Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Rita Freelstow. 101.7 FM Charger basketball. Don Tibbitt's lights are going off, showing on the big screen the Chargers who, like we said, kind of miraculous they have this home court, but the local fans are taking advantage of it. Yeah, 100%. You know, you kind of expect a little bit of a downturn in terms of attendance, but no. Local crowd came out.
Starting point is 00:00:25 You just got to love GMAC tournament basketball, and I think that's what everyone's seeing. Yeah, and it does kind of stink. that the students are pretty much on their way out to spring break, which did start today after classes. Unfortunately, sure we would have had a great showing today and tomorrow if the charges end winning where they'll play at 1 p.m. for the GMAC championship. And if they win that game, they get an auto bid into the D2 playoffs, which would be huge. Because if they don't win this tournament, they're not in.
Starting point is 00:00:48 They've had their ups and downs in the season, and this is, you have to win out. Yeah, 100%. That little mid-season hiccup they had, you know, a few losses in a row. It's something that's tough for a team to overcome, but it's just what the charges were able to do. I mean, they came out and they just started winning. When you get a win against Kentucky Wesleyan, when you get a win against teams like Ash and high scoring teams, I mean, it just shows that you're on fire and all the motivation is on your side. Yeah, and it's good to see, too. It looks like a fair amount of Malone fans made the three-hour, 30-minute trek up from Canne, Ohio. So
Starting point is 00:01:18 it should be an exciting one. Should be a packed arena. Thomas Moore staying here because they have a chance to win a GMAC title tomorrow. So they'll be scouting whoever wins this game. And yeah, Should be a fun one because if they do end up playing the Chargers, we saw that same matchup here just a weekend to go. Yeah, 100%. And Chargers were able to get an advantage on that one, and you know they're going to be taking notes watching this game, trying to find out what advantage they can exploit throughout every minute of this game.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Yeah, the Chargers did a great job last time they played Thomas Moore, who came back from a huge deficit in that game. And the thing to note about Thomas Moore is only their second year in the G-MAC, making it to this tournament final, as well as a lot of redshirt freshman, freshman and sophomores for that team. Young team just joined the Division 2 hoops scene. So definitely hats off to them for making it this far. Yeah, 100%.
Starting point is 00:02:09 And when you win a game in a fashion like you just did, one point victory, last second bucket, and then being able to hold Cedarville still on the two-second lob attempt, I mean, that's got to bring some fire into your team and it's going to make it tough whoever wins this game to play against them on Saturday. Yeah, and it's really fun because you, You know March Madness, you know D1 basketball, you know the hype that it brings, but it's great to see the magic of March coming here to Don Tibbetton. Hoping for a great game here between the Chargers as we are just getting an introduction into the Chargers starting lineup.
Starting point is 00:02:40 The starting lineup tonight for Malone is Ryan Bartley, as we mentioned, 6-7 forward. Trey Bumgardner, excuse me, the 6-1 graduate senior guard. Number five, Caleb Conrad Center Forward, 6-7, Redshirt Jr., number 13 as we mentioned at the top of the hour simian blair or simon blair 510 uh graduate senior and then number 15 tie league walker another graduate senior so running through this lineup they don't have anyone that's not either a red the lowest grade they have is a red shirt junior which is a senior he's been here for four years so it's very interesting i mean they do have a couple transfers but guys that have been playing a lot of basketball and that pairs well with the matchup with the chargers
Starting point is 00:03:24 we have a lot of guys who have been near four or five years that start for them. Yeah, exactly. And like we talked about at the top of the hour, Malone's weak bench could play a factor in this game. When you have all these guys with a lot of experience starting and playing most of your game, it ends up kind of hurting you when you try and bring in some guys for a fresh look. Meanwhile, the Chargers, they always get their guys in fresh feet. And, you know, it could play in for them to play aggressive and try and get some lucky steals and stuff like that. Tire out this Malone starting five.
Starting point is 00:03:51 Yeah, and even the two guys that have played every game off the bench. Number 0, Frasier, La Rock, 6-7, as we mentioned, another senior from Canada, Ottawa. And then they also have number 30, Jack Burns, who comes off the bench every once in a while, a junior. So, like we said, a lot of experience for this Malone team, and that could have bode well for them in their matchup, 10-point victory over Kentucky Wesleyan. But we can do all the talking we can, and we're about to see what happens here on the court. An exciting one. Tip is just about to be underway.
Starting point is 00:04:19 Big Rick for the Chargers versus number one, Ryan Bartley. Just excited to see these teams play. I mean, you get some nice March basketball. You just got to be happy. Chargers looking to continue their streak and alone looking to keep pulling off their Cinderella story. And it's tough to be to team three times. Chargers did beat them twice in the regular season, but it's postseason basketball. They're coming up a huge win.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Anything can happen in March. We're about to see what happens here. We are just about underway. Big Rick versus Bartley. Ball is in the air and off to Malone. Their point guard, as we mentioned. Simon Blair taking handle top of the key. Left wing, bum Gardner drives middle on Janowski.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Right wing Blair. Down low, finds Bartley working on Ruter. 18 on the shot clock, driving middle. Hook shot tipped away by Router stolen. Back out Bartley. Puts up the fading mid-range, won't go. Rebound cleared away by Woodhams. Clear defense, strong already by the charges,
Starting point is 00:05:15 getting a tip and then able to take advantage. Get the ball back. Janowski, top of the key, finds Radischovich on the right wing. Ruter swings it over to Janowski on the left wing. All moving around. Big Rick on the block size advantage down low they reach hook shot up and over won't go rebound cleared away by Conrad just missed it they might be able to abuse that a little bit looks like Big Rick's strength might be able to help posterize his man zero zero here with 1913 to play in this first half left wing Blair guarded by Woodhams screen comes from Conrad Blair drivels middle kicks it out to the corner back outside to Bartley he drives middle tough left-hand layup won't go blocked away by big Rick gets the rebound back to Janowski. Yep, there's the aggressive defense already showing, just trying to wear out this Malone offense. Janowski in transition gets the screen from Big Rick, right wing Bison.
Starting point is 00:06:04 19 on the shot clock drives middle. Working tough on Bumgarner. Top of the key, Janowski guarded by Blair, left wing, Big Rick, 10 on the shot clock now. He's going work in the paint. Ball stripped. Still has it. Looks like a tie-up. Possession arrow will go to the Chargers. Zero-zero game here with 1833 to play early. Wow, both teams playing tight defensive. see the Chargers feeding Big Rick again. Looks like they're going to try and find him in the post.
Starting point is 00:06:28 See if he can get something working with his strength down there. And as we mentioned, both these teams fighting for their lives. The winner of this gets to advance to a championship with a chance to keep their season on. Inbound goes to Beeson. Corner three ball, tough one will go. Loken Beeson with a fading three off the baseline out of bounds. And the scoring is opened up with the Chargers. Three, nothing.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Only took two minutes, but now we're finally there to get some score out of the board. Blair, top of the key. Once again, guarded by Woodhams. finds Bum Gardner high screen from Conrad. Bumgarner with the left driving. Tipped away by Wudham's back out to Blair. High hand from Wottom's drives to the middle. Tough take by Blair, floating. Layup, good.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Beautiful work by Blair there, and that kind of shows why he's their guy, able to make tough shots against taller players. Three to two, 18 to play in this first half. Chargers back the other way. Wormtum's on the left wing. Ridesvich on the right wing swings it to him. Rishvish, scanning, guarded closely by Conrad, back up top to Wadm's 60 on the shot clock drives.
Starting point is 00:07:22 tough move push off floater good turn around jump shot by woodham's is good five to two hillsdale attacking the paint early it looks like that's what they might have seen as a weakness from alone chargers up five to two 1730 to play now left wing bumgarner finds conrad top of the key coming off the screen player tough in the midrange can't find anything dribbles out to the left corner back up top to bumgarner 13 on the shot clock Blair wants to take the three dozen great pocket pass the conrad floater won't go Rebound cleared away by Router. There's that passing by Blair.
Starting point is 00:07:56 He's able to find an open teabot with a nice bounce pass. Left wing, Beeson again. Down low, Ruter on the block, guarded closely by Walker. Drives and a foul there. Looks like they were tied up, and Ruder kind of looked to draw the foul there. Yeah, 100%. But looking early, this Malone defense is going to stand strong. Forcing tough shots,
Starting point is 00:08:15 Chargers is able to make it so far with a fading three and then a bag fading little mid-range. Their tough defense could be some of the charges are going to have to try and play through the entire game. CJ Yerian checking in early for Big Rick. They sub in a lot. Five to two here, 17 to play. Baseline out of bounds, Janowski with the honors.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Fines Beeson on the left wing, guarded closely by Baumgartner. Triple handoff to Janowski on that left wing high screen from Janowski. He denies it. Kicks it out to Yerian. He'll take the three ball. CJ Yerian won't go. Rebound cleared away there by Walker. Yeah, tough defense again.
Starting point is 00:08:47 I mean, when you force CJ Yerian to shoot a ball, although he can make some of them, that's definitely when Malone's going to want to look for. Top of the key, Brantley guarded by Router, dribble hand off to Walker. 19 on the shot club. Conrad, guarded closely by Yerian. Blair looking to score here, drives the left, tough left-hand layup. Off the glass won't go, tipped out by Yerian.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Beeson controls it and Router in transition. Router, dribble hand off to Beeson pumps, tough drive. Great pass down to Yerian, and a charge. Great job there by Conrad to stand in on Beeson and take the charge. He stood tall and then fell down hard.
Starting point is 00:09:19 He took a hit, but they're going to get the first. There. Wow, an impressive play from Kinnard. 6.28 to play, only 5 to 2. Great defensive battle here with a chance to go to the G-Mack title here tomorrow. One on the line. Blair on the left wing again. He's the center of the offense.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Drives in the middle kickout, swings it back up top to Conrad. Driving. Triple handoff to Bum Gardner. He's trying to find something on the left wing, finds Brantley back down to Kinnard. Guarded closely by Eerian, 9 in the shot clock. Spinning, tough shot. Great defense by Yeran. He grabs a rebound.
Starting point is 00:09:55 It's tipped out, ball still free. Trying to find what happened. They're going to give it possession arrow. No, timeout. Able to get the timeout off. That'll be a one-minute timeout, excuse me. You're listening to Radio for Hillsdale, 101.7 FM, charger basketball.
Starting point is 00:10:12 I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds at a time. I'm Lauren Smith, and today we're going to talk about one of my favorite grammatical mistakes, dangling modifiers. Consider the sentence, exhausted after school, even coffee couldn't keep me awake. You probably know exactly what I mean, so at least it's clear, but it's also pretty
Starting point is 00:10:36 grammatically wonky. That long modifier at the beginning of the sentence, exhausted after school, is clearly supposed to be modifying I, but it actually modifies the subject, coffee, which if you think about it doesn't make any sense. Can coffee even get tired? The key here is to remember that when you have a dangling modifier at the beginning of a sentence, it will usually modify the subject of the following clause. So you could reword this to say, exhausted after school, I couldn't stay awake,
Starting point is 00:11:04 even after drinking a huge cup of coffee. And that would be correct. That's your Grimmer Minute. Hello, and welcome back. You're listening to Ready for Realsdale 101.1.7 FM Charger basketball. Five to two here, 1558 to play on the timeout called on the great effort on the tip. out on the rebound from the area and from Malone. They're good possession here. What does Malone got to do offensively to kind of get scoring? They're playing great defense,
Starting point is 00:11:31 but they need some buckets. Yeah, so right now Blair's trying to do a lot of just dig into that paint and then pass it out and try and find an easy shot. But Hillsdale's just being able to stay on their man. And because Blair has that height disadvantage with Charles, looks like they're just going to have to try and find maybe some open mid-ranges. Inbound goes to Blair. He's able to swing it around. He gets it back here driving to the left on. What a crafty inside-hand layup. Good. I mean, if he can make those left-handed layups every single time, who cares about the height disadvantage. Five to four now, Chargers still up one with 1530 to play. Woodham's top of the key.
Starting point is 00:12:03 High screen from Yerian. Worme's looks to attack, can't find anything. Back outside, Janowski will drive. Tough, pull up, mid-range, good. Ashton Janowski, 7 to 4 now. Great ball handling there. It will just get out of the way of the little poke and then pop an easy mid-range that looks like for him. That's his game.
Starting point is 00:12:19 We've said it before. He loves the mid-range. 7-4 now. Blair, top of the key. Surveing drives to the right. Kick out to Walker. He'll swing at top of the key. In now. Number zero, Frasier, LaRock. Walker driving here, 10 on the shot caught, kicks it to Bramley.
Starting point is 00:12:35 He'll take the three ball. Good. The lefty, seven to seven now. Tough shot. Joe Roodoo was right in his face, and he just popped it. A little bit of a height advantage for him at 6, 7, shooting the ball there. Top of the key, Yerian, finds the curling, Ruter, tough take. One, Joe Ruder with the bucket and the foul. It could have seen it. Joe Ruter was not happy that he just made it on him earlier.
Starting point is 00:12:59 And he's going to take it all the way to the rim with contact and still get a lucky roll to get a chance at a one-point play. 9 to 7. Joe Rutter to the line. And another early sub here for Malone. And the other guy we mentioned, Jake Burns, who plays. So the two subs that play are getting in early. So it looks like they might rotate that seven frequently.
Starting point is 00:13:19 But Joe Rooder to the line to try to make this a three-point lead for the chargers. Yeah, and the charges are going to have to keep up this aggressiveness because if you can make Malone, keep making in these substitutions you're going to have something good for you the entire game. Routers free throw no good, struggled a little bit at the line the last couple games. 9 to 7 here, 1430 to play. Blair dribbling it, taking time, screen from La Rock.
Starting point is 00:13:40 Right wing, Blair, swings over to Brantley, top of the key, swinging the ball around, finds Bumgarner in the left wing. Down low to Brannley guarded by Ruter again. Drives, middle kicks it out to Blair 9 on the shot clock now. Take the deep three ball. Good. Simon Blair. Absolutely nasty.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Take it from almost the logo with such confidence. What a shot there from Blair. 10 to 9 now. Chargers down one. 20 on the shot clock right wing Yerian. Guarded by La Rock. Backdoor cut finds Woodhams, excuse me. Great catch.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Tough defense from Burns. Woodhams finds Yerian on a great pass. Layup good. And as we're seeing early, Malone's using a lot of on-ball screens while Hills just trying to find the open man without an off ball screens. A little bit difference in offensive mentality right there. 11 to 10 now. Chargers regain the lead up one.
Starting point is 00:14:29 High screen from LaRock for Blair once again. Hedge by Yerian. Woodham's guarding him closely has the switch now on Yerian. Brantley, they're going to go to work here on Yerian driving. Tough take from Blair. Off the glass won't go. Great defense from Yerian and the rebound goes to Woodham's. Transition here.
Starting point is 00:14:46 Woodham's surveying finds Mikey McCollum in now for the Chargers. Left wing back to Woodham's top of the key. Serving the defense finds Yerian on the right wing. Backdoor cut again to Janowski. He's got Blair on the block here looking to go to work. Tough turnaround, fading. Good! Janowski with a 2-13 to 10 now.
Starting point is 00:15:04 Wow, and while Blair might be their offensive key, it looks like he's getting punished down there on defense. Yeah, Blair only standing in at 510, a graduate senior. Right wing burns in now, as we mentioned, La Rock, also in, gets the ball dribble hand off to Bumgarner. Looking to attack, step back three. Step back three ball from Bum Gardner won't go. Rebound cleared away by Ruter.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Wow. Great transitional defense there by the Chargers. Wudham's on the right wing. Looking to work here, screen from Router. Down low. Ruder with a mismatch, he'll just take the three ball. Won't go. Hustling for the rebound.
Starting point is 00:15:36 LaRoc able to secure it. Yeah, there's Joe Router. He'll take a few threes. Usually confined one or two of them for the game. Taking their time here, Blair. As we mentioned, their offensive engine. Splits the double, kicks it out to Brantley. He'll take another three from that wing.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Good. Brantley ties it up at 13 with another tray ball. They're looking efficient. That's not what you usually see from Malone's offense. Usually they're defensively minded, but Brantley's hitting those threes easily right now. Left wing, Woodham's, finds the air in. Back up top to McCollum coming off the screen. Looks to attack.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Pull up mid-range. Good. Mikey McCallum there, 15 and 13 now. Trey Baumgartner looks like he might have rolled his ankle a little bit there. Got a little bit of a limp. Yeah, that's tough too because, as we mentioned, and they don't rotate a lot of guards. Actually, none that come off the bench.
Starting point is 00:16:22 So, interesting to see what Coach would go with here. Blair finds Brantley. He's made too early. Blair on the left wing, guarded closely by Woodham's. 15 to 13, charges up two. Burns finds Bumgarner. Looks to be okay, driving to the middle. Anjanowski, tough move.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Step back, mid-range. He looks okay to me. Wow. 15 to 15 now. Makes me my worth right there. He looks perfectly fine with those ankles on a lot of those dribble moves right there. Great move, Anjanowski, gives him a little taste of his own medicine
Starting point is 00:16:49 with the mid-range pull-up. 15 to 15 now in a close game. Earing on the right wing. Back up top, Janowski. Call him for a ball screen doesn't get it. Tough defense by Blair. Woodham's able to retrieve the tip. McCallum on the left wing.
Starting point is 00:17:01 He'll take a deep three ball. And one! Mikey McCallum with the three and the foul. Wow. How do you step in, take that and drain it from deep? That was near the logo. What a shot. And that's going to take us to our first immediate timeout.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Listen to Radio for Reelsdale, 101. 7 FM, Charger Basketball. I'm Gordie. I'm Ryan. Hi, I'm Joshua Palladino, a PhD candidate at Hillsdale College. Here's Hillsdale College Master's student, Andrew Pierce, with a quote from the 16th president of the United States. Abraham Lincoln in his temperance society address said,
Starting point is 00:17:37 When the conduct of men is designed to be influenced, persuasion, kind, unassuming persuasion should ever be adopted. It is an old and a true maxim that a drop of honey catches more flies than a gallon of gall. if you would win a man to your cause first convince him that you are his sincere friend therein is a drop of honey that catches his heart which say what he will is the great high road to his reason
Starting point is 00:18:04 and which when once gained you will find but little trouble in convincing his judgment of the justice of your cause if indeed that cause really be a just one Hillsdale College pursuing truth defending liberty since 1844 Hello and welcome back your listener ready for heels 101.7 FM Charger basketball, 18 to 15, with a chance to make it 19 with Mike McCollum with the
Starting point is 00:18:28 and one three ball. And the story early has been the shooting for the charges, of course, but Ryan Bartley, as we mentioned, 6-7 senior from Decatur, Illinois. And when you have a 6-7 guy hitting threes right when there's defense on them, I mean, not something we saw in the scouting report, but clearly some of the charges are going to have to make some changes for. Yeah, and that's something you normally see at the division one level, those big wings, excuse me, but normally a 6-7 guy is a center in D2 basketball, and he doesn't seem to go down though at all. Not afraid to shoot the three ball two for two early.
Starting point is 00:19:04 McCollum at the line, a great free throw shooter. First one, or sorry, only one up and good. 19 to 50 now, Chargers maintaining that lead. It's up to four. Yeah, McCollum gets to finish that four-point play after that excellent three-point shot, foul-on. Burns on the right wing, in for the Chargers. Cole McWinney, Caleb Glazer, and Garrett Bull,
Starting point is 00:19:21 Colty. Top of the key, dribble handoff from Canard. Back to Bartley, as we mentioned, driving on Glazer. Gets him to jump, but Glazer blocks it. What a play from Cale Glazer. I mean, he comes in, and we know Glazer. He is their aggressive, big man. Woodham's in transition with the crafty layup.
Starting point is 00:19:40 Chargers with no time wasted there in transition, and now it's 21 to 15. I will say it looks like Burns their subbed-in card. He was a little anxious with the ball there, didn't know exactly what to do. Back to Blair, their offense. Driving tough pass out there to Burns. Guarded by McWinney on the right wing, back to Blair. He's got a tough, guarded by McWinney, gets around him. Tough, left-hand layup.
Starting point is 00:20:02 Good. That's got to be why he's their guy. I mean, you can just dribble around your defender, get to a clear open layup. That's why Blair scores so much. 21 to 17 now, 10 to play in this first half. Blazor on the left wing, gives it to McCollum. He's dribbling, guarded by Bumgartner, tough. Toss defense, and they're going to get McCollum with a carry.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Look like you wanted maybe a tip call there from Bumgardner, but he's upset about it, but it was a carry. Yeah, but wow, Blair, he might steal the show here if he can continue his game. He drives in. If he sees he's got the open lane, he can take it with the left, he can take it with the right. And then if he sees he has an open guy, he pops it out to then. He gets 100 assists in a season. Yeah, it's pretty impressive. And like we said, he's only 5'10, the graduate senior from Greenwich, Ohio, South Central High School.
Starting point is 00:20:44 And he is very impressive here early. And the biggest thing for, if you want to go deep in March, is having veteran guards that can make plays. You see it. D-1 basketball all the time. We're seeing it here tonight. 21 is 17 here. Just under 10 to play. And they've switched Ruter onto Blair.
Starting point is 00:21:01 Interesting. Probably just trying to look to stay aggressive on him so he can no longer feed the pain. Blair here, as we mentioned, guarded by Ritter on the right wing. 15 on the shot clock. Coming off a down screen here, Walker, guarded closely by Logan Bisa back in.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Triple handoff, finds Bartley. He'll drive. Eight on the shot clock. Has to find something he'll give it to Blair. Tough defense by Ruter. Three on the shot clock. Great defense by Ruter fading mid-range won't go. Wow, great switched by the charges.
Starting point is 00:21:24 He immediately works out. Blair could not even get past Joe Ruter. Chargers get the rebound cleared away to McWinney. Now in transition on the left wing. Servang can't find anything finds. Garrett Bulte open. He'll drive. Tough take from Bulte.
Starting point is 00:21:38 Look like you might have been fouled, but it looks like Kinnard's going to get the block. I mean, yeah, he drives there, but Kinnard stayed pretty calm there and just got the job done to get out of there. Blair, once again, guarded by Ruter, a great switch there by coach Kevin Bradley. Blair driving on Ruder to the Cup. Tough layup.
Starting point is 00:21:55 Great defense by Router again, and the layup is no good. Out of bounds is going to be staying down here. Looks like it might have been off of the chargers, and it is. Tough defense by Router already. Malone's going to have to make a change. I mean, two possessions already. You can see Blair is not going to be the guy to get it done against Router. So I wonder what they're going to change up here.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Yeah, Ruder, one of their leading scores, but also easily their best defender. Charles Wood has guarded Blair at the beginning, who is a great defender. but just not enough size to kind of contest those shots. Inbound goes here to Bumgarner back to Walker. He'll drive middle on Beeson. Tough kickout stolen away by McWinney. Transition here come the Chargers. Glazer on the right wing.
Starting point is 00:22:32 He'll slow it up to Rooter. He'll drive. Survang, can't find anything. Has to duck it down to Glazer. Great pass. Glazer will go up with it. Won't go. Unlucky bounce there.
Starting point is 00:22:41 We can see a little bit. Glazer's inexperience. Might cause him to hit a little bit of a panic pass once he gets the ball near the top of key. Top of the key, Blair. 830 to play. 11-17 chargers up by four and this G-max semi-final. Right wing canard, guarded closely by Glazer.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Servang can't find anything. Drives to the right. Glazer and they're going to get him for a foul. Caleb Glazer, as you mentioned, an aggressive defender, but he does get a lot of foul calls. Yeah, exactly. And you can see right there, all he was doing is trying to stay aggressive, got the arms a little bit tied up.
Starting point is 00:23:08 And yeah, I mean, clear sign for the ref to call that one. But they haven't called much this game. Only two fouls for Hillsdale three for Malone. So both teams, they're letting them play. It's a physical game. It means a lot. So interesting to see that the refs, they just want to see the guys play. Yeah, 100%.
Starting point is 00:23:22 And that's kind of explain this low score so far with only eight minutes to go. Blair with the baseline out of bounds, inbound it deep to Walker. 19 on the shot clock 2117 here. Blair's serving still guarded by Ritter drives to the left, spins back middle. Toth turnaround floater won't go again. Better shot there against Router. It might be his plan. He might have to take more fades to make his shots in paint.
Starting point is 00:23:44 Ruder gets the rebound, finds Boltie on the right wing. Coming off a down screen, McWurney. Can't find the three back to Bolty. Screen. McWinney now working on Burns. They find Big Rick now back in the game. Rick's surveying here at the top of the key 12 on the shot clock. Bolty on the left wing back to Ruter. He's got to go with eight on the shot clock.
Starting point is 00:24:02 He'll dump it down to Big Rick in the post. Spins baseline, tough defense, kicks it out. Beeson's going to have to take a deep three ball. Won't go. Wow, and it looked like Garrett there wanted to take the postup on Blair, which they should take if they get it down there. If you have a 5-10 guy against a guy, like Garrett is much taller. She should probably dump it down there.
Starting point is 00:24:18 Back the other way, Blair still guarded by Ruter. It's been a story at the end of this first half. Top of the key, swings it over to Walker, back to Blair in the right wing. Screen comes from Kinnard. Blair will take the deep three ball, won't go again. Rebound cleared away by McWinney. Yeah, clearly this Joe Router game on Blair is making them change up their game, and they're going to score as much there.
Starting point is 00:24:38 2117 and a low-scoring affair here, the GMX semifinal. Top of the key, big rig pumps, gets his man to jump, spins, up and under, Floater won't go. He gets the rebound, tipped around, secures it. Tough defense. They're still not getting off of him. The ball is just a physical play and he lost it. Yeah, wow. And the reps are not going to let everything fly here. I mean, that was tightly contested. A plot of slap. They're just going to let it play. Blair back the other way now in the mid-range. Now he's got the mismatch with Radisovich.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Tough move. Tries to duck it down. River tips it out of bounds. 21, 17, 633 to play. It's going to take us to immediate timeout. You're listening to Radio Freeltsdale at 101.7 FM. Charge your basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. Welcome to the Astro Minute, where we're exploring the universe 60 seconds at a time.
Starting point is 00:25:28 I'm Lauren Smith, and today we're going giant hunting. What's the second brightest star in the Northern Hemisphere? If you guessed Arcturus, you're right. Recognized by its brightness and reddish color and popularized by books like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Arcturus is a red giant, measuring 25 suns across and emitting 215 times the sun's energy. It's an old star and will eventually become a planetary nebula. It's about 37 light years from Earth, which means the light we see from it today left Arcturus 37 years ago.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Interestingly, the light from Arcturis was used to switch on the opening lights at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. If you follow the arc of the handle of the big dipper across the sky, you'll land on this magnificent red giant. That's your Astro Minute. Quote, respected. 21, 17 here, Chargers up for, and it's been the score for a minute. And the story is not many files being called. Not at all.
Starting point is 00:26:36 The refs are going to let them play. And you know what? In a GMAC tournament basketball, for some people, that's exactly what you want to see. Don't let the refs get involved. Let's just let them play basketball and have a physical game because both these teams, they love physical games. Yeah, and something to note now, as we said, Rooter doing a great job guarding Blair, and he's subbed out for a little bit, getting him a breather.
Starting point is 00:26:55 So they're going to go to La Rock and a bigger lineup. So their point guard now is Bum Gardner, who he said had a little bit of a bum ankle, but he seems to be fine. Inbound goes to Bartley, fading mid-range is good. Eight points early for Ryan Bartley, 21-19 now. Yeah, beautiful mid-range by Bartley, Got athon. Janowski back in, swings it over to Root on the left wing, guarded by Burns. Great back.
Starting point is 00:27:18 cut fine to Janowski, he can't control it. He's in the post now. Drives. Tough take. Has to kick it out to Rooter on the left wing. Just under, now it's 10 on the shot clock. Tough move by Janowski has to kick it out. Radisovich pumps.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Drives baseline, he's going to go to the post here with five. Tough take. Great defense. Has to throw something up. Can't get it to go. Once again, they're going to let him be physical down there. And Big Rick not used to that sort of game, especially with someone where he doesn't have the size advantage.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Bumgarner, as we said, the point guard now, top of the key, swings it over to Burns. right by Janowski Offball foul there on Ruter I believe on the cutting Talik Walker Fell down there Looked like Rutter bumped him
Starting point is 00:27:59 And Ruter is one of those guys that loves a physical game So I mean I'm sure he's thriving in this But it does get frustrating at some point When you get those touches Big Rick And they're just going to let him play Yeah exactly And it's also even more frustrating When the rest are going to make a call on you for being physical
Starting point is 00:28:13 And you might see it unfair Ruter again guarding him tightly They don't call it that time on. I'm got a hold of Brantley. Back up top 13 on the shot clock to Bumgarner. Screen from La Rock. Driving in the mid-range. Bumgarner, tough take.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Can't find anything ducked down to La Rock. Gets Big Rick to jump. They're going to get the foul call there. He did get Rick in the air and he came down and that is a foul call. Haven't called it all night, but they're going to call it here. Yeah, I think that one was fair to call. I mean, he was all over in the middle of the air, jumped into him.
Starting point is 00:28:43 That's textbook how you get a call there. And yeah, that one I don't think you can escape from. even though they haven't called most of it so far in the game. Fraser LaRock, the backup center, 6-7 senior from Sawbury, Ontario, Canada. George Harris Prep and a transfer from Elderson brought us. Not a name you see often, but we're playing well here. A lot of names. First one's up and good for him. 21-20 now with a chance to do in the duties of Rick.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Got him to jump there at the end of the show. The one for him is up for the cut. He makes two. Wow, we have a tie ball game here. Five minutes ago in the first half. 21 all five. As we mentioned, a play. Woodham's on the left wing. Rooters are just going to get at the top of the key.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Dribble handoff. Finds Janowski. Screen from Big Rick. Janowski looks to attack on Walker. Got him in the post. Tough move. Tough defense and it's blocked away. Big Rick is down on the floor with La Rock.
Starting point is 00:29:45 They got tangled up. Nothing called there again. They are just letting him play. When you guys got, when you have guys falling all over the floor at some point you have to make a call but not here 21 all here and the G-Mex semi-final brantley on the right wing guarded by Ruter hedge there on the screen from Big Rick he gets back handoff there to Walker in the mid-range tough spin to the right jumping won't go rebound cleared away by Wudams clear defense there
Starting point is 00:30:10 great job by Rick hedging some of the screens and being able to do a lot of help defense Wudham's in transition finds Ruter on the left wing Bister will come off the down screen fading three ball won't go Oh, rebound, tipped around. Beeson's going to get it back. Followed his shot there. Got the rebound, Big Rick. On the right wing, pumps.
Starting point is 00:30:26 15 on the shot clock now. Wudams will drive, baseline. Tough move. He's got the size advantage here. Tough defense. He's just got to throw it up. No foul call again. Tough defense there, and they won't call it.
Starting point is 00:30:37 They're not going to. And I don't even know if it's worth talking about it anymore, but they're just not going to call. And you can hear a little bit of boo from the crowd. You're going to hear the booze rang out after that call. Coach Kevin Bradley trying to keep his cool with his squad tied at this point. On the left. Wing Burns, guarded by Janowski.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Surveing. Can't find anything. Great defense from Janowski. La Rock, top of the key swings it back to Bumgardner. He'll drive to the right on Big Rick, tough defense. Can't find anything. Kicks it out to the open corner three to Brantley, or Bartley, excuse me. He can't find it.
Starting point is 00:31:05 His first miss of the night cleared away by Janowski. You want to talk about a scoring drought right now? This is a defensive affair. 21-all, 3-30 to play. Top of the key, Woodham's. Offball screen, foul called there. Burns trying to run around it. Going to get a foul.
Starting point is 00:31:20 It's good tickets to our last media time out of the first half. You're listening to Ready for Hillsdale. 101.7 FM, Charger basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. Starting point is 00:32:19 hillsdale.edu hello and welcome back you're listening to radio for hillsdale 101.7 fm charger basketball 21 all here with 335 to play in the first half and you heard it here the fans normally don't really get into it here unless their team's doing well but a little bit of a boo from the crowd there and it's not to any of the teams to the dress they're not calling anything yeah scoring drought for hillsdale as we mentioned they've maintained to keep the lead throughout most of this now tied but they've done a great job defensively to keep this game close.
Starting point is 00:32:58 Simon Blair now back in for Malone. Left wing, Router, off the inbound, goes to Woodham's. Drives to the middle, tough defense by Burns. Back to Ruter on the left wing, trying to get a post touch here. Eight on the shot clock. He'll just take the three ball, won't go. Tough fight down, whoa. Guys fighting for it, they're not going to call it,
Starting point is 00:33:16 but it is going to stay with Hillsdale. I mean, I got to say it, it looked like a clear over-the-back call there, and it just wasn't. It looked like they grabbed the arm of Mikey McCollum. who was fighting for the offense rebound. He looked at his arm to see if there was any scratches to kind of give his plea to the refs. Not any.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Basketball continues here. Inbound goes to Janowski working on Blair. Tough move. Turnaround. Fading. Won't go. Guys are fighting for the rebound. And they're finally going to call one on La Rock.
Starting point is 00:33:43 It looked like it could have been called on Yerian. And the fans are cheering. The first foul call in a while and the fans are cheering. I have never seen a crowd cheer so loud for an on-the-floor foul that doesn't affect any scoring. Yeah, and that's the first there on La Rock. Him and Yarian, I think they could have called it on either of them. Two guys are fighting, and you even saw it from Janowski on his drive.
Starting point is 00:34:03 Put a shoulder down. It's a physical game. They're not going to call it. You don't expect it. 21-all, baseline in-bounds, Janowski with the honors. Servang can't find anything here. Has to throw it back to Router. Shot clock reset to 20.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Wottoms, dribble handoff to McCallum. Screen from Yerian, Toth, pull-up, mid-range. McCollum. Good. 23, 21 now. now. I had to knock a little bit of that snow off the roof, but that furnace is still on fire from the previous game. Yeah, Mikey McCollum, feeling it here early. He can get you out of a drought and he does here. Blair back in, guarded by Woodham's again instead of Rooter. Left wing,
Starting point is 00:34:40 he's got it back off the dribble handoff on the right wing. 50 on the shot clock drives right, kicks it out to Bartley. He'll drive. Tough left hand, floater good. The second the Chargers get the lead, Malone answers back, and if that's how the score is going to be, we're going to be in a tight contest all night. 23 all here, 2.30 to play in this first half. Exciting basketball here, Don Tibbitts. Left wing McCollum. Servang guarded closely. They got a hand in his face, Ruter.
Starting point is 00:35:03 On the left wing, dribble hand off to McCollum. He's looking to shoot here. He'll take the fading three ball. Won't go. Rebound tipped out to Ruter. He regains it. Goes up with a shot and a strip there from Bumgartner, no foul. I don't know if that was really a stripper, more if it was a crossbar
Starting point is 00:35:17 that just blocked both of Chowruder's hands to be able to put it up there. Two minutes to play, 23 all. Blair, top of the key, swings it over to. to Bartley, their leading score with 10. Blair, driving. Can't find anything guarded by Woodham's. Screen, Blair comes off and kicks it to Bartley. He'll take the deep three. Won't go. A little bit of a heat check ball, tipped out, saved by Yerian. Chargers have it. Left wing here, Janowski. High screen from Yerian. Great pocket pass. Yerian to the cup and the finish. One of the foul doesn't get it, but a great finish from C.J. Yerian and a timeout on the floor from Malone. 25, 23 now.
Starting point is 00:35:55 It's going to take us to a quick timeout. You're listening to Radio for Eelsdale 101.1.7 FM, Charger basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. Is there anything wrong with being a good sport? Helping an opponent up after knocking them down? Sincerely congratulating the other team after the game,
Starting point is 00:36:10 win or lose. Showing respect for referees. It's how we should act every day at every game because nothing beats good sportsmanship. To learn more about sportsmanship, visit the MHSAA website. A message from the Michigan High School, Athletic Association, promoting the value and values of educational athletics.
Starting point is 00:36:33 101.7 FM Charger basketball. 25, 23, Chargers up, too, with 130 to play off the pocket pass from Janowski to Yerian. And what do the chargers need to do to find a little consistency on offense? I mean, you've got to keep pushing the paint. I think that's the clear answer. You know, maybe the rest will change your mind start calling some fouls. But clearly, their game's going to be in the paint, trying to get some more efficient
Starting point is 00:36:54 layups here. Back the other way off the imbalances, Blair on the. the right wing guarded by Janowski off the switch high screen from Bartley's trying to find something here Blair will duck it down low to Kinnard back in on Yerian physical down there gets him to jump floater cut get CJ to jump there easy little off-hand layup 25 all now just over a minute to play left wing Janowski screen from Yerian that's been working all night tough drive down low Janowski tries to duck it in there to Yerian stolen away there by Kinnard who just made the bucket. Yeah, back to a tie game, and we might see another scoring drought until the end of this
Starting point is 00:37:32 half, about 45 seconds left to go. Both teams fighting for their lives. Blair off the screen, pocket pass, down low. What a shot off balance. They're from Kinnard, and they're going to get a foul there. And that's one where he's fading away from the basket, kind of giving himself up, but they still call the foul. Yeah, I don't know how you can call that one with all the tough contests you've seen from the chargers that haven't been getting calls. Nonetheless, it's two shots for Kinnard. first one is up and good and another lead here from malone it's been a back and forth game 26 25 malone up one here yeah exactly you know canard mostly a rebounding guy usually getting around nine boards a game but right now it seems like he's going to be a big key to their post offense 27 25 is the second one's up
Starting point is 00:38:15 and good for the six seven junior left wing boltie back in now for the chargers top of the key swings it over to erie and dribble handoff for genowski looking to attack tough pull up mid range Nothing but nylon and we're all squared again. You want to talk about his move this game? It's that fading mid-range jumper. And he really gets up there, separates himself, and he's able to nail it. Shot clock turned off now.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Malone with a chance to take the lead in this semi-final before the half. Blair guarded by Woodham's 10 on the game clock. Surveang, he's looking to attack here. Tough defense by Woodhams, pressing it in a screen there from Burns. Tough take from Blair. Floater won't go. won't go. Canard tipped it up. Won't go and it's 27 all here at half.
Starting point is 00:39:03 You're listening to Radio Freehieldsdale, 101.7 FM Charger Basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Radio Freeelsdale. 101.7 FM Charger basketball. 27 all here. On to start the second half here in a couple of minutes and defensive battle. What are the keys for both these teams to try to find some offensive consistency?
Starting point is 00:39:26 Yeah, the charges are going to have to try and find some more boards. Right now they're losing the board game 19 to 15 Malone. And in a game like this, four possessions, four rebounds, that's going to be a world of difference. So they're going to have to crash those boards, make sure they're boxing out. What I would want to see from the Chargers is kind of mixing a little bit of Blair's game. Let's do a little drive and ditch out. Let's try and find somebody on the wing because right now they're three point percentages higher, about 42% compared to Malones, about 27. And that's their game.
Starting point is 00:39:51 This Chargers game is shooting. I mean, everybody on there can shoot. So let's see a little drive and ditch. And also, I mean, if something's there on the paint, I mean, let's keep. doing that. They got to keep root around Blair, in my opinion, that really suppressed Malone's offense. And, you know, let's just continue chasing the three ball. That's what the charges are known for. That's what we do. For Malone, I think that their best bet right now is they got to contest Janowski. I mean, he's hitting those mid-range shots like it's nothing right now.
Starting point is 00:40:15 And on offense, I'd like them to see them swing a little bit more, try and find those open looks like Blair was doing at the beginning. You know, I mean, when you have a, when you have Bartley hitting threes like it's nothing, even with somebody in his face, let's keep finding that. Let's keep doing that. You know, because right now, the charges have four blocks in the first half, which is in line with what they usually do, but Malone's got to find a way to get some more open shots that aren't as contested. Yeah, definitely would be interesting. As you mentioned, the two guards have really been the center of the offense. Janowski, he plays great almost every game, and normally isn't that offensive focal point with guys like Charles Woodhams and the shooters in Beeson and
Starting point is 00:40:50 McCollum. So he's really taken over, said, you know what, I can make this shot. They're going to give it to me. They'd be interesting to see kind of like what the Chargers did to Blair, taller defender on him. Blair's game is those tough layups really hard when you have Joe Ruter on you, who is quick enough to stay in front or at least close enough to get a contest. And then same for Janowski. Maybe you put a, they have athletic big guys as we've seen, guys like Bartley, different players. Burns came in at 6'4 a couple times. So maybe they put a bigger defender on Janowski, try to contest that mid-range shot. But at some point for Janowski, it doesn't really matter. He loves that shot. He gets to his spots so well and makes it.
Starting point is 00:41:23 Yeah, I mean, his release height is so high too. When you're jumper, Gets you an extra seven inches. I mean, that's going to make it harder even for a taller defender to get in there. While you're fading away, I mean, those shots, the stuff that he practices, the fact that he's got that down makes it tough for any defender to really get a contest on that. Yeah, and a player with honestly a very similar game to Janowski, a stray, Bumgarner, likes to get to the mid-range, has a great handle very quick. So if you do see that mismatch where Router is kind of shunned down Blair,
Starting point is 00:41:52 maybe give him the load on offense, find a way to run the offense through him, because when Blair was shut down in that end of the first half kind of middle period, it was very tough for them to score. And then Woodhams came back in on him. Did a fine job. Charles Woodens is a great defender pretty big at himself. But still, it is tough when Blair is kind of just running the whole offense. And when he gets cooking, it's tough.
Starting point is 00:42:14 Yeah, and like we saw, I mean, Bun Gardner has some slashing moves there. I mean, he can get to the cup in a signature way, and he can make it midrange. So I think Blair, while he is the key to this offense, if the charges are going to focus on stopping him. Blair's got to find a way to get his teammates more involved and maybe take a little bit of the ball time off of him and give it more to his teammates. Yeah, for sure. And the other thing to note is that at the end of that first half, Caleb Kinnard, as we mentioned,
Starting point is 00:42:39 the 6'7, Redshirt Jr. from Sunbury, Ohio, Big Walnut High School. He did a great job down low where he made a couple post shots, got to the free throw line, which has been a rarity today. So they might go back to him, even though he's very similar in size to a lot of the bigs for Hillsdale. He's a lot more physical, Big Rick. Very strong, but it's tough for him to keep up because he's not as quick as guy like Kinnard. Then you put in Yerian, who is a little quicker. Not as great.
Starting point is 00:43:05 But a guy who did play well defensively is Caleb Glazer, that third big. I know he doesn't play a lot of minutes. Not a huge offensive threat as Yerian and Big Rick are. But he does a great job defensively, and the Chargers obviously haven't had a huge problem with stopping Malone 27 apiece here. But it could be interesting to see how they rotate those. bigs. Yeah, 100% and I say get Glazer in there a little bit more. I mean, like you said, he's a third rotational guy for their big, someone who doesn't see a lot of minutes, and you know what, you can't take those fouls home. So, I mean, if we're going to use a guy, let's
Starting point is 00:43:37 use Glazer. If he gets a few fouls, that's fine. We're not, you know, the chargers aren't done for it because you still have CJ and Big Rick. And the way he's able to seem to stop their post offense, you could almost completely shut down Malone's entire offense that has been very little to start. So I think that's an interesting take here. The one thing for Malone, I just, I want see if they have more shooting in them. I mean, Bartley was really their only guy I saw shooting from, you know, beyond the mid-range. Yeah, Blair took a couple threes. Hasn't made one to my knowledge. He took a couple.
Starting point is 00:44:04 Definitely can shoot it. He's a top player in the league. But what he's guarded by even Charles Woodhams, who's at 6-4. That's a 6-inch difference in height. So that's tough for him to shoot over. And we've seen that early from the three-point line. And then another storyline, Logan Beeson made a 3-8 early. He can heat up and Mikey McCollum can heat up like no other. So if you can get those guys to make one, the rest changes everything on defense form alone because they have to press up.
Starting point is 00:44:28 Now he can drive. Both those guys Beeson and McCollum, not known for getting to the rim, but even if they drive, make a guy commit, find someone out, could be huge for the charges. Yeah, I agree. And the way that both of their threes moving three-point shots, I mean, those aren't easy shots, but they make it look so easy every time. I mean, you see that put up a shot and you almost think it's going to go in every single time. So, I mean, if you can spread the floor a little bit as the chargers and then maybe get a little bit, like I said it before, if you can drive in there and dish it out to somebody else, I think that's key to breaking this Malone's tough defense right now.
Starting point is 00:44:57 Yeah, and if I'm coach Kevin Bradley, obviously, I'm not. But if I was, my message would be at halftime. They're not going to call the fouls. Don't go to the rim expecting a foul. I've heard this when I played basketball. It's a common theme. Coaches love to say it. Go to the rim, expecting to make the lap.
Starting point is 00:45:12 If you get the call, you get the call. Don't worry about it. We have great finishers on this team. Big Rick can make tough shots. Charles Woodham's when he gets to the rim. Fantastic finisher. And Joe Ruter, I'd like to see him get to the rim a little bit more here in the second half. Yeah, I agree. Joe Ruder a little bit has been trying to play that foul early.
Starting point is 00:45:27 You know, it seems like maybe a little bit of an overreaction from time to time. And I think now he knows that those reps aren't going to give it to him. But keep taking those shots. They can make them, and they can make it look easy too. We are underway here in the second half, Malone's ball as we switch ends. Top of the key, Blair, guarded by Woodham's instead of Ruter. As we mentioned, something to note. Top of the key.
Starting point is 00:45:46 Kinnard coming off a down screen, finds Bumgardner. Tough drive, kickout. Corner three ball there. One go. Shot there by Taleek Walker. Rebound cleared away by Woodhams. A little more of the same here. Let's see if we can break this scoring drought,
Starting point is 00:45:59 maybe get a little bit of an offensive attack from both teams. Janowski setting up the offense, finds Woodhams on the right wing, 18 on the shot clock. Guarded closely by Brantley. Radisovich will take the deep three ball, rims out. Rebound cleared away by Bartley. Close one there, and that's why his pump fake whenever he's up on the three line always gets a defender
Starting point is 00:46:16 because the second they do lacklester defense, he can't pump and go. Can't find that one. Still 27 all here. early in this second half. Blair driving falls down. Great defense by Woodhams. Both guys fighting for the ball. Jump ball. Possession arrow is going to be towards Hillsdale. I'd also like to see a little bit more for Big Rick. I think hedging those screens on Malone has been working well. They're not finding their big guy on a pick and roll here. I think if they can hedge those, you can really eliminate a lot of Malone's offense.
Starting point is 00:46:44 27 all here. Great stop there by Charles Woodham's on Blair. Janowski top of the key guarded by Blair. Right wing Ruter. Fines Radisovich. Swings it over to Woodham's. Putem's on the left wing, downscreen for Rooter. Looking to work here. Down low, finds Radisovich. Working here on Kinnard. No double comes, spins baseline, pump, tough take. Good.
Starting point is 00:47:06 Radisovic with the big boy bucket 29, 27 now. Just out strength, Kinnard. And Knaard, although he's their block leader, could not do anything there. It looked like he had a hand on the ball the entire time. Radisovich just puts it right through. Interesting to see no double there. Most teams in this league do double him down low.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Back the other way, here comes Blair on the left. wing guarded by Woodham's. Fines Walker, tightly guarded by Beeson screen from Kinnard. Trying to find it down low. They can't. They're going to find Bumgarner on the right wing. Nine in the shot clock now. Canard has to go. Drives to the rim. Able to finish it with the foul on the floor from Radicevich. Interesting to see if the refs kind of had a little meeting and say, hey, this is a physical game. B'Kal had to get out of control. They're going to call one early there on the drive. The second on Big Rick.
Starting point is 00:47:47 Is it setting the tone or is it giving the fans something before they weren't calling anything? Quick inbound goes to Bartley, fading mid-range. Made one earlier doesn't make this one. 29-27, Chargers up too. Janowski, back the other way. Tough, pull-up mid-range. Good. Ashton Janowski again, 31-27.
Starting point is 00:48:05 Chargers keep feeding him the ball. He's the guy that's going to make it almost every time. Big shot from Janowski, 1756 to play in this second half. Walker swings it over to Knard. Looking for a screen there for Blair. They find it. He's driving. He tries to kick it out.
Starting point is 00:48:23 to Walker can't find it and a big run here for the Chargers they are fired up 31 27 right now looks like it's about the largest lead since almost the beginning of the game can this be the start for the Chargers to kind of pull away and really set themselves as going to be the winner of this GMAC tournament game you see canard subbed out there for the back of big man la rock hoping to get a stop on Big Rick as he did have a nice bucket they're going to get it right back down to him though the rock tasked with guarding him faces up on the block big Rick drives middle no double spins back Eastline. Tough take. Good. Radisovich with the bucket and Malone's seen enough. 3327. Timeout on the floor. Chargers are fired up. When you get a big man down there in the post that can absolutely kill someone, that is going to get you pumped up. And Big Rick is doing that right now.
Starting point is 00:49:08 30 second timeout. You're listening to Ready for Heelsdale 101. 10.7 FM Charger basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm right. Integrity, commitment, love of the game. Starting point is 00:49:40 promoting the value and values of educational athletics. Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM, Charger Basketball 3327 now. and now, Chargers up six off the back of two Big Rick, big buckets. Yeah, 100%. Malone brings him in LaRock. It seems like they don't want to commit two guys with the double team there. I mean, Big Rick has known to be able to find the guy that's open when he gets double-team.
Starting point is 00:50:04 So Malone doesn't want to commit an extra guy, but Big Rick's going to take advantage of that, and he's going to own this game if they keep letting him go one-on-one with their big man. And I think he's listening to that message, like we mentioned, you have to go up, and that one could have been a foul sure, but you have to go up, make the basket first, worry about the foul later. And that's what Eric Redisovich, the fifth year senior, has been doing in this second half. And like we said, he's such a great passer as a big guy that if you double, he's going to find the open guy. They don't want to do that.
Starting point is 00:50:31 They try a different defender. That doesn't work. Interesting to see what they do. Back the other way, Malone here on the right wing, Walker. Top of the key, finds bumgarner, swings it to Blair, guarded by Woodams on the left wing. Screen from La Rock drives baseline. Tough take. Blocked by Woodhams.
Starting point is 00:50:44 What a play there on the right-hand layup from Blair, blocked out of bounds by Woodham. And I wonder if that's something they talked about when the first. player goes up with that left-hand lamp, maybe they found a weakness somewhere that they can get that tip ball with the height advantage. Great play there by Woodham's baseline out of bounds. Blair to do it after being blocked. LaRock down low swings it to Bumgarner, 14 on the shot clock. Coming off the down screen, trying to find Blair does off the dribble handoff. Nine on the shot clock now.
Starting point is 00:51:07 Screen from La Rock. Hed by Big Rick Corner. Finds Walker drives baseline on Beeson. Tough take. Contested, can't get it to go at the buzzer. La Rock finds it. Good offensive rebound by La Rock right there, able to maintain his composure in the put one right back up in the second chance points 33 29 now charger still up for was 1648 to play
Starting point is 00:51:26 Janowski off the down screen traveling in the mid range it's been his game all night can't find anything back out to woodham's screen from ridisovich woodham's looking to work here finds bruder on the right wing driving on walker tough turnaround fading shot off the front of the rim won't go charges holding strong in this lead this is the longest lead held by the chargers about three and a half minutes so far Ruter can't find the turnaround J 3329. Blair setting up the offense, finds Bumgarden on the right wing. Swings it over to Bartley. Can't take the shot.
Starting point is 00:51:57 Great defense by Ruter on him. Blair, surveying, driving, has the advantage. Tough right-hand floater. Good. Just when you think the Chargers are going to pull away offensively, Blair is going to take control of this offense. Doesn't care if it's even big Rick on him. He'll float one up there off the board.
Starting point is 00:52:12 33-31 now. Chargers lead down to two. Beeson on the left wing. Pumps. Can't find anything back up top. Ridishvich. Screen for Woodham's. He'll attack downhill.
Starting point is 00:52:21 Tough take. And a block. Great job there by La Rock to stand in and take the shoulder from Woodham's, but he was in the restricted circle. Yeah, it looks like LaRoc might have took a little bit of a hit there on the head when he fell back. Could have been a tough call either way. Feet might not have been said a little bit in the restricted zone. And yeah, he is limping bad out there near the paint.
Starting point is 00:52:40 And it looks like LaRoc's going to come out. And when you have a guy like Big Rick who's hot right now, that could be a difference maker. It's going to take us to immediate timeout. You're listening to Radio for Eelsdale 101.1.1.7 FM, charge for basketball. I'm Gordy. All right. Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language 60 seconds out of time. I'm Lauren Smith, and I'm back with another pesky grammar question.
Starting point is 00:53:03 Should you put a comma before and? As with all things English, the answer is, it depends. In a list, such as eggs, milk, and cheese, the comma before the and is called the Oxford comma. Most style guides, all the correct ones anyway, advocate using this comma to reduce confusion, although you can technically leave it off. In a sentence with a dependent clause, such as, I read your note and was delighted to hear the news, where there's no subject for that second verb, you don't need a comma before and. If the clause were independent, meaning that the second half of the sentence could stand
Starting point is 00:53:37 alone as a full sentence, you do need the comma. Your sentence would read, I read your note, and I was delighted to hear the name. news. That's your Grammar Minute. Visit thegrammerminut.com for more tips and tricks. Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Radio for Eelsdale 101.7 FM Charger basketball. 33, 31, 15, 51 to play. And this second half of basketball could be the last half of basketball for a couple of these guys on the floor. So fighting for their lives, Malone, able to respond whenever the Chargers take a lead. Well, seeing LaRocke out getting looked out by the trainers right now, and, you know, that really hurts the low depth that this Malone team.
Starting point is 00:54:17 team already has on their bench. They're going to have to bring out their big guy, Conard, and he might have to play the rest of the game. Two shots at the line for Charles Woodham's, one of the best free throw shooters on the team. Been on the team for five years now, and has just been a great staple for this team early in his career coming off the bench with a couple of great teams, too, that won this tournament trying to replicate this in his last season. Yeah, exactly. First one is up and good. 34-31, charges up three, maintaining that lead here in the second half and you could hear a pin drop in this stadium second shots up in no good tipped around by yurian finally cleared away by burns yeah charges been able to hold their lead right now but not by much
Starting point is 00:54:57 but any lead right now is a huge lead with the scoring drop for both teams top of the key blair drives to the right tough layup won't go try to get it up and over woodhams he can't rebound yarion Janowski back the other way yarion at the top of the key trying to survey here dribble handoff woodham's 20 on the shot clock finds the area and again on the right wing trying to find Janowski down low he can't tough defense from canard ruders got in the mid range now dribble pull up rudder will go is that Ruter or Janowski over there because that was exactly what
Starting point is 00:55:29 Janowski's been hitting all day and that is the weakness in Malone's defense right now big pull-up jumper there 36 31 back up to five is the lead for the chargers blumb gardener on the right wing guarded here by Janowski screen from canard Swings it over to Kinnard dribble handoff to Blair. Swings it back over to Bumgartener on the left wing, 11 on the shot clock. Bumgarner finds Burns. Doesn't know what to do with it.
Starting point is 00:55:52 It finds the left wing back to Bumgarner. Screen from Kinnard. Five on the shot clock. Kinnard has to do something here. Drives to the right, tough take. Great defense from Yerian. Blocks it. And that's going to be a shot clock violation on the block from Yerian.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Wow, great defense. It looked like Blair before was going to try and take over this game with a lot of his insane layups that he has so far. But now that they're going to have to pass. it out after that previous layup didn't work. The team just doesn't look like they have anything going right now. Burns doesn't feel comfortable with the ball, and Malone is in a little bit of a drought right here.
Starting point is 00:56:23 McWinney now in for the Chargers, gets them into the offense. McCollum on the left wing. Woodham's finds Yerian. Back up top, 13 on the shot clock serving. Can't find anything good defense from Kinard. Has to find Woodham's on the right wing, nine on the shot clock. He'll just take the three ball, won't go.
Starting point is 00:56:39 Rebound fought forward by McWenney, saved by Blair. Malone gets a chance here on offense. Mc Winnie fighting for a board just shows how aggressive this Hillsdale Charger team is at everything they do. At 10 deep pretty much, and they all fight. Right wing, bumgarner 14 to play, 36, 31, charges up five. Kinnard, looking to find a dribble handoff here. He does, he finds Brantley. He'll take the deep three ball.
Starting point is 00:57:02 Won't go. Rebound tipped around. It's going to be off of Malone Charger basketball. Joe Ruder going to sub out here for Garrett Bulte. Charles Woodham's going to stay in he's been great he took that three ball he can make that for sure hasn't had much success offensively
Starting point is 00:57:21 but guarding Blair has been a tough task all night Blair here on McWenny Charger basketball back the other way back up top to Woodham's Surveys finds McWitty trying to get a post touch to Bolte he does Colty scanning finds
Starting point is 00:57:35 Yerian backdoor find to McWinie looking to go up with it on Blair he does have a size advantage which is rare on the right Bultie 8 on the shot clock now. Down low, they're going to get a post-touch to Yerian, dump down to Wudams. What a fine. Basket good for Charles. Woodhams, 38, 31. Beautiful dish there to Wudham's. I thought he lost the ball for a second, but no, it was a beautifully touched pass to Wittams for the easy lay. Now the crowd is into it here.
Starting point is 00:57:59 Seven point lead for the charges. They're biggest of the half. Blair on the right wing guarded by Woodham. 17 on the shot clock. Fines, Bumgarner back out top Blair. Slips the screen from Barley. He'll just take the three ball. Good. When they're in. In a drought, they find him, and it's 38-34 now. What a way to silence the crowd that was just getting off of its feet. Top of the key, Yarian, back up top for the Chargers, up four. Fines McCollum, who's now in. Swings it over to Bolsey on the left wing, guarded by Burns.
Starting point is 00:58:28 Swings it over. Finds Wittams. He looks to attack, Kant. Dribble hand off to McWinney, pumps. Finds Woodham's great pass. Down low to Yerian. Tough, reverse layup won't go. Wanted the foul, then get it.
Starting point is 00:58:38 And you're not going to get it. We've seen that the whole game. Especially on a shot like that, where you're kind of fading away, looking for a foul. As we mentioned, doesn't get it. 38, 34 now. The lead is four with a chance to cut it here for the pioneers. Right wing, Blair, guarded by McCollum on the switch. 15 on the shot clock, speeds by him, but blocked off the backboard by McCollum and a foul called.
Starting point is 00:58:59 That one looks all ball to me. I don't know what the refs saw. Looks like it's saying might have been hit a little bit on the head there. But a call that we haven't seen all night and just kind of seemed like out of nowhere. Blair's going to get two shots at the line. You're in talking to the refs. Everyone's kind of trying to get their word into him. But again, we've kind of seen this from the Chargers when they're guarding Blair.
Starting point is 00:59:20 He's quicker. He's going to get by you. That's fine. They're kind of baiting it into him, baiting him into it, and then blocking it on the tough layup. Shot from Blair is up and good. 38, 35, three-point lead for the Chargers. And Rittnisovich back in along with Joe Router.
Starting point is 00:59:35 Yeah, they're going to have their guys in. Seems like they're going to try and put the dagger in and just get up. I mean, if you get up by 10. points in this game, that could be it. Yeah, and we just saw the charges up by seven crowds getting into it, and then Blair goes on a little 5-0 run if he's able to knock this one in, and he does. 38, 36, two-point game, and Malone, a feisty seven seed, not going away here with a chance for the championship all in line.
Starting point is 00:59:57 Left-wing Router, finds McCollum, guarded closely by Baumgartner, swings it over to Bulte. Survang, dribbles, finds Radisovich, who's been hot here in the second half. Servan can't find anything Going to have to go baseline here on Canard Makes him pick it up back to Boltie 10 on the shot clock now McWinney At the horse head Great backdoor cut finds him a column
Starting point is 01:00:18 And he's filed on the backdoor find From Radisovich Wow big Rick looking like a point center out there I mean he's scanning the floor And then the touch to be able to find every pass Is amazing It's going to take us to a media timeout You listen to Ready for Eelsdale
Starting point is 01:00:31 101.7 FM Charger Basketball I'm Gordy I'm Ryan Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor. This is Minute of Honor. Here's Jinnah Suhita. On March 28, 1966, Petty Officer Robert Ingram was serving as a hospital corpsman for Sea Company, otherwise known as Suicide Charlie of the 7th Marines in Kwangnai Province of Vietnam. Their officers thought they could drive out NVA elements in the area, but they were wrong. Sea Company walked right into a three-point ambush. In seconds, the platoon ranks were decimated. As Ingram rushed to
Starting point is 01:01:02 attend a down Marine, a bullet went right through the palm of his hand. Wounded Marines were crying out across the ridge and Ingram, bleeding heavily, did his best to help them. As he tended to one Marine, he received a life-threatening bullet wound to the head, but he continued to push on, said Ingram, I was angry, but all I wanted was to get out there and take care of my men because I was going to die anyway. Though severely wounded, Ingram rendered aid to those incapable for hours. For his fighting spirit, daring initiative, and unfaltering dedication on March 28, 1966 in Vietnam, petty officer Robert Ingram was awarded the Medal of Honor. This is Minute of Honor on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM.
Starting point is 01:01:38 You're listening to Ridley for Hillsdale. 101.7 FM Charger basketball. 3836 now with two shots on the way from the charity stripe for Mikey McCollum. Great backdoor cut. The chargers love the backdoor cut. We saw it a lot against Ashland. That was the majority of their baskets were on those cuts. They find one here to McCollum.
Starting point is 01:01:56 And like you said, Big Rick gets that ball around the free throw line, kind of high post. And he can find anybody. They start coming up on him that leaves the hoop open. McCollum cuts and gets filed on the take. And those are tough passes too. I mean, as we saw, they were both fighting for the ball before that layup. And the way he has the touch to just find that small zone to get the ball there is just insane for a big one. Hey, you don't really see it at the Division 2 level.
Starting point is 01:02:21 First one up and good for McCollum. Like you said, great free throw shooter. Normally a guy that is great from three is a great free throw shooter. 39, 36 now. And interesting to see LaRocque, as you mentioned, he went down. He's got his warm-ups on now. so his night appears to be done for them. It seems like the rest of the bench other than one guy over there has their warm-ups on.
Starting point is 01:02:41 I mean, it's just going to be a tough truck to try and come back when everybody's going to be exhausted. Second one is up and good for McCollum. 40 to 36 now, Chargers lead back up to 4. Blair back the other way, he's got the mismatch with McCollum drives to the right. What a finish. Off balance, layoffs good. 40 to 38 now. Just missed the block there, McCollum.
Starting point is 01:03:01 Still, you know, even though he made that, it seems like it's right there. If you can get a tip on that ball, you can really shut down Blair's game. McWenny finding McCollum on the downscreen, trying to get a post touch here, Radisovich, who's got Knart on him. Bolty up top of the key. Servang can't find anything. McCollum gets the ball again on the right wing. Carded closely by Baumgartner.
Starting point is 01:03:19 He looks to attack, pull up fading mid-range off the front of the rim, no good. Not his shot. We tried to throw one up there. Just not what we're looking for. It's tough defense there by Bartley. Ability contested 40 to 38-11 to play in the second half. Blair guarded by Ruder once again. Switch coming, no.
Starting point is 01:03:37 Ruter stays on him. Bartley will take the contested three ball. Good. What a shot again from Ryan Barley, 4140, and Malone has the lead. Wow, that is shocking. What a shot by Bartley. Back the other way, Chargers,
Starting point is 01:03:51 dribble handoff, McWenny, guarded closely by Blair, and they finally get the post-touch to Radisovich. Double doesn't come. Comes late, he's driving, right-hand, lay-up, no good. Rebound cleared by Bumgartner, 41, 40, 10-30 to play. Has Malone found their offensive groove? A big shot by Bartley.
Starting point is 01:04:08 They need to get him involved more. If he can keep nailing those shots, what can the defense do? Blair, back the other way. Look like it could have been an illegal screen on Rutter. It isn't, but Radisovich doesn't care and blocks it off the backboard. Yeah, a hard screen there. Almost literally, he was holding Router, and Big Rigg just says, I don't care and blocks it.
Starting point is 01:04:27 Chargers down one here with 10 to play. Boltey on the left wing finds Ruder open, Rhythm, three ball takes it, won't go. No, couldn't find anything there. Tough shot from Router. He's upset about it. 41.40. Chargers still down one in the first lead we've seen really maintained from Malone.
Starting point is 01:04:46 Indeed. Back the other way here comes Blair 15 on the shot clock. Bumgarner's got it. Working that two-man guard game. Driving baseline, Ruter guarding Blair again. Tough defense. Bumgarner's got it on the right wing, eight now on the shot clock. Working on McCollum.
Starting point is 01:05:00 Trying to size him up here. Tough move. Has to put something up. Gets McCollum to jose. jump and they're going to call the foul. McCollum got him to jump. Bumgarner just threw his body at McCollum and he's going to get three free throws off of it. Yeah, just a great play with the shot clock running down to be able to get your man to jump
Starting point is 01:05:17 and then have the basketball IQ to go into him on that shot, put something up, and you're going to get a foul which is rare in this game right now. Interesting to see it as he did get McCollum to jump and then just kind of threw his body at him, knowing that they would call it. Sometimes they don't call that when the offensive player is. is the one initiating the contact, but McCollum jumped too far into them, and they called first one's up and no good. Fans kind of cheering on a missed free throw.
Starting point is 01:05:43 And the fans kind of getting after with the refs here early. Still 41, 40, two more on the way from Bumgarten. And in a big Division 2 game like this in the GMAC tournament, the crowd could be the deciding factor right now. Up and good, 424. And I believe this is the biggest lead from Malone. And as we said, LaRoc, looked like he had his jump shoot on, calling in a night, checks back in.
Starting point is 01:06:04 And that just takes determination. And for any side, you cannot hate that to come back in after taking a heavy hit. The senior from Canada could be his last game here, trying to make his mark. Up and good. 43, 40 now. Chargers down three. McWenny with the ball. Finds Woodham's back in the game on the right wing.
Starting point is 01:06:24 Trying to find something here, drives to the middle. Tough take, spins back. Ball's tipped around. Woodham still has it. I have him in a chokehold trying to get the ball. Interesting to see what the refs got. It might be a jump ball, and it is. It's going to go to Malone.
Starting point is 01:06:37 Wow. Interesting here. Laroque seemed a little bit wincing when he was running back down. Is that something that Hillsdale could exploit? Looks like we're going to have to find out. 43, 49, 17 to play Malone basketball here. And a little bit of a run from them to cut that lead that was seven, and now they have it back in their control, up three.
Starting point is 01:06:56 Blair on the left wing, guarded by Woodham's back in, as we mentioned. Tough defense there. Burns driving on Beeson. Tough defense, and he dribbles it. off his foot. Great defense by Bisa not to foul. It's going to be Charger basketball in the turnover. Yeah, and there's the inexperience of Burns right there. We see he's one of the few guys
Starting point is 01:07:11 up there that's not from the starting five and not a graduate senior, so it bounces it off his foot. Looks a little, just not calm when he has that basketball. Janowski back in for the Chargers. He's been great, Ruter. The right wing open here doesn't take the shot. Finding
Starting point is 01:07:28 Janowski who will get the post touch here to Radisovich driving, spinning back middle on the rock. Taking his time here goes into the body. Floater won't go. Ruter gets the rebound. No shot there. Fowl on the floor.
Starting point is 01:07:43 Tough rebound by Router. He's laying it all out there for the Chargers. Yeah, way to get in there. Box a man out and get that offensive rebound. Now you get the foul there and you also get to retain possession. The foul's at a minimum right now. The Chargers right now are going to have to find an open shot. Maybe get a three going.
Starting point is 01:08:01 And another foul called there. Ruter with a tough physical cut. They just pushed him on the cut, and the refs are saying, you know what, that's going to be a foul, and that's the third on Burns and the third on the rocket. They only play seven guys. I know those are the two bench pieces, but in a game like this, it's interesting to see the foul trouble.
Starting point is 01:08:18 Inbound goes in the corner there to be sent. 1840 to play, charges down three. Ginooski driving baseline, and another foul called. Three in a row tonight, and Coach Kevin Bradley, whatever he said to the refs, they're listening. Yeah, and you can see the refs tell them to alone players, you're forcing me to do this right now. They don't want to, they haven't been all game, but something has to be done when the guys are doing something legal that's affecting play in such a close GMAC tournament game.
Starting point is 01:08:43 Top of the key, Janowski on the inbound from Woodhams. He gets it here, top of the key. 15 on the shot clock finds Beeson on the down screen. He'll take the fading three ball, won't go rebound for LaRock. Had a chance to tie it there, Beeson's three ball, no good. And you can see he's frustrated about that. That's the luck that he usually can take and usually drain. we'll see how they can come back from that back through the way here comes Blair driving
Starting point is 01:09:05 baseline tough floater good Simon Blair off the glass 4540 now eight to play wow and Malone they don't want to say they're pulling away but they're really starting to find their rhythm offensively Chargers haven't scored here in a minute trying to find something they go back to big Rick on the block serving handoff to Janowski in the mid-range pull up jump shot won't go rebound cleared away by Burns not even a signature can go charges here out of their rhythm might be time to call a timeout something like that get your guys situated tell them they have this it's only a five point lead blare off the screen from la rock surveying tipped by rooner goes out to barley he'll take the tough floater good 47 40 now coach kevin bradley i believe is going to call one here
Starting point is 01:09:51 coach kevin bradley's going to get one seven point lead for malone 730 to play they take us to a timeout you're listening ready for eelsda 101.7 fm charge your basketball i'm gorty i'm ryan i'm ryan You found the Hillsdale Archives, all the exclusive speeches and lectures. Starting point is 01:11:02 Hello, and welcome back. You're listening to Radio Freehelsdale, 101.5 FM Charger Basketball. 47.40 now, Malone, with their largest lead by a lot. Up seven with 7.30 to play. Clocks do anything down, and they just keep gaining on that lead. Coach Kevin Bradley called one there. And they just need something to spark them. The Chargers, when they play at home, they get hot so quickly that it just takes one play.
Starting point is 01:11:24 Yeah, exactly. I mean, it could be a three. It could be a posterized from CJ or Big Rick. Anything to get it going, they just look uncomfortable now. It just looks like they can't find their shot. And when they get their open look, there's just something off. Yeah, and when you're a team like Hillsdale where you've beat Malone twice, you know you're better, you're kind of playing a little tense, and that could cost you.
Starting point is 01:11:41 They just, coach Kembrella, you're just telling them, loosen up, go win this game. Woodham's on the inbound drives to the middle. Tough take, stolen away by Bumgartner off the timeout. Not exactly what you wanted off the time out there. Coach Kevin Bradley wanted a foul on the reaching doesn't get one. Back the other way, here comes Blair guarded by Woodham. Screen from La Rock. Blair looking to attack to the right, tough layup.
Starting point is 01:12:00 Again, good. That's his shot, and he gets it to go. Nine point lead now, 49.40. Yeah, and I think you've got to go back to Ruter on Blair. That's how you silence Blair. And a screen call there on Router, a foul. Brewer's been physical with the cuts all day. loves the call and it's another turnover for the Chargers two out of the timeout just seven to play now
Starting point is 01:12:25 and up the lead to nine from alone and they have the ball yeah charges right now just need a good defensive stop maybe a transitional offensive play here just something Blair with the ball screen from La Rock thought about taking the three doesn't gets the ball back here and has trouble handling it gets it back here Blair on the left wing he'll take the three ball feeling it tonight finds nothing but the win there yeah that's not a shot he's better with the layups clearly and that's exactly what the Chargers need you get a misplay like like that from alone let's get something going you can find it open three take a difficult layup and drain it something to get this offense going 630 to play now 49 40 in this g-mack contest
Starting point is 01:13:05 top of the key here in dribble handoff to genowski in the mid range pull up tough shot rims out can't find it player with the rebound just seems like luck there a great shot by janowski that's his shot and it just won't fall Charger fans trying to get a defensive stop here. It's some crowd noise. La Rock, top of the key, guarded closely by Yerian. They get it to Blair. He's got an open lane.
Starting point is 01:13:27 He'll drive, kick out, finds Burns back to Blair. Left wing, bum gardener, guarded by Janowski 9 on the shot clock. Screen from La Rock. They try to find him. Great help defense by Router. He saves it, and he got the timeout. In the air, calls it. Great veteran play by Router.

You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM Charger basketball.
Starting point is 01:14:34 This game is a close one, 49, 40. Chargers are just can't find anything, but could be a spark there on the route or stop. Yeah, exactly, a veteran play there to get the timeout as he's jumping out of balance. Back the other way here, Janowski, top of the key. Finds Woodham's on the left wing. 5.55 to play.
Starting point is 01:14:52 Janowski to the tough take. Layup good. Chargers are on the board here, 49, 42. There it is. That's the spark you need. Now capitalize. Chargers, down seven. Clock to one-doing down. Crowds getting into it. It should be an exciting finish here. Blair, top of the key, guarded by Woodham's screen, hedged by McCollum. Looks to attack. Can't find anything as to kick it out to Burns. Back to Bumgarner. Top the key. 13 on the shot clock now. At the horse head is Blair. Looking to attack downhill, as he has all night. Can't find anything. Has to kick it out to Bumgarner. He'll drop. Tough take great defense by Woodhams and a foul called.
Starting point is 01:15:28 Woodham slid in position, put his hands up, didn't swipe down, and a foul is called. It's just such a late call. I mean, he waited so long to make that call, and I think that's why there's frustration. You know, I can see why he called it, but it's just so late. Bumgarner's going to get two from the line. Two huge shots, only 5.20 to play. And every point in a low-scoring affair matters. See what Bumgarner has here.
Starting point is 01:15:50 First shot at the line is up and no good. the front of the rim. Charger fans clapping about that one as they did not like the call. 49, 42, second foul on Woodhams. Not in any foul trouble are any of the Chargers in this not many files called. Besides in the second half, both teams of five. Second shot from Bum Gardner's up and good. 50 to 42 now, eight-point game. A couple of veteran squads facing off with a chance to play here tomorrow night. Top of the key, Janowski, swings it over to Erie and dribble handoff to Woodhams. driving to the cup, kicks it out to McCollum, he'll take the three ball, won't go off the rim in and out.
Starting point is 01:16:28 Just missed it, but that is what they need to keep doing. At this point, five minutes left with scoring, coming at a premium here, it's just what you've got to do. Blair, top the key, screen again, as they've done all night. Woodham's guarding him closely. He drives to the right, kicks it out. Big shot for Bartley, finds nothing but the wind again. In transition now, the Chargers, Janowski. Fans are getting into it here late.
Starting point is 01:16:50 Janowski off the screen, driving. Tough move. dribbled it off the foot and they're going to say it's off Janowski wasn't sure about the call it's a huge turnover there 50 to 42 yeah and it seems like Janowski just stopped because he was certain the call would win his way but it's not how the refs sought charges are getting stops they just are not finding buckets here see how this one concludes with 430 to play top of the key Blair guarded by Woodhams as we've seen all night looking to drive right
Starting point is 01:17:17 drives to the left here trying to find someone surveys back screen from Bartley Kicks it over to him. Bartley drives to the middle on the smaller Woodhams. Looking to go to work. Tough move. Great defense by Woodhams, but it's good. Fifthly, 2.42. Almost looked like he blocked it in there.
Starting point is 01:17:34 Chargers need a bucket here if they want to keep their season hopes alive here at home. Top of the key, Janowski. Getting a screen from Yerian driving. Tough, fade away, mid-range, good. Ashton Janowski, 52-44. Let him take over the game. Keep feeding him the ball. He'll make his mid-range jump shots.
Starting point is 01:17:54 You've got to crawl back, and he is the guy to do it right now. One possession at a time is this game is under four minutes to play. Bartley, top of the key guard by Router. Screen coming from Burns. Ruter able to get around it, or 50 on the shot clock. Bartley, tough take kicks out to Burns. One more to Bumgarner. Tough close out.
Starting point is 01:18:12 Stolen away by McCollum. He's in transition. Tough take. Good. Mikey McCollum with the bucket. 52, 46 now. Six point lead. And the charger faithful are getting loud.
Starting point is 01:18:25 Six-point game. Just when you thought it was starting to get the desperation time. Big steal by McCollum. Going to be able to take it up, make the lay contested. Blair, back the other way, has trouble with the handle drives to the right as he has all night. Floater, good. Just a big shot there, 54-46. He's unstoppable right now.
Starting point is 01:18:46 He has been fantastic here tonight. Watham's on the left wing. Gets the screen. Wadams will take the three-ball, big shot. Got. Charles Woodhams with the response, 5449. Wow, and that was a confidence shot. He absolutely drained it. Chargers down five with 2.45 to play now. Big shot from the graduate senior Charles Woodham.
Starting point is 01:19:10 Guarding Blair, tough task. It's been all night. Finds Burns on the left wing dribble handoff to Bumgarden. 12 on the shot clock. Taking their time here. Screen. Blair working on Woodham's. Drives to the right. All's tipped out of bounds, and it's staying here, but there is only six on the shot clock. It's going to take us to our last media timeout. Listen, radio for Eelsdale, 101.7 FM, Charger Basketball. I'm Gordon. I'm Ryan.
Starting point is 01:19:35 Telling the stories of those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor. This is Minute of Honor. Here's Jinnah Suhita. On April 14, 2004, in Iraq, Corporal Jason Dunham led his squad to provide fire support to an ambush convoy. They discovered seven Iraqi vehicles several blocks south. of the target location, Corporal Dunham and his Marines stopped the vehicles to search them for weapons. As they approached, an insurgent leapt out of one of the vehicles and attacked Corporal Dunham. He wrestled the insurgent to the ground and saw the insurgent release a grenade. He
Starting point is 01:20:05 immediately alerted his fellow Marines to the threat. Aware of the imminent danger and without hesitation, Corporal Dunham covered the grenade with his helmet and body bearing the brunt of the explosion and shielding his Marines from the blast. For this ultimate and selfless act of bravery, and for his unwavering devotion to his men at the cost of his own life, above and beyond the call of duty, Corporal Jason Dunham was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. This is Minute of Honor on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Hello and welcome back.
Starting point is 01:20:36 You're listening to Radio Freehillsdale 101.1.7 FM. Charger basketball, 5449. Chargers down five. Baseline out of balance here from Malone with six on the shot clock. Yeah, wow. A defense stop here would be huge. I mean, I'm on my feet, you're on my feet. This crowd is alive. This is March basketball for the GMAC tournament, and you got to love it.
Starting point is 01:20:55 Both teams fighting for their lives and a huge shot from Charles Woodhams. He's had a tough time guarding player all night with that right-hand layup. Always gets to that right eventually makes the layup almost every time in the second half. But Charles Woodhams responds with a huge three-point bucket. Chargers with a chance here to get a stop. Shot clock only at six, as we mentioned. Goes down to Bartley. Guarded by a Router 5 in the shot clock.
Starting point is 01:21:16 Drives to the middle. Great defense by Rooders. has to go up with it off the front of the rim. No good. Big stop there. Rebound, Yerian, cleared away. Just over two to play Janowski with the ball here on the left wing. Screen from Yerian.
Starting point is 01:21:29 Looks to drive. Ruder looking to attack. Spins back middle on Blair, ducked down to Yerian. Great fine. Bucket. Oh, wanted the and won, but he's going to get two free throws instead. Wow. Great pass by Ruder there to find Yerian.
Starting point is 01:21:40 Barrett almost puts it away, but he's going to get fouled. Man, is this an exciting game? Yerian, a 50% free throw shot. shooter for the Chargers and if he can make both of these he can cut it to a one possession game 207 to play should be a great finish to this one plenty of time too and no one's got to worry yet with this type of a deficit but he missed the first one first one off the front of the rim legs a little tight on that one see what he can find here second shot at the line needs it to make it a four point game erion second shot up and no good off the rim ball is tipped out of bounds
Starting point is 01:22:18 It's off La Rock. It's going to stay with the Chargers. Wow. A little bit of luck there to keep it after two missed free throws. Now let's see what the Chargers can do down five. Great effort there by Ruder to kind of fight for the rebound. Able to keep it with the Chargers. Top of the key, Janowski, 20 on the shot clock.
Starting point is 01:22:36 Screen here, swings it over to Router. Left wing, Woodhams. Fines Router at the top of the key. Guarded here by Burns. Looking to go ISO. Spins back. Tough take. Ruter hanging in the air.
Starting point is 01:22:46 God. Joe Ruder with the bucket. 150 to play 54-51 now and the way he can find control mid-air is absolutely astonishing Joe Ruter might take over this game to let the charges win. Blair driving to the right as he has all night blocked by Yarian out of bounds off the Chargers what a help play there by Yerian to block it. Blair looked like he had the wide open layup couldn't find it Yerian blocks out of bound 137 now clock just seems to be diminishing so fast
Starting point is 01:23:16 at the end of this one in bounds for Blair Fines LaRock guarded by Yerian 17 on the shot clock, dribble handoff to Blair on the left wing. Blair guarded by Woodham's as he has been all night. Kicks it. Stolen by Router. Breakaway for Ruder wide open. He'll dunk at home.
Starting point is 01:23:33 Joe Ruter raised the roof. 54, 53. Chargers deficit, just one. Wow. Three words. Wow. What a play. And they need a timeout.
Starting point is 01:23:45 Timeout from Malone. We're going to take you to a quick break. You listen to Radio Free Hilsdale, 101.7FM. Charge your basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. Charge of Faith, well, on their feet here, 54, 53. Malone will have the ball and the Chargers just down one
Starting point is 01:24:35 off to Joe Ruter interception pick six if you will. I mean I'm almost out of breath I mean what a game so far just a swing of emotions either way Chargers are going to have the lead and then they lose them alone and now they're clawing back 54 53 and Ruter looked like he might just lay it up take the easy one slams at home
Starting point is 01:24:54 electrifies this crowd inbound goes in to Blair working here on Woodham's on the left wing just over a minute to play in this G-Mex semi-final. On the wing finds Brantley driving on Ruter, and they're going to get him with a foul there. I think that's going to send Brantley to the line for the one-and-one. Tough defense by Router, but got him on the arm,
Starting point is 01:25:14 and two ginormous shots here for a guy who shot the lights out. Yeah, and you're not going to stop Joe Ruter. I'll check that. That is only the sixth foul, so he will not be going on line. Baseline out of bounds here. Shot clock resets to 20. Blair to inbound, finds Lorak. Back in to Bumgarner.
Starting point is 01:25:31 on the left wing. Coming off the down screen, finds Blair back to Bum Gardner. Just under a minute now. Just seconds left in this game. Top of the key, Blair, driving. Can't find anything. Great defense by Woodhams. Can't find anything.
Starting point is 01:25:43 Gets back to that right hand, has to heave one up. We'll go. A miraculous shot. What a shot there from Blair. Coach Kevin Bradley is going to get a timeout. We'll take you to a quick break here. Listen, really for Eelsdale. 101.1.7 FM charger basketball.
Starting point is 01:25:58 I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. Is the car all packed? Yep. Camping gear? Check. Smoors and hot dogs? Check. What about the old camping radio? Well, we won't be needing that because you can still get all of Radio Free Hillsdale's great shows and features online at Radio Freehillsdale.com under the student shows and features tab or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 01:26:24 Anytime, anywhere. All right then. Let's hit the road. Back to Don Tibbetts-Potter, Rina. You're listening to Radio Freeelsdale. One-on 1.1.7 FM. Great contest here. 56, 53 Chargers. Just down three after clawing back, but a miraculous shot from Blair, able to book at home there. And now shot clock is 30 seconds. There's 45 left. Chargers go quick, they can score and they don't have to foul.
Starting point is 01:26:52 Yeah, exactly. You know what, what are you looking for here? You want to find either Ashton for his mid-range or you want to find Mikey for eight three, which he has been pretty good for today. Yeah, they've been guarding the three closely because the chargers do like to shoot it. See what we have here. Janowski gets the imbound. Kevin Bradley talking to the refs here.
Starting point is 01:27:10 Woodham's on the left wing. Gets a screen there from Yerian. Trying to find something here. Working his man out, finds McCollum off the screen. Tough defense. Finds Janowski 18 on the shot clock now. Janowski's got to go. Tough take, spinning, fading, mid-range, won't go.
Starting point is 01:27:26 Bumgarner's got the rebound. Chargers have to foul here. Bumgarner able to run around before he's foul, then we'll go to the one-in-one now. Bum-garner has missed a couple free throws in this game. Could be a huge one here. 21 seconds left. Janowski unable to make that tough.
Starting point is 01:27:40 mid-range. It was a shot though. I mean you got to take what you're given and I can't blame him for taking a little bit of a contested mid-range in this situation. Took the life out of the building with that shot but you never know what can happen here in March. Chargers just down three Bumgarner with the biggest shot of his career. Taking his time here as the crowd ramps up. Bumgarner from the line can't find it. Rebound Yerian. Shot clock turned off. Chargers down three. Janowski, looking to go. Gets it to the Air and 14 on the shot card.
Starting point is 01:28:15 Gets the handoff here to Woodham. He drives wide up in lane, tough take, floater. Good. Big shot there for Charles Woodhams. And a timeout for Coach Kevin Bradley off to make. 56, 55 now. It's to be a 30-second timeout, I believe. You're listening to Radio for Eilsdale.
Starting point is 01:28:31 101.1.1.7 FM, Charger Basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Brian. News twice an hour, every hour from SRN News. Catch up on the latest news happening now on WRFH. Take me out to the ball game. Here stories from America's favorite pastime on the old ball game with Tate Christensen, here on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.7 FM. Hello and welcome back.
Starting point is 01:29:08 You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM Charger basketball, 56, 55, 8 seconds, 8.5 to be exact left. Chargers are going to be pressing very aggressively trying to get the steel if they can't foul. And I would say foul Bumgarner. He missed that one pretty poorly there off the left rim. So whatever you have to do here should be a great finish. Can't really talk much more. Just got to let this one play out.
Starting point is 01:29:35 Yeah, exactly. And what a night at Don Timothy Potter Arena. We got an overtime game last one and one right down to the wire right now. Yeah, two teams, one that has struggled at times but has made a great push. Got this home game. and Malone the Cinderella of the tournament if they're able to win this one as a seven-seat going to the championship to face Thomas Moore tomorrow I believe at 3 p.m. So interesting to see. Chargers are pressing here. Excited to see what we have.
Starting point is 01:30:01 Yerian on the ball, inbounder is Walker. Ball is in play with their season in the balance. They get it into Bartley trapped and he's fouled six seconds now. Bartley's going to get the one-in-one here. I don't know if the Chargers have any timeouts left, but if they do, obviously, on a miss, you have to call it with only six seconds. If not, you have to get the rebound, secure it and push it up. Even if he makes both, though, you do have a chance to tie no matter what if you secure the rebound.
Starting point is 01:30:32 Yeah, it's a good situation for him in desperation time. Bartley here, it's their best free throw shooter, 85% of the free throw line. And you can tell they were trying to get it into him. Great trap by the Chargers. And the thing that stinks about how much time was left is if there wasn't so little time, You can keep that pressure, hope for a trap. Make him call a timeout something, but they had to foul. Shot is up and good.
Starting point is 01:30:56 There for Bartley, 57, 55, 6.4 seconds on the game clock. An exciting finish here. Bartley, who's been great all night, knocks the first one through. Lines up his shot here, up and good. Chargers don't have a timeout, so they have to make a play here. they get it into Janowski 5 in the shotgun he's driving takes it tough shot from 3
Starting point is 01:31:24 won't go out of bounds one second left that's going to do it here Janowski kind of clank knees trying to look for the foul there almost didn't get it that's going to do it here I believe unless something crazy happens on the inbound
Starting point is 01:31:38 and a tough loss at home for the Chargers a team that fought all the way back this season with a chance that's going to do it inbound goes to Bartley and Malone is fired up after that upset. That's going to do it here. 58, 55. Thank you guys for tuned in.
