.
Eight years later, a Saturn 5 rocket generating 8 million pounds of thrust carried Neil Armstrong,

But when it came to actually landing on the moon, with only 20 seconds of fuel remaining, Armstrong

Welcome back. You're listening to Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7.
Hillsdale leads Ashland, 39 to 37, with 15 minutes left in the second half.
Very close game so far. Wouldn't be surprised if it stays close.
right till the end. Both of these teams fighting to stay alive in the GMAC.
Ashland's last game against Walsh, their lead chains 23 different times in that game, if you
would believe that, as Walsh came away from that game and a one point win.
Walsh currently tied for the lead. Both of these teams, Hillsdale and Ashland,
one game behind for the number one spot in the GMA.
Physical play underneath, it's CERLS against Glazer, and they're going to call
Glazer for a blocking foul.
on the floor, no free throws.
Chargers, their second team foul in this half.
Ball quickly into Cerels, and a handoff to Wheeler.
Wheeler has Woodham's on him.
Woodham's able to stay in front of him, despite the quick move.
Wheeler works it inside to Williams.
He's got Ruter on him.
Tough defense, trying to find something.
A little turnaround shot, no good.
Nice defense from Joe Ruder Janowski, running it out for the Chargers.
It seemed like that shot was falling in the first half.
not that time.
Williams had a number of nice shots in that first half.
As Wheeler is called for the foul on Mikey McCollum,
that'll be the first foul against Ashland this half.
Kind of seem like much delight from the crowd,
a little sarcastic,
because it feels like Hillsdale's been called
for some tickey tally fouls on the other end
for that exact same thing,
so the crowd a little delighted that it's going in their favor as well.
Yeah, and Wheeler will sit down.
How many fouls, Jack, could you pull?
up how many fouls Wheeler has?
Wheeler has absolutely.
That's his, I believe his fourth, unless they're super fast on updating.
Either three or four.
That could be big for Ashland.
As Janowski drives in the hoop and finishes high off the glass.
That was a beautiful finish from the point guard, Ashton Janowski.
Hillsdale now leading by four.
It's 41 to 37 with 14 minutes left.
Gregory out on the wing for the Eagles.
Cross court pass to Stanich.
He drives baseline.
goes in hard against Mikey McCollum and draws the foul.
He will be shooting two free throws.
And now the third foul on Hillsdale, this half.
Right there is a good example of telling who good hoopers are
and just the average Joe Blow kind of guy.
Like me there, I'm not leading my body into that.
I'm just trying to go up strong.
I'm probably getting pinned at the rim.
him he's using like his lower body to create a little separation and still going strong
and sometimes they're able to convert that but they also get the foul in the process
these guys are they're a little bit better than us just a little bit the stanich misses makes the
first misses the second free throw chanowski has it now out for the chargers hand off to mccolum
kicks it over to ruder at the top of the key gregory on defense jenowski gets it on the wing
off a screen from woodhams working stanich in the mid-rame
and hits a beautiful fall away in mid-range shot.
Janouse, he's getting hot here in the second half for the Chargers.
That was absolutely beautiful.
That's going to be on a highlight type somewhere
as he's up to his ninth point now
after having zero in the first half.
Yeah, it reminded me of Kyrie Irving there,
just setting the guy up for a little step-back jumper in the mid-range.
Gregory has it outside, wants a screen from Searles.
He gets it.
Davis now feeds it inside to Searles.
Glazer on defense, deflected pass by Glazer.
as a ball is kicked out to Gregory for three airball rebound Joe Ruter good defense there from the
Chargers rudder directing things from the top of the key gives it to Woodham's woodham's with
Gregory on him now out to Glazer glazer to McCallum in the corner Colum hesitates then takes the
three no good rebound Cerels Gregory brings it up for the Eagles Hillsdale leads 43 to 38
We're coming up on 12 minutes left in the game.
Gregory has it on the wing, drives inside, kicks it over to Davis.
Now down to Cerels in the short corner.
He's trying to go to work on Glazer.
Glazer holds his own, forces him to kick it back out.
Now they get it back to Cerels inside.
Cerels really trying to get something going.
Turn around, shot, great finish with the left hand.
That was a nice post move.
He definitely got some off-season work from Akeem Elijah won over the off-season
because that little drop step, little spin right there, beautiful.
He didn't like it the first time.
He tried that.
Glazer gave him great defense, a little bit of a reset.
Tried it again.
Much success.
Chargers.
Woodham's has it at the top of the key.
Kicks it to Router.
Takes the three just a little bit short.
Bounces off the rim.
Hillsdale hanging on to a three-point lead here as Gregory brings it up for Ashland.
Hand off to Davis.
Back to Gregory.
Gregory drives baseline.
Woodham's closes it off.
Davis, quick handoff to Searles.
He has to pick up his dribble.
They're trying to get it back to Searles on Glazer.
Cyril's backing him down.
McCollum pokes it away.
Able to get control, kicks it back out.
Ashland takes a three, no good.
Nice defensive possession for the charges.
As Janowski, get things going quickly.
Another step back, mid-range shot.
That one rattles around, but it's good again.
and Janowski is on fire.
Force is a timeout by Ashland because Janowski is just cooking their defense.
As Hillsdale takes a five-point lead with 11 minutes left in the second half,
thank you for listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
New Orleans, Louisiana's name has just as long and significant in history as the city itself.
Known for its exciting and vibrant Mardi Gras celebrations,
its significant cultural impact, especially in music and cuisine,
and its unique position in American history,
New Orleans was first established as a city in North America by the French.
Its original name was La Nouvelle Orlean, which was after Philip the 2nd of Orlean,
who had briefly served as King Louis XIV's regent.
The name Orlean itself comes from its original name under the Romans when it was called Arrelianum,
after the Roman Emperor Arreleon.
The Spanish acquired the area from the French in the Seven Years' War in 1763, and the city
was renamed to Nueva Orleans.
This lasted until 1800 when France got the territory back.
Napoleon sold the city to the United States in 803, as a city.
a part of the Louisiana purchase.
It's named was changed to the more anglicized
New Orleans, and it has been called that ever
since. This has been What's in a Name.

Hillsdale leads the Ashland Eagles
45 to 40, with 11 minutes and
nine seconds left in the second half.
Ashton Janowski,
who, as we mentioned, struggled to get things going
in the first half, has been red hot here in the second.
He has 11 of the Chargers, 14 points so far in the second half.
I mean, he's just been unbelievable.
He hit that 1-3, and then he's hit a couple mid-range shots
where he created his own shot, which that's what's really impressive.
A lot of people can make an open mid-range jump shot open,
but he's creating separation.
Yep, creating everything off the dribble right now,
Ashton Janowski.
Eagles with the ball.
Player down, no foul called.
Searles gets it to Adams top of the key.
Little screen and roll.
Back out to Searles.
He has it up top.
Radicevich in coverage trying to back him down.
That was definitely a foul.
A very late call, but definitely a foul.
Late call, but they got the foul called on Radicevich.
Cyrils will shoot two free throws when we come back.
Going to take a quick time out.

listening to Hillsdale Charger Basketball.
It's been a great game so far. Chargers lead 45 to 40
with 10 minutes and 48 seconds left in this second half.
Jack, what do you think the keys of the game will be down the stretch for Hillsdale?
The keys to the game is just keep playing great defense.
I mean, we've earned nine minutes since the second half
and Ashland's only scored nine points so far.
I mean, we've put great pressure.
We've sent great help when needed.
and Wheeler hasn't been able to do anything in this half
and he's been limited because he has three fouls
so he had to sit out for a little bit
but typically their leading score hasn't done anything.
Yeah, they've done a great job of slowing down Simon Wheeler
up to this point.
Cyril's at the line for the Eagles shooting two.
Kind of got a nice student section going over here for Hills though.
Searles misses the first shot.
He is a 72% free throw shooter on the season.
And now he's one of three in this game.
Yeah, struggling to get it going from the line here.
He's had a solid game overall.
He makes the second one.
Boltey to pass it in for the Chargers.
Cole McQuinnie bring it up.
Both of them checking into the game recently.
A little bit of half-court pressure here from the Eagles.
Trying to get Hillsdale's offense out of sync.
Woodham's has it outside.
hit to Bolte. Bolty at the top of the key
looking for a man finds Woodham's.
Radisovich working to get
open the post. He gets the ball from Vesu.
He's got a
size mismatch there and he
takes advantage of it. Nice little turnaround
jump shot from Radisovich.
To your point,
beautiful job. He lost it for a brief moment.
Got it back, reset.
He was able to stay with the play. He was able to get a smaller
defender. Able to get Cyrils off of him.
I believe that was Stanich
in coverage.
As Cyril has in the low post on the other end, has to kick it back out.
Eagles swing it around.
Adams with a tough turnaround jump shot that he gets to go.
I was just going to praise Woodham's too because he did a great job of closing out super fast
and then moving his feet when the guy tried to dribble drive,
but hit a tough little fadeaway jump shot.
Yeah, the same way that Janowski has for the Chargers.
Not an easy shot, but Aschlin gets it to go.
47-43 coming up on nine minutes left.
Woodams has the ball, a little pull-up mid-range, no good.
Searles the rebound and Wheeler brings it up for the Eagles.
Wheeler, a little bit of a tough game for him.
Let's see if he can turn it on in the last 10 minutes of the game.
Adams has it outside.
Woodham's on defense.
Went up to take the shot and then threw it away so that he wouldn't get called for a travel.
Wheeler, hard drive inside, throws the ball up, gets the foul.
Shot no good.
He'll shoot two free throws.
I mean, there he's just kind of looking to force the issue.
They're leading scorer.
only two of seven in this game.
Not really any chance of making that layup, but drew the contact.
Looking to get something going maybe from the free throw line.
Yeah, I think that's exactly what he's doing.
Wheeler a little bit frustrated.
He hasn't gotten going scoring.
Good way to do that is to get to the free throw line,
but he misses the first shot.
Typically a 79% free throw shooter.
He's now one of three as well from this game from the line.
Wheeler a little frustrated with himself, you can tell.
Second shot here. Hillsdale leads by four. And that free throw is good. Lead cut to three.
Lequinney has it for the Chargers. A little bit of a press here from Ashland. Chargers break it easily.
And Woodhams driving to the basket gets fouled hard. A number of players go down. Woodham's will have two free throws.
Don't expect that half-court pressure. Actually, full court pressure to continue.
I mean, we just got a good look within five seconds of the shot clock from the transition offense.
I expect that to disappear pretty quick.
Yeah, Ashland, trying to speed up the tempo of the game,
but Chargers is able to get a really good look offensively off of it as Woodham's makes the first free throw.
Because we have so many unselfish high IQ basketball players that take care of the ball,
pressing the Hillsdale Chargers team is just not a good idea.
Maybe they have more length than us, but we take care of the ball.
I would say typically, yes, Hillsdale players are patient.
No not to put the ball.
Now where to not get the ball in the court so that it's easily trapped.
Eagles have it now.
Chargers lead by five.
Wheeler outside screened from Williams doesn't use it.
Drives hard, no good, no foul called either.
Wheeler's slow to get back into the play.
It's five on four.
Wheeler now back.
We kind of miss.
The Sioux drives baseline in a blocking.
foul called on number 15
Stanich. Wheeler was late
getting back in that play. We missed Wolti under
the rim, but
still pick up a foul. Not a bad possession
for Hillsdale. Yep,
as four new players check in for the Chargers,
it's Janowski, Ruder, Yerian
and McCollum.
Woodhams will stay on the floor.
Everyone else will sit.
49, 44,
Hillsdale leads with eight minutes and
44 seconds to
go.
inbound to Janowski, then up to Yerian at the top of the key.
Hand off to Mikey McCollum gets a good look from three.
No good.
Nice play there from the Chargers, just couldn't get the shot to go.
And McCollum's been really good so far today.
2-4 from downtown, couldn't get that one to go.
Nice off-ball screens to get him open.
Unfortunately.
He's an excellent shooter.
Hillsdale will take that shot every time.
Cyril's has it with Yerian.
Seerl's quick pass to Williams inside couldn't handle it,
and it goes out of bounds.
be charger ball another turnover for ashland jenowski brings it up the floor for hillsdale
McCollum gets it off a screen from rudder another screen ball now in the hands of woodham's back to
rudder at the top of the key a lot of movement away from the ball yarion has it
rudder gets it outside the three point line thinks about the shot doesn't take it gives it to
woodham's now to genowski shot clock running down eight seconds left rudder going at williams inside
a great move and he gets a friendly roll.
Nice move from Joe Ruter.
With low time on the shot clock,
it's time for Rutter to just make a move and go win,
and he absolutely did that.
I feel like Hillsdale has a lot of different players
that if you put them on one-on-one situations,
they can go and win,
but the way their offense is structured,
it's so unselfish that they move the ball around,
look for high-quality shots.
Until they don't care who scores,
they don't care who has the ball
as Ashland misses it.
Woodham's with the rebound.
The Chargers now is they want to use clock,
but they still want to score at the end of the possessions, of course.
Yerian has it at the top of the key.
Ruter with Williams on him, over to Janowski.
Adams playing some tight defense.
Good look to Mikey McCollum and McCollum buries the three
and a foul call.
Do we have a chance for a four-point play here?
Absolutely, we sure do.
Unbelievable shot.
The whole crowd, you can probably hear it,
the crowd is electric right now.
Great shot from Mikey McCollum to extend
the Hillsdale's lead to 10. They're now up 54 to 44. We're going to take a quick media timeout.

Hillsdale Charger basketball. Chargers up right now,
54 to 44 against the Ashland Eagles.
This is a huge game for them to stay in contention in the GMAC.
Chargers and Ashland, both one game behind in conference play right now from that top spot.
Absolutely. And Ashland is still shooting better from the field, even though they're down by 10 points because their turnovers. The turnover discrepancy is pretty large. And again, we continue to shoot much better from downtown and gets the line more often than them.
Excuse me, we don't get to the line more often than them, but we just shoot at a much better percent. They're only 5 of 10 from the charity stripe.
Mikey McCollum with a chance for a four-point play here as he was found on a three-point shot that he made. And he converts.
great play from McCollum Chargers now up 11 with seven minutes to go
McCombs now are leading score I wonder how many times that's happened
he was the leading score on Thursday night as well
wow a hot streak for it getting hot at the right time down
crucial part of the season here yep and a big win against Cedarville
as Adams has it for the Eagles at the top of the key
swings it over to Wheeler wheeler with a high
parking pass to Adams in the corner
Adams taking a little pull-up jump shot, no good.
Rebound Janowski.
Hills don't want to be patient and efficient on offense.
Yerian has it.
Pass to Ruter.
Gives it to Woodhams at the top of the key.
Woodhams starts to dribble, then kicks it to McCollum in the corner.
McCollum, pull-up, jump shot, no good.
Rebound Adams.
Swings it up to Stanich.
Now Williams trying to go to work on Ruter in the post.
Got a little bit of a size advantage.
but no good. Good physical defense from Reuter and a rebound from Charles Woodhams.
I like some contact there, but again, he's unable to finish down low.
Yeah, Williams had a hot start to this game, but hasn't scored in this second half.
As Stanich is called for a reach-in foul against Charles Woodham's.
Fowls now even in this half for both teams, five team fouls each.
That's only Woodham's first foul, so no worries.
there. Ruter has three fouls. He has three fouls.
Yeah, well, the foul on standage against Ruter as Janowski will drive inside and finish with the left hand.
Little reverse layup. That was a great move by Janowski to catch the Ashland defense napping.
All the physics teachers are wondering out here how he was able to contort that shot to go in.
It didn't look like he had any angle, but he still was able to get to go down.
I agree. I didn't think he at any angle as Wheeler takes a three and tries to
to sell the foul on it, but I think it was just blocked.
It was just blocked.
Shot was very short, and then Wheeler called for another foul.
That's his fourth.
We talked about the frustration fouls.
Excuse me.
That might be his fifth.
His fifth.
That is his fifth out of the game.
That's Wheeler's fifth foul.
And he's now fouled out of the game.
That is huge for Ashland, with five minutes and 30 seconds left to go.
They're without one of their best players, and they're down by 13 points.
And he'll exit this game with the game.
He'll want to forget about.
of eight from the field only six points three turnovers and three assists not a great one from him
frustrating game for wheeler router has it for the chargers top of the key quick pass to mcculham
and then to genowski genowski trying to work it inside to yarion not able to get it there's a scramble for
the ball standage comes up with it great hustle from woodham's though to try to keep that alive
now charles woodham's almost saved it for the chargers but couldn't quite as there's a foul in the
Post on the other end against C.J. Yarian.
Searles was trying to get in position, and that's another foul called on C.J.
Yarian.
You're absolutely right.
He was trying to catch it as close to the rim as possible, and it was a foul before the
entry pass even got to him.
So I believe that is the third, possibly the fourth foul on Yarian.
Yeah, that's his fourth.
Yeah, and Radisovich is going to check in for him.
Yerian a little bit frustrated.
So we have a 13-point lead with five minutes left here in this game.
Yep.
It's winning time for the Chargers.
Ball inbounded to Cyril's Redisovich in coverage.
Trying to back him down now.
Vasu quick to help off.
Pass outside as As Ashton will take a three-pointer that was not close.
Air ball three and the Chargers will imbound it.
That was number four.
Etzler for Ashland who missed the three-point shot.
Ruder brings it up.
Etzler in coverage.
Bounce pass to Woodham's.
of the suit at the top of the key.
Now over to Router.
Some screen action away from the ball.
Radicevich gets it outside.
Handoff.
Janowski trying to drive off the handoff.
Puts it up with his left hand.
Great finish from Janowski.
It has been all Ashton Janowski in the second half.
Unbelievable finish with some contact with the left hand fading away from the rim.
Unbelievable finish.
Totally unfazed too.
That's his 15th point in this half alone.
Chargers now up by 15.
It's 59 to 44.
with four minutes left and Radisovich is called for the foul.
Seriously?
He can't believe it.
And the thing is, we had a guy, we had Joe Ruder running too.
It would have been an easy transition too.
They are calling it close here in the second half.
Cyril's back at the free throw line where he struggled today,
typically a 72% shooter.
And he misses that one.
It's now 205.
That was a one-and-one shot.
He missed the first pre-throw, so he didn't get a chance at a second.
Janowski has it for the Chargers, top of the key.
Over to Radicevich, now over to Woodhams.
Woodhams waiting for things to set up, dribbles back towards the top.
Over to Janowski, out to Radisovic, thinks about the three.
Shot fake, gets him to go, and drives in.
He was close to dunking it, but he didn't just laid it in.
Great move from Radisovic.
He was like he was moving in slow motion, but it didn't matter.
fell for the shot bake and then he drove.
Nice move.
Stanich has it for the Eagles.
Back over to Adams.
Adams' top of the key, long three-pointer,
no good rebound Woodham's.
The Chargers are happy to take their time here.
They're up 61 to 44 with three minutes and 20 seconds left in the game.
You can tell they're just forced to go through Adams right now
because as we said earlier, their best player has been out with an injury
and now their lead scorer and their guard.
Sam and Wheeler is now also fought out of this game,
they're going to look to get some of his perimeter presence outside.
Reuter drives baseline misses.
Hillsdale gets the offensive rebound,
but as Woodham's kicked the pass out to Vesu,
who stepped out before he could drive.
So we have a 17-point lead?
As, yeah, Chargers 17-point lead with three minutes left.
Not looking great for Ashland right here.
No, with three minutes left, I mean,
it's going to be tough to get back in this game.
You're going to need obviously some stops at the other end
and you're going to need some perimeter scoring
or try to use the fact that they're in the bonus right now.
Either get their points from the free throw line which stops the clock
or makes them threes.
But what's our best score out of the game?
I mean, that's going to be tough.
You're really reliant on hoping Hillsdale makes some mistakes.
Exactly.
Hillsdale's, they're going to need some unforced errors from the Chargers
to get back into this game down by,
17 with three minutes left.
At this point, you have to go back against the press,
but Hillsdale's so good against presses that, I mean,
you're taking a chance, but you have nothing to lose if you're Ashland here.
If the press doesn't work, okay, you're probably going to lose anyway,
but maybe you can get a couple steals, quick buckets.
I agree.
You have no choice but to press at this point late in the game.
Chargers coach Kevin Bradley.
What do you think he's drawn up down there?
He's drawing up something to get the ball in the good free-throw shooter's hands,
someone that's safe with the ball and that he knows that they're going to try to run as much
of this clock out as possible and just yeah mainly just not make any unforced errors that's the
only way ashland can really get back in this game charges with veteran players on the floor is
the vassu rudder woodhams radisovitch and genowski ashland passing the ball in at number five
gregory gregory will bring it up three minutes left charges up 61 to
to 44.
Williams has it at the top, kicks it to Cooper Davis.
Stan, it's trying to get a position under the basket.
It doesn't get the ball.
Williams now has it at the top of the key.
Trying to set something up.
Just working too slow, though.
Gregory, yeah, they're using a lot of clock here trying to get something.
Oh, my goodness.
They're going to call Vesu for a foul against Gregory in the post.
I don't, I'm not sure I agree with that call.
Didn't see all that much there.
That's going to send Ashland to the free throw line.
They did use like 25 seconds of the shot clock on the.
that though so yeah i would think they try to get something quicker and try to get a shot outside i mean
they're just sticking to their guns though i mean that's what ashland does they score near the rim but
down now 16 points with two and a half left i mean it's just mathematically impossible to win like that
maybe not impossible maybe not impossible could be tough you're gonna have to make some three
pointers yeah gregory makes both of the one-in-one free throws it's now a 15 point game where in ashland is
pressing trying to trap Hillsdale
Woodham's patient with it back over to
Router. Get over the line. Rooters
struggled to get over the line. They just
made it in time. Janowski
now has it at the top of the key.
Swings it over to Vassu in the wing.
Back to Janowski
over to Wudams on the wing. He drives
hard into the paint.
He's not going to shoot the ball. Kicks it outside.
Five seconds left in the shot clock. Vesu
drives fired and gets
fouled. That was a great
job there to realize
that take a lot of the shot clock away, but still get into your offense. A lot of teams,
they just wait until there's like, I don't know, eight seconds left in the shot clock,
and then it's just a one-on-one ISO try to create something. No,
Hillsdale still swinging the ball around, trying to deliver the ball right to the rim.
Yep, a lot of movement, still running their regular motion on offense.
As Vesu makes the first free throw, been a good day for Sam Vesu on Senior Day.
It sure has. He's one of the leading scores, and he's hit a couple threes.
Done a little bit of everything for Hillsdale.
Yeah, and he always does.
Excellent defensive player, good shooter,
guy that can drive to the hoop,
just a good veteran, smart player for the Chargers.
Stanich has it up top,
swings it to Williams,
ball moving around now to Davis.
Davis trying to drive on Janowski,
a little step back three-pointer,
and it's good.
Nice move from Cooper Davis.
I haven't seen that from him yet.
That's what you need, though,
from Ashland, a quick three right there.
Yep.
He's now 63 to 49 with under two minutes left.
He's going to press.
Now ball in the hands of Joe Ruter.
Over to Woodhams.
It's Kevin Bradley's directing traffic.
Yep.
Back to Janowski, top of the key.
Shot clock running down, 10 seconds left.
Janowski thought about the shot.
Five seconds left now.
Radisovich.
Oh!
Radisovich gets free and the two-handed slam under the basket.
Might be the exclamation point on this game.
Because we have a 16-point lead with
Just over a minute left in this game.
Going to need some heroics from Ashland to come back.
Williams has it.
A little handoff to Gregory.
He's coming around the top of the key.
Out to Stanich who takes the three-pointer.
And a ball bounce is over the backboard.
It'll be a turnover.
Hillsdale has it.
Inbound from Rudy to Janowski.
Not a lot of pressure here from Ashland.
They're kind of just waving the white flag at this point.
I think they're waving the white flag.
Ready for this one to be over.
The Sioux has it outside.
Less than a minute left, Chargers lead by 16.
Chonowski now in the corner.
Coming off the screen, loses the ball.
Turnover there.
Gregory brings it up for the Eagles.
We're at about 40 seconds left.
Stanits, taking another three.
No good, rebound Vesu.
And possessions are numbered here in this game.
It looks like Kevin Bradley.
He's going to get some of his bench in this game for the last 30 seconds of it.
Yep, going to take a timeout.
And Sam Basu, the senior,
checking out for the last time on Senior Day.
Excellent game from Basu.
It's going to be a huge win for the Chargers.
Yeah, I was about to say we can't even emphasize enough
how big of a win this is going to be.
This is going to break a three-way tie for fourth place in the GMAC
as we're going to be standing alone at 11 and 6,
which will put us at 4th.
breaking the tie with this Ashland team and St. Thomas Moore,
as there's only around two weeks left in the regular season.
It's going to be a very tight race to see who wins the GMAQ,
but by winning this one, Hillsdale keeps those hopes alive.
Ashton on the other end, falling a little bit further behind.
They're going to drop to 10 and 7.
As Cole McQuinney has it for the Chargers, top of the key,
under 30 seconds left to play.
As Ashland with this loss, they're going to be pushed back to 8th in the GMA.
That's how tight this is.
Very tight.
Caleb Glazer trying to go to work in the low post.
Out to Boltey.
Bolty drives.
Nice finish from Garrett Boltey.
A little up and under move.
Is that Bolteer or Michael Jeffrey Jordan with that hang time to stay in the air?
He did hang in the air for a long time.
Really nice move from Garrett Boltey.
Five seconds left in the game.
Chargers are going to win this one.
67 to 49.
That is your final buzzer on senior day.
Chargers get a huge win to keep their GMAC title hopes alive.
Leading scores from the game for Hillsdale.
Janowski with 15 all in the second half.
Mikey McCollum with 12.
The senior Sam Basu with 11.
Charles Woodham's at 8.
Joe Ruder, or excuse me, Charles Woodham's 9.
Joe Ruder 8.
And then Radisovich was 6.
Glazer with two
and McQuinney with two
and I know Boltzie also scored two
hasn't updated yet
great win from the Chargers
