Starting point is 00:00:01 The following is a special presentation of WRFH sports. Crowd is roaring. It's a sold-out game here. Takes the three. This is outside to Tavon. Tavon takes the three. Got that one. Back-to-back three is for the Chargers. Hillsdale Charger Basketball on Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM, starts now.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Hello and welcome. You are listening to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101. 1.7 FM Charger basketball. Sorry for the technical difficulties. We are back here at Don Tippett's Potter Arena for senior night for the three seniors will introduce later. They're taking on the Northwood Timberwolves. What do you got for this matchup, Brian? Well, it looks like that the Northwood Timberwolves are coming off a hot victory last week versus Finley, the leading team in the league right now. So, you know, they're not a team to put away even with their 7 and 17 record right now, and I think it's going to be a challenge for Hillsdale. They've been in a little bit of
Starting point is 00:01:26 cold slump recently, especially after two losses of the previous week. Yeah, for sure they were coming off a cold streak. Cain here at home a couple Saturdays ago and was able to win an absolute thriller versus Kentucky Wesleyan. I was thinking that may give the charges a little bit momentum, but it did really not. They have had a hard time winning in this league, which is a tough one. Finley has kind of pulled away as that number one team. Good little note here for Northwood.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Their coach, former Tiffin head coach, who led the Dragons to a couple GMAC championships. So a team that with that 7 and 17 record, not necessarily the best, but definitely on the rise. Yeah, and that's just something you got to look for. I remember I was talking to CJ Yerrien earlier, and he was talking about that the team is having troubles with their shots right now. He's a little bit more out of their efficiency with their open looks. Just looks like a shooting slump is what they were talking about. Yeah, for sure the charges are a team that shoots a three-pointer at a high volume and likes to defend. And when you can't make that three, liver die by it.
Starting point is 00:02:21 They have a hard time winning. But for Northwood, their leading score, Elijah Wye. Watson, the 6-7 graduate senior forward from Chicago Heights, transferred in from Wayne State, Nebraska. He's averaging about 14 a game. And one thing to note early, though, he is their biggest starter. And only 6-7-2-10, well, Big Rick, you know, standing in there at 6-9, he's a big player from Chargers.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Yeah, you know, it's a big thing. And the Chargers can dominate down low. That could be a huge key factor in this. But, I mean, Northwood knows a way to win if they're going to be Finley like they did last week. So clearly they're going to have their game, and the Chargers are just going to have to dominate from three and also control the rebounding game. I think that'll be a huge factor in tonight.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Yeah, for sure. A lot of different scores, not a lot of one player from Northwood. A couple guys scoring over 10. So definitely should be an interesting one. Senior night, as we mentioned, honoring three starters and three guys that have been in this program and have done great things since they got here. Charles Woodham's leading score for the Chargers, big physical guard. Joe Ruter, a guy who was huge in that victory here at home.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Last time we were here with two-step pack. threes and overtime and then big Rick obviously a staple down low him and c jerry and the big guys that provide the chargers a lot of size that a lot of teams in the conference don't have yeah and i will say uh watch remember watching that finley game there was a little bit of trouble controlling our rebounds but if we can get those big guys to secure those boards uh i think the charges are going to have a good shot to really pull away with this game and not really make it too much of a competition well we're excited for another g-mac battle here on a saturday at don tibbitt we're going to take you a quick break here for the national anthem you're listening to radio free hills

Starting point is 00:04:36 I'm Lauren Smith, and quotation marks are not used to create emphasis. People often use italics or bolding or caps lock to indicate that something is super important, especially on signs. Think, do not enter. Those are all correct ways to indicate emphasis, though they're not appropriate for formal full-length writing projects. The wrong way to indicate emphasis is to put the phrase in quotation marks.
Starting point is 00:04:59 When used to indicate something besides a direct quotation, these marks are called scare quotes, and they typically indicate some kind of irony or sarcasm. So do not enter becomes do not answer. For short messages on signs, you can use italics, bolding, larger font, colorful font, or caps lock. For longer, more formal writing, structure your sentences to make the emphasis clear without resorting the fancy fonts. That's your Grammar Minute. Starting point is 00:07:37 Ariel McDowell, here with a word to the wise. What does it mean to be crunchy? In the 90s, the label usually referred to hippies. However, the definition has expanded. Crunchiness can now describe someone who avoids harsh detergents or won't eat fast food. It's on the rise among young women in particular. We've begun to notice the negative effects nonstop chemical exposure has. And I've often found myself swept up in the pressure to live the right way, the right lotion, the right produce, the right milk. While the desire to live responsibly is good, ultimately it's the Lord who sustains us. He doesn't ask us to create a perfect life.
Starting point is 00:08:17 He asks us to walk righteously and to trust in him. Starting point is 00:08:33 This has been a word to the wise On Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM Welcome to the Poetry Fix On Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM I'm your host Erica Kaiba bringing you your weekly fix of poetry from across time. Today we're continuing our journey
Starting point is 00:09:05 through on the morning of Christ's nativity by John Milton. Last week, we discussed how Milton plays with classical themes, setting them into dialogue with Christian revelation. Today's excerpt opens with a pretty clear parallel to Virgil's fourth echelogue, which includes a messianic prophecy for seeing a child of divine origin who will put an end to war, take away guilt, and ultimately bring peace. While Virgil links the divine child to Apollo, also a god of light,
Starting point is 00:09:36 Milton portrays the Christ as far surpassing Apollo. Later on in this excerpt, the Christ will command the stars in place of Lucifer, which was another name for Apollo. Though the classical tradition, symbolized by Apollo, provided valuable light to the pagan world, its influence and power is nowhere near as great as the Messiah's. In Milton's portrayal, the whole world and all the violence in it seems to stop in its course in the presence of the Christ child.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Spear and shield are uphung, the chariot freezes, unstained with blood, and the trumpet's battle cry is hushed. Kings themselves are stilled, somehow sensing that a greater power than them has arrived. Indeed, all of creation is hushed by... J.T. Morgan. Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Radio for Heelsda, 101.7 FM Charger basketball. Great senior sendoff there for Joe Router, Eric Radicevich, Big Rick, as we know him, and Charles Woodham's.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Time to get down to some basketball. We've got the starting lineups rolling out here for Northwood. The two forwards, like you mentioned, two of their high scores. We got Elijah Watson and J.T. Morgan. The guards for them are Brandon Shamray, Jameson, Eklund, and Will Young the second. Quite a veteran group for them. A lot of juniors, a lot of seniors. Yeah, that's what we're seeing here.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Elijah Watson, averaging 14 points a game. I mean, that's something that could carry them if they're going to be a guy that they're going to lean on. Once again, we talked about that height disadvantage, though, and we're going to see how they take care of that today. Yeah, for sure, and, of course, the starting lineup that has been so true for the Chargers all season. Really haven't mixed things up with Ashenjian-Gunowski running the point.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Charles Woodham's leading score. Logan Beeson, the three-point sharps shooter, Joe Ruter at the 4 and round it out with Big Rick at the 5 here. It should be exciting. One thing to note, we always try to point something out before the game. One thing I'm going to point out is Cole McWenny. Last time we were here, he had the best game of his career, had that huge three-pointer to seal things at overtime.
Starting point is 00:11:36 And a player like that, I tell you what, if he gets hot off the bench, he's a special player. Yeah, and it's just someone you want to see out there all the time. I mean, when he's out there and they pass it around and they get to him out on the wing, he can just drain them from wherever he is. And he was electric during that Finley game here at Don Tibitz. And this place was wild, and he was just knocking him down, and he really sealed the game for them. Yeah, one thing, too, to note is a lot of teams will sag off the Chargers, big players,
Starting point is 00:12:00 because they have that disadvantage, maybe zone them off. But I tell you what, Big Rick can shoot it, and CJ Yerian as well. Last time we were here, three-for-four from three. And you don't always see that from him, but I tell you what, our big guys can shoot the basketball. And it's never a problem. You see one of them pull up from three, and you're not saying no. You're looking at it, and when it goes in, you're not shocked. Those guys can shoot, and the Chargers definitely swing it around
Starting point is 00:12:20 to make sure they get an open look from anybody that's out there because they trust their guys to shoot from wherever. And then another guy that comes off of events, one of the leading scores from this team, as their six-man, Mikey McCollum, the sophomore. He and Beeson are very similar players, tough defensive players. They shoot the three-pointer at an amazing clip. And when you have two of those guys that can rotate like that guarding some of the best players, it's great.
Starting point is 00:12:41 And then defensively, Joe Ruter is just a difference maker. It doesn't matter who he's on. He's probably on their best player, and he's getting tip passes, blocks, everything. So excited to see him flying around which could be his last game here at Don Tivitz. And he is just a savage. I mean, he's going to go for the ball whenever he sees it, and you'll see him diving on the floor, making plays. The hustle out of him is incredible,
Starting point is 00:13:00 and it's just a difference maker that you don't see in a lot of teams when you have a guy like Joe Ruder. Yeah, when you're leading, one of your leading scores, excuse me, and an all-Gemak guy is also your best defensive, gritty guy, will take a charge, stuff like that. It really lifts up the team, and when he gets going and when he locks in on defense, there's really nothing a team can do.
Starting point is 00:13:15 So excited to see how this goes. Chargers obviously favored it in this one with that record, but like we mentioned, Northwick with a ginormous victory over Finley, and in a conference like the GMMAC, with a lot of good teams, you never know what can happen. Yeah, you can't count anybody out. And we're going to see how the charges are going to be able to bounce back from their rough week that they had.
Starting point is 00:13:32 We're going to see if they're going to, I bet they're going to try and get a lot of just wide open shots that they can knock down. Something good, good ball movement, and they're not going to force anything. Yeah, and I think they find that rhythm early. This stadium is packed here for a Saturday at 3 o'clock. Coming off the girls game in honor of Emmy Sig, former Hillsdale student who passed away tragically. Great turnout.
Starting point is 00:13:49 Women's team did lose, but it's great to see the community out wearing pink for her. and we're excited for another one here. Should be a good one. About to have tip off here, Big Rick against Elijah Watson. Here we go. Ball goes on the wing, top of the key. Going to find Braden Schamansky. Brandon Shamray, working here on Woodhams,
Starting point is 00:14:08 takes it low block, swings it over, finds Jameson Eckle down low to their leading score. Elijah Watson, working on Ruter, spins, baseline, lost it. Still working. Trying to work on him. Ruter strips it and they got a foul. Wow. And there it just showcases right there,
Starting point is 00:14:22 as how gritty Joe's going to play this game. I mean, he smacked the ball out twice there. And although he did get a foul, I mean, he's going to fight for that ball. And that's something we're going to see throughout the whole night. They're going to give it to him on the shot. Definitely interesting. It didn't know if he was going up. Look like Ruder just kind of stripped him.
Starting point is 00:14:35 But great play by Router a little bit of a size disadvantage on one of their leading scores, guarding him early. So it could be an advantage Northwood looks for. Knox home the first one. First one up and good. Your score 1-0 here, Timberwolves, with 1941 to play in this first half. Laja Watson shoots free throws at a 51% rate, so not the best shooter. Second one's up and no good rebound cleared by Big Rick.
Starting point is 00:15:00 1-0, as we mentioned here at the start of this first half. And a zone early from Northwood, Router on the right wing. Scanning, trying to find something, swings it to Woodham's on the left wing. Beeson on the right wing, swing the ball around the zone. Top of the key, Beeson swings it to Rood on the right wing. Back to Janowski, 12 in the shot clock. Ruter looking for something in the right corner, swings it across. Beeson, left wing pumps, drives middle, floater.
Starting point is 00:15:22 up and no good rebound cleared away so he just shot a little too straight on that one has to get that one a little bit higher but that was a good floating look coming back the other way here comes northwood brandon shamray swings it over to watson working on rudder down low to that other big man jtie morgan will take the pull up mid range can't find it ball cleared by bison that's exactly what they're going to have to force charges coming back the other way jannowski on the left wing to rudder finds it down low big rick in the zone back out rudder back down low on the block to big rick 19 on the shot clock going to work here size advantage swings at rudder top key three ball won't go rebound cleared away good no look passed there by big rick to get it out to joe and that's the clear look they're
Starting point is 00:16:00 going to want to get throughout the rest of this game shamray taking his time here that zone problematic for the charges early one nothing here with 1832 to play watson working on root on left wing swings it down low to morgan spins back middle dumped down layup blocked by big rick cleared away by rudder in transition here comes jinooski working on watson his layup is no good in a foul Wow. Good transition offense there to get it down to Ashen. Going to get fouled there, go up for two shots. Yeah, Janowski, a very fast guard was able to get in transition off the Big Rick block there. Jameson Eckled 6-5 as well.
Starting point is 00:16:33 They have a couple forwards, no general big guy, but it looks like they're trying to get in the post early. Yeah, I mean, they're getting it down there and they're working them. I wonder how Hillsdale's going to respond, though. I mean, you can either commit more men and then leave open the wings, or you can just hope that your big men like Big Rick and CJ can dominate down there. First one's up and no good for Janowski. Your score still 1-0 here. That 2-3 zone from Northwood could be a story to follow with the way the charges have been shooting.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Second one is up and good. Your score 1-1 here. And Joe Ruder is going to pick up full court here. Inbound goes to Shamray. Working on Woodham's here, setting up the offense, 25 in the shot clock. Top of the key to Watson. We're going to find something, find Shamray. Top of the key working on Woodham's drives for the left.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Left hand left blocked by Woodham's cleared away by Roeder. Massive block. Big play there. Rooter on the right wing here. Coming back to the other way for Chargers, still 1-1. Router ball's tipped out of bounds. Off the Timberwolves there. Going to be Charger basketball, sideline out of bounds on the right wing. And we see with back-to-back possessions right there
Starting point is 00:17:33 that the Chargers have been good with denying those layups that they're bringing in close. Chargers here trying to stop the offense against the zone. Woodham's top of the key. Beeson left wing in the corner, Janowski. Janowski drives middle, trying to survey, finds Ruter kick out. Wudham's top of the key with eight on the shot clock back to Ruter. Wudham's top of the key driving. Tough take stripped away stolen there by Eccl.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Eklund taking the ball up the court here after the steel. They'll set up the offense here with Watson working on Big Rick. Iso on the right wing. Trying to find something. Swings back middle. Has to just to the top of the key to Shamray working on Woodhams on the right wing. Top of the key Watson swings it. Eklin.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Corner three ball there. Won't find one there. Nick Ellis. Sorry, with the shot. No good. Chargers back the other way, Janowski. In the mid-range. Can't find anything.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Woodham's on the left wing. Swinging around, Beeson on the left wing. Big Rick in the corner here. He'll take the corner three ball. The big fella, can't find it. Rebound, clear by Router. Looking to go back up, he will. Can't find it another rebound Router.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Ball is tipped around in a foul. And wow, that just showcases the grittiness of Joe Ruder right there, getting two offensive rebounds in a row, and also showcases the shot that we're going to trust the big men with, or the charges are going to trust the big men with. with Big Rick taking a three from the corner there. CJ Yerian checking in for the Chargers and number 24, Will Young, checking in for Andrew Smith, the freshman guard.
Starting point is 00:18:59 They got the start today. Ruger fouled on the floor, so it's going to be a baseline inbound here. Beeson will take it for the Chargers. Still 1-1 with 1652 to play, 20 on the shot clock. Top of the key, Janowski, gets the screen from Yerian. Driving, looks for the mid-range. Step back, pull up. We'll go.
Starting point is 00:19:16 That's his shot, folks, 3-1 here. And that's exactly what you're going to do to break the zone. Seems tough and tough right now for them to break it, but if they can continue doing stuff like that, it's going to be a lot of easy mid-range scoring for them. Shamray working on. Woodham's coming back the other way on the right wing. Swings it to Watson.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Working for the post touch. Can't find it guarded tightly by Router. Drives baseline, spins back. Ruter with the steel. Tipped away to Wudham's, and he's got transition. Here we go. Swings it out. Beeson three ball.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Big shot, Logan. Beeson. And that's something you're going to see on repeat tonight. Joe Ruter Steele, followed by a big three. pointer and a turnover for the timber wolves that's going to take us not to a time out sorry northwood want to 1 6 1 here chargers up 5 with 16 12 to play charges hit a big shot there Logan bison in transition and then just kind of threw it out of bounds from northwood
Starting point is 00:20:05 looks like they were just trying to respond fast there and get something going so it keeps the charges out of their flow but if anything that's going to be the opposite right now checking him cole Mcwinning the man we mentioned at the top of the hour c j erion On the right block. Oh, Deeson wants another one. Deep three ball won't go. Rebound cleared away by Morgan. A little heat check early for Logan. Still 6-1 here, 1550 to play. Shamray working on McWinney. Post touch to Eklund. Step back mid-range from the lefties, pure. That was just a pure, clean shot by him. Six to three now, Chargers still up three after the Eklin middy.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Woodham's on the left wing here. Still trying to beat that zone. Yerian drives baseline, kicks it back to the middle. Joe Rood. Rooder! my Joe Ruter slams at home on senior night and he got up there big finish there eight to three and Joe Ruder ignites this crowd here early chameray working here on McWinney drives spins middle pull up mid-range won't go cleared away by McWinney and that's not going to be their game early if they want to keep taking those stepbacks those are not going to fall efficiently for him on the left win McWinney 24 on the shot clock charges up eight to three after the Ruter slam decent top of the key finds McWinney on the right wing down low on the block to Yerian
Starting point is 00:21:19 swings it over top Logan Beeson download a Ruter working on Morgan passes down to Yerian great fine layup is good you cannot let Joe Ruter get in this sort of state right now he is finding everything defensively and offensively a great dish to CJ right there 10 to 3 here 1445 to play charges up seven early in this GMAC contest top of the key Eklund working on Beeson drives middle comes back to the left left hand finish for the lefties good. Good little spin off there down low. Great finish there.
Starting point is 00:21:50 10 to 5 here, Chargers still up 5. Working against that zone that hasn't switched up for Northwood. McWenny on the right wing. Looking for something. Finds Rooder in the middle. Kikovin'clock Beasin. Open three ball on the corners. Good.
Starting point is 00:22:02 Joe Ruter with the assist to Logan, Beeson, and three more for the Chargers. And that's exactly there. You're going to break this zone, slicing them up through the passes, swinging it around, finding the open guy. 13 to 5 here, Chargers, expanding that lead. Watson at the top of the keywork. on Ruter. Screen from Eklund. Watson's got the lane on the right side.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Good defense by Ruter cleared away by Yerian. Get another one there by Joe Ruter. Follows him closely. Make sure that that's not an easy bucket for him to make. McWenny here. Setting up the offense. Chargers still working against that zone. Right-wing Router.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Trying to find something in the middle, finds Yerian on the right wing. Swings it over to McWinney on the left wing. Finds Joe Ruter in the middle of the floor. Working on Morgan, finds Bison. He's checking it. Over the screen. Oh, my! Logan Beeson! Timeout, Timberwolves. Your score 16 to 5 here. Chargers up 11.
Starting point is 00:22:53 You're listening to Radio Freelsdale 101.7 FM Charger Basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. The Astro Minute, where we're exploring the universe 60 seconds out of time. I'm Lauren Smith, and this month we are anticipating a solar system party. This February, get ready for an unusual planetary treat. All seven planets will be visible at the same time. planets appear all month in their journey along the ecliptic, the line of the sun's path across our sky,
Starting point is 00:23:24 and Mercury completes the group in the last week. Around February 24th, start looking about 30 minutes after sunset just above the western horizon. Mercury and Saturn are side by side, Saturn dimmer and on the left. Use binoculars to find the faintly bluish Neptune just above them. A little farther up lies spectacular Venus. Using binoculars again, continue up the line of the ecliptic to find greenish Uranus just south of the Pleiades. Still further up, Jupiter outshines everything except Venus and the moon. And lastly, bright orange Mars sparkles near twin stars, Pollux and Castor. That's your Astro Minute. Don Tiff, it's Potter, a radio, three, Hillsdale, 101.1.1.5 Chargers up 11, 13, 31 in this half. What's going right for the charges early?
Starting point is 00:24:15 I mean, man, they are just passing the ball, well, finding the open guy, Joe Ruder, with his defensive efforts or getting them easy transition offense. And then when they are in their stable offense right there, they're able to pass it around and find the open guy. And an amazing fading shot earlier before the timeout called by Northwood. Yeah, Logan Beeson, a guy that we mentioned at the top of the hour that can really shoot it. And he's found three threes here early. Feeling it coming back to either way.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Here comes Northwood trying to respond. Sham right here working on McWinney. Gets it at the top of the key, top. Swings it on the left wing to Watson, working on Garrett Bolte, who's in for the chargers. They're going to get an illegal moving screwing. there on 23 Nick Ellis who's checked in. Charge your offense here, see if they can get something started again. That timeout, let's see if it keeps them in their zone or breaks up a little bit.
Starting point is 00:24:58 Looks like they might extend the zone here with a little bit of pressure. Like winning on the left wing here. 25 and the shot clock attacks it. Bynes Wadams. Swings to the corner to Beeson. Try to find something. The trap comes. He's able to hit it off the player.
Starting point is 00:25:12 It's going to stay charger basketball. But you see the difference there off the timeout. They're able to extend that zone, a lot more pressure. Before it was kind of a lax. two, three, where they were just kind of letting the charges pass around. They're extending it, bringing pressure early, trying to trap. Yeah, and getting to the man early like that. Look it again.
Starting point is 00:25:26 You're going to double team there and get it out. Boltie swings it over to Beasman on the left wing, down low. McWinney, corner, three ball. Oh, my, we'll go, and the chargers are lighting it up early. And if you can pass it like that across the key, you're going to break up this zone easy. 19 to 5, charges really expanding this lead. Watson working back on Boltee, 1244 to play, 20 on the shot clock. Top of the key, Nick Miller, or Nick Ellis, sorry.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Shamray working on McWinney. 14 on the shot clock, drives right, step back, mid-range. Won't go. Rebound by Ellis, tipped around, cleared by Boltey. We've seen that shot multiple times by Northwood. Can't seem to find a McWinney attacking back the other way, Boltey on the left wing, swings it to Woodham's. Pressure staying consistent for Northwood.
Starting point is 00:26:11 Corner, Beeson. Doesn't take it, swings it to McWinney on the right wing, swings it across to Boltie on the left wing. ball is popping around here right block swing out three ball woodhams will go charles woodham's on senior night the floodgates have opened they're just finding the open guy right now throwing it across the key and getting great looks and they're nailing them tonight chargers really expanding that lead here coming back to the other way will young driving in a foul McWinney thought he got him clean on the drive there didn't it's going to take us to immediate time I'm out the under 12.

Here are stories from America's favorite pastime on the old ball game with Tate Christensen, here on Radio Free Hillsdale 101.1.7 FM. Hello and welcome back. Newsterner radio for yields though, 101.7 FM Charger basketball. Chargers up 22 to 5 here in a matchup that had a couple Charger fans worried
Starting point is 00:28:06 just due to that huge win against Finley, but what does North would need to do offensively to score more than 5 right now? Well, it looks like it's that height disadvantage that's getting to them right now. They're taking a lot of fading shots, step back shots. I think they just got to swing the ball around more and try and get something going. The tight man defense here, maybe some pick and rolls that seemed to be working early. It was just they had the tight defense of people like Joe Ruter on them. So I think some screenwork might help.
Starting point is 00:28:27 to get them into easier layups. Baseline out of bounds goes in there to Nick Ellis. Fading shot there. Tough one taken by Will Young cleared the rebound there, Janowski. Another fading shot. I mean, that's just not going for him right now. They have to find something else to do. Noah Pruitt in for the game.
Starting point is 00:28:45 Timberwolves have switched a man here after what the charges did to that zone. Janowski, top of the key, swings at the boltie on the right wing. Glazer here, top of the key, finds Janowski on the left wing. Janowski working. Looking for that mid-range shot. Can't find it. Wudham's in the left wing. Tough move.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Woodham's driving. Physical take with the left hand good. And I will say it looks like the man defense for the Timberwolves might help them get some more contested shots out there, but then it just leaves the inside open. Chargers able to make that layup Charles Woodham's 24 to 5 here. Chargers almost up 20. Watson working on boltie top of the key.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Drives left kick out there. Finds Jordan Rogers. Will Young working on. Woodham's on the right wing there and he's fouled. Physical defense. they're going to get them on check that it's going to be on glazer there who's in the high post working physically they're going to get them on the push
Starting point is 00:29:34 it just looks like right now that timberwolves just can't find their offense they're taking a lot of good consistency shots something that be good looks but they're just not falling right now yeah you don't expect timorles to shoot at this bad of a clip all game but we will see baseline out of bounds goes in to will young working in the mid range tries to find it tipped away by glazer stolen cleared by woodham's working in transition here Here. He's driving on Young. Tough take. Left hand lay up. No good.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Rebound clear by Morgan. And here come the Timberwolves back the other way. Young's got numbers. He'll take the deep three ball in transition. Won't find it. Rebound, clear by Woodham's. And those are the shots that they're going to have to make. When they get open looks like that, if they want any chance to come back right now, they're going to have to start making those threes. We're back in for the chargers here, working on Noah Pruitt at the top of the key. Driving to the left. Kicks it to the corner to Janowski. He drives. Spins. Middle, up and under. Left-hand. up oh my a little bit of sauce there from Janowski just an absolutely physical play by Janowski to get down there and the up and under to score great finish there 26 to five chargers up 21 here early 10 minutes to play in this first half ball down low tipped away stolen by Ruter with numbers in transition
Starting point is 00:30:45 scanning kicks into the corner Janowski with the three ball oh my insult to injury the three ball is good time out Timberwaltz I mean the charges right now are just hitting their threes 29 to 5 here. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. Charger basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. This is The Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group. Starting point is 00:32:06 Chargers up 29 to 5. In bounds. Off the timeout for the Timberwolves. Watson's still in here on the left wing, dumps it down low to Morgan, working on Glazer. Trying to back him down, trying to get a good luck. Spins back. Tough floater won't go foul. And even though there's a foul right there,
Starting point is 00:32:21 Timberwolves have got to change up what they're shooting. We're just seeing a lot of stepback fading shots around the mid-range. They got to open up their offense because the charges here are seeing it and they're defending it well. Yeah, tough defense there by Glazer. One of the more physical big men the charges have a little bit smaller, but I tell you what, he's an energizer bunny out there. Trying to guard Morgan, who is a graduate senior, one of their leading scores.
Starting point is 00:32:42 He's going to get to the line, make the first one. The scoring drought will end here for the Timberwolves. 9.41 to play 29 to 6. The Timberwolves can get something good off of defense here in transition. Maybe they can find something to really open up their game. Second one is up, no good. Rebound Boltey. Going back through the way.
Starting point is 00:32:59 He's going to push it. Drives it to the mid-range. Still in man, defense for the Timberwolves. Ruter on the right wing. Gets a screen from Boltey. Trying to find here, top of the key. He's guarded closely by Eklund. Fines Beeson on the left wing.
Starting point is 00:33:12 Glazer in the corner, finds Ruter again. Ruter looking Iso on Eklund. Step back. Can't find anything. Nine on the shock like Janowski. Stolen away there by Shamaray. Finds Eklund. He pumps on the right wing.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Swings it. Watson, swings it one more. Morgan, open three ball, steps into it. Won't go. rebound, Skyed, cleared away by Glazer. Another tough one for the Timberwolves. Can't knock that three down. Janowski coming back to the screen by Glazer in the mid-range.
Starting point is 00:33:37 That's his shot. Finds it download a Glazer. Pump. And a travel on the pump fake. Got the guy in the air, looked to go up for it, maybe get a foul, but he moved on the set. We're seeing a lot here by the charges. It looks like they're beating him with speed right now,
Starting point is 00:33:50 which is not usually their game. Usually we see a lot of good swing passes and finding the open guy. But right now, it just looks like they're man-handling them, beating them with speed and finding the open look. Great job here by Coolew. Coach Kevin Bradley took over for John Tharp, the new AD, just has the Chargers humming right now. Zone defense, man defense.
Starting point is 00:34:07 Everything's working. Shamray back the other way here. 29 to 6, 8.50 to play in this first half. Working down low Morgan. Tough floater won't go again. Cleared away by Woodhams. Tough miss. Here comes McWenny, swings it.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Can't find anything tipped. Saved by Watson. Big Rick will get it down low. Stolen away. Could have called a jump ball. They don't. Great steal there by Andrew Smith. Let's see how they're going to change up their pace here.
Starting point is 00:34:32 If you find an open three or even just a straight layup, get something going. Shamray kicks it down low to Morgan, but it's stolen by McWinney. Great effort there on the bigger player, and the Chargers have numbers here. Morgan's still down. Logan Beeson three ball. Won't go. Big Rick tips the rebound around. Staying here.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Great effort there by Big Rick with the size advantage down low. Tip the rebound out of bounds off the Timberwolves. Going to stay here. That felt like the first miss the Chargers had from three in a while. Yeah. Logan Beeson, who's made three already, had an open look, couldn't convert. But once again, the Timberwolves having open layups on the other end, just can't convert. Baseline out of bounds here for McWinney.
Starting point is 00:35:09 Still 29 to 6 here, Chargers maintaining that lead with 815 to play in this first half. Baseline out of bounds, McWinney has it his hands, finds Big Rick up top, swings it to Woodham's. He comes off the screen, driving to the cup on the right side, fade away in the mid-range, won't go, rebound, big Rick. Hookshot, Rick, good. size advantage. What a great offensive rebound there. And that just showcases how important that size advantage can be if the charges can use it well.
Starting point is 00:35:34 31 to 6 here. Shamray back the other way. In the corner to Watson working on Ruder once more. In that corner, looking to work here. Router not giving them anything drives. Middle puts his head down, lay up good. Those are the aggressive takes they're going to have to make if they want to stay in this game and come back.
Starting point is 00:35:51 31-8 now, 7-41 to play. Chargers set up offense. Still working against that man look from the Tim. Emeralds coming off the screen. McWinney finds Big Rick down low on the block. Expecting a double team to come. It does. Finds McWinney. Step back three ball. The senior. Oh my goodness. Cole McWinney with the tray ball, 34 to 8 now. That was just a beautiful shot. Step back. Had all the plays in the world and he's going to knock it down. We mentioned him before. He can get hot in a hurry like a flame thrower. Balls tipped on the other end.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Stolen by Ruder. Big Rick clears it. Shamaray with a turnover. and McWinney here working on the right wing, 25 on the shot clock. Working down low. Fines Beeson, swings it over, right wing Router. Trying to find something here working on Morgan. Pull up mid-range, Ruter. Can't find it. Woodham's tips it out to McWenny.
Starting point is 00:36:38 Radolph, it's a rebound by Charles Woodham's. Fines McWilly on the back cut. He spins around. Layups, good. Crafty one. This Timberwolf's defense is just in shambles right now. They have to do something to put their foot down and make sure the chargers can't get easy,
Starting point is 00:36:52 wide open layups like that. 36 to 8 now. Coming back the other way, Watson on the block, working on Ruehler once again. Trying to find a layup. Driving. Double team doesn't come. Floater in the mid-range. Can't find it. And we have a wedgy.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Possession arrow is towards the chargers and another defensive stop. It's going to take us to a immediate timeout. You're listening to Radio Freeels out 101.7 FM Charger basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. Is the car all packed? Yep. Camping gear?

Starting point is 00:38:20 Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Ray for Yieldsdale 101.7 FM Charger basketball. Here at Don Timb, it's 36 to 8, 630 to play. Chargers look like a different basketball team right now. Yeah, they do. You know, if the Timberwolves just want to stop the floodgates now, they are really going to have to take a big stand on defense. They're just getting out hustled right now, and their shots on offense are just big faders that are not going in. And these are shots that I'm sure Northwood is able to make. Getting down into the paint, you can see that is an emphasis with their shooting woes. I don't want to find anything.
Starting point is 00:38:49 We'll see what they decide to go on defense. Inbound goes to McWinney here working on Noah Pruitt back in for the Timberwolves. Left wing, Big Rick, dribble handoff. Finds Woodhams. He's working on Will Young. Finds Big Rick on the block. Big size advantage. Working down low, double comes, spins back away from it, and he's fouled.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Big time athleticism by Big Rick there. We're going to get the foul. He's going to go up tall with that every single time. time, especially with his height advantage. Big Rick, a guy who is used to being double-teamed in this league. He had one of the biggest players I've seen, at least in the games I've called. And you saw that double team come from the middle. He spins back baseline away from it, gets filed.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Big Rick, not a bad free throw shooter for the Chargers. First one's up and no good. Might have jinged him there, but he shoots it at about a 70% rate. So not a terrible shooter for a big guy. Like we said, he can shoot the three ball a little bit too. So see if the second shot has a store from the charity stripe. It's up and no good. Rebound cleared away there by Will Young.
Starting point is 00:39:48 Noah Pruitt, top of the key. Six to play, 36 to 8 still. Finds Will Young here working on Woodham's on the right wing. Screen coming from Morgan, he slips it, driving in the middle of Young. He'll take a step back mid-range, won't go off the rim, clear by Bolty. Just not falling right now. They're going to have to step back and get in their rhythm. Maybe take a few wide-open lay-ups that they can find him.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Pass down low there by Woodham's to Bolty. He went up for the dunk blocked, but he's fouled. Great pass there by Woodham's. And it's just everything is open right now for the charges And they are not afraid to pass it one more Very unselfish And they're making the shots that they have Well, especially just because they're making them right now
Starting point is 00:40:25 And I think sometimes when your team is shooting really well And they're finding their open buckets It makes you want to pass more and find that open guy Instead of doing everything yourself Yeah, for sure And the charges don't really have that number one guy on offense So they're not afraid of swinging around Boltie's first one is up and good
Starting point is 00:40:37 He shoots it at about a 70% rate as well So pretty good free throw shooter Not many attempts, Boltey, a defensive specialist in there to get some rebounds and play some defense. So had a good look there that was blocked, but fouled. Second one for Boltie's also up in pure. 38 to 8 now, lead up to 20, almost at its highest peak again. Want to see what they change up here if they're going to keep with the same and try and find that mid-range shot. On the left wing here, swinging it around, finds Andrew Smith.
Starting point is 00:41:05 Back to Pruitt on the left wing. Finds Morgan drives middle on Big Rick, trying to find a hook shot. Turn around. Left hand. Let's see if that ignites something. I mean, when you get your first points in a while, sometimes they can start your offense up. You start getting in that flow.
Starting point is 00:41:18 Big shot there by Morgan. Your score 38 to 10 here. Just over 5 to play. McWinney on the left wing. Finds Boltey back door cut. Lay up good. Great cut there by Boltey and the leads back up to 20. Those back cuts are just wide open right now.
Starting point is 00:41:32 Caught the Timberwolf sleeping a little bit there. Excuse me, the lead is back up to 30 now, 40 to 10. On the right wing, Will Young, finding Watson here working on Bolte on the high block. Drives, baseline, spins back middle. No double coming. Gets Boltie to jump, floater off the glass. Good.
Starting point is 00:41:49 This might be their game here. They can keep getting those jumps from the Charger defense. You're going to be able to find some good clean looks. 40 to 12 here, 44, 44 to play in this first half. McWinney working on the screen, drives middle. Trying to find something Woodham's back up top, top of the key. Driving baseline, working on Young. Finds big, Rick.
Starting point is 00:42:08 He'll fake the dribble handoff on the block. Now he'll go to work. expect the double to come it doesn't big rick working on morgan has all the time five in the chuck luck stripped away good play by morgan wow he was able to get that one out there looks like rick rick wanted a call there not going to get it pruitt there on the left wing screen here by morgan they'll get it to him working on mcwini mcwinnie goes to steel kick out corner three ball won't go cleared away by big rick you've got to find that as the timber wolves right there a wide open quarter three got to knock it down Andrew smith not able to find one there bison working on smith coming back the other one
Starting point is 00:42:41 in the mid-range. What a pass. Big Rick down low stolen away by Watson. Just fumbled it a little bit. If he gets a hold of that, that might be a big slam home. Big steel by Watson, 40 to 12 here. Chargers still up big in this first half. Morgan swings it over to Pruitt working on McWinney. He drives middle foul there. McWinney going for the wraparound steel, can't get it. Tough defense there. Still 40 to 12 here. Going to take us to immediate timeout. Listen to radio for yields out 101.1.1.7 FM Charger basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. list with Janice Dean. A Utah man who rescued his brother in an avalanche makes today's Dean's list.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Hunter and Braden Hansen were skiing on a snowy hillside when suddenly an incredible mountain of snow started falling and buried Hunter. He says it took seconds for the snow to fall on top of him like concrete. He couldn't breathe or move. Braden couldn't believe what was happening before his own eyes, but he reacted quickly activating a special avalanche beacon, which was able to pinpoint his brain. brother's location underneath all of the snow. Miraculously, Hunter's glove poked out of the snow, and he was able to wave in hopes of alerting someone. By the time his brother got to him, Hunter was
Starting point is 00:43:52 under two feet of snow. Braden was then able to clear the snow around his brother's head, take off his helmet, so that he could breathe. Hunter says he will never forget what his brother did and told him he was on his last breath before being rescued. He feels very blessed to be alive. Janisteen, Fox News. Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Radio Freehildo 101.7 FM Charger basketball 40 to 12 here, 3.42 to play. I know it looks bleak for the Timberwolves, but what was going right on those couple buckets they were able to get consecutively?
Starting point is 00:44:24 It looks like they stayed with their game that they started from the beginning, and now they're just falling here. I mean, a few missed threes here and there, but when they're making those mid-range floaters that are stepping back, if they're drain them, that might be their game. And if they can stick with it, maybe they can shop down this lead a little bit by a little bit. Yeah, definitely interesting to see their two. Six, seven forwards are their main focus on offense. Morgan and Watson, they get the ball down on the block.
Starting point is 00:44:47 Almost every possession. So, baseline out of bounds here for Pruitt, see if they can keep the scoring going. 3.42 to play. Up top, Watson, oh my goodness. A lob off the inbound to Watson. He skies up and dunks at home. There's something you don't expect there. Just blindside of the defender there and was able to rise up and slam it down.
Starting point is 00:45:05 40 to 14 now. Chargers still up. Ruter drives baseline, and he's fouled. That was an unbelievable play. How do you even look at someone and just know that you're going to lob that up and they can go get that? Yeah, you could tell that they wanted to get to Watson or Morgan, but they were able to just get a back cut there and just throw it to the sky, and Watson found it.
Starting point is 00:45:24 Could be the spark they need, 40 to 14 here. Laced on our bounce for the chargers off the foul there. That's going to be the third one on Willie Young. Janowski, Servang, finds Logan Beeson in the corner. He'll take the contested three ball, tough one cleared away there by Morgan. Close shot there. There's a great close out there by Morgan. Coming back the other way, Pruitt.
Starting point is 00:45:44 Working on Janowski, 40 to 14, 3, 15 to play. Down low to Morgan, stolen away by Rooter. Helpside defense there to save the day. Ruter back the other way. Working on Eklund in the mid-range, 24 on the shot clock. Coming off the screen, Logan Beeson. Finds CJ Uri in top of the key. Back cut from Janowski layup, floats it off the glass.
Starting point is 00:46:09 How does he get that in? High off the glass is good. 42.14 now. Chargers clawing back that lead they had. Morgan finds Eklund. Working on. Routre top the key. Find Morgan again on that left wing.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Drives middle, spins back baseline, up and under, trying to work on the area and can't find anything cleared away by Bolte. Wanted a foul and get it. Holti back the other way. He's angry and he gets the steel off of it out of bounds. Clearly frustrated after that play. Just can sense frustration from the Timberwolves. as a whole nothing they're throwing up seems to be going down right now if they keep with it
Starting point is 00:46:43 hopefully a few more can knock down and then get their offense rolling 42 14 here and a player we haven't seen for the chargers i believe he's injured as mike mccallon we mentioned them uh but logan bison's done a great job filling that three and d roll for them 2 30 to play here chargers up big 42 14 Logan bison on the right wing trying to find something 17 on the shot clock finds genowski back on the right wing jenowski finds yerry in top of the key corner woodham's three ball won't go. Rebounds tipped up, tipped around, still loose, tipped around by Ehrian, cleared away by Ruder. Beeson, three ball, deep one won't go.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Yerian hustling for the rebound, cleared away by Morgan. Huge hustle by the charges there to get their offensive rebound, and although it didn't fall, that's something that you're going to look at. Instead, they're going to show that they're going to get those points. Andrew Smith down low to Watson, crazy layup, won't go, cleared away by Yerian. Yerian dribbling up here, Feinzionowski, charges will take their time here. 42-14 with a minute 40 to play in this first half trying to find a post-touch
Starting point is 00:47:44 Ruter says I'll take it myself tough drive right-hand layup good working on Morgan 44 14 now beautiful layup there we'll split the defense get home Watson here on the left wing guarded once again by Ruter top of the key finds Smith swings it over finds shamray here trying to find something tipped away by Yerian 13 on the shot clock shamray guardedly tight by Swings to the corner. Eklund. Trying to find a three-kant, great defense by Beeson. Morgan will take it to the cup. Tough finish. Won't go.
Starting point is 00:48:15 Trying to find the open layup there. Can't. Chargers have numbers. Woodham's in transition. Tough take. Right-hand layup blocked away by Echlin. And the Timberl also reset after that series. 44-14, just under a minute to play. Andrew Smith swings it over here to Shamray. He's driving on Wudham's kicks-it to Watson, working on Rootter.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Jab, three-pointer, good, pure. Watson with a huge shot. He's been a spark here at the end of this first half, 44-17 now. Could they be clawed back? Timberwolves have to keep up their energy here. Can't give up on a game. It's not even half-time yet, so they definitely have a chance to make this a game. Chargers is going to take their time.
Starting point is 00:48:56 Shot clock's turned off. They're going to talk about it here. I think they ran the clock while the ball was still rolling. Can't do that. Chargers is trying to get a little, get away with something. here to get that last shot go with all the momentum, even though they have a lot of it right now. A couple big plays by Watson. We mentioned him at the top of the hour, Elijah Watson. 14 points a game. Great player.
Starting point is 00:49:19 Had that insane dunk and then working on Rutterer-Ru-Ru-Expecting him or drive. It's a little pump-fake three ball. And that might be their guy that can do it all. And if you lead your offense with him at the center there, there's something where maybe they could get together and start climbing back with getting some points up. Yeah, for sure. And a player that has struggled just a little bit here for Northwood early is J.T. Morgan. He's had a couple of good looks at layups, trying to get down low.
Starting point is 00:49:41 But at only 6'7 being that other big guy, they kind of run a two big man's system with him and Watson. He's guarded by either Big Rick or Yerian or Glazer, while Elijah Watson, the more athletic for, were guarded by Router. So definitely makes it tough for him when he wants to get those layups, and he's guarded by someone that's three, four inches taller than him. And when you see him go up with that shot and he has to start fading back a little bit to put it up, you know, those are just tough shots to make, especially with someone in your face right there. Those are not easy.
Starting point is 00:50:09 Yeah, the charges with a great game plan, like you said with that. It doesn't look like the Timberwolves, excuse me, like to find much with their guards. It's all centered around those two big men averaging 14 points and J.T. Morrigan averaging 9. They love that little big man offense. And one thing to note, their second leading score, Will Young, with three files here. And he's a guy that can really shoot it for him, shooting the three ball at almost a 40% rate. He's taken almost 110 of them. So he's a guy that when you're down like this, you need a spark.
Starting point is 00:50:38 You need someone to make some threes. And with three fouls, that's tough for him. Yeah, you got to keep him out if you want any chance, so you can preserve him for hopefully later portions of the game where maybe a comeback can be brewing. It's definitely interesting here as they're still trying to work out the clock, talking to coach Kevin Bradley. But it's definitely interesting to see if Northwood prefers that zone or that man
Starting point is 00:50:57 because both, I mean, the charges are just scoring at will, almost on pace for 100 points, which is rare for them. They're typically a great offensive team, but even when they shoot well, like against Kentucky Wesley and Ann went into overtime, they only scored 93 points. And I think it was just a rough start with that zone. I'm curious to see if they might bring it back and maybe if they play a little bit more aggressive with their aggressive close-out zone that they were doing before bringing men up,
Starting point is 00:51:18 double-teaming at the wing. Maybe they can find something here to stop this charger offense. Yeah, for sure. It seemed like when they extended that zone, that was their best defense so far. They were able to force a couple turnovers, and turnovers are going to be the big key if they want to come back, get some fast break buckets because I don't think they have any fast break points. No, not that I recall. It seems that it's all just been from the top of the key.
Starting point is 00:51:37 And for the Chargers, though, I mean, they are scoring at Will. Transitionally, they're just finding the guy that's open from three, and they are knocking them down. Yeah, it's so tough because they sit in that laid-back zone, try to match up, that 2-3 that's a little bit more lax. Chargers hit three balls. You extend that zone out. Great cuts by Garrett Bullty, Charles Woodhams.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Everyone can finish on this Chargers team. Their guards are big. They're down low. They have the size advantage. So they love to cut backdoor. It's been a stable since I've been here, the backdoor cut. So that's what works so well. If they're able to kind of control that with that extended zone, it could be a difference.
Starting point is 00:52:11 Yeah, it seems like either way it's a little bit of a double-edged sword. You're going to give up something with this charger offense. Usually what we see here is that they let them take a few of those open threes. Chargers might get in a little bit of a shooting slump as we've seen over the past few weeks. Has it happened tonight, though. Inbound goes. Last shot will go to the Chargers. 23 seconds here, 44-17 before halftime.
Starting point is 00:52:31 Woodham's top of the key. working on Eklund finds Janowski. Chargers taking their time here. On the logo, Janowski working on swings it over. Woodham's top of the key. Back to Janowski. What a move.
Starting point is 00:52:44 Lay up wide open, good. And as much as momentum you need, now it's just going to go right back to the chargers. And Northwood can't even get the inbound in. 46, 17 here at half out of the Janowski layup. It's going to take us to the half. You listen to Radio for Eelsville. 101.1.7 FM charger basketball on 40.
Starting point is 00:53:01 I'm Ryan. Hello. and welcome back. You're listening to Radio for Eels. 1.1.7 FM Charger basketball. 4617. Chargers up big here. What the Timberl's got to do to at least try to cut into this lead and then see what happens? Got to work on their turnovers right now.
Starting point is 00:53:23 It just feels like the charges are just taking everything from them. And I also said they've got to get some steals themselves. I mean, I don't know if we've seen a steal yet, maybe a few from them. They average about six a game. We're just not seeing that here. They're not swiping for the ball. It doesn't seem like they're that aggressive. They're trying to cover up their man when they're on their man defense.
Starting point is 00:53:37 but it just doesn't seem like anything's fallen for them and they just can't lock up all those back cuts. Chargers offense is humming today. They have been swinging the ball, like you said, back cuts, flare screens, everything. When the Chargers play like this, we mentioned at the top of the hour that they are just so good
Starting point is 00:53:55 because everyone can shoot on this team and they have size. It's such a difference maker. And that's starting to kind of come into fruition here on a Saturday in the GMAC, one of the last home games for the Chargers. senior night pretty exciting for these guys to kind of go out like this yeah and you know joe ruders had a day cole's had a day uh woodhams had some good cuts and everything like that the seniors are playing
Starting point is 00:54:18 well but i just think this whole team right now just has a chemistry that just cannot be beat i'm wondering what the timber wolves are going to do to try and combat this right now because everything they've tried so far is just not worked and they're doing it without mikey mccallin who like we said is there six man but he's a great three-point shooter would love to play against the zone i'm sure averages 12 a game third-leaning score as a sophomore from Ohio and you know even without him you're shooting this well that's that's a great look for the chargers oh yeah for sure I mean they're just playing lights out ball right now it almost seems like it's just shooting practice out there with the percentages that they're hitting right now I'm just wondering how the timber world is going to come
Starting point is 00:54:54 out and combat that without just giving out the wide open paint and in the one defense because they've ran just about everything else that we haven't seen as any press we haven't seen them guard full court and their only guy in foul trouble is will young and they have a pretty deep rotation it's not like the same five guys have been playing we haven't really seen eliza watson or j t morgan come out much because that's that's pretty much all their size you look to their bench and jordan rogers who checked in for a bit six six six and then nick ellis at six eight but even those guys aren't the heaviest players and then uh junior ethan dunn who doesn't play much but he is six 10 so when you're down this big you have to mix something up so
Starting point is 00:55:32 interesting to see what the Timberlis has and if you're the Chargers, why makes anything up right now? No, everything's working. And I got to say, with that full court press that you're mentioning, I do remember in that Finley game, last time we were here at Don Tibbitts, that full court press gave the Chargers some trouble. It did, it messed them up a little bit. They weren't able to play their game as smooth as they are right now.
Starting point is 00:55:50 So I do think implementing something like that may be able to mix something up, but you have to change something. And the Chargers, just keep on chugging. This game almost seems like it's wraps, but you can't have that attitude right now. Yeah, great point. If you're the Chargers, you have a big lead. You're playing on senior day.
Starting point is 00:56:04 This stadium is rocking, but you have to take it one possession at a time. Get those open looks. Don't force anything because you're feeling good the way you're shooting. Find those open baskets. Keep passing the ball around in. They should walk away with another G-Mack win. We're underway here in the second half inbound goes in to Shamaray. Swings it around there to Andrew Smith.
Starting point is 00:56:26 We got an early foul call here. It's going to be Logan Beeson on the cut guarding Eklin there. and it came off a screen and Beeson got a piece of them. 46, 17, 9.53 to play in this ball game. Inbound goes to Shamray. Finds Watson working on Ruter. Backing him down. Tries back baseline.
Starting point is 00:56:46 Has nothing. Ruter's hand straight up. Find Smith. Back to Watson, top of the key 15 on the shot clock. Swings it to Smith in the corner. He drives middle. Back and down, Janowski with a size advantage. Swings it out to Morgon in the corner.
Starting point is 00:56:57 Eight on the shot clock driving on Big Rick. Spings back baseline. Top block. tough shot blocked away by Radissovich Janowski in transition finds Rooter he pumps doesn't take the open three swings it over to Beeson on the left wing Woodham's top of the key here for the Chargers
Starting point is 00:57:12 Corner Janowski three ball won't go cleared away by Morgan looks like that Northwood's offense didn't really change much I saw the same thing there they're going to try and drive pump a fade away and then pop out and the next cow try the same thing here it is Watson doing again Watson driving here on Woodham's on the baseline finding the cutter there Shamray just kind of shovels
Starting point is 00:57:31 one out of bounds there. Going to see what's off of it looks like it's going to be off of him. Looking for a foul there. Woodham's guarding him closely on the cut, but just kind of shoveled one out of bounds. Yeah, and it looks like that's Watson's game right there is to just try and back down his defender and either take a fade away jump shot midrange there or to back him down into the post. But it just isn't working. This Hillsdale team is too physical right now.
Starting point is 00:57:50 Defense stays in the half court man for the Timberwolves, root her on the left wing here. Trying to find Big Rick he does. Working on Nick Ellis. Back him down on the block. Spins baseline. Can't find anything tough. Right-hand floater won't go. Rebound cleared away there by Smith. The rules defense starting out hot getting a few stops there. Playing Nick Ellis, the 6-8 junior from Grand Ledge, Michigan. Shamray. Finding Watson here working on Ruder once again, 19 on the shot clock on the right wing.
Starting point is 00:58:18 Swings to Eklund. He pumps. Swings it over. Smith, one more. Shamray, corner, three ball, good. A straight shot goes right in there, pure. Open in the second half here, 46 to 20, 18, 20 to play. Chargers yet to score in this half. Janowski trying to get things going. Finds Beeson in the corner to Woodhams. Janowski coming off the double screen, can't find anything.
Starting point is 00:58:40 Woodham's still with the ball on the left wing, finds Big Rick. Swinging around the horn here. They're going to get a foul. They wanted a moving screen. You can hear Coach yelling about it on Rutter, but just kind of got in the way, and then they got a hold of Woodham's on the back cut. Yeah, and it just looks like the Hillsdale offense,
Starting point is 00:58:54 obviously slowing things down a little bit. They're going to try and get most of this clock off as they can. but right now the shots aren't going maybe the timbrel's have found something to stop to hold them for a little bit baseline inbound goes to jennowsky in the left wing 17 on the shot clock ruder on the right wing trying to find something here working on watson in the mid range guarded by ecklin now drives baseline spins back middle tough move and he's fouled timbrel's not happy about it ruder was kind of getting hoarse the whole play there yeah could see if the fall down was a little bit of an acting work by joe but they could have called it at any point on He just kind of had his hands on there pretty much the whole possession.
Starting point is 00:59:34 Baseline inbound here. Woodham's with the ball. 4620 here, 1751. Corner ball goes to Beeson back up top Big Rick. He'll find Woodhams. Coming off the screen from Big Rick, working on Ecklin. Good move and a foul again by Ecklin. That's going to be his third, I believe.
Starting point is 00:59:48 Wow. And, you know, they're definitely playing tighter and more aggressive here, but these reps aren't anything get by. Just results in another foul. Yeah, it's tough. Like you said, you want to get those turnover. but third foul on Eklund, one of their wings, and they're going to have to check in. Will Young, the man we mentioned, who can really shoot it when he gets hot, but also has three fouls.
Starting point is 01:00:08 Yeah, so I wonder how you play it right now as the Timberwolves, or do you just throw caution to the win and let him play? Five and you're out of there. Inbound goes to Big Rick. Top of the key, Woodham swings it to Root around the right wing, 15 on the shot clock. He's trying to get a post touch to Big Rick. Working again on Ellis. Big Rick, surveys, finds Janowski in the corner screen from Big Rick. Working. Missmatch here on Watson.
Starting point is 01:00:28 Big Rick will go. No double team. shot right wing good able to use plenty of that clock there charges offense is going to be a little slow and tame but they're still going to find their open shots especially with that height advantage easy floater falls for the chargers 48 20 here 17 to play young back in swings it to Watson on left wing working on rudder 15 on the shot clock screen from Ellis step back three watson good oh my that could be their game going on from now that's two in a row that they're going to make from three wonder how the hillsdale chargers are going to respond here 48 23
Starting point is 01:01:00 17 to play. Big Rick on the left wing coming back to the other way for the Chargers. Ruter looking in the corner for a three ball. Going to go to work here on Watson, back on him. On the block. Fade away, Router, off the class. A little bit of Timberwolves own medicine there with a little fading mid-range shot. Off the glass from Router. Absolute class.
Starting point is 01:01:20 50 to 23 here. Young, great bounce past to Ellis, kiss it to the corner. Shamray three ball, good, and that's the third in a row. That's going to be nine points straight from three. You know, Chargers at some point are going to get out there and start covering that. 50 to 26 here. Offense coming. Router will take the pull-up three.
Starting point is 01:01:37 Feeling it won't go. Rebound cleared away there by Young. He finds Shamray 50 to 26 here now, 16 to play in this game. Shamray guarded by Woodham's high screen from Ellis, kicks up to the corner to Watson. Back to Ellis, great cut. Layup, good. This charger defense has opened up now, now trying to defend the three. So an easy layup for the Timberwolves.
Starting point is 01:01:55 50 to 28 now, a little bit of a run from the Timberwolves. 16 to play. Janowski trying to get things. going for the offense 20 on the shot clock finds woodham's on the left wing back up top to rudder working on shamray guarded closely finds radisovitch down low the big physical guard woodham's on the block drives baseline spins back middle still working fade away mid range rolls around won't go tipped around by big rig cleared by shamray seems like the past past few possessions here that the two offenses almost switched rolls here chargers trying to get a bucket of year shamray back the
Starting point is 01:02:27 the other way pull up three ball trying to make a three in a row can't cleared away by Rooter. Still an open look. I don't hate that shot. Janowski back the other way with numbers driving on Watson. Kick out. Big Rick pumps the three ball, doesn't take it. Chargers slowing things down as we mentioned finds. Fakes the handoff there. Working on Ellis,
Starting point is 01:02:44 Big Rick on the block here. No double in sight. Down low. Big Rick. His hook shot won't go. Rebound Woodham's. Down low. Working. Layup won't go. Tipped around again. Woodham's fighting for it. Out of bounds. And it's off the Timberwolves. Great effort there.
Starting point is 01:03:00 It's going to take us to a immediate timeout. You listen to Radio Free Hillsdale, 101.7 FM. Charge your basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. This should change people's lives. WRFH is your station for the Dennis Prager Show. I mean, it's not enough to know that this is an issue. We have to do something about it.

Starting point is 01:04:04 values of educational athletics. Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Radio Freeholds about 101.7 FM Charger basketball, 50 to 28-50 to play in the second half. Nice little run from Timberwolves were always going for them. Yeah, I'm impressed. And like I said before, it looks like the offenses have just switched their game right now. Timberwolves are taking their open threes, nailed three in a row. And the Chargers right now are playing inside trying to get their fadeaway looks to go,
Starting point is 01:04:27 and now they're struggling. It almost looks like a flip of fortunes. Yeah, for sure. And I think that the Chargers are kind of playing not to lose at the start of the second half. I think if they keep going, swinging the ball, taking those three-pointers, not afraid to, they'll be able to find something. But early in this second half, it looks like they're, like I said, playing not to lose, not playing to win. And I wonder how their coach feels about that. Is that something you tell them, or is that just something a player does naturally? Chargers here with the baseline
Starting point is 01:04:52 inbound. McWenney able to shovel one back to boltie. Swings it, right wing, Yerian, also in for the Chargers, finds Ruder in the corner working on Young. Eight on the shot clock. Backdoor cut. McWenney, fade away mid-range won't go that shot a lot more open a lot more what the heart what the charges offense has been throughout the day although he missed it open shot Eliza watson back the other way shamray swings it to watson working on boltie guarding him closely drive step back gonna call a hand there on bolty that's rare you see you call that normally let him play a little bit ref's gonna call it first one there on bolty 50 to 28 here you see that the charge of defense like you mentioned they do have to extend more because those threes are falling
Starting point is 01:05:32 Yeah, and we're going to see how that works out for them. Obviously from the first half, Timberwolves couldn't seem to knock down any threes, but as they started getting their flow state, let me see if that stays. Shamray gets it inbound, trying to find what he finds Ellis down low, tipped around, tipped by Router, and it's going to be off of Young, trying to find a backdoor cut. Router defends it well, and it's off the shoulder of Young. A little bit of a sloppy possession there by the Timberwolves.
Starting point is 01:05:56 You have to clean that up if they want any chance to start crawling back. We mentioned who's going to play in this second half. It's been Nick Ellis over J.T. Morgan, who we really haven't seen. in the second half. A little bit more size guarding the bigs of chargers. Backdoor cut by Boltey. Great fine by Yerian. Good for Bolte. 52, 28 now. Chargers up big still. 14 to play in the second half. Smith on the wing guarded by McWinney. Fines Watson on Bolte drives baseline. Tough take. Dish down to Ellis. Layup good. What a fine mid-air by Watson there.
Starting point is 01:06:30 Great pass. Able to get the layup up and fly up. Rue 50 to 30 now. Yarian working on the left wing, finds Bolte in the corner. He's had a couple of backdoor cuts working on Watson. They're giving them the three, won't take it. Yarian, finding in the corner, Woodham's back to Ruter, tipped around by Shamray. Ten on the shot clock now.
Starting point is 01:06:50 Chargers have to go. Trying to find a post-touch. Boltie's going to drive middle. Spin back, tough fadeaway shot from Boltee. Good. Wow. Heck of a game from Garrett Boltee tonight. 5, 4.30.
Starting point is 01:07:01 normally not an offensive threat and he's found it today. A spitting fadeaway shot right there in the mid-range. Just a pure shot that he was able to knock down. Great defender for the Chargers. He's done it all tonight. Will Young on the left wing working on Rooters 17 on the shot clock. In the mid-range, step back, mid-range, tough shot. Young makes it.
Starting point is 01:07:18 We talked about him being able to hit those shots he does. It seems like that's what they need at all game. Happening a little late now, but we're not going to count this game out. 54, 32, 13 to play, Chargers. Once again, taking the time on offense. Backdoor cut there by McWin. Legal screen. We're going to get an illegal one there on Yerian.
Starting point is 01:07:38 Full lineup sub here for the Timberwolves. That unit that they had, though, did play well. The guy to look out for, like we said, Nick Ellis 6-8-215. He did a great job defensively and provided them with some size down low on offense. I'm wondering why they would take him out after that mid-range he just found earlier.
Starting point is 01:07:56 I was going to take out Young who did just make that other bucket chargers here. With their reserves in as well, besides Charles Woodham's the only starter in. Eklim working on, Boltey, finds Young at the top of the key, swings it over to Jordan Rogers, who we haven't seen much of. Pruitt, working on McWinney. 14 on the shot clock drives, middle, step back. Trying to find something.
Starting point is 01:08:18 Finds Young. He'll drive, baseline, tough take. Good, no. Great defense by Glazer on the help side. Layup is no good. Chargers back the other way with numbers. McWinney in the mid-range, finds Woodham's on the right wing. trying to survey McWenny on the right wing
Starting point is 01:08:32 he'll drive baseline on Pruitt great take and he's fouled great take by McWenny normally a guy that stays out of the paint due to his size but after that game in Kentucky Wesley and the confidence from him has been great to see yeah and I mean he's already had a great game so far and why not let's get aggressive let's try and make some easy layups here with our little guys and get some fouls called yeah great finish attempt there but he was fouled by Pruitt two shots here from McWenny
Starting point is 01:08:57 a guy that doesn't take many free throws only 14 on the year but he's 71% first one is up and good off the front of the rim 55 32 now 1222 and the chargers have just methodically kept that lead and at what point like when does desperation start to set in for the Timberwolves as it started now when do you start jacking up some threes that maybe you wouldn't at the beginning of the game got to do something to get back in yeah still no press or pressure defense really from the Timberwolves second one is up and pure from the charity strike for McWinney 56 32 1220 to play starting to run out of time for the Timberwolves.
Starting point is 01:09:30 Pruitt finds Young at the top of the key, swinging around to Rogers. Back to Pruitt getting in their offense. Green from Morgan, who we see for the first time. Step back Pruitt, driving baseline. McWenney trying to get one of his own. Tough lamp, good. Take that by himself. Big response there by Pruitt, and here comes a little pressure,
Starting point is 01:09:46 full court from the Timberwolves. McWenny driving baseline. Gets a past half court with 24 on the shot clock. Finds Glazer on the left wing. Back up top, can't find anybody. He finds Logan Beeson here. He's going to get a screen from Glacin. Laser Drive baseline. Surveing finds McWinney on the left wing.
Starting point is 01:10:03 Glazer down low. Tough defense by Morgan and a foul. McWitty here are going to be a little aggressive. I mean, it's not often for him to have the height advantage on his guy. Yeah, definitely for sure. Let's take us to our first media timeout. Listen to Radio Freehills. I'm 101.7 FM. Charge your basketball. I'm Gordie. I'm Brian. I'm Michelle Polino. Jellyroll is making big strides in his fitness journey. The country star told E-News at a Super Bowl party that he recently height, Arizona's Camelback Mountain, something he never could have done before losing weight.

Now he's aiming for the cover of men's health by March of 2026, calling it his next big goal. Both Brian and Gillis are huge Philadelphia Eagles fans. Brian even promised and delivered a new song, Dear Miss, following the Eagles Super Bowl win. That's Fox Country on Fox News. Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Ready for Realzo 101.1.7 FM Charger basketball, 56 to 34 here, and vibes are. high in a snowy Hillsdale Saturday night. What did the Timberwolves have to do? Like we said, they just seem lackadaisical down as much they are. Yeah, I mean, they've cut it down from a 30-point lead
Starting point is 01:11:41 to a 28, what are the 28? Yeah, 28 at this point and 22. 22, sorry, 56, 34. And I mean, they've cut the lead, but they're going to have to do more here. Baseline out of bounds, goes into Boltey, right-wing McWinney, trying to find Glazer he does. Started tightly by Morgan, backing them down spins baseline tough floater defense by morgan's bats it away cleared away by pruitt see if they start shoveling up some more shots here it may not be the best but they got to get something going fast pruitt with the screen from morgan he's got at the top of the key finds martin finding young passing it down tipped away by ruders stolen by mcwini it's not a smart play there ruder in transition here driving baseline tough taking he's fouled i think that's going to be the fourth on young who seems to be
Starting point is 01:12:29 guy that's not afraid to take shots that are tough, but also make them. Looks like Nick Ellis is going to check back in. He's done a heck of a job for them down low. But like I said, there's not a lot of volume three-point shooters on this team for the Timberwolves. And when you go down this big, it hurts you. You know, they had that 9-0 run at one point with their threes, but since then they're just not really looking for them. They're still playing the inside game and they're still taking some mid-ranges
Starting point is 01:12:52 that, you know, may not be the best shot at this point in the game. 57-34 Luter's first one's up and good. and to the line after that take and the two guys that were able to make the tough threes Watson who has two of them is on the bench as well and the other player Sari is Shamre who also made
Starting point is 01:13:10 I believe three at this point not in the game so 11 minutes to play 5734 Router with a second chance at the line here on senior night up and off the rim and no good Glazer bats it around and they're going to get over the back he's pretty
Starting point is 01:13:27 aggressive player and that's not an unusual call for him but he's going to hustle for those rebounds got a called for one there yeah and that one was a 50-50 call in my opinion we wasn't egregiously holding over his back it looked like it was pretty vertical but refs saw enough to make the call there 57 34 11 to play pruitt coming back the other way guarded by mcwitty equlin top of the key on bolt swinging around smith back to the corner to pruitt screen coming from ellis hedged by glazer pruett swings it to the corner finds martin working on rotor jabst step drives the middle. Backing them down here in the mid range once again. Tipped around. Ball goes out to Pruitt 9 on the shot clock. Timberls have to go. Pruitt working on Ruter drives middle. Hop step.
Starting point is 01:14:08 Ball's tipped around. Still loose. Stolen away by Glazer runs into McWenny and now they're in transition. McWinney looking for something here. Can't find anything on the left wing here down low. Glazer trying to find the advantage on Pruitt has it. Double comes. And the foul there. Pruitt with a huge size disadvantage and has to just foul at that point. And that's a smart choice for him. And I will say, as much as we're saying that the Timberwolves need to find some threes and get something up, this Hildell defense is just on them. I mean, they can't find a shot even slightly open.
Starting point is 01:14:36 Speaking of three-pointers, the two guys that have that 9-0 run, Shamray and Watson check back in with 1032 to play. Glazer to the line for the one-in-one here. Not their best free-throw shooter. Only he has 36 attempts, 66% for the big man. First one is up and good. Great shot there. able to knock that one through. Caleb Glazer, that third big man in rotation, the smallest of them, but he's got the most energy. Great player, the 6-8 sophomore from Appleton, Wisconsin.
Starting point is 01:15:08 Alton East High School. He's going to knock down two there. 59, 34, 10, 30 to play. Two rules, as you said, brought in their three-point shooters. Let's see if they're going to focus on the outside here. Smith on the left wing, 22 on the shot clock, finds Shamray, up top, guarded closely by McWinney. Looking for something here. Swings it over to Watson on the right wing. Finds Eklund down low, working on Router. Trying to find something. Ruter, tough defense.
Starting point is 01:15:33 Eklund, up and good with the left hand once again. 59, 36 now, 10 to play. Beeson on the left wing. Initiates the charger, offense, glazer, top of the key. Root finding, Boltey, excuse me, driving. Block. Wow, great job there by Eklund after he made that tough layup to stand in there and take a shoulder from Bolte, but he was moving.
Starting point is 01:15:54 Once he got another 50-50 call. down here near the baseline. Could have went either way. I do agree with the ref, though. It looks like he was just instill in his motion before he set. Yeah, tough call there. Bulte's going to get a chance for one plus to the bonus if he makes. That Bulte, who normally not an offensive player for the Chargers,
Starting point is 01:16:10 does a great job checking in playing defense, getting rebounds, but he's really been a difference on offense for them, back cuts, and then that nice fadeaway midrange. He's been able to make it down low, and a lot of times that just comes from what it looks like, just the power to be able to take a power step, a power dribble, and then shovel it. up there. First one's up and no good cleared away by Shamray. He'll come back the other way,
Starting point is 01:16:30 22 on the shot clock. Finds Eklin, driving on boltie. Trying to find something, reach in there by Beeson and then see who they got the foul on for the shove. I think it might have been bolty. Yeah, that's going to be his second. Checking in for the Timberwolves for the first time, D.B. Ware, the graduate senior, 64, 175 from Muskegan to Michigan. Skegan High School. He could be spark on offense for sure. You bring in these other guys off the bench that might specialize in it. Let's see what they can do. Watson gets the sideline inbound here working on Router.
Starting point is 01:17:04 Driving middle, backs him down. They're going to get another foul there on Router. Ruffs are calling this game strict is what it looks like. Router's not happy about it. Even up 59, 36, and that's just the type of competitor he is. Yeah, he's not going to be happy with it. Seems like he's been defending it the exact same way now, so I want to know.
Starting point is 01:17:20 I'm curious what the refs saw that was different from that defense. Baseline out-of-bound Shamray gets it into Smith. Corner, three ball. Not going to find much there. Rebound cleared away by Janowski in transition. Ruter, three ball. Catch, shoot, won't go, rims out, rebound, skied away by Ellis. Shamray here now in transition 9.30 to play, 59, 36.
Starting point is 01:17:39 Great pass there by Shamray. Ellis bobbles it, gets it back out to Smith in the mid-range. Working on Beeson trying to find something. They're going to say he walked with it. Yeah, it was a clear walk there, move his pivot foot over, and just try to get an easy layup there. and said the rest is going to see that calm on it. Andrew Smith there with the travel.
Starting point is 01:17:56 The 6-2 freshman from Farmington Hills, Michigan, Orchard Lake St. Mary's High School. Chargers back the other way here, nine minutes to play. 23 on the shot clock. Woodham's on the left wing, finds Rooder's top of the key working on Watson. He'll take the pull up mid-range. Can't give him that much space and it's good. Vintage Joe Ruter right there. That's his game.
Starting point is 01:18:14 Give him a little too much space. He'll pop one, right your face. 61.36 now. Chargers slowly getting that lead back up to 30. Watson on the left wing working on Ruter. 22 on the shot clock screen from Ellis hedged there by Glazer. He gets back Watson working on Ruder. These two going out at the last two possession.
Starting point is 01:18:29 Step back, Watson won't go, rebound, Woodhams. Tries to do exactly what Joe Ruter just did to him, but it's not going to go. Great, fine. Glazer to the cup, Dunker Roo. What a fine there by Woodhams to the athletic Glazer, and he slams one home. Glazer just has that fight and that violence to slam at home there. Great finish there on the cut, 63.36 now with 8.30 to play. step back three from shamray won't go rudder clears it in transition woodham's on senior night he'll dunk one home two back to back for the chargers two dunks in a row and a timeout is warranted 6536 here you're listening to radio for eelsdale 101.7 fm charger basketball i'm gordon i'm

Starting point is 01:20:03 A message from the Michigan High School Athletic Association, promoting the value and values of educational athletics. Hello and welcome back to Don Tebitts Potter Arena. You're listening to Radio Freehils out 101.1.7 FM Charger Basketball, 65, 36. And it's a dung party here on a Saturday afternoon. Back to back. Don't see that much from the chargers, but when you do, No, it's because they're confident in their game right now.
Starting point is 01:20:29 Timberoles have got to start shooting up something with their threes if they want any chance in the last eight minutes here. Yeah, looking bleak here. A couple subs in for both teams, but we'll see how this one closes out. Great to see the senior Charles Woodham's with the dunk. 65, 36, 8 to play. Shamray back the other way, finds Morgan. Working on Janowski drives middle download to Ellis working on Router.
Starting point is 01:20:51 18 on the shot clock. Backing them down on the block. Great defense by Router. Has to take a tough fading. Midrange won't go cleared away by Bay. Rick. It's not going to be their game unless they've already conceded in their heads and they're just playing some basketball out for the last seven minutes. Janowski on the right wing back to the way Chargers staying locked in here. Woodhams. He'll take the open Shray ball on senior night won't go cleared away by Ellis. A little bit a nice touch. Sham Ray here. Love to see those seniors for the chargers that have committed their career so heavily to this team.
Starting point is 01:21:18 Shamray in the midway trying to find something finds Morgan guarded by Janowski right wing Shamray. Swings it to the corner here. Finding D.D. Ware. He'll take a step back three ball. Off the backboard, won't go. Doesn't play much. And not able to knock that one down. Woodham's here. He'll come back the other way for the charges.
Starting point is 01:21:36 He drives, kicks it out to Router in the corner. Trying to find something here. Taking their time, 18 on the shot clock, top of the key, Woodhams. Swings to the corner, Janowski. He loves the mid-range shot, and he'll take it good. That is Janowski's game. You don't see it often from new-age players, but he loves getting to that mid-range, getting his spots, knocking it down.
Starting point is 01:21:58 Right when we thought they were going to slow down their game. Now they're back to it, it looks like. 67-36 now with just under seven to play. Morgan with the ball at the top of the key, finds Watson, again guarded by Rutter's screen from Ellis. Watson will take a tough step back, mid-range. Good. You can see why he averages 14 a night. He's made some tough shots.
Starting point is 01:22:18 67-38 now, 6.30 to play. It looks like that's what he's been trying to make all night. And now they're just starting to fall. Beeson here finding rudder top of the key Chargers in their stall offense here Finding Beeson on the right wing He'll drive baseline pushing off great find Big Rick
Starting point is 01:22:34 Pump fake thought about shooting one there Doesn't driving Janowski Spins back middle taking it Tipped away by Shamry he kicks it out 5 on the shot clock from the logo Logan Beeson oh my goodness He nails it Logan Beeson at the end of the shot clock
Starting point is 01:22:50 A little magic 70 to 38 now You can see also big Rick Wants to take a three right now. He is staying outside there. Shamray back the other way. Finding Morgan Hill Drive baseline. I thought it might have been a push-off. It's not. Morgan shoots one at the end there. Trying to see something go through. Big Rick knocks it out. It's going to take us to immediate timeout. You're listening to Rayleigh Fieldfield 101. 1.01.7 FM Charger basketball.
Starting point is 01:23:12 I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. This is The Making of America from the Jefferson Media Group. The commander of the Confederate Army, Robert E. Lee, was the son of a revolutionary war, hero and husband to the great-granddaughter of George Washington's wife, Martha. He was an outspoken critic of rebellion, but when the war came, he stood beside his heritage as a Virginian and joined the South. General Lee won most of his battles. However, both his incursions into Union territories ended in catastrophic defeats, draining the south of its most valuable resource manpower. His family farm was confiscated.
Starting point is 01:23:59 by Union forces and converted it to a national cemetery called Arlington. This has been the Making of America. I'm Michael Emerson, and you can visit us at jeffersonmediagroup.com. Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Radio Freeholdsville 101.7 FM Charger Basketball, 70 to 38, just under 6 to play. Northwood going to the line here after the foul. Find Janowski on the baseline. And the Chargers, everything's going right.
Starting point is 01:24:31 End of the shocklock, Logan Beeson from the horse head. It drains it. I think at this point, just find your seniors and let them have a night, finish out their time and Don Tibbitts. Yeah, interesting to see if the Chargers go to some of the reserves that don't play much, get them some experience. You never know when you're going to need them, especially in the playoffs for the Chargers.
Starting point is 01:24:48 To the line, Morgan's first one's up, and no good with the bonus. So Rutter will clear it, and Janowski's going to take his time here. 5.50 to play 70 to 38. Chargers making a statement here. Rick down low on the block Working on Morgan's size advantage Spin back lay up good
Starting point is 01:25:06 Just too big Yeah that's exactly what I was about to say It's all size advantage there and he just dominated down low The senior getting a great look there on the smaller Morgan 72 38 now Chargers have taken the lead and not giving it back Top of the Key Martin Trying to find something here
Starting point is 01:25:24 Swings it down low Stolen by Beeson Great play there by Logan Beeson and the charges are out running again Beeson looking for something. Trying to find Big Rick with a huge size advantage on Shamray. They can't find him here. Janowski. Oh my, what a move.
Starting point is 01:25:39 Right hand. Layup won't go. Just won't fall, but a beautiful spin move into the open lay. Tries underhand just off the rim. Tough take there. Shamray back the other way. Tough screen. He gets open in the mid-range guarded by Janowski.
Starting point is 01:25:52 He'll go up with it. Won't go rebound by Router. Sky's high. Hits Pig Rick there, but able to clear it to Janowski. 14-45. to play now. Janowski. Top of the key to Beeson back to Woodham's 19 on the shot clock, finding Big Rick again. Size advantage on Morgan.
Starting point is 01:26:09 He's trying to play physical. Not much he can do. That's Big Rick. Wow. Spinning back, baseline. Just a massive spin. There's nothing you can really do when you have to give up that size. 74, 38 now.
Starting point is 01:26:21 Chargers keep their starters in, even with 4.22 to play. Len the seniors play it out. Ruder guarding Eklin. Fowl there and he's upset about it even. Did not look like it. look like a clean swipe at the ball. Refs off something he's going to call it. Jameson Eklon, sophomore 6'5, 200 pounds from Westphalia, Michigan. Pua, Westphalia, a football powerhouse in Lansing.
Starting point is 01:26:43 See what he can do here. Northwood. Just trying to have a little pride here at the end of the game. First one's up and good with the bonus. 7439 now. The charges are making a huge statement to everyone in the G-MAC that they've had a couple skids, they've had a couple games where they weren't great, but they're still a legit unit. and make a push from the GMAC tournament. Well, it does matter because Northwood just upset Finley. Hillsdale, even beating Finley a few weeks ago, you know, every team is going to have, you know,
Starting point is 01:27:10 those tough points throughout their time. But it's these games where you make a statement that really matter, I think, and it showcases on why when the playoffs come, they're not going to be something you can just push around. And I think that game against Finley kind of woke them up where they saw Northwood was able to beat Finley, so they knew this game, even though with that 7-and-17 record wouldn't have been a push-off game
Starting point is 01:27:28 and they've shown that they're ready to go. 7440 here, tipped out of bounds, trying to find Big Rick. It's going to be a sideline in-bounds for the Chargers. All their starters still in. As we mentioned, Janowski's going to take it. 24 on the shot clock, 7440. Chargers is one of their biggest leads of the night.
Starting point is 01:27:45 Dyson gets it here on the right wing, driving. Trying to find Big Rick can't. Top of the key, Big Rick, from the logo on Senior Night. Holes out. So close. Everybody wanted it. Big Rick, not afraid to take that three-pointer, especially on senior night can't find it cleared away there by noah pruett shot back the other way
Starting point is 01:28:05 from uh jordan rogers can't find it woodham's in transition lay up good a whistle there looks like he tipped it off the backboard you're gonna get a technical here i'm not sure what it is it's going to be immediate timeout regardless you're listening to radio for yields at 101.7 fm charger basketball i'm gordon i'm ryan i'm ryan welcome to the grammar minute where we're saving the english language 60 seconds at a time. I'm Lauren Smith, and I looked at my keyboard and saw some weird little marks, and one of the weirdest little marks, in my opinion, is the ampersand. What is that little squiggle? Actually, the ampersand has very little to do with the English word and, and everything to do with the Latin word et.
Starting point is 01:28:49 The squiggle, as I've described it, is supposed to be a combination of the letters E and T. At one point, this symbol was actually the 27th letter in the English alphabet, probably because the word and is used so often that it just made sense to save space. especially in printed materials where every letter had to be typeset by hand. The word ampersand is also a shortened form of and per se and, which is what British children called this symbol when reciting the alphabet. That's your Grammar Minute. Visit thegrammerminut.com for more tips and tricks. Hello and welcome back. You're listening to Ready for your own 101.1.7 FM Charger basketball, that last basket from Woodham's.
Starting point is 01:29:38 Gonna keep all the seniors in and then Michael App. sophomore guard from Grand Rapids and the big man Conner Stonebreaker fun name there the red shirt freshman from Brousai Ohio so you see the subs come in but great to see the seniors going to stay in for their potential last moment here on Don Tippett's court yeah that's an important night for them I mean they've spent four to five years here just something you like to see let them finish out on
Starting point is 01:30:00 their terms Alice here swinging the ball around trying to find something back to Ellis on the left wing Holt's up a three ball. Can't get it. Woodham's will clear the rebound. 3.30 to play, 76.40. Ruter here looking for something in transition.
Starting point is 01:30:18 Finds Woodham's on the left wing. App going to find Woodham's back. Guarded by Eklund down low. He'll take the tough layup, won't go, and a foul. Woodham's is going to get a chance here for two more on senior night. He's had a great night. Physical guard got down low. They got him on the arm.
Starting point is 01:30:34 Yeah, might as well put it up. I mean, last night in an arena like Don Tibbitts, have fun. this point with a 7640 lead put up something try and rack up some points for yourself Ethan Dunn the big man we mentioned a little bit at halftime might see some playing time 610 233 the biggest player on the floor is even bigger than big Rick so interesting to see he come in at the end um yeah a lot of different players getting in especially for the charges good to see connor stonebreaker and michael app but of course those three seniors going to stay in shot is up and good for woodham's and they're going to check out big Rick and he's going to get a stand
Starting point is 01:31:08 standing ovation here at Don Tibbitts. You love to see it a player that has played almost since he got here. He's always been in the rotation. Just great player, size, everything, battled through some injuries this year early on. And standing ovation here is great to see pulling the seniors kind of out one at a time. Caleb Glazer checks in for him. Woodham's second one is also up and good.
Starting point is 01:31:31 He's going to check out Woodham's now. Another standing ovation for him. A great guard. He was on a lot of those teams early on in his career. Joe Rooder is also going to check out a guy who's in our grade that we've seen since he was a freshman starting. And those are two guys that have been a part of such great teams here. So great to see them. Garrett Bolte, going to check in and Jacob Meyer as well.
Starting point is 01:31:53 An absolute legacy right there with those three. You can remember all of their moments. Driving to the Cup, finding Ethan Dunn, top of the key. Back to Will Young. He'll take the deep three. Good. 78, 43, now. three minutes to play. Michael App, going to pull it up here for the Chargers.
Starting point is 01:32:10 Whole different lineup than we've seen all night and Jacob Meyer on the left wing. Top of the key glazer. Trying to find something Boltey on the left wing, surveying the defense, driving on Rogers. Size advantage down low, gets him to jump, up and under. Tough move and he's fouled. Great patience there by Volty. New he had the size advantage, but still got the guy to jump. Yeah, Gritty squad's still out there.
Starting point is 01:32:29 You don't need your seniors for this Charger team. They're going to play it out, and they're going to make sure that they get after it and try and keep the score. the way it is for sure two shots here for garrett bolty 78 43 chargers have put the pedal to the metal all night and you love to see that because we've seen games where the chargers come out hot shooting and then they kind of lose it but this wasn't one of those games they were consistent they were great all night yeah you know a little bit after half where it's kind of seemed like they were just playing not to lose but you know then their offense got back into their flow state and now they're now this is where we're at almost 40 point lead for the chargers
Starting point is 01:33:04 Boltie knocks two of them through 80 to 7 or excuse me 80 to 43 now coming back the other way Rogers Swinging it into the corner to Ellis down low to Dunn working on Glazer Size advantage for the Timberwolf strives baseline tough layup won't go rebound by app Got up to grab it in transition finds Glazer what a pass off his hands You can see clearly Timberwolves trying to develop their big men down there now I mean with what it's been such a disadvantage for them tonight you know maybe it's time for them to develop some of their younger guys
Starting point is 01:33:35 especially Ethan Dunn see how he's going to play in some future games for them Jordan Krenicki also checking in the freshman guard from Sparta Michigan getting all sorts of players in this game Ellis here on the right wing finds Krenicki in the corner guarded by Meyer screen there down low by Dunn he'll get it again on Meyer big size advantage spinning back excuse me that's Ellis easy shot up and good on the smaller Jacob Meyer A little unfortunate for Meyer there to be put in that situation, but Els is going to find a way to put it down.
Starting point is 01:34:06 Glazer here on the left wing. Surveang finds Stonebreaker top of the key. He'll drive, spin, tough move on Ellis. Won't go. Cleared away by Krenicki. 140 to play here, 80 to 45. Chargers, dominant victory today on a Saturday afternoon. Pruitt swings it to Krenicki's screen here by Dunn.
Starting point is 01:34:26 He looks to roll. He's opened down low, got it, lay up good. 80 to 47 now, minute 30 to play. Chargers pretty much just have to dribble it out. See if they can get some baskets for some guys that don't score. Glazer here on the left wing. Looking for Jacob Meyer. He comes off the screen.
Starting point is 01:34:45 Dribbling it here, top of the key, 16 on the shot clock. Swings into the corner. Michael App tipped around off his hands. With a little bit of the slip-ups that they had last week for the Chargers, this is an important game as we talked about. You know, with the playoffs coming up, you know, this is their last home game for the regular season. I think it's important to remember that this team is true to themselves and the seniors showed out tonight.
Starting point is 01:35:07 And when it comes to the postseason, they can definitely play. Nothing but time to run out here. Dunn gets another post touch down low, tipped around stolen by Boltey. Still playing great defense here even with a minute left up, 80 to 47. App here on the right wing. Trying to find something top of the key, Boltey. Surveys finds App on the right wing, Stonebreaker, top of the key. Bolty with the backdoor cut can't find him.
Starting point is 01:35:32 They'll find Glazer here on the left wing. 13 on the shot clock. Bolty down low on done. He'll take a tough mid-range, won't go. Tipped around by Ellis. Going to go the way of the Timberwolves here, 34 seconds to play 80 to 47. One more possession from the Timberwolves here,
Starting point is 01:35:48 and then the chargers can dribble it out on a huge victory. Huge way to send off these seniors. And that is a big win for Coach Kevin Bradley, who's definitely have the ups and downs with this team, but they're excited for the postseason. It was absolutely electric. I mean, the seniors had a great game, had a few awesome dunks by this Charger team,
Starting point is 01:36:06 and just a good way to send them out. And that's going to do with the steel there by Bolte once again, the defensive specialist. Michael App will hold on to the ball, and that'll do it here at Don Tibbitts Potter Arena. 80 to 47, a dominant Saturday afternoon victory. Thank you guys for tuning in. Thank you guys for appreciating these seniors
Starting point is 01:36:27 on a senior night. You're listening to Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM Charger Basketball. I'm Gordy. I'm Ryan. You've been listening to Hillsdale Charge Your Sports on Radio Free Hillsdale,
