Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
You're listening to Chargers basketball live on 101.7 Radio Free Hillsdale.
My name is Mark Ayers, co-host of the four-man front.
I'm running play-by-play today alongside Patrick Hamilton, my fellow co-host, and your analyst for today.
Patrick, how are we doing?
Mark, it's a great day here at Hillsdale, another basketball game, home for the Chargers.
We're looking at the teams warming up live on the hard court right now.
Lake Erie's huddling up, Chargers still in, their running lines.
This is looking to be an exciting matchup today.
Both teams are currently on a two-loss streak, looking to break that train today.
One of them will succeed, one of them will fail.
Patrick, who are we looking for in terms of impact players for the Chargers?
For Impact players of the Chargers, I'm really looking at senior players.
Cole McWinney. He is currently the playmaker of the team being sixth in the GMAC right now for leading
assist. Three and a half assists per game. He's also made a lot of noise on the defensive side.
Last time you and I were here on the radio, we saw Cole McWenny have a lot of clutch deals
defensively and defensive rebounds in order to honestly move the ball up court, which ended up leading
into transition points. And so we're going to be looking for him, as well as Connor Stonebreaker
coming off the bench. Right now, a top 15 player in the GMAC leading in rebounds and also
to just overall shooting percentage. He's coming off the bench and he's going to have a very
impactful day scoring for the charges. He's had a great season so far. Of course, also Ashton
Janowski, their lone returning starter, that point guard leading that dynamic offense for
the Chargers. But here we go. The teams are lining up right now. We're about to sing the
national anthem. 20 seconds left in the warm up.
Your game will be coming to you live in just a moment.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and as I recently had to confess, I'm the one that barged in while my roommate was sleeping, talking to myself, slamming the door, and turning on all the overhead lights.
Even worse than my complete lack of situational awareness,
was the grammar of that previous sentence, but it's kind of hard to spot, so let's rewind.
I'm the one that barged in.
Did you spot it this time?
If you pointed at that, you're right.
Unless I'm an AI or something not alive, who is preferred to that when referring to a person, keyword person.
Don't use who for animals, no matter how many thousands of dollars you've spent on their food.
This rule gets tricky when you're referring to groups of people, like sports team.
When in doubt, I vote for using who, even if the subject is a reference to people and not actually a person.

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
You're listening to Charges Basketball.
Coming to you live from 101.7
Radio Free Hillsdale.
We're watching, currently watching
the Lake Erie Storm's starting roster coming out we have number two Gavin Welch a freshman i'm sorry
Gavin Welch he plays forward he's a junior 6-6 out of Newcastle indiana number four griffinterrey
sophomore number 11 Amari williams junior number 15 Kai bloom sophomore number 32 ronnie leonard
junior that's your starting five for the lake erie storm but now here's the hillsdale
Chargers getting ready to come out we have number 22 Tommy Morgan the
freshman leading that dynamic freshman squad Patrick we've seen the young faces
get a lot of minutes so far we'll see if we can we'll see if they get more
rotation here tonight then we have number 11 Cole McWenny we've already
talked about him and how dynamic he can be alongside Ashton Janowski number
two the senior he's out there with number 24 Garrett Boltie and number 31
CJ Yerian.
This is the starting five that we've seen
perform very well in the games
that we have watched so far.
We'll see how they do here tonight
against the Lake Erie Storm.
The goal for the Chargers today
is can they play this full team basketball?
We've seen them in the past,
especially in their recent wins that they've had
when they're controlling the ball
offensively, doing all their
off ball moving. I want to highlight
Cole McWinney again. He is
just great playmaker. He's finding
the open guide while you have a backside movement, which is something you don't really see from
a whole lot of teams right now. We saw in the past, we've seen teams do a lot of ISO ball.
It'll be interesting to see how Lake Erie is going to play offensively and defensively,
but the Chargers can stick to their game, moving the ball, having a lot of offball movement,
and finding the open cutter. They're predominantly scoring inside the paint. You don't see a whole
lot of true sharpshooters on the Chargers team. You have one or two, but a lot of their points,
if not almost all their points are going to come from inside the paint that's absolutely right
and i'm so glad you mentioned that patrick because while lake erie is overall taller than the
chargers they do not have a match for cj yerion the 610 junior forward he plays
yerian plays deep in the paint he's one of the ones scoring most of those inside points that
you were talking about patrick we'll see if he can utilize his height advantage tonight
But we'll also see from him being able to control and possess the ball.
And then also finding an open cutter.
That's the one thing that the Chargers have done so well this season is backdoor cuts.
Can they finish on the boards?
Can they finish an easy layup?
That will be the tail of this game.
Yeah, absolutely.
The passing game for the Chargers has been really, really good so far in the season.
We'll see what happens now.
All right.
Here we go.
CJ Erion facing off against Gavin Welch for the tip off.
And we're off. Chargers start with the ball.
And there's a foul right away.
Well, what a beginning.
It's going to go against the Chargers.
Lake Erie will have the ball.
Interesting call.
I think they called on the floor and over and back to start the game off.
It looked like CJ Yerian possessed the ball on the front court
and then made a backward pass to Cole McWinney into the back court.
Lake Erie ball
Interesting interesting
All right here's Lake Erie number 15
Kai Bloom trying to pass it around
Doesn't have anything
Lake Erie looking active on the outside
Trying to make something happen with a cut
That was Kai Bloom
Cutting inside
Tried to go up for it
Was fouled instead
Fow's going to go against number 11
Cole McGuney
Guy Bloom's going to get two
Lake Erie coming out aggressive to start
Kai with his first free throw
makes it
and Lake Erie puts the first points on the board
1 to 0
looks like the charges have come out man to man
which we haven't really seen in the last couple games
where they've normally come out in zone
so it'll be interesting to see how
maybe a new Chargers defensive plan
will work for them today. Kai makes his second free throw
and here's an interesting look. Lake
is coming out in full court press early maybe trying to rattle the charges a little bit
garrett bolte in trouble beating the trap passes it out to janowski jianowski from the line does
not get the shot off lake erie has the ball again again fast and aggressive here's number
11 amari williams on the outside down cutting in is number four griffin terray terray put
up a shot does not have it gets his own rebound dishes it out to 15 back to marie williams up
at the top Williams takes a three drills in lake here is now up five nothing on hillsdale aggressive quick start
from the storm here looking to throw the chargers off their game play on their own terms here's
bolty working on his own side of the court asking it out to Tommy Morgan Morgan beating the trap
Cole McWenny up at the top of the key he has the ball now McWenny slowing the game down
dribbling it out dishes to Janowski nowski nowski dribbling around
Chargers looking to create separation on the inside.
Here goes Janowski with the layup, and it's good.
A great behind layup for Janowski.
Put the Chargers on the board.
And a steal for the Chargers, almost.
Chargers playing aggressive ball.
Almost get a steel.
Lake Erie maintains control.
Great rebounding from Lake Erie as they put up a couple shots.
Can't get anything off,
currently beating the charges on the rebound game.
In the moment that I was trying to explain the first turnover,
they had a couple more that they almost had.
I mean, this Lake Gary team is really just throwing the ball
all over the place right now.
The charges finally get the pickoff.
I mean, good grief, Patrick.
They were literally heaving up shots at the board.
They were throwing the ball around all over the place.
No one had full control.
Chargers could not capitalize until, what, like five or six shots?
in.
Yeah, you mentioned earlier that, I mean, Lake Erie overall, on average, has the height advantage.
And that's already coming into play right now.
They are dominating on the boards.
They are right, it's three to one rebounds.
It seems like they have a lot more rebounds than what the stats say.
But they are just dominating on these boards.
And also, too, they're just getting these second chance shots that the Chargers are unable to finally just get off the defensive side.
And look at this aggression we've seen.
I mean, ball, it was a quick turnover, and Lake Erie immediately hopped into a full court press.
Reaction time, incredible, and aggressive defensive and offensive game plan will make for a very interesting game.
Yeah, absolutely.
It seems like their game plan so far hasn't been a specific type of offense, but rather just an aggressive past the ball anywhere mentality.
Which is continuing now with the complete line change for Lake Erie as they substitute their entire.
team out looking to keep fresh bodies on the field but they travel chargers will now have the ball
chargers catching a big break right there and we've seen lake erie in all of their games they are
doing big line changes they're going to have a lot of the reserves coming in which is going to really
help with this very aggressive defense that they're running lake erie maintaining the full court
press during the analysis we had cole mcweeney make a free throw the score is now three to five
Hillsdale 3, Lake Erie 5.
And something you don't like to see.
The full core press was able to get into the front court.
And Cole McWinney, triple teamed right there, turning the ball over,
and in a fit of frustration, ended up committing a foul.
Here comes number 10.
Trace Bishko.
Out there for Lake Erie, dribbling the ball up.
Lake Erie, slowing the ball down a little bit.
Working up at the top of the team.
Now trying to get some movement on the outside.
Doesn't have it.
Trace with the ball again.
driving inside, puts up
an elbow shot, misses. Chargers
rebound, C.J. Arian.
The Arian, passed to McQuinnie.
McWenny's bringing it up. Still in four-core
press for Lake Erie. McQuinny to Boltie.
Boltee, C.J. Arian, wide open.
Outside shot, does not have it.
Chargers ball still.
Tommy Morgan, driving inside.
He gets foul.
Chargers will have the ball
on the baseline.
Good response
from the Chargers.
aggressive not letting the full court press get to them outcome McWenny and Tommy
Morgan and in go Raylam Morris and he's currently the guys to the ball in so I
cannot see him I think that number four that's right Paxton Gertz
Garrett Bolte working on the post puts up a shot he's got it Chargers get two
more matching the score five five Lake Erie working
the top of the key. Lots of picks for Lake Erie working against this Chargers defense. Really,
they want to get inside to that paint lane. But they put up a deep three instead, and it's no good.
Chargers have the ball. C.J. Yerrian, under pressure as he comes down with the rebound.
He's going to end up getting fouled by Lake Erie, Chargers ball.
We are now arguing with the ref.
Chargers ball.
Paxton Gertz is throwing it in for the Chargers.
Gertz will now bring it up the court.
Still, that lots of aggression from Lake Erie,
constantly trying to go for the trap,
for the double team,
forcing Ashtonowski to call a timeout.
Chargers really trying to deal with the pressure
presented by Lake Erie.
right now. This is not a slow-moving game. Lake Erie wants to play on their own terms. They're
keeping it aggressive, keeping pressure on Hillsdale. Very interesting, Patrick, to see how they
deal with this. It kind of looks like it's getting to them, honestly. It really does. You can
see it as they're walking off into the huddle that they seem to be pretty agitated. And that's not
something you like to see early on. The score is still 5-5, so it's not like Lake Erie's ran away with
this, but it doesn't seem like Hillsdale is going to be playing their game. They're not playing
their game right now. I mean, everything seems a little sped up, and they're really playing on the
same wavelength as Lake Erie, which is not the same. They don't even play the same game. There's
nothing right now similar in how they're playing. You have, you have one very, like, it's just very
aggressive. Yeah, no, that's very methodical, and Lake Erie is really speeding up the tempo of the
chargers, and it doesn't look like they're able to keep their composure right now.
I agree completely. We've seen Hillsdale in the past really like to slow the game down,
set up good passing around the perimeter, and Lake Erie is just not allowing that.
They're forcing Hillsdale to make passes they don't want to make.
They're forcing Hillsdale to play more in the mid-range when they'd rather spread the ball out.
Lake Erie seems to have an effective game plan. We'll see if the charges can
break it. Now here's number three, Braille and Morris passing it in for the chargers.
Passing it into Gertz. Gertz at the top of the key. Single man pressure. Gertz working
around them. Gertz gets a pick, passing it out to Morris. Morris back up to the top to number
30, kind of Stonebreaker. Ashen Ginooski now with a mid-range shot. It's up and it's good.
Wow, what a tough shot that was. Great shot. Under pressure, Janowski puts up a good one.
Now here's number 10, Trey Spisco.
Working for Lake Erie.
Lake Erie, looking like they're running off ball screens right now.
Number one, Lewis Connor puts up a shot.
Misses, does not have it.
Braylon Morris with the rebound.
Morris to Janowski.
Still the full court from Lake Erie.
Paxton Gertz.
Back out to Janowski.
Janowski with a three, it's good.
He has not missed yet.
You saw there, Hillsdale just beat the zone that Lake Erie is running.
great ball movement and that's what you want to see from the charges all game long.
Absolutely. Number 34, Gio Moore trying to drive inside for Lake Erie, put up a layup
but did not have it. Great defense from Connor Stonebreaker. Now Paxton Gertz at the top of the
key. Working gets a single man. Number one, Riley Sorenka. Gertz gets free. Gertz passing it out
to Janowski. Janowski now with the top of the key. Raylon Morris gets an open shot.
puts up a three, does not have it. Stonebreaker with a good rebound. Stonebreaker in the paint,
puts up the go-ahead, does not have it, but he gets fouled. It's going to be on the floor.
And with 1432 left to go in the first, your score is Hillsdale 10, Lake Erie 5.
You're listening to Chargers basketball on 101.7 FM. We'll see you in a minute.
after perhaps one of the coolest people in American history, Houston, Texas.
Founded on August 30th, 1836 by land investors,
the city gets its name from the general and politician Sam Houston.
Houston led Texas to independence from Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto,
just 25 miles from the future site of Houston, Texas,
and taking place months before the city's founding.
The city served as the capital of the Republic of Texas,
which existed from March 2, 1836 to February 19th, 1846,
before it became a 28th state.
Houston, the man, served as the president of the Republic of Texas for most of its existence,
and was one of the inaugural senators representing Texas after it became a state.
He is a long and impressive military career and was a respected politician.
It seems fitting that there should be a major city named after someone as influential and impressive as Sam Houston.
This is Megan Pitcock, and you've been listening to What's in a Name on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
You're listening to Chargers Basketball on 101.1.7 FM, Radio Free Hillsdale.
While you were gone, we had back-to-back consecutive fouls for the Chargers.
Lake Erie scored.
The score is now Chargers 10.
Lake Erie 7.
Full line change again for Lake Erie.
And into the game for the Chargers comes Caleb Glazer.
Lake Erie gets a good steal there from the Chargers.
They have scored twice in a row now.
It is now Hillsdale 10.
hearing nine, that full court pressure that we've been talking about all game is really starting
to hit home for the Chargers.
Something we will probably have to watch is because of Hillsdale's young lineup that they have,
you see three freshmen getting a lot of playtime.
Is this full court defense going to be a bad thing for this young team that we see here?
Speaking of freshman, there's Tommy Morgan passing it into Cole McWenny.
Cole McWinney makes a good pass to Janowski.
Janowski back out to Morgan, back out to Janowski, who takes another three, and it's good again.
Janowski's starting the scoring early for the Chargers.
Lake Erie gets a pass inside.
Trouble at the top of the key for Lake Erie.
They settle.
There's number 11, Amari Williams.
Dishing it out to number 15, Kai Bloom.
Bloom inside to Griffin's Hurray, who puts up a layup does not have it.
Caleb Glazer with the defensive rebound for the Chargers.
Under pressure, Glazer, back out to McWen.
When he makes a very tough pass to Janowski.
Janowski dribbling in, trying to get some paint action.
Instead, dishes it out to Connor Stonebreaker, who takes a three, does not have it.
But phenomenal rebound by Tommy Morgan, who dishes it to Janowski with another three.
He misses it for the first time tonight, I believe.
Lake Erie gets the wall.
There's Amari Williams bringing it up for Lake Erie.
Back out to Kai Bloom.
Bloom, attempts to pass inside.
Does not have it, but is fouled by the Chargers.
They're going to call a hole.
Out goes Janowski.
In goes Paxton, Gertz.
Back in for the Chargers.
Lake Erie ball.
Score.
Hillsdale 13, Lake Erie 9.
Amari Williams, bringing it up for Lake Erie at the top of the key.
Williams under pressure.
Dishing it out.
Lake Erie loses the ball.
It's going to go to the Chargers win.
out goes stonebreaker in goes garret boltie and yerry and is back in for caleb glazer
Cole McWenny passing it in passes it to boltie boltie still under that full court pressure
Paxton gerts now has the ball still on his side of the court they make it pass halfway
half court there goes Garrett bolty
All right. Chargers have settled now. Tommy Morgan with the ball at the top of the key.
Morgan passing it out to Yerian. Yerian back to Morgan looking for the give and go action.
Morgan at the post looking for a shot. Does not have it. Lots of good defense by number two, Gavin Welch for Lake Erie.
Lake Uri now passing it around the perimeter trying to look for an open shot. Don't have anything right now.
Number 15, Kai Bloom cuts in for a layup. Good cut there by Lake Erie.
Because of the full court pressure, Lake Erie is putting on the Chargers.
Garrett Bolte attempted a tough pass to C.J. Yerrian who missed it.
That's another turnover for the Chargers.
Lake Erie will have the ball on the Chargers sideline.
Not a great start for the Chargers.
They are currently winning with 1140 left to go in the game.
They're winning 13 to 11.
However, lots of risky maneuvers, lots of long.
passes lots of just honestly patched just chaotic playing so far it hasn't looked settled it hasn't
looked dynamic it's looks like they're trying to force passes when they really shouldn't be like
they're trying to just make things happen that just are not there what do you think the best way
i can describe it right now is it feels like the chargers are trying to play a game of hot potato
almost they are just getting the ball out of their hands as quick as possible and it's not
the smartest passes that we see.
We just saw that turnover where CJ Yerian unable to gain possession of the ball
with the passing from Garrett Bolte.
Again, Boltee running up and down the baseline, having to find the opening guy,
making a really fast and sharp pass to CJ that he was unable to catch.
We've seen that right now.
I mean, right now they have a lot of turnovers,
and that's not something you like to see already from U4 turnovers,
not even 10 minutes into the game.
that is not something you like to see
especially looking to gain
and break the losing streak that Hillsdale has
we'll see if the chargers
can cool down that hot potato here
but first they're going to have to get a defensive stop
Lake Erie has the ball
passing it in
there's number 10
Trace Biscoe
holding it at the top of the key for Lake Erie
Lake Erie really likes
the screen give and go action
for the cut inside
Instead, they dish it back out to number five.
Who takes a three, does not have it.
Looks like the charges have successfully switched back into the zone defense.
And we saw there, while Lake Erie was able to get an open shot,
this allowed for a better possession for the Chargers.
They might be allowing Lake Erie to take a couple shots.
We don't know how well they trust their ability to shoot threes.
Bolty and a lot of pressure brings it across half court for the Chargers.
and this full court is really clearly rattling them
they're going to call
a hold on legiery
on one of the chargers off ball screens
chargers will have the ball
out goes tommy morgan and in goes braylum morris for the hillsdale
chargers morris been dynamic so far
he was dynamic at the last game we saw another one
of those freshmen that we've been talking about, those young faces for Hillsdale.
Janowski made a three, but it's not going to matter
because they called a foul on CJ Yerian.
It is now Lake Erie ball, and look at this.
The Chargers are now switching into a full court press.
Trying to fight fire with fire.
Janowski pressing up on number 24, Aiden Filipini.
But Lake Erie beats.
it. Now number 10. Trace Bishko, bringing it up for Lake Erie.
Bishko, out on the wing, looking for an open inside pass. He has one to 34. Gio Moore.
More working inside the paint, trying to put up a mid-range shot, does not have it off the glass.
Janowski with the rebound. Janowski, and lots of pressure, they're going to call Charger Ball.
Janowski being pushed into his own baseline by a double team.
Yeah, I don't know about that call right there.
It looked like Janowski got bumped, but everything was completely on him.
Here goes a deep bum to Janowski, who does not have it.
Lake Erie gets the ball back and trying to cut inside.
They lose control.
This is just, the ball is flying all over the court right now.
It's switched possession about five times in the past 10 seconds.
And now we have an injury on the court.
During the mad scramble, C.J. Yerry and slow to get up.
but he does get up
he's back on the court now
seems to be okay
might have just hit his head a little hard
your time is 1023
Hillsdale 13 Lake Erie 11
Braylam Morris passing it in for Hillsdale
finds Janowski
Janowski trying to beat the double team
passing it out to Cole McWenny
who was brutally pushed over
by number five for Lake Erie
Rokas Castillo
No foul is called
until Castillo goes up for a layup
and a shooting foul is called
Call McWenny
just absolutely slammed in the back
he was trying to bring the ball up
no foul on that one, a little questionable
don't you think Patrick? Yeah I think so on that one
and it seems that there's been some interesting calls
throughout the night a lot of things that should be foul
that aren't called and things that are clearly not fouls that we just saw right there going
up for a lay of not being called but it's going to be tough you've such a highly aggressive
on both sides we're seeing now hills still starting to pick up the aggression so it'll be
interesting to see how the game is being called if it's going to be called looser or if it's
going to continue to get tighter and tighter calling like we've seen just now both three throws
were missed for lake erie garrett bolted with the rebound bolting now trying to beat pressure
finds t jerry and very deep ashtonowsky now has the ball on the wing as the chance
Chargers beat the full core press.
Janowski slowing the game down, facing pressure from Traceco.
Here go CJ Yerry and at the top of the key.
Now bat dishing it out to Cole McWenny.
McWenny back out to Janowski.
Janowski working on the wing trying to get up a shot.
He puts one up.
It misses.
Bounces off the rim.
It's a little short.
Janowski losing that fire that he had at the beginning of the game.
We'll see if he gets it back later.
The crowd is calling for travel on Lake Erie.
They don't get it.
Bake Erie now working on the top of the key against the Chargers.
Trace Bisco drives in, puts up a layup, and he has it.
Bisco now tying his shoe.
Okay.
Garrett Boltey passing it in for the Chargers.
Fines Cole McWenny.
McWenny to Braylon Morris at half court.
Morris trying to drive in.
Morris is at the wing now.
Slowing the game down is Morris.
Morris passing it out to Bolte.
Bullty at the top of the key, passing it to Janowski on the wing.
Back to Yerian.
Aaron, looking for the drive inside, doesn't have it.
Morris puts up a shot from the wing.
It's good.
Scores now 16, Hillsdale, 13.
Lake Erie.
Lake Erie now with the ball in the wing.
Again, those offball screens for Lake Erie have been huge so far.
Number 24 for Lake Erie puts up a three, does not have it.
Charters with the rebound.
Braylon Morris, bringing it up for Hillsdale, looking to drive inside.
Dissing it to Yerian.
Yerian puts up a layup.
Got it. Great pass from Morris. The freshman finding the open man.
Here goes Lake Erie now. Lake Erie, trying to find motion on the perimeter. They don't have anything.
Number 21, trying to drive inside. Takes three instead. It's good. Lake Erie, 16, Hillsdale, 18.
Here's Garrett Boltey for the charges, passing it in.
Boltey, looking for an open man, just finds Cole McWenney, who loses
control, looking for a foul, maybe a push call against number five.
Rokas Castillo does not have anything.
Rets are saying that he lost control himself.
It's going to be Lake Erie ball on Hillsdale's side of the court.
Yeah, from up here, Mark, it looked like that was clearly a hold.
You saw Cole's whole entire arm go behind his back.
It seems that, you know what, they're starting to call a little bit of a lusia game,
allowing these boys to play.
But you can definitely tell that the potato is starting to cool down for the chargers.
Literally the temperature in here is starting to calm down.
You saw Braylin Morris.
I mean, that shot, smooth as butter.
Finally putting the chargers, finally getting some momentum going their way.
And then, of course, that back door pass, C.J. Earing, cutting across the baseline,
up with a year step into a layup.
That is Hillsdale basketball right there.
Driving in, taking a two-on-one matchup, finding that open guy,
and then getting an easy basket.
Absolutely.
Well, and I love to see also the full court response from Hillsdale.
They haven't brought it out too many times since the first time that you heard me mention it.
But I like to see that they're not afraid to match Lake Erie's intensity and say,
you want to play full court?
Fine, we'll play full court.
But the thing about what their press is doing is not, they're not doing it as,
oh, you know, this is how they're playing.
We're going to play this way.
They're saying, no, this is part of our game plan.
We are going to up the level of aggression more than you guys.
They're sticking to their game plan.
They're finally on track and playing Hillsdale College Basketball,
which is what you like to see from the Chargers.
You love to see it, don't you?
You love to see it.
Line change for Hillsdale,
as they now have to play defense again after yet another turnover.
Turnover struggles really starting to come in for the Chargers here.
Number four for Lake Erie, Griffin's Hurray, drives into the paint.
puts up a shot doesn't have it but gets his own rebound over three chargers and makes the shot the score is now tied 18 to 18 Tommy Morgan facing a lot of pressure from number four Griffin's hooray as he drives it up passing it out to Paxton Gerts now
Gertz on the wing Tommy Morgan puts up a three airball wide unfortunate for Morgan Lake Erie now bringing it up Lake Erie passing it out to the wing puts up a shot that's number two Gavin Welch and he makes
it. That's a three for Lake Erie. Your score is now Hillsdale 18, Lake Erie, 21. Tommy Morgan,
facing a double team. Beads it by passing it out to Gertz. Gertz slowing the game down at the top
of the key. Back out to Morgan. Morgan, looking for an open man, has Connor Stonebreaker.
Stonebreaker, looking for a pass inside, back to Morgan. It's tipped up by Lake Erie and goes
into the stands. Chargers ball. Out goes Stonebreaker. In goes Garrett Bolte.
as Paxton Gertz get ready to pass it in.
Gertz looking for an open man.
Has Caleb Glazer outside.
Janowski has the ball now at the top of the key.
Janowski looking to drive inside, looking for a layup.
Puts up a shot, heavily contested, does not get it.
Lake Erie ball.
Lake Erie on the wing.
Lake Erie loses control, Chargers ball.
Lake Erie, looking for a pass inside to number 32.
Ronnie Leonard.
Leonard missed the ball.
though, tipped it out, Chargers ball.
Now here's a guy we see right now in Paxton being able to make these.
He's really killing it on the defensive side.
He's finding open guys too offensively.
He's not making a huge scoring impact, but he is making a huge playmaking impact.
Great pass from Tommy Morgan there to Ashton Janowski.
Janowski now has the ball at the top of the key.
Chargers are effectively beating this full court press from Lake Erie.
Paxton Gertz now has the ball.
at half court, slowing it down.
Gertz, looking for a shot on the wing.
Back out to Janowski.
Gertz gets a shot on the wing, puts it up for three, and it's good.
Splash for the charges.
I have to take back what I say, because you saw Pax and Gertz just make a huge impact on the scoring side.
There we go.
Scores now 21, 21, tied.
Lake Erie, trying to drive inside.
Doesn't have anything.
They pass it out to number 15.
Kai Bloom.
Kai Bloom puts up a three, and he has.
lot of outside shots today by both teams and a very difficult pass to paxton gerts to finish
the possession and they're going to call it travel on caleb blazer that looked like a travel
to you patrick i'm not sure i don't really think that was it was more of a gather step because he
didn't have full possession of the ball he's moving but that's what i thought too i well whatever
Anyway, we're not going to argue with the refs on this show for too long anyways
Travel called Caleb Blazer Lake Erie Ball
Amari Williams bringing it up for Lake Erie
Here goes Williams Williams at the top of the key
William working the outside trying to find a pass
Has one to number two Gavin Welch

Amen Dignam, Fox News.
Welcome back to Chargers basketball coming to you live from 101.7.
FM Radio 3 Hillsdale.
The Chargers got the ball back and turned it over again after the completed free throw by Amarro Williams.
So your score now is Hillsdale 23, Lake Erie 28.
Travel calls have started to become a real issue for the Chargers as we just saw their second,
but they now got a defensive rebound and have the ball back.
Garrett Boltey trying to work inside, passing it out to Cole McWenny,
who gets hit as he shoots.
No foul called, but the three goes wide.
CJ Yuri in attempts to get the rebound, but does not get it.
It's going to be Lake Erie ball.
Pretty physical game so far, Patrick.
Yeah, it's starting to see interesting, especially Lake Erie.
There's a lot of hand checking going on on the defense,
and it seems to be when you're diving for the ball,
there seems to be a lot of aggression.
That's how we'll say it for today.
A lot of aggression, and I have to say a lot of missed opportunity.
from the Chargers and also missed opportunities for foul calls.
The thing, though, is that I mentioned earlier, speaking of foul trouble, Mark, you have Ashton
Janowski, Cole McQuinnie and CJ Yerian, all with early fouls, something you don't like
to see, especially with a whole other half of basketball to play.
So we'll have to see, are your starters for the Chargers going to have to slow down the
aggression so that they stay out of foul trouble, or are they going to pick up this aggression
and match fire with fire?
we would hate to see those three in particular get into foul trouble and potentially leave this game
yeah you have your big man you have your playmaker and your leading score that'd be devastating for the chargers cannot allow that to happen
you can only imagine that that's what coach is telling them right now in this timeout that we are now coming out of
coming out of the time out your time is 352 on the clock hillsdale 23 lake erie 28 both teams have six total foul
at the moment.
Lake Erie will have the ball
coming out of the timeout.
Chargers not playing full court defense,
willing to let Lake Erie come to them,
perhaps save some of their intensity
for the other side of court.
Lake Erie looking for paint shots right now.
They get one up.
That's number 24.
Aiden, Filipini, who puts up a post shot and gets it.
Huge lob for the Chargers to CJ Yerian.
Yerian back out to McWenny now as the Chargers beat the press.
But each one of these passes is more and more dangerous.
We'll see how long they can keep this up.
Janowski driving inside for a layup.
He's got it.
Chargers, 25, Lake Erie, 30.
Lake Erie now, Kai Bloom at the top of the key, trying to work in.
Number 21 now.
Kalem Etheridge.
Trying to get something going, doesn't have anything.
Lake Erie, really working the outside right now, working on the perimeter.
That was number 10.
Trace Biscoe, who tried to put up a three.
Did not have it.
Chargers have the ball, attempting to beat the double team.
Here's Braylon Morris now with the ball.
Ashton Janowski to Cole McQuine.
McWenny has the ball at the top of the keys slowing down, setting up the Chargers offense.
McWenny gets a screen from Eerian.
McWenny dishes it out to number 24.
Garrett Boltey who puts up a three and does not have it.
Yerian attempts to get the rebound, doesn't get it.
Kai Bloom has the ball driving in, looking for a layup.
He has it.
Kai Bloom's so dynamic for Lake Erie so far.
It looks like there could have been two fouls on that play, both 21 and 15 for Lake Erie.
Both, a lot of holding you see right now.
I mean, we say, oh, these chargers can't get open for a pass because all they're being held, like, offensive line.
I think actually almost every call so far against Lake Erie has been holding.
Yeah.
Really something to look for.
As Hillsdale is now in bonus.
So it looks like Janowski is going to have a one-in-one.
Someone you want to see start to get moving is number 24, Garrick Boltie.
He is a very good score for the Chargers.
And right now he's struggling from beyond the arc.
But you'd love to see him, especially in the second half, start to get those shots falling.
Especially with their missing, their six-man, Mikey McCollum, suffering from injuries right now.
One of their leading scores, and honestly, they're one of their best three-point shooters.
That was the guy right there that was making everything from beyond the arc.
And he's right now in injury reserve.
Janowski makes both of his free throws.
Lake Erie has the ball again.
Amari Williams trying to get a pass inside.
Doesn't have anything.
Number 32, looking for paint, dishes it out to Williams.
Williams puts up a three, does not have it.
Tommy Morgan with the rebound.
Morgan, under pressure now.
Lake Erie has stayed in this full court press the entire game
and shows no signs of letting up.
Yeah, we see right now.
I mean, look at the fouls.
You have six, seven fouls right now.
on both sides very very aggressive defense on both sides that you see and these
reps are calling it like i said you have six and seven fouls
Caleb blazer has the ball in the paint blazer puts up a shot doesn't have it but stone
breakers there stonebreaker can't get anything cannot come down with the ball
unfortunate for the chargers they get no points off of that possession now here's
amari williams driving in but it's blocked by tommy morgan good show by the freshman
and Morgan is under tons of pressure.
Gets shubbed to the ground, but no call.
Amari Williams back out now to number two.
Gavin Welch.
Welch misses the three.
The Chargers have the ball again.
Here's Ashton Janowski.
Janowski beating the double man.
Now the triple man.
Still beats it.
Stonebreaker has the ball.
Driving inside.
Looking for a shot.
Does not have it.
Chaos ball right now.
Janowski has the ball again.
Gets the steel.
I mean, that's just ridiculous.
The Lake Erie guy has two hands fully extended on Ashtonowski, and there's no call right there.
Possession has changed lots recently, but now the Chargers have the ball.
Again, Ashton Janowski at the top of the key, working against a single man, trying to get something together.
Passes it out to number 11, Cole McWenny, who puts up a three and drains it.
So the 17 seconds left to go in the first.
The score is now.
Hillsdale 30, Lake Erie, 32.
It's very fortunate that Hillsdale is in bonus right now
because for Lake Erie team that's been fouling a lot,
they cannot afford to do that anymore.
Hillsdale's two close in points,
and the one-in-ones that a foul would give them
just simply too dangerous.
Hillsdale climbing out of the hole
that they put themselves into.
now within scoring distance as they end of this timeout.
Yeah, I mean, chaos ball is really just the word of the day here.
This has been insane so far.
Very few well-designed setup plays and honestly more of just chucking and heaving the ball all over the court.
We've seen huge rainbow passes from the chargers as they try to beat this full port breasts.
We've seen lots of people driving in, trying to get layups off the board.
We've seen poor rebounding.
We've seen wild passes go all over the place.
We've seen possession change five times within two second spans.
It has really been all over the place today.
And I think a lot of that has to do with the intensity that Lake Erie is bringing
with that constant full court trapping press, forcing Hillsdale into situation.
that they don't want to be in.
And Hillsdale trying to respond with some intensity of their own.
Really just a wild, wild game today.
We'll see if Hillsdale, as they come in,
as they come out of the timeout,
we'll see if they can set up a good defense.
Keep Lake Erie off the board for 10 more seconds.
Mario Williams has the ball at the top of the key.
He might be looking for a three.
He does. He puts one up.
puts one up it's good splash and that is the half hillsdale 30 lake erie 35 going into half time
i think the biggest thing that hillsdale has to look for is inbounding the ball it almost seems
like when they inbound the ball they're just doing sprints up and down the court they need to find
there's a lot of guys they're not open for very long but they make a move and they're not able to find
the open guy right off the inbound so all of a sudden you have to see
see the inbounding. It's almost like once the four second, right before the five second
call, they're just throwing the ball away. And I think that's a huge problem is that you're
setting up, you're setting up your whole offense possession for failure just based off the
inbound because you're delaying these passes. You need to be able to make a sharp, crisp pass
right away, make a decision because you have open guys. They're not open for two, three seconds,
but they're open for that one, two seconds, and then you need to be able to find that ball
and find that open pass.
And I think that's right there.
That's how you're going to beat this full court defense.
It's not going to be, hey, we're going to carry the ball up
and then draw the double-triple team.
It's going to be the ball moves faster than the defense.
And so you've just got to be able to find those open guys.
And that all starts with inbounding the ball
because they're almost taking the full five seconds
every single solitary time.
And that right there, they're allowing the Lake Erie defense
to set up into this aggressive.
And if you're able just to get inbound the ball,
quick release pass, then right there you're going to beat it.
They've done it once or twice, but they're not consistently doing it.
And I think that's the reason why right now they're down five to this Lake Erie.
Very beatable Lake Erie team.
I mean, they're on a two-game loss streak, but I think the Chargers, if they can capitalize
on sharper, quicker passes, then you'll see a huge momentum shift in favor of the Chargers.
I think you're absolutely right, Patrick.
But also, too, I think they're really going to have to focus on matching the aggression
intensity that Lake Erie is putting on them on the defensive side.
Lake Erie has let almost nothing go inside.
Most of the Chargers points are coming from the perimeter right now, whereas Lake Erie
is having much more success, working the inside, working the paint.
And something that I in particularly noticing is the.
fact that Lake Erie is just simply
beating Hillsdale on the rebound game.
They're not getting, Hillsdale's not getting
rebounds. They just aren't.
Hillsdale, except for
defensive rebounds. They will
sometimes get defensive rebounds. They'll
sometimes let Lake Erie get offensive rebounds, but they
will almost never get successful
offensive rebounds of their own.
And Lake Erie is doing a great job
bringing down
missed shots and turning them
into second-chance buckets.
Hillsdale's going to have to match that intensity
in the second half that they want to win this game.
Yeah, it seems like Hillsdale, to that point,
they're only every possession,
they're only able to get one shot
and few and far between two shots.
Lake Erie is consistently getting two, three shots
every single solitary possession.
So if you look at the stats,
at Hillsdale, again, they're hitting more consistent shots,
but they're having less opportunities to shoot.
And it seems like Lake Erie,
because of their aggression and honestly because of they're crashing the boards you see four guys crashing the boards to hillsdale's one and in some cases there's no hillsdale guy in the area for a rebound and that's something you do not want to see especially when you have the tallest guy on the court who is struggling right now to get rebounds because again he's being boxed out for two three guys but that but if three guys are focused on one that leaves an additional two or three guys open to get a rebound and hillsdale's not capitalizing on the rebounding side.
That's absolutely right.
Well, we'll see if Hillsdale can make some changes recuperate in this second half.
But that is where we're going to leave you for a short break.
You are listening to Chargers Basketball on 101.7 FM Radio Free Hillsdale.
We'll be here with you after the break.
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
You're listening to Chargers basketball on 101.7 FM Radio 3 Hillsdale.
We have one minute to go in halftime.
Chargers are back on the court.
They're warming up their shot.
This has been an exciting game so far, but it's been a game filled with ups and downs, crazy plays,
and a lot of high-intensity pressure from both teams.
We talked about it a little bit before halftime,
but I'll do a short recap.
Lake Erie so far in this game
has played full court double-team trap press
the entire game.
And it's really starting to rattle the Chargers.
It's forced them to make some bad throws.
It's forced them to make several turnovers.
It's put them into positions they don't want to be in.
But we will see if that can change now.
Coming out of halftime, have the Chargers made any adjustments?
Have they figured out a good game plan?
we'll see we'll find out and can they most importantly can they match that intensity your score
leaving halftime hillsdale 30 Lake Erie 35 Lake Erie leading by five points but Hillsdale
chasing and here we go
Teams are getting back onto the court right now.
It looks like it's going to be Lake Erie ball to start the half.
Chargers first on defense.
Current charges on the court are Cole McWenny, Ashton Janowski, Tommy Morgan, C.J. Yarian, and Garrett Boltie.
And here we go.
Bringing it up for Lake Erie is number 11, Amari Williams.
Williams has been their main point guard today, along with number 15, Kai Bloom.
There goes number 32, Ronnie Leonard putting up a three.
He does not get it, but Lake Erie does get the putback.
Again, we talked about rebounding, so huge for Lake Erie, so many of those second-chance buckets they are getting.
And now here's that double team.
They break it.
They pass it out to Bolte.
bolt he takes a short mid-range shot he's got it that's the guy i said earlier you need to see
get going he's going to be a high score if the chargers can get the ball in his hands and he can start
knocking down shots absolutely right here's amari williams now passing it to the outside
dishes it to brooks brooks now to gavin welch welch brings it inside for a layup for lake erie
great passing from lake erie now hillsdale beating that double team beating the full man press
full court press rather here's Janowski now passing it out to McWenny McWenny has it on the wing back to Janowski slowing down now for Hillsdale McWenny is at the top of the key passing it to Bolte
Bolte looking inside to Yerian hearing hearing getting pushed out to mid range here in Wally pass to McWenny
McWenny passes it to Morgan Morgan takes a three it's an air ball it's going to be Lake Erie ball score Hillsdale 32 that
Lake Erie, 39.
Amari Williams now, bringing it up for Lake Erie.
No pressure from Hillsdale.
Number two, Gavin Welch has it on the outside,
passing it back out to Amari Williams.
Kai Bloom now.
Looking inside.
Instead, this is it to number four, Griffin-Tor-Rae.
Torey puts up a layup, and he's got it.
Now it's Garrett Bolte
Long pass now
to Tommy Morgan who saves it
and Ashtonovsky has it in the paint
Dishing it out now. Here goes Garrett Bolty.
Boltee looking inside for Alea
doesn't have it.
Sequence of wild events and wild passes
ends up with Lake Erie ball.
Chargers just
almost got a great shot up
but could not land it.
Instead, Lake Erie has the ball again.
Here goes Amari Williams.
Williams bringing it up for the storm.
Setting up a rotation on the outside.
Now Kai Bloom has it, driving inside.
Again, has the layup again.
He's been doing this all game.
Forces a timeout.
As Lake Erie is now up by 11 points.
Hillsdale 32, Lake Erie, 43.
Patrick Khy Bloom has been an absolute problem so far for Hillsdale.
That little pass, give and go where he gets it, and then immediately cuts in and drives to the basket.
He's been doing it all game.
Hillsdale just doesn't have an answer.
They don't.
He is moving vertically.
He is not moving horizontally.
The second he gets that ball, his eye is on nothing but the net.
And he is driving in there.
And that's something you want to see more out of Hillsdale.
I mean, you have got a lot of opportunities
You've got a lot of mismatches
And it seems like we're being pushed around
And that's something you cannot see
Especially when we play a very aggressive
Interior offensive
And we have a very interior offensive strategy
And we're getting pushed around
Again, Lake Erie is able to get
Second Chance shots
And that is where Hillsdale's failing
They're not only stopping those second change shots
But they're also not getting anything for themselves
They can't buy a bucket right now
It seems like they can't hit anything
thing and coming out of half time you have cinderblock feet that the chargers have these cinder block
feet and lake erie right now they have all the momentum and we'll have to see it's only it's only 32 to
43 lake erie's in the lead but hillsdale they they need to change they need to change something
and they need to change something fast yeah i mean we talked about those second chance buckets right
before half and what do lake erie get immediately coming out of the half they get a second
chance bucket.
Hillsdale, something's got to change on the rebound again,
if Hillsdale wants to win this game.
But here's a chance right now as they pass it into Garrett Boltee.
Hillsdale looking to beat that full court press.
Passing it out, that's Caleb Glazer.
Glazer now has it in mid-range.
Glazer stopped, passing it back out to Bolte.
Boltie's on the perimeter.
Looking for a pass back into Glazer.
Glazer trying to drive into the paint
Glazer in the paint
Glazer putting up a shot
misses it
but Braylon Morris with the rebound
and Braylon Morris with the second chance bucket
there it is what we've been talking about
all game
Braylon Morris gets a great rebound
puts it up and Hillsdale gets the points
34 to 43
Kai Bloom drives in for layup
misses but what happens
Lake Erie gets the rebound and gets a second
chance bucket
Hillsdale could have had to stop there, but instead Lake Erie gets two more points.
Here goes Garrett Bolte, trying to beat the press, beats it.
Back to Janowski, Janowski passing it to Gertz. Gertz on the inside, looking for a pass.
Interior to Glazer doesn't have it. He misses.
Lake Erie has the ball now.
Here's Amari Williams at the top of the key, slowing it down, looking for a pass.
Lake Erie running a lot of off ball screens.
There's number two, Gavin Welch, putting up a shot from mid-range.
from mid range doesn't have it. Hillsdale gets the board and it looks like it's going to be a foul
against Lake Erie. Hillsdale will have the ball. What you don't like to see from Hillsdale
it seems like they're playing hero ball right now. That is something that can not happen against
this aggressive Lake Erie defense. You see right there especially when Glazer had the ball
down on the baseline. He had two wide open Hillsdale guys and refused to pass.
the ball ultimately leading to a turnover in which he drove the ball into three guys you got three
guys on you someone's open you need to find that open ball and that's what hills has done in the past
really well but they're not doing well here tonight paxton gertz passing it into braylon morris who gets
rocked and shoved into the stands morris now passing it back into gertz as they start the possession
again gertz has the ball at half court slowing it down for the charges he gets a pick from
Caleb Glazer. Now passing it inside to Morris. Morris goes up for a dunk over number 34
G.O. Moore. Huge play by the freshman. Phenomenal rotation. And now here's Morris at the top of the
key for Lake Erie. Passing it to Riley Servenka. That put a spark into Hillsdale.
And it forces a turnover. Number 10, Trace Biscoe tried to force a pass. Did not have it. Hillsdale has
the ball again. That's the spark
Hillsdale College needed right there
coming from the
red shirt, the true freshman,
Brayland Morris coming in with a slam
dunk. That's Hillsdale
College basketball right there and a much
needed play in order to change
the momentum in this game. Great
stuff for Morris. Running down
the baseline to put up that slam
over the big man, Gio Morris
6'6.
Awesome play by the freshman.
Well, and Patrick, we talked about how you were going to see a lot of young faces on this team.
How there were a lot of graduations.
I remember Ashton Janowski, the only returning starter from last year.
Yeah, I mean, he was the senior captain last year.
You have Cole McGuney who came off the bench last year, but still, Ashtonovsky being the only returning guy.
This team is full of young guys.
As we see, we have a young guy starting on the team.
And then guess what?
the seventh and eighth guy coming in both are freshmen this year and guess what raylon morris
making a huge impact starting to turn the tide for the chargers this is great to see
chargers coming out of a timeout now 1542 on the clock your score is hillsdale 36 lake erie 45
one thing we've mark and i you know we've talked about and it's something we're going to address here what we've been nervous
about is the young guys not having the confidence in order to go score the ball.
I start to see something different tonight, and that's great to see from Braylon Morris
and all the other young guys taking the ball into their hands, having a lot more confidence
of scoring the ball.
Paxton Gertz bringing it up for Hillsdale, beating the full court press.
Now on his side of the court, gets another pick from Glazer.
Gertz driving inside, passing it out to Morris, but it's stolen by number one, Riley
Servenka, who passes it to 21.
Calam Etheridge
Lake Erie gets two more points
off the steel
Hillsdale has the ball again now
Janowski at the top of the key
looking for an interior pass
doesn't have one instead passing it
around the perimeter to Stonebreaker
Stonebreaker
Stopped at the perimeter
Dishes it to Janowski
Janowski looking for an open man
doesn't have anything
Dishes to Glazer
Hillsdale working the wing
right now
trying to get interior at Stonebreaker
Stonebreaker rolls in
puts out the layup
He's got it.
Two more points for the chargers as they cut Lake Erie's lead to nine.
Here's Lake Erie, working the wing.
Trying to get access on the perimeter.
Riley Servenka puts up a three, doesn't have it.
But number 34, G.O. Moore gets the rebound for Lake Erie and puts up the go-ahead.
Raylon Morris is going to get called with it over.
So Braylon Morris going to get called with the carry there.
Excuse me.
As he was attempting to beat the double team.
Lake Erie has the ball again.
These rebound to put back shots for Lake Erie are really starting to separate the lead.
Hillsdale cannot afford to keep losing the rebound.
But here's a bright spot.
Caleb Glazer gets a steal off the pass-in from Lake Erie.
Glazer dishing it to Cole McQuinnney.
McWenny, now in trouble.
McWenny looking for help.
He's not going to get it.
That seemed like a really fast 10-second call.
McWenny.
McWenny ran out of time.
Yeah, that backcourt violation,
that's something you don't want to see,
especially with this really aggressive defense.
But to me, Mark, that seemed more like seven seconds than it did 10 seconds.
I got to agree with you there, Patrick, but nevertheless, Lake Erie has the ball again.
Working the perimeter, trying to get separation here.
Mari Williams looking for an open shot.
Instead, passes to Kai Bloom.
Kai Bloom takes a deep mid-range, doesn't have it.
Gala Glazer with the rebound.
Glazer passes it to Cole McWenney.
McWenny in trouble again, deep in his boneback court.
Tommy Morgan gets a great dish out to Connor Stonebreaker, who goes.
up a foul is called stonebreaker is on the floor right now next to amary williams it's going
to be a flop by williams great play by tommy morgan the freshman awareness pass the ball while still
in the air to stonebreaker who's driving in again a young face to tommy morgan red shirt freshman
Out of Brunswick, Ohio.
Really stepping up big time for a team that needs leadership.
Team that lost a lot of its major players last year.
He's been a force so far.
Stonebreaker will now have two shots.
Made his first.
Your score now.
Hillsdale, 39.
Lake Erie, 49.
Leading by 10.
Connor Stonebreaker looking to cut that to 9 with his next free throw.
puts it up.
It's good.
Amari Williams for Lake Erie coming out with intensity

that's great defense that's back-to-back possessions
in which Lake Erie had to get a shot
with two seconds let to go on the shot clock
and that's what you want to see from Hills though
they're playing this really aggressive zone defense
Something that they should have started coming out, and I mentioned earlier.
They started out in man-to-man, but now they're doing zone.
You're absolutely right, Patrick.
There's Ashton-Ginowski with a huge cherry pick for Hillsdale.
Great lay-up there.
Ashton Janowski having 18 of the 42 Hillsup points leading this team.
And another hold by Lake Erie.
Hillsdale will have the ball again.
We talked, Patrick, about how holding calls are really, really starting to
they're really starting to add up
right now. Really starting to add up for Lake Erie.
You have four fouls with
not even your seven minutes into
the half.
Scores Hillsdale 41, Lake Erie
49. Could this be a momentum shift
for the Chargers? Passing it into

Tommy Morgan. Morgan going inside.
Morgan passing out to Stonebreaker.
Stonebreaker inside puts up a very
tough shot, no foul called.
He was under a lot of pressure.

Williams. Williams driving inside puts up a layup. Doesn't have it. Great rebounds by Caleb Glazer.
Glazer to Tommy Morgan now. Morgan passing Nicole McWenny. McGuney at the top of the key. Setting up the

to Janowski almost loses control of the ball
but maintains. Gets a pass
to McWenny. Chargers working the perimeter
at the moment. Looking to create
separation. Here goes Janowski.
Janowski dishes back out to Stonebreaker.
Stonebreaker, taking a long three, does not have it.
Shot clock violation for the Chargers.
It's going to be Lake Erie ball.
Here we have a timeout again. We'll see you at the other end
of this time out. Your time on the clock,
1158. Hillsdale, 42, Lake Erie, 49. You're listening to Chargers basketball live on 101.1.7 FM Radio Free Hillsdale. We'll see you in a moment.
Today we'll be talking about the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix, Arizona.
Its history starts in 400 AD with the Ho-Hocum people who built an effective irrigation system through canalways in the desert, which still exists in pieces today.
It is believed a drought led to their demise in 1400 AD.
Its modern history starts in the 19th century, when, in 1867, a Confederate soldier by the name of Jack Swilling founded the Swilling Irrigation Canal Company.
He moved there to take advantage of what the Ho-Hocum had already built.
Because it was a city rising from the ashes of a past civilization,
fellow pioneer Daryl Dupa suggested the name Phoenix
after the mythical bird who did the same.
Thus, the city of Phoenix was born and officially put on the record on May 4th, 1868,
now the capital of Arizona, and the fifth most populous city in the United States,
its name fittingly pays tribute to both the spirit of pioneer America
and the people of ages past.
Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale,

Put up a shot, but did not get it.
Hillsdale has the ball.
Great defensive rebound there by Garrett Bolte.
Ashton Janowski trying to work it up.
Beat this full court press that Lake Erie is presenting them with.
They do.
CJ Erie now has the ball on the inside.
Looking to work the paint.
Get a shot up.
Instead, this is it to Morgan.
Morgan with a three does not have it.
No rebound for the Chargers.
Lake Erie has the ball.
Lake Erie working the outside right now.

Hillsdale, 47, Lake Erie, 52.
Here goes number 10, Trace Bisco, bringing it up for Lake Erie.
Passing it out to number five, Castillo.
Castillo goes up for a layup.
Does not have it, they're going to call a foul.
Great defense by the Chargers so far.
They've just got to avoid those shooting foul penalties,
and their defensive game will be great.
Lake Erie currently leading in fouls five to three
as
Rokas Castillo goes up for his first free throw.
Makes the first one line change for Lake Erie
keeping fresh bodies on the field
for their full court press.
Castillo goes up for his second.
free throw. The score is currently Hillsdale 47, Lake Erie 53. And Castillo makes his second,
making it 54 for the storm. Garrett Boltey passing in for the chargers now. Looking for the open
man, looking to beat the full court press. Cole McWenny with the ball. His side of the court,

on Grayland Morris by Lake Erie.
Hillsdale's bench erupts and they get the foul.
It's going to be a personal foul on Amari Williams.
Hillsdale Ball.
That's the first non-hold foul.
I think we've seen all game from Lake Erie.
Here's Cole McWenny, beating the double team.
Cole McWinney going inside.
McWenny out to Morris.
Morris for a three.
He's got it.
Your score now. Hillsdale, 52. Lake Erie, 54. Hillsdale, making a comeback. Amari Williams puts up a three for Lake Erie, and he's got it.
Not going to go down without a fight.
And that's a timeout called by Hillsdale.
30-second timeout.
Patrick looks like they are making some changes.
for the better.
Hillsdale's trying to mount a comeback here with eight minutes to go in the second.
And right now, leading the charge is senior Cole McGuinney.
Right now, I mean, he is finding the holes in this Lake Erie defense.
And also, too, he is able to, on the offensive side, again, he's driving into the basket,
something that we said the Hillsla hasn't been doing.
He's driving into the basket you saw there.
He found a wide open Raylan Morris for a great shot.
And he's able to hit down.
is able to knock it down. Also two in the corner.
Cole McWinney on the scoring side, hitting a big time three.
You see him leading the charge as the Hillsdale Chargers
progressing this game, momentum starting to shift. Yes, Lake Erie is still
ahead, 52-57, but with eight minutes left to go, it is Lake Erie up against the wall
and the Chargers are taking on this game full speed ahead.
Great stuff from the Chargers. We'll see if they can capitalize on this
for momentum.
Someone who's really put a spark into this game is Raylam Morris,
that freshman coming off the bench.
He's been extremely dynamic,
both with the powerful dunk that ignited the sideline,
but also when the chargers are beating the full port press,
Morris tends to stand right at half court,
and he's the one that very often gets the escape pass
and also dishes to, it's usually stonebreaker.
running inside for a layup.
He's been a critical part of this offensive effort for the Chargers,
and he's currently on the court.
We'll see if he can continue being that guy.
Garibaldi, passing in now.
Passes to Morris.
Morris now working on his own end of the court.
Long pass to Janowski,
Janowski trying to beat the double team.
Back to Morris.
Good time I'm called by the Hillsdale because they were about to get a back court violation, not able to move.
Braylon Moore is being put into the corner.
I think that he's best served right in the middle because he is the one making the quickest, sharpest passes on this team.
And he's able to get it in the middle.
And he immediately looks up the court and finds a wide open guy.
That's where he's best serving this team right now, not putting him into the corner.
You need to put your better ball handle with Ashtonowski back there or Cole McWinney.
down there because the
break through the double
and even triple team right there
to find a wide open
Brail and Morris
within you have two Hillsdale
cutters to the basket
that's right there
that's how they're going to be able
to beat this full court
press by Lake Erie
because honestly
as aggressive as it is
it's a quite lazy
full court press
they're backside players
when the ball's on the right side
pushing up the right side
the left side back side
Lake Erie they're
not dropping and so
Hills was able to get their eyes up
They're able to find a wide open backside player,
and they also need to dominate that backside play.
And you can beat this.
It's honestly a very late, ladies and gentlemen,
it's a lazy defense.
It's very aggressive.
Don't get me wrong, but it's very lazy,
especially when it comes to the help side.
And I think Hillsdale is able to capitalize that,
which they have been in the last couple of possessions.
I totally agree, Patrick Morris has much better served working in the middle.
If he's now passing it in, he passes to Gertz.
Gertz bringing it up for the Chargers.
Gertz looking for an open man,
working against Amari Williams in single coverage.
Here comes a pick from Caleb Glazer.
Now out to Janowski.
Janowski at the top of the key, working to drive inside.
Janowski taking an elbow shot.
Long to, does not have it.
Rebound by Lake Erie.
Here comes Williams, bringing it up.
Williams looking for a pass.
Kai Bloom.
Williams back out to number two, Gavin Welch.
Williams working to drive inside
passing it to number four
Griffin Torei
Torey back out to Welch
Welch for three does not have it
great rebounds
by Kai Bloom
there is a foul
called
and it is going to go against
the Chargers
Amari Williams
will now pass it in
Williams with a successful
pass in
Williams looking to drive inside for a layup.
He does, but he does not have it.
Ball goes out of bounds.
It's going to be the Chargers' possession.
Out goes Paxton Gertz.
In goes Cole McWenny.
I really like this lineup the Hillsdale has in right now.
You've got quite a small lineup,
but you've got good ball handlers
and a lot of playmakers in right now.
McGuney passing it into Morris.
Now out to Janowski,
Janowski trying to beat the double team,
passing to Bolte.
Boltee with a long bass to Morris.
Morris driving inside at the free throw line,
puts up a shot, he's got it.
Your score now.
Hillsdale, 54, Lake Erie, 57.
Lake Erie trying to work inside.
Amari Williams, driving in.
puts up a layup, he's got it.
Williams drove down the baseline on that one.
Now it's the Chargers, again, trying to beat this full court defense, and they do.
Glazer has the ball in the paint, puts it up, great Eurostep from Glazer, and he's got the easy bucket.
Amari Williams trying to repeat.
Driving in again, does not have it.
Able to tip the ball around to one of his teammates for a rebound, now goes Kai Bloom for his turn.
driving in he puts up a layup he's got it blazer went up for the block did not have it williams and bloom
really really aggressive with the driving into the paint not afraid to go up with the ball not
afraid to push through the defense and here is yet another full line change for lake erie
keeping their team fresh
Morris to pass.
Morris and DeBolte.
Boltey back to Morris.
Morris driving.
Morris beating the team.
Morris to Glazer.
Glazer in the paint.
Again, putting up a shot, but he does not have it.
Can't afford to miss those type of easy buckets.
Lake Erie now with the ball in the paint, driving.
Stolen by Morris.
Morris driving alone.
Morris going up with it.
Morris puts up the layup, and it's an AN's one.
Morris with the tough bucket great showing there by the freshman now here's the guy that is turning the tide for Hillsdale
this guy is putting the team on his back late in the second half and just energizing with both defensive rebounds and then also two
difficult scoring as we just saw there from the freshman Morris drains his free throw
which means your score now is Hillsdale 59 Lake Erie 61 so not only with that bucket
does Morris put Hillsdale within two points of tying but he also with the foul being drawn he also has put Hillsdale into bonus so Hillsdale will now benefit from any further fouls done by Lake Erie Lake Erie now in the paint great difference from Boltey but it's not enough that's number 34 Geo Moore who put up the layup above Boltey looking for an open man
Bolte with the lob pass to Cole McWenny.
McWenny now beating the double team.
Back to Boltey.
Boltee driving in.
Boltee looking for an open man.
He dishes to McWenny.
McWenny's setting up the offense.
McWenny to Morris.
Morris driving in, passing out to Janowski.
Janowski with the ball in the wing.
Janowski looking inside to Glazer.
Glazer trying to work into the paint.
There's a double team, can't have it.
Instead, dishes to McWenny.
who puts up a three does not have it but hillsdale secures the offensive rebound and morris
finishes with a great layup that's that second chance buckets that we've been talking about and they
finally do get it your score now is hillsdale 61 lake erie 63 number five rocas castillo with
the ball for lake erie passing it out to 24 aiden filippini filippini looking to drive inside
doesn't have anything so he dishes instead to number 21 kalem ethridge
Etheridge back to Philippine.
Philippine driving in.
puts up a hook shot layup and he has it.
Lake Erie is managing to just stay alive right now with these difficult shots.
But it seems like right now Hillsdale is having these huge high-impact plays,
especially Braylon Moore scoring his 17 point of the night with that last layup.
McWenny beating the full court press.
He passes to Janowski, and Janowski will now set up Hillsdale's offense.
Janowski getting a pick from Glazer.
Back to Boltey.
Boltey looking for an interior pass doesn't have it.
Blazer now struggling to maintain control the ball and he loses it.
Lake Erie now has possession.
Your score, Hillsdale 61, Lake Erie 65.
The time on the clock is 3.30 and as we go into this timeout,

welcome back ladies and gentlemen you're listening to radio free hillsdale one of one point seven
fm coming out of the timeout your time on the clock is three minutes and 30 seconds hillsdale 61 lake erie
65 and lake erie will have the ball to start here goes williams bringing it up for lake erie
oh almost stolen by hillsdale cj erion got a hand in there but lake erie maintains control
kye bloom driving it again does not have anything rebound picked up on
Morris who was driving down the court now Janowski gets control slowing down the offense
now here's Cole McWenny at the top of the key passing to Janowski Janowski
Janowski back to McWenny McWenny dishes to Janowski driving inside looking for a tough
layup doesn't have it the ball slips through the hands of CJ Yerian who went up for the rebound
and Lake Erie will have the ball again here's Williams setting up the attack for Lake Erie
Williams to Bloom
back to williams williams has the ball at the top williams driving in kai bloom top of the key
kai bloom working the outside really trying to get motion on the wings here looking inside
almost stolen by hillsdale again almost stolen for a third time and that is going to be a shot
clock violation by lake erie excellent defensive showing by hillsdale they will now have possession
Several times now we have seen Hillsdale make Lake Erie use that entire 30 seconds.
It's been very effective defense late in the second half.
Morris now has the ball.
Morris, aggressive, driving in, dishing out to McWenny.
McWenny now at the top of the key.
He gives it to Eerie.
McWenny now with the give and go puts up the layup, and he's got it.
Your score now.
Hillsdale, 63.
Lake Erie, 65.
Hillsdale, looking for the comeback win.
Bloom with the pass inside
and the shot is missed
Hillsdale has the ball again
great defensive rebound by Cole McWenny
who now dishes to Bolte
Bolte driving in, boltie to Janowski
Janowski at the wing
back to McWenny at the top of the key
Hillsdale looking to slow down the game
CJ Yerian has the ball
giving it to Janowski
Janowski looking for Morris
he has him
Morris on the wing.
Morris to Bolte.
Boltey at the top of the key.
Boltey passes it, but it's stolen by Kai Bloom.
And Cole McWenny is forced to foul rather than let Kai Bloom go for a layup.
Time out.
Considering that you've got fouls to give right now, that was great.
Great idea by Cole McWenney, stopping that ball.
They're going to take you to the review to see if that's going to be a,
what would be a flagrant one foul
because of just like
he was going for the ball
and there's no one back there on defense
and so that would mean that
Lake Year would have one shot
and then they'd also have possession
which would not be ideal
but it's a lot better than giving up
a free layup turnover
so good defense of idea from
Cole McWenney. Absolutely at the time
Hillsdale had four fouls they now have five
great idea from McWenney
I don't think
it'll be upgraded to Flakert 1, seeing us how he was going for the ball.
But we will find out shortly.
Officials are still reviewing.
Time on the clock.
One minute and 26 seconds.
The score, Hillsdale 63.
They are in bonus.
Keep that in mind.
Lake Erie 65.
This is Cole McQuinnney's third foul also.
Just keep that in mind as well.
He only has two more to give.
He's one player on this team that absolutely cannot get into further foul trouble.
If he gets one more foul, they're going to have to start playing him much more conservatively,
which would honestly be very tragic for the Sillsdale team.
It depends on him greatly.
Especially with the playmaking that he's done, and you only got about a minute 30 left in the game.
So hopefully Cole can be a little bit more conservative on the fouls.
however I don't see a world in which you take him out of the game
he's only got three fouls he's still got two to give
and also two you still have two to give for hillsdale
with only a minute 30 left
it was a good idea to foul and I think that he'll be okay for the rest of the game
I completely agree official's still reviewing
they're done looking at the footage they're not conferring among themselves
we'll find out their official verdict in just a moment
You're taking quite some time, aren't they?
Yeah, I think with a call like this,
I'm really glad that they're taking the time
because this could be a huge momentum shift
if it's not upgraded up to that technical
Flagrant 1 file.
Oh, we'll hear it right now.
Okay, so it's just been resulted
in a common file, which is huge as well,
that Lake Erie.
he's going to take the ball on the sideline
rather than going to the free throw line as expected.
Great call for Hillsdale
and great job by Cole McWenny
for understanding
the fact that he had that foul to give up,
preventing an easy bucket by Kai Bloom
and instead giving Hillsdale a chance
to get a defensive stop right here,
especially late in the game with only 1 minute, 26 seconds,
left to go.
That was something they could not afford to do.
Hillsdale currently down by two points, 63 to 65.
If they get a stop here, they could have a big shift.
If when he's getting checked out by the technical team at the moment,
looks like he's having an equipment issue,
might need to re-tape part of his leg.
he's got a sleeve on it may have ripped
but back in the game
here's McWenny
as we're ready to start this action
one final recap one minute
26 seconds on the board Hillsdale 63
Lake Erie 65 and we are back in action
number 34 Geo Moore has the ball
for Lake Erie here's Kai Bloom passing it to Moore
Moore for the layup he's got it
Garrett Bolte passing in
Bolte to McQuennie McQuinnie
back to Bolte as they beat this double team.
The Gwini now has the ball.
On the win, he gives it to Morris.
Morris to Janowski.
Janowski has the ball now.
Janowski trying to drive inside.
Janowski at the elbow.
Looked for a shot, didn't take it instead.
Boltey has it.
Boltey and the paint.
Boltey puts up a two, and it's good.
Great shot by Garrett Boltee.
With just 50 seconds left to go in this game, Lake Urius, up by two points.
hillsdale looking to get a defensive stop rather than risk a foul amari williams passing it in there's geo more more trying to drive in more trying to get paint action he's working against c jerry and yaring gives him nothing here's kai bloom now trying to get inside more takes a three does not have it can hillsdale get a rebound they do not but instead they get in reach over foul from lake erie huge
for hillsdale who is in bonus they will now have a one in one shot this could tie the game
and the person they fouled was brailyn morris dynamic playmaker so far he has been the answer
for hillsdale he could potentially tie the game right now drained his first free throw
score is now with 25 seconds left to go in the game the scores hillsdale
66 Lake Erie 67 Braylon Morris taking a second and it is drained we have a
tides ball game with 20 seconds left to go in the game the score is 6-7-67 as
Williams is holding the ball wanting to drain the rest of the time out 10 seconds
on the clock Williams is fouled by Janowski
with 10 seconds on the clock.
Hillsdale with only six total fouls right now.
Lake Erie is not in bonus,
which means that this foul is going to be a throw-in foul
and not a shooting foul.
Huge for Hillsdale.
Can they get a stop?
Can they get another magical buzzer-beater?
like they did against Ohio Christian just a couple weeks ago.
We will see.
This game, Mark, is likely going.
The way Hillsdale has been playing their defense,
this is likely going to overtime,
which I think right now with the momentum,
Chargers being down in the almost the double digits,
or actually in the double digits,
they were, they brought it back just now 6-7-67.
I would not be shocked in the slightest
if this game went to overtime.
But we'll see.
Lake Erie will have one more chance.
Will Hillsdale have one more chance is the question.
But Lake Erie certainly will.
10 seconds left, they have the ball.
Hillsdale needs one stop to send the game to overtime.
Can they get in?
Or can Lake Erie work some magic?
Williams has the ball.
Eight seconds on the clock.
Williams.
Driving inside. Williams puts a layup, does not have it.
Yerian has it. Two seconds left.
McWenny putting up a half-court shot, and it is short.
This game is going to overtime.
Hillsdale with a great defensive stop there.
They now have a chance.
And we will see you very shortly in overtime.
You're listening to Radio 3 Hillsdale, 101.7 FM.
See you in a moment.
Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor.
Here's Jinnah Suhita.
On June 6, 1918, Gunnery Sergeant Charles Hoffman was serving near Chautau-Tierry, France.
His company had taken Hill 142 and was attempted to consolidate their position.
But immediately after taking the position, enemy forces began launching several hostile counterattacks against the line.
Sergeant Hoffman was attempting to organize a position on the north slope of the hill
when he saw 12 of the enemy armed with five.
light machine guns crawling towards his group.
Given the alarm, he rushed towards the hostile detachment,
bayoneted the two leaders and forced the others to flee,
abandoning their guns.
His quick action, initiative, and courage drove the enemy from a position
from which they could have swept the entire hill with machine gunfire
and forced the withdrawal of American troops.
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty,
gunnery Sergeant Charles Hoffman received both the Navy Medal of Honor
and the Army Medal of Honor.
This is Minute of Honor on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
You're listening to Chargers Basketball
Coming to you live on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
The time on the clock is five minutes
because it is overtime in the third period.
The score tied at 67.
Hillsdale has six fouls.
Lake Erie has eight.
And here we go for the tip-off.
CJ Yerian gets it.
Chargers will start with the ball
Connor McWenny bringing it in
Boltee putting up
a great shot from the inside
excellent pass from CJ Yerian to Boltee in the paint
wide open for layup he's got it
Lake Erie attempted a three
did not get it great pass by Yerian
Connor Cole McWenny
currently bringing it up Morris was wide open
down the sideline but they did
not see him. McWenny, under pressure by Williams. McWenny, passing at the Yerian.
Eerie, looking into Boltey again. Instead, decides to take it himself.
Yerian, working in the paint. There's Boltey. Bulte with a very tough shot. It's going to be a
shooting foul on number 34. Gio Moore. Bulte will get his two.
I mean like we said right before going into the overtime break
the momentum has shifted completely into Hillsdale's hand
and I think the only way that Lake Erie could have won this game
could have won this game was scoring right there
but they missed a wide open layup and Hillsdale I mean the crowd on their feet
especially with all the kids here I think it's a local community night here
at Hillsville basketball
and so you've got the kids going crazy.
Great, great vibes right now
in the whole entire stadium.
And this is what you love to see.
People are just excited.
And look at the Hillsdale bench.
I know, ladies and gentlemen,
you probably can't see them,
but right now smiles on their face,
energy on their face,
and then you look over Lake Erie.
I mean, they look to be super serious.
And honestly,
some of the guys look a little defeated,
which is something you love to see
for the Hillsdale College Chargers.
I mean, look at these guys.
They're happy, they're clapping.
They're getting into it.
You're up 69.
67, you just had a huge comeback.
I mean, I think the lead, I mean, it was the last lead was, the largest lead was 11 points that Lake Erie had.
That's a double digit, and we brought the game back, and Garrett Bolte is about to hit his shots.
Time on the clock, four minute, 16 seconds.
Hillsdale, 69, Lake Erie, 67.
Bolte will take his shots now.
Bulte makes his first.
Hillsdale now up by three.
Bulte first, second free throw.
And he's got it.
Lake Erie brings it up now.
It's Williams for Lake Erie.
Passing it down to Gio Moore.
Now to Bloom.
Bloom, trying to drive inside.
I don't think I agree with that call
it's going to be a flop it's going to be a flop called against braylon Morris
but I got to agree Patrick I think that
I think he was more shoved to the ground by Kai Bloom
yeah Kai Bloom extended his left forearm into Brailand Morris
and so they called that blocking call on Brailin but I think
that should have been an offensive charge charging call honestly right there
but Lake Erie able to get the bailout and they're getting their free throws
Blum makes his first, cutting the lead to three yet again.
Both teams are right now in the bonus,
so that call was not a shooting call,
but rather it was a one-on-one.
Lake Erie hits the first one.
Blum taking his second shot now.
A lot of chirping right now, as we see there.
Bloom seems to be chirping a lot,
and Colmigwinnie giving it right back.
Love to see that.
Love to see a little chirping going on.
It's good for basketball.
You'll love to see it.
Garrett Boltey, now throwing it in for Hillsdale.
Bloom made his second, meaning the score is now 71 Hillsdale, 69 Lake Erie.
Boltee passing it around, beating that full court press.
McWenney has the ball now.
Stuck on the wrong side of the court, but he gets it to Bolte just in time.
Bolty now, trying to work up at the top of the keep, giving it back to McWenney.
Cole McWinney, bringing it up for the chargers.
He's facing single coverage.
Back to Boltey, again.
Again. Now out to Janouski. Morris taking a three. He's got it. Morris extends Hillsdale's lead.
And that's his 22nd point of the night. Grayland Morris, absolutely electric to see right now.
Hillsdale, stifling Lake Erie's offensive attack right now. Lake Erie trying to work inside.
And they do get it, a phenomenal pass to Kai Bloom, who puts up a few.
very difficult shot and gets a layup.
Bloom now guarding Bolte, who's throwing it in.
Your right, Patrick.
Kai is absolutely chirping up Boltey at the moment.
Trying to get in his head.
The score is 71 Hillsdale.
Excuse me.
The score is Hillsdale, 74, Lake Erie, 71.
Morris has the ball now.
Passing you back to Boltey.
Bollie back to Morris.
Morris beating the double team
Gives it to Boltey
Goldie to Janowski
Janowski has the ball
Top of the key
Cole McWenny now
at half court
McWenny setting up Hillsdale's office
passing it to Eerie
Morris wide open in the corner
puts up a three and he's got it
Hillsdale
77 Lake Erie is 71
and the crowd is going wild
things are being thrown in the arena
or their t-shirts
Lake Erie trying to respond, putting up a shot.
I cannot believe that wasn't in trouble.
I mean, Braylon Morris absolutely on fire.
I mean, you went fire with Fire Hillsdale,
and now Braylon Morris is on fire with his 25th point of the game.
So exciting.
Love to see this.
I mean, wow.
We talked about it how this young dynamic team,
we only have one returning senior.
Everyone else is underclassmen.
Junior's and younger, and guess who's stepping up, the freshman Braylon Morris, getting his 25th point.
It all started with that electric dunk that we saw, and now look at that.
I think he's three for three now since that dunk.
Absolutely electric.
Love to see.
He's three for three from Beyond the Art, putting up his 25th point of the night.
Lake Erie made a mid-range two, and then immediately called a timeout, which means your current time on the clock.
It's two minutes and 33 seconds.
The score is Hillsdale 77, Lake Erie, 73.
Can Hillsdale?
Can the Chargers maintain their lead?
And win this game, we're about to find out.
Come out of the timeout.
Chargers are absolutely playing their heart out right now.
Phenomenal, phenomenal game.
Yeah.
Only with 233 left in the first overtime.
The Hillsville seems to be really cool, calm, and collected,
but they're playing with a lot of intensity.
They really want this,
and it looks like this game is going to be in the favor of Hillsville College.
We're going to find out soon enough.
Here's Janowski, bringing it up against the full court press.
Lake Erie has played full court the entire game,
really looking for steals, playing very aggressive at the moment.
Janowski working the top of the key
Here's Paul McWenny
Back to Janowski, Janowski driving inside
Looking for a layup
Tough coverage
Cannot get anything going
Guy Bloom
Gets the ball
But it's stolen by Braylin Morris
Incredible steel
Morris then saves it
From going out of bounds
allowing Hillsdale to now have possession
yet again
Here's Garrett Bolte
He's holding on to the ball on the wing right now
now passing it to Janowski.
10 seconds left on the shot clock.
Janowski working against Gio Moore.
Janowski driving inside, looking for elbow shot.
Passing it out to Boltey.
Bultie, deep two does not have it.
But we get an offensive rebound by Hillsdale,
which is immediately stolen.
Lake Erie ball.
Gio Moore, taking a three for Lake Erie.
Bounces off the rim.
He does not get it.
Cole McWenney now, beating the press.
CJ Erion, wide open for Hillsdale.
They're holding onto the ball.
They don't want to score too quickly.
They want to burn time.
Here's Garrett Boltee, facing pressure.
Boltey picks up his dribble, passing it out.
Cole McWenney.
McWenny now holding onto the ball.
Eight seconds left on the shot clock.
McWenny, needing to make a move.
McWenny, driving inside, putting up a two.
He's got it.
Timeout called 56 seconds left on the clock.
Your score, Hillsdale, 79, Lake Erie, 73.
You're listening to Chargers basketball on 101.7 FM Radio Free Hillsdale.
We'll see you in just a minute after this break.
Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time.
I'm Lauren Smith, and I'm back with another weird history of punctuation marks.
It's time for the at symbol.
Nobody has any idea where this thing came from.
It's at least 800 years old and at the time of its first use had nothing to do with Instagram handles or email addresses.
The earliest known text containing this symbol used it to replace a capital A.
In various languages, it was used to refer to units of weight or volume or a short form of on the day of,
until recently, it probably didn't have much to do with the word at.
In the 1970s, a computer engineer set up an email system using the at sign and the rest
is history. He later joked that he probably single-handedly saved the at sign from going the way of
the scent sign on computer keyboards. That's your Grammar Minute. Visit the Grammar Minute.com
for more tips and tricks. Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. You're listening live to Chargers
basketball on Radio 3 Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Time on the clock, 58 seconds. The score, Hillsdale,
79 Lake Erie, 73.
Ladies and gentlemen, I want to say
Braylon Morris coming into today's game
only at 27 points on the season.
Tonight, leading the charges, he's 25 points.
He is by far the leading score
and led this team back in overtime.
Number two, Gavin Welch for Lake Erie
just drained a three, cutting Hillsdale's lead to three.
Morris then loses the ball
as he attempts to break the full court press.
Lake Erie now has the ball again with 47 seconds left to go.
Could be disaster for the Chargers.
They need to stop right now.
Here's Williams for Lake Erie.
Williams working against Boltey, trying to get inside, trying to get the pain.
Giving it to Bloom, tries to do the same thing.
There's Welch, passing it back out to Williams.
Williams, looking for a three.
Instead, drives inside.
and puts up a layup
Cole McWenny
now working against the full court press
Chargers still leading by one point
they have enough time to fully burn out the clock
Morris gets fouled
that is going to both
give him a one and one
and put the chargers into double bonus
I mean not
not the guy you want to follow right now.
I mean, he's got the hand.
Excuse me.
Putting the chargers into double bonus, this gives Braylon Morris two shots.
I mean, Braylon Morris, with that shot, it's four for four from the free throw line.
26 points.
And also, too, if he hits this shot, he will score in one game.
The amount of points he's had all season long.
I mean, what an oppressive showing from the young guy who hasn't had, arguably not the most confidence in order to take him shots.
Not the confidence that we've seen tonight.
I mean, he's taking matters into his own hands,
and he's coming up with very, very, very smart shots.
I mean, he is shooting nine from, he's shooting nine of ten from the field.
And he shot four from five from three.
I mean, this guy is just playing so well.
He's got two steals.
He has got two turnovers, an assist,
and also two, he's got three rebounds.
Coming up big on the defensive side with two.
Two of those of his three rebounds being defensively.
He has been an absolute showstopper for the Chargers tonight.
And really almost single-handedly is the reason they are back in this game.
Right, because Ashton and Cole, I mean, they kept the team in here
and they were dominating on the boards and that they were the ones really doing a great job
scoring.
But who has to come down to?
I mean, Garibolti also too, keeping Hills down here.
So scoring is 12 point in the 9th.
But it was all Ashton, getting his 18 points.
And then out of nowhere, Raylan Morris, really late in the second half of this game.
And now overtime, looking to score his 27th point with this free throw that he's lined up for.
Is this a one-off or is this his breakout game?
We will find out later as he takes his second free throw.
Draining it, putting the chargers up, 81 to 78.
They are now leading by three yet again.
Lake Erie has the ball with 15 seconds left to go.
Looking to make something happen.
to Mari Williams.
Williams puts up a three.
He's got it.
The game is tied.
Nine seconds on the clock.
Another timeout will be called.
What an exciting play right there.
Goodness.
So we have Chargers and Lake Erie Storm going bar for bars, shot for shot.
We have another tied game, 81, with nine seconds left to go,
and overtime.
Incredible.
Yeah, I mean, Amari Williams hitting that shot, 20th point of the night,
surpassing Kai Bloom, who has been the leading score for the night.
But Amari Williams, with an impressive quick elbow three shot,
was able to get the shot to roll in, tying up the game with nine seconds left to go.
But I want to bring back, guys, Braylon Morris tonight, standout player,
regardless of who wins or loses.
Raylon Morris leading the charge for the chargers.
They were able to overcome this 11-point deficit with his dunk.
And then he proceeds to shoot three for three.
He's now shooting 90% tonight.
He's 9 for 10 on the shot.
Incredible.
He is 100% from the free throw line.
This is the guy right now that Lake Year, you cannot, if I were with them,
you cannot have the ball in his hands.
Here we go.
Garrett Boltey, passing it into McWenney.
six seconds left
and as McWenny gets into Chargers territory
they will call another timeout
with the chance to set up a play
from the sideline
30 second timeout
here we go
all or nothing right now
this is the Chargers chance
to put a seal on this game
with yet another game winning
last second shot
who will it be
Who's going to be the one?
Is it going to be the hot hand in the freshman?
Is it going to be the returning starter in Ashton Janowski?
Will it be the big man down below in Yerian?
What is the plan?
We're about to find out.
Time on the clock.
5.7 seconds.
Billsdale, 81.
Lake Erie, 81.
You got a lot of time to come up with a good offensive scheme right here.
The best thing that Hillslow can do right now is getting the ball into your playmaker,
Cole McWenny, which he's the one taking the ball out.
He's going to find the open pass, and this is the guy right here that is going to find the open man.
And right now it looks like they're scoring on Braylon Morris, who's got the hot hand.
Here it goes.
Back out to McWenny.
McWenny has the ball driving inside, putting up a shot from the elbow, and it falls short.
there will be another
overtime
Gary and tried to go up for the rebound
but was knocked down
due to the box out
we are going to second
overtime ladies gentlemen
all things considered
I'm not mad about that shot
no I'm really not
the Lake Erie blew up that play
You knew the ball was going to Braylon Morris.
I mean, that guy, he cannot miss.
No, he cannot miss.
We saw the play set up.
We saw Braylon Morris try to get around,
but Lake Erie did a great job of working through two screens that they set.
And they were forced to pass it out to Bolte,
who then immediately passed it back to McWenny,
who driveled in a little, took a contested elbow shot,
not a great opportunity for the Chargers.
Could not get his feet set.
Ball ended up falling short.
But it was still a good shot, nevertheless.
And also to CJ Yerian, something a little scary is that when he was going to try for a putback,
had an awkward fall at the end.
He seems to be okay right now in the huddle.
It was still something you don't like to see, especially going into another five minute overtime.
Double overtime, ladies and gentlemen, this is very exciting.
At the beginning of the game, we said that this was going to be an exciting game.
I had no idea we were going to be in for such a treat.
and it's really been a pleasure
and now that we're going off
in the tip-off, CJ Yerian lined up
again, he's won both
tip-offs? He has, he has.
But in the first we had that turnover
in which they had the back court violation.
He's lined up against Gio Moore now.
Erion wins it again.
Yeah, three for three on the night.
Wish that was a statistic you could
have. That's right.
And now you know
who it is. Cole McWenney, leading the charge
for the chargers, gives it to Janowski.
McWinney taking a three. He's got it. Drained it. Chargers up by three. Amari Williams for Lake Erie.
Williams passing it to Moore. Moore trying to drive inside. Excellent defense from Eerian. Back out to Bloom. Bloom back to Moore. More on the post. Moore looking for a shot. Doesn't have it. Passing it out to Williams. 10 seconds left in the shot clock. Williams trying to drive down the baseline. Doesn't have it. Passing to Moore for a three. It's walking for.
wide left air ball more has not been very productive from range this evening so it will be
chargers ball yet again hillsill Chargers they've been doing this all night playing fantastic
defense so that the storm leggerie they've got they've just got to chuck up a shot at this point
Janowski has the ball now having beaten the full court press back to McWenny McWenny facing pressure from
Williams. Back to Janowski.
Janowski on the wing. Looking for an interior
pass doesn't have it. Back to
McQuennie. McWenny on the opposite wing.
McWenny receiving a pick
from Yerian. Yerian now has
the ball on the inside. Back to McWenny for another
three and he misses. But Yerian
gets the offensive rebound. Yarian back to
Janowski. Janowski driving inside.
Takes a mid-range. Doesn't have it.
Yarian with another rebound and Yerian
gets the putback for the Chargers.
Something we haven't seen at all tonight
is a second, but isn't even a third
Shan shot that CJ Yaron dominating the boards right there.
But an unfortunate fall right now as we see with Braylon Morris getting a foul call.
It looks like he overcommitted on the defensive side.
Braylon Morris, absolutely, yeah, it seems like he may have tripped or something, but fell into Kai Bloom there.
So that's going to be a foul called against the Chargers.
Both teams are now in bonus.
Hillsdale's in double bonus.
So this is going to be a one-in-one for Bloom, unless.
the officials are currently conferring
they may upgrade this to a flagrant
we'll see
but excellent excellent job by
Yerian there using that height advantage
getting those rebounds
that's something that Hillsdale has desperately
needed in this game
Yerian's getting it done
yeah
8681 right now
if on the Chargers
I'm pretty happy with what I've been seeing.
And also, too, I mean, Cole McQuinnies starting to feel, too.
He is now 13 points.
Braylon Morris, Ashtonowski, and Cole McQuinnie, leading the scoring for the Chargers.
Cole McQuinnie, like I said, 13th point of the night.
Ashtonowski, still at 18.
He's been a little quiet offensively, scoring-wise.
But, man, he has stepped up big time as a playmaker because he has been the one driving in,
having the team collapse on him
and then he's finding a wide open
Cole McQuinnie for three or Braylon Morris
it's been cut in also too
again Braylon Morris are 27 points leading
tonight if we were allowed to award
anyone impact player or MVP
it's by far Brailin Morris
early on you could have said it was a Kai Bloom
very exciting for the Lake Erie
Ashti Janowski too but Braylin
Morris I mean the last 11 minutes
of the second half and now both
over times super exciting to
Hillsdale currently leading by five.
Kai Bloom taking his first of two,
trying to cut that down. And he misses.
Hillsdale gets the rebound.
Cole McWenny has the ball now. In a trap,
facing pressure. Forced to
call a timeout.
Great rebound by the Chargers.
I think that timeout call is going to come back to hurt them.
You kind of put yourself in a situation where you lose
a timeout. You're still
in the back court. You're going to be put into the corner
on the baseline for passing the ball.
now granted you get the time to reset for the back court violation so you still will have your
8 to 10 seconds to cross over the midline in order to get full possession but you had to sacrifice
the timeout again because you have cole McWenny he falls into the trap and he's put into that
back corner so now he has two guys on him but he's got four defenders because he's got the baseline
and the sideline and he's not able to do anything especially with how tall lake here he is
It's not like Cole can make a pass over the top.
He's not a short guy.
Well, you've got two guys that are three, four inches taller than him
with their arms spread out
and you're back against the wall.
You have to sacrifice the time out there.
But I think that will come to bite the Chargers coming up soon.
Yeah, I agree.
Tough to lose timeouts, especially with three minutes
and 28 seconds left in this game
in this second overtime.
Really can't be wasting timeouts like that.
But we'll see.
We will see.
Timeout is now over.
Teams are getting back onto the field.
Your time, like I just said,
three minutes, 28 seconds on the clock.
Hillsdale is leading by five points, 86 to 81.
Hillsdale has eight fouls.
Lake Erie has 10.
And it's going to be Chargers ball from the baseline.
Cole McWenny to pass it in.
McWenny to Boltey.
Bolte trying to escape the corner
Boltey under lots of pressure
dumps to McWenny
McWenny gets it to
Gertz back in the game
and that is going to be
is that a backcourt violation
I'm not sure
it appears to be some sort of
oh they called a travel call
oh okay so it's going to be
Lake Erie ball.
Chargers turn it over.
Critical mistake in a time like this.
Cannot be doing that?
CJ Yari, an excellent defense.
He loses the ball on the rebound.
The biggest shift in Hillsdale tonight
has been the fact that they're stopping.
Lake Erie is still getting the second and third-chain shots,
but they're not capitalizing on them.
And the Chargers are.
They're able to get those second and third chances for shots.
But then also, too, they're playing great defense.
They're unable to come up with a rebound here as Lake Erie is passing the ball in now.
Gio Moore working against Yerian now.
Passes to Williams.
Williams trying to drive inside.
Interior pass to Moore, who completely loses the ball.
It's going to be Chargers ball as Yerian's defense forces a turnover.
Chargers ball.
Great defense there.
Hillsdale has really locked down.
their defensive efforts here late in this game.
They're doing an excellent job now they just have to escape.
And a reaching foul called on number 11 for Lake Erie.
I think they're in the double bonus, so.
They are.
Garrett's just going to get two free free throws.
Hillsdale is in double bonus.
Garrett Bolte will have two free throws.
Devastating reaching call for Lake Erie.
This could potentially put the chargers up by seven.
Yeah, and Garrett tonight, two for two from the line.
Let's see if you can replicate that success right here.
Boltey makes his first.
Chargers this season have been very good from the free throw line.
Having similar success here tonight.
Bolty for the second.
And he drains it.
Chargers, 88, Lake Erie Storm, 81.
Two minutes, 45 seconds.
and slept to go in this game and here go the storm lake erie trying to drive in really aggressive
trying to get down into the basket for those layup shots williams puts up a shot and it is blocked
big time by c j yarion and then another foul on amari williams that is his fourth foul of the
night he is a excuse me that is his fifth and with that oh that that
Amari Williams, number 11 for Lake Erie, has fouled out of this game.
Oh, man, your leading score of the night just fouled out off a really, really dumb decision.
I mean, there's no reason for him.
No, bad reach, bad reach by him.
Completely unnecessary.
And not only has he just felled out of this game, but Fax and Gertz has just made his first of two three throws,
putting Hillsdale up eight points now with two minutes, 30 seconds left to go.
He got the lucky bounce on that one, hitting the back iron, bouncing up in the air and falling in.
Nothing but that.
Paxton Gertz has made his second, but there is some argument about a potential lane violation.
No fouls called.
Number two, Gavin Welch for Lake Erie, put a shot, missed it.
And look at that.
area and getting his 10th rebound of the night oh my goodness he is absolutely dominating the board
something that we were really worried early on but man has he stepped up this last two overtimes
and he just has so much regression and he's going up and then he's saying that is my ball
he's commanding the boards right now which is what you need in this overtime win that's a foul
on number 15 Kai bloom his second of the night that's the worst guy to file right there
Cole McWenny's 100% this season from free trials.
Absolutely.
Cole McWenny making his first of two.
The Chargers now leading by 10 with 2 minutes, 19 seconds left to go in this game.
McWenny for a second.
Oh, and he missed his first free throw this season.
Chargers very nearly got a rebound, but could not capitalize.
Gia Moore out on the three-point line, puts one up, missed.
Rebound by Kai Moore.
Who missed again.
Garrett Bolte has the ball now.
Passing it out to Braylum Morris.
Morris in a trap situation.
Trying to find something.
He finds Paxton Gertz.
Gertz looking down to McWenny.
McWenny down to Yerian.
Yerian back out to Morris.
Charges trying to hold the ball.
Bring some time.
Yeah, I like what Hillso's doing right now, just holding the ball.
CJ could have easily gotten to score.
But right now, he's just like, no, I'm going to push it out.
I'll call McWenny with the ball in hand.
McWenny loses the ball.
It's on the floor.
That's going to be foul called against Hillsdale.
Lake Erie will have the ball.
Crowd is booing at the moment.
Time on the clock.
One minute, 34 seconds.
Hillsdale, 91.
Lake Erie, 81.
That is Cole McWenney's fourth foul, it seems, of the night.
Yeah, and it looks like they're going to keep Cole McGuney in this game.
I think it's a good idea.
He's really calmed down the defense aggression.
He's been a really smart defense.
But that one right there, I'm unsure that's even a foul in the first place.
Both guys are on the ground, wrestling for the ball.
But you're up 91 to 81.
You're in a good spot with a minute 30 left to go in second overtime.
Number 10, Trace Biscoe just missed his first free throw.
They are not in double bonus, which means that Hillsdale will still have this ball.
And it looks like number four for Lake Erie was able to steal the ball.
And the process of stealing the ball stepped out of bounds.
Braylon Morris is taking it out in the front court on our side, up on the sideline.
Hillsdale has the ball again.
Morris has McWenny deep in the back court.
McWenny bringing it up.
Single pressure from Biscoe.
McWenny now back to Morris.
Morris getting a pick.
Now McWenny on the opposite wing.
McWinney getting a pick from the area.
Looking to create separation.
Bolte has the ball.
Four seconds left from the shot clock.
Bolte, puts up a three, and he's got it.
Hillsdale, 94, Lake Erie, 81, with one minute to go in the game.
The Chargers are up by 13 points.
Kai Bloom puts up a three, he drains it.
And it's going to be a timeout called by Lake Erie.
Down 10 points with 51 seconds to go.
It's hard to say that the...
It's hard not to say that the Chargers are going to run away with this.
But we've seen crazier
I mean we've witnessed crazy
I think the last time we called this game
It was also almost a double digit
Less than a minute have to go
And the Chargers came back
And Ashtonowski hit a game winner
Against Ohio Christian
That's absolutely right
But it's hard to say
Because the Chargers
I mean
They're playing so well
I mean this is
Some of the best basketball
I've personally seen them play
In my four years here at Hillsdale
Oh yeah
They have completely hit their stride in this game
between
McWenny,
Bulte, and Morris.
Those three have been super
dynamic with the scoring game.
C.J. Yerrian is really
coming into his own in the paint,
getting those rebounds,
dishing it back out to the shooters.
Janowski's currently on the bench.
Will they sub him in
for Cole McWenney
to save him from foul trouble?
Not at the moment it seems.
Yeah, CJ Yerian with his 11th rebound in the game.
While he hasn't been putting up points, he's really saved the team from Lake Erie's second or third chance shots.
And it looks like they're going to keep Colemanie in the game.
Ashtonowski still finishing off tonight.
He's got 18 points.
He's got three rebounds to go along with his points tonight.
Paxton Gertz with the ball.
Facing a lot of pressure.
He's fouled by number 24, Aiden Filipini.
Gertz will have two free throws.
Yeah, Ashton's still having a good night tonight.
Like I said, he's got 18 points, three rebounds.
To go along with all this, he's got five assists.
He's got three steals in the night.
That's what you like to see from your senior captain.
But we look like we've got...
Guy Bloom, still chirping.
Gertz makes his first.
You gotta love it, though.
He's got heart.
I mean, he's had a really great.
game tonight. I mean, Khy Bloom with 22
points, but
you got to learn
to cut your losses and
stop chirping.
Max and Gertz
missed his second free throw.
Scores now Hillsdale, 95.
Lake Erie
84.
brought the ball down, lost control,
but it looks like it's going to go their way.
They are now passing it in.
Kai Bloom taking a three.
He misses.
Excellent rebound by Braylon Morris.
Facing lots of pressure.
He breaks free.
Morris.
And being tripledeemed at the moment.
That's another foul by number 24.
Adrian Philippini.
His fourth of the night.
Yeah, if Kai Bloom, especially on this last possession,
did a lot more scoring than he needed talking.
I think this would be a lot different game for Lake Erie.
Raylon Morris misses his first free throw of the night.
He will now have his second.
A little bit of strategy for the Chargers.
Coach talking to them from the sideline.
Morris makes a second.
putting the Chargers up by 12.
Kai Bloom driving inside.
That's going to be a foul called against Paxton Gertz.
Number four for the Chargers.
Tension's starting to rise.
Erie in talking to Gertz, telling him to calm down.
Yeah, I'm not upset with Gertz being there.
I mean, at this point, I mean, you're playing football right there
where you're dropping your shoulder like that.
And I think that's got to be offensive.
The refs haven't been calling that all game.
But Lake Erie, I mean, man, they look like a bunch of runs.
running backs out here.
Yeah, absolutely.
I'm going to agree with you there.
They've been very aggressive.
That's kind of been the name of the game for Lake Erie Storm,
really trying to attack with veracity and just, I mean,
just that aggression that they've shown all game.
But here we go.
Kai Bloom has made his first two free throws.
And Yerian with a deep bomb to Paxton Gertz.
Gertz now has the ball on Hillsdale's side of the court.
as they are going to try to run down the clock.
And ladies and gentlemen, I think that'll do it for tonight's game.
You've got 10 seconds left to go, and Paxie Gertz has got the ball.
And Lake Erie's not falling.
And the crowd is on their feet.
This is great to see.
Yeah, and the refs.
That is the game, ladies and gentlemen.
No time remains on the clock.
Final score. Hillsdale, 96, Lake Erie, 86. The Chargers win by 10 at home, breaking their losing streak.
