Hello and welcome to this presentation of Hillsdale College Men's Basketball.

I'm your host, Caleb Lee. I'm Daniel Daringowski. And tonight, we have the matchup between your Hillsdale Chargers and the Dragons of Tiffin University. Well, I tell you, it's a cold and snowy day outside in Hillsdale, Michigan, but it's nice and warm here inside Don Timbitt's Potter Arena. As your Hillsdale Chargers come into the matchup with a record of 8 and 12, 5 and 7 in the GMAC conference, against the Tiffin Dragons with an overall record of 6 and 14, 2 and 11 in the GMA. This should be an interesting content with a lot of.

of implications for the GMAC tournament later in the season. Hillsdale leads the series between the team's all-time 36 to 7. However, on January 17th, they lost on the road to Tiffin, so they will be looking to avenge that loss tonight. Tiffin is coming off of an upset win against Malone on January 31st, and they will be looking to carry that momentum with them tonight. Hillsdale comes off a road loss to Walsh University last Saturday, and they are looking to rebound and gain spots in the G-MAC. Daniel, I'm excited for this game. This is our first game that we've ever broadcasted. I'm just hyped to be here.

How about you? I'm excited too. A couple of key things for this game. In their last matchup, Hillsdale shot well below average from three, as well as in the paint. Tiffin shot above average in the paint. I think a key point in this game will be in Hillsdale contain Tiffin's offense, which historically has been among some of the worst.

Yes, you look at this Tiffin team. one of the best defensive teams in the G-MAC, but they have struggled on offense, ranking very low in the conference. So like you said, it'll be interesting to see if Hillsdale can really open things up with the scoring. Yeah. Oh, go ahead.

As we see these teams warm up, Hillsdale is taking a lot of threes, and Tiffin is working in their paint. Tiffin looks like the bigger team. Hillsdale looks like the more three-ball-centric team. I will say Tiffin is bringing a lot of height into this game. It'll be interesting to see how these two teams, teams match up. Now, let's talk about this Hillsdale team. I'm excited. I mean, you got some

electric playmakers. You talk about some guy I have my eye on freshman Braylin Morris. You talk about this team shooting threes. This guy, he's shot 42% from deep, I believe. That's just insane. And this guy, I tell you, a true freshman, he can make plays when the team needs him. So I will have my eye on him. Anyone else you are watching tonight day? I will be watching the Hillsdale Student Section as they are reanimated as the best student section in the GMAC. Of course, the most interesting student section in all of Division II basketball, we will keep our eye on the student section as they try and influence this game as much as possible. It is interesting. Obviously, the home field advantage is a great thing to have,

so we will see how these chargers perform in front of the home crowd. Chargers are led by their guard Ashton Janowski. And let me tell you, this guy is at the core of the team. He is a great score. He's a veteran from last year. And so I think that they will be relying on him tonight, leaning on him as a linchpin of this offense. But again, we'll just have to see after tip-off how both of these teams adjust.

Again, a great action coming to from the G-MAC. Just before this, the Hillsdale Women's team actually defeated Tiffin in overtime, a very exciting game. We were there for the end of that. And hopefully that's a good omen for this game. Teams are still warming up, but we will have action very soon. About a minute 40 left before the allegiance and close to tip off. Now, Daniel, have you noticed anything? I know you may not have been to as many basketball games as I have this season,

but anything special you're looking for tonight? Really just Hillsdale to play good enough defense that Tiffin is not able to bully them in the paint. Again, last time these teams played, Tiffin shot above average in the paint and way below average than three. So I expect the same game plan from Tiffin to kind of try and bully Hillsdale in the paint.

But Hillsdale is going to run a rotation of three bigs. We kind of snipe this team out from three. as this Tiffin defense is considered one of the best in the conference. However, we'll see if this home field advantage makes any difference. I agree. I mean, you look at both teams talking about Hillsdale College. You've got Caleb Glazer, 6'8. You've got Tommy Morgan 6'5, Connor Stonebreaker 6'7, C.J. Yarian, 610.

You've got some height on this team, but Tiffin, too, they are a big physical team. I mean, I'm looking at Jonah Naismith, 6'7. You've got T.J. Pangonas 6'6, so it'll be very interesting to see how these teams match up, as we are about to honor the national anthem. The greatest of less than one, Congress, and those that patches, the purpose of students, athletes, which is expectators. For granted, and the comments are ready to make action struck that officials, student athletes, sports, and representatives will not be tolerated

He's an electric player, but this is his second start ever. Wow. It's basketball. Very interesting to see how the true freshman talented Braylon Morris performs in his second ever start at the collegiate level.

Braylin Morris of Hillsdale takes the ball down the court. He's got it on the right wing now. Passes it in the Glazer. Glazer dribbles. Inside the paint. Goes up for it. It's blocked. Tipped out of bounds. It will be charger ball.

Daniel, what are we seeing here early? Again, we're seeing Tiffin trying to exploit that match up down low and Hillsdale kind of picking them apart from outside, although Hillsdale has gotten really good penetration inside the paint so far this game. McGoaney with the inbound, swings it out to Janowski. Now back to Stonebreaker.

Stonebreaker dribbles in. Stonebreaker in the paint. Goes up. Can't get it to go, but he gets the rebound. Stonebreaker again, and he's fouled on the shot. He will be shooting two for Hillsdale. You're impressive. In that play again, Hillsdale had two shots, missed both. Good that they got the foul, but kind of that elite, Tiffin defense playing a huge role here.

Yeah, I have to say, though, it is impressive, these offensive rebounds, extending the play for Hillsdale. And there's Stonebreaker making the first free throw. Second attempt is good as well. It is six to three your Hillsdale Chargers leading just over two minutes into the game. Here comes Tiffin. Number one, Desmondier Davis, taking it up the court. He's got it at half court.

Passes to Naismith. Now to DeMaram. Damarum at the top of the three-point line. Passes it back to Davis. Here goes Davis. Oh, he's shifty. And he's fouled on the drive. Looks like that was on number 11 of Hillsdale.

Your Hillsdale College. Chargers are leading 17 to 9 against Tiffin University. Daniel, what have you seen so far in this first half? Contrary to what I said in the intro, Hillsdale has been penetrating the paint and taking a lot of close-range shots. They haven't been falling, but overall they've been dominating Tiffin in the paint. And Tiffin really hasn't done well in the pain at all. They're shooting below their average right now.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes from here. Now, before the break, number four for Tiffin, Jonah Naismith was fouled. He'll be shooting two. Gets the first one to go. 1710, Chargers leading. Base miss second attempt. Can't get it to go. Rebound. Braylon Morris, who swings it to McKinney, and your chargers lead 17 to 10. 11 minutes left in this first half as McWinney looking for a pass, gets it to number 30 Connor Stonebreaker. they only committed one foul in five minutes. Now they put Tiffin in the bonus with eight falls. Tiffin only has four. And Tiffin will be shooting three free throws. Michael Lukarotti was fouled before the media timeout. He'll take his first attempt. In and out, so it's no good. Student section rejoices.

Lukaradi's second attempt. And that one is good. Chargers up 10, 28, 18. Three minutes, 51 seconds left in this first half. Cole McWinney, number 11, takes it up for the Chargers. He finds Connor Stonebreaker. Back to Morgan, back to McWinney at the top of the three-point line, swings out to the right to Morgan, passes in the glazer. His layup is stuffed, but it will remain charger basketball as it was tipped by Tiffin.

Instead of parking their middle in the paint, they've moved one of their guards, and they're forcing Hillsdale to put one of their smaller players on Tiffin's bigger guards.

Interesting strategy. We'll see how it pays off as they go into the second half. Very interesting to see what the coaches say as they go into halftime. I'm sure head coach for Tiffin, Des Valentine, will have some words, hopefully trying to adjust and dig themselves out of this 11-point deficit. On the other side for your Hillsdale Chargers, Coach Kevin Bradley will surely try and encourage his team

We've got a couple minutes left before the second half tip off. Daniel, what are some key takeaways from the first half? And what do you expect to see in this second half? Both of the points have come from not just in the paint, but also from the free throw line. Both teams are shooting fairly well. But in the second half, I expect to see a lot more battles in the paint, especially as these teams start to get into foul trouble towards the end of the half.

We're surprised if I see any more an increase in three-point attempts. specifically for Hillsdale. Raylon Morris has played ecstatic role in the central role in Hillsdale taking a commanding 11-point lead in this game. He's looking a little bit like Patrick Mahomes. You just had to do it. I have to say, these teams have been punishing each other in the paint,

and if that does continue, we can definitely expect to see a lot more fouls. It got a little chippy at the end of this first half. We'll see if anyone gets themselves into foul trouble in this second half. Your chargers, again, up a little. 11 playing pretty well. This Tiffin team ranked first in defense in the GMAC. So it will be interesting to see how, what adjustments they make down 11. Both teams very physical.

Both teams have some big men, especially, I mean, you look at Tiffin number 44. Someone I know is Ethan Damaram. I mean, he's 6'10. He was just punishing in the paint, getting a couple hard-earned baskets. So it'll be interesting to see if they feed him more. and who Hillsdale will match up with him. But I agree with you, especially on Braylon Morris' performance. Great to see considering, you know, he hasn't started very many games,

but when he does play and he has gained a lot more playing time in the past couple weeks, he can be electric. Definitely a great three-shooter. Hillsdale would definitely love to have some nice long baskets, extend this lead, and put this Tiffin team away. the second half. I think to note, Tiffin has only played two big men in this game.

Number 44 in Durham and number 24 are Demar Burton. Meanwhile, Hillsdale has been on a rotating three big men system with often two of them in the game at the same time. Caleb Glazer, Stonebreaker, and Tommy Morgan.

It's been interesting to see in this game, especially what Tiffin tries to do to break down this Tillsdale defense and see if Hillsdale can finish more of these close range shots. They've been getting a lot of offensive rebounds that have yet to convert. Yes, execution, finishing drives, getting the baskets to go. That's the key for both sides.

We'll see which team can do it better. Again, 11 points separating these two teams, the Chargers leading as we count down to the second half tip off. Just 50 seconds left. Shout out to John Morris, huge part of this Hill'sel bench. True freshman. Not sure if he's going to register yet, but he's adapting pretty good numbers coming off the bench and sharing on his team. Oh, man, this guy is great. I mean, you talk about leading defense chance.

You talk about being the heart of the team. We love John Morris. He actually is on our hall back at the dorm, so we run into him a bit. Man, it's just so awesome seeing these guys that you live with go out and do their thing on the court. You look at these freshmen, Paxton Gertz, Braylin Morris, and of course, as we were just, talking about John Morris. You love to see it. And it's great coming out, supporting our guys. Hillsdale's defense has been keeping up, staying strong throughout this, and they're starting to break down this Tiffin's zone. That last three

that was shot, Tiffin's man was nowhere to be found, and that three went up. So, I'm expecting Hillsdale to start pulling away here if they continue to break this tip and defense down. Have you seen any adaptations since halftime, Daniel? Yeah, Hillsdale is starting to run a little more kick and roll, but that action is not really intended to score.

It's more to cause that zone to kind of collapse in on the center and find the man wide open in the corner to the three ball. Interesting. And coming into this game, we said they needed to be better at shooting a three ball, shooting in general. I think it's safe to say that so far they've been doing a pretty good job of that. I mean, you had a huge three in the corner from number 22. Tommy Morgan and, of course, Braylon Morris, the freshman,

knocking down a couple big ones. Hopefully they can keep up that momentum as they are leading 46 to 32, just under 15 minutes left to play in this second half. We'll see if they can keep up the offensive intensity. While Tiffin looks to string together a couple of defensive stops as we return to the action. Interesting also to see as well If Tiffin continues running this two big man

it out to the shooter to block the shot, and it's worked so far. These teams have been scoring much for the last few minutes, but interesting to see how they adapt. Now Hillsdale's offense starts to come by because Tiffin's offense has been really flat in the whole game. Yeah, you hope that they can maintain this lead. Again,

Rogers up, 13, 7 minutes to go as we are in the middle of the timeout. Certainly an exciting matchup between these two GMAC teams battling for positions, hopefully to get into the GMAC tournament later this season as we kind of wind down this final stretch of the regular season. Hillsdale definitely had that home advantage today. Student section getting into the game. They're getting excited. Home fans are excited. So we'll see how this plays out as we are.

Not always putting up the points, but, man, they are just punishing each other down in the paint. It'd be interesting to see who has a better stamina as we get down to this final stretch of the game. It's got it's on the main discreet around the corner to clean up some spots. Coaches are using this extra time to drop some extra plays. Tiffin, only down 10. Trying to look to see if they could crawl their way back into this game. Billsill's trying to shut them out.

It's really interesting to see the final less than two minutes how the game developed. Yeah, not a whole lot of time left on the clock. Tiffin's got to go fast, but we have seen them work well in transition. A couple good buckets on a fast break here and there. So we'll see if they can overcome this 10-point deficit. your Chargers leading with one minute, 30 seconds left, 64 to 54. One more foul on Hillsdale will be in the bonus. Important to note as Bolte looks to inbound it, finds Morris.

Wow, that was close. Morris takes it up the court for the Chargers, and he's fouled. Fow on number one, Davis from Tiffin. And that puts Hillsdale in the bonus. Morris will be shooting one-and-one. Good call there, Daniel. 30 Connor Stonebreaker checks into the game as Morris will shoot one-on-one.

Ooh, first one in and out. Tiffin gets the ball as Jonah Naismith takes it up the court, gives it to Davis. Davis working along that left wing. Now finds... Troll tried to find DeMar Burtt. Good defense by the charges to interrupt that pass. Cole McWinney has the ball.

Find Stonebreaker. Stonebreaker takes it up the court. He's getting harassed, and he's fouled. by KJ Pruitt. So that will be eight team fouls for Tiffin. And it looks like Stonebreaker will be shooting free throws. Tiffin with eight files, two more, and Hillsdale will be shooting two free throws per ground foul.

As Stonebreaker gets the first one to go, they're now leading 65 to Tiffin's 54. Stonebreaker with his second free throw attempt. Doesn't get that one to go. Glazer can't get the rebound. So now Jonah Naismith takes the ball up to court for Tiffin. He's working on Cole McQuinnie. Naismith drives in the paint, can't get it to go.

Tries get the rebound. Looks like Braylon Moore's there tried to get the ball but was out of bounds. It will remain with Tiffin. 55 seconds left on the clock. They are down 11. It looks like it will be number one, Demonye Davis, to inbound for the ball. the Dragons and he finds Jonah Naismith. Naismith working against Morris gets it out to Davis.

Davis for three can't get it to go. Rebound, oh, rebound attempt by Connor Stonebreaker, but ends up with Tiffin. Davis finds it in the paint and a nice little move there to get a bucket. Cuts the lead to nine. Braylon Morris now has the ball for Hillsdale. He's fouled immediately. Foul on number 24 to Mar Burton for Tiffin. Nine team fouls for Tiffin as it looks like Braylon Morris will be shooting one in one.

Gets the first one to go. Chargers now up 10. Hillsdale is elected not to contest this free throw. And he hits the second one. So now your Chargers lead is 67 to 56. 38 seconds left in this game. Pruitt takes it for the Dragons. Kicks it out to Davis.

He goes for three, and he nails it. That's a strong three there for Davis. Now the inbound, Janowski has it for the Chargers. He is fouled, and now that's 10 team fouls. Hillsdale will be shooting two free throws. Diffin here, just trying to conserve as much time as possible. But with 28 seconds left, down eight, it's going to be tough. Janowski now at the line shooting two for the Chargers.

The other Hills Hill failures, they're not contesting the free throws yet. They're over on the sideline meeting with their coach discussing how they're going to kill this clock and ice out the game. Yeah, just want some smart plays, good execution on this clock out. Can't get the second free throw to go as Janowski. So now it looks like Luca Roddy takes up the court. Tiffin, a three attempt by Jonas Noah Smith. It's well short, but is that a foul? called on chargers?

No, Braylon Morris rebounded the ball and has his foot out of bounds. That's really unfortunate. 20 seconds left. Tiffin down eight. They have the ball inbound. Goes to Smith. Smith working against Morris. Deep three.

He can't get it to go. Rebound McWinney. He takes it up the court. He's just wasting time. He's dribbling around 10 seconds left. Nine, eight, five. And that'll do it. Final score.
