Men's Basketball: Hillsdale vs. Michigan-Dearborn, 11/16/23Evan Mick and Jack Robinson on the call for WRFH

Some starters for you, or at least some expected starters. For Hillsdale College, number two, Ashton Chikowsky, number four, Charles Woodhams, number 14, Walt Middingly, and number 33, Joe Rooner. For UMD, Warren, number zero, Troy Campbell, number one, Jackson Reynolds. Number five, Joshua Warren, number 10, Jimmy Burrough, and number 22, Thomas Diller. Jack, what do you think the Hillsdale needs to do today to win the game? they have to depend on their one former starter from last year, CJ Yerian. Hillsdale College basketball lost a lot from last year.

Of course, losing four starters certainly hurts. But if you lean on CJ, especially in the paint, he's really good at finishing with a 610 frame, as well as Charles Woodhens. Charles Woodhams is leading the team actually this year with 19 and a half points. He was super good in their last game. He scored over 20. So I'm hoping that the combo of those two can keep it going. and the chargers can come out victorious today.

Yeah, I'm hoping the former freshman player of the year. Joe Ruter comes alive today, as he always does. I also think that they need to keep the ball in the hands of number one. Number one from Michigan-Dearborn is Jackson Reynolds. When he scores too many points, when he starts ball-hogging a little bit, they've lost all their games. He's been incredible shooting the three, though. 54.7% is just crazy.

It's a small sample size only through four games. but they really need to do a good job containing him in the perimeter. He's definitely very talented, but when he scores a lot of points, they seem to lose games. He seems to lose. And, you know, if he scores 50 today and they lose, I think. Then it's not, is it really a good game for him? Yeah, no, I don't think so. I mean, spread the ball around is definitely the winning, winning play for UM Dearborn.

In this matchup, Hillstell is 9-0 against UM Deerborn. They last played in 2012 when Hillsdale won 84 to 50. So hopefully the Chargers can make that a nice clean 10-0 today. Yeah, definitely have an advantage of D-2 program going up against an NAAA program. It also definitely has some athleticism advantage and definitely been playing some better competition. Absolutely. I really like that we scheduled Michigan State as our first scrimmage.

Scrimmage this year. We didn't expect to win the game, and we didn't. We got blown out pretty good. but it shows that we can hang around with good competition. The competition is there. Definitely elevating competition is something that we're trying to do. Maybe something Michigan Deerborn is trying to do here today. Absolutely.

I agree. It never can hurt to play a good competition because Hillsdale's 2 and O. We were supposed to finish 6 in the GMAC this year based on preseason rank. And so we have some tough games, tough teams in the conference this year. So let's try to get good teams so we can get a good flow, good vibe of what our team has to offer, what offensive sets work best. Get the Kings all worked out before we go against these gauntlet of teams that we have in the GMAC, such as Ashland,

who won it last year and is expected to win it again this year. Yeah, Hillsdale is expected to finish sixth in the GMAC this time for the first time. And they've never finished below third. They've never finished below third. You're absolutely right. So as we tip off here, Walt Mattingly, or CJ Yerian actually handing the tip off with his 6-9 frame,

but he actually loses the tip off here. Michigan Dearborn starting the ball off with number zero Troy Campbell out to the corner out to Jackson Reynolds back to Troy Campbell definitely some some movement between the two of them oh wow Joe Ruder with a great block off Jackson Reynolds shot and Ashtonikowski got on the oh and he turns it over number five Joshua Warren with a great steel and a jump shot and he makes it first two points of the game wow quick start for you um um Michigan Dearborn yeah exactly They liked when our, in the scouting report, they said that they really like to push the ball, get steals and run with it. They're averaging 10 and a half steals per game so far.

Yeah, all their players are getting two or two or two steals every single game. Walt Maddenly puts up a shot. Doesn't go. Offensive rebound, though. That's Ashton Janikowski. Back to Walt Matting Lee. CJ Aaron using that frame. Oh, got to finish those, man.

Out of Bond stays charger ball, though. Yeah, C.J. Erring is definitely going to want that one back. Absolutely. quick two-o start for you m deerborn one minute ends the game Hillsdale setting up in a four down look trying to fend off this man defense playing Michigan deerborn so it's definitely got the size advantage in a man defense oh what a great offense

ball is CJy a area under basket wide open basket it's great coaching good good execution oh and he stepped out of unfortunate it was a great play that'd have been a nice nice easy transition basket for the Chargers. That could have been in bounds. It was a great play by Rooter. Unfortunately, just barely steps out of bounds. Great hustle doesn't get rewarded for it, but that's what we want to see

early in the game, especially. Get some good steals in there. Yep. Michigan Dearborn passing the ball in here. Number 10, and it's Jimmy Burrough. Getting the ball out to number one, Jackson Reynolds, the guy who they really like the ball in the hands up. Joshua Warren. Joshua Warren dribbles in, passes out.

To number 11, Yasser Mouhammed, and he misses the basket. Great defense. around by the charges on that possession. For sure. You have no room finishing in Dearborn. Ball on top to Joe Ruder. Out to Asking Janikowski. Tribbles in a little bit.

Passes it out to number four. Charles Woodhams. A shot by Joe Ruder is good for three. Great shot from the top of the arc. That's what we want to see out of our offense. Nice, clean looks like that. He's four for ten on the season. He definitely likes shooting that three-point shot

as he has shot the most on Hillsdale's team. Troy Campbell, out in the top with the ball now. Lots of dribbling. I don't like their offense so far. Really not getting much motion or anything. Just a lot of ISO dribbling. No. And Hillsdale's playing a man defense here.

You've got to set some screens, get somebody open a little bit. Shot by number five, and it won't go. Shot was missed by Joshua Warren. Oh, and steal by Michigan-Deerborn after Hillsdale gets the ward. That's what a little shot missed there. That's the second-chance opportunities. Can't have that. Making away with it in this game.

Oh, and he's blocked. We got pinned against the backboard. Wow. Wow. What a great play. You of Michigan, Dearborn. Blocks, number 14. That's Walt Middingly.

And then the ball goes out of bounds, and it hits off Matt wittingly last. So, ball out to number five, Joshua Warren. Up to number 10, Yasin Muhammad on the top of the key. Troy Campbell. Yeah, you're definitely right. They're not getting any space out here. Those screens, nothing creative here. And Muhammad, Yasser Muhammad, with a great drive-in.

Until that last possession, Hillsdale did a great job moving their feet laterally, sticking with their guys. But Walt just got beat on that one. That's okay. Still 5-4 lead for the Chargers, three minutes since the game so far. Yeah, ball out to Walt's Mattingly again. Up to Joe Ruter on the top and swung out to Ashton J. McCasky. Pumpfakes, down to CJ Yaron and in the paint, and he's just so big. He has at least two inches on his land down low.

I expect Hillsdale to keep going to that matchup. Makes the easy two there. What they say, you can't teach soft. That's true. Hopefully he eats all day down low. Yep. Garian's making sure to stay in front of his, the offender until he's all the way out on the paint.

Because he's got such big size on him. Look at what they're doing, though. They're getting into 12 seconds before they're even getting into their set. They're just taking way too much for the shot clock. Yeah, shot. It's down to six. Five seconds, they're going to have to take a terrible shot. Troy Campbell with the ball.

Three, two, and the shot clock is going to expire as the ball goes out of bounds. Even if he catches that in the corner, the shot clock still at zero. What a great, great defensive set by the Chargers. Yeah, really? You, Dearborn, needs to push the ball down on the court a little bit faster. That's what they're best at. Their best at going in transition, getting an easy shots close to the rim, but it looks like their half-court offense isn't what it's all out set to be.

Definitely going to need to get some speed. Deerborn now pressing, but he'll still beat it pretty easily. Passing the ball is number 22, Sam Vasu, who checks in for the Chargers. Up to Jason, up to Ashton Janikowski, back to Samuel Vasu, who has played quite a bit for the Chargers in rotation. better athletes on the floor yeah getting more second chance points playing with a little more speed little more size yeah that was a great job there getting second chance points for sure absolutely very important in this game number 10 jimmy burrow it's a basket that just looked too easy for him it was it was right over hosedill defender Ashton Janakowski, taking a ball up here. Oh, down to Joe Ruder wide open on the paint. Oh, and he takes a dribble and he reversed layup. Beautiful pose control there. He plays so calm. He does. Great footwork. Great sense of timing. No in where his defender was.

dribbling it. tough dribbles too i mean everything's just coming much easier for the chargers so far as he steps out of bounds balls going other way yep great defense there by all the chargers but one who makes some steps out of bounds number 33 joe roo as we have our first time out of the game the charges are up 14 to six roughly five minutes in the game yeah one big thing that we talked about before this game was hillsdale subs a lot more than you in michigan de bourne they sure do you m dearborn has has their two top players are averaging 37 minutes per game and 35 minutes per game, whereas Hillsdale has nine guys that average over 10 minutes per game so far.

Yeah, I think it's really big getting that rotation in for Hillsdale. I think that that's something that will help them win this game for sure, having fresh legs. Having fresh legs under them. Especially, this is only the third game into the season for the charge. It's a long year, man. So want to save the guys, keep them as fresh as possible throughout the whole year. Especially your team where even when you get into your second or third or fourth,

fifth guy, you're still might be slightly more athletic than the other team playing an NAA. That just shows that our coach has more trust in his players. We feel like we have a very deep team full of talent. Definitely. First year head coach, 2 and 0 currently. Never, never lost a game. Good for him. Hopefully he continues that today.

Hopefully he continues that streak. Exactly. Kevin Bradley, first year, we're all super excited for what he can do for the charges program. We've been incredible, has done incredibly well these past couple years. Yeah. He's a big, big stats guy. I did an interview for him one time.

And he just rattled off stats off. God just had nothing in front of him. And he goes, it's kind of a blessing and a curse. Wow. It just shows he bleeds blue. He bleeds this charger blue. He's an assistant coach to three years before that. And talking about Hillsdale's success recently, last six seasons, we've had two GMAC championships,

four 20-plus win campaigns, and we've been in four NCAA D-2 tournament bursts. Yeah, that's quite a bit. Great seasons by Hillsdale. You probably know exactly what I mean, so at least it's clear, but it's also pretty grammatical. dramatically wonky. That long modifier at the beginning of the sentence, exhausted after school,

is clearly supposed to be modifying I, but it actually modifies the subject coffee, which if you think about it doesn't make any sense. Can coffee even get tired? The key here is to remember that when you have a dangling modifier at the beginning of a sentence, it will usually modify the subject of the following clause. So you could reword this to say, exhausted after school, I couldn't stay awake, even after drinking a huge cup of coffee. And that would be correct. That's your Grimmer Minute. If they're going to beat you by threes, you got to let them. But so far, all their points so far for UM Dearborn has been down low besides for one three made by Joshua Warren so far as UM Dearborn commits a foul on the defensive side, Hillsdale will take the ball out of bounds. As they, you know, maybe they simmer down a little bit. I think we'll begin to see that Hillsdale is the better team here because they seem to be playing better getting better shots. Great offense. I think we're getting much better looks on the offensive side. We're moving our feet very well on defense, not letting them get any good looks. They've hit some

really tough threes, and that's the only reason that this isn't a blowout so far, in my opinion. But I think we just need to stick with the program, let everything come to us. We're playing a really good brand of offense, and we're playing some hard-nosed defense. So I'm lucky in everything seen so far from these chargers. Yeah, I think that they're hitting the luckier shots. I think that 10 is maybe not as bad of a... No, it could be a lot worse right now. I think it maybe even should be a lot worse. I agree. I agree with it. Michigan Dearborn's gotten a little bit lucky with their shots. It's number zero. Troy Campbell checks back into the game. The guy who doesn't really come out,

playing point guard again. Has house number five, born. My question though is, where is Jackson Reynolds for UM, Dearborn? He plays 36 minutes a game. We've Hardly seen him. And a steal by Samuel Vassou. Out to Cole McQuinney. Who makes the layup? Great transition layup. Again, a good look.

We didn't expect zero and one. to go out of the game so early. Absolutely. It's number zero right now. Speak of him. It puts up a contesting mid-range shot misses it, and the charges corralva rebound, and they get fouled.

95 feet from the rim. Not a good foul by UM-Deerborn. Definitely not, definitely not a smart foul, no purpose in that foul at all. Just the charges closer to the bonus. Chargers, being pressed a little bit, light pressure by Michigan-Deerborn as Cole McQuinnie dribbling the ball with no problem.

And teams do that just to force the issue a little bit, try to get some salmon out of there guys see if you can get a lucky lucky you know triple off the foot or something as number 33 Joe Ruter takes and makes a three wow he's just he plays so calm everything that he does everything that he does is under control every step is the right way see now has 13 points for the chargers the chargers and the game he is he is dominating right now for sure as a couple players fall down but no foul tested layup as number Joe Troy Campbell misses right there. And he misses out a little bit there. And defensive rebound. So okay defense, but really just an unlucky bounce there on the rim. Wow. That's number five. Joshua Warren contested in his face. What a fast pace. He took that with 26 seconds on the shot clock.

It's Potter Arena for a Hillsdale versus Michigan-Deerborn game right here. Hillsdale is currently winning 47 to 29, kind of dominating in the score and dominating the game even more than that, maybe. Most part that I think that's the biggest takeaway is nine offensive rebounds for Hillsdale won for Michigan-Dearborn. I mean, we're just getting so many more second-chance points, and we have so many more points off of turnovers. We have half the amount of turnovers that they have.

We're just telling much more of a clean game, much more. more simple game getting a lot of shots at the rim. Stuff that you love to see out of the fishing offense. Yeah, Hillsdale seems to have the better athletes in this match for sure. And they seem to be playing confident. They're not trying to do too much. They know that they have the better athletes. So they just want to get out of here with a win with a pretty dominant win.

They're not trying to do anything crazy. One of the biggest surprises of the game, UM Dearborn actually has more bench points than Hillsdale. We talked before the game started how Dearborn doesn't really go to their bench at all. but somehow they have more points than Hillsdale in this game. Shocked me reading that stat. Yeah, usually their highest two-point scorers are number one, Jackson Reynolds and number zero Troy Campbell. Jackson Reynolds, the guy who has scored 30-something points before,

average is almost 20. Average is 22. He is currently sitting at zero points. And Troy Campbell, shocking. The guy who plays 36.8 minutes a game is averaging, or currently only has one point on a main free throw. No basket.

Joshua Warren for them. Who else has a fan? It's been Jimmy Bro, right? A little bit of Mohammed Yassin, for sure. Yeah. I get done under the paint. But, I mean, Joshua Warren,

Andrew Leamy had a couple of nice threes, but there's not really a lot of offense in Yusican D-Bor. Especially not. It's just coming so much harder for them. Especially not in their normal spots. They're just playing ice-hop ball. They are. They're really trying to beat.

It's a rec league or something. A Hillsdale team who has a better defense and better athletes. They're trying to take them one-on-one. They're trying to take them off. dribble and they're settling for tough contested mid-range shots tough contested threes some of them have been going in credit to them but hill still just needs to keep up their tough brand defense as we start as we look to start the game back up here in five seconds yeah hill still definitely just used to not change anything if michigan deerborn wants to win this game they're going to have to start moving off

ball for sure absolutely i completely agree with you moving off ball getting their guys open as i mean they're just shooting contested shots right now which is why they're playing hero ball they're trying to the dribble and it's just not working for him. Hillsdale's moving their feet laterally very well saying in front of them making them take jumpers. Yeah that's why Hillsdale is shooting 10% better than Michigan Dearborn. Wow, asserted himself down low there. I'm really loving Hillsdale's out-of-bounce play so far. They've gotten such good looks. I haven't converted on all of them, but such good looks down low. Yep, as Router takes a simple jumper, and it just seems to be so in control. Pulled up from right around 15 feet with great confidence. As he gets another two points right there. Number zero in there. Jackson Reynolds.

We're going to call a foul on the screen. He was moving while he was setting the screen. We're going back to Hillsdale basketball. It is 54 to 31 Hillsdale with 17-18 left in the second half. Hillsdale really dominating here as I passed out to Janikowski. Hopefully we're going to get us to see some of these bench players for Hillsdale coming in the game pretty early here. Yeah, maybe possibly pretty soon. But you definitely don't want to lose the lead.

No, absolutely not. 23 points is a lot. Hillsdale's definitely dominating, but definitely don't want to, want to put any pressure on it. Not a great look there from CJ. I like the confident he took, but offensive rebound there. Charles Woodham's. He's leading the team in rebounds right now.

It's crazy. He's got eight and he's leaving the team or second in the team in points. Now with 14. Really great offensive game by him. It's not just the offensive rebounds. Second chance points. Yep. Hillstall's done a good job of contesting without fouling so far in this game, with the exception that we just saw right there. But they've done a really good job, getting in the face, not hitting the arm while they're going up or getting under them and like stepping on their foot when they land. Yeah, they definitely, they only had five fouls in the first half. Which you don't really see. You don't see in college basketball anymore.

A very solid number for a whole half for sure. Absolutely. That takes the skill right there to defend without falling. Joshua Warren makes both of his free throws there. Good job by him. I don't understand this. Down to Samuel of a suit wide open. I don't understand this press at all from Dearborn.

It seems to be that some players are pressing and some players just aren't. That's not what I'm surprised about. It's just they're not accounting for the players on the near mid court on the sides. They don't have anyone there for them. As Deerborn gets a nice, easy layup, he'll sell's breaking this press super easy. Yeah. As now Deerborn falls out of press after that horrible last attempt they just had. Yes.

Andrew Leamy had the layup right there. Oh, no. And a miscommunication. That communication there. Between Woodham's and Glazer. Yeah, Woodham's passed it. And as soon as he passed it, laser was gone.

Yeah, offensive player turned us back, looked to set a downscreen. Yeah, that's what happens sometimes when you're a freshman playing in these early games. Absolutely. get to see their sons play truly uh Caleb Glazer played in two games as a freshman averaging 16.8 minutes um very very good that we see a freshman contributing that's always really important have somebody young but we had a miscommunication there definitely see the errors of the having a freshman play so early i mean not quite used to the the team and everything is number 11 nice tough shot there by mohammed he's been our best player in my opinion today he really has him number five or 24 makes it makes a three right there yeah it's definitely In my opinion, either Ben Muhammad or Leamy for sure. Samuel Vasu gets a wide open three-pointer.

Mikey McCollum, making it difficult for him to get the ball up. As they jump the pass and miss. They're aggressive on defense now. I guess that's what was causing those 10 turnovers. Yeah, that's how you have to get back in the game. They're averaging 10 and a half steals per game. Haven't seen too many today as number 22, Sam Vasu just blows by his defender against an easy layup.

He's had a great game so far as well. I think that's seven points for him here on that layup. Definitely been dominating and getting some good passing in there too. His number zero. Hillsdale definitely still dominating the game, but it's usually backing off a little bit, hoping that they can pick it up a little bit here. Something the coach doesn't want to see is these lulls. in the game as Colm Quinney misses a three. Don't love that shot by Cole McKinney. Don't love that shot, but, I mean, you got to start. Wow.

And then another. Tough make there by number 24, Andrew Leamy. Andrew Leamy's really been great on those faraway threes. As McQuinnie takes the ball up, hoping to forget about that last possession. For sure. I think confidence he has in taking the shot. I do.

I just didn't fall. Definitely. You definitely want to see that one fall, but. always tough to make a three. Wide open threes are never, never all those. You should see him shooting in practice, though. We're both Hillsdale college students. You see them practicing sometimes during the day, they're automatic.

As Hilslilm misses another three, though. Dearborn goes down the other end. This is not, oh, Jackson was thinking about a three there. A little of a slump here is that Girboard has closed a lead. It's now only 63 to 47. Yeah, 16 point lead. 16 point lead, sounds a little dangerous. A little bit dangerous.

Hillsdale definitely does not like what is happening right now. The coach is Maybe see a time out here as soon as Drive by light up there. Troy Campbell makes another two-pointer to make it 63 to 49 Hillsdale. Just keep it interesting. That's all Hillsdale's doing. Wants to make it a game

for these fans that came out. Maybe a little bit to make it interesting for sure. Against an NAA opponent. There's definitely somebody you want to put away though right here I think. Absolutely. Get on a little bit of a run. I's cut out Michigan and Dearborn's run. We've gotten a lot more perimeter shots than I

would like to see. Yeah, got to get some Some more drive and driving baskets. We tried to feed it inside, but steal by Deerborn. Both the Hillsdale highest points scores are currently out of the game as number one, heavily contested on that layout. Jackson Reynolds misses it. A nice little dribble move there, but 21 Mike and McCollum. And he misses the short jumper. And Hillstill has still not cut this run.

Again, 38 of our points have been in the paint, and I can't remember the last time we've had a look in the paint. No, but on the court currently for Hillsdale, neither one of their high points. highest point scores. They're guys who have been dominating this game.

They've been Charles Woodham's and Joe Ruder. I would love to see head coach Kevin Bradley. Just put out one of our guys to just steal this game away, and then we can get the secondary guys in. Just put the game away. But I definitely like seeing what he has without those guys. Because if one of those guys gets hurt later in the season... Hey, don't even say that, man.

Knock on wood or something. But if somebody misses a game, somebody gets sick, you know, out for a game. Absolutely. It's good to see what we have really in the season. Great ball movement right here. Oh, and kind of a four shots blocked. What a pass by Walt. You think that was a good? the past. I thought he got blocked right there. I thought he kind of put up right behind his head. Maybe he did. He did definitely be a highlight. Yep. CJ Yarian with an easy layup right there with his 610 frame. Hillsdale is currently winning 67. against Ashton Janikowski. Oh, my gosh. Goodness. Joe Ruder comes back and has an amazing block. Wow. You see why. He was one freshman of the year two years ago. He got up there. Oh, my goodness. He so extremely talented. That was

a phenomenal play. Hand of God from a Above just comes down. A phenomenal chase down and a phenomenal block. Wow, it looked like LeBron. Game 7, 2016 finals. Didn't pin it against the backboard, but got the same elevation. Yeah, that was an amazing play by Router.

Definitely an extremely, extremely talented player. I didn't know he could get up like that. I'm not going to lie to you. People look at this Hillsdale college team. Definitely. It doesn't scream out athleticism, but man. Wow, we have a great take there by Jackson Reynolds and one layup. And one layup, yes.

But it seemed that in that play, they took a little bit of momentum out of Deerborn's shoes. Oh, absolutely. Definitely some wind out. All the players kind of look down at their feet. They got it down to a 14-point game. It's now back up to 16. As they're shooting at Ann 1 right here, could be a 15-point game. But it definitely does seem the momentum is swinging back in Hillsdale's favor.

You finally felt the impact of the home court advantage. The fans got off their feet. Definitely. That was very, very exciting play right there as, as Woodham has dribbles the ball up. giving it out to Router. We're going to make another great play right here. This time on offense, though. As he dribbles around, 17 seconds left from the shot clock.

Up to Woodham's. And it was touched by the defender. Out of bounds. We'll be Hillsdale's ball on the baseline, as they call their play. This Hillsdale offense is great, though. I love how they get it down low into the middle. Great movement to get open into the lane. Number four, Woodham's.

Passed the ball. Let's get the ball back to him a little bit. Oh, maybe not. Up to CJ. Unfortunate pass. I just don't think that was a smart pass passing the double team is Dearborn misses a transition layup. These are chances that they cannot blow if they want to get back in this game. As Router.

I think the one takeaway that Kevin Bradley is going to be mad about his team is,

as free throws are 5 for 10. Definitely want to see that improve. Other than that, though, 20% from 3, just not the Hillsdale Chargers game. It wasn't years past when they had a bunch of knockdown shooters. Those seniors from the years past are gone now. Now we have such a great post presence. I love seeing these nice close shots as we're just dominating the second chance points and points in the paint. 44 points in the pain.

It almost is lead outscoring UM Dearborn. Yeah, and you look at the rebound difference. It's 41 to 21 in favor of Hillsdale. That is just such a testament to the amount of effort. Because rebound is honestly usually an effort play. The leading rebounder in the game, the guard, 6-3 guard Charles Woodhams. Yep. as Hillsville gets back underway.

They have the ball. Up to Joe Ruter. And then out to Cole McQuinney. Charles Woodham. Oh, no. The freshman, Keelb Glaser. Under the basket makes a great shot. I love that.

Just a very athletic play right there. I love that because he could have kicked it out to some semi-open shooters, but he felt like he had the better post dominance there. Took it up strong. I had the confidence to go up with that ball right there. He'd love to see that at a freshman. Wow, it's number 11, Cole McQuinnies. McQuinnie trips a little bit,

but Hillsfield's defense. still in great position as number 11 has to make a three in Joe Ruter's face. Wow, Muhammad. That has been their best player tonight, I'm telling you. He has been dominating for sure. Only average is seven per game so far this year, but tonight, how many, 13? He's at 13, doubling is average currently as the Chargers pass the ball. It's Joe Ruter.

And then down to Charles Woodham's the guy who scored a lot of their points in this game in the paint, and he does it again. It's just too easy. Dominating down there. arm, which I wouldn't say it was enough for a charge, but just gets a little separation. Yep, definitely using that size advantage to his, at least the strength advantage of is for sure. Yeah, Mitchell Showborn, Hillsdale College's strength coach. Shout out. As he rips the ball around and gets a jump ball for Hillsdale.

Do they call it a foul? Oh, no, it's a jump ball possession of Hillsdale. Yeah, the size of Hillsdale, we talk about it height-wise, but the size of Hillsdale strength-wise, you just look out there and all of our guys are much more toned than they. They're most of their players. Again, we have a bunch of tall guys, but you wouldn't say that they're like, they're skinny. You wouldn't say it at all? They were skinny.

No, no, definitely not. They're well to find out there. Yes. As Hillstill takes the ball up in Beach, Michigan, Dearborn's Press. Passes the ball up to Glazer. Shakes a top, double team, get rocks, great rebound, and Cole McQuinney with a jumper from the free throw line. I love the confidence they're taking these shots with, no second thoughts, rising up, hitting the shots.

Up his first points to the game. Good for him. Really, really, really, really. really confident shot that I love I love that shot right there comes from the second chance point it comes from the offensive rebound as number five Joshua Warren goes up and gets followed on a block is he's going to take two shots here when Hillsdale almost has more offensive rebounds than McKin Deerborn has defensive it's crazy what's the numbers on that right there's 15 offensive rebounds to 19 defensive rebounds wow that is just way too close you're just not going to win many basketball

games. That means almost every other possession, they're getting, they're getting like double the possessions that you're getting. Absolutely. Absolutely. And we're not even, we don't have, oh, we're shooting 51% now from the field. If you're shooting 51% from the field and you're missing shot, you just get it back. Let's go up with it again. Yeah, shooting four for 20 from three when they've all been really open as. Wow, as the Hills Hills Hills Hills Falls fans scream right before the shot and they're going to at least think that they contributed to that miss on the free throw. Definitely some of that home court advantage right there. Exactly. Warren makes the first one, but misses the second one on a loud brick call.

Credit to the Hillsdale fans. If you're listening to this on the radio, get to a Hillsdale college home game. Yep. As Hillsdale is currently winning 73 to 55. The next home game is Saturday, November 25th, and we take on Grand Valley State at 3 p.m. Please come out. Yeah, Hillsdale currently has the ball, and they're winning 73 to 55 against you, Michigan, Deerborn in men's basketball. Joe Ruder with a three-pointer really been their only good three-pointers shoot theirs game, and he hits another one. Wow. He does not look like he should be able to make threes, man, with that big front. Oh. And there's a hole.

So number 22, who is that San Vasu, gets a steal, was going for the loose ball, and Deerborn committed a foul. Deerborn tripped him up a little bit, tried to grab him a little bit, so that he couldn't get to the ball and they get the ball anyways, and they get a foul now. So now number one, their usual highest point score, only a seven this game, really a... Yeah, it's kind of disappeared. It's three fouls, though, now on the game. Wow. Another guy in a little bit of foul trouble with five minutes left to go. He's going to want to forget about.

Yeah. Game most of these guys on Michigan, Dearborn are going to want to forget about it. They're down 76 to 55. But they cut it close, though, for a while. They came back, and as a result, Hillsdale hasn't got to clear their bends like they wanted to. Yeah. Hillsdale did start to put in, not their second, third string players,

but they're rotational guys and let them see what they could do. Got to come to the ball. As Deerborn gets a steal. Oh, my gosh. Was that a block by Joe Reier? Oh, and they're going to call a foul. Oh, that was a late whistle now? Very late whistle there.

Interesting. Almost really, really great defense on Joe Rooder's part. It's a good job to at least get back on the transition defense. Yeah, for sure. They've done a really good job of playing defense without fouling, but, I mean, he gets called on that one. Better to make him shoot two free throws and let him shoot an open layup. As it's only his first foul, so he has some to take with five minutes left here.

As this player at the line, Thomas Dillard? Oh, as he misses that one. Going into this game, was shooting 12.5% from the free throw line. 12.5%. Again, this probably isn't on a lot of attempts. But it has to be at least eight. At least, yeah.

And that means you would only have one for eight. Yeah. As he misses the second one. It goes 0 for two there. So Hillsdale definitely read into their scatting report. Joe Rooder, great foul. Yes, for sure. As the Hillsdale fans scream brick again and he misses again.

There you go. And now there's a foul on defensive. Number five, Joshua Warren against Michigan Drewborn. least Michigan Dearborn players are starting to get a little bit frustrated. Getting a little frustrated. They're down by 21 with five minutes left. Commit some fouls and the score is 76 to 55 Hillsdale with only five minutes left in the second half. Ball up to Cole McQuinnie as the freshman.

Glazer sets the screen and McQuine drives in a contested shot, heavily contested. Unfortunately, rims out for him. He's not afraid to trigger though. You don't see that at a freshman. He definitely committed a foul there. He's upset about it. Well, McQuinnies not the freshman, though. Oh, really?

No, no, no, Glazer is the freshman. Oh, is a junior year. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Gotcha, got you. McQueenie's the guard, a little bit of a rotational player, kind of put in the back burner, and then a lot of guys graduated this year. He's played quite a bit this year. Not starting for the team, but very, very, very solid for this team so far.

Definitely need to be a contributor if Hillsdale wants to win a lot of games. Absolutely. And again, as we said earlier, Hillsdale's projected to finish six in the GMAC, which hasn't happened. They haven't finished worse than third. Yep. That's number zero. Troy Campbell misses his first free throw.

Scores still 76 to 55 Hillsdale. With four minutes and 52 seconds remaining in the second half. Michigan Dearborn going to need a quick turnaround in order to win in this one. Do you think it's going to have? I don't need this chance. I don't believe in them, but if they're going to need it done, they're going to need to get it done right now. They finally made a free throw while Hillsdale's fans were channing brick right before. Michigan Dearborn going into that really heavy pressure now, not just light pressure because they are down by

money trying to make a last chance effort really desperate effort right here to win this game but hills still breached the press pretty easily the ball's up to same old as soon and now jo rudder loses it goes up loses it but it gets kicked out to ashtonowski misses the offensive rebound by the six area and he goes up and lays it in that's one right there that you could tell that he had the height advantage over the defender the strength advantage too man he didn't have to go over his back but he just grabbed it right on top of them didn't commit a foul just not right up need play as hillsdale plays some great defense here and this man-to-man all of it has been man-to-man defense so far this game his dareboard misses a tough layup again nothing has come very easy for

them on that side today definitely as woodham has the ball the second leading score for hillsdale really him and him and him and rooder are the ones scoring all their points today look at his matchup though i mean he's just dominating in the paint for sure he's a guard but he has a great pose presence and he's got some great strength on him Great play by number zero. Troy Campbell with the block. It's blocked as it goes up. Hillsdale keeps the ball. 22 San Vasu.

It gets nothing but error on that one. Unfortunate as the play clock was running down and you really, really needed to get rid of that ball. As a timeout is going to be called by Hillsdale. A full timeout. It'll be back. 22 point lead for the Chargers. 276 to 56 Hillsdale. He's instituted some pretty sweeping reforms in our school.

Right here we're probably going to see the rotational guys. I love to see that. All of them out there. And then pretty soon we might be able to see some freshmen get in there. That'd be great. As the Hillsdale has five freshmen in this class. Hillstale's looking to improve to 3 and 0. Of course, this is an NAA team and still not conference play,

but going into conference play, they're looking to beat their projected record of 6th. Which is funny that they're projected out because they've never finished below 3rd. He graduated for all GMAQ players, your fifth starter, or four out of your five starters, three all GMAQ players, and lost your head coach. The only player that survived. The cleaning out of the coach. Yeah, and cleaning out of the coach. But Hillsdale is really probably going to make a statement this year and tube that number six wrong.

That statement's going to come and they play on Tuesday versus Northern Michigan. That'll be a tough test for it. That'll be a really one. Really tough test. Much tougher than this NAA matchup that Hillsdale seems to be dominating in for sure. Absolutely. As number zero, Troy Campbell takes the ball up and passes it out. There's an argument to play against these NAA schools, you know,

just get some confidence for the guys. And there's also a argument. They've also played the Division I team, though. There's also an argument for playing again, Michigan State who they lost the exhibition game at. And playing Northern Michigan in their next game. As Joshua Warren. You've got to be able to be tough competition, you know. Joshua Warren makes it too.

Got to be able to beat these tough teams. Yep. get some confidence in this game and face some tough teams in Michigan State. Joe Ruter and the starters still some of the starters still look to be out there. Two and a half minutes left in a 20-point game.

Interesting decision. Scores currently 78 to 58, Hillsdale. And Mary and misses a three. But look, look who it is on the offensive rebound. Woodhams. Again, on another rebound. Ars Woodhams.

Kicks out in the corner to number two. Ashtonovsky, sets up their offense, feeds the post in the area kicks it out to Joey and he misses the three he's really shot well all day he sure has unfortunately missing that right first half 13 13 points in that first half yep as i believe that that was a foul call was a foul call still yep at number four charles woodham's going in front of their offensive bore they called him there but yeah very unfortunate call i appreciate the hustle got to appreciate the hustle Michigan deerborn is now in the one-in-one which they were not even close to in the first half.

But this is number 22 shooting right here. Dillard, Thomas Dillard. Thomas Dillard, the dude who's shooting 12 and a half percent. If you're going to follow the guy. Look at the arc on this shot. Follow Thomas Dillard. And he misses that one. Wow.

They're going to have to start doing a hack of a shack and hack a Thomas Dillard on him. If it was a closer game, they would be doing that. Believe me. They definitely would be taking advantage. But in your game, you're up so much. You want the clock to run as much. much as possible whether they have the ball in office. I mean, I bet half of the fan, I bet almost all the people listen to this right now could shoot better than 12.5% at the free throw line.

I don't even, he's not even shooting that well anymore. Yeah, after today. Charles Woodens makes the fadeaway shot. He's at least 0 for three today, so that's going to be lower than 10%. If you can shoot less than 10%, you can play in the NAI school. Yep. You've got four players for Hillsdale in the double digits. Ashton Kovsky at 10 and CJ Yererian at 10. And then two players, Charles Woodams and Joe Ruter at 21 and 20 points. As Muhammad just makes another tough layup. He's been really good for them today. Very, very, very good.

Definitely something they're going to want to keep up for him later in the season. As C.J. Erie and misses a layup. As they get into their NAA play. Well, and they call a foul right there on Joey Ruder. They're going to go back to the line. Yep. Hillsdale is currently winning 80 to 60. That's number five, Joshua Warren looks pretty shaking up after that.

He's grabbing his nose or his eye. I can tell. Possibly bleeding out of his nose. Or something. I don't know. Something like that. Definitely looking at his face, but he's, seems to be back out there on the court. He's been playing so hard for them today, too. In a losing effort, but he's been playing super hard. Yeah, he has 14 points, one point behind a leader.

Looking to maybe tie the leader on this one-and-one free throw, but definitely been playing really, really, really hard basketball. Even though they're going to lose, you can't, you can't underestimate, like, the heart that these guys have been playing with. Definitely, definitely a lot of effort on both sides. Although, for the diving balls, those still seems to be on the ground. Absolutely. That's just good coaching, good culture that they have here. as Hillsdale takes the ball up with a minute 24 left to go up 80 to 60 20 point game Michigan Dearborn makes it dive at the ball the Hillsdale's just kind of looking to possess it here oh never mind they shoot three McCollum shoots a three misses McCollum shoots a three

unfortunately missed by another freshman who's been playing some minutes here wow as number five Joshua Warren look off do you see how fast he was on that oh my gosh again get another basket plays like number five this is named here and fox on the Kings Looked super fast like him on that one too. Yeah, for sure. He's up to 16 points on the game leading the Michigan Dearborness. But Hillsdale is still winning 80 to 62 with only 45 seconds remaining in the second half. Looking to close this game out, looking to run down as much of the shot clock as it possible,

is they only have four seconds left. And McCollum shoots a fadeaway shot with zero seconds left. Only shooting that really because the clock was expiring. He has some good separation on the move, though. I don't hate that look. It was actually a pretty good shot. just barely rims out, didn't miss by much. Yep.
