Men's Basketball: Hillsdale vs. Cedarville, 02/15/24Evan Mick and Gabriel Vondrak on the call for WRFH

The following is a special presentation of WRFH sports. Crowd is roaring. It's a sold-out game here. Takes the three. It's outside to Tavon. Tavon takes the three. Got that one. Ovan Drack, as we are here for Hillsdale Men's Basketball. Taking on Cedarville men's basketball. Two of the best teams in the conference, Cedarville may be tied for first place, we believe. And Hillsdale, what's Hillsdale's record in the conference so far? Nine and six. Hillsdale, nine and six in the conference. Cedarville's 10 and four. They've dropped three in a row to kind of bring them back down into the middle of the pack with everybody.

You're not in middle of the pack, but kind of closing that race between all the teams. It's a close race in the GMAC this year for sure. So Chargers certainly within striking distance with, I believe, five games, four or five games left in the season before the tournament. Especially right now, taking on one of the teams that has a better record than them, able to give them a loss and give themselves another win with that. Huge game for the Chargers. They played Cedarville back at their place on January 27th.

Chargers lost that game, 68 to 56. been a little bit back and forth as of late, but they're coming off a big win against Lake Erie last Saturday and looking to keep that going here today. Yeah, Hillsdale, pretty even with Cedarville across the board. Best player for Cedarville, the one that they're going to have to stop. Javon, Moffman. Mofmer.

Yeah, Mofmer having a great season, the senior wing player. He's, yeah, scoring over 20 points a game. He does it all for the Yellow Jackets. And probably a good chance he ends up being the G. GMAC player of the year. Yeah, potential win GMAC player of the year, which is an honor. I mean, only

one guy wins that each year. He has been phenomenal this year. Chargers need to slow him down in order to have any chance of winning this game. He does it all, though, really. I mean, he averages the most points. Sure, he does have the most turnovers on the team, but he's also up there and steals. He's second

on the team in blocks behind somebody who is not playing today. Second on the team in the rebound is behind somebody who's not playing today. So, I mean, tonight, especially they're going to ask him to do it all. The nice thing for Hillsdale is that, number one, Jacob Dries will not be playing tonight for Cedarville. He's their leading rebounder and leading walker. So he's their big man who usually plays.

But he is out tonight. Yeah, we'll see if the charges can take advantage of that, especially inside. For Hillsdale, starters. Number two, Ashtonikowski, a guard taking the ball up the floor. Number four, Charles Woodham's. Number 22, Samuel DeSue. Number 31, C.J. Yarian, and number 33, Joe Ruder.

As for Cedarville, starters are number three. Kyle Thomas, number 32, Javan Mawfman. Number 12, Ethan Sellers. Number five, Grant Wiseman. Grant Wiseman, excuse me, and number 22, I believe that is. Who's that last starter out there? If I start out there is number zero, Chris Rogers. Chris Rogers, yep.

Shorter guard, but, I mean, if you're a shorter guy playing in this league, that means usually you've got pretty good handles. Yeah, I'd go ahead and make that assumption right now. Yeah, so it looks like the Arian is going out for the Tiff against Mawfurn. Yerian definitely does have the size advantage at 610. Maybe be matched up on it most of the game. We'll see, though. Moffre is going to win the tip, though.

And it does look like Ruder is going to match up on Moffler. So interesting matchup there as Sellers has the ball passed out to Wisman. Wiseman with a missed three-pointer, long rebound out to Yerian. Kind of a questionable pass there, but Stalingovesu, or not Stalinga-Suit, Ashtonikowski gathers it. Gives up to Joe Roosman.

Ruder. The balls in the hands with the chargers, setting up in offense. Well, down to Miriam, but he misses it. Shot by number zero. Charles, Chris Rogers. Rogers misses the shot. Rebound Woodhams. Yeah, fast pace here early on for both teams, getting shots up early in the shot clock. Yeah, early two three-pointers for Cedarville. Score still zero-zero, though, with 19 minutes left to go in this first quarter. ball to Yerian

Wiseman getting the ball in the hands of the best player Mothmer Mothmore looking for a switch looking for a screen and he kind of loses the ball and he's going to tip it last out of bounce off Mothmer so some great defense there by the Chargers to

stop the potential GMAC player of the year in an early possession. Yeah, Woodham's making things difficult for Moffmer there. He blocked the shot and then was able to hit the ball off him as he was standing out of bounds. Janowski had a great dribble. Getting across half, pretty easily breaks the press. It's very calm with the ball in his hands. Ball in the hands of Woodham's out in the corner. Woodham's trying to make it in, dribbled in.

And they're going to call it travel on him. Whittams looks a little bit confused. I couldn't tell really if he dragged that back foot. now but I think that's what they called on him. Yeah, a little bit of contact as he turned his back on the drive and ref said he must have slid that pivot foot. So the score still zero zero, two minutes into this game. Ball in the hands, kickball right there.

Ball falls in the hands of Joe Ruter. Ruter taking it out. Great move by Rooder to open up the scoring. Incredibly strong drive by Router there. I thought he was going to go up and try to dunk it instead goes strong, lays it in soft. I think he thought about dunking it. But then the defender came up and he realized I'm not going to dunk it over him.

And on the other end, Moffmer, best player for Cedarville, with a strong basket against Joe Rueh's defense. Mothmer answering Ruder going right back at him. Tie ball game early. Ball in the hands of Charles Wittams. Out to Janowski in the corner. Switched all the way around to a Sioux. Wittem's getting the ball under the basket, trying to draw a foul, but doesn't.

Back to Wudham's on the offensive rebutt. He's going to miss another shot. Get a little bit blocked. A lot of chances there for Charles Woodhams, but not able to get it through the hands of the Yellow Jacket defense. Long three-pointer. Easy rebound there by Hillsdale. C.J. Erion dribbles the ball up the floor.

Yeah, Rogers on the attempt for Cedarville. Ball in the hands of Janowski on the top of the key. Out to Router. As Yerian has the ball under the paint. Kicks it out to Woodham's for three, and he makes it. The score is now 5 to 2 Hillsdale lead with 16 minutes left for 17 minutes left in this first half. Great offense there for the Chargers. Got the ball inside to C.J. Yarian.

He skips it across the lane to Charles Woodham's for a beautiful three. And a great steal there by Sam Vassou. Vesu with a layup. Great transition. Great steal by Sam Vesu. Great defense by Vesu turns into points on the other end. That's that kind of thing that really changes the game right there. Picks like that.

Make the offense start playing differently. Question passes and stuff like that. Yeah, high intensity so far. You can see these teams are playing this like it's a playoff game. Wiseman with a great dribble move on the area and a strong finish. About a four-foot shot right there. Yeah, a nice little turnaround hook shot. Ball in the hands of Woodhams.

Out of Janowski. Janowski, getting into. And back out to Janowski for three. And it's going to roll out. rebound Kyle Thomas Kyle Thomas passes it off to Mothmer who gets to Wiseman Whistman to Rogers

Rogers back to Wiseman for three and he's going to make it score now 7 to 7 tie game right here with 15 minutes and 40 seconds left in this first half. Yeah Cedarville caught the Chargers switching there on defense Wiseman gets the open look ball to Janowski for three

And he hits it. Great shot by Janowski. 10 to 7. Just like the last three, though. They're able to get the ball inside to Yerian first, and then he kicks it back out to an open shooter. That looks like that's going to be the best move of the game. They're trying to try to play help defense on the 6-10 sophomore center.

And he's going to kick it out and hit the three. Ball in the hands of Mothman. Mothman out to Rogers. Roger's going to draw a foul against Janowski. Hillsdale Men's Basketball versus Cedarville men's basketball. Hillsdale currently leads 10 to 7 in his early, very interesting game. 15 minutes and four seconds left. It's been a great game so far absolutely and you can like i've said you can see the intensity in this game it reminds me of a tournament game or a playoff game both of these teams playing to stay ahead in the g-mac yeah i think the play of the game so far for hillsdale has been the steel by samuel the sue with the easy basket was a great defensive play just such a smart play and then and then finishing on the other side with the points yeah not an easy layup either had to hold it out away from the defender before he put it in ball in the hands of anthony ruffalo is he's going to check into the game.

So new Chargers checks into the game too, including Caleb Glazer out there on defense. And Cole McQuinnie. Great shot there by Ruffalo, long three-pointer, and he had to go in. 10 to 10. Tie game right here.

He'll still and Cedarville. Yeah, immediate impact from Ruffalo. That was a really long three. I didn't think that he was going to shoot that one. I thought he was going to at least take a dribble in. But he must feel really confident about his range, and they got a key in on that. Joe Runa with a pump fake gets him to jump but unfortunately kind of loses the ball kicks out to Woodham

Woodham's for three great shot there by Charles Woodham's Woodham's hot already he's got two three pointers we're just over five minutes into this game yep 13 to 10 Hillsdale lead with 14 minutes left in this first half ball to ruffalo ruffalo taking on Cole McQuine McQuine with some great defense and Ruffalo draws the foul in the N-1. Great move from Ruffalo. He's wasting no time getting involved here for the Yellow Jackets. Yeah, he is.

Their second-leading score only behind Mofmer. So I don't think they're afraid of having the ball in his hands. No, absolutely not. He's going to miss the end-one shot, and Joe Rueger's going to grab the rebound. Kick it out to Cole McQuinney. McQuinnie? to Ruter, out to Woodham's, Woodens, getting the ball on the hands of

number 21, Mickey McComb, the freshman. The freshman out to another freshman, Caleb Glazer, with 13 seconds left in the shot clock. Ball back in the hands of Joe Ruder. Joe Ruder, the spin move, and he draws the foul, so he doesn't make the shot, but he draws the shooting foul. Nice strong move there from Ruter, able to get to the line for the Chargers.

Yeah, he just, even when he's in the air, he looked very under control. He knew exactly what he was doing and exactly where he wanted to go with that basketball. Yeah, a very patient move. He's going to be shooting two free throws right here. He's going to make the first. So he'll be apparently 14 to 12 in Hillsdale's favor with 13 minutes and 40 seconds left to go in the first half. So very early on in this game as Rueher makes the second free throw,

we're seeing a lot of points and not very many missed shots. So eventually when teams start missing shots, that's how you see. we'll see who starts missing shots first, I guess, is the real question. Yeah, a lot of substitutions as well. I think we're going to keep seeing that with as much as these guys are running around, they're going to need to get quick breaks here and there where they can. Yeah, definitely a lot of subs on both sides. Media turnout's going to be very big for Cia on impact.

Get some rest for the players. Ball in the hands of Kyle Thomas for Cedarville. Out to Ruffalo. Ruffalo, patented into Wisman. Wiseman back out to Ruffalo. Riffelow making a move. And misses the finish. He had the basket there.

It was a great move, but misses the layup right there. Ball in the hands of Woodhams again under the basket. He kicks out to Ruter, out to McQuillan, out to Mikey McCollum for three, and he makes it. If you leave Mikey McCollum that open, you can pretty much guarantee that ball is going in. Great three-point shot. That was. He looked so calm, so confident. That's his shot right there.

Ball in the hands of Ruffalo. I'm defended by Charles Woodhams. gets past Woodham's drives and this time doesn't miss the layup. Ruffalo being super aggressive here for the yellow jackets, his Mofmer is on the bench. Yeah, he really looks like the guy they want to get the ball on the hands of us. Cole McQuinnney takes a three and it goes in. Nobody can miss.

It looks like it was going to be one of our first misses of the game, but it just falls in. What a great shot by Cole McQuinnie right there. Another under control three-point shot for the Hillstill Chargers. No hesitation. They're looking to score early here. That score currently 21 to 14 in the Chargers favor. Ball in the hands of Thomas. Out to Davis.

Davis for Ruffalo, Ruffalo for three, and he makes it again. Another wrong three for Ruffalo. That time slightly contested by Charles Woodham, but he still makes it. He said eventually he's going to have to miss a shot, right? They still haven't. Eventually, maybe we were wrong. Maybe as McCollum, corner three. and there's a miss three-pointer.

We finally get a missed three-pointer. Ball in the hands of Cedarville. Cedarville's Wiseman. Mike, or not Mikey. Ruffalo with a long three-pointer that time he missed. So now both teams have finally missed the three-pointer. As the score is currently 21 to 17 with two teams on hot starts.

Two three-pointers from Charles Woodham's. Mikey McCollum has one. The Chargers have one more. The Chargers have five. Janowski also hit a three and so did Col McQuinn. So we have a lot of three-pointers so far. Yeah. Scoring almost exclusively from the three-point line. Router has the four points. Rueh has four points as well, and so does Sam Wissu on that steel. Then on the other end. Yeah, I was going to say for Cedarville, it's been Anthony Ruffalo. 10 points already.

Ruffalo and Mofmer on the floor at the same time. This is the first time we've seen this. Mofmer, potential GMAG player of the year, average is 20 points a game. Radicevich on the floor for the chargers for the first time. Ball tipped out of the hands of Joe Ruder, but it's going to stay with the chargers. First time we've seen Eric Radissovich as well. Yeah.

Definitely a size advantage down there on the block. Janowski with the ball, 14 seconds on the shot clock. Passes to McCone, back up to Janowski. Up to Radicevich under, trying to take a man on. And he touches a hook shot, but he misses. Cedarville sitting back into two, three defense there. Chargers not able to figure it out on that position. Davis for three on the other end.

Quick three by Davis. Cedarville's Cedarville's Timothy Davis taking the ball pretty confidently and takes a confident shot. Cut the lead down to one point for the charges. Cedarville staying in this matchup zone.

Mikey McCollum with the ball. Up to Radisovich. Regisovic looks for the three-pointer, but decides not to shoot it. Passed out to Joe Ruder. Five seconds left in the shot clock. Ruder with a fadeaway shot and that doesn't even move. That ball went so straight in the

the net the net barely moved i thought he missed for a second very frustrating if you're cedarville to force hills down to that tough a shot but rudder gets it to go ball on the hands of mothmer mothmer make him move on joe rudder and he makes a contested layup great move there by mothmer you can see that's what mothmore wants to do get the ball on his right hand and drive on that strong side all on the hands of mccolm mccone mccone taking on ruffalo And there's going to be a foul on Ruffalo for a little bit of a grab. I think he got his called him on grabbing Mickey McComb's jersey. McCollum, checking out of the game now in favor of Wittams.

For our second foul for Cedarville, fourth foul of the game. First for Ruffalo. What would you call this a 3-2 defense that Cedarville is running? It's a match-up zone. I like that. I think that's a really good call. Radisovich with a strong basket. They get the ball down in his hands and he makes a strong finish.

When you're running a zone, you definitely don't want to give up points inside, which is what Radisovich was able to do there for the chargers. Yeah, but on the 3-2 zone, you know that you run the risk of doing that. Shot up by number five, long three-pointer. He's going to miss, but rebound by Hoffman, he's going to be fouled. So he got away with a little bit of a push-off before the rebound on Joe Ruder. Yeah, Ruder looks upset that they didn't see Mofmer push to get the rebound, and then they call Ruder for the reach-in foul

after Mothmore already had the ball. Checking into the game now for the Chargers, Garrett Bolton, number 24. So Woodham's going to be guarding Mothmore now. Mofmer with a deep pass on the inbound, forced to make a deep pass to Davis. Ball now on the hands of Chris Rogers. And they're calling Mospel for stepping out of bounds.

Yep, as he caught the pass on the wing and decided to drive, his back foot hit out of bounds. Good eye there by the referee. Good eye there by the referee. And Mothbert didn't look that upset. So that means you kind of assume that that was the right call. I think he knew it was the right call.

Ball in the hands of Ashton Janowski. Janowski out to Woodhams. Scores currently 25 to 22. Hillsdale lead to Shannowski shoots a three, but he's going to shoot short. Garabh Bullty with a great strong rebound. Kick out to Woodhams, who's also going to miss a three. Boltsie gets another hand on the rebound. There's going to be a foul.

Great aggressiveness by Boltie on the offensive boards. That was all about effort. Yep. Somebody got caught up under him. I couldn't really tell who it is. It's going to be on Mothmore, so they're going to draw a foul on Mofmer and keep the possession. So he kind of jumped up in the air, reached up for the rebound, got a hand on it, but Mofmour kind of took out by going under him.

Hilsdow also getting great looks shooting there, just not able to make him. That ball in the hands of Askin Janowski. onto Radicevich wide open for Garrett Bolte and he dunks it what a possession there for Garrett Bolte yeah nice little two-hand jam the defense collapses around Radisovich he finds his man Boltee alone under the basket basically two offensive rebounds and a dunk as Hillstale now leads 27 to 22 with eight minutes left

and now Bolte get a foul on the shot by Wiseman Wiseman You know what, at least if you're going to foul, at least he didn't make the shot. I do give you credit for that because it would have been a really easy shot if you would have just let him go. If you're going to foul, make it count. Make it count. Make sure he doesn't make the shot. So now Grant Wiseman going to be shooting two free throws.

The Hillsdale crowd really getting into that one. And he misses the free throw. So I think they think they affected that one. I may give them a little bit of credit for that miss. They got some good distractions over there. I'm not sure what those signs say. one of those is the Class Royal laughing face. And he's going to make the second one.

It turns around to the Class Royal angry face. Currently, Hillsdale leads 27 to 23 with eight minutes left in the first half. Ball in the hands of Garibolti out to Vassu. The Sioux getting into the hands of Woodhams. Wendums down to Radicevich, wide open Janowski. Under the basket, he misses. Oh my gosh. That was such a great feed.

Got it inside to Rudisovich, a little. Bounce past to Janowski, had a wide open layout, just couldn't get it to go. Janowski is not like that. He's definitely not very happy with himself because he knows she does not get baskets that easy that often. Wow. Great defense from Radisovich there, but better offense from Mofmer. Yeah, Mothman drives in and makes another contested layup right there. Mofmer.

Quite a few points early here. Hamman Ruffalo leading the scoring for the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. Scarabilt, he shoots a three. and it's going to go up and rim out. But Charles Wittams grabs the rebound. Woodhams with three guys on him, finds Sisu, the Sue for three and he misses.

Radisovich with the tip, and they're going to call that it went off of Radisovic's last. The score is currently 27 to 25. Hillsdale doing a great job on the offensive boards here as of late. And they're here. Why are they here? I don't know. They love Charger basketball. That's why we're here too. It's been a great game so far. It really has. He'll still made it a great game so far.

As Chris Rogers taking the ball at the floor, passed out to Ruffalo. Ruffalo, with a little miscommunication passing the Wistman, going to be Charger basketball. So a turnover there by Cedarville.

Unforced error. Oh. And Janowski almost loses it but gets his own tip off the Cedarville defender. Great effort play there by Janowski to get the ball back. Yes, they're playing a little two, three matchup zone. Chargers trying to get the ball inside. They switched to a man defense.

So I think with a certain amount of shot clock, or seconds left in a shot clock, three seconds left in the shot clock, wide open shot by Basu, and it rims out. I'm sorry, Mikey McCollum. So Mikey McCollum had the wide open three, but unfortunately does not make it. I must have jinxed him earlier in the broadcast when I said, if you leave a mat open, you can guarantee it's going in,

because that was a very open look. That was definitely your fault. As a shots up by number five, Grant Wiseman, a little fight for the rebound there, and Woodhams is going to get it. Woodham's getting blocked. Gets blocked by Wiseman. Yeah, Woodham's trying to take it coast to coast there, and Wiseman not having any of it sends that ball into the stands.

Yeah, so Cedarville is playing a, It looks like a match zone defense, which switches to a man at a certain point in the shot clock at a certain call. I can't really tell which one yet. As Mikey McCollum is going to dribble in and miss the short jumper, a very contested short jumper. I was able to get some space with that shoulder shove there, but couldn't get the basket to go. Yeah. Ball in the hands of Moffmer up against Joe Ruder, passes it out to Ruffalo. Ruffalo, guarded by Charles Woodham's.

Woodham's with a tip on pass. Seven seconds left on the shot clock as Moffmer has the ball. Covered by Router. Ruter staying with him. Three seconds left in the shot clock. Very difficult shot. And he is not going to make it. Rebound Hillsdale.

A little scuffle for the rebound, but Hillsdale grabs it. Great defense and rebounding from Hillsdale there. Three-pointer by C.J. Yaron, and it goes in. Oh, Big Man 3. Big Man 3. We always celebrate a good Big Man 3. CJ Yerian sinks that shot. And it wasn't like it was like a wide open 10 second shot.

He got it and he knew that he wanted to shoot it right away. No hesitation there from Yarian. Great shot. So Hillsdale on the picks, Yerian is helping to defend the player and then leaving Wisman for a quick second and then going back to Wisman. So they're not afraid of having a ball in Wisman's hands.

Ball in the hands of Mothmer. Got it by Joe Ruder. And there's going to be a jump ball call. great defense there by Joe Ruder Wiseman definitely wanted the Fowler, sorry Mothmore definitely wanted the foul but is not going to get it. Jump ball, possession, going to the

Chargers. Yeah, Joe Ruder is doing an excellent job on Mothmore right now, playing very physical defense but not fouling, staying in front of him. Mofmer's very frustrated right now. Yeah, and getting one of their best players to get a little bit off their game, that's huge.

Yeah, so Ruter only has one foul and I believe that that wasn't even on a play where he was defending muffler. Cole McQuinney with the ball on the top of the three-point line. Hicks it into Yerian who's going to turn it over to Muffmer. Muffmer. Muffmer who loses the dribble grabbed by Cole McQuinnie. Yeah, Hillsdale and Sederville trading turnovers there.

Ball in the hands of Joe Ruder kicked a Yerian wide open under the basket. He makes the layup. Nice, quick passing. Didn't allow Cedarville to set up the defense, find Yerian wide open under the basket for an easy layout. Yeah, great find. That's that problem with that match zone defense is that you have to play it. If you play it perfectly, it's pretty much the most unstoppable defense,

but it's so hard to play it perfectly. And when you make mistakes, that's when baskets, that's when easy baskets are found as Muffmer makes the very difficult layup. Ball in the hands offensively of Charles Woodham's for the Chargers. Hill still currently up 32 to 27 with 3 minutes and 46 seconds left. And the turnover by the Chargers is a great tip by Davis. Now in the hands, fall in the hands of Ruffalo down to Davis.

They're going to call a push. Yeah, it was an offensive foul on number 22. Pestoa. Pestoa. I think he kind of hooked the defender there trying to get in position under the basket. One of the big things that Hillsdale did that we're hoping that we can see again

is that offensive rebound and we haven't seen them offensive rebound since that last immediate timeout. And I do wonder what play they're drawing up right now in this offensive puddle. So Hillsdale is going to get the ball. out of their own timeout. And I think if they're going to,

they're going to call something that, like a screen and roll, easy type basket, double screen type, like a formation type play. You understand what I mean? Yeah, running a set play. A set play. As opposed to just the regular motion of your offense.

Cedarville had a dominating season. so far one of the leaders in the GMAQ but he'll still right up there with Cedarville currently leads them this would be a big big win if they can pull this one out they really need this one if they want any chance of winning the GMA but just a couple games left yeah this is a huge game and like you said Cedarville dominating most of the season they've lost three straight though coming into this game so on a little bit of a skid if you will the Cedarville yellow jackets and

Chargers hoping to make it four in a row tonight. Yeah, they are missing their leading rebounder, one of their best players, six foot seven forward. Jacob Dreese, definitely a big loss for them, as we can see. Hillsdale has had some success rebounding offensively. I think even more than that, the biggest key so far is that Hillsdale has been able to slow down and control. Mofmer, Javon Moffmer, number 32, the leading score and potential G-MAC player of the year for the Yellow Jackets. Yeah, when you look at Hillsdale, nobody has more than six points at Hillsdale,

but everybody that has played except one person has at least scored. Yeah, the scoring coming from pretty much everybody on the roster. Yeah. So we get into the second half, balls in the hands of Kyle Thomas. Shot three-pointer, rebounded by Joe Ruder. Router, out to Janowski, Janowski, back out to Ruder at the top of the three-point line. Hillsdale playing with a little bit of playing with some patience here looking for a good look

rotating guys under the basket as CJ Yaring going to take another three-pointer but he's going to miss and it's going to roll out of bounds yeah just short off the front of the rim ball goes out of bounds it'll be with Cedarville yep ball in the hands of Chris Rogers Rogers taking it up still 3833 Hillsdale lead 19 minutes left to go in the second half Rogers gets some space but then passes it out to Sellers. Moffer with four, three. And he makes it. Yeah, you knew Mofmer was going to look to get going early. Does so there on that three-pointer. Yeah, ball in the hands. Kick out to Janowski. Shot. Almost rebound by Yerian, but it's tipped and it falls in the hands of Cedarville.

A great look for Janowski there. He's always going to take that. unfortunately just couldn't make it. Now ball in the hands now. The number 12, Ethan Sellers, Sellers, up to Rogers. Rogers has an open lane, drives, gets to kick it out, great tip and then great steel.

But then a turnover, I don't know if Ruder really ever had possession of it. I don't know if you can call it a steel. And then Ruder gets the tip and the ball goes out of bounds. Had it for a second there, but lost it, I think, as he was trying to save it from going out of bounds. Yeah, he kind of stumbled there, kind of fell over. up. It was great defense to get that steel initially.

A ball in the hands of Moffmer. Moffmer, the leading score. Takes a drive, takes a little step back, and he misses. Great defense there by Joe Ruter, not letting him near the basket, make that difficult jump shot. Yeah, Ruter has the tough assignment of guarding Moffer, but he's done a great job so far. Hold on to C.J. Earing, out to Charles Woodhams for three, and he sinks it. Great shot there by Woodham's.

Woodham's has been hot this game for the three-point line. Yep, Rootter, or sorry, Woodham's with his third three-pointer of the game, and he got it the same way he did the first from the first half. Ball got inside to Yerian, and he kicked it out to Charles. And they're going to call him moving screen there in Grant Wiseman. Wiseman trying to get the roll. They say he rolled too early and rolled in to the defender. That's been the formula on offense, though, for Hillsdale.

Get the ball inside and then kick it out to the shooters. Yeah, 100%. forced the defense to collapse around Yarian and Radisovich and the other big men. Yeah, ball in the hands offensively of Wittams. Wittams and Janowski. Getting the ball underneath once again to C.J. Yarian, this time taking him on, and then finds a wide open Woodham's on the other side. Yep, see, they don't feel like they match up size-wise,

and so they're running a guy in double Yerian, and it leaves somebody else wide open. That time it was Wudams. They have really, really struggled to cover inside the panes. the passes from inside the paint, I should say. I just don't think they have the size to match up against the Arian. Key to the offense right now is C.J. Yarian. Get the ball to Yerian. Forced the defense to cave in around him and other guys are opening up. Woodham's, Router, a number of chargers have been the beneficiary of Yerian passes. Yeah, Yerian only has five points, but he also has five assists. Yeah, obviously not a point guard. He's a big man, but he's a great facilitator. sees the court really well

and he finds his open guys and Cedarville can't figure it out no matter what they have left somebody open either outside the three point arc or on the other block well yeah they don't want to leave Yerian one on one when he has the ball that close to the rim because they're afraid of him scoring so somebody else

has to come help off but somebody you know it leaves a Hillsdale player open yeah Cedarville ball in the hands of Ruffalo who had kind of a hot start to this game came out to an early time 10 points and it's kind of cooled off since then.

Yeah, defense has picked it up on him. Ball in the hands of... Tipped by C.J. Yarian. Sorry, hit by Joe Ruter. Out to Muffmer and the ball gets stuck. Stuck in the side of the rim, so it's going to be that jump ball. The old wedgies, they call it. I believe it's the same as a jump ball, yeah.

Yeah, it is a jump ball. So it's going to go in Hillsdale's possession. Yeah, so Muffmer hits the shot a little bit long. Usually when you see that, it means it's that short corner. I've never really seen it in that long corner. That's really hard to do to overshoot the rim and get it stuck on the opposite side. That takes a lot of skill. Yeah, it does.

It's not just that they're shooting, well, from three-point range, because, I mean, they're really not taking a lot of crazy shots. It's a bit of finding wide-open looks, especially under the basket. Yeah, and I think it gets back to the way that they move with the basketball. basketball the way that they're unselfish they pass it and and honestly they're confusing the cedarville

matchup zone right now they're finding them out of position constantly i think cedarville has and getting wide open layoffs has switched to a little bit of a man but it's a little bit of a of a strong help man defense where they do almost too much helping for their own benefit yep over aggressive in in the helping ball unbounded by kyle thomas out to mothmer mothmore taking on joe ruder Moffmer making a move can't find anything we're with some great defense and Moffmer finally makes the basket a lot of spinning there you can tell he's an experienced score he was patient that whole time even when it seemed like there was nothing there yeah ball in the hands for Hillsdale Janowski those though currently leads 47 to 38 14 minutes left in the

second half fall down to Caleb Glazer kick out Sam Bousou Sousou took on day Davis, Basu, with a great move and draws a foul. So kind of a little hesitation there in the air and able to draw the foul. The foul is on number 11, Timothy Davis. So Sam Vasu, now shooting two free throws. Yeah, it looks like number 10, David Akpara is checked in for the first time for Cedarville. Yeah, Basu makes the first free throw. A little bit, uh, Akpara, 6, 9.

and I think they're trying to bring in some size to match Hillsdale. Tired of getting beat inside on the defensive end. Yeah. Basu. Misses the second one, but Ruder grabs the rebound. Mikey McCollum with an open three and he hits it. Wow. What a play by Joe Ruder to get the rebound.

Fadeaway shot, maybe a very, very contested shot. I don't know why he took it. Yeah, I don't understand why Ruffalo took that one that early in the shot clock. I did not need to. I think he's trying to get hot again, understanding where he was in that first half, because Glazer is going to take a spin-around shot, and he's going to miss. And going for the rebound, trying to get a jump ball, I think they're going to call us a foul on Sam Vassu.

hook the shot and misses and there's going to be a foul on the rebound against Cedar so it's going to be Hillsdale basketball. Great defense there by Woodhams. Let the guy take the very long kind of curve route to the basket and then make him shoot an ugly hook shot. Yeah, it was not a clean look at all. I mean, that's a very tough shot to make. There's only so much of an angle that you have to even get it off.

Cedarville currently pressing Hillsdale, ball in the hands of quickly passing around is Hillsdale to beat the press, and they do. on the hands of four different chargers in the span of about two seconds. Fall now in the hands of Cole McQuinn. Down to Radicevich. He's got the double team on him.

And they're calling a foul, but they're seeing if it was on the shot. But one ref says that it's still on the ground. Yeah, that looks like they're going to call it on the ground. Radisovich threw the ball up. Definitely would look like a shot attempt. But it seems to be some disagreement with the officials as to whether it was a shot or not.

little bit here in the second. Not as much scoring, but Hillsdale's opened up that lead to 12 points. Especially Hillsdale's defenses. They've only allowed Cedarville to score seven points. shot by Cedarville. Hillsdale rebound with a little bit of confusion, a little bit of pushing on both sides there. So I think that was a set play that Cedarville was looking at, but they knew that they had to get

some points up on the board somehow. Yeah, they were desperate to get a bucket there and definitely needed it. It was a nice finish by Rogers who was able to just sneak around the much taller C.J. Yarian. Yeah, ball in the hands of Garrette, Bolsey for the Chargers. Bolsey, passing it down to Yerian, kick out to McCollum for three, and he makes it. He has been hot two nights. Ladies and gentlemen, Mikey McCollum, is on fire. He is indeed. Another three-pointer by him.

Yeah, sometimes you've got to tip your hat and move out of the next play because you can't stop him, but you can limit him. Astor Janowski on the other end, fade away jumper and he misses. Rebound falls in the hands of Cedarville. Davis taking the ball on the floor. Janowski is struggling to get it going from the field in this game.

Mothmer taken on Router, trying to make something happen, and he does. Another great defensive play by Router, but better offense by Mothman. Yeah, incredibly tough shot. He's working in the post on Router. He shoots a little one-hand turnaround almost like a hook shot, and again, gets a tough shot to go. Cedarville, Hillsdale. ball in the hands of Yerian. Yerian makes a move and he's going to miss the layup.

Yeah, Hillsdale felt like they had a mismatch there. Mothmer on Yerian, but Yerian can't capitalize. Yeah, Yerian made a great move. Just couldn't finish the basket. Mothmore, another step back three, this time going to rim out. Another great defensive session there by Joe Ruter. Good thing for Hillsdale. That one was short.

If he made that, that would have been a really big play for Cedarville. Yeah, scores currently 60 to 49. Hillsdale hoping to maintain their double-digit lead over the team that is, we believe currently tied for number one in the GMAC. It'll be a big win for Hillsdale if they can pull this out as Yerian is shooting two free throws. Yeah, it's going to take some discipline to close this thing out. Cedarville not going to lay down and just give it away.

They're going to keep fighting right till the end. Yarian, short on the first free throw. The 6-10 big man was fouled in the post. Yeah, he's been the key to the offense today for the Chargers, in my opinion. Garian makes the second free throw. So he's shooting one for two from the free throw line and one for two from the three point line. Rogers with the ball, trying to make a move on Colma Quinny. He has to take a step back and makes a great shot.

Very difficult shot there from Rogers, but he sinks it. Yeah, shot making, getting a little bit better here for Cedarville. Not what you want to see if you're a Hillsdale Charger fan. Mofmer with Joe Rooder's defense on him. Tries to take a lane, forced to pass it, and misses the pass. Router has played some great defense tonight, hasn't? I don't Mawfmer's been able to work his way up to 18 points, but he's having to work for everything he gets. I mean, yeah, Mothmer, a phenomenal player, average is 20 a night. Yerian gets the ball tipped out of his hands and it's going to stay with Hillsdale. But Mothmer shooting only 47% a day.

That's pretty good. He's had 8, 17 shots and for one of the best players in the GMAC, possibly conference player of the year, that many shots and just this many points has been a great defensive effort by Joe Ruther. He couldn't get it to go. Mothmer for three, and he's going to miss. So he was still fortunate there that Mothmer unable to make the three-pointer is they did not have the matches they wanted on him. Yeah, he got one of his cleanest looks at the night. Woodhams kind of dribbles it around and they're going to call a foul on CJ Yerrian trying to dive for the loose ball. Yeah, free-throw line going to be big to end this game for sure. And Rogers makes the first free throw. So 68, or 65-58, Hillsdale lead. Yeah, we've talked about Moffour being their top score.

Ruffalo had a little bit of a run in the first half, but Charles, or sorry, Chris Rogers, who's been very aggressive for Cedarville late in this game. Guys. Great move. And timeout Hillsdale. 69 to 61. A minute 46 seconds left. That was an incredible pass from CJ Yeran. He had it near the top of the key. Probably more risky than the Hillsdale coach would like at that point. But he finds Mikey McCollum cutting underneath the basket from the baseline.

great catch and is able to control himself and put the ball up. Yeah, it was another great off ball move by Mikey McCollum. It's the second time they found him wide open under the basket on those backdoor cuts. Well, that time I wouldn't say he was wide open. He was covered pretty well there. He was covered more by the help defense, though, I would say, than his own defender. Either way, it was a tough catch and not easy to catch it and still get a good shot up, and he was able to do it. Yeah, it was a great play by both players. Definitely, I agree with you. Well, it looks like he was confused until he got the ball, and then all of a sudden he thought it was a one-in-one. Yeah. So now Rogers with a second shot after his first miss.

That Ruder grabbed the rebound on. Better safe than Sari there if you're Router, right? Yeah, exactly. Much better safe than sorry. As he makes the second one, 69 to 62. Hillsdale, 7-point lead, a minute, 20 seconds left in this second half of play. Let's see what kind of press Cedarville can put together here. Cedarville with a man press.

Ruter moving up and down the sideline to find somebody. Passes to Woodhams. Woodham makes a nice move to get across half. Now double teams. Not the ideal press break there, but Woodham does it all on his own. Cedarville does foul here. I don't believe, I don't know if that was intentional or not by sellers. Didn't look like it was intentional.

No, it did not. So McCollum shooting two, or shooting one-in-one free throws right here. Still one-in-one, yes. So very important that he makes the first one, even more so I'd say in this. second one. So 69, 62, seven point lead for Hillsdale and he misses it, but Router tips the rebound up and Woodham's grabs it. Great hustle play by Router and then Woodham's gets the ball.

As they are going to call something, reps are discussing, there is a call on the floor. Very delayed call. It was a very delayed call. Woodham's had the ball in a triple thread and Ruffalo was on him. And there was contact both ways. Well, Woodham's kind of pulled the ball through,

and then I don't know if his elbow maybe caught Ruffalo in the face, but Ruffalo went down, and at first there was no call, and then we get a stoppage from the officials. So now the officials still discussing it as the teams go back to their bench. They haven't made any official call yet. I think that this signal, the signal that they were doing is the replay signal. They might be going back to look at the. replay. So they are

going back to look at the replay. It's an official review. I think because there was potentially contact to Ruffalo's head could possibly be a flagrant foul. Is that what they're looking at here? I think that they're looking at if there was contact to the head,

but I don't think that that could be a flagre maybe that could be a flagrant foul. I think you are right actually. Thanks. Yeah. Every once in a while. Every once in a while so Hillsdale holding on to a 69 to 62 point lead.

So a 7 point lead. And maybe have possession. We'll see what the refs talk about. Yeah, we're still waiting for the call. Two officials over at the review station. But it's been a very exciting game of basketball so far. For Hillsdale or for Cedarville, Mothmer, and Rogers lead the scoring with 18 and 16 points.

And then Ruffalo has 10. all of which he got early in that first half. For Hillsdale, Mikey McCollum with 21 points, the freshman. Shooting five for seven from three. And like I said earlier, proving he's more than just a three-point shooter. I know he has the five-threes tonight, but he's also made some great plays underneath the basket. I'm sure that he can do everything.

Yeah, Joe Ruter has 12 rebounds and 10 points. Myrian has five rebounds and 10 points, and then Woodham's has eight rebounds and 13 points. So offensively rebounding, Woodham's has three. He'll still done a great job being aggressive on that offensive side of the ball. Woodham's always one of the top offensive rebounders on this team. He's just got a knack for it. If it's hustle, effort, good technique,

Woodham just always finds himself in the right place at the right time when it comes to rebounding. Yeah, and the big guy under the basket, C.J. Yerian with seven assists this game. and then Joe Ruder with six. Yarian finding a lot of those early in that second half, kind of in that middle of the second half, when they were dishing it down to him and he was kicking it out or kicking it to the other side of the block for easy baskets.

Yeah, Hillsdale getting big contributions across the board from a number of players. It's been a very complete game by this roster. So the refs do have a call, but Hillsdale's just going to be inbounding it. So I think that the call was no call. So determine the charger basketball. Determere there was no call.

Hillsdale keeps possession. So there are 12 seconds left on the shot clock as Hillsdale holds on to the seven point lead. Ball and bounded Woodham's. Woodham's. Taking the ball around. Knowing you only have eight seconds left on the shot clock. Hands off to McCollum.

McCollum trying to make something happen. Three point shot and he misses. But rebound Hillsdale. Shot clock reset to 20 seconds. And who else? Charles Woodams gets the offensive rebound. That's huge. Passing the hands of Vesu.

Bissue to McCollum as Hillsdale did a great job. Cedarville trying to foul and they found a wide open Bissue to hold the ball for an extra couple seconds before getting the ball back in Mikey McCollum's hands to actually be fouled. Yeah, played a little game of keepaway there and burn some precious seconds off this clock. Yep, 40 seconds left as Hillsdale holds on to this seven-point lead. Looking really good for them as Mikey McCollum shoots the one-in-one.

Been hot tonight, his 21.9. And he's going to make the first free throw. Clutch free throw from McCallum. Yeah, very, very important free throw here. Freshman Guard has become a bigger and bigger part of this team as the season is worn on. And this might be his best game of the season. As he shoots the second free throw and makes it as well. Very clutch. Nine point game now.

Yeah, Muffmer with the ball, trying to take on Router, trying to get an early, easy shot. And he takes a fadeaway three-pointer and he makes it. What a difficult shot by Muffmer. Mothmer to cut the lead down to six. 71 to 65 with 31.4 seconds left in the second half. When it looks like it's all over, he takes the most ridiculous fadeaway three, and it's nothing but net. You said he was looking for an easy shot.

He certainly didn't find it, but he found the bottom of the net on that one. He found a shot. He found a shot, and he made it work. Great shot for Mothmer. that's why he's a leading candidate to be G-Mack player of the year. Yeah, he's still, even with the great Joe Ruder defense that they've played on him all night. Joe Ruder, not letting him have any space barely able to play any help defense all game. 21 points.

The assignment has not been easy for Joe Ruder, but I think he's done a spectacular job. Made everything hard on Mothmer, but like we've said, great players are going to get their points. no matter how difficult you make it on them. Yeah, so Hillsdale now is going to have possession after the Cedarville timeout. 31.4 seconds left, 71.65. Hillsdale lead. So both teams are going to be in the double bonus. So now when you follow Hillsdale, the good news for them is that they're shooting two free throws and not just one.

Yep. So you have a two-possession game, and it's one free throw until it's a three-possession game, right? Seven points, three-possession game. So Hillsville, I think the biggest thing for Hillsill is this possession right here is get the ball unbounded and make a free throw. Make it a three possession game. Make them have to drive down and score three times in 31 seconds. Yeah, absolutely. Priority number one, take care of the basketball and then make your free throws when you have a chance.

Yeah, is they're going to do just that passing into Mikey McCollum? He's going to take one second off the clock before he's fouled. Yep, McCollum going back to the free throw line where he just hit two. So 71-65, McCollum's shooting two. On the season, McCollum is a 93% free-throw shooter. He hasn't taken many shots, but... He's the guy that you want the ball in the hands of. Definitely the guy you want with the line.

And he makes the first free throw. Yeah. He is shooting 75% tonight from the free throw line. Yeah, that's only a second miss of this. season. He had one miss coming into this game from the free throw line. From the free throw line. He's going to make the second free throw. Seventy-three to 65. Hillsdale lead. Mothrow with the ball. Once again, I'm going to try to probably take a crazy three-point shot. Step back, three-pointer. This time he misses, the Arian grabs the rebound and just chucks it down to, ooh.

The Aryan grabbing the rebound just tries to chuck it down to Router to finish the game off, but tipped by Cedarville player. Yeah, overly aggressive there from C.J. Yerrin, he did not need to try to make that pass. He tried to throw it way up the court to Ruter, who was open, but defender was able to get in the way. Luckily for Hillsdale, he stepped out of bounds and they retained possession. Yeah, Ruter inbounding the ball here.

Pass up to Wudham's. Woodham's is foul, drawing only one second off the clock, so Hillsdale leads 73 to 65 with 17.2 seconds left in the second half of play. Yeah, and if they keep making their first, free throws. That should be enough. Hillsdale is still would kind of be an upset taking on number one team in the GMAC. Cedarville who's dropped a couple of games as Woodham makes the first free throw. Nine point lead for Hillsdale 17.2 seconds. Yeah I guess it's fair to call it an upset but

as we've stated the GMAC has been super competitive this year and these teams are only one game apart. Yeah, not surprised to see Hillsdale take this one. No, it was supposed to be a close match and that's really what it has been all game as Mothmer takes the ball, passes it out, and Davis with the three-pointer going to rim out and grab by the area and he's going to be fouled once again. So Hillsdale, 10 point lead, eight seconds left. I think it's fair to chalk this one up in the win column. I think, I think it's finally safe to say the, what's the old saying? I have no idea. The cows have come home.

Is that a saying? Yeah, something like that. You just made that up. No, I didn't just make it out. Yarian, taking two free throws right here. He's going to make the first. We'll play until the cows come home. The cows have come home.

The game's over. The game's over. 11 point lead for Hillsdale, eight seconds left. Yarian misses the second free throw off at front of the limb, rim, but all going to be shot by Davis. the other end by Cedarville going to bank a three-pointer. Another bank three. And Hillsdale just going to hold the ball, let the clock run out. So Hillsdale comes away with the lead. 76 to 65. A great win by Hillsdale as they look to it as they improve in their GMAC standings.

Yep. Now 10 wins in the GMAC. This was a huge game for them. And it makes their next contest contest with Ashland on Saturday even more important. Yeah, great game by freshman Mikey McComb, 25 points, shooting 5 for 8 from the 3-point line. Great game also by Charles Woodham's, 15 points. Two assists, nine rebounds more offensively. C.J. Yarian, seven assists, 11 points, seven rebounds. And Joe Ruder, 10 points, 12 rebounds, two offensively, and six assists. Great game and three steals by Joe Ruder.

Yeah, like we said, a number of guys filling up the stat sheet tonight, getting contributions from a lot of different guys in the roster. Great win for the Chargers.
