I'll tell you what, Gabe. That was some great defense down there in that last drive by number one. Caleb Glacier from Chargers.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Forcing two airballed free-throw, or air-balled layups there. of Blair's two free throws does not go in. This is your Chargers team. Currently four and three here in Don Tip at the Potter Arena. All six and nine. Second shot does not go. Goes out of bounds off of a Chargers foot. So Cedarville will maintain possession.
Starting point is 00:03:01 Here, Cedarville, your visiting yellow jackets are currently eight and six. Only two and three at away games, though. Both teams struggling on the road. Cedarville It's ball at the top of the key Fakes a pass Drives Puts a shot up over

Trey ball shot does not go in, rebounded by your charges. Your chargers bringing the ball back up. McQuinnie, currently the ball around the three-point line. Passed to the Glazer number one, who mussels his way in, puts another shot up, rolled out of the shot.

Starting point is 00:04:28 rebounded by number 24 Garrett Bolte Passes to McQuinnie who takes it up the court For your Chargers McQuinnie dumps it down to Caleb Glazer Back to Tommy Morgan
Starting point is 00:04:45 who drives, puts a shot up, goes in. Tommy Morgan, the only second year player on this team. Last year he was the only freshman who did not see time to keep his red shirt. In college basketball, if you play one minute, you burn your year of eligibility. Cedarville takes the ball back to their side of the court, keeps some passes, but maintains possession around the three-point line. Top of the key of foul was called on Cole McQuinnie on defense. You know, I didn't see a lot of foul there, but. Yeah, I agree with you. Not sure what that call was, but number 31, C.J. Yerian, a dominant 610, 230-pound Redshirt Jr. out of Cleveland checks in, along with number three.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Raylon Morris, a standout freshman shooting 46% from the three-point line, pairing with Janowski Stonebreaker and McQuinnney. Cedarville triples a ball around the three-point line, passes down to a watchman. right open man the low post who blew by CJ Yerian but dropped the wide open pass would have an easy layup for the yellow jackets but instead it's a charger's ball Stonebreaker to pass in for this Hillsdale team we just had another freshman check in here number four paxing Gertz Gertz takes the ball up the court passes to number 30 Stonebreaker over to C.J. Yerian who dumps it back to Stonebreaker on a give and go who was fouled on a layup attempt. A little give and go pick and roll action here between the two big men, C.J. Eurean and Stonebreaker,
Starting point is 00:06:29 and that'll take us to our first media timeout. You were listening to Chargers basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. The more you listen, the more you learn. This is Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. Welcome back, everybody. You're listening to Chargers basketball here on Radio Free Hillsville 101.7 FM. I'm Gabe Thiemar here with Dylan Dadario.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Your charges currently hold a 7-2 lead over the visiting Cedarville Yellow Jacket, it's 16 minutes left in the first half. And Dylan, what are you seeing out here? You know, it doesn't think a genius to tell you, you got to make shots to win a basketball game. Right now, Cedarville, their shots aren't falling. And that's why we're up 7 to 2 right now. Chargers having some really good defensive plays in the post,
Starting point is 00:07:47 especially number one, Caleb, Glacier. Offensively, you know, we're just making a lot of shots that are putting up right now. So it's looking good for the Chargers. Absolutely. Currently in for the Chargers. Number 31, C.J. Yarian. Number two, Ashton Shonowski, a senior on this team. Number 30, Stonebreaker.
Starting point is 00:08:03 And two freshmen. Number four, Paxton Gertz. Number three, Braylon Morris. Both have been seeing significant time for this team. Currently, Stonebreaker is shooting free throws. First one goes in Connor Stonebreaker, the six foot seven. 122 found redshirt sophomore out of Versailles, Ohio, shooting 64% from the three point,
Starting point is 00:08:29 the free throw line this year, excuse me. Second shot goes in, two for two on the night. That's perfectioned if I've ever seen at Cedarville. Checks the ball in. Dribbles, past the half court line, guarded by Ashton Shonowski. Passes around the three point arc, down to the low post guarded by Connor Stonebreaker,
Starting point is 00:08:49 who is back down, shot goes up, does not go in, rebounded by CJ Yerian, passed to Ashton Janowski, who takes ball back up the court, who dumps it off to C.J. Yerian. Passes back to Janowski. They pass back to each other. To Stonebreaker, who dribbles, takes a midi shot right around the free throw line. Does not go, and rebounded by Cedarville. They take the ball back. Your charges are up 9 to 2 with 15 minutes in the first half.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Cedarville currently dribbling around a three-point line, takes a three-point shot. Does not go, rebounded by Yerian. the 6-foot-10 dominant center for this basketball team. Paxton Gertz, the freshman, dribbles the ball past half court, dumps it off to Connor Stonebreaker, hands it off to Ashton Janowski. Janowski passes to Morris, Braylon Morris, number three, the freshman. Passed to Stonebreaker. Stonebreaker dribbles, passes to Morris.
Starting point is 00:09:47 He puts a three-point shot up. It's good, and he's foul. Braylin Morris, the superstar freshman shooting over 45% from the three-point line. has a chance for a four-point play. Was fouled by a yellow jacket on his three-point shot. Number 22, the redshirt freshman. Tommy Morgan, Paxton Gertz, check in for your charger. C.J. Yerian and Connor Stonebreaker down to get the rebound.
Starting point is 00:10:18 But they don't need to. Morris made his free throw shot. Cedarville inbounds the ball, ready to get their own offense going. Raylan Morris guards the point Cedarville runs a pick and roll but is unsuccessful against Hillsdale's man coverage dribbles down to low post passes out stolen jump ball forced by Connor Stonebreaker
Starting point is 00:10:48 and this will be Charger Basketball I just want to have a little emphasis too that four point played by Raylan that was a deep 3.2 yeah I mean this wasn't a close thing this was almost from the logo Now this guy's got shooting range As Stonebreaker
Starting point is 00:11:08 Passed the freshman Paxton Gertz The other freshman Getting significant playing time Dribbles guarding pressed up by the man From Cedarville Passes to number 22 Tommy Morgan Back to Gertz Gertz dribbles
Starting point is 00:11:24 To passes to Tommy Morgan He dumps it back out to Stonebreaker 6 foot 7 for 3 Big Man Connor Stonebreaker with a big time 3 point shot. Your charges lead 16 to 2 with 14 minutes into the first half.
Starting point is 00:11:41 And I mean incredible start for your charges. That was a dominant stretch right there. Going down, knocking down multiple three-pointers and Cedarville just cannot get it going offensively. They still have two points and there is 14 minutes left from this first period.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Yeah, I mean, hey, 14-point lead and six minutes of playing time. That's huge. also want to shout out our grounds crew to the court wiping the sweat off the court keeping our players safe those are the Ligori twins from the softball team Olivia and Lauren

Starting point is 00:12:31 Don Tippett Potter Arena is rocking today night. Cedarville inbounds the ball, takes to cross half court, guard by Paxton Gertz at the point. Passes. Again, around the three-point line, Cedarville unable to penetrate this defense so far. Stonebreaker guards the man, works off a pick. Cedarville is forced to pass, and a foul is called on Tommy Morgan. So Cedarville will maintain possession.
Starting point is 00:13:05 That is the third foul for this team. Chargers have three fouls. Cedarville has two. Cedarville inbound. V ball drives, puts a shot up. A layup goes in. That is number 15. Will Gibson, the 6'7 sophomore to Floyd Knob's Indiana.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Your chargers lead 16 to 4. 13 left in the first half. Paxton Gertz with the ball around the three-point line passes to Tommy Morgan. Over to Yerian. Urien dribbles Dumps it off to Stonebreaker Stoneberger puts a shot up
Starting point is 00:13:45 It goes in A little give and go action From the big men Connor Stonebreaker and C.J. Yarian Tell you what that was a beautiful pick and roll right there Out of the two big guys
Starting point is 00:13:55 That was some good basketball right there And now C.J. Eirion and Stonebreaker Both guarding a man who shoots over him Somehow makes a mid-range two-point shot Paxton Gertz will take the ball
Starting point is 00:14:06 back for the Chargers 18 to 6 their lead over Cedarville Stonebreakererer is down to Gertz in the low post. Put the shot up, it goes in. And he's fouled. That's an and one shot from the freshman Paxton Gertz. He'll go to the free throw line.

And they're doing phenomenal right now. They're playing great against a good opponent. This Cedarville team is currently 8 and 6. 3 and 3 in conference play.

Shots aren't fallen and their post game is being shut down. Absolutely. C.J. Yerry and a Connor Stonebreaker are, I mean, they're dominating on both sides of the court. Yarian will take two shots because of the bonus. Yarian, the 610 paint beast. We can also shoot threes and block shots. The do-it-all Nikola Yokic-esque center. First shot goes up and is good.
Starting point is 01:15:04 We'll shoot one more. Regardless of his size, He's got a good stroke in the ball there. Absolutely. Some kids are yelling in the stands as your charges now have 67 points. It's a funny number. Couldn't tell you why, though. Kid to these days.
Starting point is 01:15:25 Who knows what they're thinking. Yarian prepares for his second shot. Shot goes up. And is good. Your charges lead 68 to 64. 540 left in the second half. Trying to hold on and beat this Cedarville Yel Jackets team who has made this game quite interesting for the fans here.

Yarian, that's his third foul. Other Chargers in possible foul trouble right now are number 11, Cole McWenney,

Morris gets stopped, though. Passes back to Yarian, who dumps his. off to Gertu, easy layup for your chargers. Your charges lead 70 to 65. Five minutes left in the second half. That was a phenomenal pass there by Ayari. I mean, no looker behind the back to set up that shot. Meanwhile, Ruffalo smokes a layup. Rebounded by Morris, takes the ball back
Starting point is 01:17:04 for the Chargers, puts his own layup up, is fouled. Shot almost goes in, does not. Morris will shoot two free throws. Nice little stretch there by the Chargers to regain some momentum. Up by five now 445 left in this ball game. And a chance to add one more. Two more, sorry. Absolutely. Morris, a 72% free throw shooter in his freshman season. G-MAC freshman freshman rookie at the year award candidate.
Starting point is 01:17:32 Currently, first shot goes in. Your charges now lead 70. Sorry, I thought it went in. To be a score update, your charges lead 70 to 65. 4.45 left in the game. Gertz-chanowski, Stonebrae. Stonebreaker and Glazer check in.
Starting point is 01:17:53 Raylon Morris dribbles puts the second shot up. Greens at 71 to 65. Six point lead for your charges with 445 left. Sellers for Cedarville passes giving go shot.
Starting point is 01:18:09 But a pass is tipped by Morris and Cedarville will maintain possession down at their side of the court. Number 15, Will Gibson there for Cedarville. Trying to imitate. Yarring in a way, and he does not have the same bag as Yaring, unfortunately. Cedarville catches an inbound pass and puts up an easy two-point shot. Stonebreaker passes to Gertz.
Starting point is 01:18:35 Gertz dribbles across half court to Morris to Stonebreaker, top of the key. Stonebreaker over to Glazer in the wing. Passes to Morris, who passes back to him, passes to Gertz. Easy two-point shot. That's back-to-back, easy layups from the athletic freshman number four. Paxton Gertz. your charges lead 73 to 67. Four minutes left in the game.
Starting point is 01:19:02 Cedarville takes the ball back down to their court will. Gives, number 15, puts up a two-point shot, and it goes in. So Gertz will take this ball back for your chargers, trying to slow things down, get his offense facilitated. Passed to Janowski. Over to Glazer, top of the key. Glazer looking for an open man, dribbles. Hands off to Brayland Morris, who drives off his pass.
Starting point is 01:19:28 puts a layup up and it goes in 7569 your chargers leave three minutes and 30 seconds left in the second half number three ruffalo for cedarville drives puts his own layup up does not go and rebounded by stonebreaker passes to gertz gerts takes the ball up for your chargers dribbles down the court passes to stonebreaker who takes his own shot puts up a layup and stonebreaker draws a foul i believe. Definitely a little confused from the rest there. One ref one to call the blocking foul. We will go to another time outbreak here. You're listening to Chargers basketball here at Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds out of time. I'm Lauren Smith, and quotation marks are not used to create emphasis.
Starting point is 01:20:27 People often use italics or bolding or caps lock to indicate that something is super important. especially on signs. Think, do not enter. Those are all correct ways to indicate emphasis, though they're not appropriate for formal full-length writing projects. The wrong way to indicate emphasis is to put the phrase in quotation marks. When used to indicate something besides a direct quotation, these marks are called scare quotes,
Starting point is 01:20:50 and they typically indicate some kind of irony or sarcasm. So do not enter becomes do not answer. For short messages on signs, you can use italics, bolding, larger font, colorful font, or caps lock. For longer, more formal writing, structure your sentences to make the emphasis clear without resorting to fancy fonts. That's your Grammar Minute. Visit thegrammerminit.com for more tips and tricks. Welcome back, everybody, the Don Timmets Potter Arena. You're listening to Chargers Basketball here at Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.1.7 FM.
Starting point is 01:21:25 I am Gabe Thymar. Join by co-host Dylan Diderio. Dylan, charges lead 75 to 69. 3 minutes and 10 seconds left in. in the second half. What do you thought? I mean, this game's going to come down to grit. Hillsdale has had a control of this game the whole way. They're up by 16 in the first half.
Starting point is 01:21:41 Cedarville has been crawling back, and they are currently up six points right now with 310 left. Certainly a ballgame on our hands here. Previously on Charger Basketball, Stonebreaker was fouled, and Connor Stonebreaker number 30, the 6'7 big man will shoot free throwups. First shot goes up and is good.
Starting point is 01:22:04 Nothing but net there on the free throw. Didn't even kiss the rim. One of the biggest strengths is the shooting ability of the big men. Stonebreaker and Yari. I mean, big time players here. Second shot goes up. Drain's it again. Your chargers now lead 77 to 69 with three minutes left in the second half.
Starting point is 01:22:21 Cedarville takes the ball back up. That's Ruffalo, number three. A foul is called a number one Caleb Blazer. His second team more than 10. Both teams are firmly into the bonus. now in number three. Anthony Ruffalo for Cedarville will shoot free throws. Yarian back in the game.
Starting point is 01:22:45 He's got one foul left before he is out of here. First shot for Ruffalo goes up and is good. But McQuinney checks in. Also in the game for the charges is Morris, Stonebreaker, Janowski, and Glazer. Second shot for Ruffalo
Starting point is 01:23:01 goes in. Cedarville. Now trails by 6.77.71. Three minutes left in the second half. Stonebreaker to pass the in-back. for your chargers. Cedarville in press coverage. Manges to pass to Morris, who passes to McQuinnie, who is trapped. Stonebreaker catches a pass down the court, dumps it off to Glazer,
Starting point is 01:23:23 who puts his own shot up, and it's good. Stonebreaker, I mean, sorry, Stonebreaker to Glazer. Glazer with the made shot, your charges lead 79 to 71, 240, left in the second half. Cedarville back with the ball. Dribbles, white side. Down to Blair, blarebler. Dribbles guarded by Stonebreaker.
Starting point is 01:23:46 Shot goes up. It does not go in. He's rebounded by Glazer who passed to McQuinnie. McWinney number 11. Dribbles pass half court for your chargers. Chargers pass to Stonebreaker. And top of the key, he dribbles, passes to Morris, well behind three-point line.
Starting point is 01:24:08 Over to McQuinnie. Some stout defense out of Cedarville. Stonebreaker with the ball now. Dribbles down to the low post, puts a fadeaway jumper up. Buzzer beat her out of the shot clock. He goes in. Your charges lead 81 to 71. Building up a comfortable 10-point lead with one minute and 50 seconds left in the ball game.
Starting point is 01:24:30 Cedarville takes the ball back. Davis for the yellow jackets. Dribbles, drives on his own, puts a shot up. Does not go in. Rebounded by Stonebreaker. Stonebreaker slows the game down. Passes to Glazer, who passes McQuinnie. looking to slow this game down,
Starting point is 01:24:47 prevent some fast breaks, and hold on to the ball for as much the clock as they can eat up. Glazer holds the ball at the top of the key. You wonder when Cedarville will start fouling. Passes to Morris. Morris, top of the key, dribbles, passes to McQuinnie. McQuinnie at the logo.
Starting point is 01:25:01 Passes to Glazer to Janowski handoff. Janowski puts a shot up. Snope swings it to McQuinney. Free point shot goes up. Does not go in. Not sure what the rest is calling, but he called something and he called it with some energy. right there. Multiple guys
Starting point is 01:25:20 in the floor right now. This call could go anywhere. Not sure what direction they're going to go in here. Could have been fouled in a three-point shot. Could have been a foul down there in the paint. Not sure up here in the booth. Not quite sure what the... Oh, the refs take their own time out to continue discussing the play call.
Starting point is 01:25:43 We wonder how that could be. Big thank you to all the fans here in Don Tippett's Potter Arena, the Simpsonites. Nate Furness, Cole Timler, and Jay Willie and crew. The football team, Evan Mick, my former co-host, just now, Colin Davis, Zach Affalter. Up here, we've got Nate Treffler,
Starting point is 01:26:02 our head football coach, and team chaplain, Doc Jennings, also in the corner. I'll tell you what, that was a great run by the Chargers. Putting themselves up by 10 points now with 106 left in the ball game. Glacier had a nice little run there. Got a little layup, came down, got a defensive rebound.
Starting point is 01:26:23 Really, it's a team effort, obviously, but absolutely I agree I think he's taking over this game another shout out to our student grounds crew here down at the court the Ligori softball twins at Chicago the sophomores Laura Lauren and Olivia wiping down the courts mopping them up
Starting point is 01:26:42 making sure our players are safe some other notable audience members include some members of the volleyball team and women's basketball team Women's basketball just toppled and smoked the Cedarville women's basketball team by 20 earlier this evening. Big time, big time play. Shout out Nate Ferness, waving over to me. Wearing his OKC Shea Gildjus Alexander, Jersey.
Starting point is 01:27:16 You know, he was playing by like SGA tonight was the Slarski twins, the Splash Sisters. Combined for half the team's points and with the top two leading scores, despite five chargers all logging double-digit points. A coming out night for both sophomores. Also in attendance, we have the golf team and Simpson House Mom, Miss Wilson. Miss Wilson, I'd argue, is out of all the dormitories, the best house mom. That's what they're saying. That's what word on the street is.
Starting point is 01:27:54 Mrs. A. with Galloway comes close, but I think I've got to give the edge to Miss Wilson. You know, hey, like eight straight Homecoming Cups, that's leadership right there. You know, you talk about leading a team, you talk about like dominance. Simpson with like eight straight or six of the last seven homecoming titles. That's big
Starting point is 01:28:13 time. She's got quite the dorm. She went to a tight chip over there. One of the biggest dorms on campus. You're still in a timeout. Your charges lead 81-71, 106 left in the second half. The reps are certainly debating this call. They have been talking about this for quite some time.
Starting point is 01:28:37 Trying to get it right. Gotta respect it. Quite a bit. You think this is Vatican II, the way they are discussing and debating. Or as my fellow sophomores in American Heritage would like to reference the Constitutional Convention. Just a little Hillsdale education tidbit for you there. your charge is looking to improve to let's see here
Starting point is 01:29:04 your charge is looking to improve to four and three in conference play actually I'm sorry take that back they're looking to get back to 500 4 and 4 in conference play and knock down Cedarville to 4 and 4 as well both teams looking to make a run
Starting point is 01:29:27 in the second half of the season and you know a decent seed in the G-MAC Conference Championship Tournament. Following this game, the Hills O Chargers will play Tiff University and then Finley, both on the road. Getting some tough games there, Chargers.
Starting point is 01:29:49 Especially because of their recent struggles on the road. They actually picked up their first road win last game against Thomas Moore in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Before that, they had lost the first six away games this season. Rough start, but there is plenty of times. for improvement in this season. Absolutely. All you need to do is get hot at the end. And, hey, anything can happen.
Starting point is 01:30:13 That's why they call it March Madness. That's right. In for your chargers is number two Janowski, number four, Gertz, number three, Morris, number 30, Stonebreaker, number one. Caleb Blazer. Davis gets the inbound pass from Sellers for Cedarville, passes down to White side. Three point shot goes up.
Starting point is 01:30:39 Does not go in. Rebounded by Glazer and he will be foul. The Yellow Jackets opting to start fouling with 55 seconds left in the game, down 10. And Glazer will shoot two shots. We are now in the double bonus. Gotta respect the play call to go foul and, you know, try to say in this game, but they're down 10 with less than a minute to go.
Starting point is 01:31:02 You got to ask, but when is it over? Absolutely. I agree with you there. Laser first shot. Goes up, does not go. Blazor dribbles. Second shot puts it up. And it is good. Your charters now lead by 11, 82 to 71, 55 seconds left in the game.
Starting point is 01:31:31 White side for the yellow jackets, passes. Ruffalo puts a three-point shot up. Does not go. Brayland Morris rebound. Passes to Stonebreaker. And a foul is called on the Yellow Jackets. So Stonebreaker will now go and shoot two free throws. It appears as if Hillstone has a very strong free-throw shooting team in right now.
Starting point is 01:31:56 They opted not to foul Brailing Morris when he had the ball. When Stonebreaker got it, they went right for him. Stonebreaker, a 64% free-throw shooter compared to Morris's 73. But the first shot goes in anyways. Your Chargers lead 83 to 71, 42.6 seconds left in the second half. Stonebreaker second shot goes up and is good all but ceiling victory for the Chargers. Yellow Jackets take the ball down. This is Ruffalo.
Starting point is 01:32:32 Passes to White Side. White side hands it back off to Ruffalo who spins. Passes to number 15 Sellers. Three-point shot is no good. A fadeaway shot in the corner is nothing more than a desperation shot, in my opinion there. Absolutely. But it does go off a charger hand and rolled out of bounds. So sellers will pass the ball inbound.
Starting point is 01:32:54 to that's Davis Davis puts up a contested three-point shot does not go rebounded by Stonebreaker passes to Stonebreaker who will dribble down and looks like with 18 17 16 seconds left Gertz will hold the ball and as time expires your charge will win set 84 to 71 against a very respectable Cedarville yellowjacket scene Gertz dribbling the ball out two one Zero game! Your Chargers! Conquer the Cedarville Yellow Jackets, 84 to 71. And hey, this has been a sweep both men and women with relative ease
Starting point is 01:33:40 have swept the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets, men and women's basketball team. Although it was close there for a bit, Hillsdale came out to a great start up by about He's 16 unanswered points in the first half. When Cedarville then started to answer in the second half, made a close game even tied it up, but never were able to take the lead. The entire game besides the first two points at the ball game.
Starting point is 01:34:10 Absolutely. We will have to wait nine days until your next home game. Your charges will return to Don Tibbitts Potter Arena, Saturday, January 24th at 3 p.m. against Ashland University. It's been a pleasure calling these games with you.
